Asus Memo Pad 7 ME176C - User Reviews

  • Please try custom ROM for this model (Lineage OS 14 -ANDROID 7.1) from XDA .It is faster than ever. There is even LOS 16.1 but I haven't try it yet. I totally agree with you that this tablet is unusable with stock 5.0 Lolipop. The only problem with LOS14.1 is that it still has huge battery drain in standby mode, like stock lollipop. But the solution is to turn it of when not using it.

  • Truly terrible tablet then and today. If used today it's barely serviceable with the amount of unforced crashes it goes through per day. It should even have the status of being "budget" when it's OS is this bad.

  • The Android 5.0 is the final software this pad got. No more support. I will keep using it because I have tight budget.

  • It's definitely not one of the most reliable fully-functioning tablets out there in the market, and you can get a better deal in terms of performance with an outdated Samsung Galaxy Tab, I guarantee that. The Memopad 7 is not entirely cut out of the market as its performance issues are precisely those of cheaper Chinese-brand phones, where its interface is experiencing several lags issues, but despite its general flaws, Asus does bring in several features that though, may not prove of much significance, gives certain edge to the tablet. Some of the preinstalled applications such as Asus Music are beautifully-designed and the performance of certain apps are also quite noteworthy. As most Asus' products go, the camera is decent, for its price, that is. The light-sensitive camera does not help the struggling tablet many potential consumers, but this tablet is made clearly for certain apps. Simple apps such as Messenger, (Facebook), are not meant to be accessed on this tablet. Especially social-media applications, as the tablet will undergo severe lagging issues and there are certain instances of the keyboard being unable to keep up with the app itself, forcing the app to shut down and crash. Overall, a 4.8/10 for the whole tablet. Design-wise for the external piece itself is mediocre. Not bad, but not good.

  • Where can I buy this brand new?

  • Jase the tabletisok. I had the same problem. All you needto do to fix it is remove the back cover and push in the batterry connection, then you can put some tape on the connection and all will be good. Just did it myself.

  • do not buy this product, the pad won't charge the battery, the cable is on good funtions which i can use to charge my mobile, lag....don't think about want to buy this brand anymore.

  • How to downgrade asus memo pad7 please tell me.

  • Yes I repeat do NOT update this tablet!!! Horrible experience. LAG, FREQUENT FREEZES. Something told me not to update and I didnt listen to myself.

  • Alright. I did not upgrade it. Looks like I'm sticking with kitkat then.

  • Did the factory reset downgrade the tablet back to KitKat

  • NOOOOOO!!! Don't upgrade! I had the same tablet and loved it on KitKat but when I upgraded to Lollipop I experienced overall slowdown, crashing, and app compatibility issues.

  • I just bought this tablet yesterday, and so far overall I'm impressed with it. Only thing which is not so good is camera, but I can live with that. But one thing I was wondering is if I should upgrade to lollipop, since It's running android 4.4.3 now, and inmediately after I turned it on I received software update message. But I decided to wait with that, since I saw that with 5.0 battery drains faster and there are some GPS problems. So, anyone knows if that's fixed or I should stick with the version I have now?

  • Just install apps which are made to read pdf... For example:

  • My pad can't read pdf files. How to fix it?

  • Posting rules English only Please no foul language, be polite and use common sense .... Be polite See? You're not alone. Sarcastic derision over valuable info. Yet somehow (how, oh how???), this remains the only comment with an upvote.

  • Does the tablet performance better with 5 or 4 android ?

  • Orginal : kitkat .. however it got the lolipop update 5.0

  • WOW!!!! can you teach me english because you're really good with words.

  • Fantastic mashine. Lightning speed on page changing, very good battery life, smooth processing/Intel is Intel/. But I need it bigger and 2 RAM at list..

  • are you under kitkat or Lollipop ?

  • It's an amazing tablet. I bought it in August is 2014 and today it's still fast and as Asus updates.

  • For GPS issue. Disable gps first. Then go to settings , all apps, and find "location" app. Disable and force stop this app for few minutes. Then enable it again. It will starts working normally

  • Of course, what did you expect!? Asus Memo Pad 7 ME176C has intel CPU with 64-bit and NEXUS 7 2nd GEN has only 32-bit. More bit-rate, more power consumption.

  • While you're playing heavy graphic games, does its display flickering?

  • hello, it's possible, i done it, you can downgrade your device, but need to root it first :)

  • I did all with the SD NOT inserted in the pad. Don't know if is possible to go back to kit kat, i think no.

  • Does factory reset erase all files in micro sd card? Does it make it go back to kitkat?

  • Root after update to Lollipop. It' not so easy but you can do it if you have a little of experience. You need to connect the pad to a pc with Debug Usb active on the device. Download in a pc folder this 2 files: IntelAndroid-FBRL-05-16-2015-PTR.7z and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip. Important: use these version only. This works with Lollipop too. Copy SuperSU-v2.46.zip in your internal tab memory. Decompress IntelAndroid-FBRL-05-16-2015-PTR.7z (it creates a new folder) on the PC and run launcher.bat. Verify that you can see the device connected via USB. After ACCEPT use the T4 trigger (T4 only). You should see a temporary CWM session starting to work. Choose to install UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip Follow this guide where you can download the 2 files too: There isn't the option T4 here, but if you download IntelAndroid-FBRL-05-16-2015-PTR.7z and NOT IntelAndroid-FBRL-01-17-2015.7z you will find it. Not responsible for any problem. Can take a long time to finish this process but it works and you finally have the device rooted to uninstall all bloatware and more.

  • which program used for rooting this tab ?thx

  • Factory reset and reinstall the gps program, everything is working much better! Thx

  • Updated to Lollipop. GPS restarded to work after a factory reset. Rooted again and deleted all bloatware. Now works very fine. No battery problems. Antutu score 36400.

  • Uninstall all your GPS programs and re install them under Android 5. I Had the same problem but after re installing, my GPS is working better than before. I Actually Factory reset my Tab and re installed all my software from anew.

  • Good tablet android 5. works good for me only slows down when multitasking :)

  • Got Android version 5.0 on my ME176CX yesteday, but where are the 3 new Android buttons' icons (for Back, Home, and Recent Apps), the old style KitKat icons are still there. Shouldn't these icons suppose to have charged to simple geometric forms?

  • I have lollipop 5.0 but in the website in say 5.0.1 what is that

  • The same here, NO GPS and I bought this Pad 7 for the GPS Facility, so upgrade to OS 5 is absolutely to be avoided. Set your pad to block automatic download and upgrade. Asus is guilty of FRAUD on this issue and I shall be taking this matter further.

  • Great tab and incorporates a accurate GPS system where the Memo pad 8 has no GPS.

  • After the updating (5.0) no gps

  • Got my 5.0 update and also made my tablet very slow. Hope asus is doing something about this. And where is the miracast feature?

  • it eats a lot of your internal memory..because of this, you wont be able to update some of your apps because it prompts the user "insufficient internal memory".. :(

  • 5.0 Sucks... Slower, less app compatibility and it eats a lot of space in the internal memory. I hope they will allow us to transfer large app data to the external memory.

  • Just recieved Android 5.0 lollipop!!

  • Wow!this asus memo pad 7 is the best!i have no problem with this!very affordable price and fast internet.those Who made this i salute you bro!

  • The specs listed here are for the first, limited-edition release of the tablet; after the reviews were in, Asus went to a cheaper version - the ME176CX - which has only a 2MP camera on the back (the main camera) and a VGA for selfies. There's also no metal banding around the edge. I don't know if there are any other differences but the camera issue really disappoints, so if you're considering getting one of these, check your source to see if it really IS an ME176C or CX. I was also disappointed to learn the blue version is only sold through one distributor (Newegg? Maybe that's changed now that it's been in circulation and the newness has worn off). And now that I have it "loaded" and have been using it awhile, I always seem to have to hold down the power button for awhile and re-power it off/on in order for it to come back to life after it's been charging awhile. It was 'snappy' at first when there wasn't much on it, but like all things in middle age it gets creaky and quirky with experience.

  • After a series of updates my battery started to drain very fast in standby/idle, about in 12h drained 50%. I read some advices here and I factory reset the tab 3 times. Now my battery drains in standby drains 1%/h in ultra power saving mode. so i think its an improvement.

  • How to i make factory reset?

  • Battery life issues are very common for this model. ASUS insists they are not, but I returned 3 of them for that kind of problem. Comparing this to a Nexus 7 2013, left idle overnight starting with 100% battery, the ASUS ended at 46% the Nexus at 88%.

  • 2 issues with my Memo Pad 7 ME176C. 1. The smart cover keeps turning the screen off when flipped and touching the back of the tablet. 2.The battery says it has a lot of charge then all of sudden shuts down and has completely discharged. This has happened 2 times so far in the last month or so.

  • My tab was initially draining fast. I updated my tab and it solved my problem (battery problem when idle). My tab is draining 2-5% overnight. Is it good?. You can use this tablet for as long as 7 hours and 30 mins without stopping (watching movies, browsing). But when u play light games it will drain quite fast. When u play heavy games it will surely drain your battery faster. So it really depends on how you use your tablet. For those having battery problem, would you mind telling use what were u doing when u noticed it was draining fast (idle or not)? I hope this could help to gather information for others to learn from. Thanks!

  • There is only one way to get rid off the draining battery while idle problem. Root the tablet, update it and install deep sleep battery saver and choose slumberer profile. Hope that helps, it did for me.

  • buy and connect otg cable...

  • You have to update your tablet in order to transfer apps from internal to sd card :). keep checking if there is an update. i updated my tab five times. just keep updating until your tablet allows you to see the option to move your apps. just go to asus customized setting and look for the preferred installation.

  • biggest problem is can't transfer contents or apps file to sd card. it says 8GB of memory but you can only use 4GB after u install your desired games nones much left, tried searching on ways to move apps to sd card but this type of tablet does not have that capacity unlike samsung tab.too bad i bought a 16gb sd card. it does not even have the option to change default storage memory when installing apps.

  • It is a powerful tablet my antutu benchmark is 45000 just a bit less than note 4 !!!! This tablet have 64bit cpu then its great for android l5 andfull hd game and Iits 3d&2d graphic mark in antutu is better than note 4 I am realy exited jusb buy it .

  • Does anyone know how to connect a USB modem to this asus tab

  • Yes, it happens with me as well.

  • IMPRESSED and it appears to be the BEST and compares very well with "top" ranges. Memo pad 7 is going to damage them on sales and popularity. Maybe prices will drop on expensive products.

  • FB runs perfectly on memo pad me176c.

  • Does anyone else's music player randomly pause and then when you press play it starts from the beginning and the pop up in the notification window disappears? Or is it just me?

  • My memopad had that battery problem too after ive updated its system, it drains 5-10 % per hour and it always gets hot even it is in standby mode.. I did factoryreset but it did not solve the problem. BUT guess what after the third time i reset it, battery problem gone.. And now my battery back to normal. Hope it helps dude..

  • Just have an an update and the some apps data can be move to sd.

  • I am using this, last few days my TAB's sensor (only middle of the screen) is not working ? Feeling confused please help.

  • use something metallic like a paperclip, place it on the backside where the sensor is and it will work perfectly.

  • Nice tablet boys... I would ask something....this machine Will take android 5(lollipop)??? thanks in advance...

  • I have this tablet for a days now and when i use the Smart Cover the unit make the screen turn off when you fold the cover at the back of the tablet and this is really freak me at first...and what im do is to use some carboard or paper or towel at the back to let the cover not to touch the back of the tablet that causes the screen turn off.

  • dear is it available in pakistan and how much price??

  • This tablet has OTG support. It must be mentioned in specification sheet.

  • multiwindow is not limited with apps on the list u c on mini window. just put multitasking support app to home launcher via activity and clear data then open it to enable other apps . asus basicly sets blacklist by default its because u see only system and preinstalled apps on the multiwindow list. watch video here :

  • That's why there are useful apps to download on Google Play to meet your specific needs, don't you think? Try Battery Saver. There are actually alot of options to choose from.

  • Extend battery life during sleep by manually shutting off Bluetooth, rotate and GPS, automatic shutoff of wifi. GPS drains almost as much power as the display I wish it had a specifiable polling interval. Wifi can be set to shutoff automatically 1 minute after entering sleep.

  • I applied the update . Multipane is limited to apps written to use it as drag from recent apps operation. Latest Asus app updates from google play store do so, but don't see the point. Updates to Miracast functionality make more sense, with a quick settings shortcut available. I do wish that there were a standard regarding where to put functions like this one, and what to call it. My other brand tablet has it under Display.

  • Has anyone received the update for kit kat? I updated this morning but I cannot gain access to the screen that goes over the update and the new features. The Asus menu now features something new called "boost" and I think we can use multi windows simultaneously but I don't see the option to access it.

  • Not sure what the screen is made of, but it's as good as gorilla glass IMO. Also, Asus is no longer making the ME176C, it's now ME176CX, the difference being the main camera is 2MP and the front is VGA. So be forewarned - though the pics are still acceptable for most shots. Like others have said, this is very fast, snappy, does everything you could expect from it in its form factor. Now if only they made it in a 6" version so it could fit easily in the typical front pocket of a pair of pants, it would go everywhere with me. My only complaint is that the speakers (which are quite decent) would be better off facing the user, a la HTC's One series. On this machine they face down on one end, which is where you want them if you put this in a stand in portrait mode. I use a good bluetooth speaker with it so that's not a problem normally, but something to consider.

  • How can i use the keyboard? Asus memopad did not support korean input. Whenever i type korean language it not appeared in asus screen. So can you tell me what should i do? Thank you , waiting for your response

  • This superb handheld is such a useful tool for any kind of activities such as, watching movies, playing heavy graphic games, net surfing and even using document apps. I dont regret replacingmy Ipad to this amazing tab, worth it in your every cent.

  • I've ME176C and problem with battery. No matter what I do it drains 3-4% per hour during deep sleep mode. I tried everything except rooting (reset to fabric settings, turn off battery saver, all settings to minimum, airplane mode, deep sleep battery saver etc) but battery draining is constant. And as more as I read about this problem conclusion is that's common problem among users. Anyone else?

  • i basically want to use this tablet as a music player. so all i want to know, how is the sound quality through headphones. i have returned both nexus 7 from 2012 ans 2013 model(both made by asus) due to bad sound quality.

  • can i ask, buy this memo pad 7 or zenfone 4? which is better?

  • Great machine. Have a kindle HDX and I like this better

  • Could agree more to those who said it was fast.. Believe it or not, IT IS FAST and SNAPPY. just bought it today. Trying out all the features. Performance-wise id give it a 9.5. Havent tested the batt life though. The camera is so-so.. Nothing much to expect on that area, but hey cmon! With its nifty price, you get a quad core tablet thats INTEL inside?! A complete bang for the buck!!

  • One Word: FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTt Bought this tablet a week ago. Nothing compares on its price range. very very cheap for a very very very fast and super decent performance. Ive sold my Ipad4 now and will stick to this tablet. It accomplishes everything at a cheap cheap price

  • Is it better than samsung tab 4? I dunno which one to get

  • one word : faaaaaasssst

  • yah that's true , the best tablet in its price, value for the money without compromising the speed & performance....all the hardcore hd games can handle it without any issues, i have this tablet more than a month now, & all i can say is the best asus product...cheers:-)

  • does it have Gorilla or other glass ?

  • ive experienced it

  • No its not true

  • Poor battery

  • In my country this costs 215$,about nexus 7 price in US. It,s an improvement from Asus Memo Pad HD,better design, tha back glossy plastic has been raplaced with a soft touch plastic like the nexus's 7 II. The resolution is a bit 2013-ish.But lets remeber that samsung galaxy tab 4 10' has the same resolution for a much bigger display. The Intel by trail processor deserve all the cash,it beats out the nexus 7 and i think it beats tha gpad 8.3. It's a very good tablet to start with.

  • I heard that latest version of facebook is unable to run on this tablet due to compatibility issue (x86 based intel soc). Is that true?

  • Hi. This Tablet Has Got More Than Enough Specifications In It's price And It's Great. My Friend Got This Last Week And We Were Impressed By It's Power, So I Decided To Order It. It's The Best 7 Inch Tablet For now. It Has Been Reliesed And I'm Gonna Recieve This Tablet In A Couple Of Days. So #GsmArena Fix That Error. I Ordered It From #AMAZON.COM Great Tablet, Great Price, Great Power, More Specifications Than It's Supposed To Be And Great Display. That's All You Get From This Tablet And It's Totally Worth It.

  • it is too usefull and my favourİte pc.

  • much better than new galaxy tab 4..memopad 7 with intel 1.8ghz quadcore, but tab 4 have only 1.2 ghz...

  • Nice. i like it :)
