  • This phone is excellent. One problem is the battery life. I can only gat 2 hours or even 1hr 30 mins of use. It got me thinking that underclocking the cpu is the solution. Guess what? It is! I have managed to put the cpu frequency from 1.6 GHZ to 1.3 GHZ. The battery life is better now than before. Performance decrease is not noticable. In fact it got a bit faster. Because the cpu is not overheating anymore, the result is good. You should root the phone though for this to work with a specific app to change the frequency of the cpu.

  • Great quality pictures. Fast charging. Faster going out... Battery is a problem. When upgrade to android 5 ...you will get a slower smartphone and less battery. Android 5 is not so good. Avoid it. The smartphone gets very warm when you use it a lot...even reboot by himself ( only happen after getting android 5 ) Gps on this smartphone is very bad. It's very difficult to get signal.... If you need to use gps in this smartphone, forget it. I have contacted Asus. 2 months later they contact me...telling that the problems are coming from Android 5, and not from the smartphone...well....I sold it to a guy that has upgraded to android 6 and works fine ( cyanogen ) I do not know... But I avoid Asus. Do not want Asus pc, smartphone, or router....will avoid this brand

  • Firstly for battery draining fast problem always use powersaver in supersaving mode or in customized mode only. For upgrade from kitkat to lollipop check the link and download and follow the procedure there read carefully before u attempt Note: the firmware will have more size than your current kitkat size so your internal storage will be less than before so you cant download more apps

  • I use Asus ZenFone 5 a501cg for since about 2 years now,,i upgarded my phone to lollipop 5.0 ya it lags sometimes but still for me it's the best still...But ya when i made it lollipop since then i couldnt keep much games because it lags,and i say they in this phone the preinstalled android 4.3 jelly beam is better..it wont lag.. It sometimes heats up,and also i prefer that jelly beam 4.3 for this phone..it wont lag but if u make it lolipop it lags sometimes,the camera also excellent till now buy one biggest problem of this phone is the buttons,mine ones broke ,they came out because they are fixed with the back cover,and also the cost of repairing its screen is very high it costed me 5000rs when i went to asus service center for repairing the broken screen,overall i will give it 7.5 out of 10..

  • Hi, I have lost both the IMEIs on my Zenfone 5 and even the Baseband shows 'Unknown'. I have tried to follow some instructions from the internet line downloading terminal emulator or resetting to default but none of these steps worked. The Service Centre suggested a motherboard change, which financially is not logical or feasible either. Any other suggestion how to recover the IMEI?

  • Fast and full of extras! The speaker (hardware) fail easily. It was a hardware error in this model. The replacement speaker is more durable (better build quality). The photographic quality is average. Nothing special, equivalent to a Chinese low cost smartphone. Even if we use photographic software like A BETTER CAMERA, the results are not surprising / not so Good. 3G is fast and fluid. Reacts well when you use the First Class Radio APP, and works perfectly even when the sound of the radio is playing in 3G and even in 2.5G. A pleasant surprise. The sound quality of the speaker and the microphone is quite good, and the conversation is natural and sharp. The screen has a good definition and colors are vivid and intense. Value for money is a pleasant shopping, however within this price range there are interesting competitors with much better photo quality.

  • Same problem with network. It's a shame, but Asus released a firmware that cause that problem. After a lot of emails, the support said that I needed to make a downgrade. Shame, shame, shame... downgrade the "solution". Lost everything on the phone and now it's running a older version. They said to send it for 'repair'. An advise? Give it away and buy another. I'm thinking about Meizu or Lenovo.

  • From JellyBean, update to KitKat first. Then update again to Lollipop. Firmware can be downloaded at Asus Website. Or, if u are an advanced user, you can straight forward update to Lollipop using ADB.

  • Here's some tip to improve the battery based on my experience: 1. Don't install battery savering or booster apps. Those apps drains the battery instead of saving. Upgrade to Lollipop and you get a battery saver as well as booster and auto start manager intergrated to the system. 2. Don't set the screen brightness to max. Set the screen brightness as low as you are comfortable with. 3. Turn on data only when you need it. Since data really consumes a huge amount of battery. 4. If you will be using that app in the next 10 minutes again, minimize it instead of closing since its easier for the processor to just load the app from the ram instead of opening it from scratch. With less processor usage comes less battery usage :) 5. Disable unnecessary apps from the auto start up. 6. If you will not use the app for more than an hour, close it instead of minimizing to conserve ram and prevent the app from continuously running in the background. Those tips worked for me and my zenfone 5 lasted for a whole day or half a day with data turned on.

  • That's really weird. I have to admit, the battery is not that good but draining 50% in just 30 minutes is just unbelievable. Make sure that you don't have battery draining apps installed (specially those so called boosters and battery saver apps) on your phone and turn off the data, wifi and Bluetooth when your not using it. Mine can last a day without using data and simply using it for light usage. And about half a day when I keep data on and frequently open facebook and browser. While about 2-4 hours with heavy gaming and wifi on.

  • I noticed that the camera quality (specially the front cam) has been deteriorating lately after they updated it. I wouldn't recommend this for those who likes taking photos since Asus just screwed up the camera app big time. The old pixel master camera app was more better quality wise :(

  • Hi Prawesh, It works for 7-8 hours and 3days on standby approx. Please follow below steps may improve battery backup: 1. Enable “Power saver” (Settings >Power management) 2. Close apps that are not used (Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, etc.) 3.Adjust sleep time and brightness (Settings > Display) 4. Boost memory when you see memory consumes is high with no app running, 5. check for background running applications, stop/disable unwanted apps, you can manage apps from auto-start manager. 6. check for latest ZenUI/3rd party Apps update.

  • excellent phone, superb hardware, i love my asus zenfone 5 and its custom ui which allow you smart customization for your smartphone. music volume is a little bit low with loudspeakers as well as headphone also but you can use poweramp for nice sound output.. battery works fine for 1 and half day with moderate use. i was always dreaming about a super phone like this.. and now asus made it reality. guys preferring hardware performance, games camera and customization must buy this phone without any doubt.

  • It depends, what are you using it for?? on wifi or cellular data??? or just games??? I use it for games and the 3d games I played lasts me about 3-4 hours on medium brightness and using earphones on mid volume :D

  • Zenfone 5 is vest on KK as it gives the best battery life.. nd on L when i was using Android L it used to show "97%- 3hrs remaining.. Android L is much smoother rather than KK. Less lags, new animations love them.... If u want to increase ur battery life u have to do few steps: 1) root ur zenfone 5 2) install battery caliberation from play store, first charge ur phone to full 100% nd open the app 'battery calibrator or calibration' and press the start button for caliberation after the caliberation finishes download an app 'Greenify' it works even if ur device is noot rooted, download the app and set it to ' Auto Hibernation' which makes ur other downloaded app go to sleep and u will not recieve any notification from those apps until u open them manually and then it will synchronize to get ur latest msg's, mails, news, updates and etc....

  • I have this phone, the z2560 1.6 Ghz version, 16 GB Lollipop, Firmware Version WW_3.23.40.60 Battery lasts around 8-10 hours on moderate usage, 1-2 hours gaming, 30 minutes of videos, text and instant messaging every once in a while, using wifi. Power Saver on optimised mode Auto start manager - turned off everything except sync and instant messaging apps

  • Lollipop seems ok, but there's a lot more bloatware packed now.

  • Asus took the bloatware to the whole new level with the lollipop update. Can't work 10 minutes with the phone without some crap popping out of the notification center. Thank you Asus for ruining perfectly good phone. Hopefully there will be downgrade option or some good custom firmware for ww version.

  • Ultra Saving Mode in lollipop is a beast. i can reach 3 days and 15hrs in my normal use.. Slight internet. 3hrs screen on. Update manually to lollipop, its safe.. As long as the file you download is from the asus official site and correct installation.. or wait for FOTA so long. Zen UI in lollipop is beautiful.

  • I have been using this phone for a couple of days now. I bought the 2gb ram and 16gb internal version. I already updated it to kitkatt. So far what I can tell you is that the perfomance is smooth. The camera seems okay. Everything looks smooth and fast. I didnt have the chance to play high end games yet but i've tried vector and an rpg games which works very well. For the battery, when i first got the phone, it only have ~30%and it last for about 2-3 hours. The next day, i got 7 hours with 3-4 hours of on screen times. So basically i need to charge the phone twice daily. For the second time, i usually charged up to 50% to get me through the night. And uh. When you use it heavily, you'll notice that the area around the camera becomes very hot. [email protected] if you need further review from me.

  • Got this phone just recently. Issue is that it's battery drops very fast. Like 20% in an hour and I will only be on wifi. And the other thing my version happens to be a CUCC version and I wish to upgrade to Lollipop but the Asus site only has CHT, CN and TW versions, don't know what to do! OR is there a way to convert from CUCC to WW version... Every help will be appreciated.

  • I suggest you get the original charger. I am using the original and everything works out well. Unless maybe you are using some pretty battery intensive apps all the time. It's just that the battery life is weak on this device!

Before I bought the Zenfone 5, I heard that people said that the phone can't handle 3D games smoothly,but my Asphalt 8, Gangstar Vegas, Fifa 15 and others can run smoothly. 2. It's camera is acceptable. 3. ZenUI is stylish. 4. Although it only costs RM600 something but it's storage is just like the flagships, 16GB. Cons of ASUS ZenFone 5: 1. Heats up rapidly. 2. Battery drains fast. 3. When you want to clear the running apps, sometimes it will stuck at that page. So, you have to hardcore reset it.

  • Those who are having SKU-WW first update your firmware from phone. Now go to ASUS website and then to driver and manual. Scroll down till you find lollipop update released on 31/05/2015. Download the zip file in your phone. cut it and paste to the root directory. restart your phone and follow the instructions appears on screen. Use a wifi connection as the file size is 700mb+.

  • I'm using this phone since 5 months and I have only one word to say about it 'awesome' the camera of this phone is really great which is only 8mp but it feels like a 13mp camera the 2gb ram really makes it fast and I'm not facing any heating or hanging problem.   • Yes , the battery life with lollipop is better than KitKat...not very big difference , but standby time has increased a lot & also the power saving modes do perform better in lollipop...! I would say it worth updating to Lollipop for little more battery life...!

But the performance of this unit for a mid-range Smartphone is great. It shows its true potential once updated to Lollipop. Smooth UI, 2GB of RAM and 5 inches display is great, matched with the killer price that rivals other phone brands in the mid-range category (Samsung, I'm looking at you!). Worth the money I've paid for. Will get Zenfone 2 ZE551ML :D

  • I have updated my Zenfone 5 A501CG to lollipop by downloading the file from ASUS.com , installed it manually , so far everything works good , UI had changed and looks great , the Lollipop UI has more smoother transitions than the KitKat , note that when switched on first time after updating , the UI lagged and app took a little more time to open but after 5 mins of use , everything worked flawlessly & smoothly...! There are many changes to the UI...! Animations are great...! By my experience i think the battery life has improved a little bit especially the standby time has improved...and especially the Ultra Power Saving mode works way way better than before...! After first boot 1395 MB RAM was free...! Rest every thing is same like camera quality , Music quality remains unchanged...! Conclusion : I think there is no problem in updating to Lollipop...!

  • Just a great phone under 10k. The intel processor is good, the PixelMaster canera is awesome and has great details in it.In low light mode the images are suprisingly brighter. The UI is nice and inituitive to use. The only and only problem is the 2110 mah battery.Otherwise every thing is good including the rear flash which can give serious challenge to the dual LED's.

  • Hi, I using same model as you(8GB internal storage). Just keep update your ZenUI. I think is that problem. So far I only have problem with contact is missing. After restart phone no problem. You app lagging is think you refer to asus file explorer, Yes, that app after update is lagging and some time hang. What I can do is wait for update. Remember, Keep at less few MB free space of internal storage to prevent lagging.

So I personally recommend you to buy this. In flipkart there is kitkat out of box variant of asus zenfone 5 A501CG. Please note this variant of zenfone 5 (1.2ghz) doesn't come with headset inside the box.

  • Probably Asphalt 8 doesn't support x86 architechture? I just assume that would be the problem like the previous version of Facebook. I've installed 23 different games and played the Real Racing 3 with no noticeable hang. The only problem I had is the ZenUI have some problem with the GO Launcher. Other than that it is nice. I'll try to download the Asphalt 8 and see if it laggs with my phone.

  • I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago, for the first time it happen to be a little bit problem, some lagging when playing video and lagging when record video, since I not very happy enough, I brought my phone to asus center, and they found out that theres a problem with the motherboard and have to be replace but must wait for two weeks, so after two weeks, a little bit improvements happen. But phone software must be updated. But theres only one thing makes me disappointed gaming performance with Asphalt 8 Airbone. So much lagging even the RAM still have 1.4GB free. I dont understand, my friend bought a cheap phone 1.3 GHz with 1 GB RAM, no lagging , smooth, got jealous because of the cheap phone compare with mine 1.6GHz and 2GB RAM cannot bring better gaming performance other than that Good phone design, and cool ZENUi.

  • In android lollipop Google changed its default runtime to "ART"...earlier in kitkat it used Dalvik as its runtime. so, in kitkat Intel has to recode everything from Dalvik to Art which caused battery drain. As Intel's native runtime is ART, now it uses less battery on lollipop.

  • Google improved the battery life in android L by making ART as its default Runtime..and L has a builtin power saver.,But now its using Dalvik as its runtime so Intel processor has to convert and process the runtime codes for kitkat which makes it hard and drains battery in ZF5..So, in lollipop we will get a better battery life than now.
