This phone is cancelled because the the company making phones for i-mate as well the O2 has already come up with its own brand called HTC!!! Yes htc is the only company making phones for thiese two companies!!! moreover HTC is having MICROSOFT lincese. No other company has it so they just stopped manufacturing!!!!

I dont know why i-mate decided to cancel this phone; it has a nice display, decent specifications, however, with an upgrade to the camera, probably to a 5MP with VGA video recording @ 30fps (mpeg4 not 3gp), I think, this would have been one of the best WinMo phones to have hit the market. Unfortunately it got cancelled. I'm hopeful we will see something similar from i-mate in the near future.

Correction, the Dubai based company itself will remain in business, but are having difficulty with their US distribution system and did indeed shut down their Washington state home office and virtually all employees are gone. Since there is no US distribution I guess it will be more difficult to get US compatible products and support, but not really impossible.

Except for Ultimate 7150 and 9150, all other models in this series look like 90's. They are powerful but no businessman would enjoy carring bricks. I will suspect we will have to wait for the next HTC models...

Hi Guys, i have a bad news, few months ago i preordered uluomate 7150 from expansys. today i recieved an email from expansys saying that imate has cancelled ultimate 7150, and therefore they send me notice of the cancellation of my order. well finally the myth of long waited 7150 is over. i have a imate jasjar phone which is working perfectly. it is almost similiar to 7150 in shape and specs. the only reason i wanted to get 7150 was that my jasjar doesnt have fm radio and tv out. well thats sad

Don't lay awake at night for the 5150, 7150 and 9150. It's the 6150 and 8150 that soon will be out. The 3 other from the Ultimate range is put on hold, and 8502 and 9502 is added. All these are very good! But, if you want a device in short time its 6150 or 8150 that counts.

Seems that the Ultimate 7150 is finally dead as it has been removed from the imate website. It's a shame because of the large screen. Hopefully imate will announce an updated version shortly with a large touch screen but without the added weight of a keyboard.

G5jg may be correct. I-mate may have cancelled the phone. If one peruses this site there is no mention of 7150 Ultimate although 6150 and 8150 are detailed. I tried the search function but it came to no avail. Furthermore i-mate have altered specs for the series. The colour palette is now only 65K and the processor has been changed from IntelBulverde to XScale.

Yes, I can believe that I-mate divorced HTC probably on the groundsof irreconcilable differences!! I-mate decided to be adventurous and stretch the technical boundaries whilst HTC resolved to be conservative. One has only to peruse HTC'S TyTN II to see the dramatic dichotomy. I-mate implements more colour depth: 262K vs 65K. I-mate offers vivid VGA screens even on the 2.6 inch screen 8150 Ultimate. There is no HTC phone which has a three inch or less screen that has VGA res. XGA video out and FM radio are welcome additions on the I-mate. Too many of HTC'S products lack these features. Furthermore the I-mate has a faster and superior processor.

HTC used to produce i-mate, qtek, 02 (and more) but just recently i-mate left HTC. after leaving HTC, i-mate started producing a new series they called ultimate. Want proof? look at old i-mate devices and compare them to old HTC devices. They are the SAME.

OK to clarify, HTC does not produce this product. Another company does, Since HTC has started producing its own brand and selling them directly to the market without any branding (re: Imate). Imate has been forced to look for other Original Developer Manufacturer.(ODM's) ie Quanta etc. It also explains why the IMATE Ultimate series is so designwise so different to HTC's other products.

Is it true that HTC are the makers of i-mate?? If they are then it is obvious why the i-mate Ultimate series has not been released yet. HTC do not want competition with HTC TyTN, Shift and Advantage models. They want to test the market with these models before bringing out the "cavalry" ie the all powerful i-mate. The Ultimate series are still mouth watering because you receive lovely VGA resolution in relatively small screens. This is coupled to a fast reliable processor. I believe that this phone has a better spec than HTC TyTN II and I would rather have the 7150 any day!!

still they need to improve in this phone is Edge class like 296kbps, because most people will use this as substitute of laptop while travelling & 3G & HSDPA are not in many countries but edge in many countries. Now Nokia & Samsung are giving 296kbps slot in expensive models so if they want to give complete phone than must give 2.5G.

Is there even a point to releasing this phone now? Compared to the TyTN II this phone looks like an antique, the rest of the mobile community has moved up to finger touch based phones with 3MP cameras while this one is still stuck in the past.

The somewhat extended size of the Ultimate 7150 is JUST one of the reasons why I would prefer it. The E90 has been too small, especially the keyboard. The size is about comparable to a Nintendo DS, and IMO there is NO PROBLEM of using this as a phone up to the ear. This is simply a beauty in design and size!

Portability, portability, portability!! At 110mm in length and 74mm in diameter, when making calls it will resemble holding a loaf of bread to your ear!! The 74mm diameter makes this phone fat and highlights a design fault. If they had made the phone widescreen with an image aspect ratio of 16:9 (with wide-VGA res ie 800*480 pixels) the diameter would have been smaller than 74mm thereby making the phone easier to hold in the hand. Instead I-mate have given us a 4:3 ratio with VGA res. I am really hoping that the keyboard will be tactile and responsive because I do alot of fast typing on the phone and I have found T9 to be too slow and inaccurate. Windows mobile have to move up to 16M colour screens to take full advantage of the new crop of high res phones. 18 bit 262144 screens makes high demands on the processor and battery but is only marginally better than 65556 colour screens. WM may as well find a way to increase processor speed and attain 24 bit 16M colour screens.

Upgraded now with WM6 that is including a Terminal Service application much much better than before; I am using a lot and it seems like to use a very small laptop now... Really... hi can ne1 help me abt the performances of these phones. I've got SE P990 but am thinking of getting one of these. does WM6 have more 3rd party appl and is it backwards compatible? everything seems good except the camera. nowadays such phones should include flash and AF also 30 fps video records. I think its the only drawback. Its true that one can have a pro cam for less but having a decent cam in ur pocket pc is much better atleast they can give good results in day light. Take P990 for eg it has a reasonably good cam n thats y I keep it. U can carry ur phone with u all the time but will u specially take ur cybershot every where with u? Howz it as a music phone. plz do reply. tks in advance.

Someone mentioned it being expensive. I haven't heard anything on a guess prices...so if someone know a serious guess on price please provide it. If anyone has a good guess on when it'll eventually come out that'd be cool to since the best I've heard now is early next month but it isn't a guarantee.

You'll wait the X800 that have the GPS but with a ridiculous screen of 2,8". I'think that the perfect PDA doesn't exist yet. We'll be still waiting for a long time before "the real thing" with full convergence will be sold. Till there the PDA manufacturers won't listen too much to their customers as long as they'll buy their stuff each one/two years. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward for this nice machine that answers to 75% of my needs. Hopping it'll be also sold with a french OS and perhaps with GPS/TMC inside.

Yeap, keep living the dream! When is cheap good and when is not? This very expensive tool most be fully utilitarian, for the price, a gps should have been included. Cute it is. Professional,...well. How do i get to a location a need fully independed despite the poor performance of its cellular capabilities in certain "remote" places?

Absolutly awesome. The only thing though is it doesn't have GPS. I would definately purchase one except I think I will wait for it or some other device to come with a built in GPS as well. Very sad that this didn't come with it. Still, a great potential product.

I was very disappointed by Jasjar: which has never worked properly and that recently, after one and half year use, experienced serious problems, making sudden and imprdictable reboot. Another very irritsting feature is that I-mate web page was set as default web page and you were not allowed to chose another one. I hope this will be fixed with Ultimate.

Whether it's a prelude, interlude or even postlude I-mate should give the public what the public wants and that is clearly GPS in convergence devices. Note that the 7150 is no longer just a PDA. It is a convergence device otherwise why did they bother placing a camcorder and stills camera in it. Even these inclusions are not up to contemporary spec. If I-mate want to sell their phones in commercial quantities they should meditate on what is current. The N95 is selling staggeringly well.

Any manufacturer of high-end phones excluding GPS better think twice. Look at the N95 user opinions forum: over 300 pages. The inclusion of GPS in that phone has generated so many sales.

From the photograph it seems that the screen has 4:3 dimensions as opposed to the widescreen of Nokia's E-90. I think i-mate should stay current and put a minimum of 3MP on the camera and certainly glorious VGA(30fps) video recording. We take our phones everywhere and so we need to be able to take reasonable photos of printable quality. Of course a true camera is better but you don't take it everywhere. I will be buying this phone because I want to have an intimate experience with WM6. I will also buy Nokia's E90 to experience the improvements in s60.

This is pure mini laptop, superb in its class, but it is not a phone. Anyone buying this must know he will still need another phone for general use, as far as SMS and thing like that, it may be possible to use a Bluetooth fro phone calls while this device si in the bas somewhere near, but get real the battery on Window mobile won't even live for a whole day. So this is a mini laptop/PDA, if you want mini laptop/PDA/phone/camera/GPS/MP3player/ go for nokia E90.

some people opt of a larger screen for readability combined with ease of use. would anyone disagree if i say 99.99% of pda users prefer portrait orientation rather landscape? you switch to landscape, most likely, by default only when playing a game. with 110mm x 74mm flip top screen it doesn't seem handy using the wide vga portrait screen, i mean you always have to flip open the cover to avail of the wide vga screen. on portrait orientation the keyboard becomes unhandy, almost useless. with landscape screen and the keyboard always open i bet anyone would struggle using the stylus while holding the device safe on his palm. nice if you are always on a table nearby, great for showing off, while on a meeting with your CEO, but most of mobile users are always on the go, hardly know of anyone carrying along a small table to use with his expensive device.

yah I totally agree , Cameras in cell phones are just toys. Even the N95's 5 mega pix, is no where close to real 5 mpix camera, even a real camera with 2 mpix gives you a very super pic quality... but the camera in N95 is just so pathetic! Grow up people! if you want to really capture those special moments and cherish them, then go and buy a "real" camera, even the 2 mpix will do just fine.

Why are people so caught up with the cameras on phones these days? I'm sick of reading "only 2MP" as the first comment after every review. Honestly WHO CARES?! I have a CAMERA to take pictures. Phone cameras are toys and will be for a long time, even the 5MP camera in the Nokia N95 is rubbish compares to an actual 5MP camera. Honestly I'd rather this thing had no camera at all and more ROM or smaller form factor.

Not having GPS is not a deal breaker. A seperate GPS receiver with bluetooth is pretty cheap. And I would only really need GPS while driving, so the receiver can stay in the car so as to not to add to my walk-around load. As for the Ultimate line not being real, where does that come from. Even if the photos are of mock-ups, that doesn't mean i-mate is perpetuating a hoax. Mock-ups are very common when the real hardware is being developed. Gives potential users an idea of what the outside is going to look like.

Folks, I've got bad news for you: i-Mate 7150 doesn't exist. I've been researching this device on the internet for quite a long time and I haven't found a single review where the reviewer would have a working i-Mate 7150 in his hands. It's easy to make a non-functional model. Notice that the i-Mate 7150 photos are always showing the time on the device as "11:13". That means that the device is displaying just a static bitmap. What are we looking at is actually a very good joke of someone (iMate). I think that iMate made this device up to make its "stock" more valuable at the moment. There are no perfect phones. Nokia E90 is good but no touch screen, people don't know how useful touch screen to some people(take quick notes, draw ideas). 7150 is a little big and no GPS. Maybe I will wait for Asus P526.
