Actually this was a great phone and could have run flawlessly for long time.......if you keep it at its original OS (Android 4.4). The subsequent updates killed this phone. My advise is do not ever update your phone. So far I have owned Meizu M1 Note, MX4, M6s and M6 Note. All of them were great until I updated the software.

phone gets REALLY REALLY HOT after you use it for sometime , especially if you use it outdoor. battery life is not so good. i used the phone for two and half years, after that battery life is no more unless u keep it on charge for 24/7. love the photo quality of back camera. front camera is bad.

I have got this model over 2 years. Two years was relatively ok. Few month ago baterry had colapsed. After changing it according to youtube video instruction it seemed to be ok. Then I upgraded Flyme OS to higher version. Terrible user friendly environment! You cannot downgrade smartly! At the end part of display stopped to functioning. I dont count International support from Meizu as it is only in chinese! No Meizu anymore!

This phone is awesome. I have z ultra, samsung note 3, and i think this phone is the easiest to use because of the thin bezel and light weight yet with big screen. Need some tinkering to prolong battery life: turn off auto sync, use 3g if 4g signal not strong, uninstall 3rd party keyboards, use greenify& ccleaner... really love this phone, beautiful screen!

for your information and any MX4 users out there, the best version is Flyme 4.0.4I..the newer version got some serious ram management problem. i tried many flyme version, ranged from 4.2.8.2 to 6.x, all has ram problem when you started to use camera and record 4k video, the ram will stay 75% occupied until you restart the phone. so the best solution is to use the old flyme because meizu will NEVER fix the problem. solution is: 1) downgrade to Flyme 4.0.4I(International)(kitkat) 2) buy newer phone but i always prefer number 1. all app i am using right now has no problem with kitkat. link download: how to downgrade: just copy update.zip to root directory and turn off the phone. go to recovery by pressing volume up + power button. tick both options in recovery and proceed. always backup first.

Not even the latest Meizu models could compete with MX4, in my opinions. I tried many branded smartphones, still Meizu MX4 is my choice.

The screen to body ratio is amazing. The screen is wide, and the navigation button is outside the screen. Even today only much bigger phone can get such a wide screen. I don't understand why other manufacturers do not make screens with such ratio.

front camera is ok, clarity is very good, dynamic range is good, its fix focus is good, photo clear all the way, and even better you can do manual mode on front camera, setting up shutter speed, iso,etc. way better than many midrange phone with 5mp front cam. the only drawback is low light quality......................same as rear camera..i guess that is the limit of the old camera sensor..

for those who has this phone..stay on kitkat..dont upgrade it to lollipop..flyme 4/5/6 lollipop eating too much ram,multitasking is impossible, i tried them all. now i am sticking with the final kitkat version flyme 4.2. 8.2I, multitasking is flawless. either stick to kitkat or buy a newer phone.

i was waiting for this phone to arrive, so what is your impression for this phone? i bought it online because it was deadly cheap right now (32gb ver.) and i am planning to give my current zenfone 2 laser to my brother after this phone arrive. the newer meizu m5 price is slightly higher than the old mx4 but i decided to go with the old mx4 because it uses sony sensor for the camera. i guess MTK6595 will perform better than SD410 inside zenfone 2 laser.

Been using this since 2014 and still im satisfied with it overall. Especially with the flyme 5.1.9G the camera getting better with software upgrade. worth the money i spent for it and still no reason for me to migrate to a new phone while this cute mx4 still running excellently. there's "rumour" that it will get android 7 also in flyme 6 soon.

Here are all Firmwares for Meizu MX4 - You can download any Firmware you want : 1. Just download a firmware after finishing download, just connect phone to Mac / Pc, and put the downloaded firmware " Update.zip " in root of phone, 2. Go to File Explorer > All Files > Update.zip > Upgrade Or another way is, Shut down phone > Press volume UP + Power Button and release after you see Firmware and check Wipe data, Clear, That's it. If you can't download from Google Play, just delete Acoount from Settings and login again. Good luck !

Hey! My main problem is the google play service error, the one that does not let me to register to any google account and does not let me to run any app related to google. I really need help, I did a factory data reset but still not working. Where can I download the last firmware? And do I need to download and then install? (I guess so). Hi.. have been using mx4 for almost a year now. It is a great phone except for heating easily when playing videos or games. few times when phone suddenly off due to overheat. Now using bumper type case to ensure the heat released faster. Another thing found out that i cant use search function(google, bing,etc) in stock browser when use 3g. Same when use chrome. Whatsapp, facebook can be used fine. No issue when use wifi.

It is my 2nd week of using this buggy set ,it is completely a vain starting with CAMERA … what a sh_t, its not 20.7mp absolutly blurry and hazzy pictures with zero optical stablaization a very little movement in object or in phone make a risult of China class photos, so sad i am used to make photo of text as photocopy, with this set i lost that possibility. Now come to DISPLAY………Black color look a dark shade of red just imagine an old newspaper, believe me in Whatsup contacts the immagies with name are pixaly! PROCESSOR……… niether of its core is 2.2 Ghz. It is Just ranging from 428mhz —1.6Ghz if you don't believe just install any aap about hardware info and see the clocking. BATTERY……… DOn't see the mAh number .when the phone is loaded with some aaps it start draining battrey like a real Chaina set. Do not watch videos where the set is just landed out from the box and have only OS in its memory nothing else. With very simple and necessary aaps battery drop 1% in 4-5 min. BACK AND AAP SETTING BUTTON. Many Android aap have obbligation to use back button ← and setting buttons of set which this set don't have. So many time you have only one option to use i.e Home button thus the aap or page what ever it is disappear and have to restart the process. DISPLAY GLASS… became oily leaving signs on it. Same thing is with camera covering glass but pics are not clear even you clean it. ONLY ONE THING IS IMPRESSIVE THAT IS GPS .

I've bought it when it was release. I love it so much because : tiny screen boarders, very nice sound in headphones, can play .flac, performance was always enough until many programs were launched. The music player issue was fixed with Flyme update. THIS PHONE CAN RECORD VIDEO in 60 FPS. I've caught a bug when filming drifting videos when suddenly it started to record not 30 but 58 fps. This happened twice. The video of fast moving cars was just amazing. This functionality is blocked by software 100%.

I'm using mx4 now, since two months ago and I'm loving it. It is a good phone with middle price range, fast processor, back camera can focus well under light exposure. There is only one bad thing about this is the front camera, which is too poor, the resolution is really really bad. Back camera can function well, but just that it cannot really capture fast moving things. So far still enjoy using this phone,hopefully won't let me disappoint.

Sadly - the MX4 still doesn't have a good, stable, and well-fitted OS update to 5.0.1 - the phone still sports the 4.5.7 version (5.0.1 Lollipop), which sucks in its weird Google play apps crashes - if you don't reinstall the apps many will crash when launched. The camera was also downgraded - sadly, and both the CPU and GPU are now at a lower clock - it seems at least (regarding GPU) - the CPU maxes @2Ghz - and usually goes to 1.7Ghz~, which annoys me - as it cuts off the potential the chipset on this phone has. Just to let yall know.

The custom beast built inside this device had push MX4 to the highest ranking. (Refer to GSM Arena Benchmarking) and it Value for Money. For those Geeky, custom Rom lover, this would be the most challenging device which the bootloader was locked and Meizu refused to reveal for Unlocking Purposes. Recommended for user with normal day to day usage. Compliance issue to sync with Corporate Exchange Server still not resolve. Hope Meizu have this fix in their next Flyme version.

Hey meizu thanks for the lollipop update it resolves the battery heat issue and freeze issue. You also put it back the personalization/themes that i used to love to. Now has so many choices on lollipop themes , i love more my MX4. Waiting for the next update for 5.1 , 5.2 or Android Marshmallows.

This phone looks promising at first... :( But after using it for a few months, It's a piece of good hardware running very immature software full of bugs!!!! The most important feature of the phone which is viewing contacts and making calls usually does not work. Either contacts appears empty or it simply does not search in contacts and returns an empty screen. to make a phone call I need to sometimes restart the phone, and it still takes around a minute to load the profiles. started having this problem as number of contacts reaches 1500+ contacts, and it definitely looks like bad product and very bad quality assurance. Unstable, Immature, and makes no sense to use this phone unless you want it as an internet device or you make phone calls using Skype or WhatsApp Verdict: Stay way!!!!....

I suggest you zenfone 2. Because it's have 4gb ram than meizu mx4 that have 2gb ram only. The battery of zenfone 2 is long enough. I watching youtube for almost 5 hours start from 100% battery non-stop. I play heavy game like modern combat 5 for almost 4 hours. Trust me. Asus was improve the battery life and performance this time for zenfone 2.

the silicon case is a great combination with this phone. also, the tempered glass for MX4 will add protection to your screen. save my screen twice already.

fellow MX4 User, if you havent tried the super mode option, you must try it. if you need to save battery, this is the best way to do it. you can only use call and text message in this setting. battery will run 3 to 4 days on full charge.

I bought one of these last December after my trusty Desire HD died. The phone is good looking and had some promising specs and features, but then the disappointments started: All SMS threads displayed a warning triangle in Handcent, which I could never make go away and I found Flyme less intuitive and functional than vanilla Android, so installed Nova. Language support is minimal aside from EN-US and Chinese (No UK English and no Norwegian, which are the two languages I use). After other Androids which are easily root-able and moddable, the Meizu was disappointing, with a builtin halfway "root" but no real tools or ROMS for any real customisation, which is needed to get rid of all the Chinese bloatware. Then the problems started with the home button, which stopped working. As this is the only way to get back to the home screen from within most apps, this meant a reboot every time I needed to see it. despite this being a known hardware issue (see various forums) Meizu claimed that this was a software issue and that an upgrade would fix it... Multiple upgrades, with X- upgrades to the universal "A" version of the software as the "I" international version was lagging behind didn't fix the problem, but left me with even more Chinese bloatware and no way back to the "I" version. I finally sent the phone back, through my dealer. Two months later, still no phone. Meizu are now claiming that the malfunction is due to a scratch on the back cover, which I know did not cause trauma to the phone as I was there when it happened. The verdict: Nice design and nice hardware in parts, but unreliable and appallingly bad service from Meizu. Steer clear!

Well,I've never actually been a maizu enthusiast,though,I'd say that the mx4 was good for its price,but it was definitely no LG G3 or like the Galaxy S5 ,all of which were flagships of 2014.....Nevertheless,the rumoured Bezel-less. Im an android developer (Root Call Blocker, Undeleter, etc). I have a lot of phones myself and we have lots more in the office. This is not my first chinese device. But it is the best so far. Using the phone with 4G and wifi always enabled, walking from home to office i can get two days out of the battery with light use. The display is excellent, though a little dim. Also automatic brightness control is slow and mostly unhelpful. Flyme OS could use some work - why on earth is there no settings shortcut in the taskbar? Also, why remove the ability to set custom launchers from the latest versions of Flyme? It makes no sense. Lets hope some of these certainly the settings shortcut) will be addressed in the upcoming 5.0 update. There need to be configurable capacitive keys either side of the circle key, like the Numbian line from ZTE. 4/5 stars.

@John, I have both and they are equally good. Although I would be inclined to buy the Meizu MX4 over the Zenfone 2(highest specs variant) if you only had 1 choice. The phone has a very good battery life. The speaker is loud but the sound reproduction is excellent (with or without headphones). The device looks and feels premium and it will handle virtually anything you throw at it.

i have been using my samsung galaxy mega for quite a long time. I was really searching for something new; look/build and os and viola! I found Meizu MX4. Its totally awesome. Although i thought of buying an Iphone 5, but when I knew MX4 was a little bit cheaper, I opted to get one as soon as i got my salary. It's pretty cool. So Cool! Camera is superb. Battery is good. hi tyqa the update seems unsuccessful. U perhaps disrupted the updating process or should i say its the wifi connection that was disrupted eitherway. For now, U need to send unit to store for service. Mine was successful in updting in latest flyme 4.2.2 but plenty of bugs because my phone keeps freezing keeps restarting evry seconds (wanting my phone throwing) but i keep in my that these issues is somewhat knew by meizu or in beta status. Meizu is a great phone regarding design, materials used,and hardware. Flyme is overall easy to use when you get used to it, and it is very simplified, but yet very user friendly for multitasking. Smart touch is a great help when you switch between apps. However there are few necessary improvements. First, speed dial is a must for such a large screen. Settings could use some more options. App drawer is left out, like in Apple phones, but I personally like it and find it too crowded on the homescreen. Of course, solution is to simply put all necessary apps in one folder. Camera is great and gives very cool photos. Screen is beautiful, and very easy to use even in very bright sunlight. Density and resolution are great and 2k resolution would be waste of time and battery. Speaking of battery, it is 2 days normal use easy. I had some weather widget, and found out that it actuallu drained my battery by being connected to gps even with location turned off. When I removed it, battery is really durable, even with constantly having wifi turned. With heavy use, you can expect day and a half. To summarize, great phone with some minor improvements needed on Flyme. Otherwise, we have a real contender in top class. Its bigger brother, MX Pro has some better features, but it is also too big, too demanding screen which is unnecessary.

I used MX4(white color) for 2 months and IMO, the back cover is extremely slippery without casing. The paint will not peel off easily but yes, it does easily get scratches, I got few, but not obvious. fingerprint also easily "stick" on the back cover. still, I dont really mind these problems cause its performance is superb! Hey. I just got the Meizu Mx4 and I have to say that I love the phone. The only thing that really bothers me is that sometimes my Music Player crashes. I click to play a song, it plays it for a few seconds and then it stops responding. Does anyone know what this could be about? In my own opinion, the mx4 and the mx4 pro are practically the same with the exception of the pro has a fingerprint sensor, 5mp front camera, samsung soc, and 2k display. but I would rather pick the mx4 than the pro because theres not much difference, and the mx4 is slightly faster than the pro. Unless Meizu isn't updating the firmware on the showroom phones in their stores the brightness problem is still there on both the MX4 and Pro. Pushed all the way to 100% the brightness is great, but setting it anything lower and it gets dim fast. IMO, both phones are good so it's a matter of your budget. If you can spare the extra cash I'd say go for the pro... the little extra stuff it has (scanner, 1GB RAM more, QHD, Audio chip, Sapphire glass on the rear camera,NFC 5mp on front and bit more battery worth the money. by no means standard MX4 is bad. I'm using this phone for over a month now and I can tell you, that you can enjoy all games in high details without any lag. It has NO NFC. The pro version has NFC but this one doesn't, and I don't know why people keep thinking it has. The screen is awesome and you can easily see it everywhere even in sunlight.I don't know if the other friend posted about the brightness has a prob on his phone but I usually keep it around 50% all day unless I'm outdoors where the sun hits the phone directly. The thing that I found is that the auto mode of brightness doesn't work that well but I think this will be solved with a new Flyme update... they make lots of them so don't worry. With MX4 you will get only a charger and a usb cable.. no headphones so you have to buy them. In my opinion buy good ones cuz the quality of the sound is really good and you will enjoy it only with good headphones. If I can suggest any, that would be Xiaomi Pistons 2... for their price (like 10 euros) they have excellent quality. Viber works without any problems.

You might be disappointed with the screen brightness set anything below 95%. It's a software problem but when you drop the screen brightness down it goes dim fast. Even set at 80% it looks like less than 40%. That's why in the review they couldn't even give numbers for 50% brightness. It really kills the experience. Hope Meizu fixes it fast if not already.

The main problem of this handset is the back button its not functioning well. So if you spend much money think to buy the most branded one with the same 20MP Camera go for sony xperia. No headache!

A lot of bad points in this handset model do not waste spending 17,999 php . One point is the back option when you are in FACEBOOK having press the comments or other things you can no longet go back to facebook menu i hve to restart the phone again and again. The phone and the material design is good but the functions are not user friendly so think twice when buying this. Thank you

I was able to use the third party sms messenger before but now it's all updated I can no longer use it please fix the bugs I cannot Set the third party apps. Also whenever I am at playstore and view the screen shots of the desired apps I cannot go back to the "small" screen shots . I have to go back to the main menu of the playstore. Pls Pls update the firmware to fix the many bugs.

I have an Meizu MX4 for about a month now and i can tell you for sure that the battery is good enough. It's not excellent but the device is running 4.4.2 so i guess that in lollipop update, battery will be better. If you have max brightness, vibration in every touch, 4G an you play games at performance mode then you will get about 4 hours before running out of battery but this is normal.

I took a chance & got this phone from Hong Kong to replace my damaged LG G2 & I'm from UK. I've had it over a week now & have absolutely no regrets. The UI is very simple & the screen is clear, colourful & crisp. I've had no trouble with internet speeds & infact is quicker than my LG G2. It's a large phone but feels really comfortable in the hand. The camera is top notch 20mp. The music player is loud & crisp with headphones. I was worried getting the Meizu MX4..... but I'm convinced Chinese phone manufacturers will make a dent in European markets in 2015 with quality like this....

The battery life with most updated firmware is really bad in daily use. Typically 5hrs from 100 to 0 with screen light on. The 5.36 inch screen is battery killer since more than 50% battery is consumed by it. GSMARENA shall check the battery life test very carefully!

This unit is indeed very awesome, yet the battery is a major drawback..once the battery's dead, so as the phone. No battery replacement means new phone, but this depends o n how frequent u replace your phone though.

Most of the things were Chinese and there is a app called google now for mx4 after installation this was perfect all English and This is really good gaming performance internet all the things are good. Pictures are perfect and can do videos in 4k mode fantastic. when do longer videos phone temperature going high that was a drawback other than that for this price this is a good phone with speed

I've though that before but after trying to play graphic demanding games such as Modern Combat 5, Real Racing 3, COD(strike team) with Chinese unpopular brand pablet (Winford A78) which is driven by MediaTek MT6592 1.7 GHz octacore chipset, I don't dare to underestimate them any longer. Games can run so smoothly and graphic is so good. When I have incoming calls while playing those games, games pause for a while and replay after finished. No err. I enjoy it so much. Try it like me, you'll know Chinese brand are not to be underestimated and have great price-performance ratio.

What's interesting about the chip, also, is that there is clearly some optimizations to be done still. This same chip has put out scores of a mere 11,000.....and also over 16000, in 3dmark IceStorm Unlimited 1080p. Why such a huge difference? Antutu's score for 3D on the MX4 is the highest of any phone. I've seen it blazing through some games. Its performance seems strange and unbalanced, like it still needs some better software optimizations.

MT6595 is a high-end processor, on par with Snapdragon 800, and on top of that 4.4.4 KitKat with something I don't really like (a custom interface, I prefer stock android) but considering that Meizu has been good at optimizing their software lets hope for the best! Also the GPU is relatively new and powerful so it should perform better than Adreno 330, PowerVRG6400 and is pretty much on par with the best GPU's around, except Tegra K1 which is a beast!!!
