I've had the phone for over 18 mths, but have had too much trouble in slow loading times, texting doing what it feels like. The phone is tough, surviving multiple drops, etc, but the screen inside keeps coming up blank if you load a photo as a wallpaper. And being in the uk, I can't download anything onto it!!!!!

This phone is terrible. Had it for 2 years, and its cracking in 4 places. The charger has to be sellotaped to the phone when charging, it doesnt have bluetooth or infrared, pc sync doesnt work, most pointless headphone socket EVER, and there is no middle pocket. Yet i love it. Its so bad its good

ive had this phone nearly 2years now, when i first got it i had a problem with it not turning on but o2 replaced it pretty quick, since then i havent had any problems its been a great phone, has quite abig screen which i love,i got it quite cheap on offer and its deffinatly worth it, the camera is alot clearer than a phone my sister has recently bought that cost �60 more! it doesnt have gagets,but for a everyday phone to use at school/college its reallly good,id buy it again :)

my nec e101 has syrvived a lot i mean it is basicly indestructable it has been in the wash and in the tumble fell off a fair ground ride and survived countless drops but last week i fell off my bike and cracked the front screen and cracked the glass i am well gutted i have had the phone for 18 months and it still works brilliant phone every thing works exept the front screen

the nec e101 isn't a bad phone. i'd recommend it if you just wanted a normal basic phone. it's quite easy to use. I've had my nec e101 for a year, and decided it hasn't got all the things for me on it. i decided to buy the nokia 6111 instead. but overall, it's quite a good phone.

I dont have any techincity problem with him.the batterry its very good, but I'm complaining for the aspect. from the outside its distroid,the coulour is not anymour like silver,and the big problem its,cz its all most brooke and I'm afraid that soon I need another phone:( about the menu...I think its good,the camera its good,the photos r looking much better then the ather phones but I can'n make pictures at night:( now.. and I'm a little unsatisfaid cz of the memory,its to little.its doesen't have infrared,bluethoot...

G Man, press Menu then select the top left icon (Settings), scroll down to Phone Modes and select it, then choose Normal Mode. If it is already in Normal Mode then something is wrong with the phone.

l bought a nec 101 for my daughter xmas 2004, it was working until xmas 2005, l couldnt return it to argos cause it had just gone over the 12 months warranty.we always had problems plugging in the charger, l think this is were the problem is. l did expect the phone to last longer. It has taken me 2 months to get this e mail address .I have been intouch with varios people, and it was only today someone gave me this web address. I have been into the o2 shop there was a charge to return it, which l wasnt happy to pay. I think the phone should have laster longer, can any one advice what to do. thank you hazel farrell

it's a great little phone and i've had mine for over a year now too! it's really nice, shame it doesn't come with a USB cable for downloading pics :( but i don't mind e-mailing them to the computer :D it can't store that many pics unfortunately, but still, i think it was a great bargain for �45!!! lol

Hi I'm desperate for a new battery for my e101. Does anybody know where i can definately get one! I've been let down now by three companies. Only had my phone a year and had no probs til bout 2 months ago when it went dead so went to charge it and it wouldn't charge. Has anyone got their e101 to work in the USA at all? I have a couple of friends who couldn't receive or make calls/texts out there. They were in Las Vegas and New York, hardly the places for poor signals. I used mine in Thailand with no problems but the USA is different. The phone is supposed to work there but then it is supposed to have pc sync.....

Julius, the caller must be in the Phone memeory, not SIM. In Phone there is a line to add Caller Picture. Just add the photo ref there and it will work.

hi, i got my e101 back in may and had a few teething problems which managed to sort themselves out ok, since then has been fine, until yesterday when i woke up and it had the inbox full icon on the top of the screen, so i went through and deleted a few messages to free up the inbox, the icon reappeared and keeps doing so everytime i delete a message even though there are over 10 free spaces. i was recieving texts yesterday but havent for over 24 hours now, the icon even reappears when i turn the phone off and on again, can anyone help or tell me how to fix this? much appreciated.

Mat, just go into Setting and then Phone Modes. You can select what you need. Meeting Mode is silent but leaves vibrate on.

something that may be useful, for anyone who doesnt know.. i worked this out a while ago. when on the main (opening screen) if you hold down the 'up' arrow for approx. 3secs, you can quickly change the mode of your phone, to turn off all alerts, this changes the phone to 'silent' with vibrate ON. to reverse this follow the same by holding down the 'up' arrow! =D

rachel, about your 'incomplete message' problem, i had this before. i think it happens wen someone with a different phone model sends you a msg longer than the regular 160 characters, for me before, it took quite a long time for the rest of the message to come through, turning your phone off and on again might help, and if it doesnt come through within another couple of hours, try texting the person who texted you asking them to send the 'incomplete message' again, or else just delete it and the message symbol on the top of your screen will disapear!! hope this helps!

Yes, and you can also make the T9 (predictive text) default to on by going into Phone/Settings/T9. Once in predictive you can add punctuation etc by pressing the # key, that will bring up a page of symbols. Scroll to the one you want and press the Menu key to add it.

You can use predictive texting - when about to create new text when in blank screen press the # button for a few secs and at bottom of scren you will see either T9 on or T9 off so you can switch it off even if in middle of sending a text.

I think Frank meant he couldn't read the texts because the writing is too small. It's not possible to increase the size as far as I know. Also re the zooming, from memory I think it only works if you are on a low resolution, in high res nothing happens.

When you go into camera mode either press the up arrom to zoom in and down to zoom out, bizarrely you can only do this to 1 photo then come out and go back in and do it again - or when in camera mode you can click on options and then change various things including photo size..... Re received texts you should see a little envelope on bottom right of screen and then click the @ sign to read them or go thro the menu's to messages and then to inbox and read them from there...

Aiden, it doesn't. Unfortunately it seems that NEC stopped short of finishing the pc sync feature. To get photos from your phone to your pc you must email them.....

Laura, you should be able to get a charger from here They don't list the e101 under the NEC list if you navigate via Chargers but if you navigate via NEC they are there. Hope that makes sense. I just bought a car charger from them with no problems. They also do batteries for the e101.

Graham, I assume you mean that the charger switches itself off, not the phone? If that's the case it sounds as if the battery has failed....... hunt for new one.

I have used the e101 for several months now and have been quite happy with it even taking into account the very temperamental charger. However I now have a problem that the phone starts to charge, switches itself off, starts to charge, switches itself off, etc etc etc. As a result the phone is now unusable. Any suggestions of a solution would be much appreciated and hopefully will save the phone from a trip to the dustbin.

The nec e101 is a good phone but i hav 3 faults, the java and animations are dead slow, the o2 games arcade is empty(seriously) and the amr files are only audio memo only (not ringtones) The data cable is ��� (�195.99 from fone fun shop to be exact) and it is not made by nec it is the panasonic one?????????

I'm very glad I didn't pay �89.95 for it I must say! I must admit I haven't tried ordering a charger or battery on the internet, I just saw the site showed them and assumed they were available. This site also has chargers but not batteries, might be worth a try: Argos don't know anything about what they sell, certainly not to pc sync port depth! It is obviously pointless having it without any use. Do NEC support their other phones any better or are they all treated as 'disposable'? Has your battery gone then? Would be interested to hear how you het on with trading standards, presumably NEC have a legal obligation to be able to keep the thing going for at at least 12 months? If not then Argos should give a full refund I would have thought.

I bought mine for �89.95 at Argos before Christmas. Three months later and Argos no longer sold them! Tried to order battery/charger via internet and was refunded my money and told that they can no longer be supplied. Yes I know we have to pay to download our own photographs- despite the phone having a PC sync port- NEC obviously designed this then decided to pull out before finishing development. Where you informed of this when you bought your phone? If so what do you use the PC sync port for?

Mark, I have not had any problems with my phone, and the only real complaint is that there is no download cable to transfer photos, I have to email them to myself. I get the ringtones I want for free from I don't use it for games so don't have a problem with them. You can buy batteries and chargers here: My E101 cost �44.95 from Argos and overall I consider it a bargain, I have only had it since January but so far so good....

Nice design, very poorly supported with a lot of people sadly 'duped' into buying this phone by NEC and Argos. I have just been infomed that chargers/batteries can no longer be purchased for this phone. Sadly when your battery expires the phone is useless. My phone is only 7 months old. I am pursuing this further through trading standards.

i dont recieve texts for hours or days at a time (longest was 3 days before i recieved texts)I live in a resonably weak signal area but my sister is on o2 and she has full bars, i have two, but that makes no difference for even in strong signal areas in town, i still might not recieve the text(s) anyone had a simmiliar problem or know how it can be resolved? thanks in advance xXx

You get them from o2 website go to o2 active along on to pof page and click on it and from there you should be able to get the settings sent to your phone.

Been using my E101 since Xmas, 5 weeks ago it broke just below the hinge, both retailer and manufacturer won't look at repairing it claiming I must have dropped it. Argos want �185 for repair, needless to say it is being passed to trading standards!!

I got my mms messages fixed eventually by emailling o2 from their contacts on their website (www.o2.co.uk) turned out that the phone needed some settings sent to it. My phone also wouldnt turn on 1 day but after taking out the battery and sim card then putting them back in it worked fine - no idea what was wrong though. hope this helps!

for free ringtones go to then go to polytones. it will only cost you about 2p on o2, you have to download via WAP. folow instructions. there ar no hidden charges. when u select the tone type its "midi nokia compatable" hope that helps.

Just bought this phone a few days ago as my old nokia's battery died all the time. So far I must say this phonr is great for the money, it works very well, takes a bit of time to get used to. You need to make sure that under Phone, then Network, then connectivity you have it set at O2 WAP GPRS, won't work if set under any of the others.

You can send picture messages and so far I've had no prbs with my phone! Few things I'd like to change a bit but no phone is ever gonna be perfect! So for the �60 it is ok.

Greg, the only way I know is to press the * key until the keypad goes into numerical mode ie 123 appears at the top and bottom of the display. Bit of a pain as having typed the number you then have to press * key to get back to the letters....

I agree Gwen, had no real problems with mine, biggest gripe is having to send photos to my PC if I want to use them for anything but really it is just a gimmick for me anyway, not a serious use. Also the battery doesn't seem to last long. I think the phone appears bad because most people only write with their problems, not praise. It does all I want, is very small, and was �45. Perfect!

I think that this fone is the best you could expect to get for its price... But from the messages on this site, it seems terrible. I got this on new years day with my christmas money, and it cost me 45 pounds. Since then, I cant think of any problems with it that'd make me really hate it (touch wood), so I think that it seems as if NEC have a manufacturing problem which means that they make some good phones and some bad ones. I guess it's just luck of the draw...

ok 3 days Ive had the phone now - plenty of free ringtones downloaded but only 1 game available and that was dangermouse and then it wasnt in my 1 free game quota because of its price - the message alert is rubbish - often just the vibration goes off. the camera is as good as I would have expected but the sending message text font is too small and when changed it often switches straight back all in all i believe its value for money

Yes, sending them to your pc by email works fine, but I agree it's annoying that it costs us to get our own photos. Other than that one gripe I have no problems with the phone. Have downloaded free ringtones that I wanted and it seems to do everything else as it should. Worked well in Thailand recently.

i have emailled photos from my phone to computer. you go to send an mms message, select email when sending, insert your email address which you can access from your computer and the photo will be sent to your computer via email. this costs the normal mms price though which is quite annoying

-PC Sync!- i have investigated this as there is ythe sync to pc function and after contacting O2 and NEC numerous times i have finaly been given an answer. there is no data cable for the nec e101, there is the function to sync but this was placed on the phone when the software was installed by nec, o2 then have the option to bring out or develop a data cable or a way to sync. but o2 have decided not to. so answer to your question and many others is no you can not connect this phone to the PC. the only way to transfer your pics is to send then via an email address but im not 100% sure how to do this sorry. hope this helps Louise

Andy, I tried sending an image to each of my email accounts and had the same problem until I sent it to the O2 account created when I registered the number on the O2 site. You can then either save it or forward that email (with the image intact) to your favoured email address. Bit of a pain but at least it works. At some point I'll do a review of this phone, but it seems like a rushed job - nice phone, poorly supported.

I got the NEC e101 as a present from my parents and thought it was very good for the price, the camera was fine and text were fine, but after a few months the charger broke and woudl not charge and it would not turn on any longer it only remained on as long as my finger was on the on button. This is not an ideal way to use a phone.

i got the nec e101 as a little pressie for myself i dont eaarn much an this fone seemed to be the ideal budget camras fone for me. i got my fone home it was fine for the first few months. then things started to go wrong. i cant send txts over 3 pages long an when i try to the cursor goes to the start of the txt and writes over what i have already typed, and none of it makes any sense. also at times when i try to send a message my fone freezes for about ten minutes. i also found it very hard to get a decent ringtone for this fone. apart from this i have had no other problem. can anyone help me!

My final opinion on the NEC e101. Today I was sent two very important texts at 2.15 pm. I received nothing until I became suspicious of my phones silence. I put the sim card into my old Nokia and the messages came through instantly at8.10 pm. This proves that the phone is the problem and not the network. This has cost me a great deal of money for a contract which I have now lost. Thank you NEC. This phone is without doubt the most useless peice of rubbish on the market and should be withdrawn as soon as possible. I paid �89 for it and have just thrown it into the bin.

I was SO fed up with my phone locking - I,ve sent it to A Novo in Norwich to see if they can fix it. A few friends liked the look of the phone - but I've advised them to buy something else. Has anyone missed a schedule on the e101? I missed the call when it phoned me about an appointment I had entered and now I have a message across the screen 'missed scheduler' and an icon for this. The manual doesn't say how to get rid of these from screen! Love the phone apart from this.

Andy. re the one note text alert. I have the same problem. Try changing the ringtone to a smaller one (you can see how many kb's each tone is)I changed to a smaller ringtone and now get about five seconds of tone instead of 1 millisecond. Big deal eh?

Owned this phone 3 months and my Phone keeps rebooting. The pictures folder has started to create blank images which have no name and are dated 00.00.2000 and can't be deleted and are filling my phone with useless data. I E-mailed NEC they didn't want to Know, passing the buck to O2 who also don't want to know. There is no after sales support with this phone. Can't find any codes to reset the Eeprom to it's default setting's as this could help. Nec don't have these codes.

u hav maybe changed the txt alert u can change it by goin 2: menu, settings, phone modes, select whatever phone mode u want thn, down 2 change settings, ringer, message, then select whatever setting u want. hope this helps.

There is not anywhere you can get games that I know apart from the GPRS O2 active games download - and the only games there compatible with this phone are Danger Mouse and Rubik's Cube. Even these are an extortionate �4.99 - it's not worth it unless they would be to your tastes!

No thanks. The signal(02) is virtually non-existent. Messages take up to 2 days to arrive or just dont arrive at all. No signal inside my house or my office so a bit of a waste of money and I have missed a lot of important calls.. The phone looks ok and the camera works fine but as a phone it's the pits. I am back with my old Nokia 3310 and happy.

So when you flip the top open the lens it pointing away from you when you look at the screen. The'shutter' button is on the right hand side of the phone, about level with the number 3 button.

Callum, I have downloaded several ringtones and they have all arrived pretty well instantly. Did you select the correct type? I went for the SP Midi Nokia compatible ones and they work fine. Can't think of any other reason for a problem.

Derek, I didn't have to alter any settings or anything on mine, it is just as it came out of the box. Also on O2. Message/Create/MMS/Insert/Insert photo (then select photo)/Options/Send/Options/Phonebook (select the person you want & send). I haven't received any pics yet but I assume it works OK but nobody has sent me anything....sad!

Lou 2 get the ringtones u have downloaded to ring you need 2 set the ringtone as either a phonebook tone or message tone etc then u need 2 ring from a number u have in your phonebook or wat eva u have chosen

Lou, it seemed to take a few goes before I could get the right tune to set as ringtone but it did it OK in the end. I think it only worked when I did it as Phonebook calls, but I am not certain of that. I did My Data/Sounds/Options/Set as ringtone/Phonebook calls. You can get free ringtones from www.free-ringtones-free-logos.com/ Not sure if you will think they are better then O2 or not but there is a good choice and no charge.

Hiya I am having trouble with my ringtones - I downloaded a few but cant get them to ring. The tones that are supplied on the phone are soooo annoying - can anyone help!! They are saved in the sounds part of the phone and i have tried changing it by mode, settings, ringer and by sounds then set as ringtone. Thanks for the reply Callum! And to everyone - i have a Motorola V600 and have sent ringtones from this phone to the E101 - which work!!! And re MMS - i think you have to send an MMS first before you can receive any. Worked for me. Tried to unlock the phone however, and the code is not available as yet. Ended up giving the phone away and reverting back to my Motorola. Is a nice little phone though!! To the people who arent getting good signals (showing sos all the time) you can but signal boosters online - they are about �5.00 - try that.

I got the Siemens C65 in the end. At least I know where I stand now. The NEC is good value, but texting wasn't exactly a joy (I ended up closing the message half of the time as the keys were so close together!). So back with a Siemens now, and it's easy to use, easy to text and feels like it might last for longer than a few months. And I can charge it! lol

Vicki, sounds as if the phone is duff not the charger. Mine never gets hot when charging whether it is switched on or off. The manual says to charge with it off preferably but can be on if you need the phone working. I have had no problems with crashes at all, I think you were just unlucky with yours.

I've had enough! I took the phone back to Argos for a replacement charger, but they didn't have any. I went to Woolies who found a returned e101 and gave me the charger from that. It doesn't work either! NEC don't like repairing their phones, well they seemed very unhelpful on the phone. Worse still, the damn thing crashes on me now as well. So I am taking it back to Argos, and buying a Motorola C651.

Lovely little flip, sexy finish and all the features I would always go for :-) yes, there's a BUT coming :-( the camera needs a lot of light to take a decent pic and the texting is a bit weird to get used to, especially after being used to a Nokia (but then, that's ALWAYS the way!!) what the camera lacks the composer makes up for tho', I could write a fugue! Sum up? A pretty good fone ;-)

gaggin4abeer the camera zoom changes with the Photo size, in camera mode go to options then to photo size, VAG 640x480 there is no zoom, QVGA 230x240 there is zoom x2, and QQVGA 160x120 there is zoom x4 hope this helps

my nec e101 is a brill phone but some times it is rubbish because when someone is trying to phone me or im trying to phone someone i cant hear any thing happening but when im phoning someone their phone can ring but they cant hear me talk and i cant hear it ringing. please can someone help or tell me if they have this problem thanx tasha (nd thanx callum the answer to my last question)

gaggin4abeer, I think it is because you have the picture on the max resolution. If you reduce the resolution (picture size) to the min it will zoom twice. See page 67 in the manual, notes on the RH side.

Has anyone actually got their e101 to pc sync using infrared (IrDA I think the term is). If so I would love to know what type of IrDA you used. I sent an e-mail to NEC asking how to do it as the manual doesn't say, but I only got the standard reply and was told to ask O2. Thanks Sorry gaggin4beer but my zoom seems to work OK. In camera mode pressing up once does 2x then again for 4x. Down takes you back. Not what you want to hear I know!

Kate, the external LED screen can display date, time, battery life, signal strength, and various other symbols depending on what settings the phone has activated. It can also be set to display a classic - style clock.

Vicky, also to add that to transfer pictures to a PC, your PC will need Infared. Once you have this, just select 'PC sync' in the 'Accessory' menu. If it works then the computer should notice the mobile's Infared beam and synchronize.

Vicky, to set up the Caller Photo I.D., you must have the contact u want to hav a photo of in the 'phone' part of the phonebook. (to get it here from the SIM part, select 'copy to mobile' from the options menu of the contact). Select 'edit' on the options menu. Scroll down and you will find a box named 'caller picture'. Then simply change this to your desired photo.

Thanks so much - i went back to woolies and after some hassle and arguing over whether they actually had a price promise or not, they agreed to pay the price difference. Argos do still sell the phone. Its a great deal and a nifty little phone (even if it cant be used through the pc - shame about that bit)

G4AB, they are talking bollx mate.they tried to say that to me si i rang cusomer services at head office who sorted it foe me. look on website www.woolworths.co.uk and the price match is fully explained on there. head office will give you a ref number to take into store. do not stand for anything else but a full refund of difference.

Go on to phone modes, and whatever mode is selected click on options - change settings then scroll down and key tones is the 4th in the list. Then just click "select" to turn them off. Hope this helps :)

I purchased the phone yesterday from Woolies (69.99). I'm very pleased with it and find it easy to use, but I have one problem with it. I charged the battery last night and whilst it is plugged in to charge, the keypad on the phone goes red hot. Does anyone else have this, and does it get better? It certainly makes me send texts quicker!

I was clever and waited until after xmas to buy this phone just incase it went down in price - and it did! It was �45 from Argos! BARGIN!! I am very impressed with it - especially the quality of the photo's. I'm slowly adapting to it after having Nokia's for years! However, the ringtones really aren't the best!! I was wondering if anyone knew where i can get free ringtones from?? I have looked at a number of websites on the net but most of them you get one free ringtone and then you get subscribed to them and end up paying upto �2.50 a week - which is a bit of a rip off! Is there anywhere where you can get free ringtones?? Also, i have found a few sites where you order them through WAP and type in the URL and then a code they give you. However, i haven't got a clue how to use WAP! How do you type in a URL to go to a specific address? I can't seem to find out how. I can't get past O2 Active. Please help! Thanks xx

Before I start, thanks Colin for all your help and support with this phone. A couple of other things I am not sure of. I have programmed my voicemail number into the phone and it says in the manual that you can press "1" and it will dial your voicemail as it used to with the Nokia, but it doesn't seem to work, does anyone have any solutions. The other point is that when sending a text message and selecting a number from the phone book, it automatically defaults to "complete" which lists numbers on both the phone and sim card. Is there anyway of changing this setting to it being either one or the other as it is on the Nokia. Perhaps I am being picky after having Nokia's for 7 years. I like this phone and has some good features but will still get a Nokia 6230 on my free upgrade with O2 when my contract is renewed in 6 weeks and that way I will have the best of both worlds.

Hi All, Back to the land of the living after to much wine, food and song over the festive period. Vicky, First you need to take a photo of your caller and store it in the �Photos� or �Pictures� folder (under �My data,). Then either add or edit your caller details in your phone book. Scroll down to the �Caller Picture� line, Select �Options� and add your picture. Then �Save� to attach the picture to the caller number. Make sure your caller details are saved in the �Phone Memory� not the SIM memory as this gives many more caller details you can store. Clare, Don�t worry if GPRS is connected it is like broadband for a landline. You only pay for data transferred and if you don�t connect to O2 active or similar then you won�t use any of your credit. The PDP is like dial up internet access for a landline and will only switch in if GPRS is out of range AND you try and connect to O2 active. The screen timer seems to be fixed and like you I think it�s a bit short. Both displays can be changed for contrast and brightness, also the external display can be set up in slightly different ways, it�s all in the phone settings (Key 1 from your menu). The reason it fades so quick is to conserve battery power. Cake, You can make the text slightly larger but only while you are typing the current message, as soon as you exit or start a new message it reverts to the small text again (very hard on my old eyes). With regards to the full stop, one trick I found is if you press and hold the key down a small list of the digits that each key types pops up and a small black cursor jumps along the list until it reaches the digit you need, then release the key to insert it in your text. Weird but it works. Dialling from the phone book is really weird. I am used to an old 3210 Nokia and just did phonebook, search, hit key, select and OK to dial (easy). Now you do most of the above but when you find you number it seems you have to hit the �Off Hook� key to dial the number. You can also use the �Off Hook� key to bring up a list of your last dialled numbers, scroll down to you reach the number you need, then don�t do what you think and press the �Options� soft-key, hit �Off Hook� again and it will dial the number. Good luck.

Bought this phone today and overall, I am pleased with it. It seems to be permanently connected to GPRS or PDP(whatever that is). Can anyone tell me how to turn it off as don't want to have a huge phone bill. Also the main LCD screen turns itself off after a couple minutes of using it. Can this be altered? Also the screen on the front, the time and date don't appear to be very bright. Can this be changed at all? I am used to Nokia's so it is taking a little time getting used to.

Just a quick �Happy Christmas� to everyone and to those who got their phone today I hope you like it as much as I do. To Don, No charger as yet and as NEC were not going to release the model until next year (2005) it has probably not reached the shops yet. I want a �hands free kit and a charger' but none of my local shops had even seen the phone and O2 technical support have not listed it on their site yet. Most of the details I�ve found from a European site (had to blag my way in) but it�s the only one that has ring tones and wallpaper for the 101 (no they won�t send it to your phone, wrong country!). Good one Lee. Well must get back to the Grandchildren, keep safe over the new year.

I think that this mobile is a grat phone for if you want to go small. It is a small silver mobile shaped liked a clamshell and has a camera on it. It has 13 ringtones and more if you download some. The camera quality on it is grat and it is just the phone that everyone will love if they see it.

Katy, This is based on my messages. The storage space is 2003 Kb for messages. It works out about 3 words = 1 Kb. The average message I receive is 20 words. That would work out at about 250 to 300 messages assuming they are SMS not MMS. Less if your messages are longer. One would also assume this space is used by Drafts and outgoing as well. The manual is not much help.

To answer Lee, Yes you can add a photo id to a caller. If you refer to page 72 of your manual it tells you how. But the crucial bit is the fact you must store the contact details in the phone memory not the SIM memory. The SIM can only store a limited amount of details not the full details as you can with the phone memory. To answer Vicky, Yes you can see the time all over the world but it will always be your local time at home (smile), It does not have a �world� time clock if that is what you are asking. i.e. you cannot have multiple times stored at once, only your local time. You could however change the time to your new local time if you wished it�s only a few key clicks. To Gary, I�m still working on that myself will let you know if I find out anything. Some extra bits you all may like to know. If you want to send and receive true emails you can either open an O2 email account (free) or use a BT or Yahoo account if you already have one. The phone will then connect to the account and you can send and receive emails from the account using the phone and O2 active. When typing you emails always press and hold the # key to turn on T9 text input (it seems to be off by default even if you set it to 'default on' in the phone settings menu (don�t ask me why) Be careful when you set up your email account with O2 as it will send a �welcome� message to your on-line account you specify and one to your phone, both in HTML. The on-line one is fine the phone one is 23 pages of HTML and unreadable (nice one O2). I am still trying to get the �PC Sync� bit to work. I think I have found out how (it�s on the web site if you log in), but they have not set it up for our phone yet. Will try Customer services and see if I can get any joy from them. Will keep you updated if I can.

Amy, If you look at the left side of the picture opposite you will see a small black mark, this is the attachment point for a wrist strap (not supplied) carry on around the phone in line with this mark and you will find the camera lens. The shutter button is on the right hand edge of the keyboard clamshell. Just for your info the camera is not bad. It has 10 second self timer, Twilight mode, Close Up mode, Rotate picture, Photo Size, Brightness, Image Quality, Effects and Flicker Control (for fluorescent lights) Effects are Normal/Monochrome/Sepia/ and a sort of Bluish tint.

Just an update for all you readers. The dimensions given in the specs are for the handset closed and without the case (it also does not include the height of the antenna, add another 20mm for this). Not shown and not mentioned is the fact it comes with a soft leatherette type case. The case has a �button� clip on the back that clips into the separate belt clip (with a press lock). So far no news on how to download to a PC but if you have an internet account (you must if your reading this) you can send the picture via email to your account. Yes it does cost but if you have GPRS working it takes about 30 sec to send one 640 * 480 picture. It�s one way of preserving an important picture if you need to. The camera is best used on it�s side (in landscape mode), gives a more natural picture and the camera shutter button is now at the top and easy to press. Oh yes and because it is Tri Band don�t get it to close to your computer when searching for the network or downloading etc, causes hell with the screen and sound. One useful thing is the ability to switch off the �Flip� for answering and ending calls so you can open the phone and see who is calling then send to voicemail (Parent?) if you wish (or answer if it�s Grandma). Otherwise a good all round phone and no problems so far.

I bought this phone from Argos two days ago (it�s not in the catalogue but your local store may have it). As Bob said it�s very good for it�s price. I have found a couple of niggles, 1. The manual says you can sync to a PC but does not say how and no cable is supplied. 2. In the phone book it seems impossible to add letters to a postcode, only numbers. 3. the T9 text input while good is not as intuitive as the Nokia text input. 4. The �end� key is right next to the right navigation key and it is very easy (for a man with big fingers) to hit both keys at the same time and exit from what you were doing without doing anything. To answer Helen, yes you can add a photo id for callers (and an individual ring tone or a group ring tone etc.). Otherwise I found it easy to use and the GPRS worked fine. Pay as you go pricing is not bad on O2 either.
