I owned one of these phones years ago. Apart from its uniqueness ie, it's swivel display, I got rid of mine because of its limitations. Memory is too small, operating system is out of date & with the way technology is advancing so fast, this phone has now become a collectors item. It was a nice phone to own for a short time but it's now past its use by date.

I have connected to my Jasjar the bluetooth headset HBH-DS970 but it works only for the telephone calling and receive/answer it, it works to start a calling with voice control, but it doesn't work with music. I have an old version of Windows 5.1

To switch off Jasjar is enough to close the cover (display) or press the button on the left near the SD memory drive. BR.

Make an HARD RESET, so it will back as new, but all the data will be deleted (I hope you have some backups). You can search how you can do an hard reset on the manual, or you can try pressing at the same time: reset (in the small hole) and two keys with the "line" near the display (function keys). I've had the MDA pro from t-mobile which is the jasjar. You can get double and treble as well as single size battery. been using double battery for a few years now after eratic behaviour, then trying battery change. Just look for batteries for jasjar on the net

The battery back-up of Imate Jasjar is not to gud however I used to keep 2 batteries with me which u can easily get from Gaffar Market (delhi). Secondly Memory Booster is a software unlike any other software its also gets stored in program files folder.

I own an Imate JasJar phone with which I am able to browse at hot spots or when connected to my notebook using Active Sync. However my attempt to use it in areas with GPRS such as Nigeria has failed. It will sync with Vista. I'm using it with Vista, no problems. It is clunky, but I'm using it to test Win mobile 5.0 software, so it's ideal. It won't be leaving my home or I might need a reinforced pocket and a big pair of baggy pants.

Your phone is being locked by the local service provider. so if u have a contact with them you will not be able to change the sim, coz they lock the set u need to see your local techi for unlocking the phone

You can't change to WM6.0 or WM6.1 .because this mobile have a 64 ram and the WM6.1 recommend 192 ram and the 6.0 recommend 128 ram, BELIEVE me this phone is old and rubbish.

I have just aquired a Jasjar...and am dismayed to discover that I cannot Autosync with my laptop which has Windows Vista. Hi all, I am using I-MATE jas jer from last 3 years.. truly I dint like this phone.. Expected some more features from this phone.. Parts are very expensive.. And u cant find them easily Battery life is not good at all.. It will give u a backup for only 20 to 22 hr Without using.. When it is new.. I.e. for 1 year... After that only 12 to 13 hrs without using this set.. u will not able to talk Continuously more than 1/2 hrs... Friends it is complete waste of money..

Hello Dear Amr Salah, ROM Cookers in xda developers cooked many ROMs from other HTC like Diamond and etc , you can go tho and then in Universal Forum WM 6.0 and download and upgrade your Device to WM 6.0 or 6.1 , i upgrade it over 10 times with all ROMs but i think i-mate wm5 is the best ROM that work more safe and Stable.

Hi, I think you should use this, its good for people using emails for business.... any how you can buy a new battery, it would probably cost only Rs. 600/-, but do not plug without any battery in that.. there'll be no current passing, so therefore ad a new battery charge fully if still does not work, then get your software re installed. Pummy, You should spend more time at -developers/forum. There you'll see lots of ROM images for HTC Universal (the generic name for devices including the i-mate JasJar). I recommend you download the latest ROM from Ranju (v7.6) which upgrades your JasJar to WM 6.1, and re-flash your device with it.

I have downloaded a ROM JASJAR_ME_13082_171_10900_wwe_ship and installed in my Imate JASJAR; Now when I start my mobile, it shows like "No GSM D 1.30.82 WWE". Now my phone has stopped working. When I try to load any ROM now it shows the error called N-N-12-12-12. It is a very stupid device. Atleast there should be som procedure for reverting back to original position. I had given soft reset and hard reset to my phone, but to no avail. My lcation is New Delhi (INDIA) and I had been using GSM services of Airtel.

Software is the answer to most problems and fortunately WM excels in this department.Install PiePlus and see how GREAT internet explorer can be.Want to have mp3 for ringtone/sms tone well their's a few ways but the easiest option is to install Ringo mobile.

Had my JasJar for a few months now. Problems with it crashing appear to be related to WM5 rather than the unit itself. Am hoping to try WM6 soon. Incidentally, I recently downloaded TCPMP and I can now watch movies on my JasJar (mpeg1 seems to be best), which is great when you're away from home - and then you can appreciate how good the screen is.

The jasjar is an extremely well engineered piece of kit.The set dosen't lag with a wm6 ROM but of coarse you need to keep an eye on things which is where software like pocket mechanic comes in.

I am very unimpressed. the phone will freeze, has really pathetic signal reception, impossible to view the screen outside, battery life useless especially when running gps, the turnscreen is flimsy and has had to be repaired after 3 months.

the bottom line is, this device is an evolution in pda's.. till now there nothing in the mkt to compare with it.. the people complaining about its short battery life should adopt certain settings like.. minimum back light,in power setting selecting swithing of device if not used for 2 minutes, switch of blue tooth, wifi etc. and to switch on once needed.its a business tool not to be played with for wathcing movies, listening to music , tv. etc.. if u really wana go for an all in one device, then you must bear a minor draw back of battery life. but i think the battery life is quiet enough for a normal use of phone. its bin more than three years i'm using Jasjar.. but never found it troubling me..

Hey everybody i am having i-mateJasjar for 3 months when i firstly got it the battrey did acculty work out the pc phone didnt open with in couple of months i brought another battery, the phone started up and worked once i got the charge of the phone it loses 2 or 3% of its power in short i cant go use it for more than hour even if i left it in sleepy mode for 2 hours more it go dead, even i made all the possible way to save its charging i cant figure out whats wrong with it so i am tired of it i cant think any more whats wrong so anybody can help is welcomed thanks all ...

JASJAR: After 14 months of use, the sound (mic and speakerphone) stopped working. Sent it for repairs, and they said motherboard was bust. Cost around 800USD for a motherboard. Now I have a heavy paperweight! SP3 - After 12 months of use, power button snapped, colour of cover was scrappy. I-mate quality terrible. I would rather buy a less functional Nokia. At least they work for more than 2 years, with great support from their support centres!

Excellent device. I've been using my JasJar for a week now and I'm very happy. I was initially struck by the build quality, it feels very solid, and the silver/gun metal finish is lovely adds to this nicely. The VGA screen is excellent and displays fonts much smaller than I though it would be capable of. The camera is surprisingly good for 1.3mp. The tilt/swivel screen is well put together and doesn't feel like it's going to come loose during it's lifetime. Two small rubber stops cusion the screen when closed and once closed is not over easy to open. The keyboard is very usable both for use in-hand with thumbs but moreover on the desktop with fingers like a pocket laptop. A light-sensor switches on the keyboard backlight when ambient light is low but this can be disabled such that the backlight always comes on during keyboard use. The keyboard backlight is red as opposed to blue as per the XDA Exec (don't know about the Qtek). Battery life is perfectly acceptable/good with only the phone transciever activated (including overnight standby). Power is via mini-usb which is great as you have power from any computer and usb chargers are much cheaper than some proprietry chargers. Despite being larger and heavier than some other PDA's, the JasJar is still easily pocketable, even in a shirt pocket, if you don't mind the weight. Small niggles: Softkeys are set for 'Calendar' and 'Contacts' and are not user-definable (that I've found). Pressing the 'Internet Explorer' button causes IE to go to the i-mate homepage even if IE is already open. Finally, sound quality from the built-in earpiece and speakers tends to distort easily and generally only reproduces higher pitch sounds. This detracts from the overall quality but is still perfectly usable as a phone whether on loudspeaker or normal use. The device was not supplied with the latest firmware. All my other niggles would be with WM5 limitations which will hopefully be solved with WM6. For those interested there is a working Linux port (but still a little behind WM5/6). If you don't want Qtek or XDA Exec then the best price I found for the JasJar was from Inkino (mail-order and street presence). Hope this helps.

No the speakers are not louder than the S.E.W or K series,infact the sound is rather tinny!Why anyone wants to listen to music through a ppc speakers is a mystery to me!You are aware that the jj has 3.5mm jack so get yourself a decent app*pocket player* and enjoy!furthermore be aware of the many SUPERB applications this device can be enhanched by.Take the time to read and learn as much as possible and you will see the jasjar is simply out of this world!

I almost made a wrong decision of selling off my jasjar phone. I was about to swap it wid a Samsung TV phone. But when i looked into more details of that phone and compared it with jasjar's i am proud that i have accessed this website and made comparison and finally decided not to get rid of my jasjar. So far, im comfortable wid jasjar...except for the battery life Jasjar is perhaps the best fone for business executives like me.. WLAN is one of the things that most execs want for their daily life...so jasjar has it...i wont change phone again...promise.

Hard reset.Yes the jasjar is good and providing you have the latest ROM it's reasonably fast too.Software is expensive though so bear this in mind if your considering purchasing the beast!Or get into warez :-D

This is great as a PDA - but lousy as a phone! Bought one, then sold it ASAP. Biggest single issue for me was when closed with the display hidden, none of the buttons light up when it rings. All too often I pushed the red telephone button instead of green to answer in dim lighting. The phone interface I found a bit clumsy compared to most mobiles. The battery life was also very poor. I got less than 24 hours with 3G disabled, just using GPRS. With 3G the standby dropped to 4 hours (we are in a weak area though). Lastly, it has a 640x480 display - which is great - but it is only used in that resolution by the media player. The web browser renders the pages in 320 x 240 resolution - Why???? I've gone back to using my old SPV C500 which is great as a phone and lousy as a PDA - but I need a phone more often!

acctually if U want 2 know witch of them is better...I PREFER JASJAR...because the LCD is bigger than jasjam and jasjar supports SD memory that U can buy one for your mobile that it is 8 GB :O but jasjam just support MICRO SD memory that it is not contain 8 GB at all...I think the camera of both are simillar some...because you can get a pic with your jasjar with 1600*1200 pixel (JUST LIKE 2 MP) just here is a problem and that is JASJAR IS 2 big BUT JASJAM ISN'T but after all I prefer JASJAR because I bought one in about 6 month ago and it is realy realy realy POWERFUL with full abilithy ;)

The device is absolutey outstanding.P910,p990 or any other pda can't compete with the jasjar's browsing ability.To reap the benefits of this superb piece of kit it is essential to install a good file manager*Resco explorer* also to optimise the memory install memmaid,pocket mechanic,tweaks2k.net etc.To realise the potential of the cpu look for a program called pocket hack.The list of applications available for this ppc is massive-wmobiletorrent,pocketmusic,core player,opera,netfront,minimo....really I could go on forever!

jHNR: If you are choosing between JasJar and Qtek9000, go for the Qtek. The two devices are identical except that the Qtek has a more readable keypad while you would strain your eyes to read the red-on-brown characters on the JasJar keypad. It was for this reason I just bought the Vodafone V1640 after living with the JasJar for 1 year. The Vodafone is the same except that it is silver coloured.

I'll say it again, for the benefit of those considering buying the JasJar: In my view, the greatest flaw with the device is the choice of color of the additional characters on the keypad. It is very hard to see the red characters on a dark brown background. If you love the JasJar, look for another clone of the same device - like the Qtek 9000. These have silver keypad with easy-to-read characters.

i am using GPRS and want to use my jasjar to check my emails at hotmail through Pocket MSN software, the problem i am facing is; if first of all i connect MSN Messenger, later i wont be able to send my emails (having attachments around 100kbs or more). if i signout from my MSN Messenger then i can post my emails "through Hotmail Email option in pocket MSN".(itried to send emails having attachments less then 100kbs and its work ok) but as if i received an email greater then 500-600kbs, always recvd an error message and email attachment not opened. is it only the matter of my GPRS connectivity or speed limits??? or is it a problem with my Jasjar??? even the memory in my jasjar is quite enough empty. I have used the JJ for over a year with a 2Gb SD card. I have only occasional problems with it hanging. I ActiveSync (using MS AS 4.5 beta at the moment) daily Calendar, Contacts & Notes. I suggest that you ensure that you are using a stable and up to date version of ActiveSync (4.2 was also good). Use the same version on every PC you sync' with if you sync with more than one. My problems alwys resolve with a soft reset (next to USB port). Also check how much memory you use with the camera. IMHO the camera button is poorly designed and can be activated accidentally, creating large files which can stall the system as it reaches maximum capacity (saving to an SD card could reduce this risk). Finally despite claims by manufacturers, some software is not compatible with MS Win Mob 5 - I would remove all non-standard software and se if the problems persist.

Hannnnging, Hi, Bought JJ few months back with very few Third Part Programs installed on the memory card, but now a days the software is HANGING very often (while I am working on the phone the screen goes vooosh....blank, it tries activate but no use keep turning on and off)and device does not start after that :( Every time I have to give it to the agent for the software upload. Please can any one advise: 1) if this HANGING problem is very common, and we have to live with that! 2) Also, the Imate agent told me that with exceptions to the contacts I should not Sync. or restore any data (Calendar, E mail etc)as doing this causes the HANGING. Files should be cut / copy and paste (PC to JJ and vice versa) is it true? Any one knows alternative solutions for Sync.? well getting used to it with the time...:).. overall fine experience You cannot see which applications are running (need to go to control Setting-->memory to view/stop/switch) major concern is touch screen. If something goes to it, may turn you off

I am using this device for one month and I can tell you as a phone is very bad (it responds with a big delay even if no application is running). As a PDA it also has some bugs. Hi there, I just bought a jasjar last week, as you all say, the battery life is horrible, has to be plugged in everyday, but that's probably because I'm working on the phone too much as I'm still trying it and puting on software and stuff. Also the WM5 version that came on the phone was really bad and I had to soft reset the phone every couple of minutes, but when I downloaded the upgrade from the website for free, the phone is just fine right now. And about the processor speed, this phone is okay but not as fast as you might think unless you install spb pocket pc plus addon which makes the phone much easier to use and much faster. The camera is just excellent, and it adjusts the exposure in dim lighted areas just fine, it's perfect and it's better than some of the 2.0 megapixel camera phones on the market. Overall, it's a nice pice of hardware in a shitty package and loaded with lousy software, once you fix all that, it's a great PDA. P.S they should cut down the price to half and they shouldn't put this stupid windows mobile on it (symbian UIQ recommended).

I absolutely loved mine but putting it into a damp purse blew the main board and it cannot be repaired at all. Its totally worthless after just 12 months. So if you buy one, keep it in a plastic bag.

Hi Guys, I bought this device a couple of days ago, its wonderfull... I have a question, this might seem obvious to some people but i cannot figure this out. How can i play movies fullscreen. When on Media Player i click Fullscreen it expands the window, but the Video is NOT full screen. I have a small Video Window in the Center and black borders around it. This is my 100% opinion. I swore not to buy a Windows phone again a couple of months back, as i experienced freezing phones, jammed programmes, etc. But again i felt i sould try this JasJar for 1 last hope. After various makes, Nokia, Sonyericsson, i felt empty without a windows phone for the vast progammes and games and apps. So, this machine, flawless! I could not beleive after 2 weeks, no jamups, no soft resets, load earphone speaker, etc. A heavy monster but i can live with it as my partner in hand(as you have to hold it in your hand).Wherever i go it lights uptheir faces and see smiles, a small computer in my palm. I would be the first to critisize this phone if i had the chance but i cantttttttttttt. Hope this is enough to quash a lot of silly roomers. Bye from Malta.

'rsawoseyin' - I can complain about the MDA Pro being bulky if I want to but I would be the first to agree with you that I shouldn't have bought it! The bulk was not a particular problem to me - it's the fact it's a piece of junk that's had to be sent for recycling. Anyone reading this is free to go out and buy a JasJar if they think it's right for them. Perhaps the iMate version is better than the MDA Pro. I can only comment on the Pro version.

I have had the JasJar for 10 months. In that period I have upgraded the ROM twice; I now have the latest ROM software, which is reasonably stable. My greatest annoyance with the phone is that the red letters on the keys are very hard to see. Red letters on a dark brown background are a very, very bad combination. If after buying a phone you complain that it is bulky, then you have yourself to blame. The size or bulkiness of a phone is always obvious and if you didn't like the size, you should never have bought it in the first place!

Very bulky, yet fragile. The screen hinge is flimsy and the USB socket on my version of the phone (T-Mobile MDA Pro) failed after only 6 months. A very poor design in my opinion. I'm probably biased in my dislike of this device but I would certainly not recommend it to anyone! The previous i-Mate phones I've owned have been fine but the JASJAR is a true turkey of a phone.

If you want a great looking PDA with built in phone and wireless etc then this is for you. If you the type of person who is talking on the phone 27/7 then this is not for you . I'm located in Sydney Australia and been using a Jasjar for about a month. I wanted a single unit phone and PDA with a querty keyboard. I'm using the Vodaphone 3G network and Optusnet for internet. Although Voda, who I bought the Jasjar from told me my internet would operate at Broadband speed, I'm yet to see it perform any better than dial-up speed! Any comments on this would be welcome. I've found Active Sync V4.1 to be a hit and miss affair. Sometimes it syncs as soon as I connect the Jasjar to the PC via USB and sometimes it times out before updating any info! Is anyone having this problem? Also, syncing with Microsoft Outlook works with Calendar, Tasks, Files and Favorites but I can't get it to Sync to "Contacts," it remains greyed out during sync selections and settings. Neither Voda, I-mate or Microsoft can tell me why or how to rectify it. I don't believe Jasjar is compatable with "Contacts" in Outlook 2003! Anyone have any comments on this issue? I've spent hours trying to make Active Sync to Outlook work better and more efficiently than it does. Also I find it annoying that you cannot set a "repeat" notification sound for incoming SMS messages. If you miss that single beep you've missed an instant message! I've had to do a Soft Reset on several occasions to make my notification sounds on Calendar appointments work. It seems to stop sounding for no reason and this can cause problems if you are counting on the sound to remind you of an appointment! It's obviously a fault in the unit. Appart from these problems I have to say that as a PDA and Phone with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and the various fileing options and features, the Jasjar is a very neat and well finished unit. I think I'll need to handle the hinged and swivelling screen with due care, and try to avoid turning on the camera everytime I take it out of my shirt pockethold, but appart from these minor setbacks I think I'll continue my love/hate relationship with the mighty Jasjar for the time being. 1. I used first version i-mate Pocket PC for one year (included arabization suite) 2. Many times you had to make softrest 3. Then I bought i-mate Jasjar unfortunately the performance was bad same problems many times hang-sometimes when leave device without any activity you found out after two hours or three that device is hang and ofcourse it did not receive any incoming call 4. All my programs which I have -removed to f find out the problems 5. Now I back to mode PDA2K- windows 2003 se it is perfect all my programs works fine

I've had my JasJar for about 3 weeks now (with the latest ROM) and I must say, it's a lot better than the PDA2K. The only thing I miss is the standard fax capability and ability to allocate the internal memory. But other than that, I've had no real issues. BTW, I have not been able to connect to 3G. Has anyone in the 3G coverage area been able to use this at 3G speed?

I had an i-mate JAM which had its days,time for upgrading now.I liked the fax facility,viz.KSE Truefax 2.0. and mobile windows very much.The only problem I had was using the modem to dial up from my laptop and desktop.Now I need something better,faster and more updated and advanced.Should I consider again an i-mate,which model or should I go for the Nokia N80?Please recommend or any other. Michael: I have had a JASJAR for several months. Check your memory consumption, especially if you have been connecting to the Internet a lot. Clear your history and via the Internet Explorer memory > tools > options > memory. Clear files and history to free memory. Another common problem is accidently recording voice by pressing the record key on the side. It is easy to create files of >10Mb without realising it. And don't forget the images with the camera are quite large. I got around the above by clearing the IE cache regularly & adding a 2Gb SD card.

My JasJar keeps crashing. It's 4 days old and I have to soft reset it regularly. It runs applications very slow and some not at all. I expected a powerful device given the processing capability. It has a very good form factor though and I find it convenient to say the least. If only it did what it was supposed to do. I don't recommend this phone.

Nokia users, stay out of this jasjar. If what you have been using were only normal dumb phones, the jasjar is not for you. It is not for the tech. illiterate. Meaning, it is not for the technologically "dumb" people who only knows how to operate an equally dumb Nokia. Do all yourself a favor stay away from Jasjar as far as you can. In fact run away from it. This device is "THE" "it" in mobile wireless communications. It has got everything. Quality doesnt come cheap so be ready to shell out substantial bucks. But if you are like me who maxed out every functions it got, then you will get your money worth. Those who are complaining about battery are the ones used to using only nokias. The jasjar's battery needs to be conditioned when bought so you can have the maximum battery life. How? in the first 5 charging, never use the supplied adapter. Instead use the USB charger. Never charge if it has 10% or more left to its juice. Charge only when its 10% below or fully depleted. Do this for 5 times and then charge it normally either by the normal charger or usb charger. Update the rom always whenever its available, because this will mean that your jasjar will always be in tiptop shape. Those who are clueless on how to update the rom, consider yourself lucky and stay away from jasjar. Do not install programs unnecessarily. Most programs are not made with WM5 in mind so its not optimized. In other words, it will slow down your jasjar. Get a 4GB SD card and install programs to it. Keep the ROM and RAM in bare minimum, only to be used for ROM updates. For those getting bad GSM reception, if you don't neet UMTS, disable it and set your radio to manual selecting only GSM. This will give you more battery life and better reception. Lastly, visit xda-developers or howardforums to learn from the PPC-PE gurus there. If you are serious about the jasjar, you owe it to learn how to operate it. YOur current knowledge with NOKIA even with the 9500 doesnt count. In my opinion, no phone of Nokia are smart enough, like their users. Over and out....

Hi there I am in Australia and just went to a shop to look at one of these JASJAR - I am looking to make a change to one since I dropped my Treo 600 somewhere I shouldn't have and it has not dried out ! My only question is one of phiscal strenght - the unit I saw in the shop had a very very very wobbly swivel connection between the body and the screen - is that common on all devices or was it perhaps a demo model that did not represent the real unit ? I bought a Dopod 900. it has the same platform as the imate jasjar.the only problem was the battery life.so far I have been using it for months now the most serious problem that I have encounter so far is the phone does hang/crash once in a while. well those who wants skype could download it at skype website. and for those who wants msn/icq/google/yahoo could download agile messenger. overall its a nice phone for daily use =)

well i've had this phone for about 4 months now, i love it. internal memory is lacking however with transcend making 4GB SD cards it is expandable substantially. the touch screen is responsive, the colors are crisp and the resolution (VGA 640X480) is beautiful. This phone has one drawback, it is a triband phone designed for europe. so reception with Cingular is lacking (no 850 mhz band/ which Cingular coverage is primarily). also the UMTS isnt suported by Cingular as it uses a global 2100 band and Cingular built on AT&T's 1900 so high speed internet won't be usuable with cingular. However if you are a T-Mobile customer, then i recommend this as T-Mobile uses the 1900 frequency primarily. also July 2006 T-Mobile will be bidding on the UMTS 2100 Mhz band which this phone supports) also this phone comes with Skype VIOP software built in, and a virus scanner provided by I-Mate.

the O2 XDA Exec/JASJAR is not for pda/phone illerates. There is a huge learning curve with this phone especially if your in the USA and not using company the phone was designed for. 1. Win Mobile 5 is not like Win XP, you have to learn how to config and optimize it. Its like that on all PDA's. 2. You will need to learn how to update the ROMs and Win Mobile. If you're not a tech/computer geek this can become overwhelming with all the various roms and updates. These updates fix issues with the phones which most people complain about. 3. Again don't think you can use any pda right out of the box on any service without doing an UPDATE! you're going to have problems regardless. 4. in comparsion to the Treo, Sidekick, the MDA, the phone is just about the same size. It's thinner than all and about .3-.5 inches longer. which is really nothing. 5. it's an expensive device, so don't run out an get it just because it has Win Mobile 5 realisticly have a use for it. Everyone wants features on a phone but usually rarely do they use them. I had the motorola v3 razr and those the video recorder was cool, but honestly i used it probably 2-3times in the entire year that i had it. Again you will have to LEARN how to use a new operating system and learn how to update your ROM regularly. If you want a stable device you have to do that, I've had to update ROMs on all my phones to get rid of minor glitches. No device is 100% perfect.

I have been using my jasjar since october when they came out. I power it via a usb cable attached to my cigarette lighter in the car, or by connecting the usb cable to any running pc (it wont sync without active sync naturally). its been a long time ive decided to buy a pda and the jasjar was my choice. as i read more and more reviews it seems that jasjar is an extremely good tool for someone who is related with IT, where he can connect to different servers etc. for me, a single user of a pda will it be ok? or will i get lost in the many features it has? btw can the phone get charged through a usb cable? like ipods? beacause the short duration of the battery is a a bit frightening

Anyone who ever gave a rave review... shame on you. Actuall it was really nice (except for anoying popup messages from windows 5.0)(except you cannot use it and drive). In the two days I owned it, it did lock up three times. I had to remove the battery to reboot. Never figured out GPRS settings. Lots of good things though. I didn't mind the size or weight after a day. I liked the new outlook. Many good things but overall... I had to return it.

I have just recently purchased The JAMJAR on orange UK ( Also called SPV M5000)I am having problems connecting to the Pocket MSN. Its connecting to "Orange GPRS internet" but then comes up with an error message, saying "login failed because service is not responding". Any ideas on how i can correct this? Thanks

If you have snychronization problems it is from the new Windows 5. You need to turn off any Anti-Virus programs that you may have running or spyware programs. Make sure they are off and exited from them then plug in to try and sunchronize. That should solve the problem. Also this scree is a VGA screen for the person who asked about Video Clip quality. It should be VGA Quality which is one of the best for the PDA's on the market today. Dell uses it on their AXIM, HP on the IPAQ 4700 and Imate on this model. Acer just released a new 300 Model that uses this VGA screen as well but the proessing power is a bit weak. They should have out in a faster processor. I am getting the new Dell and will stick to using my phone for phone calls which is much better any ways for call clarity and fewer dropped calls.

Hi There, I own a JASJAR, since September 2005 and bought it for my on the road IT services and I have to say it's a great device. I use the JASJAR, to access different kind of servers, e.g. Citrix, Terminal Services, SSH Linux, AS400, VNC, Telnet, Network Browser to mount shares locally on the JASJAR and printing to network printer on the network. All these services works great when I'm connected at work to the corporate wi-fi network, but I have a challenge with the VPN connection on the JASJAR on a public wi-fi hotspot. For instance every time I tried to connect to the Citrix server at work using the VPN connection it drops the connection immediately and start connecting through GPRS. I don't know why, I tried many different options, but couldn't solve it. Any help would be great.

This jasjar is great! Have had it for 3 months and don't need to take a notebook with me anymore! I work in IT support and with Term services, vpn's, citrix client, etc plus Vodafones 3g , it's as if I'm at the customers site. It's never let me down - sync, etc is fine. Wireless is great. Took me a bit of time to work out best settings, etc and how it works to get most from it. - Downloaded Netfront browser, and Operas new browser. I can easily have multiple browser windows open on this, plus other stuff just like a PC. While travelling and flying, doing my invoicing, watch DVD's I've copied to sd card, etc. And keyboard is excellent. With bluetooth headset/LCD can make and get calls without toucjhing teh jasjar. All in all- can't ask for much more than that. My IBM thinlpad now stays on the kitchen table at home...

I see a lot of people are discontent with their jasjars. First of all let me tell you that this phone WAS NOT designed for people who just want to make a call to there friend and talk for a couple of hours. I have owned this phone for almost 5 months now and I recently switched to the Motorola A780. For a smartphone the jasjar does its thing. The best features being WIFI. I have routed my IMAP AOL mail and pop3 yahoo to this phone. It works like a charm. The battery life isn't the greatest. But thats the sacrafice you make to have a phone that does so much. I have this on a cingular plan. I did one of those 9.99 add a lines and added unlimited data. It's a great second phone but not a primary. The reason why I switched to the a780 was because I realized I didn't use all the features of the phone. My needs were just a phone that does imap, pop3 and a basic pda functions. I never really used the wifi cause I would rather use my laptop.

It is not a mobile phone it is a good land line phone, because the battery takes a good 4 hours to charge and it lasts only for a maximum of 6 hours irf you seldom use the phone. If you use it a bit more then 4hours is already very good. We have to carry the charger wherever we go and we have to look for a plug contact that is why I call it a good land line phone.

Hi Guys And Girls of The Imate Jasjar. I used to have the Psion 5mx,it was a good machine till the screen packed up.Cracked by accidental knock on the tube in London.I bought a Compaq Ipaq 3870,fast and good machine,accept for the connector for the cable and cradle is poor design for charging. Mine worn out after a year of use and had to back up every time I install info onto it. Then my friend in Saudi Arabia introduced me to the Jornada 720,she even did MSN chat on it,got the setings from the supplier. I always used Pda's for my work,I'm a teacher of technology and ITC.I used the the Jornada 720 with it's nice keyboard,but when I went on contract with O2,the J720 feels like 'n brick in my hand.I bought a 2gig sd card and when I install an application or .exe file,I install it on the sd card and not the main memory.Even the wireless connection on the Jasjar is great to the school's website and I can even use it to access the video projector's system to controle the settings on it.No more SVGA card and cable to my Jornada to give Power point presentaions!!! Only my Bible(Bible reader from Olive Tree.com )is on the main memorie becuase it is faster on searching. I also have the fax software(KSE TRUEFAX) from the Kjam installed onto it,I tried it to send a fax to my own house fax,it works great,then I did the big one!!!Send a fax to my friend in South Africa,he receive it even faster than a fax from a normal machine connected to a landline!!!I installed the fax software on the Jornada 720 and also send a fax to my friend. GPRS??? I'm weak on that subject and use the network at school for quick email check. One application that I need for the Jasjar is Pocket Access that I use everyday on the Jornada 720.If the Jornada had the same specs of the IMATE JASJAR,I think I would never have the Imate on contract,and will still use my Nokia 6310i. I must say that the Jasar never let me down in any occasion where I have to use it.I can only speak possitively about this machine. Like any pda,it lacks a descent calculator,I download a engineering calculator from a website for PPC's.I use Pocket Streets 2005, Skype to contact my friends and family in South Africa,download Mort Media player,better than the supplied one on jasjar,and then finally the SPB GPRS Monitor I download from Bt's website. Then the BEST EVER pocket reader I used before is the Mobi Pocket Reader,it synch so fast with Active Synch 4 and never had a problem with Active Synch 4. Camera??? If all you guys and girls complain about the camera's pixcels,why don't you rather go and buy a digital camera,and the phone complainers,rather buy a cheap phone that suits your needs. I use a PDA in full potential that it's made for,do not complain about it and get around the lack of the factory built.I only want to know one more program of the Jasjar to use it in full,but by the end of February,I will be able to do it. Upgrade on the one's that bothers me and never be negative to the people who design and built it.If you all complainers just keep in mind,it takes more than just a descision to built a PDA and combine it with a phone to get what you want. okay i purchased one of these 2 weeks ago. for $1,000 us dollars. Pros If your a pda person this is and as long as you have a blue tooth ear piece your fine.It's bulky but that helps because the sreen is nice. ALMOst like a mini laptop to me.The 3g network for us users cingular and tmobile testing it out now.Is very nice and very fast. cons, wifi works ,but not great.signal is low in spots that is stronger for other phones. alot ,alot ,alot of bugs due to microsoft windows mobile. freezes up a lot overall its a nice design pda not meant for people who really wanted a small cell phone look cause of its size. I got rid of mines in 2 weeks.The price of it for all the bugs is just not worth it.If ther gonna charge that much it should be 110% ready to go.

I had the i-mate JasJar for almost one month. Prior to that I had the original i-mate PDA/phone. So far the good things about the JasJar is that it has a great screen and alot of functions. However, I find the the reception of the phone is average (I don't have reception in areas where others get good reception). In addition menu navigation sometimes can be very slow. The battery is not the best either .. I don't know if these are due to problems with my "own device" or its a problem in the JasJar itself. I wonder if there is GSM booster to improve the poor reception. Overall, its an average device considering its price.

The JasJar experience in Aruba. I consider my self a high-end and very demanding mobile user. Also known as a road warrior. My buying cycle of a new mobile device is once a year in the month of December. I always start doing my research and comparisons on features/specs of brands and models 3 months before. For the last 3 years I had my focused on the Sony Ericssons P series smartphones. Because their functionalities always met my requirements. I owned all of them from the 800 to 910 and I must say they all really served me very well. This year my requirements increased much more and got more demanding especially for my next year's projects, that I was even considering in just buying a PC laptop and keep my SE P910i and combine the best of both worlds. But I wasn't happy with the idea at all, since I will need to get used to the extra equipment and weight. Well in early September I read the announcement of the i-mate JasJar and couldn't believe it, it is exactly the type of device I need!! Powerful enough to get all my things done without the need of the additional PC laptop. So I placed the order immediately together with a Jabber 800T BT headset, 2Gb SD card and the Piel Frama executive carrying case that has compartments for 2 SD cards, 2 credit cards and a money holder, which now also replaced my wallet. One less thing to carry around. My experience with the JasJar.... It's a master piece of a device, the screen is very nice and sharp. the keyboard is a blessing, typing of emails and text messages is so easy. On my 8 hours flight to Europe - Holland I could work on all my reports in mobile word and excel and listen to my mp3s and watched some video clips just like on a regular PC laptop. Wi-fi worked without problem on all the hot-spots in Aruba and Holland and I also tried UMTS it works great and was very fast, Video phone also did very well no complains. I didn't take my digital camera this time, since 1.3 mega pixel works for me. Internet experience is good with pocket IE, but can be much better with a more advanced browser like opera. As a phone I must say without a BT headset with caller id the JasJar is useless, since it doesn't has an external display to show who is calling without opening it and it looks so big and foolish at your face during conversation. Besides those short comings it's a full fledge cell phone just like any other high-end one. Overall performance is acceptable. I like the flash rom approach, because after landing in Holland the batteries got fully drained and I didn't loose my data. Windows Mobile 5 looks very stable to me, I didn't experienced any crash yet. For desktop connectivity I use pocketMac Pro to synch between my Macintosh and the JasJar, no problems there. I must say the JasJar is not for everybody, it is especially made for demanding mobile user that needs more pc functionalities in a mobile device and sacrifice portability of a common cell phone. So please don't complain on it's size and weight if you are looking for just a razor thin cell from motorola. Anyways for now the JasJar will keep me busy on the road till the end of next year again when I'm ready to seek for his replacement. Sunny regards from Aruba.

Go to the JasJar forums, and you will understand why, after reading everyone's comments on company support! On the other hand, if you want a USABLE, REAL phone, do NOT buy anything with other than Symbian Phone (Like SonyErricson P910i).

OK. I am not sure how great this is for the Cingular network as it is using 850 rather than 1900. This PDA/Phone doesn't support 850 as far as I know. Please correct me if I am wrong. I always had problem with the 1900 phones on the 850 Cingular network. BTW, I just got a HP 6515 and it is probably one of the better PDA/Phone I have used in a long while. Cheers to all!!!

In brief - I like it . . . A lot!! In depth - over 3 years ago I bought the Orange-branded i-mate smartphone, and was somewhat disappointed in it (battery life, screen size when using the apps, weight, bulk) but I stuck with it for a long time as it was the best of it's kind back then. Then I moved on to the first i-mate PDA (again Orange branded). This was a huge improvement, but still not all I had hoped it would be. Later models didn't offer a great deal more so I stuck with the PDA. Then came the JASJAR. I got one on the 1st of November, and it's as much of an advance as the smartphone was over my first phone (So basic it hurts to remember it!). The weight is about as far as I would like to go with a phone, but with a bluetooth earpiece that's no biggy. The VGA screen is superb, any higher resolution and you'd need a magnifying glass to read anything, and the colour depth is absolutely right. It's not a laptop, it's a PDA with enough screen to do your stuff while away from your PC. Having said that it would be nice if the screen were physically larger, but then the device would have to be bigger too since the screen's height is as close to the edge as possible already. The lack of a cradle is a good thing because I can now carry the less bulky USB sync/charge cable to plug into anyone's spare USB port if I need to charge the battery, although a full charge is more than enough for a day's PDA usage (however, use the Wi-Fi and it drains power much faster). The inclusion of a spare battery and a car charger in the box would have been nice. The keyboard is the biggest I've seen on any kind of phone. I dismissed the Blackberry immediately from my shopping list purely on the (de-)merits of the keyboard. I like the fact that I don't need to hold the shift key to type capitals, just tap it and only the next letter is upper case. Same for the Function key. The camera is the same resolution as my first digital camera, which I still use as it's good enough for 'happy snaps'. If you want a massive pixel count you're also going to want optical zoom, wide angle, extreme close-up, etc, etc, in order to do the thing justice. I HATE the lack of a lens cover however!! This is unpardonable in my view. Audio: Ringtones aren't as loud as I would like, but the volume whilst in a call is very good. The stereo speakers are tinny, as you would expect from something that small, but they are excelent when used as a speakerphone. Did I say stereo? Well yes, inasmuch as there are two of them. I haven't unpacked the headphones yet, so can't comment on their quality, but if they're as good as the original PDA then they'll do nicely, thankyou. I used MSN messenger on the original PDA a great deal to chat to various members of my family living abroad so it's absence is a pity, but I understand that it can be purchased from Microsoft, so no biggy there either. Video calls are, in my opinion, a gimmick. I've seen it in action and am not overly excited at the prospect of seeing a tiny, jerky image, or the break-up of the audio; especialy when both parties talk at the same time. This is a generic comment, as I haven't used the JASJAR in this way. Wi-Fi is amazing. I have a wireless router at home, and allthough in a race there was a noticeable difference between the JASJAR and my laptop, the improvement over GPRS download times is remarkable so the addition of Wi-Fi is well worth the power drain it incurrs. Summary: The JASJAR excels at what it does, and as such I'm extremely happy with it. Except for that missing lens cover!!!!!

The rest of my message seemes to have been chopped off. The battery life is average to poor if the backlight is on for all uses. Yes it is only 64 Mb memory. A 2Gb SD card helps that. No, that is not a good way to start fresh with your phone, XP, uses different data basics than the mobile Windows. To others that are interested in buying this phone, think it over, this phone is kind of heavy, I prefer a BenQ P50, basically the same exact thing but different Windows Base, yes the same thing, Intel Bulverde!

Hello fellow techs and gadget people.Just wanted you to know how well or bad the Imate jasjar,qtek9000,mda pro iv has done .Its been over a two months of hard intensive use in the USA.Cant believe this thing,construction,reliability,functions to use by choice such as the wireless manager are beyond great!.Ofcourse their can always be improvements as technology increases. Overall the imate jasjar has done 9+ in all areas, especially the keyboard and software @5.0 with no problems at all.I use the imate jasjar for college note taking along with everything else.I own two notebook laptops and will shortly sell one. Remember to get yourself a carry pouch from PDA accessories for safe belt wearing and it does look great.Other than pricing, which I know will be at around $ 899.00 by april of 2006, since you can currently purchase one as I did for $1,000.00 new. It would be nice if Qtek 9000 ,imate jasjar or O2 xda execu will include features like 6mp camera , video recording at 30 frames per second & a screen with 16 million colour like Xcute dv2 with there current other specification in their advance version . And it should increase its processor speed 520 to 640 just like HP & Dell PDA & increse it memory to 128mb . And it should include inbuilt GPS receiver also like Mitac A700 . Then it will be the best Pda ever no other brand can compete with it . It will be a complete PDA with all features and specification .

Anyone know what is teh difference between this O2 XDA and the Qtec9000, I-mate jasjar ???? I think all are same except those brand name . If any one of these model provide 5mp camera justlike samsung P860 & inbuilt GPS receiver like Mitac A700 along with current features or specifications . It looks like a great fone. Im actually picking one up tomorrow. I have been loyal to the i-mate brand, inspite of their lack of after sales. The screen of my PDA2K got broken since Feb, 2005.They are yet to get it fixed. I hope this JASJAR would be different, because it looks AWESOME but pope its not WORRISOME. Good, however, kinda slow, battery life is not that much. Still a problem to be sending SMS while driving. More, and i hope I-Mate can take me seriously regarding my request - there are no means to send the Business Card of a contact thru SMS? All I-mates let u send business cards thru only bluetooth.With Nokia u can send thru SMS, MMS, BlueTooth, etc.

Just a quick confirmation from the people that have already bought this network-indpendant. The specs on gsmarena list this phone has having only 64mb of internal ram. Well is this a mistake? because the pda2k/mda3/xda2s/m5000 had 128mb and it would be ludicrous to decrease the specification on a new phone. They still dont allow you to set mp3s etc as ringtones? the imate jam had a patch for it, but no such patch appeared for it's bigger brothers. Good quality .wav files are massive in size compared to mp3. This was set to be my next phone, but having read some reviews i'm inclined to plump for something a bit more flexible. i mean not being able to charge and sync the thing at the same time? the previous version again had this facility, whats with the backwards regression all of a sudden? Could have been something much more by the sounds of things.

I've had my JASJAR a few days now. Also purchased from expansys (Australia). Well constructed, very stable, but two issues - ActiveSync 4.0 is very temperamental and needs a lot of effort to get it to sync compared to my previous iPAQ with ActiveSync 3.8. The design of the USB connection being both power and data connection but not designing a cradle to supply both at once is a conciderable disadvantge.

I originally had the Qtek 9000 on pre-order at Expansys. Then they called me to say that the JasJar were going to be on sale much earlier, so I said why not, since they are functionally indentical. I have been using it for two days and it has been essentially bug-free...I love it so far. It does everything. The price is about the only thing that would most people away from it though. *posted via JasJar :)*

i've had I-mate PDA2K earlier, but i sold it because it has lots of bugs and deficiencies...As i've read before, there's a little bit of support from i-mate, if none... i don't know how well is JASJAR compared to the PDA2K, but i still think this one has lots of bugs also... Got one a couple of days ago. Remarkably bug free for a new product. Screen flip hinge seems pretty secure. Very heavy for a phone/pda at nearly 300grams, but feels very solidly built. Comes bundled with Skype which works well. Speakers are a bit tinny, and speakerphone feature is a joke unless you are in a really quiet room. 1.3 MB Camera quality is better than most I have tried in other phones/pda's. Keyboard tactile response is good and if you are a 2 finger typist and you can operate virtually all features without needing the stylus. Signal quality of GSM 1800 is poor compared with my normal phone. Tends to drop phone signal for a a while while wifi connects. Phone Ringer volume is way to quiet, even on maximum loudness as it can only play wav files. Conspicuous absence of any data backup utility. Bundled with a pre-release version of ActiveSync 4.0 (which is requires) which does not support network syncronisation.

hey According to the specifications it seems like a gr8 PDA. I had the PDA I-mate II for 8 month then i sold it and got the Nokia 9500... Nokia is gr8 and all but a little slow... The JASJAR has a faster processor and larger memory + it combines a touch screen and a full keyboard (2 in one )... So i am thinking of selling my Communicator 9500 and getting the New I-Mate JASJAR. I hate to be the spoil-sport but the reality is HTC is the manufacturer of this phone and you better wait to purchase it. HTC has a tendency to ship phones before all of the bugs are worked out and leave customers hanging. How many people remember waiting for months to receive rom updates for HTC blue angels (siemans sx66, o2 pda, audiovox etc)? When the updates did arrive, some of the problems still persist. Do not expect any customer support on these phones. As a Cingular subscriber with an SX 66 made by the same company, I went through 2 of these phones and months of hassles. Also had 4 different Motorola MPX220s--all are recalled from dealers shelves but the customers cannot get returns. I now have Audivox SMT 5600 made by HTC (sent by Cingular since the MPX220 is recalled)--the toggle function is almost non-functional and I cannot access internet or email functions--overall it is a $300.00 dollar gizmo that doesn't work. Again, HTC ships products before the bugs are worked out and since they are Microsofts leading agent for this platform the HTC brand is marketed under several different brand names but they do not support their products. I would consider this type of purchase very carefully and wait to see what defects they send with this phone. Buyer beware!

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I have given up on PDA phones (compared to phones which have PDA functions). First - i-mate support is non-existent. They did not offer WM 5 upgrade for present models such as i-mate JAM. Second - sound quality during calls sound very "tinny". Third - reception - not stable. I used to have this type of gadget, but not anymore.

All they need to make sure that this device is perfect now is to make sure it gets a CCD sensor for the camera, 262K screen, and Edge support as well as 3G when it hits the market.

I like the i-mate JasJar a lot. If you are the on the go professional, than this device is for you. Something that motorola should have been thought of but i-mate did it first. For me it is my two-way, email, phone, camera, and much more. It is the 21st century semi-perfect phone. Just love the design
