I got this phone few days ago. a relative gave it to me. Im currently using it as a secondary phone and i really love the design even if its a 2012 model. The screen is responsive and i love the display. It fits one hand. Most of the time i would just use it for games calls and text. I can use facebook and messenger app on this device but i would prefer to use important apps with my primary phone. Its slow on some apps. I Actually bought a new non original battery for this phone and i notice its discharging fast when wifi is turned on so i always have to turn off wifi.. With the new battery it would last more than a day if im not using wifi or data. Its 2018 but Overall i love this phone as a secondary one.

1. copy important files from phone storage to external sdcard and take it out. 2. refer to - 3. If cpu go high, phone lag, battery hot, play store stop function then you should do a Factory Reset. Optional you can format internal sdcard before that if you don't mind to setup everything later. 4. Remember to turn off gps and data (slide down notification bar) right after the fresh ui come up. Note: 1. purchased apps and music license key sometimes can not get back. 2. free ram will go under 100MB. 3. i have no idea how to go back to 2.3.6. :-(

Disable all the google apps except playstore, gmail, whatsapp. use only gmail, whatsapp. u will get 150mb free ram and u will not get lag. use only for calling, mail, whatsapp.

Bought two together at small discount for 93 and 87 year olds. Dont have a phone of my own yet! Got my head round most of it like going on wi fi. However, bought two mobile 3 topped up pay as you go Sim cards in anticipation of getting them up and running as phones. I believe from the above specs that I need a MINI Sim which I did not get. Will a so called holder facilitate these Sims? Grateful for any advice and which of the two slots do I use.? So confusing. Can anyone advise also on downloading "whats app". I have been using this device from the past 5 years....Awesome phone..during the time it was released..very handy,light and has a beautiful AMOLED display...the rear facing camera is still a good one... I have changed the battery 3 times..But what so ever still.using this as my primary device..waiting for a good upgrade...still lasts a day on typical usage.. The only Cons are its laggy due to less memory and cant store more number of apps..Overall a very awesome device.

I have been using this phone for past 3 years without cover, just a plastic screengaurd. Pros: Amoled touchscreen offers best touch and visibility . Vivid colours and readability in Sun. Slight curved design . Have dropped phone a coupe of times without any case/ protection / tampered glass; No sign of crack. Good camera. Overall built qulity good. sturdy body lasts long. Cons; 750MB -Ram mag. Lags a lot . Software related. Cant use many today's apps. Battery drains quickly as 1500mah. I've installed S2 or S3 battery of 1600~ mAh by removing the bottom plastic peice of battery. Have been using for 6 months and no prob.

Bought this in april 2012. Still going good. No issues whatsoever apart from the fact that it could not be ugraded after gingerbread. When i use my other 5'+ screen phones, im grateful that i didnt dispose this one. its light weight , single handedly operatable , and not once does it heat up considering that its almost five years old. The battery is in proper shape, lasting a day and more even now , with all the power consumig apps and the wifi on the whole day. Has never showed signs of excessive heating up compared to the power hungry processors and screens of todays phone. Seems like ill keep this for another half a decade , probably. All that i have typed about the phone may be completely irrelevant in 2016 , since the indsutry has leaped humungously since this phone was out. Its more like a tribute to this phone, since it was and still is an absolute pleasure using it , even in 2016.

I had bought this device 4 years ago. It's good but ram management is an issue . Also, the battery is kind of annoying . I've changed the battery for 3 times after all these years. Unfortunately, I definitely have to upgrade and replace it with a better phone due to its low android version.

cyanogenmod 11 kitkat 4.4.4 for galaxy s advance. i used this and its super stable. maxi cm lollipop 5.1.1. currently im using this and not recommending it for daily use. if you wish to install a custom rom you can read xda posts and get a clear idea.

i bought Samsung s advance in late 2012...which cost me 20000 INR at that tme, the Samsung provide its firmware update to jelly bean 4.1.2 and mi device got hang and crash issues. many users complaint abt it but samsung doesn't provide stable and lag free updates for it. mi brother bought note 1 which cost 34000 INR and he's also suffers with the same problem. then in 2013 i switch to moto g 1 st gen. which cost me only 14000 INR and in 2015 received android 5.1.1 update. very stable and lag free android firmware. i have moto x play also with 5.1.1 android version. now finally i have decided not to recommend Samsung devices to others after very low quality of services, i just want lag free android experience but Samsung was unable to serve me that.

I've had this fone for two years. I like it though it has some very disappointing attributes. The battery cannot last beyond seven hours (from 100% to 0% ) EVEN WHEN IT IS OFF! In addition, its wifi has NEVER worked. I felt so bad about these two errors I vowed not to buy another Samsung fone again. It was very fast when new but slowed down as I added apps( over 70!). I got rid of many of them and it is faster now. It has nice features like great camera though. Perhaps if I were to root it it'd improve. Could someone please tell me how this can be safely done?

Almost all Samsung Smartphone's have on/off switch problem(right top button) after frequent usage ie one to two years. Samsung authorised service centre charge Rs. 450/- for this replacement verses Rs 50/- for LG. Most puzzling even is that why on earth these hardware tech people pose a blind eye on this defect.

Here's my advise for those who are having apps hung. Sometime apps didn't calibrate correctly after software/firmware update. Hence, follow below to clear apps cache files. 1. Power off your phone. 2. Boot it up on safe mode (Power button+volume up+home) 3. Wipe cache partition. This should only clear your apps cache files. 4. Reboot. It should be fine. Else, throw them up and get new phone. LOL. But mostly it works for me.

let me tell you my friend even phone like galaxy s4 hangs after official kitkat update(chek on youtube). soooo.. if you are using official 4.1.2 this is common issue in it. but good news is there is solution.... first of all hard factory reset your phone(back up before doing this). before and after factory reset do wipe cache partition. your phone is stable now. don't use(install) tone of unnecessary apps. just save those apps in archive form. only install when you need one. before using any heavy apps force stop some apps that are running in background.(go to app manager find app and force stop it) and clean memory in ram manager. delete all background process. don't check on "do not keep activity"(option available in developer option) always move your app to sd card. disable system app like voice command,maps,chat on,google+,samsung apps,samsung push service,swype(only if you are not using) talk and youtube(use tubemate instead) it doesn't effect on my phone do it on your own risk and on need of use this apps. clean your ram often(not too often) before you going to lock your phone as well as unlock phone. i am using this phone without rooting and it's works smoothly...

I fell in love with it as well. But I faced the same problem, phone went completely dead. Upon enquiry I learnt that the motherboard needs change. Thinking about the cost of a replacement, I switched to another set. I heard that motherboard is a big issue of this phone, and Samsung should have recalled all such sets. Out of warranty, now just to make the phone working again, I have to shell out nearly 6,500 bucks, which cannot be recovered if I choose to resell it. The old Samsung piece has thus become a costly piece of junk, which I bought in 2012, December at Rs 19,500!

Samsung has not released kit kat update for galaxy s advance. However we can update to custom rom that is cyanogen mod 11(Kit kat 4.4.4). I have installed it and it runs very smooth.How to do it you can go to youtube where step by step instructions are given.

Hanging is probably a feature of this phone. Always hangs but doesn't die :( Needs around 5 recharges per day so am always carrying a power bank with me. A worst phone from Samsung. Not a great camera, comes without zoom. Apps do not perform well with this set.

But you can use CyanogenMod 11 (you can find it on XDA) @rosy yadav: this phone releasen on Jan 2012, and this makes this phone almost 3 years old. what can u expect? cmiiw but I rem in 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Version there's a zoom option.

hi pravish......your mobile after flashing stopped at the cyanogen logo means you entered into a boot loop. you can get out of it just by clearing cache and wiping dalvik cache....no need of flashing original rom and bricking your mobile.......

yes by seeing only it will be nice and slim. But when we use it hangs like any thing. Even without any software installed also it hangs frequently. If we clear the RAM all the time also it hangs as it is. When an important incoming call comes then at that time it hangs. when i want to end the call then at that time it hangs. Really worst. Suffering like any thing still with that mobile. Even i downgraded to Gingerbread. After downgrading from Jellybean to Gingerbread mobile became fast. But hanging problem is there some times. When it is in Jelly bean mobile is very slow and hanging. Hm ok just to say about the phone i posted. Because now also i am using since around 1 year. Don't ever buy samsung. Go for Micromax A116 or Micromax android one etc or Xiamo Mi3 or Red mi or Moto E like that

s advance with carbon kitkat 4.4.4; pos: fast UI, camera and sound are excellent, with screenshot, fast capturing, fast browsing, no lag, wifi is ok, network is ok perfect rom for me. cons: battery drains so fast but dont worry modify your phone with this procedure and your battery will last long. i didn't do odex and art rom because i dont know how. :)

it depends upon how you use it......for example if you use it for gameing it will give you 3hr to 4hr backup....if you are watching a movie then 4 to 5hr ....and if you use wifi you can use it for like 3hr continuous and still there will be 30% to 40% battery left.....it will give you a whole day backup on medium use :).....

Samsung is notorious in terms of dropping support quite early for their phones (after about 2 years), but at least they make modability quite easy, which is what I would recommend in this case as well if you want a Kitkat firmware.

i am using this phone since 13months. its a very good hardware, but the problem is support by Samsung is worst. many are saying this phone works with 2.3 but its out dated(some recent apps wont support 2.3) jellybean update is worst, but Samsung launched bug fixed version of jb which is good and smooth enough with good battery backup(but problem is poor ram management), but is not aired in India but still u can download other country firmware and update by Odin3.09. waited with big hope for official kitkat update, but samsung didnt even update a phone like s3. Xda developers are doing better job than samsung developers, i searched in google and finally installed CM11 kitkat 4.4.4 rom(best custom rom). Now i am enjoying the best potential of this wonderful hardware

It's a great phone. But not with the official ROM. With the Kitkat ROM from Novafusion.pl, it works marvellous. But I'm still encountering some problem like insufficient space for when flashing a GAPPS. Overall, I would give it a 9/10 for the pricing, design ＆ feature.

I tried latest 4.4.4, but found 2 big issues 1. while making call screen goes blank, and not coming back even after pressing power and home button. however it came back after if i pressed power 2-3 time, but call goes in backgorung, if u switch it goes blank again. so only think u can hang up. 2. if i try to reboot it stuck on s advance logo, need to go to recovery and than do reboot system again.

Haven't tried with big games, but that would depend on phone's hardware more than the software (software is important too). You know that this phone's specifications are not the crown of technology. If you want to play big/heavy games buy more expensive phone (this one could work too, as I said haven�t tried). About multitasking I think it's OK...if you don't open all the apps you have there.

Google it. Type: S Advance i9070 4.1.2 XXLQL. Must be careful and follow the instructions. You all realize that you can damage the phone when doing this. But on the other hand if you are careful and do exactly like the instructions say you don't need to be worried. I have done it 4 times, going from 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 and back.

If u r not using the phone heavily it goes for two-three days which was not possible with prior versions of jb. When in sleep the battery should waist 1-1.5% per hour. Battery performance depends on how much u use the phone. The problem with prior jb-s was eating the battery while not usinng the phone. It was going from 100% to 70% in five-six hours.

That depends on usage, For (very very)Heavy user u have to recharge u'r battery several times a day or tenths to hundreds times each week :-D :DD and much lesser than that in airFlight mode (that means No calls,No internet data conection,No SMS,no chatting :-(((!!!! ) :'((

PS: Also the led flash is so much bright & powerful. Also 16GB of inbuilt memory is very useful. In Android we can use memory card only to store mp3 and videos. All apps and games use only the internal memory of the phone. So 16GB very useful. It's so rare that so many nice features in one set. I have played almost all high end Android games by Gameloft on my Galaxy s Advance without any lag. I have played Gangster Rio(2 GB game) on this phone so smoothy. I have also played Nova 3, Amazing Spider-Man, Dark knight rises, Asphalt 8, Six Guns, Dungeon Hunter 3 - all games above 1& half GB and around 1GB. All games are smooth. People must note one thing that all the above mentioned games lag even on very high end phones like s4. I clear my ram before playing these games. I also close unwanted programmes like antivirus etc. and every thing goes so smooth. People who say this phone is crap and hangs are ones who does not know how to use this masterpiece of a phone. One wise thing to do is not to upgrade it to JB. Yes! Iam on gingerbread the most suitable Android for this darling set.

To solve your problem, 1) Root 2) Install CoCore-E 9.0 kernel 3) Install Custom ROM, any stable custom ROM.. for me JellyMod 4.0 (Android 4.1.2) is okay, but you can try other Custom ROM from XDA Developer website,, there are a lot of Custom ROM based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat 4) Install No-frills CPU Control from Play Store, Set CPU to 1228 MHz max, 200 MHz min, Governer pegasusq, I/O scheduler VR... this is the setting that im using right now, but you can try other setting which you think it's good for you.. 5) Download NOVA Launcher from Play Store, and download Solstice HD Icon from Blackmart,,,, its User Interface is really gorgeous and fast fluid! And also you can download Transparent Weather Clock,, put it on your home screen,, it is really nice 6) Firmware that I'm using is DDULP8, i think this firmware is good, other firmware is also good but i don't try them yet,, but i think this one is not bad at all. Those combination above which I'm using right now, it is really smooth, fast, no lags, and quiet battery saver. Playing game is also good, no lags...

Hi Perla to do that connect the phone using the USB Cable to The computer after that in the root directory create a folder called "Notifications" Without the quotation marks after that put the .mp3 ringtone in the folder. Then go to the phone and change the notification tone in the Settings and voila you have the new ringtone.

If your phone hangs or freezes most of the time, you can solve this by factory resetting your phone then go to settings> Application manager> All apps. choose some of the in-built apps that eats up your memory and disable them. Aftr 6 months using this phone here what i found .. use stock jb ..i m on ddlup8 ..do wipe cache..factory reset..then disable Google partner setup .. Then root ... Install cwm (credit : xda)..flash cocore 9.0 (credit : cocafe/ xda) ..that's it ..enjoy smooth jb ..best battery life ..mine last for approx 24 hrs in normal use ..sometimes more .camera quality improved ..if possible avoid fb apps(use browser)..u may use messenger instead..avoid too many apps ..good luck ..

for those who says this phone lags a lot after upgrade, go to application manager and force stop all the unwanted applications which runs in the background...and time to time clear your ram... i too faced a lot problem after jb update...but after doing this i love my phone a lot.. even i am able to play all the hardcore games which consumes around 170mb of ram....

i just downgraded to gb 2.3.6 from service centre and all hanging problem gone. i think the jb 4.1.2 developed by samsung is having lots of bug in it. its better to use original gb untill kitkat update comes and run smoothly. with vey low ram games run smoothly in gb.better not to try rooting.it will void warranty. go to service centre and downgrade to original. there is no much difference in gb and jb other than interface. holo launcher can give you feeling of jb in gb if you need it.only problem is minor network drop in gb which is managable upto limit. just selet only gsm in settings which will diminish the problem(not totaly).

switch off it. go to recovery using three keys volume up , home , switch on / off , .. press these three keys simultaneously . .. leave them when u see android logo .. wait some seconds ..now u will see recovery mode ..note that here touch screen will not work .. u have to select volume up and dawn for moving up and dawn .. and switch on/ off key for selection ...! In recovery mode select wipe data / factory reset ..and select yes ... after that select reboot system now ... wait some minutes ..phone will restart

Dear friends, i am using this device from Oct 2012, i also upgrade it with jb first russian version, then Indian version lp8, i tried Italy version also. but the main issue was its low ram. today's androids apps are very heavy and they consume 20/40 MB ram.. i also tried cm mode 10.2 but its not like official ROM, so i switch beck to jelly bean Indian firmware. my suggestion for this device :- wait for kit kat version if its available for s advance or roll beck to ginger bread. jellybean build for 1gb ram devices. those who have problem after upgrading to official 4.1.2 i want to share my experience. i upgraded my phone 1 month ago. as usual it hang most of the time,lags, no gaming. it became totally a useless phone. after that i went again to samsung service center n told about all the problems. then they installed 4.1.2 again. now believe me its supper fast. better than older 3.2. I think this is a very good device, but you need a rom. After you get it, it can be terrible. Freezing, lag and other problems, but after you do the "magic"... No freezes, lag, everything runs fine! :)

No buddy custom recovery can be replaced with stock if u flash with odin, personally tested by me multiple times. in fact when you flash stock firmware using odin custom recovery, kernel etc . r replaced by stock leaving your warranty intact. use odin 1.85 for stock gb firmware,odin 3.07 for stock jb firmwares, and custom recovery for custom roms.the binary counter will be tripped only if u flash custom rom with odin.refer to xda forums for more detailed info

driver is available with samsung thats why they have updated to 4.1.2 from 2.3.6 with new karnel. so driver is not a issue may be hardware type could be a issue. but a single core processor can run 4.4 so that will not be a big issue for it. lets hope for the best. this phone requires a stable update from oem.

dont wait for 4.2.2. may be 4.2.2 also has such stupid bugs so guys root ur phones and install custom kernel Cocore 8.0 install pure vanilla custom rom from XDA forums... below are the links that you will need. for rooting Kernel link instructions to install (follow universal kernel flasher technique coz its easy) for file for ROM guys dont be afraid about bricking just follow the steps and remember 1st root, 2nd install kernel and 3rd install rom.... its the best ROM for our device trust me i m using it from months

Had this phone for months and I love it. Mini than those Sx but powerful also. Had updated to Android 4.1.2 and it performs better than the original 2.x. Great phone at a cheaper price. Btw, if you want to update to latest OS use it with Samsung Kies and it will do itself the update.

Even Subway Surfers lags. And most of people have these same exact issues. I don't get how you don't have these problems, I myself tried out XXLQG and its opening dialer, contacts, messages 10 seconds. UI is also laggy, not to mention any other games that are totally unplayable...

i dunno how u people use ur mobiles. i am a normal user with fb, whatsapp, viber, outlook and yahoo mail running in bg and net always on. i don't play heavy games and i installed few games like subway surf, temple run 2, cut the rope, crush candy saga, daddy was a thief etc.. all games run smoothly. i didn't experience any delay in opening contacts, phone dialer, or any other app except fb (takes few secs). whats the need of spreading wrong information. i am not the manufacturer rite. i have used jb indian firmware b4 and this XXLQG is far far better than that in every aspect. again i am saying i am a normal user and i won't install many memory hungry apps. since its an 768mb ram device.

hlo.. i had brought samsung galaxy s advance from flipkart.. at a range of 13000rs .. i like this phone very much.. it gives a great xperience for me with its 1ghz dualcore processor.. it supports all format video up to a diamention of 720p.. it also supports 1080p on mx player,even though its lagging.. ! nd while coming to the gaming section it supports almost all games.. i had played nfs mostwanted-its about 1.8gb.. it works perfectly on my phone.. then now I am writing this by using the voice detection powered by google.. by telling it's screen protection I have to say it's scratch resistant with metallic substance not with crystals .. or I like this phone very much it gives a great experience for me.. !!
