Just update your firmware. Go to settings>about phone>system updates Download the file (around 350MB), install and you'll have JB 4.1.1 You keep all contacts, sms, everything. Enjoy.

It is cheap. It is slow. It is glitchy. I have had to stop using viber, because it uses too much ram running in the background. I can no longer download more apps, because the memory is full and the phone no longer communicates with the sd card. Yes I did drop it. But even so, I'm upgrading ASAP

I bought this phone in Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia. Yes, you won't experience any problems with applications. They all work. Am using viber Tango and whatsapp. You can find a flip cover for it. I have a white one. No more other colors that's the only down side.

During the warranty year I dealt with the company office in Alexandria, Egypt. It was a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. They replace the phone screen with another lable screen witch is not ALCATEL, It is so ugly. I tried many times to make them change it they told me that ALCATEL doesn't produce screens with its lable. 20 days till now, no solution !!!!!!!!!!??????????????????? I feel like it is thefty.

I do not understand, what don't you like in 4.1.1 version. I upgrated thrue handset's system update and everything works well. I must only to change camera's icon (officeSuite and Barcode Scaner is your choise). O'K, main screen and phone is not rotating in auto rotation mode, but it's better for me (I think it's done specially).

i also bought this phone in kenya, it has the feel of a premium phone yet its a mid range android device. I love it but the only problem is that alcatel are slow on releasing updates... I only had one so far. Since android kitkat is on the way and the device is running on ice cream sandwich, is a huge letdown to the device users.

I bought this phone in kenya a few moths ago its ok but i had to factory reset the phone twice just because the front camera wasn't working i dropped it a few times the cheap plastic chipped off obviously i even got a scratch the os is pathetic android 4.0.4 outdated and useless the gameplay is ok but you still need to put dead trigger on low graphics to play it the front camera is rubbish the hdr 8mpx camera is a rip off and the Alcatel manufacturers are liars and thieves they said that they will release an android 4.1 jellybean update where the hell is it we are in october the phone is laggy and outdated do not buy.

Mine has a problem with proximity sensor working intermittenty. Otherwise it's a fine phone. But I would like to add a point concerning manufacturer's shameful and deceptive communication. The manufacturer (Alcatel/TCL) did not deliver update to Jelly Bean (4.1) that was promised during phone release. What is worse, until late September, german facebook profile for Alcatel One Touch (facebook.com/AlcatelOneTouchDE) provided false information about coming update release (that it's being tested, etc). Finally the whole profile was deleted, and email questions about possible update and the facebook profile are being answered that profile was not an official site and update to jelly bean has never been planned. Outrageous!

I'm using this phone nearly 6 months. It's good one, but I always have problems with memory. I use 16 GB SD memory card, but often I need to delete some apps for installing others. This problem is that I have planty of memory on my Memory card, but can't do many works. After some apps installing the phone says that memory in Internal is full, but how it was full. Anybody knows how to solve problem? The second problem is that Alcatel isn't going to update the device to Android 4.3 or maybe 4.2. It's a pitty. The 3rd problem is that you can't find any root video for this phone!

No there is no problem with the on screen buttons but you can remove them if you root it. The jelly bean update is said to be released only for the german 997Ds. This means that the rest of the countries will not have this update. I send an email to alcatel about the update and they said that 997D will not be updated but the official alcatel german page said that their phones will be upgraded.

The phone is very good but can be even better with the right use. First, for camera download ProCapture and you will shot much better photos than with the stock application. Second, root (if you want and know how) your device. I did it and I removed the onscreen buttons. Now I have a true 4.3'' screen. Also, I have to agree that Alcatel has not given any major update but the update jelly bean will come in September (at least this is what Alcatel said to its Facebook page).

Quite easy: go to gallery, select picture, go to settings (indicated by a short dotted line at the top right corner of the screen), set picture as, select contacts then choose the contact. Make sure the contact you want is stored in the phone internal memory.

Hello, I also have this phone and yes, the temperature can get way too high. It is good to have an app that measures the battery temperature. If the battery gets to 45 degrees Celsius then it might be harmed. With heavy use i have reached to 42 degrees so i check the temperature while using the phone.

The phone is not waterproof in the way that you can go in the sea with it. BUT it is waterproof in the way that you can put itt under the faucet with running water and the phone will be fine. There is a video of it on youtube and I have also tried it myself.

Use the tethering option it works perfectly well and no drivers are required. I'm assuming your laptop has a wifi capability though if it doesn't then you do need to download the USB/Bluetooth drivers..

overall assesment is that its great value for the price! I think it's awesome that it can play some demanding 3d games like Dead trigger which I've already installed :-). I've also been able to solve the issue I had where when one sim is connected to the internet the other becomes unavailable. There's a setting I had changed under 'wireless & networks' called 'GPRS transfer'. It must always be set to 'call prefer'. Another important thing to note is that when two 3G sim cards are inserted you have to choose which one you'll use for 3G connections, only one can be used for that. Also it's important to get an SD card as only 1gig is available to the user. all the best!

Hi, I'm using airtel and safaricom, both sims are active at the same time. The exception is I've been experiencing an issue where if airtel's data connection is active on EDGE the other sim safaricom)becomes unavailable/busy. however this issue disappears when the data connection for for sim one (airtel)switches to 3G or is switched off. I didn't see a white model when buying mine but you could consult with the sales people at Fone Express. Hey there,I'm from Kenya and bought this phone at fone express about a week ago. It's a great device for the price ( about 210 euros). Below is my summary of the pros and cons: Pros + beautiful screen with punchy colors, sufficient brightness (usable outdoors), large at 4.3" (4.1" usable), text remains sharp despite the wvga resolution (217ppi) +excellent build quality; solid casing with no squeak or flex. The back panel has a matte/rubbery finish that is textured. Overall it feels much more expensive than its price. +1GB of ram allows plenty of multitasking; most of the time don't need to kill apps when switching between them +so far the games I've installed play well with no lag. these include temple run, fruit ninja and raging thunder 2. comments from around the net suggest it plays dead trigger and shadowgun too. Asphalt 6 comes included though you have to download the apk files +8mp camera produces nice photos for the price. you have to be careful not to be shaky though, image stabilization is pretty bad. +smooth 720p HD video playback +decent earphones included, sound quality is average +battery lasts 1.5 days with average use:moderate gaming,3g connected throughout, moderate whatsapp, gtalk, facebook and twitter usage +internet browsing is very fast +alcatel has promised a jelly bean update scheduled for mid 2013 cons: - transition effects are a bit laggy when entering the app drawer for the first time after long idle times. but after that initial lag it's usually very fast and fluid. - camera has no optical image stabilization. for best image quality you have to be absolutely still - cannot play full HD videos. mx player can play full HD videos but with a lot of stuttering. someone on this thread had complained about not being able to install apps bigger than 5mb in size. I haven't encountered that problem; almost all apps I've installed are bigger than 5mb e.g. opera mobile, whatsapp and temple run. conclusion this device offers excellent value for the price. I couldn't find any other device with the same features and specs for the price. will keep you updated on any new developments ;-)

Hi Miz, Im from malaysia as well.. been using the phone even before they officially launched it in Malaysia.. i never encountered the problems that u have. the only problem i have with the phone is that it will switch the keyboard from normal android to touchplus.. camera is nothing to shout abt as u have to be completely still whenever u want to take a picture (maybe i have not been able to figure out the settings yet heheh) anyways, i was using the galaxy tab before this and i would say ive never regretted switching from samsung to alcatel. for the price in Malaysia id give it 5 thumbs up. as for battery life, it can last one whole day (if u dont play too much games. This based on my usage such as emails, whatsapp, facebook etc.)

Last time i have issue with other phone from different brands too. the solution sometime is to enter the APN settig manually but i have yet to try it with the Alcatel because i have wifi at home. perhaps it is a bugs between telco, alcatel's ICS and google play.

Hi SonaSansona About the e-compass i mentioned that it works fine. I've compared it to other devices and they all gave near results. Adding to that that all the programs that detect hardware show an e-compass supported. Regarding the price it's EGP 1599 in Rizkalla stores and you can get it out of Rizkalla for fifty pounds less as I did (got it EGP 1550). Regarding my experience with the phone....it's simply wonderful.

Hi There Alcatelian People. I've bought this phone two days ago (In Egypt) The Phone Specs is not what's found now on their website. It's 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage (available 1.4GB approximately + 1GB internal storage) It's truly fast and responsive. But the current ROM has some issues of instability. E-compass working fine (not perfect but fine) For the price set, it's the phone ever as you can't find such specs and performance with double this price.

The main camera is pretty good given the price range. As for the front-facing camera. Its VGA. 0.3mp i guess. You read it right. 0.3MP most probably.

The camera is pretty good. Not the best, but is above average (for an 8MP). I have seen some 8mp camera phones that produce a bit better image quality though. As for the front facing camera.. its not worth describing. Its just better to be used for video calling. Taking self-portraits using the front camera is bad. VERY bad.

Yep the phone has wifi-hotspot. Video recording is good too. I'm not sure about the format but the video recorded was pretty nice, especially the audio (uses SRS). This phone really is he bang for the buck. :) Durable too (managed to drop mine a couple of times already). :)

Hello, I got this phone yesterday, was quite scared about problems with ringtone default restoring and wifi strength that I had read, but I experienced no such problem at all. The phone is great. Hello I have it for about 3 weeks. It's an amazing phone. There is just one issue. When you assign an mp3 for ringtone, either for the phone or for specific contacts, either the sound is on your phone's memory or the SD card, when you connect it to the PC or when you restart the phone, the ringtones goes back to the default. This is a bug of android. In later Gingerbread versions it was fixed but each company by itself. It seems this phone has this problem also. In the next update they say they will correct it. All 997's have it and many other phones (HTC Desire or Sensation, Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Nexus S, Motorola Droid etc)

I owned 2 lenovo phones and i have to say that the 997d is MUCH better. Both my lenovo phones broke after 4 to 6 weeks. The Alcatel 997d is much much faster. The camera is way better (8mp vs 5mp) and it is fast and has a flash. I bought the lenovo 700p in the philippines for approximately $300 usd and got the 997d in hong kong for $200usd. Its strange cause the 997d is considerably better.

Hakim lol brilliant boy, you edited the question. anyway 995d i dont think its available in kenya and if it was it would be around 22k to 25k. coz it uses the same processor only that this one on 997d is duo core. i.e mtk just did lil modification to mtk6575 to make it 6577.

I am using alcatel ot 997d for almost a month already and I have no issues yet. UI is smooth and the dual sim works fine, better than the duos of samsung. The only decent competitor of alcatel(sorry, not samsung as earlier posted) in the dual sim market is lenovo, although MyPhone's A 919 is comparable to the two brands in terms of performance for MTK dual core hardware and is cheaper.

I bought it in Fonexpres Kenya at Nakumatt super market way back in November before it was even launched at cost of 27500 KES and thus missed on free 8GB MicroSD card. I think its better than Samsung Galaxy s duos in that this has 1GB Ram against 750MB, Its a duo core ,and its bigger though that pushes down the pixels concentration. The build is almost like that of samsung though alil bit heavier. The only thing you cant compare with the samsung is the stabillization of image in the camera so you cant take images of rally car with this. samsung is way ahead on this. But for just still photos, the phone is ok. It takes 8Mpx Images. I had the choice of buying either the SGS Duos and 997D and I chose this phone. Sorry another drawback the phone doesnt have a duo 3G chip hence the phone works with one of 3G sim at a time. I dont know about SGS duos. But samsung is always ahead on such areas. The 3G speeds are superbub thanks to duo core. The browser is at least 30% faster than the single core of the same clocking. The GPU is also slightly better than SGS Duos on benchmarks.My currnt big problem is that I dont Know whether it will receive JB or am stuck with ICS. SGS Duos will get JB soon according to samsung. And that is my TWO sense

I recently bought this device. It runs like a dream. The interface is smooth and the dual SIM function is excellent. It somewhat feels like an I phone. A bit heavy but not a bad thing. The camera is excellent shooting HD images. The video display is also excellent. It comes with preinstalled applications which is a plus. The phone is fast enough. It only faces some issues with radio reception, and wifi strength. I think it is similar to "grip of death" in the right down side of the phone. Not sure if this can be corrected by another firmware upgrade, or it is a design fault. But overall very happy with it

I have the Alcatel OT-997 (without D) so it's a Single SIM phone. Bought it in MTS service provider in Serbia for about 120 euros. It's great so far... used SGSII and not that far from it :) 1GB RAM, 2GB Storage. Everything works smoothly on it :) Got 2600 score on Quadrant which is gr8 for a cheap android phone :)

It is dual standby. As soon as you talk on one SIM, the other is redirected to your voicemail. When using data, transmission is paused when calling on the other SIM. I can hardly see why dual-standby is a problem - what more do you need?

Not Wi-Fi weak reception even very strong compared to other models. MTK chip has a some problems with reception but It's very easy to fix that. With latest firmware update device is more stable.

It looks as a good choice, but there are reports that this device has 'weak' WiFi reception. Also early firmware has some issues (reboots often). Not all European languages are supported (f.e. no Greek Menu at the moment). Let hope it will mature in future firmwares.
