Please check your phone on the USB Conector Charger, wich the conector just finished the longer/ conector jumper is be lost. please replace the mini usb conector on your O2 Atom. It's sure the O2 can be charge full again...

O2 never releases WM6.x ... You must find a cooked rom by yourself. The xda-developers.com forum is a good way to start.

Since some weeks my O2 Atom Life (Comet) only charges when switched off. When switched on the charging sign appears but the battery does still go down. Hard reset did not help. What can I do?

The usual problem is that the memory(processor) is not capable of an up grade. Try down grading it again. If it still shuts down, then try to reformat it so it can have a fresh system!

The system must have incurred damage or whatever, try to reformat it. You can download the software through the net!

Just go to the file you want to delete then prolong press the item you file you want to delete. You can do this through the computer if you have a usb cable and the installer for the phone.

Shan I have been using this phone for quite some time. Beside battery life, it is a good phone having windows you can install lots of available software. Just google free wm5 software. If you are having software issue you can reset phone to factory default setting. Google it for hard reset o2 atom you will get links.

there is no option to turn off the device... all you can do is put the phone on stand by mode.. i.e. press the silver button on the top of the phone.

Yes. The O2 Atom came with faulty MS OS platform. All you have to do is get back to the service centre and ask them to reload the latest MS OS Mob Appl. 5.0 it'll work fine. And for additional software download it from any O2 site. Incase the battery life is bad don't dump the phone instead get a new battery of any make other than Taiwan.

Hi Candy. I'm having same problem with my Flame. It worked, then I upgrade my ROM to WM6.1. Then I can't send any SMS till now, even I rolled back to original ROM. This is a nightmare. Hopefully somebody can say something about it.

Another way to 'save' the batt while using it, is ti disable its always on infra red (receive conn only). Start>Settings>Connections>Beam>untick the 'Receive all incoming beams'>OK. On it (tick) only when you wanted to use it. Hope this helps. I'm using iPaq rw6828 which is functionally identical to this.

I've found out that the phone still able to receive call/sms even it has been switched off. -set auto switch off if not use after 1 min (battery advanced setting). -At wireless manager, check to ensure wifi-off, bluetooth-off, Phone-On. -Switch off the phone or let it auto swich off after 1 min. This will save battery life.

Robin, first of all you need to copy mp3 file that you want to set as ringtone to your device under my document. And then go to start -> setting -> sound and notification -> notification-> choose phone: incoming call in the event -> choose the name of the file that you just save as your ringtone. That's it. hi all...just purchased one 2 days ago.. could anyone tell me how to set tones from my sd card???i tried to set ringtones by using the press down pop up menu..but as i set it an error window pops up and tells me i don't have enough space???but when i checked there was enough space...when i did it hookep up to the usb and manually entered windows,to rings folder,..copied paste it worked...but i was wondering why it couldn't work using the first method i mentioned...oh where do i copy and paste for sms tones..which folder i mean... thanks :)

copying files from your laptop to your atom needs a usb cable that connects from your atom to your laptop. from your laptop install a program microsoft activesync, run, explore your files from your laptop and your device using this activesnyc program. drag and drop your files from your laptop to your device..... presto....

you cannot shut down ur o2. it will stand by all the time, which makes the battery last quicker.

hello friend. Speaking about warranty. The warranty for the unit will be for 1 whole year from the date of purchase. ( no matter how many replacements happen over a period ) . Post 1 year the replacement will hold 90 days warranty. And for sure 90 days is more than enough to judge if the unit is performing better or its also a problem piece.

BATTERY PROBLEM RESOLUTION : Its a known fact that this phone has a poor battery life. people on average get about 90-200 minutes talktime. > I've been using pda for ages now and have a better idea. The best option is to try with the settings : Make sure you have the settings right to get the display off after 30seconds to a minute. Alternatively you can buy any third party software like power meter to customize your power consumption settings. ( its available free to download. try googleing it. ) Even if this dont serve your purpose the only option for betterment is to replace the battery. normally the battery of atom last for about 200 cycles and then it start detoriating. Buying a High Capacity battery will solve the problem. Rokr and Atom are both good phone. The difference is that the sound is louder in Rokr when compared to Atom. But the Sound definition is good in Atom. even thought its not loud its clear and defined. so its your decision if you love loud music or the one that plays clear music. Hope this helps.

hello buddy. Im not sure how you are trying this ? What exactly you need to do is to press and hold the menu button for few seconds to get the loudspeaker on( say about 5-7 seconds ). and the same way to get of the loudspeaker.

Hi, first, Please find a computer with internet connection. second, type www.google.com third, type anti virus for WM5 fourth, select one of the search result and go to the site... fifth, select the software that makes a lot promises and click download. sixth, once dowloaded, connect your O2 atom to that computer via active sync. seventh, right click that downloaded antivirus and click copy. eighth, right click again in the mobil phone folder which can be found in my computer.. ninth, click explore after right clicking the mobil phone folder, once inside, right click again and click paste ... tenth, disconnect the O2 atom from the computer and open the file explorer in the O2 atom. Eleventh, click on the downloaded application and let it install... Twelveth, once installed, click on the scan the phone and let it be, till the time it's done scanning... I hope this may help you to find the anitivirus and install because if this doesn't help ...nothing ever will. JIGAR

My device has spent weeks away getting repairs for similar problems; It looses audio. Someone will call and they cannot hear me and I cannot hear them. Also there are no beeps when sms come in. The warranty of repairs lasts only 3 months, so you will end up paying for the repairs. The company MWg don't maintain support or updated software. Don't buy it.

i had high hopes for this phone but not really satisfied with it. i was ready for the short battery life because phones like these are resource hungry but one thing that i was totally disappointed is the signal reception...its abysmally low...calls get dropped for no reason and if you're on roaming...god help you!!!

Hi Guys, I have been an Atom user since past 6 months now.First of all, i read most of your comments and i must say, Please read the manual and your problem will be solved. Second many people here are bashing about the phone with worst performance but the thing is this phone is silky smooth (Ram is not enough). Currently i am running my atom with a cooked rom WM6 and it is working wounders.. To all you people with problems, i would just suggest to read the manual and your problems will be solved. O2 Pda Atom Life is powerfull, 3G internet connect to laptop use Vista, its works, and also if you use bluetooth connection go for internet, just tips to O2 user just patient and try it, battery do not charge internal, used external charger, it would make your pda hot if you use internal charger, I see alot of people complain about this pda, just keep study and trying, this is good device and powerfull if you know how to use it ;-)

To pFkQ: Possibilities why you can't use Wi-Fi: 1. The place where you stand/sit doesn't have Wi-Fi service. 2. You didn't type the Network Key in order to login. 3. You forgot to set the Wi-Fi options correctly.

i have been an Atom user for a year now.. although it hangs once in a while. i noticed it only does when i havent active synched for a long time. im still satisfied with it up to this moment. i have never found a phone with such complete features. like anyone hear said, its battery life is short. the only solution we can do is buy another battery. as for the tones, yes its softer than the usual phones. forget WMP, there's ipod for that. forget the camera, there's cybershot for that. it's still a winner for me.

the battery life is worst, if you fully charged the battery and play mp3 songs in the headset, you only got 15-20 songs playing and the battery is empty, you can customize/changed the message tones, and the speaker is not loud enough speacially when playing music, whats the stereo speaker for? if its very low? the 2 mega pixel camera is really bad also, considering that are lots of 2 mega pixel mobiles that can equeeze out the best picture from a 2 mega pixel...

Since last 3-4 months my phone has been acting weird it does not charge at all and therefore my phone was sent to the service center in new delhi twice in this month but came back in the same condition without solving my problem , while charging the red led on top starts blinking and in2-3 seconds the battery bar on the screen shows full for 10 seconds and then again back to its original low battery status , its keeps on doing the entire time it is put on charge even when charged thru the laptop , i have bought new battery but the problem still remains , please let me know who to contact for solving this problem as of now the phone is of no use to me, please reply urgently , i have mentioned this problem after the phone came back twice from new delhi to O2 india helpdesk call center but in vain. thanking you regards kapil motwani

Hi, I recently bought O2 XDA Atom and it was working fine for the first few days until I tried connecting to wi-fi. After that it keeps on trying to register in the GSM network, but fails and displays "No Service". When I try a manual search of available networks, I get an error message asking me to try later or disconnect the data connection and then try again. Somehow, it works fine when I am not in the wi-fi Hotspot. Can anyone suggest a solution to this? I have tried deleting all accesspoints in WLAN screen. Best Regards, Murali

I second the comment that O2 service suxs. I sent in my O2 Atom (which had an issue with the microphone only a week after I bought it) and they took over 6 weeks to just send me a replacement. I was so close to just refer them to a tribunal.

Hey Jattin from Pune... The pricing for O2 XDA Atom in Mumbai is around 22K. Meanwhile, if you are not fussy about windows 2005 OS, I would suggest you to go for Sony Eric P990i. It is a Sym 9.1 OS phone but has got more features - 3G, Bluetooth with A2DP etc. Also, the sound quality of SE is something which no one else can beat! And more importantly, its priced much less. Around 16K-17K or even less (dunno the latest prices)

This phone is garbage. Frquently hangs up when you press answer, only shows missed calls when it feels like it, battery life is extremely poor, no internal battery so every time you need to change batteries the clock and other settings default, the charger does not lock into place and constantly falls out, volume level on earpeice is low even at highest level. I've had some good phones, but his one is rubbish!

I've been using Atom for 18 months now. A lot of good features. no problems with reception or speakers sound .... for me the main issue is the battery (I don't know if they solved it with new models); if you talk or sms a lot, and use bluetooth, it will not last for more than half a day.

My O2 atom is not showing the speaker option, instead showing handsfree option which is disabled while i make a call. but speaker phone gets on if hold the green key. Also my atom also disabled the hold key and conferencing a call. Is there any solution.

I used to own a mini 02 before,it was great,but eversince I upgraded to Atom pure (special edition) I regretted. I encountered many problems from this phone. 1) speakers spoilt - distorted sound 2) unable to send MMS( not only unable to send MMS, it also cost a bomb from my monthly bill, I have to pay for the all the unsuccessful MMS) 3) The screen always goes disappear and blank and I have to do a soft reset. 4) The phone always hanged and also showed no reception. Must do soft reset in order to use again. 5) I downloaded the chinese software, but after 2 months, it will reflect that the program is expired, but mine is an original software and when I checked , it is still a valid and active program. Do anyone face these problems! I have repaired twices but problems still exist. Can anyone help? Last time, my mini 02 is abled to show the photo call in full screen and I am abled to enlarge the font showed for all incoming calls,but now , with this new atom pure, everything is so tiny. Is there a special software to download for this ?

Hi mate with reception problem - have you checked out the ROM Upgrade on O2 Website for your Atom . You need to check that you are using latest Rom. I had similar problems but Rom upgrade cleared them. Other than that - Send it back !

Desperate for recept

I bought the Atom some months back and it has been giving me non-stop problems. The reception is really bad and the other party keeps telling me they can't hear me or I am sounding distorted. But worse is it's reception! Once i enter a lift and get off, the phone keeps showing me a no reception sign. Even at other places whereby all my other friends are getting a reception for their phones, my O2 shows no signal! I have tried scanning it manually for a signal but to no avail. Only upon me doing a soft reset does the reception come on! And that comes up to resetting it at least a minimun of 6 times a day! And that is not even counting the times it hangs! And the time I have to await for the phone to turn on is really terrible. If someone has a solution to this, please please please inform me as I am getting pretty desperate cause it is affecting my work! I have tried clearing the memory of my phone but it still doesn't work! Help! Somebody please help!

to use speakerphone - make a call or receive a call - and DURING the call you hold down the GREEN DIAL button the one on front of the phone - after a second or so the icon at top of screen changes instad of just a phone 'lifted up' it adds some icon for a speakerphone mode.

Brilliant PDA & can't live without it.. but.. there's always a but.. I'm with the Telstra network (Australia) and can receive MMS from other people on different networks but can't send a MMS.. Even though a popup box says your message has been sent.. I've even tried sending an MMS to my own number.. still waiting.. waiting.. been looking through a few responses about MMS and can't find a resolution..

it does have speaker phone option - hold down Green 'call' button during a call and it activates speakerphone. I just upgraded to dopod 838 pro - its much better phone in my opinion, much more usable for messaging because of keyboard. But same sort of reliability / resets on wm5 as the O2 atom. O2 Atom is much smaller/neater in your pocket than dopod which is heavier/bigger device.

Hi to all, Pls rememeber that O2 Atom is not just your regular phone but it is a small computer. anyways, here are some tips to solve most of your problems. 1) Upgrade your firmware. 2) DO NOT save many ringing tones. (tones used are being saved in the phone memory. 3) Save / install / store your data in your SD card. Make sure that your Phone memory has big free space. 4) BE CAREFUL with wifi connection and sharing of files. (atom s not your usual computer where there is an anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware etc. Hope you get the picture) 5) You can save battery life by closing applications that are not in use. 6) Download PHONEPAD to save your STYLUS from being SAT DOWN or somethin' =) Hope this helps. I had my O2 Atom for 12mths now. It works fine after the rom upgrade in March last year. Its a good phone. The main reason not to buy it is the text-entry method for SMS /Texting. If I was to buy another phone I'd buy a Dopod wiht a pop-out keyboard- if you SMS a lot you WILL really miss not having keyboard....

Its not a built story. Its my true sad story for the had earnt money and my first PDA ` I bought this phone in august 2006 and got problem time and agian. firstly the charger stopped working and now i had a audio problem in jan 3rd week. ( i was not able to hear any sound from my phone( even if someone rings or if i recieve a call). As it was within warrant i took it to service centre in Bangalore ( India ) Firstly they said the technician is left the job and got it delayed for 2 weeks and then the came with a escuse that it has to go to further inspection to chennai and i wll have to product a bill( which i did ) The after a weeks inspection said that it need a mother board replacement and this board as not manufactured in india has to be imported from singapore. ( the mother board cost price is around 12000-15000 INR , so they dont keep in stock. I still wait for my phone to get repaired and its almost 2 months now.I sent n no of mails to O2 support and they revert saying that they will take this further but nothing is been done till date. ALL FALSE PROMISES ` SERVICE FOR O2 IS CRAP IN INDIA. ` The phone is great but from the service point its a crap.

BEWARE! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS HANDSET! I purchased O2 Atom in Feb, 2007 in India and have this constant problem of an immensely irritating constant buzzing sound from the headset. I got my first piece replaced by the retailer, after a long fight. The second piece started buzzing after around 10 days. Now the retailer and O2 support at India expect me to go to hell just because I am stuck with this piece. Now, I am filling a case with the Consumer Court in India to bring O2 and their support staff to accept the problem and stop selling such defective models and thereby harassing the consumers. Just do a google search on "o2 xda atom buzzing sound" and you will realize that the problem exists all over the world! I will never buy any product from O2, the support is disgusting.

Most basic functions of this phone works but there are major points that create much hassle: (1)short battery life (2) the clip holding the adapter to the charger cracks easily, as does the stylus; in 8 months i've gone through 3 pieces of stylus and 2 chargers because without the clip, the adapter isn't attached to the main body of the charger well enough to charge and the clip isn't included in the warranty (3) the device is slowed down and hangs often after just 8 months (4) the wifi can't be made to work (5) the camera is practically useless. the device hangs whenever i try to open the camera despite having enormous memory available, the resolution is really bad, and the zoom option for the video is also useless since the phone can't seem to keep up with movement when the zoom is used and you end up with an indiscernible blur.

I bought this phone few months ago and it was great but until few weeks ago its break down.The phone wouldn't charge the battery & I send it for repair since it's still under warranty.Two weeks after repair the phone got the same problem again.The tech told me that motherboard is damaged and they will replace with the new one.Is there anyone face the same problem with me??

I am unable to use green/red key to power up the phone unlike my 02 XDA II. Also, none of the other buttons (camera, voice memo, volume up/down, 02 media plus......) work when the phone is powered off. Does anybody know why it does not work? hey, i am getting this problem with my O2 , that the screen goes off during a call and there is no display, the ph remains on. then i have to reset it for the screen to come back, i have done both hard and soft resets but the problem persists. any one having the same problem? is there any remedy for this?

the only difference between the atom & atom exec is that the nexec has a 520mhz processor as compared to the 416mhz processor in the regular atom therefore making the exec(atom)104mhz faster!!

ok at 1st it was a damn good bloody PDA phone man, you get all this compliments from ppl around u. but after 2 month...man the stylus starts to break it soften up on u, then the screen starts to scratch and crap, and sometimes it starts to make this beeping sound when u play mp3's, and when i use my atom to connect to the internet by using it as a modem for my pc it only can stay connected for half an hour and disconnect every time! and it gets worst, after reconnecting again it stays online for only 5mins! this carzy problem need to be solve man! O2 is a rich a$$ company u can do better then that come one man!...what the! i pay 2.8k for this!? what do u think?...it's rubbish!

i bought this fone a week ago... 1st day problem=one speaker is malfunctioning 2nd day= the headset is really low and cant hear light sounds from it 3rd to 6th day=cant connect to internet via USB 7th day=it just didnt turn on..it just blinks and thats it.. damn, why do they release such phones without high quality control?! o2 atom really isn't that good...just wasted my money...

The worst decision I have made in purchasing a phone. Was fooled by the looks and features which look excellent; but only if they work ! The company changed it once for me but still have the same problems - very poor voice quality, camera doesn't work, phone shuts down suddenly, poor battery life, very bad service back up, can just go on !

i bought o2 atom 6 months ago.. when i try to capture an image with high resolution its camera hangs n flash light as well.. n when i try to close all programs by memory option then screes goes white.. and then i have to give it a soft reboot n den it hangs on its O2 welcome screen then by pressing 5-6 times soft reboot key and den after some time its open.. its sound is not upto mark.. can any one suggest me if i upgrade its rom software .. will it help????... pls m stuck in this o2 atom.. worst pda i have ever use.. before that i had o2 mini that is 200% better than this one. n i have motorola a1200 ming fone also.. that moto work better than o2 atom... pls help wat shud i do to solve my atom's problem??????????????????

I like the design and features. it's just, its all in te packaging and not perfectly functioning as it is. I have the worst experience on this PDA, it's always hanging (approx 10x a day), short battery life and so may software bugs.O2 Service centers is dumb to entertain my problem, they said its normal. Better to buy Dopod. The cost is not worth buying for. Not a good option for a PDA or a phone.

Before my comments,just like to warn those who are used to the normal cellphone user.Better consider buying other model cause this is a PDA phone NOT a Huge difference compare to other phones in terms of smsing,calling etc. Design- Great! Slim,nice and neat,beat many PDA on the market. Features- 1.Ringing tone is seriously soft wonder why O2 didn't improved on this.As expected you will have problem downloading MP3 to this phones.For those computer Geek you can save the MP3 songs under the file windows/rings to set it. For those who don't know how will try using the notes > record feature.After recording its will be automatically save under ring1.So you can play your fav MP3 song,record and YES !! You get your MP3 ringtone (but the volume is still low compare to other phones) 2.PDA feature is good as this phones is supported by Window Mobile 5.0. 3.Support Wi-fi a MUST have for PDA phone.Yes i mean what's the point in buying a PDA hp without Wi-fi? 4.Support MPS,wmv file so downloading music is possible but i wouldn't use it too much ( wonder why ppl like music phones.Ipod is the way to go.) 5.SMS,MMS,Email-phones support all this but sms is not as easy as it's is on normal cell phone.For freq. PDA user it should be piece of cake but for a newbie good luck mastering the strokes heehee. 6.Camera 2mega pixel(video) is really not that bad.The only problem is after pressing the capture button picture will only be taken after 2-3 secs so you have to hold the phone real still during this.Picture capture looks goods trust me better than some mobile phone!! Performance- Firstly my O2 never hang on me.Not even once.Speed is fast but memory need improvement.Forget MP3.Camera is good.SMS require two hands.Calling and answering can be done by just touching the screen.(well done O2).Recption is great,i am suprise by the super clarity and crispy voice i hear. Battery sucks.If you freq surf battery drop damn fast.Other than that normal usage should last for 2-3 days (Provide you turnoff those backlight,remainders etc) Hope my comments here help.This is the first time i am using a PDA hp and O2 defintely didn't disappoint me all though that is much room for improvement !!

The phone/PDA has been great for the past 4 months - until I used the FM radio. While the radio worked alright, I can no longer hear any music or ringtones, use the phone without a headset. I have done a hard reset, then did the ROM upgrade, fiddled with the radio settings, to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

Download a loud ringtone - I got CTU_24.WAV. Also - Try Phonealarmlite (google for it) this is a great application to add to you r phone for managing ringing volume, profiles, SMS Alert volumes - its brilliant. Other people have said Turn on the EQualizer - helps with volume.

Just to let you guys know in case you have a similiar problem. I have another problem with the phone. I've met with some problems since my last post.. I was charging my o2 pure overnight.. when I woke up, the phone had hung. None of my calls/smses could come in. Tried to do many soft & hard resets over a period of 4 days to no avail, it just wouldn't boot past the o2 screen. Since I was entitled to a 1-for-1 exchange at that point, I went down to my phone provider centre to get a replacement set. The 1st new replacement set (box with o2 seal) had a faulty antenna. The sound was fine. Both myself and the cust svc person tested several SIMcards on it to no avail. So it was marked faulty and brought back in. The 2nd new replacement set (box also with o2 seal) seemed fine, but I didn't get to test the sound as I was running out of time. I'm currently using it. I only found out about the speaker problem when I brought it home. There's a low hissing noise from the speakers, and the phone emits a very high-pitched sound when I turn on the LCD. The speakers sound like they're not plugged in properly .. as in certain audio layers can't be heard, even when the equalizer is turned on. The 1st set I originally had (the one which hung) gave crystal clear, solid sound quality and had no high-pitched sound. I'm going to try a ROM upgrade on this current phone. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to go to the O2 centre. I must say, though, that this has been a very disappointing experience for me. I am not a fussy customer, but 3 faulty phones, all NIB, in a row is abit much. O2 had better buck up or they'll lose their customers fast! =T

Will, Just got my Atom last Friday and it has crashed 3 to 4 times. On 2 occasions soft & hard resets did not solve problem. Eventually after charging about 4 hours I managed to restart it. Just crashed again when I was going taking photos and going through the camera features & after being unable to soft & hard reseet I am recharging it now. Just received it 2 days ago -my first pda/phone! After charging it about 2 hours I started testing it and was pleasantly surprised with the many features. However the screen suddenly went dark [hanged? ] and even after charging it for 5 to 6 hours the screen still could not be turned on even while the phone was being charged. Finally managed to get it working by soft resetting it. Can someone advise what caused it to do this and is this going to be a regular feature? Any permanent solutuons please. Thanks very much. I luv the PC Part of it, it's soo flexible with the wifi and windows software. The only thing i really hated about it, and this caused me to sell it the first week i got it, was the extremely poor reception. Sometimes for a whole day i would have no reception while on other phones i'd have at least half the reception full. This was very annoying

As per a friend's recommendation, I did a ROM upgrade as soon as I bought my o2 atom pure (white) this week. The o/s has been very stable so far, no issues with calls. However, this classy baby still has 2 major performance issues that prevent it from being a hit. 1 - The speakers fare poorly at slightly louder volumes. Sound quality is very good up till 77% of full base volume (meaning w/o equalizer). But at 78%-100% of full base volume, the sound becomes distorted and the sound "trembles" painfully. The equalizer does a great job of boosting sound quality, but its effects are handicapped by the speakers' limitations. 2 - Slow Wordprocessing speed. There is a slight lag in registering letters. If you're the sort who SMSes often, this will really frustrate you. Using the transcriber is like trying to paint letters with sticky UHU glue. The strokes keep "sticking" and that forces you to write like a primary 1 child. Letter recognition also seems to have deproved slightly since the o2 mini. The keyboard is more bearable, but I still had to slow down my typing (or rather, tapping) speed. Some other stuff that other folks might mind : - The battery life easily depleted, recommended to keep a spare battery closeby. - Phone vibration is not too strong (as compared with o2 mini) - Camera a tad slow to capture pictures, although image quality is good - The O2 earphones look like they're from Mars (a stranger sitting next to me laughed along when she overheard me making that comment. We were both in the middle of purchasing the same phone at the same shop.) I'm still pretty happy with my phone despite the 2 major issues. I hope o2 releases a patch to fix the laggy wordprocessor soon, because that's the biggest sore point for me. I dunno if anything can be done about the speakers, since it appears to be a hardware limitation, but it's something I can tolerate. :D

Geek or no geek that is not the issue. The phone stink. Hang as often as anyone care to remember. At times it reset by itself! Is it a problem with Windows or has it to do with Atom's hardware? Either way dont waste your money finding out. This piece is not worth the bread.

Upgrade or no upgrade the O2 Atom is a pricey toy not worth the money. Camera is hopelessly slow and hard to operate. Replay of photos taken is also not user friendly at all. Speakers stinks - soft and distorted. Windows hang more than I care to remember. The last one during a critical time when I was driving. My biggest mistake by the Atom was like being hit by one.

I found a cool PocketPC video player that is freeware that can handle avi, mpg, mov, M4a, aac, wmv, divx. Quite versatile and easy to use. It has it's own equallizer and volume control. akoyitakma For ROM Upgrade go to www.o2.com , register , and you'll be able to download it. Rom Upgrade is a software upgrade for the phone - issued in March this year, it makes the phone faster, better ,more reliable, etc.. very important to do this if you have not already.

Haridheren, I do face the same problem like u. However, I do not what is wrong with the phone. Suspected it's the software problem. The trick is to have the chorus, of course a short churos, as a ringtone & set it to ring once. This will definitely save u from some embarrassment moments.

This is by far the worst phone I have ever used. When I say that I mean the phone component is not worth squat. Continually drops out, voice breaks up, people cant hear you properly, you cant hear people properly, static over the line. Basically anywhere where it isnt super quiet with maximum signal the phone performs worse than some of the first mobiles ever released. Before you say it, I have done every ROM upgrade possible and made every tweak possible (elec engineering background so I'm no dummy). As a PDA i have to say its great but kinda falls short on the important part and that is making calls. Only had it for 2 months then made a switch to Nokia E60. Lost a lot of features but at least i can hear the other person when speaking on the phone. My opinion, if you want a phone more than a pda then look elsewhere...

yup once you upgraded your atom everything will run smooth,and lemme add one more thing, if you usually use your atom as mp3 player try downloading SCREEN SWITCH so you can turn off your atom even playing music, and save more battery.

I have a problem with my Atom, speakers go silent by itself after a while as it I put it on silent myself. I check every thing and look normal. To get the speakers working I have to soft rest, any idea why? or I have something wrong with speakers

OMG the PHONE QUALITY SUCKS A$$!!!! Everyone tells me I sound like a Robot on the phone and the sound is Soooooooo Low... I can hardly hear the other person and have to repeat myself constantly to whom ever I am speaking to. I even have the Latest ROM upgrade and it did nothing for sound quality during calls!! I was scared to get the O2 Atom after reading all the horrible things ppl had to say about it, but man lemme tell you, its AWESOME !!! I dunno what ppl r talkin about on here...which is a good thing. I do have the latest ROM update and all, maybe thats why, but its awesome and FASTER than MOST PPCs out there that I have used. However, I have to agree, what the heck were they thinking calling the camera a 2.0 Megapixel??? It looks like a 0.2 Megapixel! Seriously, they shouldnt be able to get away with this!! Its a shame... anyhow, other than that, its a ROCKING MaCHINe!!! I recommend it to Anyone who doesnt want a camera in their phone.

Dun have to download additional s/w. Just go to Start -> Setting -> Connection -> Beam (uncheck the box) -> Turn on BT -> Go to the file u wana send then tap Beam file. Your device will take awhile to detect other BT devices. Send file to the desired recipient.

@ danielwu (linksys problem) I suggest you turn on MAC FILTERING in linksys. Then, key in the MAC Address of your PC and O2Atom. This is secure fast and no need to type passwords to get a connection. Hope this helps..

Have you uninstalled , rebooted, and then gone throug a fresh re-install of latest version of Activesync? (Make srue you have latest version or the one tat came in box with Atom). is it connecting to the pocket pc?. then try 1 thing at a time , like syncing To-Do's, then Calendar, then mail.. do it in small steps to prove whats working or not.

I am very frustrated. My 02Mini has been replaced with an 02 Atom (black case), and in spite of hours of effort I cannot get activesync to work. The autodiagnostic suggested some changes to Firewall which were made, but even with the firewall off...to no avail. Is this a piece of crap or does it actually sync as Windows4 used to.

hi, juz gotten atm exec days ago. 2 main problems: - ability to connect to my wireless router (wifi) intermittent. When I'm lucky it connects. Else, even if I manually connect it is says "Available". Btw, my wireless router supports both 802.11 b and g stds. - ActiveSync never worked till date. The version in companion CD is version 4.0. I downloaded and tried versions 4.1, 4.2 and 4.5 beta. None worked. When trying to connect, it says "Retrieving registering information" and hung there. On the Atom itself, status is: "ActiveSync encountered a problem in the desktop. For Low Ringtone problem : 1) switch equalizer ON that helps 2) download a 'loud' ringtone gpo.wav is what i use (google for it). 3) try phonealarm lite - thats great for helping with ring tones etc.free trial - try it.

Kelvin have you run the 'Auto Configurator' in the Programs menu that should setup GPRS. Once GPRS is setup you should be able to use MSN.

Are you getting an IP addres and connecting to your wifi router - check that first. Then - check on connection settings that 'this connection uses proxy' is correct (normally unchecked).

Actually, I just installed a poor version of the program and all I had to do was uninstall it then my screen worked again. Though it was NOT easy to browse through the phone without a touch screen. Good thing I had my bluetooth keyboard with all the shortcuts ready.

I'll try to help some of your problems: - Battery need to be charged on a daily basis Set back up light to lower than 5, it's bright enough, set it to turn off after 30 seconds, power save after 3 minutes, turn off screen when listening to music. This should help it last at least 2 days. - camera is below average,unless bieng is a bright day light. Play around with the settings a bit and make sure you don't move the camera for 2.5 seconds after the shutter sound. - if you use it in the car to call, then you need to be very carefull. Install vjphoneshortcuts, it can help you get a button shortcut to call history. - install the necessory programs only,or it becomes slow. Install on memory card only and always stop all programs you are not using in "memory" then it should be always fast. - it doesnt insert a cantact info into a text message, you have to put it as a vcard in a MMS !!!!! Don't know what you mean....

Been using this phone for almost 3-4 mths and it's been doing quite well. But my only main concern is that "IT'S THE VIDEO QUALITY!!". How am I able to "at least" reach 10fps? I have experienced the same problem, after being supplied two O2 atoms with the Buzz noise my provider agreed to supply me with a HP rw6828, I now have that same static noise from behind the LCD, Its a problem with the factory and I cant beleive o2 say that this is not a fault. I have spoken to O2 and HP support, the only response is to send it back at my expense. Neither recommended.

I have two questions. When I soft reset it tells me to do auto configuration but since I live in Canada, none of it makes any sense. Is there a way for it to not ask me anymore? Or is there a way to set it for Canada? Also, when I watch news with journal bar sometimes it tries to connect with GPRS. I don't use GPRS because I don't want to pay for it, is there a way to disable it permanently until I want it on?

I have problem connecting o2 atom to linksys router WRT54G. does anyone know how to configure linksys router so that i could use o2 atom to connect to it? these are the problems: if i set linksys router> advance wireless setting> transmission rate to 54mbps, o2 atom will not be able to connect to it! it just show as available! but if i just set to auto mode it can be connected succesfully! however if i set to auto mode my PC will have very very slow connection to the internet. can any expert give me some idea on how to configure it? so that i could use both my pc at fast connection and o2 atom able to be connected to the internet! The email thing you are talking about is called PUSH email . Only some email providers give you this option. You need to ask your email provider. To do WiFi : Go to Settings/Connections and open the WiFi Utility. Click'menu' and 'turn on wifi' then look in 'site survey'tab. Select the network you want to connect to and it should connect. Then open internet explorer and surf

To see your memory card - plug the phone into PC and use the 'EXPLORE' button in the ActiveSync window, drag& drop files onto it. When you install pgms it asks you 'main memory' or 'memory card' if you chose mem card it installs into memory card.

U need to think about data input -if you're going to do lots of SMS/Work stuff then the input method is important. The full keyboard on the palm will be useful. Atom is a pain in ass to do input on without a t9 keypad hack (see this forum's back pages). Other than that - Palm cmpatibility with word/etc is a problem. I use ATOM for work email, calendar sync, etc. Battery life is 24hrs. no where near my old nokia but hten my old nokia wasnt a PC.... it was a phone.

Hi, Just bought this cell phone, works well.. I cant seem to set up a customized mp3 file for text msg notification, I've tried it copying down to the folder where other files are installed (alarm1.. etc) but it wont show up on the list in the phone. Am i missing something? Thanks

- Put the .wav file in the same directory as Windows wav files (alarm1 etc) - go into the system/sounds ¬ifications, drop down to 'new text message' and hten chose your special alarm tone from the 2nd drop down. - To get your email settings you need to ask your provider. If you google the question Im sure you'll find the answer on the web.

Anyone has tried to record phone conversation? I tried to record but the other party's voice is very very faint and barely audible when i play it but was loud and clear over the phone conversation. I have also noticed that I cant use the headset and record phone conversation at the same time. Anyone else has this difficulty?

You need to get your email server settings from your email provider - like hotmail or gmail they have specific settings for these bits. You can change alert tones - have a look in settings.

I guess you could try to re-flash the rom since it boots - get the rom from O2 website and install it... if it fails after that i guess u need take it to hostipal

TO NK, I think ur ROM version have a bugs or erroe thats why ur phone is not working proparly. Go to ur nearest O2 workshope.

12lrS12 - You should be able to charge to max on usb. - If you look back a few pages on this forum there area alot of posts for s/w unlock codes for sPBsoftwraehouse stuff - and a t9 phone pad that you will want too - that makes SMS easier.

I bought this phone 2 days ago and here is a few comments from me incase anyone is considering this phone: The version I have is a HK-EN version bought with the May ROM update installed. And my previous phone was a SE P800 so there may be some comparisons to symbian. Pro's: -Fast processor -Memory/Running programs option, you can turn off some bacground programs to have it run even faster -Small design, small even with a carrying case -Good resolution screen and can adjust to bright or dark -Very flexible with many programs available since there are many windows mobile devices. -Flawless SNES emulator, you don't need any mobile games when you have a whole SNES available with all the best games, except for sudoku. -Buttons are flexible, you can set three buttons to any shortcuts you want. I have them set as Camera, Voice dial, and Contacts -Sound/Music, very good clarity and sharpness, or bass with sound since there is an equalizer so you can make every ringtone sound the best. The loudest settings show the limited bass and sharpness flaws but it happens to all mobile speakers. -MiniSD, it's cheap, it's small, it's perfect -No Hanging, I haven't had any slowed or hanging problems except for once when I randomly installed some program to it and forced it to run, but this isn't too bad as well since there is a soft reset button, you don't need to take out the battery to reset it. -CE Paint, it's free to download and works just like MS paint, simple program but I can't live without drawing on my mobile -FM radio, I don't listen to radio but I played with it anyways. Automatically scanned for all the channels in my area, most of it had great reception and quality, better than my car's reception. -Call history, shows all calls and what it was such as incoming, outgoing, ignored. -Strong signal strength, haven't had any weakened signals yet compared to the P800 when it was noticeably weak at times. -File Explorer, you won't ever run into those problems in older mobiles where you don't know how to access files in certain non-default folders -ROM updates, they can be done yourself for free -Screen rotation, it�s allowed and what else can I say? -Today, the main screen, most of the main things can be toggled there such as, Time, Date, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, Messages, Tasks, Calender, Email, Phone, Contacts. It�s definitely better than having a wallpaper that says Rogers. Con's: -Camera Delay, when you take a photo you count "3, 2, 1, 0!" but you will find that the photo actually takes a photo of -2 in "3, 2, 1, 0, -1, -2". To compensate you must count and click from 2 in "3, 2, 1, 0" -Holding functions, some functions such as calender dates require you to hold on the screen for a second, which is an irritating process. -Battery life is not great, you have to use "turn device off after 3 min" otherwise it won't last over 2 days for sure. -Handsfree/headphones, they are the wierdest headphones ever and they don't fit very well. -Dialing, hard to dial as a normal cellphone especially in the car. This can be compensated by using voice dial which has worked very well so far. -Contacts, it sorts alphabetically by last name. I don't know everyone's last name except for a few ones that are common such as Tony, John, and others but they are all mixed such as you would get the order as "Barbara, Chan Tony, Cherry" and it would be hard to browse. Between Con and Pro: -Typing and recognition, it's not easy to get used to it and I don't see any instructions as well. It would be normal pace to write a paragraph on P800 but this would take significantly longer. I hope it will get better later. With symbian you can just write on the screen but for this one you need to open up the �recognizer� to write so it�s another slower feature. -Calender, the calender works fine but it's slower to use effectively compared to symbian's calender, but I like the reminder at the Today main menu to show what is next in my schedule. -The crystal carrying case fits very well and closely with an opneing screen flap like the Motorola A1200 which helps me retain a high resale value incase I want to change phones later on. -The Think Outside stowaway bluetooth keyboard works perfectly so I can take notes and record meetings with this and microsoft word. It's also very useful when playing the SNES with the keyboard with fullscreen. -Internet browsing, it works, it's not great, and typing is acceptable. Resolution is great though for seeing small words and more in a page. The only thing I would use it for is to check email and emergencies.

Lowell, You might want to try using the Auto Configurator before you decide to uninstall anything. This application actually gets the Service Provider's information from your SIM card & set it in your phone automatically.

Hi, I just installed the latest patch. So far, the performance improved but I have a brand new problem with the messaging. Messaging doesnt work anymore. I can receive nor send SMS with that. SMS can only be done using SMS plus which is not user friendly. Although I see a notification that I have unread messages, they are not updated to my O2 SMS plus right away. Not to mention, I can't set any SMS alert for O2 sms plus. Is it possible for me to activate the old messaging and deactivate the O2 SMS plus? cheers lowell

This Is with Ref. To O2 XDA Atom ( IMEI No. 357553000119898) brought from ALFA-Mumbai on 17/02/2006. Bill No. B/211. On 13/04/2006 after changing the Sim card the get got hanged and refused to work. On inquiring about it to a local dealer I was directed towards ACCEL FRONTLINE LTD., (Connection Center - Pune) Where Mrs. Prabha V attended me. Who in turn informed me that the set is to be sent at H.O. Chennai and would take at least 20 days Ref. BMW-PUN-P-254 ON 13/05/2006 I was informed by the Pune office that the set has come back without being repaired and that the set is not under warranty on reproducing the XEROX copy of the bill the set was once again sent to Chennai the entire R.F. Board has been changed as a result the IMEI No of the set was changed to 357553000042132 and the set was delivered to me on 20/05/2006. 24 days later on 13/06/2006 I encountered the following problems. � Blue tooth was not being discovered by other Hand sets � Windows Media player the file is getting Open only Once � Handset was getting hanged � The set was connected to P.C. but was not getting synchronized � Camera was not taking the correct picture & clarity is an issue The set was again back with ACCEL FRONTLINE LTD. (Connection Center-Pune) where Mrs. Prabha V had to once again send it to H.O.- Channai (Ref.MBL-PUN-50020) This time the set was delivered to me on 23/06/2006 again with R.F board changed & the new IMEI No was 357553005001331 The first four problems were solved but the Camera Problem Remained as under. The image that is to be captured is focused & after the button is pressed the image is shown on the screen for about 2sec. Approximately after which the click sound accurse at this instance if the physical position of the set is changed it looses the original image captured & the one stored in the memory is different than what was focused Although the clarity was improved but it still not satisfactory as compared to Nokia (N70) or Sony (K750i) As per Talks with MR. UmaShankar at H.O.-Chennai in presence with MRS. Prabha V regarding the Camera Problem I was told that the latest software up gradation (i.e. RADIO: R060428N_MNIARC_RS00049; ROM: 20060426BIWWE) & the change of R.F. Board is the least that can be done from our side with no further improvement. Each time I suffered with the loss of all my contact Nos. as backup could not be taken also some time while using the set the entire screen goes white and the set stops responding only after removing the battery of a master reset will restart the set. And all the setting saved are changed the handwriting file saved in the transcriber cannot be loaded for use I had to call your service center no. daily for the status of the set. Need less to mention the countless trips. I had to make to your service office due to bad service which not only disturb me routine work but also caused frustration. Now the reliability of the set is a Question to be asked. I am not sure weather the set would work properly in future & the 2MP camera is a shame to click with. As it cannot capture even a still picture correctly forget the moving once

Jow, I think what u are trying to ask is whether this Atom can be used to surf net. Yes, either by WIFI or GPRS. U have to check for both the services at your local site and service provider, respectively.

Guys, I have had my Atom for about 6 months. Had constant problems with crashing, freezing, slowness to begin with. Upgraded with 3 lots of new ROMS losing all data before now being in a position where mostly the product runs o.k. O2 nicely implied they were doing users a favour by providing software upgrades that actually work at no further charge. The only exception to my current acceptance of the product are the phone function, camera, and synching. Outbound call connection only successful about 60% of the time, incoming better. Reception seems to be worse than with my previous basic nokia. Camera has delay of about 2 seconds from push of button to capture of image. Synch is only successful about 50% of the time. This is all with latest ROM upgrade, no memoery card, with no foreigh software and regularly closing of running programs. Have unsuccessfully pursued O2 for refund.

Hi Audrey, I dun think we can increase the internal memory. However, the external memeory card comes with 512MB, 1G & 2G storage. Try to store third party applications, softwares, games & songs in the Mini SD instead. Free up as much internal memory as possible so that your system will run faster. To use mp3 file as a ringtone, just store the song in the memory card, not in any folder. U will be able to choose it from the Setting -> Phone -> Ring Type. If u have already done so, then erase it from Windows -> Rings.

Ben, I hv both installed but the consumption is still high. I think the culprit is my Transcend mini sd 1G 80x. I tried taking it out and after 6 hours the battery bar drop to 96% only. Anyone with the same problem?...buying another mini sd is not an option at the moment as i hv just bought the current mini sd.

Nas, U might want to download the O2 Plus application. It helps to reduce the consumation of the battery when the application is installed. hello O2 users, i recently got O2 Atom Exec. And I am not liking it. Not at all user friendly. I am having these problems: 1. When I receive call on O2 (i.e without Earphones/Bluetooth Earphone) the other person can't hear me at all. Either I have to shout (if possible) or have to use headset. 2. Can't hear music thru speakers on the phone when playing mediaplayer or O2MediaPlus. Any help will be appreciated. Already done hard reset once.

Kat, it is perfectly all right for your battery. It is recommended for initial charging of any new battery to be at least 6 - 8 hrs. A new Lithium-ion battery will benefit from an initial "conditioning" of the battery. For the first 3 charge cycles, fully charge the battery overnight and allow it to fully discharge before recharging.Once conditioned, Lithium-ion batteries will perform best when charged at a rate somewhere between a conventional slow charge and a rapid charge. When rapid charging, Lithium-ion batteries require a charger designed to charge Lithium batteries. To achieve a true full charge when rapid charging, the battery needs to be slow charged the last 10-15% of its charge cycle. A Lithium-ion battery may be damaged by extensive overcharging (continuously on a charger for more than 24 hours).

i just fully charged my atom yesterday, and it says 8 hrs initial charging time. it also says that when charging, the amber light is on. but when i was charging, after 2 hrs, the amber light already went off. did that mean that it was fully charged already? although the light went out,. i did not unplug the charger, i still charged it for 8 hrs. was that normal, the amber light turning off even before i reach the prescribed inital charging time? i'm worried there might be a prob with my batt or something.

kat: removing battery to change sim-card does not effect anything to the things you save to phone memory such as appointments & notes. Tried this several times before. Steve: HPipaq is the same as O2 atom. In fact i was considering buying that HP series u mentioned coz its practically a copy of O2atom with cheaper price, but my friend told me that some O2 software applications cannot be use in HP such as the fax features. That's why i decided to just stick to O2.

I have 1gb mini-sd card - it is no problem. Some applications it is better to install in 'main memory' like Today Plugins... for faster access but 1gb SD card is fine for Mp3 / Video/file storage/backup etc.

Kat - It does not lose any data when you take the battery out to swap Sim Cards. You can use the phone without a Sim Card as just a PDA as well .

I have had 2 O2 Atoms recently and am just about to recieve my 3rd replacement. The 1st 2 both made a slight hissing sound from speakers when switched on. The 1st one did it straight out of the box where as the 2nd one only started making the sound after the 1st week. I have spoeken to several people about it and have recieved a variety of answers ranging from it is normal to it is a fault that only affects a particular series. Can anyone offer any advice on the problem?

Kat, almost everything is the same for atom n atom exec except that the latter has more ROM n faster processor n matte-finish. the atom has a glossy casing which attracts fingerprint easily. i believe atom exec comes included a IR keyboard, but u have to check with the dealer/seller on whether it is included with the atom exec in respective country.

Please dont waste your money on this product. I bought Atom Exec two months ago and since then I have series of problem. I have send for repairs three times already. The speaker is useless, the system hangs frequently and tI have already have to replace the screen, it cracks easily. It is not worth at all to invest in any Atom product. I am looking for other reliable brand of PDA now.

- Alarm clock , go into Settings/Systems/Clocks & alarms - there are 3 alarms there you can set. (rememebr to turn speaker volume up before you go to bed !! ) - Phone Ring Tone - download a loud ringtone/.sms tone - gpo.wav is very loud - google for it. I use PhoneAlarmLite - try that too its great app for Atom 15$US

Can someone advise the best settings for Atom for use with MS VoiceCommand program, which I find to be so useful when it works. Previously, I used VoiceCommand on my XDA Mini and it worked perfectly. Now, I can't seem to get the right settings for the Atom to recognise my voice when there is even small amount of background noise present. It is OK when there is no background noise present.

OK my ringer is decent - well at least almost as good as my original Pure. I should note that O2 Support has been quite helpful, but they say they'd need to look at the unit to se if there is aproblem. I am heading home to the US in two weeks, so this is not an option for me. Has anyone retrofitted new speakers to the unit? I've seen people do this on similar products. Of course you'd have to be brave enough to break through the tiny "void" stickers over the screws.

Do soft reset (using stylus in hole at bottom) then press the red or green phone key or both maybe - whilst this is happening it will gie you a menu and ask are you sure... doing this puts it back to factory state (apart from ROM upgrade)

OK I have a complaint. On my Pure the sound out of the speakers was very low and not great, but OK. I was able to get an acceptable ring using MP3s as ring tones. But on this machine the sound from any of the speakers is just TERRIBLE! I am running the latest firmware, though I suspect this is an older machine seeing as how I got it in China. There is significant distortion with any ring, and even in vibrate mode. It is embarrassing. Not that I would do this, but listening to music through the loudspeaker is impossible. So is there a fix to this?

Got it working. Sometimes I think it's best to walk away for a while. :) I did not see proxy boxes for GPS, but I changes my authentication method. I think what triggered it was I stumbled upon a connection/network setting that was not defaulted to my Home network. Now all is well. Just have to figure out how to install the T9 .cab. Thanks!

You should not have proxy setup if you dont need one on your normal PC on the same wifi network. Make sure that you have the proxy boxes unchecked on the GPRS network settings - for some reason my wifi will try to use my gprs proxy settings if the box is checked.

Can someone tell me how to set my network connection to get to the Internet? I have my wifi connected to a wifi router and can ping the machines on my network no problem, but when I try to connect to any Internet service it says "cannot Connect with Yout Current network settings" or something like that. It might be helpful if the people who have problems with the Atom state whether or not they have upgraded the ROM to the latest version (I suspect that they have not). I heard all of this stuff ages ago and nearly didnt buy the atom because of it, but I paid carefull attention to those that did upgrade the ROM and they all seemed positive about the Atom. So I bought it and upgraded straight away. I have upgraded the ROM whenever a new one came out and all is well with mine. It does everything just fine, speedy, camera works (just not useful for action shots). I do agree that the headphones are crap though. Also check out the latest version called the exec if you are buying from new, it is meant to be a slight improvement based on more RAM and faster CPU.

Agree Tim... The O2 Atom before Rom Upgrade = Awful After Rom UPgrade = Very Very good machine. I did have to buy PhoneAlarm Lite to sort out loud ring tone/msg alerts, and I have some trouble hearing calls from speaker but that might be me being a bit deaf. The t9Phonepad hack is a great addition too. The earpiece is a joke its not usable so budget to buy yourself a bluetooth headset and a few bucks for some extra utility s/w.

Wow so much negativ comments about the Atom. Almost like some competitor is posting to discredit the product! FYI I bought my first Atom Pure and LOVED it. It had the latest firmware already installed so it was user friendly out of the box. Then i added a bunch of stuff and it was a great tool and entertainment product. Then I lost it! And yesterday I bought ANOTHER one. It was actually a Chinese version but the guy changed it to English. I had to upgrade the ROM though, and now everything is fine. I just need to add all the games and stuff again. The phone takes some work if you are not used to Mindows Mobile or computers in genral - as do all PocketPC machines. This is my first and I give it a 9 out of 10. Tim

Do not buy this phone. the first one packed up on arrival. Dropped calls, camera did not work etc. Received a new one after one week. Same problems . No download connect, calls dropped againLCD screen crumbled, camera would not work, battery went out fast. They are currently repairing the second one, its been two months.

hi sia, there is a software available called sprite backup. it is amazing. u back up ur phone onto the sd or mini sd card. it takes about 7-10 mind for a full backup. it backs up the whole damn phone including ur msg, wallpaper ect. when u restore, it is exactly how u backed up. also has automatic backup options of time or battery life. i am using it for 2 years and it is great cheers ilyas

you all should upgrade the new rom befor complain about the atom. i have the phone for 6 months and never have any problem. Yes, at the start. it were running slow and crab. it fine now after the may rom. For media player. i find the later Beta player (0.71) run very good. Search in google. it's free to download.

You are right ..... the phone when back almost immediately few days after payment and took me almost one month to get it fixed...ultmately new replacement.... now.... after few ROM upgrade (latest).....is like gambling to open a video files that is more than 10M.... sometimes it open but sometimes just failed....

Sofia, To install softwares in your Atom. You will need to have your Atom connected via USB on your PC. You can find lots of games and software on the internet. You have to pay for most of the games & softwares. However, I have posted close 20 serial numbers related to the different softwares available. You may find them in this forum if you look at the past month or two's postings. As for pictures. You may open Activesync > explore > my device, then drag and drop and photos you want and Activesync will do the rest. Although the Atom is an excellant phone/PDA be aware the screen is extremely fragile and a drop from less then a metre will be enough to crack the screen and leave you with a $300+ repair bill. If you are considering buying an Atom either take out insurance or buy a very well padded case. Also - any minor impact to the side of the phone will stress the unprotected LCD glass and may crack it.

Hi, Ishyboy I use Atom but not the Executive. I don't know about the others' but my battery would only last for 2 days. I hardly use the Wi-Fi and phone. And when I use it for calls, the unit really gets hot. I don't use the Music Player either coz the audio is very, very soft. I can't even tune in to FM.

Hey guys, I bought my atom on the 27th Jan 2006. Upgraded to the latest software then. It work well initially then annoying problems came up once in a while. But after the recent major upgrade in June, my atom works perfectly! Love it the first time i bought it, had minor arguments with it but after further counselling, our relationship is on a cruise for our second honeymoon! ;) BTW, can we really upgrade to the atom exec specs? Hammer, I posted a while ago to sing the praises of the I-tech R35. It is a BT clip that lets you plug in your favorite 3.5mm earbuds/headphones. You just clip it to your shirt pocket or whatever. It also controls the music functions on the Atom which is cool. Did you buy your Atom in Shanghai? If so where? I lost mine and need another, but the prices are very high here. There is no Lotus Notes synch platform with WM5 because Microsoft totally re-wrote the ActiveSync base for WM5 - so developers had to re-write all the Lotus s/w to work. You can use Websphere Everyplace Client but it requires server-side installation... your IT team are unlikely to want to play. There is a plug in from MS to let you see Lotus mail /diary through Outlook - maybe you could do that and synch to outlook locally.

Annie, It is a little annoying. The "power" button only puts the unit in sleep mode. To completely power it off you have to go to your USB, WiFi, and Phone page. I forget what this is called but if you just click USB or WiFi from your Today screen you will see it. Turn the Phone to Off as well as the other connections. Then when you hit the power button the Atom is truly off Guy in the US looking for an Atom. I'd go eBay or wait for the HP iPaq RW6828 if you need local support. Tim

This phone sucks, it still does not charge properly using the usb car charger, still you have to rest it when you loose signal. so if you got to make a call when you lost signal prepare to wait 5mins for the phone to reboot before you make a call, thats really stupid. SE p990 is going to be much better than this crap. I am going to sell mine on ebay and get what i can.

O2 Atom EXEC is announced...it has the better processor than this one it is 520Mhz instaed of 412 and i think it is equiped the the software that qtek 9600 has. it will be launched at the end of july or maybe inbetween.

Re: Scratches.. I didnt pay for my phone, its a work phone, so I dont really take care of it... Ive had it 3mths and no scratches on the case. It travels all over place with me all over asia on planes etc chucked into briefcase - its pretty good and looks new still.

HOLD YOUR PURCHASES!! I just brought my O2 Atom, and it is giving out this very high frequency static noise coming out from top part of the phone as soon as the screen is turned on. I later found out that this happens to some of the Atom, and O2 does not consider this is a fault and will not exchange/fix it!! I will escalate this with O2 and see what happen next. I bought this phone in Dec 2005 when it was launched. It had a lot of problems in the first but after i updated the latest rom. It works beautifully. This phone has it all, Looks, performance, features. Only be carefull not to install anything on the main memmory but instead install it on the card memory.

Dana: You just need a 2.5MM to 3.5MM adapter. Should be able to find one anywhere they sell headphones. In Shanghai mine cost 5 RMB. About BT: The Atom supports A2DP for stereo sound, as well as AVCRP for remote control and voice. Just make sure you get a headset with both of these features. I personally tried the iPhono (sorry forgot model#) that clips on your ear. I returned them and got the ravely review I-tech R35 clip. With this you can use whatever headphones you like and remotely control your unit. I love it. I MISS MY ATOM!

Hi I am planning to buy a pda phone.I was very impressed with the O2 atom except for on concern relating to mms support in india. A friend of mine bought the atom about 6 months ago.He has updated to the latest ROM.But he is not able to send mms.He has an airtel connection and the settings which he received from airtel for his mms doesn't seem to work.he is not able to send mms messages.on enquiry with Airtel he has been told that his phone(o2 atom) supports a different version of mms and due to incompatibility with the mms service provided by airtel, he is not able to send mms or receive mms. please advice.has anyone else faced this problem and solved it ?.can the mms settings be configures manually.(GPRS works on the phone). Hi, I find that the Atom is good but not like the Mini. The battery last's lesser time than the mini though I have the same usage and the same application. I also find that the phone hangs a lot and needs to be reset many time. This all after applying the latest update upto May2006. The new Activesync 4.1 is also less user friendly. In 3.8 we could sync selective contacts, and also files to the SD card but this activesync is useless. You have to do it all manually. I have tired contacting O2 Guys but they seem to be helpless with Microsoft not supporting them

Raman, There's no way to configure your Activesync to sync all your files from your memory card. You gotta drag & drop your files from pc to Atom or the other way around for updates. There's no other way around as far as I know. That's what I've been doing. If anyone has a better way, please share it w/ us. Thanks -Will

Hammer, Make sure your Atom is connected to your pc before you do this. Go to this link & click download (not download cab): Then when the download box pops up, you click run. When download is over, you accept the terms & condi... and you click 'Install registered version' & you punch in this serial: 30372645 Then Activesync will do the rest. IMO Atom sux, i just cam back to see what people are saying about it and guys the ph been out since Jan 06 so 6mths later there are still problems. And if there is a new rom update don't thank O2 you fools they just get it from the same company that makes similar version for other mobile ph companies. hi! i have used the O2 atom for about 3 months now. With the recent ROM upgrade most of the problems ( phone hanging, poor camera, voice drop etc) have been ironed out. The camera is okay, and the phone handles decently. Only problem is the voice quality, which screeches at times. I thought this was a problem only with my phone and checked out new ones at the store and found that all 02 atom phones had the same shrill voice quality. so I wouldnt recommend this for people with sensitive ears. 2) Also if you talk longer than 15 minutes on a call, the phone heats up and u can feel the heat in your cheek for quite some time after that. I also have an Imate pocketpc and by far nothing can beat its voice quality or the fact that it never gets hot. Cheers! rick.

Atom is really cool after the ROM upgrade. It's faster, smoother and all the other lackings are gone. But did anyone check the USB modem conectivity issue? Atom didn't come with USBModem_dialer and I have tired all possible ways(that i could think of and searched out) to connect. it just dosen't work. i'm pretty sure that it's not the hardware issue, may be the driver is needed. if anyone has any idea of where i can download is plz lemme know. My O2 had an Audio problem. Mainly the speakers gave up after only 5 weeks of use producing crackling noise. I live in Perth Western Australia and had to call O2 support. I was told it is no longer a DOA and that I have to send it to Queensland (Eastern State) for Repair. It took 4 days to arrive, 3 days for them to open the package, 10 days waiting for parts and another 4 days to be sent back. I am talking working days here people. I have been without my expensive PDA for a Month+. The PDA will be delivered next Monday. If that unit is not fixed correctly I will lose the plot. I have to add that the service company do not answer the phone. They also sent me back very little information via Email after I sent them about 5 of them. Well, all I have to say, O2 should ashamed of this product and service and I will never buy an O2 ever again.

i had this atom right from the first ROM and have upgraded to the latest, ive been happy with it esp since dled the latest ROM. im a software freak so until today i have more than 40 softwares installed in my 2gb mini sd, nothing has gone wrong whatsoever. FYI wisbar advance2 is now can be used on Atom!!!! it makes my atom looks hell nicer!!! if ur a type person who like to put everything (i mean EVERYTHING)in one very compact device CHOOSE ATOM!! btw to Z: u dun have to put ur MP3 or wma or wav on ur main memory to be enabled as a ringtone coz too much files in the main memory will slow down ur atom, just save them in ur memory card but DONT save them inside any folder, leave it outside, then when u go to 'Setting - phone' u'll see all ur mp3s under ringtone. or if u want to make it easier just buy Ringo Goodluck dude

To the anonymous user, If you experience problems w/ your speakers. Perhaps, you should try using the equalizer in your Atom. Go to program > Equalizer. Turn it on. You can custom it or use one of many preconfigured settings available. Hope this will solve your problem. TC, - Will

Regret, I regret to hear that your experience w/ the Atom went sour. I went through the same problems your encountering as we speak. But I firmly believe that you problem can be fixed by upgrading your phone to the latest ROM available @ the O2 software website support. Hammer, I think the problem is your actual phone itself. Probably the hole where you insert the stylus is slightly too big. To be perfectly honest w/ you, I would strongly suggest you go back where you bought your phone and see if a technician can fix your problem. I know it may be a hassle, but it is worth a trip. Don't try to fix it yourself 'cause you might make it worse. And FYI, I haven'tencounter that problem yet. But I do have another problem, which is the back cover of my battery that is slightly loose. But I fixed that problem already by inserting a little piece of paper between my battery and the cover and now it is ok. Good luck pal! TC, -Will

Z, If you search MP3 and Ringtone you can find your answer. The file needs to be on your machine rather than your memory card. From there in the Playlist you can "right click" (hold the stylus on it) and select Set as Ringtone. Then when you go into System/Notifications you will see it as an option for your incoming calls ringtone. Note that to set music or sounds for other notifications they need to be WAV files. Haven't bothered to try this yet, but you will need a 3rd party software to get it done.

Anyone having problems switching BT modes? I have the I-tech R35 which allows on-the-fly answering of the phone while listening to music - - it switches back and forth with the push of a button. However, when i receive a call while listening to music, the phone does not go back to music mode. In fact, to use the BT again at all for music I have to do a soft reset. Kiki, I have taken some viseo to test and the performance is about the same as any other PDA, mobile phone or digital camera. IMO opinion this is an add-on "fun" feature and not suitable for "real" video recording. It will fill up your memory card and the image quality and performance will probably dissapoint. It is better to just use a real dedicated camcorder IMO. I hear a lot of the ones based on flash memory are not only compact, but affordable and perform well My 2 cents. Tim

I�ve been using O2 from XDA all the way to Atom. Verdict? Atom is a disappoinment. If you have tried Mini you should know the dialer is so user friendly, when you wanna dial �Ken� you just press �536″ and selections pop-ups. In Atom? You get nothing. You received an sms and you wanna forward them to a Group. Ouch, too bad Atom forgot about this. And say you wanna create new sms to the Group, ouch, you have to select each and every one of them ONE by ONE. Too bad I�ve sold my Mini. But I guess I will not explore any other O2 product anymore, too much disappoinment.

Hammer, do upgrade the room, you need to have your Atom connect to your pc then, you go to the o2 website to download the new ROM. No need to go to the store. Good luck! -Will

To the unknown user with sync problems, To sync files from your desktop to your memory card (MiniSD). All you need to do is open your Activesync and click on explore. A window will pop up. Then you double click on 'My Windows-mobile based device'. Then look for memory card and click it. Once you're there, you will be in your SD card. All you need to do is to drag and drop any files you want to store on it. To delete any files from the memery card, simply delete the file from that window and it will be removed as well. As you as you drop a file in to your memory card, your activesync will automatically make the conversion to ensure your Atom will be able to open it or view it. Hope this helps. Cheers! -Will

FYI, dowloaded and running Skype no problem. I downloaded the Skype version for less than 377(?) mhz processors figuring it would be simplified and thus faster, but I really don't know if it matters. I can say that it works fine for me with no tweaking or overclocking of the CPU. I've only made one call so far (using WLAN) from China to the US, but it worked flawlessly - which is a feat considering the DSL connection in my Shanghai apartment. Tim

Jason, I was contemplating the N80 as well and went with the Atom. The N80 seems sexy with the 3mp camera and I now forget what else. But the price of the N80 was much higher, and it wasn't very compact - to thick for me. The deciding factor was the OS. To be honest I've tried to stay AWAY from MSFT, going with Palm and Symbian. But my las Symbian phone was so slow I hated it. It also did not have as many add-ons available. And there were no Palm form factors I liked - Treo is big and (yawn) everyone has it. So I got sucked into the machne that is Microsoft. A long diatribe I know, but this PDA phone has been smooth sailing for me thus far. Tim

Jason, It supports MS words, Excel, Power Point (view only), Adobe reader. This is truly an amazing device. There shouldn't any hesitation between the N80 or the Atom. Atom all the way baby! TC man

San, Making a hard reset won't change anything to the ROM. All you need to do is to make another ROM upgrade and pray for it to work this time. If not, I found you the o2 customer service #. San, First, don't panic! :) This is probably a software clitch. I think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade the ROM again. However, I'm not sure if the Atom will allow you to do an upgrade again since the lastest patch is already installed onto your device. But at this point, do you really have any other choice? Take a chance and do it again & hopefully you will have better results. If it doesn't solve the issue, I suggest you come in contact w/ O2 for some technical assistance. As far as I know, I haven't encounter this problem yet. Probably an isolated issue. Good luck pal. Cheers!

Hi to all Atom user... Need urgent help! I got my atom a month ago from Spore and I did upgrade 4th version ROM few days ago. After upgrading my atom works so great than before (camera, call). But, now I got another problem with my atom. The screen often become freeze after few minutes whenever I turn the device on. When I tap the screen, nothing happen, just freeze!!Need to perform soft resert on and on. So make me crazy!!! Is it OK if I upgrade the 4th version ROM on to my atom one more time to resolve this problem?? Will there be something happen to my atom in later?? Any good advise please??!!! Greg, the serial I post for SPB Arkaball only works for the 1.1 version. For Arkaball 2, I'm afraid you'll have to be patient a little before I get the crack code for it. This game was released within the last 2 months and I haven't received the serial yet. But rest assured that I'll post it asap when I get it. As for themes, you can always use SPB unithemes that you can download for free at www.spbsoftwarehouse.com They've got about 10 themes that looks pretty decent. Joe, For your problem w/ SPB Weather, you gotta make sure in your settings you set your weather source from 'GisMeteo.ru'. It will upgrade every time you sync w/ your pc automatically. If problem persist, uninstall and reinstall it. You won't need the serial # again because it will be registered already. As for checkers, yes, I do have it and I also mentioned it b4. What you need to do is to download the 'Tetris Classic Game Pack', which includes Tetris, chess, checkers... etc. You install whatever you want and to register for any of the games in the classic pack is the same serial number (36529843). Have a mighty Atom blast w/ your games! :) Tc man

OK. I fixed the sound quality a bit by turning down the first three bars of the EQ a bit. HOWEVER, the noise problem must have been coming from the 2.5 - 3.5 adapter. I paired the Itech R35 and it is fairly AWESOME. Sound quality is MUCH improved with less background noise (I have to make an effort to hear it), barely audible clicking between tracks, and the beeps when you navigate the Atom are just audible enough. This was a problem with the iPhonos, which had a beep so loud that it hurt my ears. And there is less stalls in the music. Overall I'd say the Itech BT solution with your favorite headphones is the way to go. (maybe that's why there are whole threads about it on PPCSG). You don't notice the wires so much if you stuff em down your shirt, and the unit can be tucked away safely somwhere. All the controls (volume, FF, RW, phone, Play) work fine except Pause. I can live with that though. Now if anyone has tips on that golf game it'd be great!

Thanks guys. So today I listened to music on my player at work. I typically listen to fast/hard music at the gym or while biking to work. So I changed it up and was listening to quieter music in a quieter environment, and heard a terrible static/wind noise. It kind of sounds like someone is blowing in your ears or something. Anyone encounter this? If I'm rockin' or rappin' out, it is not an issue, but for general listening - and now because I know it's there - it is bothersome. I should also note that this is with a set of Sure E3C and a set of Audio Technica canals, so maybe they are just more sensitive than the original cheapie headphones??. Can I adjust the EQ or something to limit this noise? I've tried that and even a soft reset to kill any programs that may be interfering. Thanks

BTW, you should try to download O2 Plus. Great stuff & besides, it's free! You'll have to download it with your device though. I suggest you download it with WiFi 'cause if you use GPRS or EDGE, it'll cost you a fortune! ;)

I should clariy, the headphones included with the unit are terrible sounding and don't fit anyone's ear well from what I read - at least not mine. The thing to do is get a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for 5RMB (In Shanghai) anduse your favorite high quality headphones for music. Of course this means no talking, so you may want to look into other units people have recommended like the Sennheiser with built in mic. I'm hoping the BT S38 or R35 will solve this issue for me.

I have had my unit for about 3 weeks now and have no issues with the call quality, reception, etc. The volume on the rings is a bit low even with .mp3 ringtones, but it is OK. Camera is much better than any 1.3 megapixel and good for what it is - you need a steady hand and target because it is a bit slow. Music sound quality is pretty good with decent headphones, though not as good as my old ipod or my Archos AV500 - - there is an audible click between songs and some background noise, but it is quite fine. I bought a pair of Bluetake iPhono Mini BT headsets. Turns out I only like canal headsets because of comfort and sound quality. Overall the BT performance was OK but not great. Some skipping and I had trouble getting the music back after taking a call. ??? AND THIS IS HUGE FOR ME - Is there a way to create a shortcut to connect to the BT device automatically? As is I have to manually connect with no less than 4 taps! ??? Downloaded SBP weather which is great (thanks Will). I did not like the Diary, as it makes the Today screen look cluttered IMO and you have to use the stylus rather than the clickwheel to select stuff - meaning two hands needed. I prefer a combination of original and O2 Today setup Downloaded Tetris, Scrabble, Battleship, and Chess (thanks again Will) and they work great. Handmark Links golf game looks AWEOME and I will buy it if I can figure out how to hit the ball straight (kinda like my real golf game!). ??? Does anyone know how to control the aim/hit straight in this game? ??? OK I am off to return my iPhono BT headsets and hopefuly try the S38 or R35. Honestly i don't know if the convenience of wireless is worth giving up the sound quality and radio, but at this point I've shelled out 800RMB so oh well!

You need to upgrade the ROM. I had the same problems. But after the ROM is upgraded, all these problems are solved.

Can anyone tell me how I can assign power on to another button. everytime my atom pure goes to standby mode I have to press 'power' to wake it. My mini 2 was able to wake up by assigning the 'power' for wake up by pressing 'call" button. Any help in this is appreciated. - NAD

One more question - I promise to reciprocate as I become more learned! On O2 Media Plus, "My Pictures" and "My Videos" show files like Application Data, Documents and Settings, etc. All my media is stored on the memory card. Is there a way to get rid of all these misplaced files (though it seems deleting would not be a good idea) and mapping the correct media to O2? The My Music works fine for some reason. Thanks

OK a few questions. I am now starting to USE my phone. 1. Memory is getting low. How do I move rarely used things like Powerpoint and such to the card and off the main memory? 2. Related - I put too many MP3 ringtones in thinking I could use them for Instant Messages, Voice mail, etc but I can't. (Kinda sucks). How do I remove the ones I don't want? Note all my music is on the memory card. 3. I will do a search, but isn't there a certain 2Gig card people are using? If not will pretty much any 1 gig card work? Note: For those who haven't tried O2 Connect from their phone check it out. There is great info and the O2 tool is cool. For some reason I can't access the recommended links from my Atom though.

To Raman: I believe the 'X' and 'OK' to be the same. Normally one would expect 'OK' means to confirm and 'X' means to close, however, I have found that when changes are made in applications that display the 'X', the changes take effect even when closing the applications by clicking on the 'X' Hope this helps

Hi all, i got 2 questions. with the new rom update can you recharge your atom in the car using the car charger so it actually charges and battery back to full. Second question when you walk into no signal areas for 10 mins and then walk out side to signal areas does it pick up signal and can you recieve and make a call without reseting the atom. The reason i ask is i use to have an atom and there where countless problems and these two where a major problem for me to drop it and buy a new phone (samsung z510) and i still got the atom but if these two problem still exist i am going to give it away. you see i use the atom with tomtom and i could not charge it in the car it just would not accept the charge while on how stupid is that. and i work in a building so when i walk out i can't make calls unless i reset it with the stylus. Those two issues drived me nuts. thanks if you got the time to answer me back.

to timb, The radio does not work with bluetooth. You can only use the bluetooth with mp3 or other media file. You can get stereo bluetooth headset. it sound great. Don't forget to upgrade to the lates rom (4th may. the new rom is good. cheers,

Finally got myself an O2 Atom last 25th May & I'm loving it. My only concern is the SMS alert tone which comes too soft. And I could use mp3 songs as my ringing tone but not for sms. Could you guys, please advise on this? Thanks! One more thing, the camera.. coz the pic resolution isn't that clear.
