The first mobile phone of my life, the great NOKIA 2300 which I brought in 2005. Now its been 13 years since my whole family is using it. I think it was one of the initial phones having a FM radio as a feature & I was attracted towards it. Its been a really very nostalgic journey with this sturdy candybar phone. I have always taken great care of it & still today it's in mint condition. Today we are bombarded with super displays, notches & waterdrops, high rams, great cameras, fingerprint & face detection sensors, etc but these sturdy & durable yet simple Nokias were also legends in its league because they focused on our basic necessities like making calls, texting & durable handsets which a granddad can literally gift it to his grandson. And talking about its strong durable built quality, NASA once launched it against an oncoming giant asteroid about to hit earth & the Nokia shattered the asteroid into pebbles. Ha! Well humor aside these are the pros & cons of this handset: Pros: > A great simple feature phone made by NOKIA when actually they were NOKIA, the kings of mobiles. > Great built quality to last for a lifetime. > Good thickness of 20mm to give a good grip in your hand. (I really miss those brickphones). > FM radio. Yes it was a great thing then :-) Cons: > There is only one con that as time passed, we realize that such phones were so simple & meaningful just like the days when they were made unlike the chaotic world in which we now live :-(

And I also still use Nokia 2300!! It's now year 2014(!) and, yes, I'm still using this phone every day. The phone is about 10 years old!... Yeah, I got an android smartphone too, but in several ways a smartphone aren't that handy, in simple using, like 2300... Shure, 2300 has some really bad functions/details, ok, BUT the GOOD things with 2300 is, anyway, SO PRACTICAL and NICE, in many ways! And the design is "Woohoo, Yeehaaa, Yeah-Yeah"..!! "These were the good Nokia phone making days..." ;-) Nowadays Nokia phones are quite different, and phones like Nokia 2300 doesn't appear again. Or?... I also using the built-in radio (with handfree), and WHICH PHONES - simple or advanced, old or new - have, for example, such a super-QUICK channel change function, strong FM receiving and so simple, comfortable, clear and natural radio audio/sound??... Ok, not "Mega-Hifi" of course, but sooo natural, professional sound/audio... And - not forget - the Extremely UNIQUE ring signal sounds!! ("PING"!) Shure, not every people like that sound, but for us who like it.... YES!! :-) And you can create your own special "PING" signals thats comfort for You. Just ONE "PING" is really hard beating in it's sound, and that is really practical(!) - you hear ONE "PING" clearly even if you are in other rooms... DOES ANY OTHER NOKIA PHONE HAS THAT (GREAT) KIND OF "PING" SOUND!???... Not what I know. (Do YOU know any??) And the buttons have a really unique and beautiful look, and are working good (if you are careful with the phone, of course). This phone are not for people who "always wants the latest, newest phones - no matter what". I suppose. :-) One of The Top Nokia Classic phones, in my opinion...though it didn't sell so much, I think.

I have been using Nokia 2300 for really many years & stil use it! Of cos, I EVEN use other - generally - more advanced phones. I use 2300 every day, becos: * The PHONE SIGNALS are really effective, special, fun - & unique! ...A uniqe "PING"-sound!! I like that sound! I havent heard such sounds from any other phones..! (U can especially notice that if u compose ur own signals in "Composer"!) * The RADIO has really better receiving/reception than many, many other phones (that I tested)! Even better than very new phones I think. And! U can change FM-channel extremely quick(!) with the handfree-button. Thats very nice when u are outside, & for example are riding a bike or so & want to change channels very QUICKLY. Its more quick than "a flash from the sky", hahaha! Yes, even many other Nokia's are clearly slower (but for example Nokia 2310 got the same "type" of radio. That phone is, in some ways, related to 2300. (2310 is a phone that is better in some ways than 2300, but in some ways worse.)). Ok - 2300 has no stereo radio, but I mostly like to listen with only one-ear-handsfree, so it doesnt matter. I can listen to stereo radio some other time. One bad thing: the maximum *low volume* on the radio is a bit too high... And thats not good. Not good by Nokia... (I myself - by my "technical compentent" - changed the hearphone part to a hearphone that need more power to give sound. So the sound went lower. But who can do that? Maybe all handsfrees should have a little volume-knob, so everyone can change volume without pressing a button on the PHONE). The radio also could have more FM-channels memory than only 10 channels. But 10 channels is quite much anyway. :) One more good thing about the radio: It has a very natural sound! * Ok, the phone hasnt the best memory & battery-time, but(!) u CAN have another (kind of) phone with you, so that 2300 not are in big work so much time. * The type of handsfree for 2300 CAN - nowadays - be a bit hard to find. U cant buy those newer kind of Nokia handsfrees that LOOKS like they are fitting 2300 (cos Nokia has changed the ways that the power goes through the contac). U can find a right handsfree in second hand shop. Oh, its maybe even possible to find some of them in places where people leave their old electronical return things. People even throw away good 2300-batteries!) * I like the buttons on 2300! First I thought they looked bad, but nowadays I find them really good, & I can write sms without look at the keypad. Some other phones with good buttons - in my opinion: Nokia 3310, 6210, 3510, 3100, 1100, 1110, 1600, Sony Ericsson J10i2 (Elm)... I dont like buttons who not gives a feeling in the finger that I have typed the RIGHT key. For example 3120 & many new Nokia phone in this year, 2013. * One of bad thing is that the digital clock in standby is NOT like Nokia 1100's. Thats pretty bad. I think the standby-clock in 1100 is really fantastic. Its very clearly to watch. I guess Nokia wanted to make some "extra special" stanby-clock in 2300, but in my opinion they went "to far" in that case, cos the "stanby"-clock in 2300 isnt in my taste. * Another bad thing. In my 2300 ("V. 3.42 28-01-04 (c) NMP" - when I press *#0000#) the writing in sms goes a bit "bad" when the sms is longer than 160 letters - in some situations letters turn to numbers - & many other strange things. Though this is only happen in so called T9-writing. And u can only type about 3x160 letters (3 sms) at one time. Not so good. Nokia 2310 does 5x160 (5 sms). That is be better. Too bad that many people has had much trouble with "bad firmware" & hang ups & so with 2300. Not fun... Though my 2300's is quite ok. I really like the design of 2300! Nokia dont do phones with that kind of look any longer. Too bad!... And the phone is also quite small. I think phones like Nokia 2300, 2310, 1100, & so on, got a very comfortable size. But - for example - such phones as Nokia 5310 Xpress Music are TOO thin. Its not comfortable with that size I think. (If u are technical competent, 5310 is also extremely diffically to open in a more ways if u want to open more than only the cover of battery-/sim-card...) So in short words - Nokia 2300 got: Fantastic unique ring-signals, & got a really "pro" (mono) radio! And much more. Ok - the phone did not at all(!) reach the selling top - like Nokia 1100..., but I think those who like 2300 phone (if it not got big defects) are happy with it! Its really a Special mobile phone ... :)

Hi guys Nokia 2300 was my first ever mobile phone bought in year 2004 for Rs 3650! It is still running in excellent condition... Even after falling in water nd on cemented floors... I use it on 1020mAH battery so once charged lasts for 10 to 15 days.... A nice compact and lovable phone

i love this phone, its been in the family for so long, and it still works perfectly fine! battery life is great, has those sick old mono ringtones like the mexican hat song, and most importantly, SNAKE 2. wow could this phone get any better. and who cares about cameras and internet and all that, youve got a camera for taking pics, an mp3 for moosic, and a computer for the internet! 10/10, solid phone

I have Nokia 2300 for almost 5 years, excellent basic phone... First Black N White phone to have a FM.. I hav dropped it many times, its still working... Antenna very good, i only had problem with the reception if there really was a network problem. Drawback - keeps on working no matter what happens..

I dont like this phone very much - the battery life isn't good, I have to charge my phone every second day and it gets annoying. The buttons are also very difficult and uncomfortable to work on as you sometimes press one button instead of the other - the buttons all melt together on the keypad...this is really one of Nokia's worst phones.

If monochrome phones are concerned, nothing beats Siemens SL45i. 2300 was quite a pain to type sms on. keys just got messed up in the dark and never quite hit the right ones without looking directly at phone. Otherwise a decent copy of 3310.

I got this phone since 2005 and its works really well. I dropped it many times on hard floor and even on the street but its still working fine. Once I even dropped it into a drain full of water. I picked it up and then even wash it before letting it dry by itself. Then my 10 years old daughter put back the pieces together and amazingly it work again. I don't even need to send it to the shop. I highly recommend this phone to those who need a simple but useful phone.

i have a full signal but my messages are always 1 to 2 hours delayed and i'm having a hard time sending my messages... also it doesn't show "check operator service" when i'm out of cellphone load... it always says "Message sending failed... can somebody help me resolve this... I can buy whatsoever Nseries or SE W-- but what for, like ride Boxter during rush hours in Bangkok metropolitan !!

Hello all, I use 2300 as my second phone. I use 2 phone at same time. my another phone is nokia 3250. But its not possible to take N3250 at the time of rain or when move without car at night!!! More over By using 2 phone its easy to use 2 number at a same time. 2300 is a great phone. The sim which I mainly use is inserted at 2300. Specially I like the Radio option of this phone. Actually I am planning to buy 2300.But having seen varied opinions(for&against) I am forced to reconsider my decision.I saw this phone 2 years back.I was very much impressed by the look and its sleekness. The FM is a plus.But was told that there is a problem with the phone.It hangs often and the ringing may continue for long when you receive a call.So now I am in a dilema as to buy it or not.But one thing is for sure.The FM quality is GREAT.NO MATCH.But going for 2300 is like GAMBLING.

To all, who r facing software/firmware problems wid this N2300.... go to any recognised nokia service centre/certified technicion and ask them to update its firmware to the lastest firmware that nokia has released. i was also facing hangs and freezes but one day a friend of mine told me that nokia has fixed all bugs in their latest firmware release for 2300. check ur firmware like this *#0000# after update My firmware version is V 7.36 21-11-05 RM-4 this update cost me Rs 150 equal to 3US dollars, now its working fine...great...

Looks that many shops have discontinued selling the 2300? Probably too cheap to make a good margin on. I had a fancy Siemens S40, which was once replaced due to warranty problems. And the S40 display was lousy. I finaly replaced the expensive S40 with the cheap Nokia 2300, which has all essentials if you are not a feature freak. The 2300 did fit into the S40 pouch perfectly and has been reliable now for over 3 yrs. The FM audio quality is a nice bonus!

Hi, Have owned a Nokia 2300 now for about 3 yrs. And it meets all my essential needs. I bicycle and I like the radio. Changing preprogrammed channels is easy, I just push the talk button on the handsfree mike. The phone discontinues radio and answers automaticaly. And returns automaticaly to radio after a call. It is also easy to scan for new local channels as you move into new areas. Batterylife is sufficient for all-day radio listening and heavy calling. Audio quality is excellent. The reason I bought the 2300 was adequate features and dirt cheap price.

Solution for all Nokia 2300 users: If anyone of you is facing problems (Hangs, errors etc.) wid this handset, i have a simple & easy solution for u.... just reset your phone & all your problems will be solved: u can reset this set by going to setting & then press "Restore Factory Setting" the phone will ask for the security code, the default code is 12345 (use the other code if u have previously changed it). Please make sure that da battery of phone should be full otherwise if the process of resetting is interpted due to low battery, consiquencess would be fatal... so before resetting ur phone make sure that the battery is full. Enjoy*** use this phone the sound quality of Fm is awasome

hey.please dont buy these phones...it has been 1 and half years since i bought this phone.... now its internal memory is corrupted which makes the installation of new software also impossible...for all the new buyers please be aware..otherwise it is a very good sleek soft keypadded , easy for messaging....but should not use the fm often or messagin often because the software gets corrupted..... my advice "handle with care"

i have been using this phone for the past two yrs(since june2004).i had a lot of good and bad times with it but i learnt to love it.it's really cute phone, a very handy design, suits both men and women well.to discuss the pros and cons: pros: 1.sturdy and attractive design.yeah attractive?surely it is...it used be a head turner when i first bought it.for the first look it appears as though the key pad is impractical .but then with some practice,u will find that this is a very good design as it rarely gave me any RSI even after long message typing.to speak of sturdyness, i dropped the phone for more than ten times..twice on road while ridind on bike..still not even the covers parted.once it just got switched off and turned on again(ofcourse that it does more often than not,i'll tell u later) 2.FM radio: let me tell u , this phone has got the best FM quality any phone in it's class can give u,for that matter to get a better reception phone u may have to spend another 5 or 6k INR(abt $150).The earphones are also good.I can get a clear and loud reception even while driving and in train. 3.SMS capacity:I didn't realise this phone has got such large sms capacity untill i found that my inbox is never overflowing despite the innumerable messages sent by my cellular service provider. 4.battery life: excellent .with normal usage(1/2 hr talk, some gaming) u can get about 3days of usage,even u keep on listening to radio phone will not die upto 9 or more hrs ( or untill it gets switched off by its buggy software) 5.Cellular signal reception is also good...never did it let me down, even in cellar parkings. cons: 1.buggy firmware: while browsing through ringtones sometimes sound suddenly freezes,or while browsing menu items,phone gets switched off and turns on,it can happen even while writing a message,u just never know when..but its there always round the next turn. 2.lack of support for more poly phonic tones.The fact that nokia can provide 5 polyphonic tones in the fixed 35 tones,tells that the they can provide more but still thier marketing strategy dictates otherwise. Verdict: all in all a good phone which u can go for if u can live with it's minor software bugs( for other things there is always good nokia service there!) it costs now about 3100 INR (about $68) in india.

I purchased this phone recently and already i found a lot of bugs in this, like the light goes of when you browse through the ring tones with the rythmic lights on and also when you choose all small letter (abc) while typing the sms only the first letter will come in small and other will come in Caps.. My friends told me that there is a new software available for this phone at the nokia service center.. I am hoping that it will fix most of the bugs.. and key board is not so easy to use

i've had this phone since november 2004 (abt 1 year 3-4 months now) and it's dropped a lot of times but still works! Yeah sure it did refuse to turn on one time but after bringing it to fix it was OK already! I think it's OK but I would really luv a colour-screen phone!!

I have posted a positive openion about 2300 earlier in this website. But now about 10 months after purchase i have suffered a lot from this mobile. I headphone icon comes on the wallpaper and there after it's dOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOm. Even upgrade can't help to solve this proble. Out going and incoming both were not possible, as the out going dialing soung is missing and incoming one can't here what the other is saying. This phone has two basic problems:- 1. The ringing volume even at level 5 (which is the highest level in this phone) is so low that in average noisy conditions viz,while travelling in car etc it is hardly noticed. 2. The contacts memory is just 50,and hence you require a pocket diary for more than 50 numbers,or else be at the mercy of SIM Card capacity.

My sister presented me Nokia 2300 on my Bday, and found it very good. I like the way the alarm operating with snoozing. The only drawback in this model is no place to store more Ring tones and the speaker phone is just only up to 7 points and we go on roads or crowded areas nothing can be heard. I like this phone mostly because the colour combination is really fantastic and wanted to listen to radio when I get bored and spend most of the time with that. Pls consider the other points and make it more Friendly user. Thanks to NOKIA group.

pls don't ever buy this set... only appearance is good..other wise it's good for nothing. It's major problem are 1)Software problem- after using it for 6 month or so (in warrenty period) the display will disappear without any reason. 2) Radio is not effective, doesn't catches the signal properly ie when other listen you try to adjust the position of hand set. 3)battery performance is very poor... not even 24 hours properly... so don't buy this...!!! I rate it -1 on a scale of 10

I have bought the Nokia 2300 in last week and experienced the true voice quality for FM and Radio as well. This is one of the best phone, I ever used, compared to Nokia 3310, 3315 and 2100. I think that this phone is ok.I have had some problems with it but there were solved with one command:Restore factory settings.I don't like this command because it delete the ringtones that i have composed and alos the pictures.All in all I like it.I'm lovin'it! I was crazy when I first sited the NOKIA 2300, I struggled to buy it been used with the older 3310 (called pure water in my country). (Just about 4 months old) to my surprise, I had a call, as I wanted to accept the call the phone refused to work again. Since then I have been trying to repair it but no positive result. Even I tried using computer to solve the problem but the IMEI on the phone did not show the 16 digits, it shows only ??????????? (question marks) which renders it useless since then. Although that fault have lost my taste of NOKIA products please if you can still repair or give me clue send it to my mail box as the phone is in my museum. Thanks.

I fell in love with the phone when the first time I saw it! Waited for more than a month before I could get it. But it let me down! During the first week the phone wouldnt ring! I got a software update for it after which it keeps hanging and the screen just flickers and goes blank! And the ringtone volume is so low that I can hardly hear it even on Max ringin volume. I bought this cell two months ago and the cell is lying in Nokia service station in Bangalore from 1 month now. The cell has severe software bugs. The software needs an upgrade and now finally the hardware had serious problems when the SIM card reader just became faulty o ne fine day and Nokia people take ages to replace this. This is the most unreliable cell I have ever bought.

Bought this one (of course a grey colour-other colours look ridiculous) because it's cheap, has free head phones (I talk to the phone many hours a week) and because it has no colour screen (want the battery to last no to jerk of with the phone, colours and shit like that). Guess what!Lucky strike... The menu was not the traditional Nokia one, had right scroll key that made the phone comfortable to use just like Panasonic menus (the best to my opinion-poor phone reliability though). Radio comes in handy some times to use. Have a minor problem with the �enter� key, does not respond always at a stroke and sometimes you press it ones and goes off like you�ve hit it twice! I wouldn�t wanna mess with Nokia service department and as long as the key malfunction is infrequent and bearable I�ll stick to it. Phones are not exactly built to last forever (manufacturing policy-fashion items), they�re built to last for 6 months or so. A friend of mine encountered serious software problems with the particular model though. Mine works fine for now. If you don�t pick the faulty one it a GREAT phone to use (�as a phone of course and not as a camera or a multimillion coloured display fancy ring tone player/gaming shit or whatever other ridiculous demands people have from their phones today). Remember that you�re buying a phone�not a laptop!!!

I bought one last April when they first came out, worked for 2 months fine and then it simply stopped. I tried to find a solution but no joy! I went to my local dealer and he couldn�t fix it, saying that this model has a common problem of sometimes hanging or fail to recognize the SMS. I bought the 6610 which I found it very good and more practical however, I still like the look of 2300 and couldn�t get rid of it! This phone sucks major big time!! It's software is buggy, it would crash and freeze! The centre navigation button has design fault and would jam the menu button. Sometimes when I press the enter button it would jump two pages because the buttons are jammed. I had it serviced once but a few days later the problem came back again. Ok... this phone is quite expensive... really, for a non-color and cameraless phone. The size is big. Its like the 3210. But with Poly and i dont know wether this phone have GPRS. Some more color phones, smaller and camera attachable is much cheaper than this. This is more for the 'girls' type. Even the gray one cause of the butterfly like design of the keypad. No color, No camera attachable, big in size and No GPRS?!!! Remember, dont get fooled by the designs... check it out before you buy them... Really, check the features. if youre really addicted to it...i mean REALLY addicted to it... Theres somtin rong wid u then. Cheers.

why is it nokia 2300 phone doesnt have an outbox? becuase when i transfer my old sim card which ive been use in my old nokia 3210(with an outbox), the message from my outbox(that usually appear on my 3210) did not appear. it didnt even appear on the draft folder which i expect. is this really are?? or im just not reading the whole manual? thanks!
