well i think ur imate's battery is completly discharged, so u need to charge it for 10 to 20 min from a outer unit like from universal charger, and then inset it back into ur mobile to further charge it. hope this solution will solve ur problem

first check if the speaker icon is being displayed on your TODAY screen,if not then its a softwear problem,some sound file might of gone curropted. if thats not the case then try a temporary method, its basically due to the over chaging of the battery. When u over charge the phone,the size of the battery increses the from the room provided to it,which may also leads to a tinney bulge in the back cover,for that matter, just simply play an audio file in ur phone n while the file is being played, just press the lower sides of the phone tight (close to the camera button) and c if the sound appers,if yes then simply replace ur battery to a new one.

hello everyone,ive been using JASJAM since ages n man i can bet that this phone is just one of a kind (AWESOME) just in love with it :) ive been spaming around in the review section of this phone and just came accross with pplz facing problems with this phone, although bad case with the memory buh lets c how many can i recall :P to connect this phone through the computer, u need to install active sync first (builtin in new laptops) and then just simply sync it, although a v kiddish thing to answer :p buh i hope pplz can take advantage of that :) secondly the wi-fi eats alot of battery, so while using the wi-fi, make sure u switch the phone to flight/radio mode,thirdly u can install a new self cooked ROM from various sites over the internet which is again a very simple process n ummm what else was there ...n yeah the self cooked roms supports upto 32GB microSD card on this phone buh n u can upgrade this phone to WM6.5 (which im currently using) buh just bare one thing in mind, once u loose your original WM5.0 u wont be able to get it back.install all these roms on your own risk, although u'll surely be able to get a complete guide for the installiation buh nobody is gona gurantee u anything because these are after market roms n not registered by microsoft. sumone was having problem with his speakers, well basically there can be two main reasons,which gives a halt to the sound of ur phone 1st either there is any sound file missing(in that case the phone will stop displaying the speaker thinge on the top) n 2nd. due to the over charging of the battery, the size of the battery increases from the room given to it, which leads to a tiny bulge in the back cover, all u need to do is to replace the battery and try it by pressing the bottom back left side of the ph during a sound file is being played (although it is a temporary method n as soon as u release it, the sound will stop working as usual) buh atleast u'll find out if its the softwear problem or the hardwear. the sliding keyboard should be used as less as possible becuse it becomes lose with frequent sliding. well i guess that enough for now :p

I've had my iMate Jasjam for 2 years now. I bought it used from a friend and eventhough it is almost 4 years old I prefer it over my Nokia Phones (7610 and 7610 SuperNova)and I love my Nokias! This phone is just so flexible for my lifestyle. I can't use VideoPhone over here in Saudi, at least I have not been able to yet. But everything else works just fine. I wil use this phone as long as it still works no matter what else they come out with.

i have 2 issues with my jasjam (bought it new 4 years ago) recently i've had the problem with the cable, but i've also most of my touch screen funtionality. if i touch anywhere on the top, it activates the start menu, if i touch the bottom it does whatever the left button on the sceen says, calender by default. is this repairable without replacing parts? the 1st issue i resolved with a bit of duct tape (trust me, it really does fix everything) :D

The screen goes white/blanks out after powering on. this is a design problem cause by the slide out cable connecting the two sections of the phone together. It gets damaged after about a year. This is timed approximately with the warranty period.

I had this phone for 3 years now and its working great I already updated the firmware to the latest version and install some other software, few problems I got is that the ISP here in Abu Dhabi does not support 3G for Imate Jasjam phone, the imate official website does not anymore update the firmware for this, I just got my updated firmware from HTC.

I have I-mate Jasjam with a Qwerty keyboard sliding out. The trouble it refuses to slide in fully so there is always about 1cm gap. It seems to discharge the battery in a matter of hours (I have a new battery because I thought that was it). I suspect it thinks it is on all the time since it does not click closed. I have had the JASJAM for 3 years now and it's been a great phone. I have had minimal hiccups these mainly being: battery, touch screen and freezing. For the money it costs it probably isn't there. Great functions though - would be good for a business person, thought almost too big and heavy for the average person to carry around.

I have the jas jam, loved it while it worked, am hoping it is jus a faulty battery. am using a nokia n95 so not in any hurry to get it repaired. the memory slot is in the side of the phone there should be a fake one in there now. just push to release n then replace it..

2 years with the jasjam, time for a new phone. It's a bit heavy, dropped it a dozen times and its held up well except now I quite often get a blank screen when trying to use it - extremely frustrating. Have to open and close the slide or turn it off and on. It eventually becomes operational. Enjoy the qwerty board so think next phone might need one. Camera is rubbish so will need a good one with next phone. stuggling with choice of next one. Odd, the relationship you develop with a phone.

I purchased a new JasJam a while ago, I agree it's battery life is a tragic joke. It needs to be plugged in every few hours if you want to use exchange mail, I'm currently doing an experiment with its 3G/Wifi features turned off to see if it can be used as just a (expensive) phone. other notes about the phone for those thinking of purchasing one. I thought the keyboard was a big selling point, but I have found it much easier to bash out messages with the pen, that means that I have a phone that splits in half to reveal a keyboard that will never get used, that's just a personal niggle I does not have a regular ear phone jack, so if you want to use it as an mp3 player you must use the usb style ear piece, which is a separate purchase If you wanted to use the WIFI functionality you will find the reception is very bad even if you are quite close to the the access point with line of sight. I found mobile 6 a far better o/s that the version 5 it came with and would recommend the upgrade. that's my 2 cents worth

Google 'XDA Developers' and you will find all sorts of ROM upgrades for this phone. Mine is now on WM 6.1 which I have found to be much better than 6. Follow the instructions they give carefully... I have now had 2 of these phones, and find it a very good device.

I have had a jasjam since December 2007. I have had nothing but trouble with it since day one, it has currently been back for service for ongoing problems existed since day 1 the device is clearly faulty. So far they have had it for amonth and say they are fixing it (again) no replacing it, the customer service number is not helpful and gives me the runaround and cannot contact anyone of iprtance or authority. hey u jut need Active sync for the jas jam, don't need any drivers to install. go to the googles seach n search for Microsoft Actiive sync. n download the setup file on ur computer n then attach the data cable of u jas jam n u rr done! Enjoy, this is the nice machine to work with, it really offers great functionality of a multimedia player n a powerful ppc. its lovely to type through its hardware keybord as m using in right now. every function is availabe over the key board too, to opeate all the functions n u merely need stylus to work with all ur documents. jas jam rocks!!!!!!!!!!

Go for Windows Mobile 6.0 profeesional n u will have the best pocket PC. Windows 6 is much stable, n offers great features u ever need in a PPC Mobile. After getting W6 on it you wont need any other handset. I would say this is the best PPC i have ever used. If u go for ultimate 8502, that too doesnt have GPS reciever, so its better to get this one n wait for some...... I have been using nokia smartphones, like E61i which is better among others, but obviously in terms of functionality no one can beat windows mobile, this is a real upgrade. Go msn-live n have voice chat over the phone, do skype(but u'll need account).

Save your money, buy a PDA that works. I have not spoken to anyone who owns one of these, and is happy with it. Poor phone performance and most frustrating is the intermittent operation of the screen and phone buttons.

been using my jasjam for over a year now and everything is still working well. dropped it once and to my surprise it wasnt effected at all except for a tiny scratch. the baterry life is ok, had it set to automatically turn off after 3 minutes of standby. hav installed some useful applications and the unit is handling them well. good management of the jasjam i think is all u need to get the most out of this fine pda.

We bought two JasJam's as I liked the oversized keys for typing emails over a Blackberry. I returned mine ( my carrier says after three repairs they take it back and cancel the contract) I opted for a Palm Treo 750. 1. The JasJam screen would often freeze and required rebooting to fix it. 2. The software would often reset itself. All of sudden the ringtone would change all by itself. 4. The "notification" message in the bottom left side of the screen when an SMS had been received would sit on top of the "Unlock" tab on the screen so I was unable to unlock the screen to get the new message. The phone was hopeless as well. If a call came through, while I was removing the unit from the pouch if the keyboard slid out it would bump the call to my voicemail, So annoying. I was happy to get rid of it and am not surprised they have all been returned in NZ. The other JasJam is till running but the end of the stylus snapped off leaving the bulk of it in the phone. All in all we are just waiting for the contract on the other one (Dec ) to run out and will get rid of it asap.

Further update. I have now returned the I-Mate JasJam. Apparently in NEw Zealand, all the JasJams have now been withdrawn from sale by I-mate (as opposed to being recalled). Found out that the HTC TYTN II is cheaper and with more features. Also looking at the Imate Ultimate which apparently is a lot better. Would strongly recommend either of these over the Imate Jas Jam for anyone who is interested.

Wogboy. Glad you feel that way! Since my last post, my phone has frozen for no reason and I have had to reboot it! I hope you still like your phone in a year's time! Hi there. Well my brother and my best friend both bought JasJams awhile ago, and have had quite different experiences. I bought one yesterday to replace my PDA2K. I have found the phone to be terrible. It's just little things that are going wrong, like: -- Problems with the keyboard keys sticking -- Connecting to a PC (sometimes it can't be reognised by the PC) -- Not being able to delete contacts -- Phone suddenly goes dark, and will not turn on All these problems were solved by a softreboot, so after having had the phone for a day and setting it up, I had had to softreboot the phone at least 15 times! My friend says that his phone performs ok, however to keep it that way he soft-reboots it every morning. He tried contacting Imate and got the latest updates from them (ones that are not even available on the website yet, as he's in the industry) and he said this did not help his problems at all. My brother has had his Jas Jam longer, and is now having problems with the sound and other hardware devices. (his phone sometimes no longer rings or vibrates). These and other hardware issues seem to occur just outside the warrantee (1 year) period. Talking to the major supplier of JasJams here in New Zealand, I found out that all of them (except the one I bought) have been recalled by Imate in November 2007. There are various speculations as to why, but I believe it to be a combination of their poor reliability over time, and the anticipated launch of their new Ultimate (which is still not available here in New Zealand yet, but this could be because it requires maps that might be not available yet). One other thing I noticed, the Jas Jam was surprisingly slower to navigate and use than my old PDA2K! My friend also noticed the same thing. Hope this helps people. Jolyon

I used to have a lot of problems such as lockups, slowness, programs not running after install on my I-mate JasJam. But a couple of months ago I upgraded it to Windows Mobile 6 and all of the past problems I had disapeared straight away. Even Skype works now which I couldn't get going on Windows Mobile 5, bluetooth doesn't zap the battery power and is stable. In conclusion a lot of my problems came from Windows mobile 5 and its a great phone on WM6 !!

Dear doggz and to all Imate users having the same problem you're absolutly wrong ,... let me tell you what to do first of all usualy when you use a normal Personnel Computer you every 1 week or 2 you delete your cookies and the histories and the temporary files,..correct??? its the same with I-mate coz its a windows like the PC exactly so here out what to do and trust me you'll be fine 1- install Mobile anti virus "kaspersky is fine " 2- scan your device "what every you find the antivirus will guaranteed it. 3- its STRONGLY RECOMMENDED after every use of your Imate go to "start-setting-systtem-Memory-Running Programs- than click stop all". trust me it will become a usual to you you just do this every time you use your device or let say 4 times a day every 6 hours and mention me in your praying. regards

I came here before i bought the phone and left thinking it would be O.K, but the full on truth is that it is the worsed phone on the planet. My Advice is No1. If you do buy one, DONT buy it off of ebay, it is much easier to send it away for repair if it is on a plan and No2. i got a imat jasjam about 1 and a half years ago. It is an awesome phone - when it works but the truth is that out of the whole15 months that i have had it i rekon it worked properly for about 2 months of that. I sent it in for repair, they said they fixed it - 3 weeks later the same thing. it kept freezing, shutting down, not hanging up calls. touch zcreen out of calibration all the time, So i would recommend this type of phone but not this one. The person at the mobile shop said that she has had heaps of them coming back for this problem. So guys i would have to say it is the most user friendly phone/pda that i have ever used but the most unreliable that i have ever used. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!

To get back to factory setting: While holding left and right soft buttons together, press the soft reset hole (just above the battery compartment unlock slide switch) with your stylus. Follow the two instructions on the screen (Pressing R and pressing space bar). Make sure you have done all the backup before doing this. You can first try �Clear Storage� in Settings->System page. This probably has to same effect as the above.

Don't mind if a unit is old, SEE it's awesome features. N95 & K850i had no MS Excel & Word - programs that you always use only in your home & office computers. You can't install SOFTWARES in it, that's why it is called celphone not POCKET PC. Be a pro in a kid's play.

To fix the automatic connection to the gprs u can download a free program HTweakc from www.freewareppc.com and it also has alot add os to fine tune ur control upon ur jasjam what i really would like to know if there is anyway to get an audio stream via a bluetooth headphone

Once the phone is upgrade to WM6. The phone will automatically detect the mp3, tat mean you can set the sms alert just like the usual way. Cool eh?

so far so good only once in a month hanging which is the sign i need to switch off the phone for a while at least once per month. I would like to give due allowance to this otherwise excellent phone (definitely an equivalent of a 8-year old computer). I would not crib much about its slowness. But if the ringer stops to ring from time to time, how many times can one keep resetting the device to get the phone to ring?

Something I've wanted to put out there for a while. I work in a phone shop and as such see a fair number of JASJAMs coming through for repairs. I own a JASJAM myself, and as much as I'll acknowledge any legitimate phone problems that require repair, many "problems" that people have with their PDA type phones is their level of expectation. For all intensive purposes, a phone of this capacity is the equivilant of a 5 or so year old computer, which is also running as phone. It is understandable that with enough programs running, it will begin to get slow, or even crash - that is not a problem, that's just realistic, reset the phone and move on. Again, if the complaint is recurring and severe, take it in for repairs, but be realistic in your expectation for a phone that is running an operating system far beyond windows 3.11 (and not quite 95)

There is a + side as well as a - side in stopping running programs. It will certainly speed up execution of new programs when you stop all programs running in the background. However when you re-open a program which has been stopped, it will take longer to open. (Especially Contacts, Mail and SMS which generally will contain a lot of data).

Keep holding until you get a two line instruction on a full white screen and then follow the instructions. I have had my jasjam since feb this year and it has been back to the shop 3 times. Each time takes about 4 weeks to fix! Picked it up for the 3rd time on Tuesday and they told me I should upgrade to WM6 to fix any bugs! Well you cant! Imate haven�t released WM6 yet. This phone is rubbish and Imate's support is rubbish. Try speaking to anybody at any time, anywhere from imate is impossible. They don�t even reply to your emails. Don�t buy one!

Comparing the JasJam running Act! Contact and database management software, with an old iMate PDA 2K, or HTC blue angel, seems like a step backwards in performance. When the contact database gets too large (4000 contacts) on the JasJam the performance SEVERLY slows, looking up a contact takes at least 30 seconds, compared with the older models, which are almost instant, most of the time. I have no idea why this is, but if I come over any solutions I will post them.

I purchased the Jasjam in March this year (07). I originally sent it away as it had the white screen of death when you attempted to press the internet button up the top of the handset. The other problem was that my phone would not allow me to disconnect from phone calls (i would press the red button on the phone and also the end button on the screen with no success). So I got the phone back walked out of the shop to find that nothing had been fixed. To date I have been using a loan phone for 10 weeks.

i had a i mate jasjam. Only 6 months old. i recently had problem 2 weeks ago. The phone suddenly tell me the phone connection is not active and no phone service. The screen would freeze and i cant turn OFF or ON the phone when i press and hold the Power ON OFF switch unless i taken out the battery and put it back on again. i also notice the standby green light on the top of the phone isn't flashing. please help me somebody, there's no one here to help me on this small Island. I have been using Jasjam with a 512 MB card. Quite often I experience slowness. Is it due to running programs installed on the card or is it due to the mere presence of the card? I am asking this question because shop keepers at times recommend a smaller capacity card to avoid hanging problems. Any shareable experiences in the regard? If one were to avoid installing programs on the card, then the no. of software you install will get very limited and this by itself can slow down the device.

The (new?) piece given to me as replacement by iMate has the same problem -- ringer stopping to ring. With this piece, it stops ringing many a time after my using the keyboard or the headset. It is obvious that inserting and taking out the connector creates the problem. Also, quite frequently, when I switch on the device, nothing comes on the screen, i.e. the devices does not come ON. I need to do a soft reset -- which means a waiting time of about 2 minutes before you can use the device and losing the applications which were running and starting them all over again. I wish iMate takes user complaints more seriously.

I just got this phone for the 5th day. All i can say is "Best!". I have tried every function of the phone & it didn't let me down. The main purpose of me getting this phone is because it has got big screen (touchscreen), good speakers (so loud), play mp3 with expanable memory & video viewing supported, not too bulky & has got the style, wifi!!! tats it!! internet!!! & its free! full keyboard sliding out from the side for fast typing & cool looking! Price? for me..a phone like this, the price is very reasonable. & my wife like it, so i bought her another one today. Which cost me heaps!! but it all worth it! the only slightest thing that let me down is i can't change my message ringtone to mp3. But still, the most important thing of all is the style, quality, functionality & price is rite! go get one now! oh! the battery life is good too!

We just went for a months trip to thailand and I took my jasjam with me.. It performed flawlessly using the AIS/12call gprs/edge connection in thailand. I didn't have to visit an internet cafe once and used the jasjam for everything to do with the Internet for a month ! i was able to use it everywhere - in the car, hotel room, on the bus, on the boat in fact as long as I had a signal I could access the Internet for email and web browsing. I even took photos on the phone and emailed them to everyone while on the run :-) One thing I did find for all of you have sluggish problems with your jasjam.. If you go into: start/settings/system/memory/runningprogams and stop the programs running in the background all the slowness/sluggishness stops. I did this everytime after I used the Internet or had applications open and it was fine.. Even though the programs are stopped they must be running in part of memory still .. Steve..

Dear Mr.Hadi I am not quite sure how i did it , but if i was right ; i think you go to: start/setting/system/regional setting... you will find in the top of region menu the countries, all you have to do is changing the region to United States or UK. For all with problems go to XDA developers site and download the cooked (modified) Windows Mobile 6 Rom. Fixes stacks of issues. Phone works flawlessly. Anyone on Telstra firmware get rid of it..it's killing your phone/PDA. WM5 is the problem behind this device. Update the ROM and the Radio version you are using and it will be peace and love all over again. I have the AT&T 8525 (JASJAM, DOPOD 838 pro) and all I can say is this is the best phone i have owned. Skype works but you need to search hard and long for the .cab of the older 2.0 or 2.1 beta versions. They work fine over wifi and 3g. The 2.2 version of skype does not suport this device...period.

I bought a Jasjam last week and have configured my corporate email, everything works fine except the outgoing emails. I have the following issues; 1. I am in India and have configured the GPRS etc and am able to receive emails from my Corp Exchange 2003 SP2 Email server but not able to send emails. I have all the settings right still... 2. I am not quite clear abt the Direct Push thats available in the Phone. Though it is enabled I think unless untill you mark the outlook on your device to connect and check emails every 1 min, one will not gonna get the latest email. If this is the case then Direct Push does not add value. Probably I might not have understood the concept correctly.. Please help. Many Thanks!

This is further to my posting of 14.07.2007. I-Mate has since given me a replacement. So far so good. However the NEW ONE ALSO has the same problems. I am going to try the phone without any software installed, to see if the Ringer problem is not there. I work in the mobile industry and have to say this is by far the worst and most unreliable handset i have ever sold. We must have atleast 4 a week coming back to store for refunds or repairs even after software upgrades the problems still occur. I would NEVER recommend this handset to anyone wanting a PDA. Theoretically a very good PPC Phone. I have been facing two severe problems: 1. Ringer often stops ringing. Have to do soft-rest to make it work again. 2. Sluggish. Hangs often. Have been representing to iMate since Jan'07 (bought it in Oct'06). Had issues with touchscreen too, but was sorted out by iMate two months ago. Expecting replacement piece (new?) on Monday; hopefully iMate would keep its word.

I installed skype on my JasJam but I can only do text chats on it, If I try and do a voice call it trys to dial then after about 15 secs skype shuts down back to the login screen. Has anyone managed to get voice chats going on a JasJam, if you have what version of Skype did you use, I installed Skype for mobile version 2.2 Apart from that the Jasjam is the best thing I've ever bought - I can read an ebook and listen to music at the same time, Its GREAT !!

I luv my i-mate jas jam. I think it's the best investment for a phone I'll ever make on my phone plan, because of the email & internet facility. I was going for a business proposal-my laptop was out of order couldn't email my info, where as my i-mate saved the day as I was able to email my info from my i-mate. On Telstra next g network now having Foxtel the huge i-mate screen's great for watching foxtel like on a tv! I can take shopping photos eg for furniture for insurance & email them to my inbox to store photos of things to be insured. I think i-mate's brilliant! Ingenious! Best phone I ever had. I love how my screen savers/wallpaper photos look on it.

I-mate Jas JAm is one of the greate PC phone what i ever saw, it was very helpful and useful during my Trip In Georgian, ( Kauvkasia) Mountains, with the integrted GPS system it was veru easy to cordinate my roads, Batteries works perfect, Net possibilities are in good conditions, I was using Wifi and Lan connections, they are really good on this phone, I like it very much, and hope you will enjoy too.

I bought a Jasjam in Dubai in December 2006 and I use it in India where I work. This is a great product but one big draw back is: 1. Local Mobile Service Companies offer Blackbury software for PUSH tech for downloading mails from server to handheld instantly. This service works well with Nokia & Sony Ericson but not on Jasjam. 2. Consilient offers downloadable software with same PUSH tech on all handhelds incl i-Mate SP3 & SP5 but not on Jasjam. I am constantly on the move and receive huge amount of email daily. When on move I have to rely only on WEBMAIL access which PULLS mails from server & is very slow. Can you please collaborate with Consilient & include Jasjam also in their range of compatible handhelds. Can I expect a positive reply, please. CNR

I absolutely reccommend it to all my customers..to save battery go into backlight settings and adjust closest as possible to power save, and dont have your bluetooth on all the time.turn your phone of once every 24hrs and never let it go flat! I bought the Jasjam here in Saudi Arabia (Jarir Bookstore), I have not had any problems, accept for the 3G connection - it sux...calling STC for the 3G configs is not helpful at all, so I am now stuck with a large, expensive, PDA phone. Advise you to play with one before buying.

The camera is very dark. The face is not at all bright. 3G is not working. It worked for only 2 days. They say the operation system to be reflashed. I am not able to play mobile TV. platform 4 to be downloaded. Where I will get this ? Media Library is not stable. After creating, immediately the storage card details are vanishing. Phone voice is clear. Contact synchronisation is too good. But, do I need a phocket PC for contacts and phone ? Useless features. Useless phone.

PRO's ~~~~~~~~ * Reasonamble battery life compared to what I originally expected. * Great tool for checking email on the fly. I have mine configured to auto collect email every 15 mins. Hardly uses any more than 3 meg a month doing this (and this includes 3 seperate POP3 accounts), as I only ever download 15k headers to find out what message is about, and that way, when I'm out of the office, I always know if someone has tried to contact me via email. * Very loud speaker / ringer! Probably the first phone I've had where I can't complain about not being able to hear the ringer in one condition or another! Well done in that area! * Love the torch (flash fill from camera - which I use as a torch frequently). * The way the controls are layed out, it makes it possible to use the unit using one hand only to control various programs without stylus). * Very easy to set up as a Modem for laptop / computer compared to other phones I've used. * Charges via usb connection. Allows me to charge plugged into power point, in car, or via computer. (The latter a big plus to me personally!). * Non-volatile memory. I can pull out the battery, and all information remains! CON's ~~~~~~~~ * Locked down snooze options for reminders. You only have a limited amount of snooze options (and no options between 1hr and 1day!) This is locked down that much that even 3rd party applications can't modify the snooze options for outlook/calendar reminders. :-( * Snoozes are easilly missed / sent to background if initial alarm missed, and another activity (such as phone call) goes off. Too easy to miss reminders without 3rd party apps. In short - the whole snooze process could do with a complete rewrite, with more options. * Operating system is too bulky / slow for normal operation. Too many tweaks required out of the box to make it useable IMO. * Keyboard doesn't Lock properly. Very easy to slide out accidently. * Phone software - does not allow you to answer with Speaker. * Phone software - does not allow you to switch from bluetooth to speaker without first disabling bluetooth. * Phone software - grossly slow. Delay from when you press buttons to when you hear 'tone' of number * Phone software - does not allow you to delete all messages within a particular folder. (Such as delete all incomming SMS's only, but leave all outgoing, etc). Only options are 'Delete ALL' - which deletes everything, or delete individually. * Software does not allow connecting to internet automatically while connected to PC via USB, even if the PC has internet. Too much tweaking required. * Internet browsing way too slow, unless using telstra connection with telstra proxy, or confusing configurations with DNS settings. * Can't set ringer and vibrater to operate at same time. * Would have been nice in this day and age to have built in GPS. * Doesn't come with a built in / default MPEG player. * Hitting X button up top right corner does not close programs - but keeps them running in background. Can cause many background programs to stay running, and slow down operating system (even more than normal use!) * Sometimes external buttons won't work right after 'waking up' (such as phone ringing), and you need to tap screen to answer calls, etc. (Software bug/related) * Can't assign own ringtones / mp3 ringtones to ringer without 3rd party apps. * Can't assign group ringtones, or ringtones for certain contacts without purchasing 3rd party apps. (Old standard Nokia phones even allowed us to do this!) * Need converter to plug in headphones. Headphones connect via usb interface. * No option to backup programs/settings/etc when you upgrade the ROM. You lose everything, and have to reconfigure and reload from scratch each time their's an update. Summarys ~~~~~~~~ My first impressions of the jasjam unit were of great dissapointment. My 7 year old Palm Vx which I have used constantly until I purchased the jasjam seemed better in many areas, and I couldn't believe that my 7 year old Palm Vx was kicking Microsofts WM5's Operating system's but when it came to practical use! My biggest erk was the snooze options. (And after a brief google search for a solution, I found that I wasn't alone, and there was no solution) :-( I persisted with the unit, getting many 3rd party apps and making registry changes to fill in some of the downfalls the unit first offered, and find it now useable, but have had to submit to a few different ways of "doing things" (less efficient) than what I orignially had with my Palm Vx. Thankfully I have found a palm emulator software that allows me to run palm apps on my imate. I still get to use some of my favourite applications. :-) The imate jasjam unit itself is IMO a well made piece of equipment, but is severely let down by the operating system! The only alteration I would make to the hardware would be some sort of small lock to pull the keyboard out (say a button on the side, etc) to stop it from constantly sliding out. As you can see from my Con's above - most of them are software related, and you can pretty much blame Microsoft, with a small part of the blame I believe going to Telstra when relating to their customisation for their network). I think they really want you to use their mobile bigpond connection even if you have your own wifi network, or connected to a laptop. The phone software / GUI interface module could certainly do with a complete overhaul. My experience with NextG video calls are pretty much poor. Bad lag, and very jerky video graphics. I think they've tried pushing the technology out way too early, but then again, it doesn't worry me - because I can't see myself using that feature much at all anyway. The memory within the unit is also a little dissapointing. When I could go out and purchase a $50AUD 2GB microSD Ram card and shove in the unit, I would have thought that it should have been rather simple for them to have started with at least 512mb of ram as a default, and not the ~50mb you get to start with.

I have purchased the I-Mate JasJam 4 months ago,The last few weeks, the screen started to hang and give white screen for moments, then last week the screen became White completely with no icons at all, meanwhile the telephone still working. I got this PPC few weeks ago and I am very disappointed with this lock and sleep thing of this pocket pc, during sleep mode and if there is an incoming call the phone button respond very slow, there are time that the answer button on the headset does not work, when I pressed the answer button on the phone after the call, the screen bottom menu does not go back to unlock display but instead a normal "calendar" and "contact" menu are there, I was confused since it is currently locked but why the the unlock menu is not there, I just solved this problem when I press the power button twice.

I just bought this piece. I should say I like the piece. I haven't had to reset (hard or soft) even once in the last 8 days that I have been using (extensive use since it's new). The phone is a bit heavy; but then with a keyboard attached to it, one should have expected that. I am looking for software applications for this phone. Not the best pda / phone I have ever used. Definately two handed usage - not intuitive at all. Unstable software and OS. Soft reset up to 5 times daily. Incoming calls freeze device 2/3 times. I could go on as many other uses freeze the device. I have to hard reset once so far. It seems if its used as a basic calander, basic contact manager and phone its stability is reasonable - but then I can buy a REAL phone that can do that. Not impressed and cannot understand the 8/10 votes.

Nice heavy phone from Imate which does exactly the same as all their other phones. Mmm very exciting again, zzzzzzzzz. Only the ultimate range seems interesting but no release dates and weights of the phones. Rush out and buy this piece of junk just like I have been doing with their other phones. Another let down from Imate. I am making this comment because as a stupid idiot, I bought this phone, the Jasjar the Kjam, the Jam and the Smartflip which I would say is good but no WI-Fi. Shame about all the other phones they have made or should I say sold under their brand. Also has anyone ever managed to contact their customer service !!!!!!!!!

Good phone but go with O2 trion the equivalent because it has the O2 Plus feature which is very handy for call forward profiling if you are always on the move. Does anyone know how to put the O2 plus software onto a jasjam?

The cost in manufacturing the jasjam as higher than the jasjar thats why it costs more. Another thing, the jasjam has more features than the jasjar.

After I synchronise with Outlook on my company laptop, if I then try to enter Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications, the iMate JASJAM locks up and I can no longer change any settings. I need to reset to get it going again. This may be because I am using Outlook 2000 + Windows 2000 on my company Laptop (not by choice - no option!). Is this what is causing the lockup? Are there any solutions available? (Hard resets do not fix the problem.)

I wonder why ppl compare windows mobile based with SE p990 or any other symbian based phone. windows mobile 2003 or 2005 is far better than symbian. once you start using windows mobile you never go back to symbian. so go for windows mobile if you realy want something out of your mobile. if you want just a ding dong phone go for symbian based sony ericson or nokia phones.

it is not good. i purchased an imate jasjam on 22 December 2006 (about 3 and half weeks ago) and since i purchased it the touch screen was faulty. and took it to the dealer about 10 days ago and it was sent for repaire under warranty ( i asked for replacment since the imate was faulty from the start but they declined to give me replacement). anyway now i have been told that it would take at least two more weeks for the parts to arrive from dub. i find this unacceptable in this day age and after paying $1700 and getting a faulty product to wait three weeks for repair. imate has told me that they don't have any replacement policies in New Zealand but they certainly know how to charge the same amount of money. it is plain unfair and unacceptable for a device to be faulty straight out of the box

to add new ringtones it's in your manual you need to connect it to your computer and add new mp3's into a certain file it's windows rings or something look up your manual you can definatily do it

Go to the Windows... Rings folder and Drop your ringtones in that folder after which you should be able to set them as ringtones. The ones that u download usually get downloaded into your main folder.

I have had the Cingular 8525 Jasjam for about a week. After some initial setup "bugs" I have been very pleased with its function. My main uses for the device are: 1) Cell phone (Works well with Motorola Bluetooth car kit and earpiece.) 2) Pager - Issue: Notification Setting does not stay as requested ... it resets back to Active sync "sound". If anyone knows the fix for this, please let me know. Hopefully a software update from Cingular or HTC will fix this snag. 3)Calender function thru Outlook (Heavy usage) After having to hard reset once during setup, it syncs quickly and accurately. 4) Email - After settings were figured out, the email funtionality is excellent. I have set up my comcast and it works well. The text messaging works great as well. 5) Internet Explorer - Compared to my 2 & 1/2 year old IMATE with GPRS connectivity, the UMTS signal and setup on the device is a great improvement in speed and usability. 6) Although I have not used it yet, I am told by Cingular that this device will work well as a high speed modem for a laptop. I will update this site when I have a chance to use it. NOTES: The only thing that this device lacks is a built in GPS receiver, which can be addressed either through Cingular or a stand alone bluetooth GPS setup.

Finally received my repaired Jasjam after 34 days in the shop. Users be aware that the US-based shop CANNOT repair Jasjams and need to send the unit to Dubai, so don't expect any quick repair work. The shop replaced the LCD (problem: faulty stylus screen entry) which has been the plague of Jasjam and other models related to this platform (all these are made by the same OEM company, HTC in Taiwan). This problem has been reported at several instances in this site, including HTC's TyTn and reflects the overall reliability issues (or complete lack of it) for most HTC manufactured devices. So, don't waste your time and money.

Disadvantages: 1. Bluetooth connections with car phone mostly all models dosen't work. 2. Synch process needs long process (10 minutes or less), if not works need to re-install the Windows Synch on the PC again with deleting the pairing information at the PDA. 3. Some repeated alarms (Outlook users call it Recurrence) when request to snoze after one day it won't work, specially the appointed that being edited and within a series. 4. No available accessories (case, screen protectors...etc.). 5. Keyboard is not nessocary at all!!. 6. Both Cameras is not clear within night time, even if you use the Flash light. Advantages: 1. For Arabic users, the support for Arabic is better with one point of view notice within SMS. 2. WLAN & 3G services(Video Calls, internet) is very nice. 3. The ultimate useage of the Win Mobile 5 with the processor, no need to soft reset for the device all the time. 4. Availability to install programs in the memory card. P.S.: I was using I mate 2020 and used Nokia communicator and SE P910i, I liked I-mate more and with the 3G support of JASjam I liked it more. Frankly the imate product range are heaps of ****. I have an imate jamin and an imate jasjam and they are both broken. the jamin failed whilst on charge and i refused to pay the $300 charge to replace the screen. I also have the jasjam which is in the telstra repair yards waiting for a new mainboard with no eta on repair or delivery. Both devices failed within one month of signing the contract with telstra. And telstra has been of no help at all. Their customer service has been abysmal with their only suggestion being to pay them off or pay out the contract. Unsurprisingly the offer to pay out over $1200 for the privelege of owning 2 broken phones does not appeal. as usual telstra's solution has been "if you dont like it, leave"So now i am paying for two phones that are A) not in my possession and B) both broken. Both models had to be constantly rebooted and both models would 'freeze' when someone phoned in. I now pay $160 per month for the privelege of using a telstra loan phone (an i mate jam) which has surprisingly not failed. all in all i am underwhelmed with the product and will never consider them again. or telstra.

I had Imate PDA2K, I never had any problem with PDA2k, than i bought JASJAM, but it has some software issues and I have to reset JASJAM twice or maybe 3 times in a day. I bought JASJAM in October and the main Problem still the Accessories are still not available, like Leather Cover. I search in Dubai but No where is Available.

Clarification: HTC (Taiwan based company) is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) that designs and manufactures smart phones as well as PDA phones for different customers and I-Mate is one of them. The base design for the I-Mate's Jasjam is HTC's TyTn which is also the same as Model 8525 for using Cingular Wireless label for the US market. So far, the reliability record of the TyTn (and equivalent devices) has not been stellar. I will provide the link to a Taiwan website indicating most of the fundamental reliability problems due to faulty design. EX-Mate

Haven't received my new Jasjam from service warranty repair after almost a month now (unit was sent to Dubai from U.S. since U.S. based repair center techs are not trained for Jasjam repair). I was in Taiwan recently and a colleague showed me a website (in Chinese) describing the field return rate of HTC's TyTn (same as Jasjam). So far, it has been 3% (this is plenty) primarily due to various failures caused by the slider connecter interface (connection between screen and main body). It showed several failed units in which the connector is eventually pinched in constant use of the slider and causes all sorts of problems, including stylus entry failure such as mine. So far, I have not heard any recall notice but unless this is done, I-Mate's name is in great jeopardy. For those planning to buy the Jasjam, DON'T unless you're a gadget martyr.

I have the JASJAM (from the Telstra NextG $80 plan) for over a month now. It is my first PDA phone so it took me a while to understand how it worked. Once I read through the manual and things started to work very well. ActiveSync , Wifi, wireless modem, etc all function properly. Call quality is also very good. I also test the camera and quality is quite alright as long as the lighting condition is good. I'm using that as my mp3 player these days too. BTW, I have found one more useful feature of this phone. Turn on the camera mode, then turn on the flash, and it becomes a little torch:)

Purchased a Jasjam late October and worked flawlessly for one week (I'm US based). Thereafter, soft resets became more frequent and eventually, the stylus screen entry stopped working. Tried the I-Mate support suggestion of reloading the operating system with no results and ultimately sent the device to the US based warranty repair. Got a call from the repair center and told me they have to send the unit to the Dubai office since they don't have "trained Jasjam techs" (Huh?). So far, I'm out of a phone for almost a month. Quality/reliability of both unit and service looks quite mediocre.

(2) unable to use WinMediaPlayer coz my PC refuses to see the SD card so it cannot even start to synch (3) freezes & hangs ... I just wanted to know if you are able to type text using the QWERTY keyboard with only 1 hand??? I really like everything about this device but I sometimes hate the hassle of having to tap the screen or slide the keypad & have to use 2 hands just to type 1 word (I'm always on the go). I know you might tell me to not get a SLIDE phone/pda but I have to have all the specs of this device, plus I like the design & all. One other thing; can anybody post a picture taken from this pda? I have had the jas jam for a month and very pleased. Better than blackberry and it syncs great with vista. I also had some problems with it slowing down a lot and required a manual shutting down of active programs to fix. A bit confused why some think the dopod 838 pro is the same thing as the jas jam, though identical in appearance (both made by HTC), only the jasjam offer HSDPA (google it), end results in faster speeds on vodaphone or telstra. I chose telstra then moved to vodaphone as I travel a lot and telstra uses the 850 khz freq. versus the 2200 of HSDPA and vodaphone. This means if you travel outside of Australia 3g won't work on telstra but will on vodaphone, also I find the speed of vodaphone (3.5mb in airports) much better than telstra. i actually work for Telstra and even though i think that the Next g network works quite well (feedback from customers as well) i myself had the device for 4 days and it started to play up, first the keyboard won't work and then the Media player stopped updating the library with my mini SD. It has now been sent away and i'm getting a new replacement sometime this week. As i have heard from many Telstra shops, the average return rate for these JasJams are around 20 out of every 100 sold. Imate has admitted that there seems to be a major software issue and might be considering doing a mass recall-but unsure at this stage. i personally don't have anything against the JasJam, as a matter of fact i love the phone, just has some issues, many phones have their manufacture issues. I had the imate PDA2k EVDO not long ago and that was a good phone too, just turned out to be too big so i sold it.

Besides that, 3, Optus and Vodafone will all have 3.5G either at the same time or even before T$ gets it going.

Hiyas, have been using the imate JasJam on Telstra in Australia for 2 weeks. Phone has performed perfectly, I can listen to MP3's, connect thru wifi and surf the net at great speeds. It's even let me toss out the diary I've been keeping all year. I'd give the phone 9/10 (10/10 if it had a better camera!) For those considering the Dopod from 3, it may be cheaper but will not give you the speed and coverage of Telstras NextG service whose high speed network covers over 4x the area of 3's network.

I've had the JasJam for a few weeks now, but I signed up onto the 3 network. Had great reception, excellent coverage and great speed. Extremely pleased with it all round - it does just about everything except make my coffee. At home I connect via wi-fi, travelling I use the 3 network - no problems, always connected. I put a 2Gb micro-SD in it, and I've got over 1gb of MP3s to listen to (either on BT stereo headset or wired earplugs), as well as room for work spreadsheets, Word files, photos and video snaps. Reception is crystal clear over voice, email works great, connects remotely to work. Really excellent phone all round - only downside was the price Telstra charged me. Should have waited a few weeks and bought it as a Dopod from 3, and saved myself $300!!.

One positive comment: Yesterday I was driving in the Australian Outback-between Grafton and Byron Bay, where other operators are challenged to provide GSM coverage and with just one bar of reception I was able to download heavy www.whereis.com pages with relevant maps in a matter of seconds via Telstra's 3.5G network - while doing 110km's an hour.

I posted a comment earlier about my Jasjam and have to say that things have actually gotten worse. I have interest in taking the company down - just need it to work and assist me in my business development activities - have no time to waste on posting to forums - or wasting time with vanity publishing. That said the device may function differently depending on the provider/carrier. I do not know if Telstra has loaded other apps on the phone that cause it to freeze like it does. Yesterday it took more then 90 seconds for the phone to paint the screen - which it did in blocks. Answer buttons do not work - not able to accept incoming calls regularly. Other buttons like the back button on the virtual keyboard does not work at all - and does so randomly. There is no argument that the functionality offered on the device is incredible - but the functionality needs to work - and when it does not - it represents a roadblock on the way to a good user experience. I am a HTC fan - through thick and thin - otherwise I would have chucked the Jasjam in the bin by now as I do not have time to help hardware companies improve their hardware. My XDA Mini is warming up - and if this Jasjam does not start behaving - I will be forced to pull it off the field and revert to my XDA Mini. Progress has always has a cost - it should be monetary - not at cost of productivity.

I�ve been using this mobile/pda for a month now everything about it is great, I just don�t understand the negative reviews, its like some one is trying to strike an attack on the company saying that its slow or it has faults well I don�t think so, and we should remember that this is a pda and does not work as fast as a computer works. Further more here�s what I�ve tried out: 1. As a phone it works perfect and when writing SMS it exceeds itself, I love the keyboard which has a sensor that automatically turns on a light in the keyboard when you�re in dark places so you can see the letters on the keyboard. And by the way nothing�s wrong with keyboard it works as it should like a keyboard. 2. The GPRS works fine using the wireless modem, although it may work slowly but that depends on the network not on the phone. 3. I installed a 2GB micros SD card which I purchase from Amazon and I�m installing games, programs plus music and I keep all my files with me. 4. The sound is great especially with the headphone. 5. The dictionary that comes with is very good it can translate any word, and I have the Arabic version of the mobile, where you can translate anything to English Arabic and visa versa. 6. 2 Mega Pixel camera. 7. It�s not heavy at all. 8. For developers and IT professionals, you can easily program your own windows applications using visual studio 2005, and the terminal service program works great with windows server 2003 or windows XP. 9. I haven�t used 3G because my network doesn�t support it. 10. It synchronizes perfectly, where it has Outlook express; imagine carrying your email where ever you go. 11. The Bluetooth is great. I think once you own this baby you can�t let go of it, and that�s a fact

Our company has had 3 of these. All 3 of our execs have had real problems with drop outs on the Telstra Next G network. Dropped it back to GSM only which was better, but still getting drop outs and poor reception. As a PDA, I think it's excellent and a great performer, but so far, as a phone, it sucks! Telstra have been great and are sending a new one to replace mine, and some new SIM cards to see if that's the problem. Most of the problems are while driving, with bluetooth car kit, so wonder if that could be an issue. Any ideas or comments very welcome. I don't want to get rid of the JasJam as, other than phone quality, everything else is cool!

I just bought the jasjam, all good but can't seem to find anywhere if it is possible and/or how to set message tones apart from the boring default ones. It is a pain to set ringtones to. apart from that it is really good.

I have had it 3 weeks now and after having a very good experience with my O2 XDA mini - I have to say this is less of a smooth sailing start: 1) It is terribly slow - and I am willing to be patient in exchange for functionality - unlike general users 2)On the first synch it took the "+" out of a lot of phone numbers (inexplicable how it did this in a random way). I have over 5000 numbers on my database - this is a hassle- because it means you cannot make a phonecall unless you edit the number first. 3)It freezes so often, on different ocassions with different applications. At one point the screen had a pink haze over it when freezing 4)Headset is usb-not the generic jack-not practical 5)Keyboard commands do not work - randomly - and very important ones - like the back button or the enter button. 6)Virtual Keyboard dissappears: This is a real nuisance - keyboard actually moves outside your screen parametres with a third of the keyboard not available. Have to turn off the phone to get it to return to its normal place. 7)Hard Freeze: Everything locks up and you can leave it for 6 hours and cannot turn it off nothing. Only option is to take the battery out of the back and restart that way. I hope these things are going to go away - like they occurred only in the beginning for ssome of the other posters here. If they don't - I will bring back the device- a real pity considering that this Jasjam is sspecially HHSDPA enabled for Telstra Australia and running on the 3.5G NextG nnetwork here in Australia:-(

Had this for 2 weeks now. I really like it, although it seems a little slow on pda functions sometimes. Had to do a few soft resets the first week when programs seemed to freeze, but it has been fine since then. Much better voice dialling than my previous phone. No synch probs. Keyboard great for texting and notes. Love that fact that it charges with usb connection. Did not like the stock case that came with it though, bought a leather flip case from ebay. Overall, I am pleased I got it. (must admit I haven't really pushed it hard application wise as yet).

fone fanatic Iam trying to decide between the p990 and the jasjam. I like the p series for ease in making calls(it has the numerical pad).You mentioned the slideout keypad not good for making calls on the jasjam. Ive used the xda(same virtual keypad as the jasjam) and found the virtual kepad not easy to dial numbers compared to the p9 series. This is important to me as most of my calls are made while I'm driving. Otherwise the jasjam would be ideal.

also have had problems with alignment with my k-jam. Mostly can correct but once had to reset device as couldn't get down to screen alignment section as styless so far out of alignment. possibly a i-mate fault.

Had this a week with web and walk tariff on t-mobile and am impressed with data ability and keyboard but I'm getting screen alignment problems. Evey now and then alignment goes slightly adrift. Reconfiguring sorts things out but after a while it goes again. Am going to return unit and am wondering whether to exchange for a different handset while I can. Anyone else having alignment issues?

mjr: 1) yes it does have voice dial, you have to record the voice tags, i don't know how many it can store, but i suggest looking into Microsoft Voice command where you don't have to record the voice tags. 2)yes you can, but its easier to use the screen 3)you can use a 3rd party application to record voice convos Alex: go to download.microsoft.com and get the latest activesync, which is currently 4.5b2

Active Sync is not working properly. They said in the manual to install the software on PC and plug imate viaUSB then it will recognize and syncronize. I tried to update from ActiveSync 4.1 to ActiveSync 4.2 but no sign of hope. Please help.

some reasons why u should not spend allot extra on jasjam and stick to kjam or jasjar: 1.kjam(u will save allot of cash and by a bit of overclockin u can achieve phenominal speed) 2.jasjam has the worst keyboard ever i have used it. 3.pathetic 2mp camera so no point buyin if u lookin to use it for camera applications. 4.jasjar has high resolution with a 1.3 mp camera which does not matter bcoz all the imate phone suck at pic quality. stick to k-jam if u have one don b stupid and spend more if u have a jasjar and want somethin a bit compact get a kjam trust me jasjam is not worth the xtra cash.

Probably the best i-mate device available to buy on the high street! The difference between the JASJAM & JASJAR is the obvious difference in the screens but bare in mind the JASJAR only runs the graphics at half the screens capabilities due to not enough speed. The processor speeds way in at JASJAM-400Mhz & JASJAR-520Mhz. When buying one of these devices just consider the size, JASJAM against the JASJAR and can you live with 120Mhz less for a much more manageable sized device. For me the obviouse choice is the JASJAM! P.S. for the people that care bout cameras the JASJAM is far better!

Hi I am double-minded between the JasJam and JamIn ... I've been getting mixed reviews about them. True, JasJam has a keyboard and 3G but according to some, the battery life is not as long and the processor is not that much faster either. Which one should I go for? Great Phone compared to my Jam. Its a little bit slower than the Jam noticable when running more than one application at the same time. The key board is almost useless when u are used to using the stylus, and it makes it much thicker. It has frozed many times almost at least once a day and I had to soft reset it. WLan is great as a new addition. 3G internet web browsing is fine, but I havent used it in video calls yet. Over all ita fine Pocket PC and I am enjoying it.

Hi All, I've owned a number of Imates including (JAMin and PDA2k) and recently purchased the JASJAM (One week). I have the following advice for potential JASJAM buyers: Pro's 1. Good battery life (2 full days regular use and 3 days no use - establishing battery life) 2. Great keyboard. Nice size buttons, great looking with lots of built in functionality to save the user from using the stylus while typing. 3. Love the new scroll button and ok button. Makes browsing, opening and closing files very easy and practical, also good for searching for numbers to dial. 4. Micro SD card. Although I have not yet found a supplier of 1GIG cards. 5. Single sync connector and earphone jack � again very ergonomically designed. Cons 1. I feel this phone is still a little slow. Running a Samsung 400mhz processor, I thought Imate would have launched something faster. 2. I find when I am sent an sms, instead of receiving ONE message I receive up to 40 of the same messages.. Not sure if this is a setup problem or phone problem. (Any ideas?) 3. Delay when answering phone calls. I find when I answer a call, there is a slight delay, often I have to say hello twice. 4. Badly designed Battery cover. The cover almost feels like it will pop off any second. Previous models had better designs. 5. No FM radio. Yes I know it has virtually everything else, but hell the O2 has one.. 6. Very costly

I got the Jasjam about 10 days ago as a replacement for my K Jam.First of all because when I needed this inf I couldnt find it it works well with stereo bluetooth (SE HBH D970) and even the play/pause and rewind/forward buttons on the SE work with the Jasjam. Overall spec wise this is a much faster device but what I notice most is that the K jam bettery lasted much longer and so far this device cant do anything (except for bluetooth stereo )that the K jam couldnt do.Even the Wifi was more stable on the K jam.

Though, it's still a pricey unit, I was able to purchase mine fairly inexpensivly at elite-electronix.com for $879. If anyone is looking for an upgrade to their JasJar unit, the smaller, faster JasJam is an ideal alternative.

I bought JASJAM 2days ago and it seems much better than other i-mates specially its much faster than the JAMin I used to have and I like the 3G feature in it but the problem is the keyboared you have to press some letters couple of times to appear on the screen but I still like it.

Manufacturer is HTC and it is same model as TyTN (check it out in ). You can check CORRECT spec via HTC plus PRICE. HTC TyTN and JasJam accept MicroSD (other name TransFlash) which are used in all Samsung, Motorola and partially a fre Nokia such as 3250, 6125,6131 etc. It is one of the MOST available MMCards that one can find. All HTC models do not have FM radio function. If FM radio is important then you need to go for O2 ATOM or ATOM EXEC. All those models, yes, they use stylus. And, sometimes there are keyboards for TyTN/JasJam model or wireless QWERTY keyboard for O2 ATOM & ATOM EXEC. The new generation of HTC and O2 are VERY good models in addition that they are the best PDAs in the market which are Window based. Bill Gates is coming....

But just wondering in the 4 pages of users opinion I read no one mentioned a screen allignment problem heavily reported on other websites such as the xda-developers.com. This is actually the HTC TyTn - overall specifications are very good especially connectivity. I like this phone - but have to agree with the guy(s) / gal(s) who have said that writing reviews based on articles and specifications is absolutely useless. Once you have the unit in your hands and you have used it for a few hours, thats the time one really understands the issues. SO, specifications wise its terrific - remains to be seen if it is up to hype. its expensive.

I lend my voice to support someone in this forum who wondered how people could start to write about performance for a device that has not even been launched. I have had 2 i-mate devices - the sp5m and the JasJar, and I would caution that people don't rush into buying new i-mate devices. The JasJar only became reasonably ok after 2 ROM upgrades. Even then, the red characters on the dark brown keys are very hard to see. Because of this I do not consider the JasJar a great device and I only use it occasionally. For the sp5m, after only a few weeks of use, the screen suddenly developed a smear - even though I never dropped the unit nor treated it roughly. Overall, there remain quality and usability issues with these i-mate devices.

Just got this device in T-mobile UK yesterday and I have to say it is the best Pocket PC phone I have ever had te pleasure of owning. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. I've owned the JasJar, K-Jam and Jamin (still got that one) and this JasJam (mine is the T-mobile Vario II) is by far the best. The 2 MP camera is absolutely superb and whilst the video recording format is limited to only mp4 format, it is excellent. The device is fast in every respect, the screen is bright and crisp and the ROM seems to be very stable. I'm extremely impressed by it and rate it higher than the JasJar, and that's taking into consideration I have no VGA screen! It's a delight to use and I am currently posting this message via it over wi-fi, though I am able to get speeds in execess of 1 MBs on the HSDPA (3.5G network) if my signal is strong! Battery life is surprisingly good (I've also owned the Samsung SGH-i300 smartphone with abysmal battery life). I think I've found my perfect device!lol High speed Internet access at home or on the move Fast CPU Brilliant Camera and good camcorder (for mp4 format) Very customisable CONS: Transflash SD Card (limited to 2GB as opposed to my previous 4GB SD Card) All in all, I'm a very happy camper. Hope this persuades some of the doubtful ones out there.

This is indeed a well planned and designed unit when compared to the similar ones eg.K-JAM,JAMin etc since they do not support 3G. Imate JASJAM is also better than JASJAR in one way since it also supports EDGE(JASJAR doesnt feature EDGE).

When i first heared about a new model coming soon i expected more enhacments. I have a K-jam which is more than enough to me. The first difference that u notice is that this new JASJAM has a 2mega p camera instead of the 1.3 that the k-jam has. then what makes this mobile unique in the i-mate family is that it's the first device that has a second camera for viedo conferance that work on the 3g new network. this new JASJAM sounds a nice option if u want to move from a regular phone to a PDA but for me i dont think i will replace my dear k-jam. I hope the performance comes up to be better than the kjam which I had to give swap for a smartflip till some better pda (that doesn't have a weak processor) comes to surface. In the meantime, I have a question: How on earth do people post a vote about performance when the mobile is still coming soon? the site managers shd look in that for all "coming soon" mobiles, and remove that option from the default choices.

We are looking at upgrading our phones to the Jasjar, but, we were wondering if anyone has had the chance to experiece the phone first hand yet. Knowing how most PDA Phones work these days sometime the phone quality of your voice is not clear. We have had past experiences with I-mates and you can sometimes not hear to other person on the phone and they say they clarity is not great. So we just wanted to know is anyone who has this phone yet is experiencing the above. Thanks

Stop wondering where to buy this phone. It is lready for more than 2 weeks available from the REAL MANUFACTURER HTC and it is the TyTN. Check it out on the website and you will see price as well with FULL spec. It is the perfect size and instead of buying the P990 you can buy this instead as it is a Window based mobile as well. By the way, the REAL manufacturer is HTC so why bother to buy it as an I-Mate. HTC is the main player from now on and who knows....may be they will stop producing it for I-mate!!

What the hell is wrong with I-Mate ? Qteck 9600 is available and O2 also has released ther XDA and I-mate is not releasing JASJAM and you can't even find it on their website !!!!!!! I am dying to get it. Does anyone know if this device is available in Dubai?

To prevent stylus from falling out of K Jam, put tape around the stylus to make it fit more snugly in the stylus holder.

Any idea when will iMate Jasjam be available in Dubai and what is the expected price. Just hope that they don't over price it. Also I am not so sure if this will have the same problem as K-JAM with the stylus falling off with usage. Any pointers on this ?

How is the processor speed? The last imate i had was the SP3i and that was awfully slow. Does this thing feez at all? Also how is Windows Mobile 5.0, feez or restarts as freequently as Windows Smartphone did?

Hi...Im a mobile maniac and Im quite impressed with the JASJAM.I own and KJAM and i hardly found any key changes in the JASJAM.All the phones possess similar features.The major differences are the following: - 2MP Camera & and an additional camera for video calls - 3G connectivity These are the only major differences.My KJAM gets hanged sometimes and has some problems right from the day I have purchased it.I hope the JASJAM doesnt come up with such problems. The JASJAR is pretty huge and bulky.I found the JASJAM the best PDA phone among IMATE products. I hope its priced fairly :) -

Sounds great. I hope its release doesn't get drawn out like the Sony Ericsson P990. However, I can't tell if this or any other similar "smartphone" devices can send and receive a fax document directly from the phone to a fax number. Anybody? Can it be that all these big phone manufacturers have missed or ignored this useful option?

I think the main differnce in K-Jam and Jasjam is that Jasjam has Video calling whereas k-Jam doesn't have that feature and also there is the differnce in the Processor,this time HTC has used the Samsung Processor instead of Intel X-Scale processor

Read carefully. There are more new features (from the K-JAM) apart from the 2M pixel camera - 400 Mhz Processor - 3G - Longer stand-by time - 2M Pixel camera - however, no infrared port That's all I can find. :)

HTC manufactures 90% of Smartphone�s, the i-mate jasjam and Qtek 9600 will have identical functionalities but the q-wert keyboard coloring will differ. The main difference of this phone compared to the kjam is the camera is 2.1, processor is faster, and obviously key factor its 3G ready. Which phone would I buy between the QTEK and the i-mate if and when they get released simply the cheaper one.

The i-mate jasjar has a 512 intel bulverde processor and this has a 400mhz samsung.does this mean this will be slower than jasjar.can someone explain the difference between the two processor.

Thats because it is the same phone. Just under a different carrier. Kinda like the jasjar from I-mate and the XDA EXEC from O2. Most of the pdas and smartphones both companies offer are made from the company HTC.
