  • Using this phone for 1.5 years now. Really happy. There are many wrong things written on this thread about this phone. I recently upgraded this phone from 2.1 Eclair to 2.2 Froyo. Absolutely loving it. It has everything what I want. The limitied internal memory is not a problem because I have rooted my phone and using Link2SD to move all my installed App to SD card. I have many app and many are really heavy in size. According to me the the only problem is that sometimes i feel it is slow. But this happens only when there are multiple apps open. There is an App - Milestone Overclock to overclock the CPU from 550 MHz to 1 Gz and more but if you clock it more that 1 Gz. the phone hangs. The EVDO (CDMA 3G) speed is awesome. It works flawlessly on calling using viber. Tethering was not possible on 2.1 but it is possible with 2.2.

  • Not possible. There is no H/W in it to support 3G on GSM. 3G will be supported for CDMA only. Read Specs.

  • Net works just fine. Infact I am using reliance 3G on CDMA and the speed is really good. If you r facing any problems in settings, contact their Customer Care.

  • Hi Uday or any user, Are you using data service, Mobile internet? The phone is not responding to Reliance CDMA service. Please suggest if it is working well or suggest how to configure the connection.

  • Buyer Caution: Because of Android Restrictions, this fone 1) cannot host Hotspot although it can access WiFi, 2) USB Tethering isn't available, so you won't be able to access your phone's net on your laptop or PC. 3) internal memory is just 197MB, so can't install as many apps as you may want. Rooting the device will solve all these problems. But it will definitely void your warranty because ROOTING IS NOT UPDATING. So I have decided to root it after the one year warrant ends.

  • Didn't hang even once as of now, even when the processor is weak, just 550 MHZ. That was a good surprise. The interface and brousing is smooth. I wouldn't advice updating the 2.1 Eclair. Although your warranty wouldn't void by doing so, it will still add additional burden on an already underpowered CPU. Anyways, I don't feel the need to update unnecessarily. 2.1 works just fine. Battery is a disappointment, as like every android fone. Can't watch a 2hr HD movie without the charger. One gap that I noticed - you can't organise your contacts in groups like friends, relatives, colleagues.....thats inconvinient for someone like me. Also you don't have inbox, outbox, drafts option for SMS. I think it's bcoz of 2.1. Other Androids with higher versions have these facilities. Resolution is terrific. The video player they provied can play only MP4, but I downloaded a player from Android market, so now it plays every thing even MKV. But be careful with the resolution you play. In all its the best buy in GSM+CDMA. I am happy with it. But if you don't need CDMA, i would suggest somethin else. For 9000, it's worth every penny.

  • hi I am using this phone for about 8 months now. nice one to have. all this while I was browsing through gsm only. this month I tried high speed internet in cdma (mts) . the speed most of the time is of 1x speed only and only on occasionally high speed data was available though there was no problem with coverage. is anything to do with settings here to get only high speed net connection. can anyone please help. .

  • I am a user of this mobile for last 6 months. I have heavy usage in terms of call. I only do light surfing. I get decent 1 day battery backup. This phone has lot of good features. But no front camera. I use milestone overclock to overclock the phone to 1ghz. Hence performance is very good. Overall, a great gsm+cdma phone. I will happily recommend this phone to any1 who wants gsm+cdma functionality.

  • This a special phone for Chinese market. They use GSM for private phone and CDMA for work. So the Moto gave this solution only in China, a different product from that in South Korea, Japan, American and Europe. The Good news is--there is no fake, the bad is you have to update ROM in order to use the 3G in GSM mode. The Rom is available in Moto China web site.

  • I Google translated it looooong address..... to keep it simple, check your own XT800 (be careful, XT800 has several version such as XT800W / Glam), the page you are referring to is for XT800 with dual sim (CDMA and GSM) steps: 1. check your version of firmware, and download the update package as listed on the website. 2. unroot (if your unit is rooted), load back to its original firmware (with out GMS installed and not rooted) 3. rename (not unzipping) the update package to update.zip 4. copy the update.zip to your sd card (not under any folder, just the sd card directory) 5. turn on the phone, hold power + camera and search button till the triangle appears 6. press volume up + camera 7. choose apply update.zip select it with the search button 8. your device is updated, now you can install the GMS and root your device (or root your device then install the GMS)

  • Hi, I have a demo Moto XT800w that I got from a communication company. I'm trying to enter it into recovery mode. I tried to use the keys combination mentionned in the previous post. I did get a triangle with a phone lying in front of it. From this point I could do nothing, no key combination would work to enter recovery menu. I can only press power again to reboot as usual. Can someone know what I could do ? As a matter of fact I'm trying to install a neutral ROM as the stock one goes with a lot of applications I don't use and don't manage to delete. They use a lot of memory and I can't get as much as new ones as I'd like. I think stock applications come from a Korean communication company. A pink and orange T keeps showing everywhere in the phone. Does someone know what I can do ? And especially where I can find a custom ROM that suits this phone ? Thank you !

  • perhaps this will do, press and hold them down: power + search + camera (all the way down) then you'll get a triangle in the screen, release the three buttons press and hold camera + volume up if done correctly, there should be a menu, to navigate up and down using the volume rocker, to select, press search tell me if that help.

  • Get out of your "well" nicksti, CDMA phone now only come with a T-Sim. The Old Simless Handets are obsolete. CDMA sim is known as a T-sim and does not work in GMS phones. But there are Sim slots that accept both CDMA and GSM sim as the connectors are the same. Please do some research before answering queries. T-Sim is available for CDMA for quites some years now

  • it abolutely doesn't matter. if you're using a smartfone and the battery lasts more than 100h, then you're doing something wrong. if you want a phone that lasts 13 days, go for a nokia 6xxx. a smartfone that uses internet, mail, facebook and some apps on a 3,7" screen will never last more than two days. (2010 - maybe in some years ..)

  • China Telecom already start selling them, around 5680 CNY nearly the same price as Iphone 3gs, it got dual sim!!! CDMA and GSM, can also check contact on both sim really good, cos china jus started 3g network this shud be the best phone for china now, no more iphone!!! Go for MOTO now!!

  • the phone is going to sell in china for a little over 5500rmb which at the current exchange rate is some where around 800 dollars usd. dont know when it will come to the states. the specs say it has more functions and capabilities then the iphone. the only downside of the xt800 is that the battery life seems to be really crappy, the specs say 4.7 hours talk time and 100 hours stand by, but the real usage times never seem to be the same as what company quotes. other then the battery looks to me like this is the perfect phone. i placed an order out, but china telecom seems to be out of stock.
