Owner from the start. I am a professional photographer, and Camera in phone is a major reason for buy. I am immpressed with quality it produces that phone. I was seeking an android device but back then was not any phone to compete with camera quality! A nowadays? Tested with newer phones, but.... still better picture quality! So I decidet, to buy a cheapest android device for wallet and musthave apps. For Calls, Text, Mail, Internet and Camera i use Lumia 950 XL. New battery cost me 18€ and i have again new phone. Owner of this phone from begininng. Camera is my priority! Compared with H. P20 Pro and 950 xl is still better! Sensor size make a big difference. Now i am looking for a new battery (removable). Just got this (2nd hand, but virtually unused). An excellent phone. They are very cheap on ebay, but the screen is great, the processor is good, there is the retina scanner to sign in which works reasonably well, the camera is good, most of the important apps still work well enough. It seems you are getting a lot of phone for the money, if you can get one for £100 or less. The windows system is much tidier and easier to use. The battery isn't great but not too bad either.

My Microsoft 950XL was bought second-hand. It does not ring but goes straight onto Voicemail. How can I re-set it to actually ring before it goes to Voicemail. I have a UK provider and +44 phone number but live in Spain mostly. The phone is set for roaming and has been confirmed as such by 3 Mobile, my provider.

hello i had auto focus and mannual focus problem(+ after a drop start and clicking sound when i entered camera app, the sound was cause camera focus gear was damaged)so replaced camera bought on ebay replaced by myself with youtube disassembly vides. result crystal clear videos and perfect autofocused photos.Problem solve.Awsome phone, no support anymore :(

I did. Bought Xperia XZ3 (I won't buy chinese stuff. Nor koeran, in that matter. :) ) And believe or not, i like my old 950XL more. (And it's getting update as i write.) XZ3 is beastly phone, but Android sucks even more than it did back when Jelly Bean was a word. And it seems to copy Windows Phone, partially. Since when you can't assign mp3 for ringtone freely but must copy it to ringtones catalogue first?

Having this since 2016 and it successfully be my best phone! memories from those years until today are recorded and captured beautifully. If you like camera art, like macro photography/recording and custom iso and stuff, this is the right phone for you. Current days, I having a bit problems with this phone as some apps won't have features that they had in their Android and iOS platform, such as WhatsApp, Messenger and LINE. But as long as you have a backup phone (a cheap Android Phone) it could be the secondary phone and this phone will always be in your heart :) Microsoft discontinued and killing the platform, but it's not a zombie yet, it's still alive and working great. Oh yeah, I always working great with the Continuum :)

Me. The reason I shifted to android is that there are very little option on the handsets available (and software). But I think Windows platform is good. Straight forward, light, easy to connect and sync with PC. I don't really use all the features of Android, though they are good as well.

You may just hope for microsoft comeback in camera field with Andromeda. For now nothing beats camera performance. I know pixel 2, u11, xz got its pros, but hi-res&no-artefacts and 3D 145dB audio, they wont give you that. Even just as camera with some phone functions as bonus is enough. Maybe they just give you enough time to earn enough money for that new product, will be pricy for sure.

Sure, the development has been stalled earlier this year, but the usual wave of security updates now and then will go on. Microsoft apps may be updated as well. Sadly, the Lumia 950 series are the pure example of good hardware powered by sub-par software

It has íris scanner, it Works like a fingerprint sensor of your eyes. It's more reliable and secure than a fingerprint sensor to. Yes it's a good phone. But you have to think that Microsoft is terminating the w10m system in 2019 and it's not like android or iphone, you will not find apps for everything. If you use the phone to work with office, to carry your data and have total control over data and syncronization I believe it's one of the better divices I've ever seen.

I have been an android man until I got hold of my Lumia 950 xl. At first I did find it difficult to navigate, after 1 day I got used to it an I love this phone. The mistake I had was that I was expecting the Lumia to be like the android and I believe most people do that is why I found it difficult to navigate.

I'm on stable ring so I still expect some fun, new existing updates 2y after is also great. Actually the most important things that made me buy this is haac mics(up to 145dB) better by 10dB than the rest, also price is lower than similarly specced androids. Also got 1020 before, still useful, great for low light zoom in, 38mp wallpapers. Kittens in 38Mp looks especially good. Would take Sony if it would come with even better camera and better mics. Camera is priority to me, but I got to say this insider thing, giving feedbacks got its own charm. Shame next device will be probably prices 999+.

Its actually pretty alive, and at least until next flagship will be. Some apps are missing so I use also old android phone, but I like this integrity with everything in one place, syncd with desktop. Its like pixel or iphone, but as W10 user its for me better. Also mind that its more camera centric than rest of competitors with own OS(from apple, google) - it got big aperture &sensor size &4 haac mics &wide fov, great colors... Its still worthy opponent also considering price, but I guess not best overall performer anymore. I consider it kind of test phone for microsoft, but its great titanic for me, good enough to swim half/year until new flagship.

i have the same problem before with my lumia 950xl, when i unlock the screen it turn off by it self. sometimes when phone on sleep double tape to wake up it suddenly turn black screen. i've changed the battery and the problem still present, i changed with another batter it works great now. no sudden turn off when i unlock it or when i use it. i guess the problem with the battery. i ordered batteries from amazon two pieces, one of them dose not fix the problem but the second did, i guess its matter of battery issue. good luck

I have never used a stupid phone like this. battery is a joke....from morning till evening with very little use battery is drained...if i switch one app to another it will switch off, some times it will switches its on otherwise i have to remove the battery manually and connect to the charger.Cant predict its functions it ill do anything from restarting to getting froze. i am not a person to write reviews but if i am forced to do it. Never will buy anything from Microsoft, my contract will finish in November, cant wait for that. Bought this rubbish phone with huge expectation all in vain...I am not at all happy with this crap phone

You are lucky you bought it for 350. I bought this for 750 - preorder when it was launched. First it started with wifi connectivity issue. New updates added new bugs. Now I almost regularly have to remove the battery to restart it. It just seems stuck. Browser load first time causes the browser to be frozen. I need to close and reload the browser after which it works fine. Using browser itself drains the battery. Only thing I kept with this for so long (now 2 years ) is because I paid a premium for this phone and I find windows phone to be best for email handling. Lot of apps have stopped support- amazon, bank of America etc. Last time I buy a Windows phone. Switching to one plus 5 in a few days.

The way fans can change / help change system how they like it with feedback option is just awesome. I also like that original hw and sw, white on black, w10(some apps even work lile in full w10). Even coming new device will have full one, what to hate? They also take important camera features as main features, not like Apple 1/3" sensor, mono audio. Even now there is no competitor to 145dB mics, not to mention 4 of them, colors pop out, recordings go over 5, 10 minutes up to hour, not like some. System I got is stable version, well it was not meant to survive anyway, at least touch&pocket style of OS will survive. What I hate though is that there is no store in my country. Well it was util recently, until they went totally savvy, and closed it. Hope they change that, we got apple everywhere, samsung and soon xiaomi. About time they come, maybe surface phone will change that.

The problem with your 950 XL might be the battery. Pull the battery out and feel it out. Put it on a flat surface and try to spin it. If it spins, your battery is swollen, which means it's busted and needs to be replaced.

I bought this phone a year back assuming it be one of the best phone is market as it was a flagship from Microsoft. Honestly speaking i did not had a good experience with mobile, my experiences are shared below. Cons: 1)Related to battery: On heavy usage the battery doesn't even last for half day, though phone supports fast charging it feels hectic to charge the phone 2 to 3 times a day for heavy usage. The camera app also consumes a high power. 2) Microsoft App store: There aren't many VPN Services app on Microsoft Store therefore a security issue. Few VPN apps are available that to doesn't work well. --> Also many other day to day Social Apps doesn't work well which is the major reason Microsoft doesn't have a good market share. 3) Encountered many lags and hangs while working. Pros: 1) Excellent Camera with Optical Image Stabilization, One of the best camera phones in the market. 2)Excellent Display clarity. 3)Excellent Audio Clarity. 4) Microsoft office apps like Word, excel and Power Point works quite well. 5) Continum Support.

Aside from no applications the list of problems: 1) Too easy to crack screen. Have lost 3 costly screen covers thankfully opposed to actual screen. 2) Cannot see screen in natural light or brightly lit artificial environments. 3) Wi-Fi disconnects, forces reboot more than staying connected. Microsoft cannot comprehend adding a "connect" button to settings or making power save work properly. 4) Onscreen keyboard, location of Windows key causes too many lost messages with text input! Within the first year more applications where discontinued or simply stopped working to make it useful. Lost mobile banking and Starbuck's which never really worked July 2017. Continuim is fun if free, not warranted for purchase. Only UWP applications work which is limited to Microsoft and a few others. Hope lies in Windows S and application developers waking up to reality of a single application running on PC, tablet, phone, console delivered through the Store. Sadly the phone will be dead before that happens. Great camera, good audio output and capable screen when it can be viewed.

The best feature - Continuum is bullshit - there are no apps available except the Office apps (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) and edge (which is not actually a browser - it takes 15-20 seconds to display the contents of a page which are already downloaded! VLC Media player is available but it just does not work. You can't move your video forward; if you try, you WILL HAVE TO wait for 2 minutes for a 5 second forward. There are almost no apps. Those which are there are either third quality or just do not work. It does not support VoLTE - so not future proof. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! I am saying because I am an idiot, who did!

Absolutely the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune of owning. I cannot overstate how much frustration this phone has caused me over the past 6 months of use (as the horribly cracked screen illustrates). The first month or two I had practically no issues and the one or two I did were related to applications, not the phone itself. Something changed along the way, however, as the device seemed to dedicate itself to my anguish. At first there were relatively minor glitches (speaker cuts out at times thinking I plugged in headphones, screen becomes stuck in landscape mode) but over time, things only got worse as more debilitating glitches, such as severe lag in the browser with practically 0 load on the device, input lag upwards of FIVE SECONDS and even the occasional freeze. Of course my weeks are never complete without at least one total freeze forcing a reboot either. That's not to say that every Lumia 950xl has these issues or will ever exhibit even one of them, just that I paid $350 new for the phone and I feel ripped off. My next device will be an iPhone.

Depends if you are not in fast or slow ring, stable version is great. There are also few of them, if last is bad for you just use one before. I just used WDRT after that everything was working smoothly. Its worth the work, you still get flagship functions with newest OS and also still flagship hw, like microphones no one can beat even now. If you are so hungry for apps, wait till surface phone, will be Great but also for 1000-1300euro price I expect.

This is frankly the worst phone ive ever had. Ive had it since it was released and up until very recently it has worked ok but the battery now suddently de charges, and leaving it to charge overnight gives me about 10 minutes of use maximum. Not to speak of the complete lack of apps in the app store. I would also like to point out i barely use my phone other than for calls and texting and the occasional game to pass time by. Really i dont know if this is only a problem for me but it really ruins my day when i get a call, and as i answer it my phone runs out of charge. Although I was skeptical but still I went ahead and bought the factory unlocked Alcatel Idol 4S Windows from Amazon for $275. Seriously I'm amazed by the quality of the device. No overheating issues, fast and fluid performance, excellent RAM management, clear and loud stereo speakers, and beautiful design. It's leagues ahead of my 950 XL in terms of features and performance except for camera. I'm seriously stunned by the quality of this new Windows 10 Mobile phone which costs cheaper than a ZTE Axon 7.

I have been using Lumias since the Lumia 800 and have either used or help fix phones from Lumia 900, 920, 930, 520, 530, 535, 820, 830, 620, 625, 640, 640xl, 950, 950xl, 1020 and 1520. Unfortunately Microsoft has been a total let down. WhatsApp crashes, freezes the phone, forces it to reboot, black screen for hours, even stops working while typing (950xl). Now to hear Creators update gonna thin out what's left, I have decided after 7 years of Windows to switch to Android. It is truly sad to see how Microsoft neglects it's loyal users, customers and developers. After this post, I suggest others to leave as well as with past experiences with Microsoft, they will leave us high and dry. If anyone is looking for a good suggested replacement phone......i would recommend the Honor series. I got myself an Honor 8 and it is honestly and truthfully faster than the 950xl, runs Microsoft's own apps better than the 950xl and even lasts longer in terms of battery with a screen which in my opinion looks better. Loud speaker sounds a little hollow, but it will definitely get the job done. Sadly Microsoft will eventually give up on the mobile thing........everyone is wondering what's happening but this is just typical Microsoft. I loved what they tried to do, but they do not focus on their own. Farewell Lumia, u will be missed dearly :'(

Yes it does, in fact all Windows 10 Mobile devices do. You can even attach a USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter via OTG if you want, that works too with Windows 10 Mobile.

I have been using this phone for quite a while now and I honestly never thought I'd be saying this but........it has become such a disappointment now. Suddenly it's hot, freezing like 5 times a day, im unable to type in WhatsApp frequently and I have reset and recovered the device multiple times already. I love lumias and it was great when Nokia was doing them but now I really need a replacement for this device......there is no surface phone. The 950 XL is absolutely the best all round Smartphone I have used to date. Windows 10 is fantastic and I have two 950's one for personal use the other for Business. Battery life is far better than any Samsung - I had a number over the years and only one I can really give a nod to is the Galaxy Note 3.

After using it for 46 hours, I found its battery drained 1% on each 2 minutes, while there's no application running in background, brightness level was set to "darker", 4G was on, typing on the phone was the only task I was doing with this device. The speed of my Microsoft Lumia 950 XL was also relatively slow compares with my Sony Xperia Z3+ which uses the same processor.

It is free cloud storage.Don't be fooled by the "free" sign though...I got their "free"storage when I bought my lumia 925 and 1 years later when it was full of my family pics and videos they sent a note that "free" is not going to be free anymore and if I still want to use that space I will have to pay for it.2 months after the first note,my "free" one drive storage was deleted and became BATE for Microsoft's new phone's buyers. It is very handy to have FM radio, especially while in strange town during vacation, or in emergency situation for information. (Chances are, FM radio station still up and running, even when cell phone network went down) I use "Radio FM Phone" since it doesn't have annoying ad pops up. Search "FM radio" on store, you will see a lot of hits, let me know if you find better app.

Well I bought the phone about 8 months back was working great but after the last update the phone is heating to an unbearable level and it is draining the battery within 2 to 3 hours. I lost my screen due to over heating and had to get a new one installed. We don't have warranty backups in Pakistan like others have it in their countries so Nokia Pakistan would not listen to our claims and u had to get the screen from the market. My suggestion to all the ppl will be please check your local warranties then buy this phone else your money will be wasted

Google Chrome isn't available for Windows 10 Mobile. Instead of it go for Cốc Cốc Browser. It is based on Chromium like Google Chrome and is almost same as Google Chrome. It is based on slightly newer version of Chromium so it is a bit faster than Google Chrome.

I got this phone two weeks ago (bought in the US) and I like it, the reason I bought it was to try someting different (I still keep my samsung note 4) and it is different, but I have some problems I cannot see how to solve them: 1. There is no FM radio. 2. I cannot install Crome in it. 3. Since I am using Hebrew as my second language I cannot install the speller as in every other windows 10 devices.

Don't listen people that do not know what they say. You see 16 MP camera resolution because default Aspect ratio is set to be 16:9 (camera take much more wider pics than it perform with ratio 4:3). If you want 20 MP camera resolution change the Aspect ratio in the camera setting to 4:3 and you will have it.

In standby, their is no problem, the problem comes while using it. Their is eher it consumes. Standyby i do not get more then 3 to 5 percent per hour

It's happening to me too after last update... And phone has also started become slower or laggy... But I think it can be due to allot of apps running in background with new update... Try to use it in offline mode for a day only on wifi. No GPS or Cellular activity !!!

Sounds a little odd. Latest update gave me more battery life. Is ur OS build at 10.0.14393.693? Seems the updates affect each device differently. Since the update I actually go two hours without battery drain with glance screen on. I get to 65% at 6pm during a regular day. Does your phone heat up alot? If so it could be a throttling issue. Check to see what apps are running in the background and close them. I don't leave any apps running in the background.....but just give it a try and see if that affects performance

Your statement is right on Lumia 950XL and some other phones, I understand how AMOLED screen works. In case of non-AMOLED screen, regardless Windows or Android, it will consume battery energy since it require entire back light on. (on LCD, Black color is producing by liquid crystal blocking light) Well, there is couple reasons, 1) I don't want to burn screen. look at AMOLED Samsung phone deonstrated/isplayed at Bestbuy, it has burnt image. 2) I love the way glance screen appears when I open the flip cover. 3) it has better protection than back cover only. 4) Japanese loves flip cover.

If that was your reason for buying the case, you shouldn't have bothered. Glance screen does not consume your battery at all, unlike android that copied windows and called it "always on". "Always on" will consumer your battery and light up your entire screen. Glance screen does not activate your entire screen, it only light up the digits. One way to find out; go to a completely dark room swipe your hand across the top right side of your device, then cover only the digits firmly. You'll notice that the rest of the screen does have any form of light only the digits, the room will remain completely dark. Android the copycats didn't do a good job with "always on".

Thank you very much kaz for your comments/suggestions. With me I keep my location, data, wifi continuously ON throughout. I do not use Bluetooth at all. I recently installed my device firmware from Windows device recovery tool but since it was an old firmware on Microsoft server, my device updated itself to the latest firmware on the air. I will activate "double tap to wakeup" now and also I am suspecting that keeping data and location services always ON may be consuming a lot of battery. I will switch them OFF to see the improvements. With regards to flip cover, I did not know that Lumia 950XL has hall sensor. Could you suggest me some decent flip covers but not too expensive as I recently bought Mozo back case so my hands are little tight.

"Double Tap Wake up" function is very handy. I also bought Flip type case and inserted phone. This will prevent display become active involuntary. If phone is placed in loose condition, and when phone detected any movement, display becme active. Hope this will help.

I think you're asking to wrong person, I am not the person who loves technical tune up. That means I didn't do any special setting, I just enjoy the phone as is. (Although mine last much more, I think battery for 18 hour is still good, 6AM to Midnight... I wouldn't worry) I leave Bluetooth (Hand-free talk while driving), GPS (Just in case I want to take picture), Wifi (to connect to free Wifi at McDonald and Coffee shop) ON all the time. I only activate Data when I need it. However, Very first thing I did was, Firmware Update through "Windows device recovery Tools" and activate "double-tap wake up" function.

Though it has plastic body but it is quite durable than most of the phone present out there... Dropped the phone many times but it survived the drop...unlike my friends as they had spiderwebs on screen only once they dropped ... I prefer durability over looks... And yeah most of the time you would look at screen of the phone not at back of the phone ... :p And it has got a quite great screen ...

After every update in last two months now, this 5.7 inch device become a showreel of starting idea what Windows 10 shood be. It's excellent showcase with bunch of goodies. Better than any iphone 6s or 7 or everyday Android. Yes, you will not regret, this is best Windows phone regardless what some other people said. 1. Good/Super camera photo quality, even in darkness. 2. Beautiful display. 3. Many 3G and LTE bands covered, good for traveling around world. 4. NFC, hoping there will be more electric wallet becomes available. 5. FM Radio, nice to have. 6. Qi Wireless charging, nice to have. By default the camera aspect ratio is set to 16:9 which makes the picture resolution as 16 megapixel. However if you change the aspect ratio to 4:3 it shoots full 20 megapixel pictures. This is not only unique to Lumia but to all phones. The specified camera megapixel for any smartphone denotes resolution in 4:3 ratio not 16:9.

In Apr/2016, Microsoft eliminated the radio apt on the Lumina 950 xl, but the radio is still there but you need to download a third party apt such as FM radio (comes with ads) from their store.

My dear friend, you will have to download a special tool, namely, Windows Device Recovery Tool on your computer. Then connect your lumia device to it and run the application (follow the instructions). You will have to downgrade your phone to Windows Phone 8.1, then download from WP store the Upgrade Advisor app, which will help you to upgrade your phone back to WM 10 mobile. It may sound a bit complex, but it is not. Good luck!

Go to settings, tap on system, tap on storage select the drive you want to clear, then tap on temporary file. There you will see three boxes i. Temporary files ii. Download file iii. Telemetry. You can choose to clear which option you want. As for the apps cache, it cleans up automatically. Going to storage through the settings allows you to have better management of your drives.

Sadly their isn't any. The only way is by deleting them. Their are apps like wp central that have a delete cache button in settings. Something all apps should have, especially facebook, facebook messenger and whatsapp. But they won't do it. Your info is their money.

depending on what you mean. Ring time for what? When we talk about, when someone is calling you, their is no software problem in tat. But more like your career. They probably activate voice-mail to soon. And that is why is ringing short. Can also be the you activate the voice-mail. Anyhow, call your self from another phone and see what is happening. Then talk with the career and tell them about their greedy way of making money;) and how you really don't like it.

Awww sorry to hear that. It is actually brighter than the 920, but sounds like it just needs a little adjusting. That blue screen, sad face I think is a software issue but you can look it up on YouTube. It id a great phone. I have had my problems, but I am using a 950XL right now to write this comment. Once its running it's an awesome phone.......just takes a little patience.

I got this 950XL in feb 2016, the screen is not as strong as the lumia 920 screen. Its showing me a blue screen with a sad face now. A friend said i need to change the battery! Yes it has good picture etc but its a phone i regret buying.

I did update the firmware about a month back which upon completion of the install, left me with only my app list, no home screen was there at all and swiping was disabled. I used the the recovery tool and after the second install, it started working fine. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, the situation got to a point where I couldn't make any calls so I did a hard reset about two days ago and oddly enough, it's working perfectly again. Im using it to make this comment and all. I got the latest update as of yesterday and now I have no issues......at least not yet. Fingers crossed it behaves. Thanks for the help!

Wow, what a great comment! Nope, just kidding. Your recomandation is kind of lame, settings less and nothing special. For the moment, i'll stick with something that actually UPDATES, Not just updates, but using the old saying. If it ain't brocken, don't fix it, that apple does since ever. Their systems are all dated and boring as hell. Not to say how retarded the mac is in front of windows, windows is light years away of that system. That system stucked in 1998. Ios stcked in 2007. Their design stucked at what they managed to copy from old school nokias. Yeah, i have to agree, i recommand not going for ios;). Android would be a way better option for windows users then that lifeless system, and i do not like android at all;).

Windows mobile is here to stay. And is more secure then the desktop version, cause of sandboxing. I would not like a desktop version for my smartphone at all. Neither should you. Antiviruses make the system slower and are not quite the perfect thing to have, exe apps are kind of useless on such small screen. I see no benefit of using a desktop version in a smartphone. But yeah, they could bring some more future from that version to mobile, i am not against that:)

For videos: Ach player, or flv player (the first is a nifty little tool, that sadly does not have a up to date inerface but does almost everything. Is not that simple to use and understand, but once you do it, it will be interesting not to have it. Music: Loci music player, the best their is. The single player closer to winamp, i do not need online crappy this and what ever groove does. Windows info. Windows central, apprising. To great apps, no need for other info apps. Battery: Battery x. The only app i see does not take a punch to the battery it self. Nice litle app with graphics and some other interesting functions. For locking pictures, videos and notes: Brilli gallery locker Casting: Duplex media player. Is kind of expensive, but does have some great function not that easy to ignore (app is farely new, so might have some bugs For archives: Extractor for ZIP and RAR (yeah, a stupid name, but a good app. Foto editing. Fantasia painter (the best their is, in my opinion), vinci and fotor. Note taking : Kicknotes. The apps is promising, has backup on local storage and you can set a pin on it, also you can set a pin entering the app. Sadly has some annyoing bugs. But it's functions are not to be found anywhere so, well, i have to stay with the bugs. Alternative browser. Monument browser. Is good and interesting to use. For you tube: MyTube, i have came a long way in this platform, but nothing compare to stability and speed of this app. I hate the interface of you tube on android, this app just kills that interface in my opinion, and is full of functions. For more functions: Perfect tools. Great compass, speedometer, noisemeter and so on. Try it. Touch and lock: Great app for locking the screen without pressing any button. It avoids systems animations so the screen will lock instantly. Xodo for pdf. stopmusic (the yellow one) to kill music and delete thse nasty buttons always staying on while presing volume rocker. Wifi file sharer, nifty little tool to share files. Video compressor, great tool for making smaller videos to send via whatsapp or whatever other app you want to send videos with. T-translator: Better does not get. Blame google for crappy resaults, their will be some.:) I don't play games, the only game i have and still keeps me interested is yatzy ultimate. Analize the apps you installed, this type of behaviour can be also the cause of an app doing whatever. In audiorouting disable "during a call" function, if you have it on. This function messe up my phone sadly. They will fix it, but well, takes some time. Update to the latest comultative update, was released yesterday. If nothing works,take it back. Or jump on ms's throat. They will have to give you some answers, helping you with something. This can also be a firmware error. Do you remember when it first happened, what you did before, installed?

Ok so my 950XL is freaking out. Music doesn't play if I close groove and open it again, if music is playing and the screen is locked, I can't adjust the volume without unlocking the device or waking it. The loud speaker activates on its own even tho the audio routing is turned off in both whatsapp calls and normal call app. I reinstalled the software using recovery tool but after about two days it starts again. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

As far as I know calls are recorded manually, it is very easy to record, because it among the menus when you are making or receiving a call. I guess that way you do not have to record calls not worth recording, thereby minimising the use of your storage. The dedicated camera button launches the camera, even when the phone is locked (though you will have to enable it to launch when locked in the settings). If you press the button half way it will stabilise and focus the image. Pressing down and holding the button take images in panorama mode. The download speed for single SIM is 300MB/s while the dual SIM is 150MB/s

It actually started acting up b4. It got it's first ever fall yesterday but it wasn't hard. It's in a shock proof case and the case took the damage. Fall wasn't even hard enough to seriously damage the case. Just point of impact has a slight scratch. Not sure why the sudden problem coz it was fine a few days ago....actually it started happening on Tuesday.

Sorry about the issue you are having, I guess you are left with the option of resetting. In my opinion it might not resolve it. I am thinking it is a hardware problem, did the device receive a hard blow, fall, etc. This could lead to hardware issues, which can make it malfunction.

Ok so after playing with it,even when it is off ot turns on. Each time I make a call it automatically turns on even though the setting is set to off. Sometimes it turns on and doesn't turn off and I can't hear the person I'm calling. Thinking of resetting. Any suggestions?

Ever since I received this device I have had no trouble with it what so ever. Now I'm trying to find out if anyone else has come across this problem that just popped up outta nowhere like an rko. When I go to make a phone call the on speaker button highlights on it's own and doesn't turn off. Any out going call made after this happens can't go thru since the on speaker button is highlighted and u don't hear anything. Has this happened to anyone else? You can say some social media apps like Snapchat and some games are not available, but to say the OS is buggy is just a not true. Have you updated your device, cos a far as I can tell, the OS is perfect and sweet now. Also I guess you're using Lumia 950xl, cos most people use other low end Lumia devices and they come here and review rubbish based on the model they are using. Some often argue all Lumias are the same, just as note 7 is not the same with s7, so it is with Lumia. Updates for various lumia models varies, so is the performance as well. e.g L550 is yet to get double tap, larger screen displays can get a fourth column of live tiles, etc.

I like the Windows OS its a light OS like iOS can run on low ram phone models, better than iOS when it comes to battery life of the device etc.., I'm not a big app fan but, I would like to see some good apps on windows store which are missing in large #'s when compared to both iOS & Android. Windows doesn't have the larger interest to support developers for Windows Mobile apps, I know this for sure because I know a lot of developer who have openly confirmed MS has neglected them and they did not see a reason to continue developing for Windows. One thing I know for sure is that most rumors about lumia/windows phones are hardly true, when compared to rumours you hear about other OS. I remember one time when some rumour mongers said MS were working on Lumia 1530 they even put up some images, but it was never true, and some other similar stories like that were equally never true. MS has come a long way developing secured mobile OS. In the year 2000 MS made windows mobile it ended in 2010, it was very similar to windows 98. Windows mobile was developed for PDA (Personal Data Assistant) and pocket PCs. After 10 years it developed windows 7 it ended in 2014, Windows 7 was very restricted to what one can do, the need for a less restricted and yet very secured OS had to be developed in 2012 which is Windows 8. Most devices on windows phone 8 can be upgrade to the latest windows phone OS and are still receiving updates till dates. Apps has always been the only issue with windows phone OS, The need to close the app gap led to the development of windows 10/ Windows 10 mobile, which allows for the development of universal apps(apps that can run on your laptop/PC and as well as on your phone). From the history I have highlighted above I do not see any ditching of windows 10 mobile any time soon, because windows 10 (the current OS on PCs) and widows 10 mobile are very similar in many ways. The need for improvements has driven MS to this stage of its mobile OS. The rumoured release of a surface phone does not in any way stop other lumia devices from receiving updates (otherwise what will be the reason), cos windows 10 mobile is still very relevant, and it has no way affecting current releases. Some OS can not be updated to current OS, when that happens, then you can say for sure that the OS will be ditched. Unlike windows 10 mobile it is very current. You will agree with me that there is no official upgrade for android 2.3 to android 7.0 available. I have equally not seen anyone trying to upgrade iPhone 3 to iPhone 10.01. Devices with these outdated OSes are almost no longer in our streets. This is a case where all fishes eat flesh, but it is the shark that bears the bad name

Hey Anonymous, I haven't come across the blog you've read so I can not comment on it but, based on some inside info from my friends working at Microsoft it seems like the updates will come for a limited time before they pull the plug. The surface phone has been talk of the town for a long time now, the topic begins before the Barcelona event some or some random rendered images shows up on the net. Its hard to say anything at this point, not sure how much success the Surface mobile device will bring windows phone. But, I still have to give it Microsoft for making the most secure OS after Blackberry10 OS. The Windows 10 is still a hard nut to crack into unlike Android OS which is prone to many loopholes. Nokia is planning to come back by the last quarter of 2016 or by the first quarter of 2017 with Android devices, well that say's a lot for Microsoft. Today, in India alone 90% of devices owned by people are Android devices as per the most recent AC Nielsen report and the market for Windows is shrinking really fast, the same goes for BB10 as well. I don't think you can downgrade L950 xl to windows phone 8.1, because the hardware is built for certain functions that are only compatible with windows 10 mobile. eg continuum, iris scanner etc.

Please do not misinform people, Microsoft has said officially that they will continue to support all windows phones, wether it is made by them or not. Mind you HP just launched elite x3, there is also primo by acer, and other corporations are currently making windows phones. Your Lumia 1520 came with windows 8.0 I am sure you upgraded to 8.1, and you can also upgrade it to Windows 10 mobile and it is still receiving support till date in apps, firmware and OS. It has not been ditched. There are rumours all over town that MS want to start making surface phones. That may be the reason for not making more L950(xl) recently, but it is going to continue to receive support. In my opinion MS allows you to enjoy your flagship for a while before releasing another one. Unlike iPhone that released iPhone SE, then iphone7 and 7+ all in this year no time to enjoy your flagship. Samsung is worse, before you start using S6, they will release S7, in another three months they will probably release S8. Lumia 950xl is the sweetest phone I have ever used, very productive. Continuum is very addictive, cos I use mine with a wireless keyboard and mouse, while it is connected to my TV.

Well, if you want support through out go for the Onpelus 3, sources within microsoft are not going to extend support for Microsoft lumia devices after december'16. Microsoft has an infamous history when it comes to ditching products because they were to lazy to make things move faster they pull the plug. I've owned a NL1520 for good part of time but, I ditched it for a Op1 and now a Op3, the phones don't offer the best camera's like the lumia series but they have good potential to improve with future os updates, that's something I can say about microsoft and their updates.

I don't know why some devices get problems like battery backup issues, heating problems etc. I have updated my phone many times. Got problem just once (battery issue). I updated phone and problem solved. I reset my phone after every update. Once i didnt reset it in anniversary update. all was fine after update but my phone was a little bit slow. I reset phone. Now all the things working perfectly. I hope it will help to shut out some of the problems.

Love my lumia 1520 and I will upgrade to the 950xl.. lots of people give bad review about windows phone becuase they do not know better than ios and android which in particular I think they both suck... millions of game a photos applications that what they have, nothing useful.. I posted earlier about the new firmware update and anniversary update together. I have finally settled all the updates and firmware and guess what?!? THIS PHONE IS NOW A BEAST!!!!! I charge overnight and remove from charge by 7:30. Phone hits 97% by 12:30pm. To completely drain it by 11:30pm I had to keep the screen on when I got home from work at around 5:30 and open up a bunch of apps and play a few games. I haven't completely adjusted all of the settings as yet but I'm only assuming when I complete my adjustments it will probably actually last a full day. I love this phone more and more each day and despite the people talking about apps (the androidites and same-sung-ites), this phone has been stable from day one and is even smoother than before. Keep the updates coming Microsoft.

Nee firmware that enables double tap to wake has made this phone even smoother. I had a little problem updating and lost my backup data, but despite that, the phone recovered very well bringing back all my messages and contacts. It's only been a few hours with the new firmware and anniversary update ontop so will see how it holds in terms of battery life and heating up. But I only had small heating issues when updating and charging......otherwise, phone does not get hot. Awesome phone and it keeps getting better and better.

Deep down, you and I don’t get to decide whether Lumia is here to stay or not, leave that to management of lumia (Microsoft). For me Lumia/windows 10 mobile is here for good. HP and Acer are making windows phones already. All Microsoft business apps are available in all the mobile OS platforms, do you know what that means? You asked about the last time I got update on Instagram, this question begs me to really question if you use Lumia, cos if you do, you'll know that it was very recent with a new icon and more focus on your picture and videos (you can ask other Lumia users in your area). When I mention that there is a difference between 950xl and 640xl here is what I mean. The processor of 950xl is different from 640xl, that alone is a whole lot of difference. The hardware of any and all devices have direct effects on the software of a device (that's why check out specs before purchasing) So when people complain of heating, it is as a result of the type of processor in 950xl, so issues peculiar to 950xl may not be same for 640xl. I know you have high end android devices, I saw on YouTube that Samsung galaxy s7 battery can only backup for only 4 hours. I cannot verify the battery status of Samsung galaxy s7 cos I haven't use it by myself (like I said I saw on YouTube). There is no perfect device. Lumia works for me. Great for my business, I do a lot of presentation. Continuum helps me a lot with my power point presentation on larger screen display. If you are happy with android stay with android, after all no phone is liked by all.

Here is a tip I want to share with people whose 950(xl) still heat-up and thereby drain out the battery juice. Whenever you have an update that is probably pending your connection to WIFI, the device tends to heat. Here is what to do. Connect to wifi and update your phone, save all apps to the device memory (not the SD card), go to windows store check for update of your apps and update the ones available (you can do this often), update your map (wifi connection may be required). Always ensure your device and your apps are up to date. Your device temperature will magically improve and battery status will positively amaze you (especially when you're on standby, for over three hours you'll hardly lose a percentage of your battery). Brothers and Sisters go ahead and enjoy your device.

From your comment we can easily know that you don't own a Lumia, you've never used one as well. There two Facebook app on windows store, the one by Microsoft which synchronizes your contact to people hub, then the recent one is the official app from facebook. They are both nice, fast and they never crash as you have claimed. There are equally two apps for Instagram, one is called 6tag which allows you to save pictures and videos directly to your device, the second is the official Instagram app itself. All these apps are very fast, they receive frequent updates and never crash, the two apps you just mention behave better in Windows phones than in any other os (oh I wish you truly have a Lumia, then you can see for yourself). Do not buy lumia products. They have no resale/2nd hand value. Currently Im using a 640xl dual sim phone. And Im a fast insider. The OS sucks big time coz its not stable. The major apps rarely gets an update. Therefor the apps are not stable. Crashes when you use for more than 1 minute. Ex- Facebook and Instagram. They are far behind compared to the IOS and Android versions. If you have money to waste buy lumia products. Go for an Iphone if you have enough cash if not for an android.

Sorry man about the issues your are experiencing on your device. Never knew or heard of anyone using this device that have these issues in the recent times. Let me suggest to you, first do a hard clean reset, install all your apps on the phone memory, update the phone, visit the app store update all your apps. Your phone will work just fine. Coming to windows phones, one needs to learn how it works, you can visit forums where related topics of concerns are discussed.

I have my 950 now for more than half a year and no issues. The version of W10 that came with the phone did have issues such as the need for restarts, but after the second update or so, not any more. I do not have problems with the lack of apps. All is there or there is a sufficient mobile website available. The only thing left is Onenote which will not synchronise when a note has more than e few pictures in it. Microsoft is aware of it since more than a year, but refuses to do anything about this (I had E-mailing with MS). Word and Powerpoint works fine, but personally I see no use of office programm on a mobile, although I use Powerpoint when doing a survey of an installation and making pictures with notes.

I purchased this phone as work phone due to its integration with MS Office etc I have been disappointed with stability and am constantly hard resetting the phone due to freezes. Quite often during the work day I find that the phone has restarted on its own and I have missed phone calls from customers. I have spent enough time on this device to give MS a chance to fix bugs etc but they just don't seem to care anymore. I would find it difficult to recommend this phone to anyone, the great spec is only a selling point if the device works. As for the debate about applications, Moving to this phone from IOS and Android the apps that we are used to simply are not there. I have been lumia 950 xl for a month now. At first it was getting hot and draining the battery fast, but after a hard reset, the phone works like a premium phone and it is a premium phone. As for the apps, who needs a thousand apps on the phone. The battery last for two days and hello feature is a blast not to mention the camera and the bright screen. The Microsoft lumia 950xl is even better than Apple iPhone 6 plus, that's according to go arena comparison.

Friends I really don't hate the OS. Who are using Lumia pls tell me have you never faced automatic reboot issue? I'm facing it on daily basis from beginning. I asked with support team they advice me to take heard reset. That didn't help me. I told them that navigation bar is eating 3-5 row of pixels at the bottom of UI when navigation bar is not hidden, they asked me to reinstall the OS. lool..... After upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile I'm feeling that phone has become little slower than the Windows phone 8.1.. More app crashes, loading and resuming screen. And my Lumia 730 automatically restarts everyday (not a new gift though). My app usage is also very less. Most popular Indian online store apps, recharging apps, one bank app, Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp, Candy crush, Asphalt, truecaller, and most of the Nokia/Microsoft exclusive apps. Any normal user can find the bugs in windows phone keep performance aside.

Lumia 720 broke down in less than 2 years and Lumia 535 in less than one year (it didn't break down but touch was horrible). Microsoft phones look good on paper..specs wise but in reality they're not. We both shifted to Nexus, never to come back to Microsoft phones...

The Phone is awesome, it has the necessary apps such as Whatsapp,Facebook,Instagram,BBC and much more. Just got the xl a couple days ago. I have not seen any bugs. I only have to charge it once a day and I would do that any way. I really like how fast and smooth it is. I like win 10 so it's nice things are familiar. Really like the integration with my Xbox one and win 10 laptop.

What are you familiar with about windows phone 950xl? I don't think you've used it. Cos if you have, you'll know that the only thing going for android is lots of app on the store and the popularity. Windows phone OS is way more stable than android. It is way more secured than android phone, with the latest update on the windows 10 mobile it is just premium. I understand it might take a few people a little while to get used to the OS especially if you're coming from android. Once you get used to it, you can't imagine yourself going back to android. The only reason some people use other OS is the apps that is not or yet to be available. For me, all the apps I need is on windows 10. I am very satisfied with windows 10 mobile. There is nothing, absolutely nothing in android. If there is please tell us right here. Android is just cheap popularity and plenty cheap duplicated apps. Android steals your info and sell it to large corporations, android phones crashes more often the other known mobile OSes, low-end android phones are useless and unproductive (while all low-end Lumia phones are equally as productive as the high-end ones), android is constantly attacked by viruses, Trojans, malwares, spywares it takes a lot of risk using android as your PDA.

I have opened that site both on mobile data and wifi with no problems or trouble what so ever. I have viewed interest rates, their online banking and even other sites with online banking access. Please and kindly ensure your device is ate Os Build: 10.0.10586.318. I honestly don't recall seeing updates for edge browser (there may have been some I missed) but otherwise you should be fine. I have been using edge and accessing sites which browsers in android have not been able to even access in comparison. I actually bought this phone and I'm pleasantly surprised - it's a quite good phone. Compared to my old full of hardware (bad vibration module, awful control keys, display disturbance and etc.) bugs (and software after the windows 10 update) Lumia 930, buying another Lumia was a bit of risk, but now I'm pleased. Yes, windwos 10 has some bugs, but I hope M$ will fix them. I'm especially pleased by the iris skener. It works like a charm. Even in dark room lighted only by PC monitor or laptop screen. And it works fast too. Good job M$. Now you have to fix this "Edge" f**ker (common guys, no forward key, really? and why the beep every page I open in background needs to reload itself everytime EVEN if I let the web page to load in the first place?) or remove it and bring Chrome or Opera, bring HERE maps and city lens back and everything will be ALMOST okay...ish.

I picked up Lumia 950xl a few days ago, I'm impressed by it, I've been android user for around seven years and I just got more and more frustrated with updates that made the phone have more glitches and slowed it down. So I digress the Lumia I have had for almost a week and the speed of it is incredible and the updates to fix any bugs are always helpful. I have hand no issues at all with my Lumia, I don't understand the negative reviews I've read before purchasing this phone as, the back does not creaky and it does not have any bugs that I have seen so far. The performance is outstanding from web browsing to daily app use and the camera is crisp and clear with ease of use to. That's all I can say as I haven't had the phone for a great deal of time. After 6mths with my 950xl, it has been great, & it does the job excellently.... But there are a few minor gripes.. - there is a persistent bug where if I enable data usage monitoring, it will keep telling me Im approaching my data limit and activate the preset data use limitations, even if im nowhere near the specified data limit... The notifications are quite anoying, sometimes multiple 'warnings' within minutes.I have had to deactivate the feature completeley - there is no native network file access (other than onedrive). This was overcome with an app called sharefolder explorer, but, even that wont run files from thier stored location, it first copys them locally, which means a delay before opening or streaming the file... Im yet to find a perfect solution. - random shutdown glitches, on several occasions the phone has 'spazed out' once giving me a flickering green screen, once the phone locked the vibrate feature on, its appeared to go flat and switch off after a critical battery warning, only to turn itself on randomly almost an hour later, and a couple of times just randomly turned off or restarted. It runs very hot when charging or working hard Continuum to a ztec spro2 android projector has proven difficult to connect... It works fine when both devices are on the same wifi network, but if they arent the connection fails, and using the hotspot either from the 950xl or the spro 2 and connectig the seccond device the miracast connection also fails, which doesnt make sence as miracast is supposed to be a direct connection independant of the wifi network.... Now, where I discovered the true value of this phone, is when my pc blew its motherboard up...... My television screen was used by my computer as a display. By connecting my phone wirelessly to a wireless miracast dongle, the 950xl has become an almost perfect replacement for the pc... A few things that reduce the experience are again the lack of integrated network access, and the sharefolder app wont work over continuum, so when accessing a network file it has to be done on the phone and 'beamed' to the screen... Same result, clumsy method. Not all apps work with continuum. For example, netflix wont run, but you get around this by running netflix via edge... Agan, same result, clumsy integration. Continuum allows to use the phone independantly of the offscreen desktop, but, you cant use for example netflix via browser on the bigscreen, and surf the web on ur phone at the same time because you can only use one browser window shared between both devices, or, bigscreen videos are paused if you use another media app on the phone screen.. Having audio from phone calls routed through the miracast device and movie audio stopped during a phone call is also irritating and could be implemented better I used to remote desktop alot to my home pc, but, because of continuum, i now carry my pc everywhere, as my phone has become an acceptable pc replacement.. I am very rough with my phones, it would be nice if there was a droproof and waterproof case available, although, i have submurged my phone accidently and it still works, it did drain the battery at first and left me in suspense for a while All the negatives asside, id buy another one if i lost this one in a heartbeat

Dude...the one with a restarting 730...check if your phone is in warranty and get it replaced asap.. Mine had the same problem from the very first day since its purchase..within a week I went to customer care..and they made me stand for a while and reinstalled 8.1 mobile OS... I was sure this wont help...and that evening the same thing happened..random restart...the frequency of this bug was the same as you are mentioning...twice or thrice a day...next i went there...they took my phone..kept it for 10 days..gave me a lumia 710 as a replacement phone for temporary use...and returned me the phone saying there was a problem in the IC chip integration which has been fixed...but the problem persisted...finally submitted it and got a replacement and this one barely lags or restarts! :)

When you say worst, I guess you know what it means. The very app you brag about in IOS is made by Microsoft. If you can't create a simple document it means you are still using the free version you need office 365. (Well, you can open up an existing document on your device wipe it clean and start typing your new document. Remember to use 'save as' when you want to save, so you don't overwrite your existing document.) You can resize your table in word, all you need to do is select print view format tap on the table, a resize arrow is at the bottom right of the table. To move the table, place your cursor above the inserted table and press enter as many times as you want. You can add flow chart with shapes and arrows. On a mobile device, you get the mobile version, with continuum you get the desktop version, there you can enable ruler. You can create simple document feature using continuum, my dear get office 365. Good device. I bought it couple of days ago and was really impressed. The phone for me should be all in one device and I usually use them very hard: 5 emails accounts, camera, music, AutoCad (A360), internet, social networks, messengers, music, Youtube, downloads, Office docs, skype etc - during the day and after Android (LG G4), which started to work very slow under such "pressure", Win-Lumia is like a "WOW". I had experience with Lumia 1320 for a year ago, but it was 8.1 and very basic camera, so I switched to Android. Yesterday tried the Continuum feature - its nice and handy but require a lot of improvements. Hope Microsift and other developers will not abandon that idea. Suprise, Autocad 360 supports Continuum in full screen. The screen give good feeling while touching, the weight is a bit heavy - also a good feeling. I am not a fan of flip-cases, so I have chosen the silicone back cover - amazing grip and comfort. Awesome camera with all kind of settings and effects. I am not a gamer, but tried Blitz tanks in Continuum - nice experience. I don't regret spending 750 USD on phone with all accessories: wireless charger, display doc, Wireless display adapter and all kind of cases and cables. Highly recommended.

I'm using a Lumia 730. I was under an option that only mid range and low end Lumia gets stuck and restarts automatically. But late I found that all the Lumia has the same problem. Why this is happening. My mobile was restarting 3 time in a day when it was ruining 8.1... After upgrading to 10, initially I felt it has decreased to 2-3 times in a day. But it is same. I bought the Lumia 950 XL. Best phone for me. It's very fast, very easy to use, Screen is amazing, Camera is top notch, Speaker is very loud and it feels solid and I still don’t know yet about much of his cool stuff. Windows store has all the apps that I need. I don’t understand all of the complaints about it, It's a very good phone. My friends are using iphone6 and the latest Samsung and I'm still getting all the attention. The Camera is so good that all of my friends are using my pictures for instagram and Facebook. The problems you had aren't from the device it self. Whatsapp had some problens with the screen resolution. Now they updated the app and the fonts are way better. As for viber, i never had problems with it's fonts. So maybe you have to lower the size of them in the settings of the phone?

Let's not eagerate thrir. I got the loose case with less then 4 cover removes, in fact, it started from the second. The build wuality of this phone is not even close to be on par with nokia, not miles away. This phone is the worse quality i have ever owned in my entire life, this is the samsung of the past. Yesterday, i noticed that my phone is mostly off then on while keeping it in my pocket...something wasn't right that's for sure! So i tuned it on and started to bend it a bit, sideways. It turned off fast. So the battery had something. The 3 pins were to far from eachother and minding the fact that the phone is as flexible as a plastic toy it turned off. I ended up using some needles to bring them back. Now it doesn't do it anymore. But for how long? The build quality of this device is a joke. And i am not gonna defend it. I love the device. I tell my experience while waiting for my 950XL I was using a LG G4, arriving mine I sold to a friend, this week with this beautiful team, note that brings a very very good camera, sound and screen, Android has apps not yet come to W10M and several are one step ahead of ours, but ... despite the powerful hard 4-5 times it appeared mje: the application "X" does not respond, notice lag in 2-3 opportunities, in about 3-4 seconds remaining labeled and then answered, then still in the android 6.0 v your things and still requires much hard. All S.O. They have their stuff but as that of W10M the underline more and more q think everything is by the lack of apps, if you would have the same apps on android q maybe not complain of everything. Windows 10 with enhanced apps that brought (Facebook, Instagram (BETA), Twitter, etc.) are a step forward and that is noteworthy. Now with my 950XL SUPER I'm happy, I love the camera and screen, I have not experienced any problems, only slight delay in Groove music to start the Now playing songs that after passing does not and x time delay in the notifi. Messenger with respect to the PC. I really like W10M and improve in future updates, but we are also impossible to form, if delayed 3 more months and polished best, as we were going to criticize, I hope to continue to encourage developers to make more Aplis and better not ask things not you others claim or that others do not. W10M like this very pointed the finger, I would say, which is free of lag and failures cast the first stone haha ​​(no, not the big apple would throw)

Regarding user experience in Windows 10. You have to remember that its not a complete product. It keeps evolving. At first in comparison to Win8.1 it felt like a tiny step backwards but with the recent builds....especially the 164 build, it feels so much better than 8.1. I mean, I have 10 on my pc and its awesome to be able to start work on my XL and finish up on my PC seamlessly. It's great. Since the last update, I have only had two reboots thanks to WhatsApp calls, but I know it will be fixed. After all more updates are coming and it will only get better.

Regarding this "creaky back cover" story. I purchased my new unit and no creak or squeak or any noise for the matter. It has been observed that you get the creaking noise when the cover is repeatedly removed and bent and twisted. Basically if the back cover gets excessively removed and replaced it will get creaky.....and I mean excessively (like someone who wants to replace a battery 10 times in a day). Otherwise, nothing 'creaky' about this phone.

Regarding durability, unless you plan on doing construction work, breaking rocks, opening bottles, hitting nails, sitting on it, digging holes and killing bugs with this phone you have nothing to worry about when it comes to durability. Personally I care my stuff, my 920 still looks brand new and its white. I bought a case for it and I haven't dropped it but if you look on youtube you will see a few videos regarding durability.

Hey, I have my 950XL and it is an amazing phone. The plastic doesnt feel too bad (infact weight of the phone is comfortable due to the build). Between elite x3 and 950xl depends on what phone size you are comfortable with. I had lumia 1520 earlier and I felt it to big little big for my comfort. 950xl feels good with marginally smaller footprint but better screen to body ratio. X3's back side built quality didn't look very good in my opinion. Lastly, i think we will significant price difference between 2 phones by the time X3 ships. So it may come down to best bang for thr buck.

Pay the troll no mind Scott. Not sure about the camera unfortunately but I can say that if you like the camera of the 930, the 950xl is up your street. The HP phone does look great spec wise, you can check that out on this site......tho some of the specs appear incorrect. For example, we know the snapdragon 810 uses cat6 for its downloading, so why does the 820 have cat3? Hope someone would clarify the specs later but it's a free country......make sure you see your options for yourself first. Best way to judge

Hi fellas! I am a Lumia 1520 user and I wanna go for an upgrade, however I'm confused about whether to go for this phone or wait some more time for HP Elite X3. I like the specs of HP Elite X3 after all it's powered by Snapdragon 820, has 4GB ram and it gonna sport high quality Bang and Olufsen audio system besides specs the most important thing is that it feels similar to my Lumia 1520 in terms of size, however I ain't sure about its camera and other specs. Battery life is good. I will get you through the entire day with casual use (phone calls, web browsing and music). Heavy use will drain of course........with serious gaming you would need to charge it at least twice. As for heating issue.........only gets warm when in heavy use and it doesn't get overly hot that you can't touch or hold it. It cools down rapidly enough. For example, getting it warm enough that when you move it from a surface the surface feels warm.....would take about two hours worth of serious gaming on it. But then within 1 - 3 minutes its cool to the touch. It does get a little warm when in a call after about 30 minutes. Casual use won't affect heating at all. Using WhatsApp now and then, a call here and there, it won't be overbearing. As I mentioned, cools down fast.

For users of this phone, you should be sitting here - version: 1511, os build: 10.0.10586.164. Only one issue I have come across on this build and its whatsapp giving a little trouble resuming after being suspended for about an hour. But once you close it completely and reopen it, it works fine. No freezing or crashing found otherwise. For something considered unstable and unreliable I would think there would be alot more problems. Give credit where credit is due. For a company trying to add a solid third option to the phone race, yes MS is struggling, but that's only because ppl fear what they don't understand. Its honestly more reliable and secure than android and updates don't behave anything like IOS.

Well, I see ppl posting utter nonsense here about Windows 10 being a "heavy" os and unstable and unreliable. Really!??! Are you sure you ARE using Windows 10? I have my Lumia 950XL since January and I has frozen twice.....compared to android which freezes at least 5 times a day. As for being a "heavy" os.......i have the tech preview on my lumia 920 and it runs fine. It does get warm when charging but it did that in general. Video playback is better than on 8.1 and battery life is even longer. Everyone is critical and just want to put down MS and the Windows platform. I mean......has anyone seen the recent problem in IOS which has disabled links in the phone? Apple has yet to even respond to their customers. Anyway, this is for ppl who actually use Windows 10 on a 950xl. If you have problems, post here. I will do my best to assist with problems. Don't be scared or discouraged by the trolls. The Lumia 950 and 950 Xl have a way better camera than the new Samsung Galaxy S7. For it you can check: Talk and Shoot. Very good testing. What I miss in your test (gsmarena) is the dif. comparison at the end of the test with the pictures, low light. There you compare S7 (ISO 250) with Lumia (ISO 500) at almost the same time. Even with this handycap the Lumia is almost better. Do not compare shutter time but ISO balanced. Then the Lumia rocks. But maybe Sammy and iPhone have always to win??

When I purchased this phone I was looking forward to the change from the ios platform. I wasn't going to let my approx $800 of app purchases deter me. The family have iPad's after all. First impression: I couldn't put it down. So many options and customizations. Great fun but then, when it came to setting up contacts and the calendars. It took me considerable time to work out how to delete and import people, and my outlook account held information online that didn't sync for up to 30 minutes to my phone. It wasn't an easy task to set up or a great welcome to the 950XL W10 OS. After 3 weeks I have a better feeling for the phone. It lacks some work related apps which is annoying. But that's the developers choice. I still wouldn't recommend this phone for a non technically minded person though. Just like using a windows PC, you need a fairly good understanding of how to navigate your way around and how to troubleshoot any issues. For example when receiving a message from an unknown caller, adding the number to a new contact required a cut and paste as apposed to it prompting to create one from just tapping on the number. I've been spoon fed for too long. Also when manually creating a calendar event, I constantly get an instant pop up reminder that the time is now due. It then creates a non titled event and disappears into the calendar abyss. Maybe these things I need more lessons on too, however my point is: Unless you love fiddling with your phone and playing with settings. Id stay with something else. On a positive note, I think the good outweighs the bad. It produces outstanding photos and videos. Audio input/output quality no issues. When the battery eventually goes flat. Overall I enjoy this phone and I'm more than happy to keep it and show it off however, if I bought one for another family member, Id never leave the house again due to the setup and initial troubleshooting assistance they'd require. I bought a lumia 950xl in Italy in on February 8. I have never met a problem. The phone is fast. Web browsing is smooth. Camera is great. I can tell you lots of positive things. Didn't I have any difficulties? Of course I did. For example, if you are texting, you can't see how many characters left. I can't save people on phone or sim. Maybe I couldn't find them. It is not easy to delete people. It doesn't have a video call option. I think it is the biggest deficiency. My overall opinion is that I like my phone. I used an android phone for 5 years, it may not be used as easy as an android but I don't think I will change my phone for a long time.

I replaced the back cover with more premium Mozo leather and metal back and now I'm a happy panda..:) But I've to agree that Microsoft needs to reduce the price of this phone because very soon HP is gonna release its own Snapdragon 820 powered Windows 10 flagship phone HP Elite X3 which is way more powerful than 950 XL, and if rumors are true it gonna be priced $600. There are lots of Lumia 1520 users who will happily upgrade to that phone instead of 950 XL because it feels closer to 1520, is more powerful, packs more bang for buck and is made by a brand which is almost as dependable as Microsoft. If you are a Corporate buyer then HP throws in special discounts too. Microsoft needs to do something or Lumia series is doomed.

Depends on what is important for you as a user(battery, offline maps, no additional costs of you're runnig a business with more employees and using ms server +excel etc) In general the answer is :no, 950xl is not better. Ios and its devices are setting the trends. Microsoft is following , trying to implement some new features ( eye scan,continuum). As I'm using both devices plus android based edge 6 , iphone with it's support and apps is on the top now. NOW is a relative period of time:-)

I did extensive comparisons of at least 6 flagship smartphones & I was very impressed with the many technical specs of the Microsoft Lumina 950 XL. So far I'm totally happy with my choice. I'm finding the performance in all aspects to be strong, I like being able to expand the memory up to an extra 200 Gb with a micro sim card & if this phone goes the distance, a feature like being able to just replace the battery is really sensible when it shows signs of reduced capacity.

Agree.. I am using the phone as daily driver too and absolutely love the experience. For the size and hardware, it feels perfect in size and weight is awesome (i thank plastic for that while other can complain about it - also not easy to dent like some other "premium" phones. I had lumia 1520 before this one. App gap may not be real but app update is a challenge though as quality of apps is not at par with iOS (I got an iPhone too)

Hey, you can resize the the excel sheet cells, to what ever size you want. Don't be mistaken. I've tried it myself. What you can't do is inserting a ruler. Try placing your finger on the cell you want to resize.

m using my 2nd lumia but first under the Microsoft brand. honestly my experience with all the mokias i've use iI still regard it up there with the best phone maker. still rate the N8 as the best phone hands down. in my second week of using the 950 XL I'm so disappointed I wish all this happened withing my first 7 days as I would have returned it immediately. problem is i had run out of my monthly data bundles. from the 1st of Feb I've found my self charging the phone numerous times like charging is in fashion. I wish I hadn't waited this long for such a f*** of a phone, the phone is always hot which means that there's an app continuously working in the background and I've switched all background apps and the problem hasn't been resolved. Microsoft have failed me. i'm very,very disappointed in this 950XL. i just hope i'm the only one with such an experience

JP windows 10 changes that, I've done jail break on my NL 1520 to Windows 10 and the office document process on W10 is much better than it is on 8.1 but, there's a hickup, the OS is not yet completed, hence theirs some issues I suggest you wait for a while, in the mean time take a moment to go your closest mobile dealer check the phone out, dont buy it outright wait for those software update to make it on the 950xl else have word a few power 950xl users and take a call. Strange part is I also own a Blackberry and I did manage to download Open office on my BB which works perfectly and can store your docs in windows docx format which is cool, the worse part is Microsoft know they suck at their feature list of the office app 95% of the features on older devices and the new version too yet they do nothing to change it. If it wasn't for the camera I would have left the Microsoft stable a few years back.

Microsoft has an infamous history to shelf all their best made products out of the blue. You can look back in the last 10 years you'll see so many awesome products that Microsoft made but, pulled the plug on them for no reason. Ok Sudakar do you know anything about storing backup on your cloud servers? Both Android and Windows offer that except the apps as the formats are quite different. That way I like the Nokia N900 (I still have mine, to this day use it when I wanna hack into itsbitsy stuff like my brother's android phone password.) I'm not a hacker but learning stuff. Coming back to you, I'm not sure if you really own a Windows phone or any today's generation phones anymore. I'll tell you what are the brands I've owned, Blackberry, Windows 5 & 6, Some Android phones for a short time and linux based N900 (still own it ;) :p) and symbian for good half of my growing up days. I have extensively used Windows phone from their hay days, the same goes with Blackberry and Symbian too, Symbian was awesome back in the 90's I can't deny that you had more apps than ever it had short falls too but yeah it was great and offered something that not many phone in those hay days offered only reason being 70% of the market share then was Symbian devices both the low end and the Mid & high end devices. Slowly they lost traction in the market, motorola and Google then came out with Linux and eclair OS motorola failed miserably because Linux wasn't many people's cup of tea the phone did really good in Europ and South East asia the most, what Google offered then was rich Media options and good and very attractive Operating System Interface which Symbian couldn't. Blackberry then was still the King after Nokia and Symbian, they did very well thanks to their good security offerings (True, to this day & the future.) People will change as the product they see visually appeal to them, Android brought some cool softwares that symbian couldn't offer. Windows was good back then but had low battery issues because the bad tft screens consumed most of the battery and so did the processors, they managed to do the job not many manufacturer's then only Motorola (had 4 devices running windows 5 and 6), Samsung (launched 5 devices), HTC (had more devices running windows 5 to 6.1) then came LG. My first Smartphone back in 2000 with a Blackberry and Nokia E61i then moved to Samsung i780 (Still love the phone for some customization that samsung offered.) then moved to N900, then got the Nokia C7 (it froze and had lot of issues sold it and moved.) to windows for good got myself a LG C900 then I got a BB8520 until I moved to 9810 then to Blackberry Q5 and quickly to Q10 (still own it as my daily driver) and now I own a Nokia Lumia 1520, N900 and Blackberry Q10. I can't disagree that Symbian was awesome in its day and age but, unfortunately not many Symbian Developer I knew then wanted to pursue developing on Symbian any more and so it died and everybody forgot about it, for the heck of Nostalgia we still talk about those phones that have gone by once in a while that's it. So Sudakar give way to the new OS your free to give your opinion of the OS but, don't think everybody are fools and they'd believe anything you say.

This is great device. Had it for a week and i have no regrets. Love Office on the go and battery life is seemingly better than my 1520. Can get warm at times under heavy load but this is more of an OS issue than hardware failing to handle the pressure as there are some apps that run a loop even when closed. But this is also rare. If only Microsoft stepped up their marketing though.

As a user of lumia 950 xl am happy with the phone itself (some UI needs polishing but think the OS is headed in right direction). It is really that easy. I'd gotten so comfortable using it that I had forgotten that I was using it instead of my desktop. What I had done was temporarily connected it to my desktops monitor and forgot it until my roommate started to use the the computer and didn't realize he was using my phone instead. I had that phone for like a week. I played a little with that phone and I like it. Then only SMALL problem is that Microsoft have issues with Verizon, they didn;t get an agreement, and Microsoft/Lumia didn't open the band (I guess) to work with Verizon. The only ones affected are the ones we want that phone. I still have 1.5 years to go in my contract with verizon, That's why I bought it from the microsoft store online unlocked. Unfortunatelly I had to return it two weeks after because activate it in Verizon.

No define option. There is an instant email notification but you have to set outlook to download new email "as items arrive" in mailbox sync settings (for every account separately). Of course you can add tables, graphics, flowcharts in documents. I am a long time Windows phone user. I started with the 1020. I have had the Lumia 950 now Since the first day in December. I have just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S6. I have had so many issues with this phone and I'm sick of it. Microsoft Lumia 950/950XL both have 5376*3744 pixel camera within 1/2.4" sensor size which results 1.071 micrometer pixel size. 1/1.12 micrometer is wrong & Microsoft is lying about it, even it's not a 16:9 sensor that is mentioned in Microsoft's website. From your response it has been proved that you cannot take offline backup of all the apps individually which creates the setup files in the backup folder. The only way to do offline backup and restore is via PC (pc suite). I am waiting for Microsoft to remove this limitation. What about the resolution setting in the camera option?. Stop posting senseless about virus infected apps in google playstore. Even the internet has virus. Only you must use common sense and paid antivirus to safeguard your phone and laptop / PC. There is no point in blaming google playstore for it. Stil Symbian (only the installed apps in the phone memory) and android have the option to download the setup file of each app. They do provide option to take offline backup of the SMS, phone / app settings into the memory card*. * means - starting from android 4.4 and 4.4.x, the backup of the installed apps (apk files) can be configured to store only in the phone memory (via 3rd party app). The backed up folder can be moved to the memory card later using the in built default file browsing app. This is because google has blocked all third party apps to store their data directly in the memory card since the android 4.4 and 4.4.x version. I will not take such large videos greater than 2 GB in 808 and N8. Even if I have to take, I will record a dummy video for 1 minute in 720p and 1080p seperately and check the file size. Then only I will proceed for long duration recording. I think Nokia will be back this year. Check out the news section of this site. So 1) offline app and settings backup, 2) camera resolution options, 3) inability to download the setup file for each windows app are the major disadvantages in all windows phones. Lets see if Microsoft and Nokia comes with a solution for this.

There are limitations in windows phones of inability to take offline backup of all the installed apps to the memory card. You cannot download the setup file of the apps seperately. These 2 are the major disadvantages in windows phones in addition to the unavailability of resolution options (not one or two) in both the photo and video options under the in built default camera app. Have heart to accept the failures of windows phones. I like the camera clarity of carl zeiss lens based Nokia and Microsoft lumias. But they (only windows phones) are limited with only 2 resolution options in the camera setting including 950 xl. But there are many resolution choices for video shooting in lumia 950 xl. There must be option to shoot 480p, 720p (25 and 30 fps), 1080p (25 and 30 fps) and 1440p videos & 2 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 13 MP, 17 MP in the rear camera option. I am not against lumia. It depends from what. If you have a low end / mid range Android phone than you should switch to WP. As a person who can't afford a flagship, every Android phone I ever had became useless within 2-3 months, and even my S3 became useless after a year (barely opened email, battery lasts an hour). So if you buy a good and wish to keep it for a long time than you should also buy a WP. WP is the best OS, but lacks apps. Microsoft said it will make porting apps from Android very easy. If developers do port their apps, than everyone should buy a WP, except for iOS users, who won't like Lumia phones because they aren't made of gold.

Read my point properly. Nokia 808 is one of the best camera phone with maximum resolution which is not found in any smartphone till now. We cannot take backup of all the installed apps (in the windows phone) to the memory card. Just like app backup and restore app in Android. There is only 2 resolution settings in the camera interface of 950 xl. But for videos, there are many resolutions like 1280x720 each at 25 and 30 fps seperately, 1920x1080 each at 25 and 30 fps seperately etc.

Ok, so I will educate all you windows users. The lumia 950XL is NOT a problem phone. It does NOT overheat to fry eggs on it and the battery does NOT last 2-3 hours. With light use your phone should be at 85% at 6:00pm. Now, I am 2 weeks into using my 950XL, only had two restarts and everything is stable, no crashes. Maybe because I know how to handle a windows phone? Not sure. First off, the instant you get your phone, you turn it on and look for updates after you set it up (entering your Microsoft account/email). Make sure all apps are up to date BEFORE you look for phone updates. This prevents the phone from crashing with too many updates trying to be installed and downloaded at once. After everything is up to date you will be fine. Now, if there are problems, it could be dependent on the model....report your issue to Microsoft. Let them know. I am using the single sim variant and I have NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER!!!!!! I have had three updates for my device since I got it......wow three updates in under two weeks. Two of which are mentioned on this site and another which I can't find anywhere and is sort of anonymous since I have no idea what changed and it was done while I was asleep. Don't hate something that is evolving. Of all the lumias I have had the pleasure of using, this one (950XL) is the best so far.

I use 950XLfor 2 weeks now and rather disappointed compared to Lumia 930 I had before. The phone is slower there are frequent hang ups, the battery endurance is a joke (2-3hrs) and you can fry eggs on the back of the phone when in use. So I needed a new phone but I want to continue the beautiful Windows Phone experience, so I bought the Lumia 950 XL, and it was a big mistake. The least you can say about Windows Mobile 10 is that it is a stupid product. It is not the bugs, but the good things they removed and the stupid things they added (or as they said “enhanced”). For example, I connect to multiple emails: Hotmail, Live, Gmail, and my business email. When you receive an email in Windows 8.1, the notification center tells you that you received an email in this inbox (Gmail for example). Unfortunately, in Windows 10 the notification center just says “Outlook Mail”. You don’t know this email you received is in which inbox. This might not be important to some users, but I am sure it is very important to many, including me. This is just one thing I mentioned in the OS, you will see many annoying things if you use it as your main phone. One of the things that made me buy this phone is what I read about its great camera. But when I used it, it is really bad. It is a camera they borrowed from a 2000 model. It is not good at all. It has pixilated photos, and wavy videos. I am very, very disappointed. And frankly I don’t advice any one to purchase this phone. One more thing, did you try Bing Sport and MS Official Facebook App on Windows Mobile 10? Microsoft is a software company, so how on earth they release such applications for their own OS/Hardware? To know the difference, just use them on Windows 10 Mobile and on Windows 8.1 Mobile and see the difference. I am a big fan of Windows OS in general. I started using Windows Mobile in 2004, but this Windows 10 and Lumia 950 XL was a really bad choice. I should have waited until the next phone.

I tried calling my friend (from my LG G3 D855) who uses whatsapp and hike in Nokia lumia 735 (green colour). It said : voice calling is not available for this user. Voice calling worked for all android to android VoIP calls via whatsapp, hike, viber, nimbuzz etc. I am not against Lumia phones. I like carl zeiss lens, OIS etc. I am only against the phones with non user replaceable battery, without memory card slot, limited OS features etc. Ok?. I am the proud owner of Nokias 1280, 5320, N79, N8 and 808. I love the Nokia Symbian's best battery backup phones. I hope even Nokia / Microsoft windows phones rock in battery life.

Dude u can share all the video in ur windows phone via WhatsApp..using file explorer app.. Its pretty good than android phones file manager apps.. Also there is no limits in sharing marked photos via WhatsApp using this file explorer.. 1020 was running with wp 8.. But 950xl running with windows 10 .way different.. Am using lumia 520 for the last 3 yr..now upgrade to w 10. Works fine on ma 512 mb ram device..

I agree perez5. I love windows phone and is a diehard Lumia now Microsoft fan. I have had windows phone starting from Lumia 900 until I am now at 1520, to upgrade to the 950XL shortly. You can do lots of stuff with whatsapp on window. You can certainly go to gallery and then share a photo to whatsapp, so I don't know what that guy is talking about. I have also own a Note Edge which is android and I would certainly not give up my windows phone for android. they both have their pluses and minuses. Frankly android security system could be better than it is. I find that windows do have a lot of apps and I like that there is an app that suggests best apps for windows on your lumia phone.

I noticed that after signing up for the insider, I had an update that kept failing causing it to continuously download over and over, burning up the battery pretty quick. Once I backed out, the problem went away. If your seeing your battery get consumed, really look over the phone and see what activity is going on. BTW, the update was failing, because I have the international single sim version, and the update was meant for the US Dual sim edition.

I am getting my new phone next month and am considering either this phone or Note 5. I have use Lumia 1020 before. The camera quality was superb! I love the fact that i can do lots of post editing after the shot. Like cropping without loosing details thanks to the huge sensor. But the shot to shot time really turn me off. To me, i do not use much app even when i was using android phone (S3). I was able to find the essential apps like Facebook, Whatsapp and YouTube in windows store. But during my time with 1020, all these apps have many limitations compare to their android version. Such as Whatsapp was unable to share video from the gallery and YouTube and Facebook was really slow. And for Whatsapp you can only share photo by accessing it via whatsapp only. What i mean is, you cannot go to photo gallery and choose photo to share via whatsapp. But later on Whatsapp did come up with enhancement that i can finally share video. Another thing i don't like about 1020 was the keypad. I can type really fast when using android phone (S3 before 1020 and Note 3 after 1020). I am not sure if this is Android feature or Samsung UI feature. The keypad recognize the whole sentence i use often and suggest the same sentence the next time i type the first word. My 1020 just don't do that. Even the word suggestion was like crap. But i am still very tempted to get 950 XL. It have micro SD card slot and the camera is awesome. I hope the shot by shot timing improve in this one. My only headache is the keypad word suggestion... i hope they have improve it since i really type a lot.

You should realize one thing first. Microsoft can't improve the store, because the apps aren't written by Microsoft. If Microsoft write an app, it's not official app. On that matter, no, there's no Official app for Facebook, because Facebook didn't wrote one, you have one written by Microsoft that I have to say looks almost like the official app on iOS and Android (more the Android one), and is by far better than the one on Windows 8.1. You'll NEVER be able to use Android/iOS apps directly..... Project Astoria and don't remember the name of the project for iOS apps translate THE UNCOMPILED CODE of an already written for iOS/Android app so it can be included in the Windows Store, and that has to be done by THE PROGRAMER who wrote the program, it's not a virtual machine that will make your phone work like crap and make you switch to Android/iOS to use the app natively. If you ask if there's official app for YouTube or any other Google service, the answer is no. If you ask "Why?", the answer is "Ask Google, not Microsoft, they are the once supposed to write those apps, other wise they won't be official". If you ask why Microsoft don't write proper app like they do for Facebook, the answer is, because Google wants the YouTube app to work in HTML5, HOWEVER the app for iOS and Android doesn't work in HTML5, it still uses Flash, and if Google are to write app according to their own demands, that means that Google has to write an app for opposing platform, with features that the app for their own platform doesn't have. Besides, Microsoft showed some dirty Google shirts some time ago and Google aren't very happy with that.

Windows is unfinished and cannot compete with the IOS or Android flagships. Everyone who says different has not used (like for a few months, not for 10 seconds i na a shop) not any other flagship than WP. I used windows for like 4 years with 4 different phones and it was always lagging behind. The last I got was a 930 and first was the purple tint display issue, internet explorer is the worst browser in history of mankind, the apps just arent good enough,the battery life sucked always, with the 950 its even worse. Facebook, whatsapp, viber, skype, twitter, the internet in global are years behind on windows. My galaxy edge plus eats these 950 and xl anytime a day. These phones are just good cameraphones, nothing more. All the microsoft apps work better on my android than they did on WP, there is no single reason for me to go to a store and pick up an microsoft phone.

I will share my experience with different windows phones, and how they are different from iPhones and android phones. I am a power smartphone user and a proud owner of iPhone 6s and Nokia Lumia 1520. I love them both for different reasons. I have also used Android flagship phones quite a lot. It is very important to know about the windows OS itself before buying the phone. There are many windows phone with very low specifications, which make them quite slow and cheap. Some people might judge the flagship windows phones after using a $120 windows phone. My first windows phone was a Lumia 928. (It is a Verizon equivalent to Lumia 920, so the specs are the same.) I was using iPhone 5s at the moment. I wanted to see what the OS had to offer. It was running windows 8. To be frank, I did not like it very much. The OS was not smooth; there was a learning curve for being more productive on windows 8. The apps looked very old and slow. The camera was not very consistent like iPhone 5s. The display and camera were the biggest turn off for me. So after a few weeks, I sold it back. Then I got the beast – Lumia 1020. Of course, it has the best smartphone camera I have ever used till today, but windows 8 and the display were two of the biggest turn offs for me. I am a photography hobbyist and like to tweak the photos a little and post them on Flickr, but windows app store was missing a good Flickr app. I also did not like the display that much. Other than the camera, the phone felt exactly the same as the Lumia 928. It was not getting the 8.1 update at the time, which resulted me giving it away. I had decided not to go back to windows phones; it was until I met Lumia 1520. I was using iPhone 6 at the time. The windows 8.1 was much smoother and more polished. Boy did I love the display! It was huge in hands and the OS felt very intuitive on its big screen size. I fell in love with the phone, and I gave it a shot. I was not been disappointed a bit. You will either love or hate the OS after switching from iOS or android. It may not be as snappy as iOS but very intuitive. The camera on Lumia 1520 is 2 years old, yet it is still one of the best today. Even though, it is not very consistent in different conditions. I have been using it for quite a time now and love it because of its gorgeous display, windows 8.1 on the big screen and great camera. Initially, you may not like the phone, because apps are not of the iPhone quality, and everything will feel slower and different. But, after the learning curve you will love the OS. There are alternative third party apps for almost all major apps in the app store. They are not of great quality, but they will get the work done for you most of the time. Yes, lack of apps is the biggest problem for windows phones, but it still delivers one of the best smartphone experiences aboard. As a power user, I would say, I can easily survive with Lumia 1520. Yes there are some apps missing, but there are plenty of alternatives. The experience may not be as smooth, but believe me you will forget the gap in a matter of few weeks. I went to the MS store the other day and had my hands on the Lumia 950 Xl. I spent an hour checking the OS and camera. Windows 10 has gotten much more mature and everything looked great. I would still try it as my daily driver as a smartphone fan if I were in the market for a new phone. To conclude, any MS fan would buy Lumia 950 XL with their eyes closed, because it offers windows great UI with a style that no one can match.

First things first: 1 you don't have to write e-mail 1 2 or whatever your fairytail tales cause i always know what mail i'm using just by looking at the upper corner of the screen. Whatsapp is not wierd, is in fact, verry well integrated with widnows phone, you can't expect to have that ugly android interface on a windows phone, now do you? Third: Lack of apps is subjective as always: There are apps that miss from the store as there are apps with another interface (which is normal, all apps in windows store should use wp design language and not android one, your expectations are pointless, weaked, biased, lazy and dumb). Last (but just cause i don' remember all the fairytale about how pointless some people are) is that 950xl could not be used for the last 3 mounths cause only about 1 and a half started to ship to the pre-orders. I am going to tell you a true opinion regarding Windows phone. And I know that only android user can understand my pain. So I am starting with app. There are shortage of apps in Windows store. You can't find useful app as in Play store (Android store). Always email update is required. WhatsApp is not like real WhatsApp as in android. Its appearance is so odd. Android user can see the differences of WhatsApp. If you want to do new in this phone it means you have to learn a lot and practice much. This phone is not user friendly as like android phones. You can't keep backup of apps as in android it's very common feature. Hindi input keyboard is complicated. Appearance of many apps is not good such as emails if you add more than two gmails you can't identify the address of email. You have to remember like email 1, email 2,email 3. Battery backup is same as android phone. Some users say battery backup is good but it's not true. There are a lot of cons of this phone. I really suggest you don't buy windows phone ever. Only some features like offline map, compass is good. Its lock screen, tiles and call screen are good. Camera is quite good. If anybody is saying that Windows phone is good, it means he or she doesn't use Android phone. That's why he or she doesn't know the real drawbacks of Windows phone. My best wishes is with you. This one is helluva of computer in smartphone format. Faster (substantially) than any of latest Apple/Andro devices. This can be game changer for Windows Phone family if Microsoft starts to support applications for banks, transportation and other business related stuff. It is stupid that some banks do not have apps for WP, just because less than 5 % of their clients use WP. Microsoft should subsidise for a while such stuff. Other than that, hardware wise this is perfect machine, absolutely. Nothing close. Software (Win10) is almost there, as well and they work hard on fast updates. I see machine growing daily. Some criticism about design is stupid. It looks clean adn funtcional above all. Nokia traces are there and we loved Nokia for that (RIP). All in all, whoever didn't try makes mistake. I have used fully functional 6S and 6P in order to decide for next machine. 950XL killed them both on many aspects.

I just bought it as well and will return it in a few days. The same issues as with previous windows phone (I was hoping that they would be gone ). On many Web pages the following issues: - screen jumping -text overlay an image and vice verse -text doesn't fit display parameters -pages freeze during scrolling -text/image disapear and appear back during scrolling, even after the page is fully loaded So either you are not paying attention to these typical windows phone issues or you never used the latest top hardware android phones (otherwise you would have see the difference ) that don't have any of these issues at all.

in Windows Phone's there's no need for LED when you have Glance Screen, Glance screens allow the phone to display (without back lighting) the time and basic notifications. Very happy with my first 8 days using the 950 XL. Excelent camera, very fast device, outstanding screen. Some normal little problems with the new windows 10 mobile, but nothing that can´t be solved i suppose. Actually the new OS has great improvements. New native apps that allows to handle most of regular usage with inproved UI. The app store seems to be growing due to universal platform (still is the main disadvantage). The back cover is very low quality, i´m watching for alternatives since it can be replaceded, instead of covered with a bulky one over it. Continium is a great experience even if i'm not shure to be using it so often. Not going back to Android or iOS.

That's as incorrect as it can be. The overheating problems with the snapdragon 810 is related to a bug in the design of the chip. This bug has been fixed in the latest revision of the chip (read on wiki), the liquid cooling is only to distribute the heat evenly, to prevent "hot spots" on the phone. So, the overheat problem is solved by the snapdragon manufactor, and is history!, not By Microsoft "just adding more cooling" to the phone. And the 950 do "NOT" have liquid cooling!!!

Liquid cooling is working, it seems. This phone only gets warm, doesn't get hot. It has single hand mode when you hold down the Windows button. Pretty cool. Skype and even Groupme's group are built into the Messaging app. Continuum mode works great.

I will never ever buy an iPhone. There is a history of my user name. Back in 2000 when I bought my first computer, I was asked in some forum for username. If you were on 8.1, all apps may not work, especially the HERE apps ( formerly nokia ) but MS does have equivalent apps. unlike apple where backup and restore just works, MS backup and restore did not work for apps very well ( from 8.1 to 10 atleast , lost whatsapp chats etc). as far as the rest , everything is great edge browser is much better than IE . the win 10 UI is a lot crisper , videos and camera are great. removable battery and micro sd card are excellent ( decent battery and option for custom battery and covers). fast charging !! windows hello ( beta ) works well , click a button, stare at phone and voila !! youre in! free continuum port to connect to pc ( if you buy phone outright but ships only after you 'use' the phone, still havent got it so dunno how it is ).

So much of what you put is complete BS and shows how little time you put in to learning how to use the device or researching any of the problems you say you came across. From the reviews I've read (and I've read many whilst waiting for my phone to arrive) the middle button is a none issue and take "minutes" to get used to. as for your email problems the latest update of outlook on wp10 allows you to link all your mail boxes to create that unified experience you want. no one uses the light theme, the dark is so much better.. Here maps was zapped from the store, but will be republished soon according to the devs. oh dear your on screen button disappeared, did you try swiping up from the bottom to make them reappear? infared is not a common feature anymore on phones, also its much easier to pick up the remote than to fiddle with your phone (unless you like changing the channel on the pub TV) wifi does not connect when the phone sleeps, and if you had only just setup your phone it would have gotten a little warm due to downloading updates in the background. finding quiet hours is as easy as opening Cortana > Notebook > Quiet hours or swiping down on the screen > click expand on the action center and you will see the quiet hours toggle, a simple long press would take you straight to the configuration page. so not buried at all. again I think you just didn't want to take the time to learn the device and just dismissed your ignorance of the new OS as it being a poor handset.

LUMIA 1020 is the best camera phone right now, but it is old, super slow and out of date !!! I do have windows 10 installed on my 1020 lumia it is very, very bad .. I recomend you to buy Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

To all those complaining about the 950xl not having an SD card slot... It does have one! It also has a replaceable battery. Both are rarities nowadays, so kudos to Microsoft for sticking to those features.

Well you're right. So you agree with me and i agree with you. Apple is just and expensive piece of something bloating, dark brown and smells like rotten food :) If i want and expensive phone i rather buy Vertu brand than Apple.

I started with ios - was a total disappointment, every time jailbreak if I wanted some "special" things. I got into Android, it was good , but rooting was also necessary and it got boring for me... The older WP editions were crazy I know...but maybe win 10 will be gooood :)

shape is good, specifications are good, price is higher, operating system is bad (when it comes to trying different rom every week for me).
