Huawei MediaPad M5 10 - User Reviews

  • 9.1.0.328 arrived Today, 1 sep security patch.

  • Is the Huawei Mediapad M5 10 inch suitable for playing Fortnite? Minimum demands are this from Fortnite Epicgames support sides: OS: Recommended Android 8.0 or higher, 64 bit RAM: 3GB or higher GPU: Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, Mali-G72 MP12 or higher

  • 9.1.0.325 arrived Today, 5 July security patch.

  • From new its det for 1 Bluetooth connection, but in developers option you can set it for 1, 2 or 3 BT connections (y).

  • You can set it in developers option, then all apps can be moved to the SD card.

  • But there is the usb c 3,5mm jack included, so we can survive, i do.

  • Which model do you have? The non-pro version 10.8" M5 doesn't have the phone function. I have it. I know what it can do and cannot. I use mine for web browsing and playing movies, shows, and music. I call it "My Big Cell Phone", even thou it can't make phone call. But, that's OK. I have real phones for that.

  • Just got this few days ago and i am gonna use it as a phone and a browsing+gaming device. I updated it 2 times both was security update 1 was today for august 2019 security patch. Battery is great speed is great 5/5

  • In EU version PlayStore is preinstalled.

  • Stylus support only with the Pro version.

  • is there stylus support ?

  • No, you're incorrect. Although Google Play (Store) is not installed from the factory, you can find it in Huawei's own app store, that is pre-installed. Then you can install Google Play from there (Huawei's own app store). That's how I installed Google Play (Store) on this tablet. When Google Play (Store) needs to update, Huawei will say something BS, like it's not recommended. You will ignore this non-sense, and carry on your update.

  • This pad is not suitable for overseas. It cannot install google play store. Then all local applications cannot be used. Even with huawei support to install GMS Installer. The google play still not function correctly.

  • This tablet can work exactly as a phone if you want. And you can use Bluetooth headset for calling.

  • I just got Android 9 update and very satisfied with it. I hope it has more updates in the near future.

  • I live in the Philippines, can this tab send txt message or use the call function of the sim card?

  • Just received an update to Android Pie & EMUI 9.0.1, very happy that Huawei have pushed a major update.

  • There are two version, LTE (with SIM) and non-LTE (without SIM).

  • there are no lag on my s2,i have the exynos and snapdragon versions. Imo the colors are much better on s2 ,because of the super amoled screen. Even the screen on my sony xperia z4 tab is better than m5 :).

  • Please update the info because i got this tablet from amazon uk and i bought it because i saw there it has sim slot but mine dont have .

  • The UK version of Mediapad M5 10 has Widevine L1 support, it was updated May/June 2018 to L1.

  • Checked with Huawei support today, they said the newer M5 Lite has Widevine L1 support so should play HD streaming without problem. Their database did not have information on the M5 10.8, and many have said it only has L3 support (ie, limited to SD streaming). Didn't ask about the M5 Pro.

  • If the model name doesn't have a "pro" suffix, the tablet doesn't support the pen. Even if you buy a pen anyway, the pen won't work properly.

  • Does it support the mpen, even though it may not have one with it?

  • Your comparing an ancient Tab S2 which I ownedand to the M5 which I now have.. The colours are cartoony and silly on the S2 till the point it hurts my eyes and causes fatigue. If you enjoy lag on your S2 then keep it :) but damn, someone seems extremely deluded..

  • will return this tablet. I was looking forward to try this one but i learned the samsung galaxy tab s2 i have is way better . The screen and and colors can not match S2. Also mediapad m5 is not a light strong tablet. And the biggest fail imo are the buttons. Of all the devices i owned or tried this one is no1 . Place the button on the same side, on the long right side. I could not get used to it how stupid this was. Like they were high on something when they started to plan this tablet. Stupidest placed buttons ever. The sound was a big plus. The feeling of the tablet itself was better than my s2 . But total medipad m5 is way behind s2. And s2 is old :) They should keep the speakers as it is but change place for the buttons and a better screen. It's 2018 if you want to be on the top this is far from good enough.

  • Without "pro" in the name, it has No stylus.

  • Does this version support mpen stylus?

  • The camera is so-so. It's a very basic camera. Has no flash light. I'll say the camera is about the equivalent of a smartphone's camera from 5 years ago. Still, it's a camera. It may get your job done in a pinch.

  • How is camera? Is the picture quality any good?

  • As a last resort, do a factory rest. Then set the SD card as you default storage destination. Some apps like google will still have to be on the internal storage, but others like photos and videos will go to the SD card.

  • I guess this app cannot be moved to SD card. Have you tried another app? Apps like Google Chrome, Google Play Store, Glary Utilities, etc., cannot be moved to SD card.

  • thanks for your reply. I'm aware of it. there is an option to change the storage however I cannot change, it says you have created a user.

  • You go to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Select the app. If the app can be moved to SD card, it will tell you. If the app can't be moved, it won't have the option. Not all apps can be moved to SD card.

  • Correction work with some chargers not all chargers

  • Hi guys please let me know how to move applications from the device to the SD card. I have a 32GB variant and down want to clog the built in memory. this is an amazing unit I must say.. I use it for work and play. love it.

  • After update now fast charging is available with other charger, and not restricted for the original charger

  • I downloaded DRM Info app from Play Store to see what I had on this M5 tablet. It is still Widevine L3 as of today. The Android OS is the current version (still is 8.0.0.171) Huawei had to offer. I always check for the latest updates. No Widevine L1. Therefore, it's too early to call "solved", especially since "March". Given the track record, my believe is it will never be solved. I can deal with it, but to many other people it's a deal-breaker.

  • Please Stop saying "solved"! Not one my machine. It is not, as of 22nd September 2018. My M5 is the CMR-W09. However, I can play YouTube in HD, by using a browser (I use Google Chrome) in desktop view. Just like I would with my PC's. I give up on Netflix.

  • The HD problem has been solved... in March... just saying...

  • YouTube is OK. Netflix doesn't work in HD.

  • not even on YouTube?

  • Correction. I mean Widewine Level 1 (L1). All devices need to have Widewine Level 1 (L1) certification to stream HD videos. Huawei M5 pads don't have it.

  • Here is a heads up. The M5 pad all versions cannot stream HD videos (720p and/or above), because the lack of the Widewine Level 3 (L3) certification for DRM. I found the problem a few days ago. Streaming on the M5 pad is limited to SD only. This is annoying, but I can deal with it. I'll keep using laptop's and PC's for streaming HD videos like I always do. I still like this pad, because even with various problems, it is still an excellent all around pad currently available without the annoying limitations of the Apple's products.

  • 16:10 is a good middle ground for a 10.8" screen. When using it vertically for reading, it's wide enough that you don't feel the screen is too narrow. 16:9 will be a tad too narrow in this case.

  • Yes, the screen rotates from horizontal to vertical, and vice versa. You can lock/unlock the screen to the position of your chosen.

  • Huawei needs a strategic partner in sound/HIFI, like they did with Leica. Sound very fine with speakers in the M5, but not ok with headphones. Big bass to impress. Somewhat weird "murky" treble. Where is the AptX? The HIFI Dac in a top of the line product?. Huawei, hire those LG engineers who know sound, and get it right the next time with headphones and Bluetooth. Huawei, you need skills in audio which you dont have now!

  • Does the screen rotate like any pad ? don't laugh cause I bought Galaxy view 18 inch and the screen is not rotating.

  • Disagree

  • Totally agree about this "trendy" stupid screen size.

  • As I expected I am bit disappointed. Battery life is very very weak. Last around 7 hours with intensive use gaming browsing movies and music. It's 7500 but they should have made it 8500. My phone with 4000mah last twice tripple longer.

  • Great screen and build quality.. but horrible screen format (16:10) for browsing and reading..

  • Slow on internal flash, I might say.. ~100/50 (r/w) - it's not up to today's best for sure. Not even close.

  • I heard from someone that using Bluetooth massively cuts down the WiFi speed and that you can only have 1 Bluetooth accessory connected at any given time. Are either of these statements true?

  • All I hate about this device is that they made a more expensive version with pen support. They should've made the pen compatible here and make it as accessory if they want to grab more cash.

  • Yes it supports voice calling

  • Does this product use gorilla glass, I cannot seem to find a concrete answer on it online, one site will tell you it does, the other doesn't.

  • 10.8 is the screen diagonal. Tab is only 10.18 physically. Read dmensions then display.

  • does it support voice calling ?

  • No flash led the camera

  • I need but I'm in Bangladesh......

  • Would this be a good replacement for heavy games and streaming like nvidia shield ??

  • what store has it?

  • You say IPS keep that in mind, is it worse on your eyes than the S3 amoled.

  • Hello i use M5 10.8, M3 8.4, Mate pro 9 And i use 3.5mm alot and i can say the 3.5 - usb-c adapter sounds not good 4/10 The Mate 9 pro sounds million times better with 3.5mm than M5, well i bought the Mate 9 pro because of the sound via 3.5mm The Mate 10 Lite and Mate 10 Pro also have very poor sound from 3.5mm And no Aptx bluetooth on M5 !?! BUT the speakers WOW... out of this world.... bravo Harman and Huawei 10/10 Sounds much larger than device 3D with big ambient sound and it changes when in portrait or landscape and if you use splitscreen the 3D sound turns off and the sound is more normal and centered M5 feels more premium than 10.5 ipad i think but the 3.5mm in ipad oh my good it is impressive.... M5 could have been the sonic monster if they put a high quality 3.5mm Oh and the 3.5mm on Matebook X has very impressive sound The screen is perfect to me everything looks very good and natural 10/10 No screen screen protector included I really like the black bezels over the white on M3 If you dont care about 3.5mm this tablet is a clear winner Amazing tablet for video, TV etc. with the speakers Mike

  • Got mine today. It's my first Huawei device and I'm pretty satisfied. I'd say, it's about as good as my Galaxy Tab S3, which costs quite a bit more. Unfortunately, the display is IPS.. keep that in mind.

  • Looks like the 10.8 is onsale on Amazon Germany, lets hope they come to uk soon & please someone release a case with a 50° angle thats the best angle for using a tablet.

  • Can't believe Huawei didn't include a headphone jack on this. Removing the headphone jack from phones is annoying, but I usually use bluetooth on my phone. I use a tablet to watch videos in bed with wired headphones. There's no excuse to not include the headphone jack on a tablet. Plenty of room for it!

  • maybe this tablet better than iPad and Sam Tab

  • Anyone know the actual screen dimensions not the tablet dimensions, as if the actual screen height is smaller than the Samsung Tab 10.5 then that is bad news explicitly with onscreen keys.
