I have only had local AT&T and T-Mobile place a SIM card in this phone to hear "it's not compatible with our network" is an easy answer (I have not tried Sprint). The phone still receives an "Emerg calls only" display, which, when I "choose network," is AT&T. I *REALLY* need help to continue to use this phone as a telephone! Otherwise, it's a Sony Walkman with a really good camera!

I've had one of these for several years. I like the compact format and the built-in Facebook app. Main issue is the AC charger is defective, frequently brings up message "Charging error, stop charging" and is very slow in fully charging the phone. The car charger cable works better and charges much faster. Photo quality is acceptable but it would be nice to be able to suppress the fake shutter sound! I have not received any notification about this phone not working in AT&T network in 2017.

This cell sucks!!!It always gets hanged when I receive call from a new number. I have to either remove battery or wait for 5-10 min to get it restarted. Also the port for charging doesn't work. Battery backup is also not so good. Only Headset for Music is Good. Don't go for it...

I have had this phone since June 2010. It now does not send emails for me. I cannot send to facebook on it either. So it does not do what it has been designed to do. When I send pics by email it denys access. I can't change the settings on it so my email password is accepted. I would not recommend this brand any more.

I've had this phone for almost 2 years now. I got it brand new and about 2 months after I got it it started saying inactive sim, which was really annoying and to fix it I had to turn it off wait a while and then turn it back on. It would do this about 5 times a week!

Had this phone for over a year (was second hand when I got it) and I JUST LOVE IT - got everything I need and is sooo easy to use! :) recently keeps going INACTIVE SIM so much so that I have to use another phone most of the time (which I hate as is a touch job). it makes me miss my phone even more!! Have tried taking battery in and out which initially worked but now may work but only for very short time. ?????? anything else I can do. I can't get hold of a new one.

If the card worked with the phone before it might be the SIM-card reader, that is broken. Else try to another SIM-card and make sure it is inserted properly. Test with a friends SIM-card or ordering a replacement card.

It shows emergency only because you are out of signal, no reception. Is an issue with your network provider. All phones have that built into them, they can take another network and allow u to dial emerg. numbers only7

i've used this phone for 2 years and my experiences are: -it accidentally fall to the toilet bowl.then it turned off by itself.i waited for about 1day till it truly clean and dry.when i turned it on, it still works perfectly except for the "Back" button.since i truly love this phone,i juz let it be... -it fell for about tons of times and sometimes it does have those "Inactive Sims" going..but i juz open up the battery,clean it,and fill the battery back and switched it on.it works perfectly for me..=) -since i'm a music keen (awesome bass)and flip lover..i love u my whitey W508..=D

The "Inactive SIM" usually means moisture in the phone. My wife got that a lot until she started using a little fabric sock around the phone (absorbs her perspiration).

I regularly get inactive sim 1. turn it off 2. take off back cover, remove battery, remove sim 3. clean sim and put all back in always works. had phone for 2 years. On occasion option 2 and leave open for few hours, then put it back together. (i.e had it in pockets whilst exercising - i get inactive sim)

Have had this phone for 18 months , and i have really looked after it .From about the first 4 months it began to play up ( inactive sim)It was repaired twice under the warranty but is now once again giving problems. Sony are just not interesed with my ongoing issue. I was told by the Phone Dealer that there has always been an ongoing problem with this phone. It is a pity that Sony do not recognise this problem . Apart from this, I am happy with the product but will not purchase another of this brand

brought this phone brand new (in new zealand)was GREAT for about 7 months then it started to screw up. everything lagged, it kept saying 'ínactive sim' for some weird reason. and then eventually buttons just stopped working. havnt treated it with the best care but it has happened o many other people i know too and they hae had to all get theirs repaired at some point. they are'nt exactly built to last. otherwise its awesome, has a conversation modein txting, and good camera with heaps of editing tools

Hi everyone. :) I do *not* recommend this phone!! I have already sent it away to be repaired once (for the common fault of a button not working), and have recently sent it away again due to the screen no longer working. I have several friends with this phone, and they are all having problems with it. Granted, I did not take the best care of my phone, but I am not the only person who's having several common problems. After usage of 2months i found some strange sounds i heard during incoming & outgoing call. I found problem solved little bit even after repair in sony service center.Then after usage of 1yr. i found the screen display became blank. I bought it in 850SR but now i found it's really bad to use. Except music nothing is spectacular.

There is a fundamental flaw in the design of the W508 if you carry it in your pocket: The external touch controls that are used for the Walkman Player also mute the ringer/vibration alert when receiving a call...even if the key lock switch is on. So if you're walking and phone is in your pocket, the movement can cause a touch control to activate causing an incoming phone call to immediately silence without you knowing it...and you will miss the call. Also, walking can repeatedly activate the touch controls in general which causes the external display to briefly show, "Use Lock Key" if in English. At the least, this can cause needless battery drain. If you unlock the touch controls and walk with the phone in your pocket, you'll realize how often those keys are being activated.

I bought one but trade-in for nokia x3. Now I really regret it. in terms of looks, defintely w508. the only feature that stands out from x3 compare to w508 is the radio which doesn't require a plug-in ear piece.

This phone es excellent specially the speakers volume, it´s amazing!! The only con I have to it is the headphone and charger connection, wich gets a little bit loose. I have to say that I use it every day to listen music or radio on my way to the University. If you have it, keep it!!!

yes you can use it with mac and from sony ericsson homepage there is software available for os x ;) I have this phone for 1,5 years now and this is excellent phone with many little options, that make things alot more simple, like push email and copy-paste function. battery is still good and last 4-5 days

How is the coverage for rural areas. I live in a bad area & have a Z750i which is meant to be blue tick but doesn't get any better reception than most phones. I get a small amount of reception with next G but really need a phone that works. I know the testra explorer T165 will get the best reception but its so ugly!

NOT GOOD. PROs-- good reception, very comfy keyboard, loud incoming calls, good camera CONS-- slow software (when saving a contact the phone freezes for about 7-10 seconds) and you cant do anything, speaker is not loud (in a little noisy environment you can't hear people)

Yeap i think it is worth to buy, i have this phone for almost a year now and it's really good, i don't know why so many people say that the battery isn't good (doesn't last much)...because the stand-by on my phone is more than satisfying, almost 4 days per-one-charge if i don't use it that much and it can play up to 20H of music. What i mostly like about this phone is: - It has very clear and loud Loudspeaker - Scratch-resistant surface for both displays (it's not to much to remeber because this is a really cool feature which not so many phones have, and it makes the difference ) - Gesture Control (changing the volume of the sound with just a gesture of your wrist it's a very unique feature...hehe...it's like magic :P ) - it's also an Walkman Player = superior audio quality - stand-by & talk-time are more than satisfactory ... i can tell many other features that i like on this phone but these are the most relevant i think :)

Hi, I dont have a W508 but I have a W205 sony ericson. On my cellphone you go to organizer and tools on the main menu then go down to tasks which is reminders on a sony ericson usually. Hope this helps!

This phone is sad, repeatedly switches off by itself a.k.a dying, poor battery life when listening to mp3s, trying to update it is near impossible through the phone itself. Vibrate is not worth having on because you won't feel it when it goes off. The connections are faulty. The keypad will scratch your screen and permanantly put circles on the screen. Not worth buying.

On the right side there is een lock botton, if you put it on lock, your mp3player will not switch on. To have a better battery life, you must turn G3 off. Or try een software update, that helped me.

I have this phone because its the only one i could get at the time and the battery life on this phone does NOT last up to 400 h on stand by. it only last up to 48 to 72 h (2 - 3 days). i would appreciate it if the "Sony Ericsson Company" would have a better battery life on their products.

It is a good phone. I experience no laggy even with few application opened. Sound is good and got an easy access to music too. Camera resolution is good but it has no autofocus. The video also can record up to 15fps only. (well its ok since this phone is a W series) Out off all, I dont satisfied with the battery life. Just one and half day for a light usage. (25 sms) I recommend this phone for music lover.

hi hani what i do recommend is 1- remove the memory card 2- restore default ( factory ) settings 3- do the hardreset test , take the battery out and the sim card, switch on the phone with the battery and leave the sim out, then switch it off and put back the sim again . 4- try the usb cable again and if it can read it then, update the software using the website and connecting ur mobile through the USB cable not the bluetooth. hope it works for you

IMHO, its a phone at a great price [YUM], the keypad are good to press except for the navigating pad which is hard to adapt to. Very light weighted phone. It doesnt lag for me [not an excessive user]. However, it cant detect my memory card sometimes, i have to repeatedly slot in and out till it reads my card. But thats no biggie. There is a flash menu, which i find it rly annoying, so i dled a couple of themes, to 'static' it Im satisfied with the phone, and i rly love the poetic white it offers + free additional cover design. Like w595, i have difficulty removing the back cover of this phone if i have to take out sim/ memory card, [nails dmg ++]. The sound is great, but its annoying if u blast it at full volume, and to be able to access music player from the front cover is a plus plus for me. Camera is alright, as im alr used to having 3< megapixel for a phone, video is a lil disappointing tho, need some 'significant' amount of light to capture neatly. In a nutshell, if ur someone who goes for style phone + music lover, this is the one, if ur going for features like wifi look elsewhere, u get what u pay :)

i have it for about 6months... the only thing bad about it is its battery life... it lasts for about 3 days with normal usage but when using internet it only last for a day... other than that there is nothing wrong in it... no lag and quickly

i do not reccomend this phone, although i am a fan of sony ericsson. i have it, and will have to send it away AGAIN to get fixed. it is incredibly laggy, and freezes alot. it quite often says my sim is inactive, and eventually the screen goes white and says no network connection and you cannot use it at all. when it gets sent away they just wipe the phone completely and put a new operating system on, but obviously this isnt enough as it happens all over again with the new system on.

I've been using this phone for 4 months. And to give it a summary, this phone is averagely good and I should be given a rating of 8/10. Pros: 1) Sound definitely good 2) Stylish 3) Never experienced any lag 4) User friendly 5) Scratch-proof ( I've dropped a couple of times but not even a visible scratch or crack - lol probably made from a tortoise ) 6) Price is considerably cheap with its features. Cons: 1) Camera is too simple ( yea I know it's a W series ) 2) You cant take pictures with your secondary camera 3) The Style-up Cover is not purchasable in the market.

This phone is alright but battery life is very average as others have mentioned. The other big issue is the menu system and navigating the phone, it is VERY VERY laggy, slow and takes too long to catch up to what I have pressed. Have even updated the software on the phone, this made no difference at all. Overall a little disappointed with this model. Is anyone else having slow/laggy problems?

I have tried to update the software but it is said that my phone has the latest software (and I dont reinstall the software), but still my few weeks new phone only last about 2 days or so. Should I reinstall or I should wait the next new sofware? Some say that the radio is the culprit: when turned on it stays on, and the phone should be master resetted to turn the radio off (dont know: reset setting or reset all). But I do love my w508, although its text input in SMS is quite poor. I hope Sony Ericsson do something about this...

If you do a software update your battery life will last for about a week instead of 1 day. I've had the same problem and now it's solved. You'll find the software update on the site of Sony-ericcson.

I bought this about a week ago from Amazon, excellent cellphone is all I can say. I considered the Z550a I was using before a masterpiece, but the W508 is even better. The phone has a slick design and it's very lightweight and low profile. The Z550a was slightly bulky in comparison. I get no signal problems and battery lasts for about 5 days with normal use. I have a Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset that goes with it. With music heavy streaming I can use it for a whole day before it needs recharge. The headset is feature rich and I have mostly explored the music features and they all work really well. The SensMe feature is just awesome because I don't always feel like selecting 30 to 40 music tracks to listen, with SensMe the player does it for me according to my mood. The phone has superb voice quality and can ring loudly. The only complain is the external display doesn't show the clock permanently like the Z550 did. I wish I didn't had to open it to look at the clock or press the volume control on the side to make it show the time. Perhaps a feature coming with a new firmware. Another minor complaint is that the vibration is rather weak, again compared to the Z550a. But I can still feel the phone ringing, I'll have to see if I can feel the phone ringing on my pocket when in a loud place. This is by far the best phone I've ever had. The only thing that would make it better is if it had WiFi.

I just bought this phone and after some daily use here are my thoughts. The camera is decent, but I don't like how when you take a picture it doesn't use the full screen for the picture put instead 2/3 of the screen. The rest is covered in options and waste of black space. I love it because it flips, but the mechanism on the flip isn't the best. Ive seen other flip phones that open by themselves when pushed halfway, but this phone will just stay in the halfway position if you push it up halfway. Requiring some extra thumb effort that could have been avoided with a spring loaded flip. Software is great, lagless and runs smoothly all throughout. Some annoying features is the tiny light on the cover cannot be manually activated. I know it not meant to be used as a flash light but making it activateable on command would have been nice. Videocall camera cant be used to take pictures of yourself which is pretty silly. Maybe they will add it in a software update but I doubt it. Keys don't feel good. On my old sony ericsson whenever I pressed a key I could feel a nice firm click letting me know I have pressed it and allowing me to text without looking at the phone. On the W508 the keys have a very minimum click to them, so when I text sometimes I won't know if I pressed a key and will end up pressing it twice only to see a spelling error in my text. Final Thought: Definately worth the money paid $170 CAD and one of the better flip phones out there for the international market.

Depends really on what you're looking for. I bought this phone mainly because of its stylish flip phone design. (Closest I can get to a Japanese phone). However, its other functions are just as impressive. The interior/exterior is scratch-resistant. I've had it for 9 mths and it looks good as new. Plus, the white one does not turn yellow at all. Camera-wise, its pretty good for 3.2MP, without autofocus + flash. It's not a Cybershot phone camera afterall. Pictures turn out the best in bright sunlight. The secondary camera can be used as a mirror (if you're that vain). Lol. Texting is easy as the keypads are spaced out and easy to press. Gesture control lets you stop incoming calls without opening the phone. Just a swipe of your hand! Pretty cool. Phone themes are customizable (like any other SE phone)which is definitely a plus! Built-in speakers are loud, battery life is pretty reasonable. Goes uncharged 3 days max. The only "bad" thing I can say about it is that there isn't a keypad lock. Only a lock on the exterior display, to prevent you from activating the Walkman functions. PS: It's a great phone. You won't have regrets. ;D

Hey John, I own this phone and i must say the camera is good, but not great. Can't expect much without autofocus or flash. Pics turn out really great if not awesome (for a 3.2 mp camera) in bright sunlight. Not so much under dark lighting. Video recording is decent. Though the vids turn out distorted/pixelated. When filming in night mode, there's like a 0.01 second delay when you move the phone so it kinda looks like the image is being "dragged" along. Personally, I love the camera. I owned a CYBERSHOT phone before this so I know the quality of this is far inferior. Still, for a Walkman phone, its pretty good. Hope this helps.

sorry to say, but there is no way to extent the ringing time for sony ericsson sms/msg tone even you use mp3. all sony ericsson have the same 10-20 second ringing time for sms/msg, you could try 3rd party software.

It can be used just for video-calling, but i can say it is really fantastic, u can use it as a mirror! the phone is good i think, very slim among flip-up phones has a large display lcd and i think although u can not change the whole cover of the phone but it makes it really cool!!! i recommand it to those who want a flip up phone with average price but acceptable features, but battery life?! hey the phone can,t survive jmore than 3 days after a full charging, even after decreasing the brightness!!! but it's really cool! ;)

listen all this is the main disadvantages : 1- No detailed call records. 2- Weak vibration. 3- Message tune lasts for 10 second only. 4- You can not search the contacts in phonebook by phonebook groups,as the phonebook groups are just made to send messages. 5- Call ends automatically after 60 minutes. 6- There is no minute beep every minute during call. 7- There is only on port, this port is used to charge or connect the handfree or connect the USB (i mean you can only do one -just one at the same time-of these function. So, Check N81 you will find that each function of above has its own port. 8- There is no keypad lock, that means anyone touches your mobile will see you private data. 9- Radio antenna is attached to handsfree, so you can not listen to radio unless you attach this antenna. Finally : anyone has a solution about any point plz tell me specially (3,4,8)

i just brought this phone, my reviews: - great walkman phone with mega bass and shake control. - good connectivity, with HSDPA, bluetooth, and usb cable. - good camera, with 3.2 MP, but without autofocus and flash. still looks good when enough light. - Java, 3D gaming, and motion gaming. it has acclerometer but i don't thing its usefull in clamshell phone. - nice design with changeable cover, but its difficult in assambly the front and back cover, makes the memory not hot-swapable.

I prefer keypads that have some distance between them rather than those that are all close together where you can press two keys at the same time unintentionally... for me the distance between the keys is just ok, its not so far as it seems.

1. Yes, it shows the incoming caller name, but only if his/her contact is saved in the phones contact list. When a new message is recieved the external screen shows an tiny envelope icon. 2. I dont know, but i think that if the volume rocker is pressed while somebody is calling you, it will silence the call, but i`m not sure. 3. dont know :/ 4. No...the LED is only for icoming calls and the alarm clock. Well...i have this phone for about three months and all i can say is that its a very good phone and it has a really loud and clear sound... if you want a phone that is centred in music, this is the best choice by far.

Thinking of buying the phone, downloaded the manual and went through, but still not clear the following: 1- does the outer screen show incoming caller name? messages received? 2- is there any oter way to mute ringing tone other than this gesture control method? for eg. any key turns to "silence" in addition to "accept" "reject" as with nokia phones? 3- Is it possible also to mute tones of received messages the same way? (this is v. imp to me as I usually make a very load tone for messages and with SE G900 there is no way to silence sms tones! 4- Is there LED indicator for missed events? One final thing, I'm also trying to compare this phone to Nokia 6700 classic (a classy looking Nokia) and still confused between both.. anyone have a recommendation?!

No, it will not turn yellow, the front is done by IMD, an expensive and high quality method of molding the color into the plastic through layers of foil, on top of it is a clear layer. Thus, no possibility of turning yellow. As for the back, it is spray with PU paint. This type of paint, unlike UV paint has no yellowish content in white unlike UV paint. again, very little possibility of turning yellow.

i'd just bought the phone yesterday..poetic white...it isn't slow at all..i posted this very same question before but no reply..:( so i took the risk and bought one.. it isn't slow at all..trust me..:)..just a little laggy when u turn it on..little tiny bit..well i don't think u will turn on and off the phone everyday.. the keypad is comfortable...the numerical numbers do space out a little compared with candy bar phones particularly..but i still feel they are comfortable for texting...eventhough for small fingers users like me... overall, i'm very happy with this phone..the only trouble i'm having is changing the style up cover..its quite hard to take out the old one..other than that..its a great phone... i used to doubt if my choice is correct..now i can tell u..it is the best...anyway..there many pirated ones in my country..i go for the original one..and yes, genuine is the best...if the same thing happens in ur country..i suggest u take the genuine..

The only lag I experience is when I switch on the phone. Other than that I did not notice any form of lagging. I still like the phone after 4 months of using it. I like the fact that I can have flash themes with flash menus on SE phones.

I notice that any apps that come with the phone has the delete option inactivated. However, those apps that I have installed myself can be deleted from the Options menu.

I don't have that cell, But i think they could turn the music on and off, or go through menus, or something like so .. the very least is that the outer screen will be lit and cause fast consumption of the battery. an easier solution would be to wear looser clothes, healthier anyways ;) or you can use a belt case and hang it to your waist or something.

Well, I don't like from W508 are Geo-tagging (cell ID), Facebook for Sony Ericsson, 3MP camera. If I would like to go for Sony Ericsson phone again, I think I will go for Z555i, Z610i, Z770i or W980(I W980 has 3 MP camera, but without geo-tagging, and Facebook for Sony Ericsson. I agree with you! Sony Ericsson is easy in installing Java games. If your phone gets problem, I advice you to take it Sony Ericsson service center for repair. W508's design is good, but I don't like some its features.

Hi my friend your wellcom :) for sure I think Nokia has better quality and for music ( music edition ) grup I have N73 for 2 years. it is not unfortunatelly music edition but the sound and fasilities are really good and better than sony ericson they have focus and zoom!! how ever (5530 &.. ) they aren't as well as n73 ( carlzise lenz) but I think they are much better than w508 in sony ericson w902 has a 5 mega pixel camera and also it is walkman these are my openion talk to superb more to make a good dicison ;)

it is a beautiful and smart phone but u can't expect alot from its camera becuese it doesn't have zoom and flash samsung D900i ( my father's phone ) has much better camera and it is smart too but you can't install java programs as easy as sony ericsson and messages doesn't save on memory card also picyures and movies first saves on phone and you have to move them to memory card but w902 has every thing how ever of course it is more expensive

u shud HOLD the centre button FIRMLY when you want to try the gesture mode.. for example you could try holding the button, and move the handphone upward or downward in order to change the volume or just shake it right or left, while HOLDING the centre button.

Yeah, that is one disadvantage. You have to flip open the phone in order to do that. Maybe its intentional so that you have to do much more than just pressing a button and that should bring you out of your slumber :-)

Well, I think each country has different way including price, service center (good or not), etc. Because I like clamshell phone, I think Nokia 6600 Fold is good looking with small dimension. But, that's all up to you. In my country Nokia 6600 Fold and Sony Ericsson W980 are almost the same in price thing. While Sony Ericsson W508 price is not too expensive. It has many good features. Then, Motorola, I never hear the reputation is bad (maybe I don't know. It's OK). Even, I plan to buy Motorola later. Thank you for replying me!

Thanks Tim for your recommendation. I have Z 520 clamshell and yes the flex cable was changed twice along the last 3 years and now it happens again but i no longer find this spare unit in the service center so i am using it and the screen flickers and move around and waiting to buy new mobile. i haven't tried samsung mobiles nor motorolla. i think samsung mobiles are very light and it wouldn't tolerate( i don't know if this right or wrong),about motorolla in my country the company that guarrantee the motorlla is very bad and don't have good reputation and i won't buy a mobile that hold the same company guarrantee so what is left now is either nokia or sony ericsson, i prefer sony ericsson but if there is a better nokia phone it is ok. may be i haven't arranged my points well. Good build quality,light weight,small in dimension, good keys, good battery,good looking. i want to buy something as good and better than my Z 520 not less than it. although z 520 has the problem of flex but i love it and appreciate the phone even it doesn't have the huge features that are available now. about w 980 i think it doesn't have the option to show the picture of the person calling i have read some comments of people asking about this option. anyway it is a good phone but it is still expensive in my country it is around 430 USD although in every other country around 250 USD i think i will wait for the T 715 sony ericsson phone i hope it will be good phone, if not i may think about the w 995 again

Allow me to tell you: I know clamshell phones have a weakness in flexible cable thing. Some people always said like that. I am worry too about the flexible cable, but it's OK for me. I had used clamshell phone for 21 months and never replace the flexible cable until now. You said Z520's external screen can show picture of person who are calling. I think Sony Ericsson W980 and Motorola RAZR phones can do this too because their external screen is colorful. Of course, W995 is expensive because its features. If you said you want a good looking phone, I would say some Motorola phones (RAZR V3i, RAZR V3x, RAZR V3xx, RAZR Maxx V6, RAZR2 V8, RAZR2 V9, W510), Samsung Z560, Nokia 6600 Fold, and some Sony Ericsson phones (Z770, Z610i, Z555i, W980, W508, T707) are good looking. For quality, all phones have advantage and disadvantage. So, why do still confuse to buy a phone? Consider what design you want and what features you want. Hope this will help. Thank you!

Hi Kean and Tim thanks for your replies i do agree with you about not spending much money on a mobile phone. i also have a suspicious about the xpress music phone and also the symbian i thought that i will not like them. i am kinda convinced about sony ericsson phones. but really i need a phone and have made many searches and haven't decided one till now, i know that there is no perfect one. i do like clamshells but i am worried about the flex problem also in my country the se service is very bad and i don't want to go again with that problem. i do like the w 508 and also the w 995 but it is too expensive. so if you can help me to recommend a mobile for me i will be very thankful the things that are most important to me: is to have small mobile phone in dimesnions and to be light weight. another important thing i want a good build phone and also to be a good looking one. w 995 is a good build one and i haven't heard problems about it till now but it is 113 gram and when in my hand i feel it is little heavy weight. it has many good features ( i do confess that i don't need all these features) but the main problem it is so expensive w508 is a good one but when i compare it to the old Z 520 that i still have. both are good looking z 520 is better in build quality and in keys and even at the external screen. the external screen can show the picture of the person calling and i think this option not included in w 508 since th external screen is only monochrome it is 3.5 years old and se instead of making better things they are cost saving i think other features of camera and sound and memory they all are in favour of the w 508 thank you

ness! I think the camera won't work in the flip (cover) is closed. Most of clamshell phones aren't created to do that. Average people who use clamshell phone, open the flip to photo. So, I think no problem, if W508 can't do that. If you want a clamshell phone that can do this, choose Motorola RAZR2 V8 or RAZR2 V9. They can do this (I had ever read in a magazine). :)

Both of them have HSDPA support, wifi, GPS, etc. Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic is touch screen and uses Symbian 5th edition operating system, while Sony Ericsson W995 is not. For me, I don't like them. I like clamshell phones (no all types).

Hi Ashraf, I would suggest that you read up the postings for W995. I'm sure you are doing it now. If you ask me, I would not choose either one of them for the fact that I do not believe in spending a lot of money on a mobile phone. Furthermore, I would likely not use those features to surf the net, look at my documents or watch a movie. I do have an opinion about the Xpress music phone. To me it is horrible that you can't have animated wallpapers displayed. I can't accept that. Even my previous phone, Cookie could do that. In terms of sound quality, I did not hear any difference between my W508 and the Xpress. I had a mobile phone with the symbian platform before and I really dislike it. That's my opinion.

Ashraf! I think W508's keypad is comfortable or not is depend on how you feel it. I am using old Sony Ericsson Z310i, its keypad (1-#) is flat. For me, it is comfortable. About the battery, I think it last long or not is depend on the user. If you use your phone heavily, it won't last long. If you want to increase its battery life, turn off 3G signal when you don't need it, decrease the brightness display. So many factors that influence the battery life. I had read a magazine. It said Lithium Polymer is durable and more "green" (environment) than Lithium Ion.

Of course, Sony Ericsson W508 is better than Sony Ericsson T707 in music thing. W508 is Walkman phone. And W980 is better than W508 for music. W980 is said as best music phone, that's why W980 is high end phone with expensive price when first come. W508 can be said as an alternative clamshell phone that like W980 with cheaper price. T707 is better than W508 and W980 in design thing with light effect. For headphone, I don't know.

Hi Ashraf, I am fine with the keypad even though it is a bit flat. Having used a touchscreen before, a keypad to me is still the best for writing sms. After a month of using it, I have no regrets still. It functions properly. Dropped it once onto a marble floor but did not experience any breakdown after that. I realized that when it comes to mobile phone, I hardly use any high end features. That is one reason why I chosed the W508. Simple to use, good to look at, highly customizable and great for listening to music. The motion games are quite fun too. I downloaded a few and they work very well on the phone. A lot of people here ask for wifi in their phone but surfing the net with such a small screen is painful! For the kind of money that you pay for high end phone with 3" screen and wifi, you might as well use the money to buy a mid range phone and a netbook. You'll have more fun with both. My battery lasts between 3-4 days with 3G off. On days where I only receive/send sms, make a few calls and play motion games occasionally, the battery last even longer.

You can get custom made styleup covers from www.styleupcovers.com. But don't bother. I got mine made there but the quality of the covers are not good. Even though they claimed beforehand that the colour of the print on the cover will be off a bit if you submit your own photos, mine was way off. What was suppose to look grey becomes brownish grey. To me, that is not "a bit off" but way off. Worse still, it was made is China and I don't need to go further about the quality. One of the covers I have was damaged with scratches. I will send that one back to Imageware (it is the company in Norway who manages the website) for a refund/replacement. Its not cheap per cover, cost me about RM60 (16.70 USD) each wiuth China quality thrown in.

Hi Kean i have tried the slider G705 but unfortunately it is not that good, the keys are not good also i asked my relative about the battery and seems it is not that good also. I am still using the old one Z 520 and i really like its keys and gsmarena has described its keys as one of thee best when it is 1st launched. is the keys of the W508 good or not? i read from the review it is on flat bed membrane as used in G705 and some other mobiles? Hi Ashraf you should really ask yourself whether you want a flip or a slider. I think both have similar weight and the difference may not be noticeable. I prefer the flip for nostalgic reasons. Its been a long time since I last had one. You can't possibly know whether the flip and the keys will last because no such data is available from SE. Ring sound and call quality though i can tell you its good. The ring sound is loud and clear. However, since the speaker is at the back of the phone the ring sound will be muffled if you put it on soft surfaces (eg on the bed). On hard surfaces the sound is reflected so you can hear it loud clear. I think the phone memory will allow you to save a lot of sms as long as you dump other things to the card. I'm sure you can transfer your sms to your PC via the PC Suite.

Yes, definitely. You can watch streaming videos with youtube on this phone only. The downside is it will not play the flv files that you have uploaded from your PC. Make sure you have a good data plan from your service provider or else, you will end up with a hefty phone bill!

Sound is good, better than my Samsung MP3 player. The flip is firm and sturdy. Battery life is good when listening to music. Lasts 2 and a half days with average use (music, videos, games, heavy sms, few calls), setting the screen brightness to 100% and with 3G on standby.

You should really go for the C series if you want a good camera phone. The W series is the Walkman series that focuses heavily on good sound. The pictures taken with the W508 is mediocre.

Happens on my slide phone, before that the candybar phone, and before that a flip phone. Man i tell you, nokia sucks. My friend didnt mention about any blank screen on her flip phone, the T707, so i guess it could be alright and no blank screens. I hope.

I have never heard about the white screen of death before. I came back to SE after many years of Samsung and LG. My phone has a 2-year warranty by an authorised distributor so I like to think that I'm covered. When it comes to buying electronic goods nowadays it's a hit or miss affair. With so much competition going on among the different manufacturers, everyone of them want to rush their products out into the market without proper testing and quality control. I heard with SE, they don't even manufacture their own phones. So SE has even lesser control over the quality of their phones.

You should just go with the colour that you like. The styleup cover is customizable so you can always get new ones made according to your liking. I just placed an order for 3 customized covers. It costs about RM59 each including shipping charges. Its a little pricey but you get to design your own cover and get it made so its unique.

To answer your questions: 1. The styleup cover is made of glossy material and internally, the keypad has plastics with brushed aluminum motives. All in all, it is not as shiny as the ad displayed it to be. 2. There is a cable for PC connection, a 1Gb memory card, an additional styleup cover, a PC Suite/MediaGo software CD and a headset with an adapter with a 3.5mm jack. 3. So far so good. The start up can be slow though. After that, its ok. Don't believe the reviewer from CNET Australia who said the caller's voice is not discernible. I can recognize every caller's voice from incoming calls with this phone. The battery lasts for 2 days when I use bluetooth heavily to transfer media files (mp3, mp4, etc), setting 3G on, sending and receiving many sms, occasional calls, 3 hours of music, played a few videos and changing themes and wallpapers very often. What I like: 1. Having used the LG Cookie (great features, poor processor = slow), it is a blessing to use a keypad again. Writing SMS is much better with a keypad. 2. The threaded conversation feature is good. I can delete sms from a particular conversation all at once. 3. Flash animation for wallpapers. There's no point having a 3 inch screen when you can't even put up a flash file as a wallpaper. And I like my wallpapers to move about with flash animation. 4. Styleup covers. Now my phone can change "clothes" like me. I can design my own covers (and I have done that) and get them made at the SE website. 5. Great sound in the tradition of the Walkman series. 6. Themes Creator (separate download) allows me to make my own themes. 7. This phone allows many customization options (styleup covers, themes, etc). What I do not like: 1. The YouTube software does not play flv files uploaded from my PC. Only for streaming. 2. Not many themes available exclusively for the W508 yet. Only 3 so far (Clarity theme does not count!). Even though other flash themes (eg from T707) can be used, the menu will only display the classic icons and not the flash animation icons appropriate for the theme. 3. No autofocus for the camera. 4. No video recording in 30 frame rates. 5. The SenseMe software from MediaGo does not make sense! (not accurate at all!) I can live with the dislikes still so I am quite satisfied with it so far.

Keypad- not too easy and comfortable to use... because it is too small and too flat (is it call "flat"?)...but after few days should be much more get used with it already... i bought it in leisure mall upstairs besides the living cabin there.. it's original not AP because after i do the survey every1 was suggest me to get the original since it provide the 2 years warranty with only a different of rm 100+ somemore, as according to few of my friends who is SE user.. they think the quality of original actually will be slidely different with the AP set..

Hmm... sorry i didnt notice about that.. but if not mistaken should be G floor... is either near with staircase or escalator (sorry for the wrong spelling)... if u face with those hp stall n the shops is behind u... then this stall should be at ur right hand side... so u just go ask the right hand side maybe first 3 of the stall n try.. sorry for my very bad n blur description for the location of the stall.. i really cant rmb clearly.. if u really dont understand what i mean.. then i try to describe again for u lah =)

Hands-on exp for this one AND similar Sony Ericsson models recently: Looks great only on pictures. Actually, this is one of the ugliest phone I've seen. Cover paint, buttons, GUI all are very ugly in real life.

Flip phones do not require a secondary camera for video call purposes. Flip open to take pictures, close the phone for self protrait and video call.

well d memory card slot of this phone is up to 16Gb and this phone has 100Mb internal memory and that's good and about the design well it's nicer then the previous flip top phone of SE and it's much bigger too that's nice...

The reason why walkman phones will almost never have autofocus again is because they have to push the new C series (camera series) and give consumers two choice. Either you go with a good camera phone with decent media playback or go with great media playback and decent camera. There is no perfect phone. If there is, there would be only one for sony ericsson. The legendary sony ericsson W900i and nokia's N95 8GB.

when i first saw that SE announced the W508 i thought like everyone did: this is a poorer version of W980 (since 508 is way lower than 980), but as i read what it has i realized that it has better content than W980 except the 8GB memory. and if u look at it, the W508 looks better than W980 its thinner with a sharper look and better design. i think the W508 is an upgrade of the W980 and SE should've called it W985

No, the camera has no autofocus. Walkman phones never had this feature but back then the old Walkman phones have it like for e.g. W600i, W800i, W810i, W900i.
