Hey peeps, my friend gave me this HTC T-mobile phone with no sim card or micro sd card.I charged it and turned it on and it just stayed at a menu that tells me to slide or tap and it has a lock symbol on it and it wont do anything and i want to activate it and use it. it is a windows phone, so basicly im asking what i can do to this phone to make it work at least for wifi. can somebody help me please

Did you reflash the radio? The stock HD2 ROM might not have the right radio. I'd reflash the newest T-MO US radio. 2.15.50.14 I think.

For Those using HD2 for GPS purposes look for iGO 8 for Window Mobile 6.5 and for the Android users look for Copilot Live Pro.

i presume that if there is another procedure for the tmobile hd2 they would mark it on the xda forums, otherwise the flashing is the same...i have htc hd2 and was instaling android on it recently..it had seperate instructions for tmobile hd2..hope this helps

The ROM is where the operating system of the phone is located. On the HD2 you can change the original OS (windows mobile) with a customized version or even a different OS, like Android or Ubuntu Linux. Just google HD2 ROM and you're done :)

I'm posting this from my tmous hd2 running android froyo with htc sense (and it is running immaculately). This phone is so versatile, I still have windows 6.5 and have the options of installing ubuntu and soon windows mobile7 ; thanks to the large community of developers working on os for the phone. this is the best phone I've ever used in my life. While the galaxy s is one if the best phones around now,i still prefer the hd2 as I never get bored. In addition a lot of galaxy s users are still awaiting froyo but I already have it and I'm not even using sn android native phone. the default minmo 6.5 os is ok, nice features and good battery life. it does freeze occasionally and it does not have full flash 10.1.but you can solve that by dual booting into android 2.2. I'm getting the best of many worlds and I'm loving it.

I had the same problem with custom roms, I tried flash to latest t-mobile rom but only can set alarms as ringtones, windows media player dont work too and other applications related to windows media player. I think the htc sense user interface causes these bugs...

Hi, HD2 does not display Japanese language keyboard but our travel destinations are in english eg. mt. fuji, aomori, kyoto, osaka and yogohama etc... Google map is worked well via local WIFI and most destinations are in english. Petrol stations in japan are highlighted as well on google map. The only setback of google map is 3D car navigation, unlike we initiate Telenav in New York. It works wonder and I love it very much with voice guide. However, Telenav is not available in overseas. Hence, we have to look for other applications inevitably on hd2 on overseas travelling. Which app is suitable for japan travelling other than Telenav ? Thank you. Regards, Isaac

Just got this phone and it is amazing I think the LCD is better than rated on this model because I cannot see any color banding when playing back video and there is so appearant erros in the color blending on the display. one thing that really stands out is that this phone is really good at not dropping calls and the call quuality is excellent. If you like a phone with great features and great call quality.. this is the phone to get...also you can run android if you so choose.

Have you ever had the HD2? Didn't think so, I have had the Tmobile UK version for about 6 months now and it's great. My work iPhone looks like a primitive dinosaur compared to this beast! Windows Mobile is great and highly customisable, hardware and screen is amasing but apps let the phone down a little IMHO. I met a sales man yesterday who has the new iPhone 4, he complained non-stop about the reception and that he never receives calls only voicemail.

The phone specs make it the most amazing phone besides evo4g...as for WM...hate it...had this phone for two weeks and sold it just because of WM...but the camera was amazing...call quality was amazing...signal strength was decent...as far as lag there was none but the phone did freeze numerous times which was annoying leading me to sell it...overall wouldnt recommend it unless there is a miracle and someone manages to port android to it

You can get any customized (as per your needs) version of WM from XDA-DEVELOPERS site and after that you'll be fine. I have custom cooked ROM on my HD2 (Energy ROM) and it flies, never hangs, freeze or lags!!! This is THE BEST phone that I've had and definitely an i-Phone killer!!!

This phone is one of the sexiest pieces of phone hardware I've ever seen. The biggest problem however is Windows Mobile. You can customize and tweek it to your hearts content but the underlying operating system still sucks. Lag, freezing up, text messages dragging the phone to a halt and piss poor memory management. Even closing all the programs on the phone doesn't help unless you reboot 30 times a day.

Phone does freeze frequently, even when you go into task manager and exit all the applications that are running. It overheats and crashes when you recieve a text while you're texting out. Ridiculous, they should have a recall. I sold mines after a month of using it. Sure, the features are amazing, but we need a phone or an OS that can run them smoothly. Maybe Windows Mobile 7 will do a better job.

This phone is a failure. WM OS is awful. Phone freezes constantly, the update from Tmobile doesnt help. Good luck sending emails and texts without having to pull your battery at least 3 times a day. This phone needs android. WM isnt doing it for me. This definately isnt the iphone killer, this is the iphone seller. flop!

Ive had a my touch for the past 6 months or so and love the os and was a bit skeptical about getting another windows phone with all the problems ive had in the past....all i can say is "wow"!!! if you were unlucky like a buddy of mine and got a bad apple just exchange it. the battery hasn't been an issue for me. the slow downs and freeze ups have. after a couple of mods it seems much better. i wonder if these are software issues and not hardware issues......has anyone out there cured their HD2's running problems yet?

no, it was a even swap. by the way, i removed the sd card and 90% of the issues have stopped (freeze up,slow downs)also per htc i removed the messaging icon from the sense bar. the phone is fast.

I'm not a fanboy and I'm not a hater, but the iPhone 3g DOES suck. This is based on my own personal experience with it in comparison to many other devices that I have personally used on my own. So its definitely just one man's opinion, but there you have it.

I have to say that althought the battery is just 1230Mah, this phone holds a charge much longer than my Nexus One did and it certainly lasts longer on 3G than my Iphone 3G. I get a full day and then some on this battery. Go figure.

Scary part is the battery, Standard battery, Li-Ion 1230 mAh This wont last nearly half of what they specify. Impossible to do with a display of that size and processor of 1Gz. Better carry plenty of charger cables where ever you go.

ive had the iphone twice, blackberrys, nokias, samsungs, the htc hd and many others. i never got a phone from the carrier and always bought them off the internet. ive been through about 25 phones in the past two years. this phone is by far the best phone ive ever used. and if your phone lags, do a hard reset and it should stop.

I bought the HD2 when it was released for t-mobile on the 24th. I've also had the Euro version. I can say that they both suck and they're both lag constantly. HTC should only make their sense UI with android os as their base instead of crappy windows mobile. This to me killed the HD2. I really hope the HTC Evo comes into a gsm variant.

Yes, it would be great if the htc hd2 had android. I'm just praying and hoping HTC broadens their view and see dollar signs if they make a gsm version of the HTC evo. As of now the hd2 is obsolete compared to other better mobile OS's out their. Windows 7 will probably end up like palm web os. Consumers won't catch on and it'll be in jeapordy.

I was about to buy a HD2 unlocked international version - costs around 600-700 dollars at USA. Wondering if I can buy a T-Mobile or the Supersonic unlocked version of that phone, costing less than the original one.

@willdog The HD2 will have 3G in the USA only if it operates on T-Mobile who uses 1700/2100 MHz bands for 3G. AT&T users will only have EDGE connectivity with this smartphone

The reason they don't have the same features is because The FCC regulates certain features within the phone... Phones in Euruope usually have better features because of all the regulations in the US

This US version has no WiFi Router, but the one version launched in europe has WiFi router, i dont understand why they take out features.
