You have to cut open the battery and resolder new elements inside - I've done that with my 1018 putting bigger capacity elements and everything works fine. Just be very careful with cutting the battery case, because when you glue it back aftewards you'll want it to look as "never been touched" :)

That's my first mobile since 1999 - and it is upto now the only one still! Well, I had to replace the battery twice (still available!) and had to fix the antenna with glue - but it's doing all right: I'm available on phone for my family, and I'm able to call anybody. What more does a mobile telephone need? Concerning me: nothing! (Besides: the "Retro-Look" makes that old bone really sexy!) So, I'm not only content - I just love it!

how do you connect it to a 7 port usb hub please? can it work a usb modem? usb mobile broadband device why doesn't the chatboard offer a connection that can connect with the power cable at the same time - why aren't the hands free standardised 3½mm stereo headphone and mic jacks - why arent the batteries standardised? why aren't these fones regulated

I had a 1018 and the chatboard. I can't remember using it on the 1018 but I did use it on my T10 and T15. It worked differently on both. It was a terrible phone. I should have bought a Siemens C25 - which I got secondhand years later. I still have the C25 and it's still excellent.

Only replacing mine because it will no longer hold a charge even with a replacement battery. Speed Dial was brilliant , Turn on then one number and then yes - which my wife could use - a replacement is hard to find.

In a word, indestructable. I used this phone from 99 through to mid 2004. Then gave it to my parents, and it's still going. No idea what the casing's made of, but it should be used to make armoured vehicles - only scars it's got from six years of use are a couple of chunks out of the antenna. On its second battery now, and still only needing charging twice a week.

my first phone is nokia 6210. very sophisticated. i like it alot because of the slim shape. teh one day, it is gone. bastard! but, anyway, limited on budget, i got this ericsson A 1018. very simple to use. but the antenna is a bit too big. it can beat my nokia 6210 in: -u can compose your own melody. -u can speak on the phone even in the lift. -very simple to use. -very comprehensive manual. if after u read the manual and do not know how to use the phone, u r too stupid! dis: -battery run dead very quickly. -the charger is the size of a borneo island. it is TOO BIG and heavy.

A good phone but it seems Ericsson can't make phones to rival others being a small size and a small antenna. But the big antenna means good call quality and the the Ericsson performs well in this area. The phone has a good menu too and the melody composer is fun although the novelty soon wheres off- the normal ringers and melodies are good enough!! Battery life is excellent too- the alarm is handy- the new model A2618 is actually biggere than the A1018 very wierd!!
