Mitac MIO A701 - User Reviews

  • Hard reset is solution.

  • my son has set a password but now has 4got what it is -is there a way to clear this setting.. thanks rob

  • Hey Calin, first backup your data from Outlook exporting all Personal folder (including subdirectories) into a .pst file. Then delete all contacts from Outlook. ActiveSync (I suppose you intalled it for XP; for Windows 7 is not needed) will synchronize your Mio too (will empty the contacts). Disconnect your Mio - you can borrow it now ;) Now recover your Outlook contacts from your backup file (import it - overwrite). Next time you connect your Mio A701 the contacts will be syncronized (copied to your Mio from Outlook). Enjoy!

  • By the way. This phone suports 8GB memory card. I am using it with the cheapest kingstone memory of 8 GB without ANY problems. It seems that most users have problems with 4GB and gave up on biger sizes :) I am still a very happy Mio A701 user. This phone-gps is the best (Quality-Price-Endurance). Another thing: I am using it with a 3000 mAh battery and lasts easily 5-7 days depending on usage (including use of GPS).

  • Yes I can confirm it definitely can be flashed with wm6.1 rom. I'm currently using ELM-20931.1.5.0-WWE build without any problems.

  • can someone help me how to flash mitac mio a701?? with windows 6.1

  • I have reflashed Mio A701, but after rebooting device show |unlock" button but I can't tap on it. Can you help?

  • Yes you can flash wm6 or wm6.1 with ScoterRomUpdate-R01 ,you can find full instruction just put in google this ScoterRomUpdate-R01. I flash wm6.1 manila 2d work great and all.

  • No I was told it cannot be updated to Win Mobile 6.

  • I have used the A701 for since last July (2008) and it took me 6 months to get the GPS to work but now it is great. I bought and installed TomTom 6. I am in the US and on AT&T and everything works now expect when I want to send MMS messages. I can't send or receive pics or videos. I can text fine. Anybody know what the problem is?

  • good tool and looking nice but i have a problem: the phone worked perfect both in Qatar and Romania but when i've returned to Qatar it stopped. i can only receive calls and messgaes but i can't call anybody local or abroad. i've checked the settings, they are correct. Qtel customer service tried to help but no chance. SIM card working in different other phones. i'm stucked. gime some help pls.......

  • Can this device be updated with wm6? Thnx

  • Nice phone for this price.....but the photo camera is poor and display is a little bit small. anyway i recommand it for simple users.

  • I've used The Mitac Mio A701 for about 2 and a half years now and I love it. It has been an amazing device. The only thing I've never liked about the device is that it doesn't have WiFi. I have unlimited GPRS so it hasn't really been a problem, but that would have been nice. The phone looks great and performs well. I use the latest version of TomTom Navigator with a map of the USA on my 4gb SD card. Works like a charm and gets the GPS fix quickly. The phone also comes stock with a program that can be set to automaticaly download an Ephemeris file for quicker GPS fixes. The A701 community has been strong for a long time and you can find ROM upgrades for the A701 to Windows Mobile 6.1 if you look. All-in-all this device has been amazing and I have really enjoyed using it. It was a killer phone when it first hit the streets and still holds its own today. If you can't aford one of the newer $600+ phones then I would say see if you can pick up one of these.

  • I bought a WiFi SDIO Card for my Mio A701. How can I install it and what are settings I must do?

  • you solve this until now? i have solution (both)

  • thanks Condor

  • Hello, I have a MioA701 for about a year and i must say it is a great device. I only have one little problem. As i use the gps-function frequently i would have liked to pass the voice of the gps throught the car speakers. My garage says its impossible but he told me that i can pass the voice of gps through bluetooth. I tried to do this but i didn't find it until now. Can someone please help me? It's extremely anoying that the mounter hides the speaker. It is impossbile to hear the voice of the gps. My MioA701 runs with windows professional and the miomap V3 Thx!!

  • hi, just read your question on navigation. make sure tomtom card is in device and turned on. tap the screen for menu options to appear, tap navigate to, then tap address, after inputting your adress the navigator will try to find the address, you will probably find a white bar that will be on the right of the screen, tap the white bar, you need to go through the configure menu, you maight find other NMEA GPS is the one to use, on this screen you should see a yelloe and black circle rotating, further down the screen you will see a compass, this is for satelites, the dots inside the compass will be grey to start, along the bottom of the screen will be 14 rows of bars, all will be grey to dtart with, the dots and bars will turn blue when you have made a gps connection. press done if this works. it worked with my version, but i only found it by playing around, someone advised me to reset the baud rate to 5600, not sure if i needed to. hope this helps and that you still have your mitac, i am still learning how to use mine and ive had it over a year. [email protected]

  • flash it with latest WM6.1 ROM by poldo and u can use 8GB SDHC cards. Enjoy

  • It's a cool Phone, But It still not Enough for Person who like to use many function of fone.

  • I think that pocket PC is more stylus than the other, and it have GPS to make me more Easier. the most importan Think it have only Bluetooth, But It have no Wi-FI, Have no Ifrared, and have low Cam. But Actualy I still love it.

  • The best phone Ive bought for years. Had it for nine months now and only had it fixed for the mic/speaker.. coz I filled it full of metal dust I think from work. GPS gets confused when you leave it in 35+ degree heat. Im still learning the Windows on it. I hope the phone carriers don't loose GSM cover as it doesnt have 3G capability though. Can't seem to copy GPS mapping onto a bigger SD 2Gig card?. Sill better than all other phones.

  • The best phone ever!

  • It is a good phone sadly it has too many bugs better buy a 6110 Navigator ;)

  • I have owned my A701 for 6 months. I use the PDA function most and the GPS for navigating the city streets. Great unit, has not let me down. I have no trouble with phone reception. I like this model most, it has less buttons and more screen functions. 9/10

  • i own one of these. it's an ok device, any idea where i cand get applications and games? [email protected]

  • I have a Mio A701 since 1,5 year the first 9 months it was working perfect, except the weakness with the battery you have maximum 1/2 hour of conversation and you can't use the GPS without external energy, I use my phone for my job and I usually have 2 hours of communication. After 9 months, it began to need to be restarted 2 or 3 time a day, I had a contact with Mitac belgium, they told me to load the Windows 6 soft. I did it, after this The errors with the phone grew up to a level as I have to use it as a GPS navigator. So I'll buy a HTC P3300 and use the Mio in my second car as a GPS navigator !!!

  • Someone said it's heavy. At the time of it's release, it was one of the lightest devices of it's kind, at 150 g., and remember that it has almost everything integrated in it and a large screen. Most others were 170-190 g., or more.

  • I've had the Mio A701 for more than a year and i've never had any problems with it. It works great and it moves very fast, even with A LOT of extra aplications & games installed (SPB Mobile Shell & Phone Suite are a must). Even the phone part works good, even though I do have the lag in answering calls, which I don't really like. The signal strength is good, too. It may not be the best PHONE, the best PDA, the best GPS device, but it's a great combination of all these things. It works for me!

  • Well. Great phone! The "2 secs" delay is gone with Oki R024 WM 5.0 ROM. With this my calls delay is around: 0,5 secs. Way better. Talking about the phone itself, its a very fast machine, runs at ~ 500 Mhz, great GPS, i use Tomtom 6 on it, works wonders. Good SMS - Email - MMS management. Work fine with a 4GB SD card. Very good. Only one thing that's bad: the phone weight. 5 Stars PPC mobile.

  • Well done phone and great functions. I recommend it . GPS working very good, phone part with no mistake. The only "bad" thing is the fact that when you answer to the phone there is 2 second time delay. Other wise, GREAT device.

  • Well folks, Mio was very quick to give me the third replacement in February. I love the versitilty of the phone and SD card expension. MP3 is second to none in sound. Camera is totally useless. GPS has been excellent but the phone has in the last few weeks has started to crash on incomeing text and calls and needed a reset before it can be used. When GPS starts up all the alarms and reminders for the day come on one after the other. I treat it with more care than my grandmother. Thinking of throwing it back at Mio and get a Nokia equivalent. Any suggestion out there.

  • into the phone, all functions, and your design doesn't happy me...

  • I've had my mio for about a month now. GPS works great- came preinstalled with MioMap. ActiveSync no problem after disabling ZoneAlarm and Spyware softwares. I also have an Ambeon wifi working with it. Overall, the phone/pda really suits my needs and I'd recommend it to everyone... *except* those who would use the phone function a lot. My mio has been dropping calls- when I answer, the line hangs up. However, it seems to always pick up properly on the 2nd call. If u don't mind spending an extra minute waiting for the person to call back, or calling them yourself, then it's bearable. To be fair, I did not notice this problem when I 1st had the phone (maybe because I didn't get many calls), so it may be due to software conflicts since i've downloaded several games and other softwares. Finally... messaging is great. The virtual keyboard and auto word completion feature beats T9 predictive text messaging hands down, i reckon.

  • Can anyone confirm that this phone will play MP3s at the same time as the satnav is active and in use ?

  • Applications available on alt.binaries.warez.pocketpc on newsnet. For improved performance in the sun increase backlight in settings.

  • how ca i get the tomtom v6 softwear can anyone help

  • Frans, Thanks for the GPS settings, it works. However, I got more problmes now. My MIO always freeze for no apparent reasons, be it I set it to lock or unlock. I try the reset "button" but to no avail. I need to take the battery out in order to cause it to work again!! I have to do this more than 10 times a day!! The phone did not work properly. It's the worst phone I ever had. I rate the whole Mio A701 as appalling after spending so much money and effort on it! I can sympathise with Michaelc's experience ;-(

  • The settings in TomTom6 for the GPA has te be: other NMEA GPS-reciever. GPS-baudspeed has te be 57600. Port is GPS_HWCOM. Succes.

  • I have just bought myself the Mio A701 and got TomTom version 6 successfully installed. When I powered up TOMTOM, the navigation just didn't work. The map was shown but indicated that No GPS was found and kept showing that it was trying to connect to GPS device, and of course without any success. I have set the Settings/GPS Settings/GPS Program port to COM4. Any suggestions from anyone how to get the GPS runnning. Thanking you in advance from hearing from you.

  • Does anyone know where can I find applications for this device (A701)? thnx

  • Does anyone know how can I delete all contacts from the device (not those on the SIM)?

  • This is my second A701 in the last two mouths. First one had lots of problem crashing when receiving calls and alarm does not sound. Second replacement one was great for 6 weeks and have the same crashing issue, reminders and alarm came on when it is not suppose to. Worst still the screen breaks up in red colours when the phone is handle/touch. Not much help from Mio except to return it for repair. Very disappointed. Yes screen is impossible to read in the sun and missed lots of call due to low vol ring tone. GPS is fast, concept of having GPS,phone, etc is great but reliability is appauling. MP3 sound is great, as good as IRivers I had though no equaliser setting. Slide show stop when divice auto power safe cuts in. No time setting for side show. Does anybody out there experience this difficulty. I totally lost confidence with this unit. Had a Sony P800 and went through hell with it but it never missed a beat. Mio map Sd card is only 256Mb and if copied to another card will not work thus need to carry another card for photos and music. Is there another brand out there that will do the same job reliably and as compact?

  • Hi Everyone, I was wondering if it is possible to install T mobile settings for MMs and wap on this handset, and if so how?

  • this phone does not come with any GPS software, if you want to use GPS on this phone, you have to buy the software, and they cost alot LOL.

  • I recently bought A701 and I am really excited on this!! In a few words, GPS is quickly responded, fast processor and excellent phone signal!! Cons: limited phone features!!

  • HI! I just bought the MIO A701 and I'm in the U.S. I am completely confused! How do I get GPS on it? I have to buy the system and then install it? Can someone please help? Also, how do I use my MP3'S for ringtones? THANKS :)

  • Can the MIO A701 be used as a voice recorder?

  • GPS funtion really good......

  • Its a sweet phone and with MioMaps, it works as the best PDA phone. As we use more & more, we started loving it more & more.. Works fine with a wi-fi card for wireless connection. Connection was not good when using Skype on wi-Fi... Anybody used skype on it ?

  • This is the best and reliable PDA that i ever use. Battery support is good, for heavy use buy the 2nd battery. GPS accurate install with tomtom or mio map it self. package incl all the things i need in the car. I dont have problem with synch with laptop (Win XP home edition)

  • i have 1 unit of mio a701 and i dun have the driver the sync to my pc/notebook . can anyone tell me where to download the driver and software ? thanks n regards

  • Can anyone tell me how to synchronize the mio a700 with my laptop. I'm using ACT and i can't get connection, although i installed teh CDROM. Very frustrating cause i need it for my email, tasklist etc..

  • Hi, I wanted to get the MIO A701 but was told that I have to wait because appararently there is a "new" batch coming in Mid October. Is this the upgrade version, sorting out some of the problems (e.g. com port, voice problems, GPS, etc.) which I read from the email correspondences posted on this site? There's not a lot mention about A701 as a PDA, its capability in Word, Excel and Outlook. Any thoughts to share on the above subjects is much appreciated. Thank you.

  • hi, how about the new moddel from ETEN G500 PLUS? what do you think comparing with A701 ????

  • can anyone tell me about the GPS ? is in 3d or 2d ? is it easy to use ? thanks very much

  • Yes, you can have a phone call with the GPS functionality active. I personally use mapopolis. When a call comes through, it covers the bottom portion of the screen, you can click answer or reject call. When you answer the call, it brings it full screen, until you are done. Once you are finished with the call, you close the phone app, and press your GPS hotkey, if you configured it, and no issues, back to normal.

  • I love this device, but I need help . I can't find the pictures send from pc to my MIO using bluetooth !!! Anybody can help me ?

  • what is the different of MIO A701 and MIO A700 ?

  • Hi, Can anyone tell me if you can make & receive calls while using the GPS ?

  • Philips post on 3 aug: Just curious which screenprotector fitted and did its job.

  • Has anyone experience MIO A701 with wifi Card? pls advice what brand?

  • There are R55 Roms out there for upgrade. Anyone out there done it already ? Please advice.

  • i have mio a700 need to configure mms can't find the way

  • HI, Has anybody used this device with the Parrot 3100 blue tooth car kit?

  • TomTom works great on this Phone. It just saved my cat's life two days ago by finding the nearest vet and their phone #. I'm looking at this phone, and think to myself. It only has to work once, and worth every pennies I spent on this device.

  • hello!i like Q-tec s 200 very much but i like mio A701 too!So any Advice which one is better and worth of money!Camera-video?cpu?Can i put maps to Q-tec to work as navigator? Thanks!!!

  • Anyone got Speed dial working on this phone?

  • Yes, but it depends on the resolution and the aspect ratio of your video, too.

  • Hi,does it plays videos in full screen?

  • Got the phone for a week, pretty happy with it. Here is what I find. The screen protector came with the phone makes the screen hard to see under the sun, because the surface side is not crystal clear. So I bought a better screen protector, put it on. The screen is much brigther now and visable under the sun.

  • Does it have outlook?

  • love the gps,come on

  • Answers to two previous questions: - depending on where and when you buy this phone, it will have push email. A version with Windows Mobile 5 AKU 2.3 supporting push email is planned to be relased at the end of July - yes you can synchronise MP3 files - you need to install Active Sync 4.x and in case this still does not work do the following: 1. Plug-in the windows mobile device 2. Go to the Control Panel, and start the Network Connections applet 3. Get the Properties for the network connection for your Windows Mobile Device (usually Local Area Connection number 7 or 4 or something). You can do this by right-clicking the network connection and choosing properties 4. In the This connection uses the following items box, try unchecking everything that is not: a. Client for Microsoft Networks b. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks c. Internet Protocol (TCI/IP) 5. Click OK

  • Where I can fin the manual for Mio A701? I lose it and now I can`t know how to use it. Please help me>

  • HELP plz, a have a problem with Sync, Windows Media Player doesn't recognize my Mio and i cannot add music on my mmc card. Is there some other way to add music on the card in longer to use an Mp3 as a ringtone? Tnx

  • Hi....Does anyone know if this phone has push email? Really like the look and functionality of it, but want to have push email....

  • Hello'In reply to the above yes we have Vibrtion alarm, GPS is grate up an running in about 10sec max, but you need not change the setting from COM PORT 4 if you do will not work,as for skype no as no wifi. Would I recommend it yes its a great sat-nav unit 10/10, Phones not bad could be a little better ringer bit low setting little hard to find but they are their, not found how to set music/mp3 as ring tone yet Hmmmm! so 7/10. GPS 10/10 works fine with TomTom. Main reason I recommend this unit dont like having to carry a phone,GPS box, PDA, see my point car full of chargers speaking of battery 8/10 here but comes with car charger and house charger so what can I say, not to hard to plug it in will last a good time approx 5 days if I could stop playing with it and put it down. are far as I see it the choice you have to make is wi-fi/skype home internet or carry a gps box with you when you go out and worry about charge it up. I think I can us the home computer for skype and going on internet and just carry phone when out, Take Care Kind Regards Carlos

  • Would it be possible to run an FM radio tuner like the Eten G500 does?

  • Dear All, I am keen to get the MIO A701 PDA. But am somewhat confused by the massive price difference between one bought in the UK or one purchased on the web and imported. Is their something to be wary of with the possible cheaper copies? Regards

  • Skype would work fine, but you'd need to buy the seperate WLAN SD card for an internet connection,,, unless you wanna use it over GPRS instead!?

  • Can anybody tell me hoe to set up the GPS with Tom Tom Nav 5. I get the message no GPS device, I note from previous anwers I need to set the s/w to GPS_HWcom, are the any other changes (may be on the GPS settings )this doesn't seem to work?

  • Does mio a701 have vibration alarm?? I read in the post that the volume is rather low, so I wonder if there is vibration built-in, because it would solve the problem.

  • Does Skype work on this phone?

  • I have a Mio Mitac A180 pocket pc. I am very happy with the gps device. The CPU is a little slow and the autonomy is pour.(about 3hours).I can hardly wait to try the new mio a 701!

  • I want one :(((

  • Hello everyone, this is realy the best phone on this moment. I have this one for 3 weeks now, and its realy great! This note i make with the a701... The built in gps is great, and the fix is fast! Tomtom 5.21 works fine. I have no bad comment for the Mitac Mio a701. Kind regards, Jorg

  • best gps pda fone!

  • I have this phone for 2 weeks, and I am really happy with it. Is is really an all in one object. The Gps built in its great, You dont need to carry with you any other object.

  • You can get the manuel from there web site below is the link:

  • For use speed dial from from speed dial screen use SmartsKeys (you can download it from forum.xda-developers.com)

  • I read several reviews here and felt i should write a few lines. I have owned the Mio for abt 2 months now. This unit is defi faster compared to ETEN and weighs less as well. Skype works great. I used TomTom Navigator and it works great too. Gaining access to satellites takes few minutes though. One user said no MP3 ringtone. FALSE. i use MP3 ringtones. The phone has hardly ever gone in a hang. I installed MS Voice Command. Works just fine...even through my Logitech BT Headset. Sound quality over BT is averegish (it was horrible with ETEN). I also use a Septec WiFi card. Works great! The Phone is bundled with tons of accessories unlike the ETEN. Now the Bad things - (1) Speed Dial is a joke. U cannot dial from speed dial screen. U would need to remember which position who is stored and then directly over keyboard hold and press that number. (2) There is echo problem sometimes, Have to play with volume control to make it dissapear. (3) LCD display absolutely unreadable in daylight. (4) When the device is locked, the shortcut hardware buttons are not locked. (5) Havent see a single ROM Update from Mio yet! All in all i rank the Mio better over the ETEN units. I am satisfied with this expensive purchase!

  • I wonder can send me the MIDlet manager for MIDP 2.0 (J2ME) ... I cannot find it anywhere on my A701, how can I run Java programs ?!

  • I've got the mio for one week right now. SOmethimesslow reaction and a lot of errors. I'm still missing my manual. Does anybody have this digital? Please sent to me.

  • Yeah right the ETEN G500 weighs almost 200grams.Thats like carriying a bloody shoe around.Try shoving an ETEN up your rear end heheh. You can get a wifi sd card that weighs 10 grams so 148+10 is 158grams for your wifi enabled MITAC MIO.In the cell phone business 10grams is like shaving 100 kilograms 220pounds of a sports car.Not to mention its 4mm thicker. It`ll make quite a hole in your pocket.

  • to maab the screen visibility outdoors sucks. i mean really you have to use it in a dark closet or something to actually see the screen.

  • Hello, can anyone please comment on screen visibility and keyboard usage outdoor under bright sunlight conditions? Thank you

  • I have got my Mio A701 two weeks ago, and my friend's got the ETEN G500 at the same time. I am quite disappointed from the MIO, its main quality over the G500 is its size/weight and its GPS performance (due to Empheris file feature). In all other it falls way beyond the ETEN. Its stuck 10 time a day (requires soft reset), has much slower response than the ETEN, less phone abilities (zoom SMS, full screen keyborad, conference call buttons during call and many other things). No voice command (which is embedded inside the ETEN OS) btw, I could not install it at all. It has no MP3 ringtones!!!! Only tri-band instead of quad band, and no FM radio. Speaker volume is low - located on the back side and when it is mounted in the car, the mounting kit blocks it completely. In the car you have to use Bluetooth earphone or speaker!! It is not possible to see anything on the screen on a sunny day. Ringtone volume is low - I miss a lot of calls every day. And at last, no response from MIO support regarding anything. My suggestion: wait for other products. If you consider it as a replacment for a good mobile then, forget it.

  • I was wondering if anyone has actually used Memory Map V5.0 on Mio A701. I am interested in using the A701 for Hiking in the hills and having my route and position shown on an OS Map, live will be very useful.

  • Does anyone known how to do a hard reset on the A701???

  • Has anyone in Australia managed to get GPRS and MMS working on this phone? Have you been able to browse the internet with Internet Explorer via GPRS?? Please advise.

  • I have TomTom Navigator 5.21 + Iberia_Plus-Map 6.32 working fine. I never try to use it with BT on.

  • To Clinton, I finally went for mapopolis as my mapping software since they offer Demo that you can try before buy. It took me awhile to find out how it works by talking with their technical support thru emails. It picks up the GPS singal at a decent speed and it's on COM4 but make sure you download the all the file (s) for the GPS feature. I'm gonna try it in my car tonight and see how well it will go before I make my purchase (map packs).

  • I have just received my Mio and i love it!!!!! Very well designed and many functions, this is the best smartphone i have ever had. I agree with 4tau: it is better than Tomtom. And if you want to protect it, try one of these fantastic cases from noreve.com Got mine in beige: exceptionnal!!!!! i love it!!!!

  • To Clinton, I guess you're right, also maybe due to the mapping software you're using. I just received mine and so far so good. I will install Pocket Street 2005 and see how much luck I'm gonna get. I heard TomTom is working with it, except its voice feature.

  • The GPS and Bluetooth do work together, but the GPS location becomes inaccurate when Bluetooth is also enabled. Maybe it's because of the throughput of data from both signals at the same time, or maybe there is some kind of signal 'swamping' between the two signals...? Bought the Mio A701 in the U.K. but now using it in Australia running Destinator PN. -I still love the product!!!!!!, but would be nice to get to the bottom of this. I will be testing it more for this issue over the next few days for a more conclusive evaluation incase it's something else.

  • To Clinton, So you mean the GPS and bluetooth won't work together (at the same time)? Are you in U.S. or outside U.S.? What kinda software you running your GPS? Thanks!

  • I have emailed TomTom and Navigon and they both said wouldn't work with our A701. I guess the A701 is just too new and they don't wanna say for sure as I heard TomTom and Navigon worked fine with other countries. Anyway, I called Microsoft and they told me the Pocket Street 2005 should work fine becuase it designed for Windows Mobile 2003SE or "later". I'm gonna give it a shot and see how much luck I have, will post the update in here.

  • I just purchased the Mitac Mio A701 and love everything about it, but I am experiencing a major functional issue and want to know if anyone has experienced the same: I find that when I enable bluetooth for my handsfree carkit, the GPS with car navigation becomes inaccurate. If I then disable bluetooth the GPS works properly again. I'm hoping that if this is a valid issue, a ROM update in the near future will sort it out?!

  • Does anyone known the read/write speed of the SD/MMC Slot?

  • I have installed tomtom navigator 5 in my a701 and its not working. It keeps on saying no GPS device. I have selected other bluetooth device and GPS_HWCOM on the configuration. Can anyone help please. Thanks

  • Does Navigon MN5 works properly with A701/Winows Mobile 5.0 in U.S.? Anyone tried it and know about the installion, please post. Many Thanks!!!

  • Did not come with the user manual for the MIO A701. Anyone know where I can down load one at. Also how do you use the speed dial, I have added the numbers but when i touch them it does not dial like my siemens SX66 did. Many thanks, Singh

  • to use tomtom 5 select gpshw_com not com4.

  • does anybody know how to make the GPS pickup signal faster in the Mio? what settings do you do for tom tom navigator 5?

  • I have installed tomtom navigator 5 in my a701 and its not working it keeps on saying to GPS device and I tried to change to all the possible com-ports and its not doing a thing I really need help anyone please!!!

  • I have installed navigon NM5 on my A701 but when I run the program my device ID does not appear therefore I cannot register or use the program. Can anyone advise me ?

  • Been using my A701 for just over a week, running both TomTom & Memory Map without any problems. Excellent Phone/PDA. Just one issue with the stylus, the first broke in the unit, but managed to claw it out, so be careful!! It's not robust and is prone to break. Would have prefered it on top as well, I am looking for an alternative stylus that fits the unit.

  • I am currently using Iguidance software with my mio and I can't get it to work does anybody know how to do it orjust how to turn on the GPS on this unit?

  • Just got my A701. Its fantastic.Loaded Navigon MN5 Navigation. Works really well. Better than Tom Tom.

  • got my A701 - nice kit, bit having great probs syncing it with exchange 2003 server - wont let you install any certificates, although this is a WM5 prob i think!??

  • I'd be interested in a comparison of the Mio A701 and the E-Ten G500. They are quite similar. The main differences as far as I can tell are that the G500 has voice command software, quad-band, and TMC function, but a mini-SD slot rather than SD. Does anyone know if this mini-SD is sdio capable for adding WIFI? The mio SD slot is SDIO. On paper, then, the E-Ten looks like it offers a bit more, but I'd have to see a complete review of both to be sure.

  • Hi congrats on your new phone! I was wondering, my car has bluetooth built in for handsfree voice dialing, without voice dialing on the phone, will the cars voice dialing still work? Thanks in advance.

  • got mine on sat 11 march. put TomTom 5 on it, works like a charm, only drawback apart from no wifi , is no voice dialing. i also think the stylus is a bit weak, other than that its an exelent peice of hardware, would give it 9/10. got mine at

  • It's available in a few UK stores that will ship overseas. It's actually officially in stock in most stores. I bought mine from clove.co.uk I'll post more when I get it.

  • Is this phone really coming out or that company just trying to fool the stock market? I like this phone and think it's a great phone. However, I've been waiting for more than 3 months already. Now it's mid March already. I am really wondering about this phone will they come to US

  • is this GPS sirf star III can receive TMC ?

  • Why this phone doesn't have Wlan? It's useless for me without that. Ok, I'll buy card for Wlan, but this phone has only one slot, which is already occupied with 1GB memory card - whithout this card I can't work. Any idea, solution, some similar other phone? I heard that exists cards with wlan and memory together. But does exists with 1 GB memory?

  • MMC and SD slot are usually together (just one slot)

  • Does someone know if this phone has separate slots for both MMC and SD. If so you could use the SD slot for a wifi card and the MMC slot for memory expansion!

  • Mine arrived yesterday from www.gpsmidlands.co.uk and apart from missing wireless is brilliant. I have managed to install s spectec sd wi-fi card without too much problem. Gps sensitivity is as goos as it gets !!

  • I have preordered mine from www.supergps.co.uk as they will be the first web site in the UK to have them. Arriving with them 10th March

  • In love with this phone but wifi is a must in this internet world.

  • But no wi-fi and no support fot UK 7-digit postcodes, sadly. Can add SD wi-fi, I suppose, so probably the best all-in-one currently available. I think I'll wait for something better though.

  • I've been looking a long time for a new phone. I'm now choosing between the QTEK S200 and this one but I think that it will be this one. Differences between QTEK S200: + GPS - Wifi - Bluetooth Version 2 - IrDa

  • Yeah, phone looks really smart. Looks like March is now confirmed as release date. It was due around October last year. This site has delivery for early March www.supergps.co.uk. Probably in time for the launch at CEBIT.

  • According to this eshop the phone will be available in March. I will buy it since there is no better communicator/gps bundle available. Great cpu, memory ok, latest s/w, gps..... (Maybe the screen is a bit small for gps but I'll live with that)

  • OK.. Since everybody think it is a great phone w/ all those power parts and excelent performence, did we miss something?? It's been a while since we saw the first post of this phone from Aug '05. And Now it's Feb '06. I am still waiting for it, but when will it really release? it's been delated for long time, and many times.

  • Hi, Anyone knows if the GPS chip be able to provide aviation Data (speed/distance/Altitude/Heading etc...). Well the previous post mentionned that the A201 was able to take any GPS software , is that known for a fact? (it would be sweet if the A701 does the same ... you guessed it for aviation software :-) ... thanks). Cheers,

  • Well, it uses the SiRFStar III -- which is a darned good GPS chip. I'm hoping they follow the A201 and allow you to install whatever GPS software you'd like, rather than the 268/269, which comes prepackaged with TeleAtlas things (TomTom uses SiRFStar w/ TeleAtlas maps, btw). No clue on the phone quality, though ...

  • Honestly, I had never heard of this brand, I have a doubt about its recieveing abulity. Also will they being for sale in US? THis company mainly target on Asia market, I wonder the GPS they have, it that including US maps. HOwever, I do feel impressed about it's function.

  • Side note -- according to their reps, they're targeting an early February launch date, but don't have tech specs (!?!) or target pricing (darn) as of 1/2/06.

  • Great looking phone. I don't use wireless a great deal, so the lack of built-in wifi isn't a huge detriment -- that's what my SD wifi card is for. Kind of worrisome that I haven't seen anything new (no reviews, no nothing) since the press release ... anyone seen any kind of review on this yet? And I agree with Lee -- all indications are that this phone is quad-band, not tri-band. Which is fortunate -- the lack of an 850 band here in the states would keep me from buying this gorgeous phone.

  • Pretty cool design

  • I broke my D500 and this phone will replaces it (i can livce with out Wi-Fi) I Have been look for a few day to buy this phone but no dice. I read that it should be out in march of 2006. where is a good places to buy it before it is out? Is Ebay this first places to buy it?

  • Wowwww! really very beautiful design as well as compact, small with GPS intigrated, it is a must have device.

  • Why is this phone listed as Tri-Band when the Press Release from Mio's website clearly states that this phone is a quad-band phone?

  • the Qtek G100 is not a phone and has very samll ram rom and a slow processor...

  • Guess this is a must have. Except no Wifi.... that's unfortunate. So i'll have to choose between this one and the Qtek G100 that has both GPS built-in and Wifi

  • This phone's looks is pretty cool

  • i think this phone will kick butt...it has everything...wow...

  • no wifi???

  • Nothing special? Bluetooth, wifi, Windows Mobile 2005 (= a complete pocket pc), GPS receiver, Intel processor of 520mhz, 192 mb memory, etc.. And it also is a phone. This device is not special, it is unique!

  • It has onboard GPS, so I would say something special

  • wow cool phone!!

  • hahaha i first to post, a nice phone, but nothing special. wen out?
