I have been using the Palm Treo 500v on and off since I also use HTC smart and other phones as well.One nagging problem is when I have to send an SMS. I have to depress the lower case key for each numberin the send to field. THis is very time consuming and difficulkt. Is there a better way to access all the numbers without having to depress the lower case key all the time.?? Pls help with advice

Hi I have been using this phone (non Vodafone version) for the past couple of months, after loosing my Nokia N95 8gb. The Palm 500 is overall not a bad unit for the price you can get it for. It is very very different to use than a Nokia, has great rececption, much better than the Nokia. But it has poor battery life, it needs to be gharged daily, it also has an annoying habit of somtimes looseing network and you need to switch off and turn it back on to get coverage. Also the camera, best to describe it as it odes not have one if you no what I meen.

Well the phone is Euro version and works with only 1900MHz signal in US. You might lost signal while between of conversation. It's much better us the phone that support US signals 850&1900 not only 1900

You have to go to the option 'setting', then 'connection', the 'Beam' and you have to select the option "Receive incoming beams", then you can receive any file from other mobiles after by Blue-tooth. And if you want to send anything,then you have to BEAM the file.

all you do to get these settings is call vodafone say you have an unlocked palm treo and you want the settings for it and they will send you out the wap,isp and mms setting then u accept them on your phone enter 1234 everytime you are prompted and thats it basically it that simply

Have you considered that this handset doesn't have an FM radio as it is targeted for business clients, which is why it allows a multitude of file applications aimed at business people.

Try going to the open running application and press the left arrow key until you have backed out of the application. Failing that, which should work, go to the File Manager under SETTINGS and enter menu and try closing from there if need be. Hope this helps.

Totally agree with you! We should be glad just to have mobile phones let alone all the other guff people seems to demand on their handsets today. I remember the time we had no cellphones - they simply weren't even heard of. I worked for a Telco at the time they announced that within 5 years we would essentially have handsets we could carry almost anywhere. We were in awe! My first handset, a Motorola Ultra Sleek 9660 [go look that one up!] didn't even tell you anything more than the number the call came from. As for sms - forget it, and the handset hung off my hip like a collapsable umbrella or baton. SO please people - be grateful for the technology you are being offered today and remember that the more features - the higher the price and contrary to popular belief I think most people would prefer to sacrifice some features for a lower price. Next we'll be wanting our phones to work as tv remotes! Where will it end?

Well i have the same problem. The battery is lousy - it does not last a days work (and that is why most of us has bought it in the first place). One day it decided that it would not work anymore either so i sent it back to Vodafone - since in Portugal there is no Palm Plant it had to be sent to the US, where it satyed for almost 2 months and was returned without ever founding out what happened. One month later the same happened and after another 30 days of waiting they gave me a new one. But also with this one the battery does not take much.

I like mine and it has a long battery life before it needs a charge - have you checked your settings ? I would like to find out if there's a sat-nav prog. avaialable for it though - that would be useful.

this phone is rubbish. i bought it off of amazon and loved it at first glance. after i'd had it for a few weeks, i realised i didnt like it much more. the camera isn't that good, after i turned it off i had to take the battery out and re-insert it. the battery life was awful- i'd have to charge it at least 2 hours a day, twice a day. that was after it had been on charge all night. recently i've had to buy a new phone- my Palm decided it didnt want to turn on. I was gutted as it seemed like a really good phone.

I've just sent my 2nd replacement Treo 500 back after less than a week! The first went back after a similar amount of time. The battery life is dire! I'm a low user and took it off charge at 08.45 in the morning. By 4pm the same day, there wasn't enough charge to make a call! The usage during this time? It was on standby, with only one call lasting less than a minute! It's a pity really as the features on the phone were good, it was only let down by lack of a decent battery life!

not to worry. The Palm Treo 500v can be syncd with a mac notebook considering you load software onto your phone that will support that sync e.g Missing Link. Palm also has its own operating system like the ones used in the Centro and 680, and is the one product brand that can be properly confirgured with Apple McIntosh (however you spell it).

This is my first Palm Window Mobile Smartphone, I have paid US$28 inorder to have Chinese/Japanese language installed for my Palm Treo 500v. Overall is quite fine with me as I use this phone mainly for MP3, calls and sms. (I don't need WIFI too), but the only thing that disappoint me is the home screen, no matter how nice and beautiful photos that I have, the picture will be "cut" by the "bar" (the bar indicate time, date and operator), I don't know how to remove the "bar" away, so limited picture can be used. I don't know how come the voting results can be 8.3 for Design, Features and performances too.

This phone is userfriendly and is not very expensive compare with other phones in the market. I have O2 Atom Exec+Zinc, HTC Touch Dual, SE P1i and other smartphone, but this phone only cost me S$299 without contract, I never use Palm phone before, so I bought this today at Comex IT fair, I'm fine without WIFI. If you're looking for good camera, Wifi, 3G or phone equip with all high tech PDA phone, do you think your phone cost how much. I use this phone mainly for calling, sms and a little of camera. I have HP iPAQ 112 for my daily video and songs. So what you pay is what you get, don't blame too much on the phone.

yes just d-pad its not a mega smartfone but its one of those that gets the basics done good,,i have got 425 mp3 on it and have to scroll thru to song i want to play its as fast as nokia but it does not have fast scroll like nokia if you press button twice,,and,, it does not search by puting in a letter say L and it gets you to songs begginig with L

go to apps ->more ->office mobile ->excel mobile ->templates ->excel ->select ->press right soft key ->press right soft key again ->select menu ->select edit mode ->carry on bit by bit as you learn mobile version..Thats the best help i can give you at moment.. I have bought this and testing windows in general as been with symbian for years..I want the xperia so getting in some training,,wat i have learnt so far is its the ppc version that has all the glory and apps it seems" but "its difficult to use from symbian cause i can sort out the apps into were i want them and customise to bits in symbian but not this 500v yet,,plus windows media mp3 player hardly breaks any boundrys but is helped with using adapter and your own cans..

It's about time Palm starts devoting its energies to improve design, weight, display size. And if all that comes with a thiner device, a better camera, a fair memory capacity (at least 2 GB), 3G/4G technology, voice recorder included,and ordinary miniplug headphones jackes (instead of the nasty 2,5 mm one), that would definitely be the best phone in the world! very good, no wait EXELLENT phone for all business personals who want to take their job on the move if ur laptop is not in reach. u can check emails, download a wide range media files lightening fast using 3g network. currently using nokia9300i communicator. and considering this baby as a second phone. have used many previous windows phones nd they always seem to be ahead of time. again exllent device with loads of software tiles. i recomend this mobile pc to all you business people

Since it is made by PALM its still a good phone only I prepare the Style of Treo 650 or 750 running on palm OS much more acceptable in the market if its equipped with WIFI and 3G camera

This is great entry/medium level phone. Build quality is very good it's build by asus btw. Easly can be used one handed. Plenty of features for free. If you want all frills don't complain about Treo 500 just go and spend few hundreds and enjoy you dream model, but if you looking for nice and features rich tool for free. For your agenda, music, etc. you can enjoy it.

palms are good devices for general communication - talk sms mms e.mail etc - alongside organizing whatever informtion . however they are heavily dated by way of design , performance and innovation amongst other things . and though there are plenty of palm enthusiasts out there that may argue otherwise , i am most certain that a large majority of them have been dissapointed by the company on account of not meeting their expectations alongside industry standards . and until palm acts upon this matter , i think its time to move on . there are plenty of other phones out there that can better serve your communicative needs

From what i know, i understand that wifi is a very important feature in all pda right now, however i want ti bring out the point whereby wifi not essential but beneficial, alot of comsumers out there didnt know that by end of 3 years all subscribers has to pay singtell monthly for the wifi usage...and i believe palm feels that if u comsumers got to pay for the wifi why not bundle their products with telcom with their data plans instead...and this is the main reason y palm doesnt implement wifi in this model...

Besides wifi we also asked for a slimmer profile (21mm vs. 16.4mm) and a better camera (vga vs. 2mp). So far so good. I'm not sure if this has a touchscreen but their palm version better have one.
