u have to install i tunes old version on ur computer..... then add songs to its library..... then connect ur mobile 2 the pc tru usb...... & manage it by i tunes.... then u can easily transfer songs from ur oc in itunes

This is awesome phone, i only had some complications with my first and second rokrs, but i changed that due to warranty. but my 3-rd rokr work ideal over 3 years! i even dropped it 2 times, and after each dropping a joystick becomes work with some difficulties(self ckicking to right side), but my rokr was selfhealed each time! for any other phone i used before first drop was a first step for nearly death...

Rokr's mic usually "leaves" its connector, specially if dropped (even on soft surfaces, like carpets or rugs). Don't spend money with Motorola dumb technicians - get a torx set, open the phone and re-attach the mic to its place; that should solve the problem.

Ok Motorola Rokr E1 i bough this phone a yr ago after a couple months it started acting up so what i did i tried 2 flash it not knowing how to do that i had accidentally disable the vibrate lol so i went did some reasearch got some files an flashed it to another firmware the problem is within the original rokr firmware so what you can do is have the firmware updated/modd thats what i did and it works fine now an then you may encounter a stick only because service dropped any one looking for rokr e1 mod files etc..moto hell is awesome

When it wants you to enter the lock code press the menu key. It will then ask you for the security code which is set as 000000 as default & that will let you change/remove the lock code.

I got this phone when it first came out a few years ago, and i adored it. After having it for a few months, it started doing the freezing thing that everyone else is talking about. I'd try to type something whether it was in a text or in a contact, and it would freeze up. I always blamed it on the fact that i had a bit of a temper, and had a nasty habit of throwing/dropping the phone. Luckily, I had insurance, so I got a new one. That one did just fine for over a year, i believe. The only reason I got a new phone was because I sort of shattered the screen on my rokr. (Long story.) Anyway, I literally cried when I couldn't use my rokr e1 anymore. That's how attached I was to that phone. I'd give it a 9.8/10. TO HELP PREVENT FREEZING: I'd say just take care of it. Don't slam it or throw it. Also, be weary of what songs you put on it. I'd stay away from putting song from limewire on your phone. If a file from limewire contains some sort of virus, it can get to your phone. Hence, the freezing. For those whose phones are freezing up now, i'd say try taking the songs off your phone and see what that does. It may or may not help.

this was an awful phone when i had it. it is too chunky and it chips and scratches easily. as for the music....rubbish, only 100 songs. the phone is slow and the camera is maybe one of the worst i've seen. it brings a vga camera when most phones started using 2.0 mp.

the rokr ist limited by contract to use maximum of 100 itunes songs, because of the ipod shuffle. if you expect a more limited nuber of songs you have to reduce the size of your files. maybe you encode your mp3 with for example 320kbit/s switch to 128 kbits and you need much less space on your memory card. and the copying speed to your phone increases, too. the rokr only supports USB 1.0 standard speed. in itunes is be an option to "check" that allows you to switch the lower encoding quality for your files copied to the phone by automatic. the quality is more than good for listening on the walk. :-)

I have had this phone for over 30 months. It has met all my needs. There are some problems though. The phone hangs and restarts in some text environments, such as phone book. (just imagine you are going to send a rush SMS to someone and the phone hangs when you hit the option button to send the SMS!!!!) The other point is the storage for SMSes. I have to empty my messages almost everyday, and I can not save any. I can only lock them, but takes up the very tiny memory allocated for messages and you will have lower capacity for future messages. By the way, when you insert another SIM into your phone, all your locked messages are gone forever. I have not had any major technical issue with the phone. Although the build is not outstanding, but after 30 months I have faded numbers on the keypad and nothing more. All buttons ad everything else functions like the first day.

Most dissappointed in this company. I bought a Rokr E1 about 2 years ago. About 8 months ago the itunes button was non-functional. I call Motorola; they say I must have "accidentally deleted" the software. I use this thing once a week, I can't even FIND the "delete software" options in its maze. To get it fixed I must mail it in, and pay $75 bucks. To install software! Wow, that must be a real four-hour job done by a lab tech. What a rip off. Future product purchases: Motorola? I think not.

to send files any file to pc without USB you can are goint to have to use a card reader. save files to scandisk then insert it into car reader then just delete or transfere yor files to the card. load the car back into the phone and switch to the storage device and ur files should be there

i have had this phone since the start of 06... i had a few initial problems with it freezing so i took it back and the manufacturer fixed it.. i havent had any issues since... i love love love this phone... the sound quality is awesome... i have no intention of upgrading until i absolutely have to... it is such a tough phone.. i have dropped and accidentally kicked it into a wall and thought it was gonna be stuffed, picked it up and it worked as good as ever! :o) great phone!

What are u trying to say. It was one of d best at the time of production. So stop complaining. Till now not many phone can beat it in term of music quality. A phone at this price with decent reception and above average music, why not worth buying. Not to mention its has sync lighting effects and a little heart beating to the music. Motorola E1 is the best. For the Camera, the VGA is the best. For the Sound is the best. I have compared to other great sound phones but E1 is the best (for the surround, for the stereo and for the bass). For the Video Camera is the best too according to available memory card, U can record unlimited time video. And one of the greatest news is the E1 can use 1G or even 2G. I've tried 1G and then I try to 2G abd it runs well without anything disappointed. I think, if there's something wrong with Ur E1, it could be U careless with Ur E1. Mine is work well until I write this comment and I bought the E1 November 2007. Motorola, Keep on Rocking the World through Ur ROKR! Viva La Moto!

I'm sure that deep down in a creepy mussy damped old wine cellar that has been abandoned for more years than anyone alive can account for, lives an old guy whose life was wonderful until Motorola ruined it. As revenge, he designed this phone hoping it would bring Motorola down. This is the worst mobile I have ever had in my life. The only good thing that this phone has, as stated before, is it's sound. It has the most amazing set of loudspeakers. To be fair, the keypad is fairly comfortable and the whole body looks sturdy enough. Sooo not worth buying. Stay away from it and if you have any in sight, stab it repeatedly with a piece of wood and make sure you have some garlic on you. But seriously, the user interfase is slow and takes a gazillion clicks to get anything done. The settings are all spreaded through a web of awful menus that make no sense at all. The screan is just ok. I've always hated iTunes, but that's just me. Any $50 usd crappy phone has faster bluetooth and the usb-transfer is just as slow as bluetooth. The media playing experience is ok, I guess, but far worse that any nokia xpressmusic or SE w-series. On the bright side... it's pretty and so far hasn't crashed on me. Don't... buy... go hook yourself to the electrical plug of your house if you want to try the experience of configuring this phone.

This phone is AWESOME! If you're looking for music, it can get by. The major trouble is the memory. But, it's the only great thing talking about it. The other functions, like camera and video player are quite horrible. That's the why I'm upgrading to A1200.

Andrew, I just read down to and saw your messge you post about your keypad- the red button is the only one that works, and the keys just stopped working. I have the same exact issue. What did you do to fix it? It's not a water problem; it's my second phone and it has been no where near water.

This phone is driving me crazy! I'm having major problems with the key pad. I can turn the phone on and off, but I can't use any of the other keys. I can receive calls but can't use the key pad to answer. This is my second phone and I'm still having the same problem. Have anyone else had this encounter? Suggestions?

To get the phone to stop the vibe when playing a downloaded ringtone, just do a system clear from initial setup. The code for it is 000000. Make sure you have all your phone entries on the sim and all photos and anything you want to save stored on an SD micro card. Stopped the vibe for me....

I got this phone as a hand me down and it worked great until today. You can't hear people on the other end of calls and when you turn it off the flash stays on. A couple minutes ago I took out the battery and put it back in and now its just flashing black and white and gray. i tried putting it on the charger but that just made it worse! Please help!

Andrew, it's likely u may have to change the strip or flash your phone if the bootloader appears.

Andrew to flash your phone, u must have flash&backup or rsdlite program, google it. It's a program for motorola phones. As for trini people. I'm a trini as well, likely u weren't using the correct software version.

this phone worked real good for the first 4 months that i owned it. After that this phone was the worst. Everything gives trouble in this phone the video quality sucks and it freezes as well. I flashed this phone like 3 times and still no luck. generally this phone is the worst motorola ever made.

I use to love this phone but recently I've been having problems with it. Often times when I answer an incoming call the screen freezes and afer and 30 seconds it shuts off. To get it working again I have to remove the battery and replace it. Also, I can't even hold many songs in it anymore. I use to hold 100, but now it says the memory is full. I have no songs on my phone, but in iTunes it says I used 376 mbs. I can't figure out why. I've deleted everything on my phone besides my contacts and text messages but still no luck. It's frustrating. I don't know if I like Motorola anymore! :(

Hi Bek! I have this phone for almost two years now...So i think i know pretty much about this. Anyways, about your question how come whenever you try to download a ringtone, it doesn't ask where to save, that means the downloading didn't push through.ROKR E1, does not support WAV. MP3,yes. You wouldn't notice the error at first because you would see the progress (% completed) on your screen. But the real test whether it's successful or not is if you hear the tone after downloading. After which, you now have the option where to save. Hope this helps

i work at a store that used to sell the phone. so i 'broke into' the display model demo and took the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor which it had and now use normal headphones which sound waaay better. although i cant use it as a handsfree anymore. lol btw i also 'broke into' a creative zen demo box and took some awesome headphones. lol hurrah for taking advantage of the situation! note not liking how it wont register music files from a memory card as a ringtone. but its still awesome.

I found this to be a very reliable phone. However within 1 month the port for the charger didn't always work as well as the port for headphones stopped working. Apart from that it has awesome audio. I found the internal memory was inadequate (far too small). I had to edit mp3's so they'd fit so I could use them for ringtones. It does have external memory card slot but you can't use and external memory mp3 for a ringtone. well i couldn't anyway. i love that with this phone you can lock access to things. I used to have very untrustworthy friends that would read my text msg's. If i want I can lock it so nobody but me can access it. I'm now getting the K3. Hopefully that has the same great features minus the bad ones.

Best phone after E398 era. The price, the quality, the feature appropriate with what we need from a basic phone. Why I call this basic phone? Because out there so many phone with better feature but also higher price :p It's all I can get with my budget. I only need listen to the music with good speaker and also when using handsfree. The bass surround really2 come out. @bleurdeur The problem not come from the phone but from your card reader or your memory card. I suggest you can format the microsd using another card reader or from the phone itself to know which one is the source of problem.

I've been trying to transfer music mp3's to my transflash via its adapter thruogh a generic card reader but it doesn't work...syas card is write-protected but if I had it formatted thru the card reader it says unformatted on the phone itself. i really like the itunes function thingo. it only lets you play up to 50songs, but its still good, thats about one playlist, so i still really like it. BUT i dont like how you cant apply songs that are on the memory card as your ringtone, you have to move it to the phone memory, which is very annoying. also, it uses a 2.5mm jack instead of a normal 3.5mm one. overall however, i really like it. :)

Download new iTunes version 2. Run MotoMidMan (version 0.35 or higher) and delete corelet (previous version of iTunes), restart mobile phone (Tip: Use Restart button). 3. Press "install" in MotoMidMan and select iTunes jad file. 6. Restart phone again, in MotoMidMan right click iTunes and select "Attributes", remove all attributes. 7. This phone is competent and a solid performer but its crippled by its dependency on Itunes as you can't really listen to music other than that from itunes on it. Limited to 100 songs too. Otherwise menu are ok a bit tired very solid and seems virtually resistant to scratching.Camera is good one of the best VGA's and it can shoot short video clips. One other thing though the phone has what Motorola call 'Rhythm lights' on both sides. These seenm to serve no other purpose than to drain the battery annoyingly they flash green while the phone charges meaning the phone takes an age to charge.

to the person using the computer id F4ps. what do u know, he can add music using the steps that i provided to him, of which he can listen to his music through his sounds, if u weren't understanding his question. duh. however, if he would like to play his music through his itunes, he would need to install the itunes software on his computer and connect his phone to the computer where he can download whatever songs to the itunes via a computer.

Alvaro, u can add mp3 to your phone by using a card reader to attach to your computer. Open audio, then drag the files to the memory card. U would then have songs on your phone.

Hadis, I used my E1 moderately, and I need to recharged the battery every 3-4 days. Either your battery is old or faulty, or only you and God knows how you're using your phone that resulted in you having to carry a charger around with you. Its not only my opinion, ten of my friends uses the E1 and they can vouched for what I say. Be waiting for your re-post. Be fair to Rokr E1.

The only problems i've had with this phone is the battery life is too short i have to charge it every day also it blanks off and the screen becomes white and then comes back on but this does not happen too often should not happen at all.Sound quality is great videos show well, fell down many times still works

People, don't complain and critised about the charger connection and your problem about charging. If u have read the instruction, it stated very clearly about this, if u chould to ignore and abused it then why complain now. I have the phone for almost 2 yrs and everything is working find. Treat yr equipment with care and they will provide you with many years of good service. Rokr E1 is the best of his category.

I bought E1 last week and It's so wonderfull phone that I ever had coz all people at my home and my office love my E1 and they want to change their phones with E1 coz of the best sound and the camera. But, onething that I dont like is the color. I cant find the black one coz in Medan, no black ones anymore so I must get the white one but it's OK coz I have already in love with E1. We each have a right to our own opinions, but I have had my rokr e1 for little over a year and it's been great I have a 1gb card in it and have over 60 full music videos plus personal vids including the 100 songs in itunes and about 70 more in the phones media player and lots of pics. To this date I have not had a problem with the rokr I am aware that it is not an ipod but the way I look at it's a cellphone with some extras. I enjoy the fact of having the convinience of a cell phone and a music and video player all in one plus text messaging and WAP access all in one.Hmmm, I was thinking of putting a 2gb mem. card so I could load my favorite movies onto it. Like I said everyone has their own opinion but personally, taking into consideration that I've accidentally dropped the phone (butterfinger syndrome) onto the pavement 3 times and it has not lost a beat. I have to give motorola props for it. I think it made a cool phone that takes abeatin and keeps arockin.

Chris, If u have to compare then let me tell u. First N73 belongs to the smartphone series where by not only do they have a good camera, the also have a o/s for loading programs and other features whereby E1 doesn't have. So why do u have to compare a car and a MPV and say that your Mpv can carry much more people. Common sense will tell u. Furthermore the price is also so much different. However, a E1 without equalizer will beat your N73 hands down in term of music quality. I currently still hold the E1 after more than a year of usage and have recently got N73 for the advance features. Even with the N73 equalizer the music is still inferior in terms of quality (not Loudness, as Loudness without quality = noise. Better treat your N73 with care, the way your E1 broke after a month, I am worried for your N73.

I have had my ROKR E1 for 13 months. I too have had problems where it just freezes and you can not type any letters in texts or add contacts. I first had this problem after having it for about six weeks. I sent it off to get repaired and they replaced the screen and keypad. It worked for another two months then I had the same problem again. I needed the phone for calls so never got round to having it repaired again. My husband also got a ROKR E1 at the same time as me and hardly used his phone so recently gave it to me so I can text. I have been using it for three weeks now and last night it broke on me - Same problem as other phone. I am not happy as the warranty has ran out but will phone Motorola today to see what they say. I can't afford to keep buying and replacing phones.

I have had my phone for 8 months and twice all of the buttons except for the hang up/ power button has stopped working. The first time they said that it was because of water damage. I was confused because I had never gotten any liquid on it. 3 months later I have the same problem and before I take it in I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem with the motorola ROKR E1... if you have let me know please. something just happened to my phone and i was wondering if anybody could help as i am not very good at phones. I was playing a song on itunes and then it sort of froze so i turned it off then on again. However when i turned it on again i cannot enter the menu, or enter in numbers. U can only only have max 512mb memory card with E1. With Music files (50/100 for itunes & endless under the ringtone section), Pictures files, Videos (Clips are time limited by Motorola for a reason) & your own download of video-no time limit(DVD & VCD too by using a converter to have then in 3gpp format) Why do u still want to burden your memory card with sms saving if it is that important, lock it up to protect it for reference when u need it. Just think, if u are have a product to sell will u include everything at one go ? If u will then better don't be in sales. Thanks

ROKR E1 USERS I'm from Singapore and I would like to inform Singapore E! user that ver 42R is for Singtel subscribers and 46R for Starhub subsribers. I'm wondering after reading the earlier post whether if it is correct to say which is latest ver based on just the version number. Anyway I can speak for other countries but here Motorola Singapore has confirm that to-date there has been no update of the software since launch last year. My one year old E! with ver 42R is still the latest. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And let us know for those who have the so call latest software what the difference and improvement. Thanks

Ho Ballababe, Have U got it figure out yet ? The adapter is for U to convert by putting yr microsd card into it, to be used as a standard SD card, notice the size. Same with mini Sd card too. So by all means DON'T PUT THE MICRO CARD IN THE ADAPTER AND TRY TO INSERT THAT INTO THE E1. Clear.

Hi ppl, First time here though I've used E1 for more than a year. This phone requires some understanding, once U got it, U will be rewarded handsomely. Bear with me. I too felt that 50 songs limit for S'pore and 100 for Europe wastoo little. What I did was create playlists of songs I like in various situation/occasions and sync them. I fill up the phone with rest of songs (limited by yr memory card) on the ringtone section. It works for me. As to the volume of songs, hit the song title in itune, select get info. U can adjust the volume higher. Understand that the tiny speaker do not produce super base. Goto the equalizer preset and get the settings U R happy with. Set your own type if U must rather than use the preset. If the source (songs) is soft in nature. Pls use editing software to increase the volume prior to loading to phone. The songs playing from my phone never fails to impress all around me. Let U in on a known secret, even Motorla staff agrees with me and took my tips. They also advised me to stick to E1 cos' as compared to V3? & E2 E1 sound is the best (got vibration, others don't)ever try putting this phone on the table and be amazed how different the music sounds. If U are still around, let me share with u somemore. This phone package does not come with a converter program to gpp3. Don't worry, get nokia pcsuite from yr friend rather that used priated copies of gpp3 converter, the sound & video lousy. Remember to set option to unlimited else only short clips are done. Don't be greedy, convert only short movie or part of it, remember nobody hangs aroung to see the whole show. Let them thinks and wonder why yr phone is able to play movie. I had my son's short video nursery ryhmes converted and download to E1. Sure keeps him quite & still on long journey. Sad to say, due to the screen size & other functions offered by N73, I past it on to my wife which was using a C550 (More than 3 yrs old and still working fine.) First time using not Motorola phone, cos' the E2 offered in S'pore looks yak and the white version was not brought in after appeal by more than 30 E2 wanna buyer. Anyway, my frank opinion, Others maybe louder, but without the quality of E1, its all noise. Thanks for your patience. @ albert - use MotoSound for increasing the volume ( just google that and u'll find the application it's free ), i guess E1 has the best sound ever.. and for iTunes u should install the latest iTunes for your phone!

I got this phone in April and it has great features. If you save your music to the memory card and not to the i-tunes you can get more than 10 songs on it. The camera was pretty good as well. The bad things were that everytime you wanted to recieve something by bluetooth you wou8ld have to turn your bluetooth to find me even if it was already on and it only stays on for a minute. Also, my phone started playing up in November and then by December it had completely broke and the screen was upside down and back to front. After that nothing showed up on the screen and every time i tried to turn it on or charge it, it started making a high pitched noise. Hopefull, the website says that if you take it into a carphone warehouse they can fix it for you. It is a pretty good phone if you can be bothered with all the hassel.

i like the sound of this phone, the bass is great, greater than the mega bass of SE. but im still thinking its not loud enough via speakerphone. i compare to Nokia 3250 and it look very inferior. anyone can help me how can to make the sound louder? somebody in this forum talking about motokit and P2k. But when im install p2k, and open it, it didnt detect my phone, never, eventhough i'd already changed the conection with data/fax connection instead of memory card in usb settings. also the other bad things of this phone: 1. sometimes when i plucked the usb cable to my pc, it doesnt detect my phone. 2. when i charge my phone battery, sometimes it doesnt work (unable to charge). 3. the i tunes only can store not more than 50 songs, which make me very furious... if i have more money, i will change my rokr. VERY COMPLICATED PHONE.

to george, george u must change ur usb setting to memory card in the "connectivity" in "setting menu" if u hav done that... when transfering song u must drag the song to ur memory card which is on the left under source... if u still cant transfer i think its is ur usb problem...

thi celophone is great. I have bought 2 with no problems. Also, the speakers are totally unique and really really powerfull (they even vibrate), better sound than any sony ericcson w(xxx). Also very complete, it has everything you need and more. I really recomend it

Hi.. to the person who's wondering about the 3D support.. it does support 3D games. About the pictures.. the resolution is only VGA and it's true their quality at night is quite poor. However it does take good pictures in daylight. You cannot use it as an image displayer. And you cannot see pictures full screen unless you set them as wallpapers.. but.. the problem is that doing this crops the image a bit. I would recommend transfering the photos to a PC. I've transfered a lot of picts to my Nokia6682 via Bluetooth.. and I can't believe that the Nokia one shows perfectly well how clear the Rokr E1 pictures are. All in all.. it takes good pictures..but..not for being displayed on this phone.. LOL.. quite weird, isn't it?

Hi! i have had this phone for a day and it is awesome!!! ok the menus are a tiny bit slow but apart from that an excellent phone! i was amazed with the screen size and the brightness of the 262k colour screen. Although camera is only VGA it is very good quality compared to other phones. Joystick...... well im still getting used to it but its very comfy on my fingers! İ recommend this phone to all!

Last time I've E398, then sell it cause of lack of memory software. After that buying same Model E398 Hijacked Version (Malaysian Product). A bit Improved, still lack software and bluetooth problem. Now just buy this model phone ROKR E1. Really nice and Improved!!! Just for Software iTunes -> improve sound quality. GOT Video camera, Bluetooth OK.

Hi, it's me again. It's only true that this phone is quite slow. But, the sound quality is really good compared to other phones. For those complaining about video duration and that Nokia phones are better, let me tell you this.. I've recently got a Nokia 6682 and now I've got both phones. The two together make a great team cause what's weak in the E-1 is strong in the Nokia and the other way about. So, I would advice Nokia lovers to keep this phone and get a Nokia with bluetooth.. you can share pictures and videos with both at the same time. So, to take pictures and record videos I'll use the Nokia. And for listening to music I'll use my Rokkr... so, problem dealt with! The Nokia one is far faster... so you just record videos with your Rokkr and play them on the Nokia, and you just play games with the Nokia.. everything dealt with. Call me crazy, but, this is my solution LOL

I have recently bought this phone off ebay and my god this is a gorgeous phone!!! My mate has one and its excellent! And the best thing is the iTunes (and come on guys u cant say that 100 songs isnt enough!and if u r ur just being greedy!) and just because it looks like an E398 don't mean it is 1! I have no regrets buying this stunning phone and am very happy i chose it over a Moto V3x cuz i heard so many bad reviews on them. exactly like the e398@rokr. i've bought a rokr E1 a few weeks ago. i'm really disappointed w/ this phone. i thought that it could substitute my old diskman and my game boy. the itunes doesn't support songs higher than 128kbps. the phone doesn't have special keys for music (like play, pause, forward), so sometimes it's hard to control itunes. most of the games run very slowly. i can't believe that i've waited so long to deserve this thing. MOTOROLA never again. i'm going back to NOKIA.

@Century - the maximum bitrate supported by iTunes is 192Kbps, u may be tryin to play songs with higher bitrate.if it's not that try to install another iTunes. u can find out how by google ;)

@chch0892-try to upgrade it to a new firmware. @everyone askin about unlimited video recording-try to upgrade to 6FR or 70R firmware. for 4XR u still can change the video lenght by seem editing. @Sergio-u CAN have more than 100 songs on ur phone with newer iTunes (the one on ur phone is Ver 1.0) the phone is great eventho nothing has changed from E398.im using it for almost a year and i've never had a problem with it.

I have been using it start from 1 month ago. It have wonderful feature considering with it's price. Sweet design and so easy using by one side hand. Earpiece included is a simple one but it will give you amazing sound. I just feel this phone is languid response. Limitation of songs content and video duration is another poor of this phone.

no u can't put a 4gb memory card in a motorola e2. the largest memory it holds is a 2gb card. if you put anything larger the phone will eventually crash. i work in a cell store. please don't damage ur phone.

this is the last model I bought this year after the bloody Alcatel and the not less bloddy LG MG250, and I must admit it's got really good features.. but they could have been improved as well. I read there that the VGA camera quality is not so good and that when you zoom picutures they get really small, which is something that shouldn't happen. I would add that the duration of the Videos is random.. you'll never know how much time a video capture will take, ranging from 44 secs to 1:30 mins.. it should have a set duration. Another thing I read is also true.. it's normal to find that when you download a game it doesn't work and the phone shows you "Application Error" I hope Motorola take these things into account for the future.. but I am sure this will be the first and the last time I buy a Motorola phone. The Itunes features are fine.. but.. how do you explain that you can only record 100 songs having a 512Mb capacity? that's no good at all! it's good though that you can use it as a pen-drive. The design is something else..! it doesn't look modern, but not old either.. it's just unique.. I don't like it much.. to be honest. It should have come out in Black as well. The joystick is precise and everything but.. don't attempt to use it for long cause perspiration prevents you from using it at ease. the quality of the sounds is great.. but could have been a bit better I think. By the way, it's no longer available here in Buenos Aires, which means I am one of the last "priviledge" purchasers of this phone. I would recommend buying it.. and I hope it'll last me for a really long time. The relation features-price is really worth it!

Hello people,I just bought a Rokr e1 and for me its a great phone, I had a K750 and no doubt about it as a great camera and radio but thats just about it,I was a little ceptic about Motorola but once you get used to it, no big problems.And if you do some modding the Rokr becomes "perfect", and people that say otherwise are just to demanding and never will find the perfect phone anyway.But its just my opinion,no regret's till now.

ROKR is greater than RAZR i think.. Rokr e1 and e2 is great! for me i rated rokr e1 9/10 and for razr v3i and v3x! i rated it as 8/10 but this phone rokr e1 even though it has no video calling or even its not 3g there are some features that suits for evryone like mp3 for those person who like music.. it has camera for people who need picture wherever they go.. but 1 point is bothering me that someone is always keep saying that rokr is not a good camera phone.. why they are keep saying that? My cousin has a motorola c650 that is more cheaper and lower pixels but when i look at to the pictures i was shock bcoz even though its so cheap its camera satisfy people's need.. im not telling a perfect camera im juz saying its a good camera.. you can still see your face.. and also some are saying that the phone mp3 capacity is only 100 songs or 50 songs??? dont you have your favorite songs?? if like more than that much better to buy mp3 players that phones.. but juz to remind you.. The illumination on the keypads should be daylight or light sensitive. If the area you are in is dark then the keypad will light up. Try to be in dimmer or darker area and try .

Great phone, bad camera, bad BT...to set the Mp3 as ringtone, u should move the file to internal memory. To collect 100 songs, you should convert Mp3 to AAC or M4A. Any question again??

in reply to whitey, it comes with a 256mb transflash and standard iTunes on the non-american models have 50 songs. American ones come with 100 songs, but there are programs that can change the limit but it voids your warantee. I know I have. BTW-This is a freaking awesome phone

10/10, a seriously kick ass phone. Criticise it till the cows come home, but, I use this phone on a daily basis, best phone had yet, still happy. Up for upgrade with my contract, but to be honest, haven't seen anything that I want, happy with this. Stereo sound, the sound is very clear - crystal. As are the headphones that come with phone. (Bass is class.) iTunes can be a bit slow at times, however, it never does this at the expense of music playing, always smooth. Battery life is good, I can play music more or less throughout the whole day from it, make calls, texts, etc. and still see it into tommorow. Never tried to see how long it'll go standby - I've seen it through like over a weekend in Airplane mode. Camera could be better, yes, but the flash is good - can be used as a flashlight too. Rest of the phone consists of typical Moto features.

I'm sorry to everyone but this cellphone is just amazing. Those who says it's a bad cellphone is because they don't know how to use. If you wanna have a multimedia jukebox, 3 in 1 this is the phone for you. An excellent *cellphone: amazing reception, amazing call sound quality, speed menus, nice web surf; *good camera: the camera quality is not as good as the k750i's camera, but for the price it does its job. *a kick ass mp3 player based on iPod, called iTunes. ONce I had a ebay china mp3 player and sold it because I got in love with the sound quality of rokr, much and much better than those china mp3s(and I was using it with an excellent pair of philips headphones). The stereo speakers sound is amazing, it scares me every morning because I use its alarm clock. It has 7 volume steps, and leaving the phone's volume on step 2 is far enough to wake me up. No need to think twice to buy it

this phone is great. its not slow at all...except when loading songs on itunes. other than that the phone is brilliant. feels great and easy to use. a bit tricky if you have only ever used nokias, but the menu system is far beyond nokias even tho its the same system moto have only ever used. not too sure if a larger memory card will work in it. it only holds about 50songs atm, but thats all im after. itunes is great on it, just like an ipod and far more advanced any other mobile mp3 program! 9/10 for me!

Finally Motorola got rid of i-tunes with the new release of its E2 Version with yes built in bloody Radio, about time.. that got this Version right, but when is ever the right version in a Mob ? Anyway, I have had my up�s and downs with my E1 model. The good, it cost $189 AUS, Ok sound speaker set-up, good batt life, can hadle a couple of falls ( on tarmac / concrete) Only had it for 3 months and the Dam phone stopped charging, no more PC connection connectivity. Spoke with Motorola, they said you have to send it through the service centres, did so and two weeks latter, ( apparently this place gets 200 different repair for Mobiles a day ) not just Motorola, but that is an alarming figure. Giving that there is 10/15 service centres around Syd � Aust. They said their was a problem with the soldering connections, they fixed them, the ph now works well charges and connects fine to the PC, ( I don�t use the i-tunes software ) just USB cable and manually trans my MP3 files. They seem to have updated the Software Version, Menu > Settings > Phone Status > Other Info >S/W Version to R373_G_OE.30.42R I did call Motorola again, and said that I have noticed that there is a 45R version available, they said that the S/W Version and the Flex version of the phone is Network carrier dependent, something I didn�t know ( all I wanted was the newest firmware ) lucky I didn�t upgrade it, as its apparently not reversible with updating S/W Versions. Besides, that all, all is Woking fine now, and kind Motorola said that they would extend my 12 months warranty for an extra 3months, that was company policy in Australia. Hope this has helped some new / exiting users.

I've had this phone for about a week now. It's like heaven compared to my previous Siemens SL65. The audio quality is amazing. In fact it's as great as a SonyE W800i, which is by the way, twice the cost. It's only flaw so far is the tiny wee bit of slowness and the lack of a radio. I have a question.. I've had this phone for 5 days now, and I must say that EVERYTHING is amazing! Except... the flash. It stopped working three days after i got it. and i never really used it that much! It does not work when i pick to turn it on. I have contacted my telephone company and they have agreed to "swap" the phone for me. They agreed to send me a new one and then i just have to send the defective back. At no charge to me, so do not worry, if anything happens within i think 30 days of usage your phone company MUST send you a new one and you MUST send the defective one back ... but i mean, other than that, the phone is awesome! iTunes rocks, camera quality could be a little bit better, the sound is LOUD enough when you want it to be, it works excellent when around mountains, and areas where there are not a lot of radio antennas for the cellphones. Sound quality is amazing, bluetooth is SUPER FAST.... 400kb song will tranfer in a bout 30 seconds to another phone with bluetooth. When transfering from a computer to the phone via bluetooth the transfer rate is around 100kb/s. AMAZING!... and did i say that it is an amazing phone :P ... have a good one // im out. PEACE to all

I had this phone few months ago and this phone is good for nothing but complains.I think this phone and the E398 has similar functions except it has i-tunes.However the i-tunes is more or less useless.It is more or less useless because the song from the i-tunes can't be sent through Bluetooth.The Bluetooth is very slow,the menu looks ugly,it has unattractive colour.The flash is not considered as a camera flash.Its more of a light than a flash.The speaker is not loud enough but it has execellent bass.There's been a lot of weird stuff happening since i got this phone.If you are planning to buy this phone.I HIGHLY recommand you not to buy this phone.NOKIA is a better choice.

Was this phone actually tested before it hit the market?! The phone is good but is hindered by simple and somewhat stupid things i.e. not being able to assign an actual song as a ring tone from the external memory. It�s possible from the phones memory but the bit rate and length of song has to be small due to internal memory. The speakers on the phone, too much bass that makes a table vibrate, and the phone can't seem to keep still when playing music on the phones speakers, plus you can only store a 100 songs even if you increase the phones memory!?

I have had the ROKR since December last year, and I LOVE IT. I sell mobiles and this is by far the best phone I have come across in a long long time. The music quality through the headphones is equal to that of an ipod ( I have the shuffle). The headphones are a little uncomfortable and I would love to know if there are other designs available, but I even use the phones speakers in my car and it is great. WELL DONE MOTOROLA. Your best so far.

The rokr is a realy good because it can be modified, u can change the firmware as u like. There are firmwares in wich it will make the phone even louder and also have diffrent light actions, u can use the camera light to sync., also you can make it into quad band. Theres firmwares taht can let you have options on your video effects also with other fimrwares u can expand the memory on the phone. The rokr gives you allot of options. It has more than people would have expected.

This phone is quite good i should say except that its reaction is slow... but it is worth for the price it is selling. This phone uses iTunes and i think its not vry good except that the fact that it has a nice user interface. This phones works as a removable disk when connected by a usb cable... but u can access the music in the iTunes by using iTunes in ur computer. The steps for transfering songs is the same as an Ipod... just drag the song from the gallery to ur memory card name... Have fun with E1!

Just want to share something to all Moto users out there. Moto fones are not at all that bad. It just needs caring just like what you would give to every other devices you own. Although I have just been using the Moto brand for the last 4 months, I have seen some precautions all Moto users should exercise: 1. Don't use MMS/SMS when your batt is extremely low or running into empty. When you're in the middle of sending a message and your phone goes out, most likely your MMS/SMS system would crash. It would result to non-functioning MMS/SMS or worse not seeing your Messages icon on your menu. 2. Never attempt to save entries or edit existing entries in your phonebook if you're running low or near empty on batt. This would result in your phonebook entries getting disarranged and entries being repeated twice or even more. 3. When changing or removing sim cards, turn off the unit by pressing the power switch and not by directly lifting the battery out of its place. Why? Take a home PC for example. When you shut it down, you don't just pull out the power plug out of the socket, right? Same with a mobile phone, let it shut down properly so you would not damage your phone's system. 4. When your phone goes out due to empty battery, never attemp to re-power it immediately. Wait for at least 5 seconds because eventhough the battery looks worn and totally out of power, a little power is left and the phone use this little "reserve" power to shut down the phone properly. Also this power provides life to your time & date settings so you never have to adjust your date & time everytime you run into an empty battery. 5. When your phone goes out the second or third time after re-powering it from an empty batt, it is best to charge it already. And while in the charging mode, avoid using your phone's "heavy-consuming" features for the first 30 minutes. When you run into similar problems, need not worry much. Your Moto dealer can always update or reinstall your software for you, mostly free of charge if your phone's still under warranty. It is best also to regularly check your dealer for newer softwares that are released which is compatible with your unit. Newer softwares generally contain lesser or totally eliminated all the bugs that came with an earlier software. But why resort to software reinstallation even if it is free. Protect your phone now with the simple rules that I mentioned based on my experience with Moto. Besides, it takes time to go to your dealer and have the phone checked. By then, you could be doing better things, right. Hope I am of some help to all fellow Moto users. Peace! MOTO Rocks!

I got this phone last Feb.2006 and now I CAN"T use my TEXT MSG. I don't know what's wrong with it..Everytime I try texting the whole screen freezes..and it rebooth itself [sometimes I have to take out the battery]. I asked my the cell company what was wrong with it, they said "DON"T KNOW" I can't get a refund coz my warranty ended. I used the MASTER RESET..still didn't work! I don't expect this phone to be a digital camera and I am happy to have take VGA (640*480)pictures. However, it just could not able to show pictures larger than 640*480. It should least able to preview a 1.23mp (1280*960)or 1.3mp (1280*1024) picture. So sad. Also, try to avoid sending sms when your E1 has a flat battery. As my friend's E1 got crashed when he was sending (in the process of sending) a sms while the battery is flat. Right now, he is only able to use his phone without sms ability. Otherwise, his haywired phone will restart automatically...

it's a great phone...i've had it for 2 weeks...it has the best sound compare to the SE w800i....i've compared it.....the camera is ok on the bright environment....night mode or flash wont help on dark or night....over all it is the best phone i've had....but it takes about 4 hours to recharge it... and no sms report....the i tunes works well...i can change my ringtones by cropping my mp3 files using the software and data cable

As long as my experience using C350,C550,C650,C380,C261 there is NO WAY to turn off the GPRS manually on Motorola(s),so it depends on the network availability.

Hello, I just bought this phone, and I was happy until I ran into a problem with the I-tunes feature. I download songs to the phone, but when I try to use the Itunes nothing happens. I had recently brought this phone to a advanture camp at a remote campsite located at the border of my country. Throughout the 3days-2nights camp, I'm not only just happy about the results of the battery life, but it's 16mm 22khz 3d stereo speaker (which get me into deep trouble). In the 60 hours advanture, my E1 went through: 1. More than 3.5 hr of mp3 with headphone attached (Bleed more power with headphone) 2. An hr of bluetooth on or data transfer 3. Half hr of Camera function 4. Weak signals all the time 5. Constantly changing gsm networks 6. Still left one bar when i reached home. 7. Is it a weak battery? I Don't agree. Plus how its dual speaker get me into ... Usage of hp is a no in the camp. However when I was listening to my E1 after lights out with earphones, my friend pull out the earphone and immediately the 3D stereo kicks into action. Next, my music surrounded the whole campsite and attacted teachers attention. Althought my phone was not taken away, I have to spend hours listening to lectures from him. Final words? Respect your Dual 16mm 22khz 3D surround speakers before it bites, Hard!

if u think that waiting for ROKR E2 is living in the future, and u SIMPLY CANT WAIT ANYMORE, then get this one. the advantage of E1 over E2 is: dual loudspeaker with vibration, itunes(subjective as some prefer not to hav itunes),and lower price compared to E2.

hello, this phone is good, not great. There has to be a reason why it is not popular. anyone can read the reviews to see why. maybe to some E1 is the best, but it is really not the best to many pple. for those who intend to buy E1 soon, it is recommended to wait for E2 unless u do not like its looks and the absence of itunes and dual vibration loudspeakers, and u think that E1 is gd enough, then go ahead and buy it.

hi regarding putting MP3 song for ringtone i can advice to move downloaded song from trans flash to mobile memory. then u can put it for ringtone. as from trans flash any sound cannot be used as ringtone.

who cares if the camera is rubbish, you buy this for listening to music and calling people, not for taking photos. also, its easy to change settings once you get used to the phone. i have filled up my 100 songs on itunes, and i still have over 200 megabytes left on the 512 mb transflash card, so i have filled the rest up with music by dragging and dropping it to the "sounds" folder of the memory card using my computer. you can also play mp4 videos bye converting the video to mp4 with a small resoulution. i payed 150 pounds for it at argoswith t-mobile it was on offer) and i got a 512 memory card, headphones and everything else with it. overall it is a good alround phone , excellent for music, but quite slow with everything. it keeps playing music for a few seconds after i exit itunes. for any questions, mail me at [email protected]

this is the best phone i've every had. THe size is small and the phone is strong. Many people prefer the new SLVR, but i dont like it because it is too thin that people could drop it so easily. The ROKR has the perfect shape and color. The white color is rare and all of the buttons are in the right places. When i first got the ROKR, i was impress with all of its features, and theres alot of little things that makes the phone fun and advanced. The best thing about this phone is the 3d speakers, the sound is very clear and loud. I also love all of the features like the side lights, ringtones that comes with it and the wallpapers. Many people complain because it cant hold over 100 songs. This is not an ipod you guys, its a phone, 10 songs would be enough for me. lol. Too many people give it negative because it cant perform or hold as much as an ipod. The only negatives i have about it is the camera and video recorder. Its like many other phone cameras, its not horrible but i just want a really good quality camera. I know its just a phone, not a digital camera, but its possible to add atleast a 1 megapixel camera like some nokia and sony ericcsons. Why not give it to the ROKR since it is loaded with so many features. But the flash on the camera really helps when your taking close pictures in poor lighted areas. Theres many features on this phone that i love and the best ones is that it holds a memory card so you could upload music/usb cable. I could tranfer many things like songs and pictures to and from my computer. I dont even use itunes, as long as it plays mp3s, im good. Well im satisfied with this phone and i recommend it to everyone. I give it 9.9 out of 10.

The specs of the E1 differs from region to region. I had mine here in the Philippines and in can only accept 50 songs in its iTunes. E1 here comes bundled with 256MB TransFlash cards. As far as I know, E1 in the US can accept 100 songs in its iTunes. Even with 256MB card, Asian E1 can only have 50. If your E1 accepts 100 songs but you only have 256MB card, you must upgrade to 512MB if you want to take advantage of your 100 song capacity. The song capacity is relative to your TF card capacity. To save up on memory space, in your iTunes application on your coputer, go to preferences and select AAC in importing and converting your songs. 128kbps (bit rate) in AAC is already a high-quality setting compared to the high-quality setting of MP3 which 196kbps. In other words, 128kbps AAC sound the same with 196kbps MP3. The lower the bit rate the lower the bit size. Use AAC for iTunes files because, after all, its an iPod (Apple) phone and AAC is Apple's innovation. When your iTunes songs don't play continously, try adjusting your REPEAT and SHUFFLE settings. And yes, after a call iTunes won't play back automatically but it shouldn't matter much because all you need to do is toggle the joystick up to activate play. As for removing the keypad sound, go to Ring Styles>Loud Detail/Soft Detail/Vibe Then Ring Detail>Key Volume and you're set. As with the side lights, it really doesn't sync with iTunes but rather lights up only in-sync with background noise, call receiving, MMS/EMS/SMS receiving, charging, and Bluetooth activity. If you noticed the keypad, no light comes up if you're in a bright spot. Try moving to a darker area and your keypad light comes on. Its like there is a photo-sensor built inside and beneath the keys. Its true that picture/video quality is not so good, but it is rather decent. You see, this is primarily a phone. If you want good pictures/videos, get yourself a digital camera. As with your computer not recognizing your phone as a USB device, go to Settings>Connectivity>USB Settings. The default connection should be Data/Fax Connection if you want to use your phone as data storage device. And the default connection should be Memory Card if you want to use your phone for iTunes storage. See, our E1 comes with built-in Mobile Phone Tools and hence there's no need to buy separate Mobile Phone Tools software. As I had observed, the finish of the silver accent on the phone's exterior really fades. And the 2 exposed screws at the back of my unit shows rusting. Here in the Philippines, cellphone shops can install iTunes on your E398 for 500 pesos. That's around 10 US dollars. Question, does anyone from the Philippines know where to buy 2.5mm to 3.5mm headset adaptor for E1 except eBay? eBay's buyIT price seems high. I really wanted to use my Sennheisser earphones on my phone. Last one, how can I view pictures/videos on full screen in my E1? The speaker phone quality sucks!!! Not to mention the handphone speaker too. Its very feeble and voice conversations cannot be heard if there is a lot of noisy traffic. Motorolla software's arent quite intutive as Nokia or Sony Ericsson. But one good thing about this phone is the Itunes....the quality of earphones is just fantastic. I got this phone on a sale for half the price...if I had to pay full price...i rather prefer Nokia or Sony Ericsson any day.

Shaun, i saw your posts in the gsmarena.com about rokr e1. i was wondering if it was really true that i can store my msgs in my sd memory card? if so, how can i do it? is it just thru the computer, usb cable etc, or i can just simply press something in the phone and it will be copied to the memory card? another thing, can't i use a 1gb memory card so i can put more songs in the iTunes section of my phone? i've read several reviews and it only says "expandable up to 512mb".. if its the case then i find this phone "pretty and nice but short of something.." last question, why can't the mp3s in the sounds section play continuously after each song is done? is it really like that or is my phone defective? and to add some comments regarding this phone.. i think motorola has advertised it big time but it isn't really half of what they have plugged the phone to be. it is tru that it's kind of slowing down when you are typing in a message when the message you are typing is reaching the limit of it. second, picture quality isn't that great. i wish they had just put in a meagpixel cam.. after all they already included an iTunes feature.plus the silver "metallic-look" and furnishings of the phone isn't really silver or metallic!! it is just a paint of some sort that easily worns out because of some air or frequent wipings that i do when i clean it.. it's disgusting that it is like that.. i am really careful and takes good care of my gadgets especially with my phone, but now it looks awful.. the silver edges are slowly losing its color..argh!

to shawn and rachael, the rythmn lights are not supposed to flash when u play its music, the are sound sensitive, turn them on and put near your stereos speakers. it is designed for really loud music in clubs.

This unit has a lot of great features but when i got mine the usb is not working. The computer cannot recognize the phone's usb. So i returned my unit to the store where i bought the phone. As of the moment i am still waiting (for 2 weeks already)for the replacement to arrive.

hey, the clip for my memory card snapped off to first time putting it in i snapped it straight off clean. All i use is sticky tape and a piece of paper sticky tape it down in right place then jam a piece of paper there the battery will put weight on thed card and keep it down has been working fine for me :)

hi Rebekah As far as i know u cannot download "Ringtones" from itunes but as the rokr e1 and e398 can use mp3's as there ringtones just use ur own mp3. but use a program such as goldwave to edit the song to only 30 secs so it saves space on the phone and won't ring through the whole song and only just the main part if u like. hope that helps. email me on [email protected] if u have any further questions thanks.

sometimes it doesn't connect, but what you should try to do is restart your computer then plug in your cabel to the computer then the phone. Let the computer open iTunes and give it a few mins. If it is still having problems, check your port and try plugging it into another one. If that doesn't work, call moto.

Actually, I think this phone is great already, for its price. It has most things to come along with, and the camera is not that bad. At least it's still better than some Nokia phones (but new Nokia phones are really catching up). But anyway, this phone is a bargain and I really really recommend it. I've been holding it for like, 2 months now, and it's been no problem at all and really great. Transmission of songs and videos fast and clear loud MP3 ringtones! Now my sis wants to get it too... :)

When i first heard about this phone...i was impressed. On the positive side...small but has a nice big bright screen. The speakers are very loud. The lights that flash through the side speakers are a nice touch to the phone. Overall the design is very good. On the negative however, the USB cable for this phone...is very sensitive and the computer doesnt always recognize when its connected. Uploading music is ridiculously slow compared to an mp3 player. I'm not sure how many others have had this problem but charging the phone up takes unusually long. When playing music and trying to use your phone everything else is relatively slow and the music volume bar needs to be better controlled. Press up on the volume once it gets too loud and press down once its just too low. Other then that the phone works perfectly fine.

This is my first phone and it rocks. I bought this in australia prepaid at the shops for $179 Aud which is close to $130 US. This is a good price considering the sony erricson walkman phones are in excess of $400. But then again you get what you pay for as it does not have a 2mp camera. I have had the rokr now for bout 3 weeks, the only downfall was the 100 song limit, you can get round this by going to my computer, click phone then select ringtones, then drag and drop your music into this folder that way you can beat the 100 song limit and you can set them as ringtones by changing storage device in sounds under multimedia on the phone and then copying to phone memory but only 1 at a time because of the low memory on the phone, this also work for pictures if you select pictures instead of ringtones from the folder. Well!!! this is a good phone, the sound the memoroy etc etc. BUT has a one BIG problem. i dont know where do all my SMS go when I change my SIM. in order to put songs as a ringtone you have to learn more about your phone you have to explore it, its simple once you learn...remember that your phone has a trans card and thats jus like having a jumpdrive(flash drive, or thumb drive) you can put put whatever you like on it, i for example have put photshop documents on it just to see if i can use it as a jump drive and trasfer the info to one computer to another and low and behold it worked...in all i love this phone and sure more like it will come out but i for one like this one because it original and its the first, another thing learn more about your phone youll be pretty surprised to see what extent it goes to

Dear all aswering the question: 1. MP3 File as the ringtone ROKRe E1 can NOT access MP3 file stored in I-Tune application. files encripted somehow with different names. To set a mp3 file as a ring tone. Copy a mp3 file to T-flash with Card reader(mmc adapter included, or use USB cable, WinXp detects automatically. copy to \\mobile\ringtone. disconnect phone from pc or put back t-flash into phone. Switch on phone, go to multimedia-sounds.. you must find the files you've sent. press menu button (in middle up of keypad): copy: 2 option comes up : phone & bluetooth, select phone. this file copied to phone memory back to list of files-press menu button-Switch storage device- to option comes up : TRANS & Phone, select phone You'll find MP3 file you copied, press menu button-Apply as a ring tone-Chone line-1 or line-2.. then finish! P.S : ROKRE E1 only has 5 MB internal memory, so you can only put 1 file MP3, unless you split file as short as possible just enough as a ring tone JUST WONDER IF THE ARCHITEC OF THIS TYPE EVER THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE THEY PRODUCE 2. Put MP3 file to Phone for I-Tune application. Install I-Tune program on CD (included), I-Tune program will show up. just bought ROKR. is it me but i cannot get itunes to recognise the phone. the usb settings are set to memory card as a default but it just does nothing. is this a problem anyone else has had? Nice phone but i'll wait for the E2, my contracts not up for a few months. The transflash adapter allows you to plug the trandflash card into a memory card reader. I think that the adapter is the same shape as an SD card, could be wrong though.

THIS IS THE WORST PHONE OF 2005. Well, on the marketing side atleast. It is over-hyped and touted as THE cellphone version of IPOD. Well, the consumers and the critics have spoken. They hated this ROKR E1. It is an obsoletely spec'd music phone. What in the hell was Motorola thinking when they released this piece of S@#t?! SE's K750i and W800i was announced and released prior to this E1 and they have what? 2mpx cam with auto focus, 34mb internal memory and unlimited MP3 capacity. ROKR's arsenal: a lousy VGA cam, a very low internal memory and the biggest shocker of all.. only max of 100 MP3 song can be put in it via i-Tunes website. In asia, 50 is the max. 50??? can you imagine that? Licensing my a@@, Hyping the phone as an itunes/ipod phone and then crippling it with limited MP3 download capability is bullS***. Granted it is priced lower than K750i or W800, but in its price range is the W550i and N6230i, both with 1.3mpx cam and all you can fill MP3 memory.

Check if you have got a very big mp3 as ringtone. Mp3 put as ring tones must be less than 200kb and less than 30 seconds in length. Otherwise, the phone takes long time to load the ring tone.

well folks i have to say that at the start i was guilty of badmouthing this phone, primarily because it was a re release of an old phone. I recently purchased a v3 after returning the first one because of a buzzing keypad i had gotten the loan of a rokr. To my great surprise this phone has gone beyond all expectations. The in call sound quality of the phone is so clear compared to the v3. I havent uploaded any music to it yet but do intend to. Overall 10/10 as a phone

Motorola has a number for people having rokr problems its inside the manual. At first i coulnd'nt link up with I-tunes. Within 30 seconds of my call the rep walked me through my problem. Anyone who dogs this phone. Give the rokr a break its the first phone with I-tunes.The first cars invented didnt have Ac power stearing and heated seats. But if i was around back then i would of bought one of them 2. So dont give the rokr such a hard time. Its a prototype of whats to come.

Hey people,slow down a bit and lets begin with this fone step by step,for the ui,its by far the most convenient from other fones considering motorola is by far THE ONLY MOBILE IN THE WORLD IN WHICH YOU CAN LOCK CRTAIN ITEMS IN THE MENU WHILE OTHERS ARE OPEN,and this is very convenient for persons privacy. the screen is so wonderful,its a steps in advance of the se 750,and i experiment personaly the both mobiles. for the contacts menu,its so rich and user friendly,you have 1000 different entries,and i think this is convenient to buisness men. sms and mms and email client is so far away ahead of all fones,i use this every day,and never had any problems with it. the short cuts are so variable,this gives you many choices to arrange it as you like with optimum time saving. for the yunes and mp3,i think who used this fone knows what i have in mind,its surround speakers and speaker are LOUD enough to hear the music and ROCK too,the voice speaker is grade A,even in traffic jam,and i also experienced this personally. for the camera and video,keep in mind when you make a comparison that you are talking of cellular fone which adjust every picture you take in the final format to use in mms and its 640*480,which is about 40 mb only,so what is the need for the 2 or 4 or 6 megapixel camera for the fone? going to the fone mmc,its 256,and i think no need to comment on this too. finally for the battery life,i used this fone for 2 days in a massive way,and the battery still alive. final conclusion is having the bluetooth for sending and receiving files from and out of this fone concerning the previous points i mentioned,makes this fone no.1 either for its wonderful FEATURE AND ITS RICH MENUE OR FOR ITS CLASSY SHAPE AND MONEY FOR VALUE.

Just got the phone, the manual seems incomplete, it is slow, and it sucks to have the itunes folder not usable for ringtones, as for the song limit it doesn't bother me that much. I wanted a cellphone that could fill the need for music if I didn't want to bring my minidisc one day. Decent phone for the price I paid, most likely will want to upgrade to the ROKR E2 in 1 1/2 - 2 years time.

I read alot of reviews about the rokr before i bought it. Yes its slow and yes the 100 song limit could be better. There are a lot of people saying what the i-pod does better. Can you listen to yout I-pod with out headphones. NO! i dont think so. When i listen to music on it i dont use ny other features. So its slowness dosent bother me. The speakers sound better then my little portable I- pod speakers. I wated to wait for the rokr 2. But I have A.D.D so waiting is tuff for me. Down the road the rokr will be outshined. But for now If you want to carry 100 songs + "you can take a few songs and make them 1 MP#". I used ACIDPRO 4 To make a few continious mixes of about 10 songs each. But i saved them as one giant Mp3. I veiw it as a demo version of whats to come. with the slivr, V3i and the roker 2.

Go to Ring Styles detail to change. however only tones in phone memory could be used,so if u wish to use mp3 as ringtone you could cut the part of the mp3 u want as ringtone to reduce its file size...

Nice essay u have. one of the loopholes is why the USB is only 1.x. since for itunes u cannot transfer songs directly to the memory card using a full speed usb card reader, if one wishes to use itunes,transfer of music can only be via the usb data cable which is not fast enough. if itunes could accept direct copying to the memory card then maybe the usb speed would not really be an issue, but this is not the case.

Taking into accounts its features as a cell-phone, connection and calls' voice quality is excellent and this is what that truly differentiates Motorola from all its competitors in the global market. Especially it is far ahead from all other manufacturers' products if you talk about the voice clarity and its speaker. Phone book is excellent in terms of search options but not up to the level of NOKIA � the big gun and our stylish Sony Ericsson � a true fantasy and dream-weaver. It really annoys if one want to sort out the contacts only from SIM or those copied or saved on the Phone book. Phone offers very nice and distinctive iTAP solution for SMS. Bluetooth so far, is pathetic for its lowest speed especially when receiving data from the other compatible device. iTunes application aptly fulfills the needs of those who love music. Comparing the aforesaid application with W800i' walkman offering, Motorola tenders rather a good quality sound especially when you want to use the phone' speakerphones. Surround sound is really catchy and one notices this difference between the two devices with naked eyes. But please avoid expecting anything more from this ROKR and not the ROCK as you need to re-charge it daily especially if you hear the music for just less than 1 hour, you talk for more than 55 minutes and you just play with its other menu items and only touch Bluetooth to check whether it's detecting or being detected which as a whole takes 20 minutes. Even don't expect VGA camera's worse results which you might have got from Motorola RAZR, here it is worst than all the cams and the captured pictures are even not likely to be displayed on the phone's own high-rated display or to be used as wallpapers. USB does not help you to re-charge the phone rather its continuous use for the purpose to synchronize with the PC consumes the battery so fastly and sometime your data may be in danger to be lost. However, get excited if you merely are in search of some very first-rate mobile phone with top-class voice and SMS capabilities along-with charismatic design and top-class music player, ROKR is really geared up to serve your purpose and this naive doesn't ask for any higher price rather it is easily approachable for almost more than 60% mobile users. Isn't it enough to cover its all loopholes alone!!!

A nightmare in compare to samsung d500? With samsung you have to push 30 times on a button to send a textmessage to contact in the contactlist. Motorola is better build, much more stable and easier 2 use. I had the samsung d500 and i found it a terrible phone, ok it slides open but thats far everything.

I forgot to add: since I bought the phone in Mauritius, I got the Asia-Pacific version with a 256 MB TransFlash card. I'm planning to buy a 512 MB card as soon as I have enough funds. For now, I will do with what I have and load full albums as one single mp3 file reduced in quality (probably 96 kbps). I'll see how many albums I can load at one go. For now, I'm enjoying the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"... "I'm a man of constant sorrow........." No more !!!

I received my ROKR today and the first impression it gave me is : AWESOME !!! Connecting to iTunes on my brother's PC was seamless and although file transfer was quite slow, everything went fine. The only trouble so far with the handset has been the clumsy joystick... They're definitely not made for fat fingers. Sound quality is excellent and the flashing lights will surely make the joy of teenage users or people with a strong psychedelic mindset... As for the rest, the phone is a pure-bred Motorola with lots of exciting features and the VGA camera, though not quite the state-of-the-art type, is very handy to get pictures of your loved ones, friends, family or colleagues for use as celler photo ID. You can get round the phone's 5MB limit if you're feeling like having many mp3 ringtones : simply trim down the mp3s you want to use as tones by cutting length and bitrate quality... For the rest, just sit back and relax, the ROKR can do anything... or almost.

This is who wants to set mp3 as rintones for rokr.first connect the phone with com using data cable,before do this put ur memory card to the phone.in my computer there is icon like hdd drive.go to trans flash storage by computer.there are two folders.one named itunes other one phone.go to phone folder and go to ringtones folder, copy ur mp3 files there.then disconnect ur phone from com. go to mutimedia then songs in ur phone.then select ur storage device as trans flash from options.now u can c ur mp3s.if u want to set mp3s as rintones u must copy one mp3 to ur phone memory.(phone memory is 6mb only,there for u can only add one mp3 at a time)then select phone memory again.now u can c in mp3 files optins menu there is 'apply as'.set ur mp3.thanx.very good phone.but mine has a problem,so i need help too.i cant set my main menu as icons.my menu all ways shows as list mode.if select icon mode from settings but the menu is still list view.please help

I recieved my Motorola ROKR E1 in the post yesterday. I am going to write the things i like and the things i dont about the handset and then give it an overall rating after i have finished. I hope that the review will benefit people interested in the ROKR. Good points The phone looks great. I really like the white and silver finish of the mobile. It really is like no other on the market. The keypad backlight is also very bright and adds to the quality feel that the phone posesses. I-Tunes! I think that this is a great addition to the phone. I have to laugh though when people list bad points such as "only 100 songs can fit onto the phone". Oh what a shame. A PHONE that only plays 100 songs. I think some reviewers expect a little bit too much. Anyway as far as the sound quality and ease of use - I-Tunes is a really good function that this phone has. The phone comes with EVERYTHING when bought brand new. I mean data cable, 512 MB memory card (Trans-flash) etc etc. I know that Motorola are the only company who issue data cables with their phones on a regular basis which i think should come as standard with others. The price! I got my ROKR for �79.99 off O2 and it was SIM free so i'm using my Orange SIM in it. I think that its a great price for what you get. One thing i like a lot about my Moto, is the fact that you can change the themes and the skins on the phone which allows for an awful lot of customisation. It can change the way the phone looks instantly so it always feels fresh. Texting is easy and user friendly with this model. It keeps up quite well and the input system remembers your favourite words which i find quite handy. Rythm lights. These are cool. They light up whenever you recieve a text or incoming call wihch is another unique touch by Motorola. The phone boasts really good features such as Bluetooth (which works perfectly). I have tested with a SE K700i and a Samsung D600 and transfers have gone smoothly with no problems. Bad Points Camera. Ok - I HATE Motorola cameras. They are absolutely rubbish no matter what model it is. They really are terrible. The biggest pain is the band that fills up half the screen when your in viewfinder mode. Alls it does is say how much memory you have. The worst thing is its still there when you view the picutres so they are only ever viewable at half the screens size which i think is really bad. If you want a good camera look eslewhere. It suffices though for silly snaps on the go however but if you want a decent one go to Sharp. The joystick. I find this ok most of the time but if your hands become clammy or your finger is wet you are gonna have difficulty using the joystick. Becuase its metal and round like a ball almost your finger has to be bone dry in order to be able to navigate easily with it. My final bad point is the fact you cant upload your pictures or transfer images from your comp to the phone. If you can i dont know how becuase the only CD you recieve is for I-Tunes and not the usual Motorola phone tools. If anyone knows how to transfer and if ive just missed somethin silly then let me know. Thanks. Well thats it. All in all i am pleased i picked this handset as my next phone. The good points far outweigh the bad but the camera does let it down an awful lot. In conclusion i rate this phone.... 80% Hope this helps some people when they are trying to decide if this is the phone for them.

Well, I read tottaly wrong ppinion about this phone about the battery life this phone considered better than any other mp3 phone. My friend has w800i and he say his battery only can power up his phone for 1 day with maximum use, comparing to my ROKR I can use it up to 3 days without any charging and use the loudspeaker. and the speaker is light years better than w800i. about why the memory card only can support 512 mb, it's because the biggest capacity of T-Flash avaiable at market is 512 Mb. Meaning: You will never find even you search to North Pole 1GB T-flash. and just for fun: if you want to carry more than song limit than your itunes, you can buy another memory card so you can fill both. I wish the memory card was hot swap, but unfortunately you have to open the back side in order to change your memory card.

On first glance this phone is brilliant, however when you start using it, it's a whole different story, iTunes is slow and horrible to use (PC End) and iTunes on the mobile.. It's just, well, incredibly slow. The message memory is appauling, you can only store 100 messages!? What's that all about!? You have a big memory card that you can't totally fill up because of the 100 song limit in iTunes... The camera is crap, won't focus on anything, very very bad quality. Bluetooth doesn't have a permanent "Discover" option (!) I know it's a cheap phone but I expected better than this. The only thing it's worth credit for is the speakers on it, which are amazing, however this does not compensate for everything wrong with it. Sadly I am now stuck with it for a fair while due to my SE K750i breaking :(

I saw got a lot of ignorant people around here... *sorry but its true* I am working as business development, therefore i done lot market survey and marketing strategy. why 512 mb only? ROKR E1 comes up with itunes. Therefore it is impossible to put lot spaces like GB into it. It will ruins Ipod selling market coz people will go to this for instead. DO NOT COMPARE with W800 since u need to check the price itself.. u want a good stuff then u should pay more. For instead Low till Mid end user are huge markets. They cant afford to buy expensive stuff like W800. Thats also the reason they not puttin the 2 MP cams into it since it will cost double. But u get 262k display colors and it could record a video (differences between E398). If u ever had E398 sure u all know the stereo quality MP3 player rite? in this ROKR E1 they upgrade into better stereo quality speaker. Those who never use E398 will never know about it. For me myself, the stereo system in motorolla are better than SE *sorry SE supporter but its true* thats y Apple Ipod take Motorolla as a partner for Itunes. can somebody explain why the asian version of this fone is severly crippled? i mean the stupid itunes is limited to 50 songs and the transflash is only 256mb. wtf is up with that? it's a good phone but with that kind of crap i'm not surprised if the majority of people here buy 750i instead of this crippled phone.

For the J2ME development...I guess the bluetooth funcionality and camara access thru applications will not be available.. i havnt got my hands on this exact fone yet though i am using an upgraded firmware on my e398 thats is running a similar flash and flex as the E1 ROKR, and it too doesnt have access to these services. This maybe that the e398 hardware cant handle this, but as far as i know the ROKR hardware is very similar to e398. So to answer your question, no, i dont think ROKR has access to bluetooth or camera thru J2ME apps.

HI All, COMPARING ROKR E1 AND E398 I am an amateur developer of j2me application.Is ROKR good enough for custom made j2me bluetooth and camera application development? I have been using E398 for past 6 months and I have encountered with ROKR E1.Apart from i-Tunes, Video recording, AAC format; I don't find any significant changes in firmware.Even the hardware remains the same. Esssentially this phone is similar to popular E398 in term of looks. Does the MIDP 2 specifications on this handset pave way for bluetooth and camera custom made applications by the developers?[ E398 doesn't support custom made bluetooth and camera applications. It flashes an application error. All custom made bluetooth and camera applications do work well in Nokia 6600 [Symbian OS HAS NO RELATION HERE we are talking of java/j2me here]. No mention of it in specifications. REGARDS

to answer chrissy's question. You can get songs from limewire but you have to transfer it to itunes which you would need to install to your computer first.

you cant compare this phone to k750...their price is far apart, its like you comparing DVD with CD video quality... tho i don have it but i think at this price range, it got quite a good overrall performance, like expansion slot, mp3, bluetooth ---> yeaaa.. you are rite dude!!! K750 is the DVD whereas the ROKR is the CD quality... I found that K750's mp3 is better than Ipod nano.. i bet this fone is not even better than Ipod nano.. (don't blame me!! blame Ipod!! they do so because they do not want their market to be taken over by motorola!!)

Brilliant phone, all the features you'd expect of a modern phone. Haven't had any major problems with it, the surround sound speakers are amazing, and the bass is really good too. iTunes can be a bit slow, and the battery tends to run low quite quickly if loudspeaker is used for music. Apart from that, great.

wen i read reviews on this site it says its not so good. people its only the first iTunes fone. they will be bringin out new brands of iTunes fones in the future. this is a really gd fone but i have to say the VGA camera is a dissapointment the w800i has a better camera. but thats the thing: sony ericsson are bringin out the W900i with 3G so dnt get the W800 get the motorola E1 ROKR because the w800i is already old and it will take ages for the W900i to cum out so im gonna get this fone and get the W900i on XMAS 2006 good luck on choosin i hope this helped

I was really excited about getting this phone but then found out only once I actually got it that I can't even run the software for it on my computer because I run on Win 98 and it requires 2000 or XP. This sucks because I can't put any music on my phone AT ALL!!! grrrr!

I have had the ROKR for four weeks now. I couldn't figure out how to send files via Bluetooth but you can and I'll tell you how. First turn Bluetooth on. Connect with the other person's phone. This probably can be done by the other person sending you a picture or file. Once connected. Go to the picture or video on your ROKR and click the menu button which is the 4 lines button. Then scroll down to COPY and select that. Then you'll have the option of either the phone/memory card or bluetooth. It will show the phone if the file your copying is in the memory card and vis virsa. So anyways click on bluetooth which will then show a list of devices which your connected to and if not connected click on [Look for Devices} which will connect you. The phone will seek who ever your trying to send a file to and then it will send it. It's complicated and I thought that this phone couldn't do it but it can!

Review i got the ROKR E1 on upgrade from o2 after using the nokia 7610 for my 1st year which was quite a nice phone, i orignally wanted the W800i but the upgrade advisor convinced me to take the E1 as i could get a better tariff with it - (i am still inside my 14 day piece of mind actually) i've been using the handset for about 1 week and so far im still a bit unsire weather to keep the phone, the iTunes feature is great and the stereo speakers perform really well and is saome of the best mp3 playback i have heard, i would say it easily competes with the W800i - but here is where it turns wrong, this could have been such a great phone, if Motorola had just put more work in it, the camera is only VGA quality and pictures look really grainy compaired to crisp and clear like that of the W800i, also the bluetooth feature is really appaling, you can't even send files via bluetooth - a basic expectation from phones now adays, however the lighting up speakers are nice, but then you consider you cant even use mp3 ringtones - to say this is an upgrade i am not sure wether to class it as a degrade as i prefer the 7610 to this, but i like the mp3 capability - in short - wait for the W800 to come back in stock, it is way better than the ROKR E1 Suggested additional features a bluetooth feature that works like that of a nokia or SE, at least a 1MP camera, video recording capability Hints and tips for other owners When doing your first load up of music from iTunes dont think that you have to download all new music from iTunes music store, just use file then add folder to libary to import mp3's to iTunes etc, also have about 20 - 40 minutes spare as the transfer rate is abismal My opinion as viewable on - personally i find the E1 as a W800i want to be as i express here - go for an W800i if you want a really portibale multimedia centre than the E1......

im getting one of Rokr e1..! anything white seems cool to me anyw... i lurv rokr e1 cos i don hv to click the `back` button of the phone in order to see the nxt msg in `inbox`. and i can store loads loads of msges in my inbox! i lurv the bold text handwriting als... not like the text in n6230i or others!! i als lurv the camera altho its a VGA cam.. becos it doesn't drag along when i move! frm my previous n6230i, the image actlly drag and cos the image to look blur and giddy to me... rokr e1's VGA cam als has many modes to keep ur image alive at all times and u can even chnge the `capture` sound. its fun!

My Opinion on the Motorola E1 ROKR Cell Phone; Firstly, yes I own one. I bought it specifically because it was not a flip phone. I owned a V400, which is a good phone, but I'm very tired of flip phones and their bad connectors to the screen that cost a lot to repair. So a solid non-flip phone is ideal for me. As far as the looks I've read that a lot of people dislike the looks of the E1 ROKR. Personally, I like it very much...I much prefer the design of this device to some of those horrible 80's retro wannabe things that Nokia is pumping out lately. It is true however that the phone could have been made slimmer. It is basically the same size as the previous generation of phones. But the size is not all that bad. Also, the buttons were well laid out as I rarely have a problem finding the correct button...unline the Vxxx series of phones where I was constantly hitting the wrong button. Also the vibrate feedback feature onthe phone is nice...it is reasuring to knowing that your input was recognized by the OS. The Rythym lights features is interesting. It is a bit silly really, but a nice idea if it had been done correctly and implemented more seriously. As it is currently it's more a lame ravers feature and the novelty wears thin quickly. The itunes software is excelent. My only grip is that controlling iTunes on the phones is not obvious. Raising/Lowering volume, stop/play/pause and other features are not obvious. Also, it would have been better had those rythym light things gone to the beat of the music on iTunes. The battery time is really good though. Beats the V400 my miles. I rarely need to charge this phone which is a plus for once. The memory card used to store the songs is a bit strange. SD is fine...but why something called TransSD? And why do small? The card it like 1/8 of a postage stamp and it must be installed under the cover under the battery. Did noone at motorola realize that a slot in the side of the phone for quick change would have been nice...instead of having to open your phone and expose it's insides to swap out cards. So that is a bad design fault in my opinion. The phone is Tri-Band which is good but unfortunately it is not Quad-Band. The software is a fancy version of the V400. Themes are cool and a good idea but basically it's a V400. The Camera on the phone is dated and takes low res pictures and they are very low quality. Yes the phone has a video camera feature but that is more novelty than useful. The included transfer USB cable is a big bonus. And transfering files between the PC and the phone is a snap since the phones memory card shows up in Windows XP as a hard drive. So installing java games, pictures, ringtones, whatever, is really easy. This is an excellent design feature of the phone. Bluetooth functionality on the phone leaves something to be desired. It basically works about 50% of the time and it is so limited in functionality that it's basically useless. You really can't do much with the bluetooth. Motorola needs to start including full bluetooth functionality in it's phones. The 100 song limit is stupid. Whoever came up with that is an idiot. Even if you have tons of memory left the phone will not allow over 100 songs. Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will correct this idiotic limitation. The phone is pricy in my opinion. But in all fairness...I think all cell phones are a rip off for what you get....if you want a really useful phone pop for the cash and get an HP iPaq phone....now there is a useful phone...all the rest are toys. But if you want to own the first official iTunes phone this phone is not bad it's just not exactly what you probably expect. It would appear that the phone was rushed to market quickly before everything was thought out throughly. Thank you.

If you want to compare creative and ipod, just remember the earphones that you get supplied with an ipod... and remember who has years of experience creating sound cards. Also the number of voices is for polyphonic ringtones, which is software limitation, not hardware! The ROKR is great value for money, and with the impending walkman phone shortage will sell by the bucket load!

Hi! Im buying a new phone and I was wondering if some one could help me! I am trying to decide between 2 motorola phones. The first one is the ROKR E1. It looks like a good phone and I like the way it has itunes on it, but the camera is average at 640x480. If anyone has this phone could you email me with a good review hilighting its bad and good points and pictures (if you can). The other phone is the Motorola V1050. This is the black 3g phone. This phone also has mp3 and memory card but isnt really a phone specifically designed for music. It also has a 1.3 MP camera which is good. I knw the sound of the quality is SUPERB! 3D surround sound with dual 22Khz speaker. Cheap! Comparable wit others except the camera pixel but 0.3mega pixel can capture a good quality compare wit other 300K pixels. The phone is TOUGH! User friendly keypad. Security wit PIN code for all application like message, phonebook, etc. (NOKIA don hav it) Its TRUE... Bcoz im the E398 user. But wat I don like abt E398 is SLOW process (laggy)... I saw got a lot of ignorant people around here... *sorry but its true* I am working as business development, therefore i done lot market survey and marketing strategy. why 512 mb only? ROKR E1 comes up with itunes. Therefore it is impossible to put lot spaces like GB into it. It will ruins Ipod selling market coz people will go to this for instead. DO NOT COMPARE with W800 since u need to check the price itself.. u want a good stuff then u should pay more. For instead Low till Mid end user are huge markets. They cant afford to buy expensive stuff like W800. Thats also the reason they not puttin the 2 MP cams into it since it will cost double. But u get 262k display colors and it could record a video (differences between E398). If u ever had E398 sure u all know the stereo quality MP3 player rite? in this ROKR E1 they upgrade into better stereo quality speaker. Those who never use E398 will never know about it. For me myself, the stereo system in motorolla are better than SE *sorry SE supporter but its true* thats y Apple Ipod take Motorolla as a partner for Itunes. I have had my ROKR for 5 days now and I love it. For me 100 songs is plenty. If you're going to listen to more than 6.5 hours in one day than you should buy an mp3 player. The phone is easy to use. The headphones and speakers sound great. The only downfall is that I haven't found out how to use my songs for ring tones. The display is very vibrant. The battery also with normal use of music and phone will last at least a day. Overall for $230 at bestbuy which includes 512 mb memory card is totally worth it. I'm very happy.

so i played with this phone at a cingular kiosk... at this price its impressive for what the US has available, hands down. I've had the E398 for a few months now (bought it from a internet company in singapore). it seems like the itunes phone does the exact same as the E398 (well, with the exception of sync'g w/itunes ). i can drag and drop mp3 files directly onto the phone as it is... i dont need no stinkin itunes button when i have the e398 UNLOCKED for less than $190! why do we need to pay $250 with a 2 year contract extention to sync 100 songs or less with itunes? what a load of crap! i've never kept a cellular phone for more than 8 months! i'm so incredibly frustrated with how behind the US is with mobile technology.

E398 Has never been released in the States, so it makes sense they manufacture it as new when its been changed.. If you convert it to 22kbps it sounds terrible.. Keep it at 128.. The phone's reception is excellent and the speakers sound great! Overall good phone..

Just got the phone. excellent music playin capabilities. Remarkable when playing the music as loud speaker. Stereo quality!! However, as the phone uses i-tunes, you cannot bluetooth music to and from it. Low screen resolution doesn't let you display anything above 450 pixels. Camera is also not that good either. But the phones a lot better than the Samsung D500!!

to fonefanatik it wasn't motorola the imposed the 100 son limit it was apple as to stop people going 4 this over am ipod and i work 4 o2 and we had a demo of the fone it works great and the fact that it has a 2.5mm jack makes it better that the w800 cause u need the fast port interface to use standard head phones not a 2.5mm jack adapter and yes i have had a play with the w800 as sony were in a few days b4 showing it and i can't w8 2 get this phone

in my country singapore, u only need to pay S$60 more than this hp to get a K750i with a standard 2yr mobile plan. so this hp is not really value-for-money for the price it command.

This looks to be a bit of a dissapointment,it's merely an E398 with I-tunes software.I have an E398,don't get me wrong it's music capabilities are excellent and blow the pants off my much more expensive samsung D500,but the ROKR could easily have been a much better phone,if moto had chucked in a megapixel cam,tweaked the design,maybe threw in an FM radio and not imposed the 100 limit for i-tunes they could have had a winner,sadly though I don't really see this faring too well.

I have tried this phone and it is rubbish. Sorry, but if you want a Motorola with an MP3 player, I would suggest you wait for the SLVR L7. It is a much better phone. It has all the design and function of a V3 plus MP3 player and FM Radio!! I will deffinitely wait for that.

It's a very Smart, Trendyphone. Listining to music thru head is a wounderful experience, it feels like ur sinting in A Class Concert hall. I have used a lots of hand devices , when u play music on full picth they creat head ache. But's in this device u love to play musin for long hours on full pitch. KEEP IT UP MOTOROLA and expect more good quality device in future.

If Apple was so concerned about having a rival to their product, why the hell would they produce the ROKR E1. This limitation will just put off people from actually buying this phone. I'd rather buy one of the Sony Ericsson ones or maybe that new one from Nokia or maybe we should just get the E398. That'll save some money.

The reason Motorola have capped the songs at 100 is because Apple were worried about the E1 becoming an actual challenger to the iPod Crown. As if Apple would agree to a phone capable of carrying a 2GB memory card, that could challenge the new iPod Nano.

Apparently the software on the phone only allows up to 100 songs. That's pathetic. Even if you replace the memory card the software won't allow you to play the songs. Shame on Motorola and Apple for producing such a underwhelming product.

I got this phone from Carphone Warehouse in the UK the day it was released. It has since been returned and exchanged for a K750i and here's why: The headphone socket is 2.5mm and not 3.5mm so standard iPod headphones don't work with it. The headphone socket is recessed so an adaptor fails to fit properly. The UI is unbelievably slow to respond, especically when using iTunes. The phone is limited to 100 songs NOT the 512mb memory, in other words if you get to 100 songs but have only used 300 mb, tough, you're not allowed any more. The camera is terrible quality (0.3 megapixels) You can't set an MP3 (or an AAC for that matter) as a ringtone - WHY NOT? The USB connection is V1.1 not V2 so song transfers are very SLOW. I have both a 3rd Gen iPod and an iPod shuffle but thought this phone would still be useful to have - I was wrong!!

The phone actually supports MP3, AAC, MIDI and few other formats. And in iTunes you can select if you want to decode in MP3 or AAC when you rip your CD. You can also copy any MP3 or AAC songs to iTunes library on your PC or Mac and transfer on the phone. Of course iTunes songs sold by Apple are only in AAC.

Motorola doesn't care about E398 owners. We paid $598 when the phone came out. Now Motorola is making the phone again with same design, lower price and more features. Maybe if the shop let us exchange our old E398 for the Rokr E1, then I will be satisfied. Anyway the memory of the phone and the camera is not very good. Only VGA. But still got flash. Hope this phone is not as slow as E398.

i have just found out that this phone has that crappy loose e398/v620 charger input. this is a major set back for this phone (appart from the price possibly, which i have not found out how much it is in oz yet). i was hoping that they had converted this phone into using the V3 charger input. so unless it is a cheap phone i WILL NOT be ordering this one in.

to hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, m8 i could be wrong. i admit that but this phone still hasn't been released in australia yet (if it has then my motorola rep is going to cop it)and the price for a K750i is $740 here in oz, so if motorola is smart they will keep the price down as if they are around the same price then yes, i would take a K750i instead. i was just running off the theory that the price would be around the same price that the E398 is going for (which is currently $249). so i do apologize if i got some wrong info but if it was half the price than it would sell well in my area. thanks for the info. :)

no, i think it's stupid. many other phones before this have way better features, can play same amount of songs if not more and also have stereo quality speakers as well. this e1 is just a fixed up e398. the camera is the same along with other features like same size screen. the only added feature is "i-tunes", which to me still a try from apple to keep up the i-pod craze cause, again, other phones have the same and better things to offer

I bought this phone last week not realising it did not have a mega pix camera. I took it to work and all my collegues laughed at me when they got out there MID range Nokia phones such as the 7610 , 6630, 6680 etc. I am going to the phone shop to get a refund and buy a nokia. p.s i uploaded an image to my computer (the camera was set at best quality) and it came out looking like the qualoty of v600 picture (and that phone is 2 and half years old now) Why did motorola put itunes on this heap of junk when they could have fitted a user freindly normal mp3 player?

well, well..... E398 price: 199-250 E790\ROKR E1: 450-499 (yep guys is expensinve) So it's your opinion.....which one? The only thing that I can say is that E398 and ROKR are the same,same 3D Stereo Sound, same Games, same interface, except for the iTunes technology, 262k colors and video recording....But to put an iTunes and a video recorder in the E398 and paint it wait and increase the price so high? Is this something understandable? Maybe we can call it E398expesive version. Also whats is the main difference between iTunes and a MP3Player?? Moto worked in iTunes project 4 1 year and came with an "upgrade" (cant call this as an upgrade.....upgrade is when u increase everything in the phone) version of E398.... Nothing against Moto...I am owner of a E398 and I like Moto, but the only thing I can say is that Moto lost an enourmus oppurtunity to make a "revolution" and to compete with SE (w800i) and Nokia(N Series)

This phone is a bit outdated, especially the crappy charging connector which by now mini usb should be a standard but over all the phone is awesome for a first version and the price of $249. I've heard it over and over that it can only store 100 songs which sounds lame but Apple probably did not allow Motorola to support more songs because that would kill the IPOD completely, DUH!. If it was up to Motorola it would have supported at least 1000 songs. The reason it took Motorola so long to put this device on the market was that the 3 companies (Apple, ITUNES, MOT) had to come to an agreement to make everyone happy in the deal. The phone itself probably took a few weeks to design. I would not be surprised to see Motorola releasing a new version soon that will blow this one out of the water. Maybe a thinner Razr type with better camera?? There are a lot of things behind the scenes of a product development that most consumers do not have a clue of. What more can you ask for $249? It's the first ITUNES phone ever. That's how all companies do things.

after reading all of the opinions, i will say good on you motorola!!! they are aiming for the lower end market (this phone is probably half the price of the K750i). it will be a affordable alternative to the K750i so i think that they have done something right here. as for the camera only being VGA, if it was megapixel it would cost more to make, then the consumer would end up picking up the extra cost. all i ask of this phone is that it DOES NOT have that dodgy recharger connection. anyway my opinion, good job!!!

This phone is CRAP! It's the same E398 with a 512Mb card (takes at least 1hour to copy 500Mb from pc->phone) and a new firmware (still buggy, still not user friendly). Low quality camera, low JBenchmark score and now you must use iTunes every time you want to transfer music. My serious advice is to buy a SonyEricsson K750 instead if you don't need 850Mhz band.

Well, first of all, it looked crappy. Would it be a better idea if Apple designed the phone itself? Just look at how they designed the iPod Nano. It was phenomenal. The K750i/W800i w/ better camera, better design, and 2Gb of memorystick duo are now available will definitely blow ROKR out of the water. Motorola phones in Australia have a name to them: cheap and average quality. Even the RAZR is HUGE, it's flat but still the dimensions are too big for what it can offer. Motorola cameras are shocking! The VGA are bad, and the A/E1000 1.2MPx camera wasn't worth calling a camera. All in all iTunes and Apple must have aimed at the American market with this little "gadget". The japanese (and Europeans by now) have their own network providers who service them with music downloads by Sony (DoCoMo & Vodafone KK). And all you pay for in this phone is the name "Apple", "iPod", etc... The music quality will be probably the same as any other mp3 player... skater42

If Nokia and the other companies are so great, why couldn't they come up with an IPOD phone. You see, ITUNES and Apple only wants to deal with the best in class. Motorola products are great, that's why MOT stock is going up, because more and more people know what's the best. This is just a beginning for super cool gadgets Motorola will offer.

After all, the specs are average and the name and "reputation" where supposed to drive this model...which isn't happening. But it's like everything else, even in the mobile business. Why wasn't the W800 released simultaneously with the K750i...it's all about business and marketing. The ROKR has too many good intentions blocking its success. Vodafone on the other hand has successfully bridged some of these obsticles with their 3G Network and Sony, that Apple and iTunes don't want to/ cannot cross. Both Vodafone and Sony are collaborating as a music business and through that can provide the Chakuta Music Download. Full MP3/ACC+ tracks for a few dollars that you can set as ring-tones and that, different from Apple/iTunes, are provided by the Network Provider and Sony. Apple and Motorola are both big players, but have a third player that is in the way when it comes to ring-tones & profit: The network provider. In the first two months of Chakuta's release in Japan, millions of songs were sold and though they are exclusive to the 3G Markets in Europe and Japan (and soon Asia-Pacific) they fulfill these objectives: - Full tracks that can be set as Ringtones - Downloadable to the phone straight off the net via WCDMA (UMTS) - Can be transferred to SD-Cards and hence are portable. This phone is just made to rock. all those who have said that this phone sucks n that sony ericssons or the nokias r better than this have not used a motorola as of yet, I suppose. I have used and heard the sound quality of both sony w800 n the other nokia mp3 phones. But they just cant match up with the sound quality of the motorola. I already own a E398 and have actually compared it with the SE K750i. E398's sound quality is far better. Apart from the music features the signal reception and the voice clarity of E398 is awesome. So it is natural that the ROKR E1 will inherit these traits of the E398. All those idiots who have posted saying that the ROKR E1 sucks have no idea of what the ROKR is going to be. And since it is being released in collaboration with Apple, White has to be its color.

lolxx... i thought Ipod will make a really cool phone.. i read the opinions here and 80% says it suk.. personally i still prefer walkman phone.. this phone is not really better compare to W550/W600... even though W550 only 256 MB, they are HTML browser, 1,3 Megapixel camera.. what about games? i dunno about motorola games though.. But W550 already have the dedicated game buttons and can play it in PSP style (for a phone which is supposed to be a walkman phone or music phone?).
