Motorola A3100 - User Reviews

  • I used this for some years and loved it ...the apps available were incredible and the backup was stellar ...movies play well ...only thing, it was good for absolutely everything but poor for making calls especially the poor speakerphone ...I would NEVER have changed except for that fact ...I looked today at win7 phones online but they will NOT run any win6.x software ...drat!!

  • I have this phone for three years. It's a beauty, comfortable to hold,& I don't need a head set or extension speaker to listen music from it's library, the sound is so loud & clear even inside the noisy train. But I agree that battery life is so frustating & totally invisible display under the sun. I hope motorola will listen to peoples complains & do improve. Thanks

  • Check out my comments on this phone during late July and early August 2009 while in Korea. I think it speaks volumes about this phone. The comments are all here, several pages back.

  • wht exject battery life 1-standby time 2-talktime or touch response

  • thopugh yes im a dedicated moto lover since day1.i still state that the a 3100 is great incl.win gps internal mem well progress to motorola "the innovators".

  • over two years with this phone, great phone never miss a call or lost signal (3G)

  • Almost forget.. battery life sucks too. My device drains battery energy in less than 24 hours.

  • This is a expensive piece of crap. Without 3rd party apps (which cost too much)it would be nothing. It freezes all of the time, windows mobile sucks. Wtf were moto guys thinking? Internal memory gets full quickly and you have to uninstall your favorite programsto avoid getting mad bcz of the lack of speed of the interface. 4.5 out of 10. the only thing I love about it is internal GPS. Moto... FAILED

  • Looks too good..!! A lot better than the 3G-less HTC Touch 2 sold for INR 11000. Best Windows Mobile 6 phone for just around INR 8k.

  • Wat d hell is moto doin wid d battery pack...d fone looks gr8 n features r also gud...but d battery...showin hell...but still confused wether 2 buy dis o not...pls help me guys...should i buy dis...?

  • can i use d touch without a stylus??

  • This phone was designed by Lucifer himself. He knew it would drive anyone using it crazy.

  • I have had this phone for over 12mths and I have had to send it back to be fixed twice beause of freezing. The screen is hard to see and I cannot get mms messages. Other then these things the phone seemed quite good. Unfortuently I am sick of it freezing so about to get another phone!

  • I have this phone , my display dont work & i cant do any things , how can i recover my contact list , ??????????

  • don't see this in the philippines.

  • can anyone tell me whether it has the following features" (a) does it have stylus? (I guess it has since in the gsmareana says "handwriting recognition". But the pic galary doesn't show explicitly. (b) can I record the voice of the called or calling party? thanks, moto lover.

  • Not offered by any phone company in the Philippines.

  • I need to know how to see its Mac add.. for wireless/...?

  • Do people really get headache with this phone??? I think it seems very well built and you should not be afraid it would get scratch or breaks even if you dont pay good attention to it everytime you went out or party at night. I used to have LG Pop and it required my constant attention since i am afraid it would break, very delicate feature

  • I had a lot of headaches with this phone... continuos freezing, lost of signal finding 3g-2g network, a lot of missed calls, poor battery performance. I choose the old Motoq. This A3100 is a terrible gadget

  • how much it is in the philippines?

  • you're sure it's 3 meters deep!!!!! I never saw a pool that deep! never mind, I'm just kidding, great that it worked again!

  • very nice phone

  • This small wonderfull gadget is on demand now.Morover you can get it in Motorola Showrooms, its available. But Includes VAT on Mrp.

  • where can i buy A3100?

  • simple and beautiful

  • If you like head aches and wasting lots of time setting up this phone then get it , if not stay away .

  • where can i get more themes for this little gadget, .....anyone could help, is much appreciated

  • Well, I think the main drawback of this phone is it's battery life.. It only lasts one day.

  • I'm not really into touch screen phones, but this one seems class..

  • i want to know did moto a 3100 can be modem like em 30 thx?

  • Garmin works fine on it and i have been using it for navigation in Malaysia for sometime,

  • Hello this cellphone is good design but the touchscreen is too little and i would recommend the MOTOROLA MILESTONE!!! =) Windows Mobile Phones suck that is why motorola is making android phones

  • yes is possible to use igo for this device

  • Does it have gps chipset or only A-gps function? Is it possible to use garmin mobile xt, igo or tomtom on this device? Thank you

  • Sorry I forgot, as I had the English version from Jul til Oct last year. Do like to remind you, without any special software, the English version "does not / cannot" display Chinese website properly. WM 6.1 is one of the silliest OS I've seen, which does "not" allow one to switch between Chinese and English UI (unlike its own 6.0) at anytime. Initally I got the Chinese version, but I could hardly understand the OS in Chinese. So once the English version came out last Jul, I had Moto CS in HK to upgrade back to English, then I encountered the problem above. I do recall roughly even the English version supports Chinese character input.

  • Hello, I would like to know if is possible to have a chinese-english-chinese dictionary with this phone. Would I be able to copy and paste either chinese or english from the dictionary to SMS or from SMS to dictionary. Is it possible to enter either chinese or english (with handwritting or other method) while using the english version of the OS ?

  • Hi everyone can anyone tell where can i get this moto in chennai-India i tried for so many mobile stores i couldnt find it

  • Hi Carlos, if u unable to send or receive mms, u need to check the mms setting. u can get the mms setting from ur network provider. :)

  • I've had this phone for six months, great PDA...The only problem I have is....there's no way I can send nor receive MMS...maybe it has something to do with windows 6.1...I do not have this problem with my two other phones...If someone could give me a hint....Thanks..

  • i like this phone

  • I have it. I love it. At first, people said there was poor sound quality (their end), but I cleaned the little opening for the microphone (it was barely used off eBay) and BAM ...quality is great ...I suppose there was some crud in there (which I didn't see). The fone is awesome, and I chose it for trad off size vs features (specially the triband 3g which gives me 2100gHz when I go to the EU) which not many have. The fone is as thin as my razrV3 and only a little taller ...in landscape mode, it shows web pages fully if you set the correct font size. It is superb !! Back looks flimsy, so I bought extra one from cnn.cn cheap. Got 2 extra batteries and usb/ac chargers and 2 styli and a leather case nice off eBay from HongKong cheap. Got OEM mini-micro USB adapters SKN6252A off eBay cheap and BAM now my old mini usb wires and chargers ALL work with this fone !! Speakerphone is VERY loud and audible ...don't see a need to get a BT car device, just throw it on the console. I even downloaded a FREE app that reads out sms messages when they arrive so you don't hafta fiddle while driving. Great !! Has wifi so my data use on ATT went way down since I use it in the kitchen to read the paper and check mail in the morning over coffee. I love this thing !!

  • this phone is awesome

  • i want buy this phone any body have opinion please tell me is this phone have any problem ? or no i like moto phone

  • I accidentally dropped my A3100 to the bottom of my pool (3 meters depth). After 3 days of careful drying it works perfectly! This speaks very high about the quality of this cell phone.

  • Hi, can you upgrade the software to WINMO 6.5 in this phone?, thanks

  • I'm not a technically oriented person but let me try my best to answer your qeustion: 1)To stop the auto GPRS, one (silly) way is to set the default path to a dummy operator, so the phone simply can't login to any network for data 2)I heard A3100 is an OEM product from certain Taiwan manufacturer, so it does "not" have Crystal Talk.

  • very well phone

  • Buy a phone with OSX... X-)

  • @Jam Maybe you can try to master reset it using Master Clear application inside the phone or if you forget the security key for to do that you can try this method: 1. Turn off your phone 2. Press button End+Call+Power simultanously for several seconds then released it, you will sense a vibrate. 3. Let the master reset procedure finished, don't interrupt it.

  • without any SPITE this is good phone i bet u if u use this phone you are happy to this phone

  • please gsmarena made a review for this mobile, some people said it is awsome while others say the opposite, please we need a trusted opinion :P

  • there is crystal talk 2.0 on this phone and what do u mean there is no java installed on ur phone? where did u buy ur phone? cheers

  • I am using Motorola A3100. The EDGRE is automatically activated. How can I stop it? Besides, I have found that GPSxtra is no longer on my phone. I clicked update several timesm but it has never recovered. Java is not installed. How can I solve theses? Only good thing on Motorola is a voice call quality with Crystal Talk. Howwever, there is no Crystal Talk on A3100. Why?

  • How in the world are you supposed to remove files from this phone via USB or bluetooth on a Mac? Using this phone has taken months out of my life. Never will I venture to use Windows Mobile again. What an awful experience....

  • Sad to hear your problems, and the risk of having a phone not officially launched where you live and trying to get the necessary support....because the local Moto CS may not even have the phone, not to mention how to fix the bugs. I had similar issues with yours, especially after I browsed the web thru 3G or Wifi, I had to restart the phone in order to get it work, which takes quite a while due to the phone being Windows Mobile based. I feel somewhat cheated from Day 1 when I got A3100, because after I bought the phone, I tried to change the language from Chinese to English. (easily accomplished with my Moto Q9, being Windows Mobile 6.0) Only "afterwards" the salesperson told me such is impossible, due to licensing agreement by Bill Gates. I struggled a lot managing through the Chinese manuals, and even took a (fortunately free) course regarding Windows Mobile, but still felt unsatisfactory as basic tasks like using MP3 as alarm clock or setting playlists proved to be much much more difficult than any of my "non-smart" Moto phones. Around July Moto offered me a free upgrade of my A3100 from Chinese to English, only after changing to English Windows, most of the websites in Chinese cannot be displayed! (are we going back to 1995/96? The early days of IE which doesn't support all languages?) Then I needed to restart everytime I want to browse on the web. The end of the story is...I sold the phone last month for US$150, and I won't buy any Windows Mobile device again! (and certainly look for the various Android phones from Moto)

  • dear woland Reporter you dont talk about a3100 excellence what is good at this phone ?

  • After using this phone for 2 month i have found next problems: (actually i have two A3100. One is my and second is of my wife, but both are doing same problems) 1. In Canada, when you connect thought Rogers or Fido and activate "Name Display" service the phone stuck on first incoming call with pop-up message "CNAP Notification" and do not ring anymore. The problem is in debug code left by developers in RILGSM.DLL. Tried to talk to moto developers - but they do not answer. The solution is to ask Rogers or Fido to replace "Name Display" feature by "Call Display". 2. If your operator support 2G and 3G network in same time then phone sometimes switching between them (probably tried to find better one) and as result sometimes completely lost the connection. No Service shown on the screen and only soft reset return it to working state. The solution is to manually define preferred network instead of "Auto" mode. 3. If your WIFI is permanently enabled and you are travelling in zones where is no WIFI signal then phone sometimes lost WIFI adapter. In this case you are unable to enable or disable it and can't connect. The is no solution and only soft reset restore the WIFI adapter. I hope that Motorola will relise firmware update shortly which will fix these problems...

  • great phone beter than my old x1 this is the new winmobile i recomand you to test a3100 Cretain

  • x1 has 256 ram. its much better! and x1 runs on 7200A processor which means its has VGA@30Fps video recording. 7201A is limited to CIF@30fps

  • i can remember several years past ,about 2002~2004 when motorola and nokia exist governor but today i see same american or Europe people get korea phone ????!!!! and today this company samsung and lg , GRAB selling at market from this two giant i realy sury and veeeery amazement for this american guys that dont buy usa moto and desire junky Stranger wherea i live in iran( Middle East)and for 10 years just use moto phone from a1000,v3,v3i,v3x,a1200,e6,z8,zn5,a3100and all of above phone's work good today and now i think about superb dext and droid but i hope with these new super moto phone the king back to the real station ------------------------------------------------------

  • I wanted an Iphone but wasn't crazy about it's size, I'm very familiar and actually really like windows operating devices, had HTC Touch and really liked it (so much i also kept it...) but wanted a new phone, found this really sleek looking phone with aluminum cover, touchscreen and trackball, actually kinda looks like a small iphone with smoother corners, loved it's looks, comes with windows 6.1, Opera browser, WI FI, 3G network, decent 3 mp camera and many more accesories, decent screen size and more, had to have it. I don't regret it. Had it for a week, love it. easy handling, easy to operate, very nice interactive home screen and menus. Only dislike battery life, i talk a lot on the phone so i have to charge it every 2 days and some times the touchscreen dosn't have optimal response time, also dosn't come with big internal memory you'll have to buy a 8GB or 16GB micro SD if you want your songs and MP4's in your motorola surf.. Not an Iphone killer but if you'd like a nice upgrade for your HTC or windows OS smartphone I would really recommend this phone.

  • great phone gsm must review this phone

  • Just said goodbye to my A3100 yesterday. Bought it in Jan for about US$400 and got US$150 yesterday. Call me dump, I simply can't manage the Windows Mobile O/S, where simple tasks on most Moto phones get complicated with Windows Mobile. (of course the Symbian based Z8 was worse) I was in US last month and tried to look for a book on Windows Mobile but couldn't find any, so I gave up on this unit and wait for the Android based Mb220 Dext.

  • Zn5 s just 9000Rs in india..

  • The price of this smartphone is really good if including all of its features but after installing SPB mobile shell 3 the phone becomes very easy to operate. The battery and internal memory aren't the best thing I saw, the processor needs to bee better too. Except these things it's a good phone that does what it should do. If you want some cracks and PPC Programs go here: scrack.wetpaint.com

  • guys, dont be crazy about Android! It is fashion of the moment. It will get same destiny as Linux got. Simply compare number of games/gps software/organizers/etc. available today for WM6.x and Android. Free OS usually have unstable life cycle and have very high chances to die. Just lets wait couple of years and will see. But for today - WM devices are stronger and more stable than Android.

  • nice phone i want this phone

  • a3100 is best winmobile i perfer it to x1 good job moto

  • Lol, the Satio will be available next week!:)

  • but my friend today all able company try to use android os for beter interface , nice ,friendly and sensational and all people like this os and try to have it today se announce x2 with 8mp , win6.5 but with : 65k color display!!!dext 256 k capacitive (65k, one of Defect all winmo phones ) gprs and edge class 10 ?!!!dext class 12 internal memory just 110 mb !!!!???? dext 1gb and microSD just up to 16GB ?!!!!!!!dext up t0 32gb no live widget ? dext have live widget with motoblur no even digital compass no turn by turn gps and google map with street viewer ....... they must worked beter in x2 i think x2 cant challeng with moto dext or nokia n900 and its very good that u know dext price is around 400$ wherea x2: ~700-800$ and n900: ~800$ ======================================================

  • lol more megapixels doesnt mean better quality i bet u moto 5mp can beat se 8mp but satio when is avaliable in 2010 ????!!!! lol

  • It seems you know what company I like, the X1 has 3.2 MP camera, but the company announced their second Xperia phone, the X2. That phone has 3.2 inch WVGA screen, 8.1 MP camera, Winmob 6.5, not 6.1, etc! And about Satio, that phone has 12MP camera(not 3.2), 3.5 inch screen, Symbian OS 9.4! I hope you can understand how better is SE. I like Moto too, I hope they will make a cool phone, to compete SE, Samsung, or even Nokia. America is very advanced, so I hope...:)

  • how u can talk about 8mp camera and hate moto phone whereas all world can see this ,latest best smarphone from all able brand use this mp and even 3.2mp for their set in 2009 for example: n900 - htc tato - hero - iphone 3gs -samsung corby & blue earth -omnia pro - lg gw620 &lg gd510 and ...........more use 3.2mp then 5mp wherea dext is realy beter in very features than above phones at the moment ------------------------------------------------------ but i believe moto must make 8mp or highter mp CAMERA PHONE very soon but 5mp today is very good enough for smartphone today =====================================================

  • hey mobilemaster what about u talking this phones features is 100% like x1 if this phone is bad so x1 is very bad

  • You are right in some points, but don't forget people wants better phones, they want phones with more Megapixels, 3.2 MP is 2006 year feauture, now we are in 2009 October, Moto need to produce phones with 8MP, to competer SE, Samsung, and Nokia! Moto needs to survive phones with 8Mp camera(with flash), 3.5 inch WVGA screen phones(or with bigger screen), Symbian OS 9.4, more Google Android phones with great specs, eg 1GHZ CPU, 8MP camera, or 12MP, big OLED screen, big internal memory(Samsung has 8, and 16GB phones, Nokia now has 32GB phones! I hope they will survice, now Samsung dominates the American markets! What a shame!

  • nice phone i want review gsm like you guys

  • Please, please review this phone as soon as possible.....

  • very good phone i recommend you to use this different windows mobile with very good interface

  • gsmarena must review this phone we are waiting this phone is realy beter than all winmmobile full touch screen and very good price at copmpare other rival good job moto

  • and about 8mp complaints .... more megapixels doesnt mean better quality. without proper optic you cann't do anythig. and 3Mp which is common today is MAX solution for smartphones. wanna good picture quality - buy real photocam.

  • why you waiting for At&T or Tmobile branded phones if you can get fully unlocked via eBay? if you really like it - take it. btw, i have 2 of them, mine and my wife. Both are working OK, not perfect, but ok. For price like this and 3G, WIFI, BT, GPS - it is optimal solution.

  • Hi! I know about those phones, but MOTO still need an 8MP camera smartphone with at least 600MHZ CPU, at least 3.5 inch WVGA screen, and they need great smartphones with Symbian OS too! The biggest problems they don't have much phones with camera flash, and the biggest problem is Moto make phones for America!!! Why they don't make the Sholes worldwive? That phone is great, but will be availalble in some carriers, like At&T, or Tmobile! This is a mistake!

• If you want to know what Motorola is doing. Read Mororola CLIQ (DEXT) and Motorola SHOLES ?????

  • this a good handphone, i like n very like, coz aperfect for anyone, elegant, n smart..if acan i buy but little expensive, hehehehe, thx

  • a3100 just like x1 minus slider keybord every thing are same good

  • If Motorola wants to survive, and if they want to enter in the smartphone game, they need to put these things urgently:8MP CCD camera(or CMOS, CCD is new technology for them), 3.5 inch WVGA screen, Symbian V9.4 with 600MHZ CPU, Wi-Fi(in many phones they don't put Wi-Fi(big mistake)). They also need a Google Android phone, with good camera(with flash!!!), 3.5 inch screen, 8MP camera(not only 5MP) If they will make these things, they will grow very fast!!! I hope they will announce great things at Mobile World Congress next year(I hope for a 1GHZ CPU device, with 8MP camera(with flash ofcourse), 3.5, or 3.8 inch WVGA OLED screen :) ) We will see what will happen.

  • i think moto could do with a 1500+ mAh battery, rather than mere 1170 for a phone this size and features

  • camera is like in all other phones ... nothing special. led flash if weak, when you enable it for first time - its doesn't switch off until first shot. shot button works in two levels. half press - focus to object (many times failed to adjust focus correctly), full press - capture. battery is weak - almost empty at end of second day. phone sometimes slowing down without any reason - like slightly freezz. Sound quality is good, but signal strength is bad - in places where RAZR v3 works perfectly (like elevator) the A3100 lost connection ...

  • nice

  • how is camera and mps player (speaker voulom) qulity ? i want buy this phone

  • nice design and good features after zn5 i will buy this one hello moto

  • good phone why gsmarena dont review it

  • its very nice phone for me battery worked about 2.5~3 days with normal use and i dont problem with it gps is very fast ,musice and call qulity is super but maybe 3 or 3.2" was beter like moto dext

  • yes, i must say the battery quality is not good enough. in my daily used (call, texting, browsing with gprs and wifi, music), in only last for approximately 18 hours. 100% in 7 AM, and 20% in something 9 PM. Maybe i should held my self from the temptation to tap this phone all the time :p, and use it just for phone (voice call and texting), maybe the battery can hold up to 1,5 days.

  • I think when we talk about design, it's relative and subjective. some people will say A3100 have a nice design and some won't. anyway I agree with the clear voice call of A3100. it's much better than SE P1 i have.

  • Didn't know the almighty brand makes "phones", as voice quality of its 5800 can't even match with that of A3100. My friend's N97 is even worse, as all I hear is the background noise instead of the person's own voice. Really wonder how certain brand claims it "Connecting People" when its so called "phones" can't even deliver crystal clear voice quality like most Moto phones.

  • very good phone and nice design when u dont use it how can say battrey is bad ??!!

  • most of a3100 are assembled in Chinese. quality is same as in HTY and CECT clones ... :(

  • Ugly phone, nothing special, short battery life

  • Later nokia do not use OS symbian anymore. So who's the ugly thing?

  • every world know moto design is nice and different from all im doubt to your sense

  • so u mean the nokia has nice designs? for constructions as a brick yeah you right but as a mobile phone? i dont think so...

  • Hi all, Today I've got not good news from the dealer that A3100 did not sale in central java & he doesn't know when this gadget will selling in this area. Also talked to selular shop senayan & all the item has sold out. Anybody knows to whom I have to find out?

  • Hi Folks, Why don't u make like a Motorola smartphone community & we call it "Mosphone" & we choose Leo & Ryo as a leader in Mosphone. perhaps the first programme is to share knowledge of motorola share the benefit of it. How do you think?

  • DEE only Agent of Motorola is SELULARSHOP , If this agent does not have this unit, you have to wait. You can go to WEB site www.selularshop.co.id or call 021 72781533 Motorola Shop at Senayan City.

  • hi joe, i don't know whether A3100 can use 32GB microSD, but in my A3100, i use microSDHC 8GB with no problem. for the office document, motorola include docs to go application, including zip to go and pdf to go.

  • Joe, maybe I can help you getting motorola A3100, you can contact me in Forumponsel, I use same name there. Thx !!!

  • Motorola announces MotoBlur, Motorola Cliq (Dext) Android smartphone :

  • This phone is currently being used in the biz i work for . It freezes ... ive already had 2 replacments ... its useless and would not recommend this phone for anyone except for young teenages.

  • I got my Moto Q9 (WM6.0) in Jan 2008, and I was able to switch languages anytime I want. I got my A3100 (WM6.1) in Jan 2009, and I was never told the language CANNOT be switched anytime. When I went back to the shop, the salesperson said, "didn't you know WM6.1 would only come into one language? You have to CHOOSE when you buy the phone, due to policy from MS..." I was never told when I bought the phone, or English version was even available. Around May / Jun Moto CS in my area started to offer English WM to be installed on A3100 FREE of charge. So I went to "upgrade" my phone back to English WM. Unfortunately, while I start to navigate the phone functions, I lost the ability to view (most) Chinese websites. Hope the Android based MB300 won't have such problem.

  • Its possible to change the language Motorola A3100 If anyone have experience, please help me.

  • Yes as to .flv using youtubeplay. See Haven't tried .avi.

  • visit this site: www.freewarepocketpc.net here u can find too many freeware apps, google there u can find those apps u need... P.S. A3100 doesnt have Radio cheers...

  • I'm not a very technical person...indeed I haven't downloaded much on my A3100, I do know for Windows Mobile (6.1)... - I must choose only ONE language. For computer and most usage, I prefer English. But for web browsing, I mostly view Chinese. So now my English based A3100 can't read most Chinese websites. (heard about "purchase" of certain software, but still not very stable) Such is not a problem on my WM6.0 Q9...English based and can view Chinese website perfectly. - need to download a software to use MP3 as alarm...which is a "basic" function for all non-WM Moto phones. - no software can make the phone to have a radio function Just for myself, I will not likely purchase anymore WM6.1 mobile handset...one is more than enough. (Hope Moto's next series of Android phones will be better...and make sure these Android phones support BT file transfer!)

  • very nice design

  • since it is windows mobile phone, u can use 3rd party apps for doing almost every thing, no need to worry...

  • A3100 is not multimedia phone. It is a business phone. So video play back is limited

  • Does A3100 can play .flv and .avi?

  • if u mean hard reset do the followings : turn off ur phone hold both the end and answer buttons, then press the power key, this will hard reset ur phone, cheers...

  • How can i reset my motorola a3100. please help

  • Hello, can anyone a3100 phone owners tell me on average how long can the battery last? Because I don't really believe that it lasts for 6hours as stated in the website. Please do give honest feedbacks! Thanksalot (:

  • does anyone know if this is an original motorola or OEMed from htc by moto?

  • ya unrivaled

  • best win mobile with best interface

  • Does anyone have a problem of A3100? It does not really last like it is said in specification. In a sales package, does it include CD driver and full vrsion manual? Without CD driver, how can I get connected to bluetooth Notebook? So, when it is said " memory is low", I cannot save a taken photo. I have to go "Task manager" and end all running programs. Is it normal for window mobile? Do I have to do this all the time before taking a photo with A3100?

  • Ooopz, sorry, what I meant in my previous post was a Nokia 6680 and not a N6880.

  • p.s. Sorry, what I meant below is not a "N6880" but instead a Nokia 6680 (3G). Motorola is best when it comes to build quality!

  • I've been a Moto fan since the StarTac days...and even before since Motorola is really known for their build-quality (try dropping a N6880 from the second floor of any building, hitting the pavement. You'll find the phone useless afterwards. While a V3X survived and still operates normally after such experience.) I'd like to buy this A3100, but it's not yet available here in the Philippines. One spec that draws me to it vs the LG Arena (which is also a good phone looking at the specs of 8Gb internal memory!), is that this Moto has a Qualcomm CPU. Now, anybody who knows telecommunications knows that Qualcomm is the first (or one of the firsts) and the most successful company who developed what we now call "3G". Although, 3G went to CDMA 1, CDMA 2000, and WCDMA, still, the company has my respect. Hello Moto!

  • Why A3100 does not show in US market? Does battery really last for six hours talking? I tested it once. One hour talking, a half of battery is gone!!! But I like a voice call sound quality. It is the best sound. So, anyone has a battery experience of this phone?

  • yup, u re right,as i know gsm arena never give review for motorola, why?

  • a3100 is absent at gsmarena ranking ???!!!! its joke its beter than even 5800

  • Looks like a great winmo phone. I just dont understand what happen between motorola and gsmarena. Gsmarena almost didnt give a reviews for many of motorola phones. For example moto zn5 and this moto a3100 surf. What happen to you gsmarena???

  • i see this phone today murning at market very nice design and handsome a3100 is like mini iphone great qulity and building and very very nice windows menu ! i want buy it this week

  • realy great phone one of best win mobile and best touch win mobile

  • Miles, would like to ask you regarding tom tom use with A3100. Where can i download the application and gps maps too? Thanks

  • latest news :

  • Has anyone had this phone to access it the internet succesfully via AT&T's GSM network? If so, where did you order the phone from? I cannot get it to work to save my life. I've done all those standard windows settings using wap.cingular and password.. Still don't work. I even had the largest data plan. I like the phone, it would be 100% better with internet access.. HELP Pls!

  • just bought this phone a week ago... i like it and no problem so far.. but there's 1 thing missing in my phone coz while looking for review of this phone before i bought this i saw that it has this "3D photo viewer" but i dont have it on my phone.. i saw it on youtube and other sites.. so sad coz i relly like to have tha app... is there someone here knows where i can get it? download it? anyway i like the phone... no regret of buying it.. it makes a WinMo phone different from the others!

  • YEAH! AGREE! im using v31 and its just SUPERB!!! i want this!!

  • Is the phone you mentioned being CDMA? Really strange that Moto seems to be concentrating on developing more CDMA phones recently, and the worst part is, it seldoms makes the conversion from CDMA to GSM....(unlike the StarTAC days when CDMA StarTAC was made into StarTAC X?)

  • motorola Sholes" is a 3.7-inch (480 x 854) touchscreen device that will make its debut in the U.S. in October, featuring: 512MB storage, 256MB RAM, support for microSD / microSDHC up to 16 GB (an 8GB microSD ships with the phone), a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS, and the expected connectivity (USB, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi), audio, and video formats

  • I love Motorola is one of the best brands I am currently using the HTC 8925 really good and my next purchase will be the Motorola A3100.

  • very good moto!

  • I have used more Motorola phones than most people have seen, I am a Motorola person. Going back to the Microtac and the Startac phones. I have used the V3682, v878, v690, v66, v60, v600, v620, v635, V3, v3i, v8, z8, z10. I am a Motorola guy, love the way they feel. The problems I am facing using this unit go well beyond the lack of a back button. I am unable to delete individual files from the notepad, I am unable to change the time from 24 hours to am/pm. When I try setting up a new e-mail account I am unable to enter the password because the keypad blocks it!? As soon as I remove it I cannot enter anything, so it is a catch 22. When you remove the battery or reset the phone you must always switch back to the memory card so that the phone does not save files or pictures to the phones memory, not only that but it's definition of "M" is a pixel resolution of 320x240. I discovered this after taking 300+ pictures in crappy resolution. How about the poor bluetooth function. I am unable to remove anf files from the phone via bluetooth & when I save files it saves it to a folder rather than automatically comprehending the file designation, something that my old v635 could do. Trying to call a number from the contacts list without the stylus is next to impossible especially on the go. The keypad itself is improperly oriented and occupies too little space on the phones itself. There are no options to change this. When making calls on the phone it gets extremely hot and touching the phone with your ear in the wrong place can end the call. You can have the phone lock to avoid this, but then it is impossible to unlock the phone and use the keypad and speakerphone at the same time. If you want to check you credit card balance or calling a number which requires you to type through a menu.

  • everyone has his loves.in chinese is"众口难调"。but i love moto,i love A3100.wish you have a good time!

  • its realy great phone with nice design

  • So other than the lack of the "back" button, exactly what other problemS which you encountered on this phone that makes it sucks? Are you aware those problemS being common on Windows Mobile based phones or are they specific to A3100? Suggest you conduct further research before you start complaining.

  • great phone design is nice and features are complete whit wifi 3g radio and good cpu ...

  • i perfer to buy this phone perhaps u say apple is beter but i never change motorola whit many EXPERIMENT to apple that only make 2 phone at last i thinck about a3100 and qa4

  • Sorry but this phone sucks, I am using it every day here in Korea and I feel like killing myself. My girlfriends iPhone is easy to use, and has a great interface. Though is extremely limited other than being a media device. This phone is very uncomfortable for me to use even as just a phone. Some of the features make no sense. And yes you need a back button so you dont have to start from the beginning when you make a mistake or go to a menu by accident as the touch screen is awful.

  • its my Favorite

  • i heard they're pulling out motorola here. maybe it's not profitable here because of the larger preference of filipinos towards nokia..

  • Have you ever seen a hardware back key on any Windows Mobile Professional device? Mostly don't have it because you don't need that, you just need click, click and click when you know and want to learn.

  • The slim MOTO A3100 compliments your multi-faceted, fast-paced life by offering a wide range of connectivity options. Access the information you need through a full-touch tablet device running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Multi-task with rich features, including work and personal email, mobile internet, and high-speed connectivity ideal for messaging, browsing and navigation. And enhance your experiences with video conferencing, GPS navigation, and RSS Reader serving up real-time feeds of news headlines, blogs, podcasts, and more

  • great phone but does enyone know how to down load and use skype on this phone I am having a lot of trouble please help if you can

  • can anyone tell me whether this phone is available in india please? what is the price?

  • hi,plz answer, i saw 2 types of Carousel menus in youtube videos, one with pictures and videos tab and another without it, are there different international versions of A3100? or u can customize Carousel menus? tnx in advance.

  • i wish motorola is still prominent here in the philippines... huhuhu >_< tried to visit some of the motorola branches in here and most of the units are phased out. its like they're not releasing phones anymore

  • i read somewhere that the video recording is VGA @30fps

  • When you want to give it away, I would be glad to take it.

  • wifi + 3g + moto = niceeeeeeee

  • Every phone has its problems. At least this one can't explode as every Sonny Ericsson!!!

  • Quality of A3100 certainly doesn't seem as "refine" as other "original" Moto products, including the good old A1000. (if somebody can convert my A1000 to support mini-USB plug, I'll continue to use it) Heard A3100 is OEM from a Taiwanese PDA phone maker. (and pls don't look down, afterall, HTC originated from Taiwan) So the quality... Am now thinking about getting the black gold version by trading in my silver one.

  • That is funny how you focus on one comment. There are numerous glaring problems with this phone. The unbranded version of this phone is absolutely awful to use. Yes the keys are too small. Why do I have to dial on an area that occupies 1/3 of the screen space when dialing? You dont comprehend what I am saying you pathetic twit? The f@cking keys are too small? Maybe you are a little person or just such a fat-ass that you sit around playing with your phone all day and have mastered it? Why is there no back button? Why is there no way to select individual files from the notepad folder rather than erasing them all in bulk? Which is the only option? Why do you have to press the power button on the top of the phone every time you want to use it? Have you tried using this phone for business? Have you tired using this phone to simply check your credit card balance? Go ahead try it. Then you tell me how f@cking great of a phone it is. And you gotta love a touch screen that is unresponsive, and requires a good amount of force to press any button. Now the funny thing is, try doing this without the stylus? Oh yes and the wonderful contacts list on this phone. I defy anyone to navigate through the contacts using their finger without messing up numerous times. And with no back key you have to literally start from scratch every time. It can take as long as two minutes to dial from this phone. How about text messaging on this phone? That's another wonder in itself? The problem is that Motorola did not test this phone in real world environment long enough.

  • i think u got ur phone from trash can and i think u have serious physical problems if u made those mistakes with this phone, how big a button should be? it should cover all over the screen?? :)) plz post reasonable comments

  • Sorry but this is a terrible phone. What makes it terrible? The touch screen itself is awful and cumbersome to use. It requires the utmost precision, and if you make a mistake, there is no way to go back to the previous menu, you must start all over again? Making a call on this phone is difficult with the tiny keys. It is a touch screen phone and Motorola could not come up with a simple numerical keyboard pad which occupies the entire screen when dialing? What in the world were they thinking? When you are browsing your contact list all Hell breaks lose. Why is it so difficult to find a contact on this phone? You end up accidentally in the wrong contact many times before you get the right one? And again, there is no back button to go to previous menu? The headphone jack does not work with any external speakers either:( I cannot change the background wallpaper no matter how many times I change the wallpaper? The bluetooth configuration on this phone is horrid, especially on a Mac. Did I mention how much the screen stinks?

  • i cant agree with everything u have said . cuz this phone does come up with a 65k screen but i dont think its that bad most of the phones today comes with 65k and 256k color screens only , most of the nokia s60 n series phones and xpress music phones comes up with 16 million color display . so it cant be that bad as u have mentioned . i think its cheap yes thats just becuz motorolas make cheaper phone models with good options than any other brands . comparing this with a apple i phone is really boring cuz the apple i phone may have a higher resolution display compared to most of the other phone models , but the i phones got its down side for eg - i dont want i tunes to download any music for me thats a waste of time and i dont wanna carry the i phone software cd in my pocket everywhere i go , eventhough i phone 3g comes with 3g speed connectivity i have no need of such a device without a front video call camera , i dont want a phone that does not have a2dp bluetooth file transfer i dont want an i phone without mms , or i dont want it with just a 2mp camera that can only take still shots . so comparing this with an i phone isnt good or wont proove anything at all . (no phone is 100% perfect u will never find such a device)

  • hi i want to know how is the video capture quality. is it VGA 30fps or some thing else. thanks please answer

  • nice

  • just 270 eur for this super phone voow its great i wana buy it

  • new moto android phone are in way guys great phone like morison & ironman and ...

  • which of them do u suggest?htc touch HD or a3100.

  • As a matter of fact my only experience with Windows mobile devices has been via the Mpx220 & Mpx300, but that was some years ago. And yes, you are correct that Windows mobile devices typically do not have high pixel density. But I felt the phone lacked the pedigree and refinement that this phone should have. If Motorola can make this phone with Android OS/5mp camera/8gb of integrated flash memory/better screen it would be killer.

  • This phone is sooo cute. :)

  • beter size than iphone and beter features excellent moto

  • im confident to a3100 ability

  • Before you complain about the screen of A3100, did you ever use "comparable" Windows Mobile based smartphones from other brands? From my limited understanding, most (if not all) Windows Mobile phones only support 65K color, vs. 262K on most other (common) phones, including most (except low-end ones) other non-Windows mobile Moto phones. So if you tried other brands' Windows Mobile based smartphones and reached the conclusion A3100 is the worst, I would have nothing to say. If you only compared with iphone, you practically compared an orange with an apple. (bcoz I can easily say I don't need any itune to download any file into A3100 vs. iphone, and I can bluetooth any file I want on A3100, does that make A3100 superior?)

  • I am glad I will only be using this phone for several weeks in Korea then giving it away. I wish I could understand why Motorola chose to put such a low-quality screen on this phone. It is really such a nice design, it could have been stunning actually if they used more metal and less plastic. But the screen is awful, poor viewing angles as well. Everything is so "blocky" and it reminds me of screens on slightly older cell phones. The low pixel density is very noticeable and in certain functions just looks plain cheap. Videos look horrific on this thing. I don't comprehend why Motorola took this route when all previous phones have superior pixel density all be it much smaller screens. If you are used to the iphone or ipod touch, using the touch screen on this phone will feel like a psychotic episode. And for most functions including typing anything, you will need to pull out the stylus. Having to press the power button every time I want to use the phone feels odd. Doing anything accurately on this phone is impossible with your finger. I would not suggest this phone to anyone. This is just a cheap phone in a disguise.

  • can any one help me and inform me from where i can buy this phone , thanks

  • i bought this phone yesterday and returned the next day. i had great hopes for this phone but the lag and picture quality was extreamly to much to keep this phone just on good looks. i recommend know 1 should buy this phone

  • crap as every other motorola

  • for the person who asked about availability in middle east, it is available (through the dealer) in dubai @ around 520usd

  • best winmobile beter design than x1 and same features

  • gsm arena pl review a3100

  • The recommended retail price is USD $458 in Singapore. So I reckon that the particular retail shop is selling too high.... Check out this link. The retail price is with network contract.

  • I had been using it for like 3 months since it first launch. The user interface is very user friendly and most important is, the hardware is very stable (don't hang easily) as compare to other Window PDA phone. Overall it is a nice phone to have.

  • The specs look great and You Tube demos sure make this phone worth a try. A big thanks to posters who are honest at GSM Arena.

  • I hate spammers. I am not saying that for the current comments but there are peole who right a bad comment and then leave. How can you say a phone sucks 1) without using it 2) without explaining why 3) and generaly why to write a bad comment? Is it because you had a bad day? I can't understand these people. I some time repported a comment but nothing happened. Please GSM arena, lets keep this site clean :)

  • Thank you for replying, i bought the phone already and expecting the delivery in the few coming days, cheers

  • Because PhoneArena is a Bulgarian website and here in Bulgaria people think Motorola is some kind of cheap-lowquality Italian brand. I hope Motorola doesn't go down like Siemens - we still have the M75 at home and it's better than most of the mid-end phones on the market now.

  • i agree, one look & play with this a3100, quickly gave it the flick

  • It seems that this phone will be released only to a limited number of countries. At present is not available in the Middle East, Greece UK and a few other countries. Having asked around Saudi Arabia I was told that this phone will not be marketed here. Im waiting for an official answer from Motorola Middle East however. I have notice that a lot of you out there are comparing this phone with iPhone. You have to remember that Motorola A3100 is a Business phone and not an entertainment phone. The people this phone is targeting are not he same as the iPhone. You may want to compare it with HTC, E-Ten, and other PDAs to be more reasonable.

  • yes it has (at least english version, for chinese I don't know)

  • can anyone confirm if this model has the business card scanner feature?

  • Which shop sells A3100 for over A$800? The phone costs US$400 in HK. The shop must be ripping people off...is it an authorised distributor?

  • Motorola generaly make great phones, however this A3100 AINT one of them. This phone could not be a serious contender to the IPHONE, HTC, NOKIA or SAMSUNG high end product. Given the cost here in Australia, almost similar to the iphone, one look at this attempt, what would you buy?? For a start the screen resolution is dreadfull. At over 800 bucks Aussie, you would have to be a sandwich short of picnic to buy this thing when very clearly there is better out there. Good luck Motorola!!

  • I really wanna know why gsm arena didn't review this phone!!!"or any other moto"!!!This phone simply rocks!I was wondering f any1 knows anything concerning the price!

  • review this super phone gsm

  • Sorry for being out of the topic, though may I ask exactly how can you send photos from your iphone to anyone? (don't tell me you've to put it as an attachment in an e-mail) And how long have you been using your iphone? My wife got hers in Aug last year, exhanged one around Oct. (as the phone simply went blank for no reason), and after she downloaded some "official" games from App Store 2 weeks ago, all of the sudden she couldn't dial to anyone except those in the phonebook. The staff at Apple Service told her she needs to shutdown the phone every once in a while so to ensure all applications are turned off, (Of course she knows how to press the "x" button in normal situation) otherwise the applications may take up much (RAM) memory or something. (and strange for the fact if something goes wrong with the memory, why the phone still memorizes those in the phonebook instead of the dial keypad?) For the iphone owners I know they've exchanged at least once. Meanwhile, I haven't exchanged any Moto phones I've bought since...over 14 years ago.

  • pleaseeeeeee GSMARENA review this phoneeeee!!!!

  • but i like a3100 so much becuse this is (((((motorola)))))

  • My iphone can dial any numbers at anytime. I can send photo's to anyone I want just press the send button. I do not have to send my iphone in for service, but I guess the moto does lol. I have never had to reset my iphone to close apps, simple just close the apps (psst hit the little X) hehe. Don't worry I have had moto phones and I like them too,Lol

  • No offense to iphone, as my wife is using it and she loves it. For internet, yes I do agree iphone beats the hell out of A3100, which I also own. Though I don't exactly agree with the other points you made. Battery life is overall pretty good on my A3100, which uses the same battery as my Q9 (and even the good old E770), which means when I'm out of power, I can easily swap the battery from my other phone. Don't think iphone can ever do that. Last week my wife's iphone could only dial numbers from the phone book. (which has never been a problem on any of the Moto phones I have used, including "smart" phones like A1000/E6/Q9/A3100, etc...) Just before we took the phone for service, we took a snapshot photo together (on the street). Oops! Photo might be erased during service! Bluetooth transfer to any of our other phone? Sorry, don't think iphone can do that. How about send the photo via MMS to our own phone numbers? Sorry, don't think iphone can do that! She had to wait til we got home and used itune to transfer the photo back to the desktop....which meant we missed taking the phone for service...on Sat. How about taking the phone for service on Sunday? Sorry, iphone service isn't available where I live. (Moto opens from 1100 to 1800 even on Sundays) Finally, my wife took her iphone back to service, which the staff took a few minutes to restart the phone, and the conclusion / advice was "you need to turn the phone off every once in a while to make sure the applications are turned off" Oops! I've been using my A3100 since Jan and I don't think I ever turned off my phone, and it works fine. And yes, I do wish the font size on my A3100 can be enlarged like the iphone, so I can really use my figures to operate everything...instead of using the stylus. And need I mention about the voice quality of my A3100 which beats the hell out of iphone...as well as most other brands (especially the I?music brand's bar phones) in terms of clarity.

  • Bought a a3100 and returned it the next day, very disappointed, internets terrible, battery life is poor and for all the features it claims to have, there not that good. Guess I'll stick with my iphone.

  • Mind to share with us which phones (unlock and no contract) that offer the features you mentioned for under US$70?

  • This phone can actually hold upto a 32GB Mirco SD card. Looks like one of the best Windows based handsets ever. Nice size, pretty lite and the track ball looks easier to use then the touch screen. Can't wait till its released to Australia to try it.

  • Motorola lover.... For being a "motorola lover" you dont have much knowledge about motorola's phones. They have several phones that have: - camera - mp3 - bluetooth - memory card slot & all are below 100 bucks....hell, you can get many phones for under 70 bucks with these requirements.

  • very nice phone .EQUAL features whit x1

  • sin radio no sirve esta mierda

  • im sure a3100 is one of best winmobile all touch screen today

  • Moto is already offering phones with your so called "requirement" for about US$100. The latest promotion where I live is the U9, which sells for US$90 unlock without any contract. Meanwhile Moto's A810 is one of the cheapest touchscreen phones around...now being sold for about US$128. Let's see when will the almighty / i?music brand ever offer a touchscreen phone for under US$200

  • There is a fantastic built-in 3 mega-pixel camera feature which includes a Digital Zoom, Auto Focus and a Flash ensuring the user can take the best photo possible. Also the dedicated camera key function enables the user to manage and operate the camera features with ease. Recording video footage is a must with the built-in recording facilities featured on the MOTOSURF mobile phone. The video player plays in MPEG4 and WMV video formats. There is a second VGA camera that allows the user to participate in video calling with other users with this capability user can enjoy speedy connections with the MOTOSURF's built-in web browsing technologies which include WAP 2.0 XHTML, HTML and RSS Feeds. Other technologies supported to assist the browsers for quick and speedy data and file transfers are 3G HSDPA GPRS and EDGE. Connecting to other compatible devices is a simple and straight-forward process with the Bluetooth with A2DP technology and Micro USB technologies are available. HSDPA enabling the user use their MOTOSURF handset abroad with the roaming facility

  • I just bought a a3100. I will recieve it by Wednesday and hope to post my review.

  • does anyone...know when motosurf will.. launch in the middle easy...cause im really looking forward for this....

  • Always Moto rocks||||| Moto Should be the leader in Mobile Field

  • to all Motorola R & D team... do you ever go to the market and ask what is the market need? please go to asia region... and forget ask your bosses need, how many people had much money like your boss? consider integrated features ( is a must requirements !!! ): - camera - mp3 - bluetooth - memory card slot - below 100 USD

  • comparison between 65k - 265k - 16m wud me more noticeable if theyre using high pixel, u can only notice it more like when u apply it to ur desktop pc, so in phone, its unnoticeable, motorola preferably, use 256k rather than 16 unlike with the nokia, but seriously u will notice which is sharper and vibrant, in their case, lcd technology, u shud go for it not only by the color, motorola lcds is much better than nokia have, thats one of their advantages over such phone brand.

  • If so, all Moto phones being released for the past year or so must also be selling very well...because this site hasn't reviewed any Moto phone ever since...(the StarTAC?)

  • Must be this phone selling like hot cakes, so GSMArena cannot get a hold of one of these for review?!

  • Actually you mean MING series because there isn't any 'a' series and all of Motorola's touchscreen phones untill now were (the most of them) MING. A3100 has opened a new series called SURF and i hope we'll see some new smartphones in this series otherwise Sanjey Jha is a lier because he promised at least 10 smartphones in 2009!!!! And i hope he didn't mean the 3 of them will be 'Q' series

  • i love motorola A seriese because they very nice and touch screen.i like A3100

  • it looks cool lol

  • GSMArena Should review this Phone.

  • I have a Z8 which is 16M colour display and I can't see its differences with my E2,Z6 or E8.All I see is the same display.

  • man this mobile is good... but im not sure if it has launched in the middle east.... moto didnt produce many mobiles... but this one is a dream phone... honestly... its good stlyish and i already have moto rokr e8.... awesome shit man.... seriously....

  • best winmobil touch screen

  • i just bought a motosurf and im trying to figure out why everytime i receive calls..my phone doesnt ring ..all i get is a message writing cnap notification...when i tap the screen i could receive the call...any help?

  • Human eyes can't tell the difference between 256K & 16M?!

  • I love motorola & touch screen style , but why many screen display of motorola never in 16m colors.

  • very nice phone i like it

  • y this phone has no radio.

  • i think your basing your opinion on past moto mobiles like v3 which to me isn't fair are utterly disappointing comparing to nokia and se. trying using the new models like v8 and after that then u will see how great their phones has improves compared to other leading brand and pretty much better than nokia and se which i had used(nokia 6233 sony p1i) i am using moto e8 right with nokia i am having all sorts of problems with its bluetooth and more problems after that ended up sending for service lot of times which is a hassle while sony is good as a whole but call quality is really tinny and it captures your surrounding when you talk all in all if ever i would upgrade my contract i would love to upgrade to this moto phone but its screen is too small for me to view vids....

  • Motorola still produce excellent phones, especially with their voice call quality! Nokia phones are not bad to use, majority of users like them, but most of them are quite ugly & they also overheat! Most SE phones have nice design with good looks, the best interface & most user friendly menu. Voice call quality definately not the best - they absorb too much of the surrounding noise...Motorola "Crystal Talk" took care of this issue. Younger generation love SE phones. I always stay away from Korean phones. LG phones are not as good as Samsung overall. I'd always find a lot of different problems with Korean phones! Although some of their design are quite nice, they arre really not that nice to own! HTC phones(from Taiwan) are pretty nice looking with a lot of features, but sound quality is extremely lousy. Practically speaking, my number one choice is still Motorola, then SE or Nokia...

  • Moto did great things to change the market... long ago! But what is happening to them now? Have they fallen sleep behind the wheel? Look at LG and Samsung! They are thriving like raving lunatics and there is hardly any competition from HTC, Nokia or SE... While Korean phone companies are reporting profits, all other companies are posting losses!! Why? Probably lack of innovation, resources and what not! The result is the same! To be successful in the current market you have to evolve and adapt! Otherwise, you just grow old, boring and die!

  • Hi, Can anybody tell me if the back is metal all out. Thank you. Bob

  • i perfer to buy a3100 and contrite to x1

  • Strange for the fact Moto developed charging via USB since V3/E680 came out YEARS ago....and in late 2008 early 2009, we only see a micro-USB "plug" by the almighty brand which does NOT support USB charging! For the I?music brand, have you heard conversation from the owner of such company's bar phone, particularly in noisy environment? How many YEARS has such problem persist? Any solution when Moto already moved on to Crystal Talk II...which makes a phone a PHONE, not a PMP! Not to mention the average screen size for such brand... Moto does have its own attributes which mostly get unnoticed due to poor marketing team of the company.

  • i think the design is best into all win mobile touch screen

  • best winmobile at world is a3100

  • Sure...Moto has plenty of divisions, that I know. I'm talking about the mobile phone division alone!! Which horribly pales in comparison to... well, practically every other well-known brand out there... Take your pick!

  • motorola a3100 is beeeeeeeeeeest at world

  • freescale is motorola's semiconductor division and if you have any idea that nokia is using freescale cpus such as 5800 so you can consider this nokia is working for motorola , and he don't need to release plenty of same phones with various size and colors for making people to buy more and more

  • Yes, I know!! LOL!! But Moto is still far, far, far behind Nokia and SE. At least they are still trying to come up with new devices (N86, Idou). What is moto doing? still using its sad and pathetic Rzor design! Moto should be put to sleep to end its agony and misery!

  • you don't know anything about the history of those companies and about how big is motorola and what could do ,nokia and se are nothing against motorola so go talk about them in their spot

  • Your comment is lol in fact take a look at SE and Nokia before talking about Moto!

  • The comments here! LOL! Make me laugh! This is Motorolas last dying breath! I can hear ALL the other touchscreen phones (no matter how low-end) laughing at this sad, useless, boring,POS!!

  • The Motokeyboard can be used in both landscape and portrait orientation. But since it's rather large, you won't be able to see much of the text that you're typing in landscape mode. the default winmo keyboard/handwriting options are still in there, so you can switch to them, no problem. i was hoping for more hardware buttons (or a taller screen), since there's a large amount of unused space between the screen and the call buttons.

  • how is the keyboard is it qwerty landscape?

  • muito giro!

  • Please review this phone, GSMArena!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gsmarena must review a3100 and other motorola phone

  • Hi Ed, the keyboard is ok. It will need some getting used to but the general experience for this model is quite good as they do integrate a larger "keypress", Motorola "keyboard" style. Thus its easier to key those long messages so no worries & fire away. Regards

  • only motorola

  • Thanks for your review. Because of the features, I'm torn between buying the Motorola A3100 or the Palm Treo Pro. I like that the A3100 has a better resolution camera and flash(light), and also better talk and stand-by time. The thing is that I've always used a (physical) keyboard. My question is, how would you rate the writing experience in the different applications in the A3100? Thanks.

  • I bought a A3100 back in March. Uses a Destinator Map, which quite honestly works pretty well under wide open spaces. To be fair I think the camera 3.2MP and resolution is pretty ok for its pricing; anyways Winmo only supports 65K resolution, SGD$368 with a 2 year plan. The screen is really good. Its no where the type of touch feel compared to I-phones' but hey its certainly worth a try. In short good cheap reliable GPS, PDA cum phone.

  • very very nice design i see it in the market and i wana buy it this week great phone

  • one simple example is zn5 zn5 , k850 ,c902 , g810 , lg renior , n82 ,6620 , n95 all are 5mp camera (even samsung i8510 8mp) than you never cant compare picture take with zn5 with other model and zn5 is beter than all above phone

  • thanck you dear sadegh for your attention realy this is true the numbers and digits that write for the SPECIFICATION unit isnt VICISSITUDE and just in operation we can see reality when my v3x lcd that make 2005 is beter than even n73 k850 and very other phone after several years and my z8 too and now you can compare zn5 and n82 lcd then you understand whats realy clarity and sharpness .

  • Maybe never! As from my observation (through SMRT around many stations, from downtown to suburban areas) a few years back, the almighty brand captured nearly 80% of the market share, and most others (maybe except Samsung & SE) were not really agressive about marketing their mobile phone products in the beautiful garden city. I really like most aspects of the garden city, except the fact 80% of the time I can only hear the specail tone by the almighty brand...and the fact catching a cab (other than hotels) seems like winning a lottery. Overall people are rather polite as they speak very softly in trains, which I really appreciate. (Total silence in Japan is a bit over...)

  • motorola 320x240's displays is also sharpen than all other vga devises as you can see just compare z6 to k850 or n78 even z6 is 1 years older than these so now you can compare a3100's display to XPERIA X1 you can obviously watch which one is better absolutely a3100 even by lower resolution

  • Looks too round for me. These days a device that costs 500+ bucks has to be also appealing to the eye. Extremely simple design doesn't always win. 240x320 is outdated resolution, not enough for comfortable web browsing with all these high speed networks. Really, i'm waiting for 3 years for a phone upgrade together with resolution upgrade to at least VGA. So far only HTC, SonyErricson and ETEN have come with VGA/VGA+ winmobile devices and I'm thinking to make the move.

  • this is the surprise from motorola great features and performance

  • magical winmobile its iphone real killer

  • it's the best style and the best phone ever please don't compare it to XPERIA X1 with such a cheap style

  • When this will be available in Singapore?

  • superb

  • i want to buy this phone the price is reasonable and inexpencive than other windows mobile

  • very nice design i love it and great features.thancks motorola for make this unit gsmarena please review this phone were all waiting

  • both model are great phone but a3100 is realy beter design and very good look stylish

  • ALMOST all features are same in a3100 and x1 than radio and .2" big display for x1 and a3100 has one version up OS than x1(Qualcomm 7201A 528 MHz),Handwriting recognition, gprs Class12... AND: x1 IS 50EUR MORE EXPENCIVE THAN A3100

  • my boss like this phone...i will do my best to bring it to him...cuase i love my boss..

  • good phone, but Xperia much more better...

  • overview a3100

  • gsmarena plz post a review of this phone...

  • a3100 is realy at 5top phone today at world that are Available very nice design and excellent features

  • thanks to gsmarena for edit a3100 specifications : 3.5mm audio jack

  • dear friend a3100 is widows mobile and like all widows mobile has 65k color exampell : x1 htc touch hd and ...

  • this is stupid ... an overall ok phone with a 65k colour screen ??? are they serious ?? how can they compete with N97 or lg arena ??

  • a3100 has 3.5mm jack gsmarena dont write it ??!!

  • Great!!!!! its like a pentium 1 in your pocket

  • the screen better not be too small at 3.5 inch would be perfect 4 it can somone tell me what size the screen is in inch [email protected] if it can be updated to windows mo 7 then this will be so cool im gonna buy it sell it and then make lots of money coz its not released in irland and u.k and most cuountries

  • Yes, very nice design! Think it's great. Is this device upgradable to windows mobile 6.5?

  • yes best design like ever a3100 best winmobile touch screen

  • Excellent voice quality ; 3.5mm audio jack; great build quality;good 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED ; great processor ; nice design ;nice interface

  • It has been a long time since Motorola has made a touchscreen Windows Mobile handset. There was the dual-hinge MPx300 announced in 2004 but that model was canceled after a limited release in a few Asian countries and can be considered a rarity these days. Today, we have the Motorola Surf A3100. Though it isn't an attention grabber like the MPx300, at least it is available now at S$638 without operator subsidies. Design: First announced at CES in January, the A3100 does not have a physical keypad. While some may balk at the liberal use of curves on this model, it's actually a refreshing departure from all the predominantly black or silver devices with straight edges. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but will be a good option for those bored with the more serious-looking phones. While the A3100's shape and size may not garner universal approval, the use of materials is definitely top-notch. The bezel surrounding the front has a shiny metallic finish, while the back is constructed out of matte metallic material. Though the device isn't exactly light at 120g, the build quality is excellent. Notice the trackball below the screen. (Click for larger image)Below the screen display is a trackball in the center and the Call and Hang up keys. There are no physical softkeys, so getting to contextual menus will require you to touch the bottom part of the screen. The trackball is similar to what you find in many BlackBerry devices. This navigational tool worked fine for the most part and acts as a selector when depressed. Though you can adjust the sensitivity in the settings, we found it not as responsive as BlackBerry's implementation. Also, given the available space below the panel, it would have been great if Motorola gave us an OK key, too, just so we don't have to keep moving our thumb up to the top-right corner to get out of menus and applications. A power button sits on the top-left corner of the device, one that is unnecessarily tiny which made turning the set on difficult at times. On the left, you have dedicated volume controls, and on the right, a camera shortcut. The A3100 comes with a microSD card slot found behind the battery cover. Swapping cards does not require you to remove the battery, so that's good. Syncing is done using a micro-USB port on the left edge. While some may lament the use of micro- rather than mini-USB, we don't find it a big deal because the industry will be transitioning to micro-USB and it will be pretty common soon. Music lovers will be overjoyed to know that there is a dedicated audio port on the A3100 of the 3.5mm variety. This means you will be able use your favorite headphones without having to mess with adapters. A 3-megapixel camera is found on the back and this comes with autofocus and an LED for lighting up darkly lit subjects. There is also a VGA camera on the front, above the screen, for making video calls.

  • never change a3100 whit other phone

  • Guess u missed the A1200.. most probably u will have stashed somewhere with those Gems... any body who complains about MOto has never modded his phone , I bricked my moto after umpteen unsuccesful tries to Brick it. Moto has had their bad days and always they have innovated..and ppl have copied them...

  • Come on gsmarena we are all waiting for the review of this phone.

  • Hi everybody i had my internet problem fixed.I insisst that this phone is more than simple. For instance i saw my friend's blackberry storm and i asked my self what is the big deal about that phone. The only thing in which i am going to accuse motorola is that it hasn't come in greece Y E T. I don't understand! We excist too. Why is everything for China only? Is because the president of Motorola in greece is(.......) or what?

  • this phone is nothing special at all but i guess its special for moto? i mean no one expects much from them anywayz. moto come out with something that more people would even consider buying. possibly have a look at nokia, samsung, htc, LG, SE if you've run out of ideas. or maybe try make another razr phone like razr4xxxy, razr5yxyx or even aura2000.....fail :P

  • hi guys im come back from vacation

  • Yes. These kinds of phones are probably out by now but not this one. Cool to feel in when you hold in your hand, amazing form factor and very fast. Good Job Moto :)

  • In my experience Motorola phones do not give any more trouble than any other phone on the market with a similar design. I think the people that had bad experiences with Moto were people that owned the original V3 RAZR. Those phones were very fragile and they were bound to be. A flip phone that thin is prone to ribbons breaking and not being able to absorb shock when dropped. The A3100 I said a while back in the comments is well positioned in the Touchscreen PDA phone segment. The only other alternative is the Touch Diamond. This beats the Diamond in Quad Band, Card Slot, Processor, LED Flash, 3.5mm audio jack. Nicely done Moto.

  • I would like to see a review of this phone by GSMArena it looks very ....boring and 2008 stuff but i think it's a little underrated i know that motorola make pretty sturdy phones with good batterries (at least they made them a few years ago) and i read that the speed and response of this device are excelent. If it has a reasonable price it would make a best seller pretty fast everyone wants to see specs (camera, screen, megapixels and etc.) but the actual performance of the phone is a totaly different thing and i want to know a users opinion about the device .

  • Very nice phone

  • To late with this phone Moto, that kind of phones are already on the market... And also it is nothing special...

  • nice phone now motorola is the one that make a real phone around others great design and very good radio features this is what we need

  • Sorry, I only have the 2nd generation DynaTAC, which is a "reduced size" version of the original one, which first came out around 1991/92. Guess the person who complained so much about the quality of Moto phones never owned one of these...

  • This looks like the one for me I still have my Moto A1000 but the battery no good and nothing out there comes close can I get one of these please and where from I dont caRE HOW MUCH IT IS

  • Your post reminded me of my "good old days" while using MicroTac 8700. If I'm not wrong, the MicroTac was the first with flip phone design, then came Elite which was slimmer and then Star Tac, probably the smallest, thinnest, flip phone around back then. The Microtac battery was probably the size of many current phones, imagine the technology advancement between these years. You should start a Motorola phones museum some day.

  • Wow..You still have that DynaTAC? I think it's the first cellphone in the world. You got a great collection. The almighty brand also has some issues with their phone such as 3230,3250,etc. The almighty brand has some bad reputations now..:D

  • moto NEVER claim that this is a HIGH end phone, its just a Mid range phone with an affordable price. when you ppl keep comparing this with HTC, X1 and omnia, have you ever put the price also in your consideration ? maybe you are rich but not everybody. you can show off you have X1 or 16G omnia, but some ppl just need a PHONE with good function and fair price !! and NOBODY stops you wasting your own money.

  • Moto phones don't last for more than a week? Let's see the following examples: - My 2 oldest Moto phones are (smaller version) Dyna TAC and MicroTAC Elite. The only reason these 2 phones no longer work is due to the network service provider...as nobody offers the AMPS analog network anymore. Though you're more than free to visit my home in US where these phones reside...they still function 100% in all other areas. - Then talking about my oldest GSM phone, being a Motorola P7689. Yes, it still works 100%. - The generation after P7689 such as V60i, V600, A835, A1000, etc...are still in my collection box. The phones themselves still "work" (both for calls and multi-media, as I saved quite a bit of video on my A835.) Moving on to the next generation with mini-USB charging plug...my oldest ones are V3X, E770 E2, V6, V3mass (i-mode), Z3, E6, Z8 etc...all of them are still working 100% All of the phones mentioned above are certainly at least 1 week old, if not 1 year... Currently I'm using Zn5, V8, EM35, Q9h, V9, A3100 with micro-USB charging plug, with my A3100 being the youngest being 2 MONTHS old. Not a single problem went wrong with these phones. Not to mention the K3, EM330, V191, W270, W510, V3maxx being used by my wife, sister-in-law, parents-in-law, and my mom....all with their Moto phones for at least over a month. - A friend of mine was using the almighty brand's "almighty" (slim) flipphone...which he dropped from about 1m height, and the flip then could be turned over 180 degrees, and the open-flip to answer function went to heaven at the same time. Meanwhile, his wife "is still" using Moto V3maxx (since it first came out) and dropped the phone from 1m height for at least 20 times, and the phone still works perfectly. - And here is what's going on at Moto service center where I live. Average waiting time - to drop off the phone...less than 5 mins. Phones under the 1-year warranty can be repaired (or mostly being replaced) within 1 hour, or even 45~50 mins. For comparision, the almighty brand, which has only 3 service centers (with sales volume at least 4 times that of Moto), would take at least an hour to "drop off" the phone for service, and then at least another 2~3 hours for "repair"....where sometimes the phones are not even "repaired" as the brand wouldn't admit such being a problem. If other brands are so problem free, suggest you to read the "extra feature" which came with those 5800....being unstable earpiece volume. Indeed, the visitors to Moto's service center in my area mostly only went there to pickup their new free phones (W270) by applying credit cards.... See if you can share with us with more precious examples as to which Moto models you sold had what kind of problems which were returned within a week. (don't tell me you sell ?-mobile phones in US, as this operator is well known for messing up good phones with its own software)

  • Hello Sir, I hope you could view my reply here with kind consideration and I didn't mean any disrespect to your early comment. I can respect your job on selling Motorola phones(or probably other phones as well) and definitely you'll have more exposure as compared to us, normal people. Coincidently, I'm also into managing, sales & marketing too but on other products which is also consumer related. I can understand your "angle of approach" when you said: "lol. well if motorola could build a useable phone that doesn't break a week after purchase- maybe motorola would have a bigger fanbase.", I can see the point you're trying to make that Moto phones are generally non-lasting or easily breakable. MAYBE to a certain extent you could be right (from your perspective) but I believe many others here do not agree with that. Yes, I'm a Moto fan, but my previous Z3, V8 and E8 did not break up or breakdown on me - not within a week, months or a year after I purchased them. To be fair, in general term, I don't believe other brands too have this problem eventhough some uses more plastic materials so that's in general term and I'm not refering to some isolated cases due to reasons that you and me could not comprehend. For me, Motorola is a good brand, the shortfall is on their marketing and not so much on their products, I believe 100 Moto, another multi-Moto phones user/owner/collector could second to what I said. I've accidently dropped my Moto phones before including my E8 which has no cover on it onto a marble floor from approx. 3 feet height and to my surprise, no sign of scratch marks or breakage since the front of it is glass, the side material I understand is of plastic and the back is metal. Furthermore, I don't think V3 back then could sell so much if it is as fragile. Therefore, I would agree that even if no one phone is perfect but they should last for a reasonable period. Anyone wants a really tough phone made for Robocop, try out Moto's Tundra VA76r. (LOL)

  • "Dear all moto haters, good work your very PERSEVERANCE at your work (hate) when a3100 and ve66 have 9.2 vote about 2week later and stand #1 & 2 in gsmarena ranking you start your work and now this phone have 8.4 vote shame ,, where are moto lover ? but never forget this:motorola is your OVERLORD alway" lol. well if motorola could build a useable phone that doesn't break a week after purchase- maybe motorola would have a bigger fanbase. i sell motorla phones for a living- i know firsthand how many hassles people who have never used a moto before actually go through. though since this is a winmo platform- i have high hopes for this phone. i could sell it as a cheaper alternative to the Sony Xperia or the HTC Touch HD

  • DAMN! it was supposed to be #1 phone in gsmarena! but thanks to moto haters it's not!!! it doesn't matter anyway 'cuz when motorola get started showing the android phones, sony ericsson will be, how can i say?

  • Dear all moto haters, good work your very PERSEVERANCE at your work (hate) when a3100 and ve66 have 9.2 vote about 2week later and stand #1 & 2 in gsmarena ranking you start your work and now this phone have 8.4 vote shame ,, where are moto lover ? but never forget this:motorola is your OVERLORD alway

  • Hi John, Just sharing information from my part, I agree with some HTCs and other WM PDA phones now are using higher screen resolution like 480 x 640 (as compared to 240 x 320), I also noticed at least one model even started with 16 million color versus 65K color screen. The finer details and color are more vibrant definitely and it can also mean higher usage of battery power. I believe it is more of marketing and positioning strategy by Moto rather than competing on the highest possible technology, so there are 2 different approaches here. At this point I must say my statement here are purely based on personal view, as part of my job involves managing a sales & marketing team myself, the decision on which range we intend to position a product based on which targeted market we are eyeing for will determine material use, component quality use, technology involve and lastly price point. Looking at A3100 and its price point, it is for sure not eyeing for the top of list with innovative technology of the year category. But A3100 can definitely beat out or matches some of its competitors with 128/128 RAM ROM, 3 MP camera, without flash, 400 odd processors and so on. I've also read from one website that A3100 comes with Crystaltalk, if it's true, then this is the only WM model that could give you the advantage of handling calls in noisy environment like other Moto phones. Motorola brand has been around for a long time, I know there are some unfavorable remarks by people who doesn't like it but it has never (at least not yet) shown its "instability" like other makers. Recently other WM PDA phone brands like Eten has "merged" with Acer, so did Asus, their future product will be named Asus Garmin. Usually a merger makes both companies stronger, if they are strong by itself logically they don't really need to merge. It could also mean one is buying over the other. This A3100 is definitely worth a second look and can be a strong contender at its price range, which is much reasonable than the higher range HTCs or Samsung with really good screen and importantly, it can just do its job as well as others. Since majority of WM PDA phone users are buying this kind of phones to better their working environment and productivity levels, I believe many are willing to overlook the high-end screen in exchange for a better price - especially in this kind of economic situation.

  • se x1 Palm Treo Pro HTC Touch Diamond HTC Touch Pro HTC Touch hd .... and almost all win mobile are -65k- color display omnia is symbian os not win mo and i cant find win mo from nokia ?!

  • Most of the high end HTC,Samsung WM phones have higher resolution - HTC Touch Diamond: 480 x 640 - HTC Touch Pro: 480 x 640 - HTC Touch HD: 480 x 800 - Samsung OMNIA: 240 x 400 Although, all of these phones above have one thing in common, they're 'slow' in term of performance... so you have to decide if you want nicer screen or better performance... A3100 is probably one of the fastest WM devices on the market

  • how much? ehehheh dude i can't fine the price.. what a loser i am ;(

  • Can you share with us which Windows Mobile based phone has better resolution than A3100? Thanks.

  • Long waiting line...

  • i dont see why this phone has such high voting results... Its nothing special, just a normal windows mobile device with touchscreen. It doesnt even have a qwerty keypad or slider, y is it better than x1 and n97? The features lack a whole lot. Its just another motorolla... y 8.9/8.9/8.9????? It deserves a flat 8.0

  • Mind to share your experience with A3100 once you get a copy? PS. I wish my unit runs on English WM...

  • A motorola fan for years.. and i almost gave up on them with their crap releases. Honestly, the last ever great phone that i ever used from motorola is their V3 series and e398. i almost gave up because motorola has never produced any greater phones, i was looking for 3g phones with video capable but when i spot a nice one, motorola doesnt have it. it's like old technology till im so sick of it. this a3100 is a wonderful surprise. i didnt realise it's been launched till i was browsing through my telco website in singapore, and found this phone. at first, i was like what the heck, another crap.. till i saw a WM interface and went "hey, this might be the ONE! " when i browsed the specs.. i fell in love with it. I lost my samsung Omnia 8gb due to theft, and am currently using an LG KS20 and SE K618i.. and im sooooooooo looking forward to owning this A3100! It's a dream come true phone at a reasonable price that i believe is able to fight an omnia though 3mp only! Good job motorola... always believed in you. 3 more months to contract expiring.. and i will definitely get this phone or i'll chop my head off!

  • my understanding is: - A3100 is NOT officially available in mainland China, as in mainland China Moto sells a 2G version called A3000....withOUT 3G (and the secondary cam) - The device likely comes with Windows Mobile in "CHINESE", which I asked and CANNOT be coverted to English (due to license problem) - The prices you quoted certainly are "not" official from Moto China, as its own website list other (higher) prices. If you can share with us regarding your source that would be great, as we can futher evaluate if such source is "trustful"....meaning the shops don't exchange parts/accessories...

  • the a3100 is cheap. it's not 450, it's actually 200/USD in china, & the a1600 is 210. im actually going to order mine this week straight fr there! if u want the site and the business email, let me know.

  • Hi. The max capacity of the microSD slot is 32GB. Heres the info at the a3100 oficial website: Rael B. Riolino Techzine.com.br

  • Alamak... Moto and Nokia are the same. Never wake up attidude

  • my first mobile was v3 - v3i - f3 - v3x - z8 - v9 - zn5 and now im looking for ve66 or a3100 and im realy very happy and ACQUIESCENT from my phone and never cant change motorola whit any phone from all brand first mobile phone maker at world and best only moto

  • Good that you've made up your mind on other brands beside Motorola. I always respect every individual's decision and I expect the same understanding from others too. Therefore, I believe we will probably won't be seeing you again in this forum so good luck to your new favourite phone brand site(s) where you could spend more productive time helping others in need of information.

  • motorola is the worese company in the plant, this company which go out of business. this phone is the wrosiest phone of all other and company. i will never buy the motorola phone in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still awating Moto's reply to all the new gen phones avalilable..

  • Dear Stuart Thanks for your explanation. I have more than 10 WM device, just wonder why this stuff can outsmart device such as the sony X1 or htc diamond etc., Just for curiosity sake!! Cheers anyway and have a nice weekend

  • sammy, The "rating" on this phone or any other phone models and brands are really subjective from my opinion. Be it Motorola, Nokia, SE, Samsung and others, the same person can visit and re-vote again and again even the number of Hits you see here could be misleading. Know what? I've been visiting gsmarena on my bookmarked phone model sites at the average of once every 2 days for the last 1 year, I've never put my vote on any phone models at all. Another personal experience I can share with you is that I rarely put 100% trust on website reviews anymore these days. I bought a Motorola H12 bluetooth headset AFTER reading so many mixed website reviews, some said it's a good unit and some said not. I realised some websites are actually copying the reviews from other websites. CNET actually said the H12 didn't perform as expected but I went against the reviews and bought it after testing out the actual unit physically at the shop. Until today, I'm really happy with its performance so I concluded that I'll probably accept a 30 or 40% trust on website reviews from now on and I'll just take them as a guide. I've read many product buyers actually blamed some websites for putting up a good review on something they bought and they bought them based on these positive reviews. So for me, a 7.0, 8.0 or even 8.9 votes does not really matter, the voting result only showed that "generally" many are favorable towards a product. If you're really interested on this model, I suggest that you check it out at the phone shops, feel it, hold it, press some buttons, if they allow, put in your sim card (if applicable) to test the voice quality and volume. By then you should be able to make your own decision. I'm just trying to be fair and realistic about this issue even though I'm a Moto fan.

  • are you fidgety for 8.9 vote for this phone ! this is first tuchscreen winmobile from moto after several years whit realy good design(the elegance design not VISIBILITY from picture in this site),features, performance and very good material like every moto phone , and every moto lover from all world waiting for thus pda phone and very soon come another model from moto that are even very beter than a3100

  • just cannot understand why is the rating of this stuff so high 8.8??? Please tell my why?

  • From my experience with Windows Mobile version 2002, 2003 SE, WM 5, WM 6, they all have Cut, Copy & Paste features. Just like a PC running on Windows, you can type out a sentence, highlight the full sentence to perform cut, copy or paste. You can also cut, copy or paste a file or folder from your PDA phone unit to its memory card. To me, a phone with PDA function, handwriting recognition with stylus and running on Windows Mobile OS is a good combination.

  • I tried that with SMS, yes, you can copy & paste. Or did you mean files or something else? It should work like other Windows Mobile devices.

  • Yes Moto ar going down but hope their will came back at the first range'cause still have best design and good prices.

  • c this!!! maybe motorola is a little quiet now.. prepare to lauch a powerful device

  • may i know does this phone has a 'copy/cut and paste' function like the E680i?

  • motorola NOWADAYS work to new great phone whit realy best design and features and performance like past and were hopeful moto very soon announce OFFICIAL motorola always is best

  • motorola is going down.. say bye-bye to them..

  • Mind to share with us what Windows Mobile / PDA phone you would get for: US$420 US$250~$300 US$180~$200 as of Feb 2009?

  • I just checked the price on this.. almost $420 USD and A1600 for $270 USD.. I used to have A1200 before so I looked these phone over, but the price kills.. You can get so many other options for $400-$450 range phones.. This phone should be more like $250-$300 range, and A1600 for $180-$200..

  • new motorola phone :

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA Kodak is not going to save the fact that motorola are going to hit this credit crunch harder than fat man falling off the empire state building!!! Really Motorola need to escape that crocked software there running and then bring a phone that does not look like a fossel or some kind shinney terd!! Kodak are not known for good len's, sony, cannon, carls zeiss, and even the SLR range of pixon. come on keep things up to date guys your miles behind.

  • I SUGGEST WE ALL REQUEST MOTO TO RELEASE THIS PHONE IN EUROPE&USA!!!. I have contacted them and they said it will be available in Europe "at the earliest" in Q3. I think that if it has 136000 hits here in gsmarena and they receive more than 10000 emails , they will gladly release it in Europe or Usa earlier.

  • In the past 20 years or so, I have noticed the Americans get more variety of cars (from Japan) than ever before, while the (Japanese) cars available in HK have shrinked.... Though the mobile phone market is another story, for such tiny place which requires additional software (to support 2 kinds of Chinese characters), different phone makers probably offer more than 90% of their (GSM) models in HK. Meanwhile, relatively speaking, US mobile phone market is rather boring with only a few (less than 10?) models from each company. Can someone help me to understand how it works?

  • this phone has a ugly design, what is motorola doing?arnt thay gona make the z12 kick slider, with wifi 5mp cam fm radio.

  • Motorola still make the best phones for calls...but without gadget that kids love.

  • motorola used to be known as a phone industry leader, but because the razor could only do they some good there on a sinking ship, nokia, SE, and Samsung are dominating the market, But all said with that Apple's next Phone will probably revolutionize the way we use cell phones period

  • You are right. I've been posting things in the motorola's forum but everyone has used to ignore me. I AM HERE. Even though i am from greece and we don't have moto a3100,ve66,em35 yet(and that's not our fault) I have been giving many informations on this forum till a month ago when i understood that only 'few real members' read our posts. Everyone else just writes a bad comment that is usually wrong and leaves.

  • hi dear 100 moto dont huffy for some guys word spoken maybe they are moto hater and enemy whit moto we will see you dont tired 100moto only moto

  • Several pages and about more than a month ago I already posted articles regarding the "official" price (or MSRP) for A3100 is US$400. Unfortunately seems like the culture of this forum some people simply don't scroll back and read the pages behind, and keep asking questions as to how much the phone costs, when the question was answered many times in the past. Then all of the sudden one guy came out and claimed the phone sells for US$510...and not even quoting the source being official or not, and some other people start saying "oh the phone is so expensive...." Maybe people don't appreciate my comments anymore, if so, maybe I shall retire from this forum as people don't seem to respect "real" users around here...

  • thancks guy i see this sait realy very grily for every rival only moto

  • this phone also sucks.. c'mon motorola.. plz make better phone like samsung or LG..

  • You are definetely gonna like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's an average touchscreen phone. If the price will be reasonable; surely they will come back into North-American market.

  • 400 - 500$ for this mobile in this class at compare whit other brand realy is low price and good

  • Where was Moto in Barcelona?? This is where you have to be to get awards. Cmon Moto, shape up now!

  • I bought this phone in January, I love this phone so much.....price is around $400 US

  • It doesn't cost 500 US dollars

  • Only 3.2MP camera in Y2009? Motorola still going backwards. Will be at bottom of the pack or defunct by end of year. Goodbye Moto! So sad.

  • _what???? uss 510!!! this is a good price for you??? for this equipment? for this price you can buy some much better!!! nevermind motorola is dead in the market of mobile phone world if not change your way to make the things!!!!

  • $510? US$? The guy is making at least $100 profit from his source...and whether or not if the WM version is in English...

  • Motorola had nothing to show at WMC? This is not so good

  • if the price is reasonable, i will for sure consider to own this phone. it juz too great! but when i get tis kind of phone, wat im afraif of is scratch. can get the protection layer easily? n window mobile, i nver tried before. I oni got experience in Linux. is there good software around? free or need to purchase? hope to see it in singapore soon.

  • already available: Price - 510 $ good luck!

  • i think motorola should create their own operating system and not use windows mobile. i don't like windows mobile. i reckon motorola needs to lift its game or the other brands will surpass motorola in no time.

  • I see a big score.People just want a simple on the view phone, with high end features and a low price.A3100 seems to be that.

  • A3100 will be available in European market for about 2 months, in some european regions sooner this is info from motorola stand at MWC

  • Is the Moto A3100 for European markets also

  • Dear M"r motofan.ir i dont say that Motorola A3100 not good, however you hear about... ---"Gigabyte g-Smart MS820"--- this excellent phone this es 9 point Have a wonderful day

  • toami do you realy think about infrared !!!ha ha its joke we are in 2009 year . a3100 is windows mobile not camera phone that have optical zoom !? however very very few camera phone today have optical zoom . a3100 have digital zoom and led flash

  • Just curious, how many phones released in 2009 still offer infrared, if not optical zoom?

  • Finally motorola released a phone to compete with all the newest releases on the market. They have been left behind for years. As far as i remember the V3 was the last revolution motorola made.

  • this is a smart phone(compare it to the Iphone)..no needs for high mp(5mp or 8mp)...surely moto will comes with grand 8mp or maybe 10mp in a new model based on Camera features..Just look at the ZN5(the greatest 5mp compare to n82 and others)..Better late than never..

I heard that this is having windows 6.1 OS with customisable home screen... and have a look at the design screen size is just perfect (unlike 5800 which is stretched vertically downwards) ...and its roller scroll key is so smart and trendy........ Moto Surf really rocks... breath taking phone ... I'll love to have this phone..

  • htc toch diamond 340 eur nokia 5800 280 eur (5800 is not win mobil ) while a3100 have update features than htc

  • Does Motorola A3100 have a Crystal Talk?

  • My guess is the phone will come in at the $300+ range. $400 will not be an acceptable price when you compare other phones in the same category: Nokia Tube (5800) - $400 mid on launch HTC Touch Diamond - $400 mid on launch Both phones have the same foundation of features (PDA, Full Touchscreen, Wifi, 3.2MP) plus a few more bells and whistles (accel, proxy sensor, tv out, fm radio). I wonder why Moto left out the accelerometer and proxy sensor. Those things seem to be all the rage now in PDA buttonless phones.

  • For both Mustafa and nicksti, I'm glad both of you guys are really constructive in your comments. Your comments were fair and reasonable eventhough we all have our own perspectives but I really like how well the comments were laid out. I've been & read many comments in other phone model forums here that were ridiculously rude, unprofessional and bias. Really appreciate both your comments here with positive approaches and if others could just do the same, we all could save more time avoiding useless & pointless posts. For Mustafa, fully agrees with you on the price point on this model. Since A3100 is positioned to compete against more established brands like HTC, Asus, O2 and the latest Acer that bought over Eten recently, initial market penetration is important to mark its present. I really hope its price could be more affordable & reasonable for people to grab them so that Moto could have a successful debut in WM PDA phone market. Have a good day and looking forward for more from you guys here.

  • best of west every thing are excellent :design , material , camera ,wifi, 3g,sound .volume , lcd , motorola

  • Remember a stylus vs finger really is a market segment thing. I think the average consumer than wants a touchscreen phone will want a finger operated phone while the business exec that wants a touchscreen phone will want a stylus. Finger operated phones lack handwriting recognition which tend to be desirable for writing on touchscreen phones unless you are a texting teen (not including qwerty phones). Also Windows Mobile just is not well suited to finger operation. I currently own an HTC Touch Pro and there are certain things that are too small to easily "grab" using your finger. The iPhone was built from the ground up for finger operation.

  • That's definitely a valid point, but a 2.8 inch screen size was completely acceptable back in the day, when one could use a stylus without shame; it was common protocol for a smartphone. However, the stylus has become a thing of the past, something Apple has completely rendered "un-sexy" and no one wants to use a clumsy stylus. The trackball is a great solution, however, and the phone's user interface does look intuitive. However, Motorola needs a flaghship phone for consumers to look to. Not everyone will be the monster HTC touch HD, but when you see what HTC was able to accomplish with it, people became immediately impressed. I know I did, and with that impression they made I became interested in the other phones they are manufacturing. Motorola, I think, needs a phone that captures the eye. Trying to type, landscape even, on a phone that has less than a 3.0 inch screen is annoying for me, and I don't have overly large hands or fingers either. Also, the sexiness and consumer appeal of windows mobile isn't what it used to be either, Motorola's interface is gorgeous, and I, despite HATING past iterations of windows mobile (and it's standard and clunky interface today) was impressed when I saw the A3100 in action. However, if messaging becomes a problem or a nuisance due to a small screen, there's no way I can justify spending $400 on a device. I think other consumers will think the same. HOWEVER if the phone can be offered at a great contract price of $150 (in the states, again) after two year contract, Motorola will be kicking some serious butt.

  • Personally I agrees with your comment on the screen size, I do hope many others would too but, I guess they will not, unfortunately. For me, I liked the screen size of the older models that I've used before which were 3.5" such as O2 XDA 1, XDA IIs and Dopod 900 with 3.6" (another version of XDA Exec). Ever since the XDA Mini came out sometime 2003 (I think), the sales shot up for the Mini so much that many other competitors started to produce Windows Mobile PDA phone with 2.8". If you can recalled, after O2 XDA Mini, companies like Dopod (like O2 at that time which was also manufactured by HTC) also launched the Dopod 818 & 838 Pro with 2.8" screen. In my country, both O2 & Dopod with 2.8" screen sold so many units that they created huge awareness and demand on Windows Mobile PDA phone at that time. I would say that was a golden time for WM PDA phones. My friend who was among the pioneer in distributing WM PDA phones at that time made his fortune then - unlike now. The 2.8" screen size was well liked due to its overall smaller size and was well accepted by the younger generations who were willing to spend to get the latest gadgets. For a number of years, almost all WM PDA phones were 2.8", O2 tried to come back with 3.5" when they launched the O2 Flame with 2GB internal memory on a 3.5" but faced with huge failure on the bigger screen. For those who have tried 3.5" screen like me, I didn't mind the size of the phone, viewing movies, reading texts, writing were all better in my opinion. Like I said earlier, many will disagree with me due to personal preference. Lately, there's an indication of bigger screens coming back from phones like IPhone & Samsung Omnia even though they were not exactly 3.5" but they were bigger than the normal 2.8" as a whole. Even HTC has a new 4" screen size now. I believe it boils down to the way manufacturers market them, the user's perception and many user's perception are easily swayed by advertisements. If the 3" screen size are slowly coming back in trend, then this what it's gonna be for the time being until the next trend.... (who knows what). So screen size is just a matter of personal preference, if I were a PDA phone manufacturer now, I'll produce a model that has 2.8" because this is what the majority of the people wanted, I wouldn't want to risk coming out with a 3.5" now (some people might call it Jurassic park era of WM PDA phones) and face with lower sales and profit in the end. In business, the ultimate goal are the sales & profit, so minority's preferences are rarely taken into account.

  • yeah 2.8inch on full touchscreen is to small & still use old colour technology Zz..Zz expensive OS with 65k colour LoL Zz..Zz

  • Oh and here's the phone for $389 USD, you have to create a free account with this site to check the price:

  • I love motorola's call quality on their phones and how many of them are solidly built (with the exception of the first RAZR) but a 2.8 inch display on a touch phone is laughable now. It's really pathetic, especially when you consider the thickness of the device. It should be at least 3 inches, that .2 makes a HUGE difference on a cell phone.

  • Hello, will it come with TV OUT? And, does anyone have any idea on the full price? Because I don't live in the USA

  • zn5 is best 5mp camera phone and motorola were waiting for first moto 8mp camera you will make best 8mp phone whit best features and conquer the market and a3100 ?? number one in world

  • legendary model

  • I cant wait for this phone to hit the USA market, and yes lets hope it is with Verizon.

  • PLease let this phone be with Verizon!!!

  • yes it has crystal talk

  • Does it have a Crystal Talk system? How much is it?

  • Ask this question to windows.. Windows o/s supports only 65k color, i think there aim is to provide better battery rather than good quality or properly constructed o/s lol.. :-)

  • capability/price ,it is good.

  • Hello Moto!! you are still sleeping!! a touchscreen phone with 65K colors.. what are you thinking????!

  • im very happy to see this phone whit motorola sign and waiting again for excellent job from moto at toward like: flash , inferno , calagray , rush2 , alexcander , z12 ,e10 , ve66 luxury ,niagara , ...

  • win mobile 3.2mp cam , wifi ,3g , gps , touch screen ,528 Mhz processor ... excellent excellent excellent

  • saw one in HK two days ago.

  • cant wait until it released !!!! im very excited about this motosurf thing hope it'll be released on indonesia in 1-2 months

  • If in place of the 3.1 cam would have a 5.0 with Geo tagging, plus an RDS radio and maybe a dual SIM option... could be just it for the Smart-phone , but then i look at the new Toshiba that came on market with a 1 GHz processor who has only 1 handicap, WinCE ... well, guess will have to wait for someone to get all in one and stop playing around the fingers with the specs an set a higher bar on market for smart phones, and get the ball rolling

  • This phone also has: Smile and Face Detection. It would be logical for gsmarena to write those things in the specs even though they are "not" important.

  • At last a touch screen phone and Wi-Fi enabled from motorola. hope they could improve the camera

  • great phone from best company

  • best best best in design and performance exelent job motorola dont tired moto

  • Can't you just scroll down the page? The question was answered, actually many times, already.

  • Does it have a Crystal Talk system? How much is it?

  • None of my Moto phone would "default" and sync with my PC and automatically overrides all the bookmarks. And so my wife is not really brilliant in terms of hi-tech products, and I'm even worse that I can't figure out how iphone works, should we be blamed or should designers of the phone make more user friendly system? Why was I able to pickup using MacIntosh without any manual while I can't figure out anything on my Windows Mobile A3100? (even with the useless manual)

  • I am a moto fan but 9.0 is a little high for a rating.

  • Beautiful phone. Displays a little small, but the trackball helps with that, especially if it's clickable. It's too bad that it runs windows-mobile. However, if this phone is cheap, it will RAPE the market, could be the boost that motorola needs.

  • A3000(no 3G version) A3100 (3G version)

  • Maybe first review for Motorola SURF A3100 :

  • iphone kiler is here ! a3100 best win mobil at world

  • i believe thats something we call "user error" as not one part of the iphone setup or syncing process involves anything to do with bookmarks

  • Does it have a Crystal Talk system? How much is it?

  • Different people have difference preferences, and all of them should be respected. Iphone users who don't mind not being able to accept file transfer via Bluetooth, not able to change a new battery, not able to pick a file to become a ringtone without itunes, may still be happy with their iphones. Though that doesn't mean all other phone users need to "live with" such "special features" as mentioned above, and don't they deserve other alternatives to their preference? Yes, I bought the iphone for my wife, who tried to simply connect the phone with PC and ended up erasing all the bookmarks on my computer. Can't understand why Apple made the process so complicated....unlike the good old days of MacIntosh which I loved to use over PC's...even with Windows.

  • Please knock off the iphone wanna be comments, so immature. Please people grow up.

  • Please knock off the iphone wanna be comments, so immature. Please people grow up.

  • Good question. I have checked Moto's websites in HK, Taiwan and China where the phone is "already available" (known as A3000 in China as a 2G version), none of them mentioned the phone features Crystal Talk. I've heard other "rumors" on the net regarding the phone does "have" Crystal Talk, which I can't confirm elsewhere. Nevertheless, comments from other existing users (through phone forum in HK) reveal the phone provides good voice quality, especially over other brands. My friend who I always call to test phones commented overall voice quality is clear, of course still can't match the best in the market...flip phones with Crystal Talk like K3/V8/V9

  • Except it still lacks a radio! Even as a die-hard Moto fan, I don't / can't understand why Moto can't make another 3G phone with radio after the good old A835 (with the special handsfree)...

  • I hope this would be the last time I answer the same question over and over again... A3100 is now available in Hong Kong and Taiwan for around US$400 unlock and no contract. Mainland China sells a 2G version called A3000 for about US$510...due to higher spending power for the mainland Chinese nowadays.

  • I wanna have this phone..but it hasn't saled in Mongolia. If i order this on online, would they send it to me?

  • Does it have a Crystal Talk system?

  • good job motorola..finally..a phone from motorola that has most of which people need...3g..wifi..and a good camera...finally in one device.

  • iphone kiler is here nobody cant challenge whit a3100

  • i think this will be an amazin and cheap winmo phone.....it will crash the touchscreen market and the windows mobile market....waitin for dis phone 2 realease

  • iPhone wanna-be?

  • Has anyone SMSed with this phone? How easy is it? Please let me know. Only possible to use virtual keypad to send SMSs? Thanks in advance.

  • I do not know witch one should i chose i guess the pink nek is much better???????????

  • I like the round adges it will fit in the A*S*S

  • motorola is moving out of SG too.. haiis... YYY!!!

  • vow vow vow great job moto best in world a3100

  • A 100...where were you able to get this phone (A3100)? I'm looking to buy one as well.

  • poor features boring design and the space above the keys could of fitted half inch of screen motorola have had their day the razr was the last good phone they made since then its been going down hill fast....

  • Got back to work last Thusday, and found out couldn't login to GSM Arena anymore. Hence... One thing I don't understand, why so many people kept saying the phone is not yet available, when I already "bought" mine for over 2 weeks? Some others also doubt the fact I own both A3100 & EM35, just because I'm able to answer "some" questions of various models, does that mean I can't (afford to?) own them?

  • Hi 100 Moto, Hope you've been enjoying your CNY holidays. This CNY for me has been more hectic and meaningful than the last couple of years. I noticed that your encoded location (TCwR) has been different compared to your previous location (ER2m). Did you post your comments from different location or different computer? Just curious to find out. Hope no one is using your name to post here.

  • greatest phone whit best design ,features, performance

  • How on earth can you compare an X1 that is over $600 USD to a phone that should be around $400? It is like comparing a SE W595 to a C905. X1... greatest phone SE never made

  • any info confirm that A3100 have any crystal talk?

  • how much does it cost you???iam also wanting to have that kind of phone but im not xur if dats already available neither here in the phil or somewhere in U.A.E

  • How come I have flash on my A3100 unit?

  • So did you checkout Moto's website in Taiwan and HK before making such statement? Also the phone is known as A3000 in mainland China...minus the 3G connectivity.

  • How did you know the phone is not yet available? A3100 HAS BEEN AVAILABLE in Taiwan for 3 weeks, 2 weeks in HK. I got mine 2 weeks ago. I won't mind to bet you US$400 (how much I paid for mine) by showing you my receipt. Wanna bet on this? (I sure wouldn't mind to have another US$400 in my pocket for my next Moto phone) Suggest you go around the world before you make your statement.

  • Really? Moto has no experience with Windows Mobile? How about its Q9h for GSM? And didn't ir release Q9 CDMA about 3~6 months before the CDMA version? I don't know how you arrived your judgement, though in the most popular forum in HK, many actual users of A3100 already bought the phone and are quite satisfied with it, including myself. I only need to take several Windows Mobile classes from the shop I bought it from to get myself familiar with Windows Mobile.

  • A3100 HAS BEEN AVAILABLE in Taiwan for 3 weeks, 2 weeks in HK. I got mine 2 weeks ago. I won't mind to bet you US$400 (how much I paid for mine) by showing you my receipt.

  • Guys good news, Motorola Taiwan website confirms that A3100 HAS the CrystalTalk Technology. MOTO Rocks! :)

  • i hv been using A1200 for last 2 years and have not found another mobile that's more userfriendly than it. Only request to Motorola - please have good volume for your speakers

  • i love Motorola .. i'm using the ROKR E6 and looking forward to getting this Moto A3100

  • this fone is reconmended by me it is better than nokia 5800 in the following ways; 1 faster 2 better operating system 3 better design 4 charging through USB THE ONLY DISAVANGE OF THIS FONE(A3100) IS THE LACK OF FLASH IN IT CAMERA.

  • In my country, SE, Nokia & Motorola are pulling out too, I heard sometime end February. It's not to say they are not available anymore, just that their individual country branch will stop operation to cut costs due to the global economic crisis - for now. However, these manufacturers (SE, Nokia, Moto) have their usual local distributors & service centres (appointed ones, not their own outlets) so from now on which phone models to be made available in your country will be solely the decision of the local distributors. Don't be surprise to see some phones you like not available in your country in the future. I got to know this when I was asking my local Moto distributor recently as to when ZN5 is coming and that's when I got the info about SE, Nokia & Moto moving out. Product Warranty is not an issue, only phone model selection might present a bit of problem because I'm quite sure the local distributors will try to choose the models they think can sell easily, for sales & profit purposes and not because the phones are well featured. Another thing I really hope will not happen is the service render by the local representatives, let's hope they handle their own brand well in terms of better marketing and PR. If they fail to do a good job, people will condemn the brand instead of them. When the economy crisis ends and good times comes back, we'll definitely see these companies opening up branches again in various countries.

  • oh boy never compare samsung whit motorola motorola is best in world and moto fan are hi class and singular a3100 is best windows mobile

  • oh boy veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery good

  • Really? Hell no; Motorola should never pull out of our country. There are still people interested in buying their phones like us. They should not be bothered by others having better sales.

  • Motorola has always the best sounding built-in speakers. I've tried comparing it with other brands. Even the owners of those other phones are asking what's my unit (A780+) Now, they came up with a 16Gb, that rules! Only thing I noticed is that there's no "flash" for camera. Also, i've heard Motorola is pulling out of our country (Philippines)...why???

  • SURF A3100 is not available officially yet.

  • Where can you buy this phone? Can you allready buy him in Belgium?

  • LOL! RAZR2 design is awesome, but the features need some tweaks .

  • I hope Motorola will make a newer RAZR. The RAZR2 series suck. (the design sucks)

  • its amazing

  • guys this is motorola and best from all brand a3100 is best windows mobil super phone

  • Why waiting for this unit, while you can buy the extreme and near-high end PDA phone (i.e. the Omnia)? It is such a wasted time following the tradition being a Moto or iPhone fanatics that the units you expect to perform the best are already been in the store. At least this unit will greatly perform, the word-of-the-mouth sometimes is useful in questioning the expert-point-of-view. Be wise and reasonable.

  • i never any phone except motorola moto is singular

  • X1 is nothing... very slow, always hang up... i will wait for this A3100 when they release it an i will buy one... i have aura already and i like it... i love moto.. sorry guys...

  • a3100 is motorola flagship 2009 and will moto release this super phone very soon . were waiting for see it in shop and buy it .

  • actually x1 is better than a3100 compare them !!! blind moto lovers...

  • Motorola to Offer LTE Solution by 2009 The roadmap to LTE is beginning to take shape. Motorola announced today in a press release that it plans on its first commercial release of LTE solutions next year, and the release will include products for both the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum. While LTE is not expected to be available from AT&T or Verizon until 2010/2011, Motorola plans to help get the infrastructure set up to make the transition to 4G as smooth as possible. According to the press release, We believe deploying LTE in the 700 MHz band is mandatory to meet the needs of wireless carriers in the U.S. market as well as a number of other countries globally, said Darren McQueen, Motorola vice president, Wireless Broadband Access Technologies. In addition, there is a clear demand for LTE in 2.6GHz spectrum band to meet the needs of GSM carriers that have already secured the spectrum in the global market. Motorolas solution is a base station that will share both WiMax and LTE, as well as other radios for specific customers.

  • great phone

  • a3100 is best windows mobil in world its inestimable

  • im one of Motorola user... i luv used it! even though my friends said Motorola is not the best phone but for me Motorola is the best phone in d world... i noe, the latest product of Motorola can compile wit other company! go Motorola go!

  • HI all, Im a fan of motorola hands down they do things better in evrything! i've had my motoming a1200 and its the best phone i've ever had! its small and elegant, it plays anything and evrything in it widescreen, unlike other mobiles, like samsung (im using the armani now) or nokia sometimes they wont play if its not compatible, they wont even read the photos that i get from the net. moto reads evrything, lectures, power points, p*orn lol, as in evrything! Im gonna get this one, i hope they have it in white or pink? ^_^ This phone is gonna be AWesomeeeeeee! i cant wait to have it!

  • HI i am one of moto's fan . i was looking for a moto cell phone having windows mobile & finger-touch both!& i think it's time to have this dream...

  • a3100 / e71 65k color / 16m color 119g / 127g touchscreen 2.8inch / 2.36 inch Handwriting recognition / 256MB flash memory / 110 MB internal memory 128MB DDR SDRAM / 128 MB SDRAM Memory Qualcomm MSM7201A 528Mhz / ARM11 369MHz processor 3.15 MP, secondary cam / 3.15 MP, secondary cam Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional / Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI Built-in GPS with A-GPS / Built-in GPS with A-GPS GPRS class 12 / class 32 3G hsdpa 7.2 mbps / 3G hsdpa 3.6 mbps wifi802.11 b/g / wifi802.11 b/g a3100 is very powerful than e71 even is beter performance than e90 , x1 , omnia ,...

  • I dont know if its first time, a moto has a windows mobile os, but being serious, i dont think this is gonna hit the market that well... a better chose, is a company experienced with windos mobile like htc, etc, if thats what your looking for, cause all moto users just take pics, make calls and send sms... so theres no reason (in my point of view) of buying this phone, i dont think moto users are gonna be "satisfied" as they are used to simple os as symbian... im just being honest.

  • very very very good

  • It's MOTO time. I was a moto user, now i stick on N95. From my experience, i believe MOTO is the best in material, construction and voice clarity. I'm waiting another nice product from MOTO and the time is come. I think i will replace my N95 with this one.

  • Where is the FM in it.... oops

  • hey hey hey 3mp is outdate ?! x1 has 3mp / iphone has 2mp and how many win mobil have 3mp or upper cam . win mo 6.1 is last version practical for phone like x1 too and win mo 6.5 is yet trial version display is 2.8" and big enough and if you want biger display will buy a laptop a3100 have 119 g weight and very easy to transport and in your pocket (x1 145 g , n97 150 g , very heavy in your hand ) memory up to 16gb and qualcomm msm7201a 528 mhz is very powerful

  • hey can you read specification about this phone or your unread !! many other brand like n97 that dont release have good vote and a3100 whit this good design and features and performance too think then write

  • To the 1293 people (at time of posting) who have voted for this phone. How can you rate it as it is not yet released??? Mindless..

  • Just a phone? :) Then you do not need: 1: camera 2: screen larger than 2˝ 3: win Mo OS 6: WiFi etc. Just making a call? you can do that with a V3. Be realistic! You pay for features and it is reasonable that you get current ones not outdated technology - 3MP camera is outdated! Win Mo 6.1 is a joke!

  • The price will be lower for what A3100 offer, and this will be a strong reason to buy this phone. Overall , this is just a phone not a Home Cinema Sistem so the movie specification is nothing for me.

  • its iphone kiler and nobody cant rival whit a3100 a3100 use last performance in this super phone bravo moto we are waiting for this nice

  • beter design and performance than x1 and innov8 good good good

  • If you want watch more image this cellphone . Please enter :

  • This phone is not released yet - we don not know the reliability. as far as specs? very disappointing: 1: too thick 2: small screen for the size of the phone (unused areas) 3: less than 1 GB memory! (16-32GB available already) 4: 3MP camera? outdated! 5: movie specs???? 6: low specs on battery 7: Win Mobile 6.1 - buggy!!!! 6.5 is already out! that is also su..xs I think there is no reason to be so excited :))) Motorola made a fortune with V3 years ago - but done nothing since. They were ahead of others about 2 years. Now they lost 40-50% of business!!!! Shame!

  • This phone will be the bomb ! over 9 users rating !!! Many people waiting to buy A3100. Hurry up Moto and realese this baby. Very sad there is no CrystalTalk tehnology on it :( .

  • WTF@!!!! with windows mobilee??!!!!!!! i wanted this but.....i dont like windows!!

  • can't wait to touch this phone ...

  • Fakuryu it is indeed a rumor! :{

  • Thanks to Motorola for releasing such cool and different phones ! very good

  • i cant waiting more for a3100 realy love this phone thancks MOTO ()

  • Awesom mobile man this com[ppnay is really rocking throughtout the world by launcing new and enhanced cell phones as compare to Nokia n other compnaies n i really like the option of call restriction

  • hellooooooo /\/\.O.T.O ;;) how does moto know this is my favorite?! touch screen,Wi-Fi,microsoft windows, nice designing... LOVELY cellphone:x im waiting for you A3100!

  • Wow......Motorola gr8 job Done it again,

  • As far as my ROKR Z6 and E8 goes, sadly the lack of CrystalTalk is a deal breaker for me. Still waiting for the 3g VE66! Hopefully it is not a rumour!

  • thancks moto excellent

  • Memory card is up to 32 GB not 16gb , out in asia next month and europe with in 6 months

  • Believe no Crystal Talk is available, as none of Moto's site mentions about the availability. Through my own experience with A3100 and my friend, who is always the first I call to test the (voice quality) of a phone, his comment was "ok". So if Moto's (flip) phones with Crystal Talk gets A+ for voice quality, A3100 probably gets a B+ or a B, which is still "ok". No Moto phone can be worse than my friend's SE bar phone and the almighty brand's 6300 (not sure about other of the same brand), where I can hardly hear what the other party is saying.

  • Yes!, The Sony X1 is way better than this phone!

  • its daimon

  • vow vow vow excellent job moto do you want kill iphone .x1 ... . yaaaa

  • best phone in design features performance i love u moto

  • Does This device has CrystalTalk technologhy?? anyone knows?? There is no info about that feature !!!

  • Yes! Thats why they postponed its oficcial day that was supposed to come out? X1 was found to have problems with its OS and they returned back the first time. After a while they fixed that problem though. Is SE really trustful?

  • You are wrong. X1 is better than A3100.

  • Motorola has decided to release it in Europe somewhere in Q3 or Q4 2009, so don't expect it soon. It's mostly targeted to China and Australia so we must hope Motorola release some other nice smartphones for the European marked, hopefully the Motorola Flash but i doubt it...

  • a3100 is realy beter than x1 & iphone3g & n97 ...

  • gooooood guy moto,i like it.

  • goooooood guy moto.i like it.

  • So if I give you a phone which you're not familiar with, let's say something like Moto E2 or EM35 or Z8, and "without reading the specs", you can tell me if the mon has 65K or 262K or 16 mil color? To me, I can't tell the difference between my Z8 and Q9 and EM35...

  • have good time with a3100

  • best in world

  • I just thought of sharing with you guys on my experience with Windows Mobile PDA phone. Way back in year 2001, my first PDA was Palm V, switched to Compaq 3850 about 6 months later as Windows Mobile 2002 came into the market. I was very much impressed with Windows at that time, the display graphics, the calendar / reminder function, Notes, To do list, handwriting recognitions was much better than Palm's (eventhough I was already used to Palm's style). Switched to O2 XDA 1 in 2002, the first Windows based PDA that comes with built in phone. It was cool, turning heads whenever I was using it with the stylus. At that time, it was rumored to be better than the Nokia 9210i Communicator. Fast forward a bit, since then I have used HP 6365, O2 Xda IIs, Nokia 9210i Communicator, Dopod 818 pro, Dopod 900 and now Asus P735, considered not many by some peoples standard. Everytime I switched, I realized I fell into retailers pitch, new Windows Mobile version (WM 2002 to WM 2003 SE, WM 5, WM 6.0), additional RAM, better camera and so on. Today, with my Asus P735, which was launched in 2007, the 500 Mhz Turbo processor, 256 ROM, Mini SD card storage, Wifi, 3G (again, NEVER used), GPS, Bluetooth and WM 6.0 the specs arent too far from todays high end WM PDA Phones in the market, in fact, its better than some of todays PDA phones which are running on 200 Mhz or 400 Mhz processors. Im sure many readers here have experienced Windows Mobile before so for those who are just coming to it now, I would say you are either going to love it or hate it. Theres no right or wrong here, just personal preferences. For me, if given a choice to choose only one phone between a WM PDA phone or a normal non-PDA phone, Ill go for a WM PDA phone anytime. The features are complete as stated above, only thing is youll need an additional charger, USB PC cable charger, car charger or travel charger. Eventhough most of this thing has over 1000Mah battery in it, itll drain fast if youve many features running at once. For example, Ill have my Bluetooth on while connected to a wifi spot surfing and at times Ill update my worldwide news channels like International Herald Tribune, CNET news, PC World, AFP World news for reading pleasure. Incredible feature without having to pay a single cent!!. I can sync Words doc. And Excel xls files, clients quotations, correspondences into this pocket PC for reference or editing anytime, even include them as attachment in emails using this device too. I also loved the calendar / reminder as it has various snoozing options and very organized viewing options. Screens bigger so viewing videos is clearer and software availability so many therere unaccountable. On the other hand, many dislike PDA phones for their size especially the earlier models where the bigger ones have 3.6 inches screen but believe me, the text size, graphics and icons were all well displayed. I always tell my friends that having this device is like having a secretary with you 24/7 without having the headache of annual raise, bonuses and listening to their complaints. Lastly, I still love my ROKR E8 and previous V8 with Linux but for me these phones are dedicated specifically for calling and answering calls because of their impressive Crystaltalk feature, other than that my current WM PDA phone is doing all the other tasks that have contributed or enhanced my work productivity all this while. So for Motorolas A3100, Id say good work from Moto, might need to reduce its selling price in order to compete with other established brands for now.

  • OK. Friends , it's been 5 days since i last visited this site and i still didn't catch it. Why are you making such a deal about the colors of this phone. I didn't even undertand who supports it and who doesn't. I hardly recomment you to see any of the videos about this phone in youtube. They may not be so so satisfying but you can see that this phone rocks!!! I don't care about the colors or the resolution because the fact that it has new moded windows mobile skin makes it special for me. One inovation per time!!!!

  • Oops, 65 K.

  • Have you forgotten about the possibility that the phone's "poor" 65 K display can be compensated by a large screen resolution? A 16 M display on a 240x320 resolution can be defeated with a 565 K display on 640x480 pixel resolution.

  • There are only 3 phones that claim to have 265k colors and run Windows Mobile PocketPC (touchscreen). The Mitac MIO A502 and the Samsung i740 were apparently never released. The LG Incite was the only one released but it claims to have 256K colors (65K effective), whatever that means.

  • actually the color difference is quite noticeable for me. I've had the K850i (256k) then it broke and i bought Nokia 5610 (16M) and the very first thing i notice about the phone is the screen is GORGEOUS!! the color depth is much much better. I didnt compare the 2 phones side by side since my K850i broke so bad i couldnt. But i can totally tell the color difference.

  • I heard the 65K is restricted by Windowns Mobile OS.

  • Call me naive, can you tell me how many Windows Mobile based phones have more than 65K color screen?

  • Will try to save a word doc and let you know later...

  • Can i upgrade from Windows Mobile 6.1 to Windows Mobile 6.5 on A3100 or any Windows Mobile device??

  • awsome..i think world needs Moto to rock. The Koreans are just copycats and Rim and apple are only into smart phones, Htc seems to be a one hit wonder with Touch the only successful model. Nokia needs SE and Moto to fire to keep them on their toes. If these two companies go under we will be left with very limited options either Nokia or chinese knock offs

  • Can you even tell the difference between a 65 K, 256 K, and 16 M color display from a first look? No, the color depth difference is not that noticeable by the naked eye. Remember that bigger is not better.

  • 65K colors ?!! do thy still make this type pf screen's!! :(

  • Relax, this phone not for Europe... Only for Asia market.

  • MOTO ROCKS finally new Moto whith whirless internet

  • Thanks mate :) As you might (or not) remember I use my smartphone for work (translating) when I'm on the road. So I would like to know something more about the Word editor. A3100 should come with one, right ? Also, if you have ever used Word editor from doc2go on A1000, it would be nice to compare those two.

  • This phone looks promising. The thing is, I still can't get over how great my E8 is. I think I'll stay loyal to my E8 and just have this phone "next in line" some other time (maybe about 5 years from now).

  • The only forum I'm active in right now is indeed GSM Arena. Also to Cain, what do you want to know about this A3100? The only thing is I'm too naive to navigate with Windows Mobile, and I'll probably need to wait for some "classes" available from the shop I purchased from (next month) to learn more how to better utilize the phone. Though for other features, I can find out and tell you more...with my own unit. Maybe I can learn a few tricks from you guys by "discovering" my phone as well.

  • finally, Motorola u r alive, on track & hope u on schedule.

  • Hi try to visit www(dot)modmymoto(dot)com for other usefull motorola softwares, upgrades and flashes. Im active in forum. Motorola Rock my World

  • And finaly a solution to replace my trusty, but aging A1000 :) Please 100 Moto, share some more A3100 experience with us...

  • This would be officially my next phone!!!!!!!!! This thing may not win against other touchscreen phones, but it wins my heart. The design, the features, the price, all perfectly planned by the Motorola R&D department.

  • wow 100 moto!!! keep it !! can you tell me on which moto forums you are active?? we need a review of ur phones like a1300 and em35 etc. im active on mmus(dot)us

  • the answers for all I wanted from motorola (^_^)

  • Sorry, I don't have any "first hand" info on those unreleased phones. I did bought an A3100 yesterday. Voice quality is "ok" at somewhere between B+/A- (vs. A+ for V9/K3). Reception isn't as good as others like Moto MaxxV3/V9 (again, V8/V9 are "kings" in terms of reception and voice quality) Still testing other features as I'm blind in terms of Windows Mobile.

  • I've been using many PDA phones since the first O2 XDA 1 in 2002, many applications or softwares installed can stored in your memory card instead of in board memory. As long as you don't removed the card, the programs will function without problem. I even have SPB pocket plus installed inside my memory card and it runs without problem.

  • On board mem sucks not on level as bold new curve or the iphone sd mem only good for video photos or music. Nah the device mem determines what all apps u install

  • it`s cool to have such set. i love to buy it. it has what i needed.

  • the world`s first cell phone was made from motorola in 1983 not from nokia.

  • hi class

  • a3100 is best phone at world MOTOROLA is MAGNATE

  • Superb smart phone from a superb engineering from a superb phone manufacturer.weldone moto..get back your 'motos greatness'

  • I have read the reviews. Looks like this is a very good phone from motorola. And when it become a real, hopefully they didnt screw this. I just a little bit dissapointed with the color screen and pixel screen which is only 65000 & 240x320. But beside that, this is very promising.

  • bravo motorola this is best phone in world complete and perfect 9.1 rate whit 758 vote ???!!! this is unprecedented and unrivaled

  • 100moto do you know any information about new product motorola exampel : attila .alexcander . calagry . rush . flash . .... ? say to moto fan please

  • vow vow vow

  • I love this set open this link to see rates of this mobile

  • I see you all liked this phone. You ought to. It's awsome. Get ready for more smartphones after february 2. I'll explain you why. I copied from Motorola.com the following statment: Additionally, we are making good progress in developing important new smartphones for 2009 and are pleased with the positive response from our customers to these new devices added Jha.

  • a3100 have best design in world

  • it seems like u haven't watched any video of this ;)

  • us430 price ??!! its realy well

  • Rumor about A3100 will be available in HK for around US$430 (no contract & unlock) in a few weeks. Also found a "2G" version called A3000 through Moto's mainland China's website, which doesn't mention the availability of Crystal Talk

  • finally!!! motorola has just now come out with a decent smart phone!!!! It's about time motorola.

  • excellent job from motorola

  • Wow look at the rating, i haven't seen any mobiles rated so high as equal to this.. moto rocks

  • You are kidding, right? You dont actually believe what you wrote, do you? This phone is light years behind any similar device...lol

  • this is a premium phone. it's obviously better than iphone (don't like), xperia and omnia (both have a not very friendly interface).

  • It doesn't have accelerometer not FM radio, which is a bit dissapointing bu we've seen that All-In-One devices can be quite buggy. The interface has some neat functions like drag and drop and nice weather application. They have made the interface quite thumb-friendly i think. With the right pricing it could be a deal.

  • Hope this phone comes with accelerometer and crystal talk....Love moto...glad to see them coming back....E680 was the best phone I had so far....

  • nice looking fone with decent specs...hope gsmarena guys gives a review on this....

  • It cannot be an iphone killer, it has winmo! :(

  • this is cretain and vivid that a3100 is very beter from iphone ! this is realy iphone killer

  • a3100 is excellent job from motorola like zn5 ,ve66 ,e8 ,zn4 , w233 , em35 , aura , z10...

  • iphone or other ohone realy cant challenge whit a3100 this phone is realy beter from those in design features and performance and premier that: THIS IS MOTOROLA

  • This A3100 could be a momentum for Motorola to raise up. And it could be an iPhone killer.

  • Different markets have different strategies, while mainland China received EM35 in December, HK didn't get it until last week.

  • im sure that all other brand copy from a3100 and other motorola phone soon because motorola is mastermind like: z10 - aura - e8 - a1800 - zn4 - w233renew - ve66 - a3100 ..

  • a3100 is versatility

  • Will this moto come 2 indonesia i call operator of moto it said not sell at indonesia so sad

  • EM 35 just new hear ? R u sure there was ?

  • gsm review this super phone

  • this is mutation for phone idustry in world

  • best of best is this

  • bravo bravo bravo a3100 is like mini laptop design is r r realy beautiful and beter from aplle3g, xperya, omina, ... this is best design year

  • I often work in a communist country though I use the radio to listen to "democratic freedom news" across the border. Don't think the traffic cams through my 3G network service provider can provide as "wide" coverage as traffic news through radio. Still not sure about radio on A3100, though I just got my EM35, with radio works without headphone antenna. Reception gets even better with headphone antenna, of course.

  • MOTOROLA in MACEDONIA is #1 !!!!!!!!!! A3100 is #1 from motorola

  • Oh My GOD! lol cant believe the spec of the GIANT phone!!! i am a True Nokia fan but now i am motorola fan! great!

  • hi gsmarena we are moto fan we love you and motorola together dont hate moto please your cosmopolitan and best site in world and motorola is best mobile phone in world

  • motorola is best we are waiting for first 8mp camera phone of moto that like zn5 is best 5mp

  • stronger

  • i heard the retail price for this phone unlocked is $800 USD. Ouch. sure you can find it cheaper, but still.

  • NO Mater how many phone they come out with, good or bad, people would hardly go for Motorola, they would be first time moto user or the fanboys. i have a z6 and its a beautiful device, but i guess motorola realy messed up with OS, p2k and Linux is messed up, uninteresting looks, seriously. only WinMO is good! Modding is fun, but not all people mod their phone, and not all motos are modded :( what do you guys say???

  • motorola i realy say you thank u will make best phone like a3100 exampell im vaiting for your 8mp moto camera phone maybe zn8 !!!

  • its my love

  • zn5 is best 5mp camera phone even beter from samsung innov 8mp .,!! and soud quality speaker and 3.5mm jack very good like ipod !!!i love zn5 and e8 keypad modshift is realy artifice lcd is best clarity and sharpness like all moto phone . wifi work very well and fast and ... and a3100 is weird

  • Umm, you're right, didn't really look at the radio feature from your angle. I'm using E8 now with radio feature and I've only used the radio occasionally. I would say with my previous V8 ( without radio), I was not interested in the radio at all. So now with E8, I can still do without it even though I'd said it is useful "sometimes".

  • vow is it camputer from moto or phone realy well i never see design like a3100

  • i never see in my age a phone similar a3100 complete / main / mighty its masterwork i will say to moto company : not tired moto not tired

  • Luxurious High end Phones, won't need any Low End feature Like FM Radio.I haven't seen Executives using High End Phones for FM Radio...Honestly

  • ...badly!

  • I want one

  • oh my god!!!!!!!!!! oh m god!!!!!! oh my god!! its awful...

  • I'm using E2,E8 and E680.All have FM Radio but I even haven't used it until now. GSMArena is such a Motohater. There's no review for the best music phone in the world (E8) and the best 5 megapixel camera phone in the world (ZN5).What a shame!

  • i have moto rocker e8 for 1.5 year its realy good and hi class whit realy best sound quality and stereo fm radio but i never use radio

  • radio ? how much of mobile user , use radio in the year!!!???

  • a3100 isn't good phone without fm and flash for camera

  • a3100= atilla i like it :)

  • glorious & terrific hurrah motorola

  • why gsm dont review the motorola phone we are moto fan from all around the world motorola is first and best in world a3100 is UNPRECEDENTED

  • If you search in you tube you'll find in one of the 4(not sure) videos the girl who is browsing the phone goes to a program where you can edit pictures and i found it really nice.

  • MOTOROLA is the best company. i love a3100,because this is the best packet pc and mobile. but is not perfect.because dont have radio, qwerty keyboard, office edit, camera flash,tv out,dvb-h. if a3100 have these things is PERFECT.

  • goodbye moto

  • can ne1 jus mention d cost...?

  • Coming soon. Exp. release on next San Francisco Gay parade.

  • its realy best a3100 is mini camputer i wish buy it soon in my country iran moto is number one in world

  • a3100 is best phone today around whit uper PROMINENCE than other phone product but its not in gsmarena ranking ???????????????? and ve66 - zn5 too i dont like you gsm

  • Ooh, touchscreen. Is that scrool thingy like the one on BlackBerrys???

  • Wow this phone surely has risen some emotions! Nice. I hope it's as good as it looks on the pictures and videos.

  • I would expect someone here to again blatantly exploit this phone's weaknesses and then is pitted against an obviously uneven fight with a high-end phone.

  • i think it's better to maximize in one focused oriented, than you put all features on your handset, but all the feature won't work perfectly, like Nokia did, they put all feature in every their high end phone, but lets check how they works, are they works as good as specialized phone (office phones, camera phones, or music phones for example). So I think, it would be no problem if there is no radio on A3100.

  • how can people post comments here about something that is due for release yet? i wonder why? please enlighten me... thanks

  • Thanks for the info. I would really appreciate your input on Crystaltalk Version 2. Didn't know the EM35 has the 2nd version. If the version two has better background noise reduction feature, I'll be very interested to look into as my next upgrade. Yes I do celebrate CNY, will have more time then to teach the other little "kid" here on growing up and put English to good use. (LOL)

  • I had some good experience with OEM Moto phones like E365, V878. (only wish I didn't lose my V878! Still a decent phone in today's standard) Even the A732 I had was "ok". Unfortunately recent comments on low end phones like VE538, or perhaps even Zn200 (not sure if this being OEM), isn't exactly positive. To cope with the possible lost of my US$10 betting on the availability of Crystal Talk on A3100, I'll bet another US$20 on GSM Arena "not" to review A3100...that actually means I wouldn't mind to pay US$20 if GSM Arena would ever review any Moto phone again! Thanks for your greeting, and same to you...if you do celebrate CNY. I shall be able to share some experience with my EM35 next week (Crystal Talk 2)...as I plan to put a 16GB card in the phone. A good friend of mine, who I influcence to become a Moto user. I often call him to "test" the phone before I make the purchase, and he often gives me feedback in terms of voice quality of different Moto form factors with Crystal Talk. Of course, based on the design, any flip phone with Crystal Talk offers the best. Will have him to help test the quality of EM35.

  • A3100 is extraordinary Phones Capabilities! i thought it's better than it's competitor....

  • I'm sharing the same concern like yours in Motorola products availability in my country too. I've found out just recently that after February this year, Sony Ericcson, Nokia and Motorola will be moving out of my country, I mean their local country branch offices, leaving only importing distributors and service centres here which were appointed and does not belong to them. So there'll still be support after sales, just that without their branch office, the models coming in will be reduced depending on the models selected now from their distributors' decision, not from the respective manufacturer this time. The way I see it, this is a cost cutting step taken by these manufacturers (SE, Nokia, Moto) to reduce global expenditures when facing the on coming hard times. As for your country, I'm not completely sure on the scenario, maybe it's different so you might need to check out further. During this economic crisis, I believe the market for "cheaper" phones are more attractive to buyers in general so more people will be looking for value buy, lower price for higher specs phone. So my concern is, some bogus "companies" might come out with imitations to attract people and make some quick bucks. I've actually seen some imitated models in my country selling for very attractive prices. Just a thought from me, be careful guys.

  • To me, the most important feature in Motorola phones today is Crystaltalk so if Moto decides to leave it out for A3100, there must for a reason. Well, without Crystaltalk, the competition level is the same with others, with Crystaltalk, Moto is actually one level up from others. If it's true that A3100 is an OEM product then it's not surprising that it'll come without Crystaltalk and if it's OEM from Taiwan, there's a possibility this model is "made" by one of the giant PDA phone manufacturer there, just like O2 Zinc model, which was made by ASUS in Taiwan and the earlier O2 models were from HTC those day. I'm not surprised if Moto chose this direction for cost cutting measure as many well branded US products are manufactured either in Taiwan or China nowadays, in fact many of the US products that my company are importing from, we shipped them out from China or Taiwan. Contrary to many believe, Quality can be good or even extremely good depending on the product grade vs. price that we are willing to pay or can be also poor quality if price agreed is low. Let's hope A3100 is the higher grade. Based on current global situation, many companies are merging and OEM products should be more common for cost reduction, avoiding high inventory and tooling costs. Once you've got your A3100, hope you could share with all of us on the performance. Thanks and Happy New Year (CNY) to you and your family.

  • looks like the tarded off spring of a n97 and a blackberry bold

  • Hey people! why does motorola germany not bring phones like the em30,and now i read the em35 probably also not,to germany, when they bring phones like the aura?!?i mean who will buy these super expensive phones in times of a economical crisis and to a country where "greed is cool"is an important saying?they should instead bring phones for the masses!be more competitive in segments where they could sell more phones, like the music centric segment! everybody says how bad motorola is doing, but they are doing one big mistake after the other!i thnk that motorola germany is incompetent in their job by bringing the wrong phones to their country!and why are there no motorola phones in the big electronic stores(saturn, media markt) where everybody is buying electronical devices?!? if somebody from motorola could read this, and do something against it...

  • I mostly like black / silver color phones over others, even though I actually like blue color myself, somehow if I can choose between black and blue on a phone (like Moto V3x/Z3), I still take the black one. Anyway, went to my favorite chain last nite and put a deposit on EM35, which does have one copy (but I would like a new-new one!). Just hope Moto will "not" come out another color for EM35 for me to "swtich". Back to A3100, the bad news is my US$10 with Crystal Talk "might" be in vain....because other sources indicated A3100 is an OEM product from a Taiwanese company. The Crystal Talk feature is still not confirmed yet. The other bad news is, after reading a review in Chinese (as Moto Taiwan held a press conference for A3100 yesterday), no word was mentioned about the availability of radio. So I still keep my figures crossed on 2 of my favorite features on A3100: Crystal Talk and radio. Though I'll still likely buy this phone afterall. The suggested retail price is NT$15900, and under the current exchange rate, that means around US$500! Hope by the time A3100 reaches HK, price will be around US$400, which is my bottom line for any phone. Around the same time last year, I paid around US$400 for my Q9h (after some US$120 rebate from operator). As my contract will end soon, I might get another good deal from the operator. The good news is A3100 shall be available in Taiwan in about a week or 2.

  • F@G!

  • BArt if it has a wifi and speed connections u can log on every internet radio u need. But yeah i guess ther's no FM on it

  • By the way ... GSMarena - dont forget that this handset has a LED flashlight at the top and 3,2Mpx camera also with LED flash - and its really important!!!

  • can some one tell me does this phone has FM RADIO , it will be biiiiig downfall if there is no fm receiver , thank you and sorry for bad english :)

  • neat,....

  • Good to see Moto get back in the game. Way better looking than other smart phones. Just have to wait & see the actual specification & hands on experience.

  • Finally Moto! This device looks great, and has great features.. I can't wait to buy one...

  • I always accept the fact that with billions of people in this world, there will be some with different education backgrounds and levels BUT they should not be discouraged from posting their comments here. Right people? Inaccurate spellings or grammar are not as bad as compared to some with perfect English but manipulated people's thinking with it. "We don't need to be offensive in order to reach our objective". I'm sure Motorola, like Sony Ericcson, Nokia or Samsung is trying to produce a competitive product. For some people, A3100 is not good enough but for others, they'll buy it. There's no need to condemn people's choice or their educational background here.

  • at last! some goodlooking phone from motorola.. and with wifi!hahahaha

  • awesome phone...not!

  • Powerful Features with absolutely best design. Looks like i'll cancel to buy X'peria, and wait for MOTO A3100

  • this phone is realy perfect and complete and very beter frome xperya,apple,omnia,... yaaaa

  • vow vow vow its realy well moto must stand first

  • motorola a3100 come to kill apple 3g & xperia & omnia &... its realy powerfull whit best design features and performance

  • Will look at the price first before buying this phone. If the price lower than Xperia, Omnia and TouchPro, then it will be a must buy.... =D No Radio? No problem, I have my ROKR E6 and W362 for such feature.

  • Look awesome, will surely get one when it releases. Hope moto doesn't drag the release date too long...

  • My only disappointment is that the screen should at least be 3", and why isn't there an FM radio? I mean, it's not a big deal but as a fan of Motorola from day one I would like to see them bring a phone with everything. Don't come with extra features and omit the little ones which some people find as necessities. Nice design though. If its one thing Motorola always had going for it was good build quality and design. Ok!! they played out the razr design, but Motorola is an innovator. They set the trend, and others follow. I know some of you are going to say the student becomes better than the teacher, but in this case its all about bad management on moto's behalf. Can't wait to see the Android phone. Hoping it's the flash or calgary. Again spectacular designs.

  • Yeah, red color is not for me too. For me, my phone is a tool for business so perception is important therefore I guess color for me is mostly black, dark blue & greyish. Ha, ha, sometimes I wonder what kind of non-PDA phone I can select to buy when my preferences are narrowed down to such specs - Crystaltalk, Linux OS, bar or slide design, must be the abovementioned color. I'm probably getting more fussy as I got older (LOL). Someone mentioned that this phone is meant for 2007 and I won't disagree AND agrees with him either. I believe it's all how we all perceive the design, the specs and the performance. Looking at the specs alone, they certainly look like my ASUS when launched in 2007 BUT the track pad, the fingerprint recognition and the 10x optical zoom are all NEVER available in 2007. (based on another earlier post's info). Maybe some people's expectations are way too high, if that's the case, many other PDA phones like HTCs, Toshiba, even HP are still embracing 2007's technology in their devices. Many years ago, I was very impressed with Motorola's MPx 300, the first Windows based phone I've seen with multiple flip angles and I thought that was innovative. Actually I still like the design until today. I was using O2 XDA IIs at that time with bigger screen which I preferred. I was wondering what if A3100's specs were to fit into a MPx300's improved body? To me, it'll be awesome. I really hope this one comes with Crystaltalk and it'll be the first again in PDA phone industry. Again, let's hope gsmarena conduct a review on this model.

  • So disappointed with Moto's marketing team, who is "hiding" about the availability of Crystal Talk on many of its phones. As you asked whether or not A3100 would have Crystal Talk, I tried to search for Moto's websites (HK & US) regarding my own Q9h, call me naive, I can't find anything about the availability of Crystal Talk. Though I do recall about having Crystal Talk in my own manual, plus for Q11 & Q8, the Moto China's website stated they both have Crystal Talk. So I'd bet US$10 A3100 should have Crystal Talk. The only 3G Moto phone being released after K3 without Crystal Talk should be the shameful VE538, which isn't made by Moto anyway. (heard being OEM by BenQ) Out of the topic, EM35 just released in HK last nite, one chain is selling for US$241 with Bluetooth H375 free of charge. Only concern I've is I don't like red...

  • man Linux not work in Canada because Advance Call ID Windows Mobile is top ... because you can install any GPS software .. like Tomtom .. Igo 8 or Garmin XT will be iphone killer this machin

  • i have used motorola e6 rokr and it was really awsome and i m still having it as a secondary mobile . now i m having nokia 5320 and really motorokr e6's sound quality is a bit low volumed and 5320 is having loud but noisy . i think motorola is the best company but not known by many people but still i love motorokr and i dont want to sell it and have it till my last breath coz i have done alot of experiments on it and i started windows 3.1 on it really i promise . now my next phone will be this

  • it's simply WONDERFUL to see that ppl realize that this phone is GREAT!

  • I'm surprised but happy that Motorola managed to come up with another Windows Mobile OS PDA phone. I like PDA phone, I'm using ASUS P735 PDA phone now running with Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro, specs - 520Mhz turbo processor, 256 ROM, 65K 240x320 screen, 3G (not important to me, never used it), GPS and Wifi. Because I'm a heavy phone user, I make & receive calls with my ROKR E8, keeping my ASUS for organizing work, email, GPS, reminders, taking notes and to do list. I might not change to this model as the specs between my ASUS and this model are very close but I would say this is a good effort from Moto, the only thing to observe now is the price of this model. Since all the latest Moto models come with Crystaltalk technology, I wonder whether this model has it as I didn't see it stated in the specification section. If Crystaltalk is available, this will be the ONLY Windows mobile PDA phone in the world that has background noise reduction and automatic voice amplification capabilities just like Moto's V8, V9, U9, E8 and other latest Motorola models but built in a PDA phone. About Windows Mobile OS phones with touchscreen (PDA phone), if a person is used to its OS and knows how to make full use of its true capabilities, it is very hard to go back to normal conventional phone. If I'm given only one choice to choose between a normal phone like say Motorola V9, SE 902 or Nokia N78 and a Windows Mobile PDA phone, I'll go for the PDA phone for sure. I'm practically using my PDA phone now for business purpose only, its phone usage is approx. less than 1% as I use my E8 strictly for communication, I like the Crystaltalk in my Moto E8 - for the listening comfort of my clients, family members & friends. For my PDA phone, I'm using it to read worldwide news between breaks(Avantgo channels free daily update via Wifi), emails, taking notes (paperless), even storing manual drawing illustrations with its touchscreen free hand drawing, free GPS for life unlike Nokia's and editing Powerpoint presentation on the go for fine tuning before actual presentation without my notebook. I also like the hand writing recognition, for me it is faster to write than pressing key buttons on a phone. (Maybe I'm so used to it) So I would fully recommend this model for those who wants to enhance their daily productivity & improve overall performance in their career, it is a fantastic tool.

  • unique phone

  • thanks moto we was wistful for a3100

  • motorola a3100 come to kill apple 3g & xperia & omnia &... its realy powerfull whit best design features and performance

  • WinMob 6.1 ? I wonder if it will include the IE6 browser upgrade, and if it will get that intermediate Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade later. Don't want to get this one to find out next month there's another model with updates this one won't get.

  • Hey...... It's very cheerful to see this phone, i think all the specs are fabulous, for me, only one think that disappoint me, it use Windows mobile, not Linux, sadly.... I hope it'll enter Indonesia market ASAP, that would be great seeing this phone on my pocket....ha ha ha ha... --Indonesia Motolovers--

  • i have used this phone at the zeus mobile expo. The tracl pad is simply awesome it navigates on the basis on a complex rendering algorithm.which enables it render pages quite exactly. The track pad also has finger print reognizition module which works like a charm. The camera was a bit nosiy howver the stand alone feature is that it has a 10x optical zoom interpolated with a ephrical zooms lens which make sures that the pictures dont come out hazy.*769877# renders the gps module so that you can lock in the satelite and would send you the exact date as to when you would get a high tide if you are sailing(i found this feature very helpful cause i go out in my yatch frequently). The sound quality is way better than a ipod.the harmoic distortion and the frequency response are very good.

  • little bit too late Motorola.......

  • hi ppl!! i am much surprised that this is the first time motorola have produce such a good looking and durable phone. And all i have to say is keep up the good work motorolla!!! horay

  • Great phone! Good features and designe. For sure I'll have one.

  • I certainly will get one as long as my local Moto distributor carries it. (don't see any reason why not) Meanwhile, likely I'll get VE66 before this, and I already bought my first Moto phone this year...the low-end EM(3)25 slide. May also get L72 and Z6 due to bankruptcy sale of certain electronic chain. And I ended up with buying 14 Moto phones last year! (some for my wife/mom/in-laws)

  • looking sleek im defin. gettin this phone

  • it's about time motorola have a flagship "storm - iphone kinda phone" yet the ROM and RAM size doesnt quite impressive to my liking :(

  • WOW, I like it, but I will prefer the Nokia tube for 2 reasons: 1- Have Windows Mobile should be fine Android or Symbian 2- The Camera only 3.2 MPX but is a standar for these Kind of phones like Xperia, Tube, HTC, etc. I have to recognize that Motorola made a great improvement with this phone, We know Samsung and Nokia lead the market, and with this phone now is on the way... Don't forget the Ming's series From Motorola, he was making this phone so much before that the iphone or other maker.. and nobody sees that. but the revolution was made it by apple with his iphone. Good Job Moto, keep in that way and release more phones like this.

  • oooooooh fabulous cellphone it's extremely much better than iphone. this handset can beat any touch phone, cause motorola has awesome experience in touch phone from along time. GOOOOO ahead moto.

  • For this year I think that Motorola must change the settings. Estoy cansada de ver que cada vez la pantalla no se cambia porque? Motorola es telfono sin progreso sobre los parmetros.

  • cool phone ..(yeyeyeye me ..!! me is da 1st one to post ..:) ..)

  • It supports up to 32GB micro SD memory cards

  • Really dissapointing only 65 k color?Otherwise its quite nice featured phone.

  • ya motorola designers good no like nokia ..... all nokia now made in chinese all tradition

  • nice looking phone with good set of features, being motorola am assured of good qulaity. hope pricing is competitive enough,...

  • i have this mobile phone i just bought it on 5th january 09 ... it is a great phone :)

  • Your eye connot see more than 65k and windows mobile doesnt support more than 65k

  • wow!!!! lauch it in singapore ... let ppl in singapore shock that motorola rocks.... with ur designs and feature.... great job moto!

  • hell, yeah, this is GREAT! it'll be a lot better than xperia because it has similar features with a such lower price ;)

  • Surprise, I thought Motorola was about dead, no new models coming out for some time, and specifications of Stone Age. Much much better now, very goodlooking, nice shape (if this is the final one...), HSDPA 7.2 and WiFi both there, litte doubt on WM6.1Pro (Android would be nicer), and screen 240x320 is just Middle Ages. If price is OK (!) I could possibly prefer it over BB Bold. Same style and dimensions. This one is touch, the RIM device has full querty and marvellous screen, and a very good processor and O.S. If it comes under 350 it will be mine soon.

  • Hey, are you guys workers of Motorola or what??? why are you praising this phone? What is unique about this???? This phone is meant for 2007. Come to think of it, we are in 2009. This can never be a response from motorola, rather is to help those people who cannot afford high-end touch screen windows mobile devices to have a feel of the experience. In short this is a budget windows mobile for mid-entry level users.!

  • A good wake-up answer from Motorola. I'll definately buy that one as soon as it comes out here in South Africa. The screen resolution should have been at least 360*480, 5MP camera and 3.5mm audio/Tv jack then it would be a perfect WinMo phone for me, maybe they'll come up with a perfect one on Android. Welldone Moto!

  • powerrr !

  • The Best of Motorola......

  • Seems quite professional....Lets wait and see

  • Dear rajiv , You should know that one's eyes can't recognize 65k and 16m screen !! So it's not that much important . :-}

  • Finally ... i was waiting a phone like this!!! With 7,2 3,5G and wifi. and gps and also normal camera :) if its come out it will be really my favourite phone

  • Only a fool wouldn't vote this phone with 10/10. Its Motorola's answer to Samsung's touchsceen phones and to be honest that is the BEST answer EVER!! So i hope 100Moto will be ready to help me support this phone with his knowlege. Well done MOTO

  • OMG! I will definitely buy ths one! It looks cool. Good going motorola

  • 66K screen is too bad, atleast 256k should be there.

  • wow.. moto u are rocking, i wish the price goes cheaper.

  • Nice phone!!!

  • Oh no it's windows mobilz. Not so good then...

  • Is niice! Maybe finally Motorolla is back after RAZOR V3 (King of Phones)
