this was my first phone long long time ago. Now that I have used iphone 4s & 5 and samsung galaxy s4, I actually realize that this sony ericsson is much better quality than those popular phones. I didn't even drop the samsung s4, but the screen cracked,I remember I used to drop this sony ericsson phone at least 8 times a day on a cement because I was a reckless teenager, it never cracked, not once. The case got worn off of course, but you can get the case replacement for really cheap. I remember one time I was listening to music on it, while taking a bath, but then I fell asleep, so my k300 fell into the bathtub and was under water for 1-2 hours, playing music. I woke up and quickly dried off the phone, and the next day, the phone was working perfectly fine. More durable than nokia 3310, trust me. I am willing to drop these expensive and fragile smartphones and go back to my k300

Believe it or not, this is my first mobile and I'm still using it now. The battery lasts me 3-4 days on average. Everything still works perfectly. This was made in the days when battery power was gauged proportionally to its phone's power consumption. I intend to use this phone until it dies before switching to one of the useless latest gadgets which need recharging twice daily.

I have been using this phone for 5 to 6 years, I have got only one problem so far, its cursor button did not work properly two times. Apart from this the phone is a very good one. It is fast, durable, have also dropped it many times but works like brand new all the time, it has a very good sound clarity and quality. It has a VGA camera from which we cannot expect much. This phone is very compact and fits to your pocket so easily. On the whole its a top class phone in its segment.

Well, I bought this phone in 2004. I used it for about 4 years and then I got bored of it and used a w200 instead. I had no comparison ... the w200 had software problems, cheaper joystick and finally it died. I bought a k800i after that. 3 days ago I found this phone ina drawer, put back its original casing (I used chinese cr*p) and got really amazed. Excellent joystick (works like in its first day), no menu latency ... and good durable battery! i will use it as my secondary phone.. too bad it does not have a memory slot, but nevertheless it was my best phone!

Used this phone for over five year's and had absolutely no issues. Dropped it so many times, it chipped here and there, but never malfunctioned. A week ago dropped it again and the speaker is not working in normal mode now. Have to put it on speaker phone. But 5 yrs is a long life for a phone, fully recommend. Very easy to text, great phone. Cam is not that great though.

I bought this phone in 2005, still using features are excellent but the memmory is poor limited to 12MB, good battery life, cristal clear sound, no FM, good phone to browse net. Camera is not very efficient. Overall it is good basic phone in those times, this is defentely have edge over Nokia's similar to this model 6021.

i hv this phone, & like the middle thing that goes up & down sometimes doesnt work, its like no matter how hard u press it hard, it wont go down or up also, i saved a friends number, but then when they call, it doesnt show their name, instead, it showed the number the good thing is there are theme, but there is no usb thing to plug in the computer~ the only way to get the ringtones u want is to record it & use it as ur ringtone its pretty thick, when i put it in my pockets, it sticks out it cant save alot of messages, i rmberd that i had it full up & cant save any more messages, and it was like only 100 txt messages there

In my k300 there are 15 mp3 songs and plenty of space for pics and videos. Reduce your mp3 to 20 kbps it does not matter on the sound quality since its using fone speakers, no difference. And the joystick problem... a simple contact cleaner will fix it.

i love love love this wonderful phone!!! especially most beautiful design i had ever seen!! please vote for it's design 10 to restitute though to 8.0 value!... i bought it lightly used already (were sent almost 500 sms) and i use it for more than 2,5 years!! battery life only reduced ~half (still works 3-4 days under light use)!! it had reloaded only 2 times under unknown reasons (electromagnetic field near pc??) it can't send sms to more than 1 recipient (hangs). my sorry only for some scratches on back/top after drops to hard or harsh surface... it's performance is much more better and flawless than even k750i (my primary phone now)!! typing with such keypad are very comfortable and at a lighting-fast speed versus k750i, again!! wow, it plays back mid, mp3, lc aac (.m4a), 3gp formats flawlessly!! sound quality is astonishing (even more pleasant than k750i)!! though needs more setting convenience and volume steps... could backup sms/synchronize with pc through ir with mobiledit!! when joystick pad gets dirt, it becomes painful to operate, needs for thorough cleaning... thinking to get one spare phone unit for replacement/repair... overall, it's best value entry/mid level amazing mobile phone with some hi-end features!!!

hi yan,d usb cable u must use is the USB CABLE DCU-15 it has a CD inside when u buy it. install it on ur PC ,I bought it in angeles city jenra mall, then u can transfer all ur files video, pictures ,other too... but never on themes . u can trnsfr files from pc to cp too, but luk at the kilobytes of ur cp it has only 12mb it depends on the data uv download.get in touch at jamrs302

Overall, it is a decent phone. Its major drawback is the joystick. I repaired it two times in two years. Today it is 2 and a half years old. The most thing that I like in it is the software, although not that vivid it is very fast and reliable, even if you fill the whole 12MB of memory, its performance remains the same. About the camera, you' d better not use it at night, because the photos will become very pixilated. But in daylight the picture quality is not that bad, you cannot expect better than a VGA camera of a mobile phone produced nearly 4 years ago.

I'm currently using this cellphone, after i broke the K700 that i previously had. While it's pretty limited in functions compared to modern day phones, it's actually a pretty amazing phone. The software is really fast and completelly bug-free, the joystick still works like new after about 3 years of extensive use, (the joystick on my k700i has been repaired twice in only twelve months) the battery lasts for about 7-8 days with average daily usage.

ive been using k300 for 2years,its very durable though it has been falling several times and still in good condition.the thing i like most, is that, you can cancel ur message while it is sending. and most of the mms sent are compatible to my phone. but the thing i hate about this is that the joystick easily looses, and it makes my thumb hurt. but the picture quality is very nice..

This is an excellent phone, i've had mine 2 years, and upset to let it go really. The battery is great, lasts about 4 days when fully charged up, and i never turn my phone off. Nice cheap basic phone, internet access ok, was better when vodafone live was free.Great VGA camera,i've had some great pics.No probs with downloads and worked well abroad. Never had no problems with this phone, until recent,the joystick as started to play up, but I do give my phone a lot of stick.Im only giving up my phone due to the joystick, and the phone as NO BLUETOOTH. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

my officemate has been using k300i since march of 2005 and i bought it from her just last january 2007. the phone is great (the internet works well, so as the other phone features) except for the joystick. i am now having troubles with it. it sometimes hang just like a mouse. and yeah, i am also having troubles in downloading games, themes and ringtones. it doesn't have logos compared to nokia phones. it charges quickly, just as long as you know how to connect the charger to the phone. its volume is great, the photo images are great, it has a good memory to accomodate picture images, videos and sounds. it has infrared port that transfers items easily but i am having trouble with transferring the datas to my computer, i need to have an infrared port connected to the computer. but anyways, i love the phone, it's the very first phone i bought for myself eversince i started working.

The joystick sucks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn' t. Don' t even think of buying a Sony Ericsson with a joystick, because Sony Ericsson' s joystick are bad. After 6 months - 1 year in use, there' s a big chance that its joystick will start to give you trouble. Sony Ericsson should replace joysticks with up & down and left & right buttons.

Hi if you want to get the camera off blk n white then u have 2 change the colour thing.1st go into you camera then more and then effects and you put the colour thing 2 off and thats u sorted! Hi guys can someone pls help me... I had recieved good help from you guys b4 and thank you for it. What hapn'd is my k300i charger got spoilt so the phone was lying uncharged for over a month. I recently bought a SE charger... now the only thing that happens when i plug in the charger is that the red light on the on/off switch(the one that indicates low battery) is on constantly (NOT blinking like it does when on low battery). And the phone won't switch on. Whats going on? Has it gone kaput? Thanks again.

K300i was the first GSM phone I used so was a bit sceptical. But I just say, am very happy with it. SE also happened to be only on second thoughts. Had used LG and Samsung CDMA phones earlier but they were just about passable and as never liked Nokia, was looking for an alternative to the above and am glad chose this one. It's the best I could have got in this price range and my next phone is also going to be an SE. You just cannot beat in terms of features, ease of use and best part is quality of sound output. Nokia (except for N Series) does not even come anywhere close to SE.

I mean, how many messages do you really need to keep? And, like Warren Galea said, if you just add small parts of MP3s, like enough for a ring tone, you can fit quite a few on there! Overall, I'm really happy with my phone, it does everything that i want it to and more!

I've had my K300 since January of 2006. Overall, this is a fine little cell phone. Reliable, clear sound, and sturdy. I use mine for business purposes. The joy stick on mine works very well, but the concept is less than ideal. It is a clunky way to navigate on such a small item. The camera is useless, but I didn't buy it for that. I just use it as a phone. And for that purpose, this little gem does just fine. My rating? Personally I would give the K300 a 8.5 overall -- not perfect but better than many. Judging from the scores of around 8.0-8.1, it appears many here agree with me. I would consider Sony Ericsson for my next phone.

I have that phone about 9 months but now.I give it to my father. yesterday my father accidentally put the charging jack and now phone pins sucks and we cannot find its whole pin base.Country like Saudi Arabia its repairing and resells vaule are not more then like a hell.Here all the peolpe use only Nokia and now Motorola are also getting popualr but peolpe didnt know about SE phones here.I am personily great fan of SE but the problem here SE are not so much popaluar especaily in small cities.I have now brougth new k750i its great phone but will disappointed when time to sell!.

I've had this phone for 8 months. Although i was very happy about it because it has quite some nice features for his class and price(the camera is ok, mp3 player, easy-to-use menu), i was dissapointed when i found out it had some serious issues.For example, my soft crashed a few times since i had it.The phone just blocked instantly while i was talking on the phone and i had to restart it to use it again. Another problem i've had was the recharging system. The pins are very sensitive and the phone won't recharge if it's not put in the proper position. I found out after a few hours that my phone dind't recharge at all because the "position" was not right. And the worst thing is that i can't get these problems fixed because they don't occur regularly,only from time to time.So the warranty is useless for my problems. My suggestion: think twice before you buy it!

I've had the K300i for almost a year now, I really liked it at first, but now I can't wait to get a new phone. I was really disappointed since it has such good reviews. Pros: compact, I like the shortcuts and the fact that you can record music to use as ringtones Cons: joystick is hard to use, horrible reception-I frequently don't get calls/texts and recieve the voicemails/texts hours or days later. I know this is not because of my provider since my roommate has the same provider and has great reception.

I bought this phone for AU$159 and was pretty satisfied with it until a few months after. After 7 months, the keypad walked away from me, then in a year of having the phone, IT WON'T TURN ON ANYMORE!!!!!!!!! Whenever I charge it, there's a red light coming out from the on/off switch. I haven't done anything wrong with it. Never dropped it whatever. My dad's really pissed at me 'cause he thinks its my fault it stuffed up and now he won't let me buy a new phone (W300i) and now I'm stuck with the crappy Nokia 3200. Pros: - This phone has pretty good features - The mp3 player is cool Cons: - No external memory slot - BAD BAD Camera - MP3 ringtones have to be protected - Browser is really crap - 12MB is S*$% - The keypad fails after a few months. - I JUST HATE IT NOW!!!

after being satisfied with this phone for a year already, i'm now planing to have a change for a SAMSUNG phone. seems like SE is not doing that good in the past few months of introducing phones imo. maybe because of the lost in it's revenue caused all those sufferings. but i'm very happy with this phone, will change later to the e250 slider, it looks like D900 but with less powerful camera and screen(though even at stn-type only samsung has the brightest LCD i ever seen=)) good luck SE. and goodbye!

Hello with regard to your he/she wonders I can say that the K300 accepts the format Mpeg4, but so that it not recognizes it alone it is to give him the format that one wants but also the file type for that if your you don't give to the file the correct parameter your K300 it won't recognize the video it would recommend you that due to the shared memory that he/she has this cellular one you kept the videos in format 3gp that it is but tablet that the format Mpeg4 but so that he/she reproduces it you should convert it to that format type and format H264 so that it works well. For the sounds the format that the K300 admits is Mpeg3, midi, imy the format Mpeg4 it doesn't accept it neither but that attempt it he/she will reproduce.

It' very nice, It make me love all Sonyericssons (I was a Nokia boy before) What I love about this phone is that "you have what you need and quick" its very handy, practic and have nice features. The camera it's nice, vCard contacts are awesome, Mp3 ringtones, Design your own themes.... You just get float's mobile agent and you have a nice combo. I have been owning this mobile phone for 1 year and 2 months now. My joystick does not work well any more, and I will be repairing it in a few time. Overall it is a good mobile, but it needs bluetooth, FM Radio and a better camera. 0.3 megapixels is VERY POOR!! 12 megabytes are not that much but not very few either. I insert only insert small parts of MP3s in it, in order to save space. It is a very cheap mobile compared to its features. I am in favour of bar phones and don' t like non-bar phones very much. I rate it 7 out of 10.

If you convert music in smaller formats you can put it on the phone. I have got 5 mp3s that normally are big, but after you convert them they are smaller. guys! why bother with this unit? there's a lot of SE units which has anything you wanted in a phone: namely -z550-has 1.3mp cam,bluetooth and ms-slot-best all-rounder! -K510-very good 1.3mp cam and bluetooth -both were having a better display bush is absoluely correct, you get what you pay for, if it has 1.3mp cam and memory slot then it won't be as cheap as it is sold now.

heny,.. while calling,.. press the center joystick to go to some options, then tap and choose activate loudspeaker option... and voila!!! you can have call using louspeaker... anyways... in media player section,.. just play the track you wish then move joystick to the right to increase voulme and left to decrease loudness(note: whenever you have set the volume to the highest, it is permanently in highest volume everytime you open media player unlike in the file manager menu...) hope this helps:-D

i've had this fone for almost a year now (im getting a nu 1 4 xmas) and it is a pretty reliable fone but ther r a fu minor problems; (1) the camera and video quality r absolutely rubbish (2) the games r not even worth trying, they're so dissapointing (3) theres very little space in the messages folder and i find i'm always emptying my inbox or sent items to make room (4) there isnt much video space, but then agen i dont really need a lot. Another problem that faces me (which is not any fault of sony erricson), my puppy (man's 'best frind') broke into my room 1 dat and chewed my charger 2 bits. I had 2 cut it up and open the wires, tangle the copper wires 2 gether and then tape it 2gether and just hope 4 the best. It works sumtyms (after minuts of twisting, tilting and squeezing the wire). needless 2 say, i'm getting a nu fone this xmas (nokia 6111 black) but i've heard so much bad reviews on it that i'm on the verge of changing my mind agen. can ne1 advise a cool luking fone (not in pink!) that has a gud camera, gud games, is not a walkman fone that dusnt break easily. ta xxx

I had a K300i for almost a year and a half. It was a great phone when i bought it. Compared, pound for pound, to other brands at the same price range nothing, I repeat...NOTHING!, came close to it. It has features usually found only on higher-end models but at half the price! It's extremely durable too! I dropped this baby more times than i can remember (even at heights that would make anyone wince or cry out in shock) and it's still working perfectly! Well, except for the joystick which occasionally gets stuck. Sure it didnt have a card slot, more memory, a better and bigger screen, or what not. If it did, we'd be paying a higher price and the phone wouldn't be considered "budget" now would it? (so whiners, quit complaining! And stop comparing lemons with apples!) I wouldn't recommend buying one now since there are better phones being churned out by SE (makes for a great second phone though!). But for those lucky enough to have purchased one before; it was money well spent!

Anni You can use Win98 for pc transfer to K300 and back. I use both Win98 and XP for tansfer on my K300. Its a wonderful phone in its class. DCU-11 pack comes with a CD for the driver. Install the driver (USBDriver) in the CD for Win98. Reboot the system and follow other steps to complete the installation. You must know the COM port allocated to it the cable by Win98. Give this information to Myphone Explorer and there it is. You will download and upload with ease.

Anni,.. you have to have a usb data cable or infrared adapter to be able to send pictures and etc. after installing, you may download and install myphone explorer at myk300.lasyk.net or the sony ericsson file manager at their website... tip: if you want to send files from PC to phone and you are using windows xp, you may right click the file then click send to: then another computer(that is if you are using infrared... if USB, better use the any of the two programs i have given... hope this helps...:-D

hmm... now my k300 is already 9 months.. and i've proven that this is my best phone ever, very reliable except the joystick, but i always have a way to remedy that since jack and @Doul(from K750 thread) gave me an advice to prevent the malfunction... i'm having a plan of buying an ASUS V66 or V75 so that i could have two phones... one for multimedia(V66/V75 for having every possible multimedia features in such a very cheap price) and one for messaging(k300 coz it has lengthy battery life),.. but still this is the best SE low-priced phone ever made...

This is an excellent phone. I have a K300i (Blue & silver). But there are three major drawbacks: (1) The image & audio/video recording quality is not that good when viewed or played using the phone itself. (2) The battery's standby time is about 2 days maximum when the phone is being used, if unused in anyway whatsoever it increases (3) This is the biggest drawback in this phone and probably in most Sony Ericsson phones - If you tilt, move, or lift the phone while it's being charged the electricity power supply goes off, it comes back, it goes off again..... since the charger's connector to the phone is very sensitive unlike in many other phones. This situation is not good for the phone's battery and for the phone!

Hi, never EVER mess with the batteries with outer force. Pirate batteries completely lack electic safety circuits but also original batteries should not in any way be effected with outer force. This is the same for all original batteries from all major handset manufacturers. Only use original chargers. Original chargers remove current spikes; pirates chargers do not. This means that using pirate chargers can damage your phone since the spikes can destroy some electrical components in the phone. Sorry to say, but trying to "puncture it [the battery] very lightly" is very foolish. Don't try to repair something you do not understand.

uhh...d cell is k...been usin it 4 a year now...really god price 2 say d least..its got almost everythin a good cell needs...d cam is k..after u set a couple of settings...but the problem is that wen u set d camera u get a 150kb size file n dat cannot open quickly nor is dere lot of space on d fone...tokin of d space...its really less..not enuf 4 ur music n videos d cell doesnt have bluetooth which is a dissapointment but d infrared port is really powerfull..it has never failed me... d display is clear..not so clear in d sunlight...but quite decent..screen 2 small.. gud sound quality...joystick is horrible..sumtimes its jus stops workin..but never d less...its worked well 4 me..sadly m gonna sell it of 4 a m-600...adios

If you're referring to the comments posted by disappointed, then if you want to know it, let me tell you that I'm sure that the battery was genuine because the mobile was bought from an operator called VODAFONE.I think that this operator is a very well known and reliable one.The box in which it was bought was branded with the operator. Thus the phone and everything in it was brand new.Maybe what happened to my brother was just an unfortunate event.Thank God it doesn't happen to everyone! I must admit that SE is a very good producer of mobile phones in terms of features. However, when it comes to practical things,it shows some flaws.For example, why not put a rubber cover on ALL SE phones connectors (as in K700i?),& not just some of them?! With time a connector exposed to the outside environment becomes dirty and it becomes very difficult to make a connection with the charger/handsfree/headphones.I know this from experience.So pls SE do make connector covers...it would give you the edge (from the practical point of view) on other mobile producers.

Well i guess the problem with your battery was that 1. Its was'nt genuine or 2. You've bought the used headset, I'm in Karachi,pakistan & we have the same problems like packing the used headset & selling it again, thats why i use to buy phones from Well known shops like MZ or United mobiles ... @ Sef: Unfortunately I am not as technical as you are (although I should have done some research myself), & I cannot remember whether the battery was either of the two types.I could not read anything on the battery after it exploded because it was totally burnt.But I know it is original. I may be wrong in the technicalities, but I sure remember the incident.I think (imo) that the problem was that the mobile was being charged in a way other than the manufacturer intended.This had to be done because as I said, the connecting port became dysfunctional.This probably contributed to what happened. for the guy below me: well, if that's the case, could you please tell me what kind of battery is that(the one that exploded)? ...is it a lithium polymer one(li-poly/li-po) or an li-ion one? because according to my research, lithium-polymer batteries are not flamable nor it wont explode.. in a li-ploymer battery, the lithium salt electrolyte is not held in an organic solvent like in the proven lithium ion design, but in a solid polymer composite such as polyacrylonitrile... solid polymer electrolyte is not flammable unlike the organic solvent that the Li-Ion cell uses.. these batteries are less hazardous if mistreated... either, only li-ion batteries have that chance to have explosion,.. yeah you may be right that the inflation is caused by the kind of energy used in that battery for it to charge(overresistance) as you have said, they used solar,.. but it could only be dangerous if you got a fake product, even it comes from an authorized seller, it could be manufacturer's failure nor the seller's falure(due to the fact that some sellers modify the phones before selling)... I said this based from my experiences, i have no intention of saying you're wrong, but indeed that will surely happen if a manufacturer has made few mistakes in which people are the biggest victims... but then i have tried so many SE's and Nokias but only experienced that using Class A batteries before... even now... i admit i am careless using my phone, mostly dropping my battery and overcharging that, but using original batteries, i dont even experience that incident again... hope you wont mind that. it's only my opinion...

@ Sef: I am totally sure that the battery was an original one.This phone was bought from a major phone operator, and was branded as such & had the operator's software installed. However, to say the truth, in the last six months of the mobile's life (the mobile battery's life lasted 1 year), the charging port of the mobile got defective (could not make contact) and eventually we stopped using it altogether. The phone's battery was then charged with solar power so as to continue using it. Maybe that's why it got inflated (probably coz the acid leaked...my bro thought it was air). Obviously if he knew that the battery was becoming "inflated" with acid, he would surely not do what he did.

I think you've got a bad product, or it's a fake product.. coz none of us that uses this kind of battery doesn't experience exploding,.. i remember when my friend have his battery li-ion from nokia(which is a class a product only) got inflated and becomes intensely hot, we throw that battery and it inflates until it exploded... then we decided to use original batteries and throw all of our non-original batteries to prevent that accident, 3 years later, we didin't experience that anymore, i'm now using SE and my friends too, and all of us dropped not only the battery many times, but also our own phone, in which nothing happened, please don't be offended by my words, but i think you've got a fake battery on your SE,..

Dear all, My bro just witnessed a terrible experience with this mobile. At first he noticed that the battery was not fitting in his mobile because it looked inflated. So he tried to puncture it very lightly with a needle to displace out what he thought was air trapped in the battery. The battery just exploded (literally) almost in his face! "Luckily" he only suffered burns in his hand. What I can say is this: NEVER EVER mess with mobile batteries! Even original ones (as in this situation)! He did not disassemble or incinerate it, yet all this happened. Although I was an admirer of SE phones, right now I am not that convinced. Maybe he was not clever to do what he did to the battery, but not in a million years did he expect that this would happen. I swear (& I mean it) that all that I said is true & it wasn't my intention to harm SE in any way with what I said here.

Opaulim,. same with my phone too.. i though it was my phone's failure so that happens, but then i figured out that the program itself has a bug,. because the only faulty is the ability to send files to the phone... and to remedy the problem,.. better send the file you wanted to put in your phone manually,.. i mean, right click on the file and then click send to: then another computer... if ou are using infrared,.. but if you are using bluetooth,.. better use the driver included in the usb package, or you can use "sony ericsson file manager" that is downloadable at sonyericsson.com... hope this helps...

hi its jay here. the only thing thts bad about this phone is it memory if it had a card slot i would love this fone to bits. at the moment i got 2 songs on the phone but i can put 1 more song on but then it will take most of my memory. the way i put music on is using usb cable and using a thing called musicmatch jukebox then go to my computer then my music then choose what u wont. jay-dean o'neill

To: rahulbrnw you can make this phone stop ringing without rejecting a call... call will still in service or continue but ur speaker get muted temperorly.. so for doing this when a call comes & u dont want to reject that call but only to mute the ringing speaker... please press # key....& if u want not to hear the shutter sound during using the camera... press and hold # key... the shutter sound would stop while snaping... do not forget to press & hold it again... if u want ur fone to ring when a call comes... because this is the procedure to turn ur phone silent...

Hello all S.E. fans! I agree with most of you that it is GREAT mob. phone for money. I love it, especially for design. I can suggest to use very handy dBpowerAMP Music Converter for MP3 (re)compression with 48 kbps ABR MONO sett. LAME encoder (44,1 or 32 KHz almost has no object). In this way you can stuff in phone ~ 20 mins. of FINE sounding music in less than 7 MB space! Another cool thing is 3GP/AMR conversion with 3GPConvert... I have also 2 questions: which is key combination to access brightness/contrast adjusting, FW info etc.? And is it possible somehow to connect USB flash disk as an external storage media for reading/writing? Thank You!

This set is real good. I never faced any problem like low battery or s/w hanging. BTW I have not been able to find this: How to switch off the ringing sound without picking up the phone i.e. the phone is still ringing but ring has temprarily been disabled? I used to do it on my earlier nokia handset by pressing the right side key. Any idea how to do it on Sony Ericsson K300i? Pl. reply on my e-mail. Thanks & regards.

hi guyz! here's another help... for SAM... the phone has to have a standard size of 1.5MB(64kbps) per Mp3 and it already has a good sound quality with unnoticeable differences in a full quality Mp3(128kbps) the phone can contain at least % mp3s... karq... it 's because of the oxide coating covering the terminals oif thie unit... better clean it with a needle and scratch the terminals then charge it again. it will work! Vinayak, if you have infrared or usb cable coonect your phone with it and download and use myphone explorer (downloadable in myk300.lasyk.net) and you can know your firmware... to jay, changing firmware is the best way of removing undeletable files... to david.. my advice for you is to blow the joystick by your mouth and move the joystick circular(but not so hard) softly within 30 seconds, keep trying it until the joystick backs to it's normal navigation... that was based on my experiences and my k300 is now 7 months old, only problem is that the manufacturer's logo is starting to remove/erased, but it's not a big issue... -as of my experiences: K300 beats all nokia's VGA camera phones even SAMSUNG's VGA and Motorola's one... K300's cam is similar to K700's one.. it only lacks details but the color clarity is enormous... -sound aspect: if K300 has card slot, it will be a market hit. everything about sound quality is good(speakers and earphones) except playing .wav files(not that bad either) well guyz if you have something to ask please post in any SE link here in this sitis,.. bye!

Simply K300 is a perfect phone in its class. I bought it not long ago and its more then my expectations. I mean you can play and record videos, snap images, and record voice and all that with 12MB of memory. 1st I was a bit concerned about it camera because it was VGA, but when I start snapping images the result was much better as compare to nokia 6600. recently we went to NWFP for some reason and weather was great there.... and unfortunately we are there without camera, So we snapped Images with SE, Really guys it was more then a VGA, it was nearly 1MP result you can see images on my site in Gallery. Overall i think its a best phone in its price

well i need not add nemore praise about this phone.. all u need to make it a full entertainer is an infrared reader or a USB data cable. then u can put in all kind of games, themes, pics, MP3 and 3gp videos. it is better to further compress the mp3 files to make them less space consuming so that u can stuff ur fone with MORE... at this price it is probably the best fone..

I,ve been using this phone for almost a year and it still working fine as new. Well, most of you may have already know that the joystick sometimes will not functioning well but most of the time after a while of dust cleaning it should be ok. Most probably the mulfuntioning of the joystick is cause by the dust clotting over the navigation piont on the circuit board thus making the rubber joint under the joystick couldn't contact with the circuit.

for Vinayak: you can use 10MB for all of your stuffs if the firmware is R2AT003(my FW) it depends on the firmware installed in the unit, for example: some K300 units can have 6mb of memory but some can use 10MB at least... The USB cable Runs at least 4 times faster than Bluetooth 2.0 ther is no exact transfer rate recorded in the USB/RS232 cable for SE.. but if anyone knows it help this Guy please...

Is there any way to delete some of the preinstalled files which takes up around 6 MB. Some of these files can be deleted but space is not freed up and these files tend to reappear on master reset. Earlier I could not understand why the space is not freed up but after doing master reset, I can understand. Please let me know if there is some way i can delete some of these files.

beautee,.. there are so many site where you could get games: funmaza.com myk300.lasyk.net getjar.com are the 3 of my favorite sites for games... you can search for google.com for the title and download it for free... baby. you better buy USB cable and download my phone explorer in my300.lasyk.net and you can do everything to customize your phone(putting java apps/games, themes, pictures, sounds etc.) that's what i am using in my k300, -BTW, guyz i just wanna have my next SE phone next year maybe. in your opinion, whats better: K750,S700,or P900? two are of SE's best imaging, and one's for one of the best PDA phone ever made before, someone suggest? my needs are: good imaging at nice price, memory slot at least 128 mb, nice display, and also nice design... please reply anyone there...

It's my first time again to post here since last june due to studies in a univ. in php. hehe BTW, RJ, texting in k300i is amazingly fast, just like typing in a PC and sending messages in a great speed... JD,.. the problems you've encountered is probably caused by you lack of experiences in using SE phones... noting that this was your first phone..and Btw. you should consider that every phone needs proper care..and and try it... SE has quality in their phones...my k300 is about 5 months old and no problems at all...

jb, its not sooooo bad! I have mine about a month ago, and only one java app crashed it (I tried a lot!). To silent the ringer, just press # during the call. If you press # in standby it goes to silent mode. If you see closely, there is a music note on the key. If you prefer a Nokia, go ahead and buy it! good luck

This is my 1st non-nokia phone. I just want to try something else. My conclusions: - after 2 weeks of use the infrared get broken and the fix in warranty take 4 weeks; - very bad ergonomy, for example I still dont know how to switch the ring off when somebody calls me (I dont want to give to the other one a bussy tone, I just want to mute the ring tone, and let it ring); - another example, for a contact you can not add 2 mobile entries, or 2 fix or 2 fax entry, etc - this seems so stupid to me; - many java games crash, the same games works perfectly on a nokia 6230i; - this is the last non-nokia phone I brought.

Alex johnson: please consider the fact that it depends on the quality and size of the song to fit into phone... an average, and good quality mp3 is about 1.2-1.5mb(40-48kbps) and a high quality Mp3 is about 3-6mb(96-196kbps) now estimate it on your own: K300i's memory is abuot 12MB but you'll only use 6-10Mb due to the pre-installed files in the firmware,

Daxx, you're wrong indeed, it's camera brightness settings, not screen display settings, to do that.. first send the phone to nearest SE center and ask them to adjust the brightness setting which is standarded in the handset to lower one.(don't worry, they already know that) subject that it is an firmware error or hardware error it it won't work which needs to change to LCD display... please reply here for more info...

To adjust the settings of the screen, go to the menu, then select the camera icon and on the camera mode move your joystick left and right to set the brightness/contrast of the screen.

hellow guyz... well i have my k300i for 5 months,.. let me tell all of you,.. this phone is the best of all the average mobile phones in all time... about the joystick problem,.. i have proven that joystick malfunction is caused by moisture and dust, moisture due to the heat coming from the phone and the sweat from my thumb while pressing w/c evaporates to the phone until it barred the two connecting modules in it. and i solved it by just blowing the joystick and simply rounding the joystick clockwise and counter clockwise(i've done this when i opened m phone and it's easy)... BTW.. tnx for the guyz ther who advises me that(from @Doul of k750, and everyone) bye.,..

im happy with my k300. k300 is much better than some nokia phones like 6170,6020,6070,7260,7360. k300 is simple and yet functional. the down side is the joystick my phone already got a warranty last 3 months that they replace the joystick. but for now on i am very sensitive at the joystick, i never push the middle part as select button, i just use the joystick for up, down, left, right. and the joystick is still 99.9 good condition. the 0.1 reduction is for the past replacement of the joystick. just take care of it always. and youll see no problem. satisfied.

Helloo man So you open two screws by removing the battery cover, there are two more in other two corners, to open them firstly you have to remove the cover of speaker, very next to the battery. Use screw drivers tip to lift the case from both side(slightly above the battery) the push it back, now you can see them, well about joy stick problem, cleaning it really works. Mine is working 100% after cleaning. Wish you good luck.

Hi, im marko from the philippines. i was just looking through the reviews and i found out that plenty people are having a hard time with the USB. well i had that problem to. all you have to do is install the driver. you dont need to install the phone itself. well after you installed it you just need a program that will do the thing for your USB. you can find one in www.myk300.lasyk.net when you get to that page just click the Software icon then it will bring you a list of program providers. click windows softwares. when you get there download the sendfile program. its the best program to organize your phone. if you want more info just IM me in Yahoo messenger. in true sense my K300 is the smallest cheapest and efficient tool to keep. 12mb storage if you feel is insufficient just store your files sending them to one of your free e mail id as attachment using the wap. only problem i faced since one year the joy stick is not smoothly working. otherwise the best one. can any one suggest regarding audio or 3gp streaming in my K300 set.

hey saggi , no problems with the joy stick its been full year now that iam using it still, it doesnot give me a single error and doenot get hanged.the full memory of about 11 MB can be use for image /video capture. no restriction on file limit , unlimited video can be captured.best mp3 tone output. Strongly recommended to all with medium bugdget or else go for SE W850 for everything.just a bad feature around the screen is cstn and also memory cannot be expand further.

Hi guys, wondering if you could help me with my k300i. I have bought a DCU-11 USB cable from ebay but it will not work. When i put the disk provided in, a whole lot of phone models come up with the pictures, but no k300i ! So i just chose another phone (k500i) but then when i open PC suite it says no phone connected. The only thing i can do is transfer the set tones thru MMS editor, but i cannot set as ringtone or anything. Also does anybody know if you can set a polophonic ringtone, MP3 etc as your MSG tone? Alot of other phones have this... I also bought an IRDA Usb key thing from ebay and am excpecting this to arrive soon, and am not sure how to work this. Would really appreciate if somebody could give me some pointers.

you don't need Phone manager for this , your IRDA device function directly whit the PC, you can't move the folders in pc by copy and paste or from your k300 to pc by send via IRDA . sorry by my language but i don't speek very well englesh. G.

A hidden feature of this phone K300 which most users are not aware of That is; it has a bultin black list option, it means u can receive calls only from the list that u have created in that option & the contacts that r not in the list would receive a busy tone signal or a messege from the network provider, here in Pakistan, the messege sounds (the line is busy, plz try later), u can activate this option by: go to setting> Calls > Manage Calls> Accept calls> press ONLY FROM LIST, after doing this the phone will ask to add contacts & take u to the phone book, select the contacts or groups u want to receive calls from, u can add a maximum of 12 contacts & if u want to add more, than u have to create groups in the phone book & than add them as a group....by doing this ur phone will ring only if someone from the list calls u, & if someone who is not in the list, u will receive a missed call,....(this feature is also available in all SE K series phones)... bye...if u have any questions, u r wellcome

Today i m going to tell u a feature of this phone which most users of K300 does'nt know. "This phone has a Builtin Black list option" not fully in all areas but it works fine here in Pakistan. you can put at least 12 contacts in that list & if 1 of them tries to call u, he will hear the auto messege "The line is busy, try later" (auto mesege depends upon the gsm network provider), here is the way to create ur own black list> go to settings> Calls >Manage Calls > click Accept calls > click only from list> Press Edit, this will take u to the phone book select the contacts u want to block, u can add 12 contacts max, if u want more u can do so by creating groups in phone book, then go to the list & select that group,... its easy...., contact me if u need more assistance...

sanjeen, theres no light/sound indication of full charge, only thing that indicates full battery was the battery status in your display is full and not moving anymore, peter, it is clear that the file you've download is protected by voda and not transferrable, so they can have money,,, one advise, just download on other sites for tones and etc. read the previous post and you'll see many sites offering those downloads

apporva, the number of mp3s,amr depends on it's available memory of it's purchase and the bit rate of the sound quality. some k300s have 6mb shared memory and some have 10.9mb(which is me)... but i tell you... a good quality (56-64kbps) .MP3 is about 1.5-1.8mb and a standard .AMR is abt. 300-450KB. i have stored 5 MP3s of (64kbps) in my memory of 10.9MB,.. it depends on bit rate and memory available...

Marko Altomonte Yeah I know man upgrading is not the child's play i had the experience of upgrading the firmware of w800i( that actually belonged to my cousin) for a couple of times and on both of the occassions nothing went wrong but i don't know what the damn thing happened when it came to my own phone. And lemme tell you one thing upgrading using the deskstand is much easier as compared to using the fast port. But it's of no worries for me My phone is still in the warranty period i can claim it at any time just waiting for my university term to end and i'll get it reflashed but of course after making a couple of tries again by reinstalling my whole operating system. apoorva, the blue one looks better. i have the blue one and it looks very classic and sporty... uetian. bring your phone to the nearest SE center. you have to keep in your mind that updating firmware isn't that easy especially if people don't have experiences. in that case the firmware got big problems that upgrading or reflashing is needed.

Hi guys i had a problem with my set can any body tell me what can i do to get remedy from that: The problem is yesterday i tried to update the firmware of my k300i everything was goin well, the updated software was downloaded but when the program was writing the update file to my mobile and when the progress reached upto 99% the update service software returned an error that update failed and asked me to retry i retried for many times but it always says that i have the latest update no update available, Now come to the problem the effect this errorneous update casted on my mobile was to damage the camera display, there are nothing except the green vertical lines whenever i turn on the camera so can any kind soul tell me how can i get rid to this problem of course without reflashing the previuos software, Thanks in advance o yeah i forgot to tell that i used Sony ericsson update service to update my phone's firmware.

hey guyss ive got a new file manager for SE k-series phones (also k300i) visit and download the file it's got a java game/app installer and better file manager than the older one you can also see the memory status, hardware monitor (temperature of phone and battery) battery status, calls/messages/contacts manager its the best software manager right now i have just download it free. frm that site. it's only hot 2.0mb of size and contains all that i have mentioned.. try it out...

Once again I am writing this for some help from you. My K300i came preload with 2 video and 2 audio song leaving only 6 MB for my use. To regain the space I have deleted these files but could not see increase in space. As per specification given K300i has 12 MB free space and any way, I need atleast 10 MB would be enough for me. cezar, KB when converted to Mb, 11630kb = 10.9 MB and my phone status on standby shows same memory status as shown in file manager.My K300i has only around 6 MB free memory as it came preloaded with 2 hindi mp3 song (1.2 MB each), 2 bollywood song video (1.2 MB each) and some tennis star photographs other than some other small files (these files can be deleted but cannot be copied). Now when I deleted those deletable files, I could not get free space generated and nor could I restore the files I have deleted.

debasis that maybe caused by your firmware/SW because in my k300 i could even have more than 10 mb memory (11630kb) but when i look at the memory status at file manager it shows only 10.9 MB but when i look at the standby mode at phone status it shows the real free memory of my phone 11,630kb it might be 12mb but because of the protected files installed i can't have that maximum. regarding on your problem some files even deleted does'nt freed up your memory. that's because the stuffs are permanently installed in your phone. tip: try looking at the memory at the standby mode on more button and phone status it will show your real memory (the tip worked on me) if it shows the same size in the file manager, that maybe because of your firmware has permanent stuffs and cannot free your memory...

To connect PC with K300i, you need DCU-11 cable and driver CD which have drivers for DCU-11 and k300i. Or this can be download from Sony Ericsson Website. Also you need software for accessing the mobile viz. like MobilEdit!2.06, floAt's Mobile Agent etc available in internet. More you must have some knowledge of software installation. I have K300i for while. And I have lots of games, themes, and pictures for download to k300i. I have download them from my PC to k300i. To get additional free space, i have deleted some bundled default mp3 files of about 1.5 MB. But alas ! there was no additional space created. Please someone help !

chino here are some sites for download of ringtone www.mobango.com(needs registration but registration is free) if you want to download any ringtone got to www.google.com and type the title of the song together with the file extension (.midi,mid)and you'll get man sites that has ringtones in that format many sites are free download with no registration except mp3 files i tried it and i got many polytones and mp3s here in my phone. in www.zedge.no you'll find many free mp3 tones there but needs free registration...

Julie, try looking for other SE centers there if there are other or else try looking for a trusted phone shop to repair your unit. but i have helped one user before (namely priyoban) also has a similar problem with you and charge him a bit lot of money. this is his statement: my fone was under warr so I went to SE. They opened up the fone for me, and I saw that one of the transistors had caught fungus on the pcb. But I don't think that was the problem, but that made my warr void neway, some water must've creeped in through the bottom end of the fone where the charger interface is there. Well neway told them to change the firmware, coz I don't think a damp transistor should slow down the fone, and ya they also told me that it could be a firmware prob. They're gonna take an equivalent of 10 dollars in my currency, so thought what the hell, might as well let them do it. S he do take it to SE center.

I loved this phone UNTIL the charging unit on the phone broke after very little use. My average bill is �3 per month & I bought it in mid October 2005 I returned the phone to Sony's authorised repair centre & then received a letter saying that to repair the fault would cost me �47!!!! I paid �54 for it! Looking at Kelkoo's website other customers have had the same problem but Sony will not admit there is an issue with this phone & will not budge! Should I pay up? I don't think so.I am still battling it out with the call centre managers who have said "As a gesture of goodwill they will return the phone to me - still broken - for no charge!" Gopi... what i mean is about the USB infrared port that can help you transfer files from phone to PC or vice versa. i have my own Mobile Action 620 and 660 USB infrared adapter and it cost 1500 php here in Philippines about $28+ and it is compatible with any infrared-enabled phones,PDA,laptops. it also comes with a file manager software for NOKIA,SE,SAMSUNG,SIEMENS and free 100-500 ringtones if possible... open the Mobile Action website and find the infrared adapter MA-660/620 and where it is available... it is widely available to buy... just search it from your place... in front of the mouse-like infrared device you can also see the black window portion i am telling about see for yourself... please reply if you have further questions and i will help you as far as i could... Allyl & Gopi... the best device to use in uploading files and aplications (pictures, videos, games, softwares, mp3s etc.) is through Infrared adapter why? coz you don't need a file manager anymore i have tested this with my windows XP os and 98. to do it, you must turn on infrared and face the top part of the phone to the black window portion of the device then an (IR)icon will appear in the task bar. and just right click the file you wish to send (in desktop or folder you opened) and choose SEND TO: then ANOTHER COMPUTER and then it will work perfectly. i often send games and apps with Infrared. and infrared is a bit slower than USB coz it's wireless. cables are obviously faster than any wireless devices. just reply if you need more precise infos...

Kart if you cannot free your memory even you reset the settings, it maybe your phone's firmware files are copyright-protected ,advise is you'll need to upgrade it coz the files are copyright-protected by SE and cannot delete even you reset it. so you'll need to upgrade to remove the pre-installed files or to change it. but you better take it to a costumer center for further help and support...

But i dont want that videos, mp3s and pic and otherdata provided such as games.I want more free space. when i deleted that stuff am not getting free sapce. that stuff is still there in my phone. Mish - i mean, there's no solution in your problem because Vodafone charges text messaging at that rate, you know here in philippines Smart and Globe telecomunications charges text at 160 characters and i thought this as a default rate to all networks in the world, but just as i said if there's other network which charges at 160 chars there in your location, you better switch to that network or if you don't, changing of your model to nokia is the better way, that is if you'll sacrifices all k300's key features into one better feature(character counting in nokia) it's up to you, Pardon me in the previous post coz i have been disconnected there so i din't managed to write my help...

Brilliant phone, tops for price. I tested a Nokia 3120 for a few days and took it back to the store for an exchange for the K300i(Dick Smith Electronics here in New Zealand, they give you a 2 week return period). Much better than the Nokia, or similar Nokias & other phones in this price range. Great colour screen, not the 4k colours of the Nokia. Records voice and other sounds! Simple to take photos of whatever scene is on the computer screen and turn it into K300 wallpaper. Excellent speaker volume (rings and phone voice). Paid only $188 NZD (= $116 USD), with SIM card. OK, the battery is about 25% less capacity than the Nokia, but this still should be fine if kept on power-saving and if you don't play games all the time! My next fun will be trying the infrared port to connect with my laptop! I have recorded my own ringtones using the built in microphone and recorder, holding it next to the computer speakers (MP3s)and the quality is good. Downloading from the web or via a computer will give even better quality sound. BTW, go to www.sonyericsson.com and read the FAQs and other tips for this phone!

erick,,, you cannot permanently turn on your loudspeaker intead during calls. it's because maybe of privacy for your own if any important or private conversations occur. in every call you have turned on the speaker it will be back to earpiece after that... so no luck for that...

Its true that file moved to OTHER folder after copying, That just happens if SE k300i does'nt recognise the format of the file, Test it by copying MP4 file, That'll automatically move to OTHER folder Cause it can play MP3 not MP4, & if u want to move any file to OTHER folder, its impossible ...

Abhijit... tariq awan is right. sorry i did'nt get your real point before. anyway, master reset can be the best way to delete your files, just select master reset under the settings menu. ther are two options, reset settings and reset all. hit reset all and it will erase all your files including all settings, profiles in wap, images, sounds etc. i agree with RGB also that when you rest the phone, it must be fully charged because consequences are fatal, it's true according to my experiences... ANGEL... you cannot not copy the jar file on other folder but anyway you also don't have to put your files in other folder to install games in your phone, just send the file via irda(if you have) and it will automatically install without any processes. how? 1. on you desktop (for windows operating computer systems) right click the jar file and click send and then to a nearby computer and it will auto install while sending, this is effective using irda... tariq awan thnx for ur advises regarding conversion of jad,SIS to jar files... guyz SE becomes 3rd on ranking just look at the rankongs at this site, SE's gotta doing good job...

This is really a cool phone in a cheap price. Even the display is CSTN but the images look GREAT If they're used as a wallpaper (128x96) or as a screen saver thats 128x128 & if ur looking for some kool games then just hit it you just need to rename the files like .SIS & .JAD to .JAR & it'll work just fine ... Abhijit here's a answer to your question, If u want to reset your phone to delete every thing Which includes Data,Contacts, Music, Games ETC then hit Master Reset. If you want your images to be crisper & clear then go to camera > More > Picture Quality & select fine, Caution: The images size will be more then normal but it'll be GREAT PIC. All Images on my MSN Space is captured by My K3ooi Have a look @ it by your selfs ... !

cezar... Its not just about free memory, its about the total memory. The free memory reported in Phone Status on standby screen and Memory status in file manager are the same. The total memory if you add up all the values in the Memory Status in file manager was 10.9 in the beginning. Now its 8.1 MB. Whats hapenning is if you delete a deletable file that was in the phone when you purchased it, the file doesn't show up. Neither the memory gets freed for this file. If you reset the phone, the file shows up again. So the file doesn't get really deleted. I would like to know if there is any way of deleting the files present initially in the phone, which are supposed to be deleted (Not the predefined files) and free up the memory also.

Mish regarding to your problem, go to seetings on messaging. then go to text messages, after that go to max. msg available and choose fit into one message, that's approximately 160 characters and you will not be able to type over 160 characters. i have test this and it's effective... to all users you can look for it's stuffs at google.com, just type the name of the file and it will bring you to any web sites and good news many of them offers free download. but be careful of the pop ups and any registration coz it may spy you computer byt adwares anything... hope this helps...

So far I love it :) Was hard to get used to at first (as I had only ever used Nokias or Motorolas) but now I find it just as easy. My only complaint is that it doesnt have a letter count for when I'm sending sms, so I never know how long my message is.

Abhijit... where do you check for it's free memory? is it on the file manager or in the standby mode? if it is in File manager don't worry because even you delete files on it the memory status will not change. it will only show 10.9MB free and not more than that. look at standby mode and click more, the phone status and you will see how much your memory has after deleting files. please report me after this to be able to help you in your problem... jebjeb... yes you can download though it's not that fast to download coz the speed of an irda is about 115kbps (standard infrared) if you want faster download use Usb cable for it so more faster you can download. :advise, compress Mp3's of up to 20kbps and you can save more space. clearness of sounds are just similar to a high quality mp3 when heard in speakerphone. u may use musicmatch to do it.

Regarding the memory problem that I had posted earlier, I have found out that when I got the phone, the sum of all the values in Memory Status added up to around 10.9 MB. After deleting a 1.9 MB video file, the memory didnt get freed up and the Memory status added up to 8.7 MB and now I have been noticing that its 8.1 MB. Where has all these memory gone? I think it sometimes happens that even if an item gets deleted, memory doesnt get freed up. 'Deepthought' had the same problem. Is there any software that will allow me to view all the contents of the phone directly. Is there any way to free up this memory? Please help.

To Libran Guy My suggestion is that, 1st attach ur phone wid the pc put the CD in the PC and follow the Screen, if ur Pc says new hardware found then proceed and make ur pc to seach for the driver, select CD, and look what happens if ur pc auto detect the right driver that is really nice, otherwise u can manully install the K500's driver, because both K300 & k500 are same in hardware except the screen.

To Francis: Mr cezar is right the default code for this phone is 0000 (the same which u have set to lock ur phone) otherwise if u have not set any code previously then the default code will work that is 0000, (remember onceagain that make sure ur phone's battery is full before u proceed)

Francis,,, the default code of the phone is 0000(zero,zero,zero,zero) if this don't work go to the manual and look for it's code. don't worry if you fail to type the code correctly coz it's only a security code (similar in nokia)and different from PIN code.

Here is a Tip for all of you who have some problems wid this phone, such as slow downs, errors, or any other problem of this fone...Just do this simple steps...and ur fone become brand new onceagain & will work perfectly as u want..."Main menu> Setting> General> Master Reset> Reset Settings" (In Master reset menu click only Reset Setting, this will not delete any of ur data, If u press "reset all" u will lose all ur phone data, so I recommend plz click "RESET SETTINGS" only, (AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BATTERY IS FULL otherwize if the process is intrupted due to low battery...consiquences would be Fatal...)

jason,,, the k300 can play realtones: mp3,wav,amr(short for voice-record)and 40 channel polytones files as ringtones.... to the guy below you... the phone can record 2hrs+ of sound if the phone is free on memory(12mb) my measurement of it was 2hrs,40minutes... i don't know if some users are the same also...

taimur, not yet bro. i will only upgrade my phone when the programs got errors or becomes old. my phone is now one month old so i don't see any reason of upgrading it. but i don't conradict your decision of upgrading but some upgrades could cause more errors. just like my friend here in php. her phone was upgtaded to an small mobile phone shop in a mall. after upgrading the phone the changes is considerable, it is faster, but when i connect it to pc suite, the phone is not supported it the pc suite said. by the way it is a nokia 6020. so don't worry, fake firmwares are rare with SE thats why i really support SE phones and my k300. and can you also reply if your phone had some better changes after upgrading. by the way whenever you needed help just chat me in this site. good luck...

to the guy below me. you are facing two probable problems: software or firmware error when manufacturing which needs upgrade or reinstalling firmware. and full memory if i am right, then try to free some memory to your fone and restart it again if still won't work you need to upgrade/ repair the firmware. taimur... installing of firmware is not as easy as you are thinking. you will have to look for a software for installing flashes in your fone before you can install the firmware. you better go to the SE costumer center to upgrade the firmware. and please don't be desperate to install the fone (if you have not yet an experienced mobile software especialist on SE models or even first timers if i am right but sorry if wrong) coz you may damage your software. dude you better go to SE center for upgrade. good luck for the your upgrade

Hi, I've been using this phone for a couple of months now. However i'm facing a bit of a problem now, i'm wondering whether anyone has a solution. The fone works at the usual speed at the first instance when i switch it on. But after I receive a call and then disconnect the fone becomes really slow, and all the java applications also become really slow. Also sometimes the fone suddenly restarts. tainum... it is imposible to update you firmware via infrared, you will need a serial/usb cable todo it cause it will take long time before you can upgrade your firmware infrered is too sluglish in sending datas. and please don't do it coz it will possibly destroy the unit if the wireless link from pc to mobile was interupted. you will need a cable in order to do it... and to the guy above you... stop criticizing k300's joystick. and don't jusge it's memory coz it the best in it's class. even siemens will be no match in k300's specs and performance. the real thing why we prefer to this mobile is that it's price is perfect for a high performance phone. (mp3,mpeg4,Vga camera interpolated to 1.3 mp, 12mb ram compared to nokia 6020 2.3mb and siemens c70 10mb0 to all k300 fans, i disagree to this guy. sorry

unfortunately zoom view for images is not possible in K300. But u can view 340X240 and 120X160 images in zoom mode (in image editor). Go to image options>use>edit. U can see full image for editing.

it's my phone's first month since i bought it here in php. the joystick: still in good condition, just handle it with care so that it wont make failures. and abt the speaker i have stated that time: the speaker produces craking sound because the speaker has no bass but the earphones. you can hear. this situation is usually occur when you have put a song with a very high bass. WAV files are also supported in phone but is not advisable to play cause it sounds cracking also another is that it eats too much memory so you prefer to mp3 that has a better sound quality in small size. for those who wants to install mp3s even the phone has only 12MB ram, compress the mp3 at least 16-18kbps using musicmatch (convert files in the menu at the top) the quality is till good in the speaker but you can barely hear it in the earphone at better quality. K300 has all i need at this generation. the only drawback is the memory but still enough for storage of anything! i really love it!

Joystick is good too, only we should learn to use it smooth n softly. Then only it gives best results and I think K300 joystick is better than any higher class Nokia phones.

hey guyz... for those complaining abt the joystick and the speaker this is what i observed. joystick can be your worst hindrance for your phone if you persist to use it without proper discipline of taking care of it. i mean i you use your joystick very hard. another is the manufactuing of the product do you know only few of you does complains abt that issue? because here in the php, we all got k700,k300,k500 which has joystick as navigation key. but no one complains abt it except the only who presses hard on it's joystick making it loose to key in. so stop insisting that joystick is caused by dust or anything like that. speaker of the k300 is good and for some complaining the speaker it's because of the manufacture of the product is not good here on your location. again here in the php, ther is no issue abt that. only the people that lacks discipline easily damages their own phone and SE has no responsibility of your faults... so please. stop blaming SE for your own faults. handle your phone just like your bestfriends. use with care!

Hi friends !! This is indeed a excellent phone. It has so many feaures with its cute small design. If properly used camera takes excellent images. Some tips for good photos on K300 which I found good. **Don't shake ur hand when pressing capture button, hold still. ** Always start camera with side button on standby mode. which gives good speed to camera. ** Don't use cam if images moving slowly. Which blurres the images and video. Switch off and restart the phone to get speed in movement. ** Use shortcut buttons when taking pictures... press 1 for changing resolution, 2 for night mode, 3 for effects, 4 for timer. ** Using night mode not good some time, it gives grainy image..Avoid using it, utilise the availabe light. ** 640X480 is good for PC view. For wall papers use smallest resolution which will save memory. ** Turning silent mode will turn off the camera sound (Not all phones,depends on firmaware) ** Small resolution for video is good Hope these tips helps u.. just like peter chua, im impressed to my phone k300i. im here in philippines and all i want to say is that SE is now very popular in this country but still nokia is most in it's no. of users. before i want to buy a 3220 because k300i is too expensive for my budget but good thing my parents helped me and give me more money just to buy that phone and no disappointed even though 3220 has a TFT LCD, k300i has everything i needed except radio and the major drawback is the LCD: STN but enough to view pictures clearly. aside from that, 3220 has only 2.5MB memory while k300i has 12Mb which is enough for me. my video recorder exceeds up to 30 minutes in 12Mb memory in 128x96 pixel size and 10-12minutes in 176x144 pixels. i can hold Mp3s for much if i compress that using musicmatch. even though it is low quality, still the music is still very good in the speaker and headset but a bit lower in it's volume due to the compression, i compress it up to 500-600kb and my phone can contain 20-24 mp3s. nice right? my k300 exceeds everything i needed and it's camera is better than 6600, 6230 and 6020 nokias i've tested that before. As i know SE produced k310 which is also cheap! yepee! nice SE! Nice!

to misay... you infrared(irda) can send and recieve any files at any format so you can use it at a file holder 12mb is enough for carrying office files or 3-4 mp3s. you dont need cables no more because you have ir all you have to do is to buy an infrared adapter(if you own a desktop PC) and download Sony ericsson pc suite for k-series phones

k500 is same as k300 but has other plastic shell, better and bigger display, antenna connector on backside (which can conect to car antenna) and lens protector f500 is same as k500 but specified for Vodafone only so you get Vodafones ugly user interface (imho) All inside is the same; same camera/video, battery etc including functionality. Menus look a little different since the K300 LCD is a bit smaller.

Look Colnoguy..I am not into software update a much as I want to know why I can't use the DCU-11 cable for update. Have I bought the wrong stuff? That means I still need desktand for updates and that I can't use this Dcu-11 for K700 f.e.? The ofical web site SE offers deskstand DSS-25 and USb DCU-60 as help gear to do updates. In SE shop I visited the clerk said DCu-60 is not compatible with k300i and that I need DCU-11. I installed program for updates from SE web site and connected the mobile but on screen message goes..."deskstand not conneceted"..so DCU-11 is useles for updates?

Hi I'm trying to migrate from Motorola C350 to some other phone. Till I saw K300 I was thinking of going for Nokia 6030. However one issue remains. I wish to know how good is the battery backup of Sony Ericsson phones after they are more than a year old as I dont change phones frequently. In fact Nokia has very good power saving mechanisms. Justas, you have 2 options for video - one is "MMS"-format which is around 10 s so that you can send the video via MMS. The other is unlimited which means as much memory as you have left.

this phone has got the best battery life outta all se phones. moreover the keypad is among the best along with the metal lined soft keys and the low leveled back and delete buttons. in short ergonomics is awesome :-) . the cam picture quality is really good but you wont notice it on d mobile screen as the small screen shrinks the image. try sending it to the comp and the pic really looks Gr8:-) .

there may be some stuff that is too heavy.to find itgo to file manager and click "more" in right down corner.Then click" Memory Status" Find out the item which is heavy and delete it. Resetting phone every time doesnt solve the problem. Beter to use Memory status utility in file manager. this will cure your problem.

JuanPablo, a "normal" VGA picture can range anywhere between 15-50 kB depending on light conditions etc. There is between 10-12 MB free memory for the user depending if you buy a normal K300 or one with heavy operator customization as Vodafone or Orange. If you don't use the memory for ringtones, games etc you will have space for around 300-500 pictures (worst case - best case)

Lourenco, it's actually quite possible that your problems are due to that it is a Orange handset, since handsets to the large operators are heavily customized; meaning that these operators delete some functionality and other functionality. Perhaps someone else with an Orange-K300 can check this out and help? If the same problem is on the other Orange-K300 this is due to this custimization. This custimization cannot be deleted or changed without voiding the guarantee.

Abhijit, as a last resort, you can try a master reset. However, a master rese will delete all personal data in the phone, such as contacts not saved in sim-card, downloaded photos, games, ringtones etc.

Coolnagoguy, I have tried to fill up. In fact I have tried everything. Now Only around 8.7 MB of memory is usable. This happened after I deleted a Video (K300i_TVC) of size 1.9 MB for which the memory didn't get freed up. Is there any way to access the exact contents of the phone through computer or so.

if u hv 3 options on ur note and ur brother have 4 options then i may not help it.do 1 thing you can do is reset setting only( not reset all)then again make a fresh note.follow what i said in my article and then see.

Thanks for your explanation Ranjam, but please, read the opnion that I've mentioned before. Using my k300, I can not use notes in stand-by mode. When I go to the saved note, and press "more", I've just three options: edit, send or delete. I'm just looking for an answer for this. What I've to do to make this option "appears" to me? I have faced one problem. After I have deleted certain items, the memory doesnt gets freed up. Earlier my total memory summed up to 10.9 MB but now if I add up, its 8.4 MB. Once it happened that I deleted a 1.9 MB file (K300i_TVC) from videos, the file was successfully deleted but memory didn't get freed up. How can I free up this memory. Can anybody help.

Calvert, a) there is no specific stereo headset targeted for this phone as it only supports mono. Using a stereo headset will give the same (mono) sounds on left/right. b) IMHO it is quicker to use USB than IR. Specifically transferring many files with drag and drop from the PC is much quicker as one doesn't have the hassle of aligning the IR windows all the time. On the other hand using USB cable is more expensive and the question is if it is worth the investment (how many times will one move so many files - in reality)?

MAY I HAVE THE KIND ATTENTION OF HONOURABLE SONY ERICSSON USERS PLEASE! Here I would like to introduce an extra but undiscovered feature which is extremely important for the safety of your beloved SE. We all know that if we do not use mobile straps connected with belts or neck then there are higher chances of dropping it in public places especially when our mind is indulge in some other activity. For example going to office and trying to catch metro rail, bus etc. and if your phone is lost (god forbid!) then you might hope that that honest person who will get the phone will return it. In case if that case he will try to search your address in your phone and if he couldn�t find it then he might probably give it to police station. So, why shouldn�t we use a useful feature that will flash your name, address and phone no. on the standby screen! I am sure that after completing this small task you will thank the Sony Ericsson and may be to me also ;) Ok do the following:- 1. Press the joystick and reach to the 12 icon main menu. 2. Go to the organizer or simply press 0. 3. Press 3 or go to �Notes�. 4. Press �New Note� and write your Name, Address, Phone no. etc and press �Save�. (Please note that if you write any irrelevant information then it might not show on standby screen as there is a space of 4-5 lines (K700i) on the standby screen. The best way is to do experiment with your information and see how many lines are reflecting) 5. After saving it move joystick downwards to your note. 6. You will see �More� in the right down corner. Press it and select �Show in Standby�. 7. Press the back key for a second to come directly to standby screen. 8. Done Now you can see your Contact information right on your desktop and if that honest person gets your phone, he will simply read the information and give it back to you. PLEASE DO NOTE THAT THE PHONE NUMBER THAT YOU USE IN YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION SHOULD NOT BE THE NUMBER OF YOUR MOBILE, IT SHOULD BE YOUR HOME NUMBER OR ANY OTHER NUMBER WHERE YOU CAN BE EASILY CONTACTED. Send yourself a SMS in which there will be your contact information as in case if someone directly goes to your inbox then he will read the SMS where your contacts are given. I have saved my own mobile number with the name �PLEASE READ�. When I sent that SMS to me, the sender name that reflected in inbox was �PLEASE READ�. In case if that person reach to the inbox, there are chances that will read the �PLEASE READ� Message. There is also a small tip about standby note that if you select off in the �Cell information� menu, you will get an extra line in your standby screen. To those people who do not know what �cell info.� Is, I want to tell them that this is a free service in which the place where you are at present is reflected on your standby screen below the operator name. To activate, do following;- 1. Go to Messaging 2. Move Joystick upwards and reach �settings� {moving downwards will take 10 moves(K700i) of joystick } 3. Under �Settings� Press �Area info� or directly press 4 4. Move the Joystick to �Cell information� and select �on�( TIP:- under area info menu select everything on as these are useful services) 5. Go back to standby screen. 6. In few seconds you will read the current place name on your screen. 7. Please note that this service is operator dependent service. Your operator might not support it. But there are chances that soon it will be activated on your network because Lot of networks around the world provides this service. So select ON as you wouldn�t loose anything by just selecting it. The last entertainment related tip that I want to share with you is that when you listen you MP3/MP4 etc on your phone with provided Stereo Headset do the following:- 1. Select �MORE� at right down corner and select Equalizer. 2. Select �MANUAL� and move the joystick upwards to boost all the values of graphic equalizer. 3. Now listen to the music. Next time your loved ones will find your phone attached with headphone all the time. I hope that you will share above given information with your friends and in different internet forums. Next time DURING THE CALL (can't do this if you do not have an ongoing call) push the joystick to the right (this increases volume) Do this several times if needed (look at the screen and you can see filled and undfilled staples indicating volume). If the problem persists despite this, return the phone.

Hi, I bought this phone 3 months ago and was quite impressed with the sound quality, picture, video etc..then suddenly the sound deteriorated and i wasn't able to hear people talking to me!! the ring volume is still good and loud but hearing people is a nightmare. If i am talking at home i have to ask my caller to talk really loud and if i get a call while walking in a busy road forgt it! has anyone got the same problem as me?? is there any option in the phone to adjust the sound that i'm not aware of? please reply to me if you have any ideas. texas, there is no guarantee for this. The only products with guaranteed adabtability seems to be old Ericsson products. As you can see it is an old Ericsson accessory (not SONY Ericsson). I doubt that Sony Ericsson has tested it towards their new products. Also, if you look in the K300i I don't find anything in the menus (usually they are greylisted before the accessory is plugged in and blacklisted when the accessory is plugged in).

hey i bought this fone a few weeks ago and just purchased the USB cable to transfer files, i have downloaded and installed everything that has been mentioned in this forum, how ever my comptuer does not seem to pick up that my fone is connected. ive installed new hardware, but it was installed as a modem or sumthin, i have had my fone connected to my computer tho but the connection has not lasted, all help would be appreicated

Crazy Monkey, check out Z520 which has a similar feature set to K300 but also has Bluetooth. Or check out K700 which is much cheaper now.

JJ, the reason you have problems when copying contact details from phone to sim is that you are using another phone which has simpler user interface than K300i. As soon as you identify a phone number as a mobile phone number, the K300i will label it with the "/M" suffix. This will not be seen on the screen in the k300i but it will be seen in phones with simpler user interface than K300i.

Sophie, You can't turn off the sound the camera makes.There is a simple way you can turn it off , using the silent mode, pressing and holding (#).

I solved the problem with the USB Cable.. it wasn't the cable or software, the problem was in the USB ports. I started changing values on the COM1 to COM6 ports and finally worked.! I originally had COM1 enabled (it wasn't reserved) and the other ports disabled. That way wasn't working for me, but I disable port COM1 and enabled COM5 and COM6 and reserved the ports for the cell phone and it worked! :)

My data cable problem is solved. Guys, if your phone is getting detected as My Unknown instad of K300i, go to and download and install the File Manager and check again The problem will be solved. Old version of file manager available in the CD may not detect your K300i. I just transferred my favourite song into my phone :) it sounds good.

Hi. I just bought a SE K300a a month ago and the original USB Cable DCU-11. I tried to install it several times in my computer but the software doesn't seem to "see" the cell phone is plugged in. I went to the store i bought it and they installed the cell phone in their computer and it worked just fine. I did exactly the same thing in my computer but still nothing happened. I also tried using the software from SE website and didn't work either. Both computers (mine and the one in the store) have windows XP. Does anyone have any idea to make it work?

Thank you, Colnagoguy. The first data cable I got was an original SE. It didn't work with my handset. Now this "pirated" data cable I tried with other SE phones and it worked fine. Only with my phone it has a problem. I think it might be a handset issue. Will get a replacement soon. Thanks anyways.

If you buy an original DCU-11 from Sony Ericsson you receive installation software with it that works. Essentially if you have bought a pirate you will have to ask for support from those you bought the pirate from. Yesterday I took the cable to the dealer and got a replacement. Now the phone gets detected as My Unknown and the file manager is able to access all folders but no files are shown. When I try to drag and drop some files it tells me "unable to copy - the operation has been aborted" This data cable does not come in a SE packaging. Some users of branded Sony Ericsson phones may have trouble playing MP3's, or using them as ringtones. This is because the MP3 files need to be DRM encoded for them to work. You can do this by using the Sony Ericsson DRM Packager software. Just search for it in Google.

rajesh, 1. LCD contrast setting =========================== actually, it works anyway! Just continue to move the joystick left/right and press star etc, despite what the screen says! This is not really meant for "normal" users but for service centers etc. Just follow the guide and suddenly the LCD will turn into service settings. If it fails, try again. You probably pressed wrong. This works on all Ericsson and Sony Ericsson phones. 2. Record ongoing call ========================= Two ways- a) During the actual call, press the joystick down. Select "Record". Turn off when you wish. b) During the actual call, shortcut for this is - press joystick and then press "2" (2nd option in menu).

Jondo, it depends on which ring tone you use. All phones have different accoustic profiles, which sound better at certain frequencies. If you play around with different ring tones you will find that some sound louder than others.

Hi, I'm from Mexico, I bought this phone last year (october)and it's great, it has worked for me perfectly. The menu it's quite simple although some friends of mine say that it's quite confusing, the T9 is very good and it allows you to introduce your own words and save them in the memory so you can use them later without problems; the sound it's quite decent but the pictures are not that good, I think it's a very good phone and it's price is worth for every characteristic it has. It is very popular here in mexico because it's cheap and simple, I strongly recommend it! :D

I think the PC suite CD I got is one prior to release of K300i. Almost all other phones are supported. And thanks for the contrast setting mechanism. It really made a difference in my phone display. I love this phone. Its IR is good and the camera is very good considering the price range. MusicDJ rocks.

This is a great phone, but one BIG downside is the fact that you CAN'T CHANGE THE MESSAGE ALERT TONE! I hope i knew that before... i would bought a very similar SE model but with that characteristic ^^ Fortunately there are those who say that if you upgrade the Firmware, during that process you can select the default message alert tones, and that WOULD be the good point. Besides, it's a great phone.

Thanx Colnagoguy, but its sad news for me. Ppl who have probs with file manager not connecting with phone try this- Go to Control panel-system-harware-device manager � ports(COM & LPT). Identify the port that your phone is connected to. And on the phone monitor programme, enable that COM port.

Ana, you've got to buy DCU-11 cable with the driver disc separately, as far as I know it's not included in the phone package. After having bought, install the driver, additional software for your phone and use it to synchronize the device with your PC.

I have SE K300i and DCU-11 cable . I use MyPhoneExplorer to view my files on my mobile. Most of times, when I try to connect, it says "could not open COM port." A few time only, I was able to connect. Same thing with SE PC Suite and Float's Mobile Agent. Also, tell me what speed setting should I use. I have USB 2.0. Please help.

Michael, Deshan; The camera sound noise is present in many K300 phones due to legal issues in these countries or due to operator demands (fear of helping people taking "naughty" photos). Due to these demands, Sony Ericsson has a software in some countries which always has the camera sound ON. Due to software requirements Sony Ericsson has this software fix in all languages which have corresponding countries/operators with these demands. They can even even have it for all countries in the same batch of countries. Essentially; either you have the possibility to turn it off via silent mode or not (just try and see). You CAN fix this problem by changing the software, but then you void the guarantee, since Sony Ericsson will not do this. The question is if it is worth all the hassle?

vince, Difference betwn ctn screen and tft screen is that TFT has much better quality. TFT also sucks up more battery. IF LCD is important for you then go for TFT.

I connect my k300i phone with a DCU-11 data cable. It worked fine with my earlier PC(810e Motherboard, 1.1 USB). Since, I got a new PC(Intel D101GGC Mobo,2.0 USB), it has worked only once, that too after a lot tinkering around. But, it just fails to work. The yellow checkmark just goes on blinking and doesnt turn green. Can anyone say what the problem is?

BTW 2 all those desperately trying to connect their phone to a PC. After having messed up with various drivers for DCU-11 I finally managed to establish connection with the "native" cable's driver on the CD and installed Float's Mobile Agent 2. Works fine for now. If you've got the cable but ain't got drivers, you may write here your mail and I'll send you the driver, I think it's worth trying, though I give no guarantee.

Hello, it's an absolutely fascinating phone (my brother owns it, I wouldn't by it due to its size (too small for me)). The menu is outstanding, battery life - awesome, have been working for a week already...lots of functions...a decent voice recorder...pretty cool device for such a class. BUT: I can't find an answering machine there, thought it should be. The manual says: you can manage your answering machine with tone signals..bla bla...Or was it only voice mail, that had been meant there, and no answ. machine (i.e. a function that lets you record a message to a calling person, the latter being able to leave you a voice note after a signal)? Your PC probably doesnt have one, try buying a USB connected one. Go to the MP3 you want to make as a tone, click MORE, then USE, AS RINGTONE. Done ;)

Hey Michael I've tried the camera in silent mode but it still makes that huge clicking sound. I went to settings-sounds and alerts-silent mode (on). Is my phone faulty or what ? Can anybody else try this and see ? Please do tell.

I dont think you can change the display light because you can go through menus while on a call. But, you can try fiddling about with the display settings by - Setting > Display > Light

To Elizabeth, You cant personalise the message tone, but if you want to change the tone to one of the default ones - Settings > Sounds and alerts > Message Tones.

I connect my k300i phone with a DCU-11 data cable. It worked fine with my earlier PC(810e Motherboard, 1.1 USB). Since, I got a new PC(Intel D101GGC Mobo,2.0 USB), it has worked only once, that too after a lot tinkering around. But, it just fails to work. The yellow checkmark just goes on blinking and doesnt turn green. Can anyone say what the problem is?

Excellent phone! Been using it for over 6 months now and haven't regretted buying it so far! As far as data transfer is concerned, I had some trouble with 3rd infra-red devices but finally found a SonyEricsson USB data cable (DCU-11 or KQ-U8A) for my PC. have been transferring games, pics, vids, music etc ever since without trouble. i will admit the cable is much slower than IR or bluetooth and i will definitely recomment using IR with laptops

Ideal for students, Teachers and newer professionals who don�t want to spent large amounts on heavier mobiles with approximately same functionalities. Sony Ericsson never compromises with cheap equipments that why it has used STN screen in order to give Tri Band, Infrared, Handy cam, 12 MB memory, Video player (3gpp), MP3 , games etc. in a nutshell. Otherwise K700i is a best option for those who can spend more as its price has finally come down and it has a good amount of memory (42MB) so that you don�t have to add the amount for MS/SD/MMC card in your mobile budget.K300i looks trendy and meanwhile costly too but when people hear its price they get surprised. I bet that you can not find the same quality mobile with exact set of functions in any company and if you find then be aware as some function might be absent like the could be dual band or infrared absent or may be cant run videos etc.

Ranjan, the j210 and the k300 don't have the same screen - they are made by different suppliers to Sony Ericsson and look different inside. j210 was launched later than K300 and might therefore have an improved CSTN display. If you cannot adjust it you have to live with it.

aad, read down the pages; I have said how to change the contrast many times. Regarding freeing up memory - just go through your pictures/ringtones/games etc and press C (cancel) when you have them highlighted. Some of it is allowed to be deleted, some not.

Changing message alert cannot be done other than the pre-installed variants given with the phone. Taimur, The K300i supports AAC-mono only, not stereo. Also K300i only supports AAC-LC. Are you using AAC-LC or AAC-HE? The difference between LC (Low Complexity) and HE (High Efficiency) is as follows: These are two of the various Object Types in the MPEG4 Systems Standard. LC is the most popular Object Type with all encoders/ decoders supporting it. Currently some companies have incorporated the HE AAC standard into their encoders, which allows for higher quality sound at lower bitrates then the LC Object Type does (at the same bitrate). The HE Object Type is only used for music with a bitrate of less than ~80kbps.

Alex, First you need this: a IR-port on your PC! Then: 1) put on the IR-port on the phone; menu > connectivity > IR-port >10 minutes 2) put the phone with it's IR port against the PC's IR-port - but leave 10-20 cm gap. 3) now the PC should give a little message saying it has detected your phone. 4) right-click the mp3-song you want to send - chose send > "to another computer" 5) Now your phone will ask you for permission to receive the file. Click yes. Keep the phone in the same place, or you will lose connection. 6) Wait until the file is sent. This can take quite a while for bigger mp3 files. IR is quite slow. 7) You are ready!

Tom, 1. have you put the IR on, in the phone? DO you have it directed towards the computer IR port around 20 cm away? The computer doesn't detect anything?? 2. You have to install this first. Go to www.sonyericsson.com/support, click the K300i model, click "Picture messaging (MMS)" and follow the instructions. Don't forget to restart your phone just like you should do with a PC when installing new programs.

Rachel, you can change the length of video recording. When in video mode, press more and then "recording length". Change from "for picture message" to "unlimited". What you have now is optimized for sending MMS.

Thea, this phone has mp3 capability so that you easily can listen to your favourite song as ring tone - it is not intended as a music phone. The 12 mb are intended mainly for photos and pictures. If you want a music phone you should try out the walkman variants!

Lourenco, this isn't part of the k300's functionality. I think Sony Ericsson wants the phone calls as such to be as free as possible of disturbing elements/sounds... the primary function of the K300i is being a phone... However ... IR the sound-file to a computer, play it using the computer during the other call, holding the phone close to the computer's speakers. Perhaps not perfect, but it should do the trick.

Annum, 1) go to www.sonyericsson.com/support, 2) chose K300i, 3) click mobile internet(WAP) and 4) follow the WAP Configurator. Eventually you will get a sms that will send the correct settings to you. Accept the settings, turn of the phone, restart it (just like a PC). Now it should work! If the problem persists despite this, contact your operator's (operator = vodafone, orange, cingular, america movil etc etc) helpdesk. They are the ones who make money on you using this service, so they should help you on this matter!

Texas, This is not a firmware problem - as it says in the manual, the image editor is available for pictures in sizes 160x120 or 320x240 pixels (which means it's not available for the 2 largest picture sizes). Besides, if you want to do something really nice my best advice is to IR it to the computer, edit with a suitable PC program and IR it back again to the phone - much quicker and with better results! Why? 1) More ergonomic with a PC 2) PC has better and bigger screen which gives higher precision 3) The PC programs can do much more

Texas, according to him they did. I have not tried them myself. Nothing bad happens if you try. You can always delete them if they don't work. noop, yes, the datacable (usb) required to connect a k300 to a PC is DCU-11.

Man the speaker in this thing is loud... louder than the k700s' i'd say...if u wanna hear how loud it is pick an mp3 and set it as ringtone,then go to setup and choose the max volume level...and be amazed... :P make your hand in the shape of an upside down cone over the speaker for nice effects too

Texas, ensure that the 3GP file has the correct audio encoding. From K300's White Paper (put in white paper + k300 in search field at www.sonyericsson.com): "The Media player supports download and playback of H.263 formats for viewing video clips in the phone. Files must be of types MP4 or 3GP, having audio encoded in AAC or AMR format. The phone encodes video in H.263 Profile 0 Level 10 format."

This phone can take 1.23 MP photos,it has a 'stretch' option or whtever it's called,anyways even with the big resolution the pictures look very very good ! nearly as 1.3 mp phones,just that the memory in this thing is really low :P

There is an easy way but you have to remember it yourself. The only time to have the alternative speaker on/off is during an actual call. So, during the call: a) Press in joystick, b) press 4 Same thing to turn it off during call.

Taimur and others regarding mp4-files... MP4 is "the package" for MPEG4 video and AAC sound files. K300 only supports AAC (which is MP4-sound) and not MPEG4. The video of Taimur is coded in MPEG4 - that's why it doesn't work. However it will work if you convert the MPEG4-file to 3gp. Then it will work. A free converter can be found at Nokia (!!) at: For this you register in the Nokia forum, and request for a serial number for installation. More detailed instructions can be found at:

Hi all! I have got this phone for a week and I am pretty happy with it! It is very simple and well made. It has J2ME (java) latest technology which was very important for me. It has optional package like MMAPI, Video player, java 3D and Messaging (SMS) send/recieve API. The display is 128x128 and the battery lasts for around 4 days which is a bit small time, but it is ok! I specifically wanted the smaller display than k500 in order to gain better battery life and 4 days is fair enough. Good phone! (for the money :-))

As i told u tht i got this phone, it was working well ever since i got it.. but now a tiny problem is thr.. u said nd evrywher it is written tht it has got 12 MB memory... but when i opened file manager and clicked on memory status.. it displayed tht my sounds folder is of 9.7 MB (as some MP3 tones nd a song are thr) and my pictures folder is of 9.6 MB .. i was astonished.. as it can't hav thngs more than its memory.. i opened my pics folder.. and chcked all files tht how much their size is nd i found out tht it can't exceed than 2 MB.. so i'm worried tht how come it displays tht my pics folder contains files of 9.6 MB memory as 9.7MB is already taken by my sounds folder.. it displayed every else folder's memory rightly but not of my pics .. it said 9.6 MB memory and files number was also right but the memory..?.... plz help me... waiting.. thnx in advance..

Hi Matt, what you have is a Vodafone-branded K300. There are also Orange, TIM etc -branded phones because these operators buy very big volumes from Sony Ericsson, Nokia etc and demand that they are branded. You can see these branded phones also from NOkia, Motorola etc - the operators are very powerful... Sometimes the user interface is also changed. Vodafone's interface is much more ugly than Sony Ericsson's in my opinion, but it is there own choice to demand to have it to their customers! This is also why I say that the memory available for user is between 10-12 Mb. Sony Ericsson's K300i has 12 Mb, but sometimes the operators put is so much extra material/software/files that it steals some of this memory from the user. ALL K300 support DRM. DRM means that you cannot copy copy-protected material. However you can copy all MP3s, games etc which are not copy-protected.

I won this phone in a chocolate competiton. It came from VODAFONE !! instead of the qickshare bit down the bottom it has vodafone. there are lots of other things that vodfone have on there as well wich you CANT REMOVE !! if you want this phone dont get it on vodafone. Paco, when you install a theme it overwrites the wallpaper. However, you can always overwrite the theme by installing the wallpaper again. Chose the picture you want as wallpaper > more > use > as wallpaper.

vipin, The number of photos that can be stored in normal VGA 640x480 mode depends on the quality of the pictures (dark pictures take less space). The photos are between 25-50kB each. It also depends if you store other games/videos etc. To begin with you have between 10-12 Mb free space depending on which operator you chose. If you just keep photos you can store between 200-400 pictures in the phone.

k300 PhotoCall function actually can be set at your any contact,go to phonebook-choose any contact and press more-edit contact-at the third tab,there a picture option and you just choose any piture then finish n save.When you call the contact,the picture will come out.

The screen does not go out when talking due to that one should be able to check in phonebook etc when talking. There is one option which off course saves a lot of battery and that is to turn of the light ALL the time - main menu > settings > display (joystick right 2 times) > light > off. But then you need very good light all the time. I don't recommend it unless you are somewhere where you cannot charge and only will answer the phone or know the phone numbers you will phone without using the phonebook.

My girlfriend has this phone so i know a bit about it. It doesnt compare at all to the K300. Although the screen is TFT, the display looks more cartoony than real images. Camera is slower as well.

The mp3 player capabilities of K300 is meant mainly for playing ringtones. It can play long duration audio files in size of 10 mb but this actually requires that you do not use this memory for pictures/videos/sms etc. 10 mb of music usually means about 10 minutes of music, so again, the music capability isn't very big and it was never intended to be a music phone - Sony Ericsson has their Walkman phones for this. The sound quality is quite good for a phone of this size and if you don't press the volume to the highest level (where it will sound more distorted). I have a 5 minute song which I play for my little son when he is bad-tempered ... works every time! :o) The sound quality is much better than in Nokia 3510 which both had fewer polyphonic ring tones (3510i is the first phone from Nokia, which supported polyphony (4-tones vs K300i which has 40-tones)) and also had an average ring volume. If the ring volume is high enough is both a matter of taste and about chosing the right ring signal. Ring signals with higher frequencies will sound higher. The ring signals of K300 are higher than Nokia 3510i.

I have a DCU-15 cable of K300i and everything is working fine.I suggest that buy a infrared cable/infrared USB port are more better because DCU cable very difficult to install to your computer although you hav e all the driver and software.Finnally,this phone is very good and cheap esp the camera.

Michael, first check all files in Mediaplayer (under entertainment in main menu). Next, check under "sounds" (under file manager in main menu). As a last resort check under "other" (under file manager in main menu). If you can't find it anywhere something during the download has not worked properly. Ante, it should work without problems from cellular phone to computer - I do it daily with photos and sound files. However, don't expect to be able to send copyrighted files such as downloaded games/ring tones etc you have paid for. This is managed by the phone by DRM (Digital Rights Management.

The only tip I have regarding acheiving higher ringtone volume (other than main menu > settings > sounds and alerts (right with joystick) > Volume > 8) is to change the ringtone itself. Some ringtones are better optimized for the k300 acoustics, which mean that they sound higher. Ringtones with bass tones will always sound lower. Try changing ringtone and see if you feel it sounds higher.

Jadugar, yes it has speakerphone! While speaking, press in joystick, press alternative "turn on speaker" or shortcut - press in joystick - 5 ("turn on speaker" is alternative 5). Remember that the speakerphone uses the backside of the phone (above the camera). To acheive best acoustics, put the phone against a book (or something else so the holes are not directly against the table) so that the sound bounces of the table.

T637 does have Bluetooth and a good TFT display which K300 doesn't but the K300 is a generation newer than the T637 which one can see regarding: - MMI (Man Machine Interface) is one generation newer - memory (greater) - Java speed (much faster) - Camera (3x better resolution) - Video (doesn't exist in T637) - Media Player with mp3 possibilities - Loudspeaker phone Since you are used to the T18d I think you will find the K300 display fully sufficient - it's other capabilities outweigh this disadvantage. However, you also have to consider how important Bluetooth is for you - do you want to have BT handsfree then perhaps you should consider T637...

hi, just bought a k300i and it's not too bad but my main problem is that when i go to write a basic SMS it goes into a slideshow message of some kind. it says in the manual that when u go to write new message u should have a cursor and u can start writing but with my phone i get screen with an arrow and i have so select 'add' and then 'text' and then i can enter text. thing is it sends it as a slideshow message and it costs me more to do it this way...i just want to send a standard text message. please help me!

The possibilities of the VGA-camera are maximum for a device of this class. The only straight rival for K300 is Siemens C65 similar in characteristics. My sis has this phone (E228) so i know a bit about it. Good points - 3G, Good menu system, camera on both sides and higher memory. Bad points - phone is pretty large, has no Infr-red, Video only records for at the most 60 seconds or less. The SE looks and feels a lot better. If you arent up for Video talking and 3G then go for the K300.

Ths is n AWESOME phone!!!! and for $159!!!! We recieved a package of 5 on Sat morning and they were all gone by that afternoon!!!! They sure beat any other prepaid bundle for the moment....So if anyone wants a compact, easy to use phone witha great camera and polyphonic ringtones- u have to buy one of these!!!

U can play nokia series 40 games on K300i, i have tested and it works fine, the famous nokia game BOUNCE, it also works very fine i think its more engaging than in NOkia phones bcoz of k300i's 3d engine. here is the site u can download on ur pc & transfer it via ir or data cable, bounce & lots of other games

Hi RIYAN... i wud tell you a few names.. if u r interested in any one go and buy.. SAMSUNG X600, MOTOROLA C650, SE-K300, PHILIPS 535, SAMSUNG X620, SIEMENS CX65,C65 well these are all i know in the range of 6500.. other than that.. u can go for a good second hand in warrenty if availaible.. its upto u. but if u want to buy a new one then chck the features of all these sets and then choose the best one for urself..

hm, i would say that the k300i display isn't very good... i mean, i'm satisfied, but some people want more and you should check it out for yourself... i must admit i have never used or tryed out k508 but it looks like a fairly good handset to me, with a better display (TFT opposite to CSTN), but i repeat, you should try both handsets and choose for yourself... i must say that the joystick on k300i is great (for now) and it is perfect to work with. to cut the story short, i will say nothing but great things about k300i and reccomend it to everyone, but must admit that the display could have been better... everything depends on your priorities...

usb lens is on top of the phone, opposite the on/off button. USB on the left side, on/off on the right
