Yes it is worth it, I also have the N8, 808 and Lumia 1020. It is a magnificent phone to have and makes a great camera phone trio. But if you use it only as a camera, then you can probably also keep your Nokia 808 for that.

Question: I have found a brand new lumia 1020 for 145€ I have a nokia 808 and a n8. I sold the 950xl because I didn't like the photos of people and the strange skin tone it produce. I use the 808 and the n8 as my photo camera. Is it worth buying the 1020 for 145€ to replace the 808 and being my camera? Or is it better to buy a compact camera? I like the sony rx100 but it costs 300€ and I don't know if the picture quality os better than the 808 or the 1020. Thanks!

I do like the 808, but sadly it doesn't have RAW image support. That's a shame. :(

Then you should opt for 808 instead. Noticeably less noise in full resolution (bigger sensor, bigger pixels). More versatile, you can choose between full resolution and 8mp, 5mp and 3mp pureview modes. You can adjust sharpness, contrast and saturation before shooting. (Also colour modes.) Xenon flash (and pretty powerful). Battery lasts longer, especially in offline mode. (And is swappable. Pretty cheap too, got one for 7 euros few weeks ago.) Screen has much better sunlight legibility (pretty important, imho). And last but not least, after comparing tens of pics from 1020 and 808, latter can squeeze out more detail. Only con: a bit narrower dynamic range.

This phone may be 5.5 years old now and only runs on Windows Phone 8.1, but would that stops me from buying now? Not even a tiny bit. In fact, I will use this as my photography gear alongside a Nikon external flash depsite its age.

It can get warm when you use it for a long time, it's because of the uniform design. But my 1020 doesn't get as warm as my 930, which has a metal frame and can get much hotter when using it for a longer time. You might have to check your CPU temperature, maybe it's getting too hot.

Sadly, music recognition via Bing search on WP8.1 isn't supported anymore. I miss that feature, it was so convenient when you were listening to a song and had no idea who was the artist or what the name of the song was. But this feature gave the answer.

Yes, for the camera, for a lag free OS even after 5 years, for day to day use of watching videos and using WhatsApp, for email (best email client I have ever used), for some web browsing (I am writing this on my 1020 now). It is still a very strong phone. Too bad for not getting updates no more. But blame MS for that. If you get your hands on an affordable 1020 I would definitely say go for it.

You can officially update it to Windows 8.1 and it still works and you can download the majority of applications in your store. However unofficially you can upgrade to windows 10 and have more applications, it is better 8.1 is more fluid. You must use Facebook messerger by browser to chat.

Got my lumia 1020 used for $220 3 years ago, and my device had a year of usage before, it still works perfectly, switched to windos 10 but reverted quickly because windows 10 doesnt do justice to this great device. I can still outshoot cameras from the latest iphones and samsungs (in stills especially). The os is very smooth, responsive and intuitive. The shell and the screen are tough like a tank. Dropped it hundreds of times with no case and no vizible kink is seen. The audio jack produces very good sound and the dolby option gives me room to adjust so many details, i have yet to use a device with such a good dack. Now i won a samsung j5 2017 but i will never sell my 1020. Nokia wold gain milions if it builds this device with android.

Definately a good phone, I am still using it now and then. Skype does not work which is very annoying. It has been updates somewhere last summer and since that update it is impossible to sign in. It says connection problems. In deleted the app and installed it again, no solution. More people complain about this. Otherwise WP8.1 still works as fluent as it did when I first used this phone in 2014.

Don't bother with this phone as your daily driver, windows OS is poor no matter how much you try to like it. You get a day of use as long as you don't play with the camera too much. Whatsapp notifications was very slow when I had it, sometimes I had to open the app to receive them. The only reason you are buying this is for the camera, even though it take great and detailed pictures they are many flaws with the camera too. The phone is far to slow to take pictures causing images to be blurred unless you are using the flash. Now here is the biggest problem with the camera, its colour accuracy. It's way off and suffers even more indoors and you will notice pictures being too yellow/green. I have had fun with those phone but it's just not good enough for it being a phone in present day, where Apps are important. Your better off with saving the money for a compact Camera or maybe considering the Nokia 808 if Apps is not an issue for you which have none of the colour problems of the 1020.

Funny you mentioned. I still use this as my main phone to date and I'm squeezing every bit of life out of it. It's such a marvel to have one. It's now a little laggy even if after full reset. Sensors aren't super sharp as before when you use auto. But the shots are still the best compared to current phones out there.

I had this phone for 2 years. Its a giant with 41mp cam. Nothing can compete with this till date. But there is some disadvantages too there. its lagging when you click a pic it took 2-3 seconds to process the image so you may loss some precious moments. Other than that nothing can come closer to this

Image capturing in Lumia 1020 is better in Lumia Camera App than Stock Camera app. Use manual settings for imaging the colours with its life.

1520 is better in everything except for one thing: the camera. So if the camera is the most important thing I should go for the 1020, but everything else is a 1520 the better choice, better hardware, official Windows 10 and an excellent battery.

I hate to say it but you may have a defective unit. I got mine from ebay and the flash doesn't start and the autofocus seems a bit out of order. However you can order a new flash and camera unit and try to install it (that's what I'm waiting on).

I was using Windows 10 Mobile with the Lumia 1020 through the Insider program. I was using the latest build, I don't remember the exact build number. I was really unhappy with performance, even battery life seemed shorter, many apps would lag, especially when resuming from sleep mode. I was using it for almost half a year, but eventually I decided to rollback to Windows 8.1 (Microsoft has a tool called Microsoft Device Recovery Tool, which you can use to rollback to the original system, and have a nice out-of-the-box experience). I really wouldn't recommend upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile, but if you decide to go for it anyway, you can always rollback, so it's perfectly safe. Right now I'm using Windows 8.1 again and I couldn't be happier. I can actually use my phone again.

The only thing special about that camera is the 41MP for more zoom, xenon flash and OIS which was uncommon in 2013. Rest is pretty basic, pixel size for example. I think this camera shines in daylight but gets much worse in low light. I even saw a comparison in 2013 where it lost against Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 in low light test.

If you're going to buy it for the camera yeah absolutely buy it. The best, no doubt. For the ecosystem it might better to shop for a newer or younger Lumia with Windows 10. The 930 can be upgraded to Windows 10 and also has a superb camera albeit with less megapixels. And it's very affordable.

It's outdated. It really depends why would you consider buying an old phone. Is it for backup or testing features? Or do you really want to try the Microsoft ecosystem? If it's the latter, I'd recommend buying one of the upgradeable ones. Windows 10 Mobile will give you a better perspective of the Microsoft ecosystem. I have a Microsoft Lumia 535 and a 950 XL, and I'm more than happy with them.

The 950 is not necessarily a better phone but it's newer and has better specs, more features, better hardware and screen. It's an upgrade over the 1020 except for the camera of course. I am using the 930 for over two years already and that also was an upgrade over the 1020, again except for the camera. Therefore I still gladly use my 1020 now and then as daily phone. But yes, the 950 is an upgrade besides of the camera. Still it makes awesome pics.

It does so yes, although I'm extremely satisfied with the pics taken from my 930, the 1020 is still the camera phone that overrules them all. My daily driver is a 930 but my 1020 is the phone to take when I know I want to have perfect shots.

It has to do with the different network bands, not all countries use the same bands. It's important to get the device that works on the 3G and LTE bands supported in your country. The international variant is the RM-875 which is commonly used.

Very good image and video quality, well-exposed base ISO RAW files can rival a D800's in dynamic range and the colour is even more accurate-though less subtle. Why everyone moans about Windows Phones I have no idea, this one sold me on the system, which is superb!! It has a great FM radio too, and only the 808 Pureview can better it injpeg mode, but the 808, though it has removeable batteries and SD cards unfortunately has no RAW at all from that great big sensor, and ergonomically is very difficult to hold properly- unlike the 1020 with its add-on grip. The grip is an absolute must-have-marvellous!!

Being 4g capable if you have a compatible sim and you are covered in your area it should by (default) pick up 4g but you can go into settings and change it if you are not sure.

It's crazy how many people ask how to upgrade to windows 10 on their Lumia phone it's meant to be very easy they just don't make it public. It called windows insider, an app that will give you the free update, I have a 1020 and am already on 10 you can take advantage of a lot it's a good os! not going back to 8.1! Once you're on 10 you can reinstall it as many times as you want but Apparently Microsoft has now blocked upgrades to all phones that aren't officially supported ,(1020 is being 1 of them. Though there's a workaround.

So sad Microsoft did not come up with a Lumia 1030. On the other hand, that means this remains the camera phone flagship. Maybe Nokia have something up in their sleeves later this year or in 2017... I still love my 1020 it's the best Nokia I ever had. Simply take this sucker with me for making great pics. My Lumia 930 is good, but my 1020 beats it when it comes to shooting pics.

Upgrading via Windows Insider works flawless. I'm using the Release Preview Build without bigger problems. Speed is comparable to 8.1, maybe a little bit slower. The new features of Windows 10 a clearly an improvement. The camera is a bit laggy, you still have to use the old 8.1 Lumia camera app to get double high & low res image output. You can downgrade to 8.1 at any time again with desktop lumia recovery app.

I´m not sure, but I think it can be solved by deleting the account in the settings, add the new account to use for the store and then just install the other account again in the account and mail settings. I think a reset is a bit too much and of course too much of a hassle.

As former professional photographer I can say that in my time we never ever thought such a device would be capable to make photos like it does. I am by no means a fan of any brand and operating system, because for me only the camera is interesting. I used a Nokia 6230 for over 10 years, then I made the switch to a smartphone three years ago, this Lumia 1020. Of course the camera was my main reason to go for this phone and it really brings magic to table, combining both the functionality of a modern media device and my profession as former photographer. I use my regular camera for amazing photos because in my opinion, it's still better and beat. It's made, designed and focused on photography. But yes, this phone what is still is as core function, is indeed a great camera machine. I use it for 3 years now, I am not used to the size of modern phones, but I would not want to trade it for any other smartphone. The camera is and was the main selling point. I would use my Nokia 6230 again for the size, it's tiny compared by today's smartphones.

it takes great photos, period. Several tests pointed out the 1020 to be superior, the quality is great. When I port my pics in full resolution to my PC the real quality is shown. I am glad with it anyways, the best pics from a phone camera.

Youre right, and it doesnt even have that good a camera. Any consumer level Nikon DSLR at 10 megapixels will take superior photos. Lumia owners who are interested in photograpohy has been ranting for many years about how one has to know how to take good photos with a 920 or 1020 or 808, but none of them has been able to show a good photo, its only "resolved detail", they think details at max zoom has anything to do with it...

Select the highest resolution in the camera settings, only available as 4:3 if I'm right. Once you port the pics in high resolution to your PC using the usb cable you will see it's true resolution. They're big files like 11mb per photo.

There are two ways to go about it. install "UPGRADE ADVISOR" from windows store, launch it(it should display windows 10 upgrade advisor), tap on next to check if windows 10 is available for your device. S7 is no comparison to the Lumia 1020, the camera of the 1020 is a class of it's own. With the raw pics you can so much more when they're in full hi res from the 1020. Only the Nokia 808 plays in the same game, rest if the phones are just a lower division.

There is processing bug in Lumia devices mainly with snapdragon S4 plus chipset used in 1020, 920, 925 and 820. These phones have mainly battery drain issues. Snapdragon 400/410 and 810 used in devices like 730, 735, 930 have much better performance in aspect of battery life.

I like this device very much crisp clear pics it is awesome. Syncing with pc is easy. RAW pics is great to use on PC for editing. Batterylife is ok, not the best not the worst. I use a camera grip since some time, extended battery life and good grip and holding like a compact cam.

Used for a year, the camera is excellent, especially good shot and processed in raw. The camera though comes as a tradeoff, battery dies in half a day with medium usage, can last a day with careful use and power saver. Has games but the lack of practical apps or their outdated buggy versions are ridiculous compared with competition. No ftp, remote dslr controls, no decent stock apps, no decent multimedia apps. Basically old Symbian tale all over again with a better web browser. screen is sharp but color calibration sucks, has a green hue and so do jpegs. However what it does do it does well, os is smooth, nothing ever lags, it has been a limited but smooth experience, if it had android it would be one of the best smartphones in the world.

well the Windows 8.1 systems is pretty solid for an operating system, though it has some stability issues. An example of this is when you try to perform a certain action and the entire app you are using just shuts down and you lose saved progress. This is at least once per day and I'm feeling like all the current fixes and development lays within the new Windows 10 devices. The camera in this phone is fantastic and the software for editing pictures is just as great, though the size of the images and videos is incredibly large, which makes sharing incredibly difficult. Windows is great for reading adobe documents. Battery life starts off strong, but eventually it struggles to stay alive for an entire day, even with no blutooth activated and low brightness. One of the big failures of Nokia. If you are looking to buy a 1020 this late in the game, it's worth holding out for the Lumia 550, which is Microsoft branded and comes fully Windows 10 capable with all of the bells and whistles and much improved capabilities over the 1020.

It's a tremendous phone but lumia devices have battery draining problem. Nokia has really dropped the ball in terms of battery performance with windows software.

Whatsapp can't handle big videos like the ones you record with the camera app cause they usually are too large. So you are asked to let whatsapp make the video shorter and smaller in size like 16 seconds for example. But when you use the camera to record a video directly in whatsapp then it can handle a longer video cause the quality is lower i.e. No HD but vga quality. The downside is that you have to record videos directly in whatsapp under attachments>open video and so you're not able to send a video at a later time.

Well the upgrade to Windows 10 is not yet released. Either way you can upgrade to Windows 10 with the insider preview, you have to register. Better is to simply wait till January when the official update will be released for a bunch of older Lumia's.

@Soccho, - Lumia 1020 does not support google maps, out of the box it comes with Here Maps (from Nokia), which can be used offline (after downloading the respective region/country) - Clash of clans is supported as stated here For other games you should google the windows phone store. - As for upgrade to Win10, Lumia 1020 is supported, although the preview of September introduced issues with the camera (better wait for stable release). As per iPhone 5 vs Lumia 1020, I am not aware of iOS, I am the owner of Android Nexus 5 & Lumia 1020 (liked both).

I am getting an iPhone 6S from work and the specs on the 2 year older 1020 are much better or comparable on all categories. They did a poor job marketing this phone. Well, 4 hours of continuous usage is ok for 1020, more then 5 hours won't give you even if it's new. Is not that far from most of the devices, there are really just a few exceptions that hold their charge past 8 hours with continuous usage. You can count them on your hand. Most of your problems are cause off your lack of knowledge, sorry to tell you. If the phone freezez you can force restart it. Never heappened to me but well, some of users have this problem sometimes. To force restart you just need to hold power button together with volume button (down), pressed for 10 seconds. Their you go. Phone shuts down. If this freezing problem happened often you could have format tge device bringing it to factory mode. Their is a setting you can acces and retore your device to factory mode. Look it in your settings up. As for windows 10... Well, this system is on beta, is not for daily use, at least it wasn't. So wipl get way better then it was in the next two weeks. Anyways, you should wait for the official release. And even so, after update you will probably have to format your device to make it work properly and at it's full capacity. So, back up your files before;).

I always connected to the internet or sometimes wifi but it battery only last 4 hours in continual use connected to internet.the windows 10 roll and I used to upgrade to it but after the update I was happy to explore the new os but I was wrong, it was the start of nightmare the 4hours of battery life span was reduce to shortest battery life ever. Even I take it fully charge battery only last not long 1 hr. Sometimes 30 mins. Sometimes 15 mins and sometimes 5 mins. No one can tell.. And after your phone pretending that it has no power at all even you are tired of waiting for 4-6 hours before it fully charge I think it has mind of its own..yes it is.after updating windows 10 this phone has no use. Sometimes if that my lucky day the battery last longer an hour. You can't share your internet via wifi. Sometimes if you connect it to your charger the phone doest detect it. Hiw horrible.phone has no power and when you connect it to charger it can't be.even in computer it cant be connect to usb hub, so i cant downgrade it to W8.1 And so many problem .so I brought it to the repair shop because the store where I purchased this phone was gone. I was shocked because the place I was going to became different from before it has new diffrent store.( i eas in taiwan those days.) so I used to pay on another repair center. It was 2 mos before it is given back to me now it runs on w8.1 I never ever upgrade it to w10 again. And now I can use it , the camera is still ok. But not as good as before. somtimes the usb cord needs to be changed out for new one so data can pass between the phone and computer, cuzz some cords r ment for charging only. iv also had cords that work finr on one pjone and dont on other phones , wierd but thats just the way it is sometimes so swich out your usb cord and it might work fine

Manual focus works to about 9 cm while the closest you can get with auto focus is about 12-13 cm. The width in portrait mode at 9 cm when zoomed in is about 58 mm (about 120 pixels/mm) and when zoomed out the width is about 140 mm (about 50 pixels/mm). You can also save the image as a DNG image if you want to do further processing on it.

You can choose for a 5mp and a full resolution picture which can be copied to the pc once you connect the phone with the pc. These files can be 11/12 Mb maybe bigger. The simple 5mp picture can be used for general purposes, the full resolution picture can be uses for more professional use as you wish.

I guess a software update will solve your problem with notification bar. If it doesn't, change your country and try re installing. Because software is released on country basis. Even that doesn't work, register as a developer, install the "preview for developers" app and try update again.

Now this phone equally better to Iphones response. the entire UI is fantastic . you will get an improved Music app and video app. and fully transparent full wallpaper based home screen. a new windows store. But still some legacy apps are missing on windows 10 . like Lumia camera and some other stuffs.

It depends on what you prefer really. Talking about which is the better for photography, definitely the 1020. Talking about which is better for gaming, the 1520 because of the screensize and hardware. Also don't underestimate the performance of the 1520's camera, cause it has a 20MP pureview camera which makes extremely good photos.

I've got the 1020 for two years or nearly two years now and it's stull running as smooth as day one. This proves WP to be a stable and good OS. Now waiting for the official Windows 10 Mobile release for this phone, I expect it to arrive somewhere near the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016.

You can do a hard reset and will delete pretty much everything you have in your phone after this method or you can download and install in your pc this tool and reset it back to 8.1. If the phone is your daily driver test first the reset if it's unstable go back to wp 8.1.

I have used both 925 and 1020 but in performance 1020 is much better as never gets heated and having smooth functionality. Software: Both are having same specification if you ignore camera. Hardware: Lumia 925 design is very very beautiful and edge surrounded by aluminium metal but it is having only one issue is overheating. That's why 1020 is better.

If you're having connection issues between your phone and pc, replace your cable. It's a cable issue...I had to do the same. eg: my samsung usb cord will not connect my windows phone to my pc with any reliability. The cable I got with my lumia 1020 will connect 100% of the time.

Great camera! Poor OS!! Push notifications are hit and miss, sometimes you reopen Whatsapp, LINE etc, then the messages gets received. Have missed too many messages (people do not call these days) to be have this as my daily driver. In 2011 I got a Lumia 800, which I accepted in reluctance as it had very little apps in store and I wasn't used to it. Little did I know, and expected I'd throw the towell in the ring soon after. This little gem surprised me though, with the stability, stability and more stability, then RUGGEDNESS!!! Oh my, did I see many iphones and samsungs die along the way. The Amoled screen was way out there in 2011, and I necver used a screen protector, it just barely needs it! Not a scratch on it!! So guess what?? I bought myself a 1020 now, and probably will stick to Nokia again if they continue producing such immense quality! I get to test other phones a lot in my line of work, and there are other good phones, and they all have pros and cons, even the WP, but I wouldn't trade it for a Samsung, LG, Apple phone for the world!

Guys stop waiting for a successor to this as they won't be one. Remember Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU's limits to 20MP, see why other all high end phones all stuck on 20MP? Nokia rewrote the imaging stack so we are able to have our 41mp sensor. So wait till Nokia make Phones again or when Qualcomm is announce they able to so.

i had this phone for years . this pone is great and very durable . once i drop it from second floor to ground floor and is still fine no screen crack or anything is very very durable and i dont have any casing with it at all and very very good camera and no lag or any other problem . is the perfect phone. and few days back my phone got stolen and i been looking for the same phone in the market yet no luck . i would really recommend anyone who thought of buying this phone . overall my rating is 5 out of 5

I m not satisfied with windows os. as I used many android set previously.. windows is faster than android but app gap frustrated me . and the available app of windows is inferior than android. for example.. I use opera mini but no option of saving a page. No customizable keyboard, Dialer. when I send multiple msg,in delivery reports it only shows mobile no rather than name. contact transfer is hazardous. No power amp music player (my fav) Mobile get hot when playing game unlike andro.. Camera is OK ..but I desired more. as I thought its 41 mp will be on par with digicam. but in indoor program pic becomes blurr when zoom.. Anyway good luck with or lumia. waiting for windows 10.

super like. day light photopraphy of my samsung galaxy note 2 is better than 1020. Low light pic of 1020 becomes blurr (though xenon) when zoomed. i also using note2 , gionee gionee is even better as it is android. I was recovering windows 8 in Nokia 1020. I installed Nokia software tool. I updated my Nokia 1020 from 8.0 to 8.1 by mistake. Which I don't want. I have both the 1020 and 930. No complaints after a long time of use. Both are very good phones, the 930 is definitely more future proof because of the hardware, the 1020 still is the phone with the best camera. Between those two phones I think they will cost about the same. What about the 925, it is only available with 16GB of which a part will be used by the OS. so if you already have 8GB of music, I might suggest you to either go for a 32GB 1020 or 930, or a Lumia 830 which has micro SD.

Thanks, mate. I was kinda worried about it. It's a shame it's a little behind in the hardware side, it would have been great running a quad core processor. I know WP doesn't need it to run smoothly, but we won't see many updates for the 1020 (like full Denim). That's the main reason why I chose the 1520 in the first place. Considering their releases are only two or three months apart, it a big difference.

You can update to Denim if at&t Lumia 1020's are able to update to Denim. Doesn't depend on in which country you are with an at&t phone or any other carrier branded phone, it depends on the carrier and their update policies for their phones. Best is to just check it via settings and software updates.

Finally I updated 1020 to denim by installing the windows phone recovery tool on PC and,then I,connected my phone and it,appeared on the program. As i clicked it, the program showed the there is an update for the phone then I followed the steps and everything is fine now. Guys, I don't have any issues regarding the phone. I think it's the greatest phone ever made.

I have had my Nokia Lumia 1020 for about six months now and at first I loved it. The pictures were amazing and the windows operating system was much less mainstream than apple. But about three months into it it began doing this thing where it turns off and will not turn on for anything causing me to reset it very often (I've done research and found that others had problems with this too). After I learned how to turn it back on again it was fine but a few days ago it completely froze when I tried to take a picture and overheated to the max, I put it in the freezer because that is supposed to shock the battery back to life and it did but when I tried to soft and hard reset it it showed a screen with a lightning bolt and a gear so I had to reset it using different buttons which finally turned it back on after it fell on me in the middle of the night and woke me up because it was burning hot (not very happy about that).And now the volume button is somehow permanently wedged into the phone so it causes the other buttons to freak out causing me to have to reset it about five times in one day. I worked very hard for the money to get this phone a d have treated it better and more carefully than others because of it so when it was in mint condition and began doing this it is safe to say I was going to have to get a new phone, preferably not this one. I wouldn't recommend anyone buy this almost brand new phone until they fix all of this crap because had it not totally and completely crashed on its own the camera would have been worth the money. As it is I am writing this to hopefully save you all some wasted money. If you absolutely feel like you need this phone, as I did, I would recommend giving up on that dream or waiting a few years for Nokia to get their shit together.

I've got this Nokia 1020 for 6 months and i have to say there are only 2 issues. 1. Sometimes it has big lags when surfing on the internet 2. 3 times my screen has "frozen" idk how to call it -screen and the unlocking button isn't working. ( btw, my nokia 1020 has it now. The screen is stuck for more than 50 minutes right now). Someone can explain why this happens? The good thing about this phone -BATTERY. Trust me! I bought Sony z ultra- the battery is a disaster! ( only 2 hours when playing 3d game. And battery goes from 100% to 15% when watching a movie) Nokia's battery survives ~ 7 hours when taking photos. I like almost everything in this phone- except those annoying screen lags!

That's not a problem. It's something all phones with this type of screen get. It only happens when the screen is showing black and usually only noticeable in the dark. It won't affect your screen at all otherwise and won't get worse. There is actually a term for it but I cant remember it at this stage

I am using this phone since summer 2013, and never had any battery issues whatsoever. Heating issues, no problem. It gets warm when you use it much, that is logical because it has a unibody design. I don't burn my hands from it, so I don't see a problem. Still using this phone, not as my daily driver at the moment because I do use the 930 now.

Guys iam getting good battery life....my phone just came back from nokia care..my battery back cover was replaced as my mic was spoiled...in warranty the replaced the battery back cover...as my phone was back to cyan...I upgraded to denim and only backed up...contacts and sms...and I installed only few apps that I really use...iam getting very good battery life...make sure your mail is set to hourly...make sure few apps are only allowed in the back ground...iam getting more than 24 hours in a single charge...with glance screen on..touble tap to unlock on...

me too noticed a black line(seems to be drawn with a marker pen) at upper part of viewfinder at dark room but not visible in picture or in other use.... Anyway its not a big issue but battery life is my main concern. i regret for buying this mobile for poor battery life (1/3rd of my note 2).. Hi fiend, I have recently purchased the lumia 1020, had some issues with the battery persformance, but afther some research and tweaking and making some changes i have a good performance with the battery, i have installed windows 8.1 now. 1) mail: put the mail to check every 15 minutes, this will save a lot of battery 2) dial ##3282 go down in the right corner where are tree points. touch there and will appear a menu select polling and put it on 7 o 9 i have it on 9 and the network on 2g 3) close all the backgroud applications 4) put the brigthess in auto, because when is at night will get dimmer automaticly, because there is no brigthess bar. 5) And the las, if you have windows 8.1 installed and have the shut down issue, testing the only way it will not shut down is having all the apps up to date. thats all, sorry my bad english.

For that you need to go to the settings menu, then look for network & simcard (not sure how it's called in English), select that, then select the simcard settings. From here you can set your max. network speed, 2G/3G/4G etc.

As long as you have wibdows phone on it, camera sounds wierd while shacking the device (like something is moving inside) but the device feels rockstady, it is original. So no worries. As for 909 this is how Nokia devices recognize it. Anyway, i don't think you could catch a fake one, and ecen if you'ld do, you will notice it by tge device it self and not by some numbers...

I have been using this phone for 6 months, believe me when i tell you that the camera is amazing. Lots of apps have been appearing in the wp store recently and the number is rising. The OS is fast and i think that wp 10 will be much better. Even if you are a google user, as i used to, and you do not use lots of apps, i invite you to use wp OS. I will not tell you if it is better or worst, all i can say is that worth the try a different OS.

Got my Denim update last night 11/02/15..Lumia camera now faster phone running more smooth and faster plus got all the little bells and whistles. Haven't test if there's been an improvement in battery life as yet, I battery life was never too much an issue for as I usually pull 30-34 hrs on moderate usage and 15-20 hrs from heavy usage( not a gamer so that's excluded from my usage). This phone is my first run with windows and I must say its been a great experience thus far.will update on battery life when I have a chance to test it out.

Hi L1020 users, I chose to buy L1020 due to its unique design. My only problem is that the battery life. Background tasks are disabled, always airplane mode, wifi-off,bluetooth not often use, glance off, brightness low, vibrate off, battery saver always on, still, with regular use I only last 8 - 12 hrs in full-charge (2hrs). Sometimes, It would only last about 6 hrs, with wifi on, quite gaming, pictures. I will be more satisfied if this would last a day in intensive use. Still, no regrets to its features and I'm planning to buy a powerbank for this. :)

There are things in which symbian is just way smarter then all systems on this market: Battery efficiency, RAM handeling, let's not forget the mighty real multitasking that nobody can dream and open close programs in real tine (not hanging somewhere in the tasks as always heappens with other systems. The posibillity to manipulate what will stay in the processes and so many more that defines it for a real smartphone. Well, what would you miss? Fm transmiter, usb on the go, hdmi, realtime multitasking (i still hate how wp multitasks, is pathetic). If you are a geek you will probably miss the option to play with opened task and to have more cobtrol on the core system. With wp android ios you can forget it. Yeah android trys to simulate some symbian stuff, but well. Nope, they are not close to that and an android user will never understand why am i saing this. Just cause they don't know how symbian really function. They don't understand symbian is not just a mobile system, symbian was the only mobile system that simulate a pc in many, many MANY ways. Sadly, we will never see the power of it cause well, Nokia never really upgraded it's guts to a more powerfull state. What will you gain? Plain interface( i love the interface of wp, i have to admit) i tried to make my n8 look like an wp as much as possible. Speed. Yeah speed is speed and an 680 mhz processor cannot face a plain interface working on a dual core. (now o quad cores). Bigger better screen, Camera. Well, yeah, ia better, of course is better, has 41 mpx:). To tell you the truth, now i will go bak to symbian only if: Has 2GB RAM, a dual-core clocked at 1700mhz and a 41mpx camera with lumia design:). Ok lumia design is not that important. So this has to tell you something. Would i recomend it to you? Well, i don't know. The only thing making me not to be sure is the battery. It sucks, big time. No mattter what i do, i cannot pass 1 day and half, now has gotten even worse, i don't seem to pass 20 hours barier. It's eating battery like skitles. Now maybe mine is defectous, i don't know... But for sure i hate tgis battery. I would tell you to wait for a new flagship, if you have money, juat cause of the battery. But if you think the battery is not that much of a problem to you then, yes it is a worthy upgrade. Keep in mind that camera eats even more. 2% per 1 minute after my calculations. That's allot!

Cool, i dad that installed before the 8.1 update, my phone was not that happy with it. But it worked ok, cannot complain to much. When 8.1 came out (you also maybe know) we could not update so we had to use nokia tools to downgrade tge system back to 8, from 8.1.1 well, was a bit shity to go back to 8. Well, then i dhad 8.1 but still i wanted the latest :). But after all the bad experience i had with the update (i don't like formatting, it all takes to damn long) and after seing how stable my phone became with the cyan, i decided to let it like this. Never thought i will wait almost half a year for this really small update, this just makes me nervous....

That's one feature that sort of irritates me. With the 808 one could use the volume buttom to zoom in and out but with the 1020 you have to pinch to zoom in and out on the screen itself. Good luck.

There can be two problems, one small and one quite big. The first can be an os error (to fix it you can try formatting your device, still, this is rarely to never happened), the second one is crap but, can be hardware malfunction or the xenon is dead.

If it's new, i don't know why, but is normal. Though you should let it cool down. Don't use it while charging if heats up to much. After more then half a year my phone does not heat up but only when extreme using, like using camera browsing charging in the same time, or playing games... At some point will accommodate with the new user and will start to cool down, or not heating at all.

I have. Got the LG G2 - fab display, brilliant battery but the only downside is the bloatware and the security side to it. You're always having to scan things and then it tells you your phone is "overheating" so you have to "cool" it down with the scanning app. The 1020? I so love this phone - everything is perfect and it really is (no security issues, no having to "cool the phone down") - BUT it's the battery that is a total BIG let down. And what's the point of having a smartphone when you have to "disable this or that". I'm sticking to my iPhone 6 as I constantly use it all the time as a "smartphone" and the battery is briliant. the camera drains battery so if you use it much maybe a cameragrip will help wirhbextra battery life. Also you can set screen brightness to low and disable as many apps possible which running in background. Hooe it helps mate. Battery gets better after some charges. Denim will be available on the 1020 soon. The rollout to many more devices is going on since this month so I'd expect it soon. Personally I don't use a screen protector but it can never hurt. Gorilla glass is good but not unbreakable. A out the cover for the lens, i don't know. I know some cases providing lens covers, but they are part of the case itself.

A good decicion, the 1020 is awesome. Picture quality is great. It beats the K zoom, except for optical zooming because it doesn't have that. But this phone has the best camera on a phone, with PV technology, after you made the photo you can zoom in like nuts and the quality remains good because of oversampling. Good luck with your 1020, and go for yellow, it will be a great color for a change!

Also 1020 dosent supports OTG (huge let down IMHO) 5) Sunlight screen readability of 808 is still best out there (handy for capturing pics during daytime). 6)though symbian is almost dead as dodo but still lot more customizable then windows OS. 7) Shot to shot time is approx 3-4 sec in 1020 and 1-2 sec in 808 8) and last but not the least, battery backup. my 808 used to last upto two complete days with heavy usage while 1020 dies on me within 08 hrs. This is going to be your biggest gripe if you migrate. Hope that helped...

Have been using this phone for almost a year now and like every other phone, it has its ups and downs. Please note that i use this as my secondary phone (nothing beats BB for me as a workhorse). I have used and using all kind of os and phones (i use 3 devices at any given time...lols) so i think i can compare it fairly with others. So here is my go on this phone: PROS: Camera: Will get you good picks even on auto settings but move your lazy arse a little and learn a bit about manual settings. Thats where this camera truly shines. you will be amazed what you can achieve with manual settings. also apps like refocus, panorama really give amazing results. Screen: Ok, not very much by today standards, but amoled gives an edge to this over others. recently compared its screen with one of my friend's sony z1. Color reproduction and sun light readability are far better on 1020. Also comes with feather touch (means you can use it with gloves also). A true blessing fr ppl lik me living in Himalayas :-) Build quality: Nokia has always been known for its tank like build quality and 1020 is no exception. Earphone music quality: Im saying earphones coz speaker is normal. However plug in some good quality earphones and you will really enjoy your music. Also dolby enhances the clarity further. OS updates: 1020 has been getting every update till date and it seem will continue to do so for at least 1-2 more years CONS: Battery: One of the biggest gripes of this phone. Though i dont use it as my primary phone but still have to recharge it at the end of the day (normal usage being max 1 hrs of talktime, 3-4 hrs if music and 10-12 shots per day). No internet, no videos, no wifi. Shot to shot time: if you want to take the pic in an instant, forget it with this. 1020 takes at least 3-4 seconds to save a shot after being taken (808 was far better in this matter). OS: This one is a mixed bag. If you are migrating from android you will be sourly disappointed. apart from lack of apps, the os is still a long way from anywhere close to ios (ios still rocks for the ease of use) or android (it dosent even have a data toggle switch in notification pane!!) If you are a ios or android user and thinking of getting this phone, chances are, camera will be the only up gradation for you and you will be loosing in all other departments. HOwever, there is almost no lag on the phone (except for camera app sometimes with panorama stitching)and contacts (people app) is one of the best i have ever used Thats all that is coming to my mind right now. However if you have any specific questions regarding the device, please feel free to ask. PS: I Am from India so my views may be accordingly biased.

You most likely have a unit with battery defects. And as for the camera. I was also a bit disappointed at first with my 808 pureview's camera. But I was blown away when I finally was able to utilize its features and not just rely on auto mode. It might be the same with your 1020. You need to take some time in learning the features and how to use the camera properly. And I hope you know already how a physical shutter button works in focusing shots. ;)

Camera-wise yes, no doubt. The screen of the 1020 is sharper, but the 830 has a removable battery and a micro-sd card slot. Besides, it has older hardware. But if you look for a phone for it's camera, in this case the 1020 is the one to have. Besides it will be upgraded to Windows 10 eventually next year so for that I would not worry to not get updates no more.

This phone is a huge disappointment it overheats ,constantly. to the point where it can burn , especially on charge. the battery drains when even on aeroplane mode, with wifi switched off and data by the second. The camera Could be amazing but its hard to use, out of 10 photos 9 come out blury stabilized or not. now either I got a dud or the phone sucks. if anyone else had similar problems I'd be interested to know. thank you :)

I noticed GSMArena did not do an audio test citing a defective connection. I really want to know about the audio player quality since this is one of the few phones offering volume leveling. Perhaps the problem is that the contacts on the 3.5mm jack are not standard. I even have an adapter to convert from a Nokia 3 or 4 contact earphone to a standard 3.5mm socket. It will be difficult, you can try to purchase a 1020 from ebay or another shop which also ships internationally, but then you will probably have to pay import fees which will raise the price again. It's worth though if the price inluding import fees is lower than when you buy it in your own country.

Just read on a Dutch website the 1020 follower will only get a 20MP camera as in the 930 and 1520, and Microsoft is not going to continue the 41MP cameraphone wonders. I certainly hope that is not true.

By far the best Nokia Lumia I have had. I hope the Denim update comes soon. Microsoft said before the end of 2014 but my hope is slowly fading as 2015 is just around the corner. New Glance screen with date is nice. Just saw it had an update which I probably missed.

I have always had nokia love them... im on my second yes "second" 1020 since may this year and had nothing but trouble... got the phone for the camera :) but have been totally let down. It turns its self off 3 times a day doesnt save any photos or text messages. Been sent off for repair and they couldnt fix it so sent me another one for it to be the same :(

I hope you're right, it will be nice if they show a 1020 next month. Hope it will be a really awesome device like the 1020 with new improvements and innovations. Here's a possibly proto type but it look A LOT like a 1020 though: I don't mind if it looks like the 1020. I think it's still a nice looking phone, whether you like the bump or not. If I compare my 1020 with my 930 I prefer the 1020's rounded edges more.

Might be, if I double tap it takes a few seconds before the screen goes on or sometimes it doesn't react at all. My 930 reacts immediately and with two soft taps it wakens up. It doesn't really bother me much but it's noticably different compared to my 930. Besides that, my Lumia 1320 also has the same problem as my 1020 regarding the double tap to wake function.

You'll have to download an app that lets you open PDF files, like PDF Reader (Microsoft) and the PDF will be saved in the app. You can open the app and read the PDF file. Also you can save the files to your One note or One drive and view them.

I just turned of that double click to open screen function (it wasn't very sensitive anyway) and it seems to have extended the battery life. I hope the upcoming 1030 will be better in that regard and more ergonomic.

Yup,I love my lumia 1020.. But the only problem not actually a problem but yaa it really hacks a battery life. The only option u have to go out with ua phone is to carry its power bank along.. If u have an external wireless support for your phone then 1020 is the best lumia u can have.. The Best Camera and The Best Phone too..

hallo, today i buy new lumia 1020 an as i have before nokia n8 i knew what means good camera on the phone.there was no surprise that camera did FANTASTIC job.i just return my new acer e700 phone because what i found is that android is for kids wich like to play with app's=no thanks.i want phone to be phone and this is first time i try windows phone..honest i loved simple kind of use.i onderstood compleet phone in first hour.FANTASTIC..!! phone touch glass felt like a milion, runing slight down on edges like..camera takes photos size 8-10mp camera BUT it is crazy clear, and video in 1080p "p=progresiv" MMmmmm Fanntasticc..loved it all the way..imidge stabilisation is bild in.and REAL flash is what makes this even better !!SIZE of the phone is PERFECT for pocket .!! over all the phone is SUPERB,butt batery is realy weak,sorry nokia tech's...

It's a good phone and not so special expect his 41mpx, but in case it's just numbers bcoz in some situations it takes pics like 1520 or 930 which hv 20mpx ....i think for the camera 📷, the 808 wins expect that is not a Lumia.

I currently own N97, 808 PureView & Lumia 1020. As good as my Lumia 1020 picture quality is, my 808 PureView picture and Video quality beats the Lumia 1020. The only place I have observed my 1020 beats the 808 is the sound quality while taking video. The 808 sound while taking video can be very low, not loud. But the 1020 takes video with good sound. Well, i'm not satisfy with what i get from it, as battery backup. As what can offer is more then enough but can't get enough battery to play with it as i would like to. Mine seems that cannot go further then one and a half day, no matter what. Maybe if i use it just for calls can hit the two days barrier but that for my phone will be extrem good. While i get like 5 hours from it when continuous using, 12 hours when using it's camera quite a bit, and 20 to 26 hours i get in my general usage. Not great at all, maybe is my battery i can't say that all will be like this, buy this is my 1020:).

According to what you wrote I suggest you to go for the 1520 since that phone will probably fit your needs and preferences best. Especially battery backup on the 1520 is impressive and the 20mp camera is superb.

Hello Friends ive Purchased lumia 1020 last 5months some times its getting switch off after clicking the power button its switching on over all from my view its an superb mobile.It is an expensive phone but the clarity of Camera and Video superb.Once I visit in a marriage there was no videographer so I took recording from my lumia 1020 it was really good Hd clarity so according to my suggestion overall rating 10 out of 10.

That depends of what you want from your camera, but if you like the huge 1520 i'd say buy it, better battery, faster camera (though, not that great as 1020, is good enough and way better then manny others). And if you stand that size just go for it. I just can't stand that hudge thing. I'd say 1020 is enough for me.

Of u want the best camera ever on a smartphone,grab the 1020 blindly. But it would be slight (only tiny bit) slower than 930 n 1520. U want big fhd gorgeous display with a mammoth of a battery and a SD card expansion and wireless charging with a pretty good camera and the TRADEMARK NOKIA DESIGN,grab the 1520 ..Its photos are really great and way better than GS5,iPhone 6,6 plus,Note 3,HTC but 1020 obviously... And if u want the same package in a compact manner with the sacrifice of a SD card,Glance,Double tap to wake and Wireless charging but with the addition of metal,go for 930.... 32Gigs of Non expandable memory is quite a lot and u will never fall short of it... My 1020 n 920 both have 32 gigs of storage space but I never fell short...it enough actually But among the 3 my bet would be the 1520 ! It's a complete phone.... But I love my 1020 and that 6" is too big for me...for me 4.5 is the perfect screw size... Hope I helped

Thanks for the reply brother. I will also never ever sell off my 920 and 1020 . NEVER. 920 upped the Mobile Photography game considerably and still gets the best and fastest low light photos even when compared to 1020 and also that design that speaker that WC that LCD (am a LCD fan u know ) puts a smile everytime on my face . And the 1020 ? King of the hill of Photography ! Although I don't even like AMOLED but the Screen blows other 720p amoleds away and also that Hump ! Am proud of that hump that matte finish and that XENON FLASH shows everytime that Dual LEDs are kids ! Just wish it was a bit faster in opening the Lumia Camera and saving photos had a SD card slot like 808 ! Proud to own the most unique pieces of mobile device's world !

In camera department u are right...but 1020 has ois that is very good for low light images and hand shake....thou I prefer the lumiw 1020 pics as its adds color to pics...where 808 shoots more natural one. I own both phones...but as symbian is shut and os is a bit laggy and buggi compared to windows os. For me still symbian is the best os till date....I find android a heavy copy of symbian....if today day to had a choice I would use lumia 1020 . thou I will never sell my 808 PV and lumia 1020...they both are master pieces.

Battery is pretty good, comparable with the Lumia 720. If you are satisfied with the battery backup of the 720 I think you will also be about the 1020's battery. Of course when you'll use the camera very much, the battery drains quickly.

I will come easily for general usage but if you use phone for more gaming & flash light photos it will not come. Phone has inbuilt features like battery saver, auto brightness control, Wifi sensor, Data sensor, control on back ground running apps etc.. Not required any 3rd party applications.

~MY THOUGHTS WINDOWS PHONE 8.1~ Having using using Microsoft ecosystem since last May on my secondary NL720 device. Although it has some cons. but overall configuration of OS is really sleek and stylish. It will take a while for familiar. No doubt Microsoft done a superb job to established its mobile OS to give customers another option in very competitive smartphone market where Android is the king.The good which i like is u can control your background running apps, in result of this OS battery last a long, although live tiles are also a unique idea to stay updated but tiles updates info only for some period of the day. MAIN CONS:- 1. SETTINGS: 1st major cons. of this OS is its settings menu which is really confusing it should be determined in a different category wise tabs or groups for easy and user friendly access. But Microsoft throw all controling components of OS and settings here and there. Suppose if you are looking for hard reset option or mobile data option or even you want to copy your contacts from sim to phone then it will definitely make you annoy to find all this in emergency. 2. CONTACTS: If you store two different numbers with same name in your contact list and u want to make call one of them well no you press one name and it will automatically make call without showing number which is obviously irritating. Even if you want to copy your contacts from sim to phone then its really hard to find where the hell this option us exist specialy if u r new user even it took 2 to 3 days for me to find out this which is located in people hub option. Finally whenever u want to store or create any new contact it didn't display the storage location like sim, email or phone. 3. ACTON CENTRE TOGGLES: In action centre there is only 6 toggles u can add it should have more option for new toggles to add specialy heavily used mobile data option which didn't exist in action centre. Above all cons are only my thoughts and observation and they are the minor issues which will definatly solve in near future updates. APPS GAP:- Most of commonly used apps are there in store but majority of those apps are still in beta phase and functionality wise they are 2 years behind specialy social apps (like FB, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram,Viber etc) then Google and Apple apps library. THE MOST concerning thing is that windows phone didn't have any Google & Apple apps in its store . Which is really sad and main problem for its downfall.Majority of the customers in globe are using google apps to meet their daily demands specialy google maps for navigation and entertaining youtube app . Although Here maps are good option but this application have some issues in some regions like in my country Pakistan . Microsoft should sort out what matter they have had with Google on urgent basis to brings there apps in WP store. If it happens then it will be a huge bonus for this OS . Even Google and Apple have each other apps in their respective stores including Microsoft apps as well, then why windows phone dont have all this stuff in its store . Microsoft become so lazy to sort out these issues with other vendors otherwise they will lose the battle and majority of their customers will shift to other OS.Even i am also shifted to Andriod although i like windowsphone so much and functionality and smoothness wise i rated it above on andriod and iOS. These are the genuine issues which i found during my experience and then describe here to share with all of you . Microsoft has to address all these matters on war footing basis to stay alive in competition. Thanks and Waiting For Your Thought's ..
