Have one for 8 years now, battery still holding half a day lol. Only one problem with it, the speaker isn't working, I need to call using hands free option. Wonder if we can't do an international signed petition to redo the phone, or at least re-use the design for another one. it was an awesome looking little phone.

After two perfect Panasonic phones (G600 & GD95) I purchased this phone, but in advanced version X701, but basicly it is the same phone, with some software upgrades and a litlle designed change... this phone was a dissapointing, not for performances or features, but for only one reason... flat cabel in it was so bad, that I have to change it in service 4 or 5 times for just two years... after last service, when flat cabel is broken again, I just crash this phone and put it on a garbage... and this was not a cheap phone...

I recently got this phone.Had an antivirus installed,oh good,the phone is dead for a month now.CAnt believe I died.I have consulted many mobile repairers.but none could.I love this phone,anyone help.When I charge the phone,it says ;'phone start up failed,contact the dealer' and whenever i start it using power button,it simply restarts writing panasonic logo and then restarts.Did anyone have this problem?Cant contact the dealer for I live too far.

Had it for 2.5 years and it still works ;-) It sunked once into barrel of dirty water, but after few days of drying it started to work again, onle after 2 months camera stopped to work, but after another 2 month suddenly did work again. Only 2 problems I have with this phone now: 1) It has tendency to suddenly go off, upon vibrating or some move/press. It seems to be problem of contact with battery, or smth similar. 2) Its joint is worn, so now sometimes i have to squeeze display in opened state, as black lines displays on it, until I sqeeze it in right way. But generally, I'm satisfied with it, as it is still in work, un like some other new mobiles, which tends to die after 1 year.

I swapped my old phone for this phone off a friend, and it just finished a 2 year plan with optus so it had buggy software and it had a virus on it. I had to do a hard reset and it cleared it right up, exelent phone with good screen and cool features and connectivity. It was a bit ahead of its time. I wanted my minigold game back that was on the orgional firmware so i downloaded new firmware and down loaded that but it scrambled the phone and all it showed was "panasonic" and it reset. Am looking for a new one now...

I've had this phone for years and i think its crap, The screen sometimes shows an orange tinge an u have to close the lid an re open it to fix, the battery life is terrible i cahrge it every night and it is extremly slow. Sorry, but i really don't like it.

Hi, I've got this phone and have purchased a 2GB minisd card for it but the phone cannot read it. When I insert the card it recognizes that a minisd card is inserted however when I try to access the card it says no minisd card inserted. Does anyone know why? Thanks

guess what? i'm from romania too and i know how to use this phone. i bought it in dec 2005 from connex (actual vodafone). i didn't need the warranty at all. the only bug is that sometimes it doesn't show the exact duration of the last call. the battery still holds for 2-3 days in the conditions of moderate using. the flip doesn't have any problems at all. i put a lot of programs on it. now i can see "avi" movies. it's very practical. microsoft office... how many phones have this? preinstalled i mean (not the illegal ones installed by the user). i use quickword to write my texts and after that i transfer them in the computer. i can write an essay on the phone at school and and print it at home. buy nokia 1110i and stop complaining.

i'm from the Philippines. was given this unit by a relative from the west. i'm really satisfied by this phone, in fact I couldn't part with it yet, although i'm currently having problems with it. my SMS messages keep on bouncing back and the 'handset' function of voice calls is mute, hence i could only call using the 'loudspeaker' function. it's almost two years already, i don't wanna retire it just yet. where can i have it fixed? anyone? thanks, nick

ok, it has lasted the grand test... if i could post a pic of what my phone looks like now, you people who knock this phone's performance would shudder, i can see it now... Every time i had a problem i knew what was wrong with it. its just a matter of common sense, this isnt a nokia or motorola, or saummy or ericsson, WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE EXPECT? .... Any how, it is working at maximum capacity, only problem i have now is my call logs freeze up at 55. hours and it doesnt register any missed calls after that, and if the audio for the mp3 player still sucks. but then, its not a top end phone, and it has been thru rain, extreme heat, sweat, i flung it in a wall once because the memory card refused to re format, it came back after that, my mom has sat on this thing and its been fine, i went clubbing and it slipped from its phone case hit the tiled dance floor and bounced about a foot high, reset itself and worked just fine... i don't know how someone broke the hinge... thats alot of crap, i had to bite my antennae to get the damn thing to move, but to breakthe hinge.... what is this guy? hulk on mobiles? Over all it has lasted a year, bumbs, scratches thru good signal and poor, thru rain and sun, with and without battery life, ---yup always gives that last lil bit for the emergency call--- i consider this a good investment, too bad they didn't make any decent follow ups on it that were worth it, and now i have to *shudder* go to the "slim phones" and get a motorola razr v31... i was gonna get a regular razr, but FIRST GENERATION STUFF ALWAYS SUCKS.... CHECK PLAYSTATIONS.... DON'T LET ANYONE SCARE YOU OUT OF BUYING THIS PHONE, NOT MANY PHONES HAVE WORD AND EXCEL DOCUMENTS... if you know how to use a tool, you will be a master

this phone is very bad, i know 4 persons with this phone and after about six months the earpiece goes bad, i mean you cant hear anything when you are on a call you have to use the speakerphone and after that then the speakerphone goes bad and then the screen. i liked this phone beacuse its a sleek symbian phone but it dont worth it after.

It's 1 month old and it is a great phone but only to people with optus sim cards and also it comes with usb and a memory card it is a fantastic phone but not the one for me

i think the maximum memory for x700 depends on firmware (*#0000#). mine haves jan 2005 so i'm using a 512 mb card without any problems (it even doesn't have a lag).

Hey SJ. Thanx for the reply. I dont have a Card reader but was transfering the Songs using a USB Cable (Panasonic SW) but the files were gettin converted on its own from MP3 to WAV. The Ogg Play option looks good. Will try it and it should hopefully work. If not will come back again :). But Thanx a ton once again.

Reply to Ronnie I read your enquiry about putting mp3's onto the phone. If your using a miniSD card the best way is to put the songs in through a card reader, you should have a miniSD to SD card adapter. Card readers are very cheap to buy and can be plugged into your computer through USB. I think this is the best approach if you want to put mp3's on your phone and keep them in mp3 format. OR u can install a program such as ogg play which can be downloaded for free. And convert all your mp3's to ogg format using an audio converter and put it into the phone via usb cable (panasonic software)

Hi, Whenever I download any MP3 to my Phone using the Panasonic X700 PC Software Suit, it automatically converts them to WMA. Can anyone please advise how can I keep them as MP3. It is very annoying as none of my MP3 Players recognise the files and I have to end up using real where I cant have a playlist.

I have had two of these phones, as the first one died within three months. Just refused to turn on one day. This phone looks good and has great features, that's all the good I can say about it. However, it's disappointing in a number of ways: * it eats batteries alive, 2 days max with light use on one charge * it crashes often, losing the network until it's restarted * it takes ~30 seconds to power up * menu and contacts navigation is excruciatingly slow. I regret buying this phone.

I've had many, many phones in my time. Yes, the X700 is on the slow side, only a VGA camera, no MP3/radio and the accompanying software isn't great. But it is a Symbian phone in a good size, stylish package. Something keeps me using this phone when I should have traded up.... again.

Best phone i ever had.I have it for a year and still can't get enough of it.Now i have mp3, ogg,random ringing tone(ogg only), opera browser,and best of all a .avi player(divx,xvid,with mp3 sound)in full screen mode. Is the best phone ever.By the way don't let the charger connected all the night because there is a fault in the phone:after finishing the charge the charger sucks the battery.

My Panasonic X700 review (after a month of use): The Good: One of the few Symbian OS clamshell phones available. The S60 OS allows you to run game emulators like goboy (game boy), vnes (NES), picodrive (Genesis), eeMame (Arcade), frodo (Commodore), etc. as well as utilities, play MP3's, videos, etc. All of these run fine on this phone (I tried them all). It's a nice looking phone with a nice bright 2.2" screen, has a camera (VGA), video and sound recorder. Comes with real-one player. Good reception. The Bad: Overall quality/refinement is not as good as Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, etc. A lot of things like the VGA camera, battery life, phone volume, keypad, mechanical feel, processor speed are "marginal", not great. The battery will last a day even with lots of use, but no more. People who complain about their battery not lasting the day don't have the phone configured right (there are lots of things such as the screen and application settings that effect battery life). If you charge it every night you'll be fine. Overall: If you want a Symbian based clamshell phone for a decent price this is a good choice. Just don't expect Samsung/Nokia level quality and refinement. I'll stick with this until the Samsung Z600 is available and at a decent price...

Nice phone! supports minisd, i installed a 256mB card and downloaded lots of tones, themes, games, images, 3g videos, documents like ms word, excel, even ppoint. Works great with 3g converter programs. Very clear display, no prob for me reg accessories & batteries here in the philippines, love this phone! :)

Worst celphone i've ever used! Just used it for 5months and it all went off. Everytime i used it for text messaging the screen just goes on and off, message sending failed. Can't recieve calls anymore, no volumes. This phone really gave me a terrible headache. Spend so much just to have this phone fix but nothing happened. I just hope the Panasonic Co. will not produce this kind of celphone anymore or they should produce good qualities of celphones.

I have had my Panasonic X700 approx six months. Very disappointed with it. The battery goes flat after 30 hours even when I havent even used the phone at all. I have also had problems with the volume. Just want to throw it away. Fairly slow to respond. Now have heard from friends with a Panasonic phone that they have similar problems. Definitely don't recommend.

It is a good phone, you get many features at a low price. If you want mp3 and wma player, try using WMAPlus! It uses it`s own decoders, so mp3 and wma will work for sure, I am now listening to music. :) The battery isn`t that good though, if you listen on mp3 and play some movies using SmartMovie, it will last 16 hours maximum. BTW, you can even play some n-gage games on it, if you know how to get them working. :P

My old X700 is very awful, for a month, it had a very short battery life, (72 hours average) I sent it to Panasonic and I think the phone is running worse. It now has about 30 hours battery, the phone freezes when you try to connect it to USB. Phone is so slow, even to start charging from power off.

I have this phone and have to say that it has to be the worse phone I have every brought. this handset is the 3rd I have had replaced, 1st time the memorie went and I lost all my contacts and everything else. then it started going all wild on me and had to be replaced (screen flickering, lines everywhere, pics distorted etc). and the 3rd time it just went to phone heaven ( or hell) I would have to say that I would not recommend this phone to anyone.

But i heard a lot many complaints on the phone... the phone is not very user friendly... it is often habged and very slow in performance... it has a very frequent software problems.. te main thing here is a complaint. some comments back i heard a person say that they want their images to open up quicker, heres a suggestion (i have used it b4) when you open your gallery and it says opening files you close the flip of the phone .. [if you know what i mean] you make it so that the external display is displayed. then you open it again when the keypad lights have blanked out

I had the x700 since Dec.05 and it has been great without mp3. I just use the usb to convert mp3 to wav it play those well. Some programms may slow down the phone so i deleted the one I had downloaded leaving only the FIVN player. I have never installed a game and I will never some have viruses.

Great phone, memory card (mini sd) holds heaps & the the digital VGA camera is OK!!! the video capture is horrible & theres not many camera/video effects my favourite feature was the high senstivity flash works great the camera is nothing compared to the new panasonic VS models. The only main feature this phone doesnt have is an MP3 player or 16 million colours on screen only Becos its old, afterall this is a hi powered smart phone and is good coming from early 2004, also this fone looks beautiful & has a large screen display I RECOMEND IT!!!

I bought this phone at xmas time and have had on going problems.It freezes during typing sms and pressing the 0 button.Also it just randoming freezes and won't turn on at all. I took it to Optus World and asked if they could check if it was the battery because i read on another forum same thing and the guy had a faulty battery.Optus World said no , the phone has to be sent away the cost $49.95 and i will get that back if they determine that it hasn't been dropped. Well my friends mum done that and she never dropped her phone but they said it had been dropped and wanted over $200 to fix it. The phone hasn't been dropped so i am not sure what to do , any one else have a similar problem and solved it?

I had this phone til I lost it. I never really appreciated it until it was gone... Sure i hated the fact that whenever i dropped it i had to reset it, or the fact that there was never enough memory, or the handset was too big, or the ringtones were gay. Well, i'm very pleased with it. For those who want to have a mp3 player, i say that it is not worth it. I have tried to found and i did not succed. instead of mp3 i use .OGC, and a player on my telefon with ogc support and works better than mp3. You will need a mp3 to ogc convertor but it's no problem. A question I have: When I flip it, open it, (when i say that i open it not that i power it) is any software that i could set so I could hear sound? Hope you understand me

I have an X700 and it's by far the worst phone I've ever had. I've owned it since May 2005 and it's now broken in January of 2006. First to go was the vibration feature. Now it only vibrates once in a week or so of full use. And then last night the screen decides to break and 1/4 of my screen is now black ink. No, I didnt smash it! I dont have a clue what made the screen do what it did but it's wrecked now after not even a year of use. Oh yeah, and the dictionary has very limited storage capacity for new words and after putting in about 8 new words it will start over-writing the new words shortly after. I have never ever had a problem with any of my Nokias and now I think they have a good flip phone - which is the only reason I bought the X700. For those also with the phone, I think your battery gets low really quickly because you aren't quitting the applications. For some reason having them open will drain the battery quicker. Hold down the menu button to see whats open and then close them properly.

I how this cell now for month and is great. all works fine. Firt there was some problem with battery life but after a week of usage it holds now 3-4 days. It depends of usage. Also this is only symciam clamshell, light and has all features. Camera is not 1 Mpx but who need this. if you wanna shoot pic buy digital camera. By default it doesnt support mp3 but the is a lot of symbian appz to add support. And great thing is that with ths phone you have option to setup speed of bluetooth.

This is an odd one! I don't own an X700, but I work in a phone shop and every single day we have customers coming in and telling us that their X700 is turning itself off. The strangest part about it is that it only happens when they enter our city. X700 working perfectly, but when they get signal from our local tower their phone suddenly stops working!! The is an amazing phone, there is no doubt about that. Features are great and the the screen is nice a large. Basically if you love Nokia menues you will love the ease of use of this handset. Got mine on Optus Pre Paid for only $159! Thats so cheap for this type of phone. This will sound stupid but the best feature of this handset is the flip. It Opens right out giving easy access. Battery not so good but I can live with it. Get one if you can.

I recently downloaded "Oggplay" for this phone and installed it via bluetooth. it works fine to play .ogg files instead of mp3 the ogg files also take up less space. I converted a mp3 file to ogg with "Goldwave" and then sent it to my phone. Now i can set any .ogg file as my ringtone. Works super!

I just bought this fone from aus post in an optus pre-paid pack and YES IT DOES COME WITH CABLE AND MINI SD CARD have found it to be such an awsome phone, there is so many features it is basically a phone/pda...absolutly love it!!!! highly reccomend especially for only $159 on pre-paid it is soooo worth it, has all the features of a really expensive phone actually maybe even more!!!!

For all you panasonic X700 users out there who think that this phone's battery runs out too fast. Think about it if you wanna save your battery turn off the external display becoz the external display uses more nearly half the battery and if you turn it off with 1 charge the phone will last u about 4-5 days, I understand it might look dumb but if u wanna save your phone's battery just turn off the external display. Its your choice!!!!

Yes this fone does come with a mini SD card 16MB and i'm not so sure about the adaptor but i think it does come with it. If u want to be sure why don't u go to the shop were u r planning to buy it and have them show u the box of the X700 then u can see for ur self if it cames with the SD card and it's adaptor OR simply call up the shop and ask them Hope this helps

I got one at Auspost and i took it back afew days later . the camera on the phone is really bad quality and so are the videos you can take with it . the sound if you play music files on it is really bad due to only one rubbish speaker on it, if you turn the volume to the hioghest setting the sound crackles and is distorted . the outside screen is rubbish to you cant change the brightness . and also when connecting the software to a computer it looks like it was written by some highschool student and ive had alot of trouble connecting the the phone to a computer , having to reset the phone on a number of times . and now that i took the phone back i tried to uninstall it but it wont go ill have to format my computer to get rid of it . thats why the phone is so cheap and it is also not locked i know because i tried my vodaphone sim in it and it worked .You get what you pay for , thats why they are so cheap . Im going back to nokia , much more stable and reliable .

reply to queensland australia....wow...i'm all the way in barbados west indies, but i may be able to help you with one thing... since i torture my X700...and it works everytime... are ypu using the usb cable that comes with the phone? because if you are, you can be linked to the pc and chrging the phone at the same time, also, if you are using the software that comes with the phone, and windows millenium, 2000 or even higher, you'll get no problems with the usb link, i haven't tried the bluetooth or Irda yet, but eventually i will. Now if someone could help me with this one, HOW IN SAM-HILL DO YOU GET THIS PHONE TO KEEP UPLOADED THEMES ACTIVE AFTER IT GETS TURNED OFF?

Yah, i just got this phone off ebay for like 160 cad. Its great i had the battery issue for like the first day but i used it like crazy. Since then no issues. The OS isn't to slow sometimes it lags but generally i have no issues at all. Also the ogg player is a dream, it plays them loud and clear and i even found some sound editing progs that let me cut my mp3s then extract them ogg. It's too easy, reception is great and speakerphone is decent if you don't have it on full. I'd say a good buy. Cheers

ok... i use viking mp3 player, it freezes the system if the files are too big... to turn off the shutter sound you have to use photo base to take the pic, and mine lasts 2 days with serious talk time without charging the battery... plus i'm always playing bubble headed boy

Panasonic says its known issue in the read me file about the Bluetooth connection. Is there any work around? has any one managed to connect to PC Software Suite via Bluetooth? Known issues ============ � Bluetooth Connection Error: When connecting Panasonic X700 to your PC (running windows 98 SE, windows ME, windows 2000 and windows XP) via Bluetooth, after accepting connection from PC by pressing "yes" on the phone, the PC gives an error message stating "The remote device closed the connection, connection failed: The remote device closed the connection". The seconds later, the connection completes successfully. This is in a dialog box that has "My Bluetooth Places" as a title and a red "X" in the middle. Click on OK button of the error message box and ignore the error.

Revied Update. USB Connection for X700 PC Software Suite I have discovered that Windows XP Firewall automatically turns itself on and blocks mRouter (even though I use another Firewall and have XP Firewall turned off) This may be useful for Petko's post. If you are using XP make sure mRouterRuntime is enabled in the XP Firewall under Exceptions. To use the X700 PC Software Suite I now disable my other firewall. Now I have PC Suite Working and am able to transfer ANY file to the phone and vice versa (but I still keep my fingers crossed everytime I connect) My wish - That Panasonic had suggested I check my firewall settings. Panasonic X700 now already can support the wma format and also can set as ringtone....the sound quality is best and great same like .ogg format, but wma sound is more loud than ogg file and more "bass" than other format.... If u are interest, you can find the software call "WMA Plus" version 1.01 to install in your smart phone and use it format. (You can find at any website is free download for symbian application) In my suggestion, this Panasonic x700 is not suitable for use mp3 format because the sound quality for mp3 is bad if compare with ogg and wma format....

USB connection fails trying to use PC Software Suite supplied with phone. Reinstalled software - same problem "connected" then "not connected" before I can do anything. Tried it on my Laptop and the laptop crashed. Phone also switches off or crashes Phoned Panasonic - Response was "Cannot help with your PC" NOTE: Leaftet included states "This phone is guaranteed to work only with certified applications obtained legally." (Installing from a CD is considered downloading) ....... Probably will not bother buying a bluetooth headset or card for computer or Infrared (will they work ?) Ejecting mini SD card via phone resulted in Voice Commands prompting me with "Say a command" instead of ejecting mini SD card. Very Slow - Poor selection of ringtones - 2 screen savers (Time and Date) 2 camera settings - No lense cover. Poor video. Would have preferred more memory instead of silly frames and warp feature for photos. Mini SD card is handy (if you have a SD card reader of course) Have installed FREE themes from this site - so far all have worked and are better than at what is available at Panansonic's website. Overall it's a phone - makes and receives phone calls and MMS - nevertheless it is a "Smart Phone" and shipped with software/cables that I have found do not work. No problems with battery life.

This phone does what it suppose to and nothing more. Some Series 60 software doesn't run on it but then again I don't use it as a computer only for reading & editing word & excel documents. Battery life you'll find to be around the 50-60 hour mark with about 30mins of calls. Once you start using the games, photo, videoing etc. this time drops off markedly. On issue of the sound, this phone rings louder than anything I've had before with excellent reception. I don't know why others having problems with this & voice dialing (excellent) but that's life. In comparison with the O2 mini, well there is no comparison, the mini is a computer in pda form however it suffers mildly with sound & reception quality. The difference in price is justified but it totally depends on what you need. I needed a lighter phone that I could see the keys in the daylight. With the pdas you can't see keys on the screen clearly in the sun. As to any other comparison with other flip phones, I can't tell you but there's not that many out there than can do what this phone can eg. motorolas maybe except the mpx220. Goodluck it's going to be your decision but I'm happy with mine.

I bought my Panasonic X700 for a price of US$250 (UNLOCKED) in a duty free shop. For the CLASS of 200-300 US$ Unlocked 2.5G cellphones (as of Oct 2005), this phone is the best. However, for the 480x640 pixel, this not the best so far. Sharp phones are far better. MP3 is also not native feature.

I think this is a fantastic phone. The keypad is a good size for my fat fingers and the screen is easy to read. The Bluetooth is heaps handy too. I don't know what this bloke named Sean below is going on about ...I reckon the sound quality is heaps good and I wish other phone makers would get advice from Panasonic. It is not a loud-ringer, probably 7-8, but it always depends on the ringtone - it should be loud. And, well, this phone can do everything. I've got about 400MB of zipped programmes and applications for it, but one little problem - the software on the CD provided with the phone works only once on my PC and only after installation.

Reading all the posts there are clearly differing opinions on the X700 particularly battery life. I've used se P900&P910 up unitl last week I had an O2 Mini and so I decided to buy the X700. I wanted a small flip phone that was still capable of displaying word, excel & ppt docs. Battery life appears to be consistent across all the pda type phones. The O2 mini is a good example. Battery life is 8-10 hrs when using the pda and making phone calls frequently like all day. Leave it alone and don't touch it you'll get about 100 hrs +. It was the same with SE 900, use the pda and phone and I use to get 30-40 hours. The old analogy was for every minute of use you take 30 minutes of standby time away from whatever maximum the manufacturer has stated. This will include playing games, fiddling with your settings, using USB transfer, bluetooth etc. So for those of you who are getting 10-24 hours use out of the x700/x800 have a look at what you are doing on it. I used mine quite heavly over two days for data transfer and at least 30 minutes on calls and I still managed to get 30 hours out of it. On software - mine is x700GA17070006 06-29-2005. Apparently this is the latest. BTW the reception and sound quality beats the others handsdown. My two cents worth.

I'm not impressed. I was sold this as a �300 phone for just �105 total over 12 months. But think its worth more like �50! Yes its a nokia 6600 but that was reliable and this just isn't. The keypad is great, even has quick office so can quite easily type word documents on it, its a stylish smartphone with loads of cool features, but here are the drawbacks 1) Camera is awful - can't even work out who I've taken a picture off unless its a close up. 2) Video is so jerky it'll give you a headache watching it 3) Slow 4) It crashes at the most annoying times 5) Warning tones cannot be switched off, I've turned them off on every profile but it still beeps all the time! 6) The battery life is appauling. 1 day at best!!! It won't even last a weekend away without making any calls! I'd expect much better from a company like panasonic. Sum up - A nokia 6600 with more style but none of the reliability.

No, Bryan, 24 hours standby time is normal for this phone. You made a mistake, as most people on this forum, as you can see. Just wait till the problems with the spontaneous switching off begin. I had 12 phones, among it a Panasonic before. None was such a waste of money like this dysfunctional one. I will stay with reliable brands in future.

This phone is the worst phone I have ever owned - and I have had two panasonics previously that were good. This one reboots, locks up, drops signal and has shocking sound quality. It's away being repaired right now but I am not holding my breath. I don't think it is fixable without a faster CPU and updated software. To add to this the hinge is getting loose and the phone is 5 months old. A total piece of crap

What a terrible phone!!! Also mine frequently switches itself off and I can not be reached. Furthermore after the phone was charged the red charge light remains on and I have to reset the phone by taking the battery out. Often it hibernates and again I have to take the battery out. The battery lasts 24 hours, yahoo. A scam it is, this phone !!!!

The x700 is an overall amazing phone. It can smoothly play moveys if you install Mobial media player. you will have to pay for this program but it is well worth it. you can get it hear: You get both the software for your phone and the converter for your Cpu to make the files compatible. it fully supports the x700 and works better than all other players i have tested on this phone As for MP3s you are far better off using oggs. They are smaller and you will not notice the quality diffrence. you can get the best ogg player hear: it is compleatly free - and it will let you use songs as ring tones or allarms, it also has skins etc. hear is a quick link i just looked up to convert mp3s to oggs. (i cannot remember where i got the one i use) also if you goto : (the link is at the bottom of the page for the canculator) you can download a canculator that is much like the one on the old GD87 - far faster to use than the Nokia junk that comes on the phone. Controll freek is good also for operating win amp via bluetooth - but foget about the cpu controling feature. I hope i have helped a few peeps out ther. PS I know i cannot spell to save my life. The only let downs on the x700 are the VGA camara - 1.3 MP would be nice, and the fact it only has mono sound. The opperating systm can be a bit slow - but it is the smalist smart phone so that should be expected. Also th OS is made by Nokia so dont blame Panasonic.

My Panasonic x700 keeps going into hibernation mode and I keep on having to take the battery out and re-inserting just to get it going. It won't take calls and the screen just goes blank and this happens practically straight after powering up. Useless!!

I don't know which one of you tried using this phone, but i've got it month ago and there is no such a thing as "battery problem". For all the people that want to byu it and think that the battery is weak, it is not true. For me 4 full days is more than perfect. First 3 charging circles it really stands 1 day, but after that everything is OK. And I have 50 min. talking time, playing games and so on and so forth.

Hi, I've had this phone for a while and I've put up with the flaws because I've been really busy, and basically just cos I think it's real pretty! But I wanted to know if anyone has had problems with the phone switching itself off, and also problems with interruptions on the line during calls. I was going to send my phone off to Panasonic about these issues, but now I'm starting to worry that it might be something that I'm just gonna have to put up with. I'll be well annoyed if it is because I switched service providers just to get this phone, and the company I'm with now have been absolutely rubbish from day one. Hey tk =) Nokia 6260 memory can also be removed without turning off the phone. you need to remove the battery cover first then rotate or flip-open the metal insert for the card.

I had nokia 3650 and 3660 for 2 years.Now i`m tunned into X700.Honest, it looks great, it beats any clamshell Nokia has till now.Plus the menu moves a little bit faster then 6630, and it`s cheapper, looks more shiny.Unlike Nokia 6260, u can remove the Mini SD card without switchin` off the phone.This option is only available for 6680 up.To end it, the camera is acceptable.Face it, if you need high resolution pics, you`ll take it with a camera.

X700, i never face the problem that you say about the camera, and when i use camera in photobase,the speed of capture is fast no slower, same as the original camera in menu. U say slow when you capture photo in photobase right? I think is your phone or card memory problem n maybe your memory is nearly full......

Hi Sarah. If your main purpose is "texting and photos", i would say this phone will suite you. But if you're "so meticulous" about image quality or photo quality like that of a digital camera, then this is not for you. If you're an average camera user just to take a quick snapshot of something or just to capture a moment of a minor event, then this phone will do.

My main problem is battery life. despite a new battery and a repair, still around 24-36 if phone not used and 12 hours if one has 5-6 5 minute calls. I'm thinking of getting the x700 outrite but after reading all the posts am so confused. 50% are against the phone and the other 50% think its fine. The main use of my phone will be for texting and the occasional taking of photos. Keys easy to press? Photo quality good? I want pritty clear photos and dont want to have to hold my phone completely still to be able to get a half good image. Hi Panasonic Fan try to check on the users manual for the default lock code. usually its 0000 or 00000 or 1234 or 12345. ***BE CAREFUL in entering a lock code because it might further disable the phone after several FAILED ATTEMPTS. I would suggest you go to your nearest Panasonic shop or send Panasonic an email message for answer on your problem. Its also helpful to consult the user's guide or manual that came with the package. I've had the Nokia 6600 and I loved it.I hoped to move onto the X700 as it was a Symbian Series 60 Smartphone just like the 6600, but most people have been bad mouthing it. What battery live do you guys get out of this phone? On pure standby, absolute no touch, without bluetooth or anything, the battery lasts 36 hours. I I have 3 to 5 4 minutes phone calls, it will last 12-18 hours. For me as minimal user it means charging EVERY night. The battery was replaced but that did not make a difference. I think this phone is crap.

Hi guys! I think this forum is not just meant for all positive feedback of this phone. I admit I made a mistake on the video timing of 10sec. After I check up on my phone, yes, it has unlimited timing depends on memory size. But, the sound for MP3/Ogg files really sucks big time. If you guys think listening to songs @ the volume setting of 50% or less , then I have nothing to say. But I think above 50% volume, the speaker sounds rusty especially the bass motion of the songs. Morever, to use this phone to listen to mp3/ogg files, 50% or less for volume is definitely not enough as the sounds are already very soft. Last of all, if you compared the performance of this phone to nokia 7610/6670 in-terms of Smartmovie performance, it shows that this phone's media performance don't live up to the Smartphone expectation. My verdict: Don't buy this phone if you are looking for media capability smartphone in-terms of playing mp3/ogg or avi files by Smartmovie.

X700 needs to install 3rd party MP3 player software, Ultra MP3 & MP3 Player etc... to play MP3 songs. However, the sound sucks due to the speaker quality is bad. I'm still deciding whether I can open up the casing & check whether I can modified the speaker from one of the Sony Errisson K700i. As playing movies, it sucks too! For those fast moving scene, the graphic looks lagging....I'm using SMARTMOVIE ver2.44 to play movies clips. I also install & run a benchmarking test software called SPMark04, between Nokia 6670, 7610 & X700. You know what, X700 got the lowest score for the 3D graphical performance. The phone's process speed is also slower than the Nokia 6670 & 7610. Every specs on the benchmark test lose out to the 6670 & 7610 except for the display color. So, in Summary, the overall performance SUCKS!!! I'm planning to change to another phone. This time, will be more careful in selection among those phone who claim themselves as smartphone. Very very bad experience!

Guys, your opinion please on the battery life. Mine has 36 hours on full charge only on standby and 24 hours life on moderate use. I have set screen already to less than 50% brightness and the shop exchanged the battery. Is it the phone??

Oh ya... one more question. If sumone calls, isit true that the blacklight for the sub-display onli blinks for like onli a few times n then stop blinkin thou the fone is still in ringing mode? e X700, about the FS caller i also ever install this application in X700, it can succeed to use and the photo image will be full display in internal screen when incoming call ( this is only succeed when you open the flip!)and when you close the flip the external screen is can't display any photo when incoming call! I think the reason is the image size are too large and can't display in external screen because the size image X700 is limited in external screen and this software is only suitable for Tri-band phone (direct phone)same like nokia phone and no suitable for flip phone. About the transfer movie u can use wireless connection (Ir or BT) Or original cable to transfer movie to your phone .In my suggestion, more easily if you use the data cable to transfer the movie to ur phone because when you transfer any format movie in your PC (such as MPEG4,WMV,AVI) to your phone it will automatic change and convert suitable format to your phone such as 3gp format for Real One Player. If you want transfer the smart movie format u may install this app. first and must convert the movie in your PC first, the format for smart movie is AVI. and this format is more clear and great if compare with 3gp. You can know and get more explanation about smart movie converted at (chinese forum) and get the registered ver. V1.22 is compatible with X700 but u need the crack version...... How to install: 1. Transfer the file to ur Phone using BT / X700 PC suite 2. a. Using PC suite, just double the file and and installation procedure will appear. b. Using the phone, Locate the file using file manager of the phone ( located in "tools folder" then select the file. Installation procedure will also appear. Note: when tranfering MP3 using X700 PC suite. Deactivate the convertion " On X700 PC suite, go to control panel then file converter then select none. e X700, what r the function in the chinese star application? I think is given your phone to support chinese language and view chinese word only in SmS right? For e X700, u can try to install the chinese star application after u upgrade the software on your phone because after i upgrade ver. i never try to use this software again so, i cant give n comform any opinion for u .before u try i suggest you install Anti-virus first as more safely. now i during use the 512mb for mini sd, no any problem for me when use 512mb as my memory. if u still have problem about mini sd card, u can try again after u upgrade the ver.

I trying install the Ultra Mp3 in my phone and the version suitable for pan X700 is only ver. 1.22 and the new ver. 1.40, When i install the ver 1.33 n try to open in my phone is hang( i think this ver. only is for N 7610)n my advise please use the ver.1.22 n 1.40 if you want to use mp3 file,n of course the new ver. 1.40 is better than ver. 1.22 include the skin. n i also try to install the mp3 player n try to open the mp3 file, the soud quality is very loud and bad if compare with Ultra mp3 n i suggest to use Ultra mp3 better u use mp3 player. In my opinion, all sound format(True tone) such as AMR,RM,MMF,XMF,WAV,MP3,OGG on this phone the better sound quality still is OGG format ,this format is great and good if compare with other format in this phone n also can use to set as ring tone,message tone,alarm tone....etc (if u don't trust u can try to use this format n try to compare with other format). For e X700, the higher mini sd card in this phone is support 512mb, n 1gb is coming soon, if no any problem i think 1gb is also support. I is already upgrade my phone version n now i got full language for Chinese n English only (this is ready enough for me). If u want get the full chinese language u must go to panasonic service centre n upgrade at here. n please don't install the chinese ver. at the forumhit.com because after i install chinese ver. on forumhit.com my phone language is hang when i create message.(i think this ver. is only suitable for nokia phone).

my problem (and I saw that more posting deal with this) is that the battery won't last 2 days on standby (real standby, so no bluetooth on ,nothing). Worse: like someone wrote wfrom the US and the UK, it won't connect its WAP or PXT to the New Zealand Vodafone network. Vodafone tried it themselves: does not work. My opinion: avoid this phone.

i have had my x700 just 2 months, already the battery dont last 2 days on standby, sometimes only lasting 12hours. next problem is when texting it stops and turns off or tells you to shut down some applications, what are they, when you are texting, and most of the time when texting it puts your message in the drafts folder, why? i find you have to turn the phone right off then on again so that it enables you to send your texts again, but this only works for a while before it seizes up again. And panasonic have miss lead people that the small screen on the front shows caller i.d. of a picture of the person thats calling you but its very small a quarter of the actual screen itselfs. Also when you turn the phone on everytime it takes along while to kinda load up, i thought this was beacause of the mini sd card, but its no different when the card is removed, it still starts slow. i rate this phone 4 out of ten.

GPRS on the X700 is also not fully (no graphic images) compatible with the T-Mobile network in the uk either so that's Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile. So that's 3 out of 3. I'm not going to try Orange...

Still got the phone as the GX30 is no longer available where I got the X700. Anyway, thought I'd try an O2 pay as you gosimpack. GPRS doesn't work on this at all! Bottom line is is that this phone should not be available in the UK unless it is compatible with at least ONE of the major networks here. I'll try a T-Mobile sim card next...

kelvin, x800 is x700 in xchangeable covers. All performance in x700 is what it has in x800,no difference. panasonic should start producing 256k display at least for smartfone if want to catch up smartfone market by nokia & samsung who start making 256k smartfone.

khairi, u can hv psiloc vision & fs caller for caller id. With psiloc vision can run movies while calling in or out. Fscaller can get at for full 3gp converter get at ,dl the addons for the serial number.

I'll be taking my Panasonic X700back and swapping it for a Sharp GX30. I have only had it a week and a couple of things really annoy me about it. WAP browsing is rubbish. I have it on Vodafone in the UK and I cannot get graphical images. That means that most WAP pages will not work for me. I have to stick to text base web pages like the BBC to get any useful info. Vodafone and Panasonic have not been able to solve this. Call quality. Somebody else mentioned on here that during a call it sounds like the phone is muting the other person randomly. I thought it was just me but it seems to be a design fault. My advice is stay away from this phone as it seems that it has been tested enough before being shipped. Anybody got any problems withthe Sharp GX30 before I get that phone?

kelvin , try to open and closed battery. It might be corrupted file in chn apps. to restore factory setting = menu,settings,settings,phone,general,orig phone settings. If u can go to menu, hv sysman,task manager,taskman, memory monitor = kill all the task & server that running. If u hv fileman/fexplorer , delete chnstart system file where in c:system\chnstart or e:system\chnstart khairi , acc format does not supported in x700, u have to find the acc controller for support. u only need oggplay for musics, some apps u have to buy to get the code, to get the oggplay & converter, and free cracks apps URL please brwose page 1 2 3 4 , in my comments . Any camcorder/photo application using x700 camera & video will not works. It works for nokia camera & video only.

kelvin, there is no wav player inside, its a wav sound recorder where u record and play, the only things playing wav is in ringtones section, there is wav player in ReadM software.

kelvin & benz Instead fexplorer, use Fileman is better. u can copy paste send move rename every file in ur x700 to sd, phone memory and pc, ...in site search type fileman. download v1.01 s60. benz..ive 4 antivirus app,but i dont install it in the fone,dont need it, just taking up memory. sym virus not like windows ,that can moved easily to any program,it can ,its one software, and symbian virus u can count by finger not so many.

lulu. u cant open .sis in pc, .sis must send to x700 to install . to convert mp3 to ogg in Freerip, in Tools ,choose convert single audio file ,find the .mp3 filename ,then convert . after complete send the .ogg to x700 make sure u have install oggplay 1.6.3 in the phone. there u go hear the great music. its best when u convert set volume 600 & 128 bitrate

ronald , pc suite not really important actually, i never used cable data unless to send big file like .ogg music format, which is at least 3 mb .u can send all those .sis file manually through IR or BT ,Just right click on the .sis file in the pc then send it to x700. So if the x700 can comunicate to pc via bt or ir theres no urgent to have the pc suite. but if u inssist to have the pc suite ,sorry bout the OPM broken link, the correct link is here .download v 2.0.5. Yep its the only alternative symbian pc suite available in internet. It`s impossible to upload the x700 pc suite. As the installation settings need the cd rom to install. Just get the compatible IR or BT to x700 . U can send or received everything.

to David try to check the sofware that you have been installed ,there might be conflict/missing components file which might u delete/remove on unpurpose.try uninstall the soft . Or else u might open multiple applications that still running without closing it. It could make the fone slow and turn off for sudden. Use task manager for closing multiple application.

yes u can send the .sis file with IR or BT, it will received in inbox message. The .sis file is symbian installation format it stands for Symbian Installation System, u have to install in the phone not for the pc. the serial number code is only works for Nokia Symbian, mine also doesn`t work, there is code like *#92702689# in nokia stands for *#war0anty# means warranty number, cant use either in x700. since u`ve lost the pc suite,If u want x700 pc suite looks alike there is Oxygen Phone Manager u can dwnld free at

to lulu, for true sounds i`d suggest u to use ogg. ogg sounds twice better than mp3, & ogg save more space than mp3,& can set as ringtones,download oggplay 1.6.3 unstable MMF here ,use winzip to unzipped. You have to convert format from mp3 to ogg or cdplayer to ogg. for the free converter dwnld FreeRip at www.mgshareware.com . If u lost the cable data gonna take half an hour via IR to send a 2 - 6mb ogg song, but if u have bt dongle maybe 5 minutes to send an ogg song via bt. Id suggest find the cable data & pc suite. If u still cant find it then bt can do too, just free up ur phone memory to received file from bt, u got to use copy & paste Fexplorer manually to move received file in inbox messages to sd card. to Da^Boy ,while recording it is moving slow but while u play it its moving good isnt it, so dont worry bout recording.the recording & the sound is unlimited depends the memory left. Anybody knows why the video record of x700 is record 1 sec by 1 sec?? when recording looks really bad.. and the sound recording can extending the time for recording or the max limit is 1 min. Bought my X700 on 06/02/2005 during a roadshow in Malaysia at RM1500.00 (USD395). Package also comes with data cable besides the usual suspects. Got a Jay Chou latest CD and some other Panasonic promotional items foc. Thus far my only gripe in the battery performance of the phone. I found out that the phone needs recharging every other day but then again, I'm a heavy user utilizing most of the phone functions daily. From sms to PIM applications, camera to games not to mention browsing the web. So perhaps recharging once every other day is not too bad at all for this kind of power hungry phones.

You can't judge this phone unless you actually use it ! Overall, it's a great phone with features that you won't find in other smartphones. Symbian OS is always upgradable and has plenty of apps available over the internet. I dropped my 7610 last year on our driveway and it broke. I dropped my X700 with power on as I was getting into my car, nothing, not even a scratch ! Panasonic's durability is unmatched, maybe only by motorola. My wife has a 2 yr old X66 and she has dropped it probably more than 10x already, it never broke. That's one of the reasons I shifted to Panasonic, they're so damn hard to break ! I don't mean to enter it into a dropping contest, but a phone's quality can be confirmed by it's durability. Panasonic phones were made to last. I gave my old GD92 to my daughter and it still works perfectly. I wonder who will inherit my X700 2 years from now ?

i got one this week. As a die hard Panasonic fan, i have struggled with this a bit cos it doesn't work like other panasonics. On the whole it is very very good. I like it a lot. But i have two questions about the case screen, and i can't find anything in the book. 1. Can you change the wallpaper on the case screen (if it can be used as viewfinder, i should be able to put a photo on it) 2. How do you get the case screen to stay on the analouge clock. Basically all 6600,7610,6260,6670 app are compatible for x700 as it use the same version 7.0 to mobilex , yes its a streaming AVEC fm radio,need gprs to stream. cant really put fm radio software where phone has no radio receiver & transmitter in it. im now looking for the motorola bluetooth radio, its a stereo headset radio via bt.have to buy it around 100 us.

i been using 3 months now and i put lot of good symbian software in it , making it the best powerfull gadget for everything i need. im using the 512mb mini sd and i have dozens symbian s60 application ..some of my software: 1.oxford dictionary :around 500 000 english words . 2.Read M/pdf+: for reading books txt & pdf file. 3.Ogg player mp3 player wav player. Ive 100+ ogg song.. which i found ogg sounds better than mp3. 4.talks60: this is the best application, this is the only application i bought,it read all my txt and pdf books and my sms talking in english .I could relax driving and it read all my story books and incoming sms. 5.dozens java games/symbian games 6.answering machine: usefull if im not around, and it record ppl message, no more voicemail thing. 7.call recording :record automatically ur conversation when calling and can set as ringtone if u want 8.Anti mosquito: usefull to keep away the mosquito. 9.Fm Radio 10.realone/smartmovie/helix: to play avi mpeg4 3gb etc 11.task manager/file manager: to compress memory and to kill hidden task. 12.fax trasfer via bt/ir. 13.world traveller: to see time/currency in the world 14.compass & gps application 15.Celltrack: to see the battery power 16.Fs caller: make the whole screen whatever photo i put when ppl calling with the id 17.anti virus: caribe is the main virus to keep away 18.agile lie detector: to show if the ppl tells lie or not 19.handy photosafe/media saf: safe ur private picture,movie , data with password 20.irremote: i use this for my remote tv, but must in closer distance 21.blacklist: could block any phone number to busy line 22.sms machine: usefull for reject spam sms and auto reply 23.talks60: this is the best application, this is the only application i bought,it read all my txt and pdf books and my sms talking in english .I could relax driving and it read all my story books and incoming sms. 24.icq mess,opera browser. 25.caricature/facewave : app for picture editing and whole lots more i coukd write here, if u want someof them write me email

thanks, I've already had a look around, specially on ebay, found one for �160 (without VAT and shipping costs), it's just that i'd feel more comfortable buyin from a shop, but if i have to, i'll just end up getting one from the internet. I was considering the nokia 6630, but it's got 3G capabilities, while i've got a 2g sim card, and i dont really wanna get a new sim card, so i guess it'll be the x700 in the end.

I found you can get the X700 for around �203 including shipping from two sources in the US that will ship internationally. One is a site named www.plemix.com, the other is on ebay from no-air-time (just search for "Panasonic X700"). Have bought two phones from Plemix before. no-air-time seems to be a legit seller with a online shop at Hope this helps.

Oh.. that's good to hear we can use PC's broadband over phone's bluetooth. I might just get the X700. I believe the X701 was made for Vodafone in UK, and thought it was out already. I've been told that the video bitrate at which you can playback video smoothly on the X700 is 100kb which is probably 15fps. I wonder whether smartmovie player can do better on the X700.

there is a way of using your computer boradband with the phone, all you have to do is create a new access point in your connections setting, call it bluetooth dsl or something, set it as gprs, set the apn as the name of your computers bluetooth name, and leave all the other settings blank. then all you need to do is create the link between the phone and computer and there you have broadband on your phone. I've done it on my nokia 3650, and it works. btw, it's still not out in the UK :�#

s700 is not a smartphone, it doesnt have operating system,u cant add any new application, x700 is a smartphone it can use any symbian s60 application ..example like anti mosquito,english dictionary, compass,answering machine,fm and sw radio,dvd player,etc .there are hundreds good symbian app. maybe s700 better in display and camera but cant put new application,it can only store java games and mp3... .Overall x700 better than sony s700

I had been waiting for this phone to come out since they announced at Panasonic mobile that they were making it. I had the predecessor to it (the X70) and I was thoroughly pleased with that phone until my brother broke the charging capability. I like Pansasonic phones because they are durable and last for a long time because their technological advancementsm are always ahead of its time. I still miss the X70, probably because I am still getting used to this phone. But the capabilities are endless and awesome and I would recommend this phone to anybody that wants a good phone and doesn't intend to buy a new one too quickly. It's light, it's bright, and it's a good buy.

found oggplay has some bug in 1.51, after i restarted it cant be used anymore,got to uninstall it.yes mp3 3.02 cant be ringtones, but still louder compare to oggplay which has better sounds. overall ogg is better although it has little more space for file than mp3

If you install the ovcontroller you can not only use ogg files as ringtone or alarmsound but you can also play ogg files with the STANDARD mediaplayer. You don't need a extra player

I'm using the new oggplay 1.6.3 (beta) i have no problem turning volume up and down. Even with the mp3 3.02 the MP3 songs sound not so great and you can't use them as ringtones ar alarmsound.

I've tested the x700 now for a month. Believe me the x700 and mp3 is not a good combi. it sounds bad, the best is converting it into ogg files install oggplayer and ovcontroller than you can use your ogg files as ringtone or as alarm it sounds great (first i was a mp3 fan now a ogg fan)

as a ringtone use as mp3 format it cant, but when ur pc suite transfer mp3 it will automatically convert to wav format. ringtones plays in wav,so u can hear song in ringtones. mp3 file plays in mp3 player only.The phone is symbian os its get advantage can put all of symbian series 60 application and games. Some info for this phone, u can play mp3 player by installing symbian 60 mp3 player,mp3 sounds cant be loud, camera is clear and good although its stil vga,video recording is good, u can get a radio fm too by installing symbian radio apllication,all symbian games can be play, mini sd card max 256mb, performance is good, battery life last in 1 day in full on mode, I think its a great smartphone with a great stylish .

The samsung d500 is better, but the only downside to the d500 for me is that it doesnt have expandable memory, so i wudnt b able to get as many songs on it as i want.

actually, this phone can run dsome of the best games available on a mobile phone, 3D ones, play mp3s, avi movies, take 1megapixel pictures and other stuff my nokia 3650 can do, even though it doesn't come with the phone. That's the whole point of the Symbian operating system - it allows you to customize your phone and install 3rd party software.

Panasonic started shipping the phone to several European countries and Taiwan on Dec 1. I believe that most of these shipments are the Vodafone branded X701. As far as use in North America and Canada, it will work where 1900 MHz GSM band is supported, but it will not work for 850 MHz GSM. It is targeted at Europe and China and thus supports 1800 MHz and 900 MHz GSM as well.

by the way, you don't really need to worry about if the phone has an mp3 player because it has symbian, so you can install an mp3 player on it anyway. there are also programs that let you watch avi files too, like smart movie this program, PV Player is great too - plays many movie files: there's also these games that only work on symbian phones: these things will definately change minds and make people want this phone...

it has a mini sd slot on the back, and i think it has a flash on the camera too! Wav is a type of sound file, in this case, it's a ringtone file, only available on some phones. by the way, did i mention that this is a pretty good site :�)

I love it.. One thing.. Panasonic mobiles doesn't have MPEG 3/4 players and not all of them support java.. And i also wish it has MP3 player so i can be comparable with Sony Ericsson and Nokia... I love Panasonic Flip phones design.. It's so original!!

But fortunately , this phone have a radio function and mp3 function but i like video and the photo phonebook function it does have an mp3 function. sort of like the 6600 you know. they say it play mp3's but it does. its has a real media player which CAN play mp3's but you can't formally call it an mp3 player can you? so like all series 60 symbian devices, the x700 has real player which can support SUBWOOFERS. with radio you can access it thru the web and strem of piss the media player but it's sort of cool you know, and it convenient. it's not expensiv too (depending on network) you know. anyway i hate this phone and i can't get it out of my head. it's drivin me mad you know @#$!%^#&

to mystic: yes you're right but fortunately the X700's speaker won't be as bad when reproducing MP3s as the 6600's (Yamaha sound chip,u know). Besides, who needs MP3 anyways, when u have OGG (much better & clearer sound).
