Motorola RAZR V XT885 - User Reviews

  • Is Motorola xt885 is not upgradeable ?

  • I have had this phone for 4 years and that is only because I am too poor to go and buy a new one or sign up for a new one on a contract which would change my plan. At this point the battery life is pathetic, I might make it til noon if it lets me and that is with very minimal use. I have to charge it in my car on my way to work and on the way home just to attempt to have power til the end of the day. Literately takes 5-10 minutes some times to do anything. I have no idea why. I have to use a antivirus/booster program just to keep it clean enough to use with any decent speed. Some times when you takes pictures the phone just shuts off, or you might take a video then it corrupts it during its encoding. Like most people said, the phone worked fine for a year then it started to go down hill. It is pretty durable but at this age, its pretty stubborn and useless.

  • Gorilla glass and kevlar case. The worst phone on the face of the earth is completely indestructible....go figger. Words fail me in describing what garbage this phone is!

  • I had this phone for 3 years now and it works like shit. It was great the first year but after that it started to freeze a lot when the wifi was activated. I just active it when I need to update my agenda and my apps but it take more than 1h to update 5 apps because of all the freezing stuff and process not responding. If the wifi is off, the phone is working ok to call and text someone but i don't do much more with my phone because all games are now incompatible with my phone and the most useful apps require to root the phone and I don't have a backup rom to restore it so I don't want to try. The battery last 2 days on standby without using the phone. If I use the wifi to update or talk to someone, the battery drop by 1% every 2 minutes. I will throw that phone in the ocean the day I will change to another one.

  • I've had this phone for over 3 years and it works well. I finally broke it and had to end up getting a new phone through Virgin Mobile Smart Plan which still cost me $100 to get the replacement. As this model was still in stock I did not get an upgraded phone which is okay because my husband and I bought identical phones as we tend to swap as needed if one isn't charged. But yes, it does lag the more apps you put on it, and sometimes it freezes if you get too fast in switching from app to app. But Motorola should realize that there are people who still have these phones and either don't want a new phone or can't afford to get a new phone every year. An update to jellybean would be wonderful so that my apps work like they are supposed to.

  • I've had this phone for over 2 years now. It was actually quite a good phone at the time and was quite cheap ($200 in 2013) considering its specifications and features. No real problems, but occasionally it will freeze up and if the screen has water on it (like rain), it goes crazy. I am still getting 2 days battery usage out of it, but this is on GSM mode only and not using it often. On 3G mode and with a bit of usage the battery life is now around 4 to 8 hours, so I tend to leave it on GSM until I need 3G network. Since new I've had a plastic hard cover and screen protector on it and have dropped it numerous times from less than 1m and it still works fine.

  • The screen is terrible all it does is react to sweat and press wrong buttons

  • Love the camera. But like any phone too many apps slow it down. Needs to be rooted to save to SD. WTF is with that?

  • I have a motorola v xt885 and i have download all call recorder bit it wont record or play. Is there any help. Thanks

  • One of the tiredest, saddest, hanging-up P.O.S. on the market today. Takes as long to boot up as Windows. Likes to freeze up, no matter how clean you keep it, especially during a 911 emergency

  • I have had it for almost a year and I think it is great. No problems

  • I believe another way to update this device to Android 4.1.2 and make it more bearable is to flash the sbf for the Motorola Electrify 2 (XT881), since both devices are one and the same.

  • Almost an awesome phone...but half way through production, Motorola said "fuck it, we are over budget" and they gave up... software issues galore. Downloading mobile 360 security app its the pinky way I've found to make this phone bearable.

  • Yes, software hang ups are the weakness of this phone. Installing mobile 360 security can shut off all of the back ground faulted processes. Your phone week be instantly like new, although temporary...

  • To me it is rubbish for the original price, something that could easily have been excellent. People always complain about my call quality, particularly if some noise like aircon is around, or if I use it on one side of my face versus the other. What of all this superior moto call quality? The 4GB internal memory gets mostly chewed up by the system and included apps. I have very little on the phone and everything I can in a SD card, like photos dcmi directory, and regularly get down to around 200MB left which causes the phone to grind down. The lack of install to external SD card, or move part of an app to the card, is like a crime. My phone has been hacked even though this no external SD was supposed to help stop this. My important app data is trapped in the phone to me to backup but not to hackers it seems. Update killed all my data, no update for ages. Gets slow, needs some newer features. Phone locks some user data into it, and no Motorola program to get it out and back it up. So, the user/phone information apps are not up to scratch, and make various little things awkward. Leaked battery and battery going. Usb port on top is a good target for rain. Most of this can be solved with a simple update. As is, this expensive phone was not woath the over $400 original price, but barely the over $200 price I paid for it new in store. You should examine phones you buy for the issues above, and avoid those with them.

  • pls i want the screen

  • i lost my RAZR V XT885 can i trace it ??? please answer as soon as possible

  • My xt 885 is shut down in regular interval automatically, what can i do in this situation please help. ..... Is it software problem? or other than this problem please help fast.thank you.

  • Gopro suggests that Motorola os4 is ok for using the gopro app. The other suggestion is droid. Does this mean my xt885 can support gopro app as a remote monitor? So far no good. Any input would be appreciated thanks

  • goooooood mobile iam fully satisfied with this mobile no issue iam using since 16 mnth

  • my phone freeze, one night and the screen is black. what can i do?

  • I tryed to see if my micro sim would fit the slot and have pushed it in to far now its stuck! i tryed to get it out and pushed it further in! im wondering if you have an idea how much they charge to get it out or fix/ replace the slot if ive damaged it help please! also dont think i have a warranty

  • Great size, nice finish. Saddly this phone has really disappointed me. It came with Android 4.0 but it's as slow as old 2.3 devices. The phone died on me after about 10-11 months of usage. Also don't expect to be able to do modding on it too, it has a locked down bootloader.

  • I like this phone a lot it's camera is as good as a I phones and really thin but it's. A pretty unknown phone so it does not have a lot of accessories available

  • This phone is a good mid-range phone, especially for the price. Do not expect it to be mind blowing or anything, it just does what it has to and does that very well. Battery Life is decent if used lightly or just texting, but will drain quickly if used for other things. Overall, a great phone for the price.

  • Battery power will last all day if used for texting with the odd phone call. Buy when surfing internet, expect to charge afterward. And when gaming, don't even bother trying if your battery is >50%. Use smart actions to disable gps and background actions when phone is not in use. This will help battery life substantially

  • When a phone has x gb space, that is before your carrier uploads their network to it. So space that You can use is lessened by ...? Also, most devices only support 8gb sd cards, and a 12 is unreadable.

  • Its funny that nobody likes this phone... It isn't the greatest phone out there, I've experienced a few glitches with it, and reception isn't great. But overall, i love the styling, the home screen setup is perfect, and smart actions are amazing! Its a metal phone, kevlar backing (which is grippy, tough, and looks classy) and it has gorilla glass. This is a good phone design, good processor, good motorola layout...but a bit glitchy (freezes once per week, some icons relocate automatically, and sometimes text will duplicate itself...) But even with a few quality control issues (what phone doesn't) I'd rate it a 7/10. Its better than my wires galaxy note, and less than half the price!!

  • Sorry, you meant SD card. Try a higher card speed. A class 2 card won't work in a class 4 device.

  • The Sim card on this phone had to be pushed in Really far. Use a pen to insert it. It should click.

  • my son has brought from aus. It works fine and onle i have problrm regarding micro sd card. I tried 3 micro card but i get message it is not supported. • Alright then. Thank you very much for the thorough information, I greatly appreciate it. As long as calling and SMS works I'm fine. I don't even have a data plan lol. (Saves a lot of money) But I guess I'll just save the APN's for future reference. Again thanks for the help.

  • As far as voice call is concerned, you dont need to sim unlock. I have done flashing with my razr V and some of my other cell phone, they all work fine as long as you stick to your original carrier. I sim unlocked my Razr V because I bought it from Virgin mobile and I subsequently switch to Rogers, so I need to unlock it. But, you will lose your APN for data access after updating to the Australian Rom, you will need to manually enter those settings . Once you ahve entered and saved it once, you are good to go for yoru mobile data. So make sure you take a snap shot of your APN page or copy those parameters down before you do your upgrade, otherwise, you cannot have your 3G/4G data access fromn your service provider.(Virgin Mobile). Hope this help.

  • If I want to flash the Australian Rom do I have to SIM Unlock the Phone first? I believe mine is locked to the Virgin Mobile (Bell?) Network in Canada.

  • Make that Motorola Razr XT885 not XT 755

  • My XT755 is supposed to have 4Gb of internal storage. I have used 1.05 Gb for apps, 1.71 Mb for Pictures & videos, 1.04Mb for Downloads but it tells me I only have 205Mb available and that storage is low. I have an external 12 Gb SD card. Why is this so. Is there any way of accessing the extra 2Gb+ that should be available or is Motorola fibbing/misleading when it says it has 4Gb available on the phone?

  • I don't think there's any yet. Not sure if they will be available.

  • Where can we get SBF for jellybean?

  • Will try if there are SBFs for jellybean.

  • If that is the case. Try to network unlock your phone and flash the Australian retail rom into your razrV, you can then get the OTA update to jelly bean 4.1.2.

  • Where did you get the information that Bell and Wind mobile will not upgade this phone to Jellybean.

  • Bell and wind will not be getting jellybean update.

  • good phone, only problem is no custom roms and battery life is not that great. Other than that this phone runs games really well, no lag, nice qHD resolution on a 4.2 inch screen and has really good call quality.

  • So does anyone no if Xposed framework works on this phone (modify your ROM without modifying any APK (developers) or flashing (users))???

  • I am with Bell and bought the phone from Bell. I unlocked it with a code which works for telus, bell, rogers, fido. I flashed the phone with Wind SBF and inserted a working Wind SIM card, but it did not detect it. So the hardware for XT885 and XT886 is somewhat different? Would it work if i get unlock code for wind, mobilicity?

  • All RazrV model shown in this site, XT/885, 887 and 889 have the same frequency on the 2G network. Although there maybe different on 3G. I guess for voice calling, you only need to use 2G network and it will work fine with different RazrV model. I suppose Wind mobile also has the same 2G frequency network so there should not be any problem on vocie calling on the 2G network. I am also using 2G network for my voice call as it uses less battery poweras compared to 3G or 4g network.

  • The frequency for rogers/telus/bell is different from wind/mobilicity. Can anyone confirm the JB can work with wind's voice ?

  • No. The voice calling will not be affected by the APN. I was referring to data connection as this was what happened to me before. However, I have no problem with the voice calling function even I am using international ROM on my razrV or with my other phone. However, I am with Rogers but I am not sure about the wind network. I suppose the frequency here should all be the same here in Ontario so there should not be a problem as far as voice calling is concerned. Only the data network will be affected as it is controlled by the APN.

  • APN is for data and MMS only ? why will it affect the home/roam of voice service ? maybe wind voice is over data ?

  • Yes, you cannot flash back to ICS from Jellybean. The reason you cannot connect back to Wind network is becasue the Accesspoint name setting have dissapeared. this happen everytime you flash to a rom of different country, so you have to mannually re enter those setting and save it. just go to setting, more, mobile network, access point name. click mannual button, click new apn, then enter those setting. After finish, click mannual button again to save it. you are good to go.

  • To those people who cannot connect it back to teh wind network. It is bcause your APN has been deleted. I ahve my RazrV unknocked and I am using it on Rogers network. Even I unknocked the network adn use teh Rogers Sim card after updating to Jellybean, I cannot connect to my Rogers network because the Access point name (APN)is dissapeared. I have to mannually entered teh settign and save it. therefore, You have to manually entered those settings manully after your update. Once you have entered it once and saved it, you are good to go with the Wind network or whatever network you are with. Hope this help.

  • I'm with bell but WiFi kept dropping constantly so i tried wind ROM and it looks like the problem is solved

  • Are you with Wind? Everything worked for me except not being able to connect to my home network. Let me know if it works for you if you're on wind. You may just wanna do it, it always takes forever for carriers in Canada to release updates, I'm so tired of waiting on them. They never give you a straight answer either

  • Yea I'm just waiting for MOTO to confirm if there is going to be a JB update in Canada. If not, then I'll flash AU ROM.

  • The Australian ROM for same reason doesn't let me connect to my wind home network, only roaming. I have to flash back to the wind rom to get it back, I dont want to update to jelly bean when im on the Australian because I'm afraid I'll lose the ability right flash back to the ICS wind rom

  • I'm able to update as well but have no connection to wind home at all. I don't want to go to jelly bean cuz I won't be able to flash back to the original wind rom which ics, I don't think you can flash down to an older android version, unless im wrong.

  • You shoudl be able to flash ths Australian rom on your Wind XT866. I have tried to flash rom from Bell XT855 to Wind XT 866 before going for the Sustralian rom. There is no problem exact that they change the model number. The hardware and the network bandwidth, etc are all the same. The phone works basically identical butwith some different bloatwares installed. Once I flash to Austrailian retail ICS, I did not get any bloadtware and I got notification for updating to Jellybean OS 5 weeks ago. Hope thsi help.

  • I flashed the Australian ICS onto my Wind mobile RAZR V, my phone won't connect to Wind Home anymore though, only Wind Away. Does anyone know a possible fix or is it because the Australian ROM doesn't support the 1700 AWS band that Wind Mobile uses? My phone isn't unlocked either, maybe that would help? Thanks!!

  • I am using AU jellybean now and It is not laggy at all. It i ssmootehr and faster than ICS from Bell. Also it resolves my touch screen resposiveness problem. Overall, it is better than Bell ICS.

  • yea im not upgrading yet to jelly bean from AU as im waiting for moto to confirm if there upgrading CA ICS. I was trying Wind to solve wifi problem. Also i heard AU Jelly Bean lags and is buggy.

  • Try to flash the Australia Retail ICS rom into your Razr V XT-855 and you will get update to Jellybean 4.1.2 right way.----------the razr v from wind is XT886 , can it be upgraded use this rom (Australia Retail ICS rom)?

  • From the following link, the one shows UNKNOWN CARRIER is the wind mobile .

  • where did you find the Wind Mobile SBF? The Droid Developers SBF link does not show Wind?

  • This phoen will only get 4G speed as a maximum. I have tested it by clicking *#*#4636#*#* and set the network to LTE(prefered)/WCDMA/GSM. after this setting, I am still getting 3G/H+(4G)but no LTE. I believe there i sno LTE radio chip inside the phone or the TIOMAP processor does not support LTE. I have it unlocked and I am using it with Rogers network. However, even with 4G but not LTE, the download speed is still quite fast on data.

  • i am using xt885 with virgin canada, network symbol on top right corner mostly indicates 3G or H+ however i live in LTE zone, doest it show LTE to any one with this phone? please also mention which provider u r with?

  • i got this phone second hand unlocked from market dont have the box i am still not sure if it supports LTE or not!! i called virgin they told me it comes in two types one is 4g and other is LTE how to find out which one is mine?? i am not even sure information they game me is accurate.

  • I am also using a microsim card with a mini sim card adapter in my RazrV, so it is not a problem to use it in this phone.

  • When you download the Australian ICS file, it is a Zip file and you just save it into your computer and extract it to a folder in your computer. You also download and install the RSD lite into the computer. When you run the RSD lite, A window will open. You then insert the file that you extracted by clicking the little button beside the filename slot. The file is a fast boot file and is of the type XML.You will see the software information on the file properties window of the RSD lite program. Then when you click start, the phone will start flashing and it will reboot after flashing finish. Hope this help.

  • just another thing i noticed specs of this phone says mini-sim but mine required bigger sim actually i has s3 before which took mini sim but when i bought xt885 i had to get an adopter to fit my mini sim and my minisim with adopter went in xt885.

  • thanks, I was able to download RSD lite 6.0 and australian update on my computer i am being cautious as I dont have any prior knowledge of bricking my phone, I am missing few steps from downloading 2 above applications and extracting files in two diffrent folders till i connect my pnone to computer!! i guess this is the most critical stage. any help ??

  • Copy and paste the following link to your browser address bar and press enter when you see the page, click the 4th one from top which said Australia Retail with 460.9MB. Then flash with RSD lite 6.0

  • australian ics link doent work!!

  • Yes you can. I have flashed the Wind Razr V OS Rom into my phone because my Razr V has some touch screen responsiveness problem with the Bellmobility OS, but it did not help much so I flashed back to the Bell mobility rom from Wind. Finally I flashed the Austrailian Retail OS into my Razr then the touch screen problem dissapeared and I also got OTA notification on April 17 that I could update to Jellybean and there I had it. So,you could always flashed different rom as long as it is for the same phone( No cross flashing) and it is at the same level of software. I.e ICS to ICS, but not ICS to Gingerbread or Jellybean to ICS. So you are flashing from ICS to ICS , you should be ok. But remember that once you have updated to ICS, you have cannot flash back to ICS. I dont know whether the OTA is stilll available or not as it has been out for 2 weeks already so good luck, hope you can have your phone updated like I did.

  • can some one make a youtube video on how to upgrade xt885 on bell to jelly bean ??

  • OK thanks got it, but after flashing Australia ICS is it possible to flash Bell CA ICS back if I don't get the OTA update?

  • I love the design but this phone has poor ability to get a signal and has poor battery life. Can't wait to get rid of this phone!

  • Firstly, download the flash tool for Motorola devices called 'RSD lite 6.Search from the web or Xda developer web site to obtain the download link. Secondly, download the Australian Retail ICS rom from the following web link: Thirdly, turn on USB debut from your phone.Turn off your phone. Press power, volume up and volume down button at the same time and let go when you see a list of options appear on the phone screen. Use volume down to scroll down to AP fastboot mode.Use volume up to select AP fastboot. Connect your phone to the micro USB and your PC while on AP fastboot mode. Open RSD lite, select the ICS rom you just downloaded, click start button and let it do the job until it finish. Be careful about bricking your phone if you are not fully familiar with the procedures, I suggest you search from the internet to see the actual procedures to flash roms into Motorola razr using RSD lite as I am nor responsible for any damage to your phone due to improper procedures used during flashing.

  • Yes, SMS and phone calling work normally with the Australian retail rom because those features depend on your sim card, not the software. The only trouble is that you may not automatically get the APN setting for your mobile data, so you may have to manually enter the APN setting like I did. If you don't know what is the APN settings for bell or Wind, take a snapshot on the setting page first. So you can follow the snapshot of the APN page to manually enter the settings for your mobile data to work after updating to Jellybean. Apart from this, everything works just perfectly.

  • Hey, can you write down the steps u used to update to the Australian version?

  • so does calling and sms work after without any problems? Currently I'm on the Bell Canada version, so I just flash australia retail with RSD lite and everything will work fine?

  • jellybean 4.1.2 is now available for the Australia retail version. I update it through OTA last night. I brought mind in Canada with the bellmobility ICS OS. I flashed the Australia Retail ICS OS software into my Razr V using RSD lite and last night I got a notification for update to Jellybean 4.1.2. If any of you guy out there is stuck with your Bells or Wind Mobile Razr V and never receive jellybean 4.1.2 update, you can do what I did. Try to flash the Australia Retail ICS rom into your Razr V XT-855 and you will get update to Jellybean 4.1.2 right way.

  • I don't know why people are coming the poor Wi-Fi reception of this phone. I have no problem connecting Wi-Fi to this phone wherever there is a Wi-Fi connection. However, I did have problem with the touch screen at the beginning. The touch screen was not response in most of the situation. However, I got rid of the Bell ICS OS software and flashed the Australia Retail ICS OS into my phone, now the touch screen responses in every situation and the phone runs very fluid. Also, Jellybean 4.1.2 update will be available in Australia shortly within April , although it may not be available in Canada. After upgrading to Jellybean, this phone will be even better.

  • Been Using since Dec. 2012. Can't wait to get rid of it. Tired of looking for that special spot in the house to have reception and battery life hardly lasted a whole day.

  • 5 months of using this phone would amount to a decent amount of hands-on experience...except that for 3 of those months, phone was in repair hell and is headed there again. Don't buy, nothing but trouble.

  • Has very poor ability to pick up signal.I am in a flat rural location only 4 kms from the transmitter, this phone often does not work here, whilst other phones do. My much loved old flip razr had no problems at the same location. This phone cost twice the old phone I certainly did not expect this problem, so it is a fail.

  • I have personally a set of Motorola RAZR V XT885, on Canada's Bell Mobility data plan. Its reception is perfect, battery life is acceptable and above average for something internal based and so thin. The screen is beautiful, it perceives vibrant and accurate, not overly saturated like Samsung's or a bit dull and less contrasted like HTC's. The size is perfect as well, justifying its "kevlar-grade" built quality, which I think is fair enough to say so. I am not experiencing any call volume issues, both parties at both ends hear each other perfectly through the phone's hands-free and speakerphone. The overall performance of this phone, is much granted by its high price-to-performance ratio, which for only MSRP 300 dollars, you get an android 4.x.x with dual core processing power. What I personally like is that it takes in mini-sim (I laugh at those who say it uses a full-size, I mean, seriously...?), so it is compatible with most prepaid sim cards if one was to travel abroad without international coverage/roaming plans. Overall I recommend this phone, it is a keeper.

  • Why is the daily viewer interest that low? how does it compare with the sony phones price to feature wise? the non removable battery is a matter of concern, isn't it?

  • Decent phone only if you get it very cheap. Average/poor microphone and speaker. Only 2GB internal flash. Otherwise decent.

  • A full-sized SIM is the size of a credit card. No modern phone uses a full-sized SIM. The specs here are correct; the SIM is a mini SIM. Not to be confused with a micro SIM which is what you meant. You should know this if you work@phone store!

  • if you say this thing uses "Full Size SIM card", it will be as big as a credit card. Last "cellular phone" use full size SIM card that I knew was back at early 1990's (CMIIW, maybe some "PABX card" still using it these days) Source :

  • This has a Full sized sim not a mini sim... be careful- not all specs are 110% correct

  • very bad microphone volume opposite party hardly hear ur voice one must talk louder checked with service provider no issues with network its build mic problem

  • Mini Sim is the standard sim we see. Actual sim used to be credit card size.

  • small amount of memory means app to sd is needed. you may get frustrated with internal memory filling up quickly. apart from this, quite a bargain!

  • This phone uses full size SIM card, not micro SIM. (also, what is mini SIM GSMArena?)

  • This beautiful phone remarkable Kmoasfat design how wonderful you are, O Moto
