  • Hello! I recently bought the BlackBerry Pearl 9105 3G. I am new to BlackBerry and this is my first BlackBerry phone. I want to know if we can use internet browser and other apps such as Facebook, Twitter over Wi-Fi without a BlackBerry subscription? I subscribed to a Blackberry plan for a week to try and everything was working fine. As soon as the plan is done, I am unable to use the internet browser and the related apps over Wi-Fi although my phone shows connected to the Wi-Fi. And also the bluetooth transfer isn't working. Is it necessary to have a BlackBerry plan for the above things to work? My phone is new and on OS 5. Please help. BB users please help.

  • I have been using this phone for a year and half without any problem. Battery life is good, so are keys and sound quality. Camera might not appeal to everyone though. But I do not care. The volume rocker and Camera Key have been covered by rubber which eventually will worn out someday. (I still have my Nokia E-51 with worn out rubbers.) Most probably this phone has already been out of production as I am writing this. But anyway, if someone finds my opinion good it will be cheery.

  • Well, I'm a month earlier than you then.... even the side-buttons already peeled-off, but it still works perfectly as it is. Although I realized that it needs to double the RAM. I regularly use its camera (capable shooter), MP3 Player, modem, chatting (BBM | WhatsApp), browsing, RSS Feeds, Voice, Torch, etc. Worthed to own. Now it sold for only USD 165.00 in my country (Indonesia).

  • this is a good phone. although many say that the B.B o.s is not good for teens and best for businessmen i say that with pearl 9105 its totally different. system is little bit difficult to operate at the beginning for a new one. the only problem is that there are less free apps in B.B app world. the camera is having a good quality.   • It is not microsim, I own this phone. It is terrible on OS6, I have downloaded and ran it for a few months and it has recked the phone. The graphics lag, the phone freezes (extremeley regularly). Cheap plastic, decided I wanted something new so I looked on e-bay for something and ended up with a HTC mozart for £60. Bottom line: This phone is terrible, do not spend your money on it!

  • Had this phone for about a year or so now. It's a great phone if you just want to make calls, send texts/BBM, and check your emails. I use it as a work phone and use an iPhone 4S as my primary device. The pro's and con's are listed below: Pro's - 1) Great battery life (especially if you switch to 2G only). 2) Good build quality. 3) LED indicator is very useful. A cheap app lets you customise the LED indicator so you can easily check if you have a missed call, text, email, etc. 4) Just works - good signal and reliable (i.e. never crashes). 5) Brilliant phone for travelling with over seas. Blackberry travel is simply the best (I know alternatives exist on iPhone, Android WP7/8, etc., but they simply aren't as good). 6) Good proportions for a second phone. Marginally bigger than a 'dumb' phone so not too much hassle to carry around as a second phone. 7) Uses very little data, even when used regularly. Con's - 1) OS is a little dated now. 2) Internet browser is ok, but not great. 3) Camera is ok, but not great (not an issue for me, but might be a problem for some).

  • I've been having additional data charges since i used this phone. I am currently subscribed to BBM only, which does not allow for surfing or social media via data. However, since im on BBM, i am required to turn on the Data settings. I can only surf and do internet when i am on Wifi. However, i keep incurring additional data charges? Is this normal? Before, when i was using my old phone, i rarely got additional /high data charges on my bill.

  • i did it last mounth and i downgrade it to OS 5.0 today, because it has been hanged and encounter with some un-user-friendly problems, like delaying in delete some files, grab the memory card for it's thumbs, late in run applications etc... and today i downgrade it to OS 5.0 but if you like to upgrade to 6.0 you can download .exe file from here: (UK Orange has full complete OS) after download, run and install it in your windows, then go to Drive (C) > Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > Apploader and delete Vendor.xml, then run Loader.exe from that address and do next, after see your PIN Number of your phone do next and catch your device battery (important!) and then select the options that you want to install on your phone, thend do next and stay to restart your phone in nw OS! have fun

  • However, i forgot to mention, i encountered problems when i upgraded to the latest AppWorld. The phone kept on hanging until i downgraded to the lower version. Until there is a bugfix for the latest AppWorld, do not upgrade!!!

Functionality is ok than expected. although my main gripe is that it has no Filipino Language/T9 input as compared to Nokia phones, which makes texting a little more harder, it's like going back to the old times with the multitap texting.. all else check.   • I have used this phone for about 4 months. Its basically a great phone. Small, light, good enough camera for that unexpected moment. However, what I really can't cope with is the keypad. After about 3 years using qwerty, normal keypad just couldn't win over it. So, I move on to curve 3 g today..

  • this is by FAR the best blackberry iv had. but then iv only had this and the curve 8420. the only critiscisms i have of it are as follows: if you upgrade to OS6, expect your battery to drain faster, and for the phone to slow down alot. runs better on OS5. (im downgradeing mine to OS5 as we speak) the predictive text on it is terrible. if i type in 'yeah' the first word that comes up EVERY time is xech. what the hell is a xech? but yeah the phone IS amazing. much better than any bb iv used. i prefer it to the torch, which my mum has. the pearl is faster than the torch :P

  • Don't upgrade to app world to the new version (3.1.1.21) and is not working any more. If u upgrade also there is a solution for degrading. "Do the following: options>device>application management choose blackberry app world select delete restart on restart, send browser to: reinstall old version of blackberry appworld in my case BlackBerry App World v3.1.0.60 (OS6), no more freezing, all good."

  • I am using my pearl past 11 months. It was my first blackberry phone which is amazing. Battery back-up was good for normal use . while using browsing it drains out. Rest and all it's good. This is one of the best phone that I never experienced.

  • please do a device wipping by using security wipe in your handheld,and please notice do some backup using desktop manager before to backup your bb data and then go for wipping. if that doesn't do the job, please renew your os. surely that will do the job.

  • Curve is good, but it is too big. I don't know but even with my 5'6'' height I can't find ways to get thieves away from me and my fone. Simple, slimmer, smaller is worth a try after loosing Nokia N-gage, E90, N95, samsung corby, and BBcurve.

  • i don't think so. i've been using BB curve 9300 and then bought a pearl recently. the none-qwerty keys doesn't make this unit ugly. BB is just thinking of ways to get the interest of those in the alpha-numeric keypad market. and this unit makes the transition of new BB users easy.

  • I have used this BB Pearl 9105 for one and half year. I choose it because I am interested with QWERTY in that time, easy to carry, and slim in one hand. It's not common to BB series. OS 6 is better for me. One of the feature that's The Map. It catch up the position faster than using OS5. Anyway, the processor and RAM actually is not adequate for recent activity right now. I have hundreds of BBM list, and sometimes the phone is slow down. IT's common in BB series. To be frankly, BB should release series of dual core right now with acceptable price. Compared with another phone.... it's technology is lacked behind. Well, I'm used it majority because of it's BBM. Else, a lot of brand is better. I'm using android tablet now, it's easier and more attractive if we talked about fitures. Still, Androids doesn't have BBM. If we talked about BB series, this is recomanded series, because it has similar specification with Onyx 2, but different in chase, and more acceptable price. Thank you.

  • nice phone, battery backup lasts for 1.5-2 days with moderate use like sounds, bbm, txt and calls for a day. easy to use/navigate as well, worth the money except for the memory which is only 256mb with an os6 hardware and lacks of second cam for vid calls like skype...

  • yes the right convenience key is according to some a software problem, and some said when you keep on trying it (assigning new shortcuts to it) it will work, good luck in trying!

  • I love the fact that the phone is sleek. It has better resolution that BB Curve (well, basically because the screen size is smaller). Any way, I'd like to ask fellow BB Pearl 9105 users if the right convenience key isn't really working. It works fine if you'll use it in taking photos. But if you are in your home screen and for instance, you want to use the right convenience key to bring up the camera (or any app that you assigned it to), it does not work. Same experience? Will be waiting for your response. Overall, its 7.5/10..

Interface, well that depends on personal preferance....it's what your used to! As for the keylock on BB you either go to the menu setting and can manually lock this or there is also a lock button...Sorry I forgot that this is TOO complicated for your mind as your pretty simple minded! You can ALSO set in the menu to lock the phone automatically AND set this to lock WHEN you put this in to the holster!!!! Er...that's four different lock techniques already! SE.....once simple keypad lock and NO security....! Er need I go on for more about other features of the BB??? Guess not....!

  • BLACKBERRY..... in your next release of BB9105 do increase the Internal memory capacity to 8gb/16gb with card slot of 32gb and Ram of 500+/1gb. You have an App store 256MB is very limited in downloading applications. OS6 or OS7 and 1gb of CPU, camera 5MP autofocus LED flash, and Dimensions the same with old one. Thanks

  • I got this phone today. I wanted the 9100 but ended up getting this. So far so good. I loved t9 on my phone and SureType is about the same. I'm not sure if I can turn off the other languages (haven't really explored the phone yet), but I'm starting to get used to it. It's snappy and feels solid in the hand. Camera is ok for web use, flash is amazing. I just wish it was a bit less shiny lol. Its a fingerprint magnet but other than that, I love it.

  • I have this phone and its easy to use, im into photography and this phone did a great job, just use the setting for landscape, nightmode for outdoor, macro etc.then u get a great qualtiy image, u can download different apps and change the interface in diffrent design. its fast and can multitask. the downside is that it lacks a memory for operating system bcoz i downloas a lot of apps.

  • Hi liesy u can add customized words in the phone in the options tab then go to custom dictionary then u can enter ur word and the next time the dictionary is on it will accept ur word. Hope this helps

Alphanumerik keypad (i don't like qwerty), nice design, 3G connection for fast internet experience, a worth it 3,2mpix cam with AF & flash, great sound output for listening music, fast interface (mine using OS6 already) and i use 8gb memory, never lag or got stuck on loading screen, and also it has a great battery life.. Thumbs up!

  • I have recently bought it - as it only came to this country in the past few weeks - and have two 'problems', if they are ever considered to be problems. The first one is the cursor. It is hard moving up/down, due to the design of the phone itself. The second one is the keypad. Even though it is slick and beautiful, yet it is difficult to type - especially when there's lots to type in a conversation on BlackBerry Messenger - where it would take lots of time to reply to someone. Added the fact that some words do not exist in T9-like typing mode, known as SureType[sp?]. Other than that, the phone is amazing and I have no regrets of the purchase. Battery life-time is great. I have charged it once since I bought it, and it has been running smoothly since then, which has been 3 days. During that time, I have been using BBM, Facebook app, receiving and sending text messages, calls, and used the browser to view my e-mails.

  • Heres the deal. If you want a blackberry but dont want a qwerty keypad, this is the phone for you. It has great features, is easy to type with, upgradeable to OS 6, slim ,light and classy looking. I have the phone for three months now and its working great. Whatever reviews you read on here are subject to individuals, generally it doesnt have any problems and i dont find any reason for anyone not to get it. Like all blackberries, the battery life is not the greatest but that comes with these smartphones and regular usage. Wise choice:)

  • The BB pearl has horrible internet browsing capabilities or any BB found in the market. The small screens used will give u hard time to do so especially the pearl that lacks a full QWERTY keyboard. I would consider going for the HTC desire or the HD7 and my best choice is the iphone 4 but it lacks flash support that is fixed by installin third party applications like Skyfire.

  • I just bought this BB Pearl l9105 unit. This is my first BB phone and during my initial charge I noticed the battery heated up (and the unit itself felt all warmer). Got the battery to full charge after less than an hour. Is this heating up during charging normal? Isn't this bad for the battery and the phone itself? Thanks and more power.

  • I am used to that kind of a keypad on my previous LG phone and found this keypad on 9105 a bit of a pain to type on, i think the keys were too slippery and small. Luckily i managed to get rid of it with no monetary loss :-)

  • yes yusuf, even i got a pearl with the same problem. the right side of the tracpad is a bit sunken down & does not level up with the rest of the keypad. but nevertheless it functions very well.

  • bb os6 is only meant for bb device which have 512mb of ram! and 9105 isn't one of them! you cannot upgrade 9105 to os6! and that's official. maybe if there's someone out there claiming that they upgraded their 9105, 9100, 8900, 9000, 8520/30, or whatever bb device which only have 256mb of ram to os6, they only installed the themes which make it look like os6 interface. i repeat, bb os 6 cannot be installed to a bb device which have less than 512mb of ram!

  • transfer through bluetooth, nokia gives multiple options to backup and restore contacts but i'm not sure about BB. In worst case you need to use a third party tool that will convert all contacts from ur memory card into a BB format. but first try transferring via bluetooth and before transfer authorize ur nokia on BB, otherwise it will keep on bugging you for transfer of every single contact.

  • I have the Pearl 9105 3G and I totally like it. Its light small and has all the BB features of Bold 9700. The difference between the Pearl 9105 and the 9100: Pearl 3G 9105 has a standard 12 key buttons While Pearl 3G 9100 has half a QWERTY key board. Its all in the layers of the letters on the phone. The 9015 is like the traditional old Nokias and Sony Erricson whilst the 9100 is like a computer key board layout. Hope that helps. Noha

  • The difference between the 9105 and the 9100 is the keypad. The 9100 has a half-QWERTY keypad ala the Pearl 8100/ 8110 & 8120. The 9105 has a normal phone/ numeric keypad, (look at the pictures of the phones closely).

  • hi adrian. to answer your question you need to download a app called show event log this app can be downloaded for free from blackberry app world. this should help you as it shows you all the phone logs and they can be cleared. however it will not clear your call logs as you can do this from a option in the phone menu. hope this helps.

  • I think the Pearl 9105 sucks. i had the sony ericsson 810, n was soo much more friendly. You cannot down load from another phone, cannot transfer via b/tooth ph numbers or pics. Unless i don't know how to do it. Tried geting infor as well, terrible. Made a mistake. Only good for face book/ gps/ twitter

  • you really have to charge the phone for 12 hours when you first get any phone , then you will get full standby time , mine lasts ages , its my first blackberry and i love it , was a nokia fan before this but this phone converted me , was going to buy a second blackberry sim free , 9780 bold but changed my mind eg the pixels on the screen are only 480 by 360 and only 65k colors , the pearl is smaller screen but better to look at its got 360 by 400 and 256k colors ,so to me the bold i think blackberry are cheating people on it as the screen should have more pixels and more colors than 65k , to me its really the same as the 9700 , if im wrong feel free to advise me on this one as i am going to buy a second blackberry but as yet it may be a second 9105 pearl . and also some people say build quality of blackberry phones has sliped in standard well i think they have followed nokia and started to build them in hungary , nokia did this and nokia phones started to feel cheap , i hope blackberry dont let this happen to there phones ,

  • had the same problem. usually happens when the battery is allowed to run completely flat. Answer is to remove battery with phone on. Replace battery and wait for the phone to run through its diagnostics. The keyboard will then work. Also have a problem with image files being locked as 'file in use' and undeletable, once they've been emailed or texted. Same solution!

  • Hi, I have been using my BB 9105 for a month now. It works great. I like the great display, the chat style messaging, good battery backup, the trackpad(makes navigation and document viewing/editing real easy and fun) and easy to hold design. Sound quality and loudness is also good. The camera is 3MP but still pretty good. I bought it for INR 15,600 at Mobile Store Chennai.

  • to all bb 9105 users i have installed and tested the leaked version of the new bb os 6 for the pearl (available from www.crackberry.com), bb os 6 is a massive improvement from os 6, finally a decent browser ( however still no flash support), smooth menu transitions a more user friendly user interface amongst a whole load of other features. i have experienced some bugs and lagging, however this was to be expected as it is a leaked version and not the final release from blackberry. my advice is, its better to wait till january 2011 for the official release from blackberry and hopefully any current issues will be fixed.

  • Go to Bluetooth options, enable bluetooth and select add device. Then select search. Once paired, send the file. In case it doesnot work go to the added device's properites and change it to trusted.

  • To below,my keypad works nice and bright in fact this is my first BB and its flawless and never crashed or let me down.Batteryis unbelievable and yes it took me a while to read and learn about bb system. I went to bed 11pm with full charge and left podcast playing for 7 hrs,checked all my email within reason(ie large html which needed computer screen to view)played 2 hrs music and 10 mins callss 20 txts sent recieved done some twitter and 2 bars left on batt monitor.   • got bluetooth sorted at last.battery 4 days with medium use.i know why it went down quicker last time because under some other settings menu (still a BB virgin)bluetooth and wifi and cellular network were all ticked and screen briteness was on 80%.. Screen briteness has the auto sensor like on nokias so turned it off and now using 10 which is lowest setting and still brighter than my n82..The screen on my BB has screen briteness, 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 So 10 is lowest setting.Now to a hardened BB user whos been using these emails supremecies for 13 years or however long BB were going for is going to think ive found a new thing,,I mean to say its good as a nokia old style for multimedia prowessand options. I have been twittering and email and texting easily but the icons are taking some getting used to..The bbc i-player for us in uk is their as a download but does not work yet???

  • I have a BB Pearl 8130 but maybe this will work for the new 9105. Create a Group in the address group, add all the contacts you want in the group. Compose SMS and use the "Group" as the recipient. Although, I have read that Blackberry groups have a limit of 30 contacts.

  • I an a nokia fan at heart so well into symbian but not BB..I am finding out new things all the time..I still have not bluetoothed files over yet my nokia says CANNOT CONNECT ?So in answer to ur question icant find anything yet but with it being a messaging powerhouse someone must know.My old samsung d900 couls sms 20 people at once so A bb surely should be able to do more.   • IVE just bought this as my chritmas present to myself..Its my first BB and taking a bit of getting used to and setting up but nearly their.I got it yesterday on vida uk and on prepay they are doing free internet BB plan worth 5GBP till june next year. I can only get edge where i am and battery is still on first charge.Music is clear and options are plentuful.I am usimg a sandisk 32GB card which is no problen for BB 3g 9105 but my N86 i have really struggled with it.So far my BB experiance has been positive and if this more multimedia spec BB had not been laaunched i would still not have been tempted to buy BB.

  • I got a free upgrade from Orange for the BB Pearl and I am sorry to say, like half the phones on the market these days the signal was pretty poor.Whilst I get a full signal on my trusty Nokia 6310i the BB regularly would lose the network. I have now sent it back and gone back to my 8 year old Nokia. However, if you can see by the signal issues and loss of service it really has other uses albeit none spring to mind apart from it made a lovely paper weight.

  • wayhe hi wayhe, nokia e series phones have been a great line up from nokia and i myself was going to upgrade my nokia e51 to a e52 but instead opted for the bb pearl 9105. your current phone (nokia e55) is a Series 60 symbian smartphone, however the nokia c3 or c3-01 is a series 40 (not a smartphone platform), so going from a smartphone to a box standard os such as series 40 is not really advisable. blackberrys are great to use, the bb pearl will get upgraded to bb os6 which will bring much needed improvements from the current os 5 including a webkit brower, generally the os is pretty easy to use and not complicated at all. you will need to subscribe (monthly fee) to a BES or BIS (blackberry service) account with your network provider to be able to use the services from blackberry, i.e, blackberry messenger, blackberry emails, blackberry maps, blackberry app world...etc. you can however still use the handset for calls and texts without a BES or BIS account but you will not benefit from the bb services. the games on blackberrys are not great at all and found that games available for nokia symbian phones (including n-gage games) were far better, there just arent any good games for blackberry phones. however the apps on blackberry app world are far far better then those available on nokias ovi store or for symbian. i would recommend you actually have a play around with the handset first to get the jist of things and what to expect from blackberrys, i myself am very happy with my bb pearl 9105 and have no regrets. hope this helps.

  • Please don't come on here and ask stupid questions like "how do I put this phone on silent" or any such related questions, for basic stuff why don't you refer to the instruction manual and if you don't have one then you can download one for free from blackberry.com they also have the instruction manual in different languages.

  • sreenkanth the pearl 3G 9105 does not have a front facing camera for video call and the back case camera cannot be used either, i guess this is a feature RIM have left out for whatever reason they have. although it would be a good feature to have. however the handset does support full 3G/HSDPA for internet connections, streaming, uploading and downloading in terms of no camera for video calling being a drawback comes down to if u would need that feature and how important it is.

  • Light, compact, easy to use, The connection running in 3G very stable just Like onyx. So if you are saying that onyx is too big for you, and you prefer multitap and suretype in one device you should aim for this. Camera, user interface is much much faster compare to 8220 not to mention with the pearl 1 Generation. Very recommended and been ejoying in using the device.

  • abigail it comes down to personal preferance, do want to use a handset that has a qwerty keypad or a 14 button keypad. just to get one thing clear the pearl 9105 supports wifi b/g/n which is better and going to become the standard for wifi, RIM were good enough to pack it into the pearl 9105. in terms of everything else the bold 9700 and the pearl 9105 are exactly the same in features and quality. hope this helps you

  • I am one of the people out there who has never owned a BB.I know about them but they have never met my needs and to most people they were crporate buisness handsets,yet this little gem has caught my eye..Reading back over the comments i see its caught the eye of a few people who have nevr owned a BB. There are a few questions that i cant find out; 1) Screen size is one,ive read every comment and been to o2 website and can find resolution but not size ie 2.36 inches or 2.6 inches. 2) Is video smooth and not juddery or jerky when recording ie does recorded video shot by bb playback smoothly on a comp. 3) How many equalisers does it have please, Thank you for any help and as you can see why perhaps i have not wanted a BB in past been a multimedia person as well as other smartfone goodies..

  • This is a very cool phone. Miniature version of the BB Bold. but is above my price range. Texting in BB Pearl's are quite fast than the BB Bold or other phones with standard keypads. Satisfaction is what you get when you buy this phone.

  • The Torch is quite a phone I agree, however it's a pretty big beast and heavy in the pocket, whilst it's a treat to finally see RIM produce a phone with a 5 megapixel camera and greater internal memory (although yet to see whether apps can be stored on the 4gb internal memory) it's a shame not to see it in the usual lighter chassis as see with the Pearl, Curve and Bold, but this is probably just a stepping stone as they works towards a model that will emcompass the best of each current model in a new and competative package.

  • Tough one to call, before purchasing the 9105 i did weigh this up against the latest models out, the 9105 edges out by a nose, it's smaller, lighter, longer battery life, better screen definition, and a faster CPU in my opinion, but the Bold does have greater internal memory, which is useful for applications, until we get a firmware update that allows us to store apps to memory cards instead, my advice is if your after a solid, fast Blackberry and want to run alot of apps, then the Bold is your best bet, but if you want a phone that can play high definition videos, and runs faster, then the Pearl is your phone, most models now do the same thing it's subtle differences in the package dependent on how you use it that'll define your choice of Pearl, Bold, Storm, or Curve.

  • The phone comes with free navigation via Blackberry Maps, however this is a basic application and not as advanced as OVI maps, and relies on a working internet connection. Depends what you are after really. It won't replace in-car navigation, and won't call directions but it does rely on a GPS compass and you can follow your route which is marked out for you much like google maps, which works just as well. The GPS runs pretty quickly, which can't be faulted, for what it is and what it does, it's sound GPS mapping, with map and satellite viewing.

  • Battery Life - This is pretty good on moderate and more than moderate use. Heavy usage may drain the battery considerably but it will get you through the day. I've used mine on weekends without charging, from the battery being fully charged on Saturday morning, I've done a few calls, many texts, watched part of a film, used the GPS briefly, checked emails and browsed on the internet for about 20mins total, listened to music... it has 2 bars of battery left this morning on Monday. Another example I watched an entire film bout an hour and a half, it drained 2 bars on the battery. Basically this is phone that can substantial use and still last before the battery goes dead. I've used similar smart phones and used them about the same as I've described above, but the battery has died by the afternoon, or early evening after being fully charged overnight before. As much as the battery life is good, it's still pretty obvious that hours spent browsing on the net or GPS on it and too may calls too mention will drain it to the point of it flashing low battery or have it die completely so really at the end of the day it's common sense as to what can be catergorised as moderate or heavy use, but hope I've given a rough guide. It lasts but can go just as quick, it is a smart phone after all, but compared with others it does have the edge. I'd give it 8/10. More to come.

  • To summarise first here are the bullet points - User interface - First time user to blackberry but picked it up pretty quickly, it's simple fast and concise. 9/10 Display - In a world now dominated by touchscreens, this small screen with sharp resolution, copes well with most displays, from facebook, to web browsing on the go, and even full length movies, small the screen maybe it copes admirably and clear with out choppiness. Even pictures appear crisp on the screen, like having miniture HD in the palm of your hand. 8/10 Applications. At the end of the day its a Blackberry, if you fancy apps then go with other models, that's your call. RIM continue to encourage functionality and although it has substantial internal memory you don't want to go filling it with alot of gimmicks that last for minutes or days and clog up your phone so it slows down. The usual fare is on the phone or available to download, facebook links to the contacts and organiser and so the fun becomes a handy extention of your social online shenanigans. But if you want hundreds of apps then go with an Iphone. For functionality I'm giving them 7/10 it does the job with apps and won't compromise on performance. 7/10 Calling/texting/emailing. This users experience, the phone performs effortlessly, the volume has extra tweaks in the settings so there is the option to get more if hard to hear. The speaker phone option needs work wasn't terribly clear with the microphone on that setting, the actual speaker is loud and clear, but the mic... well as you will see from this review it's probably the only complaint I have ans seeing as so much has been packed into this small chassis, I won't hold that against RIM. 9/10 Media. Though not their strong suit in the past this is a model that has surpassed previous experiences with Nokia, Samsung, Windows based phones and Sony. As mentioned earlier the phone plays movies well... very well, okay small screen but taking a movie from the computer into the memory card on the phone then watching it... effortless, no hours converting or uploading, 5 mins and job done. Like wise music is quick and easy to sync and navigate. Sound has plenty of options with the equaliser and bass, the library equally easy to navigate and doesn't compromise on speed either, no matter how any songs are on it be it 100 to a thousand. Pictures look fabulous on the small screen easy to zoom and select as wallpapers, if the picture is to big zoom into a portion of it select save as wallpaper and whats on the screen at the time even if its a quarter of the image you might have panned across too, that will be the same image on your wallpaper. Extremely user friendly. No faff, no frills, just what you want how you want. 10/10 More to come soon :)

  • Couple of things, I've had this phone a week now and it's one of the most outstanding handsets I've ever had. Thing is, where is the review on here and why is this site and many others not accurately communicating what this phone is capable of, for example geotagging on the photos... it can do this, yet no one says it can??   • I got the Pearl 3g last week, i have a fairly new B/B storm but prefer the keyboard type phone rather than touch. This is a great wee phone, It's like everything i need and use in such a smart looking phone. I work for a mobile network and also use iphone and compared to this it is very fast, very user friendly and i find much better all round. Very impresssed :o)

  • Got my Pearl 9105 today , think the keypads are just way to small :S Probz takes me time to get used to it :S The joystick ( the sensitive thingy in the middle ) are not as sensitive as my bold or curve :S I prefer my bold , or the curve x

  • I bought this phone two weeks back, and this is my first blackberry. Its the same as the Bold 2 (9700) as regards the OS is concerned. I bought it because it's a nice looking model, and my preference for sleek handsets. You will not miss your qwerty, it only takes getting used to. Nice phone overall.

  • comparison reveals that the 9100 has the - Half-QWERTY keyboard. The 9105 just has the normal 9 key text keypad. Enlarge the pic to see.

RIM Canada, got big surprised with BB demands in Indonesia, it were sold like peanuts, from high school students, house wifes, business men used these amazing smart phones, they like the BB Messenger mostly and FB/ Twitter and Push Email in it of course. Indonesian users can get link to the BB network thru the operators by SMS, on daily, weekly or monthly basic. About 50cents/USD/Day - 15USD/Month

  • I haven't tried it out, but I do understand why battery life would be an issue. It has a high res screen, 3G the same processor as the Bold 9700 and the batter is only like 1150maH (I think). The battery is enough to get your through a full day of use but probably not enough to get you through the next day. It doesn't matter to me since I charge my phones every night but I would love to test the 9700. Everyone says the 9700 has the best battery life in a BB.

  • While I agree that Blackberry phones haven't been really innovative or anything, they are really reliable and stable. They lack in the fancy looks of more recent OS's but, even the iPhone OS has stayed the same for 4 generations. The only differences in the 4th is "multitasking" and the wallpaper thing. I prefer a phone that is stable and covers my needs. For me that's the Blackberry. While, usually they make 2 versions: 1 for GSM and 1 for CDMA, These 2 were made to target 2 sets of people: Alphanumeric users and QW ER TY users. I never likes SurePress but multitap on a alphanumeric keypad is as fast as a regular QWERTY device for me. Don't buy it if you don't want to. And not everyone uses FM radio anymore, so many apps for streaming, so no point really.

  • I'm happy that a manufacturer finally released a phone that gives the option of both a keypad and a qwerty. The traditional keypad is something I've missed tremendously on my nokia and sony-e smartphones. Didn't change to blackberry because I text and type single handed and hate the qwerty pad on a phone. Thank you Blackberry. Can't wait to get one!

  • I'm not happy that the 9105 has a T9 keypad and not the traditional qwerty keyboard like all the other BlackBerry models. I'm definitely leaning towards getting the 9100. I'll probably buy out the last 10 months of my contract just to get my hands to it (9100). Most likely it'll come in Australia by December 2010. I'm excited because I loved the original Pearl 8100, especially its size BUT the features was horrendous compared to the other models such as the 8300 thus, I immediately upgraded my phone once the 8300 was released in Australia.

  • Well, to keep it short, because I couldnt post anything due to "spam". 1. According more recent rumored devices, the Slider is the one with a touchscreen plus a slide out qwerty keypad. You can search it as Bold Slider or 9800. 2. According to BBLeaks, the Storm2'2 and the 9700 will be getting official OS6 support. Not sure about others. 3. SureType is like T9 which is predictive text. Type a few keys and the phone "knows" what you are going to type and types it for you. Multitap is when you press each number onces, twice or more times to type out a letter you want. 4. The 9100 is regular SureType QW ER TY keypad while the 9105 is the one with the normal 123 keypad.

  • I expected it to be smaller than the Pearl 9100 since it had only a numerical keyboard, but all they did was to place bigger T9 keys on the same device. Really disappointed about this device´s size. Lets wait for a better pricing.

  • Honestly, yeah! The Bold 9700 is nice but this new curve (in dark red fade to black) looks nice! It offers the same specs, is said to support OS6 and is nice and sleek. The qwerty keypad of the first Pearls (suretype) is RIM's version of T9 from the regular 123(ABC) keypads. But I find T9 easier to use since most phones with T9 offer 123 number pads. Multitap on my Nokia N85 was easy, as was on my Nokia 5610, SE w705 and SE c902. And QWERTY on my Gemini and iPod touch are just as fast, except I make more mistakes on the iPod xD.I also owned a SE P1i which also has the QW ER TY keypad... but no SureType, so I was fast on it to. I can basically adapt to any keyboard with my big hands (but the 9000 has the most comfortable keypad ever!). I just think Multitap beats SureType and Multitap is probably easier on this keyboard. I guess my main reason for prefering multitap over SureType is because I type in 2 languages (english and spanish) and the auto-correct would change some spanish words to english ones or vice-versa.

  • I definitely would prefer this over the 9100. SureType isn't my thing. But with the conventional Alphanumeric keypad this one has, multitap will keep me as fast as a regular QWERTY device. This would go great with my 8520!
