I had this phone when it first cam out onto the market years ago. all i can say is that i loved it, all the features, everything about the phone except one major fault. this was the little green joystick kept breaking. i had insurance so i was able to get a new handset three different occassions. finally the comapany i was with replaced the handset with another brand. . . problem solved. i wouldn't recommed this phone guys, sorry!

After 3 years I still have this phone. It's been awesome. The ring lights never fail to keep me amused. Luckily the joystick hasn't broken off, I only lost the green part about a month back. My paint hasn't peeled off either and it's not like I take really good care of it. If you guys want to get a new one, get it off Ebay. That's where I got mine. Cheerio!

I had my phone not even 1month and the joystick broke when i wanted to get it out of my pocket while receiving a call...the phone paint just fell off after 2months and if thats not all my joystick stops working or worked half after not even 3months!NEVER buy this phone surely not if ur a teenager!!!DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE EVER p.s. i love the rhythm lights but that doesn't compensate for all the disadvantages...

This phone is such a cool phone. However, it is so not practical. I had two and each got damaged the same way. The LCD screen cracked from inside..which I will never understand how..b/c I was extra careful with both. I have since went on to Smartphones instead and so far so good.

I've had this phone for about a year now no serious problems. If you are looking for plenty of features this is not your phone (it�s a Motorola!) but if style is what you want, this is your phone. I LOVE it; no phone turns heads like this one. I get compliments everywhere I go and the rhythmic lights are great at night. You just have to be very gentle with this phone.

Still hot after 2 1/2 years! Not only does this phone have a robust feature set, but it's also SMOKIN! Here on Long Island people have all sorts of fancy phones and gizmos, but I've never seen another one of these. I have received plenty of compliments and glances of curiousity/envy when people see the bezel light up (you can turn this feature off if you're more of the reserved type) and hear the MP3 quality ringtones playing whenever someone calls. Heck, just taking this thing out of my pocket has drawn conversation. It looks good no matter what! I have my second one now after the first one, unfortunately, started freezing up repeatedly from a year and a half of constant use (these things seem to have a limited lifetime like other cell phones I've had). Do not let this discourage you for a year seems to be the lifespan of numerous phones nowadays (aside from the old skool Nextals which lasted forever but are ugly and have no features). I don't know why these phones didn't blow up when they came out onto the scene back in 03/04, but if you can live without quadband and a large storage capacity or even if you just want a fashion phone that looks cool when you go out at night, this is the one! It looks better than anything you will find in the T-mobile or Cingular stores for certain. This phone is all about being unique and doing it stylishly. Got mine NIB on Ebay for $76 including shipping. Holla to that!

i had this phone it's really great yes bleutooth yes can change internet but you gotta set up the connection but this phone piss me off it dont last long the rotation thing is damn cheap my phone broke after 3 month and couldnt get it fixed at all they ask me 3/4 price of the phone to fix it better buy a new 1 -_-

i had this phone and it worked fairly well, the only problem was that the service was not that great. Other than that i loved it, watch out though because mine got stolen, that's how awesome it was. i would recommend it.

Now I cannot comment on other brands of motorola but I own a V710 motorola so I'll just tell you about my exerience with that. It is absolutely, absolutely the worst phone I've ever had in my life. Freezing? Yes, you got that right. I had several motorola phones prior to this and they all had these same problems. 1) The antenna is so fragile, it always breaks. I think they designed it so that it'll break before a year. 2) Because it broke, I got another one through my insurance (for people who'll say so why did you get another motorola....because I had to (insurance) and guess what, after 2 weeks, the charger is loose on the phone. Just look at its design, it wiggles when you put that charger in the phone. By the way, this happen to my prior phone too! It is designed to fail. I know I can't be the only one experiencing this. Why hasn't any complaint to them and demand all their products removed from the stores. I'm with Verizon and I like their service alot but all they sell is crapy Motorola phones. Prior to motorola, I never had these problems with any other phones. I will NEVER in my life buy another motorola, even if it is free. It's basically trash to me. I'm even thinking about stopping my service with Verizon because they carry such crap.

it is not so bad the phone... is just it gets really hard to clean the screen when the dust gets inside the phone.... and it also gets a little bit slow when you have a lot of pictures in it! besides that the phone is cool..!!!

I bought this phone last year November. Within three months it only froze every time i closed it. The warranty was still on it so i took it back to the store to fix. When i collected it and i tried to access the camera it only froze up again. I then had to take it back to the store for a second time, but this time they honored my warranty, replacing it with the ROKR E1. Overall it is too expensive. it has no memory card and gives too many problems. If you are a person that uses your phone alot this is not for you. It excels in style and display quality but fails in durability.

It�s an Xcellent phone.Unafortunately yesterday it was stolen :( I used it for about 8 months and I didn�t have any trouble, except 2 or 3 times it freezed.It�s very stylish, looks really cool, especially when receiving calls/msgs that turn on the motoglyph.It amazes people! About the joystick, worked fine 4 me.Don�t know how some people break it. Do they play PacMan with it? I would like to buy another one, but I�ll buy another model since de V80 only worked in Buenos Aires and didn�t in the rest of the country, because Argentina uses GSM850 outside B.A. I�ll think about it...perhaps a Siemens CF76 or a PEBL...

I've had my V80 since Aug. 2004. The one and ONLY problem I have had with it is the screen going blank & turning off. For those of you who think this phone is not user friendly? Please. If you're not a phone connoisseur, you shouldn't have bought this phone. In fact, one does not need to be a "cell phone connoisseur" to use this phone. Motorola has the easiest layouts. For those of you who have had their joystick broken.. DUH, just be more gentle w/it.

I would go for the sony walkman phone...same type of idea with the rotation but it is also a mp3 player with 256 memory built in.

This phone surely looks nice and stylish, but its the worst phone i'v ever bought in my life. why? 1-The green joystick was broken 2 times bcs its tooo weak. 2-The screen keeps turning white and switches off repeatdly.And the maintenence cant fix it and wont replace it. 3-battery life tooooooooooo short. 4-The plastic its made of is soo strange from the slighstest touch ur hands will leave marks. 5- the USB doesnt work,even eith the original cable. 6-Its expensive relative to other phones with the same features. 7-When u try to resell it, u have to lose at least 70% of the price u paid for it even if its new. 8-No one is willing to buy it. 9-Small memory capacity cant take more than 50 pics of good quality. 10-Scratches easily. Please ask before buying it and read the opinions.

You can get covers on ebay. They have good ones on there for cheap, or you can visit your local mall. They have booths where they sell covers for any phone. Good luck!

This phone is the perfect example of rubbish!!! After a while, the screen will literally freeze, which occurs very frequently. This has happened to not just me but to quite a few of my friends. The joystick in the middle falls out easily and has to be replaced or else it will be very uncomfortable 2 use. I wouldn't advise any hard working person to buy this fone. It's a waste of money.

To transfer pictures or sounds from V80 to other phones or computer, just select "copy" from the picture menu.Then "copy to Bluetooth" It`s that easy

I have to post this comment according to what I have experienced with this phone. It's such a complicated device that'll take forever for you to familiarize yourself with. Even the back cover will give you a hard time before you can open it. Why doesn't motorola improve by releasing phones that are more user-friendly?

You can unlock the phone by holding the left key until ok displays, and then press ok. I have never found a way to turn off the auto lock function. hope that helps

In response to the slow reaction time with the mp3. ringers.. you need to check your memory... it has plenty of memory, but if you have used 80% or more, your programs will stall. Especially when you have a person that has specialty ringers, pictures..for when they call it does delay a bit. Especially when when you trya and put the whole entire song.. it takes a couple of seconds for it to load. My suggestion limit your ringers to 20secs. It should help the situation.. reduce the number of misc. pictures you have on your phone.. send em to your mobile web... if you dont have thhat with your service, yahoo mobile hasd this feature.. where they will store your photos for free.

Also.. Let me remind you all that there are plenty of carriers who will send ringers to your phone. Try www.planetringtone.net, in addition to that... to send recieve mms, wap messages you must have the tmobile configuratior sent to your phone.. it will come as a browser message.. and well download to update your phone settings, so that you are able to get on the mobile web, and send and recieve text messages...you can also set up the im function using aim!

for all of you who do not know, these phones come with a one year warranty, i broke my phone,.. cracked the lcd, and some other stuff. i called motorola, and they gave me the address to mail it to.. prelogged the phone to expect it.. and within 5 days i had a new phone.. cause they couldnt fix the lcd cause it was irreplaceable. the phone gets lots of attention when im out.. teh colorful ring lights that surround the faceplate.. the camera.. at the flick of a thumb. i must admit.. my joystick did break as well. but hey it was replaced along with everything else at no charge... it is allways the center of attention!!!

OK. Let's be honest to ourselves. This is a great MOTOROLA phnone. Meaning that it is not worse than any of the triplets. Compare it with other manufacturers its puny. Why? First of all, I have it for 6 months. Total talk time is 375 hours. Half of it with a HS801 BT head-set. Of course you have to understand, that I use it as a business phone also. Mechanics: Rather OK. Had to exchange the flip only once and it was mainly the foult of my boss, who thought it to be a flip-phone. But it gets loose after a week or so. The built is also OK. Fall down a couple of times and no problem. Joystic is usable, but since it is higher than the soft buttons it just broke down. The rubber gave up basically. SW related failures: Basically it is a V600. 85% of the board is the same, only modified for the display. It is a great thing that you can unlock the menu while closed. However, not turning the menu upside down, than makes it hard to use closed. Also, how come that I have to open it for dialling even with the BT head set on? Though calling back an SMS sender while the phone is closed works. SW design failure originating from having the V600 SW just modified where needed but not thinking over the addid style functionalities. So much for the V80, now let's see Motorola related failures. I understand, that what I will write here does not bother 95% of the users as the function is not used by the majority of Mobile users. Alarm clock: Why do I have to enable it every day? Most other phones can be set up for a weekly routine. Also, if you enable and than change the time, you have to disable and re-enable again. Contacts: Why does it cut the names after 12 or 16 characters - do not know the logic yet :) - when syncronised from a PC? Also strange because it accepts long names entered locally. Contacts2: Why do I have to browse through 385 entries for a phone number? First of all, you can only filter for the first letter in a name. Other phones I used had the function of typing the name and the list narrowd by that. Contacts3: Why does it make 5 entries for a single contact if I have phone, mobile, pager, fax and e-mail entered. It is rather accepted to show the name once and than pick what number you need. Syncronising events from a PC is also strange. An event may repeat every day, but not every workday - that needs to be 5 events. You can't have the same event on Tuesday and Friday, that needs to be added as two separate events. It is a problem, because any SW I use on the PC have these functions and at syncronising it returns an error. Syncronising2: Why in the name of SW writers do I need external SW to be able to syncronise it with Outlook or Lotus Notes. Mac is a different story. I don't want to list manufacturers here who could writhe a plug-in wher I just click a button, get a coffe and by the time I drink it everything is done in the way I want it. No afterwork (like adding digits to the names) is required. So all in all: Motorola V80 is a good phone, when you use it as private phone and have a dozen or so contacts stored. V80 SW is problematic only where the V600 SW wasn't modified for the alterations between the two phones. Motorola in general. Use it as a phone, MP3 player, camere (if you like). Take it to parties, etc. One thing you should never do with a Motorola phone: Use it as a business phone. It will just give you headaches.

Black beauty!Bought it in Thailand for 8000baht.Came with bluetooth headset.Cost in oz dollars,about 270.A real bargain.All my mates love it.Bit girly though really.No really worrisome bugs to speak of.Nothing that drove me nuts.No probs with the joystick and I really use the thing well,although carefully.Remember,it is a phone,not a hummer.If you pick up one cheap enough then I would suggest the purchase if only for the perve factor.I gave my Siemens s65 to my wife.Gorgeous phone that one but as with all my previous Siemens phones,buggy as hell.Nice one Moto.Would have liked more memory and the ability to shoot vids though.

When i first got this phone the joystick broke off within 2 hours!! CW gave me a replacement and i haven't had a problem untill now. I bought the phone 1 year ago and it is being repaired for the second time. I like the phone and so do all of my friends but Motorola needs to get there act together. This phone has been sent to the repair shop X 2 because of screen freeze. Also whenever I put it in my hangbag the screen flips open and either calls someone on spped dial or lights up and wastes battery power. Also difficult to get the charger to work. Waste of money and very irritating design. I will go back to Nokia and keep it simple!!!

I had this phone for 3 months and it made 5 trips to the repair shop. The first probelm i encountered was the screen froze when ever a flipped it. Next the battery woudldnt charge and after that the joy stick fell off. The screen broke and the stick fell off again. I am very disapointed with Motorola as i have NEVER had probelms as much as this with any other phone. BEWARE- THIS PHONE IS GARBAGE!

To all those people considering to get this phone: V80 have too much quality & design issues.. i have replace the green knob twice.. i have also replace the battery & charger.. the LCD screen also have problems.. the phone occasionally hangs or reset it self.. i bought the phone for 6 mths & have gone to the service center for 5 times.. Dun buy this lousy phone, unless u buy the phone for decorations purposes, and never plan to use it... for me, i am never going to get another motorola product ever again..

i got it from 6 month , really it is great in design, no one hold's it, so u r Pioneer, BUT every week I take it to the service, to fix "software,the flip and scroll".. there is a problem in this things ,they always crashes. this phone is garbage, i have had to have 4 replacements from my insurance company because of screen and build quality problems, if you want something nice to look at, by all means get it, but only if you want to keep it in a glass case and never put it in your pocket, come on motorola, we know you can do better!

Well I just purchased a V80 and I live in the U.S.A. and since this phone is not marketed in the U.S. I am having difficulty claiming the warranty.All I have to say is this DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!Especially if you are on the go and strong fingers!I had my phone 1 day.It was in my pocket and took it out to answer.JOYSTICK Was Gone.Still functioned,but now after a few days since I have been trying to get ahold of the company to claim the warranty the phone is USELESS.Because the Joystick is the ONLY way to SCROLL though the MENU.My ADVICE,I mean the Phone is an eyecatcher,I really liked it that's why I bought it.But It is also FRAGILE.MOTOROLA needs to change the Joystick to a Pad like a playstaystion joystick or make the it STRONGER.For on the go real life hazards!

my v80 is an eye catcher in public. Sure you can't really change the icons or import new skins like the triplet phones even though the v80 is said to be part of that family. Using both a usb2 data cable and bluetooth, I've been able to import my own mp3 ringtones, wallpaper, screensavers, edit the loudness of my earpiece/speakerphone/ringtone settings as well as change the colors of the clublights/ringlights! So far I haven't experienced the freezing that some people have claimed with this phone and have had no problems with the green joystick.

Just got the V80, my friend had it before and had no problems, had the phone for a few days, and so far the phone is pretty good! i love its features and think how it opens is just sick! cannot go wrong with this phone. just hope the troggle doesn't get weak like people say,, but so far my friends and my phone is working great

I just bought this cell phone, the design is very nice, but the Joystick is very cheap, when I use and stop using it, keeps moving alone. :( The problem is that the joystick is used for all the menus, options on the phone. But overall is working very nice. Just the joystick :'(

seth zora: you need to cycle your battery. Did you charge the battery when you got the phone to complete charging?? You might want to go into the settings and turn off the status light. Basically your joystick will blink every second or so. That usually drains the battery. I know it happened to me. I left it on all night only to discover the next morning that my battery level went from 6 to 0! So I have my display set to dim after 30 seconds, display timeout set to off and my battery usually last about 2 or 3 days with a couple of hours of talking and standby.

I do like this phone the only problem I have ran into is the fact that the hinged flip on the phone has a tendency to flip open in my pocket while doing my daily activities. Also the battery sometimes will run down quicker then other days. Its very unpredictable.

I got my phone back from Motorola in the US. They fixed everything with it. It's perfect now. They fixed the defective camera by replacing the entire top half of the phone. Well done Moto! To anyone who has problems with their phone, you have a 1yr manufacturer warranty.

Nice looking phone but after about 3-4 months the joystick had broke and the speaker so i could hear anyone when they phoned. also the memory on the phone is disgraceful compared to other phones for example the sony ericsson k700i was out the same time as the v80 and this has 40MB and the samsung D500 has 100MB so this just proves it is possible i just dont see why motorola could only give us a crappy 5MB. Don't buy if you like downloading ringtones would be a good business phone has a large address book and can store 100 sms.

This phone sucks i bought it two months ago and it worked fine up until the last week when the joystick broke of luckily i found the piece and popped it back into place and then today the screen cracked internally since its an lcd screen its now got a huge black slash down the middle that has become pressure sensitive. Don't buy this phone. P.S. Motorola officially acknowledeges that the joystick is defective.

So far, so good. I've had this phone for about 2 weeks now, and no problems yet. It hasn't frozen, the joystick is still attached and workng fine. The only bad thing is that the volume/voice record buttons on the side are hard to press. That and the face gets fingerprinted up really easy and the battery cover is a pain to get off. Many props to Tigerdirect.com for selling it at such a great price...And to think I almost bought a v3. Those are cool, but they're too fat.

Daniel, The only place you can really get the joystick part which comes as a whole, is from cnn.cn which is in Hong Kong. I believe the last time I checked on that part was about $6.99, but I don't know what the exchange rate is in Hong Kong currency. Don't follow any of the tips on how to repair that joystick part like supergluing small beads because it'll leak into the circuits and prevent it from working properly. Fortunatelly I've been very careful on how I use that joystick! Also if you choose to use the Motorola Phone Tools software, be advised as there are numerous problems trying to have it work with the v80's bluetooth. My version was 3.20f and it was working for about a couple of weeks, now it's stuck on the initializing. Fortunately got the software that came with my Targus usb bluetooth adapter, so I have to figure out how to use it!

The v80 is a decent phone, i work on them doing repairs and i must say i prefer it to the v220's 545's etc, only thing its lacking is a SD card and video recording then it'll be well good. RE to the joystick issue, the joystick and nav buttons come as a single part and is not "stuck together". Also if you really wish to repair the joystick you'll have to strip the entire phone as there are two T3 screws located under the "hinge/swivel", best bet when the joystick brakes is to send in for repairs, which should'nt cost more than �10 at maxium, the labour time should be about 15-20min, so dont go using super glue :) just makes a mess...... enjoy

I bought two Moto V80 phones, one for me, and one for my husband. So far, we're both happy with our phones. Bluetooth was important when choosing the phones and I have to say that the BT works great. We had no problems pairing it with my PC, Dell Axim X50 PPC, or Toyota Prius. In fact, the Moto V80 works better with the Prius than the SE T616 I had before.

I just got my v80 yesterday and have been very happy about it. It's so easy (especially the joystick) and fun (the light around the phone) to use. Nice size, good looking. Not like other people said, I really don't feel this phone nor its joystick flimsy at all. I guess the only weak part I see is the plastic battery case (it looks well but feels so fragile). I upgraded my cellular phone from a v300 to this v80, and I do see a great improvement from v300 to v80 (except the alarm function's still worse than other competitor such as Samsung). So far it's a cool and excellent phone to me.

I got my v80 phone yesterday and so far I've been careful like the previous post. I just hope my green joystick doesn't come off, but I'll be posting questions on how to remount that green joystick. I think there's a trick in how to carefully tilt that multifunction button without it falling off.

I bought this phone knowing about some of the rumored problems with it. I assumed that most of the people having problems (broken joystick, freezing) were having them only because of treating the phone roughly. Well, I've treated my phone as delicately as can be expected. It's never been dropped or put in a tight pocket. This morning (I've had the phone for about 1 month) the joystick fell off. I'll be trying to repair it myself with a small drop of cyanoacrylate (crazy) glue, but this really IS a manufacturing defect. The green joystick cover was only lightly adhered to the rubber gasket in the joystick well (my opinion is that the wrong adhesive was used) and NOT to the square black physical stick behind it. I wonder if Motorola will ever make good on this obvious engineering error. In fairness, however, all other aspects of the phone's function have been flawless. The camera and swivel work fine and I have had no freezes.

No, you can't get the V80 thru Cingular. You can buy one unlocked or have it unlocked and use it on either Cingular or T-mobile in the USA. DO NOT buy phones thru myworldphone.com, the company (or shady guys out of a room/office in NYC) absolutely suck. They sell refurbished phones and you can only return them (if they deem necessary) w/in 5 days.

This Cellphone is perfect ! no probs with thus far .....frose a few times....who cares though...camera sucks.....but who cares...i download my friends pics direct from my comp and attach to their numbers...so when they call me these amazing quality pics come up...instead of the crappy ones u take with the camera.....the lights around the outside of the phone after 5 months have become pretty lame....but they're ok....Bluetooth is a huge factor....MP3 cool also....i live in Canada and i've had absolutely no problems here with reception in fact it's been better in some respects....it's also been great when i've been to New York.....The only reason i would even look at the V3 RAZR is for the size....otherwise it's the same operating system.....my next phone needs video.....for now i'm hangin' on to this phone.....i'm basically the only guy that has one !

I love the design but I am having problems with it. First the green navigation buttion came off and I had to send it for repair. Then, when closed and I receive a text messsage, and the navigation button is accidently pressed (which happens in a handbag for example) it picks up Quick Note text messages and sends one after another to the number where I had just received a text message from. This should never happen because the phone is closed! I have been charged for many extra text messages and the phone is currently in the repair center for the third time because they cannot fix the fault! The camera has also been faulty and needed to be repaired. When everything is working then it is a great phone, stylish and easy to use.

I had my V80 for 3 weeks and it froze on me. Wouldn't let me into the phone at all. Then a friend fixed it. Then 2 weeks later the camera says "busy. try again" So the camera will turn on sometimes, but is all green and pixilated. So I sent it to Motorola for repairs. Waiting to see if they fix it. The phone is unlocked and I use it on the Cingular network in the DC area. Let me know if anyone has questions or the same problems with their phone.

This phone is great.i've had it for two months and it works perfect no problems. the joystick is very strong dont believe the other opinions and the glass is the strongest i have seen on a phone. my phone has fallen at least 12 times and glass hasn't even cracked. the only problem i have is with the bluetooth headset i can't get it to work. other than that the phone is great. i highly recommend.

This phone is absolutley amazing. I have never had a Motorola before an never used to like them...until this BEAUTY! I love the uniqe design and im the envy of all my Mates. Please, if you have the money, purchase this phone. The only single thing i am disapointed with is that it isnt able to take videos. However, the camera quality is great and the person who thought of the landscape camera mode is a genius! Ok, the camera could have been more well place, but it is useable once you get used to it. I love the event lights. The menu is a bit difficult to handle..ive had this phone for nearly a week and have only just found out how to change the message tones...and that was only because i asked a mate for help. The picture quality is good and has a good colourful screen. Bluetooth is a handy feature too. Overall this is a great phone. If you have the money, Buy it please, you wont regret it.

i had this phone for a couple of weeks until i dropped it on a tile floor and the screen (not the glass) cracked. Instead of the usual screen there was a black crack and around it was surrounding faded-whitish screen. The guy i got it from owned one himself and his green little joystick broke off. i used the joystick lightly, trying not to yank it off. the wallpaper can change when you have your phone open and closed but once it froze. the wallpaper stayed the same, i couldn't turn it off, i couldn't press any key....so i basically had to take the phone apart and replace the battery. you have to open the phone to answer it, unlike some sliding phones. No vibrate and ringtone at the same time...but you can take pictures in a landscape position and there are different patterned lights surrounding the screen when someone calls or when you have a rhythm nearby. I got it for free so you shouldn't pay too much for this phone.

I am a student, students work vary rough with phones. I have my V80 for quite a while now, and to date it has been only a pleasure. I think if you handle it well, it will keep on working for you. I fancy the mp3 ringtones, and the voice dial is the best AI I've ever seen on a phone. You wont be disappointed.

The joystick does not feel at all flimsy, the flip movement is smooth and clean, i don't know if i got a recently upgraded version of the phone or something but mine is working perfectly, there are no freezes or anything. Simon you're totally right. Have mine v80 up for 8 months and still nothing wrong. All the writings of fell off joysticks etc. are fables. The v80 is a good phone when you handle it well.

ive had my v80 for about 6 months now, and i carnt fault it. My bluetooth dongle syncs with my pc just fine. I can watch videos and listen to music with out any problems. To the people who had problems with thiers i suggest you look after your phones better and they might work.

Hi Ikemi I am considering getting the V80.I think it's awesome and has some pretty nifty features.A few things do however concern me.That is the problem ppl seem to have with the joystick and the swivel which loses it's smoothness.Is the joystick REALLY such a big problem as ppl claim it is,does it freeze for nothing and does the swivel really loose its smooth rotation???I really like this phone,but don't wanna waste getting it if it has all these problems. ok i have goten my motorola v80 back from the repair center. the swivel mechanism is now loose,the bottom part of the phone is loose and it looks like one of the techs dropped it caus ethere is a gash in the bottom part of the phone. motorola is the crappiest phone manufacturer i have ever known. I think its a great phone. I have had the phone for about 9 months and never had any thing wrong with it. The only thing i would like changed on it is i'd like video recording aswell as taking pictures. The rythm lights are the best thing about it and that im able to download games to it. i had it for half month... the joystick is still in good shape... and the phone looks fantastic... just freeze a few times, but just turn the phone off and then turn it bak on... the bak cover is kinda hard to take out even though i press the silver button on top... but thats not a big problem... at this point, i'm very satisfy with this phone..=)

To unknown; Quality control of Moto is baddddd? This is the worst crap i ever heard! Motorola made their phones in Signapore. Is the quality control of Chinese SonyEricsson or Korean Samsung better? Don't think so. I have a Motorola Timeport (3 years old) and still working well (most of Samsungs, Blokia's or Ericsson's are burried at that age).

To MC; it is free to leave a review or opinion. There are many people that leaves opinions while they don't even have that phone at all! Felling off joystick is just bullshit from Nokia or other brands freaks who'll set it up here. The v80 is a very good phone and there are no bad ones. You have 2 years garantee (Europe). I have one for 1/2 year and use it the whole day and still works 100%. I think the v80 is one of the best Moto's ever made.

Recently I received my V80 and it has exceeded all my expectations. The design of the phone definitely stands out from the crowd and oozes build quality. The v80 has an excellent screen quality. Reception is good even in the middle of nowhere. Tiny con is the memory of only 5mb.

i just bought the phone and... it looks great! the things that bother me are: no infrared port and the lack of cool deafult ring tones :) the joystick seems a little over the edge, but.. as with any other phone: you must be gentile with it.

The LIVING NIGHTMARE of all phones. This is seriously the worst phone I have ever owned. I have had it for three months and it has been replaced four times. The green knob on the joystick has come off three times and the swivel rotator swivelled off the last time. The softare is so bugged - that it can suddenly start ringing, and there is no-one on the other end - the ony way to stop it ringing is to take the battery off of the back as it freezes not only the screen but all the buttons including the on/off switch. The menus freeze at least once a day and the battery has to be charged up every night. I have dropped my phone whilst it was in my bag and cracked the screen internally and so now I cannot use the phone at all. I really would steer well clear of the Motorolla V80 if you know what's good for you - The flashing lights really aren't worth the hassle! P.S. - If anyonw knows where to buy replacement screens I would be grateful.

This is one of the better phones that I have had. I am seriously worried about breaking the joystick on my phone so much that I refuse to put it in my pocket. The lights and everything are very cool and they attract a lot of attention. Also, does anyone know how to set up AIM on my phone? I also use T-Mobile in Colorado and this phone is great.

This phone is a complete piece of crap. The people at motorola lured us with the phones attractive and ingenious swivel design, but left us hanging with its lack of performance ability. It gets no reception. The swivel is smooth, but the screens reaction time to the swivel is slow at best. The camera quality is poor. The placement of the camera lense is not intuitive. The speakerphone is a piece of crap. The battery cover is extremely easy to remove. The phone is easily scratched. The interface is identical to motorolas V300,v400,v525,v600, and probably the next ten models they'll come out with. The screen is dull and lacks the vibrance found in the previous motorola v phones. If you are considering purchasing this phone please continue to look, I dont wish this phone on anyone.

Guys end of talking.....go and read this review and you'll know what this phone really is live moto. I used to be - and still - a samsung fan but even the latest models from samsung lakes the most important technology which is the bluetooth, so while searching for another one to replace my old n500 :( I came to this one and read several articles about it and I made my choice. I know that articles aren't enough to gudge but if you knew what and where to read you'll feel as if you've tried if yourself.

Have had this phone one day. Mine is the European issue phone. www.myworldphone.com said I was lucky to even get one especially a European market phone because they are more desirable. I asked why - the dude said they are less buggy, better software, and hardware. I have mine on Cingular service, but had to get the nationwide plan to prevent roam charges. The phone was htting all the ATT towers at 900Mhz and Cingular on the East coast runs their GSM at 800-850Mhz. SO I was gonna get hammered on roam charges. The blue-tooth is pretty awesome except you can only connect one thing at a time. I have an iPaq with I was able to get to connect to the phone modem for dialing my internet service. ALlows me to use the browser on my iPaq with the phone (look ma - no wires). The Blue-Tooth earpiece is awesome! Also works with my iPaq to let me play MP3 through it - no wires. The lights, style, camera, landscape and portrait modes are just awesome. My only beef is www.myworldphone.com forgot to put the CDROM, plug adapter, sync cable, and English manual in the box. So far I like it I just need to get everything set up. Since I have a new contract with Cingular and they shut their website down tonight - I still need to tweak my services.

I bought this phone 8 weeks ago, used it for 2 weeks and noticed that the battery was going flat after 48 hours. manufacures state 150 to 250 stand by time. also the green menu selector knob has falled off cant use the pnone I sent it back for repair 5 weeks ago and i am still waiting for it to return. Ihave recently got the phone and was let down a bit i love the design but some of the features i was expecting were not there. Most inportantly was the bluetooth i really wanted to be able to connect to other phones for pics and what not but this phone dosnt allow you to roam for anything but hands-free devices. Bought the V80 phone last weekend n have so much fun with it ^_^. Design n lights R absolutely cooooooool. However,I dislike the wallpapers & decided 2 load some fr my collection.Whenever I transfered jpg file via mobile PhoneTool,the file was reduced 2 6-7kb with resolution only 120x160 regardless how big n high resolution the org file was =( Can any1 assist.... So far since august I have had 5 V80, three didnt work with wap, MMS and it was resolved by changing the phone, on the other the sound packed up and the 5th one the joystick fell off. A very cool looking phone but never had so many problems with a phone. I cant seem to get the WAP working on this phone....it connects to the o2 page easy but wont connect to anything else. Ive searched all the booklets and there are instructions on the net for setting up another motorola model WAP, but it doesnt work for this phone because the menu is different and doeasnt have the same options. Question regarding incoming voicemail. How come my V80 does not show me that I have voicemail messages, and a check message function? I noticed all of the voicemail appears to be shown as test message alert. The icon shows text message (with an envelope); and when I check the message centre, message inbox = 1, and voicemail = 0. I read some reviews about this phone, and most of them complained about how fragile the joystick is. I thought oh, i'll never happen to me. Exactly a week after buying the phone I dropped it on the pavement, joystick thing has split and doesn't work anymore, and I have some attractive looking scratches on the front :( Since I dropped it, theres probably nothing I can do about taking it back, so if you are the clumsy type and you buy this phone, it won't stay pretty for long!

Just to let you all know. I had to take the phone back as i just couldnt get on with it. The poor batt life, the fact it unlocks when you get a message or call, no delivery reports. Dont get me wrong its a nice phone to look at and if thats what your after go for it! Cheers!

I just bought my v80 off eBay. So far its treated me well. I've used Nokia for the past few years, so switching to Motorola is taking a little to get used to. Its a definite head-turner in northside Chicago. It doesn't feel as sturdy as any other cell phone I've handled, as anyone who has the phone cannot deny. Hi all just got the v80 and i like alot. But it does unlock when a text or call is recieved. Tho only way i found to stop it from opening is putting a lock on the text part, which means you have to put in a code to read or send texts. The same can be done for calls. Hi all, A few questions about this phone as looking at getting one. I read that the phone does not have sms delivery reports is this correct? Secondly when you get a text or a call the external buttons become unlocked thus if in your pocket could end up replying without you knowing? Many thanks

@Emil: To join the headset with the phone you are required to hold down the telephone symboled button for approximately 3-5seconds. The blue flashing LED should change to a constant glow. Then by performing a device search via the V80's BLuetooth options the headset will be highlighted on your screen. You will need to enter the code 0000 to complete pairing. Hope that helps! =)

I bought two V80's for my family and I have nothing but praise for this phone. The guys are right in saying that they are great conversation items. And the fact that you can't get this at the mall or any other mainstream store makes it a highly coveted piece. I love the bluetooth earpiece that comes with it, but somehow I have had problems connecting it to my handset: *Device Not Found*. This sorta sucks because the best part of the phone is using the earpiece. Does anyone have the same problem with their bluetooth capability? If so, what do I do with my USA bought phone? Thanks!

@Viv: The V80 is without a doubt a nice phone in terms of functionality and aesthetical design. However I feel that the handset is sorely let down by this design fault. I always take great care of my belongings and I have never dropped my V80 at all! It is in brand new condition, so you could imagine my disbelief when I discovered the remains of the joystick in my pocket =/ I suppose owners will have to be *extra* careful! I'm not sure I could recommend it fully. It's probably best for you to go to a phone shop and try a V80 out for yourself. Then weigh up the advantages and disadvantages to aid your decision. I haven't had the software upgrade and I don't think I require it! I do have Motorola PhoneTools though ... As for what to do, I e-mailed the company from whom I purchased the V80 hoping that they might have accepted the handset in return for a credit note, which I could spend at their online again when in search of another phone. However as the problem occured 28 days after purchase I must take up my queries with Motorola UK themselves. So it looks like I will have the V80 repaired ... and it better be for free! Then I may sell it and purchase a V3 =(

the answer to the most of the questions here is simple~~ if u are into a phone w/ full of features...and make ur every penny worth it w/ the funtionality and all those pratical reasons... v80 is absoluly not the strongest...i'll suggest u to get a pda phone...or one of those loaded clam shell.... plus digi cam and ipod are out there if u are REALLY into music or pic taking.... but if u want your a phone to make a statement... and dont mind get all the attaention when ur phone rings in a coffee shop... or dont mind your friends and their frineds' friends all come and ask for ur permission to touch & play ur phone when u hanging out...or u are ok w/ a stranger hot chick in the bar stares ur phone when the color light flasing alone w/ the hip pop... then... maybe u wont mind getting this v80.... becoz i think those are the things less likely to happen if u have a clam shell or a nerdy pda phone like evrey god damn people around are carrying... is there really a fair way to compare a praticle SUV and a 2 door sport car?! isnt it all just about what u want..

@David: As the battery is Li-Ion it needs to be conditioned. To do this fully charge the battery and use the phone until completely empty. This will take approximately one day, but repeat the above steps again a couple of times and you'll notice an improvement in battery performance - Should last up to 7-10 days =)

Sorry that I have not answered all of your questions regarding the V80, however due to being rather busy the existance of these boards had completely slipped my mind. Since owning the Motorola V80 I have given the handset nothing but praise. This is for good reason, it is without a doubt a phone that incorporates unique design with various useful features. However I would recommend the V600 for durability purposes alone ... I say this as earlier this afternoon I removed the V80 from my pocket to check for missed calls to realise that the joystick had snapped off! Now pleas bear in mind that I take great care of my belongings and that my V80 has never been dropped once! So for me to find the joystick hidden in the depths of my jeans was rather annoying to say the least! >=( From this I would imagine with enough floor impacts or knocks the V80 could suffer dramatic consequences ... Basically it would seem that the rubber surround of the joystick can rip, thus the green cover you use to navigate with comes away, leaving you with a smaller joystick and a view of the phone's internal PCB boards :0 I'm really hoping that the retailer from whom I bought the phone from will refund me with a credit note, which I will probably put towards the new Motorola V3 or summat =/ So I would probably choose the safety of the V600, as the screen and joystick are covered by the clam shell design. -Picture Messaging and WAP settings can be downloaded via www.hellomoto.com - Choose your country and select 'Operator Settings'. You may need to sign up, but after completing this fill out the required details and the settings will be sent to your phone! -Ken: The quality of the MP3 ringtone depends on the bitrate at which the MP3 has been compressed to. Many of the supplied ringtones on the V80 that are pre-installed are 48Kbps, whereas your standard MP3 could be 128 to 192Kbps. However because of this a full length song does take up a large amount of space. So it is worth using a mp3 editor to cut the song into a segment =)

I have had the v80 for 2 weeks and I have had a major issue with it unlocking when closed after an sms is received or if you miss a call. The external buttons on the phone are easily knocked in your bag once unlocked. So far my phone has managed to reply to 6 sms messages and delete an entry from my phone book. No response from Motorola on this one and Orange couldn't help either. Any one else experiencing this problem? (Check your outbox!).

Hello all, I have the v80 and i dont like the fact that i had to configure the wap browser myself ,but thats the price you pay when you want a phone that is over priced( so they throw in a headset) and isnt available in your ountry yet. I also have the v600 its great the bluetooth headset also works with that phone. can anyoone help me configure the aim settings? otherwise the phone is great, but im just waiting for the messaiah of text messaging phones (a630) now that i think about it, will i have the same problems with that phone??????

sup, I got T-mobile, it works great but i gues the data features like email and sending pictures is locked because its made for a different country. I spent hours on the phone with T-mobile tech going through the settings and motorolla won't help because I'm not supposed to have it here in usa yet. I got a V80 10 days ago and I need to know if anyone who has had a V80 for a while has had any problems with the rotating screen? I need to know how strong it is.Some duffus that was looking at the phone tried to force it closed in the wrong direction and now the screen section feels a bit loose. When a rhythm light session ends the settings return to default, although your sensitivity level should remain =) If you close the phone before the settings can be applied the rhythm lights may not become active. Even though you have to set the time period and pattern for every light display you can create a shortcut on the V80's home screen or via the left/right softkeys. Glad your impressed with the V80 though! :P

Man, that question (whats better - SE K700, N6230, Moto V80 etc) has been asked sooo many times in this forum, if you take the time to look back you will see how people have tried to answer the question as best they can - but it's mostly their opinion which doesn't make it correct. My advice is too read all the reviews of the phones you have selected and find out for yourself which phone best suites your needs and requirements....this is the Moto V80 forum so we will all say the V80 rules. If you have a question or view regarding this phone then feel free to voice it....but these comparison questions are basically unanswerable.....as people in each forum will have a biased opinion!

-The phone itself is difficult to stratch when in contact with everyday objects. Although to be honest I have never tried to mark the finish ;) The piano black does fingerprint easily, but nothing a wipe with your t-shirt won't resolve. -The keypad characters are integrated into the buttons themselves so to let the backlight through. There also seems to be a laquer of some sort covering the buttons. I cannot see them wearing off at all. -Never used the SE K700 so cannot comment on camera quality. Sorry =/ -Haven't downloaded ringtones from any websites. The ringtones supplied on the phone can be set to a range of volumes, one of which is very loud =) I also use mp3 ringtones that I have edited, so I can increase the amplitude to heighten the volume levels if required. All in all ringtones are loud, but as the speaker is positioned on the back of the phones case, if the speaker is in contact with clothing the ringtone can become muffled and quiet. You can still hear the phone though ... -Reception is great! Although it depends on where you are =) -For the first couple of charges the phone will drain quickly. This is all part of the Li-Ion conditioning process. Depending on how much you use the phone standby time can vary. I have deactivated the status light and screensaver so after a set period of time the phone looks as if it has turned itself off. It hasn't, but this way the battery lasts longer! I think its been 2-3days and the V80 is on 4/6 (6 being full capacity) Hope that helps!

TO IKEMI Thanks for the reply bro. Quite true with Joystick will face some problem. Presently holding SE T610 but the joystick is very easy to press and sensitive, press up or down to scroll for sms will be so sensitive that it takes it as you press centre of it and action. But I don't know whether V80 have this sensitive problem as T610 cause understand that the joystick for V80 is more difficult to scroll up or down and hope can eliminate this sensitive problem

Steven: The V80 is only capable of playing back downloaded videos, not recording them direct from the integrated camera. To be honest I doubt that the 6.5Mb capacity would last long with such a feature! The V80 also has no means of memory expansion, although because of this the unit itself is as small as the clam shell Motorola MPx200 ... Dave: It's the ultimate pulling tool!? I've gotta give that a try sometime! :D lol DL: Lots of lights! Although you cannot access some of them, mainly the 'white' light that activates upon the receival of a text message. However there are various other colours, colour patterns and fades/effects that are pre-set. It would be cool if someone can devise a programme (Through Bluetooth perhaps?) where the user could program their own light patterns :P The keypad is much better than I originally expected. Texting is easy, this coming from an owner who has replaced his Nokia 6800 with flip-out QWERTY keyboard! It takes time to get used to 'what key does this' etc But the predictive messaging is very accurate. As for the navigation stick I have had no problems in terms of durability. I do find that sometimes when I want to scroll up I inadvertently push down, which accesses the highlighted option. A little niggle, but otherwise the interface is incredibly easy allowing for many options to be performed.

K700i is awesome, but sony-ericsson it seems has tried to squash everything in and really have keys on the phone that are really small for guys with big fingers (like myself), but anyone with small fingers will find it great. I like the motorola V80, but it has a few problems with durability, joystick mainly (as one of my workmates found out). 7610.....exellent phone, only downfall is its size. If you are after a small phone, don't go this one, but the features are great. Great pics too. All good phones though.

No problem :) For the past three years I have used Nokia mobile phones due to the simple user interface. Upon switching to the Motorola I had no trouble at all navigating around the various features that the phone has to offer. You probably won't find it as difficult as everyone makes the operating system out to be! Enjoy your new V80 :P

Indeed. You can watch downloaded videos, but not actually create your own. The features of the V80 are similar, if not identical to the V600. The piano black finish does fingerprint quite easily and no cloth is supplied. However I have found my t-shirt to work effectively :P

The V80 is produced from plastic, although saying that there is no flex in case or squeaking when I'm using my handset. The shiny black surface looks very sophisticated whilst the platinum trim does look like it is made from a metal, even though it is not. Anyone else viewing phone not aware of the V80 wouldn't realise that there are lights beneath the trim! :P

In regards to configuring the supplied Bluetooth headset: -Hold down the largest button on the headset for approximately 5 seconds, until the 'M' symbol continuously flashes blue. -Hold down both volume keys for approximately 6 seconds or until the 'M' logo remains fully lit. It should no longer be flashing. -Search for Bluetooth devices via the V80's menu options. -The phone will find 'Headset 820' or similar. You will then be asked for a pin code. Type in: 0000 -Done :D ----- Recently I received my V80 and it has exceeded all my expectations. Before purchasing I had a difficult time deciding between either this handset or the V600, which seems to be a little more 'business' orientated in terms of aesthetical design. However upon arrival of the V80 I was surprised at how small and light the handset is! The design of the phone definitely stands out from the crowd and oozes build quality. So far I have had many a positive moment about various aspects of the phone, especially focusing on the excellent screen quality. The only downside I can see so far is the fact that to connect the V80 to your computer you require a Bluetooth USB dongle and software. This in turn results in more money spent! Even though you receive a Bluetooth headset with the V80 (Worth �60-70) I would've rather opted for the software, which to me is far more useful ... Other than that the V80 is a top phone! The situational lights are cool too ;)

I got my V80 a week ago and Im still findin it the greatest phone Ive ever had. I used to have the V70 and love they kept the swivel function plus now with the lights and polo ringtines just finishs it off nicely great touch by moto to add the blue tooth for free as well.

i just bought this fone yesterday and im totally blown away...and so r my friends. Every time i get it out in front of people, ther is guaranteed to be someone who goes WOW! the rhythm lights r really cool too, plus the free bluetooth headset is the best. THUMBS UP TO MOTO

Hi, got me phone - its class! However i can't seem to work out how to assign a different event light to a incoming text message, does anyone know how to do this - manuals don't provide any help :( P.S. texting isn't as fast as a Nokia but all moto's are the same as they use ITAP - oh well can't be helped. Mine is ordered and i will receive it before the end of the week! Yeah klaas - very usefull coments! I have used the K700 and its features are impressive but it doesn't have the presense of the V80, the style and design - as you say Mido it stands out from the crowd, makes a change from the standard candybar or camshell versions! Also the lights around the face of the phone are simply superb! Well done Moto!

I fully recommend this phone-i have used it for a couple of weeks after replacing a Nokia 6230-the screens dont even compare, this by far is superior and so is network reception-yes the nokia does have a couple of more features but this has everything a proffesional needs including style! The rotating mechanism is truley a great work of enginering-its stlyish but doesnt compormise the durability and reliability of this phone which does stand out from the crowd! As for the software i cant complain, everything works fine and is very user friendly and i like the added security features. The GPRS is much faster than Nokia or SE-my advice to Nokia is keep your user interface the same but do something more creative about style and reliability and by that i mean something flashy but not in the way of practicality so no silly key pads or cartoon designs (or those found in nurseries)-Sony Ericsson have to do something about network reception on the 1800 & 1900 GSM, as the reception is beyond terrible which ultimately shortens battery life-finaly what i like about Motorola phones is that they remain focused on voice quality which is the best among all. I always get great reception even in weak spots and with internal ariels on ALL frequencies. Whatever people say about features such as 1 mega pixel cameras and MP3, that should not substitute: Voice quality,User interface and Build quality (durability,size,wieght,style) the MOST important things in a PHONE-this is where the V80 excels in and other V series Motorola.

I just got this and i love it exept the sms wont work and ive put the sim in my old phone and it sends and then i put another different sim in the motorola v80 and it sends the sms fine.. Its really weird, i think the sim card maybe got scratched in my old phone samsung s300 and thats whats causing it not to work in the motorola

Motorola v80 has got some fantastic features but the problem im currently facing is that my v80 goes off on its own when you close the switch blade and i have to reboot the phone or take off the battery that is when the phone will start working again.Gauteng S.africa

It is a GSM phone so it does have international roaming. Although i think networks in the states use CDMA do they not? If they all do your snookered but i am sure their will be some networks in the states that use GSM. Now there is the matter of the SIM card....you will have to buy the phone SIM free which will cost you �100's and have to register with a US network...again i don't know if thats possible - think u should post this in a general forum where people that know about the US Mobile Phone network can help you.

It can transfer pics via bluetooth. And yes it is based on the V600/500 software. So its very similar.

Strange as i thought the V80 has the same software set up as the V600, V500 models and according to a web review there was no problem transfering data to a PC via bluetooth.

hey guyz, I think you all might wan to think twice b4 you buy this phone...V80's cannot send picture via bluetooth, they have to be transfer to a pc via usb...

Yeah fantastic phone, just wished Motorola could have squeezed in a MegaPixel camera...there will be quite a few of those phones out by the end of the year...atleast my phone will still look better than them tho :)

Good stuff - i will be getting a call from orange soon then about getting my new phone. Btw it takes usually a week after the release date for the phone to come out on Orange as it needs to be branded and extra features added. Also i said "by" the end of the month not "at" - Orange never give exact dates.

The motorola v80 is not released at the end of the month. Orange confirmed the v80 will be released during june, then Phoneboxdirect.com told me the release is monday 7th june. oh yeah!

It will be released in the UK by the end of June according to Orange customer services - just wait till then - no point in spending �100's on a sim free one plus it wont have the extra features contract mobiles come with. Motorola already provide a PC - USB interface perperial for use with any of their bluetooth phones, think its about �30-�50.

It's a great phone with nice features and appearance. The only problem I have had is that when I called Motorola to inquire about V80 accessories they do not currently have any available b/c the phone is not actually supposed to be on the US market yet. They told me to expect its official release and accessories later this year unless things get pushed back. I'm pretty sure I can find some website to order accessories b/c the UK motorola has the bluetooth PC accessory I'm looking for.

I just received my Motorola V80 today and it works and looks fantastic. I had previosly held on to my V70 b/c I could not find a phone w/ up to date features that also looked well. This phone fits the bill. I went through no-air-time and the phone cost me $590 + $39 overnight delivery. I'm pretty satisfied w/ their overall service but they seem to be a very small and privately owned company b/c each time I called I spoke with one ot two people.
