I bought what I believed was a refurbished copy of this phone in 2007. When it worked, it was good, with clear sound. Plus, the "shark fin" antenna was an eye-catcher. But, more often it didn't work. Incoming and outgoing calls couldn't register. And opening the battery compartment was a bitch. After a year of unreliable service, I gave up on this phone. I still like its design, though.

This is by far the best phone I ever had. The rubber on my first one disapeared after a couple of years. I managed to get a used one to replace the first one. havent used them for quite some time and the batteries are probably shit. Might give it a go some day to try to start them up. I wish they would start making them again with an severe update.

Can't remember if this was my first ruggedised handset before or after the 6250 and M35i, but I love it (so did Lara Croft). Thought I'd put a foreign SIM in mine so that it can connect to any UK network in emergency or out of coverage with my normal phone. Battery charged up well and phone is undamaged (still looks brand new almost), but it won't allow connection to any network ("unavailable") with any SIM. Even 112 (emergency) won't connect. It can detect networks, just wont connect! Have SIMs changed over the years or has my IMEI perhaps been incorrectly reported as stolen? Any suggestions gratefully received.

Just took out my old 310s because my smartphone died after 10 month. new battery (10 euro).and my 2001 phone is up and running and i cant understand why i ever put it away. Good signal, good mike, solid casing. rubber is worn thoug so i think i will upgrate it with a new front (25 euro). BEST PHONE EVER.

There are a lot of R310s "refurbished" phones from Hong Kong, for sale on eBay. What do you think about these ? I think they are obviously fakes, as it is impossible to have spare boards for a ten years out of production phone. Even the mainboard is fake. For those of you who have bought it from HK, how is the phone working in low signal - remote areas ? I would be interesting to compare one original phone and a "refurbished" HK one.

this phone is amazing- the ariel provides the best signal going, no matter what network, i can even use it in my cave house- the colours and bright and vibrant, i really stand out in the groud with this bad-boii, i like the little green light that flashes when i've got a text, makes me look mega popular when im in public... even when my phones set to silent!1 this is the ultimate hs!!!!!!

Still working 9 years later. It's been run over by a sack trolley with a 400 litre fridge on it, through a washing machine, dropped in a degreasing machine, dropped from 6 feet many times and fell off the roof of a moving car. The original battery still lasts longer than an iPhone's battery does - on standby. The grey rubber bits have all perished and went gooey so I peeled them off, except for the antenna which must be a different plastic. Error in the features list, it does have games, Solitaire and Tetris.

This baby really disappointed me. I threw it across a parquetted floor one drunken night and it has gone bonkers since then. Not as shock-proof as I thought it would be.(Ok, so maybe I shouldn't have. :D) But I loved the design and the color; mine was the bright yellow kind. :D

I'm using mine for 8 years now, with original "made in Sweden" battery, some keyboard marking has worn off, but the phone works perfectly, so far it never let me down, has been in rain, water and mud and has fallen many times on hard surfaces. I'm not thinking of replacing it with anything else as long as it is functioning as it is now, no matter how anachronous it may seem

Try e-bay there is a German company called wannsee-electronic which supplied me 2 batteries @ �12.90 each with free shipping to Europe. Alternatively there are some suppliers on e-bay again from Hong Kong and China but their batteries do not always meet the EU safety criteria. Good luck.

This was my 3rd Ericsson phone. I got the R310sc (the one with Chinese language options) in yellow! It was a superb phone. It was tough, reliable and very unique! Imagine bringing that phone to a meeting, or wearing it in public (which I did!) Cool! Even the accessories! Unfortunately, here in the Philippines, the rubber seals tend to disintegrate in the humidity very quickly and I've had to replace them twice when I had it. Quite expensive.

This is such a tough phone,that i cant let it go!I have bought others since,but if i drop them (which i do often!)they break..so out comes old "trusty" for a while untill i get the new one fixed.This phone is obviously out dated in every department bar 1...its durability in extreme conditions to take accidental punishment like most watches cant even endure!..and for a extreme sports freak (and a plumber by day)this is the one that accompanies me on my dangerous missions.It truly is a pity they did'nt continue this breed of phone into todays level of technology.

Bought one almost two weeks ago. After a full charge, I found that my standby time was only 62 hours, or just over two hours of talk time. (Rather low, no?) I might have to call the dealer about this. The housing for the battery is a chore to open and close, especially when compared to its older sibling, the R250. Other than that, I like the way it looks, and it sounds good.

Fisrt of all this phone was built for tough use and not for play around camera and games. So it might be ugly but if it falls couple of times it will keep working as hell and it won't be useless as the K800i. I used the phone for a year and the reception is exceptional. Even better than some nokias that I used. Second, it comes with a very useful bluetooth adapter and you can use various bluetooth headsets. It also comes with a rare ICR-11 adventure kit (which I got) and it is very useful. So an excellent phone for it's purpose !!

I sent for 2 of these about 2 months ago.They arrived after much a-do at my end (Portugal) as the carrier couldnt find my house ! had my n� but didnt think of calling until about a week after the phones arrived in the country ! Unfortunately I only started using them about 3 weeks ago;BIG problems...hardly ever had network,would turn off and on and off again without being touched,one phone would receive but not make calls,the buttons on the other had the numbers and letters smudged....anyway,I contacted the seller and sent them back .I was told I should have tried them the day they arrived.Well,I didnt know I had to do that so I guess thats my fault but they were put away in a safe plave when they arrived and I never thought they would be faulty!Hopefully they have arrived at their destination (China) or will soon and the repairs will be made or new ones will be sent to me.This time I hope they will be in perfect consdition.In the meantime I am using my VERY old one but working beautifully.The rubber on the sides is missing,no letters or numbers on the buttons but no trouble with network,calling out or anything else.May the repaired ones or news ones be as good.If not,I hope I will get my money back...or is that being a dreamer ? :)

I'm Indonesian & I have R310S, I'm very proud of vmy R310S, but in my country whic have tropical wheater, I think there is a problem on rubber seal material for side cover the phone. Just 1 year the material gonna bad form, like melting when we touch. My R310S was bad now the body up cover was crack and battery is always low. But, I still love the phone because very comfort to handling and the carracter of font words is good to watch and read. Rugged, simple and reliable. Software a little slow. I went rafting with it, took it to the mountains, had it sink in the sea, drowned it in beer...Once it flew for 30 feet and landed on concrete, and it worked OK. I only had problems with it for a few days after I'd left it on the beach in the scorching sun for a couple of hours. My only worry is that I won't be able to get a new battery when it dies on me one day.

Sorry for the spelling mistakes in previous post. I obviously meant to say "pity that it doesn't have Tri-band or Quad-band" instead of GSM. I also meant to say that I have now updated the old beat-up original R310s that has part of the rubber rubbed off and bottom cover missing (but still working)with another one that is like new. When are Ericsson going to 'update' this model? - or at least bring out a new 'waterproof & sturdy' model? I doubt if they will now, because of the cost of making such a strong phone. Now every company has jumped on the plastic bandwagon where everything breaks or stops working as soon as you cough at it or show it a rain shower...

I've used this phone in the harshest of conditions and climates worldwide. built like tank and even though I've dropped it numerous times on hard rocks or pavements it still keeps on working!. Mud? Just was it off! Rain? No problem! This is a superb outdoor mobile phone. Only negative is that it is not tr-band for USA. My old one is looking a bit frail now, so I've managed to obtain a mint-conditioned R30s to replace it if it ever goes wrong...although the original 'beast' keeps on working no matter what i throw at it! The latest 2005 Nokia rugged phones just don't match this superb Ericsson model of the past...

On 04.11.2002 I left the post here ending that this phone is SUPERB. I am still using it and have to say that it is more then superb! Looks funny when compared with nowadays phones (mine, orange, is for some reason really attractive for children :-)) but has some features that proved useful over the time: standby and talktime metre, water, dust and shock proof (definitely proven!) and very, very reliable! Battery is weaker but still, topped, can hold for 4 (four) days when talked and SMSed in modest manner. And another feature I am begining to like. The phone is becoming a sort of classic. More and more people would like to possess it so I have some of them asking me to buy it. No way! :-) This phone is a real Harley-Davidson among the others. However, there is only one bad thing I can think of R310s. This bloody good phone still has no succesor!

I bought a new housing its colored green and it looks great with peak yellow under it. it is a very durable phone but the software just really sux. well anyone pls tell me how to upgrade this phone. also the housing costs a lot than i paid for the phone. great phone after all although it is a lil bit heavy, cool design yerrrr!!!!! looks like one of the sagem's phone

Had one of these for about a year now. Got it 2nd Hand and it has been used and abused daily. i.e. thrown of a set of steps into a tool box etc. Software apears to have become slow for some reason but may flash it/reload software now that i have a serial lead and a bit of software ! Anyone who wants to sell one of these mail me 1st !

I just bough a used R320sc since I cannot find any new ones of this kind in Indonesia. It's a rare product ! I even ordered the holder with a compass with it... cool! It's really inspire me in a borring situations..! now I had 2 Ericsson Handphones ... the other is T68.. and I use it two accompany my SONY CLIE T665c.. whhoahh life is beautiful now..and ready for a corporate meeting or wildlife situations.. I think I will keep this R310sc till it broken ... no more changing every 3 months ...heheheh.. maybe for the T68 ;p

My R310 (and others I've seen) has no voice memo and voice dial. Its (standard) battery on stand-by is 120 h and weights not 173 g but around 140 with standard battery. I doubt info given on this site are very true but the phone itself is SUPERB!

Once, when i was a bit "tired" i land my 310 in a beer can and ask one of my "friends of misery" to call me... 310 then start making little beer-waves... JUST COOL !!! Buy it and drop it ! Good HP, i believe. But the software needs an upgrade. Sometimes my r310 just hangs and shut off. Sometimes, the phone book doesn't show up when I wanna send SMS. Any advice, please??? Overall, I like it's durability and strength!!! I love it.

This phone's rubber cover (grey area) came off the phone within a year of using it. My husband goes thru sell phones like people goes thru red trafic lights. I can say one thing eventhough the phone is not up to standard anymore it is still a durable phone.

the menus not simple and easy like nokia, and the delay after we touch the key panel rather longer than another phone I've ever use. sometimes my r310sc turning off by itself without I make the phone off. If we send mail-sms the program not simple to send another sms with the same news.I like my r310sc, can you explaining my problem there.

here in the philippines,speaking of durability,i would take the r310 anytime vs the nokia 6250.R310 at Philippine peso of 5000 vs nok 6250 at Phil peso of 16-18000 !!!Well ericsson is known for its durability even if it is not user friendly compared to nokia.But it depends on the user's needs yet durability is very important.Case in point - what if you bumped or accidentally dropped your nokia 8850,8310,8250 and it went dead - what then? Goodbye your hardearned money!For value for money and durability, the r310 is a winner.

The phone looks great! Although I think that they overdid the antenna. It lacks certain key features to boost its functionability. A bigger memory for both phonebook and pic/txt messages can proove to be more usefull tan a mere 99 name capacity. Since we are already there why not as well make it like what the 7110 has; a whooping 1000 entries, wherein each entry has sub entries for various uses. Also i think that its audible alert is not that audible at all. What use is an alarmclock if you couldn't even hear it. I also wish that its makers would consider putting more muscle by again - bigger capacity of memory for calendar notes if it has one! well thats it for now i guess. Im in the Philippines and we people rely on our sim's message and phone book capacities. If Ericsson want to be competitive i think they better make sure that their patrons or consumers stay with them by satisfying them with a good, handy, reliable phone, that comes with a reasonable price! So that they wouldn't go else where. Ericsson phones in our country has a very low resale value. Not like what nokia has. I guess Ericsson better come up with better phones that has an easy GUI that is user friendly the way we Filipinos like it.
