  • Read this. It's so sad that all he said is true. Sony phones is like a secret agent in the marketing world. Outstanding abilities and yet it only impresses people who actually look for them. Even the new model (M5 Dual) is featured in a Bond movie, Spectre. I saw the phone's box when I was looking for Sony phones, unsurprisingly.

  • Nahh. 4k res display was restricted only to the top model even amongst its most equal siblings. If it has the specifications that you said the name wouldn't be Z5 Ultra, instead it'll be Z5 Ultra Premium and it'll cost you a leg (I'm only kidding on the latter). Realistically, yes it'll use SD820 following Sony's tradition of having more processing power than most direct rivals in terms of screen size and resolution, which will be Quad HD if Sony manages to lower the power consumption of the high resolution down to Full HD level of consumption, otherwise Full HD still looks gorgeous in my eyes. I would say 18-20 hours of calI, 10-12 hours of browsing, and 10-12 hours of videoplay should be a good minimum to aim for (if Quad HD), while of course if with Full HD normally it should be much longer. But it is Sony we're talking about here, the masters of battery endurance in the smartphone age, apart from M*to Dr*id T*rbo and L*n*vo P series, so I'm sure those minimum numbers should be easy for Sony. By the way, back in the dumbphone age, the champ of battery endurance was N*kia, if I'm not mistaken. I won't say anything about cameras as I don't use them much, but I do agree Sony should at least add a flash or two, helps during power outage, blackouts, camping and the like. With specs like that, RAM should be no less than 4GB, as the big screen allows multiple small apps to be open simultaneously, remember that multitasking requires a lot of RAM. Everyone else leaving the 16GB minimum internals over for 32GB, so are we. Then of course, comes along other Sony flagship standards: superb built quality, dust & waterproofing, stereo front facing speakers, and the best connectivity options available.

  • The Z4 Ultra will never be released, the Z5 Ultra is expected to be released in March 2016 with the s820, 4K resolution and 23mp camera.

  • I hope Sony would release mid-range version with a massive battery. Battery capacity/life is one where Sony lags; in this category, Chinese phones dominate. This model is making up for it but other models suffer horribly. I would buy Sony if battery capacity and life gets better. Keep it up, Sony!

  • I really hope it IS going to be 6.4" as I will 100% buy it if it is this size. I've read many other reports which say its only going to be 5.9 or 6.0 ...... I hope not. Would LOVE a 7 inch slim bezel phone but so far no one has made one, just so called phablets which are 13 cms wide and cant be held in one hand.

  • You wake up! They already look great. It's not just triluminos Engine.They have Bravia Engine, X reality Engine and now Live color LED. Human eyes can't see pixels more than 400. So why put a 2k? It'll make the battery drain faster. Useless.

  • Design flaws?!! Are you kidding me? Sony's design is excellent. And Xperia Z Ultra won Best of the Best for Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014. Sony bezels are not bigger than the bezels of Samsungs. Maybe you think that way because they are relatively square designs which make the bezels look more prominent. It's not a problem for Sony to make bezels thin. Bezels help when you are playing games and watching videos by lowering the risk of dropping the device. Sony's devices look sleek, modern and unique. But Samsungs? No.

  • Yes Sony needs to do an updated/improved version of the Z Ultra, excellent phone/tablet crossover. Improvement's... 1, Stereo Speakers - its a multimedia device! 2, Waterproof micro USB - I use a dock as I don't want to keep opening the USB cover. 3, QI wireless charging capabilities! Its 2015 already. 4, Slightly narrower bezels especially top & bottom. Obviously a newer version would come with new processor & graphics and a better screen. Trilouminous is good enough for me as is 1920x1080 resolution on a small screen (can u tell 1 pixel from the next ? Not even on a 720p phone screen can anyone see 1 pixel) so 2/4K is just overkill & taxes the CPU/GPU more, but some will want it for bragging rights even though they do little more than call/text & play candy crush in 4K - WOW ! Thanks.

  • Using Z Ultra since June13. Brilliant phone. I am sad that this Z4 ultra isn't a "significant upgrade". 6+ inches screen should have 2k S-AMOLED screen in 2015. Sony needs to wake up to the fact that it's triluminous lcd is no match to amoleds and samoleds out there. It's still a rumor so I think there is still hope... Hoping for the following 1. 6+ inches 2k display 2. At least 4000 mAh battery with fast charging 3. top of the line processor at release SD 810 is ok now... 4. 4gb RAM, at least 32gb ROM 5.   • Agreef to kijana Em also using galaxy mega 6.3 and still loving it. No lang with SD 400 and 1.5GB ram. It fitts in my pocket easily just because of thin bezels and a compact size. Now fianlly we are here. Zr ultra, with high premium spec with larger screen

  • Currently Im using the Galaxy Mega 6.3. I like how thin the bezel is. It makes the whole phone smaller. Its time for Sony® to make thin bezels in its big screen phones. I did not buy the Z4 because of the big bezel. It made the phone bigger with a low screen to body size ratio. Sony® can fit 6.44 inches in the body size of the Galaxy Mega 6.3. Its best for Sony® to delay the release of Z4 ultra than to rush its release with the design flaws of its predecessors.

  • Please remember these specs are still all rumours, we shall find out hopefully at MWC, if not then sometime in March/April, the true specs so no point in speculating. We all know it's going to be better than the Z Ultra, that's obvious, but apart from that we can't really go on GSMarena's specs as these are not official yet. There's no point in people saying it's not going to be good enough, that's a little silly. Any how I have the Z Ultra and that is such a brilliant piece of tech, it's design, looks and display are best around, it's performance and hardware specs are also great, so to imagine that we will have a successor to it very soon, is great news. Personally I shall be using this till August 2016, that's when my contract finishes, so we may have a Z5 Ultra by then, who knows.

  • anyone ever think that we dont even need any "hole" in our phone, when we really want the "waterproof" phone?! why there's, until now, a phone that completely "holeless"?? what the hole for?? we had qi/wireless charger,, so why we need a hole for charger?? we had wireless/bt headphones too,, no need more holes for 3.5 jack. we had wifi/bt/nfc etc to transfer data/file, we dont usb holes anymore, although the connection slower than usb.. but come on,, how huge the file you want to transfer from your pc vice versa?? 1TB?? NO.. at most 1GB.. when u use wifi transfer at 10-12MB/s it almost the same using a usb.. but the big problem is in debugging,, JUST for developers,, but i still sure theres a way to debug over network.. for we,, common user,, the HOLES is unnecessary. that's how we really had a completely WATERPROOF PHONE w/o worrying the seal broken

  • 7 inch device can be a phablet, like the Huawei X1. Another thing is that even the X1, inspite of the very small bezels, is a tad too large to be carried around as a phone. I have owned it and tried. The original Ultra was a perfect hybrid size-wise, it fits to pockets and can be used as a phone, yet it is also a full tablet. Really looking forward to the Z4 Ultra and hoping that the bezels would be a bit smaller than in the first Ultra. With the 6,4 inch display and up to date hw, it will be the king of phablets and the best carry-on mobile computer, phone and camera.

  • Not a huge jump up from Sony Xperia Z3 Ultra. Lollipop - yes. Wish to have better camera with night vision aperture, dual LED flash. IMHO tech spec-wise the industry is now exhausted. We no longer need better hardware, but better software. PS: Almost forgot: Sony, please remove this huge bezel, God damn it. Reduce it three times maybe.   • I hope this one comes true, I have a Samsung Note 3, Nokia 1520, and have had Sony phones before. I have been waiting a phone about 6.5 inch screen with a great camera. To all those that say way to big, I have watched many of my friends go to the new iPhone 5.5 inch screen. Try it you will like it, the larger screen works great for navigation, playing games, movies and many other things.

  • I always choose the Ultra over the flagship because I love the 6.4" size, the Z4 looks so silly with those big bexels surrounding a small screen, but what really annoys me is why they always give the Z4 much higher specs than the Ultra and even the compact version gets a better camera. Very aanoying indeed.

  • That's total rubbish, please read up what is the definition of a phablet, they normally range in size from 5.5 to 6.9".

  • I think any device that's 7 inch's and over is still termed a tablet even if it has normal 2G voice/messaging capabilities, so that would include the Blu Studio 7 and the HP Voice Tab 7.

  • Wrong, maximum size for a phablet is 6.9" not 6". Z4 Ultra should be same size as last time, it's not big at all, in fact I find the Z Ultra quite small now and I've had it around 4 months, so for my next device I may get the Z3 Tablet Compact. The Z4 Ultra should really have had a QHD resolution and maybe even the 4k resolution plus the option for 64gb of internal memory. I'm sure most people will be happy with the camera with the led flash included.

  • I really hope these specs don't come out to be. Everything is well and fine except it should have: 4 GB of ram, 20.7mp with optical image stabilization, and a stylus. That would be my dream phone. And Sony really need to market it well this time, people are always complaining of something but truth is Sony devices are actually very good, and I can attest it from personal experience with several devices from many brands.

  • Sure if you want a front speakers (high quality) the cp will be huge. NO for the Desire 820 & yes for the Evo 3D :) so I know the meaning of a small screen in a big body :) A small but a good update in GSMA You can find the body to screen ratio (display >> Size)

  • It is way too big. It's not worth it I believe. The length of the original Xperia Z Ultra was more than 16 cm. I have a Desire 820, and it is huge. The Z 4 Ultra will be much bigger.
