I have one of these phones. Used to use the radio function all the time until I broke the headphones. Don't know where to get new ones as these have their own connection to phone. Anyway, I need to use the phone now as a back-up. Stupid obvious question, probably but as I lost the instructions and don't want to break the phone... does anyone know how to open the back so I can get a new sim card in? Any help woulf be much appreciated - thanks in advance. :o)

Still using it as a music device at home and it does the job well. Had to get the slider connector chip replaced twice but that's about it. The buttons, speakers, mechanical slider, screen, etc. work fine. Just have to clean the pins regularly in order for it to catch the charge. Celebrated 10th B'day of this baby last month :-)

I dont think it is a degeration of music quality.. It could be the case that the fast port on the phone which connects the headset and charger etc, might have accumulated dust and hence not properly connecting with the headset when inserted... Try to clean the inside of the port without breaking anything and connect the headset properly... Similar thing happened to me couple of times and a proper insertion of headset in the port made it work seamlessly... I'm using W830i almost since the same time and it didn't let me down till now in anything...the build quality is awesome and still looks brand new, thanks to the brilliant matt black shiny finish... and none of the current walkman series phones matches in that department...

Hi, mayb you would want to use a similar phone frm ur frnd and then copy his phone and figure where the settings and do the same on ur phone. I mean,go by the pictures as u say you dont understand the language. Hope this helps. :)

Completely Superb phone using since it was launched, working flawless, till date no errors, i update software once a year, so that phone remains trouble free, has good music system built in it, and camera is not ok-ok, it's good, has a strong battery power, provides backup for atleast 2 days, slide is very smooth, has a good GUI, has a led flashlight also for clicking pictures at night hard to find in nokia phone,if the phone is still available i will recommend it to everyone because masterpieces are not made every day. heads off and thanx to Sony Ericsson

well it's a great phone in my opinion... mine fell many times but the navigation keys haven't cracked :) the bad thing is though, the silver walkman writing on the face (on the bottom of the face plate), fell out :( guess i'll just buy a new housing :) overall, great phone :)

I've been using this phone since Oct '07 and i never ever had any problem with it, not even an error or any disapointing case. it is a awesome phone, the sound quality is great!so clear and loud!camera is ok (not good bad not bad also). The negative sides are the speaker is in back, so when you put it you almost can't hear it rings. And the "joystick" is easily cracked!just take a look at any shop who sell second handphone, you almost find this phone has a cracked

i've had this phone for two years now, and i must say its one of the best i've ever had. i had a boy spill a glass of water over it and it didnt break. it has really good memory the only thing i might say is bad about it is if you take pictures in the dark (even with the flash on ) you cant see what the object it, other then that ive been extremely happy with this phone.

Hi friends , i am using w810 before 2 years and now w830i for one year........... in my sense w810 have treable sound and low volume.. and in w830 it have a base sound ......... and have more sound..... and headphone is very good................ and like w810 its have both infra and bluetooth............ and in video clarity... mp4 is more better than 3gp in this w830........... anyway i am very satified with this mobile........ only problem is a lack of internal memory....... that is 16mb....... but that is not a problem if u have 2gb card ........ and in video camera it not have autofocus...... . . The main advantage is this 100% entertaining mobile with Track id facility ..... very fast software........... high speed browsing......... and the design is really superb............ the screen size is big with solar reflection....but the another problem its price very high when compare to another mobile..... thatswhy many people dont prefer this mobile.............. it is a entertaining and executive mobile....... and a really solid mobile............. but u want to care of the body panel....... w810 have scrach proof .... this w830 is easy to get scrach.............. the whole thing in this in phone is cool. un fortunately i contacted virus during usb conection. the cell phone got restart on its own and some pics in the memorystick corrupted. i'm considering to reflash the software but i've had to many notes i saved in the callendar and kinda hard to erase all that notes. is there any one who kindly share information on how to remove or copy the whole notes into the memorystick. please dont hesitate to reply me to my email [email protected]

This one has bigger screen and its slide, and has 4mb less than w810, w810 doesnt have bluetooth with A2DP. I prefer this one better than w810, but both are good, specially cause just few cells have flash

I really don't understand why this phone is rated so relatively low. I have had it for six months already, and think that it's truly great if not fantastic! It has all features that you may possibly need (including a flashlight and FM radio). What I must say is that especially compared to Nokia phones, SE, in particular W830i, remains charged for a long time! The design is fascinating, and it really feels good in your hand. Mine is black color, but this model is also available in white, which is also rather attractive.

I really don't like the fact that if the phone becomes unlocked, it is real easy to know the internet button and it will NOT kick you off for inactivity. I have had mine for over a year now and have connected to the internet for 42 hrs in total, I bet 1hr of that time was actually me wanting to use it. Yes my Phone provider did still charge me extra for the internet usage on top of my monthly tarrif.

hey guys u r confusing w830 n w850. There is no as such difference but w 850 is 3g n w810 is with edge. Now If u ask ab8 the difference? w 850 dual camera one infront of mobile to do video calls n has high speed internet but it depends on your network either they provide u 3G or not. but if they r providing EDGE as here in pakistan then u should prefer w830. w850 3G speed=384kbps max (Internet) w830 Edge(class10)= 236kbps max (Internet) So u can see the comparison, but it all depends on network u r using, either they provide 3G or EDGE. Hope it clears the view now.

In my opinion here's what I think the pro's & cons are: Pro's: 1) Loud Speakers 2) Camera has auto-focus. I'm not sure though if I'm just not using it correctly but I can't zoom in camera mode, only video mode. 3) Charges very fast and stays charged for a long time! 4) Very durable. Haven't dropped it but threw it once because I got pissed and it didn't even break even if it was slid open. 5) Speaker phone is very clear. 6) Music sounds great on it and it plays loud. Cons: 1) For some reason, I have a hard time catching signal. My bars stay 3/5 bars to none at all. And at times, it's full signal but it says emergency calls only, when it says that, I can't make a call or txt at all! 2) I can't even use the interent because I have to do all these stupid "set up internet pprofile" thingy. 3) I can't even view a picture message sent to me because it has me connect to the internet first. There may be more pro's and cons but I'm not trying to point everything because I know that someone too will have a different opinion. I like this phone but I'm getting ready to let it go!

Well this phone has HSCSD and W850 doesn't. As i understood, HSCSD is another network which enables u to transfer data at high speeds, kindof like 3G or EDGE. The W830 has both EDGE and HSCSD so now i'm asking, do those networks go hand in hand? and since the W850 has no EDGE or HSCSD, does that make its capabilities to transfer data at dependent on 3G alone? Finally, since the W830 have both EDGE and HSCSD, and the W850 has only EDGE, does that make the SE W830 better than the SE W850? I'm also curious about the speakers, which one has the louder speaker? or are they the same.

to Alex: The W830 has no 3G (so you can't make video calls) but it does have edge. The W850 does have 3G and a front camera for video calls but it does not have edge. apart from that they are the same

I used k750 for 3 years and i just bought w830 2 weeks ago, the phone is preety good, but it's alittle slow. and the camera is really bad compared to k750.

i just bought this phone 2 days ago for replaced my old w700i... this is my score for this phone: Design:8/10 features:9/10 camera:8/10 performance:8.5/10 price:9.5/10 Overall i really2 love this phone.... -good sliding mechanism -very loud loudspeaker and headset if you listening music and radio -good 2 megapixel camera (it's comparable with my old w700i) off course it's lack of autofocus -very2 complete features(A2DP bluetooth,infrared,cable data,1 GB memory card include and many more....) -never hang and fast enought when i use in multitasking -nice quality display but not the best... -at least the price in my country(indonesia) is very2 cheap... only 190 USD... WOW... i really recomend this phone to everyone who search of non 3G music phone... it's far better from my old w700i and off course w810i(except the camera) and other non 3G music phone like nokia 5300(this phone is really suck and can't compare with w830i) and many more...

positive side of w810i is u can zoom the camera and negative side is u can not use stereo bluetooth headset (like HBH DS970, its really cool check it in web site) in it because it's bluetooth does not support A2DP. positive of w830i is it's bluetooth has A2DP and negative is u can not zoom it's camera.

I have read all the 200 comments and almost all of them have liked the phone and praised it. But the voting results dont show that. I say dont be fooled by the voting results, its a w850 without 3G. Thats all. Then it means that it deserves the Mark of w850. 8.4/10 overall.

I own this baby and its a great phone to work with! Possitives-Nice camera, looks good, fast boot up, Pretty loud speakers(Way louder than Nokia Any,not as loud as w550i though),And the earphones are bliss with walkman mega bass effects!!!Battery life is too long, nice backup.buttons are purrfect and phone fits into your hand perfecly... Negetives-No 3G,Video recording not that good, Cant save lots of sms, My opinion-Its worth every penny you have....Go for it! :-)

I had both the w850 & the w810. w810 was better for me. w850 is bigger&heavier and doesn't have the "play" button on it's side. It does have a better screen though.

This phone is really good.it's like carrying phone+mp3+FM together.sound effect is also gud with headphone.output sound is a bit weak but v can bear with it as its having everything gud.it's having gud picture quality,gud processing speed(while taking snaps),various audio supports. only cons i can put is that it's not having word document or pdf reader :(:(.. can anybody suggest on to above,i mean how to get this 2 also.

this phone has a nine look.but it lost many features when compared to nokia phones.you can't zoom when u r taking a pic.it does'nt hav autofocus also.so better u buy N73 than this phone.both r of same rate.

hi everyone, I have the w85Oi and I use Tmobile in San Francisco CA and love it the battery life is great, I get about 3 to 4 days of course using the stereo bluetooth cuts audio playback by 1/3 time off audio playback. also has flight mode which extends audio playback to 8-10 hours standby and 4-5 hours talk time and about 7-10 hours audio MP3 music also it pairs excellent with Bluetooth Stereo headsets as it has bluebook 2.0 with A2DP and AVRCP

I have been using this phone for over four months now and pretty satisfied. Will rate it 9 on 10. It has all the features that this range of mobile should have but what sets it apart from the flock is its stylish slider look. Everytime I slide open it, ppl around look in amazement. Camera is good, speed is fine and display is large. Further being a sony walkman phone it's a treat for music freaks. Finally it could have been a bit smaller but still much better than nokia N series that feels like a brick.

imaad: if you bet on K800's features, then you are a fan of taking great pictures. this phone is also good as it is feature packed. the smaller dimansions and very intuitive UI of walkman 2.0 greatly answers the big questions of choosing either Ipod or SE walkman. also the Pro Duo memory card is alot better has more capacity 4Gb compared to the current 2Gb of MSMicro. and the price is $100 more expensive than K800 but is explainable by it's card capacity...=D

This phone has been perfectly designed for the South East Asian market. We dont need 3G here, but EDGE is now being introduced. This is a very good handset. The only thing it is missing is autofocus :( Anyways, a very good work by SE. Keep it up. I am waiting to buy this once it is available. I hope the price isnt too high.

this one doesn't have a 3g while w850 has one.. 3g is where there's another camera in front where you can use it for you to see the person you are calling or when your taking pictures you can see yourself by using the 3g and video too..

message kurt. you should buy the se w900. it have much more features than the 850 and more internal memory. autofocus on camera for the w900 and none on the 850.the navigation keys for the 850 is real stress. i dont think you will be disappointed.

this handset it stated to have 3g video calling but yet it is not 3g compatebile so you need to make you mide up wether it has it or it doesnt as your specifications need sorting out gsm .

oh this phone is really amazing, with 1GB included card it really rocks, but the internal memory shouls also have been at least 50 mb or so. anyways overall a very good phone, i would like to buy it asp.

So, HERE'S THE DEAL.The w850 has ONLY 3G.NO EDGE(EGPRS).Hence the 2nd cam, which some think of as a light sensor.The w830 has ONLY EDGE, NO 3G. P.S.Hope they release the right phone in the right markets.Bcoz the w850i has already started appearing in India which is aeons away from 3G services.

SE!, i love your interface, i love the quality of your fones. but this is like... your 50th 2MP phone. quit making so many similar models, thats why the prices of SE phones drop so rapidly. i like that you are keeping the phones away from symbian, smart move! but just make more well-rounded phones please. this one has no AF, k800 has soft speakers and the video is crap. i'm not gonna comment on the design, cuz everyone has diff tastes, but i do like samsung and LG's chocolate design.

W830 is a mobile based on edge connectivity, W850 is for 3G videocalling, streaming and downloading.. SE decided to separate this two for the sake of those who can't use 3G/Edge in their countries so they won't burn out much money... main difference is the edge connectivity and the lack of 2nd video camera... SE could you please bring back autofocus and macro for the w-series? everybody speaks of autofocus as a need... you can do it folks,..

To the comment above me... if you want a 5 or 10 megapixels cam, then go look for a digicam then. The technology, no doubt will be in the near future, but resolution for digicam pic are far more superior than pics taken by handphones. Cheers!

Like someone said EDGE is basically a different TECHNOLOGY .. slightly older than 3G you can only use one of the two .. PAKISTAN has EDGE providers and NO 3G so it would only be practical to buy the 830. untill it was announced i was sad as i couldnt believe how this phone would manage OTA music withut EDGE ... needless to say now i am relieved. but at the same time it means i have to wait even more before i can get my hands on one ... maybe ill buy the D900 meanwhile ..

Just picked up the white model of this phone. It is still labeled a W850 here in Hong Kong and is selling at the insane price of ~500USD. (no tax, thank God) So far, I love almost every aspect of the phone save for 3: -A2DP controls are somewhat overrated. My plantronics 590 won't start music back up once I manually stop it. -Custom ringtones don't get piped through to the A2DP headphones and there is no option to enable it. -Sliding the phone closed does not end a call, nor is there an option to enable it. It would be nice to search tracks by genre, but as it stands, you can use the keypad to jump around, which beats the iPod, if you hate scrolling all day long. Not sure that the premium over the 810 is justified with just A2DP, a bigger screen, and Walkman 2.0. I wonder if I could have gotten stereo music anyway, just without track skip controls? Seems to be the only advantage.

3G stands for third generation. A 3G device means it is compatible with 3G networks and 3G does not mean secondary video call camera. The reason 3G phones have secondary video call cameras is to enable video conferencing, which requires high rate of data transfer capability, which a 3G network and device can provide. But that is not the only function of a 3G phone. 3G provides high data transfer rates and that can be used for any application where high speed is required like surfing the net or downloading to your computer using the phone as a modem, downloading music and videos from websites/wapsites and these functions do not require secondary video call camera, leave alone main camera. An example of such a device is M600. Wake up and smell the coffee

UMTS (3G) and EDGE are rival technologies just like CDMA and GSM respectively. By launching pairs like W850/W830 and K800/K790, what SE is doing is offering you a choice of which data technology you want to use instead of trying to cram more technologies into the same phone. When you are with a service provide, you are going to get either 3G or EDGE, not both at the same time. SE gives us technology which works flawlessly, unlike the leading Finnish manufacturer who tries to give you the impression that it is giving you a feature-rich handset but fails miserably in everyday use in terms of implementation of the technology. It tries to give you impression of being Master of all Trades but actually is Jack of None. So I hope this stops the endless ranting about no 3G/no EDGE and let us applaud SE for being practical in their application of technology.
