I had this phone for over a year, after some months the phone restarted itself and stuck in a boot loop. I took it from a service where they fix it but after a couple months the screen went white and after that, it went black. Now the phone is dead and I will never ever buy again any Alcatel smartphone... I am really disappointed

Looks good & priced cheaper. Performance is ok. battery life is decent, the good thing is that with fast change you will need 5 min to get 20% more. if you are e regular user than without any problem you will have one day without charging the phone.

Yes you can change the battery. Remove the small screw near the sim card slot. The back cover has clips around the edges so you just have to pry the back off... just be carefull not to loose the magnets that holds the cover in place also the sim and mem card cover.

I have an idol x 6040A that's ths single sim version. This version has a memory card slot. If you have the dual sim version 6040D then you will not have a memory card slot because they replaced the mem card slOt with a slot for a second sim card

Camera excellant. Audio excellant. No memory card slot. Use only phone memory. Back cover cannot be openned just like Iphone. As soon as I upgrade the software, phone have several problems: have to wait couple of minutes to switch on the screen, and a minute to switch it of.

I've been using a Moto G3 for 5 months now. It has Gorilla glass 3. My old Idol X had Dragontrail glass. The G3 has lots of little scratches on it and it has been used more gently than the old Idol X. The old Idol X was in my pocket every day, including -20C weather and even dropped on the floor from over 1 metre - it has no scratches at all! The G3 picks up fingerprints all the time, while the Idol X was very clean and clear. Conclusion: Dragontrail glass is much, much better than Gorilla glass 3! On a head-to-head wifi file transfer and download, the Idol X was about 50% faster than the Moto G3. However, the Moto G3 has a faster processor and it shows when running apps. I liked my Idol X so much that I still use it for youtubing and as a media device. Games look much better too. I can't wait to try the Idol 3. It looks like an upgraded version of my beloved Idol X. As far as i know, you can't change the battery on this phone. I'm not sure why, but apps on this phone show that battery is not 2k mAh, but only 1k mAh.

Hello there. I use this phone for more than 8 months and it's working fine. Beautiful slim + clear screen (big resolution). Battery last for less than 1 day with active usage (about 12h). I use it mostly for writing and reading books, for music and for internet. As an audiophile, i can say that sound is bad, but normal people will find it normal - so don't worry about the sound, it's okay for listening while traveling or running. For normal games it's fine, but some better games have low fps - don't worry about it if you don't play games. For internet it's perfect. *ucking 2gb ram can handle so many open tabs. Hope it was helpful to someone.

Hi ZorgZorg, Sorry for the late reply. After the repair, my phone is back to the default 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. So far, the phone seems to behave just the way it used to be (touch wood!). When I sent the phone back to Alcatel repair center in Feb-2015 (I bought in Sep-2013), I told them that the warranty period was already over but they asked me to leave the phone behind for inspection since it could not be used anyway. They promised to inform me about the repair cost after diagnosis within the next 3 days, to let me decide whether it is justified to proceed with the repair. In fact, they did not call me as promised, so I called them up on the 3rd day to follow up on the status. The repair center told me that the motherboard was suspected to be damaged, but they could not specify the probable causes, since the technician who diagnosed the phone did not provide any details in the work order sheet. The center could also not confirm the repair cost over the phone, but told me that it would cost about RM150 (~USD45) to fix based on previous experience. I agreed and went back there 1 week later to pick up my phone. To my surprise, when I picked up the phone, the service center told me that I did not need to pay anything for the repair. There are many possible reasons why Alcatel would offer a free replacement of faulty motherboard beyond the warranty period, but I guess I don't need to make any speculation here as long as my phone is back to normal. Due to the last unpleasant incident, I dared not upgrade to 4.4.2 KitKat anymore, despite I have no conclusive evidence to link the crash to the 4.4.2 upgrade...

The build quality is amazing the screen is amazing ... I would highly recommend to buy htc. They know how to make phones. LG is great value for money. They do everything well but nothing amazing. Alcatel can't be compared to these brands especially when you install kitkat upgrade and it destroys your chinese motherboard. Pass your way. You won't regret. Buy a one year old LG instead you won't be disappointed. HTC always keep a high price tag but for good reasons.

I have the idol x 6040A and I haven't had a single issue with it. Battery life huge, crisp display, phenomenal speed etc. Still using it and it out performs every single phone I've put it up against in terms of offline software processing. I will say that the Alcatel software itself sucks so i recommend installing a third party launcher for better performance. Try Go Launcher for increased speed and crazy customization. Haters gone hate!!

Hi Dexter1882, I had exactly the same problem with my alcatel idolX. Worked perfectly well until I decide to do the upgrade to 4.4.2 which actullay never worked and left the phone totally hectic and in android 4.3 version. Anyway. I wanted to know what the repair center told you and how much it has cost you. My phone is obviously out of warrantee as I bought it in December 2013 and it just crash yesterday. Also I was thinking to find a class action as many people seeem to have the same problem. Thanks for any little feedback you could give.

I have one Alacatel Idol X since 8 months, It was used by my dagther for personal use. It works fine two or three months, 4.2 Jelly Bean android. After that, begins to rise temperature, then camera autofous doesnt work anymore, sometimes it seems to be crazy with the display. Conclusion: it is a real shit, dont buy it.

Have been using the Idol X since Sep-2013 without major problems. After the 4.4 KitKat update in Nov-2014, the phone was getting a bit unpredictable, many times reboot without obvious reasons. In Feb-2015, finally the phone shutdown by itself and not able to reboot anymore. Sent the phone for service 2 weeks ago, seems to be motherboard failure. The Idol X is a very high specs phone at mid range price, but I am not sure about its reliability (after repaired)....

Idol X+ does not have an expansion card slot. For me this is important. My Idol X has a 32GB micro SD in it that can hold a lot of music and photos. By the way, the Dragontrail glass with oleophobic coating is amazing! Very few fingerprints and marks. It is very easy to clean with a cloth - much better than other phones I had.

@techperson34 Yes it does. I've tried it with google maps and OSMand. It can take a long time to find a satellite without wifi or data, but once it locks on it's pretty good. I have used it for travelling.

if you dont know the difference between 6040 and 6043 (X+), then it doesnt matter which one will you buy. X+ is newer, better and more expencive than 6040, but 6040 is great phone too...

Try to open you phone. The problem with that is the power/lock switch that is probably stuck. That happened to my idol x and when i opened the phone(youtube video as guide) i did some tinkering with the lock button to make it unstuck. Hope this helps

you can try boot to safe mode. during boot the time when alternate 'alcatel onetouch' and 'smart move' are out try press vol+ and vol- together until your phone boot into safe mode. then go to system setting>apps. try do 'reset app preferences' then reboot

updated to 4.4.2 . New features:- camera support built in QR scanner, zoom function in picture gallery.. nicer and sharper icons, slide down menu include screenshot button. Does not speed up the phone or makes it snappier maybe even slowing it down a bit. Will use it a few days more . Battery life seems the same .

I found out that my phone will automatically overheat while I'm opening data (without using it) recently and battery finish very soon as twice as it used to be. Update the phone two days so and this morning I found out that my battery can goes up from 13% to 63% within 5 minutes and when I'm not charging it, the battery drop by 2% per 2 or 3 sec. Anyone can answer me what's the problem? Battery problem? One more thing to add on is I seldom charge the phone over night. Not more than 5 times.

When restarting try push both volume up and down at the same time. You will boot to safe mode. Go to app in system setting try do the reset apps preference. Then reboot. Mine work like that.

My idol x has been experiencing shutdown or restart to a point i am unable to use the phone. Not sure what is the problem. It all started when my battery was running low while i was using Waze. then suddenly the phone shutdown. So i connected to my charger and tried to switch on. I managed to switch on but it hangs at loading screen. Hold the power button for hard reboot. Waited for it to restart, then totally hang at the boot screen. Gave up as i thought the phone is finally screwed. Went back home and put it to a charger over night and slept. Woke up in the morning and tried my luck to switch on the phone and to my surprise it works!!!! Used it until my one point of time i forgotten to charge and my batter was almost gonna die. The problem reoccured again. Tried all possible manner to a point of total factory reset but to no avail. just stuck, hang at the initial boot screen. Gave up on it and put to charger and went to bed. and the next day, switched on to try my luck and IT WORKSS!!!!! So i came to a conclusion it could be something to do with the batter? or the software? I dont know. Is anyone experiencing such a problem? Is there any Alcatel Administrator here?

I thought all kitkat came with option to change dalvik or art in developer menu. And our idol x (4.4.2) used dalvik initially and you have option to change it to art in developer menu.

Apps include all those common Telegram, WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat, Twitter, Skype, FB, YT, Chrome, K-9 mail, Waze ... So far no hang/freeze, definitely much smoother and snappy with ART runtime. Battery consumption didn't notice any major difference. I'm happy with this dualsim phone, been using for almost a year now, am happy to see official KK release :) If I must complaint, it's the small battery and too bright/saturate colour. But not a big deal to me. I've use a lot of dualsim phone, I have to admit this is 1 of the best so far for me ;)

Guys I have idolx+ for last 6 months fone is excellent but problem in have is my touch has broken and when I took the fone to service centre they demand form rs.8500.00 to change the display, guys any one have any other alternative. Don't bother with Alcatel, it's not totally their fault. Older Mediatek cpus are poorly supported by Mediatek itself. I know they are a few beta kitkat roms for Idol X but they are full of bugs, just be patient if you don't change your phone eventually. Anyway kitkat is overrated.

An today it said me there are some udates and I allowed the updates. Now it frozen. I can not restart or reboot. With aother phones it was possible to take out battery for a restart. here not. I see that it was a mistake to buy this phone...

You probably have to replace the phone, it is defective. I have Idol X for 6 months already, no single issue mentioned. No overheating at all/ even when I use it as GPS in car for hours (hooked to car's power), it runs just slightly warm. I optimized it with GS monitor app., used static wifi IP, it keeps power for more that 3 days a single charge with mediocre use. So it can't produce lot of heat at all.

There is an existing update to the Idol x + to kitkat 4.4.2 (India) I have updated it, and it works perfectly fine. There are small issues mainly with the UI. (1. The color of the network signal is always white irrespective of what you choose. 2. The camera widget does not work from the lock screen.) There is another update... Currently it's in progress...

it hasnt been a year since i owned idolx and the problems keep coming from auto shutting down, auto restart,battery overheat,there is a white light on the top left but it is not charging,lagging when im on 3g/4g but mostly the selling point of the phone is the camera, lightweight,friendly user handling and that is it. idolx also still with jelly beans and report shows on their web that this phone might not get any upgrades. but that is still unsure as if now only what's confirmed lollipop released few days ago and this phone is still at jellybeans. i hope the review will help others to reconsider other phones. it a great phone. but not for primary phone as it will trouble you with so many trips to service centre. might want to have a look at idolx + or idol2

Did you manage to vet it to turn on? Mind would freeze Anand i would hold tge power to turn it off and it would work for a bit and it would freeze all over again. It would freeze on the title and then it said its unresponsive and to reset so i would click reset but nothing happens. Restarted the phone and now it won't turn on, just a black screen wuth the white light in the corner when connected

you can update your idol x through flashing to get 4.4.2 version of kitkat BUT this rom is not for alcatel but for TCL brand. same hardware, same features, but different brand. i installed it on idol x. the rom was good. but i cant install root to it and cant install google apps. still testing it though. the rom is stable and good for daily use.

I even sent the phone back to the service and they replied that it has no problems and works fine. It is nice to hear that letting the battery to become empty helps for you. No you do not need a screen protector. The Dragontrail glass with oleophobic coating is very good. I carry it in my jeans pocket every day and there's never a scratch on it.

I'm from the Philippines, I have sent inquiry to Alcatel global site, asking them if there is a possibility of Kitkat upgrade, they replied it is still on going development, I think there is no hope of an upgrade due to its weak mediatek processor MTK6589!, please Alcatel make it happen, this is one of your flagship phone! And please fix some of the bugs on the phone like Battery drain percentage is unreliable, very slow display on inputing pattern/number password, dark pictures when press screen for camera to focus, make it a little bit faster not controlling the processor temperature limited only to 39 degree celcius thereby limiting clock speed, make it until 45 or 50 for which the processor can still perform well! Or if this unit cannot be ugraded, give us option for those still on warranty to swap it to your new model idol x+, adding only a few bucks, paying and picking it up to your official service centers here in the Philippines!

I just did my update now and it took approximately 15 minutes from beginning to end. It seems to be working alright but I can't find anything on what it improves like a version FAQ. 02001 was working good and this one is supposed to improve the user's experience - this is from the little explanation that popped up on the screen during the update.

I have used an iPhone for 5 years now, and decided to switch to android with a Samsung Galaxy S3. BIG mistake...after only 3 weeks I was ready to toss that phone in the garbage. The speed is unparalleled, the battery life is absolutely fantastic, the screen resolution is amazing and the camera takes the most perfect photographs. On top of all of this, the Alcatel cost me $0 up front since its a relatively "unknown" brand. Step aside, Samsung, HTC and iPhone...as soon as Alcatel gets its name out there, I am sure it will become a flagship brand. 11/10. 6 stars. 150%. Golf claps.

Hi Zabe, if you're looking for a value for money device, but don't mind some cheap material or a little lag here and there .. then you should consider this phone .. but if you have a bit luxury of money, I would strongly recommend you go for Nexus 5 (DONT BUY ANY PHONES FROM OEMs, EVER .. they almost always do hang after a little while) .. if you can wait a little bit longer, around 2-3 months .. you can see by end of year there will be a bunch of new phones, like Nexus 6 for example .. if you must buy now, and from the set you have selected, then definitely i'll go with HTC One M7 .. and most certainly NOT SAMSUNG .. note: I am not saying this is a bad phone, I am saying that the best android phones are always the nexus line ..

This is a nice handset to use. I purchased it week back. However I am having issues with respect to use of mailing applicaton "Good". Can Alcatel technical team help me with this. It pretty often displays the message is "Unfortunately, Good has stopped". I purchased this phone for business use, however with Good not functioning it is really a tough time. It took about 2-3 hours for the new update to download even though I have fast connection (10mbps) - maybe because their servers are overloaded and it took not more than 5-10 mins to install I think. It does look a bit better with this update. So far I've noticed that transitions are more smooth (when you shift between the screens and when it rotates), you can change between home screens, they also introduced that drag-app system or whatever the name is. And camera works a bit better as well (smoother). There are small changes made to notification bar (you can switch between 3 levels of brightness and auto-brightness without it popping it out for example). The only problem I've encountered is the notification bar lag - it lags most of the time when you swipe it up or down except for when you use Facebook app and some other apps, couldn't remember which ones. The only logical reason I can think of is that maybe when you run those apps more cores are active and there is enough power for notification bar to be swiped smoothly.

This phone is junk. I have had to get replaced twice due to the battery dying and phone not turning back on. It is designed so you cannot open the phone and take out the battery. You would think in that case they would use a quality one but no they have a real crap battery in this thing they die all the time. DO NOT BUY or you will regret.

Finally i managed to update alcatel touch one idol x + to 4.4.2 kitkat after 4 attempts. Couple of times it gave my "Data Error" . but finally at 5th attempt it get through...Changes have been done on Mail Client / Memory , Battery Mgmt / Dial Pad etc. But finally happy to get 4.4.2 Kitkat on phone.

hi, i got my idol x about two months ago and i love it! the only problem is that last night it ran out of battery life and died, and now it will not turn on, no matter what i do. i tried holding down the power button, holding down the power button and the volume up/down/middle, clicking on it, taking out the sim and sd cards, changing chargers, etc.... -the white notification light stays on if its plugged in but thats it. no noise, not even a glitch in the screen. whats worse is i bought mine slightly used from a bell store and i do not think its under warranty... I received this update but it requires a lot of space so I reset my phone but after resetting my phone and installing the update out says Google services needed to be update but it said I had an insufficient among if space when I clearly had enough space so I'd only test it if you have a SD card so you won't have to reset your phone

After getting this super phone I found one issue that irritates me: from time to time it will undo a new folder and delete the apps in it. New apps will be removed from folders they are put in. The apps are not uninstalled but this issue means having to add them again to the appropriate screen. Apart from this issue, I've had no problems with this smartphone. Though I recommend turning off WiFi when charging the phone when it starts overheating.

Have had the phone a month now with zero problems my if I use it like a phone is meant to I get 2 days out of the battery if I use it like I do (emulator's more or less like a PC) I get a full day did you condition your battery appropriately straight out of the box ? If not that's more then likely the cause for all of you who have battery issues as for it heating up and ghosting I have never had that problem maybe call your carrier before your warranty runs up ? But again that could be an issue with not conditioning your battery

I live in Ontario, Canada and I purchased this phone a few months ago. I have this phone since 1 year now, the hardware is good, quality is great, but NONE UPDATE TO KITKAT YET. Kitkat has been released 10 months ago, and we still have to update. Why having a good hardware if the software is out of date? I DO NOT RECOMMAND anybody to buy this phone (or any mediatek chip, cause they wont be updated), buy any phone with a Qualcom chip instead (cause they are all updated very fast), or a Nexus if you are addicted to updates like me.

I had a similar issue and I found a solution ...mine used to starts apps on the screen by itself as if there was an invisible hand touching the screen and that was annoying me till I removed the live wallpaper and after that every thing was okay

My Alcatel the screen doesn't freeze, my issue is when it gets warm after 2 mins of use, the screen glitches right out, I'm not able to text, or move screens or even if I don't touch the screen it flips out and self selects things, the only way I can get 2 more minutes of use before it glitches again is by turning the screen off and back on again. I'm so annoyed even more so now cause it took almost ten minutes to type this message. Is anyone else having this issue? Btw this is my 2nd Alcatel handset, the first one froze so bad that they just sent me a new one, the old one and this one both had/have this screen issue.

Got the same problem. With Virgin Mobile in Canada. Phone screen freezes and goes black. It has happen about 5 times in two months. During text messaging and on the net browser. Also data connection is on but cannot surf the web. In all cases I had to shut down and restart the phone. Coming from an S2 galaxy this phone sucks. I bought it cause it was slim and light with a 5" screen. Virgin mobile have provided no help whatsoever, their reception with this phone in buildings is non existent. I called to complain they told me that they do not guarantee reception inside buildings. On the the next snow storm I will go out in the snow to make my call. So in summary Alcatel and Virgin Mobile both suck.

I guess you didn`t get the point , am talking about the colors of any program , home screen ...etc , when you pull the notification bar down then pull it back , colors in home screen wallpaper , widgets , icons looks very bright then adjust itself back to the normal degree of the color. The same happens with opening an app for first time , or volume scroll the orange indicator looks bright when first appear on the screen then adjust back to normal !!! ...etc

Actually there is another app called SuperBeam | WiFi Direct Share and in the description they say ( Sharing with devices that do not have SuperBeam through web interface.) but never tried it before so maybe you can try it and tell me . Another solution ; Keep the APK file of Wifi shoot app on your device and when you need to share with other device simply send the apk through Bluetooth( if the APK could be sent ) and make him install it then start using the wifi direct :D .

I Have a strange problem with my screen colors and it occurs only at screen brightness starting from around 30% to 100% full brightness. When i open any application or drag the notification bar then back to the main screen I found that the colors at first is too bright for a half second then the color goes back to a normal degree according to the brightness i set As if the processor is two slow to adjust the colors. Dear Mazmaz , The Wifi direct is supported but there is no pre installed app on the device to use the function ! like some HTC devices , anyway download Wifi Shoot app , it is free from play store , install it and you can use the function . I have the 8gb version. There was 5.5gb available to the user. So I assume the 16gb version would have 13.5 gb. That's plenty for apps but not a lot for multimedia. Unless you need the dual sim version, I'd recommend the 8gb single sim version and then add extra memory.

i´m in love !! what a phone comparing to all the other big brands !!!! ok discharges a bit fast for me, but from 10 to 100% in 37 min reload i think there is nothing faster eaven by carcharge !!! the fdh video couled have a better imagestabilisator but in the darkest night i made some impressive videos from lightnings totaly sharp and the lightsensor has no problems with the sudden overblending - realy rocks ! perfect it would be if alcatel would change to a real protectiv screan - wouldnd mind to pay 100 bugs more ! scratchresistend for a 5 inch screan is not enough . my first one broke from uper right corner to middle left side, and it was not realy a slide of a impact ! problem was that the touchscrean didnt work anymore ! but i lve it so i bought me another one - happysong !

No it came with 2001 update already and I haven't done anything for "battery tricks" I use the phone heavily all day with WiFi and Max brightness occasional gps lots of texting and still have about 50% battery which is good too me.

I really like my phone. Fast light good picture, battery life could be better. My first one lasted only 2 months, they sent me a new one maybe I got a dud the first time around. We will see on this one. The problem on the first one was it would keep on restarting till battery died then I charged it and it would not restart. Don't know why but they sent me a new one. Thanx for your comment on Gravity Screen. Like I said: could be firmware dependent. What version are you on? Another possibility I'm thinking of is the individual settings one uses in the app: there's quite a few of them, each linked to a particular sensor of the phone (proximity, movement, ...). Perhaps one of them sets off the issue. I did play around somewhat with the settings before uninstalling the app, but to no avail.

Gravity Screen is an app from Play Store. It is a great app, but is not compatible with the Idol X I found out: I had the problem of self shut down, and in the reviews on Play Store, I read one other person with Idol X had the same problem. I had to uninstall the app, and now the problem has gone.

Thanx. So initially, like me, you got offered 01001, even though 01001 was already on your phone? Doesn't make sense to me. Either they made the application such that it always downloads & installs the version that is on their server, regardless of whether or not it's the same version as on the phone, OR: not every '01001' is the same. Is that possible? I get the idea that might very well be the case: There's little things after the upgrade that made me go like: 'Hey, that looked a bit different before'. But I'm not sure 100%. Is it possible that not all '01001' are the same?

Hi Omer. I have the same issue you are facing now. Did the upgrade for several times but still with the same 01001 firmware. Only in January the firmware upgrade did happen and i am on 01002 firmware now. Meaning that your place still dont have the newer firmware. But doing the upgrade, It never stuck anywhere and the phone boot up normally..

Question: How many of you have successfully used the Alcatel Mobile Upgrade software? I tried yesterday for the first time (to see if an upgrade was available), but got an error in step 3 of the process. Phone wouldn't boot anymore (it kept showing the One Touch Idol X boot logo on and off). I managed to fix my phone by first flashing a Russian rom I found on the internet with Flash Tool, to get a working phone again, and then re-running the Alcatel Mobile Upgrade software. This time, it was successful. However, the firmware is still 01001 :-)

Had one till yesterday when the screen unfortunately cracked. Not the first, not the last in the world of mobile phones. Phone is OK for the common user and in my opinion the greatest fail is the camera. Absolutely terrible! Didn't expect such from a 5mp device. Today went to service and asked for the price of repair. Surprise! More than 100� (500PLN) to make it worth again and availability of parts is scarce moreover. Maybe in France, where this mobile comes from, 100 something � is reasonable for a touch screen which by the way comes together with the electronic module... It's not sold separately or as cheap as for instance Nokia Lumia's. So all round the money for value is OK but if something goes wrong such as cracked screen or water/humidity ingress you better have some replacement around or prepare your wallet. After this I'm done with Alcatel's. Will be looking for a more popular mobile phone company with more friendly cost for spare parts and repairs.

Hi ched, I too bought the phone in october last year in sabah, malaysia. after eagerly waiting for it, i grabbed it the day it was launched at a retailer's shop. Must say, used it for 5 months and no regrets so far.. worth every penny.. battery is a concern, but the beautiful screen and its good feel in hand overpowers this drawback. though i need to charge it regularly(twice a day sometimes) but the overall experience is awesome. We'd the same concerns after watching the review video. I guess after the update to 01002, its answered. The update is indeed a good one. But it dint matter to me for the app drawer n all so much..since i'm using go launcher app. There's plenty of RAM available for running all kinda apps. The update added options for the cam..but i liked the tap shoot feature which is now replaced by a longer press now. I hope, we get a better experience with the kitkat update which some users have shared, is bound to happen sooner or later.

I do close all apps regularly. I just don't want to have to use force (no matter how little) to press a button, when there's also soft touch home buttons. Plus more wear&tear for physical buttons (ps That's why I'm testing Gravity Screen app at the moment, to reduce the number of times having to use the physical on/off button to bring up my lock screen or to lock it). Anyway, yeah, it's all a matter of personal taste, I know some people prefer physical buttons (although, like I said, I can't understand why :-)).

it depends on how you use the phone. phones now are just like computers, you need to wipe your RAM once in a while and close all your recent apps for time to time otherwise they will slow down and there for give you a bad experience with the product. (which you probably didint do) I prefer physicle buttons for the only reason that if EVER my phone was to freeze, its waaaaay easier to get it to work again if you have a physicle button. that way you dont have to force shut it off by removing the batery... which is not good for your internal and/or external memory.. And i have monsteriouly big hands and i keep accidentaly hitting the touch home button and it pisses me off when i do that.

I have bought this FULL PRICE for 249$ here in Canada. little bugs here and there but nothing to be alarmed. The camera is AMAZING. The screen is AMAZING!there are a couple downfalls though, the phone needs to be "professionnaly" opened to change the battery, there is not physicle home button and the rear speeker is soso. But besides these little downfalls I LOVE it! VERY GOOD buy for that price. If you dont want to buy a 650$ phone but want some equivalent or almost this is the phone you need to buy!

Hi Omer. I just downloaded 01002 update into my phone. This is a good update. Camera is tweaked (faster shots), camera setting added few more option to tweaks. There is a drawer button with this new update. And few more changes. Go ahead with 01002 update. I dont encountered any battery drainage issue, but everything seems running smoother now. I don't know if that would make a difference, my phone came with my current firmware pre-loaded. I did download the PC software to backup the phone, but it wouldn't connect. That's the only annoying issue I've had with the phone.

Yeah that's what I figured (not all regions getting the updates at the same time). But what I find weird is I've seen several updates being mentioned here over the past few months, and I'm still on the 1st one (and not just me, also a colleague of mine who has the same phone). What else do you want to know? It's my first superphone so I can't compare it to the other big players like the nexus 5 or the S4. I can tell you I love it and it's an amazing phone for the price. I haven't had any problems so far. It's very fast, has a great screen, and is easy to use. It's super light and thin, and the battery seems fine to me. I doubt it's as fast as some of the other phones, but it's a fraction of the price and I really don't notice any speed problems. I've played Real Racing 3 and the game play is smooth, but the cinematic sequences are a bit choppy. 2D games and web browsing are very fast. There's no LTE, but that doesn't bother me. My only complaint: the One Touch desktop software downloadable from the Alcatel website won't connect to my phone. I don't know why. But connecting the phone to a PC by USB otherwise works fine and I can transfer files, so it's not a hardware issue. I'm guessing it's an issue with the One Touch software. So if/when I want to backup my phone I'll have to download a different backup app, unless the Alcatel software gets fixed.

It's the single sim. Yes, I'm very happy with the battery. I was worried after reading some bad reviews about the battery, but I have no complaints about it. I'm not the heaviest user so maybe it's not the right phone for people who plan to be on it all day. But for my purposes, I can easily get 2-3 days out of it. I just downloaded real racing 3, so I'll update about how much battery that uses once I've played with it for a bit.

Don't know, haven't tried. I've only had the phone for a week and a half. I don't do much gaming. I last charged it 24 hours ago and since then I've played Angry Birds Star Wars for about 20 minutes, surfed for about 20 minutes, and sent a handful of text messages. I'm now at 73% battery. The 20 minutes of Angry Birds went through about 6%. On the weekend I used an offline map program with GPS for 1.5 hours (mostly with the screen off) and went through about 15% of the battery. I'll update if I do any other heavy use (likely this weekend).

I'm pretty happy with the battery, but I turn off wifi, data and Bluetooth when I'm not using them. With light use, just phone and texting, I get 3 or 4 days. With more heavy use I've gotten 2 days. I haven't tried running it full-out but I imagine it would last about 5 hours.

Well I got the latest update done. Fixed some bugs such as weather crashing issue. Notable upgrades were app drawer, camera functions and lousy durian app store which I think it is useless. Now the biggest problem is the battery life has dropped significantly which could not last more than a day!!!!!! I often turn off data and turn it on when needed and could last about 1.5 day and now less than 24hrs! What a shame!

Hello. I have had this phone for about two months. It is awesome. I am not into games, so I will not write this from a gamer's perspective, but, man this phone is awesome. The screen is crisp and beautiful, the phone is light and elegant. It is snappy and fast and hasn't frozen once since I got it. It has lots of RAM, and 90% of the times I checked I had about 1GB free. The only downside is the cam. It is good enough outdoors, but not very good indoors. Hey, do you install custom rom? I found that LeWa OS is officially supported on TCL Idol X and the feedback of it is good, possibly even better than Alcatel's stock ROM. I havent tried the ROM yet but it is beautiful(screenshots). Also if you haven't notice the Idol X+ which is launched this month in China shipped with LeWa OS preinstalled. the site is in Chinese so maybe you can google translate but dont worry i can confirm that the ROM has English language packed

Hi. I want to discuss about rooting this phone. I rooted my phone using kingoapp.com. the root is easy and the apk is good with supersu installed after update. One big problem though, never ever install xposed installer apk because phone will never wake up past the start up screen. I install greenify donation, install this apk to get the greenify donation going, reboot the phone. Alas, huge mistake. Cant even go into android reboot mode using power+volume up button. My solution is using alcatel upgrade tool to reset the phone. This happened to me twice to find out the culprit..

As I know, the Mobile Upgrade tool by Alcatel will do a clean install of the latest firmware available only if your device is of older firmware. I would recommend it if you are having the camera problem like the others have. But if you are already on the latest firmware I don't think you can do the reinstall firmware thing using the tool. (Anyone please point me out if i'm wrong, also Can anyone who have used the Mobile Upgrade Tool by Alcatel tell me that are the apps i.e Gameloft games, AVG, Shazam, ...still remain/included or not? Hi, you can upgrade your device via PC by using the Mobile Upgrade Tool provided on Alcatel official site . Make a backup before upgrading using the PC Suite also available on the site or other backup tools as after Upgrade via PC it will restore to Factory Settings(all apps will be lost too)

Hi everyone. I'm on 4.2.2 01001 firmware. For owners having issues with the camera flash, try this tips. I have this problem before, so what I did is disable the touch screen to capture in setting. In low light, I touch the screen once, so the camera will autofocus(note:my iphone5 did terrible in a completely dark situation. Hehehe), then I touch the capture button(need steady hand because the flash will light up twice). Vwaalla, the pictures is good and nice. If this worked for you out there, do give me a response. you are mistaken it was 4.2.1 0100 and thare was 3 updates first 4.2.1 1001 and 4.2.2 1002 then the last 4.2.2 01003 and that last one made the camera very bad because it takes the photos without light even if the flash is on so the photos are completely dark and i know this is software issue but it means that the engineers in that company are very stupid

Idol x has never been updated so far. It is 4.2.2 out of the box, and it doesn't have problem you described. Update to kitkat is expected in 2014.

I have recently bought this phone. I have never used any brand other than Samsung in mobile phones. But thie Alcatel IdolX is impressive. All things are good about this phone, excpet there is a an issue which I am facing. When I login to my facebook account, the images & videos doesn't appear. It keeps on surfing and takes min. 15min to show the images and videos in the first instance. Don't know what could be the proble. The same issue is happening when I open Youtube as well. Just brought this phone last Saturday. I'm a HTC addict and I really impress how goods this phone. With 5" full HD display, 441 ppi the screen looks so beautiful and sharp. The 13.1mp camera with face detector working really great. Front camera with 2mp also have face detector.The picture is really clear. But the zooming looks bad. Edit function for pictures remind me of camera 360. Looks great. For calling, the sound is very loud and clear. This phone also pre install with paid apps. Thanks With 2g ram, no problem for me to running many apps. for battery life time, it's can hold for a long day with heavy usage. 20 to 23 hours no problem for me. Usually I'm playing the hobbit 1-2 to hours per day, chatting we chat / whatsapp, facebook. So the battery ok for me. Just swictch on saving mode. With the price RM 999 in Malaysia, this is super price :)

I was really concerned about the battery life before I bought the Alcatel One Touch Idol X, because of all the reactions on poor battery life. I looked all over the site and other sites to find a smartphone that could give me more or less all the specs this one has but with a better battery. Onfortunately no other phone could compete when we look into the same price category (it costed me �299) so i bought him. When I saw him at first it was clear that the screen is way better than any other typical smartphone these day's (even the more expensive ones can't compete), the screen is very clear and sharp and looks good from any angle. The buttons down on the screen are good too, although some people think they're not responsive enough, I didn't have any problems with it. It works fine for me. And of course the battery... I feel like the most of the people out here are exaggerating about the poor battery life. I think that the battery is perfect for normal use. When you use it just for texting and calling and al little apps/internet it lasts up to 2 days. Most of the time, for me it lasts for about 36 hours on normal days... (Note: I switch of the mobile data when I don't use it) I can believe that if you're a power user, using this phone mostly for gaming and gps-apps that it won't last a day, for normal users i would say: go for it, it's a great phone! Very thin and lightweight... For example: On this moment my battery is 27%, my phone was charged 21h10min ago. I called approximately for an hour, played games for about 2 hours and texted like I always do. Something I also like about this phone (it's a detail, I know) is that you can see your data use right in your settings and you can set a limit to it :)

I have a Xperia SP, i would recomend the Idol X if their prices are similar. The SP has a very poor camera which i highly doubt the Idol could do worse in. You gain a larger, higher rez display, more ram and while chipset is likely weaker you won't notice it unless playing more heavy apps. The SP is also much thicker/heavier than the Idol.

Hi, I bought this phone a week ago, and I noticed one problem. Audio and mic stops working after 4-10 hours since last power off/on. I am using android JB 4.2.2. This is very unpleasant problem, since nobody can hear me, and I cannot hear anybody. When I do power off/on, problem dissapears. Is there anybody who has the same issue? Under Display options, I have "orientation" checked (so that the screen will adjust to the phone's orientation). But sometimes, it gets unchecked all by itself it seems, and I have to re-check it. i tried with usb flash memory which was formatted by NTFS but the phone didn't recognize it so I formatted it by FAT32 and the phone recognized it but the same problem happened again when the recorded video reach 2 gigabytes the phone automatically stop recording ......... alcatel should make an update to solve many problems found in this phone

You better not format internal memory. USB flash is good idea, you can try it, but I don't know if it would work.

You can format sd card to exFat file system, it is supported by default on android

It is due to fat32 file system on memory card. If you want larger files memory card must be formatted in NTFS file system, but android by default doesn't support it. Your device have to be rooted , and after rooting search play store for ntfs..

You are right though, there are two issues i encountered. The battery percentage sometimes going down so much when rebooting the phone and the capacitive buttons needed to be press correctly to get action. Bought my unit a week ago. Like the bright and crisp display , weight and looks. Downside is now my keypad (home,back and menu) are getting unresponsive especially when it is lying down flat . The only way to recover is to plug in a usb cable or put the phone upright. Service centre says they also received a few complaints but no definate solution at the moment. Hope my replacement unit wont have this problem.

It does have a more reliable battery performance than the idol X. But you know what, power bank maybe come handy in emergency time. So, i dont just rely on phone battery to take me through the day.. Thank you for your reply, well, I'm not gonna play games much, maybe once in a month or something, but I want to make sure as I carry this phone with me around, lets say a day of city exploration (which means taking photos or occasional video) along with checking my fb, messages, browsing the Internet, I don't wanna start worrying around 4pm that how much of the battery is left and stuff like that. Hi there. I owned this phone since 7/10/2013.to this moment, the phone still serve me well. No complaint about lagging and stutter. You have to be concerned abput the battery life though. Prepare your self a power bank because heavy usage will flattened the battery in couple of hours. Light usage is no problem. Go ahead for this phone. I accidentally came across this beauty in the shop where I was checking out the Galaxy S4 mini and HTC One mini since I couldn't convince myself that 5" phones are for me due to their large size, but the moment I laid eyes on Idol X's screen, wow, I was taken away and started having second thoughts about whether I should act out of the box and give Idol X a try. The screen is slightly smaller for lg. Honestly i dont own anyof these two phones but i guess the camera is ok for both. I have an xperia sl with 12 mp camera and before a software upgrade, it was also not tht good. Only now it works well. Btw lg got nfc U can check the camera quality for lg phone in this website, just click next to the camera specs

Basicly phone very very nice,fast enough,very good build quality,very good pics and video ,some issues with soft (like battery percentage drop after reboot only once from 55 to 3% after reboot again back to previous state,and with non Alcatel launcher wallpaper don't keep resolution),don't know why fm radio and player works all the time in background( even when you kill the process it's back again).Only one minus,battery its a craap.need to be charged 2x a day if you a average user and I'm not a gamer.but batteries its a common problem with all smart phones,IMO manufacturers should focus on extend battery life to min 2 days instead of putting more cores or stronger GPU. We need STRONGER BATTERIES!!!�300 it's almost fair price for thing like that.

this phone blows galaxy s3 away. It has much better display. On lowest brightnes it performs better than s3 on highest. Built quality very very good, has titanium frame. Real racing 3 works fine! Very fast and smooth UI experience. Built in browser works better than firefox,chrome,opera,puffin or any other i tested. On some yt video, you can see that idol x performs better than s4(yes, galaxy s four) when it comes to heavy web browsing(full desktop sites). S3 has slighty better camera, but if you are just looking for good camera phone,go for nokia lumia. I am very pleased with alcatel idol x, and looking forword for future alcatel(tcl) flagships.

Hi guys, this is my latest review of this phones. So far, this phones really satisfied me with the performance all around. One thing though, the battery capacity is the down side of the phone. I need to charge at least twice a day when doing heavy task. Light tasking give you full day usage. Luckily, i have powerbank with me when going outside. The moral here, buy a powerbank. the thing is they're not sure whether it's a software issue or hardware. i've told them that already troubleshoot it by myself to run the device on SafeMode and also reset to factory setting. The problem is still there and after send to Service Center for diagnostic and the technician just said this is well known issue for idol x and we just upgrade the software and normally it's ok. however, they're still not solving my issue and it's look like they just do a reset factory setting which i already done it. this is very irritating as the problem since the 1 day i bought it. Poor service and quality..that's the only i can say. till now they just asking me to send the device or diagnostic...but im questioning them....till when? :(

I just tested myself: I started at 41% and did 4 reboots. Each time, it came back on 41%.

Did anyone having issue with the battery? After restart the phone, battery percentage drop a lot. Then try to shutdown the phone & wait for a while, the battery back to normal again. Example : Before restart, Battery percentage : 50% After restart, Battery percentage : 23% Shutdown & wait for a while then on the phone again, battery percentage : 50%

This is an ideal mobile phone for its price, minimal setting for camera doesn't a big issue as it snap very good pictures. Plus, it's speedy...just the capacity of the battery is upsetting as if you re a heavy users, often charging is needed. Overall performances is GOOD!

Your dilema should be solved quite easily. Do you need dual sim? Yes - then go for Alcatel. Do you need only 1 sim? Yes - then go for Nexus 5.

Hello I am considering this phone but I am a type who use a phone for a long time an example three years for my current phone. Is this phone worth the money? Does the minimalistics of the camera settings are really a loss compared to the other phones with the same price? Also is 16GB enough as i never used an android phone before. I am so torn over buying this phone after watching the review on YT. Is the minimalistics of the camera really disturbing? Im planning to use a phone for a long time so is this recommended? Getting by fine. I'm not a heavy user though.. I only use it for making some phone calls, some browsing, camera, facebook, whatsapp, mail, etc., wifi and bluetooth are always active, and my battery lasts from wake-up to bed-time. I usually have around 20% left at the end of the day. I always charge during the night.

Remember this phone have full 5" display. Some other sets have the same size screen but keys like Home, Back and Option buttons are on the display not on the body, thus giveing you the usable possibility of 4.5" . I have idol 6030d ,belive me everyone who see the set in my hand could't stop saying oh what a beautiful set it is! This is a little big version. Remember every smartphone need an overnight charging . For giving you the possibility of a normal full day using.

The same here! Notification bar expands without touching it and then the setting page opens automatically. Sometimes from the home the launcher switch by itself to left or right page.. It behaves as if there were an invisible finger that touch the screen. Maybe we have just to be patient and wait for a minor update.

I am using this phone for couple days and i must say this is great surprise. I get this phone via my curier just to sell it because I have Nexus 4 that is really great. But strange thing happened , I will keep this phone :) ! It is simply better than Nexus 4. Display, speed, over fell and look is just great. Good work Alcatel :) !

Hi, as I wrote it is a car page with embedded YT videos,FC did not help, I stoped using that page for news, and from that point on, no issues at all. The phone works just fine. So again I can just confirm, with this phone I am really impressed, I used to have HCT desire, than Motorola Razr, now with Alcatel 6040D, so far the quality/ performance/price ratio is just excelent. Anyone who thinks of buying it, I really recommend it. Tomas

Im pretty impressed with this phone. Everything I need in a phone are there. No problem with it so far. Clarity of the display is very crisp, fast processing time, fast internet, camera, EVERYTHING is giving me the best result. Keep it up Alcatel.

Having this phone for a couple of days, so far I have to say I am impressed. Build quality, feel, display, system response, everything is really good. Regarding the battery, I do not know why people are complaining, in the morning when it is fully charged, I can survive without issues until late evening with battery to spare. And for that, I have push notifications to 3 mail accounts, skype and Lync running all day, making a few calls, BT active for 3 hours, some browsing in the evening. A little bit of games. So so far no complains here. Just one weird issue on one car news page with embedded YT videos, the phone starts streaming the data, and want stop even when chrome is force-closed, until I reboot the phone. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? BR Tomas

Hi guys. I want to comment about the camera. I mentioned the camera take a couple of second to snap pictures. Well guys, fyi this happened only at low light condition and night time because the camera needs to focus and lit up the subject before snapping pictures. When the light is good, the camera perform better and the pictures is nice and well done. I tried both my wife iphone5 and this phone, i can tell you when there is no light, idol x perform better in taking pictures. That is all for now. Hi guys. After spending my time with this gorgeous, i made my mind to hold on this gorgeous and make it my daily driver. For a couple of days, i encountered just one reboot because installing an app the processor cant handle good enough(guess the mediatek chip to be blame). Opening to many apps doesnt slow down the phone. Again, the camera is a pain in the butt because no setting and snapping pictures take couple of second. Having S4 and iphone 5, this camera irritated me. The pictures and video taken is just average. Couple of my friend is in awe seeing this phone and thats made me delighted. Forgot to mention. This phone can do native 3g video call. A plus for me because making video call using apps at my place is like a pain in the butt(3g signal come and go like a wind). Thats all for now.

Hi guys. Just got this phone today. One thing to say, So AWESOME. The battery is good even with just 2000mah to power the screen and quadcore. Screen is gorgeous and lit up perfectly. Viewing angle is excellent. I owned S4 and iphone 5, this phone can compete both in term of fluidity and performance( hopefully this phone will have long lasting components inside out).. One drawback though, the camera is below average compare to the above phones. The body and frame, o my god.. With titanium alloy and Soft polycarbonate, the feels is so premium and strong matching the iphone 5 estatic. Will give more review of this phone next time. Bye guys..

I think I've found the reason: the model reviewed elsewhere has as Model Number "ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 6040X" while I have "ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 6040D". However firmware version, baseband version and kernel version are exactly the same. As for why the two variants have different camera options (and quite important ones, I would say!), remains a mistery.

guys, about the app drawer thing. tcl had removed the app drawer in the android version that our idol x has. it is also confirmed by alcatel reps that i had contacted. if you really need the app drawer just download a 3rd party one. i had gotten used to not having a app drawer already :-)

Hi guys, I've been using the idol x for almost a month. Just checked out the video review for the idol x... I've two concerns after watching this, which idol x owners could share. 1. In the review, the guy pulls out a kinda app drawer by swiping from below the screen. This is not a possibility in my phone. Are anyone able to do this on their's 2. The camera settings shown in the video are a lot more than what it is originally. Does anyone else have such additional settings on their phones Do i need to update or install any kinda patch to get these 2 features

After using the Idol X for exactly 1 month, I noticed 2 more minor shortcomings of the phone (apart from the relatively lean battery): (i) when turned on silent mode, the vibration motor is quite weak, which means that you can easily miss any incoming call when the background noise is a bit high. (ii) while the speaker phone feature is acceptable, the sound pressure level from the speaker is quite low even on full volume. The sound is a bit muted when you use the phone as an internet radio for area larger than 500 ft2. These are just my personal opinions, other users might not be too concerned about them given the excellent quality per price ratio of this phone.

Is it? I dont have a wifi connection issue with mine. Which wifi are you connected to? If it's your home, maybe there is interference with other signal or probably yours is faulty. Can you explain more so that I may be able to help? Regarding the battery issue, maybe you can go to wifi settings click Menu button and choose Advanced and change the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to Never/Only when plugged in. Also you can choose some darker wallpaper(i use a black one) and adjust the brightness to minimum instead of Auto Brightness(well the phone is still very bright after all even with minimum brightness)Hope that helps. Mine can made through 3 days with some browsing and playing music everyday.(I switched on Ultimate Saver(preinstalled feature) after I'm done using it). I have more battery tips if you want. Dont use other 3rd party battery saver, most of them often consume more juice rather than to save it. (Mind you that i said most of, there maybe exception)

Received mine (The 6040D Dual Sim version) yesterday. Loving it so far. Question: Where's all the camera settings? On my old JB 4.1 Blu Vivo 4.3, I had all kinds of settings like Exposure, Self Timer, Picture Size, ISO, Scene Modes, Color Effects, etc., but on the Alcatel, I only seem to have settings like Flash on/off, HDR, and Panorama.

Camera is free at this price because if you want S4 risult you have to spend 350 � more. Only for camera. One phone is free because it support dual sim standby. Battery is lean side every smartphone need an overnight charging so is with this phone. Stop useless synchronizing and improve battery stop all useless apps running background and improve little more battery . Switch off one of the two sim for more batter risults in power. It is always better to chang phone or t change battery how many old phones have you found in around you with a new battery. I think we must have improved using smartphones by now..

I have been using my OT Idol X for almost 2 weeks, and have no major complaint. The technical specs are simply tip-top at this price point. However, like other contributors said, the battery is on the lean side probably to achieve the ultra thin 6.9mm form factor. I am not a heavy mobile user by any means, casual use of the phone (a few calls, SMS, email, social media, half an hour of simple games) can drop the battery from morning 100% to 30-35% by end of the day. Just keep the charger/powerbank handy if you are a heavy user.

Thanks for the lead. I found this out from the Alcatel Help Apps but this combination of keys are not very easy to activate the screeshot. Most of the time I have to do 2-3 times to get it right....

I just bought this phone 3 days ago. I find it is as as good or even better than my my Samsung A4 mini which I�m still using. Having said that, please do not give negative comments unless if those people out there are not favourable towards the Alcatel Idol X.

Dear all idol x users and enthusiasts, Of course its a decent competitor to the s4 and htc one but its not fair to compare these phones when looking at the price point. i'm owning the phone for 2 days now and loving it so far. The display is brilliant and it feels too good in hand. it costs around half the price of s4 and the one. matching the quality of the giants in itself a great achievement for the idolx... If comparison needs to be done with samsung,htc or sony... at this price the phones offered by them are samsung galaxy grand or galaxy grand quattro, htc desire 600, and many mid level xperia phones. the idolx is far far ahead from these phone models. the camera of idolx fares well for a 13MP great for outdoor capturing and pretty good in low light with flash. will not match the quality of s4 but considering the price again, its so much more than what u can get. if price is not an issue plz go ahead n get the s4 or note3 now... otherwise...for half the price, u cant find a phone better than the idolx...

Nope. Audio quality is average with good earphones (defaut music player) like my Sennheiser CX400 II. Output is way lower than any of my Galaxy S series (I owned them all, still have a S4). Even while tweaking eq I didn't get good enough results compared to my other phones. Maybe with a good player you can compensate somewhat. Else, video and picture quality are superb, excellent brightness and good colors.
