only bad thing is the keyboard attaches with a magnet and can fall off evendo the magnet is strong however this is the first phone that aside from having windows mobile its verry fast since ive owned more than 12 windows mobile and windows is realy slow on cellphones but not on this one,,, the screen is so big you will be satisfied while browsing

I recommend that whoever buys this phone should replace the ROM with one of those cooked ROMs found in xda-developers.com. I have had mine for 18 months now. Initially, I dedicated it to data only, but now it is my primary phone - I use it with the Altec BackBeat Bluetooth headset. It is a device you either love or hate, but I have come to love it. When I read the wish list of those who bought HTC HD2 or iPad, it is like they are saying "I wish it was Advantage x7510". Critics say it is heavy. I actually love it that way - you are unlikely to crush it the way you would the thinner devices. It is also much more robust and comfortable to type on its soft keyboard - if you install the fingerboard.

Do you own this device? I do and it was a waste of money. I run a business and need to print from this device to my printer and it does NOT work. It takes literally 4 to 5 seconds to open the calculator. Camera takes awhile to open. Web browsing is a joke. With the price I paid for this device, It should do more than just sit at your desk and look pretty.

I agree with you 100%. This is the worst phone out there. Extremely slow, video is crummy, no flash, web browser is in mobile view and not desktop view. Internet explorer is crap. Opera mobile is crap. They don't over desktop view even though it has a 5" screen. A total waste of money if you ask me. Don't buy it!!!

I have this device and it was a complete waste of money. It looked nice and promising, but is extremely lacking in features. DON'T BUY IT!!! You will be sorry if you do. This device came out in 2008 and we are in the year 2010 and there is still no ROM updates for this device. No flash support. No dedicated youtube player. Windows media player is a joke. No websites use windows media player. They use flash. Web browsing using Microsoft pocket internet explorer is extremely slow. Opera mobile works okay, but does not offer desktop view. You can't print website from this device to printer. Has a program called jetcet print that says you can, but it doesn't work properly. This device costs about $1000.00 dollars in U.S. currency. HTC needs to wake up before it's too late!!!

To that person below.. you can put a sim card in these and get full internet in a pocketable phone.. 'Yes, the difference is, you can actually put this in your pocket'.. I cannot get any netbook into my pocket, I can truthfully say.. unless you have a serious daily requirement for a netbook, you will never use it.. you might buy one because it looks cool.. but it will sit on the table un-used for weeks at a time if you have a bigger computer available at home. Lets face it.. you can't play the latest games on netbooks, it's not a pleasure to use the internet on such a small screen, typing is awkward, you have to plug in an external mouse to comfortably browse.. So many people are angry.. they have a netbook.. it runs XP okay.. so why won't it do anything else?? like play sims 3 ?? it makes people so angry they take it back to the shop!! The difference with the HTC advantage is, it's not trying to be a fully flegded computer, you know what your getting.. You know you can't play the latest pc games on it.. so there is no anger in the 1st place :) It's taking time.. but the road is getting shorter.. Give it a few more years and the perfect pocketable phone/computer will surface.

it appears to be a very good one but i do not know why it hangs frequently when i use the phone even after formating it and not installing any software otherwise the screen is quit good and the performance too still the older version 7500 is more handy since it has more buttons on the device but the keyboard in the new version seems more durable again regarding the battery is not that good. i charge it daily and i am not that very heavy user

Yes BT drains battery alot i agree with that.But those wired headsets really annoying (it's just my personal opinion),i like wireless headsets,and i guess thats why X7510 has BT and support for wireless headsets with stereo profiles and so on,so its designed to be used with BT headsets.And since this phone doesnt have normal speaker for conversations over gsm/3g(i dont know why,was it so hard to put one?I dont mind to put this quite huge "phone" to my ear in public;) I use BT headset alot.And battery dies in less than 1 day,and thats really poor.

It is important to understand the theme of any device before we criticise it. The X7510 was designed primarily as a powerful PDA, which happens to have phone and camera capabilities. To compare pictures taken with this device with those taken with devices designed around photography is unfair. As regards battery life. I actually think battery life is one of the strongest selling points of the X7510. I personally do not use Bluetooth on any mobile device - they are battery killers. I get 2 full days use from a full charge and moderate use. It's phone capability is good, even though it is obviously too big to hold to your ear - which is why you need a headset with it. I find PowerPoint presentations with it awesome, especially slide show. I believe vaidisa's damning comments on the X7510 comes from a lack appreciation of the design theme.

I've been using this device for two weeks now,but I'am pissed off how laggy it is (original firmare),checking update section every day on HTC and MS sites.The battery kinda week,hardly last a day (bt on for headset) like 1Hr of browsing, 2Hr of music some calls and sms,it's really annoying to charge every damn evening.Phonebook really poor,can't add much info for a contact,can't even add a picture(have to d-load extra software for that feature,wich not work properly,or u have to buy one).Camera quite poor,there are 2MPx phones with better picture quality,like my old SE w800i.Btw after pairing BT headset they just can't connect automatically next time,u have to connect them manually every freaking time,plus u can listen to music with BT headphones no problem,but then it comes to video,sound goes not trough headset but device speakers,can't understand why.The onscreen keyboard is aweful,the hardware keyboard also kinda useless.The WMPlayer can't even play his own formats like *wmv properly,i made one clip on desktop pc with WinMovieMaker,but it won't play on device properly,drops a lot of frames,its just terrible.Also all menus aren't much user friendly or touch friendly.The IExplorer is just useless,u cant even slide page any direction,u must use side displayed sliding bars,but thank god there is Opera,witch is pretty nice,but stil no normal youtube watching.Using Skyfire browser for that(skyfire sucks as browser,but its the one browser that can display flash videos ;)).But i like X7510 huge and bright display,really loud speakers.Overall fun to play for a while,but its just not finished properly,and it just not worth that nuch money;)Thanks for reading ;)

I have had the X7510 for 2 weeks now and I think it is great. A replacement for this model should have 800x600 screen resolution. The screen is large enough for this resolution, and it would give a trully desktop experience.

Hi Wes , It's actually a 3g video & data phone integrated into a windows mobile 6 or 6.1 pocket pc / pda device which Dopod once called it a sub-notebook gadget ! that comes with a magnetic attached / detachable keyboard for your basic typing needs , for applications such as mobile words & excel , sms , mms , emailing and etc .... However it is not a normal phone that you can make & receive private calls - only speaker phone concept , and of course ear plugs jack in plus bluetooth headset . Computing applications are in mobile or miniature format but not too bad and it is still usable . Ask the seller nearest to your place if you are keen to own one but be prepared to pay for it because it is expensive compare to other pdas or handphones . Used unit is cheap though but beware of faulty sets and no warranty ! Buy new with warranty is always better but will cost you . Your choice ... Thanks for reading - jimmunsw :)

No x7510 II in production , you can verify by checking Htc homepage , but next in line coming out this year & soon is replacement model codename Htc Thoth , i hope it will be 32gb at least or 64gb even better , support mini Sd or Sd card up to 64gb also , 1ghz processor snapdragon i think , full usb 2.0 compatibility for external use of :- thumb drive , mouse , keyboard , ext. hdd , printer , ext. dvd burner ! and etc ... plus all latest os , softwares , very very smooooooth touch flow - about 90% of iphone will do , how's that for starters ..... I dont understand why some enduser of x7510, 7501 or u1000 complain about it's poor functionality and the rest . I have been using the device for a long time now and found that it's still the best pda device around with little or no problem at all . Probably they installed cooked rom that made all these problems arised , otherwise mine with the official rom is performing very well from day one . Also uninstall any softwares that is making the device lagging , i did that and my device is as fast as day one and it is still faster than any device around with as many softwares and functions attached to it . And yes you still can make normal phone calls by setting the volume button to lowest line - but on a speaker phone and not private call . And yes also you can put the device and keyboard into your breast / chest pocket . I put it into a homemade cloth sleeve and then put it into my t-shirt pocket daily with any uneasiness or problem or weightiness at all . This set is big - therefore you get a very good nice screen for video , pictures and words / excel applications . Other problems related to softwares - you need to try out which one can use and which one will give you problems - pda device is like that you see ! You will regret it only because you probably dont know how to fully use it and apply it properly , you also need help and guidance from friends , pda experts and xda developers to fully understand this powerful device - no joking ! I had an HTC Advantage and used it extensively while traveling in Egypt, Jordan and Israel. First of all, the specifications on the phone are excellent. It has a very fast processor and a lot of memory to accomplish any task that one may have for a Pocket PC Phone. It is the only phone faster than my HTC Universal. That said, it suffers from awful firmware, which does not fully take advantage of the awesome hardware of the phone. I have tried almost every firmware version out there and none of them worked quite right. Video for instance would be a great thing on this device, but the video drivers do not work properly. As a result every time I tried to watch a video, the picture was garbled and the sound was out of sync. Too bad because the screen on the phone is great-- bright, large and good resolution. Almost every other phone I have plays video better than this. The GPS unit on this phone is awful also. It takes quite some time to lock on and frequently drops the signal. Wifi is also an issue. I often could not reliably connect to various wifi spots that i could access using other smartphones such as the HTC 620 and HTC Universal. As a phone the device is OK but awkward to use because it only functions as a speakerphone. It can be used with a headset, but sometimes you may want to use it without and if you do, it will be as a speakerphone. I actually traded mine for a Nokia E90 because I got so fed up with how awful the firmware is at utilizing the amazing hardware of the device. Buyer beware: you will be disappointed.

Yes u can speak from the x7510 without earphone. There's a microphone on the left side, just under the text 16GB. I looks very stupid, but used it as a handsfree phone on your desktop and it looks very pro! :-))

Yes i agree. if HTC wants to surpass the iphone it shld add more fluidity to the touch flo, and make things snappy. The camera be it 6 or 10 megapixel would still suck as there is no resolution to the screen and they generally dont add a flash which makes it even worse.

To the last; I have a nokia e90 and a TyTN II, do not be decieved, for a phone for making and receiving calls, buy the N95 or e66, but for a utility communicator for internet, email and all that, go the microsoft HTC way very fast. the HTC simply makes my e90 a text box, don't be decieved by the 4 inch screen, its useless without a touchscreen. the htc tytn ii only has a 2.8 inch screen but it is soooooo better than e90 and usability wise its a full computer system, that's why Im looking at this for an upgrade. for chatting, emails and stuff, I am being very practical with you, RUN away from Nokia and grab the HTC, only buy spare batteries. Therere some emails you will never be able to view completely on a nokia, eg newsletters; sitepro, entireweb, etc but on HTC, its taken for granted I have the two right here with me, this is a computer while the nokia is a big size phone. I have switched my gprs SIM in both and PLEASE I can't just stay in a room and have anyone compare HTC with Nokia. By the way, Im typing at you from the HTC. BATTERY The NOkia e90 I used for full day gprs died before the end of the day - with chatting and emails and all. with the HTC, it died the next morning, considering the fact that you do more with the HTC

I will go for Nokia E90 Communicator. Advantage: 1. 800x352 pixel screen. 2. Symbian is many times better than windows. 3. Multimedia software is better. 4. DVD quality video recording and 3.2 MP Camera. 5. Pocketable. 6. Dual screen with dual keypads. 7. 3rd party applications for symbian are more than for windows. 8. Lighter. Sacrifise: 1. Screen is 5' inch here while its 4' inch in E90. 2. If u live in US then the 3G is the real problem for E90.

Well... Win mobile comes with Power Point mobile, Word mobile and Excel mobile included. The conversion from mobile to PC version is automatic if you sync trough Active sync. Anyway the mobile version can handle full version files pretty well if you just want to copy them on a micro SD card. Only thing i'm not certain is the support of the new Office 2007 .docx files

Plus, the W890 has a larger screen then the K850, so obviously the K850 will have more battery life (K850-9, W890-7to8). As well, you have to put into count that the phone is running a proper operating system, running on the fastest network (5 hours means 5 hours video phone time ON HSPA service, which means the talk time will be much longer, as well, you can manually turn off the phone's screen. That also means wLan video calling will take up less battery), and is touchsensitive, where there's a large sensor constantly scanning/on. 2100MaH should get you 9 hours of talk time. My friend has the X7501 and she and I usually battle it out when we talk, because I have the K850, and we just talk and try to see who's phone will die first all the time. She tells me turning off HSPA and the screen while using a WIRED headset completely saves the battery, however, if you're using bluetooth, it'll be a bit less, probably equivalent to talking on speaker with the screen off, or talking with a wired headset, with the screen on.

To Ronald and Jack. Yes, you can get a laptop that would perform better than this phone as a PC and can even be a little less cheaper, but I don't think that this device is trying to compete w/ laptops or is trying to replace laptops at all. This device is more of like an all-in-one device. A laptop does not have phone functionalities. A laptop is still way bigger than this one. You would look silly carrying a laptop around to take pictures and take videos. Yes, this device may be big for a phone, but it's also compact enough to carry around comfortably as a phone (w/ bluetooth headset) & video or pic camera. Though I personally would not get this device, I think there are some people out there who would want this phone for its high end all around functionalities.

I have heard that Nokia will release a new version of the E90 which will have a memory and storage like a Laptop but the price will be around usd 1200 a piece . Did you hear about that ?

@ searcy: I personally believe the best way to use this device as a phone is with the LG Style I. Its a bluetooth 'handset' very small pen-like device. It has numbers to dial with, caller ID, volume controls, and I think voice dialing. Its pretty useless with any other phone, but ideal for use with the advantage. You can find them on ebay for like $10, $5 shipping. They have black and silver. The silvet one is branded "Verizon Wireless", but don't worry it works fine with the advantage, which is GSM network. Check them out, its a great alternative to wired or bluetooth headsets.

It has it's flaws, ie no vibrate & only hands free or earpiece talking (it's not a mobile phone in that respect) but as an in car PDA/GPS/Phone/planner/video player (to keep the kids happy) it's unbeatable - I've had mine for a few months & it's faultless, I'm getting an Iphone just becasue it's not the sort of thing you want to take out with you by itself.

To whoever responded to haze: No microdrive on this one, 16 GB flash. I'm not sure about the vibrate though. I've read on xda-developers site that the x7501 indeed had a vibrate motor on the device, but was disabled, because of the microdrive obviously.

Width should have been slightly small so that it can be carried in the pocket. Processor must be powerfull enough to allow third party software like most wanted full XLS programs.

I think this unit is not bad even with very critical observation. The size is pretty much given by the 5˝screen. 16mm thickness is not bad today when SE (Sony) sells regular plain phones with this or similar thickness and people stupid enough to buy them. The battery also limits the size - remember 5˝sucks power! OS ok Thank God it is not VISTA! What I would like to see? - yes, 3.5mm jack - GPS nice but SIRF III is a must for accuracy - get it down to 13mm thickness - 5MB camera with VGA video up to 100fps - USB 2.0 or better if not already - FM radio (and why not AM also?) That is all. TOTALLY doable!!!!! If you think 5˝too big - that is understandable - see Iphone or others. Do not try to change this one. Nice to have a 5˝ on the market as well.

Can't you people see? This is the ultimate laptop, pocket pc, cellphone, mp3 player, psp, gameboy, scientific calculator, pen & notepad ( I think you see where I'm going), REPLACEMENT. All you need is the advantage x7510 (with the proper service plan) and a desktop pc. That's it. The phone weighs 375 grams. Its a beast alright, but i doubt its gonna do a lot of good if u dont always carry some sort of a bag (suitcase) , or a jacket with enormous pockets. The Xperia X1 has a weaker processor , smaller screen, but its much more portable . Also it has a 3.5mm jack. (for music fans) ( the 16 Gb isn't a big deal, memmory cards will be sufficient) All due respect to HTC , their genuises , but i'd wish if the phone becomes smaller in dimensions and lighter if it were to achieve any sort of mass market success. Also i'd like to commend them for their smart move to collaborate with SE and Microsoft to take windows mobile to its rightful position in the mobile software market.

Why won't at least one of them just bring out the ultimate PDA phone with all the fruit no holding back, I'm talking the best processor with the best touch screen, +5mp camera and usable flash, QTY keyboard and jog dial, GPS, all connectivity including IR Wifi and BT, long life battery etc etc ect, you get the point. I think I speak for us all who visit these websites when I say to the mobile phone manufacturers "don't hold back just BRING IT ON show us what you can really do!

Actually, this isn't a UMPC. It is intended as a productivity tool for business-centric users that offers a bit more flexibility than that average smartphone. HTC announced the Shift as their UMPC entry which has just started shipping in Europe. Too many people make the mistake of calling the Advantage a UMPC.

Hope will be a bit better then 7500. I have it since a year, used three months, 4 months back to seller. Now it works, but I have to soft reset at least 10 times a day. I have written so many letters to HTC but not single answer. Why sould a buy the new one???

wow how are you supposed to lug that thing around. i admit it's really cool but i don't know how exactly you can pick up a call without a bluetooth or earpiece. you know it'll cost more than what you've saved up in your allowance, but all and all nice phone i think... if you can call it a phone.

Heh...1. Anyway, this device looks like the adv should have looked at its debut. None the less the new tactile experience from the keyboard should fix the main complaint of the beautiful WM based UMPC.
