  • If it wont let you download anything, the easiest thing to do would be to restore it to factory settings/OS. I would suggest you take the time to upgrade to a custom rom, the phone will probably be more stable and useable

  • Hahaha...the amazing thing is that it has the same specs as the Nexus S. If they would have had the decency to drop Gingerbread on it, it would have resolved tons of issues.

  • do not buy this phone it is a half baked pos the keyboard is retarded they made the space bar tiny and removed three alts for shiz like smileys question mark key(witch could be done with an alt) has two shifts and search keys (redundancy much ?) the buttons feel horrible and are positioned wrong when you have the phone in landscape the jack position is in the way the volume rocker is upside down the camera lens is obscured in media room room the keyboard is not used to search for items until you pressed a search button then touched the search bar and it is a useless filter anyway

  • The only setback would be the 4G. T-Mobile operates at 1700 / 2100 which means Vodafone needs to operate at that same signal in order to get 4G speed. More than likely, other providers do not operate at that signal which means browsing will be on EDGE.

  • The android development section on xda developers is dead. The whole page is discontinued roms. I'm tempted to just sell this phone on e-bay for $80 bucks and save up for a LG myTouch Q. At least you can install Cyanogen on it. Let me know if anyone is interested.

  • Well...just heard T-Mobile officially retired the Sidekick. They aren't sure if this will mark the end of an era. There goes my hopes for Gingerbread. :-( At least I have the GenericGinger rom installed with the stock 2.3 launcher. Sigh.

  • You can install a custom rom to make it LOOK like ICS, but as of now, Gingerbread has yet to be released by Samsung. If you feel like living on the edge, you can try out the Ice Cream Sandwich 2.0 Domination at the xda-developers web site.

  • Luv the sidekick. Great battery. Greater WIFI. call quality is superb. I like the spacing between the keys for texting. Amazing screen quality. Only thing i don't like is the menu. Not every intuitive.

  • I've had the phone ever since it came out. It's laggy, battery is okay, and it's ugly. BUT I love this phone depspite all the bads I rooted the phone and overclocked it and now it runs like a dream. I have large fingers so the qwerty keyboard is 2nd to non. I was think about getting the mytouch 4g slide but i hated the keyboard. It would be awesome if they remade the G1(G2 is crap) with the hinge and full 5 row keyboard running Ice Cream Sandwich

  • I'm using one of these in Vancouver, Canada. I bought it off of Seattle Craigslist. You can unlock it for free (The code is hidden in a file on the phone if you know where to look) and then it works anywhere. But to use the data features you need a provider that operates on UMTS 1700/2100 Mhz. I'm only aware of 3 in North America. T-Mobile, Wind and Mobilicity. I'm on Wind and it's been great. Very good phone. All the power of the Galaxy S it's based on, but with an amazing keyboard.

  • This new "sidekick" is a sidekick in name and hardware design only. Sharp and other people where the one's who designed it before, using the Sidekick Danger OS for it's operating system. THis new "sidekick," the sidekick 4G, is an android phone, designed, and manufactured by samsung. And people who currently own sidekicks are being told that they will eventually need to upgrade because they will eventually be getting rid of the data servers the real sidekicks run on.

  • I'm about to purchase one for use in Australia. If you have been using android for awhile and know your way around the OS you can unlock it yourself. Unlock codes have already been found on Samsung handsets by opening files in a Hex editor and finding the right Hex string. Also there should be any issues using data on any handset aslong as you have the right APN settings. I have a T-Mobile G2 with data working in Australia without any issues with my carriers APN settings.

  • I have the Sidekick LX, the previous generation to this 4G model, and I can confirm to all that the data services will NOT work in another country besides the USA. My phone can only send and receive calls and texts...that is it. Do not get your hopes up that it will work for you in another country. Outside of USA, its purely a phone to show off with.

  • as far as i know when a phone is assigned a carrier it is usually locked which wont allow any other sim to be used besides the one assigned to the phone...but im preety sure there are ways to unlock it.

  • Nope this sidekick has 4G capabilities, yes it may be 4th generation made by a different manufacturer (Samsung), but it's not stuck on 3G and EDGE like the previous sidekicks made by Sharp with the Danger platform

  • OMG!!! I just got bored with my Sidekick 2009 and now they release this whole new 4G!!! :X Definitely thumbs up for this device for the new Android OS! Just one concern is that it will be a slide up phone right? Then I will really miss the 'sidekick' original design! :( But actually it is true that Samsung can't handle the old design so they change it into this to keep the touch screen safe. Anyway, it's a good sign though!
