alcatel OT-983 - User Reviews

  • Reset phone if you don't know how to search up a vidio how to

  • Reset the phone I am using Alcatel

  • Power off your phone hold the on button and the top volume button and do it at the same time then you come up with words you tap home button until you see android and a box

  • I've had this device back in 2013. It's shit!

  • Hi, I've had my Alcatel one touch 983 for 6 months now. But I cannot seem to be able to download any apps it keeps coming up saying error cannot download due to server problem. I cant download WhatsApp or Facebook or anything, in fact I cant even update existing apps. Does anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone know how to fix this please? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • How can i reset my one touch 983 phone Please ???

  • I have had my Alcatel OT 983 for just under a year now and I have had so many problems with it. In the length of time I have had it, I have only downloaded 4 apps for it and it wont even keep them open. Every 5 minutes while I am on Facebook it is being "Force Closed". I cant look at my snapchat stories without the Alcatel disconnecting from the wifi and any time I try to tweet, Twitter shuts down. Also it has been sent back to the shop twice already for repairs and now the speaker is totally gone in it. I take great care of any phone I have and I haven't dropped this phone, haven't got it wet and it is always kept in safe storage. I will honestly never buy another Alcatel phone ever again.

  • You don't even trust ur own people. Fire go burn U. Tarnishing the image of GH.

  • Plseas, the charging system of my alcatel983 is spoiled. Plsease how do i get it repaired. I dont think the good peoples in my country can do it. Reporting from Kumasi Ghana.

  • I also have tried to uninstall language apps that came installed on the phone but have been unsuccessful. Deos anyone know how? Currently trying to locate 'micro SD card' which is listed in accessories. I've only found 'SD card'. Are they one and the same?

  • I have an Alcatel 983. I have a storage problem, Ive had this phone for about 9 months. I want to delete apps in the language ie, Catatonia, turkish, etc, to create more space and the phone won't let me. I didn't download these apps, they were on the phone to begin with, taking up valuable space on what seems a low memory chip.

  • can anyone updated alcatel ot 983 2.3.7 ? I want to update my alcatel 2.3.7 to 2.3.1 or higher !

  • What the HECK are you talking about, John. You quite clearly cannot have tested mobile phones at all. This phone has, very nearly, the STOCK Google/Android 2.3.7 ROM installed, with very few modifications; that's better than nearly every other manufacturer for the minimising of both bloatware and additional gubbins that nobody needs. As for the supposed addons, a) you can get free ones quite easily via Google Play and b) Google themselves had not put any of those options you moan about in Android 2.3.7. Many came in further revisions or were added onto the stock ROMs by other manufacturers (Sony, HTC, etc.) using their own applications. It's just like an Nvidia/AMD Radeon graphics card, Nvidia make the card, sort out the software and then other companies build upon it, tweak it and add their own software; so stop bashing the phone or manufacturer, esp. given the price to performance ratio. 1GHz, reasonable battery, quite decent WIFI+hotspot capability, 3-axis accelerometer, bluetooth, OPENGL graphics rendering, magnetic field + orientation + proximity + light sensors, microSD expansion =VS= only 397MB RAM, Broadcom processor-limited ARMv6 and no native flash support (can use Skyfire Web Browser/similar [see Google Play] to get around this) ALL FOR UNDER £40 is quite a deal, IMHO. Rant over. Get your facts right, man. That Blackberry is currently £97 more (including top-up) at EE right now. ARE YOU INSANE!?! Pay

  • Yah, that's Virgin for ya.

  • That's not true - reset back to factory settings by holding down Vol down+Power (might be Vol up+Power, can't remember, but try both). Then connect via your usb cable and delete everything normally (not hidden) visible in the phone and sd card. This gets rid of some of the app packs, such as Facebook and Twitter, which can't otherwise be uninstalled.

  • Nooooooooooooooooooo, what are you doing?!? Never return it to the EE shop, they send your phone for repair only and send you the same one back. Phone 450 and do it that way, they actually replace the phone (minus the back case and battery) for a new one the next day in person via collection from your house. Ay, ay, ay...

  • Wait, you dream about mobile phones? What is this, the Matrix?

  • Piffle, activate '3G only' under Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks.

  • Why, oh why, did you bother rooting it for then? Stop complaining about your mistakes. It's not the phone's fault at all, especially given the price and the lack of ROM/rooting guidance generated by the rest of the tech wizards that must have purchased the 983.

  • Brilliant little phone; but needs someone to make a stock ROM for rooting, please!

  • This phone is okay, I updated it, rooted it, wiped it. And it got stuck on the set up wizard. I found away around it by installing a third-party launcher however; the home&search button will not work and it wont receive calls. :-( it opens apps almost as soon as you click them which is a good feature however, if the app is not in memory it'll take long. I'm upgrading to a S3 MINI soon so it's okay for now. -

  • what rubbish is this. cant access my accounts cant do anything much at all. back to the shop with this thing. eilene

  • I bought an Alcatel One Touch and found I had no signal in my house (always had a good signal with my Nokia) or practically anywhere else. "Emergency numbers only" is what the phone tells me. Carphone Warehouse sent it back to Alcatel who provided a new phone. Still no signal anywhere! Is this phone fit for purpose?

  • I was wondering if I could use the Sim from this devise in a smart phone when I upgrade ?

  • wat a Fone very flashy but its contents are rubbish I can't receive messages, each time I enter am app it shows me had stopped unexpectedly force close, even wen my msg inbox is empty am really disappointed, inactive 3g e.t.c dis Fone s a mess nonsense gonna change it as soon as possible to join better android packages like dy tecno p5 I would nver use an alcatel Fone again even in my wildest dreams.

  • Bought the phone in Feb'13 online through Orange. June'13 had to take it to EE shop to be sent away for repair as it switched itself off and couldn't switch it back on again, I month for repair and return. Oct'13 the same has happened again. If it takes another month to repair 2 months out of 8 in repair shop. Can I trust this phone is it a "rogue phone"?

  • This phone is absolutely amazing :) I recently sold in a Galaxy Ace and this is such a little moneysaver, better than the Ace too :) Ultra responsive, fast and great sound quality, only little niggle is that speakerphone and ringing tones are quiet but well worth the asking price any day! Highly recommended :)

  • I bought this phone 6 months ago and overall, i am quite happy with it. The app store is easy to use and the phone is very easy to get used too, it has very nice touch buttons which function very well and the camera was better than i expected. I am very experience3d with this phone and i know all the hints and tricks, so if anyone has any questions, please leave a response, Thanks

  • Oh yeah....and just to add that it is a bit quiet when it rings - but not excessively quiet.

  • The full instruction manual is on the website of alcatel - and most modern day appliances now don't include instructions as they expect one to download them.

  • If you want to add any apps like What's App,Swype, Skype, Amazon Kindle or Netnanny it will give you a constant "memory full" message and the phone slows down. It is impossible to root this phone as I have tried lots of programs so your stuck with the bloatware it comes with. The other problem I have is that for certain periods in the day I have no signal so can't make/receive calls or texts. I have to switch it to airplane mode and then back to regain the signal. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Virgin network or if the phone has the problem, but my sim card seems to work fine in normal non-android phones without losing signal. On the plus side it's very fast and the screen is very responsive, but a slightly bigger screen would make typing more accurate. However, bigger screens cost a lot more money so for its price this is good spec. The other features apart from the built in RAM are equivalent to an iphone 4.

  • I just bought 2 of this phone a to be honest im very dissapointed i wont buy anything else from alcatel being new to this type of phone having just had a old mobile with no internet i feel let down by the lack of clear instructions that come with it. o yes its full of apps but for the unknowing these apps running in the back ground cost money that was what annoys me no warnings to shut them down or uninstall them so they dont connect to wifi etc go check your credit like i did i used £5 on one phone and !310 on the other without even making a call better than any magic trick robbing gits

  • dont worry this happened to me to when i was charged a pound a day ! all u hav to do is change ur settings so the apps on ur phone will only work on ur own wifi :-) hope this advice will help !

  • This phone is good for the price. If you want a galaxy S4, buy one.....10x the price! Download a better keyboard, true. Limited storage, 127mb true again.....but the price reflects this. Don't like the screen polarisation in landscape mode....but again good screen for price. £40 at Tesco on orange.

  • it keeps turning on the mobile data no matter what i do. charging me money for 3g i dont want. ijust use my wifi at home

  • This is the worst phone ever. The screen has a mind of its own. I'll be scrolling and suddenly the app will close and the phone will go into a fit. Buzzing and closing everything because it thinks I've pressed the back button a million times. I'll press the backspace button once then suddenly all my text is gone. It has no storage. Pretty much as soon as I started using it it started complaining about limited storage. The predictive text is terrible. Its slow. Its confusing camera is terrible. It doesn't have a front camera. WORST PHONE EVER!

  • What piffle. What are you talking about; add-ons are not required to change these - simply change the keyboard options.

  • I bought this phone in April as my last phone (Alcatel OT-665) decided to die, great phone for the price, does all I need in a phone, only problems I have are it could be louder on ringtones and a bit brighter in sunlight, all in all, if you're after a basic smartphone at a cheap price then this is the phone you need.

  • i only bought it as a backup phone for business and it's total rubbish - font size can't be changed (unless you buy an addon) , missed calls and messages show no apparent indication..(. unless you buy an addon). I used to test mobile phones and alcatel always were rubbish - years later and its the same... a terrible phone. 'accessibility' doesnt let you change the font size... comical! I have access to various phones and have to say a Blackberry 9230 without any additional addons at £90-100 is a stuuner compared to this - no addons and it works out of the box..at probably only about £30-40 more Alcaltel - the A means AVOID

  • i love this little phone! i bought it the other day when my iphone was giving me hell, i went into an O2 store and i asked for something that was simple, but looked good, and can allow me on facebook & is cheap, i got this little phone and i instantly fell in love with it, even my dad is thinking about getting one himself, and my friend after having a play around with it, id recommend this phone to anyone :)

  • This phone is a really good phone and i really like it. And im shoked that 1ghz for £50. i got this phone just because i wanted a fast android phone but a cheap one so thats why i got this. really good phone for a guy who dosent want to spend a lot of money. I also compared this whith my freinds samsung galaxy ace and ther were a few differences that had suprised me. I really recomend this phone to you and thank you for reading.

  • my only weird question is when you save videos to the SD card do you have to save them as 3gp or mp4?

  • Haha, the prices wont go up, at argos its 39.99(pounds)

  • m ayudas a utilizarlo y sacarle todo el provecho posible

  • Wow, just picked this up as a spare phone as I don't want to take my nexus 4 out training (swim/bike/run). What a fantastic phone, £50 from tesco (prepay locked to orange). Very responsive, great experience. Camera is great (for the money, poor if you compare to high end devices). Screen is pretty good also (not sure about direct sunlight yet). Only down side I've found so far is that there's not much space for apps. Only about 140mb of storage total in the phone (but mine came with 2gb sd). Once Google/Facebook/Twitter/Maps/etc are installed and the junk removed you've only got 37mb to play with!

  • This little smartphone is amazing. Apart from you need a Google account for many of the apps. Only thing I don't like is the battery life is easy to use up

  • i am an 11 year old girl who has always been picked on for having a terrible phone. But just yesterday i had the phone of my dreams, the samsung galaxy mini. somehow, i managed to break that phone on the same day i bought it. So now its up to me to save up for a new phone. I saw this one and i fell in love. it is so cheap, and should only take me about a month to get £50. lets hope the price doesnt go up!

  • A good phone, great quality for the money. It does exactly what the more expensive phones do, just at a cheaper price.

  • is it play high quality movies........! can we do vlc media player in it......?

  • This a brilliant little phone,im still finding my way about but cant fault it yet,i have had it for just over a week and it has more than lived up to my expectations. The on board memory is not brill, but i bought a 32gb class 10 sdc card and have loads of room for apps etc.love the fact that its so fast.i would definitely recommend this phone. The cost is very low compared to some other android phones.you cant go wrong.

  • This is a great phone for the price - let down by not enough on board memory. I would have happily spent another 10 pounds extra just to get at least 500mb of memory. You just can't install many apps because the phone is constantly saying low memory. Even if you root it and move all the apps to the sd card (which I have) it still complains. Negatives aside, it's a great little phone, fast, well built, and has a decent screen for the price range. If all you want is a phone to make calls etc, this is perfect. But if you like to install lots of apps that do all sorts of things, this phone might struggle...

  • OMG fantastic phone!! Its ridiculously fast for the price AMD exceptional build quality BUT the headphone and speaker quality is shocking. ..the volume would go from. Quiet to stupidly loud and deafen you with head phones and speaker and with headphones its doesn't give you equalizer or the lefty eighth effect which makes your music sound bad.

  • i don't care about no flash!

  • I think I prefer this phone over the iPhone 3GS. This has a 1GHz processor, and 512MB RAM, for a decent price of about $70, or less, I guess? I would highly recommend this phone for anyone looking for a budget smartphone with good quality. It also has a 3.5in display, which is the same display length of the iPhone 4. The only downside of a phone of this category is the pixel density, which is 165ppi. Maybe if they could make it a bit higher, and bump the price up a bit, this phone would become an instant bestseller for those people who can't afford a high-end smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy SIII or what.

  • For the price this phone is unbeatably good. Apps run fast, overall everything works well. Camera is definitely not great but for this price very good. Battery life (with battery saver app running) is also great.

  • I really like this phone, considering the fact that it was affordable and has good performance. I would definitely recommend this phone to someone looking for an affordable smartphone :)

  • I have got the same problem. It's very annoying to hear yourself in the speaker. Have you sorted the problem out?

  • I would take the 983 over the galaxy ace - the camera is 3.15 with standard android on screen features, but the 1gb progessor makes apps and browsing exceptionally fast easily as good as the iphone 3gs if not better. Still can't believe how good this phone is for the price, have had it for three weeks now and not a single issue or bug. Fantastic!!

  • I originally wanted to get the Alcatel OT 983 but then I saw the Samsung galaxy ace and I'm wondering which is better. You see I would need a good camera which the ace has (5mp) and good Internet and app view. But I don't know if the Alcatel is good enough for what I want.

  • Awesome little phone, hard to beat for the price. Anyone had problems with the speakers? I have it at full with earphones!

  • this phone is a bargain its very good and ur right if it was made buy someone else would cost well over £100, its better than my old galaxy ace and alot faster, who cares if its got 150 mg of space everything goes straight to sd card anyway so its never really touched, a must buy before it goes up to £99.99 :-)

  • Got this handset for £40 on O2 at Christmas, didn't have high hopes but I have blown away by this phone - excellent solid build quality, clear bright screen, lightning fast operation, responsive screen and buttons. The camera is quite low spec but still works perfectly fine. If this phone was made by one of the bigger manafacturers it could sell for two or three times this price and would still be excellent value! RECOMMEND!!!

  • too little internal memory, a 5 Mp camera & a 720p video camera would perfect this phone. I would rather pay a higher price than to buy a inferior spec phone at today standard.

  • No - the original SIM is about the size of a credit card, the Mini SIM is the standard size one. Then we have Micro SIMs and Nano SIMs.

  • This phone has a regular sim card slot NOT a mini-sim card slot. There isn't even such a thing, there is sim, micro sim and nano sim. It comes with android 2.3.7 btw and comes with a 2gb microsd card.

  • i got one but downsides are screen isnt brill its not that colourfull and when you look at pictures you can see like dots or weird shapes and it not super clear to look at them but so for the sound is decent but installed volume+ and it makes it more louder touchscreen works as it should and works well phone loads apps and files fast phone design is very good and battery life is decent depending on your usage shame about having no flash and no ics rom for £39.99 you get what you paid for having a cheap screen and no flash but still decent

  • some bugs but only 50 euros man!

  • it doesn't have led flash

  • That's just a flash effect in the video not an actual flash.

  • there is a problem with the mic, the sound feeds back to the speaker, got a replacement from o2 and still the same thing. don't know if it is a hardware or software problem.

  • GiffGaff sims also work in any locked O2 phone

  • Well worth a look is the Alcatel OT-983 Android phone. 1gig processor, loads of apps, lots of spec and all for just £39.99 including free delivery!! Check it out at buy online or in store. I purchased one a week ago, quite impressive for the money. Just lacks a "Posh" label. Not happy with o2? Get it unlocked and choose another service provider. Seasons greetings to all.

  • Please put in specification 3.15MP camera with LED FLASH

  • when will they be releasing here in the philippines?and how much?
