HTC ThunderBolt 4G - User Reviews

  • Thunderbolt is still a great phone in 2018 and really built for multimedia entertainment, such as Tunein radio via Wifi. That huge speaker on backside really booms with that kickstand !

  • To the "Anonymous" on Sep 06 2018 ... you were quite rude to Her_Day_Tune_G, lots of folks have many reasons to buy discontinued phones that are several years old. I looked it up, in the part of the world that person lives, cells networks are quite a step behind North America and still firmly grounded in 2G & 3G technology, they are only beginning to make headway into rolling out 4G in their larger cities, so such a phone as a Thunderbolt still makes very good sense for persons in that country. Know the facts before you post.

  • Are you joking, you ordered a device 7½ years after its launch??? LMAO!!!!

  • I just ordered for this device but my sim does not work on it. Any hint/help on how to go about it will be appreciated. I'm in Nigeria

  • Honestly, this was the slowest phone I have ever owned. I've had my fair share of "budget phones" from Straight Talk and the like, and this one was the only one I've wanted to slam against a wall out of frustration. I had even factory reset it and re-installed less than 10 apps, and it was so sluggish and unusable I just gave up on it and bought a new one. I don't know how this has good reviews, seriously.

  • i have htc thunder bolt model number ADR6400L but how can i unlock it sim card please advise me?

  • Five years old and still runs like brand new. Don't ya miss the days before planned obsolescence!! Most of my new phones have died out after a little over a year, and everytime I reactivate my Thunderbolt before getting a new phone! :-)

  • "It's not your dream phone, its the one after that" I love my TB. so sad I had to upgrade because the Sirius app wouldn't work with Gingerbread 2.3.4, otherwise I would still be using it. ICS absolutely ruined this phone, to the point I broke it on the ground but I still have my Gingerbread TB to use for a backup.

  • this is a great phone i can play high games like gta sa , gta vc, modern combat 2,3,4 , six guns , nova 3, need for speed most wanted, shadow gun , dues ex , fifa 14, fifa 13,fifa 12 , gangstar rio , gangstar vegas (low settings) , crazy taxi , gt racing 2 , asphalt 6,7,8 , and critical ops now iam going to try brothers in arms 3 and modern combat 5 this phone a good battery life and a great camera , i loved this phone and i wish if htc is going to launch thunderbolt 2

  • i have one here in guyana but too bad i never knew that it only works with verizon/sprint :) But the Phone is Pretty COOL

  • its not your dream phone, it's beyond it. still love my thunderbolt, pretty kicking ass with sturdy kickstand :D

  • Hello Is This device operates on the GSM network in northern Iraq?

  • Are you saying that if there is no sim card in this phone I can use it on a 3g network automatically?

  • CDMA restricts phone to verizon or sprint networks or a MVNO that uses the CDMA networks. You can only buy a 4G LTE SIM for Verizon or Sprint for this phone otherwise no SIM card is used or needed and you will be automatically on the 3G network. Unlock a phone following YouTube video or pay a local reputable cell phone repair shop to handle it. If you have a Sprint phone & want Verizon THEN IF same phone is being used by Verizon sometimes you can find a bored Verizon tech to unlock and/ or flash a 3G phone so it will also work on 4G LTE network with a Verizon SIM.

  • You can purchase 2 types of phones CDMA which work for Verizon and Sprint I believe or GSM which work for T-Mobile, AT&T and internationally. First you need to buy the phone for the network you need. Most T-Mobile/ AT&T phones work on each others network w/o any issues just get the network SIM card and do a scan for the correct network. My friend's phone finds AT&T & T-Mobile networks so she bought an AT&T SIM card and switch to AT&T GO plan from T-Mobile w/o any issues b/c T-Mobile in the Bay Area really sucks for coverage---even inside T-Mobile stores she wasn't getting consistent coverage & they blamed her phone yet she has had zero issues with it on AT&T. Second look up your phone on youtube and it will show you how to unlock for free so you can travel with it outside US. Otherwise you get a CDMA phone for Verizon or Sprint and again go to youtube to unlock it.

  • its possible to use any sim?? how can i unlock it?/

  • I read it can be upgraded to ice cream.

  • how can i unlock it and use it in another carrier?

  • You can use vptcl sim in htc thunderbolt 4G in pakistan.

  • what i like most is the design and bulit quality, my fone is droped from clothes box (1,2m) and its ok.. no crack, no break, and even no stracth at all.. there is no nowadays fone who could survive like that..

  • the htc thunderbolt is an amazing phone never had a better one but then again im only 14. but still amazing ice cream sandwich procesing system good display love the front camera

  • does this phone works in greece????????

  • I love this mobile very nice and features

  • OS 4.xx will work great if you're under-coverage of verizon network. else of it, you'll find that wifi hotspot (tether) doesnt work.. so that i stuck on custom rom 2.3 so bad

  • who can i enable my thunderbolt in pakistan

  • root your fone, use custom rom, and remove that sim card frm sim slot.. you not using vzw service dont ya? you can stuck other number to yer thunderbolt by inject the number

  • You only needed to replace the battery.

  • I can not use my thunderbolt 4G phone with my Nigeria sim is showing me unknown link it was send to me from America (California)

  • Can this be used in the Philippines?

  • Does HTC ThunderBolt support GSM network in Nigeria

  • This phone worked well (1.5 yrs) until I updated it through vzw. After that, nothing but problems. Battery life plummeted, freezes and now I get the following msg: "Activating your phone. Please wait until this process your phone...This process may take up to 2 minutes" Not true, msg is on all day long (I ignore and use it anyway.). Support had me replace the sim card. Ok for less than a week then problem returned. When it worked, I thought this would be my last phone ever. Now convinced the life span is connected to contract (Conspiracy?).

  • Aprox. 4 horas.

  • this is ma 3rd android fone i ever had. even not available on Indonesia, but im really satisfied with this fone capability(kickstand, front camera, dual flash), this fone so unique and blazing fast operational. physically would none of present era fone have such feature. other which mention lag, freeze, restart, error must be poisoned by ads and malware(donwload frm untrusted source), and have very low android knowledge, or bang the fone oftenly lol. battrey will stay 2 days with normal operation(mobile data used properly), 18 hours if keep online, and 5 hours if non stop online and screen never turn off with 50% brightness. suggested ROM : 1.Airborne frm infected forum 2.SoaB frm xda forum 3.Infected eternity frm infected forum 4.NuSenseX frm infected forum (if you interested with ICS stuff)

  • For how long can I watch online movies with one time full charge?

  • that's my question too!

  • does htc thunderbolt 4g lite Verizon, support GSM network?

  • It's not how so good only thing it's havng only 8mp cam.U can choose rhyme it's so good than this...

  • Can this phone work in albania?

  • You are so right, it freezes and I too have to shut down and restart .

  • Regretfully both Verizon and HTC have fallen short of their advertising for the HTC Thunderdud.. Would NEVER by another and after being with Verizon for 18 years I am about to move on from both.

  • i have never had problems with this device been using more than 2 yrs now and has never let me down once...about what was said about thunderbolt not having ics is wrong...im currently running a fully stable 4.0.4 ics rom with everything working...runs smooth with no reboots or any other random problems...if someone wants ics early on theyre device easiest way to go is to root device..once htc pushes official ics update tho i will be using that one but for now currently happy with current setup :)

  • not gonna lie i loved this phone at first but now im on my fourth one! plus we are stuck on ginger bread, i would be happy with ics! the phone is only clocked at 1ghz, not very fast at all. not capable of 1080p recording (not a big deal to me but would be nice) laggy at times, resets itself a lot and sometimes a very frustrating home button. 4g is fast but compared to others it is very slow. im excited to update to the galaxy note 2 (on verizon) which will be updating to jelly bean 4.2 in the first quater of next year!!!

  • The worse phone ever. The phone is 9 months old and has been giving me problems for the past four months. The battery sucks, and they wont replace. HTC/Verizon is the worse.

  • The phone has a lot of great features but freezes every time I try to use them. Must constantly restart phone. It was a bad investment that Verizon wont let me out of. Not sure who is worse, Verizon or HTC

  • I don't know what people are complaining about, this is a great phone. I never experienced any problems except battery life, but having this phone for almost 2 years it is time for me to get the iphone 5. The only thing better about the iphone is they have a whole lot more extra accessories for it.

  • The Thunderbolt has big issues. Not nearly as bad as verizon though. HTC and Verizon support is extremely bogus and disappointing. I feel like They owe us...Lock us into a contract full of hassles, locked in. HARSH. It's a trap and a conspiracy.

  • i use to love this phone but now it's crap ..hate it and htc wont update to fix the problems ..i will never buy another htc product ..going to the droid razr maxx hd

  • unfornutely you got rubish item, my Thunderbolt smooth and working perfectly until now lol

  • WORST phone I have ever owned. Actually the worst piece of technology I've ever owned for that matter. I am an experienced android user that came from an original Droid. Got this phone because it was the first on Verizon's 4G. Terrible battery life from day one, only acceptable way was to turn off 4G (makes sense right?) and set screen brightness very low. GPS was a joke taking FOREVER to get a lock if at all. Then the random reboots started. Anywhere from one every day to five in one day. Next, the right half of the touchscreen stopped responding to inputs so I had to do all typing in horizontal mode. Finally, the power button started sticking and either causing the screen to turn on all the time or causing the "Power off" menu to pop up all the time.

  • Ask your local store dude, not here

  • no

  • Phone has never given me a bit of trouble. Extremely fast on Verizon's 4GLTE network. So fast, I dumped my cable internet at home and use the mobile hotspot feature for my home internet. CDMA and 4GLTE, not GSM.

  • Piece of junk! Hate it! Unreliable!!

  • is it gsm??

  • I started out with the OG Droid. Hit the D2 then the DG then stumbled across an Incredible and it was a game change for me. Soon I worked my way into a Fascinated Then a Charge. After the Incredible, nothing fit or functioned right as a constant use Android device. I tried the X2 for a bit and bounced around my old 3g devices for a while. (Nostalgia), lol. Anyhow...through my trades on Craigslist I obtained an immaculate HTC THUNDERBOLT. The game has changed again for me!!!! I babied it for the first couple weeks but soon grew tired of the same old grind of using a task manager/killer app to destroy ALL of my background apps and processes. I decided too use Revoked an not to flash a custom Rom. My Tbolt is stock and fully bloated. I simply use app quarantine among my Rom manager and Rom toolbox to simply lock the obnoxious bloated ware down from even booting after my Tbolt has came on line and never have an issue anymore. I will screw around on the development forums in my phones browser while listening to tune in radio with netflix streaming on my laptop, my wife's Huawei IDEOS S7 is downloading music and I am also answering text messages and emails about Android device inquiries from me and to me regarding Craigslist. Oh yeah....and my niece are watching sponge bob square pants at the same time in the next room on another laptop. Yeah...You could say this phone is great. It just would not cover it. PEACE

  • I am actually planning to purchase iPhone 4s but when I saw the info commercial of HTC Thunderbolt through YouTube I decide and I decline my interest to purchase iPhone 4s. I make my own research, analysis and I found out that HTC Thunderbolt is the answer to my dream, a dream that needs factual, mobility, conne

  • Absolutely love my htc thunderbolt! Only thing lacking is the dual core processer and hdmi out. But still no other phone comes close to the quality and speed and absolute customization of the thunderbolt!

  • pretty good cdma fone with ruim card. i'm on Indonesia and smartfren EVDO appear once i inject cdma number on it.an ultimate gadget with up to 67Mbps speed

  • can i use this phone here in the philippines?

  • does this work in the Phils?

  • Nice phone, big and mean, but it doesn't work on malaysia mobile network provider. You can't get your call thru... Sad...

  • Does your carrier support the phone frequencies? You need a CDMA or LTE network.

  • 3shan da CDMA welly beyeshta3'al fi masr GSM bas

  • its works only LTE 4G networks...i have one and im waiting for the launch near soon in colombo...

  • Why it will not work in Egypt

  • Giasou paniko, this phone does not work in cyprus,it is not gsm, look for gsm

  • hello.!! does htc thunderbolt works in cyprus??

  • Would this work on Telus? in canada...it uses cdma 2000 too from what i hear... i been trying to make it work for a while now...doesn't seem to work..wanna know if anyone got it to work..

  • When that happens, gsmarena will edit their text BUT for now, it is very helpful that they write it so a prospective buyer can know at a glance if he/she is buying the right phone.

  • No it will not work in Egypt. Do a little research.

  • I need to buy this mobile but i need to now it will be work on network in Egypt or not please i need answer urgent i have in Egypt vodafone company

  • I don't appreciate the bold text that says this is not a GSM device. I say this because technically LTE is GSM and this phone does have a sim. If in the future other carriers use LTE on the 700 band this phone should be able to work on their networks, simply by swapping sims (assuming the phone is unlocked of course).

  • know more information about HTC ThunderBolt 4G at

  • they do have it for GSM networks but i think its under a different name.

  • because its only in CDMA network currently, malaysia's network only in GSM... no point use it in malaysia at the moment..

  • no its cdma network

  • this phone thunderbolt 4g never saw in malaysian , why?

  • I previously had a LG Vortex & I upgraded to the HTC Thunderbolt & I'm extremly happy I did. I had gotten very frustrated with my old phone but the Thunderbolt has been a DREAM, so much so that I hardlhy ever use my laptop anymore. It's so much easier to use my phone! Also its so nice to ultilize otherwise waisted time in Dr.'s waiting rooms, waiting in lines at resteraunts-the bank-or wherever, sitting in s theater waiting on the movie-play-concert-etc. to start to check my emails, pay bills online, checkin on FB, etc- or whatever I would normally have to wait until I got home to do. The Thunderbolt haqs allowed me to manage my time better away from home so that when I'm home I have more FREE time to spend with my family.

  • hi!im wondering if it will work here at philippines??

  • dear friend :-) this is not gsm phone :( this will not work in iran :( . htc desire Hd thunderbolt is same :-) but desire Hd not have faceing camera :( .

  • I had the HTC Incredible, and upgraded as soon as this phone came out. Let me say, everything that bothered me with the Incredible and my husband's original Droid has been fixed with this phone. It is blazingly fast. The screen has amazing clarity. The front and back camera is that best idea out there (thank you iPhone for giving us the idea!), no turning the phone around and having to feel for the "capture" button to try and take a self portrait. The little upgrades to the settings, ringing louder when in a pocket or a purse but quieting once the phone has been touched, the self battery saving once it gets below a certain battery, the kickstand, etc.... it's all amazing. There is actually 4g in my area and when I dialed someone and it IMMEDIATELY went through, I was in awe. The attachments to my email and the ringtones download so quickly, much faster than my home internet. Can't wait to use it as a mobile hotspot (free until May 15th! Thank you VZW!) for all my home devices. Don't get me wrong the only downside is that this thing is a monster in size, but that's what happens when you get this much punch in such a small package. It is basically a tablet. And it's much heavier than my incredible, which took some getting used to while holding it to play on it or talk on the phone. However, I knew this going into it and played with someone's Droid X (same dimensions) to get myself prepared. I am trading the size + weight for so many extras. And to the guy that said it doesn't support NFL mobile, there won't be any football anyway this year, so your NFL app will be pointless. :) just kidding, I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. *** If you will buy this smartphone I suggest at: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004M5HB6U/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=othersitecomment-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399349&amp;creativeASIN=B004M5HB6U

  • finally some sort of java on this phone!! i was wondering when or if they were gonna do something with that. hopefully the price on the verizon market for this phone goes down. very nice phone1 was hoping costco would carry it. thank you htc

  • htc just makes regional phones not for the entire wolds network services.limited not good their only tagreted areas only.......grow up

  • has very good feature can import contacts from any common brand of phonesm, wish all phones has this especially blackberry

  • Single core processors are so 2010, 2011 is all about dual core, htc lives in the past....

  • ok you def dont know what your talking about because htc is really good. samsung has horrible phones and tablets

  • The reason that i got this phone is LTE 4G!!! That's so fast in LA, The download data speed that i have got: between 7-16 Mb/s. Another reason that i got the phone is Verizon LTE Unlimited data plan. It wouldn't be last forever. So i just got it while Verizon offer 4G Unlimited data for $30. *I can even use "Voice and Data simultaneously" just like GSM handsets!!! However, battery life is suck (maybe due to the very fast data speed)!!! U better take home and car chargers whenever u go :(

  • Hello. Friend. I am from Iran. I already had HD desire. Now I want this phone I bought. No I 'm not precious about it. Help me please? desire HD is better / or its

  • Where is the standard 1080p? Dual core processor is basic now, where is it? Still, no match for the premium stuff_Samsung Galaxy 2

  • OK now, HTC have hit a dead end! This is far inferior to Samsung Galaxy S 2, MOT Atrix or LG Optimus 3D! No GPRS, EDGE,JAVA, Dual Core processor! Come 2 think about it, HTC have no dual core processor phone! SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 is the boy to beat! Nobody is doing much about it though.

  • is this nice htc work in midle east?

  • I bought ThunderBolt 4G first day it came out on sale and I love this phone!!! It's very responsive and got 32gb memory card on board.

  • I'd like to hear more about this cow phone, and to subscribe to your newsletter.

  • I alredy got it and is GSM so far very nice!!

  • Hi guys, I just thought I'd give you quick update on battery... I've been running 26 1/2 hrs and its 60% remaining. I have browsed net on WiFi used email and played couple of games. At the moment I'm thinking its the account sync setup which impacts on battery, as have changed setup for updates etc Example Facebook every. 12hrs as I'm at work in day and email every 4hrs as it refreshed when you check it anyway. Using DHD now to write this up knowing my luck its probably 20% remaining :-)

  • why is it not with the dual core cpu? Otherwise it can be more "desire" tunderbolt 4G

  • It's GSM but has 700 only not the standard 900/1900/1800/850

  • No its not, this phone it's cdma no gsm, you can put a sim card in a cow but the cow is not a phone ....

  • this phone is SIM card capable.. it has a verizon SIM card but if u r to go abroad- u may put ur own in.. soo therefore it is gsm

  • any proof :( ? cuz all the benchmarks show otherwise. (OMAP4 > tegra 2 > exynos (aka orion) )

  • orion chipset is better than tegra 2

  • I wanted an HTC for next phone but to compare this to the gs2 atrix and lg3d there is no comparison. So I think it will be the atrix or gs2 as long as the Samsung has tegra2.

  • Can the Thunderbolt sync with Microsoft Office?

  • really off the hook, cant wait to reach my region....

  • i would like to know when htc thundrbolt will be released and especially in Cyprus. I'm interested in this phone and i may buy it. Thank you.

  • The phone is beast.... i have to get it and 4g LTE is gonna be super fastt and yea it has nothing to do with the mytouch 4g..... way betterr

  • Does this phone support Flash? As like in the web page.

  • Are you blind? Look back and judge again.

  • this phone is a useless waste of space and should be burnt like Oliver Giles Baillie the kaff

  • htc is bullshit i dont know y they launch so many models with same specs with no difference and nothing specail

  • The specs make it look just like the Mytouch4G, except it's going to be four months late to the party. :(

  • Very very nice device!

  • nice phone but no java i still go for desire

  • I love this device.

  • 4.3 it's ok but no HDMI, java, what? I'm seriusly thinking in swiching to ATT at least they will have a 4.5 phone. :)

  • Its a sexy phone... Waiting 4 its launch...

  • Cool phone, when will it be released the suspense is killing me!!!!

  • A lot of countries DONT DO GSM.. but they still post here!!!

  • wish it will unlock to gsm~

  • This site is Called GSM Arena.. Key Word "GSM", then why is this phone doing here???

  • Is this beauty coming to Malaysia???

  • Yes i agree after a long time in HTC there is a secondary front camera but No use? as it is only for CDMA.

  • I hope also they do it for 3g, but please let's hope they change the pathetic obsolete LCD screen with super amoled!!!...until HTC will us this "old" tech of screen it will be always behind sumsung and iphone screen tech. ...but let's hope, as we can see it took many years but finally HTC put a front camera on his phones :-), so at least now I can consider to buy a HTC. :-P

  • HTC, Is there chances of this Phone to launch for GSM or not.

  • Well, CDMA is a type of network different from AWS and GSM. It really depends if the phone is locked or unlocked and if the phone supports the band frequency that your carrier(s) use.

  • I think in terms of Snapdragons, MSM CPU seems to run smoother than QSD CPU.

  • OK then which CDMA network will it work on actually if CDMA fone can be disassociated with one network and associated with other network will it make any difference, or a CDMA network makes this as a disposable fone once use cannot be reused. thanks

  • Yes, HTC will use the Qualcomm Dual Core CPU's on the future, which are much better than the Nvidia's! Qualcomm CPU need less battery.

  • Qualcomm just revealed dual processor. I believe HTC will use that CPU in their future phones when the time is right. There are NVIDIA Tegra 2 phones. The door is open.

  • How often do you need HDMI port? ;)

  • Seriously dude, in the general market, not everyone uses HDMI. Heck, Even I don't use it. HTC is not that big of a company. They're aiming for quality, not quantity.

  • HTC Make a PRO version of this 1) 4.5 Inch screen 2) Dual SIM 3) Slider QWERTY Key pad

  • Really dissappointed with HTC, they usealy innovate and give us awesome specs. Where is the hdmi out port? LG, Samsung and motorola will dominate android this year

  • what is so great about it. no dual core and hdmi out. old wine in new bottle

  • will this be released in finland, i mean EUROPE.

  • i am old htc customer and i have been waiting for a new htc technologi while all the other brands like samsung lg motorola ..... all have new tech. prossesor dual and samsung have the 4.5" (led) while htc still on their same tech i must say shame on you htc

  • Hi HTC team, i have already wrote before. I am a fan and of htc phones and have owned before. But i have mentioned before that in good htc phones there is no secondary camera. Now after long period this phone is really excellent with all features but NO GSM, what is the use? Please launch these phones for gsm.

  • will this be in europe. in my case Finland. post please

  • 1)een-super amolesd 2)2g and 3g network should be gsm 3)weight 160g+ 4)internal memory 16gb ram 512mb 5)3g as fast as they can 6)blue thoot 3.0 7) video recording 1080p full hd 8)secondary should be 2mp 9)android honeycomb 10)processer speed 1.5 ghz and the last 11) battery life 2000 mah battry life if this will possible than all company will flop

  • Hello guys! does this phone come to europe?

  • Definatly the phone for me android and a camera at last well done HTC you have shown it is possible to focus on more than one thing

  • why still LCD??? come on!!! please somebody wake up the guys from HTC!!! they'll lose lots of customers because of this... shame

  • That was the Evo 4G. This one is pretty similar, except that it works with LTE instead of WiMAX.

  • front cam is 5 mp rear cam is 8 mp

  • Internal 16GB 768 MB RAM GPRS Class 32 EDGE Class 32 htc DLNA Infrared port Yes Video Yes, 720p@30fps, LED video Secondary Yes, 1.5 MP OS Android 2.3 Gingerbread 1.2GHz MSM8960 1800mAh battery : )

  • plz menson the vertions...
