Motorola Moto G6 Play - User Reviews

  • It's good for what this phone is supposed to be, I personally love the front camera, it's very very good at night with the flash

  • Which version do you have ? The Reteu (european version) still nothing

  • how do I unlock a demo mode on Motorola Moto G6 Play

  • It shouldn't be for this price. No complains.

  • i totally agree its gone from better to best for the money its a great phone i recomend this phone its awsome

  • The battery isn't the best

  • Go to System and tap Hardware Information.

  • Well the ram is how well it can multitask and have more apps open and not slow down as much

  • To find out which ibe you have just check the settings and then storage. To swap the battery you have to pry it open check you tube videos for that to see how

  • I have a Motorola MotoG6 play. The specs GSMArena shows indicates the phone should have 16GB/32GB storage. How do I discover which of these two amounts of storage I have? What does the 3 GB RAM mean? How do I get and install a new battery when the current one craps out? Fraunt

  • Best for very light usage (2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage) The Motorola Moto G6 Play is a lower end version of the Motorola Moto G6, well it doesn't really show that except in looks. The HD+ display is nice with the 18:9 aspect ratio, paired up with the 4000mah battery can easily last for around a whole day. It recently got android 9 pie as an update that added new features to the phone that it's more powerful counterpart already had. Mostly the phone by itself is fine, camera isn't mindblowingly great, performance is mostly less that expected for a Snapdragon 427, and security with its rear fingerprint scanner is fast at times. The rear camera isn't too great, most pictures are usually brighter and have less contrast than on something like an iPhone X. Gaming on this phone (which is advertised for gaming) isn't great either, games like Minecraft or asphalt 8 tend to lag and sometimes freeze, less demanding games but with alot of animations like wordscape also suffer from the issue, most simple non-demanding 2d games work fine on here (geometry dash, neko atsume, stickman hook). Security is like most smartphones, the fingerprint reader works fast (unlike the phone) and doing your pin and pattern is usually easy... usually... Overall if you need something for very simple use then I recommend it. Now excuse me as I throw this away and get a Redmi Note 7

  • Yes, just keep installing the updates until you see a system update, which will turn your phone into an Android Pie phone. That update will take 10, 15 minutes.

  • It happened the other way around on our G6 Play. It got 2 security updates that were installed and handset rebooted twice, than downloaded the Android-9 Pie update. We have the indigo blue with a transparent, blue-ish TPU case for it. Interestingly this international model only has 16-GB of ROM and 2-GB of RAM, however for the price, it was the best bang ($100- USD). In the review they list some phones as competition, I'd love to see how many of those 2017/18 phones have Pie update running on them by OEM now.

  • Yes it does, since it supports band-4, AWS - 1700/2100

  • Does this phone work with Freedompop?

  • Pie update is followed by security updates. And what can I say, from better to best. It's nice features. Better battery life. Better UI. Cool display features. Best budget phone. Had many other phones, this one is worth the money. Go for it, you won't regret. Bye

  • extremely complicated

  • Hi guys! Bought this phone three days ago. It asked me to download security updates. After I installed one update the phone got slower. Don't know why. Should I install those updates? More updates on the way. What should I do? Thnx!

  • My guess is, it will get pie when Android Q is launched..... but this a budget phone

  • As usual Western Europe is always last to get updates

  • I disabled the Dolby app and installed bass booster from the app store. This appeared to sort my issues.

  • i did not notice any changes with sound, bt or wired headset working same good way like before pie, got pie two days ago.. dolby audio got a new interface but it have opition to turn it off.

  • how to change language

  • You can't turn off dolby and when was off in oreo it was much better quality, slower split screen, its also stupid

  • what is problem with sound on pie??

  • Don't update, i made mistake, its terrible you will hate it,i had to use PC to fix sound problems

  • No Pie in Bulgaria! Serbia have it!

  • Ok. Must in English. Pie is very good on my G6 play . But , only light on display , must be little harder . Poz..

  • lazes :) .. I must to continue in English, unlocked or you buy phone on contract??

  • From Belgrade , Serbia .

  • where are you from?

  • 20. Mar. Pie on my Moto G6 play.

  • did anybody received android pie yet??

  • R u right

  • OK, i use phone with maybe 2 hours on screen time per day, and rest of the time its standby, it can hold 2 days, in range from 25-85 % very easy, phone itself have free ram about 1.9gb but i use only 5,6 apps, works fast but, some animation do lag sometimes, not slow phone just its annoying with that , i hope 9 will fix that, camera, display, design amazing for price, finger print will get lazy after 3,4 month so i disabled that

  • Several reasons for non-removable batteries in cell phones. This saves the phone manufacturer a great deal of future headache's The main reason you cannot remove batteries From cell phones is this: When your location is off it really is still on. Just not pinpoint. But, if you take the battery out of the cell phone your location is completely zilch. It will show the last location the phone was in but if you have changed locations your current location is clueless. Now, who wants to know where you are, all the time? A clue: these people work for different agencies that generally have they're name abbrievsted

  • Er...that's because they're older models. You will always pay more for a current model than an older one whatever the product is.

  • ..for 120 Euros in my country...,i don't think so. Moto G6 Play have better screen, better sunlight ratio, better sound, better battery (included charging speed, stand and capacity) from G5s and G5s+. Their processors and cameras are better, but this ones does a great job too. I like very much G5s and G5s+ too. Better durability phones.

  • It's just that you can get much better phones with more features at the same price or lower. The G5+ and G5s+ cost only a little more than this G6 Play and are vastly superior than it.

  • Guys, you are not familiar with this phone. This is a great device with pretty cool features. Fast and reliable. Mega battery life. Because of its plastic shell it is resistant to temperature differences. I would even add, to some extent, waterproof. Pretty good camera with some professional options for better pictures. Gestures I have not met in another brand that work flawlessly. Last but not least, fingerprint sensor, which has a decent speed of 0.4 sec. Vanilla Android makes it flexible for the user with many customization options. I've seen people with five times more expensive phones, enjoy fewer features. More money - more gossip - more claims!

  • @pKV Carphone Warehouse apparently committed a criminal offence by denying you your statutory right to a repair - or failing to be able to repair (since they claimed they couldn't, right?) a refund. Since you presented them with the problem within 6 months, the item can be legally-assumed to have been like that - faulty - AT the time of purchase, so that's a FULL refund. You could also threaten them with (County Court) Small Claims Court action to recover FULL costs (100% of your time in dealing with this issue, billed at your normal salary rate) and any damages. Plus they'd have to pay the court fee, and which do you think is cheaper for them? This is simpler than general scary legal issues. You book the court, and if they don't turn-up, you win (IIRC). Then you can enforce the court's decision, etc. Better than being a victim! Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the key legislation. Use your rights or lose them - I see another person too lazy to google what their rights are, which is ridiculous! What are you using the technology in your life for, if not to liberate yourself and teach yourself useful facts? Hmmm?

  • I'm w/him re: removable batteries. I'd much rather have the option of swapping batteries should I choose to. I'm fairly certain you wouldn't buy most anything else battery operated that doesn't have an easy way to remove the battery. Would you buy a laptop, a flashlight (aka torch), flying drone, etc. if you couldn't remove/swap batteries?

  • Average phone @ high price...plz don't by this phone.

  • When i delete an image it says trash can is full, it is going to be deleted forever. Where can i empty that trash can. Do you know something about that. Tnx.

  • Which version of the G6 Play do you own? The American, European, or Indian version? There are some significant differences between the different versions of this model. The country you're in should tell you which version you own... unless you intentionally bought a version intended for a different region.

  • yes battery not stand up to the said, but charge too fast. No lag, but no Airtel volte, heating is there. In summer use cautiously.

  • Lol

  • i'm using this phone since few weeks, its good, fast and durable.

  • LOL!

  • So i got really drunk one night and when i came home i took shower with all my clothes and the phone in my pocket. When i woke up i found my pants in the bathroom soaking wet and my phone still in my pocket. And it still works perfectly so good job motorola.

  • I'm using 2 sim cards, and i have 8 core cpu version ,now i see you have problems, but only problem i had its lag when scroll but after installing 3rd party launcher nova that its gone, any other one will do trick, Phone have Geekbench score of 2350 in multi core, battery can last-for me 1day of using phone almost all the time, and maybe 2 if i start day with 85% ... note- i'm using 20-85% battery, so never full charge was tested my phone its not hot while charging and i get 20-85 in 1 hour, camera its fine, maybe bit slow in dark.. visible in the sun, and can get super dark when i need to use phone in bed. i know that 4 cores in 2018 its insane, so instead e5 i took g6 play, if own version with 4 cores, that could be problem its just not enough , phone for me, its all i need for now, next time i will probably get 6t im to lazy to use pc anymore

  • Did anyone received system update for my play?

  • When you pull up cache, swipe once to get to top of page, there is a clear all button, on the same screen. That clears all at once. Hope this helps.

  • Is there any way to resolve swipe issue in touch screen?

  • The phone is well known for having scrolling problems that seem to be with the launcher. I downloaded Nova launcher from the Play Store and it has performed faultlessly since.

  • Tnx :) Btw do you know is there just one click to clear the cache or i gotta do it separately

  • Does anyone else have any problems with the Moto 6 play as far as touch screen response, scrolling? Maybe even the calibration?

  • you need to unlock developer options in the system menu

  • Does anyone knows where can i see at moto g6 play how much Ram memory I'm using at the moment?

  • Bought my Moto G6 Play from Carphoney W***house, and loved it, as it had just came out I bought mine in June this year 2018. First month it erased all my contacts and replaced it with someone elses contacts, which did this a month into having the phone. I spend summer in France where I also have a home and it doesn't want to know about my French WIFI, it wont connect, so used all my data up. Came back to UK in September and the lead from the headphone of my G6 to aux in my car wont work. I bought new leads, the leads worked in my husbands Samsung and worked on iphone 6, but Moto G6 didnt! Charged my phone to 100%, within an hour, the phone went to 3% all apps off, even Facebook was off. Noticed my contacts missing again, but this time not replaced by someone else's thank god. I took it back to Carphoney as the phone is only 5 months old, they sent it off, a week later they contacted me to come and collect my phone hoping all is well. No it wasn't! Seems that Carphoney W**ehouse don't fix Motorola phones, I have to post off to Motorola at my own exspence! I asked Carphoney if I could trade up? Nope! As it was in their system as a faulty phone now, basically told me that I'm stuck with it, not their problem, and then totally ignored me in the shop. Contacted Motorola online, and now I've got to record delivery to their repair place in Norfolk at my exspence. Which can take upto a further 7 to 10 days. So leaving me without a phone as Carphoney took back their lone phone. Warranty means nothing, and I would have been better buying one off ebay! Never again would I use Carphoney or would I ever buy a Motorola, any of them! I had my iphone 6 for years no problems, just didn't like the newer iphones as none of them have headphone socket. Save yourself the bother, buy anyone else's, don't buy a G6 play! The photos are all dark, the flash is a laugh, and the video is a joke. The photo's take ages to be shown in your photo's. Great for gaming, but for out and about the WIFI is dodgy, it sometimes connects, ideal for that famous burger place but for use in some hotels & restaurants, it's doesnt like and wont connect! Shame really as it does look sleek, but looks ain't working for me, just wish the damm phone would work! I might have been unlucky in my purchase, but it has put me off Carphoney & Motorola forever.

  • There is no NFC on the european version (XT1922-3).

  • Corning Gorilla Glass?? maybe ordinary glass!!

  • I get 60 hours out of my G6 Play with moderate frequent use. What are you doing with yours to make it run down so quick?

  • They used to update regularly before Lenovo bought them over!

  • To add to the discussion there is no perfect phone. You get what you pay for. Even the high price phones have issues. My thing is I can hear on it, people can hear me, I can send & receive texts. I'm good. Paying a lot of money for a phone don't make it good. And if you don't like the Motorola g6 play don't use it.

  • You get NFC (SIM only version), the amazon version is the Dual Sim. you´re absolutely right Motorola should be more clear to state this point to customers.....

  • I have one of these G6 Play phones. The earpiece port failed on it and Motorolas repair people fixed this but now my fast charger has become a slow charger and neither Carphone Warehouse or Motorola want to do anything about it even though the phone was only purchased in June of this year. Avoid Motorola and Carphone Warehouse like the plague.

  • This is a worst phone I ever had even you cannot make a video of 15 mins because of heating issue in running various application. 2. It's battery life shown on box is 4000mah but i don't think that because it doesn't stand for 18 hours. 3. It has a connectivity issue most of the time there is no network of same NSP when there is no network problem. 4.Charging process is fast but because of excessive heating one should be careful while touching phone because it's like it will blow in some more time. 5. I will never suggest anyone to buy Motorola G6 play..it is totally loss of price you have much more better options in the same price.

  • moto with regular updates.. joke of the century

  • There's been a lot of bragging on the battery life of the Moto g6 play but I find it all to be lacking. I have recently purchased this phone and was told I could go 1.5 days between charges. This is a lie. My battery dies very rapidly and charges extremely slow. I'm good to get a full 30 minutes use from full charge until it starts to die on me. SO unimpressed with this phone. I do like the size of it, though...

  • I bought this phone from Amazon Italy, supposedly the Europe version, and it does not have NFC. Am extremely annoyed that Motorola continues to make multiple regional versions of their phones with no transparency of exactly which ones have which features.

  • Motorola is one of the few with regular, updates that withstand inspection. Check with snoop-snitch.

  • Don't buy motorola phone MotoG6Play not cast with any smart tv i face problem with sms sending and receiving. because of that i din't get OTP. customer care give me very fool solution first time. change SIM slot 2nd time. Keep only one SIM and check 3rd time. Take Message registration number from service provider and follow lot of step Finally i reset my phone from service center till i facing same problem now technical person told me you have to follow whatever we said to salve your issue they are not serious about salve this. they just given random answer.

  • Which one?

  • why Motorola why snapdragon 430 in 2018 that why I switch to Nokia

  • It can cast to a TV, and so could my old Moto G4.

  • Besides nice design and holds nicely in your hands even with a bigger display. No heating issue

  • Can this phone 'cast' to a smart TV? Other like the G4 couldn't unless they were 'rooted'.

  • boni

  • I like Motorola a lot , this is great can't wait to check this phone out

  • Wtf are you talking about? Smartphones stopped using removable batteries 4 years ago. I think you live in a cave

  • Oh boy after acquiring a Redmi Note 5 (AI) for USD 250 these Motorola phones just seems more and more like a TERRIBLE deal...

  • It's called a budget phone mate use your brain. Motorola know how to optimise their software and the older G5S ran smoothly on this chip

  • Your touch wasnt working and now no one should buy this phone? lol

  • Havnt owned a Motorola since the V525 (the flip phone). I'm genuinely satisfied all round with this phone. Good battery life, super fast charging, good cameras, nice big screen and very well priced. I don't understand why there are so many bad opinions on thread. If your looking for a good android phone with very little bloatware at a decent price, please consider this handset. 10/10 @Motorola/Lenovo

  • Just bought one and it's awesome. Didn't had any problems and runs smoothly, I've paid 159£ in UK unlocked, it's a bang for a buck if you're asking me, let's see how well will perform after some time....

  • Don't buy this phone.i bought it last week and the touch was not properly working.. technician repaired it still it gave same issue now I got replacement but the phone hangs

  • Not good performance

  • I face a problem in this phone that no starting tone in this phone.

  • I loved my G3 wish I'd kept it now

  • Why will someone buy this device with such low specs for such a high price and when you already know lenovo is going to destroy it with their updates.

  • OTG?

  • How it would be to exchange with moto g3.Is moto g6 play better than g3

  • This phone has 282 ppi density, so not up to the mark

  • Will the G6 work with TMobile

  • I've was sent an email on May 30th to pre-order this. I had the original Moto G and liked it. I now have G4 and have had an assortment of issues, mostly involving sound tones. When adjusting phone sound on the slide bar in set up, it barely makes a sound, so it's hard to tell what the volume is, though it does ring when I get a call, so that's more important. There is of course no notification light like the original Moto G had and this always notifies me of texts, but only sometimes notifies me of emails until I pick it up and then one or more will suddenly come through with a sound. I've missed some important messages, but maybe people should use these as phones more before we forget how to communicate verbally! Without the notification light, this has been a long ongoing problem. I want to upgrade, but a little cautious after this one and why the lower screen resolution?!

  • Whats the use of releasing such outdated phone in G series, never recommend this to anyone if these are official specs. better is to buy G3 than this ...moto gone crazy or wt??

  • MOTOROLA NEVER AGAIN. After owning Motorola's since the first Moto X (when it was Google) and recommending it to a lot of people, I'm done with them. Recently my girlfriend Moto Z Power Edition started to have several issues with the battery just 2 months after the warranty was over. I contacted some technical services specialized in replacing batteries to ask how much would cost to replace it and they DENIED doing the service because they had done this on literally hundreds of Moto Z in the past months and after 1 or 2 months the phones came again with the same problem, which indicates it's a hardware failure and not the battery itself. So I went out to research about it on specialized sites we have here in Brazil about user complain / reviews and found out a MASSIVE number of reports (literally thousands) with this same issue across our country, which indicates a batch manufacturing problem. And this appears to be not exclusive to Moto Z but also some Moto G5 / G5S and E line, so basically all lines from Motorola. I then contacted Motorola and Lenovo customer service to ask if they were aware of this and how they are handle it, and they just ignored me over and over and over, and to this day there's hundreds of complains not answered and my requests are being ignored, because here the laws do nothing to protect the customer. So, FOR ME, Motorola never again. It doesn't matter if the phones are good, a company that doesn't acknowledge a massive issue like this and doesn't reply to loyal customers doesn't deserve my money, and I'll spread this history whenever I can so people are aware of this issue and how the company handles their customers.

  • really then u have no knowledge about mobiles buy this immediately..

  • >expected release May 2018 I'm guessing it's been released because I just bought one today. Updated information when?

  • It is awesome phone ever in history

  • 1) Lower end qualcomm chipsets - Moto G series is always meant for a mid range user. The way qualcomm classifies their chipsets, motorola also classifies their handsets. It is very simple to understand the increasing order of performance - snapdragon 400 series then snapdragon 600 series then comes snapdragon 800 series. Similarly for motorola - E,G,X,Z is the series of phones that will carry chipsets according to the alphabetical ranking. Moto E being lowest in category will carry low end chipset. G is mid range, X is premium mid range and Moto Z is high end. You are looking for 800 series and motorola together you have to look for Z series. 2) You want to make sure whether or not 430 will be launched in USA or not. Perhaps 430 will not launch in USA but there is not much of a difference between 430 and 427 as both are very low end chipsets used in budget segment. I would rather ask you to wait for 600 series one which will be available in G6 (not play). See motorola was struggling to compete with new players in the segment so they further divided their G series into 3 segments - g6 play (low end, closer to moto E), g6 (normal one), G6 plus (most expensive of the lot, which will carry most competitive specs). So its not a question whether you will get 430 or 427 because both are low end. Better to wait for G6 or G6 plus which will carry slight bit bigger price tag but will be more value for money. 3) rest of your questions were related to GPU carried by same chipset so no need to answer because low end chipset carries basic GPU. 600 series will fulfill your gaming needs better with a better GPU. So only look for G6 plus. 4) Screen on this price - only IPS LCD you will get, which is not bad as such. But many people (including me) prefer AMOLED's as they have deeper blacks and more rich colors. In LCD whole of the panel lights up while in AMOLED only the colored part is lit up and black area means no live pixels in the background which makes blacks more black as compared greyish blacks on IPS LCDS. But some prefer LCDs as they look more natural. More importantly you will not get any AMOLEDs at this price. (some makes give AMOLEDs with low end processor phones like - samsung, because it is their home make but other companies use AMOLEDs usually in their high end devices only)... Hope this helps.

  • This uses a "lower version" of Snapdragon because it's a 200EUR device. You're comparing it to something using the 835 like a Galaxy S8 costing three times the price.

  • Yep.

  • It doesn't

  • Hi Yeah I have a few questions, 1. Why has motorola launched its recent versions with a LOWER VERSION OF QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON, when all the other are equipping themselves with the lates 835 or 845 snapdragon chip 2. 2 qualcomm snapdragon chips have been mention in the specification section Chipset Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 Qualcomm MSM8920 Snapdragon 427 - USA CPU Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 - USA GPU Adreno 505 Adreno 308 - USA as we can see there are two version mentioned. My question is that will there be two chipsets in the phone or will the snapdragon 427 will only be available in the USA phone sets. Does the same apply for the GPU and CPU meaning that Quadcore 1.4 Ghz be available in USA version alone or both chipsets and GPU and CPU will be made available in the phone. If the former is the case how will the new motorola run with just one 427 chipset because 427 is OBSOLETE as compared to even 630 series. I meant the speed and performance. My main question is that HOW DOES THIS WORK. Has any one tried it how is its gaming and music performance. which display is better, OLED, AMOLED, OR triluminos display. which kind of ratio would be better to get along with the display. I probably still have many questions but can't think of them now. Hope someone answers these questions Thank You Kida

  • I seriously doubt it. The "G5 Plus" has a really good camera, so did the "G4 Plus", but the "G4 Play" had a terrible camera. I'm guessing the "G5 Play" camera will not be anything great, but I hope I'm wrong, because I want one.

  • correct!

  • TFW, when USA is getting twice less potent SoC...

  • Don't compare Motorola with Xiaomi. Quality is different.

  • You think ti looks worse? Hmm. Well a lot of people (me included) think the Moto G4 has a better camera than the G5 Plus. I's be happy if the G6 Play used the old camera from the G4 series.

  • The vast majority of people in the US don't use NFC and most don't even know what it is. And of those who do use it, most use it very infrequently.

  • If the Moto G6 Play has a good camera I'm all in.

  • Bigger? Phones aren't getting bigger and bigger. There are countless phones that are MUCH bigger than these, phones that have been out for years. In realty the screens are getting smaller because of the newer 18:9 aspect ratio. If compare a 5.7" 18:9 screen is SMALLER than the older type 5.7" 16:9 screens.

  • This one should pack bit more ram but battery is good. Also it should pack 630 snapdragon. Well lets see. I miss my X5 from Motorola.

  • NFC?

  • Almost no phone offers removable batteries anymore

  • What a pity that Motorola is going backwards with their phones by not installing removable batteries. No more Motorola for me due to this stupid decision.

  • I'm going to give Moto and all phone makers some valuable advice. The sweet spot for low and mid range phones end phones is 6" screen with at least 4000 mAh battery. 200 - 325 USD depending on CPU used. Doesn't need glass on the back and doesn't need to be waterproof. Just slim bezels with big screen and big battery.

  • if moto g6 play release with SD450 with 150$ pricing i will buy it because redmi5 with sd450 has 120$ price moto g6 must release with SD630 moto g6 plus must release with SD636

  • I'm very close to running amok, why do the f**ing phones get bigger and bigger every year!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • No value for money

  • Looks like new motorola phones just go for sell only "as new" .No use improvements. No NFC.Maybe for lower cost in some market

  • What are the chances that the camera will be better than the g5 plus? The phone looks a bit worse overall

  • In latest morotola phones ,gps locks in 1-5 second .So can use nav program at once

  • This one looks better than g6 & g6plus

  • Screen's specs are weird to me

  • the 4000 battery is the draw here, not sure yet, gotta see the battery time on the G6

  • To avoid selling too many phones.

  • Why Lenovo is skipping compass?

  • 2gb ram in 2018??? wtf :-/

  • I hope that moto g6 play doesn't have a crappy Mediatek proccesor.

  • Well well well. Agood looking budget phone with great battery but i was expected USB-C type of charger in this phone. Also it should packs 32GB disk space. 16 is too small. Soon apps uopdates will take its space for self and nothing left will remain.
