Yota YotaPhone 2 - User Reviews

  • I bought it for 189aud back when it was still owned by its original creator. I have 201 model and had it for 3 years. Super happy with it. Outstanding display for watching and pleasant sound. However camera is not good. Every single photo need editing, although photo editing tools are outstanding. Even better that any samsung devices have. Back screen rarely used back super handy when I actually needed it. Back cracked first haha. I thought I ll never fall in love in anything else after this phone because of the in race and convenience of settings. I am even more impressed with xiaomi mi a3 now. So no more Yota grieving for me.

  • RIP yotaphone on 2019

  • not true, the Yota3 does not have mirror of the front screen to the back, but only some chinese apps on it. Unusable

  • They didn't stop, YotaPhone 3 is on it's way. Sadly only English and Chinese version and it's way too expensive. You can buy it now on Gearbest.

  • This phone is spectacular. High chipset at the time of release. Cool layout. Sad that YotaPhone stopped releasing phones.

  • Try doing a factory reset on it. My phone battery was diminishing as well and after a factory reset, It went back to 2 days under normal use.

  • Yota phone is an expectional Phone, I really like the phone but the front and black glass is broken, how do I get it fixed?

  • I've had this phone for a couple of years and I've been so happy with it, but now the battery is running out very quickly. I really want to get it fixed, it's so hard to go back to a regular phone now!

  • This pho is awesome love this device.

  • You can flash it easily. It can be updated up to Marshmallow.

  • Hi, Even i am having Yotaphone 2, but it's running on Android 5.0 version. It's Getting very hot when i am using any application or while charging. Finance Apps like exchanges, currencies are Not Working, i mean it's not getting updated. Please advise i suppose to do with this Model: YD201, HK1.1.124d. Thanks, Chenu

  • I need a yotaphone2

  • Why? I did and new Android is awesome!

  • U just order from ebay.in Its only available in ebay.in only

  • Dear You have to change the firmware. Then only you can update it.

  • Don't do upgrade

  • Hi everyone, i have YOTAPHONE 2 YD206, but there's no option to upgrade to marshmallow 6.0, please if anyone help.

  • This phone is brilliant for the specs! Just like an S5, Amoled display, Quad core CPU, 2GB RAM. Doesn't have an SD card though and the rear camera is only good for generic photos to show people what you're looking at rather than clear, sharp and quality photos. It's just a basic 8MP HD camera, nonetheless, still a lovely phone for the price, especially now since you can pick one up for about £90 brand new on a Chinese website(Gearbeast,Aliexpress etc...) the original models that went on sale. Only thing I can say is that if you own one of these, do not use Android Lollipop. Google didn't do a good job with Android 5.0 and it makes this phone have some issues too such as battery drain and poor signal as well as overheating. Lucky now we have Marshmallow for this device.

  • hi. I love this phone Soo much. kindly how can I find it in Kenya

  • So sorry its a 2014 base model so no Volte

  • Yes..is available in India..amazon.in

  • yes ..!

  • Does anyone else have problems with speaker? My speaker doesn t work, I can make cals, but no ringer, no music via speaker

  • is this phone available in india, can any one let me know.

  • It's Russian made.

  • It does not matter. Refer to corresponding XDA forum:

  • Informed can't be entirely correct, because I bought Hong Kong variant and is works like charm.

  • need to if there will be an update plz can someone tell my device is the yD206

  • Attention to the chinese YotaPhone 2 . It has problems with Google Store and updates . I bought a model but it isn't from China or HongKong. The Asian model has problems with updating Android Kit Kat . So this is the alerts I write here. Good Luck, My YotaPhone 2 was already with Android Lollipop so I don't have problems with updating or Google Store.

  • This phone is just like your average Nexus phone apart from the fact that the screen is that of a Samsung's and the rear is also usable just in case the front breaks. The number of things you can do with the ink display is outstanding, when your phone runs out of juice, it prints your most recent screenshot on the back of the phone. More than a gimmick? Depends how you use it, I use my phone for all sorts of things and having this just saves battery life and some hassle with running apps that turn off when the screen goes off.

  • I disagree, I've had two of these phones (one I broke the e-ink display when I dropped it down a flight of concrete stairs). I've not had issues with either. I've recently repaired my broken e-ink screen from a replacement found on Ali Express and it's back working like a champ.

  • Hey, Any update on OTA update?

  • This phone is great I paid it for $ 122 but sadly the front screen was cracked when it fall down while I was taking some pictures but it can still be used and I have upgrade it to the latest version. I have bought a new one with a bumper and glass protector on each screen + a wireless charge. Waiting for the yota 3 now

  • Great news! Thanks for your info, UmeshS!

  • Android 6.0 beta-testing opened for this phone, so we can expect it to be launched soon. So far guys report it's considerably faster than Android 5, however beta has bugs. I want to note, however, that chinese/hongkong versions of this phone on "ali" (known as YD-206) still have only Android 4.4 without OTA enabled. However people flash chinese phones themselves to non-chinese firmwares without flashing radio-module, and it works. More on this on xda-developers site. (To those, who wonder - YD-206s only difference from "original YD-201" version is radio-module. "Original" version supports LTE Bands B3, B7,B20, and YD-206 only supports LTE B1 and B3. Detailed differences available on "frequencycheck" site).

  • ALL phones bought on the Internet from small stores in China (aliexpress, Gearbest etc) have special fake "retailer" firmware allowing more languages and Google to be added. They don't allow normal OTA updates, you have to flash the official firmware yourself. This is a job only for technical people. The fake retailer firmware is a source of many problems on Yotaphone 2 and other Chinese phones. Some are badly written with adverts, the flashing by the buyer sometimes is problematic (missing drivers on PC etc)

  • So what? Most people know the answer to allowing government to track innocent citizens.

  • I and thousands of other yotaphone owners love their sexy, unusual phone. I easily converted it from Chinese to Russian software with no loss of 4G bands. There is a flashing tool with only 2 steps to do this, 1. download ROM and 2. flash ROM. A few have problems, I read, but I suspect they try to flash using other tools and it goes wrong.

  • hi guys incase you want to get the yotaphone don't I got it and under two months it had issues...and it restrts often ..I went on xda and lots of people had ISSUESSS! from the 14th of December 2016 all service centers around the world would stop fixing yotaphones. Secondly their Customer service is terrible and the phone easily developes problems. the first is you'll lose signal a lot and the second is the edp secondly screen would work partially. as tempting as the phone looks , the stress that comes with it outshine the benefits

  • Does it support VOLTE and HD voice calls ?

  • follow Steps from below link. I was able to upgrade it to 5.0 from 4.4.3 and it works perfectly

  • Excuse me,how to upgrade this phone ???? Because i love 💕 this phone

  • ... so what?

  • it's not Chinese, it is Russian...

  • I have had this phone for 6 months+. Still love it. I basically live off the back screen and the battery consistently lasts for 2 days. Yota has definitely made a good product.

  • American government tracks everything you do on Google, Facebook too.

  • I'm not disagreeing, or saying it's any better, but I think it's Russian.

  • Never trust a Chinese phone, or anything running on Android to bring you security, in fact, the GSM/mobile network is, and always been by essence the enemy of your privacy. either you only turn the network on when you need it, or you leave your phone at home, when dealing secret documents that might reveal an international conspiracy. anyways, i still trust BlackberryOS more. that's the last company that had everything under their control.

  • Hi bought my Yota Phone two months ago at low price 200 GBP, it had Android 5.0.0 out of the box and many updates have arrived and latest one has Android Security Patch for 1-6-2016, better than my other Android Phone which is way behind, every update brings improvements to the phone, and now a Yota store, build quality and battery life is very good and I use the rear screen more than I thought I would a Brilliant feature, and it is a talking point when I use the Yota in company because of the E ink screen, yes glad I picked one up to add to my phone collection of unusual phones, will there be a Yota Phone 3 hope so and might be using Sailfish O.S. ? as I have Jolla Phone.

  • like NSA CIA using apple phones

  • Don't say stupid things. It's true like that CIA spy Google and iPhone devices.

  • I am sure Microsoft and Google, would never do something similar. Suuuuuuuure.

  • Any proof of your claim?

  • These are now readily available for £220 new on the internet and at that price they are a fantastic bargain. Beautifully made they feel a million dollars even not being metal. The second screen really does extend your battery life, and I can use to and take no screen power to read my kindle books no other phone can do this. They also come in Beautiful presented box and if you can get it, get the pebble wireless charger which is very cook kit. Recently firmware to Lollypop and the processor really flies, side by side with my wifes S7 Edge there is barely a difference and on a pub table, my Yotaphone gets as much attention if not more than hers. certainly rarer! I have several phones being somewhat of a collector of phone tech and I can promise you these are a great buy right now, just make sure you get a bumper case.

  • The Yota Phone 2 has a built in FSB spy software which you can't uninstall, this gives FSB full access to your phone when it's connected to a network. If you can, you should flash the phone with a none official OS, so that you get rid of the spyware.

  • Hi, The phone is good and has been a very good source of communication. But the screen cannot be protected . Both the screens of my mobile have been damaged due to a fall. Can anyone help me to find an official service centre in INDIA , MUMBAI city, where I can get the screens changed. I purchased the mobile from DUBAI. Thanks AKP

  • Agree the company is Russian that doesn't mean its bad. I'm using this phone from 7 months, touch wood I haven't faced any problems.

  • Does anybody know when YotaPhone 3 will be released?

  • Phone is just to slow. That's it!

  • E ink only uses energy to write and then its remains without using any power which is why its used by E readers. So the back screen will only use energy if its updated

  • Hello, The back screen takes no power at all (It only take power when it updates which isnt very often in normal use) When you use one screen the other locks, so your using the normal screen the back locks so you cant touch it (it still shows info) if your using the back screen the front locks (and turns off) Hope that helps

  • iphone fan spoted here :D

  • Hi. I just wanna ask, coz I still dont understand how it works... If you use the front screen, does it mean the back screen will be on sleep mode? or both are on? If 2 screens are on, how long would the battery last? Thanks...

  • iPhone5's battery is ridiculous

  • I am using Yotaphone 2 for last 8 months. Few months back I updated y phone. Since then I m facing problems in the rear display.... they call it "Ghosting effect". When I use the rear display for reading something...after use of few minutes the display gets faded..and the screens gets overlapped. I sent the phonelong way from Bangladesh to Hong Kong as I bought it from there..but no luck yet. They suggest me to send the phone again which is not possible for me. And now I m in deep trouble. A phone costing almost 850 USD can give such service... difficult to believe....

  • The best thing i like is iphones dont LAG....while playing games!!n yaa totally agree that they r the best built phones

  • iPhone's look cheap? iPhone's break easily? iPhone's UNDER PREFORM? All of those are wrong. I have owned the 3g, the 4, the 5s, the 6 and the 6s Plus. The 3g still works, and my brothers are using my other phones. iPhones are among the most well built unique devices out there. I dropped my 6s+ off my balcony onto my wooden deck below. The phone was unscratched. And it preforms better in any benchmark than a phone like the Galaxy S6, or Xperia Z5 and even the Htc one m9 plus

  • Where I will get the software for synchronisation and upgrading? Please is anybody can help me?

  • Sorry to hear that, but why an iphone as your second choice? There are much better phones out there, iphones barely make a top 5 in any tech magazine's top smartphones....mainly because they are boring, featureless, break easily, udnerperform and look cheap... But good insight on the Yotaphone, i was actually considering this, but i will probably stick to LG or even Samsung, they haven't disappointed so far...

  • The phone is amazing no lags with lollipop. Back screen works like a charm. For those who say that camera is not good they are wrong. Camera is amazing even its 8mp . Stop hatin this phone just because it's a Russian brand. If this was American people would kill themselves

  • I paied 720 euro for it ;)

  • In Italy there is NO 5.0 update ! Why ? The phone is beautifull but without software support is just another FAIL !

  • Finally got my hands on the Yotaphone 2. It might not spot the latest 16-core processor but nevertheless, the built quality of the phone is solid considering both sides of the phone are made of glass. I wish there were smartphones out there that would use e-inks and last longer without needing to charge everyday. You get the best of both worlds as well as having to be extra careful too (see previous reviews). Great phone, simple design, and have a bit of 'Edge' on the e-ink display too.

  • same problem rear screen got broken.

  • so what ?? It happens everywhere, with other phones too.

  • Realy the device is awsome But it's was very expensive 500 euro ummaaaaaa

  • The rear screen got broken any place in Saudi Arabia or Bahrain to replace?

  • I am a Canadian author and working on my next project in Russia. I bought this phone when it was first released in Moscow about a year ago. The rear screen got broken during my trip to Asia so I waited to get back to Moscow to fix it. So the final word from YotaPhone is buy a new phone. Replacing the two screens will take three weeks and save me 100 euros over buying a new one. So it seems my Russian family and friends were correct. I should have bought an Iphone. The dual screens that make the Yotaphone unique and more functional are its Achilles heel. The large glass surfaces provide structural integrity to each other so when I broke the rear display it allowed the front display to twist and break easily. Yotaphone seems to want to profit twice off their customer base. Or they expect us to believe they went to market with a product they are getting less than 100 euros per unit sold. The later doesn't seem likely, but then again neither is treating their customer base this way seem a good idea. So since I have received no answer past send it in and wait or buy a new one I am left to come to my own conclusions. The North American launch of the product is soon so I wanted this to be searchable in English so that consumers have an idea what they are getting into. No doubt a budding market of fixers will spring up to handle this flaw and profit from it here in Russia as this is how things work over here. Sad really that Yotaphone missed the shot, they won at CES and then failed in Customer Service. I really wanted this Russian company to do well and prove they could compete in an open market. It was in truth a source of pride for me. Why else would I have put my money where my mouth was and buy this phone the day it was released in Moscow? I was leaving the country and could have bought a six without the sanctions tariffs? The market penetration is poor in Russia even Anapa, a rich seaside resort doesn't have a distributor. Heads up North America GREAT PHONE VERY VERY BAD SERVICE!

  • When in South Africa?

  • This Phone is currently available for purchase globally on Indiegogo.com. looks like they are GSM only though. Still global though

  • Yes there is one available which has only epaper display and battery life is in weeks

  • Nice Phone - Excellent idea. Unfortunately i cant find it in Greece. Maybe you should create a phone with only a grey display.

  • I'm looking for a smartphone with e-paper only display. Is there such a device?

  • While the design of the phone is definitely new but still not productive enough. Everything that is different from others doesn't means is more useful. Still at the back of my head i feel the dual screen might be brandished as cheap.

  • I personally think this phone is good, but not slim enough for me. I like the inovation about dual display, in front and back, but the design of this smartphone is bad.

  • now that the phone got a price cut..... It does look good for what its worth... The white varient looks absolutely amazing... Very premium... I believe it is going to get another price cut before reaching India

  • good innovation and great looking phone... Looks like a premium build... Only SoC is a disappointment.... That too only For the price point though... Will be on the lookout for this in India. gonna get it as soon as i can

  • Such phone must be thinner and screen must be bigger for reading, otherwise good alternative phone choise.

  • Price is high comparing specifications match cost to other mobiles ,add from my humple expert , ips better than amoled screen , 5 inch ? 6 or 5.5 better make that money deserve it , 2nd screen ,good but if it would be bigger size it could replace , ebook

  • It's really really coool

  • var we can buy yota phone 2 nd tel me the pice ........

  • This is what the Amazon Phone should have been!

  • ooh yeah cool yota phone 2

  • Best !

  • Yeah right.. good thinking

  • Why use a SOC from 2013? It's way overpriced. No expandable sd-card, no IPXX rating and poor battery life. Great design and innovation.

  • Is there a back panel behind the phone?

  • wel..i dont know if you can use both the front and the back!! hahahaha...MULTITASKING!!

  • Great phone , but too expensive :(

  • it will be helpfull if it is available on dual sim is there is any possible to come like that?

  • Russian roullette, casino royale . . .

  • I like the design and the innovation in this phone... But at this price ?? who's will buy without an expandable storage and for just a 8MP Camera ?

  • I'm correcting my comment: Its not 500 euros, but 700 euro... SEVEN HUNDRED EURO They really think this phone that much worth... Really crazy... Mind blowing price!

  • Now that's a premium design, not Apple. But the performance is questionable.

  • Very very very expensive phone, secondary screen makes difference but not much as 500 euros.

  • Russians are coming

  • just because it have 2 touch panel make the phone over priced.. the spec rated just low - med... if the spec is med - high mayb i would buy..

  • Expensive, but great phone.

  • so expensive and the camera are noob
