Have you ever had a problem with this phone? I have had mine for years and it gave me no issues. Now all of a sudden a padlock icon has appeared on the screen and I can neither make nor recieve calls/texts. Thought it was my sim but according to my carrier it is not them...if I cant fix it I will have to get a new phone...dont want to give this one up. I love it.

What is impressive about this phone is that now in 2015 my wife is still using it and it looks almost as new and with 2 day's battery life. I've bought her a tablet for all the android apps goodness and we can't find a reason to change the phone. She will probably use it for a few more years.

Its a good phone exept if you put in a 4GB SD card and you full it...if you do that the phone is lagging...The camera is good VGA but not perf (you can see pixel boxes) in my nokia 5250 with same camera there was no pixel boxes...so on 7/10 from me.(i have change many phones)

I was looking for a stylish, easy to use and reliable flip top phone and this is the the best i could find. This phone is totally awesome! I Love It. That flip up button is so cool!! and the looks 9/10. battery is very hard working. also it has video calling. Thought the main camera is crap, but I don't need it. And the secondary screen is great feature. If you want the most stylish and reliable flip top phone go for this one. Its amazing!

Get the slide instead. Folding fones dont make much sense. Plus the 6600 Slide has better cam, 3.2mp with autofocus. Some girls like fold, maybe it reminds them of the little boxes girls love when they are below 10 years old, boxes to keep small beautiful and precious things in. Folding fones might give big girls the same feeling? A kind of box to store precious things like contatcs/texts/pictures in. :D

@pepe: yes you can turn the tapping sensor off: menu, settings, phone, sensor settings, off. But then you can't bring the clock display on by double tapping either (which is a nice feature). It is hard to refuse a call accidentally when opening the lid, as you have to double tap once to silence the ring, then double tap again to reject the call, and it is not very sensitive at that. Opening the lid answers the call at once. Not sure if I understood your 3rd question. Do u mean if the phone is too prone to get fingerprints and general oily hand marks? Oh yes, big time. My wife's old 6131 had a matte rubber finish which was better on this aspect - but after years of use, the rubbery "skin" was peeling off - uglier than finger marks. I have an E71, so that's a fact of life for me, which my wife will learn to accept too :-/

@Mike: U sure u are not holding the phone in a way that the clam cannot pop open? The phone is rather slim for a clamshell-phone, so it is tricky (depending on your hand size) to hold the phone and press the open button single-handed without interfering with the popping up of the display - and in my wife's phone this is what makes the "Open fold manually" appear. On its granpa 6131, the open button unlatches a mechanical lock which remains unlatched until you open and close the clam again (so if you press the button THEN get out of the way of the lid, it will open). On the 6600, if the lid can not open at the same moment you press the button, it stays closed, and the phone asks you to open it manually. I think the button thing is a silly amusement (both on 6131 and 6600), as popping the clam opened with your thumbnail is pretty easy on both phones - and would be easier if Nokia had provided a "crest" on the side so people with biting nails problem could do it too.

Yes, you can configure it for BIG letters. My wife had a 6131 which we had already chosen for this feature, but the 6600 Fold (which looks to me as a renewed 6131) has even bigger fonts. Very nice phone. Only complaint: I had to make a theme myself (with Carbide.ui 3.4), bc I could not find a clean one (white bg, black fonts, also important for readability) on the web which wouldn't render the calendar useless by not setting its fonts too to black (most free themes use v2.0 of the theme file, which does not set this).

I've got that phone for 2 months now and I LOVE it. It's the best phone i ever had and it is so CUUUUTE. I needed a phone that could manage mails, go to the internet and take decent pictures. My previous phone (Nokia n80) did that very well but it was to big and did'nt fit in my poket. So, when my N80 died, i searched for a smaller phone and I found the 6600 fold and i am not desapointed at all (even if it is not a N serie phone) I had no need for the map application. But now that i have it i am very happy with it. Here are answers to some of the posts. -Some people dislike it's sound . I use my ipod's earphones for the music and sound quality is nice. -Some people said you cannot make a blacklist for incoming calls. I think there is an option therefor in the settings/security menu. -There is a delivery reports folder for the messages. -It comes with an USB cord. -I bought it august 2009 for 199 euros.(it's less than 199$). So, if you want a good quality phone with a nice design and have no need for an exel viewer, an 8MP photophone with autofocus or a GPS, you'll surely like the 6600 fold.

Yes anjelina, it does have that function/map. You do have to manually install (takes only 15 seconds if you know the way around in Nokia Menu)

my friend had also this kind of phone... and she also have a problem with the scroll key...it was cracking!!!! i told her to buy sony ericson because their phone is made from steel and not from cracking plastics like nokia... my phone now is nokia 5320 and as of the moment the problen is the display.... :C next tym i'll try other brand...but not nokia anymore

Unforunatly a phone to avoid like a hole in the head, My one is only 3 months old and has already had to be repaired 4 time now with the same problem, The centre scroll key keeps cracking and breaking to bits it was repaired free the first time but now Nokia refuse to admit there is a problem with this cheap plastic key and say the fault is down to "user misuse" I will never buy Nokia again.

I've been searching for a phone that could be small, elegant, cheap, bluetooh 2.0, good camera, OLED screen (it extends the battery life), cell phone fold type, fm radio, mp3, expansible memory (it comes with 1GB microSD card) and 3G. Here in Brazil we have few models to choose, so our choices are very restricted. GSM Arena gave me a lot of important comparisons and I picked up the 6600 fold type. I am very satisfied and really recommend it to everybody who likes a reliable charming technology.

One of the worst phones I ever used!!! It was the first time I purchase a nokia mobile and what a waste of money! 1.Poor Battery 2.The clock will only appear if u opened and closed the cover/fold u name it. 3.In general I think nokia has the poorest programs ( for example there's no block list,the txts msg can't be shown after each other u have to exist one to view the other, the call log will only show you the time of the last call...etc) 4.Finger prints all over the phone. 5.Scratch where the fold closes. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy it it's a total waste of money.

Yeah this phone is a lovely little thing. Too bad it seems to be pretty underrated. As for the Map, you just have to start the application and select find address -> choose the country then the postal code or the city name then the address then the house number. I put in my own address, and it worked just fine.

Don't worry, it's as good as it gets in texting, just that the screen is a bit too crowded since it displays the recipient, the text and the attachment. I'm a fast texter too, and I also find that the buttons are quite easy to press.

To anyone who has the phone, when you text on it, does it input letters as you press them? What I mean is, I am a fast texter, and sometimes I feel like I am typing correctly but the keys can't catch up or something, For example on my phone, I try to type 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog', but end up with ' The quick brown fox jumpr ovdr the lazx dog' Even though I'm positive I pressed the right key the right amount of times!

Thanks for the "camera" settings options I've done all ur suggestins, now i think its somethin else :( may have to go to a dealer or shop - get them to look, cause when i turn my phone ova and look at teh camera lense, it looks like its got condensation between the lense and the outer cover thingy... I hope they can fix it too, as this is a lovely phone! ! So simple and easy to use...lovin' the button at the side u touch to "flip" phone open ! ! ! So to others looks like u doin it majickly !:p

I do not think this thing has to do with settings.the caller ID just appears on the external screen, you cannot choose to make it appear or not, as I know so far.But maybe you should see if the software is updated or not and check that from nokia.com, cuz mine is updated and the caller ID is displayed when the flip is closed so I know who is calling me.

first of all I am sorry for this problem cuz it is really a nice phone, I hope you can fix it.I have this phone since a month or more.I did not face this problem.sorry if I could not help, but try this thing in the setting of the camera settings/image quality/ choose high image size/ choose 1200*1600 Now try this also from the setting of the camera settings/effects/normal settings/flash/automatic finally try this from the setting of the phone setting/display/display brightness/ make it the highest level then ok well, I hope this will work with you maybe you should after that turn it off then restart the phone and make sure that all the settings are as you choose.

I have this phone, and it has been great, i dont go for all the "gismos" and what not, i basically txt, call and take photos... I'm not sure if i've done somethin - setting wise - but for 2 weeks my phone camera is not working properly, when it was b4. Its VERY fuzzy, no matter if its during the day or inside or whateva. I took one photo about two weeks ago - was perfect... now i go to take one, and its fuzzy and blurred looking... is it a setting u think or is it that the lense or somethings needs fixing or replacement !? It sux, as its one of the few things i DO use.... Any help would b great ! Cheers Jc

I am happy to help if I can, so never mind Nikita. as for the first question, yes, nokia 6600 fold is like SE z310i,the external screen shows only the clock, then it disappears, when you tap on it, the clock appears again.here in this phone you have tapping not side volume buttons like SE.so,if there is a coming call , when you tap it shows you a phone picture.if a message then a message.but all that will appear after tapping on the phone two slight tapps.even the battery,the same.so yes it is almost like SE z310i. as for the second question, the answer is no, as I know and try it. best wishes,

Thank you for the answer, osaima! Sony Ericsson Z310i external screen shows clock too. But, when message coming or there is incoming call, the clock will be changed by envelope or name caller/number. When the phone is charged (the phone is off), in the external screen will show battery icon is charging. If we leave it (when the phone is charged) some minutes, then we press the volume button in the side of the phone to see the battery icon is charging, the external screen show clock only. So, we should open the flip to see the battery icon is charging. If we charge the phone (the phone is on), the external screen will show Optimized Charging word, then it show clock only. Does Nokia 6600 Fold like that? Does Nokia 6600 Fold has a secret code to check Clam Flip Count (how many times we open-close the flip) like in Sony Ericsson)? Thank you!

I work for CPW and I can assure u now that whoever u spoke to about this handset knows a lot about the handsets we sell, however this particular handset is not one that we keep in our stores due to the fact that they were recalled a few months ago!. I personally own this handset aswell as a blackberry bold and a nokia 8800 arte and I have to say that this handset looks and feels great but there does seem to be a few software issues with the phone due to the size of it and the lack of power going to the handset. Please do not say that CPW staff members do not know what we are talking about when it comes to phones as I have worked with phones for 9 years now and u r pretty much calling myself an idiot too! The person u were served by may have been a new staff member and maybe was not as "clued up" about handsets as u would have likes him/her to have been but we are all only human ya know! As for the external screen, it does not display the signal or the battery,because it is not large like motorola RAZR, it is a small one, 1.3 inches I guss and as they say in the specs it is OLED display, that means it displays the signs in one colour which is white while the screen is black.so, on the external screen you can see the clock,the alarm,the name and number of the caller,an envelope as a sign of a message coming,and the battery just if you are charging. ask me anything you want,and do not be shy,I wish I answered you as you want.

Hi Deepa, how r you I assure you that you can see the caller name and number on the outside screen clearly,and you can adjust the phone from the setting as you like, for example, you can answer any coming call either by just opening it or by clicking the answer button,also you can put the tapping on the outside screen on or off. the camera is realy good for 2 megapixel,the sound quality is good, the sound clearness is good,the size of the phone is perfect.the only bad thing about this phone ,in my opinion, is its hedphone.I think they are not practical,but what a big deal,you can buy another good one. as for the battery,I think it is good, but I wanna say that I am not such a heavy user,I dont use bluetooth so much or the radio.I use them a little, but eventhough I think the battery is good. I advise you to go ahead and buy it,I love this phone very much.

Thanks for the reply to the question about caller ID. It seems that carphone warehouse have no idea when it comes to the spec of the phones they are selling. As for getting a phone because it makes you look hot, I'd contend that you, my friend, have bigger issues to worry about.

hi, as for your question, yes you can know the caller ID without opening the phone becouse the name of the caller or the number is shown on the small screen out side the phone.and as for the other question, you can set the phone from the setting ,either you put it on and the phone will answer automatically when you open it or you put it off and it will not answer any call if you open it untill you press the answer button. Need help. In January this year I bought nokia 6600 purple color in Bangkok as a gift to my best friend. I like the phone as it is so attractive and nice, perfect to give someone as gift. I paid TH Batt 10,950/ which is approx. $ 350/. I did not check as I was told that it was checked already. Now when we try to used we cannot hear the voice of person calling except when put on speaker. Only the receiving person can hear to voice. Hi nikita,how are you? well, for the keypad, no, it is not metal, it is a very good and refined plastic.it is not cheapy plastic. I assure you it is good.the only metal thing inside is the menue button,which is in the middle if you can see this picture of the phone here in this website. the push-to-open mechanism button is great untill now.but I can not tell or predict if it will last or not.but,even if it is not, what is the problem.still, you can open the phone manually. it is so easy.

Vinz! I don't understand what you mean with menu button. That I know mobile phones that can do multitasking are Sony Ericsson, because most of them have the activity menu button. Most Nokia mobile phones don't have the activity menu button like Sony Ericsson. I think the best flip/clamshell mobile phone is depend on how do you view it. In my opinion, good or not is relative. All mobile phones have advantage and disadvantage. For me, Nokia 6600 Fold, Sony Ericsson Z610i, Sony Ericsson Z770i, Motorola RAZR V3x, Motorola RAZR V3xx, Motorola RAZR Maxx V6 or Motorola RAZR2 V9 are good. I know Motorola RAZR have less function compared to Nokia 6600 Fold. But, it's OK for me. Thank you!

@ Tutti Frutti i used this model for a while and got disappointed with the speech quality from the caller. the caller's voice sounds muffled and i found it very difficult to make out the words from the caller if the sorrounding conditions are little noisy specially outdoors but if you are in a quite area like home/office or in the car then it's ok. i did even update it's firmware but there is no improvement. nokia should be more careful when they launch their final products. just because they are under pressure to launch new models to compete with their competatiors, they seem be very hasty in launching without conducting proper test on their hand sets . i have found the speech quality from 5310 music express very good. now i have put back the 6600 into it's box and kept is aside not knowing what to do with it. though i am a nokia admirer for its simplicity, i have bought SE302 which is far better than 6600.

I'd recomend you folks keep away from Nokia's innovations, just because they never work and bring down all other benefits. Nokia's gimmick this time is the outside screen sensor or more exactly, it's functionality on incoming calls. In my phone it seems to be so sensitive that all incoming calls are rejected (double-kick) or ringing is silenced (singe-kick), which turns the phone into practically useless, unless you turn off the sensor at all.

hi mami kawada san! hmm difference is the material of the unit. 6600 fold is heavier and is more solid or metal like than the slide which is plastic. Screen of the slide is wide, while the fold has an average one and not as bright due to its oled feature. based on my experience the fold is faster, because the slide hangs BUT that it may differ since i may have just held a troubled unit for the slide. The slide is slim and small and I loved its leather case, while the fold has a pouch :) Hope this helps.

Talk time up to four hours that means you get no more then three hours. Why would someone rate performance that high? Unless you are from Nokia and being paid to do so. Who in the right mind would be buying the flip-flop when the battery is so weak? It is not �90s anymore. Look touch screens are holding 8-10 hours, and this sorry flip-flop only up to three hours, even Motorola is probable lathing at this. I home this phone dies before reaches the shelves.

I'm having the exact same issue. i have no idea which one is better. by the sounds of it though, the sony ericsson is better cos it's got more features. but reception and download speed wise, the nokia is better. But yeah. I'm having major problems deciding myself. The nokia 6600 looks pretty snazzy. And the W980 also looks pretty sweet. It's a toughy. If anyone else could shead some light that would be great!

Thatz a sad excuse for returning the fone, itz like all other nokia fones when it comez 2 messaging, when you wanna insert a msg while texting, u jus hold dwn the no. u want or u hold down the # button and choose number mode. Just had the opportunity to play with this phone. Really, really nice feel. Small and very solid. Quick responses. Finally a flip from Nokia with just the right features which is not ugly as hell... It must become a winner. If you are looking for a smooth flip-phone you should also seriously consider SE Z770 (which for some reason isn't included in the list of competitors in the review). To me this is the best looking clamshell at the moment.

I have been with 3g now for about 4 years and find them very good. Good coverage in the UK and aboard as I have been to Spain, Milan and Portugal and found it not trouble. I am on Mix and Match 300 so I get 300 text or minuets or a mix of the two for �20 a month and free minuets to any other 3g mobile.

I found it easy to use and very smart I got the purple one, as I already have a contract with 3 I got it for free as it was an upgrade, my 20 year old daughter loves it so I will have to watch out. I fell in love with it would not hesitate to recommend it. Small and sleek definitely a ladies phone in purple. If a 20 year old likes it them it must be good.

nokia 6600 is designed simailar..nokia 6555? the price is a bit expensive now because it's a new phone.and it's only 2mp (not bad but not valued to the price it's worth now) But I'm sure after 2months or by 2009, the price will go alot lower to engage consumers. So I would advise to buy this phone next year... if you want to buy a phone now you should try other versions of nokia phones that are much more worth it. Unless you just really like this phone, then just get it? ^^

No the original box does not come with a cd. You can download the software free off the Nokia wed site. Also the phone is good but a little heavy. The one hand flip function has a bit of kick in it so you have to be careful you don't drop it when you use this function. I'm trying to figure out if the phone can be used as a flash light, i cant find the option.

Nokia has relied too much on the design but employing low materials. Feature wise, its not impressive, not even on the top-mid end segment. Its a fashion-savvy solution, an electromagnetic clamshell with elegant design. However, the materials used is poor, while it may look good brand new, you really have to take really really good car of it as the PLASTIC will eventually wear off. Scratches and smudges is very common with the materials used. If the mirror like finish will wear off, so does its purpose of being a "fashion-savvy" phone.

This one's a great upgrade to my 2660. i bought my 2660 at a very cheap price of only less than a hundred dollars. simple and small which is what liked about it. Now this 6600 fold has the same small size but with well-proportioned set of features for a mid-range fone.. My 2660 doesnt have much prblms, so i hope for the same with this one.. =)

I think that's wonderful Phone. It use PMOLED(sub) and AMOLED(main). How wonderfull it is. Vivid color and fast response than TFT-LCD. Look forward to being million seller.

I think Nokia faces a Great shortage in their model number. That�s why they just add some word with the previous model number and there is no similarity between the new and the old model.Ex-Nokia 6600 was symbian operating and Nokia 6600 Fold is Java operating.

yes nokia is in strong position but not at 47% but at 37% market share in world, LG is experiencing growth but only in Q1 of 2008, SE is not at the verge of collapse, its profits are down Q12008 compare to last year same quarter but it's market share has increased, when ppl don't have right information don't try to spread your own opinion, and it doesn't matter to world to what you stick, nobody is asking you to change your opinion, buy what you want and enjoy that product, but you have be open minded and also keep your eyes open to the success of other companies.

I have one simple question. Why do Nokia always put a low performance battery for such a amazing product? we all know BLC4T battery sucks. When they say talk time is 4 hours, that means the phone lastonly for half day for heavy usage. Can't they make higher prformance battery like SE? I want this phone, but I need higher/extended capacity batteries. Any input from you guys? FW

To those who worry about the function of the hidden display: It can show more than just missed calls and new message, e.g incoming caller ID, reminder texts and music player. The indicator light (situated above the hidden display) by breathing quicker shows you whether there is a missed event and you should tap to check what it is.

brilliant phone i like alot great foldong features with caller display my battery lasts like foreva only problem is when i want to answer the phone on my sirrico i have to close this one and answer the other one thats why i got maids (eg the ladies) to do the simple things in life for me come on nokia give me a break and make a handset that is designed for us rich people not the paupers

275euros. this phone is expensive considering that it is sort of a downgrade in terms of feature compared with the original classic 6600. the old 6267 have better screen and features than this phone and it's a lot cheaper.

The external display of a folding phone must show the caller ID, what a nonsense idea of Nokia to put an oled display for only clock? R they trying to copy Motorolla or Sonyericsson? But it's good thing after the Nokia uglimization of world by filling it with N-Ugly-Series.

Glossy surface with hidden oled display... mmm.. sounds like my Sony Ericsson Z610. Why didn't they keep the S60 Operating System for 6600 series? It will be an advantage when comparing it to SE phones. Anyway, I'm still considering to buy this phone because its color option: purple... my favourite color. I wish it will be available in Indonesia since not every model of Nokia phones is marketed here.

Original 6600 was once a flagship phone of Nokia. It was symbian 60 and i dont understand why Nokia downgrades it just 40? Compared to the original, i'd still choose the old one because of its interface... But im looking forward for the release of N96... Ey, a lot of Nokia phones will be released on the 3Q, why isnt Nokia release some even earlier and some on the 3Q to balance it off???

That means each time you want to see if you have missed calls or messages you have to tap twice on your phone. What progress is that over a standard idle screen showing missing events ?

@ mc3t yes, AFAIK, Nokia always install Nokia Maps on their hi-end phones. even my old N73 has Nokia Maps application. the maps application will work if you connect your phone with Nokia GPS Module (sold separately).

Poor battery life, but it doesnt change much because you just need to buy an extra battery, unlike any other phones who have poor features which cant be helped, i personally think that Nokia OWNS !!!! \m/ Lets hear for Nokia ~~~~~~~~~~~ Go 16m OLED screen!!!!

great phone it has NOKIA maps all over the world and you can buy a memoroy card slot microSD (TransFlash) that is up to 4GB and this phone has MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA player plus it has GPRS,HSCSD, EDGE, 3G and addtional it also has flash; secondary VGA videocall camera...great phone from NOKIA...

nice looking phone but why only 2megapixel? it should at least be 3.2megs and the screen should at least be 2.2 just like the slide version.
