Motorola V180 - User Reviews

  • I really like them. I'm doing a class presentation on the Evolution of the Cell Phone and the v180 is over all my favorite

  • My first cell phone and I still have it! :-)

  • I've had mine for years, it sits on the shelf for those times when one of my primary GSM phones fails - I just pop the sim in and keep up voice commms until the new phone is sorted. I also use mine (unlocked) when I travel overseas, just pop in a local sim and off I go. True it's dated, but it is a solid voice & limited text phone for emergency use.

  • My first one!!

  • how do you delete text messages? i can not find the subject matter in the instruction book

  • Hi i have a motorola V180 i like the phone but it does not ring. Now i cannot repair it cause there are no parts found. What do i do now

  • Nice phone, simple and clear.

  • My 2 years of experience with this mobile: Pros: stylish, cute (meh), acceptable battery life during the first months Cons: AWFUL keypad (never recommended for SMS ers), Phonebook and SMS inbox capacity is VERY low, menus are complicated, could be very vulnerable to shock, buggy software, 'Ok' and 'Cancel' keys sometimes exchange functionality (e.g. when trying to save a new contact) which is very weird, and a lot more...! If you care about ease of use, don't come near Motorola cellphone.

  • I have had my V180 for over 2 years and I love it. It died Friday and I am looking for a replacement just like it!

  • You can purchase the software on ebay, make sure you purchase the Motorola software.

  • I have been using my V-180 for a few years now, I love it. It is a quad ban. I purchased another V 180 quad ban (new) from ebay, just in case something happens to this one. I also purchased the Motorola software to download my personal music and photos.

  • the best phone there will ever be..being that Russia is the superiors..any products that are compatible to there networks , is by far , more than ok...

  • i am using motrola v180, but my gprs is not working so what do i do?

  • it great and cool, but my gprs is not working. so what do i do?

  • this kit is nice,it was my first colored phone and given by my father.suddenly it was damaged.

  • Nice phone, but not very reliable. I have had it for less than a year, when the external displya has cracked (I didn't drop it or anything). A short while later, an intenal display has started to fail. Eventually, I had no way of seing who is calling me, or what number(s) am I dialing because neither of two displays worked. Even before that, I experienced some problems with reception. The phone had trouble picking up the signal when I was leaving and re-entering the coverage area (e.g. coming out from underground), it would take up to a few minutes for it to re-connect to a network. Sometimes I even had to turn it off and then back on to help it to pick up the signal... Nice phone, cool design, lots of feature, but all that didn't compensate for all the drawbaks it had...

  • motorola v 180 is really unforgetable phone to me infact it is cute one and can stay for long time.I stayed with this phone almost 3 years till it was stollen.i will always miss it.chao motorola v180

  • it was very good I THROWN ACCIDENTALLY 4 or5 timesbut it was super

  • this phone is great until its display works properly. my phone screen went blank and i don't know what to do coz its repair cost doesnot suit my budget.

  • I had this phone for 2.5 years, it works great, never broke or anything. Has all the basic features, phone is phone, don't need camera and stuff for it.

  • initially for 1 month the phone was great... but then its vibrator stopped working , then lcd display and now the speaker also often dont work............................ i even cant repair the lcd because its connector is not available ..........can anybody help me out i have no option

  • Grrrrreat phone!!! The display could be bigger, but it's a great phone!

  • LOVE IT! I've had the v180 for 2 years. It's survived being dropped almost daily (suffering scratches). My antenna broke off twice cuz I had the phone in my pants pocket. Reception isn't the best, but that's probably the network not the phone. No other problems. I really like this phone. Recently, I forgot it was in my shorts pocket and it went for a ride thru the washer and dryer. Surprisingly, it still works. The backlight doesn't come on anymore, but I can still use the phone features. The battery doesn't keep its charge long. Maybe just needs a new battery, but can't do w/o the backlight. Searching for a new phone to measure up to this tough cookie. Saved all numbers to my SIM card in prep for new phone.

  • i had this thing for right at 2 years and it was a piece... it worked ok but its soo so outdated ad the screen is like 1"x 1"which made it very hard to read

  • i have had mine for 3 years and it works perfect. it looks brand new. i just wish it had music

  • I got this free as a replacement for an older Moto T-series that broke. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this plasticky free phone but to my surprise it was pretty full featured considering its date of introduction and at least under my ownership, has performed well and has been reliable. Battery life is very good and reception has been better than all of my friends' expensive phones. Its also very customizable by WAP'ing your own materials for free to the phone. I ve used it for roughly a year and I just ordered a new phone, a much prettier, more expensive phone but it only has 2/3 the battery life of this trusty V180 and the reception isn't as good. Go figure.

  • I have V180 phone for two years. Reception and battery life are MUCH BETTER comparing with useless Razor. V180 is a good working horse. I do not have any complaints so far. Do not blame phone for bad network .

  • this phone screen jus turned blue on me and stopped vibrating. it's a real boggas phone

  • I have a V180 two years old. It is a very bad quality phone. The main problem with this is the internal flex. After six months I was using my phone the vibrator stopped, then the external screen was blank, and later the internal screen stopped working too. All these problems happened because the flex was broken. Last month I bought a nex flex and changed it. I think I will have this phone for six months more and then the problems will start again.

  • verry gid

  • my fon is 1 1/2 yrs old de service is really bad it just blacks out!!i love it cus its my 1st fon nd its black...dus ne1 no wer/if i cud buy a cover 4 it?!>BYE BYE MOTO:*)

  • I've got 2 V180s through unicel as a family share package the phones cost me $30 each with a $30 mail in rebate and a two year contract i've had them for a year and a half now and i get great service and havent had any problems with them i guess it depends on your network and your GSM version

  • lilyput if you still wanna save your phone book send me a mail and i will help you cubett@gmailcom

  • its really rubbish i have had myne 6 months and theres button fallin out and everything sctrached up im gettin a sony ericsson fone on monday

  • I've had this phone for 1 1/2 years. I've started having problems with reception and dropped calls. It's not the network because my husaband's phone works fine in the same area. Stay away from this phone.

  • wow... none of this has happened to mine yet... but all these complaints are freakin' me out a little... and the phone does have terrible reception...

  • I thought motorola v180 is such a good phone till 7 months.after 7 months, the problem starts.first, the vibrator doesn't work.secondly, the buttons become very worse.I cant even message and type the phone numbers.thirdly, the external screen got broken and replacing charge is high.then reception is very poor.Buy this at your own risk...

  • Lilyput - if anyone has answered your question I would appreciate if you could forward that to me. I am having the exact same problem. Thank you!

  • I've had this phone for less than 2 years & the LCD screen went blank. Because you can't use fun options when saving #s on the SIM card, I never saved them there & I've lost all my numbers. IF SOMEONE STILL HAS A WORKING PHONE, CAN YOU PLEASE POST A STEP-BY-STEP (ex: go to your phone book, hit options, go 2 down, etc.) INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO SAVE #s TO SIM? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

  • this is a kool fone i luv it yeah baby

  • I got this phone for christmas in 2004, it worked fine for almost a year, then right after the warrenty expired, the vibrator stopped working, and the ringer is EXTREMELY quiet, i have it turned up all the way. So I'm always missing calls. And this phone gets extremely bad reception, i can't use this phone at home because i have no signal at home. Overall, i'm very disappointed with this phone.

  • Can someone tell me how to play videos on this phonee and how to fix mssgs,i have 6 mssg inbox. What to do?

  • I have a v180. First the vibrator stopped, then the outer screen was just blank. Diagnostic...flex broken, and its replacement is very expensive. It is a very BAD quality phone.

  • the screen sucks on this phone

  • help why are v180 lcds not interchangeable,i switched one to another it would not work.how do i fix this

  • my screen is just blue. there isn't anything on it except a blue screen.

  • i also had this phone and at first it worked very well. i had for a little less than two years when problems started to occur. at first, the outer screen display (where the time is & everything) kept screwing up. it would freeze, get blurry, then finally went blank. this didnt bother me, until the main screen froze and went blank. i couldnt retreive any of my numbers i stupidly saved to phone instead of sim, i lost all my downloaded songs and background, and i had already spent money on it for a new cover.

  • this phone is just frozen like the buttons don't work and the screen is frozen it is frozen on this txt message my boyfriend sent me so i can't like ask my parents for help cuz they wud read the txt. it won't work! help! don't buy this phone it has terrible reception as well

  • My experience is very hard. This phone had experimented three problems, the first is the screen. The technics replace them. Second, the system was out, never I can be power on again. The repair was put another board of the phone (new phone). Now the vibrator doesn't work. And lost the signal in any time.

  • Stay away from this phone! I;ve gone through 2 of them in a year. The first one lasted 5 months and then there was a problem with the screen. I got it replaced but the 2nd one totally died last night. It only worked for 7 months, just after the warranty expired. Now i have to get a new one. Buy this at your own risk.

  • I want this phone so bad.I been wanting this phone for like 1 years.I am getting it this summer.I cant wait.I am going to talk on my cell phone insteaed of the house phone.

  • was a great phone when i first bought it then for some reason it stoped working the ringer would not ring the screen would go out the phone would shut off on its on it was always freezeing up and droping calls everything was fix able when you took the battery out to reset the phone i do not recomend anyone buying this phone because after about a month of use all this will start happening

  • im gona buy this phone today(going to market)..then i will post my opinions

  • I use to love this phone until it stopped ringing. No, not becasue my friends stopped calling, but because the phone is bunk. Everything works except the ringer! My friends are really pissed at me cuz they think I'm ignoring their calls when really my phone turned into a mute.

  • I love it it freezes alot and the screen goes black 4 around 30 seconds i have 9 downloads and its a cool phone

  • u kno what!ppl have issues wit me cuz they stole my v180.i hate people who likes stealing other ppls fones.i paid a lot of money for mine u kno. its $1200.00 of my dollars for this fone.

  • i bought dis phone dis yr and i cant believe it im so fed up with the phone wat can i do wid it .

  • like oh my god!is this d coolest fone or what?!!i mean, apart from the coolest graphics it has a techno ring tone.everytime i hear is wen my people call me on a sat 2 go chill and sat is a techno liming day! yeah baby!

  • this fone is the coolest ever.it saved my life when i was drunk and had a hang over. i couldn't hold and barf so i was able to rest it on the sink.hmm, i love this fone,it's my life saver.

  • I've used my V180 for 8 months then the display started showing funny "inverted" and "double sized" charaters. T-mobile then replace a new one for free and I'm still using it, now problem since then. Of course if you put the phone in your pocket or purse (which has lot of dust), the dust can get into the window easily. Simply open the cover and clean it. The bactary life was very good, under normal daily usage, last over 3, 4 days.

  • Just a note for all. I've had mine for nearly a year and it still works as well as the day I bought it. Treat the phone well and it will last. I've used it here (u.s.) and also in Britain. If you take as good of care of it as you do your ipod, it will last you just as long.

  • Incredible battery duration. Specs say 216h, but once tuned (with usage) it can stand up to 280h in wait mode (even talking every so and so up to 1 h in total, so maybe it can last up to 300h).

  • My V180 is six months old. Crap (mold?) started growing on the inside the window display (there's even a hair in there). It's never gotten wet, dropped, or mistreated. The window is unuseable now and this problem is not covered under warranty. No more Motorola anything for me.

  • This has been one of the cheapest phone i've bought and has worked the best. Great reception exeptional battery life and with the usb connectivity, i have my favorite java applet running. Great phone allround

  • This phone has very nice features and a very nice design. However, its performance is terrible. I've had 3 of the model and finally demanded an upgrade which works better but I'll admit that I do miss many of the features of the phone such as multiple alarms, a sleep mode, and personalized ringtones. I DO NOT MISS dropped calls, the phone freezing so that I had to take the battery out to end a call and also the constant static in the background. All 3 phones of this model had a problem with my 5 button sticking. The sound was also the best on speakerphone... not so great for privacy.

  • for all who have problems connecting the phone to a PC !!! download motorola mobile phone tools and the v180 usb driver from the net. i found them free !!! instal both of them and.. TADA it works! now you can transfer pictures, mp3's, even java games... the only inconvinience is the small 2 mb memory :((...

  • Does anyone know where I can get the driver for this phone? I have a USB cable to hook into my computer, but I don't know where to download the driver to make everything work properly. IF you know something that I don't, please email me. I would highly appreciate it.

  • i need help on putting pic from the cp on to the phone if u can help me send a email thanx

  • Does anyone know how to put pictures/ringtones on this phone from a computer?? I have a usb cable that fits, (amazing!) but i'm a bit unclear as how to send the files to the phone. I am trying midi files, I dont know if they will work on the phone. Help would be greatly appreciated. Like, really REALLY appreciated.

  • i just got this phone and it looks cool with the class 10 gprs and all the features,mpeg4,mp3 ringtones and all those stuffs.

  • is this phone exist at the philippines?? coz i just got one from my friend..

  • Let me be VERY clear about this. When you first get the Motorola V180, you think it is great. However, within 4-6 months of normal use, something will happen to cause the phone to start having SERIOUS problems. The display will not come on. The phone will freeze. You will not be able to answer calls. I have gone through 2 of these phones in 13 months. The reception is not great, and its reliability is POOR. Stay away from this phone at all costs.

  • well those that tell bad things about this cell i just guess they are unlucky, sorry but well is true i had this cellphone for almost a year and i havn't had a single problem, the reception is very good and clear and has many cool tones, wallpapers and games, so far is the best one I ever had

  • At first when i bought this phone i thought it was the cutest thing but its not what i expected, it keeps going blank like whenever it feels like

  • i bougth my V180 phone last year, and i'm so happy, every time i try something new,for example this weak i bought the usb drivers and i listen music from the computer to phone, and if you don't know ,he has 40 bass.

  • This phone has a very sleek design and it looks very cute, but it's not reliable at all. I was thinking on buying it, because I was looking for a nice phone without camera.A friend of mine had it and it didn't last not even a month. The face plate was all scratched and both screens looked like a blurr of colors. She couldn't know who was calling or see anything on the screens. She could barely dial the phone number and call, without knowing if she was typing the correct number. And all because she let it fall from her night stand. I still liked the phone pretty much. And I thought I should get some opinions in the internet. I did and most of them were negative and some were positive. I still thought that I liked it and when I was in the dealer, I asked an employee about the phone. She didn't want to trash the phone. She just said it was fragile. And so I was convinced. I bought a Motorola v172 and it's pretty good too. I love it!!!!! People plz don't buy this phone!!!! It's a waste of money. It'll be a miracle if it lasts more than a month.

  • check this out: www.brokenv180.com

  • this cell phone its the worst phone ever made, the flex is the worst, i work at a cell store and about the 85% of the problems came with this cell phoneand the problem came with the flex.

  • Why are almost everybody disqualifying this fine phone (V180).This is the Phone I am about purchasing cos the specification are just okay by me but from what i read so far I feel discouraged. Do i disregard the negetive comment about the phone and purchase it or go for another Brand?

  • Hi.I Bought the Motorola V180...This me say this in a nice way.! The Phone ! Is a peace of SHIT$$. Not only is its the worst phone ever made it looks like a peace of crap the only reason i bought the phone was because i was with fido and i didint have the options to get a decent phone that plays mp3's.There was one other phone and i bought it and the phone was pastic and i didint like it at all. But the Motorola V180 Save your self Money cause its crap.My screen broke on the outside cover call display screen. How i put it in my pocket and when i took it out the ink was leaking then it started to burn and it smelled really bad.My calls got disconnected most of the time .They put a button on the outside of the phone so when u put it in your pants it changes your ring tones and it some times mutes the phone. The Battery last about 3 hrs of hard use if that. The phone is made of horseshit and if you drop it u pretty much cry cause u watch ur 200$ dissippear. Dont buy that crap Motorola said they would look at it and fix it.I said screw it and went and got another phone. Its a peace of shit i lost 200 on that junk and dont buy the newer version the phones crap. I went and bought Samsung Sgh-x497 that works with fido.Just got it the other day so far im very impressed The sound Is 150 percent sounds awesome and its got good speakers. The screen inside it awesome so clear its beautiful very good grapixs.I heard it supports aol yahoo msn and icq chat.Theres a alot of settings so i have to check it all out.The phone feels strong and well built.I love the look for once fido made a good phone that looks good and supports mp3's It dont support camera but i mean what can ya do.Other wise im impressed with what i got wish they made it before because i would have bought it hands down. The outside caller id window Nice and strong not cheap at all Shows alot of stuff how many pissed calls phone number battery time and i even put alittle pressure on the demo phone and it never when cracked. They put Plastic over top of the caller id window so it protects the screen well done. If your lookin for a good phone trust me by the new samsung.Worth every penny .Somepeople said the weight of the phone is not that light but i dont mind it .The only thing i didint like was when you put it up to your ear it feels alittle werd like it dont fit ur face like most phones. But other then that im impressed.

  • I bought this phone for my daughter and she says that she can't ever get any signal. I have a motorola but mine always has signal, she always has dropped calls and her faceplate is cracked from being dropped, it also freezes for no apparent reason at all she says after her contract is over she will by a new phone.

  • Why does the screen sometime freeze up and how do you record noises?

  • Any way to take a recorded sound and turn it into a ringtone?

  • This is for Alan, How did you flash your V180 to make the Cingular Sim work? We cannot get our V180's to work with our Cingular Sims and Cingular states that we have to purchase thier phones. Any suggestions?

  • to the solution of keypads not lighting up!! On select handset models, the keypad back-light operation is light sensitive. There is a light sensor located underneath the bumper next to the key that acts as a switch to turn the keypad lights on. When in an area of adequate light, the keypad will not illuminate to help conserve battery power. When in an area of low light, the sensors will allow for the keypad to illuminate within a few moments of the flip being opened or a key being pressed. This is a part of the phone's design, and cannot be disabled. This function can be demonstrated by placing your hand over the bumper, *, 7, 4, and 1 keys, then pressing any uncovered button several times. This should cause the keypad lights to illuminate regardless of the amount of ambient light.

  • I have a usb cable from digital cam, but i can't find drivers for my mobile Please help me, however is very good phone.

  • I had my v180 for about 10 months, and from day one it had problems with dropping calls... anywhere from 10 - 45 minutes and then the bars would drop down to nothing and the call would drop. After that the bars would go right back up, like it just didn't have enough power to sustain a signal. Then yesterday, the screen went black. At first I was able to fiddle with it to get it to work, but it wasn't consistent. Its under warranty... but it will take anywhere from 14-60 days to have it fixed. I'd say steer clear of this POS, the lady at my cell office admitted they see a large amount of these phones come back for service. I bought a v555 this morning and it looks like from the other reviews to be a pretty solid choice.

  • I bought two of these phones and have had them for about 3 months. My wife was always having a problem with hers cutting out and dropping calls. The phones are cheaply made. I dropped mine and the outer screen shattered. The only positive I can give this phone is that the battery life was great, but what good does a strong battery do you if the phone itself is a piece of junk. Don't waste your money. I will never buy a Motorola phone again.

  • I bought 3 of these phones, one for my daughter, my wife and myself. The reception is so bad my daughter has already dumped hers in the trash and bought a new phone. My reception is terrible even with the telescopic ebay antenna and "booster" installed. People I call say the phone is very noisey and not clear. I will soon put my phone with my daughters. This is the last Moto phone I will ever own.

  • I have had this motoroal v180 for 3 months now..And it will not pick up recpetion.. I would not have this phone if they gave it to me free..I would like to have my nokia back but they said it was outdated.. AT least I could make a phone call when I wanted too.. I will never have one of these phones again.. I never get to use any of my minutes ..that i pay 40 bucks a month for... cant wait till 2 years is up to renew my contract..

  • I bought the pone yesterday and its very nice! It has the essential for me: MMS, EMS, SMS,IM,GPRS,WAP,MPEG4 player, good screen, games, etc. Although it doesnt have a camera which I dont care cause i already have my digital camera hehe! Its very light and small enough! I love it!!! I recommend it for those, who dont care to have a camera phone but yes a very useful phone :P

  • Sweet phone, no camera but its good enough for me. I bought it for US equivalent$120 in a small country called Guyana, I got the cable and software so I put in MP3 tones like everyday and I also got some really cool wallpapers, the space is 2.2Mb It works really well when it comes to reception, not much features but our service dont support mobile internet so what the heck. OH my phone dont have aol..i dont know how come This phone is good enough for the price. Nice and small have a slick design the mp3 rings sound very loud and clean. Good work Moto! if u need pics & tones contact me for any model! don't mind helping

  • I love my phone. I have had it for about a month now and never once I had a problem with it. The reason I got a new phone is because I had an LG1300 and it was a piece of crap that is why I got a new phone. If you are having problems with your phone just call the customer service line for the cell phone company you have and they should send you a new phone. That is what Cingular did for me.

  • I bought the V180 in November 2004. I have had one replacement phone. The problems I have experienced are: an excessive amount of dropped calls and being unable to get a signal where other phones are working and a message: "Emergency only" displaying on the screen whenever I enter a store. I cannot rely on this phone at all.

  • all you out there complaining about this phone are crazy i am military stationed overseas this phone sells for 130 euro over here i bought mine from back in the states now i have had it on ship for 6 month now and i have droped it from deck to deck i have laid my rack on it by mistake crushed it between my person and a heavy object and the phone to this day is still going strong i havent had any problems with the screen or voice mail notification nothing and i have always been able to keep reception up to 10 miles out to sea when other people useing different phones that are even qaud band cant get it in side the hull of the ship where there is nothing but metal surrounding you i even get good reception so those of you out there crying about this is a bad phone better look at what you are doing to it because i work in an enviroment that is very hard on everything aroung it and my phone is still going strong i used to hate motorola but thanks to this phone and the c116 they are all i will buy any question concerns email me we can talk about them or if you want an eurpoen phone that will work in the states with any service provider email me we can do some buisness

  • I bought the V180 in October 2004. Since then I have had 3 replacement phones. I am getting ready to have my fourth one replaced. The inside screen on the first three phones went black. Sometimes the phone would turn off by itself. Now with this fourth "refurbished" phone the on/off button has not worked since I received it in April 2005. It takes me hours on end to turn it on after it has been turned off. The battery died once and I plugged it in to recharge and the exterior screen showed nothing. It didn't say it was charging or anything. When I was finally able to turn it back on it had fully charged. I contacted my provider about this problem and they wanted to troubleshoot. That would involve turning off my phone. I said I was not willing to do that. I asked her how would they troubleshoot anything with the phone off. They know there are problems with this phone, why can't they just send me another refurbished piece of crap? I have also been having an issue with voice mail notifications. None of the 4 V180's I've had has notified me when a voice mail has been left. I receive a notification when a text message has been sent. I am going to the store today, I'll ask one of the employees to fix it.

  • I have had service with Cingular for 5 plus years and never had a problem with service until now. I had previously had Nokia phones which worked great. My contract was up for renewal and so I updated and got the Motorola V180 phone and it is HORRIBLE!!!!! I have continuously had signal problems and dropped calls. I have signal problems in the middle of the city, which is CRAZY. 2 months after having the phone the screen goes out. I have called Cingular a couple of times and they give me this bull about turning the phone off and it will upgrade. I think that is just to suffice a disgruntly customer to no avail. My advice STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONE!!

  • what a piece of crap! I went with this model in nov 2004 and am now on my 3rd replcement! The screen goes blank, drops calls and for a while I had to take the battery out and put it back in before I could call out! I called cingular and asked how many complains withi this model? All they would tell me " We are aware of the problems with this phone?" - gee, guess they know what we are just finding out!

  • I've had my v180 for six months. The outside screen and the inside screen has went blank. It lights up, but no readout. Any easy fix?

  • I received mine yesterday and I think it's a great phone. Much better than my old SonyEricsson T230. But I have a few complaints: Yeah, the manual is bad and lacks many things. Is there a option to deactivate sound or use vibration without having to turn down the volume (and pressing the down button 6 or 7 times)? And the worst thing is the phone book. Is it possible not to show the SIM entries? I have all the contacts stored in tel and SIM, and each of them appears 2 times!! Besides that, if you have several numbers for a person, they will appear also at multiple entries. With the T230 there's only one entry for person and the you can select the number you want.

  • i currently have this phone... the reception SUX and trust me its not my phone company its the PHONE and its sooo horrible

  • i have had my phone for 2 months and i didnt drop it and the front screen, the thing i love the most had broken...i dont know y i heard that it was a model recall or damage of this brand of phone?...i dont know...

  • decent phone.. except mine has a problem with the display.. cant see squat.. the hard reset to factory doesnt even work.. This is a notorious problem.. where you cant see anything on the display but it is working.. so far it has been crap for me

  • I LOVE my v180. No problems and I've had it for a little over a month now. Guess I got the 1 in 5 that works. I know 4 other people that own the same model, that's why I bought it. Do not listen to the 1 or 2 people who've had a bad experience with the phone. Just grab some cheap face plates. No one likes the same ol' same ol' all the time anyways.

  • DO NOT buy this phone, It has the highest failure rate of any phone i've ever seen. 4 out of 5 V180's that I have sold failed with in the first 2 weeks.

  • Hey McKay, it's true that the front plastic sctratches really easy on the V180. You should either invest a few bucks in a body glove or buy a couple of replacement faceplates (they're only a few bucks on Ebay). You can have smiley faces on it if you want ;) Alan

  • Regarding freezing up of phones: the ATT (Cingular Blue) customer service lady told me a couple of weeks ago that Motorola is aware that some of their models are freezing up (they say it's a network issue, sure!!) .. I have had no probs. Anyway, she said Motorola advises to do a "cold boot" (I think she said) every few days to avoid the problem. By that she meant remove both the battery and the SIM, wait a few minutes, then reassemble. The phone should then work fine. Hope that helps out. Alan

  • I have had my V180 since about Christmas, no probs at all. Improved the signal strength with a cheapie telescopic antenna off Ebay. Busted the inside screen (they don't bounce very well) but got a replacement on Ebay from China for about $20, it was a snap to install! My son-in-law's Cingular phone (a V220) messed up (my V180 is an ATT model), I found a small freeware program (224K) on the internet that flashed my phone and allows his Cingular SIM to work in my phone (as well as my ATT original SIM) .. really neat phone! I would like to get another some day (if I find a good deal on Ebay). If you want to do the same, my suggestion is to get one built for Cingular or ATT (quad band), the TMobile version is apparantly only a tribander (missing the 850 band) .. 850 is what is used in my area of the country. Thanks, Alan

  • About software to connect your V180 (and other phones and brands): FREE software that works GREAT on my V180 and a lot of others too! Download the latest version, it already has all the plugins. Works with any old USB cable (A to mini-B 5 pin) .. even a cable I got with my flashcard reader! Go to and download the free version. Automatically found and connected to my V180, WOW! It's sure worth the price! Alan

  • i got a motorola v 180 i like its features and its design. i want to hook it up to my computer but it need a software. where can i find it for free

  • I just got my motorola v180, charged and when I turn it on it attempts to register. It comes back with "unregistered sim". What can I do? I have taken the sim card in and out several times but maybe there is something I dont know. Thanks

  • Hello. I have a usb cable, but i don` have the software .Please can anyone tell me from where can I download the software.Thank you all.Althought it is a very good phone

  • i do not actually own a v180 now. i was planning on getting one. anyway,i'm from romania and i've heard few people here to have so many problems with this phone. i have a friend who has the same problem with the display. still, most of people are happy with their phones. i guess i'll get one for myself after all.

  • I'm very happy with my V180. I've only had it a week, but I get great reception and the phone is very easy to use. I got one for myself and my husband. We've had plenty of luck with text messaging and I had no trouble adjusting the menus to my liking and that sort of thing. Some phones are far too complicated for my taste... The V180 came with lots of ringtones, graphics and a handful of wallpapers and screensavers. I like that there a lots of faceplate choices, too. The screen isn't great for playing games, but I wasn't looking for a phone to do that.

  • i bought 3 v180s about 2 months ago. rigth from the getgo one was almost unusable as it was usually not possible to hear anyone who was taking thru it. after 3 loooong pbone calls cingular replaced that one. another got much weaker signal than my previous phohe (with att tho) and frequently had static for both the phone user and the person connected to. how can a digital phone have static. it also had a baaaad echo when using a hands free unit. after 4 more phone calls (yikes!), cingular replaced that one. both replacements were v180s and both work much better. i'm still not happy with the signal strength which is less than it was with att in the same locations. but as the phone mostly works well, i guess who cares. the 3rd v180 ain't that great either, yes weak signal. but it's not bad enough to make it worth jousting with cingular...

  • I got my v180 for free when I signed up for Tmobile service. It was working find except the screen would fade once in a while. I thought maybe this happened because I never turned my phone off. Then a week ago (nearly 3 months) my calls started getting static-y and the person on the other end of the line could not hear me but only static. I didn't know if it was a reception problem or a phone problem but i called tmobile and was told by the rep to wait 1 week to see if service would get better. NO IT DIDN'T! I called the very next day because it seemed to be getting worse. The rep told me it was a good thing i called that day because if i waited 2 more days, my warranty would've ran out and i would've been stuck with the phone. i told her the rep i spoke to the previous day told me to wait a week, so if i had listened to him, i would've lost the warranty. she said they would do a handset exchange and send me a new phone. i asked if this "new" phone would be brand new or refurbished, and was told they couldn't tell. i told them i did not want the same model because i did not want the same problems in the future. she assured me that when i received the phone i would have 3 months warranty on it. so when i do get it in the mail this week, i WILL be trading it in!

  • Just switched over to the family plan and upgraded my cell phone from T62 sony to V180 Motorola (actually I wanted the other motorola special but appears cingular changes the specials from day to day) so had to settle for the v180. From the first time using it have not had reception, sound has been like underwater, it goes in and out, and places where my Sony didnt work the motorola works. Weird, at any rate not happy with this cell, and trading it in.

  • I got my V180 shortly after Christmas, when I signed up on a new contract with T-Mobile. It worked great and never gave me once ounce of trouble until about a month ago. Nothing came on gradually with this phone. All the problems occurred at once. The screen will freeze. Only the wallpaper will show. The screen will go completely black. I will not be able to make calls or recieve them. I could not get to some of the functions. When it will let you maneuver through the menu, the screen would go off center and turn a different color. After a week of non stop calling to T-Mobile, they finally agreed to ship me a replacement phone. (That's ridiculous and I pay for equipment protection!!!) I recieved my replacement phone yesterday in the mail. This phone is WORSE than the original one I had! I called T-Mobile and no lie, the rep said "Well what do you want me to do about it?! We only give you one phone." I was like "Oh hell no!" I raised cain, demanded to speak to her supervisor. I now have yet another V180 on the way. I told that supervisor too, if this one is picture perfect I will seek a new phone all together and I do not care how much hell I have to raise to get it. Also, I agree with the person that said that we should file a formal complaint with the BBB. Great idea! Thanks

  • The V180 is has good reception and not too many frills...I like phones to be basic. We are on the Family Plan. The screens on both phones died within 4 months and going on a third replacement. There are issues with battery life also. I cannot recommend this phone to anyone.

  • Gee, I am sorry to hear about all your V180 problems, I absolutely love mine! Just replaced the inside LCD yesterday (bought new replacement on Ebay for 20 bucks), but can't blame the phone, my granddaughter dropped it onto the concrete. Not the phone's fault. Always have great signal strength (I am out in the boonies too), never drops a call, battery lasts a couple of days. I have changed a couple of things: 1. Got a fancy case (with smiley faces on it) (ebay) 2. Got a new telescopic antenna (ebay) 3. Body Glove padded clamshell case (ebay) it bounces pretty good now ;) 4. Completely changed my menues, hot buttons, etc with a freebie program called P2KMENUEDITOR (right softkey is now MESSAGES instead of MMODE, first program I have found to define every key on the phone) .. from Russia, search for it, don't remember where I got it All in all, my V180 has been a workhorse for the past 6 months and I have no intention of replacing it in the near future. Thanks

  • We got four v180's when we signed up with Cingular. Since then, we've replaced three, and the fourth one is near death. The screens stop working, it can't get reception, the battery mysteriously dies, it gives massive voice feed back, and the volume fades in and out. I'VE FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, AND I RECOMMEND THAT YOU FILE ONE TOO, IF YOU HAVE COMPLAINTS.

  • This phone is not mine it belongs to my GF. She received her V180 for $30 with her contract with T-Mobile. The only time that I would ever hear her cuss was when using the V180. I insisted it was the service, I was wrong. Dropped call after dropped call (if she could even get a signal) I finally went to a T-Mobile store and they gave her a Samsung as a loaner explaining that Motorola has had antenna problems with the V180. The difference was like night and day, the Samsung worked almost flawlessly. New "improved" V180 arrived in the mail and was problematic from the first moment. Sometimes there would be a screen, sometimes not. Other times parts of the text would super impose itself over other parts, or the screen would simply appear pale at best, and no measurable improvement in signal. This only helps to bolster my opinion of Motorola`s poor cellular products from my own experiences.

  • We got two v180 phones for our family plan. Both phones are giving lot of problems within 6 months. One's display stopped working. Other's battery is bad and outside display does not work. Many a times our calls are dropped but that is provider rather than phone.

  • Just got my phone. So far, so good...? If you ever have had a motorola before, (which I have), then the manual makes sense. Had no problem understanding it. Regarding the front I.D. screen, I'm hoping, that by putting clear tape over it, I can see it, and protect it from breakage also. Love my phone. I don't have the "fufu" stuff offered with it. I wanted a phone to be just that: a phone. Mo camera, or getting on the internet, with it, or games. I bought it to be a phone, and that's what it is. A phone. Hopefully a good phone, that will be with me for a while.

  • Hello! Please someone send me the software for mp3 ringtones. How can I have mp3 ringtones on this phone??? Does anyone know that? The same question about wallpapers, pictures....

  • i have a usb cable from sony digital cam, but i can't find drivers for my mobile . please help.... otherwise very good phone.

  • I've had the V180 for 45 days. I don't recall ever dropping it and actually have rarely used it because Cingular has poor reception just outside Berkeley, CA. This week the embedded mic apparently died. I can hear the person on the other end fine but they hear nothing from me. Voice calling no longer works and leaving a message for myself turns into a hangup. Though the manager where I bought it agrees the phone is bad, he won't replace it since its over 30 days old. I have to MAIL it to Cingular and wait who knows how long for a replacement. I'm no longer happy with the phone and am very disappointed with the service.

  • yes

  • i have the connections from my phone to my computer which i got from my sony digital camera.. i was wondering if i can transfer MP3s into my phone.. is it possible?

  • I've had this phone for about eight months or so. I got it as soon as it came to T-mobile. A nice looking phone, but cheap. It's all plastic, but that is not the problem. In the short time I've had it, I had to change two handsets and the third one, which I'm still using, is on its way out. I think this model is not very successful as I have met many people who share the same problems. It seems the software is faulty and after a short period of time it starts playng up. I don't recommend going cheap!

  • Yeah if your dropping lotsa calls it's most likely b/c that one is a lemon. i've had this thing work in subways, in the boundry waters of northern minnesota and in the desert of Nevada. You've gotta be careful ripping so strongly on a phone with such high reviews... might look a bad ya know... return it and get a new one. peace

  • I'm heading to Europe in June and want to use my V180 there too. I've read I should buy a SIM card when I get there but I want to make sure I'm doing the best thing. How do I know if I'm locked or unlocked? Drew

  • I need help, my screen went blank. Can someone email me w what to do! thanks.

  • this phone is the worst, that I ever had. There is never a signal...I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

  • Does anyone have any idea of how to make this work on all four bands. I was told that this is a quad band phone but only the service providers lock it up. Is there a software flash or something that could be done to make the phone work on all bands... I am leaving for europe, and would like to have the quad band working by then. Please post a reply or send email to amba_at_mech_dot_utah_dot_edu

  • With the Voice Dialing set up, each time an address book entry is highlighted, it plays the Voice Entry for that person. How do you prevent that from happening?

  • Voice Dialing IS on there.. it is just a pain in the ass to set up Here is how to access it. Enter a telephone number or grab one already in your phone book It must be saved to the PHONE and not to the SIM. Highlight the phone number and press the MENU key (the one with the 4 lines on it) Then select EDIT Scroll down to the VOICE NAME then select that Record the name You are set Here is how to voice dial (the standard way) From the main screen, press the MENU key. Select DIALING SERVICES Voice dial will be in there Ok, that was a lot of steps to voice dial each time, so this is what I did.. I was tired of having to press like 5 keys to voice dial so I changed it so it only takes ONE key Press the MENU button Go down and right to SETTINGS Select PERSONALIZE Select HOME SCREEN Select HOME KEYS Then what I did was I made my RIGHT key the Voice Dial key, but you can make any direction you want be that.. Now from the main screen, I just push the RIGHT button and say the name works great.. hope this helped you out

  • Use WinRAR to decompress it.

  • how do i download the .rar games to my phone???

  • THANK YOU so much for helping me get my numbers off of my sim card. It worked perfectly. You really saved me. Thanks again. Arron

  • Oh, by the way, thanks to a Chris, here is a quick way to copy all of the entries to the SIM. 1. Press the menu key [once] 2. Press the down arrow [once] 3. Press the right soft key [once] 4. Press the menu key [once] 5. Press the up arrow [five times] 6. Press the right soft key [once] 7. Press the down arrow [once] 8. Press the right soft key [once] 9. Press the down arrow [once] 10. Press the right soft key [once] Then all your entries should be copied into your SIM. Hope that helps! P.S. I did not complete the last step, since I did not want to transfer all of the entries back over to the phone and add in all of the additional information, so if anyone tries this and there is any sort of confirmation menu, please post. Thank you!

  • This is gonna be a little difficult because I have no idea how many entries you have stored, but here is how to transfer your entries from your Phone memory to the SIM card. 1. Press the menu key [once](top middle button) 2. Press the down arrow [once] 3. Press the right soft key [once] 4. Press the menu key [once] 5. Press the down arrow [once] 6. Press the right soft key [once] 7. Press the down arrow [4 times] 8. Press the right arrow [once] 9. Press the left soft key [once] (You have transferred your first address book entry into your SIM card) 11. Repeat method starting with step 5 [for however many entries you have left. Hope that helps!

  • Help! My screen went blank. I need to save all my numbers to the sim card so I can get them to my new phone. I need someone to go through it step by step because I will have to do it without seeing anything. Someone please help. Arron

  • this is the worst cell phone that I ever seen 99%failed in first week

  • i got the phone for $11.06 XD hehehehe

  • Well, I just both this one and it is perfect! I follow the comments of MEex and I installed the Phone tools from the IsoHunt.com and everything it is working perfect... I recommend you to install the modem driver from the same package that you downloaded in isohunt.com in the folder "inf" I would like to say that Motorola should allow people to download this for free, afterall, those phones are fckng expensive already. We should not pay more for the software. Thanks everyone!

  • i think its a good phone, with small display, but its beautifull to... i have so mutch problem to syncronize with mobile PhoneTools... beacuse i cant find a compatible USBmodem driver.

  • I did what this guy said and everythign workid fine..my phone is locked and i used a USB from my dad digi cam: i found mobile phone tools via isohunt.com...like everyone else, it still wouldnt work cuz i needed the driver. to fix the problem, i found the driver in the mobile phone tools directory. just go to control panel>system>device manager then choose the v180. choose update driver and point to the specific location of mobile phone tools directory...it should work if you have winxp for sure, not certain about other OS's. GOod luck, hope it works for other..b

  • two address book related issues. i keep about 100 #s in my phone. 1) how do it grab #s from outlook or from my old phone? for instance, can address book entries be downloaded via the usb? or how about sim #s (a poor 2nd choice). 2) i tried copying address book entries to the sim for backup. but now they both show in the address book. so i've got two of each entry, yikes. is there some setting to view only address book entries??

  • i just got one i love it so much evybody shoed have one

  • I like mine, but I'd prefer a stronger feeling phone. Some of the newer phones are made of lightweight composite metals and very strong plastic, but the v180 seems like it can get cracks in it if you're not careful with it. I'd be afraid to drop mine onto a hard floor...

  • hey would you guys recomend this phone for me. im a 15 yr old guy and im lookin for a plain and simple phone. i dont care too much for a camera phone. i like the look of this phone but i was wondering about the quality.is it reliable?i would appreciate it if you emailed me thnx

  • Words cannot explain how much you have just helped me with that entire little guide, Jim. =] Thanks, I really appreciate it!

  • Can anyone tell me how to remove/replace the color cover on a v180?

  • I have the unlimited internet browsing on the phone with Cingular, I was going to get SnapDial so I could connect my PC to the internet, which uses the phones browsing access, but then I learned that SnapDial doesn't support Cingular... Does anyone know how I can connecet through the internet with this phone and cingular? I remember reading something about how verizon phones can connect to thier low band or high band for internet access but i didn't see it for cingular... help please

  • Actually, voice dialing is included. Check page 64 of the user manuel for brief instructions on how to use it, but here is how to set it up. While entering or editing an address book entry, first make sure you have selected the option to save the entry onto Phone, and not SIM. Then, one line below the "Store To:" option, there is "Voice Name:". If that line is highlighted, there will be a button to "RECORD". Click that to record the voice name for that entry. Again, check page 64 in the v180 manual for instructions on how to use it. [email protected]

  • Voice Dial is one of the things I was sold on, and never recieved. It's not an option on the v180, though they say it is.

  • Just got this phone to replace a Nokia 6010 which had horrible sound quality, but was one of the easiest to use phones. This V180 phone seems relativly easy to use, but the manual really sucks. Does anyone know how to use the voice dial feature? The manual sort of addresses it but it looks like I could read a book in less time it takes to make a voice dial. Again, the manual is the worst. Please Help.

  • I figured I should do this once more, for those too lazy to browse the forum to find it. Here is the list of things I did to get my v180 to sync with my computer, which resulted in many a great mp3 tone and midi files that are awesome: If you have tried before, make sure your phone is plugged in, open up the device manager in My Computer and remove either the Motorola v180, or in some cases "Unknown Device". Make sure this device is the phone. Unplug your V180. Download the p2k (not p2k98, as it doesn't even work on windows 98) driver from unzip it to a folder, like "moto driver" on the desktop. You will have to create this folder (obviously). Plug in your phone. Xp should detect it, and start a search for drivers. When none can be found, direct it to the "moto driver" folder. Keep in mind that the phone is considered a modem. Download MobilePhoneTools 3.11 from here: ile.PhoneTools.v3.11h.Final.Retail.rar It is a 28MB file, and will take a long time on a dial up modem. I used a flash drive and used my school's network. If you do not have WinRar, you must get it. Winzip does not read it. The installer will be in the archive in the "Setup" folder. Once it has been installed, run it. It will complain about not having access to some keys, but they are not vital for operation. It will try to access the modem for the first time. I think all you have to do is un-plug then re-plug your v180 in. once MPT has detected the v180, it will show an image of the v180 on your screen. then open the multimedia studio and have fun! note: any mp3 tones must be at 40kbps or more, or the v180 will render them corrupt. Here is a list of Mitch's readily available ringtones, their times and their star ratings out of five. If you would like any of them, have any comments or would like to suggest a tone to be made, e-mail Mitch at either [email protected] or at [email protected]. Peace out, y'all. • I've had my V180 for almost 6 months, recently after charging my phone all night I went to get my phone and noticed that the external screen had looked as if it was burned or something inside. This phone has never been dropped or been misused Other than that the phone is ok

  • Overall it's great. Nice screen, good features, i like the color, but what i don't like is that the screen gets faulty as you use it. whenever i open it now, its sometimes frozen, color is inverted, or doesn't show anything, but i can still do stuff. seems like it's happening to a lot of people. Alex.

  • I bought this phone last week and love it. Thanks Mitch for the info on the drivers and software. I download them and had it up in running in minutes. I was also able to connect to my ISP using the phone as the modem on my laptop. Got to love technology. Thought the keypad light was messed up until I realized it had a light sensor that turns the lights off in bright light. Duh! All in all I think it's a great phone for the price.

  • I dont understand all the problems I ve read about here I ve had my V180 going on 7mos without a problem I love it The only small gripe I have is that during bright day light tends to bleach out the image other than that its a very good phone All I can say about those complaining about service problems ie: call drops etc. is change your provider I went to T-Mobile and have had the best experience thus far Ron from Sunny FL.

  • I have had this phone since October of 2004. It looks nice and it does have some nice features built into it. However, roughly around two months ago the screen went blank and every time I want to bring it back I need to restart the phone. I have complained about this problem to my service provider but they take me through a routine reset of my phone each time I call, which does solve the problem temporarily. Looking at the postings on this site I noticed that quite a few other users of this phone have experienced the same problem. It seems to me that this is a design flaw and until Motorola fixes this problem I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone.

  • WORST PHONE EVER!!!! I am on my fourth in 2 months. It is always breaking, dropping calls in full signal areas, randomly shutting off, and failing to dial calls.

  • I love how this phone has a light sensor under the left "tab" @ the very bottom under the "*" button. when you hold you finger over it, the key lights come on, if you shine light on it, and push a button, the lights go off. This is great for saving battery life.

  • Phones great, besst one I've had to date.

  • The phone works fine. I've never had a problem. I assume the bad signal is your Service Providers problem. Change it up. I'm still here to yield questions, and distribute ringtones. Thanks a bunch to all of you who helped me, and who i helped. Peace out, y'all. I'll post a list in a week of what mp3 tones i have available. I'm still working on a few of them.

  • has anyone found the driver for motorola V180.please if u had tell me where u got u from.excuse my english :D...tx

  • I`ve had my Motorola V180 for ten days and the screen just went black, lucky for me-my service provider offers a year garauntee. Will this problem continue?

  • My screen has gone blank, i can still receive and make calls, but via the screen i can not see who i am dialing, or who is calling me. And now i have phone numbers on the phone that i need to retrieve. I have had this phone for less than a year, up until now, i was satisfied...... whats the next version!!

  • Good phone great reception, but the screen has a little work to be done on it. But does make up fpr it by letting you download screen savers and MP3 ringtones. Any questions about phone e-mail me.

  • Very nice little phone, I liked it very much and very simple so as the price. If you are looking for a simple phone just for everyday use this is the right one from Motorola. So far so good - never have a problem on charging yet.

  • I noticed that my new V180 has a FireWire connection on it. The agent that sold me the phone said it could be used to download my e-mail to the phone. Can that option also be used for downloading my own mP3 music tones from my computer?

  • Linda, Regarding your lighting problem, that is not supposed to happen. With the signal failed, this phone's signal does tend to be unstable, and being around forests won't help. MissT, While you are saving an entry into your address book, there will be an option for you to choose whether to save onto your SIM card or phone. The SIM card will only allow you to save basic entry info, such as name and number, whereas saving it to the phone will allow you to do personalized rings (different rings assigned to different people), entry grouping (entries are assigned to groups, such as family, friends, etc.), and phone type (displays an icon in the address book, showing that it's either a home phone, mobile, work, or other) hope that helps! • Does anyone else have trouble getting the phone to set downloaded ringtones as the ringtone? I downloaded several ringtones and set them as ringer ID's and as my ringtone and whenever the phone rings, it still rings a standard ring. Also, I am having a heck of a time trying to get this USB cable thing to work. I downloaded all the drivers and updates and the device (motoroal usb modem) is working properly, i still cant get it to transfer files onto my phone. Any ideas? Thanks! [email protected]

  • the light or the # pad-does this supposed to stay on when opened and turn off as soon as you press a button to dial? also, I keep getting "signal failed" a lot or dropped calls-whats the problem? I have a family plan and call m2m.

  • Hello i want to know where could i find backup software for my v180.pls help, 10x in advance.

  • I have just bought my v180 and am quite happy with it. Great sound and clear display. But the phone book displays the numbers saved to the sim card and the phone. Does someone know how I can get one or the other. Thanks for your help.

  • Hy guys... I HAVE A BIG BIG PROBLEM... PLS HELP ME: I've deleted some mids from my phone(using P2K) and now when i want to edit a category nothing happens. So when someone is calling me it woun't ring. SO CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

  • I have been trying to get connected my Motorola v180 and download ringtones and other stuff for almost 2 months with no results. I did everything you have writen on gsm arena and motorola v 180 cant be connected to the modemit shows initializing all the time. I have windows xp. Could be anything wrong with it??? What else can I do to get my telephone connected???

  • Apparently there is a product advisory out since at least early February on the V180 concerning the front cover LED which cracks and bleeds, even if the phone is not dropped, kicked, etc.

  • I purchased this phone about 2 weeks ago and the entire time i've had it i've recieved LESS than 10% of the incomming calls. I've had a Fido agent go over everything and make sure it wasnt a setting...i've calls costumer service..i've tried everything. 90% of the time phone just doesn't ring. I've heard some people complain about the phone rings not being loud enough...but that is not an issue with me, when the phone rings I hear it. I've had the phone sitting on my table, 6 inches away from me, and it just doesn't ring. It on occasion makes a single "beep" to notify me of several missed calls...atleast 2-3 have to have been missed before it beeps. I am terribly unsatisfied with this phone...Most/all of the features of this phone are great...but what good is a phone that I can't be reached on?

  • i have this phone and after about 3 months my screen went out. all i see is black. i was wondering if the company fixes this problem for you as i see many people have experienced the same problem. its not that we mishandle the phone, i believe its something wrong with the phone. if anyone knows anything about this or how to fix it please email me at [email protected] thanks, hope to hear from someone soon

  • great phone.has alot of features.the price is reasonable also.

  • I have several problems with my motorola v180 that i would love to have answers to: First of all, my phone don't display the date in the front screen with the time..Second of all, my phone don't have in the menu column under recent calls section an missed call display(THE WORD MISSED CALLS) Third of all, it doesn't show how many times (all the times)the same number tried to call you, only show the last time the person tried to call you(even if they called more than once)Fourth of all, with the voice mail package to these kind of phones the operator does'nt give you the option to leave an numeric page instead of just the persons voice message!!! Please email me back with answers to these questions of how to do these things with my motorola v180 at [email protected]. Thank you!!!

  • does anyone know how to add games to the v180

  • Hi all.. I have this phone, and HIGHLY reccomend it... I have had NO problems with it.. But then again I wasn;t throwing it agains a wall to crack it, not dropping it every day or getting it wet.. I work in a Deli and keep it in my pocket all day.. It is great... the screen is nice an bright, and has had NO PROBLEMS... I have mobile phone tools and after I properly installed the drivers for the phone on my computer, it works GREAT.. I even made custom mp3 ringtones and such. My reception is GREAT compaired to other phones in the carrier that I use. People who say their phone gets bad reception.. I think that it is their Cellular/PCS providor. Anyways... This phone is great... and, yes, I DID drop it once or twice.. Still no problems.. I just don't throw it across the room. ;)

  • Hello. I am from Romania and i have a question. It is true that phone has very big problems with his display?I understand after a period the display do not turn on. (sorry for my english) :) .10x

  • OK, I have the V180 also and I must agree with those who say the phone is CRAP! My old Nokia 3360 was a far better phone. The external LCD screen went to crap after about a month, (Not user abuse) and I swear I can't get a signal unless I am either outside or near a door or window. My old phone would get a signal in a parking garage. Sometimes it doesn't pay to upgrade.

  • no problem, everyone. I do make my own mp3 ringtones ready to download to your phone care of MPT. Anyone interested should e-mail me. I can always get another song to make into a ringtone, but they take me about a week to mix. I will continue to answer driver and software questions about the v180, even though I have upgraded to the v220. The following is a list of ringtones I have readily available, and their quailty ranking. Aerosmith - Dream On ***** Schooly D - The ATHF theme (full) **** The Cure - Lovesong ****1/2 System of a Down - Legend of Zelda (full) ***** Cake - Going the distance ***1/2 Queen - Another 1 bites the dust ***** Five Iron Frenzy - Every New day *** ZZ Top - Legs ** Blur - Song 2 **** Pantera - Walk ** Edwin Starr - War (what is it good for?) ***** Email me @ [email protected] with requests or suggestions. I don't charge, yet...

  • If you get the problem where you open Mobile PhoneTools, but it can not connect, and says "Initializing...", but does not do anything, try doing this: First, make sure your V180 is unplugged from your computer. 1. Go START--SETTINGS--CONTROL PANEL--ADD/REMOVE HARDWARE 2. Then press NEXT, and the fill in the circle that says UNINSTALL/UNPLUG A DEVICE, and press NEXT 3. Then, click on the UNINSTALL A DEVICE circle, and press NEXT 4. Check the box thats says SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES. 5. The devices are listed by category of the type of connection, so go down, near the bottom, to the item(s)with a yellow telephone symbol. 6. Find "Motorola USB Modem", highlight it, and then click next, and follow the precedures. 7. Then repeat steps 5&6 if there are multiple Motorola Modems. [Motorola USB Modem #2] 8. Then plug in your motorola phone, and let Windows install it again. Now try, it should work. Also, when I installed the Final Retail version of Mobile PhoneTools v3.11, the MMS (Multimedia Studio) had trouble installing. I tried a few more times, and it still could not run. In order to get it to work, you need to first download and install the v1.23c at , and then get the 2.16_US - update, and install that. Once it is updated, (you might need to restart your computer) then go to MENU [top middle button on the virtual phone]--SETUP--LIVE UPDATE. Follow the precedures, make sure all the newer versions are checked when you get to that point, and install them. It'll take a few minutes, and then you will have you restart. Once your computer is restarted, it will install one of the versions, and then ask you to restart again. It will do this a few times, so you will have to restart many times, but when it is finished, everything should work fine!

  • This phone is awesome..... If you use it right then you should have no problem with it and even in a warehouse environment it is holding up But you have to remember NOT TO ABUSE IT. So wake up any phone will break If a child plays with it haha

  • Felipe, I'm from Romania too...I got my phone at the special Christmas offer from Germanos and I've been pleased so far...The site you need is motocoder.com.Try it...it will help you.If you can't get through, try mobiledit..it's not that great, but it transfers pictures and ringtones...try to get version 1.92, the updated versions caused me some trouble.Good luck!

  • Multimedia Studio not working. I recently got a V180, downloaded mPT3.11h and USB drivers. Install and detect worked but I couldnt get to the Multimedia Studio to work. I did get an error that gdiplus.dll could not be found. Search your computer for this file, if you dont find it: Use your favorite search engine for gdiplus.dll Download it, (unzip if necessary), and copy to windows\system directory, (for W2K this is WINNT\SYSTEM, something similar for other versions of Windows). Try Multimedia Studio again, worked for me. Hope this helps.

  • the phone is sucks,,,,,,,,battery life is short, and screen always turns to blank

  • Use the Mobile Phone Tools. Follow the steps: 1) Download and install 2) Download and install the update 3) Run the software and on the menu -> setup run LIVE UPDATE. This will update to 3.19 4) Have fun!

  • Hi guys... I have Motorola V180 and I'm from Romania and I don't find a soft for this phone to download pictures and ...If somebody can tell me where I can find this soft...thanks..

  • Hey guys, I got a V185 (i think that is a improved version of v180) and all that i have to say is that it worth the money. But unfortunately im having problems with the USB connection. I have found some posts about this problem, but nothing about a definitive solution. I will try to explain whats happening to me, step by step since i got the phone: 1) Bought the phone 2) Bought the USB -> MINI_USB cable on local store 3) Did a fresh install of WinXP SP2 on my PC, and DO NOT installed MPT or any usb mobile phone device. So, its really fresh. 4) Plug the phone on the USB port. Windows detects a new USB device, called "Motorola V185" and asked for drivers. I just canceled the driver installation. 5) Unplug the phone and plug it again. Now, windows detects a "unknown device" and do not ask for drivers. A message pop up saying that the device is malfunctioned. 6) If i try to connect to another USB port, it works only for the 1st time, and after i only got "unknown device" and malfunctioned bla bla bla.... Looking for this behaviour, im very sure that there is a problem with WINDOWS. Its like it record some "histoty" of USB devices connected, so after the 1st time that the device is connected, the system is not FRESH anymore. I know that a lot of people have this problem, but i cant find a solution! PS: note that Mobile Phone Tools is NOT INSTALLED, so im only talking about connecting the phone on the USB port and windows recognizing it propely!!

  • I downloaded songs for my phone but i dont know how to make them play all the way through? can someone help?

  • i do like my phone, but the problem i had was the internal lcd .......>_< i have heard that this is because of the flex version the ph has, anyone heard about that??? .... XP anyone has been able to receive a picture sent from an email account!?

  • I happen to like this phone. Ive had it more than three months and nothing is wrong with my screen or my internet and I can work all the settings on my phone. personally I think a lto of it is operator error and not taking care of your phone like you should.

  • This would be a great phone if it were not made of cheese. The exterior LCD cracked within 2 weeks of getting the phone. T-Mobile insisted that it was physical damage (no kidding!) and sent me to Moto. Enough said.

  • maybe i am just not so smar, but as many others are asking, no that i have the phone tools, what do i need to do to make it work? All I really want to do is put some music and pictures on the phone. has anyone figured this out?

  • hey anyone know where i can get games for the motorola v180 on my computer then transfer it by usb cable?

  • I bought a v180 about a month ago, then this past saturday my screen was half scrambled, so i decided to turn it off and turn it back on to see if that would help it. It didnt, i now have a cell phone wit a non working screen. I can recieve calls and make calls from it but i have no way of seeing the number i dial. The external caller id works so i can see whos calling tho...T-mobile wont replace the phone even though its obviously a manufactures defect. In my oppinon dont by the phone, at least spend the extra money and buy a v300.

  • I have the motorola v180. Phone sucks. I purchased two in october 04, one for my sis and one for me, her phone went out in two months. Her screen was blank, and she could not hear the other party during her calls. Just got a replacement, now it is my phone that has gone out. Screen goes blank or looks scrambled.

  • i just purchase the data cable but i don't know how to transfer ringtones, games, etc from my computer to my phone i need help

  • I just ordered the V180. I'm an adult and am employed, so I'm not interested in downloading games and don't like the goofy ringtones that most phones have. Does anyone know if you can download ringtones that are acceptable for a workplace setting? Like just a buzzer noise or even a ringing noise like landline phones have or had.

  • Mitch your posting was right on the money. Thanks for sharing the info.

  • lots of defective keypad light that stops to work. whole batch was defective. becareful!

  • Thanks alot Mitch you really helped me out!!!!!!!

  • Here is the list of things I did to get my v180 to sync with my computer, which resulted in many a great mp3 tone and midi files that are awesome: If you have tried before, make sure your phone is plugged in, open up the device manager in My Computer and remove either the Motorola v180, or in some cases "Unknown Device".

  • I'm in IT and it took me about 20 hours to get this thing connected on my XP SP1 machine. Here is what worked for me in the end: 1. Install MPT v1.23c and accept any reboots 2. Install MPT v2.16 update and accept any reboots 3. Start MPT and run the internet update and accept any reboots. 4. Shut down MPT 5. Connect phone through USB 6. Ensure it shows in Device Manager as Motorola USB modem using driver v 2.0.0.4 dated 4/5/2004. 7. Start MPT Like I said, I tried everything and I think this is all I did to get it to work. It is on my machine on Com 4.

  • Marine22: I was having the same problem. What you probably have to do is, when you click the menu button on the picture of the phone (which DOESN'T resemble your phone, I assume). From the menu choose "setup" and then "add new phone" and then add the "usb modem". Then it'll give you a list of phones. The V180 is under "gsm". When you pick it the phone displayed should be a V180 and all the picture and music transferring should work.

  • I downloaded the MPT 3.11, and I followed your advice, and my phone connected. My problem is that when I go to the Multimedia studio, I can't get ANYTHING to transfer, pictures or ringtones, and can't find a place to transfer java games. I downloaded small little 30 sec MP3 clips to transfer, but everytime I press the transfer button it says "unnsupported format-no conversion possible", and when I try the pix it does nothing at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I am a total noob to the cell phone downloading and interfacing so instead of asking a bunch a questions is there a good site to go to that has explainations for tools to download and how to use them. I am looking good general knowledge about how to start using all the tools, games, etc on my phone. Thanks

  • I just transferred my number from AT&T to Cingular and got this phone for free. I currently have the T721 and it has problems with the screen cutting out and short battery life. I don't know what all the bitching is about, it's a free phone. If you don't like it you have 30 days to send it back and get a different model.

  • I have a motorola v60i and now I have a motorola v180, i have to transfer the phone book from the v60i to the v180 what program will read one into the other, the phones have different usb cables. I have both cables for each phone......my old program will not transfer into the v180, need help.

  • I have a habit of switching cell phones after a few months. This one i keeping. It's very impressive for the price. Hi tec yet simple enough for a child to work with. Very nice

  • I had to get a new phone when renewing my cell plan and this was the least expensive, decent looking phone I could find ($40 extra.) I had a non-flip Motorola 120t before. I'm very impressed with this phone for the price. Voice is nearly land-line quality. The color screen is very nice, crisp and vibrant. The phone book has lots of room for phone numbers (although the SIM card chops at 24 characters which isn't nearly long enough.) The battery seems to hold a charge for more than a few days. Reception was awesome compared to my old phone, which was good in itself. My former dead zones are no longer dead. Java-based games are cool, I just don't know where to find more. Things I don't like about the phone are minor. The vibrate mode is very quiet and I can't feel it ringing. The SIM phonebook chops names but the internal phonebook accepts slightly longer names. The instructions are woeful. The voice dialing capability is mired because you have to go through 3 menu options to dial by voice. My old phone had a button on the side just for that, so there's no fumbling while you're driving. All in all, a great phone. I'd buy another without question.

  • TO ANYBODY WITH DRIVER-PROBLEMS: I and two of my friends all bought V180s a couple of weeks ago. Here is some info that might be useful. Checklist 1. Get Mobile Phone Tools Version 3.x (If you can't find it, get Version 2.x and use the LiveUpdate function.) 2. Install it. Nothing else. (At least we didn't have to!) Plug in v180. 3. When clciking MPT-icon, if the software doesn't start, wait. WAIT. wait. Wait some more. Wait. 3. If it is searching for a modem and doesn't find one, have the phone checked. It really helped having several phones present as a way to find the problem. ------------------------------------- Now I can see a lot of different solutions here for the driver problem, but the above way worked for all of us, everntually. (One phone had to be returned (modem-problems) and we also had some problems installing on one PC. But we got em all working. Concerning the quality of the phone, I just love it. I've got 6 mp3's (30sec) on it as ringtones, the iTap has REALLY been improved, the battery is living up to expectations 100% (12 hour first charge + full dicharge and recharge after that gives 6 days + 2hours talk.) and I can't find a single problem with it except for the varying quality between the individual phones... I was lucky with my v180, but I understand how it would feel buying a non-working one. Still, well worth the money.

  • I'm new on this site and I'm only in town for 2 weeks, then I'm getting shipped out. A friend told me to post my question on here if I wanted an answer. I just bought a v180, and am trying to find out what I need to download and how to use it so I can transfer ringtones, games, wallpapers, etc and any advice where to find games. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated before I head back out. I'll be checking back everyday, and thank you.

  • I have the v180 and discovered that my usb cable for my dell dj first gen worked for my v180. I am still hunting the drivers so the cable will work. So far everything I have found does not work and phone tools was to glitchy. Like the phone and will like more when I can add tunes and pics.

  • I have downloaded everything. Installed everything. When I run MPT it says Mobile not found. Everything is connected and installed as told. I also did the redirection of the driver to MPT/etc... DOES THE PHONE HAVE TO BE UNLOCKED FOR it to work with MPT !! ??????

  • ok i downloaded the p2k driver from bongo and i unzipped it but now wat do i do?

  • Both xp and win98 versions of the p2k driver unzip and work fine. Download Links: Phone Tools 3.11h (Requires WinRar) P2K USB Drivers---drivers for the v180

  • Damn, I miss my LG. Never realized how much I liked it til I got this thing. Less volume control, not as intuitive, smaller display. And now I need rivers that no one can find. Motorola charges for them?? I won't forget that in two years... I switched from verizon cuz my gal has AT&T. The things we do for love.

  • Check these forums, plenty of detailed instructions there.

  • Vlad, How do you work the midway program ? I am trying to d/l .jad files (games) to the phone but can't connect. I have MPT and it works ?? Suggestions ?

  • good phone

  • You're welcome gmoney, as for MPT bugs, the only thing i saw is that when you install, it complains about not having access to some key, but you can safely ignore it, it works like a charm, sees my phone, and i can upload just about everything on it.

  • The v180 is a good phone with lot's of capabilities. The mobile phone tools program allows for easy access with the right USB cable. I found that the usb cable from my lexar universal memory card reader fits the v180 and if I can get my hands on official software it will work better. The rar download available coutesy of VLAD works but has a few bugs. It'll hold me over. Thanks VLAD.

  • Okay. All of you keep asking the same thing. Obviously, no one knows. This is a new phone so please give it time. Somehow, one day, there will be easy axcess to USB drivers for the V180. As for my thoughts and opinions for this phone is that I really enjoy the phone. It has been the best cellphone I ever purchased.

  • Hello Is it possible to buy more memory to this phone so I can put more MP3tones on it? Can I record sounds with this mobile. I like this phone very much, its cheap but good!!

  • Never used the MPT to phone from it, but i'm sure that it's only a software interface for the phone, meaning that when you phoned with the MPT, you were actually using your phone, i may be wrong, but i really doubt it on this case.

  • Hey. Thank you very much Vlad!! It worked very well. But it will'nt cost anything, will it??? I mean that the mobile calls somewhere whith the program or something. Excuse me for my language but i'm from Finland!!

  • All that you need, drivers, software, games, wallpapers. You need to get MPT, Midway, and the PST drivers at least. Best of luck.

  • hy, can anyone please help me? i can't find drivers and softwares for motorola V180. if someone could send me !! thanks

  • Hey. I have just bought a Morotola v180 and I wonder, is it possible to get a driver so I can put new MP3 tones to my mobile? I have a USB cable but no software.

  • I really need some help, what is a driver and why does everyone need to get it? I just purchased my phone and I'm waiting for it in the mail, but I'm getting so nervous with all of these bad reviews. Does anyone have a tip for me when I get my new phone? Thank you.

  • Very good phone, it has 3 months and never have problems. Many options

  • Where do I find usb drivers for motorola V180. Anyone knows it???

  • This phone is junk. Had it for a week and the exterior LCD spontaneously cracked. One minute it was fine, the next it was cracked. Not covered under warrenty because apparently we damamged it somehow (even though it was literally fine one minute and cracked the next without anything happening to it other than putting it in a pocket and taking it out). Junk. 0 stars.

  • Soooo cheaply made that I don't think it'll last one year.... stripped out version of the V300, a low end model, but still has less problem than the V300, when you compare it when the V300 first came out........

  • i found mobile phone tools via isohunt.com...like everyone else, it still wouldnt work cuz i needed the driver. to fix the problem, i found the driver in the mobile phone tools directory. just go to control panel>system>device manager then choose the v180. choose update driver and point to the specific location of mobile phone tools directory...it should work if you have winxp for sure, not certain about other OS's.

  • Motorola V180 is the best. Very elegant cellphone

  • i need to know witch is the propiate batery model for the mot c236 and c115,and if it is compatible with any of other motorola models thanx

  • Found motorola v180 usb driver BVRP mobile phone tools on bearshare

  • Just replaced my V66 with V180 and my line has dropped at least 20 times in three days. I even had tmobile call me back and it dropped another four times... I am making the same calls from the same zones as I did with the V66 and never had problems like this. Any ideas??

  • Had the phone for a couple of months now and only recently decied to tinker with ownloding new ringtones and games. The phone has preformed quite well till now. I have stumbled apon the same problem that all of you seem to have. There is a lack fo USB driver download sources. I already have a usb cable for it. will I need anything more than just the Drivers to download things?

  • Some of you people scare me! Like this one here, "when it comming out in the uk? 4Q that like in few months time, there no point, it going to be out of date by then", What the hell did he say? , and how many times can someone ask for the usb drivers for the same thing on one page. The phones ok, it'll do until next years upgrade!

  • I am looking for v180 usb data software driver that would work with Win98 Toshiba laptop. If have it or know where to direct me, please email it to me. I would appreciate very much.

  • SIT! There's no field strenght any time, any place!

  • ok, mp3s must be at least 64k bitrate. nice phone, just wish motorola would stick with one type of adapter. my charger from my t720 doesn't fit so i have to buy all new accessories. sheesh

  • i tried to download an mp3 (i have web access on my phone) and the v180 said it did not recognize the format, it d/l'ed a midi file just fine. what format do i need to save my mp3s in so the phone will recognize it?

  • Having my customers that I support indicating that the chargers do not work internationally to charge the units unlike most Triband phone chargers from Motorols.

  • Yeesh! Any luck finding the driver? I could use it.

  • Pleeease i want the drivers too! and some customisations if you have any! Thanks!

  • I've been able to connect my phone to my comp using the usb cable that came with my Sony Cybershot camera. Pretty sure Motorola charges $29.99 USD for the drivers called Motorola Mobile Phone Tools. The links on motclub.com seem to be down. If anyone can send it to me I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • does anyone know if this phone has voice record feature? it's a feature that i can record a short voice memo? also is there notes (similar to outlook's notes) and if so, can mobile phone tools sync notes? thanks in advance!

  • well, i've searched the net for hours to download motorola mpt. finally i found it on kazaa. but those u who cant find it i could suggest also dc++, or other file sharing networks. That spanish site mentioned probably removed the zip file.

  • Is their a way I can download full mp3 ringtones instead of just 20 seconds. All I want is one long ringtone thats more then 20 seconds is their anyway!!

  • I guess I'm in the same deadlock. I'm struggling finding the USB driver for this phone. Any help will be thanked.

  • Anybody try Mobile PhoneTools version 2.0 with the V180? It is compatable according to this site: I remain skeptical. Any help?

  • Agreed, the USB driver situation with the V180 blows. I made the mistake of buying a USB cable + driver disc on eBay from NetXsolutions in Salt Lake City (find it with an Ebay search on "Motorola C650 V220 V180 USB Data Cable +Driver CD") I installed the driver and it does exactly nothing. On the good side, NetXsolutions agreed provide a refund. But now I have to take the time to ship it and deal with the hassle of a refund... how do you even do that w/ Paypal...? Anyway, you've been warned.

  • The USB site mentioned actually opens what looks like a soft port site in spanish. Dirvers appear to be vaporware.

  • great phone for its price... free with a new plan free with an existing plan where the contract is up .. what more can you ask for ? tri band speaker phone ! great

  • it's a good phone ,but i can't find a driver for it. i don't understand wath is everybodies problem with this phone, if you don't like it just shut up and mind your owm bisness. it's a good designed phone for people who know a good thing when they see it.

  • Very nice phone compared to the price. It could have more memory. But the screen is clear, and the sound quality is impressive. The menu layout is normal (i heard that other moto's were lacking good design) - and u can reaarange the items. It found the drivers for xp here (http://www.motclub.com/html/programs.htm) And it works fine as a modem also. Its a bit tricky to configure it so that u could be able to upload java games to the phone (u need that PST). Altogether is a nice phone, i really like it. (mp3 ringtones rock :)

  • another piece of jund from motorola. like the v300 the screen blanking problem exist. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone

  • What's up with offering a phone with great features (which you pay over $100 for) and then making you pay an extra $30 to use them?!!! It doesn't say THAT on the box! I am also looking for a usb driver. All I want to do is add some pics and maybe some custome MP3 ringtones. I don't need any of the other "tools." I can't believe they don't give you the driver!! Great phone otherwise.

  • I can't find USB Drivers ... can anybody help me

  • I received this phone last week from Tmoble. I was very impressed with the specs so I ordered it. I am NOT impressed. The battery life is not what was advertsed. The screen is small and the UI is pure Motorola crap. This phone gets a 3 out of 10

  • you can get the usb from bestbuy and the drivers from motorola .com
