My mum purchased this as quick temporary phone as my Sony Errison needed to be sent back for repairs. I miss my Sony. This phone is only good for calls and messages. If U like music then U can forget it as the USB cable does not work. Cries for operating systems XP and Vista WTF! How about the rest..... Motorola however did U get approval to sell such junk. And also I can listen music , and radio 3.5-4 hrs. fully charged battery can resist.The soft is not too good. Is disable to make a good function a some featuring device.the usb connectionfor the pc not working even after a 2 update cure up to the present .The picture is satisfied against the price. It is an cheap phone for daily usage.Regret that no contain the e-mail device, is all that he miss.

Bought this to replace previous cell phone, wanted just a basic phone that wasn't too expensive. Bad choice. Big pain trying to enter new contacts. Can't move menu items the way I want them. And the battery needs to be recharged every 36 hours, as opposed to the 4-5 days with my last cell phone. Would NOT purchase this ever again.

I have recently purchased this phone because I trust Motorola products. Unfortunately, I do not like this phone! The keypad is cheap feeling and it is easy to accidentally press the wrong key, which happens often. Also, the user interface is flawed and difficult to move through quickly. Overall, I would describe this phone as frustrating.

What can I do tell from this device???In first sight it is a chep phone , but he have more features.He have on 910 mA/h battery, vhich under high use -make photo, listenig the radio, writing more sms-resist up to 2 days/charge.In the stand by mode he can resist up to the 4-5 days.In spite of the same that I have this phone , dont' like w 388. It si a good phone , but the brand is not have a face set against the concurence.

I've been using it for a year.Camera is not good but it can be used.If you want pro pictures you buy digital camera.Texting is ok for me.It is resistfull even on hard drops(I played football with mine).Its true that it doesn't support video but its pretty cheap so you cant expect pro phone.Music player is good +2Gb mem.card works great.Battery last for 8 days with only phoning,with music it lasts 4 days.So if you need phone for calls and don't want to spend a lot of money this may be your good choice.

As for the "error unknown" problem the only solution i found was doing a Master clear followed by a master reset (or vice versa). It can be done by going to Settings -> Initial Setup -> Master Clear/Master Reset. Both Master clear and reset have to be done one after the other to get back the message functionality. WARNING: Master clear and reset wipes out ALL data on ur PHONE MEMORY. You will lose all contacts unless they are stored in ur SIM. Back up ur contacts to ur SIM and lock ur important messages. Locked messages wont be deleted.

I just bought this phone a week back. It's a very good basic phone. Good sound clarity. It's just a VGA camera, 65k colored 128x160 pixel screen. Camera clarity is good in sufficient light. Over all I'm satisfied. I give 4.5 out of 5 for this phone..

Hi, I am currently using this instrument. This phone doesn't have vedio player, Blutooth, vedio recording facility too. Basically after using all softwares available on motorola website, related to this phone, I could not able to connect my cell phone to PC for data loading in memory card via USB cable. So if u want to insert any data in ur memory card u have to remove the memory card from cell. And insert it in other usb device for data uploading. So this is also an important point while using this instrument. All in all for simple home use this is the good instrument.

This phone is simple, fast and nice to have if you only need a phone for communication purposes and not for multimedia. I'm just wondering that the DB corrupt warning always appear whenever I insert my memory card. Good camera quality. Lacks bluetooth though. Not recommended for the techie type user. Good music player software. Keypads sometimes is hard to press but it is still considerable. Very cheap and simple and practical phone for daily use.

Your phone can't be infected by a virus because it's not a smartphone. Only smartphones/PDAs can be infected. Even if your memory card has a virus it won't affect your phone. Just be careful not to infect the computer when you browse your memory card from your PC.

My younger sister has the same problem. What i did was i go to the Settings Menu, choose Initial Set Up then go to Master Clear...select then punch in 000000 then ok. Though is temporary but its better than taking out the battery everytime.

menu->settings->initial settings if u dont hav it; ur software is outdated, so switch off remove battery then SIM do the reverse & switch on. It ll ask u 2 set time & date

the motorola w388 is a basic camera phone with radio,mp3 and expandable memory. i call it a stop-gap phone since it was made to satisfy motorola's want for additional pointless models and not to satisfy it's consumers. case in point is the constant dropping of calls depending on the kind of network and sims used! are we going back to the pre-celfone era? the non-colored celfones are better than this unit if they can't even fix this glitch! motorola better fire their think-tanks and find better people because they sure are not doing their jobs and just like this particular model a waste of money and salary!no wonder motorola seems to be steadily dropping out of the celfone rat-race and losing their buying public,especialy now that there are cheaper and better celfones out in the market willing to satisfy their customers and not scrimp on their products'quality and features.

hi, just came from moto shop there's actually a trick for that and it is a known issue. try this: >go to the In call Setup >Call Cost set up >credit limit >put in the Pin2 code (1234 as default) >set values to 9999999 (should be seven 9s) and that's it, it should work -read it from someone..

I am very happy with my Motorola W388. I have everything that I need from this phone. I looks decent though not flashy. It is very handy as well fits well with in your pocket. Texting could be a problem in the beginning but when you get used to it, it is realtively easy. The sound quality is good. The battery has long stand by time, and talk time. When you want good quality pictures, you can buy a digital camera with all the savings that you get from this very reasonably priced phone! Bluetooth and IR well, just send it via SMS or MMS. Well, it can't everybody's cup of tea but I say I will stay with this phone for quite a long time.

My phone are N3500 n W388, n i not disapointing with W388. i think if u have much budget u can buy N3500, if not W388 is reasonable, because U can buy two W388 or one N3500, because two new W388 similar price with one new N3500, at my country.

U can download n install opera mini 4.2.0 or game from webaccess.. u can open at games&apps ---> java ---> install new... but if u can't download probably phone setting for access GPRS not correct.... happy fun with W388

it's slow, you can't text properly when your in a hurry. when i use my globe sim and make a call it drops it after a second or two. music wise, it's sound quality is fair. you can have more from SE budget music phones. I'm not degrading moto phones it's just this one is not the best you can get out of motorola. and it has no IR or BT, sucks. one thing i like about it is that it's memory is expandable.

i'm unable to make/ receive calls. Calls drop out after a second or two. Can't send/ receive MMS messages as well. I can't install decent games as well. I may have bought a lemon. For me it's basically an mp3 player with texting capabilities.

You can connect the phone as storage device at first, copy the driver from the driver folder inside the internal memory. I like this phone, there was some goodies that make me smile.

Hi, I just bought this phone 2 months ago, but now I got problem with sms/mms.I can't receive/send sms.I still can receive mms but can't download the content.When I try to send the sms, it says "Unknown Error".When I turn off the phone it says "Message Store Progress...Please Wait..." it is to long.Untill I leave it a hold night,when I wake up,it keep says "Message Store Progress...Please Wait...".Then I just take off the battery then put it back then it back to normal but still stuck with the sms/mms problem.Other features still work fine.Did anybody have experienced that.How to solve it.

i have purchased w388 in 2 week of november till then it is in the hands of the company service centre than in my hands. It's display is frequently going to white. And first time the service centre guy taken 7 days and said i have replaced the display unit. But from the same day the problem continue. I called many times the customer care but no use. Once again the phone is with another service centre since 22 nd december.............. god knows how the most worst company serice on earth.

your must 1st charge your w388 for 14 hours to reach its full battery capacity, use it till the battery dies then recharge for 4 hours then on... battery is good...

hello! i just bought my w388 last dec. 25. and it seems pretty decent for a basic phone with mp3 player although the included earpiece is basic also, u can buy and try another for a good sound quality with a thump. this unit seems so picky when it comes to micro-sd, i 1st bought a transcend brand and it seems not to work right. so i replace it with a kingston 2gb and its good. (kingmax also works fine) TIP1: how to make sure micro-sd works fine -- 1st u must format your sd with the phone and try taking pictures and save them. if u see that the pictures are saved in "T-Flash" then your good to go... Such a nice phone. I love it coz it is very resonable price. U can listen to the FM and MP3(available up to 2 GB T-flash slot). I use my grey Moto earpiece, making the sound louder and nicer than a new black one. Telling u the truth, It cost 45 dollars as a 2nd hand one that I had it coinsidently. If u guys have a data connector u can tranfer your music and images easily without any software. It accept MP3 and AMR files but can't use AMR as a ringtone. It is quite small and has a suitable screen compared to its own body. The sound of ringtone is good. It is not for the ones who love taking photos. Also no equlizer for MP3 player.

i think moto deliberately took out bluetooth coz recent studies show that mobile hack thro bluetooth is on a rise. the looks of this phone are somewhat similar to - though looks same 4m a distance :) the hear phones r smaller compared to w270. keypad is much better than w270; biggest missing component is video recording given that u hav 2gb of space. in short - "for the price there's no other match"

last time....my phone also having the same problem as you..whenever someone send me an sms..the only things that i can read is @@@@@@.. Then when i go the nearest motorola service center..they told me that for the first batch of the phone,there where a bug for the sms program,you only be able to send a few bulk sms then it will corrupt(sms software) itself.Then they took my phone..and re-install a new update sms program in it..Reset your master reset won't solve your problem..you have to go to the service center and ask them to update the sms program in your phone..It is free..

I have problem with sending and receiving SMS/MMS. I can't receive SMS and MMS. I try to send SMS and MMS then there is a warning box "ERROR UNKNOWN". I try to change the SIM card (different operator), but the problem still occurs. How's the solving? previously the internet and MMS work good. I installed some application based on Java and it works (unless some incompatible applications).

I bought 2 moto w388 mobiles one for me and another one for my brother. A few days ago whenever someone sends me a message my mobiles used to show me some error "Message store failed" and i try to send message then it says "Error unknown" and when i approach the service centre they said they will replace it. Please be specific whether it happens all the time you send sms or particular contatcs only.. If it happens for particular contacts only,then don't reply them directly,,open a new message and reply them..It's because they've set "reply via same number" options in their mobile.. (or) If it happens for all the outgoing message,,then it's the problem in your message setting..You need to know your service providers message center number,,after you got this type the number in Message->Options->Message Setup ->Service Center (Enter the number here) Note;- Message center no. should be in this format +(country code)(number) eg.. +931111122222

well, i've checked it already...of course you can send on numbers that are not in your contacts... simply type your message then press OK..after that the contact list will appear..but instead of choosing names there click the menu button..you can see the ENTER NUMBER option..just click it and type the number..and THAT'S IT!!! CHECK BEFORE COMPLAINING...ok??

i just bought it hours ago..well..i found it good..the speaker is loud..i loved it...and the price is ok for me..compare to other brands..this features will cost 4-5000 already.. but...is it true that you can only send messages in your contacts? you're not allowed to tyoe a number..oh..i must check it out after charging.. anyway..having no blutooth and infrared is ok..atleast it has usb port so i can transfer photos in my computer.. and..honestly..i just bought it cause my phone is in the repair shop..but i think my money is not wasted.. ^^

This phone does not have a good battery life, you wouldn't even last 2 days with its battery. Also you'll have to type slowly when doing text messages because the phone lags if you type quickly when usually with other phones you can just go ahead and type as fast as you want. I would not recommend this phone to others, it just looks good but that's it, don't get carried away with its low price because its not even worth the money you are paying for.

Sorry friend.,.,I'm not that techie..but before buying a new card try your memory card in other phone., for instance in your friends mobile and check whether it's the problem..then take further step..i think it might be having warranty,so your card will be replaced for a new one..

for 1st ,thanks for your reply.. but..i think my problem is the memory card (new card) of MircoSD got problem...i dont know whether is the MircoSD adapter (brand -Motorola )got problem or the small chip of MircoSD... coz my Hphone totally can't detect the memory card space..so i also can't format it.. i have used a lot of different brand card reader to try to read my MircoSD..but totally fail to detect..but i got tried to connect it using cable only, but it showed 0 byte in my memory card free space..i have search a lot of info regarding this W388 Hphone.. now, the only way that i know was i need to buy another new MircoSD to try with my new Hphone...this time, i will buy for 1GB or 2GB Kingston microSD...hope it will work sucessfully..can i ask that have you got any others idea or suggestion for my problem? thx..

I think you didn't formatted your memory card using your phone..If so,, Do this to format your memory card Menu -> Settings -> Initial Setup -> Format additional storage device (this option will appear if & only if a correct memory card is inserted,ie.,MicroSD) NOTE:-- If you had used your memory card already in other phones or anywhere,,use a card reader in your system and check whether it is formatted as FAT file system.,if not do it first,,then use it in your phone. If it's a new card,then it'll be in FAT file system only..Yesterday only I bought a memory card,it's a 2GB Kingston microSD..Works perfectly in my phone.Now I'm using my previous phones 512mb card..

i have just brought this phone yesterday.. i have insert 1 G of memory card inside the phone..but i cant look for the memory card space in the phone..(i have follow your instruction -> ** Just open Camera -> Options (center button)-> View free space -> Press down until it shows for memoty card** my phone just showed internal free space (4000KB) & Mass storage only (4400KB).. Beside, i cant download MP3 in the memory card which i plug it into the USB reader..it showed that i need to download a disk in drive H..what is this mean? is that memory card have the disk to install?? coz when i brought the memory card, there was no disk include..pls advise...thanks..

Hope you've formatted your memory card correctly.. Do this trick.. Just open Camera -> Options (center button)-> View free space -> Press down until it shows for memoty card You'll see the actual space of your memory card..

Hi I'm new to Motorola phones..This is 1st and best phone..I bought this beauty three days before.. Please tell me how to view the phone memory contacts only in the Contacts..My phone shows both SIM and PHONE MEMORY contacts..I want only the phone memory contacts to be displayed.. One more thing,,what is that icon next to network bar in main display..When I bought the phone it showed three lines..now it shows something different..What it is???

Motorola w388 was purchased by me recently . Its a gr8 set wid 0.3 mega pixel i.e. vga camera , mp3 player , fm wid recording , voice memo & usb ........ Its cost is damn cheap . It supports 2gb memory . Wid t camera u can even capture moments frm tv directly ........ This feature is called Video Capture . Mind u its not video recording its video capture . The built in gmes r xcellent so r t ringtones .......... But I would hve been pleased if it had a bluetooth or an infrared atleast but I am not dissatisfied . My money is worth paying . I shall give it a 7.5 out of 10 4r design 7 out of 10 4r features & 7 out of 10 4r performance .

you can send sms to any number. after writing the text message, press OK, the menu will show list of contacts. press the middle button on joystick, it will show ENTER NUMBER. enter the number to which you want to send sms. Done

when i am transferring games from pc to the phone memory,it is getting saved in JAVA and not in GAMES.and if something is transferred in a folder other than the predefined folders in the phone memory,the phone does not read it.want to know the cost of 512 mb memory card for this.PLEASE HELP.

Design: 8 (Nice conservative design, it's nothing from another world but is a clean design and very nice and confortable keypad, display is passable enough for this music phone) Features: 6 (Passable features for this music phone, it lacks many important features like bluetooth, or a better camera because it's just vga... at least 1.3mp.. display could be better in resolution and size, but is good that has a radio and setero speakers) Performance: 5 (Standard battery, so standard battery life, standard is not impressive, just 5)

I got this cool mob jus a week back after analysing all the models in the market. I got this in motostore for 3300 along with 1 gb card free (diwali promo) - damn cheap indeed. The mobile has crammed all the features that a high end model can give u. It has MP3, Downloadable and installable java games, camera (not that gud), wallpapers and screensavers, these are its best features. Its truly a value for money. Iam not too sure about the battery charge life. This is simply rocking rocking !!!! Iam truly satisfied.

About cons you mentioned: regarding miss call. I think you are not familiar with motorola OS. Im using Moto from long time and most of Moto handsets (SLVR series and RAZR series) show same type of miss call in received calls. If it is marked its received else its missed call. So we cannot call it cons. Regarding second flaw I will suggest plz check when you click send to button there will be first or last in phonebook entry called "[New Number]". Here you can add new number or else click on menu button and there you can find new number. Plz check this and let me know.

I just bought my W388 yesterday. I like its appearence, really. Then I try the music (that's why I bought this cell phone). First radio... I'm glad that it has clear sound, but sadly it can only store 9 radio station. Like I said, I bought W388 for music, so I try to connect it to my computer, unfortunatelly it always failed to connect. My computer ask for the driver, but I don't have it because I didn't receive any driver CD from Motorola. Then I googling on the web and gladly I found what I looking for. And here it is... presented to you W388 is not a perfect mobile phone since it has NO bluetooth, NO separated folder for misscall and most ridiculous thing is; sms can be sent to people from your contact list only. This phone DOES NOT ALLOW you to type a new no. to send other people a message. Oh ya, despite didn't gave me the driver CD and its lacks list, Motorola gave me bonus a 2Gb Micro SD card external memory, FREE! Thank you MOTO. Over all, it's not a perfect mobile phone. but it's a GREAT MUSIC PHONE for it price, try your self. Haha!!!

I bought this phone for Rs 3700 at a store in Mumbai on 14th October 2008. Rs 3250 for the phone+ Rs 250 for a 1 gb memory card. I chose this phone bcoz I needed expandable memory and mp3 player at a price range of 3500. Pros�more features at comparatively low price (sony and nokia wud give u these features at minimum Rs 4000- 4500.) � Looks decent for its price. other brand phones at this price tag don�t look as good. � Decent battery life for medium usage(playing music for total 4 hrs etc in a day) Cons�sms can be sent to people from your contact list only. Seems so stupid but its true. This phone does not allow you to type a new no. to send other people a message. � It takes time to get used to the itap sms system in this phone. It is different fromn the t9 system in nokia and sony phones � There is no separate folder for missed calls. In received call list if the no is not tick marked then it implies that was a missed call. � The mp3 player interface could have been better (I was using a sony ericsson w200i before this�its interface was much better and earphones were top class.) moto w388 cant match it. Overall, go for sony ericsson w200 or nokia 3110(has Bluetooth) if u can spend 4500. moto w388 is best buy at this price. Moto w270 does not support mp3 ringtones

I have been using Moto SLVR L7 over long time and want second backup phone. I really trust Moto in terms of Build Quality and Value for Money. I have few questions Regarding W388 in my mind - * Can I manage my Contacts through PC? * Battery charging with USB cable works? * Does Memory Card act like Removable Storage when connected through USB? * Does it play smoothly with 2 GB Micro SD card? Money wise....this unit is a good choice in terms of features.....audio quality is superb with MP3 and FM Tuner output....camera is also good....memory is outstanding(2GB).....whatmore can you as for....most important it's very very cheap.

i purchased this model a couple of months back. my opinion is that if you are used to nokia models never buy this. the menu options are extremely limited and not very easy to use. the screen resolution is mediocre.the battery part is ok.so is the music player. overall worth the price. as the nokia models with comparable specs will cost 5000+

1. the motorola website said the battery life can be around 400hrs standby & 7.5hrs talk time.. given dat it was lack of connectivity functions it sure can last longer compare to others.. 2. wat can u expect from a vga camera? sure u cant compare to cmos or other kind of cam but with such cheap pricing the cam is sufficient enuff for me.. n u also can take some beautiful pic too with some tinkering..

I wanted to ask a couple of questions about this phone: 1.) Is the battery good? 'Cause I have a Motorola W230 and the battery sucks, I have to charge it everyday and I hate that. So I wanted to know if this phone's battery is like Moto W230. 2.) Is the camera good? sony ericson's W200i is a nice phone it cost 3500 or may be below it its a walkman series phone with good sound quality and expandable memory and also contains infrared port but lacks bluetooth overall its a good phone and affordable too

Good Performance 4. Pretty Good Design 5. Good Digital VGA camera with 4X zoom 6. Nice MP3 Player 7. Nice FM Radio with FM recorder 8. Good Audio Clarity 9. Memory card slot- Extendable upto 2GB 10. We can use this phone without SIM card 11. Low cost(Rs.3100 to Rs.3500) Disadvantages: 1. No Bluetooth or Infrared 2. Speaker is not louder 3. Battery Backup is not good enough Overall Motorola W388 is a Nice phone with nice features with some minor disadvantages!!! My Rating(overall): 7 out of 10 (7/10)

I must say motorola is better than nokia, sony Ericsson and Samsung even in sound clarity and camera picture quality. If u need bluetooth u can buy another model of moto bt don't say this set is bad. In this range motorola W388 is the best...And the performance is really very good including battery life....
