Using it as my main phone. Also have a nokia 808 and a n900, but n86 has everything I need and is more handy and practical. It has: - Great camera - Good sound - Loud volume - GPS with offline navigation - Internet for basic functions - Torch - Calendar, calculator... - Document viewer (But in a small screen) - Email - PTT - Battery lasts for 2 days with normal use (Torch dries the battery in a couple of hours) ... And you can get a 2nd had one for 30€!!! So... Why to choose a (Ex.) S7, Iphone, G5... I think only if youre a heavy Internet user or need to view-edit documents.

My N86 served me very well since 2009. Notification on screen regularly that it was backing up data on micro SD card. But N86 fell into water and couldn't be rescued except for the micro SD. Desktop computer running on Windows 8.1 shows all the folders in micro SD but all with 0 files. However properties of 8Gb SD shows that half of its storage capacity is used up. Could it be that Windows OS cannot read the backup under N86 Symbian OS? Could someone please help with recovery of data. Thank you in advance.

Bought it recently second hand, nice phone, nicer than N82, camera not much better but in daylight with low iso surprising amount of detail with little oilpainting effect. Much better than SE K8xx. Will replace housing with new housing from eBay. Amoled display is nice but I believe it is pentile. Much better than LCD from that era though.

Ok the smartphone nokia N86 8MP general it's amaizing ..the browse the flash player that can open flv..more than that realplayer have good perfermance...camera too with iso 800 realy amaizing on capting! Telling the truth, this is probably my last Nokia phone. 1. The battery suddenly discharge (replaced it but no help) - software loop? 2. The battery does not hold more than 8 hours (20 min talk a day) 3. Its micro USB for charging does not always response (refuse to charge) 4. Nokia does not answer those specific complaints 2 years now! I using the latest firmware. 3G network only. No W.F, No B.T, No open Apps Etc.

well its worth replacing my xperia x10 mini for this phone(as a companion phone to my main xperia play) nit does its job well it really excels at capturing landscapes,really taking its wide-angle advantage..filling what my xperia poorly performs,so i leave portrait/close up mode to my xperia..in which N86 performs poorly(wide-angle negative side) overall,it is an excellent phone,u can feel its on own class.

Have had the phone since 3 years. The design is good. After 2 years there come a update and the GSM start working. The GSM/maps was OK from start. Road maps for all over the world is free. The camera is wery good, but the flab to protect the lens has a tiny spring underneath that scratch the objectiv so the quality is now lost. Then the same thing happend as with all of my old NOKIA. 1. does anyone solved that stupid problem with full internal memory of temp files that can't be deleted no other way then reseting phone by *#7370# ? 2. in my case even the reset service code doesn't work (it worked for the first time) and now phone just replies "Request not completed". 3. while checking mails my phone freezed and I had to switch it off and on - since then I can't get my built in mail client working and still get error message "Couldn't connect with server" but I have no problem browsing web etc. only the built in web client doesn't work. is is somehow possible to re-install the firmare or at least the mail client? when I tried it following instructions getting the client from Ovi I got to a message saying something about the fact that client is built in and can't be re-installed..

I have the N86 with FW 30.009 and it has the battery problem too. it doesn't last even half a day. when the phone rings it frequently drops from full battery to 1 bar and 2-3 seconds later the phone goes off by itself. I replaced to a new battery but the problem wasn't solved. I have installed Mobile Guard and I always close the apps in the background with it, did you know that many things are still open even when it's not showing in the multitask menu?!...still no change in battery life. Is there a solution to this problem? if I'll reflash the device or flash with a CFW will this problem go away? Plz, I really like this phone but can't stand this battery issue. i have now my nokia C7, but my n86 is still the best because of its camera that is autofucos unlike my c7's fixed focus camera... and n86 is very handy.. there's many compatible softwares.. i only had an upgrade once. nothing follows after 30.009 ver 29-03-2010 ver.date., in terms of music, in n86 is great, you can edit album titles, track numbers, and many more.. but there's this BL-5K battery with 1200mAh which is not good and do not last long.. the battery of my n86 is dead and i had it replaced with a new one.. hoping that nokia can fix this battery issue. but n86 is still the best. and i love it very much.. ;)

Yeah. N86 is the best S60 ever made. I can say with property. I am a nokia collectionist. In my modest opinion nN96 cant challenge to N86. n96 hasn't good performance, camera is normal almost like n95, there are not much more cfw, and it is made by plastic materials and so videocodecs are not improved as n86 has for playing youtube's mp4. In the other hand n86 can be upgrade with symbian Anna CFW thats by Strategist, has good sound and buttons are better located.

Its perfect for me. Though it is slow but thats not a problem for me cz its not that much slow. Nd, N86 is undoubtly a great camera phone.. The camera is perfect.... The duel LED is gud..btw, a xenon flash should have made the camera more perfect.. Now talking about the music.. Its a N series phn.so nthing 2 say abt the music.. i've been using this phone for 2 years since end of 2009. at first, worked pretty well, but i cant get the new firmware. as always, the batery's awful! and there will be a lot of lagging caused by the internal memory of 8gb! once you use the media player or the camera, the batery will drain as fast as a lightning! like seriously. at first you'll see there are 4 bars, then 5 minutes, you got a warning that the phone's batery is low! the camera's the main attracting force here, works pretty well in the night too! and still using till now

This is a great phone. The CPU should be faster, sure, and screen could be better in sunlight, but otherwise no problems, and it's packed with features. Hi mate, don't even bother about the CFWs coz i've flashed my mobile past a month and could nt take what the benefits are really beneficial and switched back to the original FW. The benefits of the Cooked Firmware is it gives you more system tools and softwares and some annoying theme effects. The applications after flashing a CFW to the phone can be downloaded indeed. The main annoying part is the theme effects. You'll be fed some wannabe effects. Thing about the installation of unsigned apps, you can google it because i found a way to use it via the Rom Patcher+. - From a N86 maniac.

Hello friends, My N86's photos application keep on opening by itself quite frequently. I showed it at the nokia repair center. They told me that its a software problem and kept the phone for a month. When they returned it, the problem seem to have solved but to my utter dismay, it recurred after 3-4 days. Latest fw is 30.0.009 -battery. It is good. With web browsing usage it will be draind in one and a half day. -camera failure. Just reflash you device. If failure continues, then replace camera unit or buy a new one.

Hi, In my opinion: Web browser is normal. Just remember N86 has 7.1 web browser and actual symbian Anna (and Belle) packs the new 7.3 I prefer to install Opera Mini. It is fine to me. About GPS signal is good, not faster as nokia e71 (loads about 5 seconds average) but is enough. About media, audio codecs are terrific almost like n8 (i have it and i can compare). About video it plays all material under 640*480 pixeles. Display has the same n8's quality. Finally camera photo is superb, maybe need quite sharp at final details, but is awesome. Video reocording, i record a sample, then i copyed it to my n8, then it was played trough HDMI: quality is great very clear, sharp, equalized colors, 10/10 where vga allows the maximun quality. If you play from RCS cable you lose quality fron hdmi playing. Thats all mate.

Xenon flash is useful ONLY for taking still photos and yes it makes for god photos but it cannot be used as a flashlight and more importantly as a video light in low light conditions. Finally, it is upto the designers to make three tradeoffs: great photo or video light.

Phone does not lock onto the home network after the phone is in a location with no network coverage? Anybody who is familiar with Nokia series phone (i have used models from 3310 to one of the latest) knows that phone will usually get the network after no network zone. Probably, the reason your phone does not do so is: Under Settings->Phone-> Network->Operator selection if the setting for this is manual, the phone MAY NOT be doing the auto search for home network. Please check your settings and good luck and please let me know whether this has solved your problem.

I have the phone about 1 month. I can say this one with firmware 30.009 was fast and decent about performance in video-photo shooting and SO was normal. Now, S60v3 fp2 can be flashed with CFW (custom firmware) Im using "Monologue final TRANSFORMe" version. CPU and UI are much better and faster. Camera get improved and an importante change is contact bar in principal screen. I took a shot So N86 in normal firmware is great, but in CFW is Terrific. No doubt, the best non touch phone ever made by nokia.

Funny. I didn't have these problems you mentioned. All of the n86 users I knew including me never had problems with it. It was fast, reliable and easy to use. You must have had bad luck with your unit.

i had used N86 about 2 years, and I nvr have any problem with My n86.. the thing that i always did is updating all the firmware/ software and take care of it. i think you received bad N86., my suggestion is, go to Nokia Centre [please go to authorised service centre] and repair it and I wonder .. why you dont claim your warranty..?? just go to service centre and ask them to repair or replace it/ they must repair your phone as stated in warranty

I was very excited about the N86 8MP when I got it 2 years ago. However, as I used the phone over the last 2 years, I have discovered many glitches and illogical features in the Symbian UI. For example, the phone log does not use seperate icons to distinguish a cell phone number from a home number in a contact. So, when I use the missed call log to return a call, I never know which number I am dialing unless I go through a series of menus to see the actual number. Also, the messaging software is terrible. So many unecessary clicks to input a contact and to send a message. Also, the message details such as sent time and number are all hidden and I cannot see this info without going through menus. Overall, the UI is very user unfriendly. The camera does live up to the expectation. Both pictures and videos are exceptionally crisp and colors are accurate. Though the double LED flash does not really help that much in long distance shot in the dark. But most phones are bad at that. My complaint would be the annoying loud shutter sound of the camera that cannot be turned off. When taking pictures in a quiet setting like during a wedding vow or a speech, it is extremely disruptive and embarassing. I have never been disappointed by a Nokia product until the N86. I do not recommend this phone.

I saw my friend's N86. I was amazed by the brilliance of lightly shielded AMOLED screen. The color is simply superb. it's like reading a paper with a glowing characters. On Touchscreen phone, most of this briliant AMOLED colors are filtered by the touch layer. i estimate a lost of around 20%.

Why xenon flash is so rare in nokia phones unlike the k series of sony ericsson it almost have xenon flash.. Nokia,is it really hard to make xenon flash 'cause your always using leds which is not that bright..if there is dual led flash there should also a dual xenon flash!! It's something new in a mobile right? So far nokia just made some phones equipped w/xenon flash like n8,n82 and 6220c..imagne! There are many cameraphones that nokia produced but there are only 3 that has xenon flash! Nokia,is that what you want to have to your customers pure led flashes?.,

I bought a second hand n86 made in China and I am not sure about its quality. I was wondering if it is normal for the call quality of the n86 to be little fuzzy compared to other phones and is it also normal for the slider to be wobbly? The battery becomes low in about 5 hours if I use it extensively like listening to music or surfing the net. Is there also a way to remove the scratches from the screen, like a glass scratch remover or something?

I am using it from 8 months. It has no problems at all. A very good mobile to keep for long time.. Powerfull sound quality in Headphones. Speakers are little bit noisy. but I don't use too much. (I listen music on headphones great quality). I use its camera flash as a torch light (powerfull flash). screen is also good. Scratch will not effect on screen. keypad is like oldie.. Netsurfing speed is low comparing to xpress 5800. It droped so many times a day from my computer table but still in Good condition no fault, just backside cover got scratches. :) Just i said it is good mobile with all functions you need and to keep it for long time.

My *,o,# buttons are fine after months of use and no dust under screen.It does seem apparent that there are bad batches of nokia fones from years of comparing devices.My original vodafone nokia n95 finland made was very good construction but my mates n95 was awful china made.The plastic was thin.I have also had nearly all nand e nokia smartfones,plu,ive bought and sold them over again.I have had some good units and some bad.My last e75 the chrome outside was falling off and the right hand side bank of buttons went after 4 months.This e75 i have now is 9 months old with no problems.

Hi Ben, N86 camera is superior, specially in day-time and at night without flash, but can't compete to zenon flash. One thing, i appreciate is its audio quality via earphone(i use sony earphone), more bass and clear sound even better than my sony mp3 player. Screen visibility in direct sunlight is very poor. Lower line buttons (*, 0, #) get scratched within a month when sliding due to its manufacturing design defect, but can be avioded by sliding with its top-side screen. Dust gets into under-screen due to its manufacturing design defect. Phonebook is good when searching by any part of a name. I prefer its stylish look and heavy weight. Battery lasts 2 days for me on average use. I give 9/10 marks.

Close ups are a no no with edof ,i tried with a ruler and got some focus abot 60cm away from subject.That was when i had n8. Now the thing is i am a button fan and hate touchscreens..I have had plenty of touchscreens but ended up back with buttons.I find it difficult doing most things with touch never mind gaming.I cannot really comment but did try tetris on touchscreen and its just not good for me.However you may be fine with onscreen touch buttons.So i dont feel qualified to comment on touchscreen gaming. The new Sony Ericsson play is on its way tho which might be a super option for you.Its full android and good graphics chip and all the gaming controls.

Now, I want to know that the onscreen controls are good enought to play games on N8? or for E7 can I take good close ups or images of text with it's EDoF camera? You would be better off with n8 as n86 will only play basic games.I dont game much only basic games to try for personnel best but use gpu for video recording mainly. You would be much better off with N8 for gaming but still the best gaming fone is fruit fone.I hated saying that word cause i hate fruit fone.

I don't think, there is any S60v3 game that requires integrated GPU. But still, can you tell me, what's the difference of playing a Racing 3D game on N86 and N8 (as N8 have GPU)? All proccessors have a basic 2d/3d gpu but its what they call integrated GPU.The type your on about is dedicated gpu or graphics chip which n86 does not have but i can tel you something.Nokias n82 had 2 proccessors with dedicated graphics chip as such.One proccessor did all the radio stuff ie bluetooth, 3g,gps.The second proccessor dealt with the o/s.The gpu or whatever you wish to call it did help with gaming if the programme called on the gpu to assisst ,,it also helped support th tv uot and helped keep the VGA 30 FPS OUTPUT.

If ur fm transmitter ain't working, I'll suggest dat u should fix the back cover properly perhaps placing it correctly and if there is damage 2 the back cover I'll suggest dat u should replace it with original replacement for fm transmitter would not work if there is damage to the Back cover. With any of the above procedures u should have a working FM TRANSMITTER

This is a fantastic bit of kit,i have 2 N86.With its special lenses and smartphone capable i love it.Its been with me allover but under heavy use it lasts me 7 -9 hrs,just take 2 batterys or proporta charger.Using tweets 60 etc it does all i want even basic spreadsheets using paid for quick office.9/10.SENTfromN86 on train.

In regards to today's announcement that WP7 will now be Nokia's primary smartphone OS, ad jus like to say that the N86 will probably be the last Nokia device i will own considering from the gist of things Meego looks to become another long-term backburner like its predecessor Maemo. IMHO, Nokia develops some the most capable and best-built hardware available in the market, but with WP7 on board as the OS, sorry, i can't bring myself to buy into the whole "Let's buy into android and WP7, we really need to become a pawn of their parent company's large and burgeoning OS so they can sell and advertise and get bigger and bigger and invade every chasm of our lives" My firefox already has enough add-ons running to keep Google and the likes away...paranoid..may be, logical..more so. The whole point of different OSes is to account for varying consumer interest and whereas WP7 could assist in terms of general UI advancement (lets face it, Symbian (S^3) is two-folds more functional than WP7), the fact that all it does is cater to the US market, etching out the rest of the world means one thing....Elop was Nokia's harbinger of death...We want capable phones, with the hardware that Nokia so proclaimed to be the best without wondering where all our data is being sent off to..and sure, who's to say Nokia doesn't already route some of our info down yonder...but atleast then it's only some.

Are you sure its not the battery on its way out.I ve had an n86 and on second battery,it got to the point whee it was lasting 2 hrs.These batterys start going after 18 months and because most people charge the n86 daily it wont last as long as say the e75 which i charge every 3-4 days.

Ya friend. N86 is just pure awesome. If you have n86, u won't need a stand-alone digital camera (for common people like me). During night also it provides very good quality. The images produced by N86 are even sharper than N8. Google it.

A tip to nokia n86 users. During night photos, u should use the flash setting '' Reduce Red ''. It provides clear images. As with the '' Automatic '' flash setting, the night photos gets blurry when not captured well. But using '' reduce red '' provides clear images at night. And also set the colour mode to '' vivid '' at night. Its gives best results.

N86 may have music quality and other things average, but as it comes to the best s60v3 + best camera phone, I think Samsung i8510 Innov8 also can't beat to N86, then what is SE W995. N86 has got dual slide, variable aperture, N-Gage, 8GB internal memory, 16.7 Million AMOLED screen and finally it is Nokia phone. Nokia UI is the best in the world, i.e. it's menu style, themes, just everything. N86 beats every s60v3. We can't find the phone BEST in all aspects, but we've got the phone 'GOOD' in all aspects, and of course that is Nokia N86. And if you concern style, N86 is more stylish than the 'dumbphone' SE W995.

Yes.. the latest version is v30.009.I am using a n86 for a year and half now. I accept that the N86 is a very good phone.But it`s too slow when it comes to using application.. so someone is going to buy this phone...my opinion would be think twice..!

Ok. . I have been using wave s8500 since two months. I bought it coz of its amazing hardware. But i have to say i am disappointed with its OS BADA. It lacks support and apps. Even while syncronising email, it gets disconnected when the screen backlight is off. U can't even do multitasking with java apps. For eg, if i am downloading something in opera mini and suddenly if i have to go to contacts, then downloading stops and opera mini gets paused in background. It gets disconnected in 2G network most of the time and its slow compared to N86(running the same opera mini). Even the default browser of wave is very slow and doesn't support text reflow. Poor flash performance. Wave's camera is good for a 5 megapixel and HD video recording is extremely good. Apps like opera mobile, nimbuzz, fringe, etc are not available for wave. Most of the times i rely on my N86 for camera, email and internet browsing. Samsung Wave2 is also same. Just bigger screen and has Bada os v1.2. I suggest you go for N8. Even though symbian is critised a lot. It gets ur things done. And the 12 MP is amazing. The N8 looks very attractive and very good to hold ( i played with it as my friend has it ). And mostly women like attractive phones and they do click photos a lot, rather than playing games or other things. N8 has plenty of apps available. It has 3 homescreens with widgets (wave has upto 10 homescreen wic is generaly useless as, wen its filled with widgets, it shows 'not enough memory' ). I am planning to sell my wave, if i find a customer. And then i will buy HTC desire hd or nokia n8. Samsung never again, coz of its poor user experience, lack of apps, irritating software, etc. Go for nokia N8 or C7.

I WOULD NOT AT ALL RECOMMEND YOU REPLACING N86 to W995. I have had so many problems with this w995. The newest official update made the phone lag a bit when writing sms, which annoys very much. Also, there are a lot of features missing, e.g. the search in the walkman playlist is basically very poor, also, you can't turn of the sound when you are taking a photo, change background colours (you can only change the whole theme and wallpapers), video quality is very poor, and so on. There are a lot of these little annoying problems which made me sell my w995 and buy N86. Sony ericsson never again.

Holy God ! I got a 4mb photo today with my n86. It was at indoor, close up, sharpness set to 'hard', colour set as 'vivid', exposure '0.3', iso set as 'high'. . . . For the first time i got a 4 MB PHOTO.

i tried every button present in my n86, even camera button. but nothing happened. i guess sumthing is wrong. and good news guys. i found a way to launch the hidden multimedia menu in n86. it was launched with the help of special multimedia key(button) present in other nseries devices. but for some reason nokia removed the key(button) from n86. So for that, u need to install JBAK TASKMANAGER, which is available for free. then run this app. press the menu key (diagonal key) for 4 times(no long press, just simple press), then press n hold it one more time, that makes it 5 times. And hulla, the multimedia menu pops out which is hidden in n86. remember in the 5th time, when u press n hold, keep pressing n holding till the multimedia menu appears. . . . .

even through noka supplied in ear earphones sound quality is too good to hear... in real scenario i will never use my loud speakers for music, earphones are much better...and who cares to play music via loudspeakers...if u want to hear it loud use its fm transmitter/bt n ur music system...actually its practical not possible to integrate very good speakers in such a small device along with plethora of features but when it comes to sound level of ringtones through loudspeakers, mostly i miss calls, n even vibration is damped becoz of nokia supplied cover...

For gallaria, what'll you do with high volume of speakers, i think its optimum for use point of view. Sound quality through good earphone (not nokia supplied earphone) has best audio quality, better than w995. Camera quality of N86 is far better than w995. Sony won't input sony-camera and sony-walkman best technologies to SE phones because it'll hamper it's big market. Don't go behind w995. Yes, ur right its heavy n not eye catching. people having problem with battery indicator, use ion battery timer (paid full/limited free version) available at ovi store...it shows battery status in % and is highly reliable... also battery is a real problem...bt as per nokia specifications its giving its best...i tested it long ago and i could listen to music for over 28 hrs (subject to various conditions, offline mode, lowest brightness, etc) approximately equal to the commitment by nokia (30 hrs of music play back)... bt n86 is power hungry...and wifi is the ,most power hungry...

I've had this phone for abt a year now. And It's one great phone! Besides the speakers that is. The speakers arent good at all. Its quite a heavy phone too but thats negligable. The camera's great. I honestly think the battery's performance depends on the owner's usage of it. Decreasing the brightness is a great way of maintaining the battery. However, I'm planning to change to Sony Ericsson W995. It caught my eye. Any comments on it? I'd love to hear some!

All who complain about the battery indicator should understand that the indicator (to the best of my understanding), indicates the voltage level of the battery and not the amount of ENERGY remaining in the battery. Hence, the first bar does not drop until about 40 to 50% (or even 60%) of the capacity is used up. Also, new or sparingly used batteries will show a slower drop than weak or old ones. One can use Nokia's Energy Profiler for Symbian 60 Version 3 or Nokia's Battery Monitor for 5th or ^3 phones. The Battery Monitor actually measures the energy flowing into and out of the battery (TTBFMK).

I think all Nokia battery indicators are inaccurate. I'm not using N86, I'm using 6303c (an S40 phone) and it has 4 bars of battery indicator but the first bar doesn't disappear before 60% of battery usage, and after all the bars disappear very fastly.

same here...battery is very big problem it even lasts a day... and even the battery indicator is too inaccurate...all 7 bars means full battery, ans if it drops even by 1 bar...get ready, its just ~50 % and afterwards god knows...one more call and low battery indicator will start flickering...and after 5-6 low battery indicators phone will switch off...and the mobile is under warrenty period and can i ask for replacement of mobile because the mobile has been sent to nokia care 4 times and the same battery drain problem persisting

Nw im testing its battery. 1st i installed MOBILE GUARD.then found that realy its camera app running in bk ground,then i close that by mobile guard. Nw im using it aftr ful charged frm 23 hrs.(2hr net 3g, 20 min call) stil it shows ful battery.

I have put this phone's battery to a test by using it a whole day continuously(6 hours of music play, 1 hour of FM transmitting, 20-30 photo shoots, 5-6 2min Video recording, 10-15 calls, 2-3 hours of web browsing with Wifi, bluetooth file transfers, 1/2hr N-Gage game play, around 3 hours of application usage like messaging and maps with GPS) and still it had two blocks of battery charge!!! Really Amazing for a smart phone. FM transmitter range is limited to 2-3 meters.....so you can't impress others at a party with your cool FM transmitter. Camera is very good but the image has a slight yellow tint. Connectivity is the best feature of this phone. The only negative aspect I feel is that the screen gets dirty quickly with fingerprint marks. Requires frequent cleaning.

Any other solution for battery problems? I've tried using a new battery for my phone and still its having the same problem with my old one. My batter only last a day. I tried charging it full and rarely used it. On the second day, I just made 2-3 calls (5mins each) and the low battery warning showed up!

yes i also encounter that one bout back-upping msgs to the e-slot or the mass memory. it really makes me not comfortable. i really can compare it to my other phone, the n81 8gb. i think theres a lot good functions with the n81 compare to N86 except for the camera that its really nice which i think is the only the best feature of this phone. I can even scroll my finger over the cursor of N81 just like a laptop but i cant ever do it with my N86.

I have my N86 8MP. For me its really a nice phone but i have one thing i hate about it, is for having an auto-landscape view when u try to lay down the phone un-intentionally. It really bothers me when for im texting and im lying on bed coz it will automatically set on a landscape view which it makes me hard to type. Also, i have noticed about it, when it comes to video downloading, my N81 8GB is better than my N86.

Hello, everyone. My N86 is 1 year old now. Mine is indigo, made in China, and I added a 8 Gb card, which also came with a USB adaptor. I chose it because it gave lots of functionality at a reasonable price- even today not so may phones will give you this at 280 euro I paid for it. I dont give a dime for Nokia's brand- I've had various phones, SE were better than the others. The phone is still in good shape, no mechanical probs, no hangings, no dead battery in 6 hours and so on, despite it being assembled in China. Yes, sometimes it is a bit slow to start apps, but not critically. The camera is pretty good, FM transmitter sometimes very handy, GPS was also handy when travelling as far as 750 km overseas. Battery isn't bad, I charge it every 2 or 3 days with moderate usage, however recently, a couple of times the phone switched off without warning- just beeped twice. No power save mode, no warnings. Now I charge it more often, just in case. Sound is inadequate, I frequently miss calls when it's in another room, and when it's in my pocket outside (it's winter now) I'd miss absolutely all calls if I'd not hold it in my hand. GPS has a habit of regularly not locking on sattelites even in direct view of the sky, but I am not expecting much form a non-dedicated unit. I also tried Garmin on it- much better maps in my country than Ovi, but took too much space, so I erased it. Photos are good, although mine never go beyond 2 Mb- some people say they get 3-4 Mb pictures, I wonder how, I've used the best photo specs possible. The slider back is all scratched, the lower and right hand buttons too, and even the lens cover has a slight scratch, but nothing critical, also wobbling is not too bad. I am a careful owner, BTW. Used E72 for a couple of months alongside N86- of course E72 was much faster, so much more convenient for texting, web surfing, but lacks all the media I wanted. Overall, I'm satisfied with the device, since it gives me so many possibilities without having to carry around a camera, FM transmitter, a USB flash drive, a GPS navigator, a music player. I do have all this devices, but having everything in one gadget is much more convenient- no fiddling with chargers, SW, headsets, memory cards, cables and so on. And everything works pretty well! Hi, I got this phone in August of this year, I'm in my 4th month now. My top problem with this phone is the battery, sometimes i charge it twice a day, horrible, right? Then another problem is when i switch the network from 'GSM' mode to 'UMTS' or 'Dual' mode for 3G, the phone restarts itself after some minutes of usage. It tends to get hot in my hand during this period, but Nokia said there is no problem with that, I'm afraid there is. Another problem is the slide, it tends to get a bit shaky. When u convert any video to mp4 format from pc then first adjust its resolution (to know this go in camera>setting>resolution of ur mobile) If ur resolution is correct u can play mp4 on ur n86 or any other mobiles.

My N86 8MP camera is Great! But the problem is the shutter is broken or loose? What can I do about it? Am I going to the Nokia Care Center or just repair the flex??? Reply ASAP. . I'm in need of help now.. :(

If your FM transmiter does not work just do a soft reset Got to : Tools->Settings->General and do a Factory settings ;) (If it dosnt work the first time, do another time.)

@Doc I also have n73 n82 but not n86 i want to buy then for 8mp photos but.....n82....what i can say for this device?.....no problems hangs anything....photo samples?similar to n86 some samples better due to wide vario tessar lens .captures more space in little distance,in photo nature is better..so i didnt change it! Ive been using N86 for 15 months now and I have to say that Im very satisfied with its overall features, but there are some issues that i dont want to tolerate anymore, and as a hardcore Nokia Nseries fan and because camera is the most important feature on a smartphone for me, I am going to buy Nokia N8 as soon as possible. I have used N73, N95 8GB, N82, N85 and now N86 8MP, so N8 seems like a logic choice for me. Of all those Nseries phones Ive used, only N82 could come close to N86 in photography, but only because of its xenon flash. Now, I have to say that the double LED flash on N86 is definitely the strongest flash Ive ever seen on any cameraphone, sometimes to the point of being too strong! And we all know that one of the main values of xenon flash is that it freezes the picture even when capturing some very fast moving objects, for example, with N82 i used to take pictures of a cooling fan at its highest speed and when captured using xenon, picture looked as if the cooling fan was off! And i like that white light that xenon produces much more than too yellow LED light. But when taking photos outside at the bright daylight without using flash, N86 beats N82 big time! Speaking about the speakers sound quality, again I have to say that N82 had much stronger speakers than N86-sometimes i miss the call because i dont even hear it ringing. So now the only thing is that N8 is going to be my first touchscreen phone and I hope Ill adjust to it quickly. All in all, even after 15 months of using it, N86 is still a great phone in my opinion, but the time have come for a new phone and of all this cool new phones, only N8 attracts me very much, probably because Im a big Nseries fan after all!

now on my third n86, first one had charging issues, charged it fully for 8 hrs then ran down fully and charged again as you should do, sometimes with phone charged overnight,during the day when i took a call it would go to powersave mode and the battery gauge would show only one bar but some time later it would be displaying full again!! got a replacement and it done the same within days and then the earpiece got so bad i could bearly hear, have just got my third and already the battery is messing around!!! i do absolutely love the phone beside the problems, great functions, great camera and loud ringer which i need for work, if only nokia would fix the problems i would be very happy

Had problems too with battery (lasting less than a day sometimes only 6 hours, then reset & "system error" message - a program failure for sure). Didn't knew what prog. was the cause so, deinstalled some apps incl. battery meter, gps positioning methods: internal+assisted only, made a backup then reset *#7370#. It now holds for 2-3 days. I have it from july 2oo9. Otherwise, best Nokia beside n8! I want a 12Mpix camera in a phone with hardware keys :(

Yes I agreed with you. Indeed N86 is a best phone in Nokia brand. The 8MP camera is superb. you will certainly love its camera. No best camera phone in Nokia brand beyond this N86 phone accept Nokia N8.

Hi I am Ikram Sulaiman. N86 is my first choice. I have used Many Nokia N-series phone specifically Nokia 73, N95, and Apple Iphone 3gs, HTC Touchpro.Imate and so on. I carefully studied all phones futures and the performance while I was using phones.Then I finally came to upgrade my Apple iphone 3gs to N97 mini or N86. I went thourgh in the internet for the all it futures between these 2 phones. Both phone futures are same, the differecne is N97 mini is a Touch screen 5MP camera phone while N86 Non touch screen with 8MP camera phone + FM transmitter future which is not available in N97. However I already have very good experience in the Touch screen phones. Touchscreen phones are not sensitive when you are in a very busy mood even if it is an Apple iphone 3gs. I have used apple iphone 3gs also. For example when you drive a car holding the touch screen phone on one hand which do not have hardware numeric keypad, and making calls on finger touch on the phone screen will not respond quickly. It is really annoying when you are in a very active mood. But N86 excellent phone comparing to N97mini It has hardware Numeric keypad as well. Its performance are fantastic and wonderful. I would recommend N86 is First and best phone in Nokia brand for 2010. But it is true that you must have very good knowledge of N86 phone to get its maximum advantage!!

Yesterday I took an hour video of a basketball camp on N86. Video quality great, sound goo (it was in a gym) still had battery life to spare - amazing! It's a great phone. Sound quality great. One of the best things is the close to E series Mail for Exchange handling with the "C" button to delete unwanted emails. Slide is fine, no wobble. Close to a perfect phone - Having hard keys safer to drive with and this has a great key board. Close to a perfect all around fone - great camera/video/music with excellent exchange mail handling, and small.

slide problem i am the slide fixer i had a n 95 8gb and my 8 gb was sliding better than any 95 8 gb i used no tape it had no wobles it a patience job the its easy like 1 2 3 i have a n 86 not to long bought it my face is break and my slide now have a little woble i am going to fix it when i buy a whole new shell but it will probaly come with one but i hate when my phone slide is wobly i have already pick down my phone to wipe the dust of the screen the me that the slide runs through just needs to be sqeeze in a bit i like i should be working at nokia cause i would of made sure the n 8 have a video light

I dont know where people come from but there is a shop or place online were you bought it from,go their and get it seen too.Here in uk i have to travel 75 miles their and back to get fone repaired or can send it to nokia by post.. Next you will ask were is nokia service centre how do send it to nokia,,USE google for your country?? why should people do it for you ,,youve got a computer to be posting here why not use it to find help in your country ?? All fones have to wobble else you will get steel against steel.Just stop wobbling it and leave it alone and get on with your life instead of worrying about nothing.Their are no recorded reports of ANY nokia slider falling apart.. As i say if was me i do something about it even tho it takes abig journey and maybe 3 weeks to get repaired by post but you have to do the work no-one else can do it for you.

Oh yeah, and the wobble issues, but don't worry as long if not increasing from the first time use.

Just don't slide it by pushing from the phone's bottom/top side, your keys will be okay. Use from middle left and right side phone to slide, like i did. Or push it from the middle screen! Yeah this is my first slide phone and my first Nokia phone too, and hard to get that time. :-) I had the Indigo color (actually like this color from first time), some people here said that the White color will be yellowish by sweat. I bought it from June, 24th, 2010, my phone key don't have single scratch, but in the back slider had thin scratch line after a week using it... Thanks for some users here for the tips.

First i said nokia has white version but now they have sold out,damn. You cannot downgrade firmware but i suppose nokia can but no person in past 7 years has ever been able to do it,,What i suggest is report any bugs to nokia and wait for the next firmware update..I always believe that if it aint broke dont fix it,,if your mobile is doing fine for you then leave it..Just because its new firmware it can introduce new bugs too.. To hard reset nokia s60 third edition fone its *#7370# but BACK UP ..aLL YOUR TEXTS ,FOTOS DOCUMENTS NOTES THE LOT WILL BE GONE!!! T o back up to memory card;; menu-office-file manager-option back up to memory.it may be different in different models but where you find file manager..

Hi Poseidon, My FW is 30.009, i removed all updates (Ovi Contacts, Maps 3.4, and Python 2.0). I thought those all updates only make phone slow. My phone now run around 60-65 MB RAM now (With installed latest N-Gage), May be without N-gage should give around 71-76 MB RAM (N-Gage Installer about 11 MB in RAM). I turn off everything in phone (theme effects, screensaver, sensors), that will help to boost more RAM You should have 'Task Manager' application, or RAM tools, because some applications still running although you close it, IE: Contacts, Logs, and Camera. Ask Nokia Care about downgrade FW, because some phone cannot be downgraded FW.. I think downgrade your FW is bad idea.

Go to "File Manager", choose 'Mass Storage', then 'Option' choose to format option. Be sure backup the data first... You can format it with Computer (USB-Mass Storage Mode), but Nokia suggest to format with your phone...

Hey, did your 2nd camera photo have wierd result like mirrored photos? Funny... ^_^! My phone "File Manager"'s backup features was error. It said "File Manager : memory full....", although all my Memory Drive stilll have alot of spaces? Is this always happened to Nokia S60 Phones? Don't slide it by pushing it from bottom/top side slider. It can scratch your keys...! You can slide your phone from middle side by side (stainless steel frame) by your thumb and point fingers! Or push it from middle screen with your thumb (celladik tips), but it will leave your finger print in the screen...

OH i am not rich my dad passed away a few months back and thats how i got new white n86 all my other fones are second hand then sell them to buy new second hand fones.We have a lot of fone buyers here in UK which pay good prices and if you buy second hand you dont lose much or loose no money at all..

I have read up on vivaz but i did not go for it because am not keen on touchscreen but reports of bad battery and rolling effects in video recording and silly switch on lightbulb put me off.I have had n97 and n97 mini and mini has awful battery and unprotected lens..It depends what you want from your smartfone and what you want it to do..IF you put another opinion in on what you want your smartfone for i/we can help more.I had 800GBP and still could not find a better BUTTON SMARTFONE for spec except nokia n82 and nokia n95 which are still good powerfull smartfone/camfones but a bit dated and hard to get hold of. The n86 has different optics to any other smartfone you can buy in UK with low light fotos and video possible.You can zoom up to 4x in video mode with no loss of quality as the n86 also uses the 8MP sensor to an advantage and as it zooms it uses more pixels on the sensor to keep the quality.. I would give battery 7/10,and remember the oled screen is not as visible as some outdoors but i can still see it in sun..I have it on bedside with stand out listening to music/radio/podacast.Under nightclub conditions the video can show more than n95/n79/n85 ive tested because it handles low light a lot better. I think im stuck with n86 till some other super button fone comes along & thats why i have 2 in case one gets stolen or something.. Some people are still using the n82 and n95 versions cause they cannot find an upgrade.

The latest firmware is v30 but seen as most n-series go to v50+ then i think there could be another update.I have this in black and white version.I got the white version from Nokia itself it was now reduced to 279.99 GBP as of 5th october 2010.

You are correct in your questions, the art of photography baffles me some times and this is why most people use AUTO.Most of the general public if not all just take a foto and the only adjustment they will ever make is turning on a flash of somekind. Real proper photography involves expense and most of that is lenses filters studios lighting etc.What nokia or camerafones are doing is getting the best they can from what they have to work with which is cost and space inside the fone.The n86 lets more light in at lower levels than other camfones on the market thats what they are saying and to me it does a good job. Nokias n8 contains the biggest image sensor in a mobile ,its just a chip full of photodetectors either 2,3,5,8,12 etc million of then that capture the light and turn it into electricity pulses.Thats the basics and the bigger the sensor and quality algorithms and good CLEAN lenses make good pictures,whether thats 1MP or 32 MP its not the MEGAPIXELS that make quality thats just allows you to make bigger pictures. This is why most people just buy whats reccomended and enjoy snapping fotos and forget whats going on inside the device. If you want to go into proper photography like magazines then most will use DSLR cameras but often camerafones give moody different shots that some people enjoy..

But Focal, sensor, large sensor, mechanical shutter, aperture, variable aperture, ISO... And mainly, why the cheapest (real) camera made by Kodak, Cannon or Panasonic... Always take by far best and cleaner picture than the one in phones? I'd like to have information too about sound characteristics like decibel, sensiblity... Comparison between Nokia and Sony ericsson (SE) : I bought SE W995 two weeks ago after going behind the highly over lighted advertisement of SE w995. And now, I replaced with Nokia n86_8mp. I�m discribing the details that happened between this 2 weeks. I bought the SE w995 after observing the advertisement that : clear bass, clear stereo, 8mp camera, music & volume change by shake control, and more impressed by the brand SONY. These all my expectations totally failed. After using SE w995 for 14 days, I understood why Nokia is market leader. I concluded that 'SONY' will never put its effort to raise the quality of music(in earphone) and camera quality of SE phones because "SONY HAS TO MAINTAIN ITS BIG MARKET OF MUSIC PLAYERS AND DIGITAL CAMERA". Again i want to repeat : "SONY HAS TO MAINTAIN ITS BIG MARKET OF MUSIC PLAYERS AND DIGITAL CAMERA" and will not try to raise the quality of music and camera in SE phones which will affect the BIG MARKET OF SONY MUSIC PLAYERS AND SONY DIGITAL CAMERA. Every mobile buyers should keep this matter always in mind. As i realized after using SE w995, 'clear bass' means 'low bass' and 'clear stereo' means 'low treble'. There is a function of changing volume and track by shake control which is quit useless, u will have to press 'W' button and hold, then shake when walkman is on screen, however direct access buttons are already available. Nokia's 3.2mp carl-zeiss camera phones are far better than its 8mp camera. Useless face detection, smile detection are advertised with over-light. U needn't go after 'Sony' brand as I've described earlier. As i saw in Nokia n86_8mp, its a "SMARTPHONE", its camera is far far far........ better than SE w995. However SE w995 is walkman model, earphone music sound of Nokia n86_8mp is also better than that w995. Unadvertised shake control to mute the incoming call of Nokia n86_8mp is very useful. Amazing radio transmitter, i use it to play songs using mobile, sound output in my home theatre system(with FM) wirelessly, n86 acts as a remote and screen, very very amusing and amazing. it seems that your sim memory was full due to text messages and try to clear them off by selecting the option SIM Messages in the options of messaging application. and if u found any mark them all and delete and clear the messages in the SIM. then your problem will be almost rectified.

I know of 23 people who have this fone and more but online people i dont know them face to face,the main complaints are top speaker failure,stiff buttons,not strong battery and cant be too good in sunlight..I am using n86 with 40gb nearly onboard and its a bit slow to find stuff WOW so is a computer.I may have heard of a mechanism failure in cam but that was in early production fones..I have no probs touch wood but these are like comps.. I am sure here inuk mobiles are gauranteed for 2 years and nokia uk website states that the fone is garaunteed for 2 years,,what the hell goes on in some countrys is beyond me but its india people who have the most complaints ive ever seen in my life.. Don't buy it. I have it since last December and I'm just wishing the contract is over so that I can get a new phone. This one is full of bugs. Like each time I slide it, either up or down, it opens the photos menu. Besides, the camera is not that fantastic. I had a Samsung H1 with a 5mpx camera and it took a lot better photos.

Don't buy that phone, had it for one year then suddenly the camera is not working good, the picture is blurred and not clear, it is like that for 2-3 weeks and one day it's fine, then again the same problem. tried to fix the problem but many workshops informed that this is a common problem and even after replacing the camera module, the problem returns back. I think it's a processor problem.

the major flaw is when nokia is running symbian..it isnt smart because symbian has nth...the camera thou give crisp clear picture u just can shut the shutter sound...imagine being in a peaceful cafe trying to take some picture and the noise goes as loud as ur phone could ring...or trying to take some natural pic which would be totally 0disrupted by the noise...its just depend on what everyone nids~just my view is these are the flaws even went there are no flaws

i think n95 8g is superior..it have only 5MPx, but makes exactly the same photos. I like the display of n95...bigger, and the graphic accelerator is a big plus!. I have remote control for my audio system and TV. I think N95 8gb is the most equilibrate model from non-touchscreen N class.

Don't buy a handset from MADE BY NOKIA(made in china). They are totally foul. Their performence is the worst. I bought a nokia handset (made in finland) about 2 years ago. It is still running with good condition. But two months ago i along with 3 friends buy 4 N86 8MP (made in china) handset. But alas! all of those handsets had to send Nokia Care for repairing. The fm transmitter uses the back cover,you can see the gold dot that connects n86 to back cover where fm transmitter aerial is..n86 does get warm now to mssges i go to messages --options--settings--othersave sent messages (yes)--number of saved messages(999)--memory in use--E mass memory. After this it will say copy all messages to to new memory-yes.

i respect that u support this phone but u didnt understand any of my problem...fm transmitter is nt even able to turn on after each use and nid factory r eset to make it work 1 more time..the photo setting thing is a problem of the software and nokia deny of this ask me to get my own repair...the overheating thing can happen even when i leave it aside with no apps or anything on ,unless u conrider the clock on the phone is something u could turn off? About the messaging problem, u mention was my storage full?well wif 8gb i have only used 1gb so that leaves me with? I thought so! Compare it with same type keypad phones (i'm not talking about Touchscreen & qwerty phones)! I felt not really handy using touchscreen & qwerty phones. So far N86 still superior in design, features, and specs that ever made. If you get the better one, good luck to you... That's only my PERSONAL opinion! in my single n86 i had all the problem i think single problem tat have been raised here -the laggy is an obvious thing and something it jus hang there. this is the first i use which have such a stupid problem -next is the radio-transmitter. thought it is not vital or terminal but having this problem is really a problem because the solution is to factory restore all ur thing including ur profile and interface. -is also has occassional overheating especially during and after long usage of internet(whether by 3g or wifi), there this time whr my phone battery is drained in 3hours after fully-charged so bttry life good? -the photo gallery always pop up when i leave it at the home screen and this often cause problem revealing my intimate photos -i couldn't use other storage rather than the phone memory to keep my msg because storage on all other memory will cause about a great lag. -there's still many flaws tat i couldn't mention all at ago so to conclude it, dun buy this phone honestly

Ive had both and both are good fones anyway,,n86 has far better camera the w995 is a poor 8MP unit and n86 has better video recording with true 4x zoom in video mode by using more of the sensors pixels.As for music they are the same thru good earfones its hard to tell ..

if you have wifi at home just connect and it will be free,,but you still pay for your home broadband..if you connect using gprs or 3g it will cost.see your carrier for pricing..If you dont really know its best not to get this fone cause i dont think you will benefit from a smartfone to be honest with you..

When you connect your phone to ur laptop via mass storage.. in C:/ explore and delete the stuff 1 by 1.. make sure you dont delete some systm file and if you are not so sure about it btr go to some good mobile shop and see if they can help you with something.

I have a question regarding that little light next to the charger plugg. It is supposed to light when the phone is charging. I noticed that mine does not work every time the phone is charging. I have this phone for about 4 months. I was very satisfied with it, but I have had camera problems. The camera simply would not turn it self on after I try to turn it on. Nokia service replaced it for free and now it seems to work just fine. I have a comment on the little light next to the charger plugg. It is supposed to light every time the phone is plugged into the charger and is charging. I dont know why but that is not the case with my N 86. Sometimes it does turn on when the phone is charging and sometimes it does not did anyone experience the same problem?

I go to nokia site and choose uk cause i am uk, go to the buy section select n86 8Mp then choose colour white/black..In uk currency its been reduced to 279.99GBP..Also gsmarena has not put dicontinued yet and still been updated like n5800/n79 and so on..The dealer may mean they do not stock it anymore and even uk dont really have it available widley..SO it is not in circulation so the dealer is right BUT its still available..

They are the same transducers as the n86 because originally the n85 8MP as such TURNED INTO N86,,now the problem is they then changed the spec and instead of n85 8MP they recreated a brand new device the n86.. They may have changed the speakers because of the bigger device but whatever happened the tonal quality is better on n86 but they are the same loudness.. If you are after some power in your speakers the 5800 or x6 or n95 has the best quality and loudness of any mobile produced with what i would call expensive type speakers..Manufacturers have something called a BOM(BILL OF MATERIALS) and the more they can reduce it the more profit..So plastics, cheap cameras and speakers are used if possible..You have to go for want you want in a mobile..I had galaxy s and all the top fones but touchscreens suck and the best vailable button smartfone is n86/n95 8GB/n82/n85 and n79..The n86 has better optics,faster proccessor and other tweaks.. n82 has the xenon flash but dim screen poor audio n85 has stiff d-pad area but i enjoyed it n79 has invisible keys when backlight comes on in daylight,you get white against white but has good everything and good battery n958GB has limited slow memory poor audio but top fone just a bit dated but gpu and twin proccessors like n82..

Ive had both the n85 and n86 and they are the same transducers according to nokia but the solidity of the n86 makes the tonal quality better..THey are the same fones but nokia upped everything for n86 with better high quality optics and 8MP..They also installed the higher speed proccessor which is why the battery is a bit worse than n85..They introduced a specially coated screen and lots of metal hence the extra weight.. Nokia at the time did not want to bring out an 8MP unit they wanted to concentrate at 5MP..It was like s/e k750i/w900i k800i all around that 2-3Mp mark which was a better suited sensor for that amount of MP..Most prints were 6x4 inches in film days and even a 2MP good sensor would suffice but upping the MP would need more light and bigger sensors..Still the MP wars carried on and Nokia had no choice but to satisfy the customer..Thing is Nokia were not going to bring out a 8MP just for the sake of it and made it a top spec smartfone with top optics which all others did not have.. As for N8 it will have the biggest sensor ever put in a camfone,BUT,its touchscreen so not interested yet and NOKIA N86 still rules the button smartfone market..I reckon head to head in dark areas the N86 would punch well above its weight with these 12MP canfones..

In all this years testing i forgor n86 has built in 8GB,,that means that with my 32GB card in n86 ive got 40GB ???? The trouble with built in memory is its designed to be robust as people wipe it record stuff wipe the memory ad-infinitum..If the manufacturers put in a high speed card (mass memory) the constant taking fotos and video that the normal non-geek in the street will do it would corrupt the mass memory quickly as it wears out...This is were the troubles start,, people sticking GB OF MP3 on to the mass memory find it takes ages to find stuff and refresh the mass memory..Video recording stutters as the slow mass memeory can"t write the 25MB/minute of data to the slow write speed..Always best to use the external memory card for video recording and thru extensive testing 5 minutes or recording or below a class 2 memory card will suffice.. I want to say about this 5 minute result; unless your wanting to record non-stop event i would suggest using a class 4 card i would NOT say a class 2 would not cope i dont want someone to go out and record a special event and it all goes wrong.. I have been using the wave recording HD and using a class 6 8GB card and as far as testing goes it has not let me down,,no stutter.. All my testing is to help when you dont have your camcorder etc with you but something happens which you want to record,,from accidents in action to eveidence to funny moments to precious moments..To be honest if i was filming a wedding i would maybe use a camcorder but can you rely on the quality and sound????????? At least the n86 has top quality sound and usable video footage that YOU CAN rely on ... I am ordering another white one from nokia store now down to 279.99 GBP,,they taken 20 GBP off..I am scared that no more decent button fones wil be produced for a long while and since into nokia/symbian so much have to take this option..Got rid of n85,n79 and galaxy s so i will make 45 GBP ..i still have wave and e72 but overall n86 wins..I hope i am proved wrong but thats the gamble but with every silly firm doing touchscreens i am unconvinced.. Go into a shop these days and you see a wall of screens all looking the same,,i am repeating myself but go to samsung page and look at that lot ,,pure touchscreen hell they all look the same.. I "repeat" i have used buttons since i was born and love the green send and end button where you feel as if you have hung upp by pressing a physical button.. I have tried my best to find out if symbian^3 and ^4 will provide button fones but up to now it seems its been written for touch,,I could say am ready for a change of device(been their done that)but only the samsung inn0v8 is the nearest device and the lip sync issue is there so no good.. Nokia n8 besides been touch i cannot see that battery lasting..it might for video and music but get that radio on and bluetooth/wifi/gps/2g/3g will still criple it in 4-5 hrs..

N86 has been in for repair to get top loudspeaker fixed,my fault i got some water in it. Been gud fone sum hangs crashes just usual symbian/computer crashes.9/10.

Ive had trouble with third party themes,,some are over 2MB in size and too big..The inbuilt themes will always work best and make fone more efficient..Nokia dont give you many themes but they usually give a light theme and dark theme then choose a wallpaper..The biggest trouble ive had is with third party themes even from zedge..Some themes work great then you come to dial a number and you cant see anything cause background is white and theme text is white.. S/E w995 is not a smartfone so cannot compare them its unfair..

Firmware v.30.009.54.1 I felt my phone lag if using installed themes, but no problem with built-in theme and my n86 sometimes failed to open the 'Settings' menu. I hope Nokia fix 'Nokia Nseries' & 'Nokia Nseries White' theme, they're not skinned well... And 16 'qf' files in Tone list really annoying, since update it from v20 to v30.009 via FOTA!

I need to add more to my memory results,,, The memory card is 32GB but class 2 the biggest speed i can find but found that video recording is fine on nokia n86,,"BUT",,on wave class 2 memory cards cant cope with the amount of HD video recording needs and can be the cause of stutter,,i use an 8GB class6 sandisk memory card for wave video recording which uses up to 80MB per minute average whereas the n86 uses about 25MB max wen video recording.. I always use sandisk altho kingston cards always has good results from users.. N.B. the faster the card the more expensive it is to anyone who does not know..I found a class 10 card at 8GB but it was 89GBP which is what my 32GB card cost at class 2.. To fill up the 32GB card with just 24GB of mp3 took 2hrs at least on my laptop..When i used sony micro 2 card at 16GB to fill it it up it took years,,sonys micro2 card which i used in w995 (which is also a top feature fone)are the slowest write cards ive used in my life..

go to settings personalisation tones and turn warning tones off. dats it. note that this will disable sounds like when charging, opening menu, closing slider etc... and all those found under the section audio themes.

Its the build quality that adds the weight and the camera module does add more grammes due to its build and stability..Nightclub photos and videos to me are pretty decent for a cam/smartfone even better than what you would expect and audio on recorded videos is superb,i thought it would come out distorted in nightclub but no..Audio output is realy impressive its just one of those perfect devices ,perhaps the last button type?????..I seriously,deriously hope not..

I just got the phone last sunday. Great phone with good features. It may look cheap on pictures because of the plastic built but hey when their on your hands, very elegant and durable, good quality of material used. Camera is great even at night (it has face detection). My only bad comment is the slide mechanism, it tends to became shaky. but performance and function wise, you'll be satisfied.

Hey guyz I am using my n86 from 26th june 2010 , its working great and I updated the firmware on the second day I bought it to V30 , no I am asking if another firmware is coming or not ? if its coming then any news about it ? , phone is awesome , Fast and Superb Build quality. Slider doesn't wobble but scratches at the back appeared for which I was told before on Gsmarena as well. So no bigge, Screen is great so is voice and I heard some people having battery probs, My phone gave battery probs too like it get drained automatically it was after I updated firmware so I don't know previously , But for me its easy to solve I just drained the battery completely and charged it again to the Brim, and Voila now I get 3-4 days of use and I don't use much but my Wi-fi usage is like 1 hour a day and 10 mins calls.. 1-2 Sms some games and mostly E-buddy using GPRS.

Guys i ve been out of action for some days. Or maybe months. Last moth we went to hillstation. Neva mind where. I dropped my phone in waterfallwaterfalls. Wonder wat happened. Nothing. I just removed the battery and let it dry fo r two full days and started using it again. No quibbles no problems of any sort. But remember this phone is freshwater proof only. If itencounters sea water it wont work. Great build quality.

If they made a 6 inch by 4 inch print made with any camfone the n86 would be in top 3 if not number 1..I am confident after 15yrs of mobile use and nearly every uk camfone bar the low end types that for every situation the n86 would win..Its in the wide lens and optics that do the magic and the n95 would be their and s/e w900i..

Nokia has their own converter but its highly compressed,,n86 will play .3gp and mp4 but at no more than VGA (640x480 pixels)@30 FPS...Out of the box there is no divx/xvid but some swf and flv play like in web.. The video format took me years to learn as i have put in numerous posts their is so much thats involved and took me ages this is a small list below whats involved and thats only a small proportion;; bit rate format audio codec used resolution frame rate there are so many codecs and mixtures;; mpeg1 mpeg2 mpeg3 mpeg4 .mp4 .MP4 FLV SWV DIVX xvid avi mp3 aac aac+ eaac mkv wma wmv amr flac and so on..its sort of a science and even basic editing/convertion can take ages..these tv editors should be praised for the effort that goes into programmes.. In general every fone should play .3gp/.3gpp formats/codecs..phew!!

N86 has better lowlight photography than other smartphones ,Nokia know their cams like N95 they had to do something special with an 8mp unit..

I would say its got the best camera qualities to date,,even 4x zoom video recording..I use 5MP and its fine for my usual 6x4 prints..The n86 has better lenses and sensor that makes it different to other camfones..

i'm from new york city and i've been with at&t for quite a while now. became a fan of sony ericsson phones while with at&t over the years. when the iphone came out, i'll admit i wanted one too but price was too high for me then. over the last couple of years, i've fallen out of love with sony ericsson phones because they were slow to change their charger port which always malfunctioned after less than a year of use. last year when my sony camera was broken, i decided to look for a decent camera fone because they had gotten better with more megapixels. i found the nokia n86. researched it online thoroughly before i purchased it, and when it finally arrived, i fell in love with it. yes the first firmwares were a lil shaky, but the picture quality and all around multimedia features of the phone won me over. i accidentally got it wet earlier this summer and it stopped working. i never missed a phone so much before. i bought another from ebay and i'm happy again! N86 is a great phone for me because i still am not convinced with touchscreen.

Hi Dr., I guess that's not a software fault as you said that your phone is 9months old and i don't think that the battery will worn out in just a shore period of time when you're using it in correct way. how do you often connect your phone to computer? or do you charge your phone even if nots in battery low or empty? I have noticed the slow deterioration of my battery too!. Before my phone could last for 2-3 days on power saving mode (mostly on tsand by)... But now, its getting shorter, i have to charge it daily now. Though i did not do anything that will drain the battery... weird... Also, im planning to buy a phone replacement, What would you recommend? n97 mini would be a better choice.solid fone to use. x6 has some manufacturing flaws. n86 slide will become loose in no time.

I had typed a few more lines. I wonder where it disappeared. I was cut short. ....when viewed at 800x600. But that was with the earlier 21.006 firmware. With the current 30.009, I get grainy and smudgy(kind of shaken) images. I have to take at least 10 snaps to get 1 good image..Ok completed. Are you there on Faceboook?

I generally like the outlook of this phone and I bought it because I liked phones with keypads. However, just one week into getting this phone, I turned on the GPS and then there will be a menu that pops out n keeps blinking whenever I switched to another application and get back to the GPS application. Since I had to head back overseas to study, I didn't send it for repair. Just into 2 months of using it, one day I discovered that the On/Off button wasn't working and the phone wouldn't Lock the Keypad as it would normally. Just in less than 12 hours time, the phone just turned off on its own and because the button was no longer working, I couldn't use it at all. Thinking that being a global company, Nokia would provide international care for its customers, I was appalled by the fact that the Customer Service assistant did not show initiative in providing the service at all. They did not have the slightest intention at all. Thus, I had to courier it back home and asked my dad to send it to the Customer Service Centre back home. After going through huge amount of hassles, and it was finally sent to repair, I only used it for 9 days and it was the SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED months ago. They installed a new Map that did not allow me to zoom in to the level where I could've zoomed in previously. I admit that it was y fault for having it accidentally had water poured over it but please Nokia, I was your loyal customer and because of this I have already lose all my confidence as I might pay hundreds of dollars and get another defected phone.

i have also snapped many photos but its not so great as i used to have from n79 though its have 8 mp camera and photos are in not great size only upto 1 mb. I still have version 11.o this may be the reason but through computer (software updater) i am not able to get firmware update i have tried almost 50 times and every time it say you have latest firmware but when i tried through fota it shows that new firmware upgrade is available but everytime speed is very very slow even with wlan feature and connection terminates itself

yes the slide is a wobbly thing..and most of the nokia care centres regret this flaw and convince us that it was normal.. i've also got a problem like this and gave it to ncc still i'm waiting for the handset to be in my hands.. u must have to pretend to be quarreld wit the nokia guys :) or else they'l consider this as a common problem..

On moderate use it wil give >24 hrs. Bt if u use continuously then no phone gv u so much time as u expect..yeah n86 wil gv continuous 6 hrs talk time,4 hrs net surfing,3+ hrs video n more than 15 hr music on headphones(not on speakers)

I've used X6 and sold out for some reasons as top reason Cant use touchscreen while driving, very hard for txting and chatting... camera takes time in processing image and picture should be taken holding it very still for at least 3 secs no fm transmitter no adobe reader now i m thinking over n86 again as i changed my mind last time for x6 which was a blunder...

This indicate Total time...That means incoming+outgoing... No one can't erase this timer count. This code not work in Nokia classic mobiles, supernova and 6600.

It depends on u either x6 or N86 both r nice phone as i used n found..if u want touch screen n good camera then go to X6 bt if u want a nontouch n super sharp camera phone then go 4 N86...bt both will b enhanced if u use Senheiser head phones..Their sound quality realy unmatched u can find iPOD like sound quality via Senheiser head phones. I hv posted difference b/w X6 n N86 pg 3 or 4 in reply of uzma jst see that

hi guys. i have a nokia n86 4 months old...i having trouble with the led flash. when i turn on the flash while taking video, the led didn't light up including the small red led. while snapping photo got flash when i select the reduce red eye, there is no flash. i cannot say that the led is burned out bcoz while snapping pic in normal mode got flash...please some1 help

Dear i hv snaped a lot of photos wid my n86 n believe me its amazing in all conditions..they luks brilliant in Laptop/desktop screen even on zooming..1 of my photo i snapd 2days before upto 4MB..n that was crystal clear rest r 1 or 2MB sum r 3MB bt all r crystal clear..

Im using it frm 16th Nov 09 n got no a such issue at al..aftr full charge i can watch video abt 3 hrs..or 3-4 hrs net..if i use little like jst mk calls n listen sum music then battery lasts for more than 24 hrs. I think its Ok..nt even faced such a calling problem..may b ur 1 was faulty

hi, i bought this phone in nov09, within 8 months, i have taken this phone to service centre for more than 10 times. the problems were, slider scratch on keypad, phone network gets jammed,ie "the phone will show network, but incoming and outgoing is not possible, we have to restart again to use..." the battery life is also very bad, the phone goes to "battery save mode after using for 30min, i got battery replaced, but no use... last month i got phone replaced, but its no use.... i have now again submitted for refund.... i dont recommed to buy this phone.....

Hey guyz ! I bought Nokia N86 in July 2009. I'm still using it. I've experienced that Nokia N95's 5MP cam is better than N86's 8MP cam as N95 has an awesome camera resolution which captures breathtaking clear picture's. What say guyz ?

hey dude n86 has got digial zoom not an optical one.... dont use zoom & try clicking in close up mode.

Really. There is a problem with close up mode in n86,you cannot take a pic at a really close distant as it is will be blurred. And it cannot focus on the right subject. Maybe because of the wide angle lens.

If ur problem persists even aftr their repair then they will gv u a brand new n86...i hv seen sum problem in 6600 n 3230 of my 2 frndz n they got bnew phones frm NOKIA..Otherwise u can go to consumer forum if they denied to do dat.hope ur n86 wil b Ok..

Since it wil b the 2nd time. Talk to the manager of ncc and ask for a new one instead of just repairing and the problem wil go back again n again.. You should sounds a litle bit demanding.. =)

I think its a flex prob if u got your phone in bnew wid waranty bring it to n0kia care. Its a factory defect.

hi guys.i am using n86 since oct'09.v30.009 when i switch 2 closeup mode image from cam,picture goes blurr n stays that way 4ever,even when i switch back 2 auto mode,it's blurr n then followed by ''unexpected camera error restart phone''it stays that way n i send the phone 2 nokia care in delhi,where thay changed da cam module.all ok but as soon as i switched closeup image mode n took a pic,same problem.now i'v resend it 2 nokia care in Delhi.wait is on.....any1 having dis problem?when taking pic in macro/close up mode,it gets blurred n stays dat way 4ever till after some time....''unexpected camera error restart phone''it stays that wat even when i'v reset it by *#7370#.sure i didn't donate Rs.21000 to nokia 4 a cam like this!hay guys can any1 tell if da phone comes back from nokia care n again da problem persists,what shall i do?how to gat a brand new 1?thanks!
