Motorola A1800 - User Reviews

  • WHY is this user manual NOT in ENGLISH so I can download it? Mine was destroyed, and I have spent the better part of the day trying to find user manual in ENGLISH, so I can permanently ERASE all 19 of my recordings! Someone please help???

  • Is anyone from the United Stated using this phone because I inserted my SIM Card in this phone and could not get a signal. It reads no service when I attempt to make a call and the signal icon on the upper status/icon bar shows a red/circle with line crossed-out. I opened the manual and on Page 16, second aragraph it reads; To make and receive calls you must be in an area where GSM 900 or 1800 service is available..... I don't know if any of the Major Cellular Companies(ATT, T-Mobile - GSM 1900mhz and etc) in the US even run on these GSM Frequencies...

  • A stylus?? seriously?? a stylus???

  • Crap phone. I dont see any kind of progress from the A1200 ( ming ) to this model expect for marginal upgrades. No wonder Moto went down to the dogs. If the company is alive today, it's because of Android.

  • I heard, Mono headset works with A1800 for a music!! Motorola seems to have tried making lots of efforts in this mobile to make useful one, but the CPU speed sucks!

  • The phone has different opration dealing with dual mode. I could switch between CDMA and GSM calls but I could not outside China

  • While the features are not bad, the performance of the features are quite disappointing. 1.camera too slow often out of focus macro mode for cards very sensitive - the A1200 was better. 2.reading the memory card also very slow, I tried many cards and compared to my older A1200. 3. sound not as clear as the A1200. 4. GPS system very difficult to use, while phone is chinese and english the GPS Navito s/w is found wanting. the hardware is slow. 5. I don't find solid support for this phone - disk supplied had incorrect drivers, no support for MAC OS that actually works. 6. Motorola won't support this phone fully. Motorola China is "supposed" to support this phone. I got no response. 7. handwriting recocnition average. summary this phone is under powered while packed full of "features" none of them work smoothly or satifactorily, there is little support, actually I feel it really is a Motorola phone, I've bought four generations of A series PDA phones starting with A6188, I'll wont be buyig motorola in near future until the China design house change their attitude to customer.

  • this phone is not very very good but i think it is very cool

  • This fone is very very nice.i like it.

  • very nice

  • why gsmarena doesnt talk abount number of sims a mobile can support?

  • Does this phone support 3G ?

  • No Wi-Fi, Motorola you are going DOWN! I hope they will make a phone for 2010 with 8MP camera, at least 600MHZ CPU with Symbian or Linux, 3.5 inch WVGA screen, and WI-FI ofcourse! I don't know what happened to Moto, they were good.

  • i put my memory card on this phone but i didnt see all my music and images

  • my photo meassage is not working but i like this phone

  • this phone is very/so ugly. The A1200 is way better, although it's an older model. DO NOT PURCHASE, PLEASE.

  • The only problem is WLAN :( !!!

  • Kindly share with us which phones support BOTH CDMA and GSM costing less than USD$500....before you complain about buying shares of any company.

  • i had this phone and it almost made me go crazy. i used my sim card from my nokia on this phone and when i took it out and put it back to my nokia phone again, everything disappeared.

  • what system with that phone? are they serious bout the price.... for me i just want pay the phone but not to buy a share to their company..

  • were can buy please.

  • According to Moto's own online store in mainland China, the price "is still" around US$800... Just my own speculation, this phone is only available in mainland China, with mainland China being one of the few places around the world which uses SIM card for CDMA system. So for most who only run on GSM frequency would NOT likely to spend such $ for such a phone...where A1600 costs some 60% less with comparable features...and the 60% premium goes to the CDMA capability which most can't utilize.

  • Do you know the recent price in RMB? If u r an user of this phone; what is ur opinion? And surprisingly, why Motorola or others like GSM Arena didnt disclose that it's available for last couple of months!! Thanks.

  • Because the phone HAS BEEN available in mainland China since Sept/Oct 2008... However, seems like as long as the phone is not "officially" available in Europe, the status would remain...

  • Suggest you take the phone to Chinatown or anyone who can read Chinese, and here is the path: Setup -> Input Setup -> First Language -> English

  • Why A1800(MOTOROLA), has been long time in Coming soon situation?!!

  • Motorola A1800, is wonderful Model. I hope Motorola company design some models like A1800 with higher quality of camera. Unfortunately, it`s a long time that this model is in Coming soon situation!!!

  • The phone is tight and cool. i love it but it would have been more if it had 3g and wpan

  • Can the display be set to English only? If so, wher can I get one?

  • very nice

  • plz uncle send more pictres

  • A1800 supports 2 slots, one for CDMA and one for GSM. You "cannot" put 2 GSM cards in the phone and expect both lines work at the same time.

  • order online, or ebay.com...they send to u probably a week..maybe they include the shipping and handling

  • volume speaker is real loud and good. MP3, not sure... picture u can take it backward. it's good

  • is a1800 dual sim card ??? anyone know ??

  • hi 100 moto hi guys anyone know about review this phone how about camera qulity volume soeaker are loud or no and mp3 pleayer is good or no and menu are fast or slow ? thancks

  • you can go to Africa behind the lion you will found one there waiting for you < smart >

  • i neet a english manual for my motorola A 1800

  • Where can I get one of those in the gold please?

  • Where did you buy your phone? You should take the phone back to your local Moto service center.

  • I have this cell phone and it only worked for 6 months...it died on me and I have no idea why....something about the battery trickle???

  • not bad

  • i want to buy motorola 1800

  • Unfortunately, mainland China is about the only place I know is selling this phone officially...as not too many other places around the world need both GSM & CDMA...and hand writing recognition (in Chinese)

  • I am in Taiwan how can i buy this phone please

  • 2008 left and not finish to build.

  • Yeah, the almighty brand is so much ahead in technology with LACK of Crystal Talk, LACK of any touchscreen device with the size of A1800, LACK of any phone supporting both GSM & CDMA...

  • hi i put a voice print on my A1800 and when i turn off my phone and put it back on its tellin me to press vr key, wait for beep than say a password ,when i do it it tell me oh oh! why is this i don't no about this phone to well....some camone plz me i can get into my phone now!

  • i think its nice to find a sell phone which have this options but english only

  • i bought A1800 last week . this is the best phone. . ., good camera . very nice design . good battery support . very very beautfull. it is the best. thank you motorola . . .

  • A1800 supports dual card slot, one of which is designed for CDMA cards, which one probably can't even get in US (or Hong Kong or many other CDMA supported places around the world). I don't have A1800, though I doubt the CDMA slot actually supports another GSM SIM. Anyway, even if the extra slot supports GSM card, is it worth another US$200? (the premium of A1800 over A1600) Sorry, not for me.

  • But A1800 is Dual Simcard which A1600 is not.

  • A1800 Really a good phone and A1200 Find good milege Step by step like A1200 then A1600 and now A1800.

  • For differences between GSM & CDMA, especially the technical aspects, suggest you go to Wikipedia. Generally speaking, CDMA is a totally different network away from GSM. Most countries around the world now support GSM networks, EXCLUDING Japan and Korea. Most countries run on the GSM900/1800 frequency, with execptions in many countries in the American region, which runs on GSM 850/1900 frequency. My understanding is the following countries have CDMA networks. US/Canada Japan Korea Hong Kong (for romaing only) Taiwan (not sure folded up or not) So if your country (or the country you often travel to) does not have any CDMA network, there is little to no reason why you should pay US$200 more over an A1600 for an A1800.

  • may i ask what is the difference between CDMA and GSM? i am from philippines and i am planning to but one here. ----tnx!

  • This phone has been available in mainland China since August.

  • A1800 is CDMA and GSM, A1600 is only GSM. The A1600 will do everything that the A1800 will do (excluding CDMA) plus a few more features that the A1800 won't do. Buy the A1600 unless you need CDMA in your phone!

  • its Ming with ying yang means it got 2 sim slots and it supports GSM as well as CDMA technology the perfect balanced phone for INDIA n GPS is a bonus

  • Can anyone clearly state the difference between a1600 and the a1800.

  • hi i m using a nokia 5610-d1 which is compitable to ur requiremant so go and use that

  • Sorry, I don't have A1800, though with my A1600, you can try 1)Play the song 2)Go to menu 3)Select "Use Bluetooth" 4)Search for the other device 5)Send

  • hey I have the a1800 and i am unable to sent or receive texts and i also am not able to send songs via bluetooth. Can anyone assist me with this problem?

  • Actually I don't consider A1800 is the successor of A1200, especially the "Opening Price Point"... A1800, which also supports CDMA, is being sold for about USD$800 (Yike!) in PRC. Meanwhile, A1600, which adds a better cam, GPS, AGPS, more external memory, is being sold for USD$395 in Hong Kong, which is closely to A1200, which was sold for about USD$421 when A1200 was first launched. I still have my A1000 in my "collection", which actually still works. (the only problem is the old type of charger plug, which isn't very stable) I feel proud of my A1000, because it took the almighty brand almost 4 years to come out with its own 3G touchscreen device.

  • hi, possibly this will answer some of your questions: Motorola M1000 (Foma) exclusively present in Japan for DoCoMo GSM provider and it was a successor of Motorola A1000 - botth A1000 and M1000 run Symbian OS - not linux - these two models are comparably old announced 4 years back or so. The major difference between these two is that M1000 incorporates WiFi while A1000 has no wireless. Motorola A1800 is the successor of Motorola A1200 Ming (first announced and mostly present in mainland China) - both run heavily customized linux platform (EZX). Hope that helps.

  • Few comments: 1)A1200 released in Japan? Either you got the wrong model number (I heard M1000 was the one that released in Japan, being the successor of A1000 that runs on 3G), or wrong place (A1200 sold like hot cakes in mainland China, as Japan does "not" run on any GSM frequency except WCDMA GSM2100. 2)Moto is still trying to make a 3G phone with its favorite Linux platform. 3)Moto still focuses on GSM markets which "do not" run on the 3G frequency being used in Europe...being mainland China and US. Both countries contribute lots of sales for Moto in terms of global business. Don't get me wrong, I make my mom to use 3G for v-call, though my in-laws have absolutely no idea about 3G...or will they switch to 3G anytime soon.

  • Wow this looks like a superb follow up to the A1000, hopefully they launch this on '3' (unlike the A1200 which was only available in Japan :( ) although looking at the specs as it has no to 3G that is a severe limitation. Surely that is a mistake in the specs as everyone is developing 3G phones now, 2G finished at least 2 years ago (I actually was one of the first in the UK to convert to 3G with an A920)

  • The major selling point (worth over USD$120?) of A1800 is its CDMA and GSM dual capability. If you don't need CDMA, you probably need to look at A1600 instead.

  • i've had the a1200 for over a year now. very nice phone. no complaints what so ever! Reception is great on it. i wonder if a1800 will be the same? in the pics, a1200 looks better than a1800

  • Motorola is a good phone but they should change the models, they dont have range between 3500-5500, First of all change Abishek Bachan and bring Akshay Kumar "Singh is King".

  • Do you know of any device from the major brands which supports both GSM & CDMA costing less than A1800? Kindly share with us.

  • selling for RMB5288 is very poor value for money. Most phones with that price range have great features. WiFi 11b/g, 3G should be standard features these days. This phone is destined to fail in market.

  • Y 3G not in this unit

  • This is a PDA but how come no WLAN? Or this is only a GPS receiver with a bulit-in phone.

  • FYI, China has launched its own 3G TD-SCDMA system months ago, and some sources indicated development of WCDMA in China will be further delayed to ensure TD-SCDMA is widely accepted. In the meantime, chances are Moto won't be focusing too much on 3G handsets for the moment, even though it recently released the I800t, a TD-SCDMA phone which looks a bit like E8 (minus the omega wheel, of course)

  • Have to keep in mind this is for China. They barely have 3G even deployed, and probably they won't miss the WLAN. Us in the USA on the other hand, badly wanted those features. While I could live without the WLAN, I wish the A1200 would announce the caller's name, and hope they added that.

  • is motorola serious

  • whats wrong with motorola? no WLAN?

  • Call me naive, which phone back in 1998 had such compact design with touch screen and a transparent flip?

  • WOW is motorola really still designing these phones??? motorola, i am sorry having to tell you this way but we are in 2008 now not 1998

  • This phone is really great, lots better than A1200 and has got GPS, but probably will not in Europe so i will have to but from china ;/ Greetings for all motorola fans!!

  • this is the coolest phone i ever had in my life,

  • man i thought this phone was kool because my freind has it. all though he doesnt look to happy i thought he liked it but i guess he doesnt. wow no g3 nor wifi well i aint buying that fone from him no more!!!!!

  • motorola a 1200 is a good phone and i am waiting for this product in india

  • Dude, without the Chinese people as potential customers, this phone would not even exist. I used to hate products made in China, though compare to others like Vietnam, Chinese products are far superior, especially with foreign companies' quality control. Moto did make a HUGE mistake by manufacturing low-end phones in Vietnam for its C35x series...which damaged its reputation in many markets in Asia. I wonder if you can totally boycott all products made in China nowadays.

  • i have been waiting for a dual sim (cdma/gsm)phone.. the cdma call rate is dirt cheap 30 paise/min for other/gsm network.. local tata to tata is free but this is a chiness phone.. i beleive that this will be a disposal phone just like all of those chiness product.. can some one suggest me a dual sim phone which is non chiness made ... need help..

  • Man, r u wrkng in Hello Moto. For urs kind Info. from the market point of view A1200 performance is really bad. Most of urs kings complaning of dismal sound clariy, too much scraches on the upper display which looks clumsy ,every time u have to take one extra battery still result is no satisfactory lastly but not the least software is really incredible ados like hanging ,automatically switched off etc r normal .

  • so r u saying that you would keep the 1200 over the 1800?

  • perfect =d

  • Forget CDMA, add WiFi & 3G and I would buy this 10 times. I currently have the A1200 no way I would give it for this.

  • no g3?! no wi-fi?? what a shame.

  • Are you kidding me...i have a1200 and it is a fantastic phone so why the hell would i upgrade to this? 3m camera...umm no thanks. What is it that makes this phone superior to the a1200?...no wifi!!!...this phone would have been great 5 years ago but with todays competition this does not have a chance. Put wifi in it and i will gladly buy it.

  • NO wifi!!! not good 4 me weak phone i loved MOTO

  • very good! cdma/gsm + 3mp camera + gps!

  • To GSM Arena: this phone is actually "available" in China for about USD$700

  • this must be wrong so edge no 3g or wifi something dont smell right

  • hahaha moto the joke is always on you. shame, shame. i guess you're just going to learn your lesson the hard way. i mean, just go away already. a 5-year old palm can do a better job than this piece of so-called "technology".

  • seriously, I thought that image is a flashback about a handset from 10 years ago!

  • wake up motorola.. its time for some serious business.. wts dis?? no 3G no wifi?? why do u even design such fones?

  • but most of the asian countries have CDMA and others GSM

  • but mos of the contries of asia have cdma

  • Should be opposite as most countries are GSM only ;)

  • it would be the best phone for Bangladesh where we have both type of network.GSM and CDMA.

  • it be usseful for people who wants to go to countries who have cdma and back to her/ him country who haves gsm

  • first

  • GSM and CDMA? Awesome! Rarely we see a product of this type from a branded manufacturer. Anyway, it's useful only for a few countries where GSM and CDMA live together.
