Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover - User Reviews

  • It's because the android versions is too old. The apks have to be made for android 2.3

  • Hi everyone on this phone I am unable to install any apks to this phone as for every time it says there was a problem parsing the package . This super annoying as I have tried everything yet nothing works like for example I have an sd card in , I have tried to use apk editor to change the apks manifest which didnt work . I have tried device faker which also didnt work so I dont know but if you guys have any suggestions let me know !

  • lel my phone is smashed in pieces by then:D Late comment

  • Dry it 3 days in hot box, put in rise, batery take out

  • I remember seeing this phone a long time ago, and here it was referred to "Samsung Galaxy X"

  • Cant use it, memory full, bought sd card, memory still full. Factory reset & phone perfect until went on internet & back to square one! I tjink ill bin it!

  • My first smartphone. I was a uncareful kid so the water and dust resistance was a major selling point. Its really difficult to understand samsung as a company. The xcover phones are good, but they are dumbed down with hardware thats 3 years behind the current midrange phones. This is a issue with all xcovers. It wasnt so bad with the first one but 2 and 3 are years behind. Water resistance is a good thing tho, angry birds while under the shower!

  • My Samsung s5690 galaxy Xcover is only rebooting when I on it please help me

  • if only the Android could be upgraded and the SD micro card would work better with apps. I'd never change for any other phone then. Biking, moto-crossing, canoeing and just using it in pouring rain when everyone at the bus stop tries to protect their fancy i-phones from getting ruined. This has served me longtime and it will be my 2nd phone for my outdoor activities also in the future.

  • Yes. I know

  • lol i dropped this phone on tile for tesing, unsurprinsingly phone breakes at the impact from 2 meters, second time display brokes up and third drop dead, but huh it keeps me alive for 2.5 years

  • LED flash not working ,Does anybody any idea how to fix this problem.P.S.Left in water for 12 hours.this could be the problem, but i cleaned deposition of water, now putted in he water for 5 mins and led automatically turned on but not bright, maybe the water get again in,not so waterproof at all

  • Does anyone know how to extend the number of rings before it switches to voicemail or is answered

  • I have a problem with my XCover. My dad gave it to me as my phone broke and i knew i had water resistance. So i tried it, and it worked. But one time i forgot to close the back cover all the way and a little bit of water got in. I let it dry for a week. It was ok for 10 weeks and then i had this strange glitch. My battery was drained completely and i put it charge. After 10 minutes i saw the screen that you would normally have when your phone was off and it was charging but there was a triangle in blue color and it had a battery simbol in it but it had been crossed. And if i tried to turn it on it would boot but when it booted into the os it shutdown. Can anyone help me? P.S The battery has been changed one time.

  • i used this phone once, and it was really nice

  • Lol,but what matters 3 minutes in 10 cm of water

  • on the specification it says for 30minutes not 33minutes... you should learn to read more clearly

  • me too

  • Had this phone for over two years now and not had too many problems. Phone seems to hold charge okay unlike a lot of others comments on here but one issue IS the internal memory and apps. The problem is that even if you have a huge amount free on your SD card, as I do, it need to go through the phone's memory first, kind of like a funnel, so if you've got a large memory app, it ain't gonna store it. Found this out by having a play with factory resetting it and it depended which order I put the apps on the SD card as to whether it would fit or not. Big ones first, fine, big ones last, no chance. Hope that helps. Now it's an old phone, it's starting to stall or temporarily freeze for a minute or two.

  • I've had two different Samsung Galaxy Xcover S5690 now... Both of then have, after about half a year, started to crash more and more. The first one could not download any apps, receive any messages nor take pictures because it said the memory card was full though it was empty. It then started to not be able to keep the battery full... It shut down after about two minutes of using it. Then I Got a second one (It was either that or nothing) and it worked perfectly fine for about 8 months, but then it started having the same battery problem as the former one and now has to charge all the time to stay on.... Both of the battery have swollen to three times the original size. I've never droppes them, wetted them, hit them nor anything else that could have caused this. It just happend over time... Waste of time and money... Note: My mother's cousin who is a tecnic engineer couldn't help me either. He'd never seen anything like it...

  • crap phone ,my xcover gets water in after 33 mins and 10 cm of water not 1 meter, stupid thing

  • how did u solve the sd card thing.am facing same bro

  • Me and my brother have been using them for 3 years now. Few months ago changed the battery. Still works great!

  • today is preety unusable i'm playing just zombie road kill 3d,but i have lg g pad 8.3 tablet

  • My battery does not last 7 hrz... But its a wonderful device ;-)

  • mine keeps two days with medium usage

  • hey guys i had the same problem with battery, i installed the app Advanced Battery Calibrator and Battery life repair i did what the app told me and the problem was gone ;D my sister had this phone and she had the same problem with battery , i did the same on their phone and now the battery can stand one day with normal use .

  • how fast your battery drains out?

  • my battery gets hotter and drains quickly.what could be the problem?

  • Hey everyone wait for upcoming samsung galaxy xcover 3

  • this phone don't have 16M colors just 256K

  • problem solved i check for updates and i got one with lockscreen update and my battery chare 100%

  • I have a problem, my phone is charging up to 80-90% and then write a charged battery, and placed it out again so did show after 30 seconds again charged battery, and there will no longer charge at all. someone has this problem. what to do?

  • Bought this phone as a present. I was not aware of the limited memory. I had to Google around and find a solution by rooting it and using app2sd and a partitioned sd card to move the installed applications to somewhere with enough space. This seems to have solved the issue. Looks like it has more limitations. I haven't found out how to use the memory card as the default picture storage location or use custom ringtones. Have not tried getting it wet. Rather not.

  • I have a lot of free memory on my card but whenever I want to download something it immediately goes on the phone and my memory on phone is full now. How can i change it? How can i use the card instead of phone memory?

  • No good sound

  • Mine fell in the swimming pool twice in two years. 1st time it was in perfect condition after drying it with a towel. The 2nd time it was submerged for two minutes. I disassembled it completely (small screwdrivers required), left it for two days, reassembled on it worked. It is still fine after three months.

  • Im a builder. Really good on site. Dropped so many times as high as 3m drop and sceen still sweet. Does all the stuff I need ,youtube, facebook, google etc. im not a phone nerd so im happy with it.Had mine 2 years.

  • If you need the phone because you drop it often, work in a humid or dusty environmeant. Get it. It is built for that and it works. Somewhat heavy, but I really could not destroy mine sofar

  • this phone is as shitty as it has shit on the image of this page

  • I'm about to get this phone but i dont know if it good for me or not And im about to read commnts ... Seems not good What would you say to me as advice And thx in advance

  • Im about to get this phone Is it good or not

  • Im about to get this phone Is it good or not

  • Im about to get this phone Is it good or not

  • I'm about to get this phone but i dont know if it good for me or not And im about to read commnts ... Seems not good What would you say to me as advice And thx in advance

  • I should have listened to the other comments: this phone is unusable as a smartphone. Only useful for the basic functions, too slow and cumbersome for anything else. Too bad, cause it is a great concept and I will certainly look into getting the Xcover 2, but this device is underpowered. I you are the type of person that gets annoyed at slow computers, don't get this phone.

  • upgrade to android 4.4.2

  • i broken a colleague alcatel ot 908f's with the corner of the phone with case at school

  • this is the worst phone ever...you cant unstall too much app....battery dies quickly, cant text very well...music hud nd polaris office cant open...wat kind of phone did samsung made...i hate xcover

  • My X-Cover Is Bootloop I come From Indonesian thanks...

  • i cant create a n google accuont

  • take it to the service

  • Hi guys, what do i do to my xcover if it does not wanna switch on? Will appreciate your help.

  • How could I expand teh internal memory?

  • 640h standby? Really???? Try 24h. This is what you get with smartphones. 640h is Ridiculous it would not even last half that long switched off - the person putting this together clearly has no idea and is pulling figures out of thin air or is a marketeer.

  • This phone is crap when it comes to apps and installing new updates. Slow and will crash if it has too many apps installed. If you like your apps and can't live without them, DO NOT GET THIS PHONE! If you want a sturdy work phone that will take severe use, then thumbs up, just don't use the package data, it will drain your battery within a day on full charge. Has a nice battery life if you do not use wi-fi or 3g/2g net on it.

  • can this phone convert to prepaid?

  • hie guys i just boaugt this phone and the only ploblem is droping calls am using whatsapp everyday no ploblem

  • waterproof, shockproof, dustproof is good but low internal memory and RAM processor is bad.i have it about 5 months and no one scratch

  • Can someone help me, how to improve the Ram memory,

  • My xcover is a complete waste of money. Absoltely not reliable. Drops the signal at low or mid covered places all the time and the signal dose not return even if the coverage of the place is perfect. It is very frustrating beacuse you only realizing that you are unavailable when you pick the phone out of your pocket to check the time or make a call. I almost get fired from my work beacuse of this crap. Sometimes (3 out of 10 calls) when you want to call somebody you have to try it 3 times because this shit dropping the calls. Very annoying especially when you have to make an urgent call. This phone is a crime against people! My advice is: DONT BUY IT!

  • My Xcover works just fine, no problem at all. Only problem is that it have a very low internal memory and RAM. In other way is working fine and no problems like you 3 said.

  • It is a piece of crap, turns on and off about ten times a day. We have two of the phones and have sent them away constantly they upgrade software it does nothing they have given us new phones same model same stuff happens. they say there is not a problem what the? Samsung crap as a phone company

  • This is my third S5690 Xcover and it still is a piece of crap. Very unreliable and sometimes won't re turn on for up to 3 hours. NICE IN AN EMERGENCY !! YOU CAN'T RELY ON IT !!

  • I too was constantly turns me off, my problem is the internet connection through the telephone network, change the phone company and I stop

  • can the samsung galaxy xcover reject or blogg numbers? how do i go about it

  • Can the RAM memory be upgraded? I find it too slow.

  • Gingerbread provide the ability to move applications on the SD card. But it's is working with only some kind of applications. If you want the best solution, you must root your phone (you gain full access) but you must be careful when you do this, resize you sd card in 2 partitions (the second will be used by Link2SD), install the Link2SD application. This app install all applications on the second partition, and create symlink in the internal memory.

  • No, the last version for this phone is Android 2.3.6. (Gingerbread). Kernel compiled in Dec 2012.

  • Can the OS of the phn be upgraded?

  • switch phone on while holding both ur volume buttons...when the xcover icon show, leave the lower volume button. menu will come up then say reset phone...works,but u gonna loose all ur content like apps and messages.

  • How do I change the storage from the Internal memory to the SD card?. Otherwise its internal is very low.

  • Hi. You could read opinions form other models of Samsung and You'll see that the average of people crying of how bad the phone is, it's quite little. So, even if You don't have problems with your Xcover, that doesn't mean that all the guys complaining are bad users and it's only their fault. Perhaps You're Samsung employee and You need to raise a little bit this phone's image? I think that this site is very usefull when need some users opinion over each phone model, beside the salesman's recommendations. 10x.

  • My xcover problems are similar to yours. It switches off momentarily in a particular place where the coverage is poor, and almost on a daily basis the software locks up and even though the phone appears to be on it actually won't take calls or sms's. very frustrating when trying to do business. I think I will get a Sony xperia z today.

  • This is my second phone from Samsung and I will never buy a Samsung. My conclusion is simple: I do not recommend anyone to buy samsung.

  • This phone switches on and off all the time, it is so irritating, I could scream, what is the problem!!

  • My phone has a problem with software,,,,it switches on and off by itself.how do i manage it? help me pliz,

  • All these people crying over how bad this phone is shouldn't be allowed to own phones, because if they managed to destroy this one then they're hopeless. It's a good phone, I've had mine for 1,5 years, dropped it many times while drunk but it still works as good as the day I bought it.

  • I really dont know what are you guys doing with your phones. Mine is around a year old, it fell meny times, I have put it in water, freezer, you name it. It is beaten up, but it works good and it has first screen with only one scratch. Some of you have problems with apps. Mine stores them on memory card, so i dont see a issue with small internal memory. The only thing that bothers me is the reception is sometimes really bad.

  • This phone is awful ive had it for a year now and ive had the battery changed now it wont read a samsung sd card its REALLY slow and unreliable

  • hard reset

  • my youngest daughter blocked my unlocking pattern and i forgot my goggle user details so i cant unlock my phone pls help me

  • My unit always and always hang... "fatal error" message always appear. this unit haven't fell even once since i own this. can i reset the system without removing the battery?

  • Thanks a lot for your excellent review. I have similar problems. I wish there was a way to upgrade the shitty software and see if this improves battery life, reception while I clean up the apps jungle of crap at the same time. This is a case of good ideas gone wrong by having boneheads slap things together without truly thinking about the value they should be delivering to the customer.

  • How tu unblock my Samsung galaxy xcover because i forget my google account please tell me!!!

  • Slow slow. Want let download app. Security block. Bad recept. Dont buy.return phone.

  • After 6 months I gave up and replaced my Xcover with a 'real' smartphone. True, it is solid and it looks nice. But I had many problems with storage capacity and basic functions like making a phone call or picking up the phone. The storage capacity is very disappointing: I needed to remove data from the phone almost daily. The phone was terribly slow. Worse: when I wanted to pick up the phone, it didn't respond fast enough so I was too late. Making a phone call was hard too, because often the phone just didn't follow my instructions. I was very very disappointed in this phone!

  • Screen braking is not a joke guys 1. mine broke within the first month I bought it 2. it was the first time it actually fell 3. it fell from my waist pocket while running 4. onto the small gravel surface I could put up with it's slow speed, the lack of memory, bad signal and regular Android freezing knowing that it was SUPPOSED to be tough and last. But it did not...

  • Had to change the lcd touch screen two times cause I accidentaly dropped it. I wonder if it wasnt shockproof what would have happened. Internal memory 150mb very very low every little while it asks me to clear some messages or my sim card is full in order to free space, dont bother buy it!!!!

  • Have been with this phone for niw a year, and the only problems i find with this phone now is the extremly low space. You can never have many apps or even games, the battery doesnt even last for a day, and it keeps on freezing. Thank God is was only a gift! i would regrate having spent my money on such a phone..

  • Absolutely useless! It fell twice of my lap, and it got 1 body crack and the backcover won't fully close anymore (I wonder if it keeps being water-resistant...). Perhaps it's OK as a start-smartphone for clumsy kids; but thing at least again before considering to buy this model!

  • really crap phone!!! gets shit reception next to other phones with full reception, internet stops working randomly and turns off and on at own will. piece of !@#*!!!! DO NOT BUY

  • No problem to move if u know how

  • Even if crashes ,low internal memory etc....i do not believe that this phone got a screen broken.that one who said that got a copy of the original one ....I throw it several time and it does not get even a scratch...so if u do not like the mobile u don't post comments that are not real .... if u do not know how to use it u won't like it....I have almost 20 apps and I can play without any problem....so if u don't know how to install it or if it doesn't install that mean that your mobile is a copy of the original one...

  • This phone is ok.I have had it for nearly an year now and there is no scratch in it though i haven't really dropped it or anything. The phone is pretty good for watching youtube, calling people, and you can have a few apps aswell but that's it!this phone's ram is absolute garbage and the internal storage is a joke.this phone can barely run anything and you can't fit most apps with the uppdates into this phone.it's a big issue for me since i can't even have the facebook app or twitter since i don't have space.Rooting this phone won't help at all.only positives i can find about this phone is the fact that it's quite cheap and reliable phone. but if you have a bit bigger budget, you should't buy and outdated phone like this.

  • The Xcover is a nice looking phone and it is waterproof as they say. It has some cool features too. However, the internal memory sucks! This was a gift, I would never have bough it for myself because I cannot have 2 good games on it and if I download 1 solid game it freezes like crazy so playing the game is pointless. In terms of internal memory, Samsung FAILED this phone.

  • Yeah, it will be yours for ever, a qualified guess, some where in one of your drawer, because it is totally worthless due to the exceptional low memory capacity, where you should be happy if you can have TRE apps or less. Nice design though, and probably good and cheap marketing. But if you want to do other thing but make calls and send SMS, if you are lucky enough to have a connection. Well this is the phone for you :)! Ps. Don't even think about playing games ...

  • Can one update this phone to ICS?

  • Had the phone for almost a year now & I guess it's o.k. The internal memory storage is a joke and it doesn't matter how big your SD memory card is, you will never be able to have a lot of apps. It has proven itself waterproof but it's starting to just randomly go off and on again. I don't regret getting it because it's my baby, also because it's probably the longest phone I had without losing or breaking it. If you need a phone that will stay in your life forever, this is the phone for you. It's a cool phone, so back off you haters.

  • i can understand y its very unpopular with only 1.6% the internal storage is jst for applications u cant use it for music or camera. its a dump phone .. im regreting having it

  • What is the durability of this phone? Didn,t samsung company tested this phone before pushing it into market?

  • slow procssor

  • Hi everyone. Samsung Galaxy Xcover 1 is great phone, however it's pain for you when you need many apps installed. The ROM is really low and you can install only few apps. Not all apps can be transfered over to Micro-SD card. The main problem in this smart phone is also battery life. If you're heave user and use your phone all the time, battery life is 3-6 hours, but in reasonable usage it can be used 24 hours. The plus is waterproof, I used it in rain and it worked perfectly all the time. The build quality is awesome. Screen is enough for me to see all the content. Internal memory is like nothing and card is 2 GB which is coming with Samsung. Overally phone is good, but it's slow when memory is at end, so don't download many apps. Samsung's useless apps are not working, they are not even supporting this model, so why in the eart Samsung install those non-working apps from junk to phones? You can't even delete these useless apps. For example Music Hub open's, but can't install suggested update, tried in mobile and wifi network. Does not download anything. Samsung Market never open no matter how much I try. Overally good phone, but software is junky. Also in poor 3G/2G areas calls are dropping and low quality, also bars are low when in another Samsung simple phone bars are better and signal is overally much better. But good phone if you need phone that work in rain etc. But you can find maybe better phones. I don't need better phone because I can live with these problems. I use so little phone to call etc. And I use only few apps.

  • I bought this phone two months ago. Hate it. Hav had nothing but problems with it. Not enough storage. Cant download any games cause i cant put on sd card. Freezes up all the time. Constantly havin to reboot. Glass screen broke after havin for only a week. Didnt even drop very hard. Fell off the couch. Use to b able to upload pictures to facebook but it wont let me anymore (can anybody tell me how to fix this part?). I really really wish i had read up on the reviews for this phone before i bought it cause i seriously wouldnt hav got it. I will b more selective in the future thats for sure. Samsung should b embarassed for putting this phone on the market. Bad. Bad. Bad.

  • An X-cellent phone. The durability and ruggedness is perfect for an active person. The bright torch has come in handy on many night hikes.

  • Phone have only 316 Ram ..

  • i got one of this i bought from Norway last 12/12. yes it's only 316 not 512.

  • I think these bad reviews about the screen breaking are jokes. My wife has this phone and loves it. None of those other problems with dropped calls and texts. And we have dropped it. Kicked, Dropped it in water, Still works just fine, NOt ONE scratch

  • this phone is no good every time the calls dropped slow I never again buy me a sansung Motorola is the best

  • Don't buy this phone or any other Samsung. We have four different Samsung phones this one is the worst, they freeze , drop calls, looses texts. Chips easily and you can't have many apps on it even with a huge sd card. Sad really, I'm pissed I spent so much on a dog.

  • It is a worthless piece of non-working technology. It's is very slow, you can't put big apps on it and sometimes dies for no reason. It is also not very durable, I didn't drop it more than other phones, but with this one the screen broke. The battery is also dead now, so i'm trying to kill it by drowning, but that won't succeed. DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!!

  • Useless in low signal areas. Regularly crashes, drops calls, locks up and fails to indicate its sending everything to the ansafone. Slow camera. A complete nightmare - I'm going back to a Nokia ! A real liability if you depend on communication for business or safety.

  • This phone is a bloody joke. my little brother accidently Dropped it. On gravel. Screen. Oblitterated 27 hours of use. it is just the best (or worst) joke samsung ever made.

  • Maybe you should not have then bought the phone, and first read the reviews, then think of a different samsung phone, like the S2-S4's

  • Worst phone I've owned, constantly crashes and needs re-booting, voice calls are impossible to hear unless you are in a quiet padded room, voice calls randomly dis-connect and to top it all off it fell from approx 2 feet high onto carpet!! and promptly smashed the screen.

  • Junk, wouldn't recommend to anyone. Internal memory is pathetic, install a couple of apps and it's full, constantly crashes and needs rebooting, disconnects during voice calls, impossible to hear voice calls unless you are in a dead quiet room, even after a supposed software update, and to top it all off, phone was mildly dropped from around 2 feet high onto a carpeted floor which promptly shattered the screen, very disappointing phone.

  • No front camera..

  • I like it! If you don't use too many apps at the same time and clear the memory now and then the phone works perfectly.

  • slow procssor,

  • Yeps I have the same problem. Drives my hubby crazy! I am trialling it at the moment with my sim to see if any difference, first few hours and the phone has rebooted all on its own. Grr - so far I havent dropped of the network but figure it just needs time to start doing it! Looks like I am off to the phone carrier to get another phone :(

  • yes, bad bad bad memory slow proseccor and%/%&/% phone my first touchscreen phone no rom no anything my last samsung I go buy HTC next :D

  • there is no front camera, so no :/

  • Bad battery, slow proccesor, small memory, very bad service from Samsung. My first and my last Samsung.

  • hi, i think you must take this thing you call it sonyoung s000 back to china and tell them to stop sending this little chinies phone to sa.it keeps on doing its onwthings and at the end you have to pay. you must find the other way to make money.not to rob us by this thing

  • Xperia Go is highly recommended for tough phone.

  • Hi.r u sure it will work?

  • This is shit of samsung. I got this phone about 1 year and i got completly grey head.

  • Gorilla glass my ass, this is the weakest glass I've seen! I stepped on my phone lightly and the screen cracked completely. I'm 44 kg and I've stepped on loads of other phones if I'd left them on the floor, and this is the only one that broke.

  • hi my mame is ken,how do i stop picture uplode.

  • Yes same experience here! I want to find out if you can block a phone number?

  • I just want to find out if u can receive videocalls with this phone? Cos I doubt u can make videocalls?

  • Wouldn' recommend this phone. I love the look and feel of my Xcover, but I just wish it would work properly! After about a week of use the phone kept going to sleep and freezing. The only way to switch it on again was to pull the battery out. It went in for repairs for 3 weeks, and froze the next morning after I got it back. Now it won't pick up WiFi any longer. It says the signal strength is excellent, but keeps obtaining IP address and Disconnecting. No amount of rebooting or battery pull is changing this. Phone is not even 3 months old!

  • Yes i have same problem. it felt once and My display broke... it's still working though

  • Hello! i managed to root this thing; works like charm! check out this link: download the guide, and read it through, easy bizzy, lemon squeezy... in simple english, put the SD on card reader and format it into two partitions, 1 FAT and 1 ext2 (use easeus partition manager, or something), copy the zip file software into SD, then restart the phone while pressing..... all the steps on guide!!! then install Link2SD then you're good to go! enjoy folks!

  • this is very nice phone

  • waterproof yes ,up untill i dropped it for the first time and the glass broke .8months don't like it

  • This phone has been a huge disappointment and has just let me down at a crucial moment. Now I cannot connect it to my PC, and I've tried everything (different cable, different port, turning on tethering, turning on debug mode) - but the option of mass storage has simply stopped. I thought the annoying tiny app space was the worst until now.

  • Just take a Gmail acount and you're ready to go.

  • this phone cant install more apps, the factory apps take up all the space on the phones tiny memory storage and they cant be removed, constantly having to restart phone to keep a data conection current, the screen hasnt got a good resolution, but it is waterproof, so when i get fed up with it and chuck it in the sea it will still work, dont buy a phone like this you will regret it

  • Hi my phone has blocked the screen. It requires google account information of which i don't have

  • Do not buy this, you will regret! Most important Play Store apps, especially those requiring a lot of permissions, cannot be moved to SD, so you will be stuck with no memory in no time.

  • How to make the phone to show the lock-screen with the front buttons?

  • Hi, have tried to change memory but can't find where you do that. Please explain for a technophobe. Many thanks

  • Hi guys. for memory. install move to SD card software.

  • the phone we cant tell the switch off...if you call the anoter mobile when this phone is switch off. but my mobile cant tell them ...what can i do please tell me..

  • Hi guys, I really need some help. I have the samsung xcover. The phone storage is constantly full and none of the applications will save onto the SD card, so the SD card memory is completely empty and the phone storage is full. Can someone out there please help me!.

  • This phone is real samshit because memory is too low and i can't play most of good games !!! walterproof is good !

  • It is water proof?

  • While on the phone is lock press and release the power button and volume down volume button (at the same time). It worked for me

  • Thx ASakura. i have another question... how can i activate the flashlight? By pressing the volume button doesn`t work..

  • the rest of the ram is being used by the phone system, what the stats show you is the ram available to you

  • i have this one already its great very nice

  • Hy. I have the same problem as you. Do you find any solution?

  • great phone really durable...ive taken calls in the shower no problems..brilliant phone

  • nice

  • Hello everyone, I recently bought S5690 Galaxy Xcover and it shows that it has only 316 RAM but gsmarena tells us it has 512RAM, is it possible that i got an older version of the phone, or are is rest of the RAM in permanent usage?

  • Download any Mobile Data Switch widget from Play.

  • Check this manual:

  • hy all can any one tell me how to turn off the internet on this phone x cover cos its draining my credid every day all i want is the wifi on ??

  • can someone help me i got the x cover and its draining my credid how can i turn off the internet off not the wifi

  • I definitely have to agree with you, sir. Ruggedness is the main feature of this phone. I have it and I am very satisfied with it.

  • can u download ringtones on d phone

  • Look for link2sd, make 2 partition on your sd card(1 fat and 1 ext 2),root your phone, run link2sd and will have more storage space for installing app.

  • HUV, I have the same problem. Two times in service with no solutions. A bad phone. Regret to buy it.

  • After installing two apps (Angry Birds different versions) it says "OUT OF MEMORY" when trying to install more apps. How do I install apps on the SD card?

  • How can u change the theme on Xcover ?

  • There is a simple solution to this problem. all you need to do is root your phone. Superuser is a simple application download which enables you to root the phone or download it onto your memorycard via pc and then start up the phone using bios mode. install the software and then you can download an app such as droidsailsApp2SD which will move all the apps you want from phone memmory to SD. Just remember things like widgets need to be on the phone itself to auto start on startup but if you dont want auto widgets then everything from your playstore to your facebook can be moved

  • I was totally missled by the phone dealer they told me that this phone was not only water proof but also shock/shatter proof i would have never pushed the limits had i known its limits were water only mine took a swan dive off some equipment i was working on (more than 30 ft) onto the concrete and shattered the glass on the front so it turns out it is water proof and shock proof just not shatter proof cause she still works like a dream despite her busted screen ha

  • I use the Samsung Galaxy xCover (GT-S5690) every day. Had problem with the first version of the phone (before I got a new one from Samsung, through: thephonehouse.com). The button to turn of the screen/turn of the phone got stuck. But this was not the only problem with this phone, the main problem is that the internal memory is very tiny. Sure the screen is bad, but you have to make sure what types of phones you are comparing it to, you can't compare it to the Samsung Galaxy SII or SIII or a another phone that came after the release of the xCover. And the main usage of this phone is not to have the best hardware properties, or hardware performance. But to handle ruff surroundings like water and dirt. And work day and night without interruption. For my first version of the phone I had problem with the instability of the system. But learned later that that the reason for this was that the size of the microSD - card was to big (32 GB) and that I had format it in a Windows system. You have to format It in the phone. After you get it from the store, the safest thing to do is to reset it, and simultaneously format the micro - SDcard (the maximum size has to be: 8 GB, not 32 GB as the manufacturer indicate). The reason for this is that the big 32 GB card slows down the system. And the last thing to worry about is the tiny internal memory, you can't have to many programs in the system, even when you have 8 GB in external memory (micro SD). Every program still need internal memory. And you have only about 150 megabyte to store your programs :( But now when I have a different phone, but still xCover it works fine :) You have not to worry to get protective shell or screen protective films. This is unnecessary for this phone. I have even had it in a sauna, but kept it in a bucket of water to cool it down. Recommend you to get the Samsung Galaxy xCover (GT-S5690)if you wan't a phone that is robust.

  • I had this samsung phone for three days and smoke started coming out of it. The fire brigade said I was very lucky to be alive.

  • :) I buy another Samsung Xcover, it stop working at the end of the day i buy it, but from Samsung give me new one !!!

  • just because you had a bad experiance with one of the worst phones they make dont let that put you off i have had 2 samsungs the ace s5830 and the ace plus s7500 they are 1000x better than and iphone and 100000000000x better than htc sony huawei phones the build of samsung phones is second to none

  • Samsung sold me a Galaxy Xtreme 2 weeks ago and now it doesn't work. I talked to 3 customer service reps and all of them gave me the brush off. I'm throwing this 300 dollar cell phone in the trash and will not buy another Samsung product ever!

  • oui

  • 3G: only 900 / 2100

  • isn't This phone is sell in asia ?

  • I've Lost Password

  • Does this model also have one that works in the 850 band for 3g ?? Does anybody know?

  • six days old. shuts down by its self, cant get soft cover anywhere, otterbox dont make them, so i got a phone I cant protected great

  • i have the x cover and its blue tooth is shit the phone is shit it keeps turning its self off drops out in the middle of calls it is shit and if you want it fixed it will take 2 weeks to fix it i didnt spend good money on a phone just to have to send it back to samsung and be left with out a phone do not buy one they are a waste of money

  • I have the same problems like "Narcisa". WiFi conections are very bad, nearby phone have 5 and I only 2 lines. Between calls phone reset itself. It very slow. I dont know maybee I only have bad luck or this phone is realy bad or not good made.

  • I agree with you. The memory size is just ridiculous. I foolishly bought a 8GB SD card hoping it will fix the problem but to my great disappointment all the apps I tried to download went to the internal memory which is already full.

  • this phone no gorila glas display

  • Worst phone ever. I bought it in March and from the beginning I had different problems. First the Internet signal was constantly down. I had to reset the phone 3-4 times a day. When somebody was calling it looked that the phone was closed even if it was not. Sometimes the person calling me said that he was calling but I had no missed calls. The phone used to interrupt in the middle of the conversation. The phone was closing down all of a sudden at least once a day. I had it sent to the service twice. The first time they changed the soft. After that the Internet connection issue was solved. But the phone still wasn't ok. The second time they gave me the same phone, but new. Now I have to sent it back to the service because the calling and closing problems still persist. I am not pleased at all with this phone. And lets not forget that it is a very slow one also.

  • awesome awesome phone

  • I have a new one that is deaf as a post. Very poor reception of Telstra signal compared to other phones here in the office. Not sure if it's an individual faulty unit or not. Multiple S3's here all work much better on the same network.

  • I bought this phone before 4 days and I notice until now these problems: First and more important the internal memory of 150MB. They play with our IQ. I thought that if I buy external memory chip (which I bought 8GB), I have solve the problem. This doesnt happen because when I install an application (any application), some MB of this application takes space at internal memory and you cannot do anything to avoid this. The result is after you have installed few applications the phone slow down and stack all the time. Second the battery life is too sort.

  • i just bought one ,gr8 ,but having a problem with btooth not picking up devices, also memory seem less than specs

  • I did used it in the shower. No problems. I alse use to wash it when the touch gets dirty... :D

  • Maybe

  • We can use it in the shower?

  • what a great phone i don't know what the probs other peeps are having but me personally no probs at all 2 and a half days use before i need to charge what i did when i bought it was to charge and even though it said full unplug then charge again this gets a great boost to your battery and you will be surprised at the response. this is my first real android or smart phone as it was a gift for my 50th birthday and i feel that i am very lucky to have such a great and fantasticly responsive fone fotos great 5.1 surround sound great on my sennheiser phones beautiful inbuilt radio basically i am learning something new everyday all i can say is if this fone disappoints you you need a netbook not a phone lol, i also love star gazing the app goggle star map respond awsomly,, if you want a smart phone in the middle to high price range try it gorilla glass puts your mind at ease for scratches to truely i cannot fault it well not yet anyway

  • same problem with my xcover & 2012 d22, for some reason it picks up the samsung as an audio device , not a phone .. neither Nissan dealer or phone dealer could fix it !!

  • I have a samsung galaxy 3 and a nissan navara D22. My phone will connect to the factory bluetooth in the car - but no one can hear me...telstra said the phone is okay - maybe not compatible with the one in the car. Surely, a new car and a new phone would be compatible...must be a way to fix this!!

  • This phone will stop working at end of August 2012 on Telstra Australia services

  • i like very much of this smart phone....... but internal memory low.....

  • can´t find working app for my xcover phone call recording. tried a lots of them. no one works!?

  • Not a bad phone. Reception is sometimes a bit ordinary from a main provider (Telstra), and sometimes the phone switches itself off. i like the size and the battery lasts about 24 hrs with light use. I have not had any major issues with it, perfect phone, Nn, but defintly not a bad one.

  • Nice to read someone has just about exactly same thoughts as I do. Internal memory of 150 MB is just ridiculous when a some software update (like facebook) takes some 80 MB. I had to load the battery every night even though I never keep wifi, bluetooth etc on unless I need them (like an hour or 2 a day or so). But I dont want to be overly complaining. There was a lot of good in that phone, too. Very fairly priced (I paid 180 ), you can use almost all applications (no flash support :( ) and for me it worked without lag or anything, not slippery so it stays in hand, and the fact that it can withstand dropping (to some degree and ofcourse you can get unlucky) and water is a great feature. :)

  • I had to take my phone to the service since it keps shutting down and kept hunging up calls. I was told that they will upgrade the version which will fix these problems. So yes, the version is upgradable :)

  • To this phone, Can i upgrade its version or not? Please kindly tell me!

  • I think its better Xperia Go.

  • I purchased mine 13th July 2012 paid AU$349.00, first handset faulty battery(samsung replaced handset -no question-good service!) but it wont connect to the bluetooth in my 2012 D22 Nissan Navara stereo - told its not compatible..other than that I like it . Nick , Gold Coast , Australia

  • geez guys, was keen to buy 1 as i likd th size colour specs etc etc but reading opinions has me thnking.battry life that bad??there r more negs than positives,is it really that bad for $400?

  • Yep, same thing happened here. Dropped from just over a foot onto tiled kitchen floor during first week. No sign of any damage until next day. Screen had 3 big cracks through it. Really disappointed as I am a builder and reckoned it would suit me. Then Samsung started being difficult. Is it really so hard to listen to what is being said? Really frustrated!

  • Secondary camera is not available so it dis advantage for users.

  • xyxyx, i think, the developer is reducing the thickness of their product (gorilla glass), to minimise the initial cost, thus it may be too thin to withstand ordinary bumps and drops. Just, shame on them because lying to the other peoples..

  • got the phone as a gift from the spouse since she says it suit my criteria for a good phone... less than a week on.. accidentally slipped the phone at waist height on cement ground and guess what the screen is all busted and cracked... my question is what's the whole point of the gorilla glass?

  • when this phone came to my place, and very2 witting this product samsung S5690 galaxy XCOver

  • Here is samsung S5690 galaxy underwater testing Video 1: Video 2:

  • motorola defy xt

  • its a great fone for people like me working in a engineering field...now i have droped in water, fell from a 2 meter height and works just perfectly... those of you who need a fone like this go for it.... remember i said the word "need" and those who want a fone go for the s3...i got both..love them... cheers...

  • It's a phone, a good one...if you need a home cinema buy one :)

  • I bought this phone 4 months ago and Iam not happy with it. Phone is wery slow, internet/youtube stap working, aplication doesent work, battery is bad... I allready have it on service because it freezed and I coulden activate it again. I thihk the Samsung Rugby Smart I847 is better.

  • It's an IP67 certified droid, meaning it can be immersed in one meter of water and last there for half an hour, on top of being dust-proof and shock-resistant. Ruggedness aside, it offers a 3.65" HVGA display with tempered Gorilla Glass for maximum protection and durability. It does well to meet, and exceed, the minimum smartphone requirements with solid connectivity, the latest flavor of Android and reasonably fast processing. The Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover brings a touch of class and authority to a lineup of durable dumb phones for the outdoor enthusiasts. Its arguable whether it can take as much bashing as its less sophisticated siblings, but this rugged smartphone is trying to combine the best of both worlds

  • Omg, What do you guyz expect from this phone?!!?! i have this phone at work, it was supplied by the company i work for, why is that? well because its a "work-phone" , its not like the other phones out on the market, its made to handle rough situations etc the specs are good enough for a work-phone the battery life is good enough for a work-phone etc it does what it says in the specs. --------------->Work-phone

  • I have this phone less than a week and I'm not happy with it. Camera is crappy, to small internal storage, already full, with just few apps instaled. Display is also crappy, can't see nothing at direct sunlight.

  • get off your lazy arse and check out the specs!!!!!

  • This phone is terrible, restarts all the time, reception is poor, low memory and THE WORST BATTERY LIFE EVER!!!!! i want to find who ever made it and throw it at their head... worst phone i have ever had!

  • Ihave a question about this phone.exe a nokia c7 can read online movies hd format(vplay ro) i whant to know if this phone cand do the same plz notice me via yahoo e-mail at DarkDevil88 plzz. tnx

  • I allready have one Moto broken - It simply felt down on steps :(. It is not as resistant as you could believe.

  • Chocolate mobile.

  • Why cant this phone do voice dial through any bluetooth?

  • all in all a good, rugged phone, but poor battery life. if you talk for an hour, search the web for 15 min and maybe listen to a few songs, the battery will barely last 24 h.

  • The ace has a better camera

  • Ummm, that picture isn't the best way to describe the phone, but when my cousin got it, i was inlove with it!

  • is it aviliable in india......???????

  • is it available in india..????

  • Don´t buy, it´s crap! Well it´s waterproof, but there is nothing inside to protect. Can´t receive text. have no software. too small memory. Crashes all the time. My first smartphone, and I regret it. It´s a "not that smart-phone"

  • its a normal phone .......not soo good not soo bad

  • is it a good phone?? and wich is better ... galaxy Xcover or galaxy Ace???

  • should I buy this phone? for me I just want to have a long time used phone........

  • Top selling phone in our retail store, good price/features and very reliable and versatile.

  • Jealous iPhone user comment - FAIL!!!

  • look like some one took a dump and then the phone fell straight into the dump-hole so he took it out and decided to take a shot of it and advertise it... FAIL!!!

  • actually GPU = Graphics Processing Unit

  • GPU is graphic card

  • is this handset water proof.

  • What's GPU . Who knows?

  • Its a great phone, but it needs tweeking. get a better processor

  • The memory agenda is about only 1000 nr... Very small for our days in professional use !

  • It is sad, only 512MB RAM, but you can only used 320MB. And internal 150MB??? My Xcower is already full with inter. app witch can not put on SD card.

  • 800 Mhz proccessor is a little underpowered for todays standards. Even for the price. There are other rugged adroids out there around the same price range with better specs. My advice, do a little reaserch before purchase.

  • About water testing: Yes, it is. I put mine (less than 1 day old) under running water from faucet for about 15 seconds. Pull it out and works fine. Funny to see water coming out of the three buttons at front, but it works fine.

  • simplyelectronics have it for 190 :D

  • samsung version of motorola defy.

  • and something more...it actualy can make video chating coz has a second video call cam..none of the others 2 u mention has....

  • i think samsung xcover is a fantastic and more solid solution ...and i like it more than xperia active due the usual ericsson battery problems and of course is away more safe from motorola defy + with the killer SAR levels of radiation on maximum..

  • dear All, It is avalible in chennai. Thanks in advance.

  • Most suitable for aggressive people

  • nice phone for people like me to handle the mobile worstly, because it is dust and water resistent

  • in real terms defy+ is a well made rugged phone....and the cpu is 1ghz. with os 2.3gingerbird.....choice is urs..........be a smart buyer

  • when samsung going to launch in india.

  • why is it dirt

  • Defy+ has better cpu, better battery , good driver & controller for battery, much better screen, but sensor buttons. (galaxy xcover - hardware buttons) I prefer defy+ .

  • Which is best moto defy plus. SE active or samsung x cover

  • is it or will it be available in ireland?

  • are this phone has been release in malaysia?

  • this phone is really amazing.. samsung your d BESt.. nokia.. you sucks...

  • yes, you're right.

  • yeah snobZ. i agree with you coz im using SE xperia active now. but the small screen is not a big deal...at least its very handy. you can just put it inside the pocket or any small space you can fit it in and bring it anywhere...i think the small size really fits for the purpose of being dust proof, waterproof and shock proof which is needed if you are always "on the go".

  • hi wreck. yes, i think xperia active is better than xcover. im using xperia active now. its excellent.better internal storage, 1GB, better cam, 5MP, but no secondary cam but still you can do video calls using the main cam. i tried it already.

  • Was this released yet ? Anybody actually used it and can give an opinion? I'm considering buying, and would like to get some real user feedback.

  • yes,it have secondary camera dear.

  • IP Ratings: (Ingress Protection or International Protection) - The Ingress Protection rating system is a classification system showing the degrees of protection from solid objects and liquids. The first number refers to the protection against solid objects, normally dust in relation to testing Pocket PCs. If the first number is 0, there is no protection provided. A number 5 refers to limited protection against dust. The number 6 is for total protection against dust. The second number of the IP rating system refers to protection against liquids. A 􀂳􀀓􀂴 indicates no protection, while a 7 refers to protection against immersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter.( meaning if your phone get submerged beyond 1 meter, that's too bad...) hope it helps.. ...

  • IP67 is enough for phone! If IP68 who want to call or thik to find phone deeper than 1m? :) Its very few proffesional equipment with IP68!

  • i agree. also, i have seen SE Active take a dip with no issues except for the hardware buttons being accidentally pressed by the water. overall the test was convincing enough to see that SE active can swim (i mean take a dip).

  • For the phone (or any other phone) to be waterproof, the it has to be IP68, not IP67. IP68=waterproof; IP67 allows some water to get inside.

  • yup dude ....SE active is way to better, unfortunately, SE active's downside is that its screen is way too small

  • this is very good mob plz try it in once

  • ples release this as soon as posible

  • its an AWESOME fone...luv the fact that it wud not get damaged when it gets in contact with water...planning to get t...can u pls just give the approx price...

  • is this avalible in chennai, if avalible means pls give the address. thanks in advance.

  • whoa...is that sh!t smeared all over the cover?!

  • Secondary camera, is it available on the phone?

  • does it has auto focus

  • oh dear.....poor memory

  • When Samsung going to launch this mobile in India. GSMARENA viewers are waiting for this can GSMARENA want to help on this regards.

  • Well it really depends on the purpose. Would you want a smooth scrolling screens when your phone looks like the muddy device in the picture? xD The price ought to tell more when its released.

  • Xperia active seems a better package than xcover. Got 1ghz and better camera and hd recording Dont you think?

  • Who knows its SAR level for Europe, please, write down...

  • where the phone got released and when ????

  • According to a video on youtube from an expo called 'expert expo' it will cost around ~288Eur (then again that might be just Finland). Personally I think that is a bit too expensive, but then again these specs are not final.

  • wat will b the apprx price of Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover

  • I read that the advice price is going to be 299,-

  • when is the phone gonna be available in the market and fr hw much ?????? smebdy pls rply fr dis ??

  • Is it really that dirty in real life? o.O

  • please ince internal memory 1 or 2 gb And ince camera mp size also

  • pleas incre internal memory to 1or 2 gb

  • where it is avila it is release on market

  • Do someone knows wich Bluetooth Class it belongs ? (Class 1=100m , Class 2= 10m) Thanks

  • As it says there: 800 MHz Marvell MG2 processor .

  • it is arm7

  • How much is the price? Is the all terrain phone?

  • Does it have flash support?

  • The idea of a water resistant phone is wonderful but for galaxy series the hardware needs to be improved viz. At least 1Gb internal memory and 1Ghz processor. Otherwise applications will slow down the phone.

  • everything is good but i m confuse with its cpu weather it is arm7 or 6...

  • good phone but camera is not good. It has 3.2 mp camera but where are other feature except geo tagging. Water resistant is plus point price should not be more than 280 dollar.

  • hey guys for any stuff of android plz visit my blog here in this blog you will get all the android applications, games and lots of stuff for free...

  • Yes, up to 1 meter under water.

  • Just a lower spec Motorola Defy+

  • hai,i like to know (i) about its battary backup. (2) speed (3)whether front camera (4) whether upgradable to gingerbread version of android

  • Crappy spec and ugly? Wow, thought they were trying to compete with Motorola's DEFY and DEFY+, but this is even weaker than the original DEFY.

  • too bad.. its only have 150Mb internal memory. not quite enough too install many app. But still, if this phone really have ip67.. i wonder if this phone is shock resistance.

  • too bad.. its only have 150Mb internal memory. not quite enough too install many app. But still, if this phone really have ip67.. i wonder if this phone is shock resistance.

  • I hope it were "Galaxy S II Xcover"

  • how can you be so sure mister know it all

  • hi prince ,sure it is water resistant.

  • no its not water resistance

  • Marvell mg2 Cpu? is it any good?

  • can leave for 5 minute under water

  • great look boss,,,,,apart frm dat d features r great as well

  • I think that sony ericsson xperia active is better because it is mor rugged than the two phones or I think that we should wait for defy+

  • I think Defy is better than this.

  • This and other IP67-certified devices from s-e, moto and samsung demontrate that it is possible to make mainstream-gadgets which are water and dustproof. IP67 should be considered a minimum for ANY mobile device. It's a pity that mobile vendors still produce high-end devices unfit for the real world.

  • it's nice but price

  • Internal memory 150MB? i prefer defy with 2GB... :)

  • Looks good. Currently use a Motorola Defy, and it's bugging and lagging all the time, and Motorola doesn't seem to have any plans on fixing the bugs. Hope Samsung take care of their customers better, then I'll definetly switch...

  • pls add a review of this phone on youtube

  • its fantastic

  • checkout Motorola Defy. Its better than this.

  • its amazing & looks prety.

  • any expected price guess ? ???????

  • Abe Gadhe !!! its Just an Ad. Choo !! its not Any Photoshop Trick this Phone is Dust & Water Resistent Samjhe

  • rugged droid )) ? thats a photoshop work or its a real design ?

  • plz plz plz plz price show me as a nice phone

  • its good mobile in market with water proof up 30min realy good

  • I m a samsung user i am going to buy ths phn definately

  • it is nice buddy plz pries

  • all of them are water resistant just like xperia active.. but they are not waterproof..

  • its not really low.. its the standard resolution for the most of the apps.. qvga is the one that is low, but even on that resolution you can still play 3d and hd games..

  • Is this totally waterproof like Motorola defy & defy + ?

  • Wow what a low-res display. This ought to be cheap, very-very-very cheap. Especially considering the ease of overclocking the original Motorola DEFY (Universal androot + Milestone overclock and you're there). DEFY also has a much higher res on display, and better looks. Plus, well, the DEFY+ which comes with stock 1GHZ. Samsung cheaped out on the camera as well. This really should be a very, very, very cheap phone.

  • even on the specs of defy and defy+ we won't see a word 'shockproof' on their specs..(gsmarena usually mention it on the offcial review) but obviously this phone is also shockproof.. we usually drop our phone on floor due to accident but we rarely drop our phone in water.. i think its standard that before a phone can be water and dust resistant, it should be shockproof also.. link to prove its also shockproof:

  • Oh my. Samsung wants to compete with Motorola? Tsk tsk. Only 800mhz? Defy currently has 800mhz. Defy+ will give out 1ghz. Plus, I wasn't able to read "shock" proof on the description.

  • In the retail package the phone comes as in the picture? :)))))

  • but what about price it will differ

  • unimpressive specs...better go get defy+ which is much more compact and feature rich having the screen size....

  • it seems like this phone is too big for its small 3.65 inches screen, galaxy s is smaller and yet has a 4-inch bigger screen.. but i still like it.. :)

  • Buddy don't go for it...personally suggesting bcoz defy or defy+ is waiting for u in the store....

  • me too waiting for this keenly

  • based on the image above, this phone is water and dustproof right ? ;) awesome !

  • I seem to like this phone a lot. It has looks of LG phones. And LG is simply not trustworthy but Samsung for sure is... Awaiting its release in Pakistan...

  • i think this phone is vERRY NICE

  • Samsung Galaxy Xcover Mobile Price in Pakistani Rupees PKR is 21000 Rs. | Rate in USD $247

  • Samsung Galaxy Xcover Mobile Price in Pakistani Rupees PKR is 21000 Rs. | Rate in USD $247

  • it is good

  • symbian used to be good, but as time passes by its getting outdated..in the next 3-5 years, nokia will no longer support symbian, but only windows phone.. android is getting popular day by day..all cellphone companies have their android phone, only nokia doesn't have(also apple and rim, but they have their own os better than symbian) android has over 200,000 apps..if you're an app-lover, buy an android phone of atleast hvga resolution coz thats the standard resolution.. android is the future..also there are available rugged android such as this phone and i think symbian doesn't have..

  • Comparison of both android and symbian operating systems : 1). OPERATING SOFTWARE or FIRMWARE >so if you got an symbian phone suppose an. s60v3 and now you want an s60v5 then all you can do is trash your old phone and buy a new s60v5 by spending cash (like I did) >but if you have an android phone with suppose an 1.6 android version running and you want to upgrade to 2.1 android version then all you have to do is do a software upgrade through your phone or by using a computer and as soon as the upgrade is finished you have your 1.6 replaced by 2.1 giving you new added features and some new user interface, no need of wasting your money on buying new cell phones 2). FLASHING Your phone with new FIRMWARE >If you are a SYMBIAN user and hate the looks of your phones menu style then you have 2 options to change those looks a install a new theam for your phone or b flash your. phone with new firmware or rom by using a computer now everybody knows this is a risky procedure and if anything goes wrong your phone will be dead >but if you r an ANDROID user and want to do the same then you have 3 options a) either install new theme b) either install new menu launcher c) flash your phone with new custom firmware you will need to download a new firmware or rom from internet. and flash it using your phone only by just using the RECOVERY MENU of your phone and if anything goes wrong and your phone is dead then you can actually get back your phone in working condition from the recovery menu itself ts as simple as clicking the button. and everything in your phone will be like before nothing ever happened and all this can be dont from your phone itself no need of looking at the computer. 3). CHANGING PHONE FEATURES >if u use a. SYMBIAN phone and want to change the way how your menu looks. the way how your gallery looks and how your videos. and music liabrary looks and how your notes and documents and messages, mms, and phone book looks the way your browser and file manager looks. then you can download and install new applications available out there and use them for the purpose but that will take all your precious phone memory and also will not act. as your. default. application. if you dont want this to happen then you. can find a custom firmware for your phone that satisfy all your needs and flash it but thats risky as we saw before >but in an android. you can acctually do little tweaks and treaks. by removing your default file browser and downloading. and installing new file browser. thats it no risky stuff no memorry eaten by an extra useless application tht you dont need. and the new downloaded application act as your default. application 4). PROCESSOR and its SPEED Now processor is very important to run high end applications, >In a symbian phone you cannot see what speed your processor runs on >In an android there are some applications. that not only gives you look of your processor speed. but also can help you control it and help you save your battery by going to minimum speed or help you run high end applications on your. phone smoothly by going to maximum speed. not only that you can overclock. your processor like my phone processor is 512mhz. and its his max speed but i overclocked it to 712mhz. now I have smoother phone d)- money spent on phone take a NOKIA 5800xm phone and now take a. NOKIA N8 check out the difference u got bigger screen, bigger processor, good camera thats it rest is same like same menu view, same file browser and messaging and call log browser same application can be downloaded and just higher graphics in THE N8 and same. wifi and 3g and gps but i think i can acctually do with NOKIA 5800 rather then buying expensive n8. (5) MODIFICATIONS >symbian phones does not allow users to do modifications with their phones but why if you bought the phone its yours, its not nokias phone anymore >android people say its your phone now so go ahead and do anything you want.

  • Will get one!!

  • hi friends i m little bit confused i have nokia c6 but i want new phone can u suggest which one is better between android and simbiyan and why plzzz

  • any idea how much is this phone?

  • awesome device..luv to buy it

  • wats it price?

  • Internal: only (150)MB storage,WHAT??. :(

  • yeah.. we all know that.. but there's still a lot that would consider this coz it has a front camera, slimmer and hopefully cheaper.. also motoblur is very bad..

  • What about gpu and chipset?

  • Yeh coz it has 512mb ram...

  • unfortunately ,there's no point to this anymore now that defy+ with all the features defu lacked is out ...its betyer in all ways than this..especially its small size and big battery

  • faster than Galaxy Ace ?

  • no.. but you need to soak your phone in mud before you can get out on samsung store.. lol

  • Coz that'll be too much of an expensive phone already and there'll be no more or much room for the next improved one. They always need to invent succeeding better units, can't run out of new better ones to market next time.

  • does the mud come with the phone when you buy it?

  • this Samsung is a joke, Cassio has a much better and more serious phone, and Sonim XP 3.20 Quest Pro, which I have the real deal, before the Snima I had the iPhone 3GS and I was just shaking all the time that something might happen to him, my poor phone, but his display of broke after kust 40 sm. drop, I have Sonim 3 months, this phone is for a real man, I have had many phones,(I work in "!" operator but this is the best I have come acros so far.

  • this is something best what I seen ever before.

  • Wow with video call camera,i will buy it..

  • according to the picture this phone is probably for rough use

  • wow.. gsmarena just updated the specs.. its almost complete.. come out xcover.. i want you..

  • This will probably be a Sporty phone... water proof, shock proof,.... an all that the photo tells it

  • I hope it will be as good as its figures btw we love these phones, make more of them

  • what is the price of Samsung

  • new look by samsung .......... ooppppsssss !!! finallyyyy the changes begin

  • Why do they drop the camera size and a few other specs. Like they always fall just short of perfection every time.

  • What is this? looks like the phone was drop somewhere poop.. with water... eaauuu!

  • Now the SAMSUNG is turn on the lookkkkkkkkkk..... So cool and Hot ,

  • Of course, this phone is good, but this isn't the second waterproof Droid in the market, this is third. The second is Xperia Active.

  • finally the second waterproof smartphone in the world, I hope the battery is better than Motorola Defy ;)

  • Does it come with dirt stickers? ;-)

  • Well it must have stroong battery and loong standby time like other Xcover series. waiting for it.

  • the Camera is auto-focus enabled. please correct that information

  • dimension and weight are : 121.5 x 65.9 x 11.95 mm, 135g

  • s its beautyfull but one thing is there is no front facing cam for video chat or call im also waiting for this handset

  • Does the camera has auto-focus function?

  • REally even I'm waiting for this. Please samsung release it soon

  • oh yeh... sexyy phone

  • me too

  • poor camera quality

  • My Dream phone is coming :)

  • Dont know

  • a phone alternative to motorola defy but i personally think defy has better configuration than this. camera for eg.

  • motorola has defy, sony ericsson has xperia active and samsung has galaxy xcover..i wish lg and htc will produce their own rugged android phone.. also why does they keep on making rugged but midrange android phone? don't they realize that the more expensive phones esp. dual cores also deserves it? nobody wants to experience like just because of one accident, your dream high end phone is dead.. :D

  • I believe this is outdoor type Galaxy Ace... almost the same hardware...

  • can a full touch android mobile be this much off-roader? No chance .......

  • Agree! I think my brother needs something like this, he's so clumsy:)

  • There are people who need something like ..this phone. It depends on lifestyle, simple as that. If you don't need something like this then you just don't belong to the targeted market. At least Samsung lovers now have the option to have a unit that is dust-water-proof and with gingerbread android. Now that's cool...;)

  • finally the best of the bests coming... oh man it's all you can do sami.... i think samsung found it from a WC in mexico...

  • how much is it??

  • Some sites mentioned that it has 800MHz cpu and 512mb ram and some 1GHz cpu and 512 mb ram...

  • best ever android device :-) . for man :-) i will buy it :-)

  • 3.2 mp camera??? in a time when everyone is moving to minimum 5 mp?? is this a new phone or a cheap one?

  • ooooooo....all over i m waiting for this mobile.....plzzzz xcover come....

  • I'll buy it if it will have good screen!

  • I think this phone was invented for the people like us.... (navy)

  • How about people in the military? Or rock climbers? Fisherman? BMX riders? Just because a phone doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean features are useless.

  • Competition for the Motorola Defy :D .. I'd buy one

  • we can't still see its whole beauty and even the specs are not yet complete and final.. im just hoping that its resolution is higher than the rumored hvga.. and 512mb ram is a must..

  • looks like somone just sh@#$% it out or just pucked on it....

  • Unless the price is really low, the screen resolution is the deal breaker. Probably will have to go with Defy.

  • amazing feature, I would like hav one as soon as possible :)

  • sidmeier, jacob is right. and i think that you are a dumb ass that didnt know what he types in this site

  • Dirt on phone is its capability against water, dust&mud till some extent

  • Gorilla Glass display in a mid-budget phone is something new to watch for...

  • xperia active has better specs

  • a hideous design but i kinda like it! LOL!!!!

  • look is very good

  • good look & good feacher but no secodary cam

  • good

  • Good That you invent for the process engineers. We need such a fone.If ever like the NEC Medias N-06C hazardous invironment. Good Job Samsung!

  • this feature is useful to them who want a smartphone to run in hostile conditions even in which galaxy s 2 or iphone 4 may breakdown

  • Hey water and dirt resistant phones are not for users to splash them into water or dirt. The company makes it for safety and it is for those people who work on those sort of environment. And if u are so aware that u wont drop them in to water or dirt then y dont u prefer normal phones. The models Samsung make may be looking bad but for few people looks are not they care upon its what's inside the phone that matter.. Cheers mate hope u get a good looking chick phone soon :-)

  • Tough and strong.. it isnt features that i looking for

  • don't you know the meaning of ACCIDENT? it happens to everyone.. its not high-end device.. i just wish all future android phones are rugged..

  • also noun as copysung defy in us market!

  • This is what I need... I hate the sand in may phone when in the beach, or dust when in somewhere dusty. I got a phone screwed up when I got into whater while drunk, I forgot I had in my pocket. That was like 3 years ago, I almost did the same with my current phone a few weeks ago. This looks like a very good option for stupid people like me. :D

  • i need more information ?¿

  • Such an Ugly phone . . Samsung never wins on inventing phone styles . . waste of money . . why would i splash my phone with water and fill it with dust . . feature is so nonsense!

  • I think i would like to purchase 1 of this..XD

  • this so good phone +!! i like that

  • xperia active is better ...

  • Defy might be better on paper, however price is deciding factor. Xcover will probably be cheaper ;)

  • is tis phne water resistant???

  • it is nice phone maind it

  • Specification is not bad ... Waiting for the price to display ... Also secondary camera is not mentioned. Anyways, its price shud not more than 10k.

  • me too i need this kind of phone so that if im angry to anyone i cant throw this to them hahaha....indeed a nice phone for people that are hardcore and clumsy....

  • you've read my mind, sammy... GREAT job!

  • i have a defy..this one looks sexier.

  • I liked the image, and this phone is maded for sport

  • more specs in german: defy is better^^

  • I just hope that this model comes with a 2000-2500 mAh battery - f*ck skinny profile. For an outback-phone its more important with a above average batterylife.

  • I need a phone like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Touchwiz UI and phone is rugged But have wait for processor spec. 1GHz is default

  • Do we gwt that mud with the phone too? Must be hard work to put mud in the package XD

  • I am a Samsung fan, but I have to admit that the Defy is better. By the way for the first waterproof and shock resistant phone from them, this one is quite good! :) Good work Samsung!!

  • i think i've found my phone !!! perfect options n i hope perfect price too :\ i think i might buy the BB pearl if this phone wasn't released in October or i'll buy the chacha

  • It's a good effort if there is a right amount of ingredients and priced compititevely....around 250$

  • niceee one

  • it must be cheaper than xperia activ and motorola defy and defy+

  • I think it has a front camera. If you look closely you will see a hole on the top right of the image. that place is mostly used for the front cam.

  • If it has a good battery and doesn't weight too much this one is for me.

  • Why does Samsung make such a mobile....?

  • ,,,is this real???????

  • The smartest smart phone in the universe!

  • I'll be the first buyer!

  • nice phone
