VERY NICE PHONE. Pics & Video quality excellent. All who have held my phone actually fell in love and ran to purchase one of their own. My only thing is, Card Slot and changing the tone for the message alert. Also,if a ringtone is set for a contact and later on the ringtone is deleted so too goes the contact. Other than that all awesome > downloaded a mp3 file, tried deleted it but keeps showing error....guess it might have been a virus, so some of my free space is occupied by it FOREVER.

I **love** this phone. Honestly, this phone is a warrior. I am hard on phones and this has stood the test of time. I got it in October of 2005 and it is still going strong with no problems at all. The pics/videos come out clear and the design is great. I have received numerous compliments on my phone.

My sister has this. Very reliable phone (for her)... I don't know what was wrong with the phone for the previous person... Very sturdy, survived many bumps and drops. Like the nano coating, very clean. Battery life is ok, screen is good (not as great as D600 or D900) but still beats the lot. Sounds very nice as well. Basically saying, I recommend this phone to others.

I got this phone about a couple months ago, and recently dropped it a couple of times. Ever since then, I have been experiencing static on the receiving end when I call people. I think I might have messed up the internal antenna when I dropped it. Anybody know where how I can fix it? Samsung won't fix it because it's not authorized for sale here in the U.S. Thanks!!!!

I just bought this mobile phone on 7-2-06. I like the style of this phone. Unfortunately this phone do not have card slot, so its kinda of useless for the mp3 as it only can absord 32mb(only limited song u can download). The good thing is the 1.3 megapixel for taking pictures. Its as sharp as Nokia 3230. I hope samsung would consider to have new models thats affordable the most important thing is with card slots.

i think this phone is O.K....... the only reason i say that is because within the first 20 days of having the phone i had to get three becuas eit kept freezing when i wood text on it. but after the third on i dont khave that problem any more, but i probably wood another phone later on down the line

I have owned this phone for about a month now and I quite happy with it! The service is great and I am extremely satisfied with the picture quality. I love the mp3 player and how I am able to cut songs and set them as caller id ring tones. However there are a couple problems I have encountered and am wondering if I am able to fix them? First off, I am not able to send picture messages, when I try it says �unknown subscriber". Also, my call history on my phone is incorrect (I do not know if there is a way to fix this or if my phone is faulty)... For example if I go to call "A" and then look on my dialed numbers it will say I called "C" with "A"�s number listed. Help????? i bought E640 about 1 week and i cant leave my hands off it. i love it so much!!! E640 take clear and crisp pictures. this phone have a voice clarity function even in a noisy environment i could hear my friends loud and clear. the flash is very good. u can choose to on it permanently during photo takin or just to on when capturing photos. however there is something i do not like about is da mp3 player. when ur listenin to music a new msg comes in u cant view da msg unless u exit da mp3 player. da battery uses up quite fast for me coz i love to play games. if u don play mp3 or games dat often u can use up to 2 and 1/2 days. during text msgin u can add in new words but dunno why it will disappear after a few days. there is a function dat when there is a new call u can reject da call by pressin da side key w/o flippin it open! it amaze me alot. lol* in my handset there are 2 pre-loaded games. u can download new games at samsung fun club. but there are only 2 games available yet. so far i would give this phone a rating of 8.5! buy it! its worth da money for so much great functions!

Hey, I am having trouble deciding which samsung phone to choose - the E640 or the E720C. Can somebody please help me out on this. I know the memory of the E640 is much smaller than the E720, but setting that aside, is the E640 the better phone to choose? Does it have animated icons as well? and can the default text size (when creating sms) be set to 'small'? I have had the E700 before and the text size kept getting back to 'normal' mode, and the characters were big enough to be read by the person beside me when i create sms.

it's a cool mobile phone but less memory. but u can try motorola (E398) mobile phone tools to crop the mp3 (for ring tones) and dbAmp software to compress the mp3 (up to 50%!!!). I've tried one file that have 5.3 MB, after compressed it's only had 2.1 MB, sound quality still same!!! So I can put 15 mp3 files into my samsung. Try it. Bravo Samsung...

ACTUAL REVIEW>>> Don't believe half the things you hear about the E640- most of the things I read people saying are false, either made up or they don't know how to use the phone, so here's my review. I'm up to the 1 month of owning/using this phone. Overall I have to say it's very good, considering I get sick of phones pretty much 5 minutes after I buy them :P I have to say there is great features on this phone- i seriously don't know what more you could ask for, especially the video camera GREAT QUALITY (everybody comments "WOW thats clear!!!". However with everything good comes a downside, and here the downside is lack of memory! 32mb is just not enough for a phone full of features like the E640- however by deleting all the other junk samsung put on the phone (Any Motion video + those stupid pictures take up HEAPS of room!). Another downside is also not being being able to answer the phone with the handset closed- no loud speaker that way! Only loud speaker when it's open, however the quality is amazingly clear. I also get angry with the (samsung) way of the phone not being able to vibrate+call at the same time, however I think you can get some sort of program to make your own ringtone- but then again who does that? I've got great reception all the time and NEVER had any problems with voice quality both hearing/talking in phonecalls. If you want to use this phone for the MP3 player I strongly recommend you DON'T get it- unless you only know about 8 songs and don't use the phone for anything else (again not enough memory). My battery is only OK, but without me using it too much I've found it lasts about 4 days. *Charge it for ages before 1st use!* But yeah, there only kinda the main faults I've faced, other then those nothing too bad/annoying. Any questions just ask me- I actually have this phone!

I just got this phone and it's really worth the amount you pay. cnetasia.com gave it a bad review because all they really concentrate on is the fact that it only supports 32MB of shared memory with no expansions. IF you already own an MP3 player, this is not a problem at all for you. As long as you have a data cable connection between the E640 and your PC just keep uploading your photo's and video's; I only use about 2 or 3 MP3's for ringtones. Other than that, the camera is extremely smooth(hardly any lag), there are many useful functions, screen display is beautiful(the outer display also!), and the looks of the phone is sleek! You can't go wrong with this E640. I'm glad I got this phone.

Does this phone allow you to connect the phone to your computer and put songs on from cds? I ask this because I am unable to use a service to buy mp3 ringtones and I do not have internet access with mobiles here. best thing to do is contact your local samsung support center (try their website and click on the appropriate country). that's what i had to do when my mobile company couldn't configure the WAP/MMS and GPRS.. samsung emailed me within an hour and sent me a code to input.. and voila! phone configured.

when i was buying my samsung phone.. there was a specific Samsung software that came with the USB. Did you get the USB cable from samsung or samsung reseller? It should have gone with your usb cable. Or try visiting samsungmobile.com to see if you can download the software there.

silvery violet? hmm.. i got my phone in plain silver. i know there's another model that comes in violet silver shade. so far I haven't experienced any problems as stated by the user below. my phone has been working great almost a month now. i haven't made use of the mp3 feature since it would just waste my space, i'll stick with my personal mp3 player for that.

I've been reading everyone comments and I'm a little shock to hear that almost everyone thinks this phone is pretty good. I've had this for no more then 2 weeks and I hate the phone. I�ve changed the phone twice and it still has problems. The pic's are no good and the camera is just as bad. It drops calls like crazy and you can't hear anything the other person is saying on the other end of the phone. And, don�t get me on the color�it is girl colors. Samsung needs to go back to it drawing board and fix all its problems. My opinion is that the Samsung made a cheap phone on purpose just to make a little money. I wont be shock if within a month they take it off the market because of defects. Final thought the phone is a piece of��.

Michael, ok I just discovered that this does have speaker phone! Pretty clear and loud. To answer your question, I closed my phone while I had the speaker phone on and someone on the line, the call ended once I closed it. I read in another forum, "This phone is not currently available from any major US carrier. It is compatible with some U.S. networks, and may be available from third-party dealers or smaller, regional carriers."

Does E640 have a speaker phone feature.. I don't think it has (or I might have to tinker more on my phone). The E730 has that though. Maan got your email. To answer your question, no it doesn't allow mp3 or other music files except the default message tones for the message alert tone. But it does allow mp3 (poly tunes) for the incoming call alert. As to themes.. there are 4 default 'skins' to change the colour theme. I don't know if you're allowed to download off the web to add to this. No customization of themes though in the phone. The prize is typically around 19T++ but if you buy it in greenhills or other shops you can get it for around 15T++.

I agree with you. It takes great footage. I was about to go to sleep and just sending off a SMS and figured I'd try the camera w/ flash feature. I was in a pitch dark room and took a picture of my sister in her bed... picture turned out great! Captured her in disgusting slumber. Hahaha! I'm happier w/ this phone than with my nokia 6600.. as you said, only downfall is the memory.

***It can record about 15-20 minutes of video footage (being that you are not taking up too much memory else where) However, its very clear and takes great pictures. The memory is the only downfall of this phone. 32mb is not enough for the video camera- not sure why they bothered with the MP3.

I bought this phone just yesterday. I was debating between this and the E730 but finally went with the E640 because of the slick design. I've always wanted to own a clamshell (all my past phones were nokia) and I'm glad I went with the E640. Easy to use (although I have yet to get used to the keypad since I'm a nokia user) and the display and crisp and clear! The 32mb memory was one of the things that took me forever to decide on and the 90mb of the E730.. but I decided I didn't need that much space nor the radio feature. The price difference was small and the E730 had the USB cable + samsung cd.. but the ugly design of E730 really bothered me. The only colour available in the Philippines is the black one and it looked like cheap plastic. I would have bought it if they had the silver version. Another aspect I was comparing wasthe keypad. E730 had the nice silver keypad and at first E640's didn't appeal to me (clear plastic on top). E640's design decided me. Features are great, camera is clear (i still have to play around with all the features). Is there a way to make the storage of SMS into the phone instead of it storing in my SIM card and I'll have to manually transfer it to the phone memory?

This phone is performing very well. I've had it for 2 weeks now. The screen resolution and sounds are very smooth and rich. Bluetooth, Speakerphone, Cam, and MP3 work flawlessly. Some say, only 32MB with no card slot? I say this is OK since I used to have a RAZR and that had only 5MB memory!

Maybe to make it different with E720/730. the package of E640 is not include the USB cable. Samsung USB cable is affordable as well, lot cheaper than Nokia or SE. If you buy E720/730, the package is already include USB cable and Samsung Software CD. Samsung E720/730, E640 or E530 are among the best. Can't wait to buy Samsung i300 or D600

All the features!!! I've had my E640 now for a few days and I'm very happy with it. The phone is really easy to use (I haven't even opened the manual). If you have this phone and don't like it I'm not too sure what else you may be expecting. Like every phone this one has faults as well, but I could not regret buying it! The phone has a very impressive camera/video recorder. The only thing which annoys me (because I love taking photos/videos) is the way you can only use the flash when the phone is flipped open. You can't have the camera and flash on external screen together. I may be wrong but I have searched through the phone and can't manage to have the flash on. I have not had any problems with calling and recieving phone calls either. Voice Quality is great! I've not had a problem with reception, and I've noticed while my boyfriend has had no reception bars on his Motorola V3 I've managed to still have full reception. (I was thinking of getting the V3). Anyway the phones boasts all kinds of great features and I recommend it to anyone. I think the E730/20 would have been a better phone as it does have more memory but all the E730 has is extra along with more memory is a radio and the buttons on the front for the mp3 player. It all depends on how much memory you need. 32MB is plenty for me and I take photos/videos all the time. If you want to take hour long videos and store MP3's (just use iPod!) then I would get the E730. I don't use my E640 for MP3's because I think it's a waste of space, I think they would need to make phone with 1g of memory before I use it for a MP3 player (too many songs, I couldnt shorten the playlist to 20 songs!). Still the E640 has everything for your needs and I recommend it. The only thing you may need to buy extra is a USB so you can tranfer all your phones data to your computer- i'm not to sure why this was not included in the first place. The phone does have handsfree included.

Yes you're right catcat. The battery life in Samsung never exceeds my expectation (except Phillips, but low quality mobile phone). But Samsung now become more sophisticated & high tech comparing others. With minimum use of bluetooth & camera, you can safe battery for the entire day. Luckily I have 2 chargers (former my lost Samsung)so I can put 1 in the office.

hmm, the battery life isnt that great tho...talk time up to 6* hours, standby time up to 290* hours, but with some little usage of the phone functions and less then 30mins talking time a day, the battery went flat at the end of the day, meaning 1 battery last me about a day. Another thing is that, theres no time stamping on phone after you sent out a sms (i wonder if samsung can do a upgrade on this), u have to set the delievery report which cost 1 sms =( beside these 2, this mobile is really great, clear speaker, nice mp3 player ringing sound is loud enough too ;)

I got my E640 today! As I expected: great mobile phone in affordable price! Yes, internal memory only 32 MB & no memory card slot, average in camera (can't beat Sony Ericsson's megapixels), very solid and best thing is: ABLE TO INSERT PHONE BOOK IN MESSAGE WRITTING!!!!!!

if you need clamshell with colorful cover you can look for Samsung E530. It has orange, purple, yellow, etc. Features are about the same with Samsung E640.

Neera, I wouldn't recomend the E720 as it has sound quality problems like when you talk to someone on ur fone the sound quality ain't the best. Otherwise the fone is cool, I don't know very much about the E640...we'll have to wait and see...

joshua before you talk about how should sam do their phones you should consider to study more about mobile phones ... a 3mpx cam is TOO BIG to fit there and they wanted to make a smaller phone with 1.3 mpx cam . don't you se that p850 is a big phone and it's 3mx cam is located elsewere . i think you are asking yourself everyday why they shouldn't make a e600 with 5mpx... but you are right about something... this is the BEST BEST phone for its size 1.3 AUTO FOCUS hope that will make pictures better than d500, vcard usb e you want.
