  • Ive had the k700i for 15 yrs. Didnt use it past 11 yrs but pulled it out of the memory desk draw,charged battery and put in a spare sim with fingers crossed i started it. It works as good as the day i bought it. Congrats sony ericsson this is a legend

  • very nice phone, durable. i've been using this for over 5 yrs now.the only problem encountered is the joystick, seems wobbly after 4yrs (used frequently on games. i'm planning on buying a touchscreen with qwerty phone (just to be in..u know..ANY SUGGESTIONS) but i don't plan to give this up yet. i love this SE phone.

  • the main problem is the joy stick and apart from that there is no any problem.All other features of the phone is grate.

  • I am using this phone for 5 years. Even it has VGA camera and low memory it is one of the best phone forever. Only repair done was the replacement of the joystick. Every futures are still working properly. Have fallen to deep water two times, but nothing was happened (I switched of it both occasions and completely dried out). When it is being charged it gets stacked and Signal strength of the phone has been reduced since last few months. But still can be used. :-)

  • let's say u are ryt, but your bases s on the marked only. How would u explain the pixels? As what i've study pixels s the only bases of knowing what capability the camera has. In addition with this, try to compare with other VGA phone it's a big difference.

  • Dude, look at the back of the phone... What it says? VGA. Would they lie to you on this? And you said well "EXTENDABLE into 1280x960". It really is a software interpolation, you can very well take a 0.3 MP=640x480 photo and resize it on your PC to 1280x960...

  • just to clarify, it's not just VGA camera in fact it has 1.3MP. as u can see the camera setting for the picture size it is extendable into 1280 x 960 pixels. 1280 x 960 pixels is 1.3MP. It's good enough 4 capturing high and qualiy pictures.

  • Oh, come on... Competing with digital cameras? Not even close... Get real. 0.3 MP vs (minimum) 5MP is no match. You also notice that pictures are clear in the center and visibly blurred around the center. Nevertheless, the pictures are ok for a mobile phone year 2006. It had the best soft for THAT year and I still miss the feature that you could call the person who sent you the message right from the message itself no need to access a menu to do that...

  • b4 u can use sending of pic msgs or mms, 1st u must configure ur GPRS/MMS settings. U can get this settings by ur mobile network.

  • When you encountered joystick malfunction of this phone, all you have to do is you go to the qualified technician and tell them to change the joystick with a new one. Don't open the phone with your own.

  • Very nice phone, the phone is simple yet but engage in high performances. I use this phone until now. I've encountered 1 problem regarding the joystick but when i change it, it now go back to normal.   • I had this phone for 4 years. It is extremely durable. Once i have dropped it, and the phone rolled about 25 meters on a concrete football court. It happened nothing without some few scratches. The phone was awesome!!! Now i have a c905, but this phone is fragile.

I remember I dropped it from our 30 step stairs, glass of milk etc. Though the main problem will be of course the joystick. 4 years (almost 5!) Is a good experience for me. I'm gonna switch phones sometime in February but I will still make it my 2nd phone. I just can't let this go of this classic!

  • I've been using the phone for 4.5 years (since June 2005) and it's still going good. However the joystick doesn't work so well anymore, so it's hard to navigate through menus and play games with it. I will soon buy Sony Ericsson C510, because I need memory card slot, better camera, 3G, bigger screen.

  • maybe the golden metal strips inside the ph0nes unit is detached. if you have t6 screwdriver you can easily open and fix it. i have that phone too, and i am the 0nly one who fix my own cp.

  • Hi Everybody, I am using this phone since july 2005 till now(august 2009). i didnt had any problem till now, except the joy stick. This phone served me a lot. Mobile has fallen nearly 15 times, i met with an accident and my mobile Panel also got damaged but still it works fine. this is one of the finest mobile model which i have used. Till date i am using this mobile. This has 40MB internal memory which is enough to store limited song and ringtones. The cost was also very affordable when i got this phone(Other Brands costed more high with all the specification which this phone had while i puchase). Nice and a Handy one. when i went to buy this phone 2 years back, i couldnt able to find it in the market and felt a lot for the model. Really nice piece from Sony...

  • Great phone! Bought it brand new in 2005,lost it in 2006:( Bought another one second hand last year.In 2 months it broke down. Bought another one a few months ago,in a good shape,almost for free.Got a new battery and it works great :) I use it as a second phone,I have a K810i.Had a K800i a year ago,dropped it into a glass of cola :) All of them were great value phones when they came on the market.Newer SE are nasty,buggy menus,sensor buttons...yuck!

  • You have to buy the usb cable separately. Here in the PH it doesn't come with the package (i am not ure with other countries). Just go to a mobile shop or a SE center and ask for a USB cable that fits in the k700.

  • I still have this phone (since 2005, but rarely uses it now since I have K850i and Samsung Omnia i900). The only thing that's not working on this phone is the joystick. I have had the soldering inside fixed but to no avail. I don't usually ditch phones, and I think I can't even sell this model anymore so I will keep it and just make sure to take care of the batteries.

  • I bought a ---W810--- as a "necessary upgrade" to my K700, but the first thing I noticed it can't display the clock in standby like k700/k750. I hate this because you can't tell if you recieved a phone call or not unless you press a button... Also, it has a similar processor speed as K700, so 2MP pictures are rendered pretty slow (3 seconds/image) and the Tracks mode in the player is very slow. A third negative thing about W810 is that when you view a SMS, to call the sender, you must press More> Call X, unlike in K700 where you naturally press down to underline the contact and call (I liked it that way). In sent sms, if you want to call the reciever, More>Details, down, Call. Unfortunately, no Java multitasking; you can't start the camera if a Java app is running. On the good side we have an autofocus camera which produces very good results outdoors. Also, you can put a 4GB card (512MB card included in the package) and you can send/move/copy more files at once (very useful). Opera Mini works smoother than in K700. BTW, I didn't buy it for the Walkman branding, but for the SE soft and camera (and no joystick, of course :P) If you can go over the negative stuff (my first paragraph) and buy it you won't regret.

  • Have it from 2004, summer. It has dropped, say, 150 times. Works. Never changed battery. In the past I forgot to charge it for days. Now, it is drained, but OK. Only problems : a) joystick, but sometimes it is due to impatient, no calm, movements b) software, a more serious one, cause sometimes it "mistakes" calls and contacts. Maybe it needs only to upgrade software. Never examined an other option all this time. Only now I'm thinking changing it, looks a little ruined, but I find no substitute. I don't like Nokias, I don't pay money to Steve Jobs, I don't exactly trust Samsung/Motorolas etc. Thinking of the T700, but comparing it with good-old K700 is roughly equal, except the 1000 contacts and the soundspeaker. Thinking of the expected T715, but seems it is intended more for women, with its pink (bliahhh) colours. I would wellcome an opinion from a K700 long time user who successfully switced recently to another phone.

  • Well, i had the same problem with my K700i. Joystick just didn't work, which limited the use of most of the features in this excellent phone. This mostly results from the large amounts of dust that get inside. Nonetheless, this issue may be fixed, either disassembling your cell phone and cleaning it (quite dangerous for the cell phone), or using 2 of the following: compressed air cans or an electronic antistatic spray (you may find them in electronics or computer stores).

  • Have you tried changing the charger instead? Most of the times we dispose of cell batteries wrongly. Ask for a friends SE charger and try it. Remember that chargers are also made out of electric systems that eventually might fail.

If you have a cable then install the usb drivers, if you use a bluetooth adapter then install the software and drivers that came with it.   • Now I should guess what are the conditions in which your battery lasts 2 hours because you didn't mention them. There are 3 possibilities I know of: 1) You navigate on the Internet using your phone (either in the browser, either in Opera Mini, either using a chat application such as mig33). In this case, I'm afraid that's almost normal (the battery isn't natevely powerful enough...) My phone lasts 2.5 hours when I'm on the Internet. 2) The battery has ended its life span and needs to be replaced. (You know nothing lasts forever and if you used it for at least 10 months (1-2 charges a day) you should replace it) 3) If you already had your battery replaced and it lasts 2 days then try to update your phone's firmware (software).   • Important question: Does "Sound recorder" record anything (Menu->Entertainment-> Sound recorder) ? If you can record and hear what you recorded, it's a software issue.   • although this phone is discontinued i like to Post my opinion . . i used this phone for nearly a year. . the joystick broke up and there was problem with the battery status indicator . . display clarity was stunning (i think today's nokia phone's cannot produce such a high clarity display except for the high end phone's )but sadly do's not have brightness control option. i never thought vga camera could produce sharp picture's but this phone did! the biggest disadvantage was the built 41mb memory

From active standby screen press right,*,left,left,*,left,* and the hidden menu appears. If it doesn't appear, try again (because the joystick is imprecise and left is not left...) 2. @ sanedulpex "i can no longer receive SMS, what's wrong with my SE K700?" A: The phone can store max 80 SMS. If that limmit is reached, delete some or save them to your SIM which can store 40 SMS. *Note: 1 bigger message can be equivalent to more than 1 SMS 3. @ raffy "does k700i have a usb port and wer do i find it?" A: No usb on K700. There are cabeles which connect the phone to the a USB on the PC, but the transfer rates are ~5KB/s. Try bluetooth adapter for PC instead->30-40KB/s and you can also control PC with phone. 4. @ Geoffrey "Does this phone can customize message alert?" It only has 6 predefined tones to chose from. A pitty you can't put a mp3 as message tone like in K750 5. @ hlyh "is aac format compatible for k700i?tq!" No. Supported files: mp3,mp4,3gp,wav(max 16 kHz),mid,amr,jpg,gif,png and jar (Java). Other files types are stored in the "Other" folder 6. @ Anonymous "does all k700,s give problems with their joysticks?" A: Sony Ericsson K700,K500,K300 joysticks aren't very reliable. Unlike the rest of the keys which have their metalic contacts protected with a plastic layer, the joystick doesn't because it's not possible by its design. Mabie not all K700 joysticks fail.   • I have been using this phone for over 4 yrs now since it was first launched (Price at P17500 year 2004) and I still prefer using this over other phones. It has everything you want and need, plus the LCD display is way much better with the other models on the same level. No problem if you wanna browse through the Web too. The size, the specs it offers, and the durability (how many times I accidentally dropped it on the floor?!). Ohers models have come and go with the advent of cellphone fad, but my Sony Ericsson K500i is timeless!

  • If you want to surf the net on you PC using the phone as a bluetooth modem you have take 5 steps: 1) buy a bluetooth adapter and install its software 2) install from the CD in the package the bluetooth modem drivers 3) pair the PC with the phone 4) contact your carier to help you "Set up a small or small office network" on your PC and to create the correct settings on your phone for the internet connection (because it differs a bit from the usual wap connection) The result should be seen on your PC in "Network connections" as Local Area Connection Enabeled Bluetooth PAN Network Adapter Good luck!

  • So as I said I have this phone since feb 2006 and I got almost everything out of it. Users know it's not possible to minimise a java application, but I DID IT! and after minimising I started the camera and filmed until the screen has blocked showing a friky picture :) After restarting the phone the recording had 2 frames per second :P What I did is impossible on K750. I'm good :D Another cool fact. If you know, SE phones that have volume buttons on the side can control the volume of the minimised player anywhere in the menu or even in a java application. K700 can't. Well, I DID THAT 2! And the 3rd thing i'd add - less extraordinaire - is that you are able to see .txt files with the K700. If you want more info on these 3 facts, I'll go into details. And I'll finish by telling you the hidden menu of the SE (any SE): from the standby screen press right, *, left, left, *, left, *. This is not a joke, if it doesn't work, the joystick is faulty so try again. So I demonstrated that programmers of the SE K700 software could have done more...

  • The coolest bluetooth thing is that with K700 you can access the memory of other bluetooth phones if paired with no additional software installed. Starting with when K750 appeared this feature was no longer available :(

Check all these folders and if there are too many delete some, or I recommend writing MMS to store in Drafts if you want to annotate something (because MMS uses the phones memory - enough for MMS =) ) I believe this phone cannot have viruses because it hasn't got an operating system.

The only problem I had during these 3 years, that sometimes while connecting to the charger, or during charging, the screen freeze up and do not react to pushing of the buttons. So you need to take out the battery, put it back and turn it on again:)

  • This is the fon that i'm currently using now after Motorola C330, Sony Ericsson J210 & K300. This is a great fon. Just one thing to complain. I wish K700 engineer included memory card support at least up to 512MB. If so, definitely this fon would stay in the market s.ting like K750. But anyway the built-in memory is generous compared to the latest S-Eric models like W660,K530,W850 & so on. Good job Sony Ericsson!

  • well for me i am very very happy with it... i love the cameras it can extend up to 1200x900 and it has different effects too. i am planning to change it though because i love to have a sony ericson that has a higher memory or an sd card and i dont quite like the battery life kinda short than the others.

  • I have use this phone from early 2005 until now 2008.. From my experience with this phone it is the best phone that i ever use so far.. It had all the essential that i needed like mp3,camera, bluetooth and everything else.. Had dropped it a few times but still it keep on working until now.. The main problem of this phone to me is the joystick.. After sometime it will not be working well but i had fix it and now it is working like new..   • Well, what shall I say. It served me for about 2 2/1 years an it was perfect. Trust me. It's magnefersent for it's price. Now it's not in the market. SAD FOR THOSE WHO DIDNT HAVE IT!!!! The only problems I would tell about this phone is the memory of it. What can you do with 41 MB. I had to decrese the bit rate of my songs to 18kbps yet it gives me only the chance to store about 25 MP3s. Also the joy-stick gives trouble. It had felt from my hands more than 10 times, some times about 10 feet higher but yet it works!!! It's a boy phone meant for boys. It can bare up the things that the boys do to phones. We some times catch pass it in our classes. Yet it's doing great. They always choose my phone for the cathc passing because it never dies; It's simply great. What a phone. THANK GOD THAT I FOUND A MOBILE PHONE LIKE THIS. It suits me perfect. Not only to me, for all the GUYS!!!!! %% Luv ya baby %%

  • @Garry I had my joystick replaced in warranty 1 year ago, but now it malfunctions. I'm from Romania. Where did you found the SE showroom? And by the way, k700, k750, etc have this 'restart problem'. For example mine always restarted when playng a particular 600 Kb 3D game - it simply couldn't handle it (not enough processing power and java memory)

  • The phone is good, it has most functions one seeks in phone, since the past 2 years I have used it, I have replaced the battery ones, I hate the message alert tone, the memory is not enough for me since it has no card slot. The picture quality is poor when you transfer it to a PC or a laptop, but it looks good in the phone. The K750 and K850 have better picture quality when transfered to a PC or a laptop as well as bigger memory, USB and card slot. From Nigeria

  • K700 is not comfortable for me, I have the same til now since Dec-2005, facing problems in joy stick(centre button),voice cut frequently,call missing,not getting the network,and etc. Right now it is out of order.I asked the respective service centre,and they are telling that, it can not be rectified and have to open the ic, it may be fully colapse and we are not responsible for the rectification,it may be allright after service or it may be worse then now. if you are giving the undertaking and etc will take the set for servicing.I really shocked in this. please suggest what to do.   • OK...First a phone have to be a phone... calling people and answering calls... and hearing the other person loud enough! Biggest problem I have: After 1 year of having this phone it happens to offten that when somebody calls me the phone shuts itself even with plenty of battery. Often I was in certain crowded places and rarely I could understood what the other person said; Plus, the rechgarge cable.. is kinda tricky. Other then that, nice toy, has plenty of features. But like I said, a phone first have to be a phone not a toy.

However: Key response time could still be faster, though it's not really annoying (as with some other phones, where you wait for 1 full second before the phone responds to a key press) Outside material now looks very worn. Like all my phones before it, I carried it in my Jeans pocket (and all of them showed the same attrition). BIG ISSUE: the joystick broke last week. It has been getting worse and worse over the past monthes, but now it's really unusuable. SonyEricsson is aware of this problem. ONLY BUY THIS PHONE, IF YOUR VENDOR GIVES YOU A NICE GUARANTEE, say, 3 years. Also, while the phone has a large memory, this memory apparently is not used for calendar entries. The number of calendar entries is limited to somewhere less than 999! This is really stupid, in my opinion... why not use the huge shared memory?? Which would probably be enough for a million entries... By now, this phone makes only sense if you get it for less than 10euro.

  • Great phone and have been using it for the last 2 years. Only issues are the centre joystick button is 'sometimes' unresponsive and the battery life is disappointing after only 2 years? My next phone will not have centre joystick button.

  • I have this phone for about two years. It's getting a bit old, I'm looking forward to getting a Nokia 6120 Classic. This phone is really nice, I like the way it looks, performs and everything. I even broke it's display once, but got it fixed :D. After two years of usage, it starts showing sings of getting old. The keyboard refuses to work sometimes, and sometimes it loses signal, for indefinite amount of time (1-2-3 hours) and I can't receive any calls / messages in this period. That sucks. The speaker is pretty good, the headphones suck at listening to MP3s, but radio is loud and clear. Also, there is very little space for MP3s :(. Overall, a nice phone I am proud of :).

  • Hi! I have this phone since september 2005 and all I can say, that it was a great decision to buy it. High quality display, classic shape, high quality finish and details (e.g. brushed aluminium on the back cover, silver rim around speaker, display and lens) and many features (Radio, Music player etc.). It has only one disadvantage for me...lack of Memory Stick is inexcusable (in other hand, its 41MB internal memory is still more than enough for an ordinary user)and that is the reason why now I'm going to buy its successor K750. But I still recommend this phone for everyone who is looking for high quality phone for a reasonable price and who don't need so much memory to keep mp3 files or other files. -- Best regards ToHrn

  • I've been using the SE K700i since 2004 and its been the best phone i've used and i wont ever sell it. Am planning to buy the SE P1 as soon as its available here in Mauritius. The K700i is a hardcore phone ( I dropped it lots and lots and lots of times but its still perfect, except fot the casing)...so if u're going to buy a new SE K700i, it's better u buy it along with all its equipment...data cable or bluetooth stuff, a spare original casing, a spare of the original ear sets (which is really good), a spare battery and finally, just in case, a spare charger...And if u going to buy all these stuff in 1 go, u will never regret it, trust me...SE FAN 4EVER

  • kimi, I think it's safe to say you don't have to worry about the messages. to give you a number, i'd say it could store around 150 sms on phone +40 sms on sim; storage for mms i guess that it's limited to the phone's free memory (i had never recieved more than 80 mms lifetime :-) )

  • A medium quality phone. 6 for design, 7 for features and performance. 42 Mb memory, but no memory card. Is good comapring to Sony Ericsson K510 wich has 12 Mb and no memory card. VGA camera with 2/4 zoom and MP3 are quite good. The design is not so attractive comparing to Siemens S65 for example. The phone doesn't have an USB cable in the original box, but it has Infrared and Bleutooth connection and , lucky me, a Bluettoh device... I'm using this phone for 18 months and is working good - the baterry stands for almost 4 days, but the joystick has some manevrability problems. Like any other joystick...

  • am using sonyericsson K700i for the last 6 months. only recently it has started doing funny. i charge and it will show its full. but then suddenly the battery shows empty again and goes off, this is after ringing. Ive tried with a new battery but its the same. Otherwise the camera, sound are excellent.

  • for rocky: go from the main menu to settings -> locks -> phone lock -> protection -> on. when the "enter code" screen appears just type 0000 which is the default code. after that you can change this code. the effect of this is that after every time you close your phone, when you light it back on, a "enter code" screen appears and if somebody doesn't know the code, he can't use the phone, even if another SIM is inserted.

  • hello evry1, i've been using SE K700i for 1 and a half years n i wanna say it's a gr8 phone.i have found many of da ppl complaining abt its joy stick dat it just doesn't work after a couple of months.it may be true to some extent but if ur not fond of playing games a lot in ur fone den i don thk it will b damaged.so its up 2 u how u use ur phone.it's a gr8 choice if u want to have music in ur phone and don wan2 spend a lot.dis phone's ear phone sound quality is absolutely brilliant.yes it is.and if ur thinking abt rynning some java softwares in ur phone like Mig33 or opera mini then it's just awesome.these softwares run in this phone thousand times faster than ne other,including nokia's N series ,siemens among others.nd da radio quality is very good too.so i thk if u can handle it carefully den it is bound to perform well.i have a lot of softwares nd games for dis fone.plz contact me([email protected]) if ur in need of.best of luck

  • Good phone, Great memory and good camera - music player is good too. Only downside is that the joystick sometimes plays up and the battery is a bit short, you have to charge it every night.

  • Just recently some weird things have started happening to my Sony Ericsson K700i. It's really annoying (and load-consuming, at that!)--it keeps on sending blank SMS to my dad, and then later on to my cousin. I can't say it's a defect with my SIM card, either, because I've already used two cards but regardless of what SIM you put in it the phone itself still continues to send blank messages. Although I once connected it to our laptop (which had the Rontokbro virus at that time), it hasn't even shown any signs of such virus manifestation; but my hunch is that maybe an unseen bug could be the reason of this unusual anomaly. I really hate it. Just this morning I lost fourteen precious bucks because of this stupid problem. I don't know if it's just sick or maybe it's grown a mind of its own. If that is the case, then maybe another mean thing this rebel's planning to do is humiliate me. My classmates always laugh at me because I got this (nice) phone with so many games (16 of them, indeed!) and yet whenever we sit down to play them the phone always spoils the fun by turning off even though the batt level is full, no matter what kind of battery you use on it. It's horrible. Anyhow, I just wanna advise you guys--if you got a K700, please--keep it away from viruses. And you know what to tell your other friends about it.

  • To save unsaved numbers, go to your "phone book", go to "new contacts"', go to the "new number" and then press "add, press "lookup" and then press "unsaved" and you'll find all the number that are unsaved there and press Ok to save it and also add the name to it and save. Or better still press the "Calls" button from standby and then scroll to the number you want to save and press "more" and then press "save number" and carry on from there.

  • i've noticed that not all K700 phones look and behave the same way. Some allow multi-letter searches while browsing the phonebook while others don't. In some phones, the media player is silenced when the phone is set to silent mode. In others, such as mine, it is not. Why don't you try setting the phone into silent mode in order to silent-blast the camera? If it still doesn't work, don't simply press and hold the number key. Try setting it through Settings-Sounds and Alerts. I'm not so sure if it's gonna work, the only thing I can ensure you is that not all K700 phones work the same way and I say so because I have noticed it.

  • hi .i said it b4 and i will say it again.this mobile rocks.it'e pretty old and still got the look and up 2date.the screen is wonderful and soo clear just the same as 256 color screen,the camera is up to 1.3 megapixel and gives super clear shots.ofcourse it is not like the 2 mp cameras but for it's range it's preety cool.it's sound is very clear and loud.when i'm in public and my phone rings everybody look at me.i have it since 2 years and i'm still in love with it and if i would like to get any new one i will keep it too

  • I've had my Sony Ericsson K700i since I was 11. I'm only 13 now and yet it's already encountering so many problems. First of all is the malfunctioning joystick and the noisy keypad. It's very disturbing, especially for me as I love to text, especially at night. I also do not happen to like the phone's very small memory and its not having a memory card slot, as I love downloading and I also like to use my phone for gaming. What I hate most about this phone, though, is its poor durability. I dropped it once or twice by accident, and now it's already filled with scratches and most of the paint in the corners has already chipped off. I like the screen's sharpness and vibrant color, though. However, it would've been better if a 3G feature could've been added to this phone, as video calls would probably be great if done here; and besides the Internet, though good-looking, is very slow. Still, even though I'm on my second battery now and my phone looks mighty rubbish (unlike the Nokia phone I used when I was about 9 and the T68 that was mine before this), my trusty K700i continues to be my best mobile companion after all and has somehow proven itself to be quite reliable.

  • I have had a K700i for about 1 year and have found the phone gets dust inside the screen, it freezes and you have 2 take the battery out to get it going again, the toggle thing gets broken easily, sometimes my messages won't delete and its stuck on the internet lol.   • The phone is great. But its joystick is certainly not designed to be used. After roughly 6 months the thing has failed and causes me nothing but irritation. As well the charger cable connection design is poor. After some time the locking nubs wear out and fail to hold a tight connection between the conduits. This leads to the annoyance of getting up in the morning and finding a dead battery waiting for you. I will not buy this phone again. But when it worked it was a joy.

  • I had mine for about 13 months but cannot recommend for sure! Had reception and joy stick problems and had to be repaired, no mobile ever gave me these faults. Doesn't charge properly, guess it's defective charger as well since i read so earlier.When I connect to hands free via bluetooth battery just drains and hardly serves my working hours.   • no sorry stray thats just your phone...lol, general sony-ericsson phones are not that faulty, it is probably the way you treat yours. I've had mine for 2 years, and it is much better condition than yours, so where does ypur argument fit in?

  • I've still got this thing but I never use it anymore because it's so tedious. The charger fails to work properly - it will flick in and out of charging randomly because I guess there's a loose connection inside there somewhere. So you put it on to charge and then wake up the next day to realise you still have an empty battery. This coupled with the fact that the joystick has worn out after about 10 months of use is why the phone is sitting in my draw and why I reverted to my old skool nokia 3330. Plus the little rubber bit of fascia at the bottom of the phone fell off because it was stuck onto the plastic case using some kind of weak glue material. Sony Erricson sure do bring out phones with nice features for the price but their build quality tends to be quite apalling most of the time.

  • Wonderful phone had it since july 6,2005. My problem is the power button broke off and the phone tend to freeze at times. also has a charging problem which I now realize all sony ericssons seem to have. Mine was a gift and that It shall remain. one that i cherish. Wonderful sony.

  • firstly for those who are complainiig about the size of the phone, why are you complaining when you know the memory i that low? it is not a problem it is one of the phones features, why did you get it if you knew thta, secondly the battery life is so low because the screen is very powerful do not do too many things at once e.g call, then play games, then take pictures, then listen to music, sony ericssons have one of the most powerful screens in the business and thirdly the joystick is bound to break, mine took 2 years to break because I took care of it, i think those complaining should do the same...if you have any personal questions email me...p.s. if you have problems with fitting several songs, just donwload a converter like myself I can fit up to 40 songs on my phone....

  • I have been using the k700i for two years. Bought in January 2005 I consider it a one in a million cellphone. I does not make sense to write about the many great features this phone has, because you can read about them on the internet. Before buying it, the review on this website helped me a lot to make my decision. However I would like to give my conclusions about this device. All the great features stated in the gsmarena-review are as described or even better. The four main problem-issues were: 1- the poor battery-life 2- lack of memory-card 3- unstable software 4- jostick does not respond after heavy use I could live very well with them, some of them they do not seem to be a big issue, My recommendations: to 1: I was told to charged the phone at the beginning for about 8 hours and repeat five times the procedure every time the battery was totally empty. Actually it takes only 80-90 minutes to see the full-charged sign and with a normal phone-use it lasts for 3 or 4 days, which I consider very good, looking how great the display is. to 2: Of course 41Mb are not too much. However in my opinion there was not a big problem to transfer files to the pc everytime I needed more memory. to 3: As I told I bought the k700i two years ago. It is an unbranded version. To wait five months after release was the main reason not to have problems with the firmware. I assume I received a very stable one. In two years the cellphone frezzed only twice. to 4: Using the jostick for the common functions (not gaming) and using instead the keys a lot gave the jostick a long life. It is working still perfectly. That was my experience with the k700i. I use to change my devices every two years so I was about to buy the k800i until I saw the Nokia N95. For this reason I decided to wait until March, when Sony Ericsson will announce the new K-Series Cellphone which I hope will beat the N95. For the moment the N95 is a masterpiece and state of the art cellphone. Exactly like the K700i two and a half years ago.

  • ALL K700i USER PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I've been using k700i for abt a year. But after I 1st got played this built-in game "tennis" the joystick started to give problem like sometime it stuck and jam there. My 2nd problem that I encounter happened 2 months ago which is the keypad now started to give problem hang & stuck/jam, instead of alphabet the number came out. Sometime can't press anything until I've to dismantle the battery; take out the sim card and reinstalled everything back again then it is ok.   • the k700i overall is a pretty good and straight forward phone, which offers quite alot...41mb (might not be alot but is quite good for internal memory), mp3 player (very loud and clear; to fit alot of songs download an mp3 compressor, ii can fit 30 songs) camera (the camera may not be state of the art, but in good light you can take really good pictures), bluetooth and infrared (send files for free to other phones) large and powerful screen, now that is why the battery life isnt too long, sony ericssons have really powerful screens, probably the most powerful so do not play music, games, make calls al; in a short space...also set he battery saver life on...

  • I actually enjoyed and still enjoy using my Sony Ericsson. I especially like listing to music and it provides a very good sound. But currently, I'm going throught a big difficulty with the SMS. With just one message (sent, received, in draft), the phone will tell me 'Too many messages. Delete one or more'. I consider restarting it phone but I fear loosing all my personal information mainly my phonebook. Before I do it, I'll appreciate if I can have some peace of advice to fix it.

  • I have been using K700i for last 13 months. I realized that in India once should buy only Nokia products as you do not get spares for SE K700i easily... Good things about the fone are looks good, light weight, JAVA programs runs smoothly and camra is good. Main cons are: 1. Battery life is low 2. No external memory 3. No annual (recurring) / birthday reminder. 4. You cant search SIM and contact simultaneouly. 5. Photographs taken by camara cant be magnified for viewing. 6. Why the memory of fone is fixed to 510... If you have free space left in phone memory, it should allow you to store more numbers...

  • I have had this phone for a lil over a year now and it still works well (despite the amount of drops and thumps it had). i think it is one of the best phones to ever come out. it really holds alot, i have over 100 ringtones plus 1 whole song on it plus pics. i also use the light on the camera as a searchlight. this is a wonderful creation i must say.

  • how to repair joystick - the weakness of K700i or K750i? it is very easy! I have one of those (1 year old K700i) and I was really annoyed with the lazy and sometimes really not functional joystick. After i made it as my friend adviced, it works better than new: 1.Open your phone 2. Unscrew the upper steel part under the keyboard. 3.Remove the plastic button - the upper part of the joystick. 4. remove the thin gum which is placed under the button. 5. put it all together and n-joy! :-)

  • I've had this telephone for about 8 months now, and it's starting to break down. It looks nice, has quite a few features, but when I place it on a table to hard, it says I need to place the SIM-card (I don't know if it's called like this in English, the little card with the data like your phonenumber etc.) then I have to open the back, get the battery out, get the card out, blow a bit and put it all back. This is quite annoying, especially when it says that in your pocket, it doesn't make a noise or so, so I sometimes have a telephone that doesn't work for half a day.   • All these people moaning about battery and joystick means only one thing, YOU dont look after your phone. I have had this phone for 2 and a half years and its still perfect(3 days between charging and i talk a lot). 3 things to keep it like that are, 1: Clean round the joystick once a week with kitchen roll or dry cloth, get the pointed end of the cloth in the joystick and it works a treat. 2: This phone was released in April 2004(UK) and battery is great as long as your not contantly using the radio,games and mp3 player. Dont forget this was one of the first phones with enough memory to hold a descent amont of songs and have all the mod cons of the time so it was a bit of trial and error. 3: Respect your phone and stop ABUSING it and it will work for ever!!! As I have said previously this phone is an all time classic and one for the ages.

  • Sometimes I had some battery's charging troubles with this K700i...and approx. 8 months after buying it I had some joystick's difficulties to surf in, it blocks all the time...BUT apart of it this is not a bad mobile! He is quite good and hope to keep it as long as I can. Wallpapers and MP3 tones are really fun and joyfully. I don't know which other mobile will give me some good services like this K700i???   • Great phone. Great memory. They should have made it possible to actually use a memory card. I watch movies on my phone..but i have to compress it..only if you could expand the memory..but they didnt give the customers that option. The camera is so so..pretty good..sometimes its grainy..depending on the lighting. THE MAJOR problem is the joystick. I and many other K700i users..maybe all..have joystick problems at one point or another. The joystick is a necessity to go to options on your phone..when it stops working..ur phone is useless. THe best way to solve this problem, is to keep your phone in a carrying pouch to keep dust out of it when its in your pocket. I rate this phone an 8.0, i'd give it a 9 if the joystick wasnt a problem, and i'd give it a 9.5 if you could expand the memory. But thats why they have the K800. N for the person who said that the K750 a step lower than this phone..no way. That phone has one of the best cameras for its price.

  • Had this phone for 2 years now and buying a K800 tomorrow. At the time i bought it, it was probably one of the best on the market. Had a very good time using this phone! Can say only 2 bad things about it really, it crashed a couple of times but not really worth mentioning. The most annoying thing is the joystick, its a big dustcollector and after a couple of months it started malfunctioning a bit.

  • Hi i'm from the philippines, i've used my k700i for just about a year then many problems came. after i bought it i noticed that it has poor signal reception compared to nokia phones. and now the unit gets hot on standby i can use it anymore because when you leave the unit on for about an hour it will become shortend and can destroy the main board. the bad thing is it cant be repaired as told by the authorized service center of se. the only option is to replace the board which will cost about 80% of the unit itself. se phones are difficult to repair so i personally would NOT advise to buy se phones. eventhough some have nice features i still go for other brands. coz se phones once they get damaged or have problems prepare your money...

  • If somebody wants to talk more than 2.5h than I suggest to look for something else. SE is laying in your face when it says that this cell can handle 7h talk time. It is impossible with this size color screen and only 700 mah battery, no matter if it is polimer or ion.I hope this is useful opinion for some of you.

  • this phone is cool with cool features, but after about a year the joystick just conks out and navigation is impossible. also if you leave it on it your pocket and the centre button is continually pressed by accident, it sends continuous blank text messages to the person at the top of your list. Always lock your keypad!!!!!! The camera pictures are really slow to load too and there's no USB. also the quality of the mp3s is pretty rubbish - there's no hi-fi speaker so it all sounds really fake and mono. but the organiser is good and the games are ok but repetitive. u also cant pause video recording or sound recordings, or when you're watching them, nor can you fast forward.

  • Network reception is good.MP3 sound quality is superb in case you hear it on handfree with full equalizer settings. Radio is an added advantage.

  • I have had this phone for over a year. It's a very good phone. Camera is ok, video capture not so great. Size and weight is excellent. Bluetooth works well, but I have yet to find a phone that syncs well with Microsoft Outlook. Radio and mp3 sound is excellent. What it lacks is a memory card and the ability to play AAC files (itunes files). If/when I upgrade to a new phone, the K790 is the one I want.

  • Very Good phone. Ive had it for just over a year now and I would still recomend it. Certain firmware on models stops you from using mp3's as ringtones (something I suffer from!) however after searching various internet forums I found a program that lets you overide this, provided you also have the USB cable. On the whole its great. Good camera, nice camera effects for if you get bored! Can record videos. Ive got about 50 different games ive downloaded from variouis sites for free. At the price its at now you cant go wrong with this phone.

  • I have had the k700i for 8 months now and have been pleased with how it performs. The camera is good for VGA although some pictures look fuzzy and blured and so does the recording device The pixles often show up and looks awful. bluetooth is fast and reliable and always sends and recieves information without fail. The phone has been well designed and still looks modern compared with phones made today. Over the past couple of months the phone is starting to look tired and is showing signs of wear and tear. Build quility isnt the best as the aliminium battery cover rattles and slides off when in your pocket and the joystick has a mind of its own and decides not to work somedays. The charger cover has also come off and it now looks bare but only time will tell if it lasts for much longer as i feel the k700i isnt made to last and my older phones have seemed more robust like the kokia 3510 and 3310 absolutely bulletproof but feel the k700i is better than sony erricsons of yaw.

  • I've had the phone for over 2 years. As for functionality it's great ans suits my needs. My vices are 1) Standby could be better 2) You have to be careful with the screen. As it's not recessed, it's easy to scratch or even worse shatter. 3) it has a zoom function, but I find it hard to use, the zoom function is not user friendly. But hey, there are new models out, so you can always upgrade when you get bored !

  • It is a phone with all the feature i need. small size(important) the bad thing is: i repaired it for 3 times in 2 months. the screen became totally white and the phone was dead very frequently. I wish it was just me who got this problem I have to say that SOny Ericsson is good on fashion design(which heritaged from SONY) and bad on the qualities (which heritaged from Ericsson, you see, Ericsson is almost dead now. it keep unemploying people arround world.)

  • Hi tushar! yar it depends on how much files you store in da phone! it offers 41 MB! in which 1 or 2 MB is taken by the phone for working when da phone is un used! when u capture images,videos and other kind of stuff such as ringtones and mp3s the storage space decreases as u add files! but the total memory available to you is round about 39,40 MB! so if you want to go for it then do! its better than 6600 in some aspects and in some aspects 6600 is more better than it! but 1 thing is certain! the camera result of k700i is far more better than 6600. and the sound quality is worth checking! but it depends on how much you have to store in da phone! if ur usage is limited then go for it and be known that it offers 40 MB space! and if u want to shoot hours videos then keep your 6600 and add a memory card of 256 MB in it! hope you make the rite choice! bye

  • Hey ive found out how to take the cover off the SE k700i phone! Take the battery cover off and there are lil clips on the side of the black casing. You have to push all of them outwards and try gettin them out their holes. Its tricky to do, but it ment that i could finally get the dust out from under the screen! Also, if you have trouble with the joystick, you can tug that off and clean the dust from underneath it that mite have been causing it to not work properly!!! (i used a fine paintbrush to get underneath the metally thing) Hope this helps!!

  • i got my K700i about a year and a half ago. i was impressed. it has lots of features, more than i would use under normal circumstances. It has slot of memory and you can add a lot of contact information and profiles pictures. I also like the fact that it plays MP3�s. when I got this phone there was a promotion and I received a blue tooth ear piece which I used a lot while traveling between home and work. It�s sound quality is better than the phones speaker. I used voice dialing a lot which worked quite well. The only problem I had was that when you want to record a name for voice dialing the rooms background noises has to be 100% silent. The FM radio worked well on the channels it picked up which weren�t a lot. I had a problem with having to connect the headset before being able to activate the radio. It uses the headset as an antenna. I also didn�t like that it�s calendar options are extremely limited. I usually put all my friends and families b�days and anniversaries on my phone�s calendar as reminders, but I couldn�t do it with this phone. The on/off button broke, so i had to remove the button and I can only turn it on or off with a pin. The phone freezes up a lot and then I have to remove the battery and put it back to restart it because trying to turn it off manually doesn�t work. The phone also has a camera which isn�t worth much. There are many features, but what are they worth if the photos aren�t good? Aside from the glitches I found this phone to be useful. It was a bit expensive for all the glitches and I think sony ericsson could do with sorting out the problems. I won�t recommend it to my friends.

  • i've been using this cp for about a year now and its really nice. the only thing is that when i'm using a certain sim card from a specific network provider, am not receiving all of my sms messages, but when it's another brand of simcard (any other network provider) i dont have this certain problem. :-( its sad since i dont have the flexiblity to switch between the two networks.

  • well i just got the cell phone yesterday and when i went to go use the cell phone today it had a lo of problems. Since the phone is unlocked, i had to set up my service providers network for the internet. After i got my service providers to help set it up, the phone would connect to the internet by itself. For example if i was in the middle of a text message, it would connect me to the internet. or if i was in the middle of a phone call and i would look at my phone, it would be connected to the internet. I am returning the phone for another one, but the same model. Hopefully it was just a defected one and it would happen agian. i will let you guys know what happens when i get a new one.

  • i like this phone, but i can't use it like a real mp3-player because lack of memory but using some programs like ImTOO MpeG Encoder you can change the bitrate of song to 64kpbs an you can store around 35 songs! the phone has great sound trought headset!

  • i think Radio is now a necessary feature in todays cellphones.there are many reasons like if your city has FM Radio Stations then you can enjoy newest songs 24x7 and there would be no need to crave for expensive memory cards and mp3 etc.Also if you go to a newer city for studies , job etc then only radio can be your companion and you will not miss your family.

  • samir, Correct this: The 7250 is not compatible to any devices that has IRDA coz it's Ir(7250) is for sending business cards only, not for tones,pictures, etc... K700 IRDA is compatible of sending,recieving any files of any type to any phones that has IRDA too,

  • @lilan: its part of the phone's camera options. just select "extended". don't expect too much from it though. its still VGA quality extrapolated to higher res by the phone this was my previous phone. its a great overall phone. bang for the buck. the interface IMO is on par with Nokia's user friendly GUI

  • I've been using SE K700 for a couple of months already and it works good for me. It's less expensive but the qualities is at par comparable to expensive Nokia Mobile Phones.

  • I think it's a great phone but I have one major problem with the IrDA. I'm trying to send some files to my friend's Panasonic VS3 by the InfraRed Port but then there is some error code on the SE. If he send's me a file there is no problem. The same is when i try to send a file to Nokia 7250i. Is there any solution like upgrading the firmware or the IrDA's of the two phones SE and Panasonic are uncompatible.

  • STRAP can be fit inside the back battery cover.what u hv to do is to remove the back cover and see near the charging points.u will see that there is a U shaped hole.Just fit your strap band over there and slide back the cover.Thats it. AS FAR AS feature are concerned which people want in this phone, they should understand that " THE MORE SUGAR YOU WILL POUR FOR PUDDING , THE SWEETER IT WOULD BE."   • Got me a K700i sometime back. Great Value for Money. The battery is not all that baad too. There is an issue with the location of the Loudspeaker activation button (takes 3 secs AFTER receiving the call to find out and activate), and where is the strap supposed to fit into? On the whole a good instrument needs the following improvements: a)External Memory Card b)Changeable Covers c) Changeable SMS Alert Tone (The factory fitted tone cannot be changed !!) Much better than a comparable NOKIA

  • hi guys in philippines k700 is very popular and best selling handset till now. many people prefer k700 there coz it's very cheap unlike before and it offers what a high end phone can offer now even the k600 3g and k300 are featurepack camera phones too. the only drawback is the lack of memory but still enough for everything. k-series seems to be the best in product line of SE and the w-series comes next to it.

  • K700i is over all a good set specially in this price range here in Pakistan. but few are publically recognized demerits of this set: Durability is not very much trustworth. soft wear being helding in many cases. Joy stick often causes problem in case of very frequent and aggressive useage. the plus points are : with good built in memmory good display extra ordinary sounds and colours. camera result satisfactory as in VGA camera.

  • I bought this phone with four of my friends together 2 years ago since it's a very hot phone at the era!!bought at about US$250... And you know!!It joystick really sucks!! 1 of my friend's phone having joy stick problem(joystick unsensitive for left & down) just after 1 week buying the phone,and after go to repair,resulting all the data in the phone lost!!Later on,my phone having joystick problem...same with my friend....take to repair and make me alone for 2 weeks!!(no phone what?) And later on....on by one having joystick problem...only 1 among 5 of us don't have joystick problem till now... But not guarentee won't happen....who knows...maybe anytime!!!What to say??SE sucks!! Now a change to Sony Ericsson K750i and the joystick seems starting to having problem now....sometimes unsensitive when scroll it up..... I should pray!!Not again......Not lonely again...

  • SE K700i does not have an USB port (for Mohammad). MP3 can be played without the headset (for zynkerr). The joystick's sensitivity decrease if you use to play on the phone very often

  • In my opinion this is a very good phone. The price/quality ratio is the best. It is very user frendly and all the features works well. The only minus i could found it was the battery and the coupling system.

  • I had one... and i guess whats really wrong with SE phones is that they're not very reliable... Ive had several nokias and although they were pretty boring and didnt have very good sound, at least they would work as expected. I had my k700 for less than a month and the joystick just broke, out of nothing. Not that i dropped it, nor that i was too hard on the joystick... it just broke. And ive heard quite a few people complain about the same thing in all se phones... they all tend to go wrong sooner or later.

  • budix... to be true, i'm a k300 user nut i have a tip for you for your problem... the display is the much, much battery comsuming. so turn you phone display in powersave in settings. when not in use the display will turn off but not affect you phone's activity, just the LCD. ope this helps

  • This model ( K700 ) have lots of memory but actually we can use only about 10 to 20MB only. If we using more than that we need to fix it. I using this model right now and i just fix it bcoz of i using around 15MB. i can't deny that K700 have very good sound (MP3 and Poly) and nice camera pictures.Sony Ericsson always the best in sound (songs), camera and video. Check out Sony Ericsson K750 and cool stuff in W800.

Most phones dont have infrared.The only problem i am am having with the phone is the mp3 player.it crackles when you play songs.   • My k700i is perfect for me, its design is so attractive, Battery life is enough, it has MP3 player and FM radio, sound quality is superb and memory capacity is amazing. The only problem with this phone is about its text message letter capacity that is only 160 letters. The features of this phone is awesome, overall it�s a great phone with perfect features and good price without any problem during last 7 months I have been using it. Well done sonyericsson.

(alot of noise in the picture-not clear as it will have alot of dots in it.) overall a good phone with great features.. i love to use it to plav videos on my pc since it acts as a cordless mouse via b.tooth.

  • m4a is a aac format used by itunes, u can use itunes to convert mp3/wma to m4a usually a m4a file will sound good and clear at 64kbps while a mp3 will not sound as good.....i heard there is even a newer format call eaac+ or something which can sound good at even lower bitrate

  • Though this damn good phone offers a crystal clear sound, it fails to produce better pictures thru its camera. When we are about to capture a picture, its so clear but after capture it produces a little blurr..Hearin mp3 is somethin heavenly but headset undergoes depreciation presently. Unlike any other phone in its category, we cant zoom in while at 640*480 cam mode. And it offers poor quality photos in bad light. What it badly misses is a memory expansion slot. But i would recommend this phone to people lookin for a best phone in its category which has mp3, radio, bluetooth, IR, good camera and that too with an affordable price tag..

Photography is my hobby and for my hobby K700i is The Best Phone at this price with the beauty of Dual front design. I love its design from both fronts. Especially the design of the camera is marvelous. Though Sony Ericsson offers lots of Camera phones in various price and functionalities but I felt in love with this phone when I saw its camera. I also appreciate Rubber Cork at the bottom of it because it hides the connecting slots and make it smooth and good looking.

  • The sound of shutter cannot be switched off as to protect other people's privacy.But you can do the following :- 1. Dial your toll free customer care number. 2. when call starts , press joystick and select "main menu" 3. Now go to the camera and take pictures till toll fre call goes. enjoy !

  • I bought my SE 700i about three weeks ago. It's a very nice phone compare to what you can get with the features in respact to other big phones. However. I'm not too happy with the way the battery is going down every now and then. It's always a big dis appointment for me to have my battery been charge in the middle of the day.   • is friendly user but has a problem, it's easily "Hang"(like computer Hang) when writing sms, I hv to remove and place back the battery to restart(ON). And sometime it's just switch "OFF" itself, can be restart by just press the ON/OFF button. And it seem that not on this model my relative others Model too. Why it only happen in SonnyEricsson Phone? My old, other Brand HPs without this problem.

  • Dear Sir/Madam, I have purchased K700i(MADE IN CHINA) Sony Ericsson in Singapore on 01/01/2006,now I the present status of the mobile is totally dead.It Has been checked with HWK new version software, shows pre-boot ok, but I am unable to install MCU flash when I tried to install from the another same K700i mobile (IMEI 35401200-264825-8-11-made in HONGKONG)software I hope that you will respond possitively.   • if u are having problems sending files from phone to PC, it's most likey due to incorrect port settings (ie. didn't open or opened wrong port)

  • Pls am finding it very diffiult to download sound to my phone even after intalling the sound editor on my PC.i'd tried it several times via infra red.no way.
