HTC Desire Z - User Reviews

  • Coolest phone I ever had

  • Great phone, I typed about 15000 messages and some keyboard buttons werent working but overall pretty great

  • What a great phone this was.

  • i have it but it has failed to connect to the internet

  • I love this phone, had one 5 years and it is still working perfectly. Solid build, great video, great keyboard... find and block the light sensor for permanently illuminated keyboard.

  • I have it and I am selling it, works perfectly after exactly 7 years as well!

  • I use it 7years and work very well yet.just now lcd tuch isnt work very well. If I found this model buy it again.

  • My lg g3 broke down so I found this buddy in my room still works perfectly...!

  • I had it, it has H+ up to 20 Mbps

  • I had this phone months after it first came out and it was my first foray into the Android world (I had the Sony Ericsson P1i prior to this). Slow as molasses and crashes every now and then. To be fair, this was an earlier generation of Android. It was unfortunately under-powered to run even the later 2.x builds and caused lags and instability while using even the basic phone functions (call and text). Despite that, the design was to die for.... Fold out 'Z' keyboard, replaceable battery, and solid build quality. It had a certain heft in it that makes it feel premium.

  • My Nexus 5 just broke down and I found good and old HTC Desire Z in my closet. After all that years it works perfectly, even the battery life is 2 days! Built to last...

  • 3G only of course, it doesn't even have H+, only regulsr H and only on 2 bands. It came in 2010 you know, this was greatness back then. Awesone built phone, super premium, heavy with thick steel plating, and the z-hinge was like a dream, perfect. But the FreezeOnStandby and countless software issues together with a few failing keyboard keys forced me over on Xperia Pro.

  • is it 3g or 4g

  • It's 21th century bra! It's time for Apple & plus. forget it. buy new one...

  • I was absolutely disappointed with this cellphone. It stopped working all the time automatically,it started rebooting automatically.I had problems all the time.......

  • Bought it in 2011, still works great, still original battery, still in great condition.. dont want to buy other phone.. real LEGEND!

  • Legend still lives, five years after continued to benefit from the son, still Android 2.3 original because I was not able to unlock the boot loader for custom rom .... All these years later I used a dozen other models always the premium segment of smartphones, but it is the thoughts always go back to the Desire Z , one of the best if not the number 1.

  • This phone is/(was?) absolutely legendary. It has all of the little things that make you happy to have a quality phone, including mod support. I've been using mine daily since 2011 with a few battery changes. You won't say that for a lot of phones!

  • same here Still using my htc desire z in 2015

  • if you write your e-mail, i can send you htc desire z user guide in english.

  • Out of curiosity, which rom? And how did you root it? I'm having a hard time finding working instructions and tools...all files have been deleted.

  • now is 2015 and I still use this phone

  • Select N/w for WCMA only..

  • use it 2 years work perfekt

  • i have it, but there wz a problm with 3g not working anyone help m to use/enable 3g network my cell # 92306-6165425

  • Use custom firmware, Cyanogenmod 10/11 for example with huge SD card. Also install Clockworkmod and clear app and Dalvik cache with it after installing apps. It will work as fast as stock firmware. But battery is a real problem.

  • Do not buy this phone when you look for quality. Battery life is dreadfull. The phone itself is very slow and storing capacity is so small you can hardly safe any contacts. Then if there is just a drop of water coming close to this phone it will be destroyed same goes for sand or pretty much anything. Plus the thing is unbreakable if you look at the screen alone. I dropped it down the stairs, my horse stood on it and it fell on concrete and the screen itself was perfectly fine. The elictronics is a diffrent story though.

  • Will it get lollipop custom rom ?

  • will Desire Z have Lollipop custom ROM ?

  • hey! i need the files and method to update please! thanx.

  • how come when I log into my friends stream it says it does not work need an answer before the phone gets broken please

  • It does use Mini-SIM. A Standard SIM is as large as a credit card. ;)

  • Great phone, I upgraded it to Android 4.4.4 Kitkat, and it works fine, but sometimes really slow, probably because of hardware... Dont know if any earlier Android system will work better...

  • I'm very happy using this device. Running Android KitKat 4.4 using Andromadus Flinny Rom of 2014-03-23 (based on CyanogenMod CM11.0).

  • Device uses normal sim, not mini sim.

  • Guys, I'm back with competent impressions, as promised. I just closed a 3rd year of continuous (and relentless) use of my HTC Desire Z. It served me very, very well - of course, in return for proper maintenance. And also because I didn't expect it to perform like e.g. a Nexus 4 would. Just yesterday I replaced it with a Moto E which came in free with a contract renewal, NOT because "Z" isn't good enough anymore - on the contrary, "Z" still has pretty much to offer, at least to a less demanding user. From my own experience - "Z" is quite fitting for users who prefer the feel of actual buttons to a touchscreen, and even excellent for users who have never used a touchscreen before, to help them with the transition. My "Z" got me through three years of smartphone use with reliable service and dependable behavior. I did however replace some stock options (keyboard, launcher, camera...) with 3rd-party apps (Smart Keyboard, Smart Launcher 2, Camera360 Memento...) - and they amazingly worked better and smoother then the pre-installed. Furthermore: QuickOffice works smooth, Pixlr Express is excellent. Some apps became heavy and slowed down a bit with each update, so I kept FB to the stock version, as well as G-Talk and SoundHound. Gmail remains as barebone as in 2010 - compared to the latest color-book update for KitKat is almost artistically simple. To my surprise "Z" handles easily a comfortable range of game apps. I regularly used device maintenance apps (lately Clean Master) which assured balanced & efficient use of hardware resources (especially RAM), which greatly helped in preserving them operational and safe. Although the number of Froyo and Gingerbread OS users is getting smaller every day (currently below 9% of all Android users), still there is a generous and quite sufficiently equipped app market out there to allow older phones a significantly prolonged age of service, almost without limitations. Furthermore, the Android developer community has been for years now so diligent and efficient that there are non-commercial alternatives to the official Android OS (such as the brilliant Cyanogenmod OS, or community-verified/approved custom ROMs) that are quite often better and much less demanding then a stock Android in terms of options and capabilities offered, as well as CPU, RAM and battery use. Bottom line: I wholeheartedly recommend "Z"! If you have relatively modest expectations, and are prepared to invest minor efforts (free of charge) in upgrade and maintenance "Z" is still a gem. In fact, I think any user could stay with their favorite old gadget for a while longer and also save money on new purchases following these general principles. Hope this helps.

  • u can buy it on aliexpress

  • I bought this phone in 2012 for £110 pounds, Manufacturer refurbished to a Grade B Lvl. Its my all time favorite phone. The fact that its got QWERTY and Full touch Screen is so handy. Plus with it being a HTC, the interface and usability is really really good. Such a cleaver phone. Four years old but still smarter than some of these new phones believe me. This phones ideal for anyone who wants every modern phone feature without the price tag. look on ebay for refurbished ones for under £100.

  • Will you please tell me how to root it

  • I need this phone but unable to buy from market please begin its market as many of my friends need this phone htc desire z .

  • Thanks :) I Have Amaze. I did Unlock, Root, S-off, Super CID. It's a pain, but it's worth it :) I'll buy Desire Z ASAP :)

  • I loaded CyanogenMod 7 on mine and chucked out all the bloat. Gave it a new lease of life (though the flashing is a bit tortuous involving a downgrade to 2.2 Froyo first!)

  • Had one for almost 4 years and there's nothing to touch it. Bought an HTC One X+ off a mate and ended up flogging it and going back to the Desire Z. I would regard myself as a Power User and I've never had RAM/ROM or battery problems (though I do keep it tidy ;-). Anyone who says you do hasn't really got one... Surely there are enough people out there who want a slide-out keyboard for at least one manufacturer to make one??

  • Exelent phone

  • Horrible phone, OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED. Battery needs to be charged every now and then, goes without charging for 12 hours MAX if used moderately. 512mb RAM results in lag while playing games. I could go on and on about the things that are wrong with this phone. Absolutely not recommended. Go look for some other phones of the same price range, u WILL regret it if u buy this excuse of a good phone!

  • its cool but it is horizontal in view.

  • I'm planning to buy this phone. And flash a custom rom on it. Shall I buy it? I'd love my phone to have physical qwerty keyboard. I was using Nokia 9500 for 7 years :)

  • Did you flash a bad rom?

  • I've been using it since the past 6months now, and i've had no complaints about it, except overheating and i guess thats due to it metallic nature... I also recently rooted and upgraded to ICS and its sooo awesome now (i am not looking forward to buy any phone soon ;D)

  • my htc desire z always shows (com.phone.android has stopped working unexpectedly) and then switches off and restarting itself several times.

  • My HTC Desire Z G2 is broken I've have been used it for 2 years from now., but now., the touchscreen is not working the cellphone technician said it was the FLEX on it was broken but others say its the TOUCHSCREEN Needs for REPLACEMENT .. do u have any information where to buy the parts here in the Philippines/ metro manila area only.. thanks.. email me @ [email protected] thanks.

  • Been user it for over 3 years. Still works great. Know others who used it up to 2 years. Had to replace the screen for one of them tho. Haven't had a problem with the querty but it does pick up a nasy grease. Been thinking of pulling mine apart to see if I can clean it but then again all keys work great so I'll probally won't. Didn't find a proper upgrade for it but it is a little under powered and has a small screen these days. Going to use a S4 mini until I can get or import a good querty replacement.

  • here i made a small tutorial how to repair the keyboard without disassembling the phone [REPAIR] HTC Desire Z bad keyboard contacts WITH PHOTOS

  • After one year of normal use, the querty had some problems. Sometimes, I press a letter and it was typed two times. Other times, the same letter, I pressed it twice to be displayed once! I return it for a service. The replace my phone with another one. Now, (after almost one year), I face the same problem to the second mobile the gave me.

  • I had this problem also, I have just buy 4 spare battery on E-Bay for 3$ each, and resolved the problem....

  • I have my htc desire but the problem is my battery does not last for more than 5hrs. When using my phone its heats up and loses power. I don't know if the problem is of the battery or the phone itself. Help me Reply to [email protected] or [email protected] Thank you in advance

  • Love it but now bttery power is terrible and touch screen is nt so responsive. With what I put it through, it was great while it lasted ! Sad to have to switch it up.

  • Still using mine from 2010. I'm going to miss the qwerty when I upgrade.

  • pleasa downlode from google play store

  • Great phone and still in daily use. Post says that this can't be upgraded to JellyBean....WRONG! Custom Rom solves that and surprisingly it runs better than ICS, doesn't eat battery power and if you add Next lancher 3d it runs like a dream, still lots of life in the old dog yet. May struggle with some of the newer games but anything else is a breeze.

  • There is a problem in my phone my uncle gifted me just before a couple of month ago he bought this phone from out of India one of my cousin has drawn wrong unlocked pattern and my phone was locked so I gave this to a software engineer he unlocked it by putting a software in it but now after unlocking everything is working smooth and positively but my watsapp is not working whenever i'm downloading watsapp from Google then watsapp is asking for my phone no. • you can't upgrade to jelly bean version friend tis phone doesn't have that capacity

  • nothing u can't

  • you can root it and try to install a custom rom of android jelly bean on your desire Z however if you want to root it your warranty will go down i think otherwise if HTC didn't annouced an upgrade to android jelly bean for the desire Z i dont think there will be another option

  • What should i do to upgrad the software to jelly bean??

  • HTC desire z great phone I love HTC phone

  • i love my htc desire z , using from past 4 months , great fone ever . no problem of any kind , every thing working wonderful....

  • This is a brilliant phone, I have had mine now for 4 years and apart from a hic-cup when it was new, all cleared and put right by HTC, I have never had any problems, until now....... It needs a new battery. It has replaced my computer when it broke down, so, no I have no complaints at all. Best buy I made.

  • yes it does accept wahtsapp

  • yes it does accept wahtsapp

  • Pls does anyone knw if this phone accepts whatsapp?

  • i love my htc desire z , using from past 6 months , great fone ever . no problem of any kind , every thing working wonderful....

  • i have one of these now the back is annoying it over heats quickly and the metal back hurts your hands the keyboard is too complicated to use and it actually can store 64gb micro sd cards i have one in :)

  • Hi friends today I got this phone. ... when I open the box I was really surprised. .. because I got 1450mah battery which is designed for HTC Desire S. And that's perfectly matching with Desire Z. Is this good or what? FYI: I am from India. And till now I didn't check the battery backup. ..

  • I've owned one of these since they launched in 2010. You can get a batteries on eBay that are compatible from the old HTC evo's. Google it and check it out. They have a red wrap and are compatible with the G2, they came in a two battery pack with a separate wall charger. They fit tight in the battery area so you have to remove the wrap that comes on them so they barely fit in there. Great battery life! I still use it to this day!

  • THIS PHONE IS MEANT TO BE OVERCLOCKED! PUT CYANOGENMOD 7.2 AND OC IT TO 1516 MHZ TO USE IT PROPERY! TO ROOT IT GO TO HTCDEV.COM if you are a power user, love texting girls, you know how to use an android phone, and you even want to have jelly bean on it with games like Real racing 3, trial extreme 3, shark attack evolution, this is the phone for you. if you put jelly bean on it, in order to get games run smoothly, you must FORCE GPU RENDRING FOR 2D in developer settings. i run it on slimbean by blk_jack from xda btw i used the phone properly and i have no problems whatsoever. if a key missbehaves i made a tutorial about that, search how to repair bad contacts with photos on xda.

  • i would happily buy it for that price :D

  • Of course this phone is upgradeable 4.2 androad version.

  • Can it be upgraded to ICS or jelly bean?

  • I've had this phone for nearly 3 years. It's a great phone, easy to use and has never failed me. My only issue is the battery life is short when wifi is enabled, but that's an issue for all smartphones. I love the slide-out keyboard. My partner has an iPhone 5 and as flashy as the iPhone is, I still prefer my HTC.

  • I have bought HTC desire Z from E bay but my phone dont have radio. However the smae is seen in the specifications. Pls help

  • Great phone.used for over 3 years.strong corning glass.just have to upgrade

  • Over all this is a near garbage phone. I bought it brand new almost 2 ys ago and on its 1st birthday it died. Still in the drawer and I don't feel like get it fixed and use it again. I own 3 other htcs they are somewhat better. The only thing I miss is the keyboard. (just the keyboard, that opening mechanism is the biggest mistake the htc ever did)

  • nothing is as stable as gingerbread on this device

  • I've had this phone for nearly 3 years. Great phone! it bounces well and even survived a fall out of my pocket in the pouring rain! Gorilla Glass is superb.. no scratches at all. I'm only upgrading because I need better reception (4gLTE) but still going with the HTC brand.

  • I gave my father this phone about 1yr ago and he is still delighted with it. I used it daily for 18mths before that and found it an outstanding device. I only changed for the one x but even now miss the qwerty keyboard. Was really quick on ics or 4.0 but unsure if jelly bean or cm 10.1 may be out for it.

  • I love it very much.I has no problem.it runs like butter.super lcd is the best.camera lence is superb.thanks HTC.

  • Am loving this phone but the flaw it has is the battery, i hope htc would bring an update that will reduce the rapid drain of the battery.

  • The phone is at best manageable. I've had swell.time with the on-screen functions as well as the G-accessories, but the flaw is the battery (which hardly last 12hrs on average use), the propensity of the phone to hang when you have more than 20 apps installed, particularly the likes of Skype, and Yahoo voice and video. Apart from all these, the phone is at best manageable for a mid-end smartphone.

  • Hey guyz,, i fell in love with this phone after seeing it on my friend... I am really thinking about buying it.. my only dilemma is its battery.. does it have at least 2-3 days backup???

  • i got my desire z it wont turn on again battery drained up.have tried many options but it does help please help me out

  • I'm a phone dealer and I have an opportunity to try out a lot of different phones. Here is my short review of a used HTC Desire Z: BUILD QUALITY(the chassis): The quality is excellent, although there are a few perks here and there. The battery cover is wobbly a little bit but that's nothing to worry about DISPLAY: while it's not as good as on some flagship phones, its still good enough considering it is a S-LCd. Sunlight legibility is average, not good, but not bad either. Viewing angles are average. TELEPHONY: telephony and signal reception is generally trouble-free, although the sound may sometimes cut off in the areas of weak signal. The earpiece sound is very clean and pretty loud. Like with all phones, be careful not to set the earpiece volume on maximum all the time because the earpiece sound could get a bit screechy with time. Hold it at 8/10 or 9/10, maximum only if you have to. CAMERA: this part is the weakness of all HTC phones. Photo quality is a tad below average for a 5 MPix, it's too sensitive on a light change, so some parts can be too dark and some can be too bright. It needs a lot of light to take a good photo. As for video recording, the good thing is that the video sound is way better than on HTC Desire and Desire HD . It still suffers from too high light sensitivity, as it can record at the advertised 30 fps only on a perfect light. Any lower light than perfect leads to a drastic decrease of framerate, as it hovers around 16 fps at average. That can be somewhat bypassed by setting the ISO at 800 and exposition to -2, but the quality will suffer. GPS: it's fast to acquire a lock and keep a strong reception. The only serious disadvantage that this phone has is a too low effective RAM memory. While on paper it says 512 MB, in reality the average free memory you have is around 100 MB, so the HTC Sense resetting itself often can't be avoided. This can also be somewhat overriden if you install the ADWLauncher EX, as it leaves the phone with an additional 40 MB more of free RAM compared to the stock Sense.

  • u can upgrade unofficiaaly .....using cyanogenmod...

  • one said v can buy xperia pro Is to much of cost

  • is it possible to upgrade to Android ICS V.4

  • Its good cell.

  • Buy a Sony Ericsson xperia pro.Stronger,faster.It has an 8 mp camera.

  • Htc desire Z is not bad,but not good, even. Its very far from the best.If you stick to slide qwerty phones, you have to compromise.Cause you wont find a high end phones with slide qwerty keypad. The manufacturers dont care about them anymore. So,you will find maximum middle category phones. But if you want a slide qwerty phone, choose the Sony Xperia pro.Its stronger, faster, has an 8 mp camera. It has less internal, but you can supplement it with SD-card.

  • Yes in ebay...it costs 7.4K..

  • Hello guys, im looking for slide smartphone, is this HTC Desire Z still in selling on market? Or guys any recommend for me slide key pad smartphone?

  • One of the last best phone from htc! Come on HTC, stop making iphonish phone! Get sdcards, removable battery and trackpad back ! please

  • fantastic handset

  • i must say after a month of using this phone..it was AWESOME!!!It can play hd games like dead trigger, temple run, amazing spider man, dark knignt rises,gangstar,bia,pes,rf13 etc without root or chainfire3d...nd d touch response is just awesome..luv u htc.

  • Are u a mechanic or a carpenter that you always use an hammer on it?

  • its the most important cell phone i ever use among all phones i had used,it is my special, favorite and desired phone, thanks HTC for your effort to make such important phones

  • i have been having trouble with the desire z becos ma screen touch keep spoiling and i dont know wat to do becos it is kind of expensive. i change it almost every three month wat sud i do

  • Its an Awesome phone and easy to use love the QWETY keyboard and sensitive buttons. However though,The machine is too slow though, hangs alot and restarts on its own too much battery sucks I can't get it to work for more than two straight hrs without having to recharge it. Cannot run heavy applications or fast games ie autocad or Temple run after a while it heats up and stops responding

  • I use this phone since a few months. Its ok for basic things, but its nowhere comparing the best phones today. If you want to play HD games, like Dead Trigger, the 800 Mhz processor is too weak,it will lag,it will freeze. The battery is average, not too strong, not too weak. Its enough for a day, roughly. There are much better phones on the market, try to buy a phone with a dual- core processor minimum.A quad-core phone is the best.A single core 800 Mhz CPU with 512 Mb RAM is not enough for a hardcore user.

  • sony xperia pro or desire z ??? help me

  • the fone s a nice 1 tho i got it lyk a month ago, th only thing i observed s dat the 3G network hardly come online in fact, av not seen it b4 even though it is set in the settings. nd the upgrade hardly install even afta being downloaded. wats the course????? ani help??

  • I would suggest u remove the battery

  • i am a new on this handsome device, all i want from you who own it, a nice advice for this : i wanna buy this htc desire z, but i am a little fraid about some specifications like the battery and the 800 MHRT Quelcome CPU ..... any advice ,thanks !!

  • Exactly, thats what most Desire Z does, depending on what you use it for, for some it can happen many times every day. If anyone looking to buy qwerty phone now, do NOT get Desire Z, go for SE Xperia Pro, faster, smoother, more powerful, the only downside of the Pro is the somewhat limited internal storage but most apps can be moved to the included 8GB microSD card, so its not too bad after all.

  • Is it worth buying?

  • The drafts of my phone does not work, why?

  • Just long press the power key the options will appear on Ya screen then u can select to restart ya fon.

  • Just long press the power key on the right side on top of the Ya phone the option will come on Ya screen then u choose the option.

  • @ bebe, the control at the side of the phone for ringer volume, do not reduce it to the last (this is where it goes on vibration), but if you reduce it by one less, then the ringer volume goes on silent and not vibration.

  • when you lower the audio on the phone with the button on the side to make it silent. DONT let it go all the way down so you get the vibrating phone icon... just until the sound icon (tone-icon) is crossed over.... if you went down all the way to the vibrating-phone-icon just go one click up with the sound button on the side and you're there.... dont know if that made any sence to you??

  • i bought htc at before 2 moths it is very gd phone but i have one problem i can't able 2 dactivate vibration when am put my phone in silent also plz any one help me

  • Been using this device for about 1.5 years now. Device randomly freezes in sleep mode but a battery pull and restart usually fixes it. Too many apps running will cause device to slow down but still functional after a few moments wait. Device is sturdy, well built. I have dropped this device a few times on sharp stones (accidental of course) and never made a scratch on the screen.

  • my htc is perfectly okay, but the little is that my connnection is eating up my cash. i dont know what i configure on it, when ever i load credit on my phone under certain seconds everything will wipe off. why?

  • I bet its a problem with tape from the screen

  • My HS was hang at the time of using & I have tried to restart the handset but unable, so I have open my HS battery & after replacing the battery try to restart the HS. After the consequence my HS is completely dead, even though I have tried to charging the battery but no response found. Please help me out of this situation if any body faced same problem previously or I need expert opinion for over come the status.

  • Thanks for feedback Dave. So you did not try the latest JB ROM for this one yet? I guess ICS 4.0.4 is ok for me, as long as there is no HTC Sense and other HTC bloatware to slow it down and make it hang it should perform OK. You are right about the battery, this one also is 2 years old and the battery is surprisingly good for its age.

  • I have this phone on CM7 (ICS 4.0.4) and it works brilliantly. I still use my original battery 2 years after buying the device and get a good full days use out of it. Great phone, shame no one else is releasing something new with a hardware keyboard.

  • P.O.S. (piece of shit!) - loses pictures and video clips, presents random screens while typing text and email, avoid if at all possible.

  • NO1? Is wifi and mobile data working on the latest JB ROM for this phone? Or, whats not working?

  • My daughter is upgrading to Note II and i thought i root her old Desire Z. Any news about custom ROM with Jellybean for this one?

  • Had this phone for 6 months now. It was ok untill 2 months ago when the screen/display suddenly changed to black & white, sometimes fluctuating to green colour. It didn't fall from height or into water. Anyone with similar probs¿ Any idea on how I can fix this?

  • Are you using the HTC sense homescreen? if so, the lag is due to that, its not the hw's fault..try to use a different launcher. Also, the games you are playing, try to check the HW requirements, this phone is a bit old now, so most games wont play well on this phone. But anyway, we have a different approach for the phone usage. :D

  • I have the Htc Desire Z since a few months, its good, but very far from the best phones. The phone slows down like hell,if you have too much application(how much is too much?).If you want to play a high quality game, like Dead Trigger,it will lag,it will froze, you cant play the game properly. Sometimes it takes about 10 seconds, until it loads the homescreen, after I exit an application. The 512 MB Ram is about 380 MB in the reality. Now I have a special problem, and I cant solve it.When Im downloading an application from for example the 4shared.com,it download it,but when I want to install it,the button with the INSTALL label doesnt work! I touch it,but doesnt works! The button with the CANCEL label works...Unbelievable!Does anybody know the solution? Thanks.

  • i bought this mobile before two days it is a good phone but some apps are in one diffrent langauge i can't able to read that langauge i want to change in english any one plz help me the apps name is ( shou news,QQ security ) like tis plz rply me

  • actually, using a different photo viewer solves the problem, i have had this phone for almost 2 years now, no problem so far on screen, battery or the hinge, although I have the motorola razr now, i still love my Z, the best for chatting/email purposes, when you need long typing.. :D

  • pics arent lost... though they dont appear in the gallery but they do exist in any of the folders... you may find them using a file manager...

  • do this phone have slide ribbon issues? like in nokia phones for example Nokia E-75

  • good phone been using it for more than a year. slight problem with the camera as some picture get lost after some time. must be some bugs?

  • It has a bug when opening Gallery. It fails to load some of the pictures taken with camera. That's the only drawback I experienced so far. Other than that, the phone is great

  • i am using this phone from last one and half year. its great phone and all of things are awesome.

  • I have both this and the Xperia Pro. The Xperia Pro is better in almost everything, for example the keyboard is a lot better, so many advantages. Its also 25% faster and doesnt give you any serious slowdowns or hangs as is common on HTCs (HTC Sense is slow, theres no denying it)

  • yeah bro love this phone. Go to aliexpress.com you can get a brand new one for only $170.

  • Android automatically records your contacts within your gmail account, so you should simply be able to sync when you get it fixed / a new one. Had this phone for two years, i am likely to replace it at end of contract as it's so great.

  • Your contacts should be backed up automatically if you have entered your Google account. Just go to contacts.google.com and you should be able to see them ;)

  • I have had the phone for almost a year now. The physical keyboard works wonders and performance is great if you dont go crazy with apps. The phone dropped from my pocket while riding my bike, I was horrified, a passerby picked it up with concern as big as mine, and to our surprise, there was only a tiny scratch at the bottom of the display. Now Im sure I didnt threw money away when I bought it.

  • what website can i refer to,,overclock it ...??

  • Hi all! I have this phone from january 2011, it was great. Yesterday i made update of some programs. When started Book and travel to update it frozed for a long time, so i removed the battery. Up to now i cant turn it on. The battery is ok, i checked it. I've tried to recharge, nothing. I gave it to service, and the man said that cant even boot. He will try to fix it, but all my information - contacts, sms, etc. will be gone. Any ideas how can i return my contacts? ADVICE: BACK UP ALL INFO IN YOUR PHONE EVERY DAY!

  • I've had this device for more than a year now. I could go into how HTC are annoying with their policies or how carriers make things annoying, but instead I will focus on what this device CAN be. Coming from a Nokia E71 (also posted opinion on this web site) I wanted the things it didn't have: Proper Web Browsing, proper online video, good camera. This device gets stuff done. Well. It communicates well. The physical keyboard makes chatting a breeze (unlike On Screen Keyboard which hide half the conversation, ahm iphone ahm) I even wrote a bit of code on it to calculate something via an SDK called AIDE. The world of Android is literally at your fingertips, and except for games that specifically require nvidia tegra, everything works. It syncs with several accounts, it lets me do work on the go, It plays music in my car while the navigation is also telling me where to go, this is a wonderful device. The only issue is that it is easily breakable. This device, unlike the legendary nokia e71, would not survive the apocalypse. so be careful, but enjoy!

  • Htc desire z of course!!!!nokia e7 is shit it has a nasty keybord and a very bad touch screen

  • My friend....you got it all wrong!!! It seems like you bought non original phone and I am sura about it becz many many times I have dropped it on the ground from a high distance probably 6 feet and nothing happened to the phone not even one scratch, the battery life is not poor like you are saying it is actually acceptable and I have noticed this but I can not say neither that the battery life is perfect neither the battery life is poor...btw this phone is not at allll fragile it is very solid, made of high quality materials and has a solid build quality and it is quite durable :)

  • It depends how much was the force of the hit...if you dropped it from a high distance it is normal!!!

  • Actually you are wrong,I have had this phone(htc desire z) for a little bit less than a year and many times I have dropped it and threw it and it didn't get damaged and also many times I was pushing this phone to the limit by downloading a lot of big applications at the same time and surfing the internet and maybe the temperature of the phone was hitting the 50 degrees!!!

  • Hello there, THIS IS A CALL TO ALL DESIRE Z LOVERS, Desire Z is my phone for little over a year. It got one upgrade only so far. I recommend that we e-mail htc to provide the ics upgrade or even the JB which is better. I am asking Desire Z owners to start e-mailing the company for such upgrades for their great benefits that suit such a great high quality phone. Thanks all

  • Hello there, Desire Z is my phone too for little over a year. It got one upgrade only so far. Ibrecommend that we e-mail htc to provide the ics upgrade or even the JB which is better. I will post a comment now to ask Desire Z owners to start e-mailing the company for such upgrades for their great benefits that suit such a great high quality phone.

  • Good phone..i've been using it for the past 1 and half year..the only and major problem being that it gets damaged very easily and you have to get it repaired quite often.

  • The only problem that I got on DesireZ is no upgrade to Android 4.X and no google play store app :-(...

  • forget an official ICS bud search google there are many hombrew made ICS like miui

  • guys this phone is good but my full battery is lasting for 3 hrs when my wi -fi is on and my phone is not accepting memory card above 2 gig ,but it suppose to accept maximum of 32 gig ,i dont know why please help

  • I have been using HTC Desire z from past one year and i love it. Works better than any other 1Ghz phone my friends are using. All inbuilt and android application works perfectly , great sense of touch,Gingerbread 2.3.3 works perfectly fine. I found only two disadvantages overall weight(becoz of the sliding qwerty keypad) and battery performance (which i think same problem with any smartphone), other than that the phone is simply superb. I would suggest to use rubberized or leather protector case to avoid any scratches. It would have been great if HTC release ICS for this phone, any idea if they are going to ???

  • Excuse me but I am not lying about my review of this phone. People have different experiences with the phones that they have.

  • I just sent my HTC Desire Z in because the battery began draining down to zero in less than 24 hrs. When HTC recieved it they said that the mother board was damaged? I dropped the phone once about 6 months ago and it caused a slight superficial scratch on the screen but otherwise it was working fine. Is this normal with these phones because HTC wants to bill me $200 for the repair

  • I noticed the battery lasts longer with the Gingerbread update. Do you have the latest updates on your phone?

  • i bought htc desire z,but the problem am having with it is that, the batttery drains out so quickly.is there a solution for this?

  • I agree with you, i just bought the htc desire z, but i am regretting, it hangs up when i was reading a pdf file, now i can t even switch on the phone, i have it from 5 days. It is my first HTC phone, but i am sure of it, i will never buy an HTC product again.

  • Phone works perfect until the on board memory burns out under six months and HTC does not service outside of the USA

  • If you root it and unlock the bootloader, yes, you can put ICS on it. I'm running ICS (Cyanogenmod 9) for a few months now and it's much better, faster, more fluid than the stock software, be it Froyo or Gingerbread. Also, to the people complaining about the 800 MHz CPU, once you root the phone you can easily overclock it, I'm usually running mine on 1.5 GHz.

  • Can anyone tell me what is the current cost of this phone. I'm seeing some on ebay for USD$180 but i'm not sure how true it is. Please advise. Thanks

  • Desire Z. Trust me.

  • I owned this phone because of the fact of keyboard, I have iPhone, blackberry. from work and the galaxy s1, but I prepared the htc desire z comparison to the 3 that I have, I drop it many times but haven't experience shattering the glass since its made from gorilla glass, maybe you shouldn't throw it hard! The keyboard hard to handle,if ur to used to it, tooks me a while to like since I owned the old htc windows with keyboard as well. Generally quite good but the camera sometime when focusing the subjec and it's moves a lot, you won't have good shot.

  • which one is better? Htc desire z or nokia e7?

  • yes the camera is not that nice , the cpu is less powerful than the one in desire a8181 , but you can learn how to use the camera for best shots by practice. the keybord is cool , I like the softkeys, because people are complaining about how fast they lose performance, I complain too. but in general view, Htc rocks

  • in ur view all statement r tru na.....bcoz i m thinking 2 buy it. plz tell me more info. bout it. nd i thnk as i feel camera qua. of ths fon is nt too gud....m i r8 or wrong tellll me soon....pplz

  • 2 years on, I still love this phone desperate all the latest phone come out on market. I will not change this phone, I'm gona use it until it breaks down and by then I hope HTC will make new version HTC desire z with faster processor as most phone now are 1.5gb as is not much of a problem as I use WiFi most of the time. I generally really hate texting on any touchscreen phone which that's why I love the slide out keyboard. I hate the fact people only buy iPhone because it apple and yes they have good advert on tv the market their product not because its a great phone, if they all know knew what HTC are capable of then they will think twice about purchasing iPhone

  • where do you reside?

  • I wanna buy a phone but i don't know either want to buy this phone or sony xperia neo v.. Help me..

  • For a phone that is a year and a half old and one that compromises other specs to fit in a physical keyboard, you will find that it will not be as fluid as more recent phones or even phones that came out late in 2010. You will find that you will have to compromise on some things in order to get a phone with a phyiscal keyboard. My experience with the Desire Z with the Gingerbread update is that the Sense UI seems to need to reload from time to time. If you start an app and go to the home screen, start another and do this several times, eventually, you will run into a situation where the screen tells you that it is loading and then you have to wait a few to several seconds before the home screens load again. This happens most often if you go into the Market app and then press the home screen. I generally have several widgets and use all 7 of my home screens. If you use fewer home screens and widgets, you may find that it is a lot smoother. If you haven't used your phone for a while and then you unlock, the UI is generally pretty smooth at that time. Like it's in your pocket for a while and you need to check your calendar. It should be smooth then. If you start opening a lot of different apps, you will experience this slow down at some point. As for the apps, I find that they are all pretty smooth. The one thing I recommend is that you use the Opera Mini browser. The phone has a slower processor and the stock browser may be a bit slow in rendering more complex web pages. Opera Mini renders the web pages on their servers and then sends a compressed stream to your phone's browser app. I use Opera Mini unless there is Flash contect or other content that requires a full featured browser. For other apps, you might notice the occasional choppiness, but it is usually quite smooth. Battery life has improved since the Gingerbread update. On Froyo, I was able to surf about 3.5 hours from a full charge and had 20% left. I feel that with Gingerbread, the battery life feels (very subjective) like it is about 15-20% more. On a side note, I noticed that the UI on Froyo is smoother than Gingerbread. Battery life lasts longer on GB. I haven't had any heat issue with my phone. The battery does get warmer with more use, but no where near uncomfortable. You notice it warmer, but it doesn't affect your using the device. With regard to the physical keyboard, the hinge mechanism was desiged so that you do not need a lot of force to open and close it. Many people do not like the fact that the spring is not very strong and if you hold only one half the phone, the other half dangles. This is by design. When I use the phone, I'm holding it in the way that the screen/keyboard never opens by accident and almost never closes by accident. The only situation where the keyboard will likely close on you is if you lie on your back and hold the phone above your head with the keyboard open. If you hold only the keyboard half, gravity will cause the screen to close down on the keyboard. This is the one situation where the loose spring may be an issue. For me, I just prop up the screen with a finger. All other positions are fine. The feel of the hinge depends on your personal preference. If you want or expect a tighter spring, you will be disappointed. For me, I like that it is easier to open and close the keyboard compared to a phone like the N97 which has a similar mechanism, but with a much tighter spring. You may notice a little bit of play when you apply some pressure to the corners of the phone when the keyboard is closed. I notice it only when I am looking for it. When using the phone normally, I don't notice it at all. This little bit of play has bothered some people. I use the keyboard almost daily for the year and a half that I have owned it. I have not had any issue with the keyboard or hinge mechanism during that time. Although there is a little bit of play if you look for it, I have not noticed any deterioration in the hinge or any increase in play. My criticism of the keyboard is that you need to apply some amount of force to press a key. I would have prefered the keys to require less force to press. I find that if my fingernails are long, I have a little harder time using the physical keyboard than when I have just clipped my nails.

  • i want 2 buy... plz call # 3227770477

  • Salaam bro, can Arabic be added onto this phone?

  • Very good phone! 6 months and had no problems. No automatic restarts (like other android phones), very fast, the qwerty keyboard is really comfortable. I had doubt about the 800Mhz processor, but it is acting like a much better one as it never lagged and worked perfectly! Physical keyboard never slide out accidentally. I recommend this phone!

  • Yes, my wife is very right. I love this phone like I love her!

  • To Stuntman, On the basis of your experience with this phone for 1 & half year, would you please suggest me to buy it or not? I like the qwerty keyboard. But smooth, lag free and fluid user interface is more important to me. I don't mean it to be a powerhouse. I just need fast & hang free UI. Would you please give your valuable suggestion? Anyway what about the battery life? Please also comment on the heat up issue & stability of the QWERTY keyboard.

  • my husband's phone is htc desire z,and he told me that it is nice,

  • where did you buy it from

  • I see from the specifications here on gsmarena that the htc desire z has a radio with RDS but i cant identify it on my fon...any help...and skype is working now.

  • Dear All, i am going to purchase HTC Z, can anyone suggest me should i get it or suggest me another phone for longer conference calling as i am concern with telecom field. Plz feedback

  • Do not buy this phone! Its a horrible phone! I've had it for less than 3 months and i'm regretting wasting my money on this. The battery life is so poor, it lasts four hours with continuous heavy use, and even if you dont use it the battery wont last a day. The keyboard is horrible- its too wide so you cant hold it comfortably, the buttons are too shallow so you cant type fast. The screen quality is poor, you can hardly use it outdoors, and even if you turn the brightness to the lowest, the screen still uses 80% of battery! The phone is very heavy but so fragile, I dropped it once on its back and the whole screen shattered. The keyboard is loose and slides out on its own. Even the back cover wobbles when you use the phone. The loudspeaker volume is so low and feeble, you wont hear it ringing unless its right next to you. Now its refusing to charge. I like htc but the desire z is the worst phone they have ever made.

  • actually! we required video calling?? there are app for me cos it is useful option to youth.... and video chatting is must for us pls some solution... otherwise this a great phone i was proud!!

  • ithink htc desire z is a great phn i just order i surely will enjoy it

  • Thats cuz it doesnt have video calling!

  • It does support video calling. I have used Skype flawlessly with it. Only problem is that you,ll have to use rear facing camera.

  • Yes do agree a huge touch screen with a sliding qwerty keypad is one of a kind. Getting d best of both wrld. N it does make communication much mr easier. Plz plz plz do produce that one of a kind ph with a huge touch screen and a sliding qwerty physicl keypad. It would hv a huge sale on markt I bet with a longer batry life, a faster ram and a huge internl storage. Lov htc n I bet it would produce dt 1 of a kind ph soon enough and wont b keeping us waiting anymr.

  • hey friends just wanted to know if it is possible to upgrade the software to android 4 version (Icecream sandwich) thnx

  • it's not a much go0d phone:( as it does not supports video calling ....

  • i am presently having android 2.3.3 version..and do we have any update coming to our phone nearby??? I also have an idea to root my phone to enhance the RAM..is it a better idea and suggest me how???

  • it is not removed man!.. its just changed to play store check ur fone it would be thr named play store*

  • gud but my htc desire is beter in look

  • Yeah. I was hoping they would show off a One Z as well. I just get the feeling that they will not make a keyboard slider phone in the near future.

  • salams, please can anyone let me know that how should i get android market( where from apps are downloaded ) ,i dont know how it has been removed from my phone?

  • Anyone know what about aktualization 4 desire z ?? i need android ICS :(

  • Good thing---camera bad thing---It's battery is terrible, sound quality is not impressive, and the last thing, it gets hot too often.

  • I have had my HTC Desire Z for around 8 months now, it is the most stupidest phone i have ever come across. It always freezes if i download something off the android market and now if i turn it on it won't even go pasted the white HTC screen without freezing. Never buying a HTC again!

  • The phone it's sheet three times it's broken and now it's not working

  • Same thought here... I love HTC Sense & how the phone (Desire Z) fits perfectly in my hand grip, but Sony Xperia Pro wins the competition with better keyboard, camera & audio quality, plus it's much more lighter to carry. I'm sure a lot of people will be interested if HTC release another phone similar to Desire Z (or even the better looking T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, minus the weight), but with better, if not the same specs as Xperia Pro... just look at how many good reviews Xperia Pro are receiving. I missed my old Desire Z, but for now, I'm happier with my Xperia Pro.

  • htc please produce a new phone with keyboard to replace desire z. perhaps htc one z? there is not much now in the market. the latest is from sony xperia pro. many people need phone with keyboard but can't find the good and latest. i bet u r going to get good sales if u make one.

  • This phone is shocking, it has been sent back to HTC three times and claimed on the insurance once. The problems have still not been resolved, the battery lasts approx. 18 hours when not in use and approx 4 hours when used (if that), the phone gets extremely hot when on charge.

  • I was really excited to get this phone when it first came out and thought it was awesome then i realized that the sound is horrible. Also the keyboard is sketchy and is easy to break...mine broke on my phone. Another thing the battery blowsss.

  • by using PaPaGo, you will get free GPS

  • Very bad sound, many bad things about this phone. Get a xperia pro, much better in every way, far more stable and faster and reliable and better signal and much much better cam and keyboard and sound, and so on. The display of Z is good, but thats all. I have both Z and xperia pro and the difference is big, do not consider Z.

  • Best phone, worst battery. have to charge it thrice a day. Why would HTC put such a small battery on such a large screen?

  • Camera quality is very good. Is better than you have at Galaxy S+ (I have both devices).

  • I need this phone in my life....

  • i had this fwn for 11 moths nw, the only thing i hate abt it is da battery. now when m charging, the battery doesnt get full at all. is da battery still under warranty? answer anyone

  • how is d sound quality. is it better than Samsung dj beat?

  • I want to buy this phone but I have doubt regarding its camera quality....

  • how can i get gps for free?

  • Of course HTC Desire Z.. Because It have a big screen & also big keypad. the best one features is Andro205 GPU

  • Which one has more advantages and is best between htc desire z and htc chacha?

  • had this phone for 2 years now and not had a problem with it, very responsive to all commands and never have a problem with internet or it making calls while in my pocket. so stop the hating with the desire z its the best phone ever, although aint used the iphone 4s yet

  • Great phone. I like the hardware keyboard, never was comfortable with touch keys. I'm using it as a wifi hotspot all the time to have Internet on laptops.

  • guys you are commenting that this phone is great and it really is i'm thinking to buy it but i'm thinking about this phone and htc desire hd can u please hlep me and say which phone is better for me i'm 16 and i relly like games on adroid so desire z or desire hd ??

  • I bought this phone from nottingham. It's been around 9.5 months using this phone. Everyday I'm falling in love with this phone. Never used such an amzong touchsceen user friendly phone..Amazing speed....It's hell sturdy as I dropped it some 7 times I was amazed to see that the phone is perfectly fine keeping apart physical scratches.

  • The best phone i ever bought.

  • Bought this phone and was very happy initially -thought is was my dream phone. when it started malfunctioning, the list of problems became endless. Overheating, my screen was not responding, i have to slide it to unlock it and use it. Finally it i couldn't use it for a second without an app popping up. To add to all this issues, the battery life was wacked. Its so painful that the warranty is not up to a year. I have only had mine for about 7 months. Am so pissed, should have gone for something else.

  • Its really awesome i love ma cell , i met accident as well as ma phone on spot it got good en-of injury and scratches bit still no complaints and no error . awesome . even ma friends IPHONE dont have so much option as ma cell have , really great and nice only battery u need to charge everyday .all other with this phone in this 9 months very great awesome picture quality.good to have radio and great speed

  • agree

  • User available RAM is 368 MB. Overclocking the DZ to 1 - 1.2 GHz makes the phone fly in combination with CM7 or personally, I'm using ILWT CM7. Cheers!

  • Only 2nd phone I've owned, like it a lot, solid body with access controls in the right places, one click closes the screen but calls will still come thru. Love having weather & phone app at a touch, geared to my location. Qwerty keyboard excellent esp in landscape mode, don't use flip out one much but no problem with it coming loose, Suggest new user gets new Google A/c as there's no alternative to get started with email. My old one full of rubbish but removing Google mail a/c required total reset. My pop a/c took ages to set up, workaround was to have Google as smtp server. Prefer Windows-style Inbox,Outbox etc for Messages but Menu button/Folders does show all. Google Browser works fine, but Opera mini brought up a quicker map, love GPS. Like the pull-down 'most-recent app. used' window. Camera has flash, it can inadvertently 'jump' to video tho, & there's a flashlight. In all, a fun phone, still learning, don't use Twitter etc, manual runs to 223 pages.

  • HTC Z Ive had mine now for 12 months, never had an Iphone, never wanted one. The HTC Z has everything, its smart, best phone I have ever owned and with the querty slideout keyboard allows ease of writing long messages & emails. 100% would by another, unfortunatly they have stopped making the sliding keyboard so Ill just have to keep this a little longer. I love it ♥

  • I have had mine for 7 months now. I am very happy with this phone. I upgraded from a newer Blackberry. This phones battery life is terrible, I have dropped it about 400 times and I honestly havent taken good care of it at all as I usually do with my phones. The result of me carrying it in my pocket has scratched the plastic camera cover on the back to the point the camera will take great pics still, but nothing close up any more. The keyboards wears good, none of the paint has came off or anything and its lit very well underneath, I have not had any problems with the z-hinge as others have reported. On occasion I have to try 3 or 4 times to unlock the screen to use the phone as the screen acts like I am not fully sliding my finger across the entire width of the screen. For all you pervs, you can turn the camera sound off easily, even without an app. T-mobile users got the Gingerbread update about 2 months ago too. Great phone as long as you don't mind charging all the time if you use it a lot. Replacement batteries are 3-4 dollars on ebay I say eff it and just charge whenever I have the opportunity.

  • The screen on my Z completely died after only a few months use, at first it became unresponsive that soon got worse until it finally completly died! HTC have very bad build-quality, unable to keep a stable 3g-connection and some have a "death-grip"..., and they never really fully fixed the fatal bug with ÅÄÖ! I will never ever buy anything from HTC again! The problem with SE xperia pro is that none of the SE screens are really schratch-resistant at all!

  • love the phone, amazing when it'd been rooted. The battery life is horrible, can not go without a day without charging however, that still does not change the initial opinion about the phone.

  • Yeah I agree, this phone is wonderful, I have had it for about 3 months now. But the only problem Is that the hinge is too weak and it slides open by itself, plus it wobbles in closed mode. Sometimes I feel like snapping it off. I say this phones hinge can be abit of a problem.

  • Around 160mb user available

  • if you see this fhone very people.....

  • hey is this phone better than HTC desire S

  • This phone is great. Had it for over a year now. Never experienced any hang problems. Of course I'm picky to what apps I install, some apps actually causes hang problems and slowdowns.

  • I've had my Desire Z for over a year and I don't have this hanging issue that you experience. It comes with Froyo. I got the Gingerbread update this past summer. Gingerbread is a bit slower, but the batter life seemed better and there are some new and improved widgets.

  • Hi man, all HTCs hangs alot because of the superslow HTC Sense ui, but yes it seems desire Z has additional problems. Mine hangs onli occasionally (but still too often ofcors), however my sister had one for a while, and it was hanging many times a day, even many times in an hour, removing the battery to get it back up was the onli way, which is the same problem my Desire Z also encounters occasionally. HTC is in general bad fones, plus they are overpriced and have poor service/warranty

  • yes u have the mini pro, so what.. I have the xperia pro, plus dezire z. They both sux coz of android 2.3 but all 2.3 androids are terrible so its not a valid point maybe. HTC Sense is by far much slower than the ui of sony3riczn, HTC Sense is the main enemy of HTC. When in addition the CPU is 20% slower on Desire Z then things can get really bad. Buy Desire Z only if you are 100% sure u will root it. The display of the Z is much better than that of xperia pro but thats the only big advantage it has.

  • Desire Z. I have SE Xperia Mini Pro and Desire Z. Desire Z I Like. SE good, but I Like Desire Z.

  • Best Ever

  • this is the best phone ever i am currently using this phone wow

  • Question for Desire Z users How much ram is user avaible???

  • Xperia Pro

  • what more gd? Desire z or xperia pro?

  • Somebody help, got this phone and now. It givesitself commands ....including making unnecessary calls. Also hangs up and. Can't respond to touch. Any solution out there?

  • yes

  • Hey guys, i hope i will get this phone in 2 months or so, so can you answer some of my questions on it? First, should i update it to gingerbread? Second, will something bad happen to it if it falls from 1 meter height a couple of times? Thanks in advance

  • Hello, i am probably going to buy this phone, so i kinda need someone to tell me: Should i change it to gingerbread? Or will something bad happen to it if it falls from 1 meter height a couple of times?

  • Think the problem with the HTC update is the Sense itself, since i bought the phone ive been using Go Launcher, then after th Gingerbread update, ive noticed the big lag during the homescreen loading, then i switched back to Go Laucher and never had the issue, but better battery life. Too bad though, i cannot use the cool HTC widgets.. Good thing about Android, you can modify/customise it anytime you want. Ive had this phone for 11months now and never had any issues, other than what was mentioned lag using the Sense(after the gingerbread update). Overall experience wiht the phone is very good. Really recommend this piece of Hardware.

  • My opinion of Gingerbread is that the battery seems to last longer, and there are a number of nice widgets. The home screen tends to be a little faster when switching from portrait to landscape and back when you open and close the keyboard. The down side, is that the phone occasionally takes time to load the home screen if you exit out of certain apps. It could take a few to several seconds. Stability did not seem to change much for me. I did not have any stability issues with my phone.

  • Hello there, Just got the phone a week ago and im in love with the flip open keyboar, whole reason i got it. Anyways, shall i update it to gingerbread???? Cant find reviews regarding the pros and cons of it.

  • Yes, buddy. you can download an application called SMS pro. This applications gives you the ease of changing your inbox view from threaded view to the normal view.

  • somebody's wanting to swap his iphone 3gs 16gb to my desire Z.. i didnt even consider the idea! i so love this phone.. the best! :D

  • hD3 please answer my question, thanks. I want a smartphone on which I can install a different variety of softwares including social networking softwares, office and dictionaries. I have bunch of typings, I send SMS and chat a lot so I want a phone by which I can type easily and can do two or three things at one time (e.g. chat and send sms, or chat and use dictionary) without lowering the speed. So which one of these two models do you recommend?

  • Is it possible to have folders like inbox sent items for sms messages. I have them all listed in one list. I like to have sorted in few folders and to move them for archive.

  • the same problem i am suffering... does anybody tell me .. how can i connect phone for sync. i have downloaded htc sync plus i also have activated debugging usb. but i did not get any notification of SELECT SYNC OR USB when i connect my phone from cable.. device not detected by htc sync help me pls.

  • yes it has 3d hw acclerator adrenio 205

  • excellent device, issues would mostly depend on ROM, which can be changed if you own it. Highly recommended.

  • Just bought it today! :) After quite some research, this one seemed to promise the most. I'll get back here soon with hands-on impressions - it is highly unlikely that I'd do anything else but jump up'n'down of joy :)) Let's see anyway.

  • Dont buy, its overpriced and full of bugs. Very good display but thats all, sony ericsson xperia pro is cheaper and faster and better in every other way. i have them both, the desire Z is a nighmare to use after getting used to the xperia pro, the lags and bugs of the HTC Sense are incredible and annoying, and keyboards are in different leagues, signal strength is totally superior on the xperia and so on and on.

  • Unit is heavy but the performance is 101%! i love this phone!

  • Brill phone

  • Does this phone got a " 3D graphics HW accelerator " ??? plz reply fast

  • the best smarth fone ever................

  • It will not get the honeycomb but will get the Ice Cream Sandwich though.

  • This phone rocks the best phone ever seen better then iPhone 4 this phoine is the most specialll think i ever see.

  • Does this phone got a " 3D graphics HW " ??? plz reply fast

  • Yeah go for it. This phone is amazing. I have it & I love it. It's just a little heavy tough.

  • it is

  • it has a very good display, and it has ok support for video hardware decoding (which would be great if it was crashing less often), and thats all thats good about it i think. Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is better in every other way, its faster and smoother and less annoying to use, much less software bugs (all HTCs are full of them), better cam and better keyboard. I have them both and the display is really good on the HTC but it aint too bad on the Xperia Pro either, and the slighly higher resolution on the Xperia Pro makes 16:9 video to perfectly fit the screen, while on the Desire Z you get small black bars on top and bottom. Plus the Xperia Pro is cheaper and has HDMI and things actually work on this phone, which is not a skill HTC values in their phones.

  • is dessire z a good phone to ourchase or not ?/

  • Honeycomb is for tablets only, so no phone will get it.

  • Do you have this fone?? I have one. If you have one you would kno it doesnt need honeycomb, it needs updates so it will work as intended, its so full of software bugs and stability issues that it need a serious makeover. When Desire Z went from 2.2 to 2.3 it got worse, it was actually almost a good fone after it go the updated 2.2, and became crap after the 2.3 update. I have already replaced my Desire Z with a Xperia Pro, it doesnt have display as good as Desire Z but it works and is stable and hasle free, and no UI lag (HTC Sense is slow, and a new and improved Sense is way more important than new OS version) Everyone who want to buy this: Xperia Pro is cheaper and has better sound and speed and reliability, only he display is not quite a good but its good enough

  • Hi Friends , Do you think this fone will get HOneycomb Update or not ?

  • already ordered Xperia Pro to replace the Desire Z. I doubt i ever get a HTC again. Even if hey could fix all the software issues its a bad fone, and HTC is NOT gona fix the software issues, the users demanded gingerbread update and got it, nevermind that the thing has lotsa software bugs and network problems when using EDGE or GSM data, HTC users want newer OS and dont care if their fones work. Hardware flaws: Signal is strong but unstable (also for wifi), and keyboard went a bit bad despite of my fone never been in a pocket, and the loudspeaker, wow, its so terrible, it hurts to make a call on the speaker, really hurt, real pain. Battery cover is infamous for paint peeling off, it looks old and dirty after short time even if you are careful. The best thing about desire Z is the one everyone said was bad: the Z-hinge, its smooth and good to use and durable, a very good solution indeed. Screen is also very good but in low light u can see it has a tendency of too much red, its visible as a pink tint where it shud be white. However most ppl cannot see it even if they know about it, its really not much at all.

  • There is no front facing camera.

  • its 3g...that means it supports video calls...

  • yes

  • plz i want to know does it support video calls?

  • This handset is rootable. Look on the CyanogenMOD wiki for instructions and references.

  • amazing phone !!!

  • thanks for reply guys, but rooting is not an option, it will not give me true multitasking and i doubt it will be more stable also. The bottom line is that HTC sux and Desire Z sux more. It even has hardware failure already, sum keys on the keyboard has gone bad and need harder press. Really low quality. And the metal construction is a cause of unstable signal, cant match any Nokia N-series i have. Too many bad things not connected to the OS or software, even with MeeGo installd this would still be a bad phone.

  • I think I understand why you hate it. The thing is, HTC Sense really is a resource hog. It's ridiculous to have 512MB of RAM but only have like 80MB available at any given time. Sense is great, don't get me wrong, but HTC really need to work on optimizing its memory usage. As a result... Sense has got to go.. You've got to root.. Use vanilla Android and I think you'll be really surprised at what its capable of. Its probably at the very least, 2 to 3 times faster easily. And if you root you can clock the chipset to its native clock speeds (As the G2/DesireZ is underclocked to 800Mhz). The chipset that comes with the G2/DesireZ has a native max clock speed of 1.3Ghz which means safe "Overclock" (As its not really an overclock since that's its native speed). Trust me, the benefits of AOSP Android is absolutely worth it. Bottom line.. Root>Remove Sense>AOSP Android 2.2 Or 2.3.. You'll be flying in no time...

  • Buddy...just root...then CyanogenMod...then try to stop smiling at the blazing speed, and LOTS of free memory (no more browser tab closing)! But say buh-bye to that HTC Sense resource pig! HTC Sense is what makes your current experience suck!

  • can anybody tell me the battery life performance of desire Z??

  • plz guys help me,i want to buy a phone with big screen and qwerty..main requirements are good camera(atleast 5 MP),document editor, torch, radio, lots of typing and surfing.full flash support in browser.also which one is to be chosen as OS,symbian or android.also let me know if i can install jar,sis files in android without any hassles?i wanted to go for sony ericcson Xperia pro but as the realeased date is not yet know even after so long of its annuoncement,i dont want to wait for it anymore. can this phone fulfill my requirements?are the applications in android market free and can they all be installed irrespective of the android version?can this handset be updated over the air?what is the lowest indian market price of this handset?pls help me as soon as you can..

  • Once again: 1.Buy the Desire Z. 2.Do NOT upgrade it. Stay with Froyo 2.2. 3.With Froyo its easy to root and overclock it.Mine runs a year ago really FAST at 1.42 ghz without hanging or any other problem. 4.Buy a BIG sd card (32 gb) and put everything inside. This phone is absolutely the BEST way to go with games (great physical keybord),videos, music, surfing etc. I, just cant put my desire Z down!!

  • almost a year since i got mine, and it been a downwards experience from the start. I like the hinge still, its the best mechanism ever on a sideslider, but other than that i hate this fone, esp after upgrade to Android 2.3, more bugs and useless stuff, and multitasking is now even worse (like it wasnt bad already with 2.2!). My browser tabs are almost always closed if attempting multitasking, and me and the others i know here who have desire Z all have problems with it hanging, have to remove the battery to make it startup again. Up to many times a day. Im the last one to still have this fone, everyone else already sold or gave away theirs and surely none of us will trust HTC again. I realise that multitasking is a weak point of all androids but i suspect HTC has made it even worse to fix some performance issues, surely they can make the fone faster by always closing ur background apps. But i need multitasking! Miss my N900, and will soon get a Nokia N9 64GB with real Linux, + a SE Xperia Pro qwerty droid (The SE is so cheap anyway, same size screen as Desire Z, better resolution and cheaper, dont even consider Desire Z guys)

  • I have my Desire Z since 11-2010, and i am in love with it.I mostly use it for gaming, perfect with every emulator out there.Superb mp3 player, surfing is great, no need for a pc any more! No hinge or any other problems, some day maybe i also use it as a mobile phone, lol! The only thing missing is a dreamcast emulator. And gamecube. And 1 Tb sd card.My Rating 11/10!!! Now at the half of the price i paid for this marvel, dont think twice, BUY IT !!!!

  • hey guys m really confused !! shud i buy htc desirez or samsung galaxy s i9000 ???? plz help me out... m in a real trouble!!

  • The looseness of the hinge does not appeal to many people. At least for me, I like the fact that it is easy to slide the keyboard in and out. I used to have the Nokia N97 and I personally do not like the added resistence when opening and closing the keyboard. Also, I always have to brace the keyboard and screen to prevent it from snapping open and closed. It is a design decision to make the hinge loose and although some people like me like the loose hinge, other do not like it very much at all.

  • well the keyboard is definitely worthless to me, it was a big mistake buying the phone..and although the screen don't really move while I use the touch screen but its true that the build quality absolutely sucks, if you don't have the hinge issue, your lucky..cause the hinge is fucking loose and I haven't seen such crap for a phone with this kinda price tag and then talking about gorilla glass, ,it Does NOT have a gorilla glass, HTC confirmed it when I sent them a mail, just not worth buying this phone

  • I certainly haven't had these 3G or hinge problems with my unit. I also have no issues with typing on the keyboard. Every keyboard is different and it will take some getting used to. Every phone with a keyboard I have used from the N97, BlackBerry Tour to the Desire Z takes about a month to get use to with normal use. Even my Asus Eee Pad Transformer's keyboard dock took about a month to get used to as it is about 90% the size of a standard keyboard.

  • The build-quality is actually really bad, every phone from HTC have problems with keeping a truly stable 3g-connection, but Z also have the very loose hinge that makes the phone feel very cheap because even with the keyboard closed the screen/keyboard moves a little when using the touchscreen, and I do not think the screen have Gorilla-glass because it feels more like plastic than glass, and the keyboard is not very good because there is not enough space between the keys but the biggest problem is the metal frame/edge around the keyboard especially below the spacebar that I keep hitting every time i use the spacebar making it hard to know for sure if I have pressed the spacebar or if the metalframe below it stopped my finger before the key was pressed. And 2 days ago the screen just stopped responding to any touch att all. HTC also have a very bad customer service because they still have not even fixed the fatal ÅÄÖ bug, and when they are called they simply lie saying that the latest update did fix this bug even though it definetly did not. Z could have been so good, but unfortunatly it is made by HTC! HTC does not deserve their reputation for having "good" buildquality, reviewers are too easily fooled when they think that a metal-body automatically is the same as "good" buildquality! I can not recommend anyone to buy Z, especially not too the price/cost I see in stores in Sweden today where it actually cost more than Galaxy S2!

  • I've had the phone since January, and was pleased with it until about 2 months ago when for some reason, it started to randomly start the car mode, and turn ANY incoming or outgoing calls onto loudspeaker mode. A bit of a hastle if you ask me. I talked to HTC Customer Service, was told to flash the ROM, which I did, to no avail. I then looked online for a fix, and found that turning off the autoboot in the car mode. It seemed to fix it. Things were going fine until last week, when the phone randomly started to switch between headphones and hands-free (I was using regualy sony headphones, no hands-free) and when it would do this, it would call the last person on my call list and stop/start playing music. So, I figured I would take it into the customer service office to get it fixed. Was given the run around, told it would be two days, its been three, and when I called, was told there was no problem with the phone, but the were waiting to call me because they didn't have any free courier space. Still waiting to see if the problems are still there. If they continue, I will be switching to another phone.

  • Updated to Gingerbread OTA with no problems. Runs beautifully Vodafone UK

  • guys please advise- should i go for an htc desire z or should i go for the galaxy s i9003 (s-lcd)

  • you can use skype but this phone doesnt come with front camera so either you see the person on the other side of the call, or the other person will see you! (or you could use a mirror!) I used this phone for 1month now and I am quite happy with it, if the lack of front camera doesn't bother you that much its great choice.

  • Today the "GO keyboard" was updated again, and now, almost 1 year after Z was released, the fatal keyboard bug, ÅÄÖ and some other problems, is finally completly fixed, no thanks to HTC!

  • how to mark contacts and calendar events on it? i want to delete some and i don't now how....please someone help me!!!

  • depends whether you prefer physical keybord or not. but for me having a physical KB is a great +. especially if you are emailing or surfing on the internet

  • awesome Mobile phone.... i really like it....

  • I did never throw away the electronic garbage bag that I put my Z in, and now that SE experia pro soon is released I decided to play with my old Z. I have installed this custom rom forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042 and I have installed GO keyboard, free from Android Market, to fix the fatal bug with åäöÅÄÖ, and I use ADWLancher EX.

  • very excellent phone

  • Still on sale in Portugal, unlocked, around 300 - 350...best phone i´ve used so far! ;)

  • where did u buy this mobile? in which country?

  • From where to buy? How much?

  • bought HTC Desire Z a week ago. fully satisfied. best phone i have ever had.

  • desire z

  • I got this phone 10 months ago. I tried to use the touch screen keyboard for a while, but switched back to the physical keyboard and am still using the keyboard. I only use the on screen keyboard if I plan to type a word or no more than a sentence. Anything longer I always use the physical keyboard.

  • If I had to pick I would say Desire Z but try get Desire S

  • if you wanna buy this phone for the keyboard, then don't buy it cause after few months you'll use the touch input anyway...so I suggest you ppl to get Samsung galaxy S instead..similar price tag and a much much better hardware

  • Which one is the best?? HTC Desire or HTC Desire Z??? Plz tell me, im gonna buy 1 of them.

  • I also have the problem with s and g going directly to sve as draft and gmail respectively. The hardwre keyboard is now unusable. Only a hard reset (remove battery) solves this, and it reappears shortly.

  • I have bought the desire z 15 days ago and it switchoff it self. The phone is really slow compare to other 512 ram and 800mhz HTC phone and keyboard is not user friendly battery life is very much less overall the phone is not worth buying I have mailed to HTC about this matter and also the phone it self send error report for several crash. Changed it twice so please think before you buy this phone.

  • I have the Desire Z v2.2 I flashed it with Mexdroid Ghostchilli rom and have to say it is absolutely brilliant, Performance is excellent. I highly recommend this phone, only problem is I am now addicted to swype and i no longer use the slide out keyboard!

  • hey guys can anybody tell me how is the performance of hts desire z battery...?

  • hey guys can anybody tell me how is the performance of hts desire z battery...?

  • The HTC Desire Z is a great phone but... just watch link cuz i don't know how to explain this to you guys.. - part 1 - part 2

  • Maybe a link to that xda wiki? Visionary is not the only rooting that can brick Z! Rooting should be easy and not need a masters degree in computer science!

  • yes you can!

  • One of the main reasons I chose the Desire Z over the iPhone is for the physical keyboard. I also tried a demo model at a store and really liked it. After getting the Desire Z, I find that I really like the HTC's Sense UI. It includes a number of widgets not available in non-HTC phones. It's good to shop around and try a number of devices to see what you like. The Desire Z has been out for almost a year, so there may not be any demos of the Desire Z around. At least where I live, most stores only have working demos of the more recent, featured models of phones.

  • This mobile has qwerty keyboard ... so if i want to type on screen sometimes , not on keyboard ... can I ??? plz answer plz ...

  • Hey Stuntman Sooo many thanks for the brilliant advice regarding my initial questions- I get the feeling that I should shop around and also look at other models- I was opting between the Iphone, BB and HTC- friends advise me to go for the HTC as its just built better and is a rival to the Iphone... Seems like Ill have to do some more homework but the advise is very much appreciated! Cheers

  • The Desire Z is a good phone. If you want a phone with a keyboard slider, the Desire Z and the Merge are you only options. The Merge is a CDMA and GSM phone with a slightly different slider mechanism. I don't know too much about the Merge as it hasn't been heavily marketed. The Status is a newer phone, but with a smaller screen. It's half screen half keyboard. The screen is a lower resolution as well. The Desire Z has been out since last October in some places, so you will be getting a phone that is almost a year old. The Gingerbread update for the Desire Z is available now, so at least the OS is up to date. There are phones from other manufacturers that are more recent. The Motorola Droid 3 (as it is called in the US) is the latest phone with a keyboard slider out right now. It has a faster processor, larger and higher resolution screen and bigger keyboard. The Sony Ericsson is also another keyboard slider phone.

  • As a first time buyer of the HTC- I want a HTC that has all the standard features- has a key pad as well as Touch, has all the applications and looks good- which one would u guys recommnd- budget no issue with a contract? Ive been told HTC Desire but what do u all think? Much appreciated.

  • i Think' desireZ.......it's much better..........

  • chacha is more light, the screen is smaller than desire z. but i found CHACHA which is more faster. i prefer chacha. By CNDIGIT.COM

  • Can anyone please advice b/w desire z and chacha? Which choice is better?

  • People, the battery is getting so much better with thr 2.3 android. it is far beyond better and the standby works better. gr8 fone.

  • finally 2.3 is available!!! :D

  • my i have forgotten my Google account password

  • Actually, its not that hard to root, even with the locked bootloader. The only reason many people brick their Desire Z is when they use the Visionary method... on XDA wiki it has the new way to root the phone.. there's still a chance of rooting but not as high risk as the visionary way.

  • Hi, after researching and looking at all the phones out there, I would like to get a Desire Z. However, the only thing holding me back is that it seems very hard to get hold of in the uk. Is it end of life, or will it be coming back with the new software update. If it's about to be imminently replaced by HTC, what are they going to replace it with . . . I'm sure I'll find a source tp buy from; but if HTC are withdrawing it I'm concerned why?

  • Exactly how did you root your Z, many trying have completely bricked their Z because it is one of the hardest Androids to root because of HTC locked bootloader?

  • If u root ur phone and put a install a diffrent ROM it will boost ur Adio quality immense.

  • "ADWLauncher EX" from the Market have landscape homescreen on any Android!

  • I'm having same issue with the qwerty keyboard. S goes to Text and g goes to gmail and b goes back on internet. Any fixes?

  • is the camera good? is it better than samsung phones?

  • Yes

  • Yes mate it goes support flash

  • yes it does support flash, and about music quality...its not suitable as a music phone but its not made for music so its obvious but I would say the sound quality is really good I owned Nokia 5730,5800,5630,5320,5220 and thou I agree I would prefer any of the above phone for music but the quality ain't worse on HTC but the volume is lil low, I personally use skullcandy titan headphones so I don't find the loudness a problem so just get yourself a good quality headphone, regarding the screen sensitivity ..well I use the phone for few months now and I've faced no such problem, clean your screen and check for any improvement...better check the internet how capacitive touch works and you would know it shouldn't deteriorate with time, just try clean your dirty screen and about the battery..yes its true the battery sucks but it improves with gingerbread upgrade but I still have to charge the battery every day, anyway anyone with a decent budget like 500usd shouldn't buy this phone, there are better options like the nexus S

  • does it support adobe flash?

  • Hi, I got HTC Desire Z two weeks back. I am quite satisfied with its performance. But it is not suitable as a music phone. I found its speaker sound average while playing music. Sound quality is OK but its volume is not high enough. I used headphones but even than sound volume is not too high.

  • Don't have to wait, It's smooth. Only one thing I've noticed is that screen isn't responsive as it was before.

  • I recently change my SE W995 to HTC Desire Z and from audio quality point of view I can only say "go for it" - you'll be happy with overall music quality :-)

  • it has a low battery that u can charge everyday,it become hot be aware

  • a week ago i buy that phone from raya mkrm abed then i found that u have 2 charge everyday the battery stay one day only then u have 2 recharge 2- it become so hot so i have 2 get it 2 syana,is that makol,u other than that it is a great mob but i didnt advice anyone 2 buy it if he know it well, those r the 2 diadvantges in that mob, i wish i can help, from my exprience, this is the 2nd week 4 me

  • I'm music addicted. I'd like to get an idea about Desire Z's music quality. Currently I own a SE W700i & a Samsung F480i. I must say SE Walkman has an edge over Samsung in music quality, player function etc. How about Desire Z?

  • Yeah, that's due to too many apps in the background in memory. I sort that out by killing all the apps I don't need through the task manager every now and then. It'll still happen when you use a memory-intensive app, though.

  • Sir/s, i would like to know if DZ has the following functionalities: 1. exchange sync of email, calendar and contacts. 2. when you download exchange email, is it in html format? 3. can DZ record 2 way voice call? (not via speakerphone)

  • I find that there is a delay in loading up the home screen when switching my home screen between portrait and landscape. The Desire Z switches the home screen to landscape when the keyboard is out. If I go to a messaging app, open my keyboard and type a message and then go back to my home screen while the keyboard is still out, it takes several seconds to load the home screen in landscape. If I send my message, close the keyboard and then go to my home screen, there is no delay. Other phones do not seem to have a landscape home screen. At least with the Desire Z, I haven't been able to swith my home screen to landscape without opening the keyboard. Other phones do not have a keyboard, so I suspect they do not have a landscape home screen.

  • Do you always have a reloading homescreen after using the internet app or the htc mail app. Its bothering to always wait for the homescreen reloading. They said this is common due to htc sense. I just thought this was fixed by gingerbread but its not

  • settings/ about phone/ software update

  • that's why you've got ''tell htc'' function. Just updated mine and everything is ok.

  • Desire z comes in two colours, what is the darker one called? plz help. thanks.

  • It's Maybe A Fault With The Micro SD Card! The Card May Be Fault, Which Won't Allow You To Complete The Process! Try Using Another Memory Card, Or Try Downloading the Software Again . . .

  • Try Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage Applications And Click On The 'All' Tab! Have A Scroll And See If You Can Find The Apps You Want To Unistall! If That Doesn't Work, Try Going To Your Main App Menu, Touch The Menu Hardware Button And Select Remove App! If It's Still Giving You A Hard Time, Try To Uninstall It Through Marketplace! I Had A Similar Problem With Skype!

  • Menu - Settings - (Scroll Down To 'About Phone') - System Software Updates - Then Click 'Check Now'! If There Is An Update, Then It'll Ask You To Update!

  • How do & from where I should download the gingerbread for desire z.....some one pls help

  • This update is still too buggy. I think htc will release another update to address these issues

  • Am able to update to gingerbread. Th improvements are apparently in the sms function and dropdown notification. One bug is it keeps forcing to close picasa.htc its very annoying i want to uninstall that app but cant see it in the list of apps. Whats your observation on this new update mate :)

  • Haha after several attempts i was able to download and install the gingerbread update. i just disabled my security code and everything went smoothly :)

  • I need help. I am trying to update to Gingerbread today but it keep on saying the file was corrupted. I already tried several times. I'm in the Philippines and my carrier is Globe..

  • Any luck with the update? Are we the only one having this corrupted file problem. I want totake my phone to htc if this problem will still persist

  • same here, im currently in malaysia and the OTA update, which i downloaded 3x, keeps on having the file corrupted error during validation.. still looking for a fix, or at least know which is the problem.. anyway, i bought my DZ in megamall.... hope someone can enlighten us, specially we waited for a long time for this update, and now this problem..

  • because the price is at half...

  • I was able to download the 107MB update but during validation the always say "the downloaded file is corrupted do you wish to download the update again". I downloaded the file three times already but that note always apprear. I also tried to insert a different memory card because the first memory card might be corrupted or faulty, yet same corrupted files appreared. Anyone here who encountered the same? And what should i do to fix this..

  • The feature I like Desire Z the most is the physical keyboard! However, there are much better phones out there, e.g. Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation, Droid 3 and HTC Evo 3D. Why consider a single core phone when there are dual core phones? Hope this helps

  • Anyone here from the Philippines who were able to upgrade to gingerbread. Been waiting everyday for the update to appear in my phone since htc announced that update was already available but until now i have not received the notification of the update. My phone always states that "theres no available update for my phone". Come on htc i been waiting long enough

  • First of all, why are you considering getting the Desire Z instead of keeping your existing phone? Also, what model is your existing phone? Why are you unsatisfied with your existing phone? What is it about the Desire Z that is making you considering buying it instead of keeping your existing phone? You haven't given us enough information to give you a good answer. I can say it is worth buying for me, but I was using a Nokia N97 before.

  • most latest one, which model is that ? lol

  • Having problems with power switch. I actually have to take out the battery and reboot to get it going again. Any else havint this difficulty?

  • thanks hay for the baseband version.

  • Dear All HTC Desire Z user , please for God sac give a very honest & truthful answer.Cos i am planinig to buy one very shortly. Now question is it worth buying. Currently using Sony Ericsson most latest one. All of your advices will be noted with lots of high regards. Thanks

  • gingerbread :) no issues

  • I have a htc desire z. In 2 days my downloaded nearly 9 gig. has anyone had the same problem?

  • Overall its a great handset, except battery...otherwise its very fast, and i wouldnt complain on hinge at all; it works perfectly fine

  • I don't have any issues with the keyboard or hinge. The hinge is designed with a loose spring tension to enable easy opening and closing. Some people prefer a stronger tension on the spring. The hinge mechanism is also unique in that the screen lifts up first and then swings around back down instead of sliding up.

  • Really wanted to buy an android phone with qwerty slider and this was perfect but alas!!! the HTC had stop the model, Can anyone tel me wher i can? Or wher's the stock?

  • First the hinge, the person has to deside is it good for him because for me it is ok, i'm not texting in bed with phone over my head, and i like that i can slide out qwerty easily. processor is really really god, even not overclocked, and it can be overclocked to 1,9 ghz easily with no problems. Only bad thing for me is battery because it has pretty small capacity, but still it is smartphone and now smartphones don't have long lasting batteries

  • hi..im planning to buy desire z but a little confused about the qwerty keyboard..is there any problem with the hinge??is it worth buying, how abt da processor n speed..

  • With the latest system update my qwerty keyboard started to act weird. When typing letter s it saves the text as draft and typing g i get thrown to my gmail. What's up? I would want to ise my keyboard for writing, not for jumping around different apps

  • Sliding of HTC Desire Z is Very Bad, beak it easy, the battery so weak when take any internet application.

  • I don't have an issue with the screen durability either. One time it fell off my car mount right onto my gear shift, screen side first and not a scratch. I'm happy to hear that Gingerbread improves the battery life. I haven't received my update yet. The Canadian carriers tend to delay things a bit. Hopefully, I won't have to wait too much longer.

  • Have this phone since January. I loved it but the baterry was not that good, by having some internet and 3G usage it would last no longer than 8~10 hours. The hinge didn't have any problems so far, but after 3 months I started having problems with the hardware keyboard keys, I have to press some of them harder or they'll not work. Updated to Gingerbread using the official update and now the battery makes me smile :) it lasts almost 2 days of heavy usage. Not to mention the phone became faster! I see that some users are saying that this phone doesn't have a Gorilla Glass. Well having it or not, the screen never scratched, not even after I dropped it from my bed D: so at least for me it's a good phone and I won't be replacing it for a while.

  • I suppose you mean the Baseband version right? Mine is a Desire Z from Italia, the Baseband version after update is 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M

  • hi all Gingerbread users. Please let us know the radio version. i mean the baseband version. Go to settings->about phone->software-> you should be able to find the baseband version. something like 12.28b.60... or a higher number 12.52..... please share it. It will be a great help for me to chose a radio version to flash as i am rooted.

  • Thanks for the info about the lack of gorilla glass. I was wondering about that too as the screen surface seems to feel more like plastic than anything else. The hinge is rather unpopular as most people expect the spring to be tight enough to prevent gravity from making it swing open and closed. It also gives the impression that it is fragile. The other thing about the hinge is that its uniqueness throws people off. I showed it to my cousin recently and he tried to open it as if it is a conventional slider. He was having difficulty when I notice that he was trying to slide it open instead of flipping the screen up. I tend to compare the Z hinge to the cantilever hinge on the N97. There are aspect of both that I do and do not like. Both offer a different mechanism for a keyboard slider. The cantilever hinge has a tighter spring and tilts the screen, but is harder to open and close and causes the screen to snap into place. The Z hinge is looser and allows for easier opening and closing. The cantilever hinge allows the user to slide the screen open exactly like a convention slider. The Z hinge requires the user to open it by lifting the screen instead of sliding.

  • obviously you can't run sis or jar files on an android device, and apps in the market can be free or paid, depending on what app you want to install...the camera on this device ain't impressive, battery life ain't impressive either anyway but it does come with a document editor out of the box and since it runs the latest android you won't face problem installing any apps but I would suggest you not to buy this phone unless you're going to play with the android OS,its really powerful if you know to use it ..the second option is getting a symbian powered Nokia device ..lol I've used so many symbian phones and guess what symbian didn't change much for ages so buy the symbian garbage if you want a phone from the PAST

  • its the official upgrade downloaded over the air, but its of no use, I'm having issues with HTC sense after the upgrade it crashed two times...the only positives are the battery life improvement and the obvious gingerbread allows better graphics for some game ..as in some games only run on gingerbread

  • since I've been using this phone for a while,I had a doubt about the gorilla glass screen so I sent mail to HTC for confirmation and in reply they said the phone does not come with a gorilla glass I repeat it does NOT come with a gorilla glass, and many users are having issues with loose hinge mechanism,HTC confirmed the phone is made in such way intentionally ...even I don't like the hinge mechanism it seems very fragile

  • Desire z is already out of stock in india and there has been no news from HTC about new stock availability which has led many suppliers to believe that HTC have discontinued Desire Z in india. which is such a shame as it was launched this march only. Really wanted to buy an android phone with qwerty slider and this was perfect but alas!!!

  • Recovery is still s-on and the fatal bug/problem with ÅÄÖ is not fixed, now this z-crap is finally dumped in the garbage bag!

  • Just bought it, battery was droppin low very quick in 2.2.2, since I updated the phone yesterday to 2.3.3, from a full charge, I played yesterday 2h 3D games, also downloaded APNdroid to stop 3Gdata connection, this morning the phone was at 65% of charge :D

  • desire or desire z which is better?? do they have video calling feature??

  • Thanks deo.. One last question, does a full charge can long last for a day with just surfing the net? Or can i wwatx a movie or two, in galaxy mina i can only watch 1 movie. Thats why im asking about the battery life.. Can someone enliguten me here please... Tia

  • hi,m using this fone since 4 months and found battery is quite good.you need not to worry for full day of havy use.

  • plz guys help me,i want to buy a phone with big screen and qwerty..main requirements are good camera, document editor, lots of typing and surfing.full flash support in browser.also which one is to be chosen as OS,symbian or android.also let me know if i can install jar,sis files in android without any hassles?can HTC desire Z fulfill my requirements?are the applications in android market free and can they all be installed irrespective of the android version?can this handset be updated over the air?what is the lowest indian market price of this handset?pls help me as soon as you can..

  • Can someone tell.me.about.its battery life. About how long it can.be.use.in full charge and how.long it is.need to charge.. Pls

  • @Johan: By the way, can you tell me where did you downloaded it?is it custom rom or official rom?

  • Updated to 2.3.3. My comment on news article: So, i updated my phone an here are some benchmarks: #Benchmark name, Android 2.2, Android 2.3, Increase Benchmark Pi, 1307, 1409, +7% Fps2D, 57.5, 57.5, 0% Linpack for Android (single thread), 33.54183, 33.85933, +0.95% Linpack for Android (multi thread), 28.848, 29,143166, +1% Neocore, 57.63, 57.63, 0% Quadrant Standard, 1512.66, 1350.33, -10,7% First thing i like in new android is tabbed notification area. With Quick Settings tab i can manage my connections very fast and i don't need a widget anymore on my screen to manage these connections. For some reason HTC Picasa Web Albums process is crashing constantly, i mean all the time. I force close it and after a while it crashes again. About tests - all these test results are average of 6 runs and done after restart of system. Most of tests show a small increase of score but Quadrant somehow shows decrease of score. I'm not sure why. On android 2.2, Quadrant was above Nexus One and I was very happy about it, but on 2.3.3, it's about the same. I am in Estonia and I got update number 242.405.2, not the same as mentioned in this article. This is the new update, there wasn't any yesterday. One thing more about notification area Quick Settings. I had already one problem with connection to mobile data. I checked it and it started to connect to but something went wrong i guess and it said "Turning on..." and nothing happened. Then I tried to uncheck it and check it again to try again, but it wouldn't uncheck it. I had to use a widget to disconnect and connect again. So, overall, I expected a lot more from this update and looks like HTC needs to do some more works on (atleast) that version. I really hope that atleast battery life gets a little bit better.

  • Guys update is arrived in holland so update friends!!!!! Greetz Dennis htc ,

  • It is very easy to completely brick Z when trying to root, it is definetly NOT riskfree!

  • Please, let us know how well it works. What has improved? What can be better?

  • Yes! the official gingerbread update for HTC desire Z is now available, I just downloaded it

  • Official 2.3 android for desire z available. I am from Lithuania.

  • in your opinion which is the best ROM to available for desire z?

  • Yes, rooting and flashing new roms is pretty much risk free, just make sure u read first, go to xda developers site. Also overclocking allows you to underclock when the screen is off, improving battery life. The batterry lasts lomger now than the stock rom. Dont be worried about doing it as u wont regret it..

  • Yes, rooting it is very worth it and has very little to no risk. Just go to cyanogenmod forums and check it out. super fast, smooth and overclocks to 1.5GHz :) so many more possibilities.

  • sure u can root it! to do that u have to visit XDA developers forum. search it there.. even though i didn't root my desire z and waiting for the official 2.3 update! the risk of losing my phone kept me away from rooting it :(

  • 1700mhz!!!! woow thats alot! how is ur battery? is it easy to install that rom?

  • how you update the OS?

  • Great phone, had it for 6 months, now running gingerbread with sense 3.0 (unity rom), with the processor overclocked to 1700mhz! super fast, and very stable. still the best phone on the market IMO.

  • Very good phone, used it for 2 weeks, performance is outstanding, currently I have NOVA,Backstab, and Order and Chaos, gaming on this phone is super fast, worth the money, and the Internet supports adobe flash player so you can surf the web like on a desktop,to all who is still thinking twice about this phone, get it, I could have get the sensation, but I'd rather go with this one.

  • Is this a good phone for a 12 year old? Because I'm finding a phone that is quick in surfing the web and has good quality for music, pictures and videos.

  • Get the Desire Z. Its a lot better and I think it can upgrade to 2.3.

  • hi ... please i am going to buy htc desire z but i want to know if i can root it and upgrade it to 2.3 and how to do that.. please try to answer me ..thank you

  • hi ... please i am going to buy htc desire z but i want to know if i can root it and upgrade it to 2.3 and how to do that.. please try to answer me ..thank you

  • take the desire Z ,,,,,, it worth your money a lot ,,,, you may thank me for this

  • anyone has any idea whether desire z is upgrading to ginger??????

  • it is a brilliant phone . very practical and fast

  • i have a htc desire and had it stolen they have offered me desire z Should i wait 7 days for the Desire or take the Desire Z

  • use for two days. very satisfy with the performance and the speed. it is a great phone ofcourse with the sharp screen. like the heavy feel of the phone just remind do not install talkbox messenger, it suck ur batt damn fast. conclusion, very nice phone to own, i like hTC widget. well done hTC.

  • I'm not familiar with the bugs with the Xperia phones. Can you list specifically what those bugs are? Then I can tell you if I have encountered them on my Desire Z.

  • Go for it dude,u will never regret it.the best qwerty phone out there no doubt.super fast.I am using mine to reply your post lol.

  • Great phone. Works like a charm, thought my first Desire Z broke down after 1 day of normal use. The screen screwed up the contrast and failed to produce colors. I returned it and got a new one. This 2nd Desire Z is working correctly, no problems at all. I rooted it and installed Android 2.3.4-rom, so the phone is MUCH faster than before. QWERTY is great, very easy to type and the weight makes the phone feel very.. Well-built. I haven't tested the battery actually, but I assume it'll last longer than a day, which is enough for me. Conclusion; Great phone with nice features - very well-built too. Camera is pretty ok (in my opinion). Android works fast, but it's even faster if you root the phone and change the rom to another. Must-have, if you ask me. I guess I'll never have a phone without QWERTY again.

  • Go for it dude,u will never regret it.the best qwerty phone out there no doubt.super fast.I am using mine to reply your post lol.

  • Is there anyone who can tell me does this phone has bugs as Xperia X2 has ? Thanks for the answer! :)

  • htc thunderbold

  • whats the price??

  • If you are texting while holding the phone above you, you need to prop the screen open. I give you that. No other time do I need to do that. I haven't heard of reports of the hinge breaking any more easily than other slider keyboards. I've dropped mine a few times and it hasn't broken on me. I would suspect that any phone dropped in an ideal angle would increase the chance of the slider mechanism breaking however it is designed. I don't like that raised edge around the keyboard either. It can get in the way of even the top row of keys as well.

  • my phone is HTC Desire Z when it turns off n i turn it bk on my phone keep getting a txted off non numbeer but trayangle shape with a @ singe next to it dose any one know what this means ??

  • I proudly own this phone,i've been caressing it each day for half a year now.the keyboard is not even a bit of a problem.everything is amazing about this phone.lightening fast in every respect, web browsing is just smooth.fingures and toes crossed waiting for gingerbread, hey guys get power amp and you will carrying some woofers in your ears.gosh i wonder why the iphone4 owners still keep their phones out of their pockets when we've got droids like this around.

  • They hold it that way only to be able to easily on video show how very loose the hinge is! And holding only the keyboard when texting is not unusual at all, but having to force the screen in place while texting is unusal, and no other phone with a slide-out keyboard have any problems with the keyboard opening or closing by only the force of gravity. If you drop the phone the loose hinge could easily open and if it falls in an angle then the hinge could actually break. I think the frame/edge below the spacebar is too high and too close because I hit it everytime I use the spacebar.

  • Notice how they hold the phone in an abnormal way. I've never held my phone that way whether it's my Desire Z, N97 or BlackBerry Tour.

  • If you are from Sweden then the keyboard is completely useless, HTC say they will "fix" the problem with ÅÄÖ but they have said this from day one almost 6 months ago so I do not belive them, and it is hard to fix this problem by myself because the bootloader is locked and Z is really hard and risky to root and I do not know if the latest update is rootable at all.

  • Loose hinge!

  • I really do love this phone. It's classy but not too delicate. I love the HTC sense idea and have used it in the past, personalisation is very easy and there is many wallpapers to choose from to suit your taste :)

  • I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "user friendly". I've used keyboards from 3 different phones in the past year: the Desire Z, Nokia N97 and BlackBerry Tour. All of these keyboards are different and all took me some time to get used to it. The main differences are the layout of the keysand the tactile feel of the keys when you press them. The DZ's keyboard layout is the best of the three. With 4 rows and with each key spaced out wide, it makes it easy to reach each character. Also, many of the commonly used punctuation marks have their own key without needing to press the shift or symbol key to access. The N97 has 3 rows and fewer keys and only the period has its own key. The BB has keys that are very close together and I find I can easily accidentally press the next key instead of the one I want to press. The Desire Z's keys are raised. You can easily feel where each key begins and ends. The keys however need more pressure to register a press than the other two phones. I find that this aspect makes it a little harder for me to type. The BB has the same feel. You need to press the key hard. The N97 does not require very much pressure to register a key press. I like the feel of each key on the N97 more than the other two phones. If I could design my own keyboard, it would have the layout of the Desire Z with the tactile feel of the N97. I had a little difficulty with the DZ keyboard after using the N97 for several months. It took me a few weeks to get used to a change in keyboard. I am comfortable typing on the keyboard now. The BB keyboard also took me a while to get use to. I don't use my BB much for data entry, so it took me a lot longer to learn the keyboard. I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for the response. Just one more question how user friendly is the physical qwerty keyboard? This is one of the reasons I want this. I currently have a nexus one but miss a proper qwerty keyboard and this is the closest phone I have seen to the nexus

  • Yep, seen this problem. Pull the battery, replace, restart. Job done.

  • The tension of the spring on the hinge is not very strong. The idea is that it makes opening and closing the keyboard easier. You don't need to use much force to open and close it. There is enough tension on the spring to keep it opened or closed in some positions. Some people find that it opens and closes too easily. I personally have no issues with the hinge. The way I pick it up and use it, the keyboard generally stays opened or closed when I want to. The loose spring will cause the keyboard to close if you lie on your back and hold the phone above your head with the keyboard open. In this position, gravity will case the screen to come down over the keyboard. If I use the phone and keyboard in this position, I just prop the screen up with a finger. Most of the time, I am sitting down or standing and looking down at my phone. In this case, the keyboard stays open without any issues. The complaints I have seen regarding this hinge comes from people who like to hold the phone from only the screen half. I find this unusual as the thickness of the phone makes me normally grip both halves of the phone. There were some videos of people demonstrating the loose spring by gripping only the screen or keyboard half of the phone and the other half droops down due to gravity. I bought the phone in spite of these videos because I find that this is a very unusual way to hold any phone. Hope this answers your question.

  • Just how bad is the hinge on this? That is the only thing putting me off getting one

  • I've had this phone since November and I have no issues with the hinge at all. I do use the physical keyboard often, so I open and close the keyboard every day multiple times. The weight of the phone is noticeable compared to the other phones I have used. It's not uncomfortable to hold nor does it causes any issues while using it. It doesn't bother me. It's just the first thing you notice when you pick up the phone.

  • How does the keyboard hinges hold up over time? Does anyone find the weight of the phone to be a nuisance?

  • im having a hard time choosing which phone i should get: htc desire z, htc desire s, htc desire hd, htc sensation, or iphone4.. please help! thanks!

  • im having a hard time choosing which phone i should get: htc desire, htc desire z, htc hd, htc sensation, or iphone4.. please help! thanks!

  • Got it, and love it. To help with battery life: 1) Turn off automatic screen brightness - I find 25% usable, and helps tremendously with life. 2) Turn off wifi and internet when not in use - the same with GPS. 3) Under settings, under accounts and synch disable anything you don't need to update regularly. 4) Don't use a live wallpaper - set a bitmap as your background (I found a nice carbon background, and custom drew an android character on top - niiiice :D) 5) Use a task manager to keep your phone optimised - I personally use the free version of Android Booster by Netqin - but there are plenty out there. 6) Back to screen settings - set your timeout to a minute. If you're not using it, why have it lit up like a christmas tree burning battery? My next purchases for the phone are going to be a 32Gb card, and an extended battery from a third-party company. When I do festivals there are very few safe recharge points for the crew to leave phones... Incidentally - I can recommend vplayer from the market, plays pretty much anything including m4u movie files

  • do nimbuzz work in this??? please let me know coz i liked this cell and want to buy it...

  • I hope HTC upgrade directly to 2.3.4 because 2.3.3 have problems with batterydrain on most, if not all, Androids. HTC definetly have to fix the fatal problem with ÅÄÖ, and I actually have problems with all letters when I use QuickOffice Pro that I bought from the market, and I always use on my S and S2, and is much better than the limited version that came with the phone. The camera on Z is actually the best I have used for taking close-up pictures of documents... the autofocus take very good pictures even when held less than 10 centimeters from the objekt/document, none of S or S2 is this good for really close-up pictures.

  • Grt phone, Using this for 4 months now. But, yes , htcsense.com, doesn't seem to locate my phone. an 8/10. Battery goes down a little faster, so lookout of some aftermarket, More powered batteries.

  • Yes my phone has just done the same a few days ago, very annoyed. Thank goodness that htc sense back ups my numbers and texts.

  • Does it enable skype calling? :S

  • Anyone experiencing difficulties with the Z Hinge keyboard mechanism? Just asking

  • good phone

  • Got it for over 6 months now, and last night my screen just stopped, didnt do anything my phone was just laying on my desk. I pressed to button to unlock it, and the screen had some weird white lines moving through it. It goes on, but it the screen does not show anything... Anyone had the same problem?

  • I have been using this phone for 4 months now. The only drawbacks i find is this: 1. The www.htcsense.com does not seems to be able to locate my phone even with phone finder on (India) 2. There default setting does not play mpg file. Need a separate app for that!

  • This phone is by far the best I have had, however there are some problems using the phone while it is charging..

  • The keyboard is bigger than my Nokia N97. The keys are a stiffer than the N97, so it took me a few weeks to get used to it. Only HTC can answer the question about why they keep changing designs of their keyboard retracting mechanism.

  • I had a few issues with calls the first couple of weeks. Several times the voice was just really garbled. A couple of times, the call rang and then went to voice mail. After the first few weeks, I had one incident of garbled voice and that's it. Everything else worked fine. I never had any issues with signal strength. Only times when I notice I lose signal was in an underground parking area or underground level of a mall which is to be expected.

  • I was told that it had front and back camera but found out afterward that it didn't. Disappointing but I'd never take a pic of myself anyway! I finally got the phone to work, it just took a couple of days and all of a sudden, it was a phone! (re my earlier complaint).

  • 3g work ? no front camera, hopw you going to make a 3g call ?

  • Undecided about this phone. Keyboard seems a little small. Has anyone else found this to be the case? Also why didn't htc use the same hinge design as either the merge, the 7 pro or even the G1?

  • I can get the phone to do anything BUT make a phone call! The bars are never full. It turns off the call in mid dial most of the time. Have to get it looked at. Has anyone else had this problem? Otherwise, I adore it! Just wish it was a phone!!!

  • I had my phone shut off by itself a few times in the first two months. After that, it's been working fine. I don't know what caused, it but it hasn't happened since December. I do notice that if I open the keyboard in the home screen, the home screen takes a long time to switch to landscape mode and vice versa. I've installed a lot of apps and widgets over the time I had it. Not sure if this is the reason. There are moments of slowness, but it doesn't happen very often for me. Most of the time, it is quite smooth. My father-in-law has an iPhone and I find that scrolling does seem smoother on the iPhone than on the Desire Z. The iPhone seems to have a faster frame rate. Most of the time, this isn't an issue as I would scroll then stop and read. I generally don't have any major issues with the Desire Z. It does what I need to do and does it very well most of the time. The occasional slow down for a few seconds doesn't bother me much.

  • awesome phone.root it! got mine running at 1.2ghz but i bump it up to 1.5ghz when running playstation/n64 emulators. achieved quadrant of 2850 running cm7+sony play rom.just awesome. totally not bothered by new galaxy s 2 or htc sensation because of this.buy it, root it, flaunt it!

  • Your choice of the C7 between the desire z and samsung s2 is really the odd one out. The nokia C7 is not that much of a phone in features and quality compared to the desire z. My advise to you is to think what you are going to use the phone for, just calling and music may be surf the internet, then C7 is what suits you. If you are concerned with video and screen quality then the s2 is your need. And if the usage is for heavy texting, reading, surfing, editing documents and a physical qwerty then the Z is your desire as mine it is. Check your needs and have a look on the gsmarena's specifications to make up your mind. Hope you the best.

  • I have the same issue with the phone slowing down. It occurred after 1month of using it. Then after using the apps and the internet browser once i tap the Home capacitive button it will freeze and a rotating circle will show and txt "reloading" appears. This frustrates me so much because i need speedy phone to accomplish everything in a shortest possible time. I came from iPhone and the reason i switched to desire Z is iys ability to multitask but seems this phone could not cope with the multitasking feature of Android. I learned that by removing the micro SD the phone speed improved a lot and no more freezing. But the internal memory is only limited to 1.5gb so this will eventually be filled up by my apps and other files, and you can not use camera function without the SD card. There are apps too that wont work without SD such as Dropbox and Evernote apps that i used a lot to pull all my data on the cloud. Overall though im missing the buttery smooth speed of iPhone i will not come back to iphone. I already love the keyboard of the desire Z and I already accepted the fact the Apple wont be making an iPhone with a Physical keyboard on it. Im hoping HTC can make another phone with the specification of htc sensation with a keyboard of desire Z to improve the speed performance of this phone. P.S. Do all android phones have a laggy UI compared to iPhone regardless whether its using a single core or dual core processor. Hope you can share your experiences on this

  • i absolutely love this phone and it is by far the best i have owned. my sister, brother in law and cousin have all switched to the desire z after tinkering with mine. i have only three issues.. it seems to slow down/get stuck when text message threads get long. especially when the thread includes multimedia msgs. phone has been slowing down for no reason. especially after a recent update. no i do not have any apps synching or anything. this is with all data exchanges turned of. i mostly use the phone for simple calls n texts. i only turn on the wifi and other synching stuff when i need it. i even turn off all unnecessary apps running in background. and the phone still stays sticky sometimes.. but battery life is pretty good this way.. up to two/three days atmost. lastly.... and this is a BIG one... the phone just turns off for no reason at all. as someone else mentioned earlier, only after taking the battery out and putting it back does it come back on. i have no idea what causes this. no the battery isnt dead. this happens very occasionally... like once in 6 to 8 weeks. butttt i have a hardcase on which is a bitch to remove so having to pop out the battery can be a major pain in the rear end. especially when im on the road... anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?

  • does is it have a document viewer or editor? the specs dont mention anything?

  • the buttons of qwerty are right next to eachother... the u is at the other end...

  • I bought this phone a month ago , its my first smart phone really really great android is something lika a dream If you want to buy a smart phone for the first time don't think Desire Z

  • I read your post on the E7 forum. I was considering the E7 and Desire Z and decided to go with the Desire Z. I am very happy with my decision. I was an N97 user before, too. Any reason why you decide to possibly go with the iPhone instead of the Desire Z?

  • Not sure my post will be made live - sent 5 mins ago. I meant to post it on E7 feedback! I was checking desire Z as anotehr option and ended up posting my E7 feedback. Apologies.

  • The weight is noticeable at first, but you get used to it.

  • Almost a month since i get my desire z. Itsa great phone so far no problems. I am using it without a screen protector. The battery is ok as a smartphone. Could been better though. The only down side for me is the heavy wieght but i guess its gaves the phone a premuim expansive feel. All in all am happy with it.

  • I love everything about this phone, except the battery life. 430 hours standby is a joke. You'd probably get 6 or 7 hours out of it tops if you don't use it at all. But I don't mind. Bought an extended battery, two 1500 mAh batteries and four different types of chargers, so I just charge it as often as possible. Can't be good for the battery, but there's no choice, really. Other than that, it's a fantastic phone.

  • Official Gingerbread update for HTC Desire Z users coming up before end of June.

  • Just got my brand new Desire Z...Its legen(wait for it)dary...The Z hinge might be a problem for some..though it looks flimsy it is quite strong but just loose....HTC needs to fix dat. Otherwise the phone is awesome, camera is great, Audio output bit low though. Applications work like a dream. The best part is the UI HTCSense....Best of the lot..much better than Nokia N8....loveeeeeeee it

  • Hilarious!

  • The same way you misspelt you as U and nobody asked you because we understood your meaning. This is cellphone, not English language forum.

  • the battery life suck

  • I used to use a Nokia N97. I loved the feel of the keyboard on that phone. The Desire Z's keyboard keys have a stiffer feel than the N97 keyboard. Also, the Desire Z's keys are raised and the N97's keys are flush with surface of the area around the keys. I personally like the keys flush rather than raised. I find that this in addition to the keys not being as stiff makes it a little easier for me to type on the N97 than on the Desire Z. The E7's keyboard appears to be very similar to the N97's. I haven't actually tried the E7 yet, but all indications is that I would probably like the E7 keyboard more than the Desire Z's. As for the hinge, I prefer the Z hinge of the Desire Z than the N97 hinge. I find the N97 hinge makes the keyboard more difficult to open and close. The Desire Z hinge is looser, so opening and closing it is easier. The E7 hinge appear to have a similar mechanism. There appears to be a strong spring action when opening and closing it. It appears the E7 hinge makes the keyboard easier to open and close than the N97, but appears to still be more difficult than the Desire Z.

  • @desire this desire I am in SA with this desire z I am on MTN and yes the 3G works.

  • In your previous posts you claimed you never had any issue with this z hinge equipped QWERTY. But now you say you would love to have e7 keyboard. Doesn't it mean that you feel some kind of hazards with the z hinge?

  • I would love to have the E7 keyboard with the HTC screen running Android.

  • Mate you might be lucky who aint facing any sort of problem with the hinge , but there are many who either have got it fixed from the htc service centre and few still waiting for the replacement/ or for the repair work which needs to be done due to bad/low quality hinge . i dont have this phone , but than couple of my friends have got major issues with it and 1 of them have got it replaced and the other friend is still waiting for the phone to come back from the service centre . they fear opening the qwerty bcoz it might go kaput again so they trying to use onboard touch screen keyboard . E7 has the best phisical qwerty and htc should learn from nokia how to make a touchphone with physical qwerty !!

  • is the slide-qwerty adjustable?

  • can sumone PLS tell me if the 3G on this phone will work in South africa,i've checked but still not sure????

  • can sumone PLS tell me if the 3G on this phone will work in South africa,i've checked but still not sure????

  • what you talking about? What hinge problem? Its the best keyboard mechanism ever and it has no problems.

  • you do realise there is no 31st in april?

  • for me that is not a real problem. you can use touch screen keyboard to avoid the hinge problem. i bought this phone on new year eve of 2011 and never use that slide-out keyboard until now.

  • Cant verify it but i have my desire Z for over 4 months now, and no single scratch on the screen. i have it in my pocket with my keys and my lighter quite often. So I do think it has Gorrila glass

  • According to Corning's web site, the Desire Z does have gorilla glass: Doing a Google search, it appears that there are sites that support the fact that the Desire Z has gorilla glass. One site did a scratch test. I personally won't know gorilla glass from some other substance if it were staring me in the face (which it is), so I cannot personally verify it. I am also not willing to risk trying to scratch my screen to answer your question. :)

  • is the gorilla glass on Desire Z real?, because on other websites gorilla glass isn't mentioned/written... I appreciate any reply.. =)

  • This is a pretty nice phone. Easy to use qwerty keypad which folds under so it doesn't get in the way of the touchscreen. Android easy as ever to run. This is pretty much a personal taste phone. If your looking for the HTC touchscreen experience with buttons then this is the choice for you.

  • Desire Z have problems with the hinge, it has not been "fixed"! But not everyone see the loose hinge as any problem at all, it is very easy to open the keyboard so some actually see the loose hinge as something good. It is better to have a too loose hinge than a too hard hinge, and the hinge is loose for open and closing the keyboard but it is not loose so it would feel as if it would break. I can live with the bad loose hinge, but I have real problems with the fact that I can not use any office editing program other than the limited version of quickoffice that come with the phone, because HTC still have not fixed the fatal problem with åäö always is ÅÄÖ and closing and opening the keyboard again only "fix" this when using the limited version of quickoffice that come with the phone, but it does not fix the problem when I use any other, better, office-editing software from the Market, and in those program not even ? or ! is working when I use the keyboard.

  • not true this month april 20/31 desirrez and samsung galaxy s get it in few days Desire z

  • My understanding is that it will not be available until June at least.

  • I have this phone since November and have never had any issues with the Z hinge.

  • they announced that the desire, desire hd and desire z are going to be upgradeable to android 2.3 gingerbread back sometime late last year /new year, but anyone got the update yet? looking for official updates.

  • not really a problem, thou if you did get the g2 version (in america under t mobile) it would be since it tended to have loose connections and not so flush when closed or opened, the desire z seems to have fixed this, seen quite a few of them but none seem to have had the problem of the older g2s

  • its really a very good phone to use, i have been using it for the last 3 months..its working really great.. battery life is too gud compared to other smart phones...i'm getting the battery for 2 days.. applications are too gud.. there r lots of application both for fun and working.. its desing is superb looks really gr8...its querty keybord helps me typing really fast as im used to keybord... it got 7 home screens thats cool to hav our fovourite widgets nd applications directly on the home screens.. hav many features that many of u lyk to hav on ur smart phone.. its better than apples iphone.. guys im telling u gonna lyk it very much.... worth buying..... the only defect it has is.. it dosent hav a front camera..i'm really worried about it..... anywayz it fine...

  • is the z hinge mechanism a real problem??

  • Is the Z hing mechanism a real problem??

  • Not sure about the G2. I know that people in other countries have received the update before I did in Canada (Bell).

  • Is the firmware update for desire z only or for t-mobile G2 too?

  • Owned it. Nice looking. Nice feel. Nice weight. Highly customizable and interface is well thought out. However it eventually started to lag so bad and a hard reset doesn't help. Apps require forced closing frequently and I don't even have much downloaded. Caved in eventually, changed to an iPhone which is "dumber" and has a better user experience. There is a reason why iPhone sells so well.

  • It's works perfectly with flash

  • An INR 28K phone without a secondary camera... Only HTC can do it!!!!

  • new firmware?

  • The latest 1.84.666.2 firmware upgrade makes the Flash videos play even better.

  • Yes, flash is fully compatible on the browser. You can view videos/ads easily.

  • hi guys can anybody tell me that this phone has flash supported browser? i now its ridiculous question but 7227 600 mhz processors cant support it and its just 7230 800 mhz. is it enough? if it is does it work without any problem?

  • battery life is decent... I can get 2-3 days worth of moderate use.

  • IMO, go for the htc desire z if you want longer life support and customizations, through XDA of course. you can go Motorola droid 2 cause its better in specs but since their bootloader is locked you cant really customize the droid 2 as much as you can with the desire Z. As of right now.. htc has confirmed that android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is coming to the desire z sometime this year, and to my knowledge i haven't heard anything about Motorola giving the droid 2 the update to 2.3 although there are leaks apparently from officials but im not sure.

  • Just got the 1.84.666.2 update for the Desire Z. So far, I have noticed some improvements in the web browser. Much better at playing Flash videos. The keyboard now has the and ^ symbols.

  • Desire or Desire z? Why?

  • how about the battery perfomance?

  • HTC Desire Z or Motorola Milestone 2? Please help...

  • yes. QuickOffice

  • Choose in this way. Galaxy S2, Desire Z. Drawback is No video calling in android. But if you don't need you can get wide variety of applications. Symbian is as of now not so good. i was Symbian freak but now changed to Android :):) Best Regards

  • Does it have document viewer/editor.

  • Hi, Im planning to buy a new mobile..! My choice is C7 or HTC Desire Z or Samsung galaxy S2 .! these are mobiles in my mind.! Which one i can go for.? Any suggestion.? Please advise me.! With Thanks Sakthi V Rajan

  • Check out Ericsson R380 and be amazed.xd Yes Ericsson not Sony Ericsson.

  • touch screen handsets came out some time ago eg palm and other stylus controlled

  • Using it since 2010's Xmas and awesome experience. It's true, the hard keyboard slide may not be the best, but if you care about your phone, you will not have any problem. You will get used and will be natural. Is a little heavy, but the hard keyboard worths it. My monster fingers smoothly write messages in seconds. Really speedy phone, 3G works excellent, not much dropped calls, I'm waiting anxious the Android 2.3 upgrade. I use it for work, facebook, twitter, all together, all integrated. I will recommend it to everyone who wants an excellent phone, above the average of knowns smart phones

  • Yes HTC will push the update in the near future,, and u don't pay anything for the update!

  • As with all software updates the only possible cost is that of data transfer from the internet. So if you have a dataplan or access to a wifi the cost is zero. Or you can even download the update via an internet connected pc and use a usb cable to update the phone. Also it has been announced by htc that the gingerbread update will come in June 2011.

  • Can somebody please tell me the latest market price of this phone? Thanks.

  • The two holes on the top left of the phone are the proximity sensor and the light sensor. There is no front facing camera on this phone.

  • err, first touch screen wasn't in 2006, I had an o2 xda II, with touch screen, came out in 2003 ;)

  • I can not recommend this phone, the hinge IS extremly bad, but for me and all of us in Sweden Z have a fatal problem because our swedish letters åäö are always big ÅÄÖ in almost every app and officeediting-software installed from the market, and the "fix" close and the open the keyboard again only result in the letters åäö now are always small and not even the Shift-key can make them large ÅÄÖ.

  • can someone please tell me the latest market price of this phone. Thanks.

  • If you like me are from Sweden then I strongly recommend you NOT to buy Z, because it have a big fatal "bug" with åÅäÄöÖ because the hardware-keyboard have problems with almost every office-editing software from the market, only the limited version of QuickOffice that come preinstalled can handle åäö properly when using the slideout-qwerty. It only give capital letters for ÅÄÖ, and the "solution" to close then open the keyboard again only result in only small åäö that do not become capital letters even when the shift-key is pressed. And the symbols ? and ! also very often do not work when pressing the function-key.

  • I've had this phone for a good couple of months now and for the ppl who are skeptical about the Z hinge, don't be. Everything has wear and tear and as ling as you don't treat your phone like crap then you won't have a problem with the hinge. Anyway, I've been wondering, are one of those two things on the top left corner of the phone a front facing camera? I've heard that 2.3 will enable some phones to use it when 2.3 comes out for that particular phone

  • Agree with u on everything. Though i find it hard to believe uve been using touchscreen phones for 7 years while the first one came out in 2006.

  • Is the android version upgradable to 2.3 (Gingerbread)?......also tell the estimated cost of upgrading plz.

  • Hi, Anybody out there running 2.3 gingerbread on this phone if yes please do let me know ho to do that....... Thanks ....

  • anybody out there with Gingerbread on this device if yes would please let me know the procedure to do so Thanks .....!!

  • Keyboard hinge is really bad, when i hold the phone the keyboard can flop a bit - i feel like its going to flop out alot of the time. why not a simple slide out ? stupid design

  • Hi Can anyone tell me where i can get remote desktop for the HTC Desire Z please?

  • Itz classy act...a well designed aluminum body..conveniently spaced keyboard (believe its a handy tool while chatting) ...800 mhz processor is super fast enough to handle 2.2/2.3 android. whoever is badmouthing z keyboard..guys u need a reality chek..it much smoother than normal slider keyboards...i have been using touch screens and qwerty keypads now for 7 years..this has turnout to be d best of all...i have used windows mobiles for 5 years..nd must android is commendable OS..absolute mix of work nd play..guyz blindly go for dis handset..itz worth a buy

  • thanks, It looks like I have to try to live without it...:) lets see...:)

  • If you want a physical keyboard, the Desire Z is available now. I moved from an N97 to the Desire Z and I am really happy with the switch. I think you will be happy as well. I'm not sure when the Xperia Pro will be available in your area. It's not out yet, so there is not much hands on information regarding this phone. The iPhone 4 is the oldest of the three you mentioned. It also has no physical keyboard. If you want a physical keyboard, there are some third party keyboards that you can purchase which would cost you even more money.

  • When it comes to phones with a physical keyboard, there is not much selection. I personally do not have a problem with the hinge. After bringing my N97 out of retirement (for music player functions only), I found that I prefer the feel of the N97 keyboard, but would like to have the layout of the Desire Z keyboard. The keyboard on the Desire Z requires a bit of strength to depress compared to the N97. However, the Desire Z keyboard layout is such that I do not need to press the shift/alt key as often to type in some commonly used punctuation marks. Definitely no phone is perfect, however overall, the Desire Z is a great phone for me. I find it very easy to access the apps and info that I use most often. The HTC Widgets are excellent. GPS is great and locks on in a few seconds. I had some phone restart issues when using Google Maps, but that has disappeared with the latest Google Maps update.

  • I have bought this Z and I use it as my everyday phone. The Z-hinge sucks, why try to deny that? The call quality is excellent and gps is also excellent. It does lose 3G-connection randomly but it can be days without any lost connection. Gaming is better than on original Desire but far from as good as on Galaxy S, and if gaming is your nr 1 priority then you probably should buy LG Optimus 2X. If you do not want or need a hardware keyboard then there are many phones that are a better choice than Z, but I really like to use a hardware keyboard so I can live with the fact that it is not a perfect gaming-phone. Users usually always think their own phone is perfect and they never accept that they could have made a better choice if they had bought another phone, and users usually never say anything bad about their own phone, just as car-owners usually always think their car, SAAB or VOLVO or..., is the best car in the world, because if they did not think it is the best then they would look stupid if the still bought it. Z is the best phone today if you want a hardware keyboard, but I only dared to buy this phone because it now, in Sweden, cost just as much/little as the original Desire and as the old N97 mini, if the price had not been lowered this much I would not have bought it and if it cost more in your country I do not know if I can recommend it because the keyboard is good but it could be better with more space between the keys. I recommend waiting to see if SE Pro will be better or if it have its own probelms or will be to expensive. Batteylife is ok, not much worse or better than on any other smartphone today, one day of normal mixed use is what I get out of my Z.

  • hey guys i m planning 2 buy a phn.i m currently using nokia 5800.......plz suggest me between iphone 4,htc desire z or shud i wait for xperia pro?? Thanx in advance

  • TC, Hahahahah i dont believe you have buying this phone i read much negative post from you over this and phone This phone is amzzing and you are a liar

  • not buying ! , this is really expensive cmpred to d price of desire right now..

  • I have only used Z for a week but I really like it so far. The hinge is very, very, loose but I can live with that because it is possible to hold the phone so that the keybord do not close by only the force of gravity. There is no spring involved att all, only the loose hinge. A bigger problem is the fact that Z sometimes lose the connection to my 3G-network even though it have "all the bars" and had no problem at all just a second before and I have not moved at all. But the 3G-connection is only gone for less than a minute and it does not happen every day, but it is very randomly and some days are worse than others. One week is not enough time to say anyting about batterylife. The keyboard is good but it takes a few hours to get used to, and I still can not write as fast as I could on my old N97 mini, I find the edge, frame, below the spacebar to be a little too big and too close and a problem when pressing the spacebar. It is a heavy phone and that could be a problem, but it is rather thin. If you can live with the very loose hinge, that I do not think will break but just never fimly locks the screen to the keyboard in either open or closed position, then Z is very good. I do sometimes find Z a bit slower than the original Desire but the gpu is much better and gaming is much better on Z. I bought Z because it now is very cheap in Sweden and if it were not this cheap then I probably would have waited to read the first user-reviews for SonyEricsson Pro, but for this price I think there is no better choice today. Nokia E7 have only 640x360 on a 4 inch screen, and it is very expensive for beeing only a Symbian.

  • i am goin to buy one kindy tell me the draw backs you have with htc desire z

  • In Sweden Z now cost the same as the original Desire, and as N97 mini, so I could not resist that good buy. The Z-hinge have all, all, the problems that I thought it would have, gravity will open and close the keyboard! The keyboard is not as bad as I thought, but the space between the keys should and could be bigger to allow faster typing text. The keyboard is better than the one on HTC Touch Pro 2 but I think the keyboard on N97 mini is better because it have more space between the keys, but the keyboard on Z is good enough. The gps is perfect, it locked in 5 seconds from within my appartment and that is faster than any other gps I have used. The FM-radio is good. Unfortunatly Z have problems keeping a stable 3G-connection, it can suddenly lose connection even though the phone have "all the bars" and even though it just the second before had no problem with the connection on the exact same place and I have not moved at all. For this price, the same as original Desire, Z is definetly a good buy, but the very loose hinge makes the phone feel like a toy, not a high quality smartphone. The optical trackpad is not as responsive as i would have liked it to be. The weight is no problem because it is so "thin". Z is definetly better than Nokia E7 ,but SonyEricsson could be better than Z but I do not think Pro will be a better buy because Pro probably will be very much more expensive.

  • Further to my reply. Is it possible to use a Micro SDHC card? On GSM Arena it says that Desire Z uses Micro SD, I'm not sure if that would mean Micro SDHC cards are incompatible for it. If there is anyone who could answer this for me it would be much appreciated. :) If it does work then I'll buy a 32GB Class 10 Micro SDHC card.

  • Thanks for the info, I would if I could wait patiently for 6 months. However, I'm afraid my Nokia has reached its expiry and is better of being put under the use of another owner when I factory restore and erase all user data on it. Due to how uncommon android keyboard phones are, I will have to settle with the Desire Z on 24 month contract, which I have just ordered last night and is due tomorrow morning. Hopefully this phone should be strong enough to compete with other phones that come out in the future, if necessary I will root it. By doing so I will overclock its cpu, this should suffice for the year to come. Please update me on any worthy android keyboard phones, more preferably HTC branded. Thank you.

  • As far as I know, the Desire Z is currently the most recent Android phone with a keyboard out right now. The SE Xperia Pro has been announced, but I do not believe it is released yet. HTC has one called the Merge that has not been officially announced yet. Not sure when it will be announced or released. The full screen with keyboard form factor is not very common. There are not very many out at any given time. The Desire Z was announced 6 months ago and has been out over 4 months. No matter what phone you by that is the most recent, I'm sure 6 months later, there will be something better out or coming around the corner.

  • I own the HTC Desire Z. I am very satisfied with its performance and functionality. The keyboard is built of sturdy construction and it works like a charm. There are some problems though. I don't know if every Desire Z owner experiences this but, my HTC sometimes randomly turns off and the only way to start it again is by taking out the battery and putting it back in. In addition the battery life is average for a smart phone. I get around 12-15 hours with medium texting, internet usage, games and half an hour of phone call. Keep in mind that background sync of mail and social network plays a factor in battery performance too. Other than that, if no phone calls are made and no games are played and no calls made, the battery can last for 1 day and 2-6 hours.

  • I've got one for around 2 months, and I think it's one of the best celphones I ever had. It's fast, Facebook/Google integration is great. Buuuut I have some little problems. Like when I we get in DST, the HTC Clock Widget always display the wrong timealong with wrong weather sometimes(do anyone knows how to fix this?) And the battery drains a lot. If I take it out of the charger at 9 AM I must charge it at 7PM D: that if I don't use it too much, if I keep browising stuff the battery will be out at noon hahaha. Also mine shut down out of the blue a couple of times as if I had removed the battery. Apart from, this it's a great phone!

  • I'm the same as Junn, I've got a Nokia N97 mini. I'm planning to buy the Desire Z but I've heard of other good keyboard android phones too that are also as powerful as the the Desire Z but are coming out later this summer I think. Please help me make up my mind.

  • Just got the new HTC Desire Z and I am blown away by the slick technology and user friendly interface. The operating system Android 2 is like the interface on Apple, smooth sliding and scrolling, brilliant internet connectivity, wireless and bluetooth. This is an exceptional phone. The querty keyboard is fantastic. Only comment to HTC is that the toggle button is a little fiddly and it would be nice to have arrows on the keyboard to scroll through content. The phone slides open like a streamlined Farari door! This is the Rolls Royce of phones. Well Done. Looking forward to a wider scope of Apps from the Android comunity. Still haven't been able to download skype mobi for some reason. Ciao. Tam

  • My software is still at 1.34.666.5. No updates available. I suspect that updates here in Canada are delayed compared to other countries. What country are you from?

  • Can somebody please tell me the different between HTC Desire Z and TMobile G2? And I wanna know the price range of both phones.

  • It depends on the use. You should check the battery consumption stats. Go your home screen, press the menu button, then "settings", then "about the phone", then "battery", then "battery usage". I can see from there where the juice is going to. Most of it goes to the screen (almost 50%), so check your screen settings to make it less bright. There are tons of guides out there to further tune and customize your desire Z. Just need to google a bit.

  • It is not gingerbread. Just a bug fix update. My kernel version is now 2.6.32.21, and the software number is 1.82.405.1.

  • To check your software is easy. Let me give you some instructions, though I must warn that my phone's language is not english and that the instructions may not be using the correct words. In the home screen, check android's menu button, then "settings", "about the phone", and select the software updates option. You have an option to check if your software is up to date. This depends on your telco, though. I did not buy this phone through a contract, so I am able to follow HTC's updates immediately, without waiting for my provider to review/customize them.

  • is the battery life really 9hrs as its provided...??? imp coz want to buy it...

  • I have been listening about this Z-hinge for a very long time and even at one point of time i too was afraid to buy this phone, but trust me it isnt like it what you see in youtube.... I got this Case (book-type) from Pdair and this phone looks much like a complete business phone and awesome presence. If you think Z-hinge can be an issue for you, get this case. check this out: official site: www.pdair.com I want to share my personal reviews on this phone: Pro's 1. Adequate RAM, CPU and GPU...so no lag in whatsoever 2. Awesome qwerty keypad, well spacious and easy to use 3. multi-touch & trackpad 4. 720p camcorder - awesome video recording 5. Google Android experience with Froyo 6. GPS, tithering, 3G, Wifi - all in one combo 7. Premium metal finish - increase phone look and feel Con's 1. weighs heavier than other phones (180gm) >> but you will get used to it... :) 2. Battery mah is less >> if you are a hardcore user, battery will last only a day, if you disabled edge / 3G you can drag up to 1.5-2days with only calls, however standby is really good (~1.2weeks) 3. Z-hinge >> Hinge is never an issue, buy a pdair case to make it look more professional

  • How did u update your Desire Z. I am Interested because my phones battery last 3/4 of a day? thanks

  • Can you tell me how you updated your phone? I am interested about battery life. Mine usually last 6 to 7 hours. Good phone but battery not so good? Thanks

  • What update was this? I wasn't aware there was an update available for the Desire Z. I know that Gingerbread is due to be released in a few months.

  • this is a flop phone

  • Oops, looks like the hyperlink isn't working so here's the link for you to copy and paste:

  • This might of some interest to most of you's who have a G1, but it'll probably come to G2 quite soon. Below is a link to an Engadget post of a working Honeycomb port for the G1, a video of the port on the G1 is also included in the post: HTML

  • tc on the time its took you to decide while you are just moaning about every little thing....htc have brought out a new qwerty phone...get a grip

  • I have updated recently my desire Z to the last OTA (seems to have been activated 2 days ago) and it seems to me it goes pretty much better. Battery performance has improved. The phone, before, could end the day almost depleting the battery. Now, it has been 1d and 9h and the battery still has 20%. The phone does not have some lags I appreciated before. In general, a very positive update. Have you experienced the same?

  • The best ,nothing more to say, just the best.

  • the only solution to that problem is to pick your phone carefully. almost every phone that came out has its own flaws... there is no such thing as the perfect phone. if you're worried about the hinge, u can try other brands. as a desire z user, i'm quite satisfied with it's performance. sure i also worry about the hinge. so that's why i take good care of it. happy phone hunting.

  • i know what you mean. i do the same so that the screen would not fall or move while lying on my back.

  • when will the HTC Merge be out into the market?

  • They are both very similar. The Desire Z is newer and has better specs. Desire Z has a faster processer, more built it storage and a physical keyboard. Both will be getting Gingerbread later this year.

  • i m puzzle in buying htc derire and desire z which one is the best phone

  • The Merge is both GSM and CDMA.

  • Merge is for US Verizon, its not a GSM phone.

  • I cant get you, i tried and i cant hold only the screen part. the closest i came was to hold it between my index fingers by applying an inwards force, but no sane person would hold a fone that way.

  • The 4 mm edge of the screen half of the phone is also slanted and rounded. If you do try to hold only this part of the phone, it is more likely to slip from your fingers before the keyboard half opens. It's probably only 2.5 mm slanted and then the other 1.5 mm is rounded away even more. If you are so against the Z hindge, perhaps the HTC Merge is more to your liking. It features a physical keyboard as well. Information on this phone is rather limited right now, but the keyboard mechanism appears to be a slider instead of the Z hinge mechanism of the Desire Z.

  • Stuntman respect for the good things you telling about the desire z.Iff somebody wants 2know something stuntman always gives a good answer about the phone good work m8

  • I hold all my phones on the very edge of the screen when it is tilted down when I watch movies and I hold the phone above me, so 4 mm is more than enough. This is a problem that some professional reviewers have concern about, and they obviesly watch movies in bed holding the phone exactly like I am. No other phone have a this lose hinge, definetly not N97 mini. A big company as HTC should know better than make a hinge like this, especially when the phone is so very heavy as Z is.

  • If you are holding the phone in landscape mode above your head while lying in your bed, the screen part of the phone is only 4 mm thick. It is unlikely that you would hold the phone by the screen part only. The finger you use to support the phone will most likely also cover the keyboard part of the phone. Most people when they hold this phone will place their finger in the middle of the side of the phone which means the finger will be supporting both the keyboard part and the screen part. I don't know how you hold your devices. You seem to come up with creative ways to hold phones in a manner which most people would not. If you do only grip the screen part, then you would likely have the same issue with the SE X Pro. The keyboard part of the phone is generally the heavier side. If you only grip the screen side, then as you move the phone around, gravity will likely pull the keyboard down even for sliders. I also have an N97 which has a spring with more tension. If I only grip this phone on the screen part and then move it around, I can get the keyboard to also fall down due to gravity and some moderate motion. Instead of trying to find problems with the Z hinge of the Desire Z, why not just try to see how you could hold it without the keyboard opening or closing? It's not that hard and not that cumbersome.

  • When I am in bed watching a movie on my phone I hold it only in "the screen-part" because the screen is tilted down a little and resting on my fingers, but when my hand get tired and I change position gravity will open the keyboard and its weight will make me drop the phone because I am only holding in the screen part. I am not trying to give Z a bad reputation, I actually like Z and could end up buying it, Pro could be to expensive or have some other problems specific for Pro, but the z-hinge is a real design-problem. It is very possible to pick upp the phone holding only the half part, even though that is not the intention but you could be in a hurry and not looking carefylly on how you pick up the Z. Placement of the keys are standard on all qwerty-keyboards, q followed by w followed by e..., but some bad keybords have to little space between the keys or the keys do not have enough travel when the are pressed, and it is only those bad keyboards that have long learning periods for the user. The symbols on top of keys that demand using function-key may need some learning, but typing normal letters on the qwerty need no lerning-period if the keybord is not bad. The problem with Z is the to small space between keys and the "travel" when the keys are pressed is to short.

  • The lying on your back position can result in the screen drooping down. The way I get around it is I hold the screen up with my index finger as I type with my thumbs.

  • the proper usage of the phone will make it last longer. also, it always depends on the design construction on which how you should use or rather hold it. some have sturdy slide mechanisms, others have a loose construction. but that doesn't mean that one is inferior to the other. taking good care of your phone makes it last longer. if you are disappointed of your phone, you can always replace it. sell it, or swap it with a phone that meets your criteria. As for me, I've been using my desire z for a month now. sure i also noticed that the hinges a little loose whenever i try to use it lying on my back. I have read most of the comments here regarding the HINGE. After numerous times of sliding the keyboard, I'm still satisfied with the overall performance of the phone.

  • i agree with you. nobody picks up his desire z by only the half part...that's just so stupid. they just come up with things in order to destroy the desire z's reputation.

  • does htc plays full song for message tone?

  • You can get it in ebay, at just below $10 with free shipping.

  • Until they make key placements on all phone keyboards standard, there will be a learning curve. The N97 keyboard has the space bar off to one side. It took me a while to adjust to something as simple as this change. I keep hitting the shift key or period for a while before I got used to it. For many of the symbols, it is also different with different keyboard. The numbers are also different on different keyboards. The BlackBerry numbers are in a T9 configuration where as they are on a typewriter configuration on many other phone. Keyboards will generally have 3 to 5 rows of keys. All of these differences in addition to a different feel of the buttons contributes to a learning curve. The more similar the new keyboard you use is to the old one, the less of a learning curve you will have. BlackBerrys generally have the same keyboard layout, so if you go from one to another, your learning curve will not be very steep at all. Going from a BB to an N97 Mini will require a learning curve. As good as you say the N97 Mini keyboard is, if I change to it, I am sure that it will take a few weeks to adjust to it. The reason is that now I have to deal with the fact that there is only one shift key. The space bar is off to one side. The punctuation is in different locations. I have to press the shift/alt key to access the question mark and the @ key. The keyboard is also going to be smaller and will have a different feel. All of these differences will take time for me to learn and to unlearn how to use a Desire Z keyboard.

  • Good keyboards do not need a month learning curve, N97 mini have a very good keyboard, that is a lot better then and very different from the "original" N97, and I did not need any learning curve at all to be able to write fast on N97 mini. If a keyboard need a long learning curve then it is a bad keyboard!

  • Was the Rhodium your old phone? Have you tried both the DZ and SE XP and found you like the XP better? Just FYI, practically every keyboard is designed with a different look, layout and feel. No matter what keyboard you switch to, you will have a learning curve of a few weeks at least if you text regularly. If you don't the learning curve will be longer. It took me a few weeks to get used to the N97 and then when I switched to the DZ, it took me another few weeks to get used to that. My BlackBerry took a lot longer as I rarely text on it. With so many different keyboard designs out there, you cannot really know for sure whether you like the keyboard or not until you use it for a month. Only then do you realise if you have difficulties with it or if there are features you really like about it. It took me that long to realise that on the N97, the key was in an inconvenient place as I often hit it by accident. When I switched to the DZ, I found I had to press the keys in a different manner. The keys on the DZ are raised while the ones on the N97 are flush with the panel. The BlackBerry is an entirely different animal with no space in between keys. If you are uncomfortable with the DZ, then just go with the SE XP. I don't want you to get a phone you are not comfortable with. Let us know how you like it after a month.

  • ive got a fat scratch on the bettery cover of my dz somehow anyone know how much they are to replace?

  • pressing the keys are awsome on a desire z man you dont know nothing about the z i think you are a windowlicker with no money

  • This is the "deal breaker" for me that make me not buy Z: "The keyboard itself is very good. But strangely, not quite as nice as the one on the Touch Pro 2. The the keys are slightly smaller (and one less row of keys), and do not have quite as much travel when pressing the keys. It feels like a slight step backward from the Rhodium," , I really did not lika the keyboard on Touch Pro 2.

  • I was a bit too quick to post. I get more that a day of on time with leaving the device on. Streaming tunewiki, SMS, email, and web browsing not too much with the phone calls, no video capture. but I only had the battery a few days. More testing is required. I certainly don't reach for my Power Monkey as much as I did. I no longer use juicedefender screenblanker, or have to be conservative with my APN, or background data sync settings.

  • That comment regarding the hinge getting weak was made by somebody who has probably never used a DZ. I've had mine for a while now, and it's just snappy as day one. Also, another big bonus was getting the 3500 mAh battery off eBAY. Now, I get thirty+ hours of on time no matter what I'm doing, without needing a powerup, and I can hook my non-dominant hand's middle finger around the battery housing for extra stability when doing extended typing, like this repy. B-)

  • You seem to be in a delima. You like some aspects of the Xperia Pro more and others of the Desire Z more. You have to decide if either has any "deal breakers" for you. I don't think you should have any concerns about the ribbon cable on the Desire Z. It would only be exposed for the split second that you open or close the keyboard. It is otherwise, well protected. It is impossible for me to say how well the hinge will last after two years. All I can say is that after three and a half months, I have not observed the hinge on my Desire Z degrading in any way. I do use the keyboard often, so I flip it open a number of times a day. I can understand your concern about the weight. I went from an N97 (150g) to the Desire Z (180g). I do notice the extra weight, but it doesn't really bother me. I personally keep it in a belt holster rather than my pocket.

  • You like se i like htc you are in the wrong forum m8 yes you are a basher go away

  • Even xda-developers have problem rooting the latest versions of the official HTC rom, and the method is rather risky for everyone else that could end up with a very expensive brick.

  • Plastic does not have to be a bad thing because it is more important that the phone is lightweight than that the backside looks good hidden in you hand or in your pocket. SE have unfortunatly choosen a very glossy plastic that is a "fingerprint-magnet", but that is hidden in your hand or your pocket so that is no big problem. A 180g metal-phone in the pocket will however be a problem and a constant reminder during the whole day.

  • I do not like the design of SE XPERIA Pro, but it have better specs and better qwerty, I definetly do not like the SE user interface, but for me it is important that the phone is not to heavy because I bring it with me all day in my pants pocket, and the qwerty must be good and I must be able to trust that it will be lasting for more than 2 years and does not have a hinge that could possibly break or someting could accidently damage the cable to the screen. SE Pro have HDMI and a good camera and the best qwerty and a faster cpu and better battery, while the only really better on Z is how it looks with more beautiful design and Sence inside and ofcourse a larger internal memory.

  • Xperia pro l;ooks so plastic cheap cheap you really like xperia pro design above htc desire z ??? Then you are nuts

  • you ever heard of xda developers??? and yes its 140gram xperia pro but its ugly and ugly

  • Sony Ericsson XPERIA Pro is only 140 g and have a better qwerty!

  • "custom roms", how did you root your Z? HTC is updating the rom so newer version of Z will be very hard to root so any new buyers risk being to late for rooting...

  • Good Qwerty makes you e phone heavy

  • Z is very heavy, but still only have a 1300mAh battery.

  • Great phone brings much haters, I use this phone now for almost 3months and its the best i ever had why? fast nice custom roms sense is also nice storage 1,5 gg believe you needed that because apps also get on your phone and cant remove 2 microsd . internet is very fast camera is midium only bad thing is battery

  • What makes you think that most people would pick up the phone while only gripping the keyboard part? Also, for your information the keyboard half is heavier than the screen half. I personally always put the phone on a surface with the screen up. When picking up the phone you have to apply horizontal pressure as you squeeze the phone on the long sides. This grip will tend to keep both halves of the phone closed. I tried picking up the phone with the screen down. The result is pretty much the same. You grip the sides of the phone and this grip prevents the Z hinge from opening. It is highly unlikely that when picking up the phone for you to grip only the keyboard half or screen half of the phone (which ever is facing up). You end up gripping both halves. The only way you would grip only one half of the phone is if you intentionally try to do so. No one who picks up the phone would normally try to intentionally try to only grip the top half of the phone. If you do this to any phone, you would be more prone to drop it because your grip would be poor. You would not grip the Desire Z this way and you would not grip any other phone this way when picking it up either.

  • I think many users pick it up holding only in the back-part when it is on the table... with the screen facing down, and then the heavy screen will fall down and the keyboard open, so the lose hinge will be a problem in the daily use of the phone.

  • Many complain about the fact that the z-hinge does not lock the keyboard in place at all when it is closed and it moves irritatingly even when the keyboard is not being used. Normally I do not hold my phone so that my fingers support the screen, but the z-hinge and the fact that the screen is so heavy force the user to do so. Z is 180 g, and that is very heavy for a phone, so to be able to accept this 180 g it have to be "perfect", and sadly the z-hinge is far from perfekt. The datacable to the screen on N97 mini is more protected and it also have a similar hinge but it firmly locks in position when it open or it is closed, z is the only qwerty that does not firmly lock the screen in place in either open or closed. I love HTC Sence, and do not like the user interface on SonyEricsson phones

  • Many of the criticisms of the hinge do not reflect the reality of most everyday, regular use. The many videos show the person holding it in an way that you would not do so normally. As someone who has used the phone for three months, it is not a problem for me. I have never picked the phone up or used it in a way that results in the keyboard accidentally opening or closing. The way I normally use this phone and the way I see others use theirs most of the time, I do not expect the hinge to be an issue. The position of lying on your back holding the phone above you is the only one that will cause any inconvenience. If you use the phone in this position and it is too much trouble for you to prop the screen up with a finger or two, then perhaps you should look at a different phone. One professional reviewer also suggests doing this. There are things in the design that I would have liked to be a little different, all things considered, I am quite happy with the keyboard.

  • The Desire-Z keyboard hinge thread

  • I do both, I look att positive and negative on both, but Z can be bought today while pro is not on the market yet. I also think that bad things on any phone needs to be clear to all potential buyers, and I really like Z but I read to many reviews by professional reviewers who all have problems with the z-hinge, so all buyers should know that the z-hinge is a real problem before they decide to buy the phone. The qwerty is the reason to buy Z but the z-hinge make users avoid using the qwerty so they have wasted money on a qwerty that they end up not using because of the z-hinge. The design is bad because the qwerty should be locked firmly in the position that the user wants it to be, open or closed, and simply gravity or vibrations when texting should not be able to close or open the qwerty if the user does not want to open or close it, and if the user want to text in bed holding the phone upsidedown the user should be able to do so, and if the qwerty was well designed then it would be locked firmly in open position so that not simple gravity can open it.

  • That's why the E7 hinge is not called a Z hinge.

  • Why don't you just go to the SE Xperia Pro and ask people to provide you with positive points to convince you to get that phone? I think you'll feel much happier if you got a phone because of its good points rather than get it because the other phone has more bad points.

  • yes yes this phone is amazing nerd love it

  • I think not all Z have loose hinge so you may be one of those who have no problems with the hinge. I am trying to find all negatives on Z so that I can convince myself to wait for SE Pro. I do not like the UI on SE but the hardware is great, If only Z had not choosen this Z-hinge...

  • when i got the h/s i charged it over night it has still got 90% battery after 30 hours ive used the h/s upside down and the screen didnt fall down aparently aswell since ive had the phone im now even better lookign that before :)

  • the e7 hinge is discusting it makes me feel sick thinking about it its not even in the shaope of a z

  • If I read the comments here and see the score, than I need to smile. Have the phone about 1 month now at believe me it is really good. No unwanted open of closing keyboard, good speed, good battery life for a smartphone, keys are big enough, Androit is nice. Top mobile.

  • I use it while lying on the couch with my back against the arm rest. The way I hold it, the phone is generally below the height of my head. I never have problems with the screen closing on my even when texting. In any case, when I look at videos, I'm generally not texting anyway. Generally, the keyboard is either in the fully open or fully closed position. You don't normally keep the keyboard in a partially open position for more than a split second anyway. When the keyboard is fully opened or closed, the ribbon cable is not exposed at all. The Nokia N97 exposes the ribbon cable more when the keyboard is opened. The reason is that the screen tilts, so there is a gap where you can see the ribbon cable.

  • If you sit in a comfirable chair and lean back a little then the keyboard will close, and on all youtube-videos the keyboard only stay open if you do not move it at all but as soon as you start texting then the vibrations will close it. Another problem with the z-hinge is that the datacable to the screen looks really exposed and could rather easily be damaged.

  • that's because you haven't had a motorola flipout!!!

  • The hinge on the E7 is similar to the Desire Z. The difference is the E7's hinge is built with larger and sturdier supports, the spring tension is higher and it tilts the screen. It's the premier Symbian phone with a keyboard right now.

  • The lying on your back while holding the phone above you position will result in gravity closing the screen. I just compensate by propping the screen up with my index finger while still typing with my thumb. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, then perhaps you should choose another phone. Personally, I rarely use the phone in this position and if I do, I'm comfortable propping the screen up with a finger while typing. Most of the time, the screen is facing upwards, so it is not an issue for me. If it is too much of a compromise to prop the screen up with your finger and you often hold the phone above your head a lot, then perhaps another phone with a different keyboard design would be better for you.

  • Most of the demonstrations on these videos show the person holding the phone in an unusual way. If you plan to hold your phone by gripping only half of the edge and then flailing it around and expect it to not flop, then get another phone. The way I use the phone, I don't have a problem with the hinge or the looseness of the spring. It doesn't open or close accidentally on me.

  • so far my desire z on first overnight charge after recieving it has lasted 11 hours and still on full battery do you think it would last even longer if it ran on symbian?

  • because i need a z hinge e7 is grim desire is amazing but needs symbian sybiam rulezzzzzzzzzz also xperia pro is ugly

  • You should not hold IPhone4 normaly, and Z should not be used in bed or even holding it vertically because then gravity will close the keyboard? Every other phone can be used without any restrictions how you should hold the phone. Gravity and being used a lot will "damage" the phone, but that is after years, not weeks of normal use.

  • i think that's only normal because of the weight of the LCD. also, it is not designed to be used while you are lying in bed. again, the factor for it is GRAVITY. remember that any movable parts when subjected to usage tends to wear out in time.

  • I would miss the directional arrows on the keyboard. 180 g is a bit to much. And i think Z and HD have the same problem as my Desire do have with keeping stable 3G and wifi-connections sometimes But my biggest fear is the z-hinge. My problem with SonyEricsson Pro is the small internal memory and the 3.5 mm on the side not the top.

  • If you want to run Symbian, why don't you get an E7 instead?

  • I will wait for SE XPERIA Pro, the internal memory is not large enough, but everything else is better than on Z. If xperia pro did not exist then I would buy Z

  • im getting my desire z tomorrow, how to i get ti to run symbian?

  • Ok! Thanks! I will wait a few days before I decide what is easiest, root Z or fix data2ext on XPERIA Pro.

  • The keys on the Desire Z are raised, so you should be able to feel where the key ends. Also, you will definitely feel a click when you press the key.

  • Rooting Z is looks like really hard and risky work, but adding data2ext to SE experia pro will not be easy either, so ?

  • Space between the keys is not enough to be able to text fast, the keys have to be "high" enough so I can feel without any doubt that I have pressed the key, and the edges of each key must be "sharp" so I clearly feel where the key ends and where the next key is. I sholud be able to text based on feel only without having to look at the keys. The big problem with Touch Pro 2 was that the keys did not have any clear edges so I could never feel if I was pressing the correct key, and the distansce each key was pressed was to "shallow" so it was difficult to know if I had pressed it or not, and the surface of the keyboard was too "slippry"

  • I'm not sure how fast is fast in your context. At my rate of texting, I do not have any issue with pressing two keys. The keys on the keyboard are spaced fairly apart so that I do not press two keys by accident. I did not root my phone, so I cannot comment on that. I would direct you to the Android forums to find more information on rooting this phone. Here's the link: Members there will be better able to provide you with rooting information.

  • I need root for Titanium backup and for AdFree Android... so if rooting is to hard then this will definetly not be my next phone.

  • Have you rooted your Z, how did you do it, some say Z is rather hard to root?

  • Well I have not finaly decided wich one to buy, the problem with xperia pro is that it only have 320 mb internal memory and I do not know if I want to do all the "hard" work that I had to do with the original Desire install data2ext and I it will be some time before the programmers at xda will help me with a ready made fix/solution for xperia pro. Z have 1,5 gb internal memory and do not need me to install any data2ext... I also fear that xperia pro will be rather expensive. When you text fast do you ever press more than just one key, that is the problem I had with Touch Pro 2?

  • This is the only texting position that makes it more difficult to use the Desire Z. I normally do not text a lot in this position because I find it tiring to hold the phone up whether I'm entering text or reading only. If I do, I just re-adjust my grip to ensure the screen does not close down on me. For the position I normally use the phone, I do not have any issues with the hinge. I really like the keyboard as the keys are spaced apart (unlike BlackBerrys) and the most often used punctuation are easily accessed without having to press the key. The weight is not an issue for me. It does feel heavier than other phones, but not so much that it is uncomfortable to hold and use.

  • SonyEricsson xperia pro is 140 g, not 180 g, and have no "flimsy" z-hinge so you can text when you are in bed with the phone upside-down, and pro have HDMI, and 1500 mAh battery, and a much more comfortable qwerty for fast texting... Z is good but the z-hinge and the relatively bad qwerty and 180 g make me choose SonyErisson XPERIA Pro.

  • the screen goes blank whenever u put the phone near your face when making a call. it's one of desire z's features to prevent you from pressing anything on the screen during calls. it automatically locks the screen. as for the unresponsive touchscreen, try recalibrating it in the set-up. if it does not work, take it to a service center and have it checked. or you can reset the phone. hope these tips will help.

  • hello. i own a desire z and i recommend that u buy it. it's loaded with features and u can get a lot of free apps for it.

  • Hello. well first of all, when ur screen goes blank while making a call...it is one of the features of desire z. it automatically locks the screen to prevent u from touching anything else while making a call. as for the non-responsive touch screen...try recalibrating the touch feature of the phone. you can find it in one of the apps. if after recalibrating and the problem still persists, try taking it to a service center to have it checked. hope your phone will work this time.

  • sony ericsson xperia pro

  • HTC gives us very silly word suggestion.

  • I have three issues with this phone. If someone could help me with i would be really grateful 1. Some times the touch does not respond at all no matter what you do? 2. when you make a call the screen goes blank and attempts to call the person. At times you accidentally call the wrong person from the call log and you cannot end the call as the screen is blank 3. the phone will shutdown for apparently no reason and you may have to remove the battery and put it back, then power it back on. are these common issues or should I go to the service center for software reinstallation.

  • Which one is the best? DHD or Dz? I don't care about the keyboard but the build quality and the performance. And how is the durable??? Any idea?

  • @ Desire I highly recommend you to buy the HTC Desire Z, because you can get the maximum from the Z. Take a look at xda-developers.com. You can install custom ROMs that makes your Z very special and you can even overclock your Z to 1.9GHZ. So you can play PSX4Droid really smoothly.

  • "So please can somebody tell me why my uncle told me not to buy this and go for a SE. I wanna buy this one. So please can anybody give me a clear explanation?" You should ask your uncle why he said that. Let us know what he says and we can tell if you we agree or not.

  • Desire Z is the best phone i found. Earlier i have used nokia E95 and N97.I have noticed few problems in this phone and till date i couldn't fix them. I dont have any HTC authorised dealer or service center nearby.Phone gets switched off once in 3/4 days with no reason. Then it doesn't start unless u remove battery and refit and then it starts.Over last 2 months use I have replaced battery still it needs charging after 3/4 hours inspite of overnight chargeing.that means in spite of 9 hrs chargeing in the night, still have to charge with in 3/4 hours again. After completeing the call the line doesnot get disconnected, then i have to restart the phone again. I was irrited with N97, because of frequent hangups. And now this HTC desire z series is following the same footprints of nokia. please can anybody help me Thank u

  • What is best? DHD or Dz? I don't care about the keyboard but the build quality and performance. So can anybody please tell me which one is good to buy?

  • What is best? DHD or Dz? I don't care about the keyboard but the build quality and performance. So can anybody please tell me which one is good to buy?

  • I got this phone and it's gotta be the best phone out there. It must have the smoothest browser for the internet and the build quality is fantastic. The z hinge is great because it's unique and stops your thumbs hitting the screen. The only complaint i have ive had is its a bit heavy. But with the desire range theres 3 to choose from. the HD and the standard desire. These are alot lighter just because the Z has that hardware keyboard. So buy it, Best android phone with a keyboard out there. The experia x10 are bringing out the the pro version with the keyboard but dont know when.

  • Hey friends, I really like this mobile and will by a unit soon. But my uncle said me that this unit is not good enough as I think. So he told me to buy a SE product. Actually I've never used a HTC product before. I have used only SE. But as I think their latest one - XPERIA X10 is not good enough. So please can somebody tell me why my uncle told me not to buy this and go for a SE. I wanna buy this one. So please can anybody give me a clear explanation? Thanks in advice.

  • Desire Z supports all the major 2G and 3G technologies on GSM networks, no problem. Wifi has nothing to do with your operator, no problems there also.

  • another problem is..I dont know if I'll be able to use htc phones in my country .. I read somewhere that we use 2G : GSM 900 3G : HSDPA I dont know more than this.. plus I dont know if I need to activate wifi from my operator..

  • Desire Z has a much faster GPU, seriously much faster, many times more. But Milestone2 has 25% faster CPU. What is more important is up to you. I have no problem with Desire Z's processor performance so im happy having some GPU power reserve for future game titles.

  • When the phone was brand new, the battery seems to run out faster than now. I've had this phone for 3 months. The instructions with the phone also states that brand new batteries have a shorter life than batteries that have been used for a while. I experienced the same thing with my last phone. As for how long or short it lasts, I can only compare the Desire Z with the N97 (my last smartphone). I find they last more or less just as long. This is based purely on my observation and gut feeling. I didn't actually timed it and my use of the phone tends to vary from day to day. From my memory, when I first got the Desire Z, the battery does not last through the day the first two weeks. I use it a lot in the evening, so before the day is done, I need to charge it. From about a month onward, my phone tends to last the entire day. Maybe once every two weeks I may need to charge it up in the evening. My use has also varied since I first got it. The first two weeks, I was using the phone constantly. I played around with all of the widgets, rearranged my home screens, surf the web and was totally hooked on Angry Birds. From about a month onward, I did less customising of the phone. I probably settled down to a more normal usage pattern. This past month, I decided to use the music player and downloaded all of my songs on it, so I can play it in my car. My general observation is that the battery lasts longer now even though my usage patter has changed. One thing I noticed is that initially, the GPS tends to drain the battery a lot. I use it occasionally if I drive to some unfamiliar part of the city. I noticed that before, my battery goes down fast if I use GPS that day. Now, I find it doesn't drain my battery as much. When I'm in the car, I pretty much constantly have the music player on. My daily commute is over an hour every day. Your usage may vary as well. It's hard to say exactly how many minutes I browse the web, play games, check email, access social networking, customising, etc.

  • I think that HTC suits you. There are some models to chose, the Desire, the Desire Z, or the Desire HD(I heard some negative comments about it, so... Check it too on the Desire HD section.)

  • What about the battery? cause i've read many reviews that people said that the phone runs out of battery really fast? Does the speed gets slower over time? cause i wont be able to get a new one..

  • This is a very good phone for web browsing. The Android browser is excellent and supports flash. When you zoom, it rewraps the text so you do not need to scroll left and right to read the text. The physical keyboard makes it easy for data entry. It can edit word and excel spreadsheets and read PDF's. Camera is 5MP and comes with 8GB SD card. If you want more storage, you can purchase a larger SD card. Only thing this phone does not have is a secondary camera for video calling.

  • which one is better in overall performance; htc desire z or motorola milestone 2?

  • Thanks for replying :D um but i'd like to know .. which htc phone? which one do u recommend me? Does htc meets the requirements that i wrote earlier?

  • This is a cool phone, which is better than the Iphone 4(my opinion). This has a QWERTY keypad, which the Iphone lacks every time. Android is a very good OS, so choose this one. :)

  • go for blackberry 9780. it has all you need. fb,twitter, all chats,5mp cam, good processer and ram, very good resolution, very good keypad, optical track pad, wifi,gps,os6.0. what else you need then.

  • I have owned one since Nov. 2010. At first I thought it was a slick machine. Since I have found out that it was the "heaps" of software (App's) and, what I call "spy-ware" on it (App's that can send your info, make calls or Internet connections, etcetera, that can cost you a small fortune if not on right Tariff!) that have complete background control over YOUR phone. Being a stickler for doing a proper drain and charge, the battery lasted just a few hours; until I learned how to switch off unwanted running App's that were, as far as I'm concerned "uninvited" and unwanted. Now, after just a few weeks use the battery will not hold a charge and even with all unnecessary App's 'Force Stopped' it drains in under 20 hours! On top of all this, the caller's voice sounds tinny and the camera is crap! I'm demanding a refund and will get something else, no more HTC for me!

  • Hey Guys! I need to ask something. Is there any software avaialable to boost the signal strength of my Desire Z.I keep going in some what low reception areas where I have this problem. ANY ONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT. Android is like a Magic.....Our wish is Android'd command :D Best regards.

  • I've never used HTC phones.. im about to change my phone which is a nokia. Im wondering .. Are HTC phones better than Iphones? I pretty like some of the HTC models like.. the Inspire 4G , Evo shift 4G , Droid Incredible , Desire HD , Desire Z and Touch pro2. My uncle has the Iphone 4 and he said that it was good. Personnally I'd like a phone which has wifi , camera 5MP or better ,card slot up to 8GB or 32GB, fast browsing , good Ram , IM like MSN , Skype and which i can edit documents or read documents such as PDF , DOC , good sound, long-lasting phone , good performance , video calling ( if possible ). I have a crush for full qwerty keyboard too I need all these as i wont be using my laptop much Thanks for replying this . I'm really struggling cause I dont know which one to choose

  • to me this phone is perfect, using it for a few weeks now and no complains at all. fast, easy and good looking

  • I liked the tilting screen on my old N97 as well. I have done without a tilt screen on my Desire Z. Tilt is a nice feature, but not absolutely necessary. I do occasionally use the virtual keyboard on my Desire Z. Sometimes, I just need to type a word or two and don't feel like flipping open the keyboard. I do make more errors, but have gotten much better at using a virtual keyboard over time. I still prefer the physical keyboard when entering more than a few words.

  • Thanks for your fast reply! N97 mini have a better qwerty than the original N97, so I still can not decide if I like Z or not. I liked the tilting screen on N97 mini, and on touch pro 2. I guess I should stay with my "original" Desire, the onscreen-qwerty, Smart Keyboard Pro from the Market with enlarged keys, is ok but I get more errors when typing on it than I would with a hardware-qwerty, (I use it now (and I recomend the free Miren webbrowser)).

  • The hardware keyboard is good. I used to use an N97 (non-mini) and I like the Desire Z's keyboard better. The keys are physically raised and are spaced apart, so you can physically feel each and whether or not you pressed the key. I find you have to press the keys a little harder than on the N97. I have never used the Touch Pro 2, so I do not know how it compares with the Desire Z. In all of those videos that show the loose spring, you will notice that the reviewer does not "accidentally" hold on to the screen part. In my three months of using this phone, I have never accidentally held it that way. The only way you can hold it that way is if you do it "on purpose". No one ever holds the phone this way when operating the phone normally. If you have an N97 mini, just try to pick up your phone and see how often you end up grabbing just the screen. The spring on the hinge is not really tight. This is by design. With a looser spring, it is easier to open and close the keyboard. In comparison, the N97 (and I believe the Mini as well) has a much tighter spring. This makes the keyboard more difficult to open and close on the N97. It also causes that hard snap action once you move the keyboard past part way open (or closed). This is more of a personal preference whether you like a tighter spring or looser spring. When I use the keyboard normally, I am generally sitting upright and looking down at the phone in front of me. In this fairly common position, the keyboard stays open. The only position where the loose spring may come into play is if you are lying on your back and holding the phone above you. You will need to prop up the screen open or gravity will cause the keyboard to close. I don't think this is that big of an issue. I rarely use the phone and keyboard in this position. The times I tried, I learned to prop the screen up and am still able to type without any issues. If the keyboard is closed, there is no position that I normally hold the phone that causes the keyboard to open accidentally. There is enough tension on the spring to keep it closed and when normally grabbing the phone, you would end up grabbing the edge and thus your grip will keep it closed. If you are switching from any other keyboard to this, it will take some time to get used to the keyboard. It took me time to get used to the N97 keyboard. Then it took me some time to get used to the Desire Z keyboard as well. The BlackBerry keyboard I use for work takes time to get used to as well.

  • Is the hardware-qwerty any good or is it as bad as the one on htc touch pro 2 that all reviewers said was so perfect but when I used it it turned out to be impossible to write fast on because I always pressed more than one key because it was to hard to feel the keys and to feel if I had pressed it or not? N97 mini have a good qwerty, but the rest of that phone sucks, and E7 also looks like it have a great qwerty but only 360x640 and 256 mb ram and only Symbian and cost 599 euro. If you watch movies on Z and accidently only hold in the screen part, not the part with the qwerty, will gravity make the qwerty-part drop down and it's weight make you drop the phone? I really want an Android 2.2 with hardware qwerty but I have serious doubts about the qwerty on this one because of my bad experience with htc touch pro 2.

  • Multi touch works.

  • Can we download WMA/WMV9 Player on this phone. Pls Pls Pls guide...

  • yes you have it and also on the market app called astro free....DDD

  • yes you can m8,also there are many apps for this on market

  • htc desire hd or desire z or origional desire??? help me to choose right one pls...price doesn't matters.

  • Can somebody please tell the Multitouch works on desire Z or not.. or like Desrie its a multipoint touch only ???

  • can anybody tell does this phone has document editor. or else how do one get one from Andriod market

  • If u really prefer qwery keyped then go for desire z othewise go for hd. its light weight then desire z. its owesome phone

  • This phone is really spectacular, but I have a question for those who have this. Does the battery life really stays 14h on average daily? If not maybe there is a defect with my handset. Thanks in advance for those who can help me about this.

  • I Completely Agree

  • hey dennis , i want to know that in HTC Desire Z can we record a call whom we are talking..

  • thanks for quick answer... now I'm definitely going to buy it :))

  • This applies only to the home screens. The home screens are in portrait orientation when the keyboard is retracted. If you open the keyboard, the home screens will switch to landscape. The home screens will not switch to landscape if you turn the phone sideways. In most other apps like the browser or YouTube, it will switch to landscape orientation if you turn the phone sideways (without needing to open the keyboard). There are some instances where the display is only in portrait or only on in landscape and that is application specific. For instance, if you play Angry Birds, it will always be in landscape.

  • Hi myho, I typing this on my own HTC desire Z as we speak, the keyboard does NOT have to be open in order for you to go in landscape mode to watch videos or play games etc. Hope this clear things up.. I've had this phone for a bit over a month now and there isn't any problems at all. Keyboard hinge is not loose or anything. Great phone. Nice quality. HTC rules!

  • It's auto rotate to landscape mode no need to open qwerty key board for this.

  • suprice me everytime this phone i love it

  • The only thing I want to know, before buying this phone, is this: In reviews I've read that the screen flips to landscape only if the keyboard is open/out... now, I don't really mind, but it seems kinda stupid to watch videos with keyboard open...so...does the screen flips to landscape, if I want to watch a movie or play some game? thanks

  • I am very confused between Desire Z and Desire HD. I would prefer a qwerty. Please guide

  • Hinges are pretty sturdy. I've had mine for 3 months now and the hinge mechanism showed no signs of weakening. I even dropped mine yesterday on to hardwood floor and the phone and hinge still works fine.

  • depends cause America has CDMA as well and is carrier dependent.

  • Are the hinges delicate? Thanks

  • i think the battery is good. I had N900 before, now thats short battery life... Ph eh.. Did you buy your DZ in manila? How much??

  • An option is the Motorola Milestone 2. Faster proc but weaker GPU. If i was buying again i still chose the Desire Z, every time.

  • 3G HSDPA 900 / 2100 HSDPA 850 / 1900 - North America Can anyone clarify on the above does this mean there are there 2 different options for 3G or does this phone have/support all the above frequencies?. Reason - I need a 3G phone which will work in both the UK and USA so needs to support them all.

  • I am defo getting one due to there is nothing else to compare it with? in other words its the only big android with proper keypad.

  • This is one of the better catagory fones for battery life..I get mine friday according to shipping quotes,

  • Yeah. Canada. Land of locked phones.

  • Here are some things to know.It has the new adeno gpu which equates to 4-5 times as fast as the old 200gpu. It completed the sunspider javascript benchmark in 7 seconds. Apple iphone sunspider test 10 seconds, nexus 2 6 seconds, htc desire 7 seconds, nokia n8 failed completly just crashing out with 10 attempts, samsung galaxy s 15 seconds, htc wildfire 58 seconds.and their were others in the test.

  • This is an awesome phone. I wish there was a front camera as well :)

  • yah, me too. i can't seem to find any equalizer apps... boohoo...

  • Everything on the desire z is fantastic except the battery!

  • Use automatic task killer to extend batery life

  • Awesome phone It is so easy to use

  • its not the problem with ur battery..... its the apps thatz running on ur phone reduce ur battery life....so use the software called KILL APPS that will help u to save the battery life......i want to know about the overall performance can u help me out??????????

  • Right thats it we are all off to Canada.haha..

  • I'm from Canada. I find our internet speeds to be pretty good. I rarely every have issues while looking at videos either on WiFi or my carrier. I'm not sure exactly the speed rating, but it's good enough that I don't care enough to find out.

  • After my last input i find out my sister has had one for 2 weeks. She said it sthe best fone shes ever had.On that basis i am getting one for defo.I have desire so know the way it works.I have wanted qwerty since got desire ,cannot get accurate with touch screen typing. I want it now but have to sell desire first.

  • Yes i agree its only if something really interferes with what your doing things cause trouble. I dont know what part of the world you live ,i am uk,but web speeb needs to increase massivly.Things get bad here on landline broadband and the mobile networks.Often i have to switch to 3g to get a web signal or vice versa ..Also here in uk we have bbc news live on your laptop but often i cannot even play that fluently due to poor speeds..I have an 8Mb/s connection "haha" more like 1Mb/s maximum.:-(

  • hi i am using this phone for last couple of weeks only on problem i am facing is the battery. my battery goes down by the evening. i never hear music or movies.is it a problem of the battery??? any one can help me??????? otherwise the phone is superb.....

  • The test I did was by no means scientific. I heard of these issues and have noticed the signal indicator drop in that one room before. I didn't do any real measurable or repeated tests on speed. I just noticed it loaded in a reasonable amount of time. Just from my personal experience, any signal drop did not adversly affect me in my environment.

  • Remember when Apple were lying about their signal strength well i can still send an SMS with no signal to 1 bar on my E75..What i am saying is its like battery meters they are not accurate..Its very hard to really test whats going on in real time without expensive equipment. So these indicators are just that an indicator and only when it says no signal is it accurate that the signal is gone. My laptop on my bed says FAIR signal strength on WI-FI yet i move off the bed and get full strength.I think its the bed springs causing signal drop,BUT,in each case i can still browse the web it has no real cause for concern. The problem is some people go out of their way to cause signal drop whereas in reality we would not do such things. The only adverse effect of signal drop is a shorter battery life or a speed drop.

  • I did a test where I cover the side of my phone that causes my WiFi signal indicator to drop to just the dot with no arcs. I had to go to a corner of my house for this to happen. Even so, I am still able to surf the net. I went to various pages on this site and it still loads. I did not notice any significant drop in speed either. This would indicate that although signal strength is lower, it is still able to connect.

  • How you like the tension of the spring in the hinge mechanism tends to be more personal preference than practicality. I have used both the Desire Z and N97. I prefer the tighter spring of the N97 for the feel. However, I have never had any problems with the Desire Z's hinge after using it for almost 3 months. Most of the criticism I have seen regarding the DZ's hinge are not things you would really encounter in practice.

  • When holding the phone with the keyboard open, covering the left side of the keyboard will result in the WiFi signal strength to possibly drop a couple of bars. I only notice this when I am in a part of my house far from my router. Even though I lose bars on the indicator, I have never had issues with connectivity to the internet. I have not experienced losing the signal completely.

  • A fantastic comment and often these techgroups have the fone in for review for a few days put it thru its paces and thats it,up goes the comment..The big,big other item to highlight "gsm arena too" is that fones get updated and its rare for gsm arena to go back and retry a smartfone after a big update. So for example someone comes on here looks at the review,, they make an opinion not knowing that in the past 2 -36months its been upgraded numerous times. This should also be taken into account never mind all the super modding and custom ROMS that are available.

  • Stop voting the Z down its a fantastic bit of kit.It is packed to the hilt with tech .

  • I confirm that wifi reception is affected when holding horizontally the phone with left hand covering (completely) the top of the phone. This is the usual position when typing with the keyboard extended. I experience a change from -85dbm (almost all bars) to -89dbm (1 or 2 bars). When near the wifi hotspot, it does not matter. When then wifi signal is poor, it may be an issue. The effect depends on how much you are covering. Nevertheless, my impression is that every phone has a position where the reception is affected. You can try to hold your current smartphone in different positions and verify this. 3G reception does not seem to be affected.

  • I want to talk about screens and what people mean by them. A good screen is one that in sunlight its readable to answer tweets or reply to email,it does not mean you can watch a video and see all glorious vivid colours. The next screen is what some describe as passable meaning if you cup your hand round screen you should be able to read it. Then there is the worst screen ie moto x720 which i had for 4 dats before sending it back..These screens are more use as a mirror than a screen and completly useless. Its now 2011 and there is no excuse for this poor quality even if a fones cheap..Whats the use of having a mobile used for outdoors when it does not fullfill its purpose??? I mean do they test these mobiles in the CEO"S office and pass the quality.. I use my smartfone outdoors mainly and i expect therefore good screen, earpiece quality, battery, reception and microphone components.Yes i may use my mobile at home sometimes but mainly i use home fone and laptop. These work for what they are built for so i expect my mobile to work outdoors for whats its supposed to do and be a mobile phone. Talking of quality HTC are bad i know with crud mikes, speakers and cameras but there is not many qwerty smartfones about. There is n97 and s/e vivaz pro but they are slow and bad.Plus the E7 has no card slot no autofocus so only high specification option is desire z.

  • I am near to upgrade and following the desire z comments with intrigue. Things are starting to pick up but giving some time for others to chip in with their comments first .Desire Z is what i have been wanting in android as other androids with hardware type qwerty are poorly specced..Hope this htc model cuts it else i see a long long wait ahead for the other makers of mobiles to release a qwerty android with hi-spec..

  • i wanted to buy this phone, had checked out from the shope but still hesitate whether is good to buy. 1. very heavy phone of 180g but compare as compared to samsung galaxy s i9000 / which i also consider 2. i read the revies and said this desire z have a receiption problem which mentioned in many users comments. any one that using this phone please suggest whether u really have reception problem. if yes, i will switch to Samsung galaxy s

  • I thank you for your efforts mainly because i am a newbie and forums can put you down and make you feel small.I have desire and put up with no qwerty hard keys so z version is what i want to get next.I do miss equaliser so hope they work but i want to ask is Z faster than normal desire with it only being 800mhz? thanks Ella.

  • I have spent years looking for equalisers on handsets and srs wow sound..Now this past week i spent 9 hrs searching for equalisers ..Heaven forbid if you ask in a android forum they just take the mickey and tell you to search yourself.Great help they are in these android forums that you have to join,,some get quite nasty towards anyone asking for help,,seems if your not a tweaker or geek you just get ridiculed.. Heres the link and yes it took me 9 hrs to get this help and its the best i can find,

  • I will try again to post a link to the 9hrs of abuse i got off android forums to my findings myself on android equalisers.

  • I have spent 9 hrs looking for equaliser apps for android and cannot post my findings

  • the only thing i don't like about the desire z's music player is that it doesn't have an equalizer. hope android can come up with an application for this to compensate.

  • in the Philippines, it cost around Php24-25k. speaker: not so loud. headset quality: good. u can use it as a music player coz it has coverflow effect like the ipod. so far my phone doesn't hang. battery quality's reasonable for standby with minimal usage. it last about two days for me coz i use it often in making calls.

  • the reviewers at gsmarena has not lived with a side sliding keyboard fone for month after month after month. If they had then they would know that spring-assisted mechanisms are a pain to use, and that Desire Z was heavensent for sideslider addicted people like me. Its perfect, the very very best. Look at the Milestone 2 review here, they list the slider as a disadvantage coz its not spring assisted. GSMArena dont know what they are talking about, they take a fone and test it for a while, not going through months and months of heavy usage like we addicts do. Ofcors the lack of a spring on Milestone2 is an advantage when you open/close a few hundred times a day. An aggregate SQL query on my N900 shows that i typed at average half a million characters MONTHLY, now how many times a day did i open and close it? Sorry i trust my own experience over someone who grabs a fone and use it a week and type a few thousand characters on it, GSMarena is 100% wrong about how a keyboard mechanism should be, their love for springs is a misconception caused by lack of REAL LIFE experience.

  • The ultimate phone with good battery backup &lot of features

  • The screen is OK outdoors. It is readable. You just need a few moments for your eyes to adjust. The screen is fairly reflective, so you may need to adjust your viewing angle a bit if there is something bright behind you. The keyboard is good. With all keyboards, you just have to get used to it. I type a little faster on my old N97 keyboard because there are more punctuation characters you can access without pressing the shift/function key. Headphones sound pretty good.

  • why cant my desire hd rotate the main screen like this can i prefer to use phone side ways and it cant be hard to put on desire hd as well...

  • Hi all! Can Desire Z users comment on some things for me? How fast does this phone seem, compared to the original desire? Is the screen good for outdoor use, like while walking down the street in the sun. Is the keyboard good for quick typing while in bed, and what's the sound like using earphones?

  • Thanks...I am thinking to get this over desire hd.

  • I have emailed htc uk to see if srs wowhd can be added,i would give them 20 quid extra to add it..It so annoying and consistent that manufacturers take two steps forward and three back. Its only software ,,aaarrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh ..

  • the video quality aint that bad, check some youtube movies. and the screen works perfect on bright light, also the colours are rly nice, i dont see why do you have a problem with a screen.

  • No equalisers???? why did they not put in the srs and dolby enhancement in z..For goodness sake its one damn thing after another, why dont they put these things in whats wrong with htc..Thjey charge the earth for these fones as well..

  • I am still debating as to purchase desire z smartphone because of bad video recording report and screen colors.I am also going to see if outdoor visibility is good in bright light. their are few options to have qwerty installed on smarphone cellphones which is not good.I think they should cater for the qwerty fans.Thank You.Rico.

  • What about the dodgy video recording issue being choppy,,has this been resolved??thanks its the only thing stopping me buying it tommorow.

  • The issues with the hinge are overblown. I have had it since November and never have any issues with the hinge and I use the keyboard almost all the time for entering text. The fact that it does not lock in place is generally not an issue. When using the keyboard, you're generally going to hold it in a way that the screen doesn't flip up. The supports seem solid enough as well. They perhaps look thin, but they feel like they are made of some really hard metal when I touch them.

  • hi, how is the hinge? GSMARENA has quoted about the loose hinge...

  • I have been using the phone for about 10 hours now. I like the phone, the weight does not bother me, i rly liked the contact tranfer option from the previous phone, because the SIM card could not store all of mine. The phone is rly responsive and all, but gave me some hard time, since i'm using android for the first time. i could do just anything but send text messages. not long ago i figured out that my service center number was not correct, so i fixed it, and it works now. i have another issue tho, from time to time i get a popup about smsing to a group named after my hometown. i'm not rly sure what's that about, but probably the effect of synchronizing stuff from mail/facebook and other stuff. it hasnt send any smses, so i dont rly care. and it doesnt popup while i have the wireless turned off. the camera is nice also, the fps on the video seems to be dependant on what i was recording. seems to work a bit better when the amount of things in front of the camera in smaller. photos are sharp, flash is great, the hinge is working perfectly, overall i rly like the phone. the only thing that upset me was the stuff with smses, which took me some time to fix.

  • Have this phone about three weeks now. It's a really good phone, lots of options, quick and confortable. It's pretty heavy, but that's not a problem for me. The only issues I have, is that the keyboard isn't the most comfortable one (had N97 on wich less press power was required), and the batterylife (almost an entire day if I don't use it too much), plus it uses a lot of data very easy (wich is an issue if you have a data limited subscribtion like me). Otherwise it works smooth, no hinge problem (it's overrated), it's fast, and user friendly.

  • i'll write something about it tomorrow. i bought the phone this evening, now it's in the 16h long charging phase -.- btw when it comes to the z hinge... first i tested a phone in a shop. the keyboard moved rly fast and made a not too comfortable noise when it hit the bottom of the screen. but they had one of the early versions of the phone. when i tested mine, it moved rly smoothly, and didnt make any noise when i open the keyboard. as i said, now the phone is still charging, they told me that the battery reaches max capacity after 10 chargings, so i probably wont be able to comment on that anytime soon. but i'll tell you about the rest of my experience asap.

  • @ charles : register at HTC Sense

  • try overclocking for increased performance.techs say that it can run about 1.33 GHz and more.

  • htc desire z brings you a nice experience and it delivers good performance.

  • I want to buy I sack of this phone.. Because it so Very Cheap compare to rotten potatoes...

  • I want to buy I sack of this... How much is this?? can anyone tell?

  • could u share ur exp ? thx

  • camera seems to be a bit better on galaxy s, and i hear that loudspeaker isnt too great on desire z. not sure about the headphones tho, because i still have to buy this phone. and i'll probably buy it today :)

  • hi guys. how is the music playing via headphones? can we use it instead of mp3 player ? and how is camera quality ? in comparison with galaxy s in terms of camera and music playing which one is better ?

  • hey frenz, urgently need ur suggestions. i m confused between bb torch and desire Z. Which is to go for n which has better battery life...? plz reply, thanx in advance.

  • The price in Canada without a contract is $500.

  • with my operater it costs 380 + you have to subscribe and pay 10 each month for 2 years. and it's a bit under 600 if you buy it without subscription. btw can any1 compare the sound quality of the loudspeaker to the one of P1i?

  • price in mumbai is 24k with bill

  • Actually exact price in INR...

  • Can anyone tell me what is the price of desire z..??

  • i just bought this phone as a birthday gift for myself. sure it's quite expensive, but i really think that it's worth the expense. i agree with the others that the loudspeaker is not that great. but it's not poor either. camera quality is really good (with the effects and all). as for the applications and functionality, i still need time to explore it. Generally, i think this phone is worth the money. If you have tips on how to maximize and improve the usage and performance of desire z, please feel free to post it for others to read.

  • thx for the answer, my main reason why i want this phone is also the keyboard. i'm just too used to p1i, and i like to be able to blind type (hold the phone under the table during lessons without the professor noticing, which you cant do without a keyboard). I will probably get used to the weight, because my old phone was also much lighter than p1i. So once again, thx for the tips, this phone will be mine in 2 days :D.

  • I carry my Desire Z in a holster, so it doesn't rattle around. I do use the keyboard a lot and so far after two months, I do not notice any degradation of the hinge at all. I don't know what the battery life on a Galaxy S is, but the Desire Z's battery life now seems greater than the first couple of weeks I had it. It seems that modern batteries when brand new does not have as long a life as if they are used for a month. As for the camera, the Desire Z has a flash, where as the Galaxy S does not. You can always compare the specs of the various phones on this site. The reason I got the Desire Z was because of the keyboard. It does end up adding some weight to the phone. So far, I haven't had any issue with the weight other than the fact that it does feel heavier. I can still hold it comfortably and without tiring any more than my old phone which was lighter.

  • Hey guys, i'm buying a new phone in a few days, and i still cant decide which one to buy. I was thinking about Desire Z, Galaxy S and Desire HD. My favourite has always been the Desire Z, but i was scared about the quality of the hinge, and i dont like low battery time (Galaxy S's battery lasts much longer). I always take rly good care of my phone, i've had like 6 phones so far and only the current (P1i) has a scratch, because it fell of my brother's bag once... Now back to Desire Z. I am not afraid it would scratch in my pocket, because i always keep keys and other stuff in the other pocket. The thing i'm afraid might happen is the hinge getting loose. Imagine having this phone in the pocket every day for 2 years. This makes it about 700 days. And if you make at least 1km each day, with 1m long steps, that makes 700.000 steps in 2 years. And with each one, the hinge should loosen up a bit... That is my opinion, please prove me wrong, so i can buy this phone in a few days. The reason why i way considering buying Desire HD was mainly because it doesnt have the hinge. And the price difference is only 20. And the reason why i'm thinking about Galaxy S is the longer batery life and better camera. And it weights much less and SAR value is a lot lower.

  • It has Core i7 980X... :E Now for real... CPU is new 45nm/800MHz, Qualcomm MSM 7230

  • I think the sound quality is OK. The loud speaker is poor. I don't understand how you can get neck pain. I hold it with my hand, not my head. If the weight is an issue, it would tire out my hand or arm rather than my neck. What do you mean by radiation? Do you mean heat? The only orientation issues I know is with the Facebook app where the main menu has no landscape mode. Everywhere else, the orientation works. If you are referring to the home screens, you need to open the keyboard to switch to landscape orientation for the home screen only. What do you mean by intelligent alarm functions?

  • I've bought this model in 1st week of Dec/10 after waiting for 4-6 months. so anyone can imagine how curious I could be. After my first month's experience I can suggest HTC to STOP the production of this model though it is very feature rich but its not impressive at all on basic features and very sensitive model: 1) Sound quality is very very poor ( except on headsets); better do not talk about speaker phone quality. assume feature is not available. 2) I got severe neck pain because of weight of the phone 3) also felt heavy radiation like feeling in ears 4)orientation between portrait and landscape based on device orientation doesn't work properly. 5)No intelligent alarm functions. 6)Suddenly keyboard connector came out 2-days back and display is not working. I got shocked as I donot use keyboard also much. Phone is useless now display is not working. I do not have any clue how to get it repaired in Hyderabad-India as this model is not yet released here and HTC says I need to send it to HTC-U.K only where I've bought!

  • thx for the suggestion... i really plug in properly... i tried on my laptop wit the headset... n the same result... the left side juz doesn't sound... i'll go to the shop when i'm free... thx anyway... love my desire z... XD

  • Reception quality is the same as with my old Nokia N97. My carrier (Bell Canada) has a few dark spots in my local mall and they appear to be the same with both phones. Other than these areas, reception is fine.

  • Has anyone who has this phone ever had reception issues? I have an original desire on orange and reception is terrible, but ive been told its down to the phones build. The review on gsm for the desire says reception is perfect, but for the z says it can be poor :/ i love HTC, and really like the look of z, but i cant get it if it has poor reception. Any light on this subject is welcomed

  • Does this phone contain GPU? And if yes, what GPU does it have?

  • I don't have any problems with my ear phones. I suggest you try another set of ear phones and then try your HTC ear phones on some other device. That way you can determine if the problem is with your ear phones or with the phone or phone jack. Also, ensure that you have it plugged in properly. If you do not plug it all the way in, you will have issues.

  • i juz use this phone for 2 days... n juz started to try on the earphone... i plug in the earphone the 1st time, i cannot hear anything from the earphone... but the volume of the phone become smaller... after that, i unplug n plug back... i can hear from my earphone... the problem is, it only got sound on the right side... left side i heard ntg... i press pause/play on the earphone n play back, the earphone became no sound, but the phone having smaller sound... anyone face this problem?

  • i've only had this phone for 2 hours and absolutely love it. i exchanged my nokia n8 for this phone and im so glad i did. compared to this the n8 is rubbish (more the symbian OS than the handset itself). still need to experience what the battery life is on this but so far everything else is superb. the screen is absolutely fantastic. vivid and bright. i have a iphone 4 and now this phone both good in their own ways but definately very comparitive to each other

  • absolute a good and very fast mobile. almost unlimited options / programs due to Androit market. very happy with it

  • Have had this phone since November. Great functionality, runs the android OS smoothly. Looking forward to the 2.3 update. Accelerometer is sharp and the touch sensitivity is excellent. I recommend it highly.

  • Try removing the battery and cleaning the contacts. This is more to eliminate the possibility that dirty contacts is causing the issue.

  • Hello Desire Z users! Greetings from sunny Bulgaria. Thanks for your advice oldpapa. I didnt do anything. Its not my job to make something that isnt made on the right place. On Monday I went to the representation, and they made what they need it to made - refuse (I'm not sure that's the right word. they returned in HTC, "not working, and can't be repaired")...from a couple of hours I'm with brand new one :) I hope I will not have any problems with it!

  • any result with my suggestion about your self switching off desire Z ?

  • Coool, this why when dealing with phones, just deal with it like if you r dealing with the prettiest lady in the world. I have order my Desire HD from HTC Dubai & might get it today. Ciao

  • I've been using it since the beginning of November. I am also a heavy user of the physical keyboard. I have never had any issues with the hinge. It opens when I want it to and closes when I want it to. It seems as good as the first day I had it.

  • no problem till now

  • not that i am an expert or anything, if you want to access emails on your device even remotely, go for the bold 3. if you are never going to use your device for emails, then desire z makes sense however, be aware of the fact that there are a lot of limitations in terms of usability if you do not have a bb account. if that can be taken care of, nothing like it. i have used other htc phones and am absolutely in love with the bold 3 (white :-)). phones like desire are like fad's which go in and out however, you can trust candy bars every time. but again, thats my opinion.

  • I have successfully flashed virtuous ROM to my HTC G2.Its SUPER FLUENT and responsive. :) Thanks to XDA developers.

  • Hey guys ... i'm new to this forum so need few details esp on the Z hinge. This phone is out for a couple of months now and I'm sure there would be lot other people who have already owned this beauty. People who are heavy users of the QWERTY keyboard will be able to provide an insight on the quality of the Z-hinge. It would be really useful to other if you could let us know your experience so far about the hinge (if it's loose or still holding up) after heavy usage of the physical keyboard or if you finding a huge problem because the hinge failed Peace

  • SAR = Specific Absorption Rate?

  • Dear Friend There is no difference between Taiwan and China build HTC phones, that is for sure not the point. A suggestion I want to do to you is follow, switch the batterie from yours and your mom's desire and see what happens. also try to clean with a little contact spray the contact points of the battery and the phone (use a very little spray, so for sure the spray can't enter inside the phone.

  • Opera Mobile does not support Flash content. You will have to use another browser that does support Flash.

  • Does any one know the sar (self absorbing radiation) for this phone in uk?

  • dont use opera on android. opera douest support flash. use the stock android browser.

  • Hello, i'm thinking of which phone i should get. Desire Z or a bb bold 9780. any advice/suggestions? Thanks!

  • The HTC Desire Z is pre-installed with Android 2.2, 8Gb SD card also included in the package in some countries, G2 does not have FM radio but Desire Z has. All apps readily available at the Market.

  • I've installed Adobe Flash Player 10.1 but I can't see flash and java content on Opera Mobile. Does anyone knows where is the problem?

  • Hi Desire Z users... greetings from Bulgaria. I have the phone from 16/12. On the 2nd day, (before installing anything from android market) the phone was turning off by itself, and to turn it on, I had to remove the battery and put it again. I didnt went to the shop immediately, I thought was normal (stupid, I know). But from time to time, the same. On 30/12 I finally went to the shop, and they told me to make master reset. I did it, and less than 24 hours after that, the same. I went again in the shop, they send me to the representation of HTC for Bulgaria. I went there and they took it for service (they use ). The representation told me that, they will not give me new one, even if they have to change every part of mine. I took it yesterday (10 days was in the service). They told they made upgrade/update ROM+software..something like this... anyway, a couple of hours ago, the same :'( I cant find the right word to say what I feel now...furious is little word. Mine HTC is made in China. My moms (the same phone) is made in Taiwan. They are bought on the same time, from different stores. My moms phone, up to now, no problems. I gave 535 euro, and I wanted working phone, why have to be so hard?!?! :'( I just needed to say my pain...Sorry :'(

  • can desire z be upgraded to 2.3 gingerbread????????????????????

  • just got my desire z in hk, but at one of those independent phone stores. is there a way to check from which country my desire z was made for? i'm pretty sure i didn't get the official hk version. is there a way to check? thanks

  • Anyone knows when the gingerbread update will be available for desire z?

  • i have had the phone for 2 days know and is the best phone i have ever had and i have had a few. the qwerty keyboard is great and the phone flicks so effortlessly between poitrate to landscape and then to qwerty pad. also the phone feels so well built compared to the plastic galaxy s. have been looking at a new phone for about a month know and was cosidering desire, desire hd galaxy s, but had not even looked at this until about a week ago had a go with a real one not the useless dummy phone on the wall in the shops and fell in love with it from the get go. since then i have not even looked at another phone. it is the best all rounder for me and is great for people that type alot like me.

  • 10x a lot i bought it today , its amazing

  • Dear Johannes, if there is something in life you need to ignore, than it will be the voting results on this site. some people are faking ratings of some devices by voting many times 0 or 10. This is a top mobile, no need to care the voting results

  • just have this phone a few days, it is a little heavy but it is ooo so fast. battery life about 2 days is acceptable. do not care the 800Mhz processor, it is a common issue in the pc world as well that the CPU speed is going down again, this has nothing to do with loosing calculation speed for the device as the processor types are different (new technologies ) what makes higher speeds can be reached with lower cpu. This Desire Z is faster as the original Desire

  • It is already running Android 2.2, you have android market for the applications, even thou it is 800 Mhz, there is no problem in overclocking. On warez-bb.org, just type android in the "searh" section, and voila, you have more than 4000 thousand apps, payed and free, for FREE!!

  • You mean like this guy at 1:55 of the first video?

  • I dont unerstand why this phone get not so many points Its better then the desire Hd believe me because i got both faster brighter and the qwerty is just perfect

  • yes

  • GET.THIS.PHONE it is pure excellence, be loving to the Z-Hinge, also DivX playback ;)

  • I was supposed to get a galaxy s for Christmas but was able to talk to a salesman who told me desire htc is much better. I did my research and fell in low with the phone but instead of getting am htc desire I got this baby. I love everything in it although I rarely use the attached keyboard because I found it comfortable to text using the screen. The only complain I have is that the battery doesn't last more than a day. Nevertheless it's perfect!

  • hey guyz im planing to buy the desire z,can i have some infos for examples : can i upgrade the android software up of 2.2,micro sd is included or i need to buy it ? This have a radio fm?how and from where can i download applications?plz answer me i need these infos 10? :)

  • hello friends i m plannin to buy htc desire z instaed of going for galaxy. so please suggest me the good phone so that it will be helpful for me to buy. please everyone

  • Hi Desire Z owners! I wanna ask how much free ROM Storage at fresh boot. Is 1.5GB correct?

  • it's only been out for a couple months, so no, no one that's had it for more than a couple months can answer your question.

  • I stopped looking at the rating a long time ago when I realised it was just a popularity contest and people just bullet vote. I don't think that the majority actually votes anything other than a 1 or a 10. Just look how all results for design features and performance seem to be exactly the same for practically every phone.

  • The hinge is titaium so i thnk its strong enough

  • yes it is available. but it comes with quick office which is not as good as MS Pocket Office

  • I had a little difficulty with the top row of keys when I first got the phone. Just took some time to get used to the keyboard. Every phone keyboard is different, so whichever keyboard you have, it will take time to get used to. I had the same learning curve with the N97, BlackBerry and on screen keyboard.

  • why the effin ratings of this phone goes down.. from 8.3 or 8.4 last month to 8.0 last 2 weeks and now 7.9.. :(

  • Hmmm...should I get this or the Motorola Milestone 2? Stupid Motorola, locked the bootloader on the Milestone 2...

  • My Desire Z is now a month and a half old and the Z hinge is loose. Very very loose. without any force I could fit the equivalent of two credit cards in the gap on the left whilst it is closed. For a phone thats priced as much as it is, its not particularly good. It also comically resembles a Blackberry storm when its closed as the screen moves when pressed! Otherwise I love the HTC Sense UI, the way the phone works, evereything. Thats why Im getting this repaired and buying a Desire HD.

  • I want to know how much time battery last if you use your Desire Z in routine.

  • The Z hinge is highly impractical. Makes the keyboard way too close to the screen such that you can't comfortably use the top row. Than there was the loose hinge so in the end I sold mine. Made a slight loss but I learnt my lesson. Got myself the Desire HD instead.

  • The Desire Z has a PDF reader included.

  • The phone has only been out for a couple of months, so you will have to wait before people used it more than a couple of months. I have used it for a couple of months already and have no issues with the hinge. The supports are very sturdy as well as the joints where the supports meet the two halves of the phone. I have not noticed any degradation in quality or function of the Z-hinge mechanism in the two months that I have owned it.

  • The DZ comes with Quick Office. I can use it to edit a spreadsheet that I use. I think it has a PDF reader. I'll have to verify it later. I don't often look at PDF files on my phone, but I think I did download one and viewed it on my phone once. I'll get back to you later on the PDF reader.

  • A little info about the Desire Z CPU: It´s as good as the Desire or Samsung Galaxy S CPU´s

  • Is the Z Hinge strong enough ? Someone who used it for more than a couple of months can tell us ?

  • what about document editing and pdf reader.it is availale in desire z ?

  • I find that the legibility of the Desire Z in sunlight was not as good as on my old phone (Nokia N97). It takes a bit for my eyes to adjust to using it in daylight. The screen reflects light rather easily. If the sun is shining on my face, the screen acts as a good mirror. I have to angle the phone as to not reflect anything really bright into my eyes. The N97 doesn't have this problem unless it's the sun itself that is reflecting into my eyes. The N97 seemed to come with some anti-glare coating right on the phone. The Desire Z does not.

  • @Stuntman-thanks a lot for the details on hinge. I would also like to know the performance of display in sunlight/outdoors. is it readable? Other owners are also welcome to share their experience.

  • read other posts, 14year old geeks with no money but dreaming of high end android fones come in here all the time and say 800 is slow, despite the fact that Desire Z scores higher in benchmarks than Desire.

  • hello ,i want to buy this phone but i need to know if it has an pdf reader or not,coz i didnt find that in specs.and the processor is only 800 mega is that means it is slower than the desire, thanks

  • the hinge is not loose at all, the mechanism ensures that it stays in place without needing a spring to hold it there. even a very small inward force will keep it firmly closed, without slack. Im expert in typing on the bed/sofa, it does not fall down while typing, and when not typing u can easily find a grip that prevents it from falling. It will for sure NEVER open in a pocket, its designed to stay closed by itself. remember it expands its "thickness" to maybe almost 1 inch during opening and closing, theres no way it can expand even 1/16 of an inch in a pocket, so it stays closed much better than even NOkias terrible N97 with its superhard superviolent spring. Shame on Nokia, they added a insane spring to keep it firmly closed, and HTC closes better with no spring at all! I have to add it: HTC is really the premium brand now, for such a complex device you should have to expect childhood diseases in software and drivers, but i seen more flaws on very simple nokias, units that are not complex enough to forgive flaws. When compared to SGS there is only one verdict or the Desire Z: Flawless.

  • Hi Desire Z owners. I wanna ask how much free ROM at fresh Boot? is it 1.5 GB?

  • The tension of the spring is low to allow easy opening and coming of the keyboard. There is some tension on the spring to prevent it from accidentally opening. So far, it has not accidentally opened on me the two months I have owned it. As for holding the phone while lying on your back, you will have to prop the screen open with a finger to keep the keyboard from closing. On those rare occasions where I use the phone in this position, I did not have much difficulty typing while holding the phone this way. I rarely hold the phone that way because my arms will get tired regardless of whether or not I need to enter text. Most of the time, if I am using the phone, the position of the phone is at the same level or lower than my head.

  • I've heard some people say that this 800MHz processor that is made from the new 45nm technology performs better than the older 65nm 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Is this true? And can it handle heavy 3D games without lag?

  • How much loose is the hinge? Is there any chance of accidental opening of the keyboard when I don't want to open it or while it is in my pocket? Is it possible to use the keyboard comfortably while lying on bed as gravity causes automatic closure of keyboard? I'm fond of this beauty but my only concern is the HINGE. Hope to get proper feedback.

  • Why do you feel the current processor is inadequate? I find the performance of this phone to be quite good.

  • Its 2nd gen, and HTC software is superior to LG/Samsung. just look how slow an unpatched Galaxy S is? And the patches dont come from samsung, they dont care, they always sold flawed fons and did quite well. Coz low skill users and the grey mases dont care, they will not notice, they onli see the Specs on the paper and lives happily ever after. R u one of them? performance is worthless if the fone and the software isnt well made, HTC is dong a much better job, its incredible that so advanced units can have so few software issues. Samsung and LG just want to push out high specced fones, they dont care about issues or after sales services. Thats ok for a non-advanced user, but if u r an enthusiast u wil notice and you will suffer.

  • well i was going to get the phone but naw im not sure and im thinking of getting the lg optimus black or x2. htc got it wrong by not putting a 1gh snapdragon processor god why didn't they

  • A large proportion of our development team own this device. I can tell you that it is easily overclockable to a safe and STABLE 1.5Ghz, making it quicker than any other handset I've used. On another note, check out villainrom.co.uk for a custom Gingerbread ROM, out now. Forget waiting ;)

  • yes its possible..

  • I have both Desire (2.2) and Desire Z (2.2.1), i have benchmarked both with Quadrant and Desire Z gives me more points, always! So no problem if they bring Gingerbread to Desire Z ;)

  • Both the Desire HD & Desire Z will be up-graded to 2.3, but to HoneyComb ( 2.4 or 3.0 ), i doubt. Regards

  • I wanted to buy this phone but the processor gives me a doubt if this will be upgradable for at least 3.0. at least Desire has 1Ghz processor which has more chance to be upgraded to 2.3 and 3.0.

  • yes it can far as im aware, most of the newer school phones are capable of supporting gingerbread. most things with a 1gig processor should support gingerbread.

  • yeah i got the real phone now form which i can do many nthings

  • Can this phone update to 2.3 or 3.0? i'm having 2.2 galaxy S and now wanna switch to HTC , and need to check whether this desire Z can upgrade to 2.3 or 3.0? Thanks,

  • I'm not sure about attachments within MS Office documents, but the DZ can open and edit these documents. As for push mail, it is only for Gmail accounts. For other email accounts, it polls them. The is a way to get push mail with other accounts. What you have to do is forward you other account to Gmail. Then when your other account receives email, it will instantly forward to Gmail and then you will instantly get it pushed to your phone. I do that with my email and it is as fast as my BlackBerry.

  • Hi stuntman, I have a question , I saw this beauty recently & I want to own it but my concern is wether it will open the attachments that are in power point, excel , wordstar, pdf & photographs , just like my blackberry does, if yes how? Also will it be as fast as the blackberry for push mail srevice. Kindly reply,

  • you celebrated the new Year with Desire Z. How nice......:)

  • I buy this HTC on 1st jan 2011..this phone really great..especiallyduring surfing internet..no lag and fast..like using pc..

  • Hey guys, I have just got the HTC Desire Z a few days ago and I have absolutely no problems with it. My previous phone was an iphome 3G S and this phone is much better. As far as the battery life is concerned, it lasts me a full day. HTC FTW!

  • 1)- Yes, it will be upgraded to Gingerbread. 2)- It has 3G. No video call due to lack of secondary camera. 3- yes.

  • Hey Guys, I am planning to buy HTC DESIRE Z. I am from India > Bombay. I have few questions in my mind which i would like to ask to the people who own this handset or the ones who have idea about ANDROID os. 1) The device comes with Android OS, v2.2 (Froyo). Should the OS be upgraded to the latest version GINGERBREAD ? Is this possible ? i want know if the phone can be upgraded for better performance in future.. 2) 3G services are going to be out in 2011 here. So video calling is possible ? 3) Voice Calls Can be made VIA skype using the data traffic ? THanks in Advance... Regards Neo

  • thanks Anirudh and hemant

  • 3rd Jan 2011 according to Flipkart.com

  • Hi Aman, The phone should be available on Flipkart post the 3rd of January, 2010. The link is as below: Thanks.

  • Manav, check you network setting, if it is in WCDMA Only, change it to GSM or GSM/WDCMA. i had the same issue & changing this helped. ALSO you can enter *#*#4636#*#* on phone dial pad, select phone information, then scroll down to selection box, change set preferred network type to each of the options & see if it helps.

  • Even i was in same delima till i bought this one. I am a Qwerty Fan, so finally opted for this one, but i soon discovered that in screen keyboard of DZ is much good as well. Trust me, even after having a qwerty keyboard, i use on screen keyboard for 80% of times. so HD scores over DZ, and is lighter as well. DZ is 180g which makes it a slightly heavier gadget.

  • THE BEST I ever had, am having this for last 2 months & believe me it is just fantastic. The performance is awesome & it beats anyphone in its range. It has actually replaced my laptop usage by 30-40% for checking emails & basic browsing. i highly recommend it. by the way its available in India through Flipkart.com @ Rs.25799

  • Yea.. the phone is available in India.. on flipkart.. google it.. its available for Rs.26K.. which is a damn good price... im still deciding between this phone and desire HD.. but the pathetic battery life on the HD stops me..

  • Is it available in New Zealand? Whereabouts? Thanks!

  • For those users who got the battery issue pls don't worry about it. I'm also getting the issue and complain to HTC, but there's no issue after that. What can I suspect is the battery is new and causing the problem. After few times charging the problem will be gone. This problem also occur on my cousin Nokia phone last time. Not a big deal after few times charging.

  • Thank you for your advices. With old models of Nokia I had that problem too, and I was putting a peace of paper between the battery and the phone, so the battery not to move..I made the same here on sunday, and up to now its always on. I hope that was the problem :(

  • Guys really we can't make a video call on the DESIRE Z??

  • yes u can

  • I had this issue the first 2 weeks. What I did was take the battery out and then cleaned the battery contacts on the battery and phone. After putting it back in, it seems to have resolved the problem.

  • HI Adriana, that is a bad problem you got there, sory to hear. I had mine 4 weeks and no problems wit that. Check your battery cover. Make sure its closed properly. I doubt that is the problem but its all i can think of. Maybe you need to RMA it.

  • Hi all HTC desire z users. I have mine from 2 weeks, and from time to time its turning off by himself (while the battery is full), someone have the same problem?

  • discussions abt N900 yes, but noone recommending N900 over Desire Z. Im juz saying N900 has a superior OS, but inferior hardware/battery life. N900 is just the best nokia and real linux is way better than Android, but Desire Z is still a much better handset.

  • The new update improved the battery big time maybe 50% better now only thing my phone is not rooted anymore I really love this phone.

  • hey!! Any idea when this device is coming to india?? 'll b really thankful..

  • Ive had this phone for 2 months now, and im still finding new things on here.. without doubt the best phone ive ever had..you cant go wrong with this one, you have all features like the flat roller pad, touch screen and the querty key pad aswell as hd like the iphone 4, but this is light years ahead of the iphone, takeaway the fact iphone is made by apple iphone wouldnt even be about.

  • Hey I wanna ask that is it possible for this phone to do video call even though there is not front facing camera? thx

  • hi all dere ! I've been using this device for the past 3-4 weeks. It is exceptional. Coming from Nokia 5800, S60V5 device, i'm having a different experience altogether. Although i was using SPB mobile shell on my last cell, customization options here are awesome. A lot of discussions are going on regarding its comparisons with N900 but its not realistic. Only comparisons can be made are with android devices. Persons wanting android should go with it. I have used SGS I9000 before, the only real competitor to it. Apart from the screen contrast, vibrancy and front facing camera, SGS pales in comparison with it. Regarding the 800 Mhz processor, it is blazing fast compared to 1 Ghz processor of SGS. There were occasional lags on SGS and for a person who is moving to android for the first time and does not want to root his/her device, this is the best. Sense UI is miles ahead of Touch Whizz. The physical keyboard is good and is not loose. For normal use you wont find the Z hinge a problem. only if you want to find faults, you can find faults with even GOD. The only prob I face is battery life, as I'm tinkering with it most of the times. Hope it helps !

  • awsome product, first android phone and the slide out keyboard is just magnificent.

  • It's my first meeting with an android based device. I had to choose between HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD but I wanted a QWERTY keyboard smartphone for browsing and I'm sure I made the right choice.

  • dear manav stop looking in the web, theres no spiders in the web, you will not find any hope, look to the sky and you may find some hope.

  • For me, this has been a very good phone. I had a Nokia N86 and that was one of the worst phones I have ever had. First of all, Android OS is years ahead of the buggy, bad performanced Symbian. Choosing this phone was not easy. There were few other options, like the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S. - I was close to buying the Galaxy S, but it had some disadvantages over the Desire Z: No qwerty, no LED flash, (no pictures in the dark, or flashlight option..) and the HTCSense is service is only for HTC, of course. :) Cons: - some people may think that the qwerty pops out a bit too easily, not really a problem for me. Accidentally it has never done that - In video recording there is one stupid feature. When it get's darker, the FPS decreases, cause the phone tries to make the video less dark. After all, a great phone. It has advantages over any other smartphone. And qwerty is always usefull. For example when playing games which had not been invented for touch screen, like emulator games.

  • This phone does lots of worth. What kind of worth are you looking for?

  • but it is not yet available in India yet!!!??? i m getin frustated

  • desire hd has poor battery life and and below average under sun screen quality

  • HTC Desire Z receiving new performance update . Read here-http://techtrick24.blogspot.com/2010/12/htc-desire-hd-and-desire-z-getting.html

  • Many people are having issues with Desire Z recently???!!! WHY, Desire HD so far , no issues.

  • *Connectivity Issues Anyone?* Hi! I recently bought this phone after a lot of review and absolutely love all the features. However I have GSM connectivity issues at some spots which didn't exist on my earlier phone. Anybody experienced a similar issue? I am looking all over the web, also contacted HTC but no avail.

  • does this phone worth?

  • I haven't tried the Desire HD.

  • Hi my friend, Do u have any idea whether the sound in Desire z is better than Desire HD or vice versa? Regards

  • I have also already given my opinion in this comment section many times. You can go through the comments to see what I have already wrote which includes my own little review.

  • There is a review of this phone on this site already that is fairly comprehensive. If you have some specific questions that you want answered that is not covered by the review, please feel free to ask them. I will do my best to answer them.

  • Anyone give me opinion of HTC Desire Z?hope anyone was using this phone,so i can more accurate know more about HTC Desire Z. Don't give wrong information please, because i desire to change new phone for next year..Thank you for your advise.Thank to help me out.

  • The hinge is designed to allow easy opening and closing of the keyboard. The keyboard does not open by itself. If you hold the phone normally, and I stress NORMALLY, you would grip the phone on the sides when the keyboard is closed. Your grip and the tension of the spring will prevent the keyboard from opening by itself. I have had the phone since the beginning of November and the keyboard has never opened by itself when I did not want it to.

  • I can type at a fairly good pace. Keyboards on phones are all different in size, feel and layout. I find the layout pretty good as most commonly used punctuation marks can be pressed without having to press a shift/alt key. I like the fact that the keys are spaced apart unlike the BlackBerry. With all keyboards, it will take time to adjust to it. It takes me a couple of weeks to get comfortable with any new keyboard I use.

  • Is the hinge loose as people say it is? I'm worried it may become really flimsy and might open by itself..

  • Can someone tell me how the keyboard is? Is it easy to type really fast or it isn't really that comfy?

  • I have been using HTC handhelds since 2005, i have changed about 10 devices. till now the HTC desire Z is the best one, the phone has everything you need and more. the only drawback is the battery life.
