this phone served me well since 2012. back then the atrix was unheard, unknown in our country where samsung and sony were very popular to the masses - very common infact almost every person were using samsung and sony. or iphone (no sarcasm intended) but the atrix let me felt one of a kind :3 almost everyone caught their attention everytime i dock it on my lapdock, back then it was ingenious! but the experience are not quite there yet. this phone should be running on a quad core chip and 2gb of ram.. but hey, this phone is among the first dual core phone where the others were still single core 512ram. x) and as im moving forward to a new device, i intended to keep this phone like a treasure. i just flashed the old blur version gingerbread and you know what? it felts so good to return to my old rom with ubuntu as webtop just like the good old days. infact im typing this post right now on firefox 8.0 browser. :)

Thank you so much for clarifying the SOD issue with the 4.5.145 unlocked bootloader. You are absolutely correct about the RSD lite "switching phone to BP pass through mode" error. Unfortunately the motorola software updater does not download the stock 4.5.145 sbf anymore! I really need to fix my Atrix 4G, Any suggestions?

What a device.. got it yesterday.. i have used nexus 4 and many other device's.. but Atrix being nearly 3 years old, can hold good even today.. i have a doubt.. is there anyway to play asphalt 8 in medium or high graphic mode. i have installed asphalt 8, nfs hot pursuit, most wanted, riptide GP 2, subway surfers and got shift in it after upgrading to 2.3.4 using RSD lite.. very good performance by Atrix..

I've the same problem . remove sim and sd card . after push at the same time power button and vol down until appear "fastboot" on top of the screen. with vol- select "boot Android (NO BP)" . now you have to put your atrix on charge and after push Vol+ and vol- at the same time and your phone restart normaly. Wait until the battery is full charge and after you can put the sim and sd card. It's probably an hardware problem and this advice not fix it. But for a few period you can use your phone. (if it dont work you have to reset the phone at factory settings)

it becomes hot because of the heavy Nvidia graphic card so its v.common in all nvidia phones. but if u like to play games continuously on it, its best to use it in a warm or a cool temperature room or give it some break after an hour or so.

i use my motorola atrix 4g but it just switch off if i spend some time on internet, the temperature becomes high, the battery will be hot. what could be the reason. when you want to switch it on you have to first remove the battery and then switch it on. sometime it writes cooling mode on the screen. any help pliz.

You can play most games if your in gingerbread / CM7 ...but ICS and JB kernels are a bit experimental or still underdevelopment ...but .. i am able to play games like modernwar fifa and temple run in superlite for atrix thats JB 4.1.2...as you know the phone is old but still got some muscle left dual core plus nvidia tegra 2 :)

@ kalimouna The S3, if you break the Digitizer (front glass) chances are you will break the LCD as it is attached (glued) to the front glass. This will be a minimum $85.00 part to replace. The Atrix 4G's LCD is not glued to the front glass, and the glass is only a $15.00 part to replace. Sooo, when it comes to replacement parts, Samsung, LG and HTC cost the most to repair. This also is true for internal components.

I've installed the custom Beanstalk 4.2.3 from XDA Dev, the only thing that wasn't working for me was the camera, wifi worked without any problem and it was very stable. Because I use the phone for road camera, I have reverted to custom 2.3.7. Hope that helps.

use automatic bootloader unlock v4.2 work for my atrix 4g at&t running GB 2.3.6 version 4.5.145 I'm now running superlite JB 4.1.2 only problem is camcorder but i don't video record so not a issue for me plus good battery life for a unofficial build but if you want all drivers to work use cm7 base rom recommend for daily use.

after unlocking and rooting this device it being a major change loading time is ten times faster it use to take me 5 to 10 to load but nw 1 min now time to run some mrom and everyone who is running GB 2.3.6/4.5.145 and wonder how to unlock the bootloader use automatic bootloader unlock easy and simple way and is recommended by xda developer thank u.

To unlock this bootloader is 8/10 on the difficulty scale, its 'Old School', not he 1 click POOT to RooT that's done today. Head over to XDA Developers Forum: Use this ROM, seriously, its the best of the 5 I've tried: ­ He has a post at XDA Developers Forum: If you proceed, just unlock the bootloader, install the MROM(It includes the CWM Kernel), SIM unlock if you wish to use a different service carrier,,,,I use NEXT Launcher Full Version from Google Play as my launcher. I unlocked the Bootloader and installed MROM(cyanogen7.7 mod) this gives me fantastic battery life and no overheating/4Hr battery life I was experiencing with the stock Motorola ROM. Seriously, the stock ROM is CRAP! Battery life was max 4.5 Hrs running 3G/texting/surfing. Charging, I could fry an egg on my phone, battery reporting was all over the place, mostly 1/2 charged reporting 230% charge @ 3800mV... I like this phone, I now LOVE this phone with MROM as the OS. ­ Battery life is fantastic. Audio, Full DSP GUI takes advantage of the Wolfson 5.1 audio chip and with FLAC as the file format the sound is unbeatable. I have BOSE QuietComfort 15 headphones and demoing this to different people, they can't believe the audiofile acoustics that this tiny phone produces. This morning I had the WiFi/3G and Music playing for over 5Hrs and still had 30%+ battery left. I'm not sure if its the Cyanogen or Michael Montuori's coding work and tweaking that makes this a winner ROM, but the next phone I purchase will be one that Mr. Montuori has developed the ROM for. I will always keep this phone, I even might purchase a used BU phone to keep as an audio player, its better than any other audio player I have owned or listened to, in its current configuration.

to all those people out there who own a motorola atrix 4g and have unlocked their bootloader 4.5.145 and are having sleep of death issues aka SOD where the phone does not wake up after a period of inactivity download moto software updater from motorola website and follow the on screen instructions moto software updater will download the stock 4.5.145 and automatically flash it and finally u will get rid of sleep of death issues and remember u will have to be in stock firmware the moto software update wont recognize your phone if u are on cyanogenmod word of advice if u are already on 4.5.145 never unlock the bootloader because there is no unlockable bootloader for 4.5.145 all the unlocked boootloaders are from previous versions so even though they unlock the phone there will be consequences like sod and random reboots on high temperatures so bottom line is u have to go back to stock many people will tell u to flash via rsd lite but trust me rsd lite is of no help as it wont be able to flash successfully because 4.5.145 sbf is not available and rsd cant downgrade so it will give an error message error switching phone to BP pass through mode but the moto software updater will be able to download the 4.5.145 sbf from motorola website and flash it automatically thank you everyone

there is no such thing as 100 percent stable rom other than the stock rom but u can give cm7.2stable a try and dont even think of trying ics or jb custom roms no matter what the developer of the roms say they cannot be used as a daily driver due they will have problems such as fingerprint sensor error,camera flash incorrect timing,geotagging and mostly horrible battery life but cm7.2 is the best according to me its battery life is good and u can customize it a lot

u need to unlock your bootloader first and then only u can install custom roms head over to xda forum there are many tutorials to unlocking the bootloader after unlocking your bootloader then u have to install clockwork recovery mod and then only u will be able to install cm10,9,7 or whatever u want

Motorola make one of the best and turn it in the worst right now because of this you are losing a lot of customer with empty promise cause you promise ICS and then cancelled it shame on you for that it was best you create it and it was buggy that to promise and meet it and its not to late to make a ICS or a GB for this device and it would be cool cause a lot of user would get back a atrix 4G it was the first dual core phone i thinks it should have being the first to receive ICS and JB.

do a search for upgrading to jelly bean for the atrix. You have to root your phone and then unlock the boot loader,then you can install the 4.1 rom. It works great, I used the superlite cm10 4.1.2jb v8 by vincom rom, it's stable except for the camera functions which crashes sometimes.

Phone is great, once you upgrade the OS. Unfortunately this was very hard. The problem was that the phone ships with the original OS 4.1.57.MB860.ATT.en.US (android 2.2.1). This version was so buggy that the phone did not even boot when I first opened the package. I thought it was a hardware issue, since I was not able to do an over-the-air upgrade and almost shipped it back. To upgrade the phone you to 4.5.145.MB860.ATT.en.US (android 2.3.6) must use a USB cable and the Motorola software update program:

you can get CyangonMod 10.1 or 10 for your atrix 4g but it is not official ... iam using cm 10.1 android 4.2.2 on my atrix and it works perfectly but the front camera is dead ... cant use it by any app .... but i didnt try to chat with it but i think it is totally dead .... but the best thing about this ROM ... it have 1080p video recording with focus and its smooth it have bunch of interesting things ... you can get the ROM from this link have a nice day you can contact me with my youtube channel

At the top of the screen there are 4 options - Dialler, Recent, Contacts, Favourites. Touch Recent and it will list all recent calls. I had this phone for over 6 months and so far its very good one. the touch screen is fast ans smooth. the finger print device is still working fine. the WIFI is good. I love the design. the battery is just great lasts for up to 2 days with light usage and 24 hours with mid usage "awesome". but unfortunately the signal strength is not so good. the storage capacity is just great specially comparing to other brands in the same price range. simply it is the best you can have in this price.

The most underrated phone out there! Why? It has fingerprint login security, HDMI output to TV, LED notification (this might seem small but it took Samsung until the Galaxy S4 model to have this feature!), perfect sizing, and very durable. I've used a fair amount of Samsung Galaxy devices and I have to say, even though the Motorola interface is not as fancy and catchy to the eyes, it's made up for that a thousand more through solid hardware and software stability. A very trust worthy device.

I have to say the Atrix is one of the most underrated phones out there. Sure, it may not have the most modern processor in the known universe, but for the 95% of us, it will do the job and be an excellent smartphone. I speak from experience because I have had two (one, I gave to someone and the other got run over) and just received another one. If you do a little searching on eBay and you are in the market for a powerful easy to use Android phone that wont cost you an arm and a leg, you can't go wrong with the Atrix.

I've had this "Refurbished" 4g since July 2011 and it proved to be the "Smart" one between the 2 of us. :) The phone was so far ahead of the competition, that they're just now figuring out what hit 'em. You can upgrade it to 4.1 if you use cynogenmod(latest). Although I don't reccomend it as they have not worked out ALL of the bugs yet. Just root it and unlock the bootloader you and you one awesome device. I have had mine since they first came out and it has been great. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that you cannot record calls on it due to motorola not developing/allowing drivers for it, but that goes for all motorola devices.

Its because the stock rom from Moto is a junk . The hardware of the phone is really excellent , use startup manager and install go launcher you could kill unwanted apps and your phone will never hang or crash please post after you do this so that useful for others!

You can probably fix your battery problems by buying extended battery (1 or more) which comes with a new phone back to accommodate the larger size. Maybe get a separate charger with it if you get more than one extra battery. Check ebay listings. Meanwhile, it helps to turn a few things off for everyday use (eg. GPS) For Vodafone settings, check your Vodafone website. You'll need to set one or more new APN (Access point names) according to local requirements. I have it working even with MMS / PXT so it's possible.. at least in Australia. If you can, get an internet connection on a computer and Goggle "Vodafone APN settings" and take note of the configurations you need. Pretty sure that India has a site, if that helps...

Use till it turns itself off, while off, charge till it's full, leave it on charge for 45 mins to an hour, switch on, use it till it goes off. Repeat this twice then go back to normal charging. Also, switch of data, wi-fi, bluetooth when not in use. Dim down display and set it to go off after 30 secs. Mine gives me 13 to 24 hours that way, based on usage.

I bought an Atrix 4G on eBay also. As soon as I got it, I logged on to my home wifi and updated to Gingerbread. Now running version 2.3.6. Also, I don't use Motoblur. I downloaded Go Launcher from Google Play and use that instead. Very smooth and fluid. To update software, go to Settings, than About Phone. When you get there, you should see the option to update your software. Hope this helps.

Unlock, root and read Be very, very careful with unlocking!!! Once you unlock you cannot lock or flash official update. Hard brick is 99% sure if you try.

I have had the Motorola Atrix for just about 10 months. I love the battery Life and the apps. I fell in love in the beginnig, but as I started to use it more and more, my love fell. Now I can't wait for my 2 years to be over! This phone has nice features but locks up frequently. My bottom muttons sometimes don't work! I have problems with my internet when I am not on Wi-Fi. Even when I am on Wi-Fi sometimes it doesn't work. This phone is so hard to type on that people can't use my phone. It is not very easy to figure out. like I said I have had it for 10 months and I sill don't know where somethings are! I was told this was the best phone on the market. I can prove that wrong anyday! Many people say this is a great phone but I have too many problems with it! This phone is so annoying and I can't wait for my plan to be over!

it's a great phone, not so famous like other phones but do everything you want and more; great internal memory, great processor, no lags on 3d games, great network signal and wifi reception. Awesome GPS, i use it on bike rides for almost 8 hours. You may install JuiceDefender to ultra-improve battery life and third party media player to improve your music experience (i'm using winamp). The video player have only the basic functions but it's ok, no more is needed to watch a movie on the fly or via the motorola entertainment center on your tv. About The Enterteinment Center, awesome: attach the phone to it's standard dock, connect it to your tv via HDMI provided cable and use your remote control to play like a standard dvd. About Webtop, same as the Enterteinment center, get a mouse and keyboard and work on your tv with the Atrix like on your computer. The only thing that it's not so good is the photo camera but it's more for the config utilities, you may tray other cameras to get some color/effects improvement. The video recorder it's ok, so much more than i expected. It's really a great phone and by the way, get your friends impressed with the fingerprint sensor.

atrix 4g is more okei than atrix 2.. the only diff is the cam atrix 1 4g is 5 mp while atrix 2 is 8 mp...the built in memory of atrix 1 is 16gig while the atrix 2 is just 8gig,,,,,so for me atrix 1 4G is still the best fon for me,,

Please don't get this! Firstly I should sue you for a false review... This thing will not play HD mp4 videos. Not even 720p YouTube ones. All latest updates installed. It will play them laggy via MX Video Player in SW mode. What a disgrace! I feel cheated GSMArena for your false review! Secondly front cam quality if worst than an iPod Touch 4G. Thirdly as MASSIVE fault...it cannot repeat a single song. 3rd Party players some do some don't! What the hell? But not being able to play HD videos is a MASSIVE dealbreaker I feel like kicking myself! Also available RAM is 450MB...after you boot up the phone with a couple of apps intalled. 720p video is playing well in my atrix 4g phone. No issues so far with the videos. BTW, am using MX vido player to watch all the videos. The player that comes with the phone doesnt play few videos which are played by MX video player.

I bought this phone some 4 months back and below is my review: Pros Powerful, overclock it and its a breeze with Benchmarks Good built quality, not scratch proof though ICS, Gingerbread, Fryo, all run well Quality display, its a winner on many others. Cons Radio issues, signal once lost takes time to come back. Voice cracking and hissing while on call over 2/3G. Battery which is applicable to all smart phones.\ Not as slim as others out there. I use this phone more as a computer and it does a great job. Short battery life keeps my usage limited. When I tried a friend's SGII I was a bit jealous but Atrix 4G does what its good at, being a handy phone and computer, not a giant huge screened mammoth you can't even carry around easily in your pocket. I would strongly recommend getting this phone. Its worth the price.

ya u can update it to 2.3.6... use ota root keeper to create root bacckup.. unroot the phone using ota root keeper.. then uninstall superuser updates.. uninstall ota rootkeeper and then perform an OTA update.. after the update install rootkeeper and restore the root and update ur superuser.. also restart the phone.. if u haev any doubts chk the atrix 2 retain root update..

A big hello to all Atrix users! I have my heart set on this one so I would soon be it from indiatimes. I called them up and inquired if the phone was locked and they said it was unlocked (of course the real adventure starts when you actually get the phone) I need to know a few things 1) The phones which are being sent by indiatimes .. do they have the option to allow installation of non-market apps? I know there was some update last year from AT&T that allowed that..but I am not sure if the phones sent from indiatimes have that update since it's froyo and not gingerbread 2)The official upgrade from froyo to gingerbread. do not enter wrong code so many times! go to ebay, search for ''atrix sim unlock'' and choose one of the sellers that have excellent rating. make sure about the carrier too, such as att. you will most probably get your atrix unlocked without any problem. they send you the unlock code within a day.

1) Don't trust sellers on ebay unless they are powerseller and have sold a lot of merchands with excellent ratings 2) There are lots of new atrix sold as well as used ones. 3) If you get a custom rom, unlock the bootloader, and so, you might be out of warranty. Atrix is way better than Galaxy S2 because Atrix is really compact. It has 4 inches of screen, still, it is almost the same size with Iphone. But Galaxy S2 is looking so big and gross. It is like it is made of poor quality/plastic cover and so. Besides, the battery of S2 sucks. You cannot go over 24 hours with moderate use. Atrix's battery is really satistactory. My battery is now at %50, it has been 48 hours now, with using 2,5 hour music player, 1,5 hours screen on, 30-40 minutes wifi.

Right a second hand store here in UK has 4 moto atrix 4g for sale but i want to check first with this question.. Is the only difference between moto atrix and moto atrix 4g the extra hsdpa band??? If its true then i can buy the 4g version and use it in UK.Even gsmarena has only reviewed the 4g version,its as if the non 4g version does not exist. Thanks anyway for help but it is a very expensive unit but that battery gives me confidence.

I would agree if you are in Froyo 2.2. Which was more noticeable in low light condition or trying to take a picture with flash.... Now on Gingerbread actualization the camera works great, and it has many new pic modes such as Panoramic and multi burst included... (also more scenes).... Camera is great...

My phone updated to Gingerbread 2.3.4. The next day I called it in as broken on my insurance plan to get a new one with Froyo 2.2 stock installed. I will never let it update. The goodies in Gingerbread 2.3.4 are a trojan horse hiding many things that are going to cost you a lot more in the long run. The cell phone providers and the manufactures are only in the business of trying to part you from your money. Drink the cool-aid kiddies and enjoy less for more in initial costs and monthly bills. BTW my cellphone plan is from 2003, I am grandfathered into every benefit I have. They will never get me on a new contract. The small print on those contracts are there for good reason. Just picked mine up yesterday and i must say this phone is unreal. It is blazing fast and super responsive. Pros: blazing fast sharp crisp screen, camera, looks. A lot more customizable than any iphone out of the box without jail brakes or rooting. The options seems limitless of what you can do with the phone, i don't know why you would want to root it but im sure ill find one lol. The new 4g one from at&t comes with ginger board 2.3 so no updating yet. Cons: one hell of a learning curve but im an iphone user and im sure any other android user would find this cure a lot smaller. As far as MOTOBLUR goes im not sure if im a fan or not yet. other notes the speck case fits amazingly no loss of sound or functionality and is highly recommended over the otter box. Its a hard core case yet slim and less bulky.

Galaxy S 2 in not a phone. Is a table with cell phone capability. You have to draw a line at what it's considered to be a phone. A phone that large as Galaxy S 2 in not considered to be a phone, for me at last a phone must be portable enough to take it with you anywhere. Just disable screen and WIFI toggle. They use lots of battery power. Enable them only when you use them. I do that with my atrix all the time and it works. Android booster also helps. I closes all running apps you do not need that also eat power. You can get this app for free from android market.

Any new phone need to be charged for 8 or 9 hours before you start using it to avoid any battery dommage. Still Atrix have a very good battery life one of the best in the market.

Is it necessary to charge the battery for 5-8 hours after it was bought? If yes, what difference does it make? Display of even XOOM is far from being satisfactory. All are moving to IPS LED LCD panels. Even ASus launched eee pad transformer with IPS clarity. Don know why MOTO misses finer points. Hey All, Got my Atrix through Orange (Upgrade) on Tuesday and am very impressed, then I would be after living with the Samsung i8910 for the past two years. I sent back the Arc....don't get me wrong it's a nice phone BUT it kept dropping the wifi connection, build in my opinion was poor (very creaky) and you cannot zoom in at high resolutions....and their support was poor. Atrix Build, speed etc etc are all great! Waiting for my Otterman case, which through Play is cheap but then I found it cheaper on Expansys!!!! :O/...oh well ;O) No voice issues (as yet). Maybe this is something that is only effecting phone in the US, although very disconcerting is how Motorola are dealing with the issue (been reading the forums). Saying that, it's definitely not worse then the contempt Samsung showed the UK consumer with the bug filled i8910. Just waiting for the free work and play kit which Orange supply to customers that upgrade. Talking about Orange I called their tech support with a simple question and was informed that he had not seen the phone or heard about it, going on to say that other manfacturers usually send in reps so that they can play with the phones this in the case with Motorola has not happened. This was the case with the customer service dude....as for the lady in the loyalty that I did not have the pleasure of speaking to...I won't even repeat what she said.... Lets just say that for a phone that is an Orange exclusive and is being heavily marketed by both Orange and Motorola it's all quite laughable...and ever so worrying. It was nearly tempted to get the Galaxy S2 and nearly did from Phones4u but like I said I will never touch a Samsung phone again....Naughty Samsung UK Support.... Back to the Atrix like I said, Like it alot, got it free which was brill (Considering Orange charged me £70 for the Arc) and on an 18 month contract, 400mins, 350 txts, 50 pic messages, 500gb and Orange insurance for 30 quid....much better then my old contract. Also, I would download a better keyboard and one thing not pointed out alot in reviews is that the built-in speaker is actually pretty good. Hope this helped :)

the phone is excellent. i had it for a few days.. but what users don't realize before they buy the phone is that every time the screen locks, reaching for the unlock button is the fingerprint scanner button.. it gets annoying after a while if your constantly using your phone because the button is placed quite deeply.

You won't ever look back A bit of context, just so you know where I'm coming from on this... - I upgraded from a Motorola Backflip. The best Android phone AT&T had to offer at the time, but I'd had enough of the ridiculously slow processor. - Rather than wait another 8 months to renew my contract, I took an exclusion renewal, so I got the Atrix for only about $100 under retail price. - I don't spend much time on social networking sites, so the Motoblur features aren't a selling point for me. - I've used iOS devices, and their UI design is excellent, but I'd never buy an Apple product (I find their walled-garden policy patronizing and their hardware restrictions unethical.) So when I looked into upgrading, I cross-checked the specs on a few different phones (Android's great, but I was willing to try Windows or Blackberry if the hardware was right). The dual 1ghz processor sold me on the Atrix. Remember when cell phone LCDs first went from black and white to color? Within the first five minutes, this phone completely changed my paradigm for mobile phones. Everything is fluid and responsive - no more half-second delays between action and response, no more waiting for a window to load, it's all instantaneous. I won't waste your time with a glowing review (there are enough on here already), I'll just cover the questions I had when looking into upgrading my phone. And I'll start with the cons, because the Atrix is just that impressive: Cons: 1. Battery life is pathetic. While we've come to accept that with touchscreen smart phones, it's a shame that 8 hours of moderate use will suck down the whole battery. It's on par with other high performance phones, so plug it in to your car adapter, PC, or outlet whenever you get the chance. 2. Android 2.2 is almost a year old, and 2.3's been out for a while now. It would be nice to have an ETA on when the 2.3 update will be pushed to these phones. 3. The usual Motorola/AT&T rebranding and lockdown of the OS. It's unnecessary restriction just to squeeze a bit of extra cash out of their customers, and they should be ashamed of themselves. 4. No physical keyboard. People that are used to touchscreen-only devices won't even raise an eyebrow about it, but this is the first phone I've owned that didn't have a keypad of some sort. 5. The accessories are gimmicky and overpriced. If you want a laptop, spend the $400 on a laptop. If you want to play media on your TV, use the Atrix's built-in DLNA to run it through your Xbox, HTPC, or any of the other DLNA devices you've already got connected. The dock is crazy expensive, and the phone comes with an HDMI cable, which is really all you need. 6. The battery gets a warm when charging - scary warm, like it might not be healthy for the phone. Phone also charges slowly when connected to a PC. 7. The power button is about the same size and shape as the loudspeaker, and it's in about the same spot (only on the opposite side of the phone). I've caught myself pressing the speaker to turn on the phone, rather than the power button, at least 10 times this week. That can't be good for the speaker. Pros: 1. FAST. Insane fast. The responsiveness of this phone is like nothing I've seen before - there is no noticeable delay in using any of the UI menus or features. 2. The screen is enormous, vivid, and crisp - almost on par with a PC monitor. 3. All the I/O ports you need: micro USB, stereo miniplug, and mini HDMI. (And it comes with a free mini HDMI to HDMI cable, so you can plug it right into your TV or home theater receiver) 4. DLNA is fantastic - I never considered how useful it would be on a phone until I saw it in the apps menu. Access all your Windows 7 shared libraries, media on your Xbox 360, or shared media on any other DLNA-enabled device on your network. Transferring files from your computer to your phone is as easy a tapping a few icons - no cables required, and transfer speeds are quick - ballpark, I'd say it was around 1 MB/s. 5. Voice recognition is excellent. For the first time, speaking a text message is actually faster and easier than typing it in. Accuracy is good, and my only complaint so far is that it automatically censors swear words. Which is bull****. 6. Very light for its size. 7. Front-facing camera and rear camera with a bright LED flash. 8. Six input buttons: Volume up/down, menu, home, back, and search (search was a new one for me) 9. The usual bonuses that come with buying non-Apple phones: you can take the battery out if it freezes or you keep a spare; microSD port allows you to expand your storage space up to 48GB; you can load and play DRM-free media without using any apps or programs; reasonable replacement plans for theft, damage, or loss; standard micro-USB charge port, so if you can buy cheap spare charging cables in the wall socket, at your office, in your car, etc. 10. And, of course, the flexibility that the Android homescreen offers for widgets, shortcuts, and everything in between. The phone's processor handles it all with exceptional speed - I filled the home screen with every widget on the phone, just to put the phone through its paces, and screen-to-screen transitions were as smooth as ever. I bought this phone because I wanted something faster. I got all that and more. If you've already got one of the newer iPhones or a newer, higher-end Android device and you're satisfied with it, you can probably wait until next year's crop of superstar phones come out - there may not be enough of a difference to justify the price. But if you're in need of a serious speed upgrade, the Atrix will revolutionize the way you see mobile phones. There really is no going back. UPDATE: After some more time with the phone, I've got a few additional items for the "pros" list. 11. The loudspeaker, while small, is surprisingly loud and crisp - couple that with Pandora, Grooveshark, or stored MP3s, and you've got a nice little micro-boombox. 12. The fingerprint reader is an ingenious timesaver. I hate having to slide-unlock my phone after pressing the power button to turn on the screen - just another step in the process, but turning it off leads to pocket-dialing, which isn't fun for anyone. Despite all the personal data stored on smartphones, I've never used the pin lock feature either, because I don't want to go through the extra step every time I wake up my phone. Enter the fingerprint reader. It sounded gimmicky, so I ignored it for the first week. When I finally gave it a shot, I was amazed at the elegance and simplicity of the idea. You press the power button to wake up your phone. Then slide your finger down the same power button (you don't even have to adjust your grip), and there's your home screen. No need to swipe to unlock, no need to type in a pin. The fingerprint recognition seems strong, too - I tried to get a false positive using my other fingers (it only works for your right and left index fingers) - and the phone rejected those attempts. As a failsafe, you can always enter your pin number to unlock the phone if the fingerprint reader malfunctions.

even if I check out your site every day, i always get the feeling that when your write a review you are dead-drunk. why would you say that the os is a disadvantage if it is upgradeable? who decided that the lock button is questionable placed? why would you buy this phone to operate it without sim card inside? but the best is yet to come: upon "closer inspection" you decided that the image is poor pixelated!!!! guys, the human eye cannot distinguish the difference and your "closer inspection" will not be used in every day use. i own a nokia c6 which i bought disregarding your useless review which had a long list of useless disadvantages. if a phone does not have any real disadvantages, say it, don't just beat around the bush with some stinky, useless og pointless points.

ATRIX 4G (AT&T) has been released in the U.S. market in February 2011, which is identical to Motorola ATRIX. I have Atrix for three days. It's the fastest phone. The camera produce shape images and built in speaker is one of the best. The call quality is loud enough but somehow the call clarify is just average. The qHD is so so and the resolution is not compatible with all applications. 7/10

LauncherPro works fine on the Atrix. It doesn't even require rooting. I am using it as my default launcher, and with the setting to hide the notification bar enabled, my widget grid is 4 columns wide and 7 rows long, with all widgets displayed perfectly and with no distortion. Love that 960x540 screen! The only compromise is that it's not Super AMOLED, which will only bother people that have used phones with that display technology before and appreciated the deep blacks and vibrant colors like I did. Not to say the LCD is bad (it kicks the pants off the BACKFLIP), I just think Super AMOLED is a superior screen technology. The criticisms you've been hearing are about the Atrix's encrypted bootloader, which only prevents loading custom kernels, which is basically speaking a different OS.

I also had battery issues the first day, but they went away after the first full charge. Make sure no programs are eating your battery up, reboot to be sure if you think your battery is dropping faster than it should. I use my Atrix a lot and get 17 hours of use according to my "Battery Left" widget (usually very accurate)

I have owned the Atrix since Feb 22. I am very impressed with the built-in music player, it is very polished and much better than the stock Android player (another plus for Motoblur). It even pauses the music automatically when you pull out your headphones. Music quality is as clear as can be as far as I can tell. I like using the music app better than using Grooveshark Mobile, which I used to use a lot for streaming music. Nothing like having actual MP3s on a device. The camera quality is good, but I haven't loaded any pics on the PC yet for a closer look, so it's hard to say for sure. The camera has auto-focus, but no touch-to-focus like the Galaxy S had. It only autofocuses once you press the 'take picture' button, then immediately saves the picture.

First, the data amount specified on internal memory is always rounded up, not exact, this is common with all flash memory and external HD drives too. Second, I think a lot of memory is reserved for OS firmware, as well as the Webtop interface.

all batteries are designed to last more than 12hours on average use!! it all depends on how u use it. gps, wifi, background data, will drain your battery in a heart beat. turn it off when u don't use them

I love the phone.... minus battery life. unfortunatly, mine lasts 5.5 hours on standby and sending and receiving a total of 20 text messages in that time. I will be swapping out for a new one to see if it is just mine. But, back to the goodies: -BLAZING FAST!! put launcher pro on and is AMAZING! -very clear voice calls and so far no negatives for reception. -screen is merely average (but this is from me who is used to a samsung captivate with the crazy good super AMOLED screen) -The touchscreen is decent, the spacebar at the bottom of the screen is not quite as sensitive as it should be and the Android keyboard is not an option. -There is no issue with movies on the phone. AVI tends to work the best. -The icons arent that great compared to the more polished look of Samsung or LG -The phone is very thin and tiny -The bottom right of the phone as you look at the front gets very warm (could again just be mine) due to the processor being located under that area -There are quite a few new areas in the settings and such on the 2.2 vs 2.1 that are prety neat but also things are moved around a bit. going from 2.1 to the 2.2 will take a couple times of going through it to get used to it. -The fingerprint reader is a GREAT idea, but every now and then will take up to 5 swipes to recognize or sometimes will not and screen will just shut off durring swipe making you put in your pin code. Not bad, but irritating at times. -The HDMI out is AMAZING!! -Wish the foreward facing camera was higher quality. -Camera Flash is a great addition vs the Captivate more to come of course!

Hi all, I am either going to get this phone or the LG Optimus Black. The Samsung Galaxy 2 was my initial first choice but a lack of a HDMI port has made me lose a little interest in it. Its a difficult decision really. I am not concerned about the camara (5MP) as I will buy a HD digital camara soon with 14MP. For those of you who posted about the pricing...I have had the same iphone plan since the 3G. I have unlimited data. If you still have this you can carry it over to the atrix as you are grandfathered in. I called ATT to confirm and asked the rep when I ordered it in person. If you're lucky enough to still be under an old plan you shouldnt have to worry about the data being enough.

Technically it is not 4G. HSPA+ is 3.9G, and HSDPA is 3.75G. 4G is LTE, which this phone is not. Motorola jumped the gun here, there is nothing more 4G about this phone than say HTC or Nokia's latest offerings. Peace, I'm out.

NVIDIA has basically announced a roadmap that has made every unreleased phone, tablet, and gaming handheld of this year seem ancient. Who cares about dual-core now when we will go quad by Aug? Who cares about Kal-El when Stark will be like 70X more powerful in three years? Insane. LG OPTIMUS 3D has already made 3DS look old. I suspect you are all missing the most important point for so many people around the world! You WILL NOT be able to buy one now, when it is released in the USA and more than likely NOT untill it is at least a year and a half old. It is the totalitarian dictator of mobile devices, and that is before you plug it into its associate devices! It has no peer and no competitor, it stands alone as the greatest mobile device of this year 2011. It will have no competitor in the same league! The Atrix is the melding of just about every wish list on this globe Planet Earth. Don't forget it is a phone as well as a tech gadget having outstanding audio which iphone, LG, Samsung and Nokia do not have. Only other phone to come close to the audio capability of the Motorola is the Sony Ericsson. But just try to buy one while it is new and exciting outside USA. In Australia I don't think I will wait till 2013 so I guess it will be another junky HTC with the sound quality and loudness of a mouse fart! Only Motorola and Some Sony Ericsson phones actually have audio quality and reception. If you don't care about audio then why buy a phone at all, buy a notebook instead as it will do more. if you think your audio is good, find a Motorola and compare, you will be shocked. This phone and the XPERIA Play are the only phones I care about this year so far. Motorola (Europe) on their official YouTube channel are very gracious to respond to my comments. I hated Moto for awhile because of their lack of software. Same with Sony. Both were on top of the world around 2005 before their sudden drop after 2007 during the iPhone phenomenon. But both companies are making a great comeback and coming out swinging in 2011 thanks to Android, the most popular OS right now. ATRIX, XOOM, XPERIA PLAY, AND NGP all look awesome! Agree with Jason, along that line, in general, ppl use cellphone camera to post pic on the web which doesn't require that high resolutions. Serious digital photograhpers would not use this type of cellphone camera to capture pics.

Guys... MP only tell you the size of the image and not always the quality of the image. The sensor ability to convert light into digital code is what gives you picture quality. Ever wonder why some camera's of same MP produce different quality?

To the other reader who said they wanted a higher MP camera - you should keep in mind MP doesn't tell you picture quality. You can easily get a 3MP camera that has better image quality than a 12MP camera. My 10 year old Nikon CP995 was 3.2 MP, and it still outclasses any camera phone today. This is why many people ask for a camera that takes better photos than the iPhone 4's 5MP. Getting 12MP images just means larger images.

In a recent review GSMArena has rated different displays thus: No 1. Nokia's ClearBlack displays found on C6-01, E7 etc. No 2. Sony Ericsson's TFT unit with BRAVIA engine called Reality display (found on Xperia Arc) No 3. Apple's TFT with IPS 'Retina' display on iPhone 4. No 4. Samsung's Super AMOLED display on Galaxy S, Wave etc. Next obviously would be the regular AMOLEDs followed by TFTs. The quality of Samsung's new 'Super AMOLED Plus' is to be seen. It certainly deserves an honourable mention here.

Now DOCKED can enable you to download and use Skype for video callling, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and if they can add a webcam om the laptop dock. This will certainly replace a netbook. Without these, then it is nothing more but an un-necessary accessory.

You can unlock the Motorola ATRIX 4G when it release after using it for 90 days with the phone carrier and use it with any GSM Network around the world. I have done that many times before and will still continue to do the same.

You can only use kernels that are signed by Motorola, moron, maybe you're the one that should check XDA. If Moto won't release a new kernel, you're stuck with the old one, forever. XDA's hands are tied. This monster phone should be able to run the latest Android version for the next two years at least without a problem, but Motorola will neglect it after two updates, tops.

I had very bad experience with MOTO phones. You will get white screen after you use few months. Moto's hardwares are very cheap made.

yes motorola is the best to buy , they got solid build quality in all their phones.. in jan 2011 moto is launching 5 phones for india. the droid x , milestone 2, droid 2 global, droid pro & motorola defy.. this phone will come sometime later. everyone will have a hard job choosing between them as all are awesome n unique.

Hats off to Motorola. I was checking this video on youtube: And I didn't know about this docking station which transform it from a cellphone to a "laptop/computer" device. This is awesome. But, they could have improved the camera. Overall this cellphone is a Beast!

Biometric fingerprint reader. Hmmmmm, interesting! When the phone it is stolen, the thief can't use it, but I think there is a chip on the phone that will alert the police... What do you think guys? If it NOT has a chip, although this feature is useless, because the thief will NOT give you back the phone!!
