Use a successful model like the HTC Legend, tack on some of today's new technologies to make it even better (not just fancier) like 4G capability, wifi calling and touch-pad charging and re-release it. Don't change anything else. You will receive a wave of happy customers. Maybe even throw in the old tried--and-true T9-texting again. My Legend is absolutely the best phone I have ever owned! I always receive compliments like, "That's a cool little phone" and "Hey, is that the new iPhone!?" When apps upgrade themselves and are no longer compatible with Android 2.2, I simply drop that app. Sorry for your loss, Viber and Hangouts, but Line still works. So does Google Voice and a myriad of others. I REFUSE to "upgrade" my device at unnecessary cost to the inferiority of today's flagship phones that won't even let me swap out my battery simply to follow the trendy programmers who only cater to the folks seeking instant gratification and the next best thing. I like my Legend. It works great. It's tough as hell (no case on mine nor a screen protector...doesn't need one). My battery still lasts all day, and when I run it down with a lot of use, I just swap my battery and keep on moving, laughing at all those "trendsetters" tethered to the nearest power outlet. I'm keeping my Legend til it explodes!

prolly one of the best phones ever made, 5 and a half years since i own mine, still rocking it like a pro, has never been in a case, has been dropped on stairs, stepped on, deliberately thrown around to see if it would ever gonna break. it's unibody is full of dents and scratches, all buttons and jog dial sensor work like it's day one, battery lasts marginally less than when i bought it, SAME BATTERY, display perfectly intact, Works 24/7 hosting my business nr, just WOW htc

Only Android 2.2 is officially supported by the Legend. I heard there are hacked roms where you can run 4.0 but haven't tried them myself.

Try to spray some electrical contacts cleaner in between the buttons. Do it also while pressing the buttons. Turn off your phone before doing this! It worked for me :-)

Guys, ever considered that this is already a three year old phone? I had mine for 3 years already, I bought it on the day it was released in our country. It WAS an amazing phone 3 years ago, well it's still amazing but that's not the point. Because of the innovations, it is quite obvious that this is already an outdated phone. I'm not lying when I said that I have this phone for 3 years already, it fell a lot of times but the battery and touch screen is still good. It just can't compare to the new phones right now cause as I said, it's already 3 years old. Sorry for the redundancy, english is not my native language.

Had my htc unlocked, week after I did an undate I can't receive or make calls and only sometimes can send or receive text. It seems to that it defaulted back to the orginal providers. If you can, avoid this phone. It was my first smartphone, got it on a cheap plan, so I really wasn't expecting much, but I didn't expect it to lag so badly. It sometimes lags so much that I can't even unlock it because it just freezes. I had to remove most of my widgets from the homescreen and switch off the little UI animations and it still lags a bit. It does everything else I expected it to, I wasn't expecting much from a budget phone, but the lag makes the phone unworkable. I bought it shipped with Android 2.2 and I'm guessing that's the reason why it's been lagging so bad, because apparently it used to be a great phone under 2.1. So I wouldn't recommend this phone for people. There are way better budget phones available on the market - this one is definitely not worth it.

Legend good once when using original 2.1 os, after update to 2.2, Legend SUCK! slow, lag, can't downgrade, more lag when install application in SD card, lag when view photo, slow and inaccurate camera focus, poor customer support to fix this lag issue. After use near 2 year, screen become insensitive sometime and not able to drag unlock screen, need remove battery to recover, not sure is software or hardware issue, after reset factory default, software keep as 2.2 not 2.1, problem still not solved......

When I am composing a text message and I try to go back and edit by placing the cursor where I want it, it jumps all over the screen and it will NOT go where I want it. Sometimes it's taken me half a darned hour to get it where I want it and then I don't know how I did it. I can't get it to the end of the message to erase backwards and I can't place it properly it just seems to jump by line. Don't understand it. Have I mistakenly set something up this way? If so I'd like to UNDO it! Wish they had a delete button on the keyboard too!

If by restart you mean reset you will find it by going to Settings from the Menu button, then SD and Phone Storage. The last item on the bottom of that list is Factory data reset.

I've had two for 8 months. Our first smart phones. Easy to operate. EasDownside 1: No 850Mhz UMTS 3G. Downside 2: Very poor wifi performance. Receives signals 20db lower than HTC Explorer. This makes a big difference and basically means you need to be within 10 metres, line of sight of the wifi base. Htc tells me it's like comparing an old technology car to a new one. Trouble is wifi technology hasn't changed in eight years. I've concluded it's a design fault with the wifi antenna inside the metal case. Cofirmed my findings by checking the field strengths around each phone when transmitting. If you are going to use wifi often give this one a miss. Otherwise, as a phone it's ok. for telephony and data.

Awesome phone really: I wanted to get a blackberry bold but decided for this phone: one of the best decisions in my life. Except for one thing: it keeps getting stuck, rebooting by itself or you'd tap on the screen and it will do nothing for a few seconds and then it would suddenly do everything you wanted to do really quick. (okay: it keeps is maybe a lot but at least 3-4times/week it reboots/crashes/...) E-mailed with costumer service, they couldn't help me, brought it back to the store they couldn't help me, ... anyone? I love this phone but I'm thinking of buying a new HTC in the summer if it goes on like this...

I got this phone back in August 2011 second hand, and I was impressed with it, despite the USB port being damaged/defective. Pros: Great phone, good for starters into Android and Smartphones (like myself), durable unibody aluminum shell, Slick looking design, great camera (5MP) Cons: slow compared to current models, but can handle daily tasks well, so stay away from games, which tend to lag a lot. Video quality is mediocre despite the decent camera, the flash causes a lot of unnecessary glare on the lens, night photos are a weak point due to the glare.

This is a great phone. I have had to for a year now and I really can not say that I do'nt like anything. However it does take some time to turn on. However other then that.. really? The camera is great.. seriously and the battery life can last me up to 3 days (if I use it only a little) on stand by expect up to 4-5 days. Based on my experience and research on other smatphones this is your safest buy in my opinion.

This is my first smart phone, it was okay normally, but i rooted it and put cm7 with android 2.3.7 and its amazing. I also havent had any SD card issues before like everyone else seems to be complaining of? Must be ignorance. Format the SD cards into FAT32.

All the allegations on the HTC LEGEND are false. The wifi connection is very powerful. it shows up all the available network connections. secondly the HTC touch is at par of Iphone. It has great metal body, excellent sound. why to spend lofty amount on Iphone for a plastic body and reserved operating system ??

I would not recommend the HTC Legend for gaming. I can't comment on the LG but the HTC Legend is a pretty basic phone now. I like it but the lack of a decent amount of internal memory means I simply don't have space for bigger apps (even when they support move-to-SD there is still phone memory consumed. Also, many games are not supported on this phone due to the low specs. If you want to play decent games you are going to have to spend more money ;) That said, it's a great little phone. It's a workhorse not a performance machine though.

With the 2.2 update i had issues with slow response. Turn on usb debugging plug into your computer for 30 mins and hey presto, works like magic again!

The screen is scratch resistant, if you treat it well but the metal body is easily scratched on sharp o hard surfaces, i'd recommend getting a soft case for it such as a silicon one

This is a decent phone, its not flash, it is decent. If you want a smartphone that looks nice and does the job of a phone this is a wise choice. It plays most android market games but its 600 mhz processer struggles with 3d graphics. In normal use it will last a good day on battery, i dont know waht is up with all the battery complaints, it is fine. The design of this phone is really nice but the metal case can sometimes intercept and interupt the signal, but only in weak areas. There is one major flaw with this phone, its internal memory, or rather its lack of it, 150mb, seriously!!! Adobe flash takes up 13mb on its own! After downloading two pages of low memory games i had to be really careful about how much memory i was using, i do not understand the reason for this as the lower spec htc wildfire has around 400mb, that is a decent amount, i have an htc desire now and that has the same problem, not quite so bad but still it is very annoying! It would be very useful if the android market would move the entire app onto the sd card when you tell it to instead of leaving some of it behind! Overall this is a good phone for a starter smartphone, if you are looking for something a bit higher spec i would recommend the htc desire s or htc amaze

Worst phone ive ever had. It lasted me a painful year before it got a few drops of water on it and spat the dummy. From the very start it had issues, often freezing and slow to respond. The wifi took hours to connect if it worked at all, and had to be extremely close to any router to get Coverage. The on screen keyboard is a terrible imitation of the iphone's, and the keys toward the sides dont often respond. Just dont get it. Save up and get an iphone, or stick with a trusty candybar phone, the htc legend will only disappoint you.

One of the first great phones to come out of HTC. Screen is responsive, HTC sense awesome and battery last a full hard work day of 9hrs. Optical mouse is handy when editing text. Drawback is low on internal memory for apps.

HTC come up with some great designs but thier lack of support and didgy workmanship really leave a bad taste in my mouth. This model is prone to a couple of bugs. One being dropping reception and the other, which is the biggy is the screen. Guarantted after 12 monthe the screen will go and you wont be able to pull down the notification bar. Then when ever you press anywhere on the screen the notification bar will drop down. Google it and you'll see what i mean. Stay away from this phone and HTC in general. They are pretty bad news.

The only flaw I found was that in order to answer the phone when it is locked you slide it up to answer and down to ignore. Of course this means if it's in your pocket, as you get it out you will either answer or ignore the caller depending on which way it is faced. Using maps uses the internet so it will use your data allowance or not work if you're not connected. And as for the sd card of 8gb the phone is a bit old and doesn't support it properly. Swap the card to a 4gb one and see what happens. Otherwise check that things are being saved to the sd card and not the phone memory.

This phone is awesome! It only make me satisfy day by day. I recommend this phone to anyone who is in doubt. Only major drawback is the lack of internal memory. But that can be resolved by creating a ext3 partion in SD after a rooting process. This phone is an all-rounder. That's why it is still holds the 8th position in all Android phone benchmarking. It is really a LEGEND!!!

I've got this phone because its features, looks and aluminium for case. Its fast, entertaining because it has got the Android OS 2.2 upgradable 2.3. However the network connection seems to be the culprit in this phone. If it drops out, never connects back again, regardless the network its hook up with. There are apps in the market that can do this for you. They'll take any song you have in your playlist and make a ringtone out of it just with the click of a button. I've got ringdroid myself and it is definitely loud enough and long enough.

If you connect the phone to your computer and go into media and then notifications you should be able to transfer a song or tone of your choice. After disconnecting go back into notifications and your song should be there. If not, then I would say you can't change it.

I had Legend for nearly 12 months, absolutely fantastic in all aspects other than speed. Just upgraded to Froyo (Voda AU), worked very well. ROM upgrade caused the weird message (reverse thread), but Froyo update fixed this right away. You need ROM upgrade in order to upgrade to Froyo. It brings extra fetures and slight battery improvement. This phone hit solid concrete a number of times and other than minor wear on the edges it survived just fine. Highly recommended!

Rubbishi about Android 2.2 "Froyo" slowing down the phone. I installed it via the official on-the-air update and it works fantastically. It sux it doesn't support Flash 10 and it needs more grunt for video editing but, otherwise, a great little phone. And I do mean "little". It does what all the bigger smartphones do, in a sexy aluminium enclosure. First time HTC customer, after a pre-Android aluminium Samsung (nice but clumsy slider, with Nokia software) and a string of poor quality Nokia handsets. Also have had substandard (in terms of call quality) SonyEricsson and Motorola.

And if money is REALLY not an issue, wait for the htc sensation, which will likely cost loads and loads of money (more than $700 at least) but it has the absolute best specs out there.

I upgraded my android for this phone to 2.2. That made it really slow. But i have found a workaround. Use ADW Launcher. Makes my fone as fast as it was with 2.1. Thought this tip might help for people with similiar experience.

This phone is awesome, its aluminum case makes it feel indestructible, i have mine on phantom black color and it looks like a stealth fighter (he he, just kiddin'), anyway it looks great on full black. The CPU could've been at least 800Mhz, but if u spend some time on the xda forums, you will be able to root it and then overclock it to that speed in no time, just as i did with mine, now its working stably @787Mhz ans with the new rom CM7, it feels as fast as an iphone... its incredible how much faster this phone can perform, besides from the stock rom. My advice: buy it, root it, overclock it and enjoy the full smartphone experience with this ice cold aluminum phone!

Pri, my flatmate has a Torch, and I have the Legend. She still does the same old stuff on her Blackberry as she ever did on her old blackberry Bold. The Legend is more socially connected and has a wider range of Apps, but she uses hers for work so she doesn't have the social connections to Facebook, Gmail, sharing photos, editing photos, uploading to Picasa etc that I use on my phone. Plus, a lot of businesses will not allow any other devices on their network, so if you use your phone for work with a coroporation or business, you probably wont get provisioned on the Network with a Legend.

PDude, that sucks! :( I have heard of rare cases of a 'batch' of parts may be distributed to a whole area, or even a whole country... (when I got a Nokia 6700 classic - there were complaints all over this site in the Opinions section - but all complaints were from one particular place in Europe - and all had very specific problems, none of which I encountered at all with my handset) So ultimately that model didn't sell well in Europe and had quite a bad reputation, but it was really popular in Australia, I loved my handest and it lasted me over 2 years. The only thing I could recommend to you would be to contact HTC directly (I just googled "Contact HTC" and the first result was location specific ie; Australia.. (becasue Google's clever and does location specific results..) So if you do the same, and you're in Canada for example - Google should help you with contacting HTC specifically there.. Let HTC know your phone is currently in for repair, you've got a loan phone with the same problem, and let them know you're concerned this is an isolated issue becasue so many other people from International Web see what they say.. Have they had many reports of this? Is there a swap-centre there where they'll swap your phone if it's still fualty after repair? - There's no harm in having a chat with the HTC person, and at least asking them what you should do, or if they can point you in the right direction? I reckon they're on such a winning streak right now (unlike poor old Charlie Sheen) - WINNING! - they should definitely want to help you. :) Good luck.

I should extend my post to say that I sent the phone away for repair. The loner phone I got to use was a brand new HTC Legend. Using this brand new HTC Legend, I had the exact same issue. Can't use the phone because it reboots the moment a call comes in or if I dial a number and make a call. This brand new phone had absolutely nothing on it. No apps or add-ons and it still rebooted so much that no calls could be made. This issue does seem to be location specific so you can get lucky and be in an area where the phone will work fine but when travelling you take the risk of running into the same issue I face. Again both of these HTC Legends are running Android 2.1 as 2.2 in unavailable yet in my area which is another bone of contention with me because this issue might be resolved if I could get the update.

yes, i agree with you. I just customized and covered the phone with a thin layer of plastic sheet and carved the openings..now it will be protected from scratches..i took it to a small shop who designs scratch guard covers to protect the screens/parts of touch gadgets. its perfect and my phone is protected from hairline scratches.:)

No Mate. You won't get a new body for your phone becasue you can't take the inner parts out and swap them over.. lol :) You do not want to get a 'new look', or black body either, because it's Aluminium under black paint and it sounds like you're not using a protective cover... so you would end up with a black phone with very clear silver scratches all over it after a short time. I have the silver/Aluminium model and use a black silicone soft-case and screen protective plastic sheet. No scratches at all after 1 year... Good luck! :)

Pdude... You need to take your handset back to your seller! I've have my Legend for 6 months now and it's AMAZING. Not one single glitch. My handset has not been rooted or tampered with, I'm in Australia, and have updated to 2.2 just last week. 2.2 has made the handset faster (several million lines of code have been made more 'efficient'), it supports live wallpapers now, and I can move Apps to SD card. This is truly an amazing handset and you need to take yours back to your seller and demand a repacement. Good luck Dude! I hope you love your new handset when it arrives. :)

Really disappointed with the phone.I'm waiting for the 2.1 update (I'm in Canada I have no idea what the delay is), which I'm hoping will fix the rebooting issue. Periodically while I'm on a call or a call comes in the phone reboots. The worst is when I'm in certain areas the phone reboots every time a call comes in, the phone will ring once then reboot. This constant reboot issue is location specific as when I'm at home I get random reboots but when I go to visit my parents I get constant reboots. I sent the phone for repairs and all they did was re-flash the rom. Today my 2nd day back with the phone it rebooted in the middle of a call. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone.

Hi guys, got my Black Legend with Froyo yesterday from Vodafone Australia, extremely happy with it... Main points so far - Great Screen - Customization - Froyo brings a more complete Android experience - Build quality is greet but feels small in the hand - Battery isn't great, i'll probably get a 2nd and keep it in my wallet - People and social media integration - Wi-Fi Hotspot - Very smooth and quick - Android apps have gotten ALOT better since a year ago when i had a HTC Magic.

After firmware update, to ensure a good setup: 1) Backup your data. 2) Hard reset phone to factory default. 3) Re-configure phone settings. 4) Restore data (from step 1). 5) Do not use 'Live wallpaper' (resource hungry). 6) Do not use 'Task Killer'. (read somewhere that from v2.1 and onwards, 'Task killer' became ineffective. Only use it for poorly written apps. If possible, uninstall and do not use the poorly written apps & 'Task killer'). 7) Try not to use 'App2SD'. Read/write speed to internal memory is much faster than External memory. 8) Only use Froyo compatible apps. 9) Reduce apps' update frequency. E.g. change from 15mins to 60mins. 10) Press Menu, Settings -> Display -> Animation. Change it to 'some animations' or 'no animations'. 11) Reduce the usage of 'widgets'. Because 'widgets' needs to update themselves from time to time. Usage of 'shortcuts' should be okay. 12) Try not to use interface overlays. 'HTC sense' by itself took up some resources. If you use other overlays (E.g. Iphone, Windows7). Availability of resources will be affected.

Sorry to know that issue of the HTC legend notification bar problem again, this issue concerns some of them not all. I had the same problem with 2 new phones which I had to return back to the retailer who became angry, and guess what he bet me and went to get one from his neighbour and asked me to pull the notification bar down of this new phone and pretended that I could take it for free if I manage to pull it down but I made it easily as this is normal. By the way, when it gets downs for whatever reason it is (one of which is to tap on an empty area in the home screen), you can no longer get raid of it until you receive a call or you restart the phone. Without this workarounds you can still use the trackball. I finished with taking this phone but I do not recommend it to any one else because it has the following problems: 1 - The antenna is very weak indoor; I had SonyEricsson k750i, Nokia N-Gage and 6220c in the same office and all worked fine, but HTC Legend really doesn't worth its price. 2 - The loudspeaker is in the back, and the sound volume is relatively weak and when you put it on the desk on its back (which is normal); you can imagine what you'll get if you receive a call and you are away, just two offices, from your desk. 3 - The screen gets some dots spread over its entire surface when you leave the stand-by mode and you need to turn the light of the phone even in well let area in order to see what appears on the screen

I had the same problem of reversed message thread, i.e. oldest message first, and new message at the very end of the thread, and having to scroll down to the newest message. This was already making me hate my beloved legend. However, the issue was solved after I upgraded to Android 2.2. Now new sms is still at the end of the thread, but that's exactly the point in the message thread where I'll be taken when I open new sms, No scrolling is necessary any more

Before upgrading to Android 2.2 do a factory reset. Then you have no problems regarding performance and the battery lasts longer than with 2.1.

Superb phone. Got this for about a month. Updated to 2.2 and not experiencing any slowdown or delay in interface, it actually got better. But I have to say that typing is a mess nowhere near what you would expect if you own an iPhone or ipod touch . Without using the predictive input when typing you have no chance in hell writing even a sms. But the prediction engine with editable user dictionary kinda makes up for it. otherwise amazing phone full of sensors, gorgeous screen, great audio quality both in phonecalls and music(have to say this sounds a lot better then my iPod touch) and the build quality is nothing short of stellar. The comment is true. I've also had the same problem, after the update to 2.2 my legend got slower. I've read some dedicated forums and it seems that one solution is to activate usb debbuging mode, at least in my case it helped. Probably htc will sent another update to fix this problem. Offtopic: I've owned before nokia, motorola, alcatel and sony ericsson phones, the legend is by far the best phone i had up until now. Best regards!

turn off all animations..dont dump apps, turn off live wall papers...its seem to be okay..its frustrating when my phone hangs after call n not able end the call..n when during call i need to keep my phone straight to my face in order to cut the call before a call goes away..by the time it rings for the receiver..

&, iv checked my SD Cards, its still "holding" files & application i had. im able to view my photos & videos, but i cant get back those apps i "moved" to SD card. by connecting the cable fr my legend to pc, alot of files shows up & it still maintain the same files i had b4 the reset, meaning all the files are still there, but when im searching for those apps through phone, i cant find them.

I've updated my Legend to 2.2 last night & done a hard factory reset,turn off the animation n my phone works better n no lagging or anything..Wifi signal has been improved..flash lights,now video record with flash light turn on..many more..I'm glad that i upgraded to 2.2..be sure to back up all your phone contacts/files to your memory card before you update.. :-)

Froyo 2.2 is great, at 1st i had been using my Legend with the 2.2 update for over a month and was finding the phone getting lagge and slow. My battery also started to drain quicker than before, so i thought it was time to follow the reviews and complete a hardware reset (i removed the micro SDHC card 1st), now the my Legend is quick, slick and fast & is now running like a dream, i failed to complete a back up so all previous downloaded apps, previous contacts & text messages that was saved to sim and phone are gone. But overall HTC should advise before completing the update a hardware reset is strongly advised to gain the Legend full potential.

U can find the "Hard Reset" @ Setting>SD & Phone Storage>Factory data reset. And now, my problem is the "Back up" option is missing, it used to be in Setting>Privacy>Back up data. Now after upgrade to ver 2.2 the Privacy option is gone. Can anyone help? Thanks.

i've finally got my Legend updated yesterday. :) after the update, thing runs faster & smoother. no more laggy in Angry Birds, contact pictures show perfectly while calling (cause previously my contact picture went blur on the screen while calling). after setting the "live wallpaper", i feel that the swipe from page to page is lil not smooth & as well as pulling up & down in "All Apps". While going into the "All Messages", it also took me about 2 second to appear all the messages. Guys, after doing the "hard reset", does it really help more on the performance? & where should i do the reset then? Overall, im satisfied with the update. :)

After Froyo upgrade, things seems to be faster. To ensure good setup and the things i did: 1) Backup your data. 2) Hard reset phone to factory default. 3) Re-configure settings. 4) Restore data (from step 1). 5) Do not use 'Live wallpaper' (resource hungry). 6) Do not use 'Task Killer' (read somewhere that from v2.1 and onwards, 'Task killer' became ineffective. Only use it for poorly written apps. If possible, uninstall and stop using the poorly written apps and the 'Task killer'). 7) Try not to use 'App2SD', read/write speed to internal memory is much faster than External memory. 8) Only use Froyo compatible apps. 9) Reduce apps' update interval.

maybe you forgot to reset your phone first, but you need to backup your data before doing that..then reset your phone so that all the other software that you have installed and is not compatible with froyo will be removed..try this out, hope this help..

I think there is some truth to the rumors about the Legend being discontinued. I was about to buy one last week, but the stores in Singapore all said they didn't have stock, and that it was not going to be replenished anymore. I think it's a bad sign if it's true. It might mean that there's a major defect of some sort.

This phone is probably one of the better built android phones out there. As far as features go, it exceeded my expectations in every way apart from the camera. It has a 5MP camera and the photos it takes are fairly good however for a phone of this caliber I expected HD video and its not!. Also processor could be a tad faster, at 600MHz its very fast but not as fast as Nexus 1 or Iphone 4(1GHz). The one piece aluminum uni-body is great it makes the phone very impact resistance which definitely add value to the phone. Overall, great phone, stylish look, very resistant, Android 2.1 Amazing! waiting to get 2.2 on Legend. I would give this phone a 8.5/10 (due to processor speed and video camera)

Excellent phone. feature rich and extremely user friendly. Found it better in use than the iphone 3g. Used it for 5 months. No problems what so ever. Only issue was the ear piece - due to the unibody, the ear piece is hidden inside the body and the shell tends to rubs against the ear. Heartily recommended.

HTC said that an update will come this year, but I don't trust them anymore. You can root your phone and write a custom Froyo version on it, but this will probably void your warranty. Install the free RockPlayer; 3. camera clarity is good for a mobile phone, but not exceptional. A Samsung i900 (also with 5MP) takes much sharper pictures but the Legend records videos much better. Videos as very good on this HTC; 4. 2-3 days on average use if you turn off WiFi or Bluetooth when not needed and don't spend too much playing games. WiFi and some games eat most battery power. Hi all, for those of you unhappy about the battery life, just type in the google search bar "htc legend extended battery". Here you will see options to buy a bigger more powerful battery. Then you will onnly be charging your phone once every 3 - 4 days with moderate or heavy use. They do these extended batteries for most smart phones. I will buy one when I get my HTC Desire in two months. Most smart phones have poor batteries but the extended batteries solve it.

It's way better than the iPhone. The personalization slaps iPhone on the face harshly. Plus, the battery is longer and external. No iTunes as mentioned. But there's one drawback. Although it's Android V2.1 (Eclair) (which is to my opinion the BEST OS), that Legend might not yet get the upgrade V2.2 (Froyo). Very true review. -Battery life: it's common sense to enable wifi and gps only when you need it. That's the same for every smartphone. When you use GPS navigation with iGo it only lasts for about 4 hours if you don't connect the phone to the car charger; -accelerometer: in the menus, it doesn't work, and that's no problem! -touch screen: indeed in time you have to clean the screen sometimes, because sweat or dirt from your fingers will affect the responsibility a bit (and only a bit!); There's no fault with this phone and I never had an issue regarding overheating. Surely legend not at all heat at the time of using the phone. I mainly charged my phone through USB Charging via mains charger produce some heat it is normal for the phone with metal body. Previously I have E51 it will be very hot when compared to my htc legend. Mainly heating is produced by charger which has higher output current Nokia E51 chager has 800mA output Legend charger has 1000mA output Nokia 3110c charger has 100mA output when i charge my E51 with nokia 3110c charger it takes nearly 8 to 10hours to charge my phone but my E51 is at normal room temperature. But with my E51 charger it finished with in 1 to 1.30hrs to charge my phone but the phone becomes very hot. Compare to my E51 heating is very less in HTC Legend. Normally the heating problem on charging time is mainly depends upon charger not a phone. Mainly Nokia phone has lesser output current except E-Series.

This is an awesome phone! I had it for a while now and must say I am very impressed by the features and simplicity of using it. Calls are loud and clear and the battery life is good lasts 2days, if I don't play with it constantly. If you want a big screen go for desire, but legend does the job well, in a smaller attractive form factor.

Hi Please try the below method to improve the battery life to almost double, which worked well in my Legend. It works 100% Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.) Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off. After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone. now.... with the phone fully powered off... 1. Unplug the charger. 2. Wait until led goes off. 3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1. 4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle. Typically only about 1 minute. though. Good design, OS is strong but pretty much same design on any Android 2.2 phone, screen excellent, call quality good. Major major downside however is that wireless is extremely weak. I bought myself this phone and my wife a wildfire. The wildfire is consistently 30% stronger and more reliable. Given this phone is made to stay connected I'm real disappointed in this major design flaw. I've been using smartphones for over 15 years in as a product manager for some major cos. including HP and Microsoft. This sort of problem should not happen = iPhone problem for Apple but with no solution.

decent phone, though the signal strength may not be the best and when calling the call quality is quite decent. Battery usually lasts one day but if you use it very carefully im sure you can take it off for another day or so... (but only on a full charge of course). Secondly the WiFi and Bluetooth seem good and otherwise okay not the best, actually i haven't really tested the bluetooth (only on one occasion), then again the wifi is an everyday thing and it does good. Sometimes it starts to glitch and end up disconnecting at times when you really needed it BOTTOM LINE: this smartphone looks great, throws great call quality, and offers good apps to pass time, but alas fails with signal strength and sometimes screws with the WIFi... PS> don't just take my word for it though...

I've been using this phone since may, and it's been great. At first I had to charge it once a day but now I've effectively learned how to app kill and toggle 3g/wifi so I can use it for 3-4 days without charging. Multi tasking and web browsing is billiant and the camera is decent for the size of the device.

I bought a HTC Legend the other day specifically for the internet. The reception is awful... Wifi continually drops out, and you have to nurse it by restarting the wifi connection to get back on. The 3G reception is also bad, continually dropping the signal while other phones and wifi devices work perfectly right next to it. Some people say bad antenna, others say a bug in android (one that's been open on the google forum for over a year)... Regardless, in my opinion, if you want internet and Wifi - don't buy this phone. It's a shame, I love the design. I took the phone back in disgust... but that's another story...

Hi all.I m from Europe. I bought htc legend, but i got problem with sound when i recieve calls. i got random lose of sound and weak sound no terble and bass. I checked all options and still problem exist. Some ppl told me that the problem is with GSM and 3g network conflict, but my mobile network support only GSM. To sum it up, as a conclusion to my post below: -the WiFi reception is subjectively 15% weaker than on the HTC Desire; -no issues regarding heating up batteries; -Android is in my opinion the best OS for phones right now; -battery life: if you don't recharge the phone from a computer, but via the mains, you realistically get 2-4 days of battery life (depending on the usage, of course); -yes, the HTC Legend will get Android 2.2 or 3.0.

There are _no_ problems whith this phone. WiFi reception a little weaker, maybe 15% less than on the HTC Desire. That's all. Battery life 2-6 days (tested!); when I regularly use HSDPA (3G), WiFi and games it lasts for 2-3 days. I have been a WinMo fan since before WinMo (Windows PocketPC) back in 2000/2001.. I was really worried about the transition from WinMo (TouchPro2) to android... but BOY do I wish I had done it sooner... the Legend is LEGENDARY... My only three gripes are: Screen a little on the small side for a fat fingered lump like me! Battery life is ropey (I would prefer a bigger form-factor and battery in lieu of dinkyness!) and lack of hardware keyboard - typing emails on the on-screen virtual board is erm... not good! Otherwise I love it - great support, great speed (really great speed) and superb design - iPhone?... no thanks!!!

Koko: As of yet, apps are installed in the internal memory only. Android 2.2 is said to fix this and make it possible to install to the memory card too. HTC has promised to provide software upgrades to Android 2.2 for the Legend and other new phones, but I do not know when this is due.

At the moment, you can't. You will just have to limit the number of apps you download and remove the ones you don't use. The rumour is that the next version of Android (v2.2) will allow users to install apps to SD card. HTC say that thier 2010 models will get the upgrade from v2.1 in Q3 this year.

I just got the phone set this week. Initially, I went to Starhub (in Singapore) intending to get Wildfire. Then I saw Desire and Legend. In the end, I settled for Legend. Desire is like Sony laptop. Legend is akin to Toshiba laptops, while Wildfire is Acer brand. So legend is a mid range model to me. Do I like it? Yup, it works great! Reasonable price and functionality. I'm glad I didn't take the wildfire set.

Neither is better, the HTC Desire is the best. It takes the best bits of the Nexus One and improves on them with real hardware keys, trackpad not ball and Sense UI (like the Legend) installed.

The salesman may not be lying. It is all dependent on your location. most american 3g (hsdpa) frequencies are 850/1900mhz so if the shop your looking in has the european 900/2100mhz frequency the phone wouldn't be compatible with american 3g and vice versa for european not compatible with american 3g

I've had the Legend for a month now. I love this phone and have no regrets. Initially it wouldn't find my Wifi but magically did one day then haven't had a drama since. Other than that it has frozen on me once during a call but thats all of the dramas I have had. Easily get a day out of battery with heaviest use and over 3 days with only minor use (with Wifi, GPS, data connection all off). I've had no noticeable change in reception. Coming over from Nokia Android is a dream to use and interface is great. Highly recommend this phone

Just got an unlocked Legend. Beautiful phone. Love the htc sense. However , Personally im getting very weak reception fluctations when other phones are getting stronger signal same spot. Also have not been able to enable any data connection or the GPS but this is probably just one bad phone out of many.

It is not sure _if_ the HTC Legend will even get Android 2.2. The HTC Desire will for sure, and the Nexus One already got it from yesterday in the USA, other countries will follow. I would like HTC to only update the HTC Legend and other phones just to Android 2.2 even without HTC Sense. That upgrade would be easier because they have to adapt only the hardware drivers to the new OS, without porting the whole HTC Sense interface and widgets.

@Farzad: Android! Nothing more to say. What country are you from? I'm from Europe, but in the states you have more Android/HTC variants to choose from, like the HTC Droid Incredible. @3G connectivity: I regularly surf with HSDPA connectivity (=twice the regular 3G speed), rarely I get "only" 3G. Out of town I mostly get EDGE (that is 2x the GPRS speed if I recall correctly). With my former Samsung Omnia i900 I rarely have seen HSDPA in the city, mostly even EDGE (otherwise, the Omnia has had a very good reception). Hello from Cluj, Romania!

Hi all... Yes this phone supports MULTITASKING smoothlier than any other OS. Very strong in multitasking... I have to say it has about 130 MB for app installing, but I recommend to use Custom Roms like Rodriguez with APP2SD, so after it you can install apps on your SD card...(Until Froyo(Android 2.2 comessss, because in his new Os you can install apps in SD card without any 3rd party softs...) This phone has Proximity sensor and Compass as well as Desire, the only difference between Legend and Desire is the Processor, the Screen Size and the RAM) due to the screen size of Legend i dont think you need any stronger processor on this phone...

Yes, You have to find a software for compass then you can see the phone's ability, I use Maverik GPS software,although I have a compass software on it... ------------------ You can read the OFFICE documents on it and review them, but if you want to edit them you have to buy the OFFICE software.. ( I found it on some website but I can not remember the name. )

The compass, the proximity and light sensors are all there by default. For the compass, install the application named... "Compass" from APKSoftware.

Used the Legend for a month everthing seen ok for me except the font of the phonebook 's detail is very small ,eyes get tired after using for a while . Manage to download software to increase font size for my sms inbox but writing a sms is still a pain . Anybody know of any software to increase the phonebook font or at least able to "bold it" ( as in my SE995)as well as writing sms .I am sure it will benefit all Legend user if someone can provide this information .

Hi I have been using HTC Legend for more than a week now. I am very much satisfied with the set. All things which were promised are there.I have used it with Vodafone and Airtel.Gr8 performance. GPRS works gr8 and at high speed. No heating problem(just a bit warm when u restart or charge..thats it).Otherwise,in AC it seems cold due to its metallic body. good voice quality. i have not yet used it in Wifi yet but heard it has some issues with it. overall i hae faced no issues with it.My roomie has a nexus one and my Legend is quite comparable to it in performance till now.

Nice phone, but the display is a Samsung. that is the truth unfortunately for Samsung SDI. Sell your wares to your competitors so that HTC, Dell, Nokia, who use Samsung OLED's, can then eat your alive in the smart phone industry. And the funny thing is that it's not even that Samsung SDI is making a big profit off their beautiful product AMOLED screen. They charge a mere 31 dollars per display. While These smartphones are being asked at 15 times that amount. That is INcredible(HTC pun LOL).

well, you can erase things from your internal memory. if you still need more space, you can jail-break your device (or pay someone to do this for you). this, however, may cause your phone to be dis-functional and may void your warranty - so beware. if and when the legend will get the 2.2 update - problem solved.

Typing on the Legend keyboard is great, almost on par with iPhone in similar circumstances (landscape against landscape qwerty). The keyboard is slightly smaller on the legend due to screen size, but the HTC software does a great job at fixing typos and suggesting words, so you don't have to worry about typos too much and can breeze through your text.

Its a brilliant phone i can say.I was worried about transferring my contact from Nokia E71 to Legend.I really didn't have any problem transferring from E71 via blue tooth business card to Legend.It takes time just because i had few long list of contacts around 1000. Multi touch is really good and multi tasking as well.Overall its a very good phone.

You can find it under the settings>program>active service� Because every time the phone is restarted all the required services starts as well. I am using Swedish language so I am not sure if the translation active service is correct, but I guess you�ll find it anyway. Hope it can help.

I think if you use the wifi mode, the battery consumption is much higher. Mine can last more than 24 hours, as I only use my Mobile Network to access to internet when it's necessary.

As far as I read on blogs and Forums, HTC might not upgrade Legend to froyo version. Desire will be the first phone after nexus 1 to get the update. Also HTC history is not gud in terms giving updates quickly. I hope HTC prove me wrong and give the update to froyo. LEgend is a very gud phone except ----m having lip sync issues while playing videos. ----Ringtone gets muffled automatically after 10 seconds even if accelerometer is turned off.

The home button does appear to be quite loose. In face, the whole row of buttons can kind of slide left and right. Pressing the home button closer to the right seems to be a bit better.

I want to answer to some of your questions: -loudspeaker volume: it is loud enough, but when the volume is set to maximum the quality is not very clear; -music volume: with the loudspeaker set to max, te sound quality is very good (strange); with the earphones too; -the vibrator is rather weak, like on any phone from the last 5 years; -GPRS works on the phone; I never tried it because I only got HSPA or EDGE connections until now, but EDGE is an extension to GPRS; it will also work on vodafone, for sure; -yes, there are good free apps for every day usage: AndroZIP as packer, file manager and task manager, AK Notes as a kind of Notepad; PDF and Office viewers are installed by default; -Android 2.2: I hope that it will be made available soon! -programs are only installed on the main memory, not on the sd card; this will change whit version 2.2. I have installed many games and apps, and I still have 19,62 MB left (on the sdcard I have 3,6 GB free out of 7,9 GB). You cand save documents and data files on the sd card though, the photos and videos are always saved onto the sd card.

When recharging from a computer USB port it lasts only 1-2 days, but when recharging from the power outlet I easily get 4 days. My record was 5 and a half days and I still had about 33% battery. Now after 4 days I had 44% but I recharged it because tomorrow will be a long day... My Legend's battery never heats up, it only gets slightly warm sometimes. That is perfectly normal. I already wrote in a previous post that I get a battery life of up to 5-6 days, but not when charged with the data cable from a laptop, but only with the data cable attached to the power adapter. With a more heavy usage I get 3 days.

Battery goes to what temp when u r using the phone. For me with browsing for about 15-20 mins the temp goes as high as 40 deg.C . What kind of battery life are you getting? Did you face any loose Home button?

Heating is normal...because of the aluminum casing. Try not to put any covers keep it normal except the anti glare screen guard to avoid finger prints. I like the phone it fits in my hands well and touch is good.

As an owner of HTC Legend you can help me about the heat up issue. It is revealed from some comments that Legend gets heated up after some usage. After how long usage it heats up? The problem is on Nokia's side. I tried a bluetooth connection with an E63 and from the Android side it was very easy :), but the E63 was very complicated to configure. In the end it worked out though. "can you help me ? does the phone worgs good with bluetooth. How hard is the empairing with other devices ? I have a nokia n97 and i have lots of problems. Battery Life, in the first 2 weeks I got only 1 day and a half of power, but the battery seems to recover itself. Now I get 5 days and a half (!) with a lightly usage - 2 calls, 1 sms, some WiFi web browsing and about 30 minutes of gaming - a day. Also, the battery now recharges faster, it takes only 1h 30 minutes; before it took 3 hours.

touch sensitivity.........awesome just like iphone application download......not sure..does not give any option bluetooth.....tricky but does the job battery.........not good just one day

The browser supports flash :) And yup the battery only last a day. There are issue with the physical keys though especially the home and search key.

I have been using legend for a month now. Its awesome and unmatched in all aspects. The only problem is battery which drains even within 24 hours with heavy usage. I wish its battery life was a bit better. In all other aspects it beats its competitors hands down.

got this phone for S$650, awesome phone...iphone sucks.. have direct access to android market.. display is good..audio and video good..optical track is nice.. over all best phone with good battery life..cheers HTC..

Legend does support the networking apps ie facebook, twitter etc. Also the desire is not a lot better that legend. Yes it does have a 1ghz snapdragon and in some cases outperforms the legend.

I have been waiting to buy a phone for the last one and a half month. Deciding to wait for the legend and desire, I spent my time researching on the available phones and to-be released phones. Cutting a long story short, any windows mobile running a 6.5 version was good but still was not preferable provided that android handsets were readily available in the market. Each feature has been scored twice, one by me(owner of Legend) and the other by a friend of mine (the second one) who has used it but does not own it ( Just to brush of a biased view since I own it). So this is how the rating goes for the legend (Max 10). 1.Touch screen sensitivity: 9/9 It�s a dream using this phone. It is sensitive to the slightest of touch. 2.Market Place (like Appstore): 7/7 Recently the apps crossed 50000 in the market place. Android is new and it will require some time to catch up with the AppStore, but with the rate it is growing at, it doesn�t seem to be an impossible task. 3.Overall Fluidity: 9/9 Screen transitions are very smooth, although in some cases if there are widgets using the network in the background, the screen transition takes a beating (although not very noticeable). FriendStream app by HTC is buggy. It tends to slow down the phone sometimes and once has even crashed it. 4.Battery: 7/7 My battery last for 2 days with moderate use (wifi for about 4 hours, 2 hours of mobile internet, 4 hours of calls, 3 hours of music). I have given it 7 because the battery can take a real beating if the weather widget with the animation is set as one of the home screens. It will last a max of 1 day. 5.Camera: 8/8 Good still images. Snaps during the day are clear and vibrant. I haven�t seen the pink spot yet which was there in the HTC HD2. Snaps during the night without the flash are also decent. With flash the pictures are average during the night. The snaps are grainy. 6.Form Factor: 9/10 The design seems to be perfect for me. It is very comfortable to operate single handedly and is very pocket friendly. 7.Aesthetics: 10/10 GORGEOUS!!! The aluminum body sets it apart from the other phones. 8.Music: 8/8 Music quality and volume are also pretty good. I was using sennheiser CX-300II headset. The music was clear and had fullness to it. Bass and treble were well balanced, although, there are no equalizer settings. I am sure they will include it in the next firmware update. The speaker quality is also very crisp but not very loud. 9.Connectivity: 7/9 Voice clarity is crisp. I haven�t faced any connectivity issues yet. Though I would like to mention the Wifi receiver is a bit on the weaker side. If your signals are weak, it is unable to keep a constant connection and keeps switching between connected and disconnected state. All in all I would give this phone a 9. Now the question is are you ready to shell out another $100 for desire which probably scores more in fluidity (1ghz snapdragon processor)? The rest should be the same other than aesthetics. So buy Legend if you want the looks with good performance, or desire with blazing performance (mind you the battery life is compromised here because of the 1ghz processor) but with normal candy bar look.
