HTC Shift - User Reviews

  • is there any chance to get a new mother board of htc shift , pls help... i loved this model very much, plsssssss.............

  • It's an old timer. But the latest version Ubuntu works well. You get all the software and games and they work !!! Some drawbacks : no wifi and bluetooth ( yet) , No telephone althhough data exchange should be possible but i don't use it. A very small keyboard ( but I like that..) The WinCE part I use as calendar and does not use much power although the backlight must be dimmed every time you switch. Ubuntu can brought to sleep with the quick key. And resumes perfectly even with multiple programs open. You have multiple windows (4) in yr device and if you connect an VGA external screen also multiscreen. And last nut not least , all the Ubuntu mind twisting games. The touchscreen and mousepad are not that handy compared to an iPad. But it all works and I anjoy the use of it.

  • Yeah HTC Shift with win 8. Amazing.

  • HTC SHIFT, its a good device, i've read in the web about: "Windows 7 in shift", after this i was install it... works better then Win Vista... In my device stay in this way: -SnapVue -Windows 7 home premium PT_BR -Working all drivers -Working bluetooth, wi-fi, audio and touch -No dual boot -all in one single partition looking for on xda forums to do this

  • I'm going to start off say. I OWN and HTC I've tried out a lot of them. The HTC is wonderful. Every and I mean EVERY HTC you can voice call and video call. The features are just like an iPhone but better. And I'm posting this FROM my HTC. So all of the criticism is ridiculous when you probrobly don't even have an HTC. Cause if you did, you wouldn't be complaining. So buy this phone (: and keep it.

  • ed there is a slide to answer your just slide your hand over the thing that shows up

  • i'd like this handset design, but its hard to get this on my country.

  • I have this phone in pakistan. i purchased this in dubai, its a mini laptop but more handy! but i am not so happy about the price...

  • this type of phone is called a UMPC. i think it is a wonderful gadget, if it was available in South Africa i wouldn't mind to have one.

  • is this a fone or a mini laptop??? this is cool, amazing! are there stocks in the market here in the Philippines???

  • Hey, this phone should be called MINI LAPTOP. It got Intel processor just like normal pc. It just a bit smaller than netbook. It had no difference between a NETBOOK. Congrats HTC!

  • i am actually mobile windows owners nephew.so he just showed a newer version of window.i just suggested him to name it windows 10.as he was willing to introduce several versions before this new one which is said to be a mobile version of next windos that will be launched in 2012,told by bill gates.anyone wants it contact me.will tell my email address after asking permission to distribute the windows from my uncle.

  • i put windows 10 in it.which will launch on 21 dec 2012

  • allways battery problem

  • I put new Windows 7 in it!

  • hi how much

  • You can make voice calls - but you need to use a handsfree kit - there is no built in mic / ear piece. also there is a 3G SIM slot... whoever thiks there isn't, is a complete numpty...

  • hi, i don't think HTC Shift supports voice call. If you're sure it supports it, please advise us how to make it call via GSM network (not via Internet/Skype...). Thanks!

  • This is not a phone , u can say it is a mini prototype laptop , u can use it for call when you use application such as skype , smsdiscount ...etc in other words there is no place for sim card.

  • it says: No voice calls, data transfer only. So I guess you can't call with it. I'm not 100% sure tho. Try searching for it in some store or something and check it out. Better to ask someone who knows.

  • it is basicly a tablet pc with cell phone abilitys (yes it can do voice services to with a gsm service)

  • Please, i want to know if this device can be used for voice calls, otherwise its just a mini laptop only for data transfer. I really want to buy this phone. Please advice before i make a mistake.

  • Can we use it like a mobile phone or is it only for data transfer

  • very good opinion of htc.i like the htc. im from india.

  • Actually this device has got GPS, and you can make phone calls with it. But only with a cooked ROM. The lack of wifi on the WinMo side is bizarre though. Oh, and Windows 7 rund like a dream!

  • what is the point to have such powerful device but without build-in GPS??? people like all in one high tech high touch gadgets.

  • briliant piece of technology. But its a shsme it doesnt have a voice call. HTC work on this problem.

  • ONE MORE THING: You don't need a cell phone service with this device because the speed of the Sprint's internet is more than fast enought for Broadband Telephone Companies such as VONAGE! ( Sprint's download speed is at least 1MB per second). HTC SHIFT'S PROS: - 2.0 regular USB ( you can connet: Sprint's USB modem chip, optical computer mice, and anything else you would connect to a regular PC!) - 1 GB RAM!!!! ( just like on my 15 inch screen ACER PC) - EXTERNAL TOUCH-SCREAN DISPLAY! WHAT ELSE CAN YOU WISH FROM A MOBILE PC? 1) Make Calls (Vonage $33 month service can let you call to 60 countries!) 2) Store plenty of applications 3) Always cary the device with you!

  • This PC is AMAZING!!!! You don't need need a regular Cellular Carier with it. JUST USE SPRINT'S MOBILE INTERNET ($70 month) and Download Vonage Softphone ($33 after taxes).

  • i like features, 3g support, 16m colour disply with touch screen, win wista for ful web expereince, camera but v castly , i do not buy

  • Look, I am a phone dealer and I know for a FACT that this phone does support voice calls but ONLY on 3G, not 2G, the specs state that AND I KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

  • are u sure u can make a call from it?????? what i have to say to the dealer give me the one who can call from it?

  • Is htc shift available in india ?if yes whats the price in indian denomination i.e. In rupees

  • It's the cheapest umpc with gsm voice call today , thks to Modaco and Xda , try it , it's great - jimmunsw :)

  • i have one htc shift i need to change the cover iz it possible.

  • I bought HTC Shift last week it great it have voice call who say no? now it have voice call only 720$

  • The price should be lowered a bit to catch the indian market.. once the price is lowered the mobile will be hit in indian market

  • you can use simcard for htc shift

  • Hey if there is no voice calls, then whats the fun ?

  • How can I connect the shift with internet? Can I use "mobile sim card" in the shift?

  • Phone call with the shift is simple and easy. Just download Skype. I use my shift all the time for calls. Also, Skype to skype video calls work great. No hardware needed as the on board mic and cam do the job well.

  • i have this phone is all nice there only problem it too expensive don't invest ur money instead buy a laptop and any phone i waste 500 pounds it exactly like laptop but too fat to fit in ur pocket

  • You can in fact make calls with it. But you have to do some work.

  • You can't call or sms with this "phone" its like a mini laptop.. Btw, nice specs

  • no, read specifications it's writen there '' no voice calls, data transfer only

  • can you make phone calls or send texts

  • Wow, this is a real piece !! This is called art, power and status all together in one! The hottest hit in the year !

  • any idea of upcoming model for windows 7?

  • yes, this is a really notebook. powerful compare to other brand, there's a lot of cheap notebook out of the market but this htc shift, i think you'll never regret.

  • it has, you can use this camera in ym, msn, skype.....

  • os is vista business, try this htc shift, small but intellegent...

  • this is not a phone, it is a small notebook that can use a sim card. this htc shift has a operating system of vista ultimate. you can receive and sent a txt message but you can't use a phone. fyi

  • Its very nice.

  • does it have a camera

  • How do you update to make the voice call?

  • yes it is much better than other devices with its size but when it comes to battery, i found others with battery staying upto 4 hours, can make phone calls, 3 levels of display reslution, more clear display, more hardisk capacity upto 120GB, recovery CDs, has GPD, more accessories, more reliable thumb scan, more accessible buttons on device but no attached keyboard, not slim as the shift, warrenty is two years and international and one year on battery i used both of them and i am still keeping the shift

  • Hi there, is there any news about the ability to make and receive phone calls? I think it's not so difficult for HTC to make that.

  • The Htc shift will work on Tmobile and AT&T's data network using EDGE. EDGE is a slower data network. However, this device can work on AT&T's faster data network using 3G using850 band. Unfourtunately, Tmobile's faster3G runs on the 1700 band.

  • da bomb

  • What????? It doesnot support voice calls....??

  • nope

  • is there any providers that work for data on this device in the U.S?

  • Yes, but it's not suported by HTC, check xda developers ;)

  • Is this model have a internal GPS antena?

  • I think all of features available in this product. Nice model, nice look, nice features, attractive, worthy hard disk, processer..... that means all features are available in this model.........but it is dumb.........we can't use if a single voice call.

  • there is a website name dhgate and is from china try ther maybe you get one it's safe

  • hey can anyone tell me how much this phone would cost to buy and do u have to be with a network like AT&T or someone like that. if anyone can answer these questions for me then thanks alot.

  • hey can anyone tell me how much this phone would cost to buy and do u have to be with a network like AT&T or someone like that. if anyone can answer these questions for me then thanks alot.

  • anybody have any idees where i can find the drivers for windows xp? especialy wifi and bloutooth?.Thanks

  • Windows XP Installation for HTC Shift:

  • that's only for the data transfers..whether the country support's 3G or not.

  • cause it's a data device...GSM for data transfer

  • why would it have GSM support if its not a phone?

  • It's not really a phone if you can't make phone calls... I'd assume if you can't call you can't really text either...

  • Did you ever hear about VoIP? :o)

  • if one cant recieve or make calls, how can it be a phone?

  • Hi, I'm a prospective owner of a Shift "fone", I just wanna find out if one can install other software e.g,(Windows XP) other than Vista? The garget is magnificent..

  • pls i seem to fall in love with this mini laptop but i've never seen any where it is sold in nigeria i've even asked for it, the vendors keep on asking me whether there is a phone model called htc, may be it's because of the low market demand for it over here. i'm really in love with this mini but i would like to know if it accepts a smartcard for internet conectivity. pls send ur reply to ([email protected]) i'm waiting.......victor

  • This is NOT a cell phone. This is a mini laptop that uses GSM cell signals & WiFi to access the internet. You CANNOT make or recieve calls....

  • it's not mobile, you should say it is mini laptop, how can we carry it!!!

  • Hi, just to say that if you connect it to a pcyou can put any file on it.

  • can somebody please help me how to use the fingerprint scanner instead of the password as security code?thanks...

  • Is it possible to synchronise this device with a dektop, as we do for a classic PDa , using Activesync by instance ?

  • i dont think this is a phone at all! its a small laptop and u cnt mke calls. ive had ths "fone" 4 lke 2 months now all i can say is THIS IS THE BEST!!!!!

  • I don't understand why people are still asking if this can make calls, where in fact they can clearly read on the specs "No voice calls". What part of that phrase didn't you understand? I used this for a week and didn't like it much. Buy a laptop, bigger screen, more memory, more hard drive space, the list goes on.

  • i want to know if anybody tried to install chikka at this item? chikka = free sms messenger

  • it is good one

  • I like it so much but can make a call with this phone?

  • Hi..THis device looks nice and handy ... If any one know the price of it ..plz let me know..

  • With Windows Vista it was a big mistake!!! The compter is working slow!!!

  • its like a notebook its better to buy note book.

  • hi all can i make phone call with this mobile can i make calls???????????? because it's mention no calls so can you help please

  • is this a phone?

  • not sure who you are that said it's a phone, there is no voice so you obviously dont have one.

  • i like this phon ???

  • I have this phone for 2 weeks now and I can say that..........IT,S THE BEST PHONE EVER!

  • i have it and it's a phone, i repeat it's a phone, get one and u'll know that

  • This Mini Laptop absolutely rocks if u want to use this as a laptop and not a phone as its not really functional to carry this big a devise to say a party with the headphones attached to ur ears.looks clumzey and big.good for those ppl who are stationed in one place for a long time and not on a move.go for nokia e71 rather.

  • i think its 4 business pc, not mobile phone.only mobile.but pc's have entertainment also. if there is no phone atleast mobile with entertainment is good. totally not bad.

  • I like it. can it take 8gb memory cards?

  • does it takke simcard... like can u use network data plans?

  • Aww, you cant make voice calls with this uber cool gadget :(

  • People should check out the good ole HPTC1100 its nb/tablet and umpc all in one!! You can install vista on it, up to 2GB RAM, and because they are an older line, you can grab one on ebay for about $400! (I did) Thats 1/4 of the price of a shift! I have a 3G PPC that I plug in when I need to surf in the wild. The eee mentioned above is also a cost effective option but you dont get that tablet functionality.

  • Can I use Microsoft Office in HTC Shift

  • Why don't you go for Asus eeepc 1000 plus any 3g/HADPA Cellphone that connects to it through bluetooth, then add 32gb SD card to beef up eeepc storage. All that come out a lot cheaper than this, its way overpriced!!! EEE PC has Windows XP and is about the same size as this, with larger keyboard, camera, wifi, bluetooth but no touch screen (just get a Sony Erricson P1i for that novelty).

  • once and for all.... you can only data call from this device, gsm/3g voice calls are not possible, however VoIP software can be used (Skype etc!)

  • Its really looking good and looks like a mini laptop. Is image quality is good by using VGA Camera.

  • How-to upgrade Shift's hard drive to 100GB tutorial:

  • looks really cool... i will buy it. all problem is the VISTA, i would prefer windows XP more then it. if the prcessor could be a little more advance then it would be my favorite MOBILE PC!!!!

  • It says on the specs on top.. no voice calls support and i've confirmed it with HTC that only internet calling works with this medel.

  • Ok... I have read it. Plus in the specs it says: Ringtones Type Polyphonic, MP3 Customization Download /Vibration Yes / Dual speakers- But the truth is that once you go thought the users manual, it says nothing regards phone call, is it odd? So how doesnt it function? Is it in SnapVue?

  • Is this a phone as well??

  • I don't know why everybody is asking if it is a phone or not!!!!!!!! kindly look at these 2 sentence in the specs please... I'm begging you people pls read!!! "Practically unlimited entries and fields, Photocall" "VGA, 640x480 pixels videocall camera"

  • well, if it has a VGA camera for video calls then i would assume that you able to also make calls... BR

  • WARNING! very bad websites www.seller008.com and www.viewkoo.com. They do not shipping after you payment.

  • 23 Pages of comments since march last year asking if this device can be used as a phone or wether it is a phone. Truth be told I don't know.

  • Hi... Can everyone tell, is this phone? I heard the seller told that I cannot receive and making call. Is it tiny laptop or mobile phone?

  • Forgot to mention. When you put in your sim card you cant make or receive calls but u can texts and email. It automatically find the settings for the network and once thats sorted you can browse the net through that in Vista

  • Ive have one of these to evaluate for college. Pretty nice and to say its got vista on there it runs smoothly. Its got both vista and Win Mobile and they both sync with each other. Only thing is that when you shut down Vista, the mobile side of it is still active which runs down the battery quite quickly. I have to remove the battery and put it back in to switch it off totally. Using the touch pad can takes a lil getting used to. It gets hot to quick and the F11 key is missing which is awkward when you want to go full screen when browsing the net.

  • i want to know something more about htc shift my email eid is [email protected]

  • 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 it is the phone.

  • Mariano can you tell us how u have used the phone fuction ? I really have tried but can't...

  • It does't have phone funtion.... I also have bought one thinking like that.. This GSMAREANA website Administrators have to correct the specification about Shift they have Only metioned its windows Mobile 6.0 and windows vista. but this is not windows mobole 6.0 its a limited version called SNAPVUE.. which doesn't support bluetooth, wifi or call function in SNAPVUE...

  • Sorry! its doeen't have call function only SMS and Outlook.. I also thought it have voice fuction as GSM Areana it metioned Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Vista this is a marketing game. This phone doesn't support phone function to all operators. Actually they have created a limited verion of Windows mobile 6 named as Snapvue. So to all who says it can make calls in Snapvue I BET....

  • yes of course it's a fone I have it

  • htc have make me mad its best ppc but we can make call its very very very bad

  • well you cant from the normal mode but if you go into vista you can do anything you can on a normal pc hence you could install something like skype and hey presto its a phone!

  • Not in the traditional sense, only will make data calls.

  • Not in the traditional sense, only will make data calls.

  • it's umpc..

  • sry mr. vogel....IT IS A PHONE!!!!

  • is it possible to load and use microsoft database application ? can i load windows office incluing access onto this machine and will it work weel

  • it's NOT a phone. You can NOT call with it.

  • There is voice calls you just have you use a bluetooth to make them!

  • there are no voice calls on this phone.. :( no mic. no speaker. no voice calls.

  • features are very good but sadly it dosent have voice function

  • Its a GSM phone, you can make/recieve calls, send/recieve messages. I know it doesnt look like a tradicional mobile phone but it is.

  • You cannot call from this device. Not a cellphone.

  • I have a question that i hope some one can help me with an awnser does the memory card (transflash) fit in the slot of the SDIO???

  • This not a phone and if yes how do you make calls and recieve calls.

  • supperb phone.. waiting to be launced in India soon.. amazing piece.. nothing like this..

  • hi how to make a call from shift

  • Great mobile, great mini laptop...

  • It's Excelent I'm very very interest

  • how does it compare to flybook

  • HTC im speechles this phone is to dream about..

  • yeah the oqo looks very nice, yeah but i think this HTS' keyboard would b easier to use.

  • No the OQO E2 wouldn't cut it for me either: "thumb keyboard". I want to type normally (6 fingers!) like I do on my HP Jornada 728. Its keys are 14.4mm wide - HP says "Comfortable touch-typeable keyboard (3/4 full-size)"

  • Guys its a bad phone & is a flop, but if you like the idea of ultra mobile pc then I tell you one which is guaranteed far better than this crap in every aspect which is "OQO E2 (HSDPA version)" check out yourself at www.oqo.com & let me know what do you think?

  • This might have FINALLY replaced my trusty HP Jornada 728 (vintage 2001), except at 129x25 it definitely won't fit in my back pocket. So close though! A DVD case (135x15) is just a bit too tight. So 129x15 would have fit, or 120x25.

  • hard 2 believe its a phone. looks like my laptop.

  • I love it too but its 900.00 I guess ill have to buy an Asus Eee pc instead, damn :(

  • sooooo sexy moptop(Mobile Phone Laptop) lol grrr need to buy need to buy need to buy, i dnt mind using a bluetooth headset coz im always using one anyway eheheh imagine bringing your laptop and bringing your mobile phone thats a hassle thats what i always do eheheh so atleast on shift i can just cary one gadget around the whole day that i can use to call and program/surf/chat/edit document/play games :D

  • This IS a phone. It uses bluetooth just like the Advantage. It has a built in speaker phone, but you cannot put it up to your ear and talk like a traditional phone. It is a bit bulky, but it has it all! Cant wait to upgrade from my Advantage to this one!

  • this is not a mobile phone so plz don't buy it in case of use phone dail .this is computer

  • it is with phone function.

  • This is really a great umpc, but it's not a phone. Why is it in gsmarena? If it can only send sms and not make a phone call what's the point of it being all in one. I can understand that it's too big to put up to your ear but that's why we have earpieces and bluetooths... was really dissapointed when you can't call anyone through it.

  • yeah im agrre with you indra , this is a umpc but im really like this produxt, too bad battery life only can using for 2hours

  • incredible phone.windows vista??thats just incredible...definately gonna buy 1..

  • its not possible that the shift can't make calls....that would be stupid....

  • i bought this phone today.htc shift cant make a call just send n receive sms.so i think htc shift not a pda phone or handphone

  • for Razors: You would look stupid... but i'd stil envy you for such a phone :)

  • shift can make call ?

  • How about GPS? Is it built-in?

  • This phone have all the features. No need for the laptop.

  • WOOOO.... what the #%&*, imagine how it look when you make a call with a laptop size phone....

  • I think it is to big for the function that have..

  • Does it really use windows vista? If yes that really impressive considering the great battery life :)

  • must have a bag i think

  • lol everyone, why do all care about phone options on this? it isnt practical, i mean it is a tablet pc, think of it as a mini laptop for on the go purposes. at least thats how i use it. whatever, i save my phone calls for my much smaller htc touch.

  • This is just a guess but the phone might work as some of the Handheld computers and you have to connect it through bluetooth to another phone before being able to call. I'm not sure, I don't have the phone, so it's just a guess.

  • to big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My GOD!!! Please help me! I just spent a fortune on this machine, bought it thinking that it has a phone too! I've not been able to use a phone if it has one! DOES IT HAVE A PHONE OR NO?????

  • too big!!!

  • Also one more thing Bluetooth is available only under Vista not in PDA modem, so how can you connect a Bluetooth headset in PDA modem to be able to dial ?

  • Same here , I have been using this for 1 month now.. There is no phone call option. So if somebody can make a call can you explain to us how to do it ? If not stop the BS.

  • I have just received my Shift and it appears that the manual does not have any section which talks about how to make a phone/voice call with it. Therefore, for those of you who have been able to make and receive a call with the shift, could you please send the procedures on how you were able to do it, especially ken who has really done a lot of testing with the Shift? Yaw P

  • It is written in the description 2G network and 3G network so it's a Phone, a smart one, :X.

  • can someonbe tell me the battery life on this phone thanks

  • ok at it's written: "Card Slots 1.8/3V USIM/SIM card slot..." so it should have a phone option, also on a preview watched by me at it says that you can talk on it ... (its better by bluetooth hadsfree - 0.8kg for a hand phone it's way too much ;P )

  • yes.. it is a phone.. a pda phone.. my cousin have it.. similar to O2 shift..

  • why have fone book and call records if no fone capability

  • it s not a phone...only text messaging and bloetooth

  • Jim A--are you sure you made a call?? Everyone and all websites are saying the Shift does not have the phone function. Can you post a video showing yourself making a call?

  • Its a Supperb phone.. it says the world is not at an end. there lots more to come from HTC.. and waiting to be launced in INDIA sooonnn..

  • i have heard nothing but great things about this phone, so i am going to buy one next week, i can't wait to get it because i think it is a beast. Does this phone have gps built in? but really with a 40gb hdd who really cares. two thumbs up htc, a joc well done

  • Just got my Shift this week and it is awesome. For those saying it's not a phone, well after making my first call I can confirm it is. Phone, SMS messaging, 3G video call, and of course the SIM works as a modem for dial-up internet in Vista seamlessly. So, it's a mobile tablet with fully-featured telephony as well as data. That being said, anyone buying this to use as a primary phone is an idiot. Relying on a bluetooth headset with no capability to use it as a phone when your headset battery is dead is just not viable. What it is great at is a very small lightweight laptop to take on the road - seamless email and internet access via either wired, wireless or dial-up. A fully functioned O/S to allow you to edit documents on the go and VGA out for presentations makes it the perfect portable for road-warriors like me. USB and SD expandability - not tried this yet but ReadyBoost in Vista in theory allows you to use USB or SD as additional RAM for performance gains - I will come back and report if I get this working. The screen is great - been re-watching Heroes and although the speakers are a little tinny they are no more so than a standard laptop, and fine with headphones. Tablet functions are great as expected. I've been happily emailing and IM'ing via the tablet / pen interface which is much more immediate and satisfying. The handwriting recognition is pretty astounding it must be said. I have trouble getting my wife to understand my spider-scrawl but Vista has proven about 99.55% accurate without my even finishing all of the handwriting tests. The only negative I would say is the thumb-pad mouse which is not very accurate, but a relatively small complaint as i'm mostly using it as a tablet, and of course it fully supports my external USB/Bluetooth mouse which is fine. The keyboard is also not great - but usable for short periods and again works fine with my fold-out bluetooth keyboard. The thumbprint security device is also excellent - not only saves you having to re-type complicated passwords, but also is built right into the OS allowing you to encrypt individual files! All in all it's a great device - but for the job it's intended for, which is as a very lightweight laptop replacement or for those specifically requiring tablet functionality. I would never buy this for personal use - it's for work only and fills the gap perfectly between my very heavyweight HP NC8430, and my HTC TytnII.

  • Yes is running Vista, and is very well integrated with SNAPvue.. I have a feeling if os is replaced the system will not function properly. But is actually running very smooth very well put together. The GSM is almost always on, I am waiting to see the charges from T-Mobile The device is kind a heavy, but comes with a beautiful leather caring case

  • does it have to use vista. can it use an earilyer windows mobile as visa is such a dog to use.

  • I have just received my SHIFT today. Looks great, but no VOICE CALL capability. In SnapVUE mode, under contacts, if you select one, you get the option to CALL !!! go figure, but will not dial. Overall looks really good, very solid, plastic enclosure. Has a VGA output connector, and one USB. Just playing with the device in 20 minutes the battery dropped to 75%... Personally I think OQO2 is a better system, and has capability for Verizon or ATT

  • I have played with this device, it has NO phone call functionality. You use the sim for data transfer.

  • if it doesnt support voice why the hell would it have ringtones lmao

  • it price is around 1,500 USD

  • is this version of vista any better then the one on actual pcs and notebooks?

  • A Nice Device But How Much Is It ?

  • yup.asus "Eee laptop" is the smallest it will do the lot for u.

  • Just called HTC Support here in norway. The device is coming to this cold country in about two weeks. So i called them and asked them about the VOICE calling on the Shift and support guy said "IT HAS NO VOICE CALL". So there you got it , called them 10 mins ago and thats what they said. (you can still make calls via skype).

  • Based on the official specs from htc it does support quad band besides hsdpa.

  • hi everybody is there any pocket pc that support talyy acconting programe i m in africa n it is not easy to carry laptop so i m loooking pocket pc that support talyy so im can take my accounts with me thanks and is there any laptop smallest size that can fit in my pocket thanx

  • Definately a phone to have!

  • I dont really think its very handy used as a phone, a laptop would be definately better

  • Nice device!! It's a shame its got a lame @ss camera...

  • Isn't 800gms a bit heavy? Imagine the weight in your pocket.

  • Official word for this device at the moment is that it will not support a phone feature.

  • I can tell you for a fact that it will not support phone calls.

  • It won't work as a GSM / 3 G phone for voice calls , the SIM slot is just for GSM/EDGE/3G/HSDPA - data transfer , if service is offered by the mobile provider

  • this will going to cost a fortune...

  • here is all the features of this phone ... www.eclub69.com

  • Here's a pic of the SIM slot. And here's a nice video review of HTC Shift Enjoy!

  • Alrite, Confirmed that Shift has mobile phone features. Copy Paste The above link and see that in the specifications. It does have a SIM card slot. Hurray!!

  • It says Quadband GSM support. Now why would it have that if it were not to make phone calls with. Correct me if wrong.

  • Tis is Nokia N810 with sim card slot .. Cool

  • Oops. I mean "EmailJack278 2008-02-12 18:55 NSgQ "'s message.

  • Well looking at "2008-02-13 01:54 4PHD"'s entry. It would appear that it does make phone calls, but I just got off the phone with HTC teck support in the US and I was told that it will not make phone calls. This is a very confusing area that I think now it doesn't matter what we the people think it does until it comes out and we have confirmed proof that it either does or does not. Me personally, I need a phone and a computer in one. I really hope it does do both.

  • This can easily be an awesome gaming computer, for games that can run on most simple computers. Its got VGA out so you can even hook it up to a portable projector or anything. Bluetooth, so you can have bluetooth keyboard/mouse and headset...its pretty much the Ultimage Computer Phone

  • Yes it is a great idea! But it is basically a lap top. I wouldn't want to have this in my pocket. It would be nice for a buisness man that travels alot and needs internet access or something like that

  • It can make voice calls, but only via head set, here is reply from HTC when I wrote them regarding this question. Hello Jack, Thank you for your inquiry First and foremost let me thank you for your interest in our line of products. The HTC Shift can make voice call, but only via the headset and not the device itself. Just to let you know, for more information on your device you can always check www.htcwiki.com. I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions. HTC Technical Support

  • Peterlisbon This phone can make calls. Dude there is now way u can send an SMS withut having a network operator !!!! wake up !!!!!!!!!!! (Maybe look at its 2G and 3G networks ?????????????? LOL ?????) THE HTC shift is a super-phone. I think its the future. The problems that i see in it are the fact that it has a miserable camera, and, obviously the price tag thats gonna come with it. The nokia N810, on the other hand, is NOT a phone.

  • well i like it, but i hear the rumours that it does not make calls and i want to know

  • did this phone win phone of the year award?because it should have.i also think that htc should do a combination with sony ericsson preferably a sony"W"series "HTC" combination. just imagine a virtual walkman computer in your pockect.tell me what you all think.because i have alot more tech ideas

  • The Specs shows GSM bandwith but this is because you can SMS and do Those who insist that you can make a GSM Phone Call, please let me know which page in the manual guides the user to make a phone call.

  • Errrmm... No... ! It's not mobile phone! You can put a SIM card but only for data connections. If you want voice calls intall SKYPE and connect via 3G or WIFI. So, before you buy, think if is that what you want ;)

  • and its make calls!!! a laptop and a phone, 2 in one

  • Execelent phone capabilities. Voice is just as good as any cellular. except you must use a bluetoth headset of some sort, to be able to use it at its optimal. Those claiming its not haveing voice capeabilities, should investigate a little more, perhaps contact htc themselfs. Windows Mobile + Bluetooth yeah thats usefull on a laptop. no its not, its execelent when in cellular mode, how ewer the problem is that it proberly comes in different versions depending on locations and isp/providers.

  • This is a full fledged laptop running dual operating systems.Windows Vista and windows pocket pc 6.

  • This is not a phone. It is effectively a laptop with built in datacard. Trust me, I've used one.

  • it is a phone with full voice call capability see meows post on the 24/01 at 15:02

  • It is not a phone.

  • I dont know why it cant make calls??? It just a small expensive laptop only but it has 2 more feature,, GPS and a touch screen and its battary life is 2 hours working on vista!!!!

  • Its seems to be very good phone I have Nokia N93 and this phone will be next for me but i am afraid of some things 1-The battary life while i am working on windows and open many aplications.... 2-Can i setup any (.exe) files like winamp.exe or any other aplication like my pc 3-what about the vedio call camera does it works to still pictures and vedio recorder also? 4-Can i hold it in my pocket or its need a carrier?

  • Guys, Let me know clearly if this can be used like a normal phone to make calls.. if not there is not point in me buying this... :(

  • like the specs plus it can make normal phone calls thats cool just wonder whats next for the mobile arena

  • very buti and nice phone this is a

  • Mann this phone seems to be kool, reading the features makes me want it even more!~!~

  • how's e batt life of tis gadget?

  • juz got verbal confirmation fm htc taiwan tat tis fone supports normal voice calls + video calls + internet calls! great news, seems like i'm more determine 2 get it tis time!

  • the only reason why the shift is not in stores is that there is a prob with the WI-FI, but my question is can you upgrade the HDD as 30Gb is so small can the SHIFT take a 120GB?

  • Very good machine, but dear friends, I'm not using QWERTY keypad, and haven't intention to do that...because touch screen is what I need. Currently I'm using MDA Pro and my dream is new one, similar to HTC Shift. Without QWERTY keypad, I think is possibility to do smaller and not so heavy HTC... Could be similar to Iphone. Could be an excellent ...mobile phone & Pocket PC... Thanks & good luck

  • pardon me! can tis fone make normal fone calls?

  • I really love HTC, and that having been said i work in a shop that sells mobile phones so i work with every tipe of phone there is. I've never worked with a SHIFT though and can some one tell me what the battery life is on it, aswell as how is the OS

  • I have an htc shift, 60gb, and using the other os on it, the one except vista, i spoke to my friend on the phone. Its not really a miniUSB port, its anormal one u would find on a pc, so i managed to plug in jacks and a microphone through the USB port and i could speak+i can make sms too.

  • Why HTC didn't make this one with phone function. This would make the item perfect as we don't need to carry too many gadgets while we travel.

  • guys this is not a cell phone though u can send sms & mms , making calls is not possible. Can compare this to a mini laptop wid usb will have to use a sim card with 3G network services, in short this is a gadget u can carry as ur office in ur pocket, not sure about the pricing but as an HTC product shoul suit middle budget, still to launch so not sure about bugs specially the hdd part having a 30 gb so might be slower than normal though it promises a 1 gb ram so wait n watch can be worth a buy

  • actually it has 40 GB (cheaper version) or 60 GB HDD !!!

  • This is not a phone. According to HTC, this a mobile computer capable of connecting to the Internet using 3G networks with a USIM/SIM card, or WIFI. It can also send/receive SMS, but it is not possible to make regular phone calls through a cellular network -GSM/3G/UTMS etc.

  • What is the reason for NO RELEASEd yet?...

  • it's not possible to call with this "phone"

  • it's high tec. and smart application

  • It's not actually a phone... if you read the review at coolsmartphone.com, it seems unable to make calls. it is a UMPC.

  • I dont know, this phone is so far the best phone on the market

  • it sounds cool hope to get one for cheap.

  • Welll.... I can see HTC Shift a good start to reduce prices of notebooks and have a good advantage to have all-in-one as phone, PC with brandwith and many other things.... coming to Brasil, I will be to purchase!!! Congratulations for HTC!! Joao Figueira

  • It's 800gms of weight. Who the hell is going to use the CELFON of this weight. And the price is 1,500 US$. I would rather go for Fujitsu very compact laptop

  • now dis is fone which replace sony ux series or oqo n etc

  • If you want an alternative for this one, considering a very tight budget, then go for the ASUS EeePC. usb ports, webcam, lan port, wifi 802.11b/g, mic, card reader speaker, up to 1 gig RAM and 7inch color tft display, though the 8gig hdd might set you back. But still considering its size which is only around 9-10inches. its not really bad after all for a gadget like this which costs only Php18,000.00 (for the 4gig hdd model) or Usd435. I can say its the gadget for those who can't afford hi-end laptop but really wants something close to it. Check out www.asus.com

  • Well i think this fone is quite caught up between being a mobile fone and a laptop. It's almost cool, but the price will really set you back. Furthermore, this one is pushed in the wrong arena. I mean this site is for mobile fones that works extra with images, video, music and making documents portable, so this one should be on another level. Coz its more like a umpc than a smartphone to me.

  • This is the perfect device minus the useless cell phone functionality for me...other than that it's small enough and portable enough to replace my PMP and with the keyboard is perfect laptop replacement cause i can still get work done. would be better if had a larger screen(between 8-10") but i wont complain...cant wait for it to be released. just praying it wont be priced out of my budget.

  • now that's one hell of a phone!! i was almost looking for a mouse in th pic!!!

  • Maybe a competitor of Sony UX or the last of HP???

  • Ok, this is for example, a Nokia Internet tablet N770 or N800 competitor, and not a Nokia N95 competitor???

  • rather then saying mobile it will problly worht saying this as mini lap top ,this wont be a biggest on hit on the market along the big boss nokia and SE coz its clerlly indicates windows doest have the creativity on making mobiles

  • At this price I buy one DELL laptop CORE2DUO 2G RAM and NVIDIA 8600GT...and one Phone Nokia!... "HTC, go back to the drawing board, and start from scratch. You need to limit the size and weight to that of HTC Advantage at max. Then, you need to put in GPS, minimum 4 MP Camera, FM and AM radio, TV tuner, 802.11n, Bluetooth version 2 minimum, Infra(to allow the device to be used for opening garage door, using Television, etc), and have mimimum 10 hours of continual use battery life. Of course, HSDPA and the lots. Don't worry about Vista. Use Window Mobile 7 (ce6 based OS) instead. If I needd Vista, I can always use remote desktop so it is not necessary to have a bloatware on this device. Also, team up with the folks in Java and micromedia to have the most up to date software to do real youtube and run webpages for stock trading on WM7 itself. Do the above exactly, and you have a truly wonderful product."EXCELENT!This is also my opinion!Regards!

  • OK first off this device has NO Voice capabilities.. so those of you thinking you can just use it as a phone, you're wrong. the sim card will be for data services only, such as 3G intenet, sms, email etc. you would want to have a separate phone. It is ultimately a UMPC. for those of you who dont know what that is, inform yourself before you comment. ALSO.... watch the gottabemobile video review before making any assumptions. this device is for people who love gadgets and are on the go. UMPC!!! its not a miracle, its designed for a specific purpose. being able to update an Excel or Pwrpoint document while walking to a presentation would make that $1500 worth it. peace.

  • here is the video review of this device, take a first look at it.

  • engadgets' review saying this phone cost around $1500 US. Pshhhhhh! @ that price I would rather buy Sony's smallest laptop and a slimmiess phone. The battery is too weak for Windows Vista and is too big too hold and punch the keyboard and too small to use it as a laptop. upcoming laptop generation will have GSM Card slot and allow you to make phone calls. peace

  • This phone is the ultimate, nomater what anyone saya, it is a mobile phone and beats anything on the market, like the awfull iphone or usless n95. It does ewerything what a propper gadget is supposed to do.

  • HTC shift specification

  • how are you going to talk in a 7 inch mobile phone? which pocket will it ultimately fit in???? this is, if something a very compact laptop, and very poor specs wise, but i can't see how am i going to use it as a mobile, unless i use it as a mobile while working on the laptop. very weird from htc, what are their expectations for this thing? i mean the specs of the laptop are very poor ,but the size of the screen is legendary. this is the first 7 inch laptop. one question comes to mind. how practical is the keyboard?? i would go for my 12 inches Vaio or even 14 inches Acer before coming to the 7 inches slow processor HTC. this is a very risky product from HTC i hope they know what they're doing

  • This will be a failed product, I'm very sure. At this size, weight, and with this battery life, it cannot be used as a phone. It does not have an acceptable camera for picture and video taking (not taking about professional quality but certainly for ad hoc use). HTC, go back to the drawing board, and start from scratch. Do the above exactly, and you have a truly wonderful product.

  • can you upgrade it?

  • Does anyone knows about the weight and baterry stand by?

  • "woh i m impresed, its laptop than a mobile" i m not saying this.. somebody is saying this.. i say its like laptop, so will its weight will also be like laptop..

  • Here is a news about it would release in the middle of Dec in Taiwan, and the price of Shift would be more than NT$40,000 (about $1,200)

  • is it available in hyderabad, india

  • Hi, I read this this has a Standalone GPS. I wanted to know what a Standalone GPS is? Also will i have to pay to use the gps service? Thanks!

  • wow, i'm impressed... its more like a laptop than a cellphone with its specs + quadband.

  • That looks cool. How about the price? Can we set up any progams that we can possibly set up onto the normal PCs? Can we use the flash drive normal size with HTC shift? How is the camera?

  • It can run other windows and what about messaging

  • wow, I'm speachless

  • Hope that they could update this product like the specs of Sony Vaio UX umpc.

  • A joke?Vista can run decent with only 800Mhz?...The ASUS R2HV A1 have one better processor, at 1000Mhz, and run VISTA awful...

  • Touch screen no phone calls, and doesnt fit in your pocket

  • With windows vista? Thats gonna cost at least a grand, my guess is around 1400 dollars, lol, for that i could gemma self a real notebook

  • this is a step on shifting laptop users to PDA's . to HTC pls enhance this kind of unit on using for call and another is add a lil' flavor un putting an FM/AM radio..the vista type OS is an "A" for me considering that its size. also adding a mouse port can make it a user friendly to those who are not very good in tabbings..anyway if its a touch screen then its OK to not have it but can u put a USB port also ^^.. tnx HTC for your technology

  • Battery lasts 3 hours in Vista mode and SEVEN DAYS (!) in phone mode. It will not fit in your pocket, better probably to carry in a satchel and use with a bluetooth headset.

  • very nice, but how do i make phone calls? will it fit in a normal pocket? also how much does this cost?

  • welcome to the future evry 1 ^_^

  • Does anyone knows how long the batteries last? Also, does it use a mouse or touch screen? Looks too larg to me for a PDA, but anyways, this is a great way to start shifting from laptops to Pda's, that's why they called it the shift. I wish they can also install xp on the advantage, its smaller then he shift.

  • This looks like a real winner. The ability to move between Vista and Windows mobile is excellent. While travelling, it means you can take advantage of the longer battery life Windows Mobile will give the Shift while still being able to browse the web, open documents and deal with your email. But then you can switch to Vista to view all those websites that aren't configured for mobiles, as well as being able to view it all on a decent sized screen. HTC's touch screen on its Tytn II is excellent, if this is as good, it'll be very useful too.

  • WOW.....it is just sooooooo cooooooool......i mean such a small thing can run vista wow.....ill have it someday for sure.......Chao.....

  • is this a mobile with video calling also and what about the battery and talktime

  • simple Owns everything

  • on the htc site they also say that it got standalone gps plus you can get a 40 or 60 gig and if that is tru then iam gonna get one even if its gonna cost me a leg i would gif my armss for free whahahahaha

  • hey this phone can have also calling function because without calling function callrecording is not posible

  • Get this thing if u dont have a laptop, considering u are not a gamer.

  • asus Eee pc is just what I want - a small, cheap thin client. I think this one will be on my xmas list. htc shift is expansive.

  • Have posibility to run windows XP on it?...For speed improuvement...

  • ....its not a phone, it doesnt even have voice capabilities...

  • htc did two big mistake 1)no fm radio, 2)camera is just 1.2mp. if they improve this mistake htc shift is going to rock.

  • just got some in for testing, awesome product.

  • wat i dontget is datits called a fone, iuf u cant cal ppl?

  • This is awesome. But there is no way I would be tempted to buy this as I don't have that big pocket. HTC is definitely going to outclass Nokia and all other PDA manufacturers. I guess Nokia will have tough time soon in every segment as Motorola is also coming up with very nice models in mid to high range mobiles. Nokia will be confined to selling its 1100 and 1600 models in Chinese and Indian markets. Wake up Nokia, Don't become another Ericsson.

  • you people dont pay attention do you, its not a phone, it doesnt even have voice capabilities, it is a umpc so quit complaining!

  • Is this an optical illusion of a phone and a laptop?

  • I am posting from this beauty, its an awesome device but i wouldnt buy one. Its good for business people on the move. The GPS is cool because of the size of the screen.

  • This is an incredible device, but it's too big for normal phone,it's gonna be cool if the size can be reduced.i love the features.

  • you buy this because of its combination of light weight (800 ounces), connectivity options and computing power. Do not compare it to a regular laptop people!

  • it look good but win vista software run too slow, software got something need to be fix,who like to spent money on this why don't u buy a laptop.

  • just one word " AMAZING "

  • New info available on htc.com. Thus it will be for sale verry shortly. It has standalone gps!!

  • If you look at Vista on a normal PC, it can use external memory as RAM memory, so maybe the Shift can reed the SD card the same way. I sure hope so because if it can't then it indeed will be to slow.

  • I look at the video again. It took 3 min to the login screen.........from resume (guessing hibernation mode) NOT boot. Better hope Vista doesn't crash.

  • Thanks for the video. Did anyone time how long it takes for Vista to boot?

  • People all the info you will ever need about the HTC Shift is online on a Australian site: demonstration video. Th shift is the best invention since sliced bread, I'm not kidding!

  • some people are comparing this wif some kind of a super gadget or something... UMPC wif satisfying batt life is already ok. but for some reason, people want GPS, 5mp cam and more powerful processor......

  • This thing is so underpower for Vista and people are drooling over this? This config is perfect for Window Mobile but definately NOT Vista.

  • Hi im david i willing to talk htc compony but i will htc gps tecnolagi soon thank you...

  • No GPS hmmhh. 30 mm thick hmmmh. No 802.11 n hmmh. Older than what ever 1.2 MP videocall camera hmmh (5Mpix is must for new PDA/phones, takes same space than 1.2 but comes with autofocus and 30 frames /sec video). Otherwise not a bad but because of above deficiencies, not my gadged. Waiting HCH Shift PLUS (= with above boosts) AT

  • woooow , that was in my dreams oh man , i love it , windows vista on my mobile 30 gig hdd , 1 gig ram , monitor out do you want saomethinge else ? i dont think so that is exelent , so perfect

  • useles thing for big money.for same money at end of year I"ll buy some umpc/mini laptop/whit 5"-7"display.but will have 1600mhz dual core intel cpu 80gb hard, touch sckreen display whit big resolutions, build gps, same videocall camera, same ram and battery is 3300mah-i mean asus 7" or fujitzusimens 5".at last i can buy optinal 6500mah battery for asus 7" which work 7real ahrs 0r watching tv online or stay all they conneckted true wifi fiding wree acses point.my friend have previos model asus whit 900mz cpu,40gb hard,728ram ,1.3mpx videocalcamera ,build gps and 3330mah battery-work 3.5ahrs on this 820x480resolution.asus work exelent whit windows xp,but i find litle bit slow this 900mhz intel cpu-imagine haw fast will be cpu which is in all htc-380-600mhz.so for me this smarthphones look like expensive gadgets-try to watch some 2ahrs movie or tv online true wifi/some futbol match 90min/-on my nokia n73 results are worst-i have cnn and mtv true 3g and pay 5euro,but quality is bad and battery going down so fast.

  • You built an entire Kick A#% phone into the UMP/tablet/laptop, gave it super fast internet and disabled the voice feature on the phone! 1)Who's idea was that? 2)Which hacker will be first to make this a usable all-in-one device?

  • sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • aprecieating the most perfect PDA untill now, who else if have a odd idea for this gadgets lord must examine processor,HDD,display, and carry features also. no compare at all. thanks,

  • wow man! this is techno heaven!

  • the best umpc ever:), htc shift rocks

  • From a computer perspective, well done! This is the tiniest laptop on the planet. From a phone perspective I would struggle to carry it with me, it's a strictly business only device. There's a good alternative though: TOSHIBA G900. Same size screen (800 x 480), Windows Mobile OS and wi-fi. Slide-out keyboard and 3x smaller than the "Shift".

  • With regard to the future HTC Shift using HSDPA, does this means that there is a SIM slot for me to insert a sim card working on my 3.5G network ? I mean is the machine coming unlocked and sim-free ?

  • Yo Yo Yo, did you see that, i am so getting it when it comes out, but for now i have to wait impatiently, btw i may now consider not considering the IPhone.

  • this is definetly the best thing ever happened its the wold's 8th wonder.

  • does it have a mouse like a comp?

  • when is his coming soon will eventually happen. I hate this coming soon. I think they should either announce when things are up in the market, or if it is in a matter of weeks. Like Nokia for example. I hate this coming soon that has been posted here for the past 4 months. as if they are failing to change it from idea to reality.. ...

  • this UMPc is all that i need and more. but whats the price and if its touchscreen whats the keyboard for.

  • Nice, finally a phone that doesn't force you to focus on that tiny screen or scroll up and down or left and right to read yout documents. I'm waiting patiently for this one. (Iphone? Love it but gotta leave it.)

  • Its not a comment rather its a questionare session, the first thing that i would like to know about the battery support timing and its market value. Can you please suggest about some more palmtops with better configurations like GPS and HDD capacity. Thanks Waiting for reply.

  • Well its missing a GPS !!! i mean it got evrything why dont we throw in jsut more for the expectation, a GPS and Satelite radio. im sure you can get both of them as in a usb....

  • Shift has Vista Business and WM 6 as well... little button on the left of the screen towards the bottom switches interface.

  • Is this a `mobile` phone????????????? none the less i would buy this.

  • ovidiu: doesnt hugo say hes reviewing the shift in that video that came out a couple weeks ago? i swear he did but if i'm wrong when does that guy come out? and do you think an os wipe is possible?

  • i heard it might be available in 39 days

  • for Giovanni: htc shift and htc x9500 ARE NOT THE SAME. HTC X9500 will have 2 operating sistems, windows vista and Windows mobile professional 6

  • It did not hit the shops yet, mates. We'll have to wait.

  • A Very Nice Phone. When can will this be available. My only comment is on its OS. Vista is known to use a lot of memory space. Can there be an option to change its OS once it is available

  • Woooooooooow Very Nice This Phone

  • hey cybericebyte unfortunately listening to hugos video of it online he said it didnt have phone calling capabilities but hopefully either hes wrong or you're not looking for calling in phone capabilities, also does anyone think that you will be able to wipe vista and install xp pro instead? any thoughts would be appreciated

  • First of all the HTC shift and the HTC x9500 (Shangri-La) all one in the same second of all the HTC omni is windows mobile and not a full OS like XP or VISTA or even win 95 thats one reason for the size second the screen is 7in wide screen and the keyboard is made for touch typing the comparison your trying to make is like comparing a Hugo to a Jaguar the omni is out of it's League when trying to compare to the SHIFT. btw sign me up I want one and have already pre-ordered on if you want to know where to get it just let me know I'd rather have a UMPC and phone rolled into one little gadget than carry a laptop/notebook computer plus a phone.

  • no gps!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gsmarena, please pay attention to htc omni also! Give us some info and evaluation ASAP! Can't see why this not can be done. There are many of us waiting for info about htc OMNI on your good site!

  • Shame gsmarena doesnt show the HTC omni which looks really nice if you ask me and might actually be able to fit in your pocket unlike this device

  • this not available yet and HTC already has plans for a better one. HTC x9500 (Shangri-La). check it out on google

  • perfect the world will be change after this phone really! i will buy this phone please send a new e_mail to me if it it already in market thanx

  • This is a PHONE??? you've gotta be kidding me... will be nice as a UMPC running win xp and support normal size usb stuffs though.

  • This is exalant, I have been waiting for a day when it will be on sale. This is what I have been wating for years. Please let me know when it will come that I will be able to buy. Thanks for your work. Ashot

  • wow...finger print recognition! woooo thats got me interested. i imagine it will be costly though

  • they have this item For $1500

  • from my, point of view, the idea of more ram vs more cpu is kind of smart. Instead of sucking more power to process more tasks per second, more memory helps keep more tasks on hand rather than lagging the whole system. It's like the way more L2 cache works on a CPU. Obviously on a much lower scale, but if you ask me, it's the best of two worlds for power consumption and multi-tasking.

  • Just seen the video review on Engadget. Looks awesome - Has Qualcomm 400mhz processer, 64mb rom and WM6 Pro Plus 1Ghz processor, 1gb DDR2 ram and Vista Business running areo. This thing has 2 Processors and 2 Operating systems. 3Hrs on Vista and 5 Days on WM6 - Nice. However it does not so voice off the Qualcomm (yet).

  • updated info on the HTC Shift. Hugo Ortega from Gotta be mobile had a chance to a test run for the Shift. Many intresting information comfirmed. In his video he stated that the Shift runs on both Pocket Windows and Vista. Windows Vista Business (3 hrs battery) Intel Santa Rosa A110 Processor 1GB DDR2 RAM ~40GB HDD HSDPA (Data only) ready Web Cam Biometrics Windows Pocket PC (over 5 days battery life when used exclusively) Qualcomm 400MHz Processor 64MB RAM However, I just don't understand why Shift can only be used for data. Yes, if there's voice, then many people will start useing internet voice communication instead of their network provider, but since it runs on two OS then why can't HTC make voice to work ONLY on the pocket windows side? The HTC Shift is just inches away from being the perfect mobile device for this generation, hope that they can make it work.

  • the phone with best feature i had ever experienced in my life

  • look at this video, amazing

  • 1Gb ram with 1.2 Ghz only.....what were they thinking about when they decided on this...........!

  • it must be able to display to the external screen like LCD projector or TV.

  • if you people pay a little more attention this phone is equipt with pluetooth thechnology , so you can use hands free kits for making and receiveing calls without your face being covered !!

  • u can use the headset ot the speaker phone!!!

  • it's the best yet.it's like a laptop comp.i wud like to buy as soon as it comes out.how much wud it cost? only problems r camera n gps

  • excellent

  • fingerprint recognition, unnecessary, but very nice piece of tech

  • nice piece of tech.. but u'll be covering ur whole face when making calls. LOL

  • Interesting stuff, but... How the hell are you going to keep it at your ear to talk with it?!?

  • very nice very skill and very power full

  • Surely the big problem is the resolution, only 800x480 on a 7" screen! The Toshiba G900 has that resolution and fits in your pocket. For productivity and a decent web viewing experience it needs to be higher

  • I so love this phone it's a master of it's kind, and will remain for years to come. it's about 1000 gbp, which i'm gonna save up. gawd i started crying when i saw it i can't stop thinking about the power and beauty of it.............. [sniff, sniff]

  • Get it out already! Lets see what u are made of in the flesh before some other brands (Palm Foleo?) starts riping u off.

  • its so cool

  • Hi dear HTC I always get amazed by your products but in this case i just feel sorry because of 2 important things missed in SHIFT: 1.at least 3 MP camera with flash and video light 2.GPS: we know that it's available in many little in size cheap phones now thus why not included in your elegant SHIFT I promise that if you do this at least me and 30 of my friends (we are all IT men) will but it without even thinking. Be always the best as you are.

  • When is this phone coming to RSA? and how much will it cost?

  • You guys don't understand that it has 1,2MP VIDEOCALL camera, which is far superiour than any CIF (288x352)/0.1MP right now on the market. I just hope the Shift will have GPS too..

  • seems like they' ve thought about everything but a GPS... why is that there can't be a complete phone after all? they just make it perfect, put all in one and forget about one little detail...in this case is not so litle, is a GPS which became very handy lately, at least from my point of view...I need a gps so I bought an hp 6915, works great. I admire this one as well but the fact that has no GPS it's a great drawback ! PLEASE put a GPS on so I can buy it !!!

  • It is really a very nice phone I will purchase it soon but the main drawback is only its camera.

  • Very strongly I believe that this piece would be unique and buy at first sight. But camera???? Huh...... If I am gonna spend a whole lot of price and get camera even lower then an ordinary china make celfon. Camera must be improved before it is launched or otherwise it will be available at lower price within a week (just like Apple I-Phone)

  • if we look to this handset, it is the only set which everybody wants to use in life. as by using this phone u will never wish to have any laptop or comp.. So, in my opinion its the best

  • according to my understanding, this gadget should be the most sexiest piece ever lunched in the market but very seriously speaking the camera has to he updated with somewhat with 6 -7mp or else, there is a chances of going flop.

  • what kind of graphics card is there ??

  • Well, what should i say? Excellent palm-sized phone and pc, but camera should be upgrated, including tv-out, fm, etc. What's more, dateline to release is unexpectedly too long. Wanna buy at first sight!!! hurry to deliver to the market.

  • this phone doesnt have a normal speaker so u can only tok using a wired handsfree

  • yes it has a USB port and mini USB

  • Have this device USB port??? it is usefull to install my modem USB :-P

  • Its a great thing, that lags GPS, a good 6-8M pixel camera, Infrared, flash, and supercapacitor/ultracapacitor as a battery. With these addins, it'll be the best companion of a software professional on the go also for day to day life. I would also love if HTC releases a "Linux" version. Overall, its a GREAT achievement. Keep it up! :-)

  • that's not even a phone, it's a tablet PC with GSM support ... but it's one hell of a good system though, light-weight for a tablet, small , with alot of great features, the price will be the factor upon which i'll decide whether to like this thing or not, cuz there are alot of cool tablets out there for reasonable prices, and even better capabilities.

  • htc is taiwan base company...the company behind dopod and imate...before they market their product htc is a component supplier to imate and dopod...

  • Has anyone seen HTC brand in Australia?

  • all features r the best between phones except camera soo weakkk

  • FINALLY. Someone has figured out how to combine a Phone and a PC! It's about time! Now if they would just release it in the US already!

  • 3rd quarter is almost here maybe when the time comes that Shift is out Nokia will come out with the same specs and cheaper

  • @ Asif Khan. Boy, the current techonology doesnt allow so many features cramped into a small device. If u willing to pay 1 billion, I can make one with wide screen + 12mp + MS VIsta business + 1TB HDD + qwerty keyboard + 7.1 ch audio system + GPS + HSPDA + WLAN + 512 Video memory + Core duo 2 2GHz + etc

  • It should have . 1- Camera at least 3MP 2- GPS 3-DTV freview 4-optical Drive(B-Ray or DVD+RW(mini)...I can pay 2K+ if they feature all of them in it...

  • Pls release it now....now i am getting tired of waiting and maybe change my mind and buy a sony laptop....

  • Iv never seen HTC in a store. What country has people seen it in? and what network/store if any?

  • most phones hit the market 3-4mths after announcement, so dont be so impatient

  • today 13/06/07 sooo... where is the phone htc?

  • shame it does not have a camera but it has the best videocall camera anounced so far. also isnz it a mini-laptop with the ability to call people rather than a cell phone? anyway i really want it

  • Every one forgetting one thing here, and more over you guys concentrating on all features but ignoring the main processor make! VIA. Does it really work better? Is the processor can make feel bugs vista compatible? What to do with 1.2MP camera? No IR, No FM. I would recommend every one those who willing to buy this the thing (from fantastic 4) please make sure to ask your tailor to size your pockets to accordingly 

  • I think this is the best and i cannot wait moor, i need it badlly, i think this is what i am waiting for........

  • Very nice! But 1 problem camera is too old. i think minimum need 3 mp camera. others excelant. i like it.

  • deos GPS work with this unit? if it is does it need any software or receiver. pls someone tell me thnx.

  • I have been waiting for something like this for a long time and all I can hope for is that it will be affordable. In South Africa most 'high end' phones are considered to be very, very expensive. So, if it's going to be, rather cancel it, so I can stop wishing. We get ripped off every day of our lives... eg.

  • I LOVE the concept....I've been looking for something like this for a long time! Between answering text messages on my Pocket PC and writing papers on my laptop..it really helps to do it all in one. I've written full length papers on my Pocket PC as well, but it sucks b/c I cant load other programs on it or create PowerPoint presentations...but with this thing...it would solve everything!

  • I like the concept... just not sold on Vista for Mobile.

  • This is a great fone + laptop....hope this will be cheap..

  • Why SHIFT??? Why not DELETE? A real waste product. Will cost(double) more than a laptop? Instead of this buy best mobile and best laptop and have fun all the way. I suggest these freaks to stop this product.

  • End of all question. can any one imagine more than this. will this be the end of mobile phone.

  • ohhhhhhhh uhh lalala this is end of discusion, wow i have been waiting for this time, and here is my dream phone, but pls bring it out b4 some one copy it,and start distrofution badly,

  • Having a mini laptop with cell phone capabilities is a good idea for bz ppl on the go. The only problem is that voice dial doesn't always work correctly, especially in noisy environments.

  • "ani" while saying FALTOO to this mobile. just mind or ask ur self that can u buy this ? will cost around 1200S.May be its out of ur budget n question so no need to write faltoo comments

  • sorry for the guy who just post his opinion but htc is a product of microsoft using the program windows in exclusivity

  • this is not a laptop i say that it cannot have any beautiful futures like computer or laptop it com has 80-120 GB but it has only 30 GB hahahahahah.... it is fully faltoo

  • This is stuff i am waiting for the long time i thing Microsoft will kill this product pls inform the make to release ASAP or some one will copy it.

  • I think this show be in the computer ad. page not the mobile phone page.

  • I can not imagine carrying 2 lap top at the same time. Size will never enablethe usage of this device as a phone. Configuration might be good as small lap top as for me i will buy a 10" lap top to insure running all my application

  • our russian hackers will definitely crack it and install a pirate xp on it :)

  • Vista kills this product! (for absolutely no reason but MS aggressive incompetence)

  • Great specifications for a laptop. After looking at the dimensions for sure no one would consider this device a cellphone. However other HTC-devices offer great mobility.

  • i heard this phone actually has a graphics card cos of vista, how cool is that, we want XP ... NOW ...!!!

  • yea!its a great phone.actually i wuldnt call it a phone its more a laptop. but, definitley its a powerful machine. the ram & hard disk is killer! question is its OP sys is vista....vista is rich in graphics but not as efficient as xp. we might have a problem there, and yea the spam joke that was a good one!i believe its a huge phone!it should be?but neways i like it,bu i dunno how im going to get it;money?!lol... well those who are gonna buy the phone go ahead! and pls post the review! thanx!

  • Best mobility ever seen with all options , I hope it will be available in French language with AZERTY keyboard

  • it seems like an ideal laprop, but not a phone. laptops & phones should be separatye....can you imagine? a phone that can get spam? then it can crash & needs to be re-formatted every 6 month or so cos it gets fulled with crap... (its also vista...nuff said XD)

  • Amazing! I can't breath...I must have it! Wait...I may need to rob a bank to get one.

  • okay this is a cool fone but its gonna be expensive thats definate

  • Must buy !!! Must Buy !!!! This is the end of waiting device. I'm very love it. When I can buy this?, and how about in asia (Indonesia).

  • Is that really a phone or a small laptop?

  • Who would use their laptop as a mobile phone?

  • vista os on 1.2 ghz via processor? why? please make an xp version? and via makes 1.5 ghz one. use it!!!

  • 2000 usd :(

  • OMG! this is one kickass of a device! I like I like! I want I want! Hope this is available here in the Philippines!

  • One other thing about cameras on phones, they are all virtually useless. I promise you that a dedicated 2mp camera will take much better photos in many more situations than a 3.2mp or even 5mp camera phone ever will. How big do you think the CCD will be in camera phone? To get good photos you need to get lots of light to lots of CCD, tiny lense and tiny CCD = tiny quality pictures every time. I say again, if taking pictures is so important get a camera!!!

  • How often do you really use the camera on a mobile any way? I have a 2mp camera on my phone I have used it about three times in about one year. If you want to take pictures go get a camera!!! HTC is leading the way in mobile technology, N95 has poor battery life, cant edit files have to pay extra for gps, not compatible with external units etc. These are the features that matter yet the extra 2mp in the camera make all the difference for some of you. For shame!!!

  • omg does it support external drives? i probably can't afford it anyways. probably gonna be close to $2000

  • okay the shift doesnt have an actual 'camera' its a 3g camera which on any other phone is VGA

  • to the hell with N95,that phone is nothing compared to the this UMPC

  • why did the camera drop to a 1.2 MP most of the others are 2 MP.... just for fingerprint recognition ???

  • i love that mini laptop, waiting for it for so long..... i need it at any cost, when will it release

  • this cannot be the best mobile phone cause its not a mobile phone...its some laptop from which u can call!!!! the camera is disgrace and the size is awfull!!!....the best phone is nokia n95.....this htc phone wont even fit in ur pocket!!!!

  • Oh my god!! How can HTC do such mistake. 30gb hard disk, 1GB ram, 1.2 GHZ CPU... it sounds so perfect but when it comes to camera..... 1.2mp only for video calling. hey tis is ridiculous, 3mp camera is a going to be standard equipment but i cant find it here and where's the gps? the manufacture included it in X7500 but why not shift as well. there is ntg perfect in tis world.

  • best phone ever..im waitin' 'till it comes out and i will buy it..its more than a laptop

  • This is.....I wanted a new mobile but I think I'll get a new lapt..palmtop with vista. I hope there is a dockingstation so I can use it at home or at the office. This is great

  • Is this a phone???

  • whats this? a pocket laptop? wahhh,

  • Yes you can watch Youtube on E90 actually :). If i was buying a laptop i would buy this. But i am buying mobily phone so i will go for E90.

  • You think theres no difference between vista and e90???? let me tell you the simplest way to distinguish... can you watch videos of youtube on e90????? both got wifi/3g so one would want to watch youtube videos on it

  • Cellular Overkill

  • anyone know where to preorder this phone?

  • This is a great mini laptop. But in case you don't realy need a Windows Vista than i recommend you Nokia E90, thats what i will buy. It has also all fetures only it is sized as a mobile phone.

  • Hi guys this umpc will come out on october 9th 2007 and the price would be $1699-$1899. thank you

  • The best phone i have ever seen. It not a phone it is more than a laptop.

  • I see it as my dream cell phone...My world in my pocket.I would wish for an all-encompassing upgrade to include an inbuilt TV tuner. Good concept!

  • Is tis a phone? Looks more like a laptop rather than a phone.

  • What? No flashdisk? :)

  • My english very bad, sorry but must be pcmci or pc express slot and usb 2.0 port for oem usb equipment

  • SUPERB... no comment !

  • Panacea: ehy boy it's not the first UMPC, ssmaung Q1 asus r2H and Sony vaio UX17GP even comes first before this.

  • Great! This phone/laptop is a major step towards portable computing and communications. Next step: Reduce its weight and width. it should weigh less than a pound (450 grams).

  • WOW, its the 1st UMPC technically speaking, but it would have left competition behind had it also in built GPS, so that final consumers would have gone straight for it. The weight would determine the sales of this unit coz if its heavier to carry people wudnt like to carry it. I wonder if the come up with a small strapable ( wrist) gadget with small lCD scree to show and type in phone no. which cud be attached with the bluetooth so it would have been unbeatable.

  • if you are buying it as a laptob then fine, but if you are buying it as a phone then not fine :) I'm tired of holding my bulky PDA2k and I would like to have smaller phone no a bigger one. if you already carry your laptob with you everywhere then you will be able to carry this one with you too.

  • its price is going to kill everyone.it sucks for its price but it is one step ahead from all other phones

  • This is the best ever created phone in the world! I will buy it when it get cheaper!!!

  • WOOOOOOW what a piece of a shirty little laptop.how will you carry the damn phone if it doesnt fit on your pocket? i think user are going to spend much of their time trying to troubleshoot the OS bcos vista kak. but i like the memory on it

  • if network including CDMA and GPS That is complete, the means: KING and the First No.1 Mobile phone in the World

  • intel is seeing this kinda devices as the future umpc, umpc with gsm function. here is a video....:

  • lol this is a waste of time.. why would u buy this??? hah vista is a joke anyway

  • i already pre ordered it. very nice

  • Thats not a phone, Its a notebook with function of phone. Look their size, its very big for a mobile phone, you cant place in the pocket for example.

  • vavavoom! The only thing is the price. If that's not an issue, I am getting this beast of a machine for sure!

  • Although this Phone is amazing but because of limited details one could not replace it with Laptop, atleast for now. Secondly the thickness of the phone is little more than it should be

  • to be honest if it's true 1700$ for this then i might has well buy a gameing laptop for that price because this is to big to but in the pocket anyways and it's a small laptop no different from anything right ?

  • For those of you that are asking: 1. This is not a phone but a UMPC with phone function. Google for UMPC or Origami to know. 2. You will not use this as your desktop PC but your mobile companion to read your mails, surf the web and take your calls. 3. You will not install Battlefield2 on this, but your basic office software. 4. You will load it with all your movies and MP3 files to kill those awfull waiting moments. 5. You will not hold it to your head but always use a bluetooth headset to received and make calls. A stereo headset is a must. 6. You will be able to connect an external usb keyboard and monitor to write that long mail, or documents. 7. You will not put this in your pocket but in a sleeve with a wrist wrap. 8. You will not shutdown this device, but always put it to Sleep. Vista resumes sleep in 2 seconds. 8. This is meant for managers, lawyers, doctors, geeks-on-the-run, and students with rich parents ;-)) If you want a phone, please go look somewhere else, this is the device that we mobile warriors have been waiting for. My only fear is that the price that will be a murder! I hope others will follow HTC with a hybrid device like this, competition is good for the enduser's money.

  • A ringing laptop!!!

  • I think that this is more of a second-sim-card-for-browsing kind of a computer. I mean it's huge for a phone, but looks like something that an executive would buy a second sim card and plan for, so that s/he can have mobile internet wherever s/he goes. As far as DVD players/etc go, this has to be a light and portable device, and since it has USB and BT you will be able to connect pretty much anything to it anyway. Plus there might even be a proprietary slot for things like that.

  • 30mm thick? Hooo.. It's not like a phone. Look like your carry a laptop put it near your ears and talk. The weight won't less than 500g and the battery for working time won't much than 3h, it'll ask for a charger soon. Better by a 8" laptop and a 3g phone. So u won't ashame while u've phone calls :).

  • no doubt, this phone is best ever made...only thing is tht it shd hav bluray drive, thn d phone will surely kick out nokia....bluray technology has been introduced in one of SPICE mobile

  • Verging on a VERY expensive laptop now... is there really a need for this all to be integrated...

  • Wooooooooow

  • thats increadable gadjet... its ... a little-little notebook:) i like it very much :)

  • Just got few Info on this Phone... This product will be in stock on Last week of September, 2007 with the Price Tag of 1,700$ Unlocked version. Probably Few Hundred Dollors less along with the plan..

  • No Wonder every Project Managers, CEO's , COO's, Architects, Doctors, Advocates..etc would be Holding this device. Gosh..nothing replaces this device as of now.

  • It's fantastic but the camera is need to be higher

  • So um. A PC with no dvd drive? does it have ethernet?

  • definitly cool id like to play with it...but its definitly more about showing off than about practical use...its a nice glimpse into the future though

  • this really blows nokia out of the water. this is what their umpc shouldv been

  • htc shift is very cute, pc with gsm facility is sure a show stopper. when will it be availiable in the market?

  • Hi Guys, First of all please somebody mail me the exact available date, am really eager to buy the prodcut and see its amazingness. This is an excellent product for those who are in Project Manager in IT support team instead of going for Blackberry, this is all in one fantastict product. But one thing until we buy the product and use we cannot comments anything espeically about battery life. Appreciate it, Best Regards Praneeth Marpally Mob: 971-50-2744543 Standard Chartered Bank United Arab Emirates

  • weel any one know CEO of HTC, hope its Indian. If you know name...pls tell me...

  • haider offcourse its far better then n95 but n95 weights 120grams and this is gonna be at least 500grams and u cant hold this in pocket. Its a beast but not a mobile phone, its more of a mini laptop with gsm funcionality.

  • If I can buy today, this machine has the ultimate,so comprehensively excellent .I already had three of the world best 5"and 8,9" Mini PC,but i really hope to buy this machine today.where n when can i buy it n for howmuch?

  • owns anything out so far.

  • far far far far far better than n95

  • I realy like this phone, one of the best phone ever. But I cant afford it so no use of talking much. :) hope some day I will able to buy this

  • Also, it would be great to have ALL connectivity options, like infrared, bluetooth, WiFi, USB, ... (infrared seems to be missing from features list) Obviously, this great device shall not lag behind in camera. There shall be two cameras. One for web-cam/video call and another for high-resolution and high speed (low exposure, stable and crystal clear picture) possibly with autofocus. Don't know if this phone can charge itself if attached to USB. It MUST do so. 3.5G connectivity bandwidth not known, shall be highest available.

  • DEFINATE future of mobile computing. Laptop carrying is hectic. Maybe with UNIX or at the least LINUX options with it, will help a LOT in capturing the market. If it ships with UNIX/LINUX, in reasonable cost, I'll be 1st buyer! Regards, HTC!

  • Hello Please Put in your mobile TV out This is Good But can you send to this mobile to show or Client it I have big company in Syria but we have not agence for your company

  • it looks interesting, but on the real i wouldnt like to phone with that, i mean it is an all-in-on communicating device, but with the iphone coming up i would rather get that, for this price you could get an even faster laptop/computer with an iphone, you would look cooler and have a more effecient device to manage your files (personal or business) -Dee-

  • Personally I think this could be the perfect tool for sale forces and mobile management. Its powerful and fast enough to access the web and web based application. Run all your PIM and office requirements, show and store all your presentations. Pull out laptop your laptop and wait for it to power up I could have walked into your client office presented, signed the deal by introducing him to our director using the 3G video calling. Why have a laptop if you dont need it. This type of device with a bluetooth headset it the way to go

  • why does everybody allways needs to say things like it laks, i dont, like if it had... man this in like a phone on steroids! yes mayb gps would make it complete but the phone/mini laptop like this is allready btr then everything on the market in my opinion so stop the complaining and make youre own phone gezzz. grts Vido

  • it has good features good size amd can do alot it something worth buying

  • OMG i cant breathe

  • this is tablet PC with inbuilt Phone ;)

  • Oh, my god! is this a mobile phone? or a laptop?

  • Sigh, why can't they put WM6 on this? The CPU would be great for WM6 but Vista??? It's gonna take forever to do anything with a 1.2 Give me a sec, I need to look up a contact. 5 min later, Outlook is still loading.

  • can't comment i am speechless...

  • In my opinion it is neither... It's not a REAL laptop yet as the resolution is high, but not quite high enough...but it is no longer a PDA or a phone. It's somewhere in the middle. I would like to see it perform some decent tasks, even though the specs are there I doubt it will be very convenient to run graphics progams (Photoshop etc.) on this machine. But then again... it was probably never made for that. Really glad to see though that mobile technology is mergin so quickly, the next two to five years will be nothing like this... Harlekkin

  • is it a phone or a LAPTOP

  • hmmm....the 1st look at this phone or so called PDA,every one will love to mingle with it....but wat is the main issuse to launch this type of technology???? I agree with arun,y not manufacturin laptops? I will be the 1st to buy :P...;)

  • i love this phone i think it will be verry expensive bud its more a computter than a phone somebody told me it cam only call handsfree?!?!!? is this true?

  • well i think this is the best pocket pc that i ever had seen a couple of years its nice but aaaaa no thats great i like that, but i cant buy this b-cause its priceless nothing compares right now but someday maybe will the least..

  • it really needs a good camera integrated, 3mp whith autofocus as the htc advantage x7500

  • this is a good idea... but i think it lacks one feature that would make it the ultimate all in one package. A GPS, they did it with the advantage. If it had a GPS I think it would be great for Aviators, Private/comercial. maybe Garmin and HTC could brain storm that one! i would like one of those!

  • if this thing is with gps that will be great...

  • this is the god of all mobile phones....

  • This device is way too much powerful to be catagorize as PDA...

  • i already use a htc phone...but now i want this SHIFT phone

  • Really good to see HTC pushing up into the ultra portable laptop/tablet space. Could next release have 1024x768 TFT, 60GB solid state drive, IR4 port, UMTS, GPS & FM tuner in same form factor please? Such a machine would give IBM HP Dell Sony etc something to thing about! I'd ditch my x60 tablet.

  • This is very beautiful...but it wont fit in my pocket...yes i like it very much but many computer companies will be able to create such things ....what i need is the same specifications but also to fit in my pocket. Great idea but not user friendly....it is not always about hardware it is also about service ...there are out in the market other also gsm mini laptops things...not interested ..i believe htc advantage is better...

  • to guys asking if there is USB... there was! but i don't know if it's 1.1 or 2.0 but as the device uses windows vista, it should be USB 2.0 as 1.1 is old for the newer OS. i think it's the better choice compared to SAMSUNG Q1 and SONY UX17GP UMPCs...=D

  • We can't cal this a phone.i think htc should manufacture laptops from now on.why spend too much on a phone like this if you can get a laptop cheaper than this.any way the features are overwhelming

  • Wawaweewow!!! just got my Dopod 838Pro last feb and i'm already dreaming of having this beauty... dang! :P

  • id get it if it was A LOT smaller.

  • wouldn't this cellular phone overheat if its used for a long time? and for moving the cursor i guess its touchscreen but can we use mouse?

  • OMFG, what is this for? is this a cellular, anyway? or just a notebook with a ringing option? so big... so heavy... so huge... blah.

  • wow my god its a real pc holy moly wow its a first gen p4 , that small windows vista ???? ho leee moly ,

  • i think that HTC does do some good things. i can't wait to get my hands on this device. It looks awesome. Does it support a direct printer connection? I really think that the HTC people have really achieved a respectable position in my heart.!! yea

  • Excited Readers, A few points for your thinking mind which is over excited. These queries should calm you down. I agree that I like this "MOBTOP" (I am innovative already), but a few questions remain unanswered:- 1) what does "videocall" mean in 1.2 MP camera. Is the camera only 1.2 MP? 2) NO FM (radio) 3) What about GPS? 4) Is the USB port 1.1 or 2.0 ?? If you have good questions to help HTC, then share it Wishing you luck HTC..As for iphones...where will they hide themselves?? Anything better than this guys then LET us know.

  • Hi guys! I am using HTC Dopod 838Pro at the moment. I thought I could use it for a year. Not even 6mths, HTC Shift comes out and should be available in 2 months time. However, I need the truth about its processor, its RAM and its storage. These were not spelt out properly in the specs.Correct me if I am wrong, the mini slot is meant for you to connect to all these considering the basic specifications of its RAM, CPU and storage were not made known. To quote an example, HTC must mention the brand name of its processor like ARM, Samsung etc and speed. If not we cannot assume that this phone is a laptop replacement or nearer. HTC Shift must itemised these...

  • goood god , this phone is.....the ultimate phone...and the next technology to come on our regulary mobile phones...good job nice product it realy has everything , more than a phone , more then a laptop

  • simply awsome

  • hi guys , you dont know how sad i am before i was thinking o2 have best pda phone in the palnet but today i heard about htc shift and i watch my o2 xd2i and my o2 xda exec i want to cry badly i was huge fan of o2 phones. im realy realy sad why htc make such a pda phone when no one can beat them. right now i check the hp pda phone they going to bring new hp with windows mobile 6. i was thinking world is growing so fats . now i realise that they going to make new mini phone laptop like htc shift. but honestly i dont like this way everything growing so fast tcnology growing so fast i wish they make this phone next 6 or 7 years not now i hope you guys understand me everything changing so fast. my idea would be it would better they make all pda phones on windows mobile or like noka on symbian os. im thinking myself im going to tired of everything like just you guys think yourself wow we had dream on regular windows mobile but now everything going to be easy ready like fast food. i hope you guys understand my feeling i dont like this why everything should have limit. right now i know everyone who bought nokia n95 or any kind of laptop are realy realy sad because of htc shift because of this product its ruin they dream. and now feeling is realy realy down ...............

  • I just measured the dimensions of my trouser pockets and it seems the HTC Shift would fit! only barely but still good enough for me, it beats hauling a laptop around, im afraid it will be a little too expensive for me though.

  • thats an awsome phone but i guess to big ........also the camera is quiet dull

  • I Am seeing Stars>Wake me up from this dream i cant believe ma eyes!

  • simply awesome!!!! i m out of words !!!!

  • its not a phone thats a laptop wenksssssssss!!!!!!!!!! n series is the best

  • How much this machine Cost.. and when its coming out

  • this is not a phone...i mean look at it..it's a mini laptop!

  • i think i'm in love again.....!

  • i am sayin GOODBYE to my laptop! and welcome to HTC SHIFT!! i'l definitely hav 1! this is a realy cool device!

  • wow...how much??? the display very2...longer...like as laptop man... any give me this phone..if you give me..i can create you blog sites...

  • lol..more ram than my laptop thats usin vista basic :(

  • i want one now!!!!

  • this phone look like alienware hey moto lets do it. win wista 1 GB ram Usb output. i can run my .exe files.

  • really i cannot belive in it, finally you can replace your computer, finally a cell with 30gb, and burn resumed MAC OSX from iPhone, but i'm thinking: everybody knows that windows takes long to boot, what about the wait?, it's display has 16m color and 800x480 resolution, batery?, well, i trust in htc...

  • LOL, agreed, Imagine a Business woman/man in a very important call and seeing it go bluescreen

  • well at least you know its using vista so its not going to annoy you holding it to your head because it wont work lol

  • It's running Vista and not even laptops that are Vista ready can be on for more then 2 hours aprox. so I can't imagine this little device is going to last long on battery power, other than that nice concept, just not worth the purchase

  • is there perhaps some worry about exactly how long the battery would last on this thing? I'll accept it's a good hybrid, but uncomfortable to type with and too big to hold as per a normal handset. Close... no banana.

  • Sorry HTC, but crunching all the highest tech specs into this outrageously huge phone/laptop wannabe won't matter in the real world. This is just to far out from a cellphone and not nearly as functional as a laptop to be even be considered an usable device. It seems that you're trying really hard to steal some thunder away from Nokia's flagship phone, the E90 Communicator (a true balance of power and functionality).

  • You hav to click on the pictures link to get a more accurate look on this. The picture up on the left looks fairly ok but the close-up shot was amazing. Great Stuff!

  • its more of a laptop than phone .. and looks pretty ugly too

  • OMG windows vista, 1 gig RAM, this PDA Phone beats my home computer :)), very very powerfull but it is big enough for pockets, i have a i-mate JAMin and i think is a little big, but this one, if using this device instead of a laptop it will be ok

  • that is totally a mini laptop!!!

  • Wow, they instaled Windows Vista on it.Wow

  • A Laptop which takes SIM cards.

  • with its dimensions i think its a portable laptop, you cant put it in your pocket!

  • this is a UMPC, ultra portable pc not a smartphone.

  • itz DAMN!!!!!! gud man itz realy wonder by HTC except the 12mp cmera itz perfect

  • What carrier can I use this phone with? It's awesome

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! this is like the bestest thing ive seenn unbeleivable.........

  • it's not just a phone but laptop !

  • personally i feel HTC Advantage X7500 would be much better as a phone.

  • awesome device, just cant find words to describe it but im still confused whether its a phone or a computer. anyways jokes apart i think i'll be slow for a PC and too bulky for a phone.

  • My laptop will go to my stockroom while I have this in my hand.

  • I must make BIG pockets on my cloths to bring it!

  • it's a computer!

  • Speechless Super!

  • wow a bye bye to n95, but camera side suks

  • dear gsmarena moderator, please erase this device from your website since it is not a phone. it's a laptop. lol

  • Wa wa we wa. Very nice. How much?

  • this is a friggin laptop with cell phone capabilities

  • wow how do you hold it against ur ears?

  • goodbye N95 and X7500. this one is more promising from it's OS used. it's like a laptop in a UMPC form and the features are good for a mobile. though does it have USB ports?

  • why 1.2 MP camera? it must have 10 mp camera

  • WOW! THis is what I will call a hybrid!! This is excellent it looks amazing!

  • good god. why buy a PC? oh yeah iphone got nothing on this

  • WTF - where are we heading....? - 1 GB RAM - 30 GB HDD drive - 1.2 GHz VIA CPU

  • holy crap! a monster of a phone or is it a pc? haha
