Motorola QUENCH - User Reviews

  • How many of you here still use it in 2018 ?? Of course not as a daily driver ...... but just a device that still works and can serve some (if any) purpose of your daily activities ?? My palm pre can still work if you just use it to call and text also emailing and a bit of internet browsing (such as Facebook and Skyping) ......watch YouTube ......

  • Bought this phone new and used until feb. 2014 on T-Mobile in the U.S. Unlocked and used on other provider for a time. As of 2014 no update from v1.5 was ever offered, I checked monthly. Also my unit (MB-501, Cliq-XT) featured 128MB RAM. Motorola says up to 16GB uSD, unit works well with 32GB. Unit still holds ~50% charge to this day on original BP-6X battery.

  • I had this phone for at least 4 years and it works great for basics( Texting, talking, playing music, etc). However, it is outdated. If you're looking for a phone to surf the internet and download the latest games and apps this phone is simply not for you. The great thing about my phone is the screen stays in perfect condition after literally hundreds of drops. Hope this was helpful! xoxo

  • good

  • I need arabic langauge -whatsapp -skype plz

  • up date version 2.3.7

  • how to download skype and 4shared music?

  • how to download cyanogenmod 7?

  • android 2.3.7 available from cyanogenmod - however it will need a little tweaking after installation is done to work flawlessly. (overclock it a little and choose the ondemand scheduler).

  • how can i upgrade my mobile

  • Only upgradable to v 2.1 in the USA. Need a new phone then and it won't be a Motorola then.

  • shall i make an video call in this mobile with the help of Skype.

  • using custom ROM

  • how do we upgrade the OS in this phone?

  • how ypu updated it..?? i m using 1.5

  • hey now im using 2.3.7 in this phone.......... coooolllll :)))

  • In its "original" form, with 1.5, it's not a great phone. But if you root it and install a decent ROM, such as CyanogenMod 7, which is currently at 2.3.7, you'll be able to do a lot more with it. I know you shouldn't have to resort to that, and it voids your warranty, but it makes a huge difference. I installed CM7 a week after I got mine 10 months ago, and haven't looked back.

  • I have a quention regards to the software because mine only have 1.0gb but I trying upgrade it but isno t working cann some one let me know how can I do it please Iam located in Panama I thanks in andvances

  • i can't not do the long txt because went i do it bounce back so i can not send long txt i dont how to use or to change tne txting methods and how to copy my contacts from my simcard to phone contacts?..anyone knows how?

  • some videos are unavailable to mobile. this will happen on all mobile devices regardless of the phone. :)

  • I received the phone because I had my Sony Ericsson stolen and I absolutely dislike almost everything. I can not send long text messages, otherwise it bounces back. I can't send multiple text messages, otherwise it bounces back. None of the apps that I want to use will work because the software is too old, and most of the apps doesn't support the 1.5 OS. Motoblur continuously slows down the entire phone. The phone just isn't smooth! Auto-correct's words that I ACTUALLY use often to words that I don't and most people don't either. My Rogers Account app doesn't even work properly! And I know it's not because of the app itself. The list can go on... I'm fed up with this phone. I'm currently paying for a 6gb data plan... and I'm starting to feel as if I'm giving my money away to Rogers because of this phone. I understand all I could have said, didn't like the phone and wouldn't recommend others to use it. But I just HAD to get this out there.

  • because the Motorola Quench can only support android software up to 1.5. because of this, the website doesnt recognize that you have a phone. -.-

  • Why is my phone not able to connect to Wi Fi? Initially it connected and downloaded from the Youtube but got stuck half way and not working properly ever since. I can only make calls. GPS is not working. Whom should I contact regarding this? Is there an agent in Sri Lanka for Motorla?

  • Why Is it that any video files from YouTube ( free installed)in my Motorola Quench are not opening. A message that says "Sorry this video cannot be played" how come? why put it there when you cannot watch it?

  • The one I bought freezes, it takes up to 25 minutes to open one text message sometimes. It froze one day when someone was trying to call and I couldn't pick it up because it couldn't load the answering page. . It's very slow to flip the screen sideways and freezes half way a lot. I would not recommend this phone.

  • Why I cant install the themes i just downloaded? It said that "could not install to this phone" Can someone tell me why? Does it need an internet connection to install themes?

  • Its because your internet applications keeps running in the background so go into background applications and remove the tick form there

  • plz can someone tel me why my credit is deduct automatically even when i am not using internet??

  • Cannot connect to 3G network. When i select default mode or 2G, it catches the network fine. Also, unable to detect wifi networks. Please, if there is someone who can come up with a suggestion to fix this issue!

  • You should go to here and get the latest CM7 rom. And try the lowest possible government setting. That will help lengthen the battery's life. About the latter, well you should check your apps, some of them might be stealing your money. Use logs to track what has been doing that... Hope this helps :)

  • pls can some one help me ,this phone battery don,t last for up to 24hours and automatically deduct my credit even when am not using internet

  • performance is ok. How to upgrade it to 2.1 can anyone help.

  • not bad but battery packup is low.....

  • ...this cellphone not support 500 hours of standby mode. My Quench during about 24 hours umpluged. Test by BatteryMinder Pro application.

  • Does anyone know how to download photos from the phone to your computer.

  • Interested in getting this phone. Please reply with any problems with this phone in the US. I'm interested in switching to android. Thanks c:

  • I bought this phone and had it 6 months before I got rid of it. Motorola won't make an Android update for this particular model. Dont waste your money, I bought an HTC hd7 and its much better!

  • How do I get Live Aquqrium's to run on my Motorola Cliq XT. Also why doesn't Android Market associate this phone on their website?

  • Is there any skype software for this phone? It doesnt even have android market icon. Please to anyone concern may I ask your suggestions. Ive visited many sites to look for any version of skype applicable for this mobile but I just cant find any. Thank you guys!!

  • it is very slow, sometimes unusable for up to a minute or so while checking messages etc. Dont waste your money

  • i use to use sony erricsons and have been happy doing so but optus offered me this motorola quench and to be honest it is the worst phone ive ever used its really slow at loading things and i wouldnt recommend to anyone

  • Can any one help me I need the lettering to be bigger Email me [email protected]

  • try to install the apps installer and click back up then it will solve your memory low problem as this will ask you to save some applications in your SD card. That is what I m doing now to keep more memory space. Guess the memory low prob is pretty common with most android phones not just for quench.

  • hey guys, does any1 knw how 2 upgrade the phn to 2.1? i wna upgrade it cz i want skype in my phn, if any1 cn help thx ;)

  • could be nice if motorola will soon update its android Os to a higher version. :)

  • i have this phone for 2 weeks now and the only downside that i am seeing is that it shows a memory low after installing lots of apps from android market..not sure if this is because android phones only allowed apps to saved in the phone memory that's why i now got this message notification. So far I am liking this phone..it is really nice for a first time android user..love its motoblur...

  • its not a big problrm only temporary try to change flash light options on auto off u mean ur pic looks like green and blue red strings?

  • first of all you connect your phone with wifi and open the mobile market and create your new gmail account and download blutooth file transfer. This phone is tottaly work like iphone.

  • i know. same thing with mine. Also, when i take a picture and later when i scroll to see them, they show smeared...

  • my bluetooyh does not work. can any1 assist. it paired and everything but not connecting

  • Well if the wifi signal is a WEP or WPA signal it will be detected by the phone. The phone doesnot detect WPA-Enterprise signals. Its an android flaw. Rooting the phone would solve the problem.

  • Some things to note: 256 MB may be the listed memory, but it's actually lower than that. In fact even with the RAM cleared of your largest programs, you'll be lucky to have 90MB floating memory for an app. while the max official Android version is 2.1 (US only), stable custom ROMs have come out that go up to 2.3.3.

  • my WiFi dosent see any available network to connect so officially my Moto has no WiFi option!!! any one knows the solution? is it hard wear or soft wear? it just cant find the router signals!

  • i had downloaded arabic for my mobile but the letters ( mkat3en mo mawslen ) are apart not connected.

  • i am having serious difficulty to use the camera from the time i bought it. any time i try using the camera, a meesage pops up telling me of a camera initialization failure and that i should restart the phone. i always do it but appears the problem still persist. any help please

  • batery life is too short in use

  • sent it in 3 times for repair for battery problems and touch screen issues

  • There is an Unofficial update for Android 2.3 Please Google Search. Quench 2.3 update. Minor problems like Motoblur removed after update.

  • This phone is ABLE to be upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.3/4 it can be found here:

  • The upgrade to Eclair 2.1 in the US has fallen through. It was officially cancelled and announced by Motorola a staggering 10 months later; February 3, 2011.

  • Camera Question for owners: Does this have an macro option? While in camera mode can you click the mouse button to take the pic?

  • Can any one advise if this bloody mobile support Arabic Langauge or not. can i handle this during software update?

  • can any body advise if this bloody device support Arabic Lang. if yes please tell me how?!

  • I have had this phone for almost a year now and i am no longer with my carrier, i only use wifi and it is a great phone, for those of you saying its crappy ect... go to modmymobile.com or just simple google rooting the moto cliq xt and flashing custom roms i have mine updated to the andro 2.1v1 without moto blurr and it is great i can run almost any app no problem and i can even play angry birds!!!

  • Decent phone, except Motorola doesn't let you upgrade the OS, so mine was obsolete as soon as I got it. It's still stuck on Android 1.5. Never buying Motorola again, they lock your phone so you can't upgrade the OS, and then backtrack on their promise to release Android 2.1.

  • does it support proxy and port number setting in locked wifi?

  • Install "Advance Task Killer" - run it - and your battery will thanks.

  • I have EXACTLY the same problem, don't be so condescending.

  • DO NOT GET IT WHATEVER YOU DO! Mine ive only had it since July and it messes up and it shuts off freezes drops calls the texting is slow it basically SUCKS dont get it and if you do youll regret it!!!

  • 1st phone died after 3 days (ELF) Early Life Failure according to Motorola. In the 1st 3 days I downlaoded a compass app from Android Market. The Alarm Clock no longer worked. I did a factory reset at request of motorola tech support. Alarm worked but would not play .mp3 as the alarm sound. Again I downloaded the compass app the alarm no longer worked. I removed teh app the alarm stil did not work. I did another factory reset. This time I calibrated the internal compass without downloading any apps. When I turned the phone off it would not turn on again. Motorola said ELF. It was replaced 6 days later by my service provider (OPTUS). New phone exhibited same problem as original one. Alarm clock worked until I downloaded a compass app and calibrated the internal comapss. A factory reset on the new phone and the Alarm misbehaves. When selecting an existing alarm to edit the screen goes blank for 15-50 seconds and no menu appears to allow the editing. When adding a new alarm the default 8am time is set and no way of editing. A factory reset on the new phone and the alarm is working. Should I calibrate the internal compass???

  • good phone for just 19 per month

  • maybe you judt dont know how to use the fone or i'm wondering if you really know how to use a mobilephone. . .

  • This is one of worst phones ever. i dont even know if i can class it as a phone or an "annoy machine". I am trying to make a simple phone call and i have to setup an account first and without the account there's NOTHING else you can do. I feel like throwing it into the wall

  • consultation, anyone know if you can update the version 1.5 that brings the android phone? and as I do, thank you very much from Argentina

  • I bought the Quench around Aug last year, then sold to my colleague around Oct last year. So far he doesn't have any of the problem you mentioned, except... The part regarding the lack of a manual. I do agree when I got my first Android phone...the Milestone, last Feb. Though isn't such being the "industry standard" nowadays? If you get an iphone, there is practically no manual at all either...not even one regarding how to use itunes and NOT to sync over to the computer...

  • I bought this phone in Aug/2010 I have regretted it ever since, it is not user friendly, most of the things you need to know are not in the manual or on the phone menu, after a few months of use the microphone will only work when it is on speaker - cant make private calls. My emails sometimes come to my phone sometimes to my computer. there isnt a way to copy the messages from the phone to the computer. Crappy service at motorola since the tech help doesnt even know how to use the phone either. As for my provider rogers, they are equally usless - I use this for business purposes - it was sold to me as equal to the Iphone. I have been so busy not able to return this hunk of Junk - and just today my screen went on the phone. I will be returning this phone still under warranty and going to a black berry - I highly recommend you DO NOT EVER BUY THIS PHONE

  • I was sent a new Motorola handphone MB501. Is this phone using Android system? What are differences between non-android system, please? In terms of cost, will Android system absorb more cost on my payment, please? Your immediate answer appreciated. Thanks

  • can some body tell me how to use zoom while video recording in this phone....

  • To ensure no data charges, you probably can ask tmobile to totally disconnect all data services. Then just use wifi wherever you can find one.

  • I have Tmobile and am interested is getting this phone. But I only have a basic data plan. Can I still use this phone without getting a more expensive plan? (No Android plan for now - too expensive for me.) Thanks

  • motorola batter life sucks !!!!!! whats nu ?

  • The mp3 player is shit. the battery lasts about a day if u don't touch it and u turn off all the apps. Camera is not great and the video recorder is absolutely terrible no zoom available. Internet browsing is pretty good for the processor. The screen is a good size but the touch response is really quite sad. trying to scroll down a page is a near impossible task. It gets super hot after over 10mins straight use on games and just browsing and after about 5mins on a call. Overall I got an alright phone free with a $19cap but I wouldn't go buy it if I had the choice

  • does anybody know how to load mp3 music to motorola quench from my itunes collection on my computer please help or send directions to email address [email protected] thank you cheers.

  • my batteries do not last even aday

  • I have the same problem with batterie for a few days, them it was ok again. I thought some aplication uses gps or something because I felt hot on the back.

  • I have this problem to!!!!

  • Hi i have this problem to. plz help?

  • The battery is crap i charge it after every 4 hrs and i dont use it i like the features but it aint serving me according to the original speks

  • Phone has good functionality and features but the comments previously posted on here are true, the battery is complete crap. I replaced my original new handset after one day with a second handset from Optus and the next phone was equally as bad. Maximum life of the battery is 12 hours with limited calls and use...stay clear if you want a phone with longer life battery!

  • According to the spec , the battery can run upto 400 hours in standby mode. Is that possible ? My can only run for about 10 hours, altough I had a few phone call .

  • Sean, you need english lessons.

  • Hi, Is uesr's manual included in the original handset packaging? Thanks

  • Are you sure that the Quench does not have Android 2.1? Cuz I just checked out the phone in an electronics megastore (Croma, Bangalore, India) it showed the Android version as 2.1. I did check the box, but it just said Andriod OS or something like that, did not specify a version. I am confused. The store did not have another piece, the only one available was on the display and I am pretty sure that they dont play around / upgrade these things. So it ought to be shipped with 2.1

  • So exactly what happened to the phone that made you kept saying it's trash? If you paid for handset price only why didn't you sell it as 2nd hand and get some $ back?

  • OMG this phone is crack that u can't even imagine. I had this phone for like 2 days and I did not brought with any contract, I had to throw it out in the trash cause there is no point of getting this phone and I have used almost all the android phones and it all sucks cause after sometimes the phone gets so hot idk why so please guys don't get this pics of trash cause I am just wanting u guys not to waste money on this trash

  • Depends on how much one pays for a copy. A chain store where I live is having a sale...for US$231 per copy, unlock and NO CONTRACT. A colleague of mine is actually looking for a "phone" with good voice quality, and I recommend this. She knows nothing about Android but wanted a dictinary, so the Quench can serve the purpose of a feature phone "plus" the extras from Android market.

  • You cannot password protect apps by default, but you can download a third party app (App Lock) which does just that. Without any hacking, rooting... + its free.

  • Do not bother with this phone. I bought this phone, and a month later, Motorola say they will not upgrade from Android 1.5. Save your money and get a phone from a company that has long term plans... and who actually care about their existing customers.

  • Where can get this patch from??????

  • yesterday I just paid US$358 (with 6 months extension of my current contract) for an XT701 in order to store all these wonderful apps! Too bad I won't get 2.1 on Quench where I live, otherwise I would of keep this phone. I sold my Quench to my colleague to "lure" him into Android, and he shall be getting Milestone soon. XT701 is my 7th Moto Android phone this year!

  • correct!!!!

  • motorola, we are waiting for an update!!! we want android 2.1 Just Tell us what is the status!!!!!

  • @100Moto: there is a patch for 2.1 that allows the user To install apps on the SD card, but the phone must be rooted.

  • Fast, good camera. I can make SKYPE calls via nimbuzz. GPS very good.

  • Thanks

  • Not possible on this handset, as it runs on Android 1.5. Only Android 2.2 supports App to SD.

  • Guys, I've downloaded applications on the handset, is there any option to move it to the memory card coz handset space is getting eaten-up. I am a new user to android and Motorola. Please help and reply. AD

  • Fail...if want an update to new versions of Android. Getting problems here in Brazil with my "firmware", its locking my gsm chip every call i make. Got 1 dead pixel with 3 months of use, never falled in to the ground... Dropping it to the factory soon. Thank you Motorola!

  • can i update it to android 2.1 ????

  • which one is beter ?

  • good phone on a 19 cap with optus

  • this phone is great and dont need to review

  • I love this phone! I had originally been looking at the iPhone 4 but am so glad I got this instead. It may not have as much of the hype as the iPhone and HTC phones but it has exceeded all of my expectations so far. I also love the Android system. I would definitely recommend this phone to those looking for an affordable smartphone!

  • This phone is great! It has tons of apps, works great .. is faster than my old phone for data use and is very clear to see on the screen. Very easy to use and fun to play with. I give it 5 stars and recommend that everyone get one. Forget Iphone! Go for the Quench!

  • Hi, I am in Canada and want to find an Android phone to use on the Wind Mobile network, which is AWS 1700/2100. This phone appears to have this connectivity however, I checked an alternate network, Rogers, who has this phone (http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wirelessBuyFlow?forwardTo=PhoneThenPlan&productType=normal&amp;productId_Detailed=QUENCHBLKR&N=52+11+4294948709). In the specs of this phone it does not list the 1700 range in their specifications. Is it possible that the Canadian version does not have this frequency available on it. Would I need to buy this phone in the US then and unlock it to have the best experience here in Canada? Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Typical of Android OS you can not password protect phone book, SMS, video, etc. I see this as a major drawback. Security lock feature is what you normally find as a standard in traditional Motorola mobile phones. I won't buy this phone or any other Android OS based phones

  • Why there is no reviw for this model? Please do a review

  • You meant package.... Pocket is the thing is you paint to put keys, cell phone, etc...

  • The Quench's front camera is hold. You only can see it, looking against the light.

  • here in Brazil all Milestone make videocalls. I bought a pocket with 50 minutes of videocall. I make videocalls with my Milestone made in Brazil.

  • why the motorola is not making the glossy finish mobile, it should be attractive.

  • So sorry, I look at both my Quench and Milestone and I simply don't see the cam you mentioned. The cam should be part of the hardware so it should have nothing to do with 2.1 or not. Plus my Milestone is running on 2.1 and I don't see any video call feature at all. Can you elaborate the steps how you can use the front cam on a 2.1 Milestone?

  • the front Camera, is not avaliable for Android 1.6. So everyting that you do, you will not find these front camera, not for photos, not even for videocalls, because it's just avaliable for from 2.1 ahead, as Milestone has. This front camera is visible in blue, top right a little point in blue, right side to the notification LED, and the luminance sensor.

  • I'm holding the phone on my hand and I simply CANNOT find any front cam. (I sure would like one) Can you elaborate exactly where did in your Quench / Cliq XT has the front cam? Top left? Top Right? Did you try to take a photo with the front cam or conduct video call?

  • I just bought the phone and I love it but im having a hard time With my contacts I don't want all my facebook and myspace Friends on my contact list is really hard to look upa number.one more thing how can i fwd text messages? Please help

  • Lucas, I opened this phone and I saw these front camera. There's a sensor, there's a notification LED and also there's that camera. I knew that here for Brazil the updating for Android 2.2 wont be able for Quench. Can I make these update like an other country?

  • Too bad it won't be updated anymore (for Latin America and Europe), so bye moto. #motofail

  • review pleeease...., need the review for my work... pleaase... thank u

  • Its not a camera, its just a proximity sensor to turn the screen off when you put the phone near your face.

  • May I have your experience with: 1) Quench synchronizing with MS Outlook 2) Configuring it for POP3 emails 4) Can it view MS Office programs?

  • It should be the same as the Galaxy

  • mine does the same thing and gets kinda hot

  • does anyone elses start to get really hot if there on the internet or anything?

  • All depends on your usage, mine gets me through about 1-1/2 to 2 days. Though usually I charge it once a day anyway.

  • I would like to ask the Quench owners out there, what is your experiences with the phone battery. How long does it last between recharge ? Thanks in advance.

  • It don´t has HSUPA. This phone, only use HSDPA for downlink data stream. There are mistakes in the specifications.

  • Not that I would mind, though I don't see any front cam on my Quench. Can you find one on yours?

  • Have you realized a front camera on Moto Quench? I'd like to know, with update for 2.2 of android, these second camera will can make videocalls.

  • Have you realized a front camera on Moto Quench? I'd like to know, with update for 2.2 of android, these second camera will can make videocalls.

  • Thanxs a lot

  • yes thx

  • i think it's for reducing red eye effect

  • I live in the Caribbean, if I buy a quench from the USA, will I get the 2.1 update when it is ready write away?

  • I have really enjoyed my quench! generally very fast. alittle confusing at first, but then its fantastic.

  • this phone is $350-400 (aus) and is $0 on a 19 cap with optus (aus citizens only) Great phone! nuf said!

  • does anybody know the SAR value for this phone? I want to grab one...

  • fantastic

  • how is phone speed and display res ? sound loud and camera ?

  • When taking a picture, the camera flashes first then after the flash the phone takes a pic. Why is that?

  • Great phone, only problem is my battery seems to only last one day, must be faulty battery surely.

  • Go into Settings. Locale & text selection. Under Text settings change it from Android keyboard to the Swype keyboard setting.

  • Can anyone tell me how do i activate the sweept keyboard

  • Go to the camera, then push the 4 square button. Next it will pop up the camera settings. The first one should be picture resolution.

  • I'd like to know if I can film with the help of flash light in this mobile. Thanks!

  • In general I am very happy with the phone, but for the life of me I can't work out how to change the resolution on the camera. Can anyone help please?

  • Again, the Android 1.5 OS which the Quench / ME501 / Cliq XT using does NOT support Bluetooth file transfer. Rumor is Motorola will offer official upgrade to Android 2.1 around August. Meanwhile, for those who urgently needs such function, plenty of applications are available in the "market", which you can click thru the icon in your phone. Search for "Bluetooth" and look for the application which supports file transfer, then click "install" and it would be right into your phone. Android is that easy.

  • hi can u be bit more specific? wht kinda software we need to dwnlad? from where?

  • hi could u plx help tell me hw to get the bluetooth get working? its not accepting any data instead its asking to pair the devices?? why? plz help..

  • The phone should be capable of more / better color, only the Android 1.5 OS limits the color of the phone. You need to wait for Android 2.1 upgrade..

  • not bad for $19/mo.good deal from optus huh

  • Great Hardware. But the screen is poor. Tiny, low resolution and only 65k colours :S

  • motorola, we are waiting for a update!!! we want android 2.1 or 2.2...

  • any good for this phone?

  • a very nice phone and i just got it also for $19 a month on OPTUS

  • You need to download a software on market

  • hello, I have recently bought a MOtorola MB501 and I have problem with the bluetooth. I can send files but files can not be sent to my phone. does anybody knows if I need to download a software or sth? or how can I receive files. thank u.

  • Okay, so after much rifling through the cheaper smart phones out there, I went with this one. And I must say, I'm in love with this phone. I can't really compare it to any other android device or smart phone in general, as it's my first, but it does everything I need it to and much more. Pro's: - Beautiful, easy to use operating system. Motoblur works really nicely with android. - Not too bulky, slides into pocket easily - gorgeous display - pretty decent camera - nice music player (it's replaced my ipod I like it so much) - Fast - easy to switch between applications. The notification bar up the top is a real winner. - Swype! I'm in love with this thing. It makes texting, emailing, whatever - so much faster! I was extremely skeptical at first, and I almost didn't get the phone because there was no physical keyboard, but honestly, swype is amazingly accurate and I was pleasantly surprised. Con's: - Battery life is not amazing, but it is sufficient. I wouldn't expect it to have a much higher battery life with everything that it does, anyway. My phone will last two days with light - moderate use, and one day with moderate - heavy use. Light use: - Using it for music for around 4 hours - Sending 1 - 3 text messages - Checking email once or twice - One phone call - about 15 - 20 minutes of facebook browsing. - about 20 minutes of IM chat on wifi. After that day (8AM - 9PM), I had half battery life. But I use all means to save it: 7% screen brightness, no background data, no leaving blutooth, wifi, etc on. But after that day, I was pretty impressed, seeings I used it for music for such a long time. - Lock button and connection/switch off button options on the same button. This was really annoying at first, and a pretty stupid way to design it. But i figured out how it works: tap for lock, hold down for menu. - Feels pretty plastic - Some of the buttons are quite wobbly. - Swype does not always get the words right, can be pretty annoying if you have a potty mouth like me. - It's a bit on the heavy side, but seeings it's practically a miniature computer, I'm not complaining. - Hard to keep track of data usage - motoblur is really innovative and awesome...but it's hard to keep track of your data if you've got limits. I'm still waiting for my first bill (in fear) but hopefully it hasn't been secretly using too much. - Doesn't actually handle flash stuff in the browser. - No skype app for android yet! - Orientation switching freezes - sometimes it will get stuck in landscape mode or stuck in portrait. This has been by far the most annoying thing, but after restarting it's fine. This has only happened once or twice. - Takes quite a long time to start up. Overall, I am head over heals in love with this thing. I mean it is my first smart phone, but as far as I'm concerned it's a pretty damn good one. I have mine for $19 a month on the Optus social cap, and for that price, I couldn't ask for anything better.

  • I find the user interface for the new motorola's very easy to use, much more easy then most of the newer smartphones that have been released. Sure it's a adjustment but it's the same with any form of new technology. Quench is one of the best handsets out at the moment (for it's price) so I think it's great for people looking into experiencing all the things they can do with their new handset.

  • excellent compact phone with all the features for business and multimedia. very good looks too , classy style. the screen is very nice and sharp with good details. it will get android 2.2 soon i'm sure motorola has good support. 9 out of 10

  • is the internet required for this Phone ?

  • can you get "easy reminder" in the android market

  • does this phone have the message alert which repeats till the message is viewed??

  • i get this phone for 2days its realy very nice phone im so happy

  • Yeah, did someone know if an upgrade to 2.1 is comming ?

  • you should get your dad a simple phone like samsung j706 kind. Seems like this phone is not your type or your dads. Dont blame the phone its all YOU!! Dont buy your dad a Ferari if hes use to open his car door by inserting the Key.

  • But light for the camcorder does not turn. The icon does not turn the light on my Quench. The Motorola Brazil said it will not turn the light on the camcorder. Thanks.

  • Someone knows about the Android atualization? Thanx

  • Sorry, I don't have this phone yet, but I do have the Milestone right next to me as I type. To make a phone call, press the PHONE icon, there goes a big phone dialer in large fonts, and one can simply dial any number. Then there is the CONTACT icon on the top, click there and I've all the contacts I want. What's wrong with your (dad's) phone? Don't you get the same menu?

  • Please!!! make a review!!!

  • Bought one of these phones for my father. It was supposed to be simple. ie: Make telephone calls! ! ! The operating system is so complicated and difficult to use unless you are a mobile junkie, sitting at a desk. Try using this phone to call someone up if you've got big hands (and fingers) whilst working! Anyone know of a simple "overlay" to get rid of the mostly useless functions. My father would like to make phone calls, answer phone calls, look up contact (simply) etc. I have a Nokia E71 and use many of the functions, but I even have trouble navigating around to do fundamental things on this operating software! Any tips to simplify this thing?

  • this ph be killer

  • nice must buy it please review

  • Review pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease *-*

  • Review please

  • Got this phone yesterday, was fine until I tried to use the camera, the handset froze up and I had to remove the battery, also stalls when I try to swipe between pages, the phone is 10 minutes old for gods sake!!

  • when you on the camcoder, take options, and then you see a bulb icon you can turn on the light for the camcoder. thank you.

  • First fully plastic, My gosh, one pay more than 400 usd for this cheap made plastic, i have never seen a smart with so cheapest plastic build, horrible buy. and the things start getting worst when the softwares you download require android 2.1 and its currently running android 1.5. oh please motorola... phone a little slow, when you type and compose text messages. and the china version is even horrible, where you dont have access to android market, only moto market is available, with less then 100 softwares in totall, plus you can download google maps, and many other softwares restriction. Be careful when you go out to buy this one, you should know what you are going to buy.

  • Will be available the Android 2.2 upgrade to this smartphone? To work with 1.5 version seems to be a bad idea when we have the 2.2 version released! sorry about my english if I wrote something wrong. thx!!

  • Review!!!!

  • hmmmm all this time put into this phone for what.?

  • sweet!

  • Review please

  • Well the best phone i ever had in my life, feels great, nice features, nice photos, excellent sound, nice price, etc..., in scale from 1 to 10 best overall i give him 10 best its an awsome phone better than iphone

  • yeah, its's also lighter, and has multitouch, radio, adobe flashlite, LED flash, swype, and a brighter screen. I would much rather have those things then a keyboard! (A happy Cliq XT owner) =)

  • Dear Motorola, What a pathetic phone, u can see by the daily interest rate of people in this phone on gsm arena, well i know this is not the only way. small screen, motorola charge you for its phone tools mobile to pc software. moto has poor customer support. you have to buy the softwares from the phone. there is no pc help.. users beware. you must know well, if you are going to buy this phone.

  • Don't have LED light on the camcorder??? In my Quench has no. Only LED flash on camera.

  • The only thing this seems to have over the original Cliq is a flash on camera. But no physical keyboard! I would much rather have the keyboard! (A happy Cliq owner) =)

  • I just got this phone for my brother and its screen IS smaller (at least compared to my Nexus One) but its Hi resolution and crisp and also includes SWIPE swiping keyboard preinstalled (Tmobile USA)

  • If larger screen is your priority, suggest you look into Milestone or XT701.

  • yes, the screen is not big, you know... but the device has a really nice resolution, such as a nice in sreen keyboard, i didnt had problems with it, but i think you should go to a store and see the phone by yourself...its better then buying online and having a surprise.

  • I seriously like this fone. I'm a bit worried about that screen size, i'm already stugling with portrait typing on my 3.2 inch Samsung Galaxy Spica, and then they make this 3.1 inch? If they have a good half qwerty keyboard i guess it will be okay. But i love the design and the rugged back. Motorola can make some fones with great build when they are on their "A" game. I had a ZN5 Before, GORGEOUS build quality.

  • review this phone please...

  • yes, i heard the noise. its like a static noise.

  • when this model will come to India?? What is the price in INR??

  • Review it! Please.

  • no videocall?

  • i thinck yes or maybe has Noise cancellation with dedicated microphone

  • This phone has to be T-Mobiles best android device as of April. The touch screen is phenomenal. Camera has numerous features. The only thing I wish for is the 2.1 update. Will this phone support that update?

  • Does Motorola QUENCH have a Crystal Talk system?

  • gsmarena please currect your info this phone is available in usa

  • sure 100%

  • Is it upgradeable to Android 2.1? Thanks!

  • Pros Superior messaging experience Great photo quality -Good calling quality- Flash Lite 3.0 Support Cons Poor battery life Sometimes slows down PA rating Design 6 Display 9.75 Camera 8 Sound Quality 6.5 Battery 5.5 Connectivity 9 Multimedia 8.25 Organizer 9

  • We have to admit that the CLIQ XT eclipses most of its higher-end Android counterparts in the messaging department even those that offer a physical keyboard. Choosing between the Swype and Android keyboard, the latter proved to be hands down our most favorite thanks to the combination of its quick response and automatic text prediction. We found speed typing to be quite accurate and responsive on the CLIQ XT as it easily puts it ahead of the Android pack and plays close to the level of performance that the iPhone exudes. Not ending at its superior usability, it takes some cues to what we've seen previously on the iPhone the ability to place the cursor to a specific location by holding down the cursor and dragging it to the desired area. All in all, the Motorola CLIQ XT easily takes the gold in the messaging aspect of Android. While web browsing on an Android powered device continues to slowly evolve, the Motorola CLIQ XT does offer up some surprises that make it stand out. First and foremost, it supports multi-touch so you can zoom in or out by using the pinching gestures although we did find that pages weren't optimized for mobile use, meaning that there is some heavy scrolling and panning required to read text on the phone as it does not rearrange it to fit the width of the page. Sweetening the experience for the CLIQ XT, it surprisingly offers support for Flash Lite so that YouTube videos will automatically play within the browser. Despite its literal desktop like performance, the lack of automatically rearranging text so there's less scrolling makes it stick out like a sore thumb still, it's a decent experience. The camera interface is pretty simple, but one nice feature is that when you take a picture it displays your location information and integrates that into the filename. Settings are fairly sparse; the user can adjust resolution, geotagging preferences, color effect, toggle auto focus and choose from automatic or preset white balances. Performance wise, we were thoroughly impressed with the amount of detail and color saturation found in our shots thanks to the 5-megapixel auto-focusing camera. Although it performed well in areas with good lighting, the CLIQ XT's LED flash produced some average looking shots that look a bit overexposed when taking a photo at a distance of 4 feet or closer We tested the playback of several videos on the CLIQ XT, as it supports MP4 files encoded with H.263 and H.264. Even though the display is physically limited to 480x320 pixels resolution, the device could play videos of up to 640x272 resolution with 1080Kbps bit rate. Videos played smoothly on the CLIQ XT without any noticeable hints of slowdown or lag to ruin the experience. Just like the other MOTOBLUR devices we've seen already, the CLIQ XT follows in the same footsteps by offering a good video playback experience

  • gsmarena team please review this phone

  • The question should be which Moto phones "do not" offer Crystal Talk? My limited knowledge is, except OEM phones (mostly low-end, and the A3100), most Moto phones have Crystal Talk as "standard". Did you check the Moto website for the specs?

  • Is Motorola QUENCH made in China? Does it have a Crytal Talk system? Recently, Motorola has not been mentioned too much about Crystal Talk. Is it still a funtion in Motorola phone and a touch phone version?

  • Phones nowadays are not too picky when it comes to brands of flash memory. You could go with kingston because that is probably the most available. But transcend and others should work fine.

  • I am getting this phone in a few hours!!! I've had a Razr V3 since it came out because my dad used to work for Motorola and until years of begging he's finally letting me out of the family plan so I can get the phone I want. T-mobile let me test the XT when it came out yesterday and I like what I see very much. My friend has the original Cliq and I hated typing on her phone because though I have little fingers the keys suck.. Anyways, I tried the touchscreen keyboard on the XT and it reminds me of the keyboard on the I-Phone because the way they're spaced and I like it. It was funny though... I asked the guy at the T-mobile store about the phone and he says it's a great phone.. that they're almost sold out but he said the HTC HD2 or whatever is better because of the larger screen and I was like okay...when is that out? He said he didn't know so he asked his boss and the boss was like.. WHY are you telling her to wait and buy a phone that isn't even out yet is better.. Motorola wouldn't release it if it wasn't wanted because the regular Cliq did so well.. LOL Either way I'm getting my XT in a few hours and can't wait... I've had many different phone brands over the years and Motorola is the only one that didn't crap out on me!!! THEY'RE coming alive again!! But question.. I know it supports up to 32 sdhc memory... but what brands does it support??

  • this phone looks like htc

  • The Java support (via 3rd party app) seems weird ._.

  • Is Motorola QUENCH made in China? Does it have a Crytal Talk system? Recently, Motorola has not been mentioned too much about Crystal Talk. Is it still a funtion in Motorola phone and a touch phone version?

  • It looks like motorola have come back ALIVE!

  • Moto Cliq XT pricing revealed in T-Mobile database? $129 on Contract $329 of Contract very good price im waiting for this phone after milestone is my next phone

  • Motorola Cliq XT (aka the Zeppelin) spotted with T-Mobile branding new picture

  • Nice phone and features are so good i like & want to buy this phone when launch in india .

  • Correct about Android 1.5 does not support Bluetooth transfer, which is possible on Android 2.0 or above (like Milestone) The reason why Moto is still releasing Android 1.5 is due to the fact the Moto Blur only works on Android 1.5 so far, and Moto is working on to get Moto Blur to work on Android 2.0/2.1...

  • nice phone good features

  • the phone is out of this world i cry everytime i look at it

  • it really nice phone from motorola i want know possible sending and receiving data through blutooth because some android mobile like samaung galaxy its not supporting transfer data through blutooth i think because of v 1.5

  • i hope this phone coming soon to asia a want buy this phone very nice

  • Motorola Quench announced for TIM Brazil the Motorola Quench / Cliq XT will be available soon in Brazil, via TIM (the countrys third largest mobile carrier, with more than 40 million subscribers). features include: 3.1 inch HVGA touchscreen display, accelerometer, HSPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Swype, HTML browser, 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, 5MP autofocus camera with flash, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM, and a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor. TIM Brazil will sell the Motorola Quench starting late March for a price that was not announced. The smartphone will also be available in Europe, as well as via T-Mobile USA (as Motorola Cliq XT)

  • this model is simply superb.picture quality everything is good

  • nice phone

  • Awesome phone! The touch-pad makes navigating even better. Hats off to Motorola!

  • processor is same with se x2

  • I also had an A3100, which didn't have anything much wrong except the stupid WM os, which was the reason why I sold it. I'm currently using Milestone/Q9/V9/Z3/E6/EM35/Zn5/V3maxx

  • The specs looks like similar to Motorola A3100. I wonder if it's possible in near future to put android os instead of winmobile in motorola A3100? :/

  • processor sucks quite ferociously

  • Video hands-on with the Motorola Cliq XT - aka the Quench [AC @ MWC]

  • good job i love Touchpad in this phone and new design

  • very good phone good spec and design and good price

  • Motorola Quench VS Lg GD880 Mini VS Samsung S5620 Monte..And The Winner Is???

  • Motorola Quench VS LG GD880 Mini VS Samsung S5620 Monte..And The Winner Is???

  • this is nice mid range smartphone when is available in eur and asia market

  • Motorola Quench is a nice, full touch Android device, headed for the competition in a mid range smartphone market. And it has some pretty decent specs, to do well there: HSDPA connectivity, 3.1 HVGA display, 5mpx camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, E-Compass, etc Motorola Quench is currently running on Android 1.5, and has Moto BLUR interface/service on top of it. The handset can be expected to get an upgrade to Android 2.1 eventually,

  • Capacitive trackpad ? what is this

  • nice phone i want it

  • awful design

  • This one, along with Cliq/Dext, should "have" Crystal Talk. "Does anyone know what is good in Crystal Talk comparing to others noise reduction system?" Simply put, NO OTHER phone maker has made anything even close to Crystal Talk for Moto....and now Moto is offering Crystal Talk2... "Is Motorola good at noise reduction system with Crystal Talk?" Once I was having conversation with my friend, who was using Moto U9 with first generation Crystal Talk, I asked (due to the totally quiet background) as if he was at home, he said, "I am at a carnival!"

  • get both then! In 2008, I bought over 17 Moto phones, both for myself (some are old models about to be phased out...but at good discount for collection purposes) and my family members

  • Good look and function but does it have a Crytal Talk? Does anyone know what is good in Crystal Talk comparing to others noise reduction system? Is Motorola good at noise reduction system with Crystal Talk? Anyway, I like Motorola

  • Milestone is the best, but comes Shadow the beautiful. I don't no which buy. Motorola is the best!!:D

  • This is worthless. Nothing different from others. Just Motorola's version.

  • Capacitive trackpad Adobe Flash Lite® Autofocus Color Effects Flash: LED Geotagging White Balance Camera Digital Zoom (max) 5.4x Stereo speakers Number of Colors 64K (256K via hardware dithering) Pixel Density 160 dpi

  • GSMArena please update the specs : It has : Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz Processor LED Flash HSUPA Stereo speakers FM Radio with RDS

  • milestone still the best from motorola

  • wow terrible specs... bluetooth 1.5? really old andriod version? motorola has nothing, just disappear already..

  • Motorola's new Quench -- or CLIQ XT as it'll be called on T-Mobile USA when it launches next month -- and for an eighth outing in the Android world, it's pretty slick. Sure it lacks keyboard, but the touchscreen is pretty responsive and now includes Swype input on the virtual keyboard -- and we've found with a bit of practice and patience, Swype can be really fast. The soft touch plastic rear of the set can be removed to slip on over covers and shows off the 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash

  • i see nice pictures of this phone but gsmarena select bad pictures of this phone !!?? nice phone

  • OMG design is disaster

  • Hello moto why u come so late?

  • nice and diferent design i like Touchpad in this phone very good mid end smartphone

  • Bluetooth 2.0 :

  • Bluetooth 1.5 instead of 2.1 w/EDR? That seems like a step backward.

  • not good,dont like it

  • The picture clearly shows a flash too next to the camera but I guess we will see the specs updated over time when this becomes closer to official.

  • nice phone.. GSM arena review please.

  • good phone .....motorola good this year

  • thanks moto!

  • bluetooth v1.5 with A2DP and 480x320 pixels video ...

  • beatyful beautyful

  • I believe you entered the screen size wrong... In the News section you mentioned that it has a 3.1" screen... Thanks!

  • my question is simple: WHY ARE THEY SO BIG???? 3,7inch display? nice! but damn why, why so much space below and under the display? Why only dumbphones (like LG GD880 Mini) could be so nice and handy? Quench is not handy! is bulky! almost every new smartphone of the world is BULKY! damn, people, why couldn't you see that? What a stupid trend, to make this shity +1inch frames below and under the display? please tell me....

  • this is fruity phone

  • Nice Phone with Good specifications..
